From my studying, everything that Lilith encompasses (in the context of Adam and everyone else since she's the subconscious mind) is basically:
"I am your inner compass, but you are the one who establishes the direction. If I don't like it, I will grind you from the inside out. If I do, I will make us impossible to defeat. Choose the former, and you'll lose me... But I can offer you replacements. I'll fill you with sins until you decide to seek me."

[DISCLAIMER]: This is definitely not for any littles that follow me while in headspace, I do have an account for sfw agere, hence why I'm posting this here. do not read on if you are in little space!
How does one come out to their mother?
This has been my question since February of this year. My mom has told me that my brother has opposing views and that it's hard to talk to my dad about these things. I have been open with being in support of the LGBTQIA+ community for a while. My Instagram stories heavily show and talk about queer topics and issues going on. But yet, the same question comes back to me.
Do I do it in a text since verbally saying things always seem to make me stumble? Do I give her the note I made or a new revised version? I have known about being nonbinary for over a year now, and on social media, I have they/them in my bios. I just know there are so many people out there that deal with unsupportive family and the anxiety of coming out.
I bring this up because I have been wanting to experiment with how I present but VERY much rely on my parents financially. Another topic is chest reduction. When I have constantly thought about just getting rid of them completely. How do I know if I truly want them gone without trying to bind first? It all still leads back to the first question. My mom has directly told me she will be accepting, but I know once I tell her I want to come out everywhere else. I just want to be my authentic self and not worry this much about rejection from my own family.

Hello! I hope and pray that you are recovering well from the emotional trauma sometime back. I am the one who asked about san's chart because you have a cancer sun i knew you'd be able to answer it more nicely! From what I've seen from choi san is that taurus moon(he seems to take people's emotion into account much more than a gemini moon and also seems less chaotic also..?)also seems to apply to him. What do you think the chances are of him being one?
Hello! Thank you so much for the sweet words dear, this is very kind and means a lot! <3 I am doing okayish with it, I try to just be and not question the ways why I do this or that too much haha. Right now I have to focus extra hard on university so in a way it’s also good to be distracted!
Ohh, I feel honored that you chose me for answering your question! xx So as I am not too familiar with Ateez as much as other groups I listen to my opinion will be purely astrological and doesn’t take any real life accounts into it, but maybe that has its benefits too!  What can be said about the Cancer sun and Taurus moon combos is that these individuals are more grounded in the way, that they rather take things as they are or quicker move through their emotions, whilst a Gemini Moon could be more over the place with that. Taurus moon can make emotional matter so the person ‘simpler’. Not that these people are dull or emotional unintelligent but the groundness and usual calm demeanour of Taurus (Venus) in the Moon would help managing strong emotions (hence why it’s exalted). Also, the way of processing emotions is only partly internalized with the Moon being in Gemini, i think Cancers are in general very authentic, but wih a Gemini Moon there could be need to talk about feelings, put them into something written or at least give them somehow an expression, whilst a Taurus Moon individual would lean more to figuring things out themselves or purposefully not telling anyone because they choose to deal with it on their own (again, they accept circumstances more for what they are, while Gemini Moons could conceptualize things more even though they can be very logical). In a way Cancer sun and Gemini Moon could actually need talking about their emotional state or find it in general easier since its a natural outlet, even though Cancer is very private about any serious matter of the heart.  I think considering the rest of his birth chart, all the strong Leo influence (especially of his Mercury) would be unerlined with his Gemini Moon, making for a very self expressive, playful, but also moody individual. Gemini Moon with Cancer sun could experience a lot of highs and ups, not that they can not filter their emotions, but they might easier get into seemingly unreasonable mood swings. One last thing to consider would be, that with a Taurus Moon he would have a Taurus stellium which would be especially noticable in the house said stellium would fall into.
One thing in general though, since he’s a Cancer sun and Cancer is ruled by the Moon, even if he has another chart ruler/dominant planet, his Moon would still be highlighted in one way or another!

Business spins SellingFacebook Profiles Work around show
Tumblr media
Audrey Mitchell is a 23-year-old New York City move from London. She's a happy model working at KFC. As shown by her profile on Facebook, where she has 921 mates, she favors the New York Knicks, the film Me and Wonderful and the Contracting Youthful grown-up, and the St. Paul, Minnesota-based hip-ricochet pair Eyedea and Cutoff centers. She's at long last single, at any rate her Facebook Dispatch inbox is meandering eccentrically out completed frail men sending her stickers, emoticons, jabbing messages, and dick pics. She respects cupcakes. Also: She doesn't actually exist.
I comprehend this reason for reality analyzing the way that few snaps and one direct $13 bitcoin exchange on a Russian site to purchase Audrey Mitchell and her acceptably advanced impression. After the exchange, an educated embellishment presented a downloadable record containing the general phone number Audrey's record was picked under, a confusing word, and a picked birthdate — the exceptional of the fundamental affirmations get to the record.
Inside 30 minutes I was controlling everything of Audrey's page, appreciating pictures, posting notice, and exculpating upsetting messages. There was little to suggest that the page was inauthentic — or that its supervisor was a 30-year-old producer in Montana.
Across Facebook there are wearisome others truly like Audrey — joke records with nearly made records, a little posting history, and a photograph show of real individuals taking guaranteed selfies. They exchange hands a goliath catch of phony record business centers, where, for somewhat complete, any enchanted appearance expert, blackmailer, or savage can add up to a huge number of clearly human profiles fit for outsmarting Facebook's district.
Referencing before Congress in April in the conceivable aftereffect of the Facebook political race shock, President Cutting Zuckerberg told theme arranged specialists "you're not permitted to have a phony record on Facebook." Despite then these phony profile business spins keep on winning around show on the web.
"There should be millions [of addresses sale]," one Facebook account dealer made in Europe assessed to BuzzFeed News concerning the size of the phony records market. "I go to these goliath business living spaces and see a couple thousand [profiles] in stock relentlessly. I was unable to say in case it was a goliath number or a tremendous number now Facebook kills a couple and individuals continue to make them. Continually." Correspondingly, when insinuated the number from counterfeit records I could buy from them at one time, the seller stayed aware of me, "I could send 5,000 records immediately."
"I could send 5,000 records immediately."
Facebook uncovered to BuzzFeed News that phony records addressed routinely 3% to 4% of its 2.19 multi month to month dynamic clients during the last quarter of 2017 and first quarter of 2018, at any rate the course of action proposes that the records sold in such business conditions address scarcely any the phony records that Facebook screens. Know more here facebook账号购买
The association is inventively doing connecting with fake records. On Tuesday, Facebook expressed in a straightforwardness report that it hurt 583 million phony records and unlimited posts that included sex, spam, and scorn talk in the major three months of 2018. Regardless, then Facebook account business centers figure out some approach to manage supervise control work on show: A Google look for "PVA [phone-affirmed accounts] Facebook" returns various locales selling accounts that are picked with basic telephone numbers and are as such seen by the obliging relationship as bound to be certified records. These business places exist in direct infringement of Facebook's terms of association and revoltingly offer each and every advancement in this manner hoards for bypassing the collusion's advantage while utilizing counterfeit profiles.
While one record merchant uncovered to BuzzFeed News they had "never seen a business opportunity for taken records," it shows up, undeniably, to be the business districts have remained mindful of facilitators to try to take Facebook accounts from attested individuals. In one occasion reported by Erin Gallagher, an altered information essayist, an Egyptian maker broke into the Facebook record of a dead man to take and offer the profile to a business region. "In each record you get 20 pounds/individual who gets them since they need old records," the expert told Gallagher.
Facebook said it considers these phony record business centers, which the union notes are not novel to the stage. (A tremendous store of Twitter, Instagram, and email accounts are furthermore open for getting.) "We pleasingly outline online business spots to assist with upsetting cheats who attempt to sell counterfeit records. Our reenacted understanding developments assist with baffling goliath number of attempts to make counterfeit records every day, and we get customarily more once somebody tries to utilize them," Bill Slattery, Facebook's head of e-evil lead assessments, said in an explanation. Slattery in like way proposed that the phony records business centers might be detonating numbers or, a dash of the time, selling counterfeit data. "Since a record looks ready to move doesn't mean it's genuinely liberal or that it will if all else fails be utilized suitably without getting captured. We in like way work with law execution when fitting." The entire of the nine telephone demonstrated the veracity of records I bought from two separate business living spaces while looking at this piece worked and acceptably stayed away from declaration from Facebook while posting.
"A couple of days you will have a central number improvement demands."
The most major of the phony profiles ready to move are "softreg" accounts, which are genuinely auto-picked utilizing programming programs and have not a ton of additional things. These show up, plainly, to be bought in mass — in April, one Russian site was selling as much as 2,100 softreg addresses 5 pennies each. There are "stayed aware of" accounts, which are either really picked or made utilizing a softreg program and populated with mates containing a blend of bots and shared followback approaches. At long last, there are "made records," which request to have been set up some spot in the level of four and 10 years sooner. Across the business places, made records are completely more cutoff (running some spot in the level of $5 to $150 per account) as they're liberally less slanted to be hailed by Facebook's record seeing programming.
A Russian site called AccsMarket offers enchanted purchasers the chance to buy accounts chose as precisely on time as 2004 (the year Facebook dispatched) with 5,000 certainly genuine, non-bot embellishments for $150 each. Firmly when BuzzFeed News gathered check whether a record was preregistered and left apathetic or got from an authentic individual, the affiliation said just that the record was "deserted."
