something fun about Scooby-Doo as a franchise is that none of the five core characters have consistent family members. Their mothers, fathers, siblings, aunts, uncles & cousins change in every single iteration with no real cross-over between shows (with the notable exception of Scrappy). So if you're writing a general Scooby-Doo fic not based on any one canon, literally all of their families are free game for headcanon-ing. You can do whatever the hell you want with them. Be free

Distractions.
"Y/n,"
You pause, looking through the mirror at Daphne, your fingers run through your curls, a simple lilac dress hugging your frame beautifully.
"Dear, why are you running?" You laugh, raising a questioning brow at the oldest Bridgerton daughter.
"I need your help, the Duke is on his way and I need a moment alone with him-"
"Out of wedlock," You turn around to face Daphne, with a gasp, you place a hand on your chest with a teasing smirk, "How scandalous."
Daphne whacks your shoulder, passing you to take a lipstick from her vanity, "No, I need you to go downstairs and distract Anthony for me, mother has taken the others to the market and you are my only help."
"It will cost you three new books-"
"Of course," Daphne beams, pressing a kiss on your cheek, "Thank you."
You hum in reply, the two of you quickly scurrying to window as the carriage arrives at the front of the house. You both share a look before the two of rush out her room and down the stairs, hands held together as you try not too trip over your dresses.
"Go quickly, I'll distract him," You gently push Daphne towards the door before rushing towards Anthony's office.
Taking a deep breath, you straighten your dress and gently knock on his door. Hearing a faint, 'come in', you gently open the door, popping your head around the corner as he looks up from his desk.
"Lord Bridgerton," You greet with a smile, "I was wondering-"
"What are you up too?" Anthony frowns, placing down his work, "You have that look on your face-"
"I have no look upon my face-"
"You certainty do-"
"My face holds nothing but beauty,"
Anthony laughs, standing up as you smile teasingly at him, "You hold a lot of beauty, Lady Taylor."
You feel your cheeks blush as he gets himself a drink, he leans against his desk as he watches you. You hold his eyes for a moment before clearing your throat, "I was wondering if you wanted to walk with me in the gardens, Daphne is busy-"
"Of course," Anthony replies, taking his jacket from the back of his chair.
"Are you not busy?"
"Not for you," Anthony offers you his arm with a smile, "And I can't have my sisters dear friend wondering around alone."
You smile, taking his arm as the two of you head towards the gardens, you look over your shoulder catching Daphne followed by the Duke who gives you a cheeky wink to which you roll your eyes at playfully.
Anthony holds the door for you, and you head out into the gardens. Beautiful lines of flowers lead down the garden path towards the pond, where a tall white fountain sits in the middle of it.
"Its beautiful out here," You say, letting your fingertips run over tall pink flowers, "You should host a picnic."
Anthony hums in agreement, "And whom should attend?"
"Me," You raise a brow at him, making him tilt his head down towards yours with a smile on his own.
"You practically live here," He jokes, "But you are more than welcome."
Your hand falls from Anthony's arm as Hyacinth and Gregory come bounding towards the two of you, their nanny running close behind with bright red cheeks. You catch Hyacinth in your arms, placing the ten year old on you hip as she hugs you.
"Y/n," She beams, "Have you seen our new flowers, mother had them placed by the entrance, they are tall and purple and-"
"They are beautiful," You press a kiss on her cheek, Anthony watches with small smile, holding Gregory's hand in his own as the four of you continue your walk, "What are you two playing?"
"We were just running around," Gregory answers, gently swinging his and Anthony's hands.
"Sounds exhausting," You roll your eyes playfully as Hyacinth giggles at you.
"Anthony?" Gregory pauses, pointing over into the distance, "What is that?"
Your eyes go wide as Anthony looks over at you, then towards the carriage at the front of the house. Anthony races towards the entrance as you place down Hyacinth, taking hers and Gregory's hand as you follow behind him.
Reaching the entrance, the carriage is long gone, leaving Daphne stood at the doors with a small smile. Anthony skids to a stop, looking up at his sister with a questioning look. You stop beside Daphne, holding a cheeky smile as he glares at you, now knowing your true intentions for wanting to go for a walk.
"I best excuse myself," You press a kiss on the two youngest's head before pressing one on Daphne's kiss, who whispers a thank you. Making your way down the steps, you lean up to press a kiss on his cheek, "Have a lovely evening, Ant."
Anthony watches you walk away, fingertips brushing over his cheek as Daphne laughs, he glares up at her, "You are unable to question my love life if you are unable to sort out yours, brother."
Anthony watches as his sister ushers his little brother and sister inside the house before looking over his shoulder in the distance you had wondered off too.
2. Always.
"Lady Taylor,"
You jump in surprise as The Duke bursts into the room, eyes wide, breathing heavily, cloths in disarray. It was late a night, your home library only lit up by a few candles. You place down your book, heart pounding in your chest as catch onto the worry in his eyes.
"Daphne has gone into labour, Y/n," He hurries, offering you his hand as you rush with him through your house.
"What is happening?" Your father questions, stepping outside of his office.
"It's Daphne papa," You quickly explain, slipping on your shoes, "She has gone into labour."
"Wish her my best," You father smiles, looking over your shoulder at the Duke who takes your hand again gently pulling you along, "And you too son, you'll be a fine father."
The Duke smile quickly, closing the doors behind you before climbing into the carriage, "Are you alright?"
Simon nods, knee bobbing up and down, his face written with anxiety, "I am worried."
"Daphne is a strong woman, I have grown up alongside her and she will be a wonderful mother," You reassure him before teasingly adding, "So will you."
Simon laughs, "Thank you, Y/n. She asked for you, she needs you beside her."
"Always."
"As did the Viscount," Simon says, you open your mouth to reply but he beats you too it, "He trusts you, I have never seen Anthony so infatuated."
The rest of the carriage ride is sat in silence. Your heart pounding in your chest as you arrive, Simon rushes out before you, you quickly following as you rush towards Daphne's room. Reaching the hallway towards her room, The Duke runs past the siblings who sit scattered outside the in the hallway. Anthony pushes off the wall he was leaning on, quickly taking your hands as Daphne's scream echoes down the hall as Simon walks back into her room.
Your eyes stay onto his, squeezing his hand, "I have too-"
"I know," Anthony nods, pressing a gently kiss on your hands, "Be with her."
You walk past the siblings, pressing a quick kiss on Hyacinth's head as you pass. Anthony watches as you close the bedroom door behind you, before sighing, slumping back down beside Benedict.
"Are you ever going to come to your senses?"
Anthony frowns, looking at his brother, "Pardon?"
"Y/n, she has grown with us," Benedict leans his head back against the wall, "You don't look at her like how Colin and I do, you look at her as if she holds your world."
Anthony shakes his head, "I do not wish to burden Y/n with our family-"
"She is family."
Hours had past. Gregory and Hyacinth had gone to bed, the rest of the siblings fallen asleep in the hall. Benedict passes his brother a drink as he rubs his eyes tiredly.
"I believe it will be a boy," Benedict mumbles tiredly as Anthony hums in agreement.
Their heads shot up as you quietly come from the room, gently closing it behind you, you smile brightly, "It's a boy."