Now and again, it is dull where a phony record closes and an ensured single beginnings. In January, I purchased five profiles — including five procedures for colossal profile and photograph system pictures, in addition as Google Voice telephone numbers to request the records and outfit them with liberal characters — utilizing a made record business center. For each condition, the photographs gave were spellbinding pictures of clear individuals. A contrary picture look for one of Audrey's profile photographs uncovered that it seemed to have a spot with a Russian model named Yuliya Yanchenko, who didn't return a message proposing remark.
A Facebook profile seller uncovered to BuzzFeed News they all things considered buy pictures from a party in India that harvests photographs from places like the Russian individual to single correspondence site VK, which isn't recommended by Google and hence more hesitant to appear in an opposite picture search. The delegate uncovered to BuzzFeed News that they like to purchase photographs of join as one with ladies. "In the event that you post pics of a hot youth and send mate proposing Indian men, Center Easterner speakers, or South American men, they will see critical and some time later the total of their mates will demand you," the transporter said. "A few days you will have a beast number of pal demands."
For most purchasers, the key concern is that the phony records are reasonably ensured to the lacking eye and don't trigger Facebook's spam securities. To ensure the last started, epic levels of the submitted record buying questions offer express guidelines to "warm up" the records and cause them to show up, in actuality, to be tremendous. The site for AccsMarket tells clients they "should from the beginning play out some standard activities that a standard individual would do in the wake of picking. Model: balance the page, buy in a, couple of affinities, balance the page, fill in express photographs, make a couple reposts, remarks, and so on" The records carrier saw that one convincing approach to manage supervise direct control heat up a profile is to investigate political discussion. "I'd make the record attestation to be impeccable to Catalonian self-alliance and whenever you post anything about Catalonia and opportunity you get diverse enhancement mentioning from indepentists," the transporter said. "All them are Unimaginably vital and On an extremely essential level amped prepared for posting and sharing this sort of political radicalism."
Certain locale offer different insurances like VPNs, which cover IP regions and control evident record logins from various contraptions. A couple of fights even propose utilizing programming like RF_SCreater, a program that can pass on a phony checked duplicate of a Russian clear affirmation with the name, date of birth, nation, and city subject to one's own pheno

The Quran: Revelation or Forgery?
By Goodreads Author Eli Kittim
——-
Did Muhammad Exist?
Before we embark on a brief criticism of the Quran, it’s important to note that there is “very little biographical information” (Wiki) concerning the historicity of its founder, Muhammad:
Attempts to distinguish between the
historical elements and the unhistorical
elements of many of the reports of
Muhammad have not been very successful
(Wiki).
(see: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historicity_of_Muhammad#Views_of_secular_historians).
Of course, this opens up the possibility of whether or not the unknown author of the Quran invented the Muhammad tradition to bolster his credibility. In order to determine the answer to this question, it is crucial to consider the evidence of *intertextuality* in the Quran, that is to say, the literary dependence of the Quran on earlier texts and sources.
——-
How historically reliable is the Quran?
Firstly, with regard to source criticism——that is, the sources that the Quran’s message is derived from——there are some very serious issues involved. For example, there are well-known parallelisms between the Quran and the extra-biblical, non-inspired book of Talmud (e.g. Surah 5:32; cf. Sanhedrin 37a) as well as borrowing from Christian apocryphal works that were written hundreds of years after the purported events and which claim to be legitimate Christian gospels but are not. Case in point, The Infancy Gospel of Thomas:
The Infancy Gospel of Thomas is thought to
be Gnostic in origin. . . . Early Christians
regarded the Infancy Gospel of Thomas as
inauthentic and heretical. Hippolytus
identified it as a fake and a heresy in his
Refutation of All Heresies, and his
contemporary Origen referred to it in a
similar way in a homily written in the early
third century. Eusebius rejected it as a
heretical ‘fiction’ in the third book of his
fourth-century Church History, and Pope
Gelasius I included it in his list of heretical
books in the fifth century. While non-
canonical in Christianity, the Infancy Gospel
of Thomas contains many miracles and
stories of Jesus referenced in the Qur'an,
such as Jesus giving life to clay birds (Wiki).
So, the Quran clearly employs Jewish and Christian apocryphal works that were never accepted as canonical or as “inspired” either by Jews or Christians. Thus, at least some of the sources of the Quran are highly dubious.
Secondly, in 632 CE, following Muhammad’s death, the Battle of Yamama ensued where a great number of those who had supposedly retained the Quran in their memory (hafiz) actually died. How then can Muslims claim the preservation of the Quran through memory and oral transmission?
Thirdly, the New Testament is the best attested book from the ancient world as well as the most scrutinized book in history, and one which has a critical edition. By contrast, the Quran has not been critically scrutinized rigorously in the same manner, nor does it have a critical edition, nor is the manuscript evidence made available to scholars for serious study. There’s a secrecy surrounding it that seems to prevent scholarly investigations. For example, because it lacks a critical edition, there are no footnotes in the Quran to notify the reader about manuscript evidence or textual discrepancies or omissions, such that “(some verses eaten by a goat; Ibn Majah, Book of Nikah, p.39) or that (Umar records the missing verses; Bukhari 8.82.816 & 817).
Fourthly, Orientalists have often questioned the historical authenticity of the Quran by charging Uthman ibn Affan (the 3rd Caliph of Islam) of consigning variant copies of the Quran to the flames during his reign.
Fifthly, the controlled transmission of the Quran makes it impossible to know what was the original. Hence its textual integrity is seriously compromised. By contrast, in the case of the New Testament, for example, since no one person controlled all the manuscripts, it would be impossible to uniformly corrupt all the documents. In the case of the Quran, however, the text was in fact controlled by one person, the khalifa, as attested by Uthman's authority to recall and uniformly revise all the manuscripts. Therefore, it would have been extremely easy for the Quran to have been uniformly corrupted in a textually undetectable manner. For example, the “Sanaa manuscript,” which contains earlier developments of the Quran, demonstrates textual variances that diverge from the Uthman copy.
In conclusion, the Quran doesn’t allow us to come any closer to the original text than the Uthmanic Revised Standard Version 20 years removed from Muhammad. Any errors which found their way into the URSV would be permanent and uncorrectable. And, unfortunately, historical accounts from early Islam tell us that such errors existed!
——-
The Quran is Based on Dubious Sources
Besides the numerous and traceable Judeo-Christian apocryphal works that the author used within the Quran itself, he also got a lot of his ideas from a group that was an offshoot of the Ebionites called the “Sabians,” variously known as Mandaeans or Elcesaites. The Sabians followed Hermeticism and adored John the Baptizer:
Occasionally,
Mandaeans are called
‘Christians of Saint
John’ . . . the ‘Sabians’
are described several
times in the Quran as
People of the Book,
alongside Jews and
Christians (Wiki).
According to Origen and Eusebius, the Sabians used an extra-biblical book that they claimed was given by an Angel (maybe another idea adopted by Muhammad?) to deny portions of Scripture as well as the writings of Paul! So, this idea of challenging Christianity and claiming to have received a new revelation from an angel is quite common in ancient times. It is not unique to Islam. Others had made similar claims. Thus, without completely rejecting the possibility of *revelation* in at least some portions of the Quran, the majority of its theological narratives are largely based on dubious and questionable sources, derived from spurious texts that were under the radar of heresiologists across the ancient world!
——-
Two Apocryphal Works Employed by the Quran to Deny the Crucifixion of Jesus
//Second Treatise of the Great Seth is an apocryphal Gnostic writing discovered in the Codex VII of the Nag Hammadi codices and dates to around the third century. The author is unknown, and the Seth referenced in the title appears nowhere in the text. Instead Seth is thought to reference the third son of Adam and Eve to whom gnosis was first revealed, according to some gnostics. The author appears to belong to a group of gnostics who maintain that Jesus Christ was not crucified on the cross. Instead the text says that Simon of Cyrene was mistaken for Jesus and crucified in his place. Jesus is described as standing by and "laughing at their ignorance”// (Wiki).
//The Gnostic Apocalypse of Peter is a text found amongst the Nag Hammadi library, and part of the New Testament apocrypha. Like the vast majority of texts in the Nag Hammadi collection, it is heavily gnostic. It was probably written around 100-200 AD. Since the only known copy is written in Coptic, it is also known as the Coptic Apocalypse of Peter.
The text takes gnostic interpretations of the crucifixion to the extreme, picturing Jesus as laughing and warning against people who cleave to the name of a dead man, thinking they shall become pure. Like some of the rarer Gnostic writings, this one also doubts the established Crucifixion story which places Jesus on the cross. Instead, according to this text, there was a substitute:
He whom you saw on the
tree, glad and laughing,
this is the living Jesus.
But this one into whose
hands and feet they
drive the nails is his
fleshly part, which is the
substitute being put to
shame, the one who
came into being in his
likeness. But look at him
and me// (Wiki).
This is attested in the Quran:
That they said (in boast), ‘We killed Christ
Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of
Allah’—but they killed him not, nor crucified
him, but so it was made to appear to them,
and those who differ therein are full of
doubts, with no [certain] knowledge, but
only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they
killed him not—nay, Allah raised him up unto
Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power,
Wise (Sura 4:157-158, Yusuf Ali).
——-
A Possible Forgery: Is Muhammad Copying Augustine?
Muhammad (570 – 632 CE) seems to have modelled his conversion on Augustine of Hippo (354 – 430 CE), who was without a doubt the greatest theologian and philosopher of his day! Case in point, in 386 CE, Augustine converted to Christianity from the pagan Machanean religion. Similarly, in 610 CE, Muhammad converted to Islam from the “Jahiliyya" religion, which worshipped Allah as the creator god as well as the Kaaba in Mecca. About 224 years earlier St. Augustine had heard a voice that told him to “take up and read,” a line which became very famous and reverberated through the centuries:
As Augustine later told it, his conversion
was prompted by hearing a child's voice
say ‘take up and read’ (Latin: tolle, lege).
Resorting to the Sortes Sanctorum, he
opened a book of St. Paul's writings (codex
apostoli, 8.12.29) at random and read
Romans 13: 13–14: Not in rioting and
drunkenness, not in chambering and
wantonness, not in strife and envying, but
put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no
provision for the flesh to fulfill the lusts
thereof (Wiki).
By comparison, Muhammad appears to have used a similar line to claim that he, too, heard an Angel’s voice repeatedly say to him: “Read.” Given that Muhammad was presumably familiar with Judaism and Christianity (and especially with the foremost leading authority of his day, the African Augustine of Hippo), it seems very likely that he modelled his conversion on the latter. And, if true, that would certainly constitute a forgery!
——-
Are Allah’s Oaths Self-contradictory in the Quran?
The aforementioned textual criticisms are further compounded when we realize that the Quran contains further theological discrepancies. For example, there are numerous verses in the Quran where Allah is swearing by created things that are less-than-God, thus committing “shirk” (i.e. the sin of ascribing divine status to any other beings beside Allah). Here’s a case in point. In sura 81:15, Allah says: “But nay! I swear by the stars.” Another example is sura 91 verse 1: “I swear by the sun and its brilliance.” When God supposedly swears by something which is less than himself the truth value of his assertion is obviously weakened. By definition, an oath is meant to buttress an argument, not to decrease the weight thereof. Therefore, the truth value of an oath is equivalent to, and connected with, the truth value of the one who declares it. As such, Allah’s oaths (swearing by created things) directly contradict his so-called divine status. By contrast, the God of the Bible swears by Himself, since there is nothing greater to swear under (cf. Gen. 22.16; Isa. 45.23; Heb. 6.13). By definition, an oath is a solemn attestation of the truth of one's words. In this case, how can Allah’s oaths be trustworthy if they appeal to something that is less than himself? Answer: they cannot! It appears, then, that the aforementioned oaths in the Quran are reflecting a human rather than a divine author.
——-
Is Muhammad the Prophesied False Prophet of Revelation?
During the Early Middle
Ages, Christendom
largely viewed Islam as a
Christological heresy
and Muhammad as a
false prophet (Wiki).
In short, following the Arab conquest of the Middle East and due to the *military expansion* of Islam into Europe and Central Asia since the 700’s (toppling one country after another), Muhammad was increasingly seen as a possible candidate for the office of the *false-prophet-of-Revelation* (cf. Rev. 16.13; 19.20; 20.10): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medieval_Christian_views_on_Muhammad
——-
Conclusion
Muslims claim that the Quran is neither corrupted nor influenced by Judeo-Christian sources, and yet upon further scrutiny the book clearly incorporates passages from both the Jewish Talmud and from various Christian apocryphal works. Plagiarism abounds, and so does forgery. Therefore, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to maintain that it’s a “revelation” when at least some of the sources of the Quran are highly dubious!
Moreover, Islam has nothing new to offer by way of revelation. Its doctrine could simply be classified as a modified theological redundancy of the Judeo-Christian tradition and the Biblical heritage that preceded it. The main difference between Islam and Christianity is this. Unlike the Quran’s singular witness and source——given that it was only revealed to *one* man (Muhammad)——the revelations of the New Testament were imparted to many different people, thereby authenticating its message by multiple attestations and witnesses!

BECAUSE I’M NOT POPULAR, I’LL READ WATAMOTE: CHAPTER #147
In today’s chapter, Watamote goes back to its roots as we find Tomoko hankering for some alone time. But you’d be wrong if you think it’s going to be that simple. Because underneath all the nostalgia moments lies what may just be the most crucial development that Tomoko has ever undertaken, and it’s the type of growth that could’ve only been realized by taking a quick trip down memory lane.
Chapter 147: Because I’m Not Popular, I’ll Wander Around Alone
Tumblr media
Oh hey, it’s that one male teacher who’s made periodic appearances throughout the series. Thank you for being there during Tomoko’s character establishing moment.
Tumblr media
So Wada is pretty good at English, huh? So not only do they both like manga, but Tomoko and Wada are also knowledgeable in the same subject. How nice.
Better break out the pitchforks.
Tumblr media
A common social “rule” in Japan is the emphasis on being able to read the room and reciprocating that atmosphere, or at the very least, not rock the boat. Tomoko has never really supported or condemned that notion, though unlike Yuri, is more likely to go with the flow. As someone who lives in a culture that discourages group mentality, it’s nice to see a character like Tomoko benefit from it.
Tumblr media
Cliques? What high school cliques? All I see is a group of distinctly unique girls organically enjoying each other’s company.
Tumblr media
This first-person POV shot looks straight out of a harem manga, only more authentic and devoid of cattiness.
Tumblr media
Let it be known that in this moment, Tomoko actually does break the mood. For the first time in as long as I can remember, Tomoko finds herself in a social situation with little risk, but actively breaks away from it in favor of alone time.
With that, the seed of Tomoko’s greatest epiphany has sprouted.
Tumblr media
Not in the mood to binge through twenty volumes this time, huh?
Tumblr media
Boy does this take me back...
Compared to Tomoko’s first solo trip to Not-McDonald’s, it’s amazing to see the way she’s changed alongside the ways she hasn’t. Her anxiety is 95% gone, with the remaining 5% accounting for general uncertainty, hence the very brief stuttering. Embrace that 5% Tomoko–that’s all you.
Tumblr media
Introvert Problems #051: Activities that are individual in nature double as recharging opportunities, but can come off as unfriendly if openly pursued.
Okay honestly, this is the type of growth I’ve been low-key hoping for since the very start of the series. Tomoko has finally realized that a desire to be alone is not something she needed to fix, but to accept. For the longest time, she didn’t realize a large part of her alone time was because she craved it. It brought her comfort, even if she didn’t want to believe it. And it took having a considerable amount of friends (whose companionship was definitely necessary) for her to understand that she didn’t want to get rid of being alone.
She wanted to get rid of being lonely.
Tumblr media
Professional slacking. Otherwise known as, putting in the bare minimum effort to avoid future hardships.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nom.
Tumblr media
I’m sure there are various theories for both perspectives, but I think the main takeaway is that food tastes the best when you’re in your comfort zone. Whether that includes company for not is based on your personal preference.
Tumblr media
Indeed, it is. This is none other than the class representative of Tomoko’s second year, Girl-With-Awesome-Hair. Naturally, taking up two whole panels is a clear sign that this isn’t the last we’ll see of her.
Tumblr media
Ah, yes, the classic “normies suck” self-fulfilling prophecy–other people are jerks, and that’s why I’m alone. Tomoko was guilty of having this perspective, but she didn’t really recognize it until the first cafeteria chapter with Nemo. That was the point she realized that all those “popular” people are genuinely nice people. It was jarring at first, but once Tomoko got used to people being nice to her, she stopped perceiving that kindness as some kind of exception, and just took it as normal behavior. While alluding to the possibility of getting shit-talked behind her back is more of her realism at work, it thankfully doesn’t fall too deep into self-destructive cynicism.
Tumblr media
Could it be that Tomoko’s recent friendships are subconsciously making her pursue more public activities even on her loner vacation? You better believe it.
Tumblr media
Tomoko’s become quite financially savvy lately, don’t ‘cha think? It certainly beats spending $150 on a whim for a Vocaloid.
Tumblr media
I cannot think of any other nickname that suits her better.
For a girl with the single most stylized face in the series, her entrance in this chapter sure makes an impact with the way she strikes such an alluring pose. Of course, that’s the joke, ain’t it?
Tumblr media
It would seem that we’re getting a “doesn’t-care-what-anybody-else-thinks”-type of character for her. Well, she’s a competitive gamer as we soon learn, so not giving a shit about her social status is kind of a prerequisite.
Tumblr media
I honestly did a double-take at this, as it’s the first time Tomoko has addressed Yoshida in her mind by her real name instead of “the delinquent”. We’re just a hair’s length away from reaching official “friend” status with these two.
Tumblr media
Aw, that’s adorable. Tomoko actually sort of cares about Yoshida’s financial wellbeing. I’ve also noticed a bit of a trend with Tomoko in that she gets “terrified” of her friends breaking her expectations of them, even if they’re not doing anything that terrifying. In Yoshida’s case, I think that’s partly because Tomoko has a bit of a superiority complex that would get broken if Yoshida was a better person than she likes to believe.
Tumblr media
Tomoko’s nicknaming game is on point today.
Tumblr media
It was hinted before that Futaki may be popular with the boys what with being a “gamer girl” and all. While it’s still a little too early to confirm or deny that, the fact that most of the onlookers here are guys has to count for something.
Tumblr media
I remember when fans gave her the name “Potential-san”. Given where this chapter is headed, I think that name fits even more with Futaki’s blooming characterization.
Tumblr media
It’s amazing how much of their personalities you can see in this single panel. Yoshida is all easygoing, grasping her drink from the top all aloof-like. Reina is the toughest, taking a quietly aggressive stance with her elbows on the table like a boss. And Anna is the most inviting, smiling with a crêpe in her hand to signify her (relative) sweetness.
Tumblr media
I find it fascinating that Anna can say some pretty rude things that borderline on mean, but it never really comes off as malicious (or is it just me?). She gives off that vibe of someone who mercilessly teases people in a way that’s “all in good fun”, and I hope to see more of that side to her.