Anthony and Benedict share a laugh, as the other siblings startle awake. They celebrate together as Anthony walks towards you, gently wiping away the happy tear that rolled down your cheek. He placed a gentle kiss on your forehead as you rest your hands on his chest as holds you close.
"Thank you, Y/n."
"Always, Anthony."
3. Take my hand.
Aubrey Hall looked stunning under the summer sun, the garden decorated with numerous tents, surrounding a platform for dancing, a band siting in the corner.
"It looks truly beautiful," Daphne mutters as you nod in agreement, watching as Lords and Ladies began to dance under the evening sky.
Anthony and Colin walk up to the two of you and Anthony takes a moment to take in how breath taking you look. A sheer black dress sat over a burgundy one with think straps, sheer black gloves reach over your elbows, dark hair curled and pulled into a perfect bun. He smiled gently as you thank him for the drink he passed you, the four of you stand on the steps watching down on the garden party.
"Is that Lord Elton your father is talking too?" Colin asks, squinting under the sun as the three of your follow Colin's gaze, "Why would your father be speaking to Lord Elton, the man that has been rumoured to be the biggest prick of the ton."
Anthony reaches behind you, smacking his brother around the back of his head, but none-the-less doesn't disagree.
"Why would your father be talking to Lord Elton?" Colin asks as Daphne and yourself share a worried expression.
"I will be back in a moment," You rush down the steps and hurry towards your father.
Anthony watches with a heavy feeling sat in his heart as you gently interrupt their conversation. His stare hardens as Lord Elton gently presses a kiss on the back of your hand.
"Stop glaring," Daphne gently nudges her older brothers arm.
"Lady Y/n looks beautiful tonight, I am sure he is hoping for much more,"
Anthony smacks his brother again as Daphne rolls her eyes at the two, "Anthony, you truly need to see that Y/n would be a fine wife for you."
"She is your closest friend, Daphne," Anthony replies, swallowing thickly as he watches you, "She is family-"
"She makes the world stop for you, doesn't she?" Daphne rhetorically asks, "She makes you happy and you make her happy too, I only wish for the two of you to be happy together."
Anthony looks down at his sister, mirroring her soft smile as he presses a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Colin chuckles, "In other words brother, be a man and tell her how you feel." Colin ducks before his older brother could smack him.
You pull your father to the side as Lord Elton walks away to get himself a drink. Your father was the only family you had after your mother's passing a few years ago. Recently, your father had been having these spells as your father calls it, moments where he forgot about the world around him and focused on the stars, believing your mother was calling him from the stars.
"Lord Elton is a good man-"
"Father, I understand you are worried but he is not a good man, I wouldn't be happy-"
"But you would be safe and have money, the children you have will be looked after," You father gently argues, cupping your face he brushes his thumb over your cheek, "If I can not remember you, my darling, I want to forget with you secure and with someone I trust."
"You trust him?" You ask, brows pinched together as you look at your father, "Don't you want me to be happy?"
"Lord Elton is hardly around, he is wealthy," You father answers, "You would have my inheritance-"
"That he would take, he is a wicked man-"
"You mustn't think the worst of people," Your father's gaze harden slightly as he sighs, shoulders dropping, "I don't know how long I have left and I need you to be safe when I pass."
"I will-"
"Lord Elton will provide for you, and he has enough to do so," You father finalizes, "I will be giving him my blessing."
Your father walks away as you watch with a sudden pit of anxiety sat in your stomach. Looking over your shoulder the Bridgeton siblings had disappeared which your thankful for as you rush up the stairs and into the house.
You rush further into the house, away from the garden party, you finally sob, pressing a gloved hand over your mouth as you slide down the wall, falling into tears.
Outside Anthony watches as you quickly walk away and into the house, passing his drink to Benedict before quickly following. He smiles politely as people greet him before rushing further into the house. Anthony frowns, falling beside you to bring you into a hug letting you sob into his chest.
"My father is ill," You whisper, as you wipe away your tears, moving to lean your head on his shoulder.
"I am sorry," Anthony replies, pressing a kiss on your head, "What is wrong?"
"He has these spells," You quietly say, "He believes he can hear my mother and she is telling him to meet him in the stars, he has fits and spells of anger where he locks himself in his office."
"What can be done?" Anthony take one of your gloves off, lacing your fingers together.
"Nothing," You reply, wiping another fallen tear, "He wants to marry me off to Lord Elton so he can pass knowing I am safe-"
"Lord Elton is a wicked man-"
"Please tell my father, Ant," You lean your chin on his shoulder as he peers down at you, "I don't want to marry him."
"I know," Anthony presses a kiss on your forehead, "I won't let it happen."
You breath a laugh, tightening your hand in his, "And how will you do that, my Lord?"
Anthony swallows thickly, before resting his forehead on yours, "Whatever to make sure you are happy."
4. Our final moment.
On a warm summers day, your father hosted a game of croquet, inviting the Bridgerton family, The Duke and Lord Elton for a friendly game. Taylor summer house was grand, your favourite home; tall tower like structures either side of the grand entrance, a library with bookcases from the floor to the ceiling and a garden that reached for miles, the house surrounded by trees. It was simply beautiful.
"May I say," Lord Elton says, pushing back his thick dark hair off the thin line of sweat, "This house would be magnificent to raise children in."
You share a look with Daphne after Lord Elton winked at you. Anthony glared at him as the Duke nudged him, raising a brow at him to which he rolled his eyes at. You gently tugged the sleeves of your lace sleeves over your knuckles as your father awkwardly chuckles, breaking the slight pause at the Lord's comment.
"I think Lord Taylor and I will sit the rest of this out," Violet gently smiles, placing a comforting hand on your arm sensing your uneasiness.
"I agree, I grow tired quickly now I grow old," You father jokes, smiling gratefully as Benedict passes him a drink before he sits.
"You've been old for awhile, father," You press a quick kiss on his head as you pass, smiling as Anthony passes you a blue mallet. The sibling's yourself and the Duke, carry on with the game, walking down the garden hill to the next match.
"What a quick tongue," Lord Elton jokes, taking the yellow mallet from Anthony's hand, "I am sure we can fix that when you'll be mine."
"I am no object you can claim," You take the yellow mallet from his hands, passing it back to Anthony as you pass, "And I do not need to be fixed."
Anthony shares a smirk with Simon as Daphne and Eloise share a laugh hidden under their hands. Benedict pats your shoulder with a proud smile before you take your shot perfectly.
As the game continues, you stand beside Anthony and Daphne, laughing gently at Colin's misfortune and bad aim. Lord Elton follows on, whacking the ball and Anthony's out the way making Anthony's roll down the hill. Anthony glares as you roll your eyes at Lord Elton's smirk. Daphne goes next, sending a cheeky wink to her husband as she hits your ball, coincidently making it follow Anthony's.
"I guess we need to go for a hunt, Lord Bridgerton," You smile cheekily, taking Anthony's arm.
As Lord Elton goes to object, Anthony smiles, "We will catch up, continue."
Simon wraps an arm around Daphne's shoulders as the two share a knowing smile.
Anthony and yourself walk down the hill, your hand falls into his in a more intimate moment, his thumb brushing over your knuckles. The two of you found your croquet balls stuck in mud at the edge of the tree line.