Tumblr media
First off, Tomoko being a full table’s length away from the scary delinquents is gold.
Second and not to beat a dead horse, Anna’s a cool chick.
Tumblr media
I think I’m gonna need to call upon the Council of WataMote Fans with Too Much Time On Our Hands for this. Why exactly is that name so unusual?
Tumblr media
Of course, Anna wouldn’t be part of the delinquent squad if she didn’t shit-talk every now and then. But as I said before, she has this style of going about it that feels more like brash innocence than deliberate antagonism. Maybe it’s the heroin eyes...
Other than that, she does imply that she’s the smartest of her group, though whether that perception is actually reflective of herself isn’t certain yet.
Tumblr media
More of Tomoko’s superiority complex at work here. All she really knows about Futaki is that she plays games, and is assumedly a slacker. That fact that she still managed to outscore her must’ve been quite the blow to Tomoko’s insecurity. The only thing “worse” is if even Yoshida managed to rank higher than her.
Tumblr media
I love dialogue gags like this, though usually the characters’ inner words are in parenthesizes in-between their actual spoken words. If Tomoko actually lowered her voice at the word “lower”, that’d be humorously sad.
Tumblr media
It got “worse”.
Because a superiority complex actually requires a deep-seated sense of inferiority, Tomoko must be hella blown back right now. Grades were one of the only things she could feasibly claim dominance over, but now that she’s about to be usurped by the supposedly dumb delinquents, she only has her otaku interests to fall back on, which...isn’t always something to brag about.
Also, I especially like how Tomoko has started to compare delinquents to the yakuza. You know both would beat the tar out of her if they heard her compare them to the other.
Tumblr media
You know, it makes perfect sense that Tomoko would be a top scorer in Japanese, English, and History. Since she’s such an avid reader (even if it is only manga and light novels), all that extra literature has most certainly been indirect study material, even if the actual course material isn’t nearly as lewd.
Additionally, slackerism loves company.
Tumblr media
Yeah, if it wasn’t already abundantly clear than Reina is the delinquent among delinquents...
Tumblr media
...she is.
Tumblr media
Rekt to infinity.
But you know, this is actually an ingenious way to develop a gag character like Futaki. Her apparent gaming skills have always been played like a joke, but by having it be her long-term goal, it restructures that “quirk” of hers into a fleshed out personality. It doesn’t invalidate anything we’ve already seen from Futaki, and it neatly sets up a direction for her character to take.
Tumblr media
I imagine Tomoko must feel pretty betrayed right now. She herself entertained the idea of being a gamer, but discarded that dream likely because it wouldn’t be a “proper” job. Now that she sees this girl she hardly knows who apparently has the luxury of making that dream a reality, Tomoko’s envy levels just skyrocketed. Sure, Futaki has no loyalty to Tomoko, so that sense of betrayal has no basis, but like how Akari felt about “angelic” Komiyama in chapter 108...
“...this just isn’t fair!”
Tumblr media
I’m getting a Crazy Rich Asians vibe from this girl.
Tumblr media
So Reina’s the competitive type, huh? I can dig it. It generally fits with the whole “eyes-must-not-be-seen” aesthetic, but it also explains why she and Yoshida have that “vitriolic best buds” relationship going on. I’d imagine that Reina’s the type to bet high stakes if she can get away with it...
Tumblr media
Just ice cream? Eh, no big loss. Unless it’s chocolate chip mint, then it’s a very big loss.
I wouldn’t exactly have these rankings as indicators of their skill level, since mahjong does involves a bit of luck and certainly reading your opponents. While it’s surprising that Futaki ended up in last place, I think it does help to nerf her power level somewhat. Shiro from No Game No Life she is not.
Tumblr media
Careful, Futaki. That’s no excuse when you’re looking to be a professional gamer.
I must say, having Futaki unofficially join the delinquent crew is the last thing I would’ve expected, but it’s a delightful surprise nonetheless. They have some pretty good chemistry what them all being slackers/gamers. Plus, Futaki’s strange, but odd cuteness adds a dynamic that the delinquents were lacking until now.
Tumblr media
Delinquents may be delinquents, but they always know how to have a good time.
Tumblr media
Ho ho! So Nemo has officially been indoctrinated into their group? That poor, poor girl.
Tumblr media
Council! I require your guidance! Is Haruna the last name for Anna? Or did Tomoko just get her name wrong! I must solve this conundrum at all costs!
Tumblr media
If you try to tell me that Yoshida isn’t absolutely gorgeous in this shot, then you’re a big, fat liar.
Looking back on this chapter, Yoshida didn’t actually have many notable lines until this moment. But this single bit of dialogue greatly makes up for it. This is the very first time that Yoshida has personally offered to hang out with Tomoko without any sort of coercion or reluctance. It’s the most damning evidence we now have that says Yoshida now openly views Tomoko as her friend. As a long-time reader, I couldn’t feel any more proud.
Tumblr media
In comic book terms, we call this The Negative Space of Melancholy.
Tumblr media
And really, wasn’t that the “goal” of this series all along? Making friends wasn’t the real endgame. If it were, it very well could’ve betrayed what makes the series so special, hence why Tomoko’s growth was so agonizingly slow. Tomoko is, was, and always will be a loner. It was just a matter of time before she could make the most out of that status.
Tumblr media
It wouldn’t be a chapter about Tomoko’s growth if she didn’t wax lyrical about her current situation.
Even if self-satisfaction about being a loner is the “goal” of this series, reality is hardly so linear. As this chapter shows, Tomoko finds herself inexplicably drawn to social situations even when trying to avoid them. Not intentionally, but out of a natural, subconscious attraction to them. Tomoko’s life is a series of circular ebbs and flows. She’ll gain something at the cost of losing something else, only to regain a variation of what was lost once what was gained becomes stagnant. Such is it the path to making connections. While the hoops in Tomoko’s development appear drastic close-up, her life is a slow, naturalistic mountain climb when viewed from on top.

Why Would a Loving God Allow Suffering? - Part 9
II.E
Fifth Reason for an Imperfect World -- the Opportunity to Build the Kingdom of God
As noted above, suffering can be of invaluable assistance in leading us to our eternal and loving reward. In Section II.A we saw how suffering could be truly helpful to moving from a merely materialistic identity (Level 1) and an egocentric identity (Level 2), to a contributive, loving identity (Level 3) and a transcendently good and loving identity (Level 4). The movement toward a Level 3 / Level 4 identity is not for this world alone, for love is eternal by nature, and faith is oriented toward a loving eternity. Hence, any progress toward Level 3 and Level 4 is also progress toward the eternal Kingdom of God. If suffering helps us to progress toward Levels 3 and 4, it must also help us to progress toward the Kingdom of God.
The same holds true for the points made in Section II.C. We saw there how suffering could be helpful in embracing deeper empathy, humility, compassion, and agapē, and in Section II.B, we saw how suffering could be helpful in appropriating deeper courage and self-discipline, which are intrinsic to the pursuit of authentic love. Inasmuch as suffering is helpful in developing the elements and conditions of authentic love, and unconditional love is intrinsic to the eternal Kingdom of God, suffering must again be helpful in moving toward the Kingdom of God.
Furthermore, if Jesus was correct in asserting the unconditional love of His Father, then His intention is to redeem every dimension of suffering. Thus, whenever we suffer, God is already working through it to bring about optimal empathy, humility, authenticity, compassion, courage, and self-discipline, and through these, to bring about the optimal path toward eternal salvation in His love. We may not clearly apprehend the direction, timeline, and nuances of this plan, but we may be sure that an unconditionally loving God will do everything to optimize our salvation (without violating our and others’ freedom).
There are three other ways in which suffering is involved in the road to salvation:
(1) room to participate in building the kingdom,
(2) deeper appropriation of faith and greater participation in church community, and
(3) offering up our suffering as an act of love for the salvation of the world.
II.E.1
Room to Participate in Building the Kingdom
The more we cooperate with God’s plan to bring love and salvation out of suffering, the more we can become instruments of God’s hope, love, and salvation to others, which allows us, in turn, to be genuine participants in building the kingdom of God.
God does not need our perfect cooperation to bestow salvation upon us, because His love is unconditional and He can redeem and heal our imperfections beyond our limited powers. This is a very happy truth, because the vast majority of us (or perhaps I should speak only for myself) are incapable of even approaching perfect cooperation with God’s loving plan. Yet God has left enough room for us to participate in His work of salvation (albeit imperfectly) and so, the more we consciously cooperate with His plan, the more good we will be able to do for ourselves and others in the work of eternal salvation.
The above thought provokes a question: Why try to cooperate with God’s loving plan, if God will save repentant people (amidst their imperfections) anyway? Because cooperating with God’s loving plan will (1) make suffering less painful and depressing for us and others, (2) deepen our conversion toward authentic unconditional love more quickly (which brings us closer to true joy), and (3) help us to play an important role in actualizing eternal salvation. The first two points may by now be evident from the explanation of suffering given above, but the third point merits closer consideration.  As noted in the previous section, God did not do everything for us. He created us in an imperfect world so that we might be able to make a significant contribution in bringing about both love in the world, and unconditional love in His eternal Kingdom.
Consider the following: God did not create a perfectly loving kingdom on earth. This is obvious not only in the imperfect natural world in which we live, but also in the millions of unloving human actions awaiting redemption in His future eternal kingdom. In God’s kingdom there will be no acts of unlove because God’s grace will eventually purify our freedom so that our actions truly reflect a pure desire to love authentically and unconditionally. Inasmuch as our freedom is not yet completely purified, the Kingdom of God is not and cannot be perfectly manifest on earth.