"Come on,"
Anthony watches as you walk into the mud, bunching your dress in one hand. You whack the ball out of the mud, before looking at Anthony with a raised brow. He chuckles before sighing as he steps into the mud, whacking the ball out of the mud and beside yours. Anthony takes a step out of the mud, sighing at his new black shoes now covered in mud.
"Anthony,"
Anthony looks over at you, who is struggling to get out of the mud, your mallet now fallen beside you as you try and pull your foot out. Anthony steps back into the mud, hand catching yours, as he gently pulls you into his arms.
Looking down at you, you hold onto his arms, tugging gently to try and free yourself, "May I lift you?"
"You may,"
Placing his hands on your waist, you wrap your arms around his shoulders as he lifts you out of the mud. As he goes to walk out of the mud, he finds himself stuck making to two of you tumble forward. You back hits the mud first, his body falling on yours. The two of you gaze at each other, before breaking into a fit of laughter, your arms wrap around his shoulders, legs slotted together.
"Your covered in mud," Anthony murmurs as the laughter dies, bright smiles gracing your faces.
"My back and just your knees," You wink, "How scandalous."
Anthony laughs again, eyes searching yours as his cheeks blush pink, "A rumour that may save you from marriage."
"So that was your plan all along,"
"Possibly."
His eyes flickered over your face, before falling onto your lips, you barely tilted your head at him, raising your brows when you let your eyes level at his mouth, at those pink lips.
"Anthony," You breathlessly whispered.
His lips meet in the most romantic kiss, one full of passion and unspoken love. A muddied hand cupped your cheek as Anthony leaned down on his elbow beside your head, you hands fell to cup the back of his head, fingertips running down his nape as you pulled him, if possible, closer. You moaned into his mouth as the hand that once cupped your cheek gripped your hip tightly bunching your dress in his fist as instinctively hitch your leg over his hip.
The kisses turn more hungry and needy, his tongue dancing over yours as his hips press into yours. His hand runs over your ankle that sits on his hip, running his hand down the length of your smooth leg before resting it on your upper thigh.
"Lady Y/n! Anthony!"
The two of you quickly pull apart as Colin comes bounding down the hill. Scrambling to your feet, Anthony helps you out of the mud before picking up your mallet passing it to you before picking up his own. Colin stops, looking between the two of you with a wide cheeky grin.
"You have a little mud on your cheek," Colin points to your cheek making your eyes go wide as you quickly try brushing away the mud off your cheek.
"We will be there in a moment," Anthony tells his brother.
Colin nods, unable to take the smile off his face as he sends you a cheeky wink before walking back up the hill. Anthony takes his handkerchief from his pocket, standing in front of you as her cups your cheek, gently cleaning the mud from your cheek. His eyes never leave yours as he does. Shrugging out of his jacket, he wraps it around your shoulders, helping you slide your arms into his jacket.
"To hide the mud," He quietly jokes, making you blush.
"Thank you," Anthony smiles, pressing a lingering kiss on your forehead.
5. 'I love you.'
Lord Elton held a ball in order to celebrate your engagement. Though it was a little beforehand as you had yet to be asked for your hand in marriage. The hall was decorated beautifully with white flowers, tall champagne towers and a band playing on a stage.
Anthony was unable to look away from you; a white dress with lace detailing and long sleeves that fell over your knuckles, flower embroidery decorating the skirt. You hair was long and curled, half of it pinned back with delicate pearls.
"You are staring again," Eloise nudged her brothers arm.
"I can not help it," Anthony admits, eyes meeting your as you look over your shoulder, you send him a kind smile though your eyes betray you true feelings.
"This is your last chance to tell her," Eloise tells him softly, taking a sip of her drink, "Or Lord Prick will marry her."
Anthony chuckles, looking down at his sister fondly, "Stop listening to Colin's foul language."
"I believe I learnt that from you, brother."
You grasp your father hand in your own as his began to shake. Lord Elton rambles on about something, but you pay no attention, focusing on your father.
"Lord, I hope you don't mind but I think my father has had enough for tonight," You smile gently at him, "I think its time to go home."
"Of course, I will accompany you-"
"That isn't necessary-"
"When you are mine, I will not let you out of my sight," Lord Elton pulling your father closing to him and out of your hand, "I will take him to the carriage, get whatever you need."
You watch helplessly as he takes you father away, worry sitting in the pit of your stomach as you gently push through the crowd. The announcement that the ball is over is shouted as you take Daphne's hand, gently pulling her aside.
Her worried eyes meet your own, "My father is about to have a spell and Lord Elton is coming with us, possibly to propose, what do I do?"
She squeezes your hand, "Talk to him, quickly. My brother loves you, go before it's too late."
You nod, quickly pressing a kiss on her cheek before quickly walking towards the eldest Bridgerton brother. He stands alone, waiting for his siblings and mother to collect themselves before getting into the carriage. His eyes widen as you approach meeting you halfway, placing his hand on your shoulders as his eyes meet your worried ones.
"What happened?"
"I am taking my father home, he is unwell," You rush out, "Tell me you love me."
"Pardon-?"
"The prick will propose with my father's blessing in his state, he is playing a wicked game and I know it, so tell me you love me as I love you and be the man my father wants me to marry, be that man I feel safe with."
Anthony's brain pauses, his heart stopping as his hands fall from your shoulders. You heart hurts, taking his moment to mean rejection. You look over your shoulder as a butler calls your name, telling you a carriage has arrived.
Looking back at Anthony, he stares, eyes glazed over as you nod once before walking away, brushing past the Bridgerton siblings, ignoring Daphne as she calls your name.
"He missed his chance," Eloise sadly mutters, head falling onto Benedict's shoulder as he watches his older brother crumble.
---
Holding your father's hand tightly, you guide him through the house as he mutters quietly to himself. Taking him into the office, you sit him down into the chair before pulling the curtains closed, closing your father away from the heavy rain and sudden shout of thunder.
"What is happening?" Lord Elton asks as you father mutters to himself, head in hands as you kneel beside him.
"He is fine," You defensively dismiss him, "Thank you for your assistance but you may leave-"
"He is losing his mind," Lord Elton laughs, watching as your father gently rocks himself, looking up at the ceiling, muttering about your mother and the stars, "Look at the man."
"Don't you dare-"
"Do what?" Lord Elton rhetorically asks, taking a further step into the office, "You are simply a woman and he is a freak."
"You are simply a beast of a man, one that is cruel and heartless," You spit, clutching your father hands tighter in your own as a tear rolls down your cheek, "I will never except your hand in marriage."
Lord Elton glare down at you, before spitting horridly at yours and your fathers feet, "I wouldn't touch the Bridgerton's whore anyway."
"Leave before I write to the Queen herself, describing how much of a prick you truly are, and then no woman will want to touch you."
Lord Elton snarls before slamming every door on his way out. You turn to your father, letting go of one of his hands to gently cup his face, he tiredly blinks at you as you wipe away a tear.
"I am sorry," Your father quietly whispers, "I am so sorry, my dear."
"Do not apologise, you wanted what was best for me," You reply with a quick pained smile, "But I am afraid what I thought was best for me, doesn't want me."
"Anthony knows, he is just scared." Your father gently rests his forehead on yours, "Your mother was everything to me, when you where born you became everything as well, I want what is best for you and I got carried away in my own worries that you would be alone when I pass that I was unable to see how I was going to marry you with a man that was going to do more harm than happiness."
"You need to rest," You pull away, standing up to help him, "I will ask the cook to get you something warm to eat-"
"I can do that, darling," You father squeezes your hand, giving you a warm smile, "Go and find your happiness."
"I can not leave you like this-"
You father presses a kiss on the back of your hand, "I will be fine, now go."
---
"I froze, how could I be so stupid?"
Benedict sighs, sitting beside his brother, who holds his head in his hands, cheeks stained with tears. Daphne kneels in front of him, placing a hand on his knee as Violet sits the other side of him, placing a comforting hand on her son's back.
"Love makes us do stupid things," His mother gently whispers sadly.
"I have loved her for so long and Y/n tells me she loves me and I suddenly do not know how to reply," Anthony finally breaks, looking at his mother as a tear runs down his cheek, "I have lost her."
"No, no you have not," Violet brings her son in her arms, pressing a kiss on his head, "You can still go to her, tell her before it is too late."
"Lord Elton-"
"Do you honestly believe that Y/n would chose Lord Elton over the one she truly loves?"
Anthony looks down at his sister, who offers him a knowing smile. Benedict pats his brother's shoulder, mirroring Daphne's smile.
Violet nods, squeezing her son's hand tightly, "Go and get your happiness, Anthony."
---
The maids shout after you as you rush out of the house, hands gripping your dress tightly as you run through the rain. You hair sticks to your neck, the white dress ruined but you couldn't find yourself to care.
The Bridgerton siblings and Violet watch as Anthony rushes out of the house, smiling happily as they watch Anthony run down the street. Simon takes his wife's hand in his own, pressing a kiss on her head before gently taking his son out of her arms. Eloise beams as Colin wraps an arm around her shoulder as Benedict wraps his arms around the two youngest. Violet wipes the tear off her cheek as she finally watches her eldest son chase after the purest love.
Rounding the corner, the streets are empty, only lit up by the golden glow from the house windows. You suddenly stop as he does, standing opposite sides of the road. His hair sticks to his forehead, white skirt sticking to his arms as his blue waistcoat is soaked in rain.
Your chest heaves as your heart pounds in your chest, the two of you clash into a hug. His arms wrap around your waist as your wrap around his shoulders, holding you close to him, he presses a light kiss on your neck before pulling away slightly.
"I do, I do love you," Anthony breaths out, "I am sorry I froze, but hearing you tell me you love me, I- It was all I have ever wanted to hear."
You smile, gently pressing a hand to the back of his nape, resting his forehead to yours, "There are many reasons why I couldn't marry Lord Elton, not only because he was a prick but because I couldn't imagine marry anyone else but you."
"Then marry me," Anthony says, nose brushing against yours as he smiles, "Let me call you my wife, let me have children with you, grow old with you, let me kiss you when I want, let me love you."
You share a kiss under the stars, one full of spoken and knowing love, one of passion and understanding. His hand holds the back of your head as your hands slide down his shoulders, resting on his chest, his heart thumping under your touch. He holds onto desperately, kissing you with all his love, before gently pulling away, resting his forehead on yours with a love sick smile.
"I love you," Anthony whispered against your lips.
"I love you too."

Hey folks, this image of Apollo was done for a private commission. Xoxo
The following text is reposted from my previous Apollo Olympians image.
“Phoebus, of you even the swan sings with clear voice to the beating of his wings, as he alights upon the bank by the eddying river Peneus; and of you the sweet-tongued minstrel, holding his high-pitched lyre, always sings both first and last…And so hail to you, lord! I seek your favor with my song.”  (-Homeric Hymn, translated by H.G. Evelyn white)
APOLLO (uh-PAH-low), God of prophecy, oracles, music, art, protector of and disease of boys and men, and archery. Just as his twin sister Artemis is patron to women and girls, Apollo is both protector, and killer from disease of boys and men. In my Illustration the god holds his bow and arrows behind, while he strums the lyre gifted to him by trickster Hermes. Near the sun flies his ally and divine messenger, a white raven. The column on the right is capped with a cow, representing his sacred animal as a god of herds. The serpent Python sits dead at his feet, killed by Apollo’s arrow so that the god could take over the Delphi temple location. The temple complex sits beneath the god, while on the far right, the Pythia (Apollo’s oracle priestess) sits upon a tripod, breathing the hallucinatory gasses seeping up from the earth to get her prophecies which she bestows upon visitors.
The laurel tree has associations with Apollo because the god, chasing a Naiad (water nymph) named Daphne call out to Gaia (mother earth) for help, who transformed the nymph into a laurel tree, which the god adopted as his sacred tree. In book 1 of the Iliad, Apollo supports the Trojans by raining down a plague on the Greeks, and later helping Paris to kill Achilles. Apollo’s cruelty is shown in Ovid’s mythical lyre contest with the inventor of the flute; a satyr named Marsyas. When Apollo suggested they play their instruments upside down, the satyr lost, and was flayed (skinned) alive as punishment for his hubris.

RUMOR HAS IT
There had always been rumours about you and Anthony, but what if they were true now?
Anthony Bridgerton x fem!reader (angst, a bit of smut) + no use of y/n. english isn't my first language
You never allowed yourself to be the centerpiece of a scandal, it wasn't as if you were looking for it, you knew what that did to people's reputations, it was simply that you had always avoided them with all your strengths. Lacking a male figure in your family and being the oldest sister, you became the visible face of your family to society and you could never allow something as stupid as a scandal to destroy the reputation you worked so hard to build.
Since the death of your father, the Queen's favor has always been with your family. She gave you the same opportunities as the men who were the heads of their own families and she always made sure that neither you nor your mother and sisters were missing anything. But now not even the Queen's favor could help you as you saw how everything you did to make society forget that you were a woman leading a family was falling apart.
There had always been rumors about what kind of relationship you and Anthony Bridgerton had. You were often seen together but there was never a gesture, no matter how small, that could make people talk about a possible romance between you two.
Yet they did.
And they loved it.
At balls all eyes were on you when you danced together, everyone murmured when you were seen going into the Bridgertons' house, and on several occasions, your mamas were asked about the date of the wedding. That's why the members of the ton did not doubt for a second that what Lady Whistledown wrote about you was true.
The Queen called your name before you could leave the room.
You closed your eyes as your lower lip trembled with rage. No matter how much trust you had with Queen Charlotte, you could not disobey her in another family's presence. You took a deep breath and ran your hands down the skirt of your dress in an attempt to calm down before you turned around.
Anthony was not alone, his mother, very dear to you, and his younger sister Daphne, a good friend of yours, were with him. The presence of him and the two women made you feel helpless and you felt like you were between a rock and a hard place with the Queen forcing you to stay in the room and the Bridgertons ready to say what they needed to say.
Violet and Daphne Bridgerton looked at you with pity and as much as you hated when people looked at you that way, at least they had the decency to look at you. Not like Anthony, whose arms were behind his back, and his big brown eyes were fixed on the floor.