So how do we move from imperfect freedom to perfectly purified freedom? Christians believe this occurs through the redemptive act of Christ, our desire for His redemption, and the Holy Spirit working in our hearts and minds. We believe that Christ’s unconditionally loving death and resurrection, and the action of the Holy Spirit will redeem every person of good will (who even implicitly desires this redemption). Yet, Christ did not redeem the world in a way that would preclude us from participating in His work of salvation. Quite the contrary. Just as the Creator gives us room to make a better world, so also Christ gives us room to participate in the work of salvation. Paul acknowledges this in an often misinterpreted passage from the Letter to the Colossians:
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the divine office, which was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known…. (Col 1:24-25, italics mine).
At first glance, one might get the impression that Paul is saying that something is intrinsically lacking in the sufferings of Christ. This would be both heretical and self-refuting, for if something were lacking in Christ’s redemptive act (necessary for salvation) then we could not be saved! Paul clearly does not intend this for both doctrinal and logical reasons. Moreover, he argues the precise opposite many other times throughout his corpus.
One may also get the impression that Paul is being arrogant when he claims that he completes what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ. Once again, this must be a misinterpretation, because it conflicts with his desire for humility and love, and his awareness that humility and love are the essence of Christ and His Father.
So, what does he mean? He means that there is nothing necessary for salvation lacking in the sufferings of Christ, but that Christ has left enough room for us to participate in His redemptive work. Christ’s redemptive act (His incarnation and passion) constitutes an unconditional gift of self (an unconditional act of love) indelibly actualized and concretized in the world. This is sufficient to redeem every person who freely accepts it. Yet He does not complete every aspect of the propagation of this salvific love. Rather, He leaves this open for the Church and us to accomplish (partially). He gives us the Holy Spirit to help with this ministry, not to take it over. He lets us be His instruments and participate in the greatest of all possible earthly actions, namely, the propagation of His eternal love and joy. He allows us to play an integral part in giving His greatest gift to humankind. What could be a greater dignity, privilege, and purpose in life? What could be a greater joy?
Yet, as Paul makes clear, this great joy is punctuated by suffering (“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions”). Though Paul is speaking of his sufferings here, he is also implicitly referring to all our sufferings in spreading the Gospel and building the kingdom. It seems that the noble project of giving away the eternal and unconditional love of Christ can involve misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and even heresy. It can engender resentment, infighting, and jealousy; inauthenticity and hypocrisy; having to face false allegations for the sake of Christ, having to be courageous to stay true to his word, and having to make sacrifices of a thousand other kinds. This is why Jesus concludes the Beatitudes with the promise that every kind of persecution for the faith will be redeemed in the kingdom of God:
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you (Mt 5:11-12).
It seems that the privilege, purpose, and joy we have been given in preaching the unconditional love of God entails many pitfalls and sufferings, but there is no greater dignity or purpose we can have than this salvific project – because its effects are eternal. If we help someone to find faith and stay on the road to salvation, that has an eternal effect; if we help to prevent a person from discouragement, despair, or unbelief, that too has an eternal effect; and if we inhibit a destructive momentum – which might cause the loss of transcendence or virtue – within the culture, that too has an eternal effect. So if we are ridiculed, harassed, or even persecuted for doing these things, it is worth it – for it is a temporal sacrifice for an eternal effect. Moreover the trusting and courageous endurance of such sufferings can be an act of selfsacrificial love in imitation of Jesus who turned hatred and persecution into a self-sacrificial love for the world (see below Section II.E.4).
This is why St. Paul says, “Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake….” He knows that suffering is anything but meaningless because it is filled with eternal salvific significance. Paul rejoices because the eternal and unconditional dignity of the ministry he has been given far outweighs the sufferings he must endure to carry it out. This does not reduce the hardship of spreading the Gospel, but it does infuse that hardship with a profound meaning of eternal and unconditional love.
Furthermore, this hardship is a manifestation of our love, a purification of our freedom, an act of love for the One who redeemed us by His blood, a gift of self to complement Christ’s total gift of self on the cross. Thus, the suffering intrinsic to spreading the Gospel is not only filled with meaning – eternal meaning – but also with self-transformation and love destined to last throughout eternity.
II.E.2
Deeper Appropriation of Faith and Greater Participation in Church Community
Suffering also has a peculiar way of leading people to God and church community. This is clearly evidenced in 12-Step programs and in many adult re-conversions to religion. As noted above, suffering can compel us to look for more profound meaning in life, to seek purpose in places we had never anticipated, and to find meaning and consolation in those new places.
Most of us will probably settle for mediocrity and superficiality in our life’s purpose if we feel like our Level 1 and 2 needs are well met. This feeling is so satisfying that we would sacrifice breadth and depth of meaning in order to preserve it. Much of the time we would rather fill “on top of the world” in a very small world than to feel somewhat subordinated in a big world. The only way we can overcome this self-imposed superficiality is to give up the need to be “on the top of the world.” But how? Being on top of the world feels so good; it makes me feel so much better than everyone else; and that too makes me feel so good. It can sometimes be more addictive than drugs. How can I let go of the feeling of being on the top of the world in order to enter humbly into a huge domain over which I might only have a small influence, but one that will echo in its love throughout the many consciousnesses and “eternities” it affects? Think about it for a moment. If you’re anything like me, there seems to be one initial step, namely, suffering.
I grew up in a faith tradition, and so, when suffering and the feeling of powerlessness entered into my life, I reflexively turned toward God to hold the center when I could not hold it myself. I have known other people who did not grow up with faith and whose turning toward God had to be learned over the course of months or years in Alcoholics Anonymous (or other 12 Step programs), in religious counseling, through hospital chaplains during protracted medical treatments, through reading of religious books or magazines, or even through religious television and radio. In the case of those who are professed believers or agnostics, God has a way of appearing in the midst of suffering. When we reach out to Him in that suffering, we find that the sense of powerlessness is replaced with the consolation of God’s power in the midst of our humility and creatureliness. When we realize that we are powerless, we have a perfect opportunity for a radical humility opening upon radical faith. All that is required is an admission of our need for the One who is really at the center of reality – in the words of Alcoholics Anonymous, a “higher power.”
The radical admission of need (humility) allows the God of love to move into our center, for He would not do this unless we, in our freedom, invite Him to do so. Odd as it may seem, God’s love is so great that He will not impose Himself on us; He will not come into our lives if we do not want Him. He subjects Himself and His love to our freedom because He is unconditionally loving.
However, if we do invite God into our lives, to be our control, our center, a higher power, and to be Creator, then God most assuredly will enter into our lives to help us. This help may not be a direct solution to our problems, it may not be the help that we ask for or expect; but most assuredly this help will open us up to an awareness of His unconditional love. Much of the time, this awareness occurs through a church community.
The awareness of God’s love can occur on a variety of levels – some of them quite tacit. Sometimes it can be in the form of expressions or actions of love from fellow church members; other times it can come through clergy, or can leap off the page of the New Testament; sometimes it can be imbued with the beauty of church life: the beauty of the people serving in the church, the beauty of faith exemplified by those individuals, the beauty of the doctrine of Christian love, the beauty of the Eucharist, the sacraments, the liturgy, the liturgical year, the beauty of music, art and architecture, the beauty of tradition and the saints – we are invited into an ethos of beauty which leads deeper and deeper into the mystery of God’s love and majesty.
This mysterious beautiful love calls us into itself. It enchants us, fascinates us, enriches us, and fills us quietly but deeply. We become very interested in things theological; almost addicted to asking questions about God, heaven, Scripture, Tradition – everything having to do with this mysterious, beautiful love. God might not solve our problems or resolve our sufferings immediately, but He will make us aware of His mysterious, beautiful love through our admission of need, and He will invite us more deeply into that mystery, enchant and enrich us with it, and then lead us by His own path to a new meaning of life in humility, service, and love. To be sure, this path may not be easy, but in the long run, it will lead us out of abject superficiality into a life filled with transcendent Truth, Love, Goodness, Beauty, and Home, to a life betokening our eternal destiny of love with Him.
But that’s not all. When we have been “rescued” from a life of superficiality, meaninglessness, or hopelessness, we develop a natural inclination to share it with others. At this point, the Lord of love again inspires us, enflaming us with wisdom and energy, with knowledge and compassion, and with a love and faith beyond our temporal understanding, to go out and share the good news that we do not have to be at the center, we do not have to be in complete control. We can trust the One and only one who can be in complete control, and we can content ourselves with being a very small part of the utterly immense and eternal kingdom of love.
This desire to share the Word of hope with others, to share the Word that gives more than superficial life, the Word that reaches into mystery, perfection, and eternity builds on itself. When we see the depth and breadth, the hope and love, the richness and joy that comes from our ministry and service, we cannot resist the inspiration to do more – increasingly more. We want to serve the Lord of love who has made this possible for us. As we do this, we not only find an increased meaning, depth, love, and joy in our lives, we grow in certitude that we are being led. God then becomes for us more than higher power, more than Creator (though ironically this should be enough), He becomes the God of providential love concerned not just for me but for us, concerned to lead us toward greater freedom and love, caring enough to invite us into His very divine life of love. After living a life of service and ministry, one can scarcely doubt the love and the presence of God. Certitude has worked its way into our life experience through the acceptance of God’s invitation given to us in suffering.
The unfolding of these “loving tactics of God” has certainly been the story of my life, but I have seen it manifest even more profoundly in the lives of those with greater challenges than my own. Sometimes the people with the greatest challenges in life – physical, familial, mental – give some of the strongest and most articulate testimonies to the love of God. Their faith, peace, confidence, awareness of God, capacity for compassion, and above all, their joy and “being at home with God” are incredibly profound. I frequently find this to be a sign of God’s presence because I cannot fathom how they could have all these qualities without some direct inspiration from the God of love.
This holds true even for children, particularly those who face illness and physical deprivation. Many of the children I have met in hospitals, who are facing severe illnesses and even death, have a profound faith, peace, and confidence, which allows them to console their parents when their parents are incapable of consoling them. When I first heard children say, “Don’t worry, Mom – everything is going to be alright;” I used to think, “Well, that is the naïve optimism of a child.” But then I came to realize that most of these children didn’t think their life in this world was going to be all right; they thought their life with God would make everything all right. I asked some of these parents whether they had brought up their children in a religious household. Many of them had, but interestingly enough, many of the children who had not been brought up in a religious household expressed just as profound a peace and confidence in the life to come as the ones who had been raised with that expectation. One might maintain that this is yet another iteration of the naïve optimism of a child, but I don’t think so, because the prospect of death (powerful as this finality is) did not seem to shake the peace which these children felt.
One can make out of this whatever one wishes. But there is one major point, which is shared by children and adults who experience this “peace beyond all understanding” (Phil 4:7), namely, they both have acknowledged their need for God and have invited Him into their center. Children seem to do this naturally – not just with God, but also with their parents and with everyone else for that matter. That is the distinctive advantage of children. But adults can do this too; they can acquire the heart of a child; but they generally need to do this through suffering which causes them to invite God into their center, which, in turn, allows God to invite them more deeply into His mysterious loving beauty, which, in turn, induces them to serve God by sharing the life and meaning of eternal and perfect love, which, in turn, leads to peace beyond all understanding. Adults frequently need suffering to reach the state of abject openness to God. Children seem to possess it in their very being. Far from naïveté, they exemplify a confidence, peace, and love originating in God Himself.

Elevator Control Market Report Analysis By Key Players, Share, Revenue, Growth Rate With Forecast Overview To 2025
The elevator control market is expected to register a CAGR of 5% over the forecast period 2020-2025. Increasing population, rising industrialization and urbanization, economic development and growing infrastructure spending is boosting the elevator control market globally. - Rise in urbanization across the world in search of a job and better life standard has led to an increase in demand for residential apartments. In order to cater to the needs, governments have supported the construction of the multi-storey building to accommodate the maximum number of families in the same land area. According to the United Nation, more than one half of the world population lives in urban areas, and virtually all countries are experiencing urbanization. Developed countries’ large population resides in urban areas, whereas developing countries in Africa and Asia, still dwell in rural areas but will urbanize faster than other regions over the coming decades. It will drive the elevator control market in the coming years.
Click Here to Download Sample Report >> https://www.sdki.jp/sample-request-85987 - The rapid increase in infrastructure spending in developing economies is expected to boost the elevator market. According to the report, India's infrastructure investment would grow by 43% in the fiscal year 2020-2021 projected by the government which would strengthen the demand of elevators and steel. Infrastructure spending by central, state governments and the private sector is forecast to be around USD 254 billion in 2020-21 compared with estimated spending of USD 178 billion in 2019-20.
- In addition, developments in elevator technology that leverage digitalizationto improve flow and travel time in busy mid and high-rise buildings, primarily commercial buildings are encouraging engineers to develop next generation smart elevator control systems. Smart connected buildings, Internet of Things capabilities, and evolving standards of safety and quality are the new generations elements evolving the elevator market. Key vendors would benefit after implementing these elements. For instance, KONE’s BACnet PR18-compliant controller is a native BACnet device, fully integrated system, that doesn’t require any elevator controls integrator or translation and allows building operator to manage, operate, and maintain smart buildings in the best and efficient ways.
- Moreover, increase focus on development, and modernization of airports, metro rails projects, and redevelopment of railway stations, offers opportunities in the infrastructure segment and hence to the elevator control market. Key Market Trends Smart Cities to Drive the Elevator Control Market Modern or smart cities will fuel the need for smart and efficient technologies to support urban growth with smart buildings. Smart cities have smart transportation services, greener buildings with advanced technologies that use renewable energy sources and provide an eco-friendly and connected world. Elevator technologies are essential to ensure future smart city sustainability. Global green infrastructure standards together with statutory requirements are influential in promoting the application of smart elevators inside the building. As buildings are responsible for 40% of the energy consumption across the world, 10% of electrical consumption in buildings is associated with elevators' power consumption. Advanced elevator technologies ensure significant energy savings with a possible 27% reduction in energy consumption with a 30% increase in usable floor space and promises energy self-sufficient buildings. These are usually made up of modern digital security system controls such as touch screens, biometrics, destination dispatching, and access control. For instance, KONE, Finland based elevator and escalator company, has introduced the world's first digital elevator series in November 2019, KONE DX Class, that provides a host of new, multisensory experiences inside the elevator by combining physical hardware and digital services. It is also customizable to individual needs and preferences that can bring new levels of ease and convenience. The company has collaborated with Blindsquare, Robotise, Soundtrack Your Brand to bring new levels of sophistication to the people flow experience. Moreover, Asia-Pacific will experience highest number of smart city project in the forecast period. Out of 1000 smart city project that are currently being built around the world, China accounts more than half of it. For instance, Xiong'an’s smart city brain project, the latest and most prestigious smart city project in China, aims to implement a high level of intelligence in city administration, engineering construction, corporate and social credit systems, public transport and other civil services and provide a taste of future to the city dwellers. Asia-Pacific will Experience Significant Growth in Forecast Period Multi-National companies are expanding their presence in Asia, emerging markets, to capture the potential growth with minimum cost. They are streamlining operations in a more established market and increasing their headcount in Asian countries. Information technology and the pharmaceutical sector had experienced the maximum growth of MNC’s expansion. According to Singapore’s Economic Development Board (EDB) report, more than 37,000 international companies, including 7,000 MNCs, have their headquarters in Singapore. The expansion has fueled the construction of multi-story buildings for workspace and need of fast and smart elevators to move an authentic employee to the desired floors with the fewest number of stops. The rapid urbanization of Asia-Pacific region has shaped the skyscrapers’ market due to increased demand for infrastructure and population density and has fueled the need for towering skyscrapers, both for residential and commercial purposes. High-rise construction is no longer confined to a few financial and business centers and is accepted as a global model for densification. As a result, tall buildings are financed and built in virtually around the world with Asia accounting to more than 63% of the world’s tallest building projects which is boosting the speedy growth of elevator control market in Asia-Pacific region.
For instance, Wuhan Greenland Center is a skyscraper construction project aimed to build 636 meter tall structure that would provide spaces for three distinctive functions for office, apartment, and hotel. The estimated cost of the project is USD 4.5 billion and is estimated to complete in 2020. The elevator is provided by the Kone Corporation and Schindler to support speedy and efficient commute throughout the building. China accounts more than half of the world’s new lift installations and the spread of COVID-19 has impacted the construction activity across the globe. All the construction projects have been halted due to the risk of COVID-19 poses to vulnerable workers and other citizen. All the governments are restricting the movement of people and limiting manufacturing operations. It has impacted the vendors' delivery time and the pace of installation in many markets. But the elevator maintenance business sector is not highly impacted. Even though China has lifted the lockdown over COVID-19 but other countries has sealed the borders to prevent any further outbreak of pandemic. This has negatively effected the elevator control market as most of the components were manufactured in Asian countries. Competitive Landscape The elevator control market is competitive and is dominated by a few major players like Thyssenkrupp AG, OTIS Elevator, Kone Corporation, Schindler Group, and Hitachi Ltd. These major players with a prominent share in the market are focusing on expanding their customer base across foreign countries. These companies are leveraging strategic collaborative initiatives to increase their market share and increase their profitability. However, with technological advancements and product innovations, mid-size to smaller companies are increasing their market presence by securing new contracts and by tapping new markets. - March 2020 - KONE Corporation has won an order to provide elevators for Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort, located in Cherokee, North Carolina, the United States. Its solution includes 16 KONE MonoSpace elevators that are planned to be installed in August 2020 and are expected to be completed by 2021. Someone Loves You, and You are Not Aware of it yet!
Suppose there's a 3 year course in Language.
First Year they teach alphabets
Second year they teach Grammar.
Third year they teach how to make proper sentences.
If Third year students could make sentences of the same language Doesn't it prove they were very much part of the whole curriculum?
This example means Christians, jews, Muslims are consecutive religions, one completes the other. Each is incomplete without other.
Christians, Jews and Muslims are not three different religions.
They are religions of different centuries.
When messengers of each religion came they were denied and bothered by the then enemies of faith.
These enemies of faith had similar reasons for rejecting the message, that was some worldly/personal loss.
But the moment messengers left the world almost all people follow the religion, because then finally they come to now that messengers dint have any personal ambition and He wished well for people.
The denial of Prophet Mohammed s.a.w by jews and Christians of that time and this time is illogical.
Have seen lot of scholars of these religions go deep in history, terminology of ancient languages, minutes details about what might have happened
You dont need to be history expert for using common sense.
Be it Prophet Moses (Peace be Upon Him)
Or Prophet Jesus (Peace be Upon Him)
Or Prophet Jonas (Peace be Upon Him)
They all gave message about God and people or tyrants bothered them, rejected them and subjected them to pain, difficulties and suffering.
They had few followers for long time, their popularity reached far, generation of thier time discussed them and amazed by them.
They gave messages which was easily accepted by some, they had small group of loyal people with them.
Each Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) showed a miracle in something that was valued by people of that time.
Some Prophets showed miracles which was beyond Any magic of the world,
Some cured people, some brought food from sky, etc.