—Lord Bridgerton is here to apologize —Queen Charlotte said with a big smile while looking at the man in front of you with real hope that all of this would be solved within minutes. Did she really think that this trap was going to solve anything? You were so angry that you could barely hear the Queen talk, only a deafening beeping sound.
Anthony was completely static in front of you. The Queen played with her hands waiting for the man to take his turn to speak. He was trying to find the right words, ones that didn't make you feel worse. But at the same time, he wanted to be honest in order to fix what happened. The best way to do that would be, as the Queen said, to start by asking for your forgiveness.
—I wanted to apolo—.
—Do not. I do not want you to apologize —You said before Anthony could finish the sentence.
Anthony grunted, annoyed. —Then what is it that you want from me if not my apologies?
You were surprised by the sudden change in the tone of his voice. —You should have stood with me!
He huffed a laugh. —Do you truly believe you have been the only one affected by this?
—I only know that one of us has had to hide as if she had the plague and the other one has been able to go on with his life as if nothing happened.
—This is not working, obviously. —Queen Charlotte said, defeated.
Violet Bridgerton and Daphne were standing behind Anthony. Both women shared a few glances after seeing how much tension there was between the two of you. They were concerned about your friendship being broken forever.
—No, it is not. She is not willing to listen —Anthony answered the Queen.
—Listen? —You tilted your head slightly, your eyebrows raised in disbelief. —You know what I have been listening to these days, Anthony? I have been listening to my little sisters asking my mother if it was true what people were saying about me. I have, also, been listening to people talk and then suddenly shut up when I walked in anywhere.
—You still think you have been the only one affected. —Anthony shook his head. —I have a family as well—!
—You are a man, Anthony! This has not been half as difficult for you as it has been for me. People have not talked and said half as much about you as they have said about me and my family! You should have protected both of our reputations but you abandoned me as the coward that you are! So do not come here and try to give me lessons because I have proven to be twice the gentleman that you are.
Everyone was silent in the Queen's salon.
—Good evening, my Lady. —Anthony bowed slightly in front of you and left, clenching his fists and with loud footsteps that echoed throughout the room.
You were left alone in the Queen's salon along with Charlotte herself and the two Bridgerton women. They looked at you expecting a reaction, some word or gesture to let them know what was going through your mind, but instead, you also left the room. You followed the same path he did down the Queen's large corridor but instead of going outside, you continued walking angrily through the palace.
As you walked in your head echoed all the words that Anthony had said, his fake apology, how he seemed oblivious to how he had covered his back and left you unprotected. You ended up going into one of the Queen's rooms, you knew the place very well but at that very moment you didn't even care which room it was, you just needed to rest and be alone for a minute.
You closed the door and rested your forehead against the wood of it, taking a big breath of air.
—Were you following me?
You turned around, scared by the sudden male voice. Once you realized who he was, you huffed a laugh and rolled your eyes.
—Trust me when I tell you that following you anywhere is the last thing in the world I would do.
Anthony shook his head. You tried to get out of the room but he spoke again.
—I have already asked for your forgiveness. What else should I do?
—It is too late for that, Anthony.
—Surely there is something I can do.
—Anthony... —You called his name while shaking your head. He was stepping closer to you and you threatened to walk out of the room.
—What if we married?
There was silence for a few seconds. His deep brown eyes looked at you waiting for an answer.
—I could never marry you —. You stated.
Anthony's brow furrowed slightly. He could not hide that the determined tone in your voice hurt him.
—After everything that has happened, when I think of you it is the closest thing to hatred I have ever felt —You explained. You could see the expression on Anthony's face change, he never thought he would live to listen to you compare what you felt for him to hatred. —I could never marry you, Anthony.
—You do not mean that.
The confidence in his tone surprised you. You doubted whether it was he who did not want to believe what you said or if you didn't sound convincing enough.
—Oh, yes I do.
Anthony shook his head. He took a few steps to get closer to you and you clenched your jaw and tightened your fists, taking your hand to the doorknob. —After all these years of friendship you tell me that the only thing you feel for me is hate?
You moved away from the door and walked towards him, pointing a finger at Anthony. —Do not dare to give me the after all these years of friendship when you left me the way you did. —You said through gritted teeth.
—I have already apologized and even asked you to marry me and it is still not enough so tell me what to do! —Anthony was frowning angrily as he moved closer to you. Your finger hit against his hard chest and he looked you in the eyes.
—Nothing you do will be enough!
Anthony grabbed your cheeks and kissed you. You pushed him away and both of you stared at each other for a few seconds. Him kissing you in the middle of the argument made you even angrier and you wanted to hit him, but instead, you pressed your lips against his.
Your hands sank into his brown hair, tugging at the root and making him groan into your mouth. His hands went to your ass and squeezed it shamelessly as he walked you to the nearest piece of furniture which happened to be a large, round table in the center of the room. Anthony removed all the decorations on the table with one swipe yet being careful not to break anything and helped you to lie down on it.
He leaned in to give you a trail of kisses, starting from your mouth to your neck until he reached your breasts. He sucked and licked the soft skin exposed thanks to your dress and you bit your lower lip.
You were still upset with him, the way you kissed him roughly and the way you were still pulling from his hair tightly showed that you had not forgotten what he had done.
You were upset with him, but you were even more upset with the person who saw you the night of the ball. You didn't know who it was, it could've been a man, a woman, it could've been a member of the ton, or someone from the service. Maybe it had been Lady Whistledown herself or maybe she heard it from someone else. The thing was that you were caught and your little adventure with Anthony ended up in one of Lady Whistledown's papers.
Dearest Gentle Reader,
Just when we thought the season couldn't possibly deliver any more excitement, it appears that two of our esteemed members have been caught in a rather compromising position. Yes, dear readers, you read that correctly. A scandal of this magnitude is rare indeed.
The scene of this scandalous event was none other than the ball at the Bridgerton house. Our sources report that the dashing Viscount Bridgerton and his enchanting lifelong friend were discovered in an embrace that left nothing to the imagination. Whispers suggest that this clandestine affair has been ongoing for some time, much to the oblivion of their respective families.
Dear readers, brace yourselves for the inevitable fallout. Will this scandal lead to social ostracism, or will our impassioned couple find a way to weather the storm? Your faithful scribe will remain ever vigilant, ready to report the next development in this thrilling saga.
As always, I remain your faithful correspondent, ever ready to reveal the most delicious secrets of our glittering world.
Yours truly, Lady Whistledown
It was true. Everything she wrote about Anthony and you was true. No matter how hard you both tried to deny it, it happened. Anthony went on with his life as if nothing had happened, still denying it even though people found it hard to believe the viscount. He distanced himself from you and as much as you tried to talk to him and ask for his help, he had to protect the Bridgerton name.
But he couldn't take it anymore, his chest burned at the thought of losing you, he would wake up at night after dreaming about the last time he saw you. In front of his family, Anthony tried to pretend that everything was fine but every Bridgerton knew, from the way Anthony acted every time they talked about you, that Lady Whistledown wasn't lying.
Now that Anthony had you for himself again he wasn't planning on letting you go again.
When his hands were making their way up your inner thighs, the door opened all of a sudden and you parted from each other as fast as you could. You stood up from the table as Anthony brought his hands behind his back and bowed his head while you fixed your dress.