This history forms a pattern, this pattern is made obvious by Divine power.
Why? So that corrupt people who obviously manipulate truth, can never hide what was known through the ages.
Why truth is hidden?
It's hidden because it harms worldly desires or profit of some people.
Moses (Peace be Upon Him) was rejected because his message that God is one, unseen, harmed Pharaoh who made people fear him by saying that he is God .
Similarly messages of Prophets ( (Peace be Upon them) were rejected by people who thought if they accepted it then they would lose something.
Some thought they would lose wealth, some thought they will have to leave adultery, interest and some religious people thought they would lose position of being highly respected.
When THIS pattern is UNIQUE to PROPHETS.
How can any sane person refuse to believe in Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) when HE SUFFERED THE SAME THINGS, SHOWED MIRACLES, PEOPLE AROUND HIM COULD SWEAR HE NEVER LIES?
Accepting Prophet Mohammed s.a.w was difficult for Idol worshippers, but it was easy for jews and Christians as they had scriptures, they knew and learned how people treated Prophets in the past. They had an idea what sort of atmosphere is created when a Prophet starts sharing divine message. It should have been doubts free and firm belief in Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) when he was sharing stories of other prophets, even though he couldn't read or write nor was he from Christians or Jewish family to have heard detailed account of prophets.
His initial story was so similar to Prophet Abraham (Peace be Upon Him).
I Think the best example of people who reject Him (Peace be Upon Him) is like a group who was told there will come to them a guest, and they have to treat that guest well for he is important official. If they treat him well their issues will be solved.
All of them waited eagerly to welcome him, then a black man entered.
They pushed him aside saying an important person is expected, move away!
A few of wise people understood that this is the much awaited person, treated him well and took him with them. And this group kept waiting and waiting and they taught thier generations to wait for him!
So this is rejection of truth due to lack of humility and arrogance.
Its arrogance because they decided and were adamant about what the person of high importance should look like!
It was height of ignorance and stubborn mindset that stopped them from getting benefits of truth.
When Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) declared truth, fulfilled every criteria of being in touch with Divine power yet some jews and Christians rejected the message because it was thier obstinance that The last messenger should be from thier group.
They had really shallow fears, the priests thought they would stop getting money from worshippers, will have a lower position now and will have to change their entire way of conducting themselves and upset the rich and powerful people of that area. Some also had fears whether they will be abandoning their beloved religion,
To ALL these QUESTIONS They got answer through Divine message communicated by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him),
These were answers to clear not just doubts but burst the lies and propaganda.
For example- It was said
Those who traded truth with lies for money will have painful torment in hereafter.
There will be double reward for those Christians and Jews who accept Islam because they believed in what was revealed before and after.
Those who misguide people will abandon them on the day of judgment and they will say to their followers why did you follow us, My lord Punish them and leave me.
Is idol worshipping or worshipping of things and humans different from these religions, and has no connection with these religions?
Just like Islam connects Christianity and Judaism ,it Equally connects all forms of worshipping.
The first ever Prophet who faced disobedience of people, it was because of Idol worshipping. It was Prophet Noah (Peace be Upon Him) whose story of making arc is known by all.
The pattern is same. Nobody can claim tomorrow on the day judgement that they dint get information about Prophet or religion or One GOD.
We have documented proves, authentically carried through generations about religions and Prophets.
If there be any doubt you can see human behaviour, and pattern there won't be any doubt.
As per records , idol worshipping started when people lost a great Person they respected and loved.
First They thought they should make a statue which resembles to him so that they keep remembering him and it will help them in guidance.
Then they started visiting that statue, then touching it one thing after another, soon they were wiping thier head with mud of that statue.
You ask even today Why idol worshippers worship stone or things
They will say its a matter of faith, it gives them strength and they feel the presence of God when that statue is around. And mostly they get upset and angry like people got Angry with Abraham (Peace be Upon Him) saying things like how dare you say anything about Our Gods, you are sinner, you will be dead, but what they couldn't answer was a simple question when a thing needs you to carry it, when u ask it doesn't talk, when you break It doesn't even protect itself, when you have more faculties then it has, How CAN THAT BE GOD, WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE EVERYWHERE, ALL HEARING,ALL POWERFUL?
Even today we know one thing, when person who doesn't have answer and doesn't want to be changed for good starts fighting in the name of religion but can't face the simple logics for the unnecessary fear of losing out on his religion.
Hence Prophet Noah((Peace be Upon Him), other prophets, Prophet Abraham all spread the message of God, that God is Unseen, HE is one, He has Power Over everything and HE doesn't need to take shape or form for you to worship HIM.
Never worship something thats created or made by humans , nor should you worship things that are created by LORD, sun moon, sky, fire, earth, other humans.
I request you to know about Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) so that you experience the beauty of worshipping Lord in ways He (Peace be Upon Him) Taught us.
Islam Makes you self dependent, good human and changes perception of life in such a way that you won't run after shallow things.
Once you get to know Islam you will know its way of life. IF you have read it till here, am sure You are person of intelligence and emotions. DO TRY TO KNOW ABOUT ISLAM. TAKE YOUR TIME, BUT KNOW IT FROM CONVERTS OR MUSLIMS personally.
Ever since i came to know the reality of media and entertainment industry, it bothers me how people who would have known truth easily are Being misled and kept away from something so precious that can heal them, help them and improve their life in ways they can't imagine.

What Can Chipotle Teach Us About Mexican Food?
Tumblr media
White-centered food narratives appear most often at major chains. It’s time to hold them accountable.
I’m a professional chef, and up until three years ago, I had no idea what barbacoa really meant.
I thought I did. I’d eaten my fair share of “barbacoa” at Chipotle, where its shredded-beef burrito was my splurge order. But on a tour of Xochimilco, a tapestry of canals and artificial islands that was once a major source of local produce for Mexico City, Paco, my tour guide, took me to his favorite barbacoa stall, where we were greeted with three juicy tacos and a bowl of lamb broth to wash it all down. When I mentioned that I’d thought barbacoa was only beef, he gave me a quizzical look: “Oh yeah? Where have you been eating barbacoa?”
As a chef, I was a little embarrassed by my lack of knowledge. But as someone deeply convinced that food is an extension of identity, who has experienced first-hand the harmful impacts of stereotypes seeping into cultural norms and is now actively working toward changing them, I was horrified at how easily I accepted something completely stripped of cultural context sold to me by a chain.
But such is the world of giant quick-service and fast-casual business: Find interesting, “trendy,” flavorful ideas from any culture, dilute them into their most mass-marketable forms, and reap monetary gain without acknowledging the sources. Although these chains, due to sheer size and reach, are often representing certain dishes or cuisines to large swaths of people — sometimes for the first or only time — they do very little to contextualize the foods they serve. So far, these companies have experienced little pushback and are under no compulsion to change. But as we reckon with the complicated intersection of social and political structures behind food, we have an opportunity to demand a very different future for fast casual.
Barbacoa’s history is a fascinating case study of Caribbean “barbecue” (aka barbacoa) evolving as it moved through Mexico, where lamb or mutton would be wrapped in maguey leaves and steamed underground, and into Texas, where cattle heads were substituted for sheep due to regional availability. It is a laborious process, hence why devotees happily line up for chefs they believe can work magic in the meat, like Cristina Martinez of Philadelphia’s South Philly Barbacoa.
While the final shredded texture of beef barbacoa may resemble that of Chipotle’s “slow-cooked beef combined with water” — as it’s described by Chipotle’s culinary director, Chad Brauze — it comes nowhere close to representing barbacoa technique. In calling this filling “barbacoa,” a sharp contrast to its straightforward “chicken” and “steak,” Chipotle has found an easy way to add a marketable tinge of foreignness to its menu to back up its cred as a “Mexican” grill.
Tumblr media
This is not to say food can’t, or shouldn’t, evolve. The very core of food culture is adaptation to new environments, new palates, new people, new ingredients — and these exchanges are not always peaceful or mutually beneficial. Barbacoa has changed over time to include beef as a common protein choice, Spam musubi is now a well-loved Hawaiian staple, and so forth — but ignoring history in search of “approachability” only serves to entrench distorted power dynamics that persist to this day.
As barbacoa becomes another “familiar” option on the steam table, we must examine who has the power to force the process of adaptation and assimilation for profit, and who does not. In the case of food, all that PR fluff about bringing people together completely misses — or perhaps purposefully conceals — the truth that with power, the food of another culture can become a mere commodity, a cog in the wheel of capitalism separate and distinct from the people closest to it.
At $4.9 billion in revenue and close to 2,500 locations as of 2018, Chipotle’s influence is undeniable. “One of the best things about Chipotle is our reach ... in many diverse communities throughout the United States and beyond,” Brauze said in an email. Yet when it comes to educating this diverse audience — some of whose view of “Mexican” food has been shaped specifically by Chipotle’s interpretation — he deflects observations of the chain’s responsibility. “We hope that all people will arm themselves with a greater knowledge of where their food comes from, what ingredients are utilized, and how it’s prepared.”
Maybe it is too much to expect a giant company like Chipotle, run by a primarily white C-suite and most famed for an efficient assembly line, to provide an anthropological perspective for each dish. But what is the inflection point of scale and profit where accountability also sets in, whether it feels “fair” or not?
Nomenclature is arguably the most visible — and therefore hotly contested — aspect of food representation. To have the ability to name something is power, and to proliferate that name widely is influence. At Noodles & Company, with 460 locations and a revenue of $458 million in 2018, dishes are titled “Japanese Pan Noodles” or “Spicy Korean Beef Noodles,” harking back to a likely inspiration (yakisoba) or arbitrary ingredient choice (gochujang). It’s easy to assume these are the results of a flippant naming process, but they’re in fact quite deliberate; as the chain’s executive chef, Nick Graff, explains, names are determined after conducting “online screening tests and taste panels where guests can tell us what naming convention best represents their expectations once they have experienced the dish.”
Consumers do not produce these flattened, generic names in a vacuum. It’s a result of centuries of blurring and erasure of geographic, historical, and cultural nuance, socialized into an idea that “other” places are more homogenous and less important. Consistent exposure to governmental and corporate propaganda has reduced vast regions like “Asia,” “Africa,” and “the Middle East” into amorphous descriptors barely varied enough to distinguish, their differences of little regard, and the essence of their cuisine easily distilled into a few fried wonton strips or a pinch of garam masala.
Generic menu names are the result of centuries of erasure of geographic, historical, and cultural nuance.
Within this self-reinforcing cycle, it’s unsurprising to see examples like Wendy’s limited-run “Asian” Cashew Chicken Salad, a riff on “Chinese” chicken salad that conflates China with Asia and disregards its complicated roots in assimilation and cultural adaption. (Wendy’s declined to comment for this story.) Even a trip to the grocery store yields similar findings: Enter Trader Joe’s painfully stereotyped Trader Ming’s line, which sells blurry pan-Asian items like Kung Pao Tempura Cauliflower in a package accentuated by a “Chinese”-ish font. (Recently, Trader Joe’s vowed to rebrand its “ethnic” lines, but has since reversed course.)
It’s easy to dismiss these collective occurrences as a byproduct of capitalism, to make excuses for the middle managers who aren’t willing to risk their own necks to push back. But food has always been entrenched in Western colonization, imperialism, and enslavement, and it continues to shape (and change) public opinion. The way we allow these national and international chains to treat a food culture implicitly shows the respect (or lack thereof) we have for the people represented by these cuisines — and it is with this backing that appropriative, white-centered food narratives can take place.
For instance, Google searches for “Nashville hot chicken” jumped from an interest index of 4 to 100 after KFC released its version in January 2016, with the New Yorker calling it a “viral sensation.” Yet no part of KFC’s marketing includes a mention of Prince’s, where the dish originated. (KFC declined to comment for this story.) The chasm left by KFC’s silence gives way to a very different, white narrative. Within the year, Food Republic treated the African-American soul of hot chicken as a mere footnote: “Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack may have created hot chicken in the 1930s ... but Hattie B’s has made hot chicken cool,” it said of a newer hot chicken contender in Nashville, after calling Hattie B’s chef “the man who launched the Nashville hot chicken craze.”
This erasure of foodways has further manifested in disasters like “pho gate,” where Bon Appétit anointed a white male chef as the expert on pho, allowing him to bend the narrative of an iconic Vietnamese dish with his own “rules”; Andrew Zimmern’s restaurant Lucky Cricket, where the celebrity chef insulted “horseshit” Chinese restaurants to tout his own “authenticity,” ignoring the foundation laid by early Chinese restaurateurs adjusting to an American palate and subsequent creation of a distinct Chinese-American cuisine; and Kooks, the Portland, Oregon, burrito cart whose two young female entrepreneurs proudly admitted to snooping their way into the intellectual property of “tortilla ladies” in Puerto Nuevo, Mexico, in order to profit off of their techniques back home.
These are far from the only times Black culture has been co-opted or immigrants’ contributions dismissed. But the stakes are now higher than ever. Stripping food from its undoubtedly political history in order to offer a sanitized version digestible by the majority allows for the frightening notion that minorities are separate and distinct from what they offer to the country. It suggests that after “we” as Americans have harnessed what we want from them, those people can be discarded.
Protesters shouted at Kirstjen Nielsen for dining at a Mexican restaurant after escalating the “zero tolerance” immigration policy in 2018, but her actions are eerily consistent with those of her predecessors. In the 19th century, Chinese restaurants were lauded as having some of the best food in the country; in spite of that, anti-Chinese political rhetoric was widespread enough to pass the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act — after Chinese laborers had been hired specifically to construct the most hazardous points of the transcontinental railway — which was not repealed until 1943.

How and when foods and cultures are embraced by a historically white-dominant America has had hefty implications. Without racial, socioeconomic, and political power, without the right “image,” ideas command little value — at most they are trendy, at worst “indecent” or even “criminal” if embraced by the minority. But demographics are changing: According to the Brookings Institute, at 45 percent minority, millennials are the most diverse adult generation in U.S. history (Gen Z will be even more so), and this presents an opportunity to push back on problematic nomenclature and representation.
If the actions of these big companies have demonstrated anything, it is that there is power in numbers. It is up to our generation to scrutinize these brands, whose reach permeates our lives on the daily, whose executives (inaccurately) treat America as though they are as white as they are, whose menus and messaging influence the next wave of restaurateurs and food entrepreneurs. One start would be for Chipotle to consider an accurate rebranding of its barbacoa to “shredded beef.”
To light the way, a new wave of fast casuals is actively changing the status quo. For these restaurateurs, the first step has been to hold their own menus accountable.
“A big issue we faced as operators [of a healthy Indian concept] was finding a way to meet consumers midway with their vision of Indian food and what we wanted to present them with,” explains Viraj Borkar, co-creator and culinary director of Inday, an Ayurvedic-based Indian chain. Now in its fifth year, Inday has learned its own lessons: a smooth chickpea puree originally called “chickpea masala” went through a sequence of name changes so as to not misrepresent it to those unfamiliar. (Now it’s no longer on the menu.) The “cauliflower biryani” was further clarified to give the backstory of biryani while explaining the Inday version as non-traditional, with its base of “cauliflower ‘rice’” now available separately on the menu. Borkar stands by the statement that “it is the fast casual’s job to educate people and give clarity” on what it is offering, which sometimes means the company needs to scrap a product causing more harm than good, and start over.
Lucas Sin, a 2019 Eater Young Gun and the culinary director of Junzi, a Chinese fast-casual chain, emphasizes this notion of education with the prevalent use of Chinese characters throughout his menu. No one dish is titled as if it represents a region, even if the flavor combinations may hail from one, and unfamiliar ingredients are deliberately not renamed so guests must actively learn what they are. Finding a balance between the “60 seconds or so” guests take to assess the menu and the terminology he deems important to promote has not been easy. Furu tofu, for example, a lacto-fermented type of tofu unfamiliar to most American consumers, is used throughout the menu and elicits questions, which Junzi’s staff is trained to answer thoroughly.
“The future of fast casual is not to tell people, ‘This is what you should eat because that’s what’s affordable.’”
“[One of the few terms] we’ve ever made up is our Jaja sauce,” Sin says. Because the Junzi sauce resembles the classic zha jiang sauce in flavor, but doesn’t have the ground pork component, he opted to create a phonetically similar word for it.
It is possible to reset the framework for making and serving foods from other backgrounds, too. Sofia Luna, president of Sophie’s Cuban, a Cuban fast-casual chain, hails from Lima, Peru, but saw that Cuban food was particularly popular among the Latinx community in the Financial District, where her family first started operating food stands. To open the restaurant, they brought on Cuban chef Eduardo Morgado to create the menu (with most items still available today) not just as a consultant or research and development chef, but an active owner of the business.
In particular, Luna has paid attention to the implications of naming: “If something is tweaked or modified, we want to be transparent with our customer. Our ‘Pernil with a Twist’ was named that way to ensure customers knew they were not getting a traditional pernil sandwich.”
Chef JJ Johnson of Field Trip, a rice-centered fast-casual restaurant with two locations in New York City, sees menus as a way to celebrate and expand, not marginalize, consumer perceptions of its roots by providing cultural context. As the menu spans many cuisines, from a loosely Thai-inspired sticky rice shrimp dish with green curry (simply titled “Shrimp”) to a jollof-style basmati rice bowl (“Veggie”), Johnson is adamant that “every culture deserves specificity” and “we don’t call something for a selling point, like ‘The Jamaican Bowl,’ because that’s just lazy.”
“Take jollof, for example,” he explains, “it’s a tomato-based rice, and jollof is about the preparation of the rice. The inspiration of the overall bowl [Veggie] comes from India. It’s somewhat similar to biryani [the bowl uses basmati rice]. We have a map showing people where the rice is from, and we lead with service by explaining the technique behind the rice. So if someone asks for ‘Spanish rice,’ we can say, ‘What kind of Spanish rice?’ and show them how there are styles, and there are regions.” By using straightforward language accented with in-person dialogue, Johnson is demonstrating that no restaurant “has” to lean on tired tropes to express flavor.
And it’s working: All of these fast casuals have seen steady engagement from customers since opening, disproving the idea that consumers exclusively care about convenience. The owners attribute part of this brand loyalty to their larger commitment to raising conscientiousness and increasing community access to new foods and food cultures. “Every community needs some sort of impact structure to improve,” Johnson says. “I opened in Harlem because I was tired of people telling Black and brown folks that we don’t care about what we eat. The future of fast casual is not to tell people, ‘This is what you should eat because that’s what’s affordable,’ it’s where you can understand your food, where someone can talk to you about it, where you want to try new things and expand what you know.”
These varied dishes all contribute to the growing tapestry of American cuisine, a multi-dimensional story of adaptation, innovation, and survival. Increasing a restaurant’s reach or volume does not entitle operators to shirk the responsibility of explaining the very complexities its foods are based on. Instead, we can embrace learning about food as a natural part of the eating process, each meal an opportunity to deepen our understanding of ourselves and each other.