—You two do not learn! —Daphne exclaimed.
You bit the inside of your cheeks, embarrassed. You and Anthony shared a glance and you noticed that his cheeks were flushed.
—In our defense, we are getting married —. You excused yourselves.

The pure chaos and Bridgerton dumbassery of Anthony walking in on Eloise making out with Cressida is just comedic gold waiting to happen like,
Anthony: You will marry her!
Cressida: Yes, well unfortunately I cannot do so.
Anthony: Have you no shame, Miss Cowper? You have defiled my sister! She is ruined!
Cressida: And I would be happy to make right by her. However—
Anthony: No excuses! You will marry her or we will deul at dawn!
Benedict: Is it not ungentlemanly to deul a young lady?
Anthony: …yes well… you will marry her or… or Kate will deul you at dawn!
Kate: I’m not doing that.
Anthony: Babe, please.
Kate: You’re an imbecile.
Anthony: Fine. Colin will duel Miss Cowper.
Colin: Why must I be the ungentlemanly one?
Anthony: Because someone must!
Daphne: Someone must what?
Benedict: Deul Miss Cowper.
Daphne: Whyever would one of you need to deul Miss Cowper?
Anthony: Because I caught her in the act of defiling our sister!
Daphne: Right… well passion can sometimes get the best of us when we are in love. As long as Miss Cowper does the honourable thing and marries Eloise—
Anthony: She is refusing!
Francesca: Why would you refuse? You both seem so in love.
Cressida: I am not refusing! I am merely confused regarding how exactly I am supposed to—
Daphne: Worry not, brother. I will handle this. *cracking her knuckles* You will marry her or come the dawn our pistols meet and you will take your final breath in the presence of my gleeful victory.
Everyone: …
Benedict: Is anyone else suddenly very afraid of Daphne?
Hyacinth: Cressida and Eloise will make the most beautiful children.
Gregory: Do you think if I ask they’ll name one after me?
Meanwhile
John: Should we maybe… intervene?
Simon: Of course not. When it comes to the Bridgertons it is every man or woman for themselves.
Kate: She must learn to stand on her own. She’ll never survive this family otherwise.
Penelope: Survive this family? Do you actually believe they’ll make it to the wedding before realising two women are unable to wed?
Kate: No. But when love is involved the Bridgertons will find a way and love most certainly is. I called this six months ago.
Simon: Agreed. Though if they are to marry someone must first hunt down Eloise.
John: What are you talking about she's right… where the hell did she go?
Penelope: Oh she’s long gone. She snuck out as soon as Anthony brought up marriage.

The Draconic | 18+ (Modern AU Aegon Targaryen x Y/N)
When you’re in London, The Draconic is the place to be. It’s only the hottest club in town, where the drinks are as fiery as the dragons they’re named after, owned by Aegon Targaryen, the self-proclaimed nightlife king. Enter Y/N, Helaena’s best friend, who somehow finds herself tagging along, knowing Helaena’s outings usually end with a story worth telling (or hiding).
TW // Explicit sexual content, profanities, rough sex, mild BDSM elements, substance use (alcohol), smoking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Draconic exudes an air of mystery and exclusivity, with its grand entrance flanked by imposing dragon sculptures and the soft glow of green and gold lights illuminating the facade.
Inside, sultry Bossa Nova music drifts through the air, mingling with the soft hum of conversation and clinking glasses. The main lounge is a spectacle of emerald and gold hues, with plush velvet seating and marble floors adorned with dragon motifs. Crystal chandeliers cast a shimmering light over the scene, creating an almost otherworldly ambiance.
At the center of the revelry, basking in the attention, stands Aegon Targaryen. He is every bit the king of this lavish domain, exuding confidence and charm as he mingles with the elite guests. His presence is magnetic, drawing eyes and whispers as he moves through the room, a glass of the finest bourbon in hand.
Y/N stood at the entrance of The Draconic, her eyes wide with awe as she took in the grandeur of the club. “Fuck me, this place is something else, Hel,” she muttered, her voice dripping with astonishment.
Helaena, with a cheeky grin, looped her arm through Y/N’s. “Told you, love. My brother couldn’t do subtle if it slapped him in the face.”
Y/N grinned. “Just promise me we won't end up in the tabloids... again.”
Helaena laughed, shaking her head. “Oh, darling, wherever Aegon goes, the cameras follow. It's like he's got his own bloody paparazzi fan club.”
Y/N snorted. “And it doesn’t help that your brother goes through London socialites faster than toilet paper in a public loo.”
Helaena rolled her eyes. “Tell me about it. Last week, he was dating some heiress named Daphne. This week, it’s a Russian model called Tatiana. Next week, who knows? Perhaps the prime minister’s daughter.”
They made their way inside, the sultry Bossa Nova music wrapping around them like a velvet cloak. The air was perfumed with the scent of expensive cologne and the subtle, smoky undertone of fine cigars. As they passed through the grand foyer, Y/N couldn't help but marvel at the dragon sculptures and the exquisite marble flooring.
“No phones allowed, remember,” Helaena reminded her, handing over their devices to the stern-looking security guard.
They entered the main lounge, and Y/N felt as if she'd stepped into another world. Patrons lounged on emerald green velvet seats, their conversations low and conspiratorial. The bar, a stunning creation of green onyx and gold, was the centerpiece of the room, with bartenders expertly mixing drinks for the elite clientele.
“There he is,” Helaena said, nudging Y/N. “Aegon.”
At the heart of the room, Aegon Targaryen commanded the space. His silver hair was slicked back, and his suit was tailored to perfection. He exuded an effortless charm, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips as he entertained his guests. The golden dragon pin on his lapel caught the light, a symbol of his dominion over this lavish playground.
“Come now, let's go say hi,” Helaena urged, dragging Y/N through the throng of people.
As they approached, Aegon’s eyes flicked towards them, a slow, calculating smile spreading across his face. “Sister! And this must be…?” he inquired, his voice smooth and welcoming, yet laced with a hint of something darker.
Y/N steeled herself, trying to exude confidence. “Y/N,” she introduced herself, noting that up close, Aegon was even more striking—his silver hair and lilac eyes giving him an almost ethereal allure.
“Ah, so this is the Y/N I’ve heard so much about,” Aegon said with a chuckle, his eyes lingering on her.
Helaena shot him a playful but warning glare. “Stop flirting with my best friend, Aegon. Go find another prey,” she quipped, though there was an edge to her tone that suggested she meant it.
Aegon chuckled lowly, raising his hands in mock surrender. “I was merely admiring,” he said, his voice dripping with insincere innocence.
Helaena stuck her tongue out at him and grabbed Y/N's arm, dragging her toward the bar. “Come on, let’s get you something to drink.”
She ordered two Dragon Blood cocktails, which arrived looking unnervingly realistic, the deep red liquid swirling ominously in the glass.
Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling of eyes boring into the back of her head. She took a sip of her drink, trying to ignore the unease. But she had a pretty good guess as to who was responsible for the intense gaze.
▐░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░▌
Y/N and Helaena were well into their cups, each clutching a glass of Dark Sister cocktail. The liquid inside was an enchanting, a sinister shade of dark red almost purple, flecked with silver specks that swirled hypnotically. The taste was a heady mix of pomegranate and absinthe, with a smoky undertone that left a tantalizing burn in its wake.
Surrounded by a veritable graveyard of empty glasses—was this their eighth drink? Eleventh? They’d lost count hours ago—the two friends were deep in a rambling conversation about Helaena’s eccentric family.
“I mean, can you believe it?” Helaena slurred, her cheeks flushed with a rosy glow. “Mum's dating Rhaenyra.”
Y/N nearly choked. “Rhaenyra? As in, your half-sister Rhaenyra? The one who also has kids with your uncle Daemon?”
Helaena giggled, nodding vigorously. “Tell me about it. Every time I turn around, there's another plot twist. Yes, that one! So now, technically, my mum is dating my half-sister. It’s like our family tree is a vine, just tangling and looping all over the place.”
Y/N burst into laughter, almost spilling her drink. “That’s bloody brilliant. Do they make you call her mum or sis?”
Helaena cackled, nearly tipping off her stool. “Oh, gods, it’s even worse. Mum’s taken to calling her Nyra in that sickeningly sweet voice. And don't get me started on the kids—Joffrey, my little nephew, is fucking confused on how to address Alicent, bless him.”
Y/N was in stitches, tears streaming down her face. “I can’t even—imagine the Christmas dinners!”
Helaena grinned, raising her glass. “Here’s to family. Because who needs enemies when you’ve got relatives like mine?”
They clinked their glasses, the liquid inside shimmering under the club's lights. Y/N leaned in conspiratorially. “So, what’s the deal with Aemond? I haven’t seen him in ages.”
Helaena chuckled, shaking her head. “Oh, Aemond. He’s gone completely off the grid. Last I heard, he was up north in Stromness. When I spoke to him, he was convinced he’d found evidence of a kraken. Sent me a photo of some squiggly line in the water and everything.”
Y/N raised an eyebrow. “Isn’t he a marine biologist or something?”
Helaena nodded, her grin widening. “Yeah, that’s the one. But he’s got this bizarre obsession with mythical creatures.”
Y/N laughed, this time spilling almost half of her drink. “Does he have a little notebook for his ‘discoveries’ too?”
Helaena snorted. “Oh, he’s got notebooks, alright. Filled with sketches of ‘sightings’ and elaborate plans to capture a sea serpent. We’re talking full-on mad scientist vibes.”
Y/N could hardly contain her amusement. “I can just picture him, all serious, scanning the horizon for a glimpse of a mythical beast. Does he ever actually do any real marine biology work?”
Helaena took another sip of her drink. “He does, but only when he’s not busy chasing legends. Last Christmas, he gave us all ‘Unseelie Repellent Spray.’ It was just water in a fancy bottle, but he was dead serious about it.”
Y/N shook her head in amusement. “Your family is a goldmine of entertainment, Hel. I don’t know how you keep up with it.”
Helaena shrugged, a playful smile on her lips. “It’s either laugh or cry, and I’d much rather laugh.
Suddenly, Helaena felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned to find Oscar Tully standing there, his red, curly hair as wild as ever. His boyish face was littered with freckles, and he wore his signature lopsided grin.
“Oscar!” Helaena exclaimed, her eyes lighting up.
“Hel!” Oscar replied, matching her enthusiasm.
The breakup had been mutual, and they’d managed to stay on good terms. They launched into small talk, catching up on life since they last saw each other.
“So, how’s the trout farm going?” Helaena asked.
Oscar rolled his eyes good-naturedly. “Swimmingly, thanks for asking. Someone’s got to keep the world supplied.”
Y/N watched the exchange with amusement.
Oscar turned to her with a grin. “Mind if I steal Hel away for a bit? I promise to return her in one piece.”
Y/N waved her hand dramatically. “Oh, by all means, take her.”
He offered his arm to Helaena with a playful bow. “Milady?”
Helaena rolled her eyes but took his arm. As Y/N watched them blend into the crowd, she decided she’d had enough alcohol for one night. She could bet everything she had that Helaena would come back as drunk as George IV.
Standing up, she stumbled a bit and decided to find a quieter place to collect her thoughts. She remembered spotting some private booths earlier, each with high-backed, gold-trimmed seats and curtains that could be drawn for privacy. Each booth had a unique dragon nameplate.
She randomly picked one marked “Sunfyre,” thinking it would be empty.
To her shock, inside she found Aegon reclined luxuriously on the plush seat, his suit jacket discarded and shirt unbuttoned. The stunning brunette was on her knees between his legs, her head bobbing rhythmically as she performed the act with evident expertise. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, and Aegon’s hand was entangled in her locks, guiding her movements with a mixture of roughness and intensity.
Y/N’s eyes widened as she took in the scene, her breath catching in her throat. The woman’s lips glistened as they slid up and down Aegon’s cock, her hands working in tandem to heighten his pleasure. The air was thick with the sounds of their illicit encounter—the soft, wet noises of the brunette’s efforts and Aegon’s low, guttural groans of satisfaction.
His eyes were closed, his head tilted back against the booth, lost in the sensations. His grip on the brunette’s hair tightened as he pulled her closer, his hips thrusting slightly in response. But then, as if sensing the intrusion, he opened his eyes and locked onto Y/N’s stunned gaze.
For a moment, neither moved. Y/N stood frozen, her heart pounding in her chest, unable to tear her eyes away from the intimate scene. Aegon’s expression shifted from pleasure to surprise.
Before he could say anything, Y/N snapped out of her stupor, spinning on her heel and practically fleeing from the booth. Her mind raced, the vivid image of Aegon seared into her memory. She needed a drink—something strong—to process what she had just witnessed. The night had taken an unexpected turn, and she wasn’t sure if she was ready for where it was heading.
▐░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░▌
Y/N ordered two of the strongest cocktails served at the bar. The bartender, with a knowing smile, brought her a pair of Death by Flames. She downed the first in one go, feeling the intense heat and smoky flavors hit her like a fiery wave, but realized nothing could erase the image of Aegon from her mind.
“Motherfucker,” she muttered, cursing at herself. “Why do I always have the shittiest luck in the entire country?”
Cursing under her breath, she berated herself and her rotten luck. With frustration bubbling up, she decided to make a beeline for the loo, hoping that a splash of cold water might help clear her head.
Y/N stumbled into the bathroom, taking in the dragon-shaped faucets and sinks made of green marble. Gold accents and dragon motifs were everywhere, maintaining the club’s theme. Soft, ambient lighting in shades of green and gold created a warm, inviting atmosphere, with hidden LED strips along the walls and floor adding subtle highlights that enhanced the overall ambiance without overpowering the space.
She splashed her face repeatedly with water, each splash accompanied by a string of colorful profanities. “Bloody hell, piss off, for fuck's sake!”
She glanced at her reflection, seeing the crazed look and blown pupils. “Great, now I look like I’m the one who just gave someone else a fucking blowjob,” she groaned.
She fumbled with her bag, pulling out a pack of cigarettes, hoping to calm her frayed nerves. As she lit up and took a deep drag, she caught her reflection again and decided it was time for a monologue, just to vent her frustration.
“Alright, Y/N, let’s have a little chat. What the actual fuck were you thinking? Did you honestly believe you’d find a quiet spot in a place called The Draconic? Clearly, you’ve lost the plot.”
She took another drag, pacing back and forth. “Oh, sure, let’s follow Helaena. What could possibly go wrong? Well, let me tell you, everything. First, you walk in on Aegon, the living embodiment of a Greek god getting a blow job from a woman who probably just stepped out of a lingerie commercial. And you? You're standing here, looking like you've just crawled out of a bloody coal mine. Fabulous.”
She paused, flicking ash into the sink. “Why, oh why, did I think coming to this club was a good idea? I’ve got Helaena’s ex chatting her up, and me, well, I’m left with the delightful mental image of Aegon’s magnificent cock. Just brilliant. What’s next? Is the bloody Kraken going to pop out of the toilet?”
Taking one last drag of her cigarette, she flicked it into the dragon-shaped ashtray with a flourish. “Right, Y/N. Time to pull yourself together, go back out there, and pretend you didn’t just have the most insane moment of your life. Maybe I’ll even find Helaena and we can laugh about this... in about ten years.”
With that, she took a deep breath, splashed her face one last time for good measure, and steeled herself.
It seemed the gods were laughing at her existence because Aegon is leaning casually against the wall outside, a cigarette dangling from his lips and that infuriating smirk plastered on his face.
“Why’d you leave, love? I was about to ask you to join,” he said cheekily.
“Fuck off, Aegon,” she muttered quietly, trying to sidestep him and avoid further embarrassment.
But Aegon moved to block her only path back to the main area. He stood there effectively cornering her.
“Come on, don't be like that,” Aegon teased, leaning closer. “It was just a bit of fun.”
Y/N glared at him, her nerves fraying even more. “Your idea of fun is a bloody nightmare for everyone else.”
Aegon chuckled, clearly enjoying her discomfort. “Oh, you wound me, beautiful. Can’t a man enjoy a bit of company in peace?”
Y/N sighed, looking at him with exasperation. “Look, I didn’t mean to walk in on you. It was pure accident.”
Aegon shrugged it off nonchalantly. “No need for apologies. But did you at least enjoy the show?”
Y/N’s cheeks reddened, her breaths coming raggedly. “I’ve seen better,” she said, trying to sound nonchalant but failing miserably.
Aegon looked at her, unimpressed, clearly not believing her. He took the cigarette from his lips and held it to her mouth so she could take a drag. She hesitated but then took a deep pull, the smoke burning her throat, but the distraction was welcome.
“So, where’s Helaena?” he asked, taking the cigarette back.
“She was whisked away by Oscar and hasn’t been seen since,” Y/N explained, still trying to compose herself.
Aegon raised an eyebrow. “Oscar, huh? Well, that explains a lot. Guess it’s just you and me then.”
Y/N sighed, feeling the massive amount of alcohol she had consumed catching up to her. Her head was starting to pound. “Can I have some water?” she asked, her voice a bit shaky.
Aegon’s smirk softened slightly, and he nodded. “Of course, love.” He placed his hand on her lower back, guiding her gently toward his private office.
The office was a stark contrast to the chaos outside, a sanctuary of dark leather and polished wood. Aegon motioned for her to sit on a leather sofa as he poured a glass of water from a crystal decanter.
“Here you go,” he said, handing her the glass. “Drink up.”
Y/N took the glass gratefully, drinking deeply, the cool water soothing her parched throat and clearing her head slightly. She glanced around the office, noting the various dragon-themed decorations.
“Thanks,” she said, setting the empty glass down on a nearby table.
Aegon leaned against his desk, watching her with amusement and. “Feeling better?”
“A bit,” she admitted, rubbing her temples. “This night has been... a lot.”
Aegon chuckled. “Welcome to The Draconic. It’s never boring, that’s for sure.”
Y/N couldn’t help but laugh, despite everything. “You can say that again.”
Aegon’s grin widened. “Believe it or not, this is one of the tamer nights.”
Trying to be smooth, Y/N asked, “So, where’s your… friend or companion or whatever?”
Aegon shrugged nonchalantly. “Don’t know, don’t care,” he said, his grin turning slightly wicked.
Y/N bit her lip, trying hard to hide the growing wetness between her thighs as she watched him. There was something undeniably magnetic about Aegon, and despite her better judgment, she couldn’t help but feel drawn to him.
“Must be nice, having that kind of freedom,” she said, her voice a bit huskier than intended.
Aegon’s eyes darkened slightly, his gaze locking onto hers. “It has its perks,” he replied, his voice low.
Y/N felt her pulse quicken, the tension between them thickening. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. “Well, thanks for the water. I should probably get back to Helaena.”
Aegon pushed himself off the desk and stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “Sure you don’t want to stick around a bit longer? I can be very entertaining.” he said, his voice dripping with suggestion. “Besides, Helaena is probably also occupied.”
He began to circle around her like a serpent, his eyes never leaving hers. Y/N shivered, feeling the intensity of his gaze and the heat of his proximity. The room seemed to close in around them.
Y/N breathed out quietly, her voice shaking. “I’m Helaena’s friend,” she said, more to convince herself than anyone else. “I shouldn’t be doing anything with her brother.”
Aegon put a hand under her chin, his finger tracing her lips as he whispered, “She doesn’t have to know.”
Y/N moved forward, their lips now almost touching. She could feel his breath, warm and intoxicating, mingling with hers. Her fingers found their way to the nape of his neck, playing with the ends of his hair, feeling the softness against her skin.
“This doesn’t mean anything,” she murmured, her voice barely audible, the words more for her own reassurance.
“As you say, love,” Aegon whispered back, his voice a seductive purr.
In an instant, they clashed into each other, their lips meeting in a rough, demanding kiss that felt like they were devouring each other. The world outside faded away, leaving just the two of them suspended in a moment of dangerous excitement. Their hands moved frantically, tugging at each other’s clothes with a desperate urgency. Y/N felt Aegon’s hands at her back, unzipping her dress, while she fumbled with the buttons of his shirt, their mouths never breaking contact.
“Oh, God, Aegon,” she gasped between kisses, feeling his hands on her skin, the heat of his touch igniting something deep within her.
“Y/N,” he growled, his voice thick with desire.
The kiss deepened, becoming almost primal, as if they were trying to consume each other completely. Y/N’s dress fell to the floor, and she felt the cool air against her skin, contrasting sharply with the heat radiating between them. Aegon’s shirt joined her dress on the ground, followed by his belt and trousers. Her hands roamed over his bare chest, feeling the hard muscles beneath, as his fingers traced the curves of her body.
“Fuck,” Aegon muttered, his lips trailing down her neck, “you’re fit.”
Y/N gasped as his mouth moved lower, his hands gripping her hips with a possessive hunger. He kissed a path down her body, his breath hot against her skin. She shivered, feeling the intense pull of desire.
“Stop,” she managed to say, though her protest was weak. “You’re leaving marks.”
“Good,” Aegon murmured, his voice filled with satisfaction. “I want everyone to know you’re mine tonight.”
Y/N shuddered as his mouth found her clit, his tongue teasing and sucking with expert precision. Her hands tangled in his hair, torn between pushing him away and pulling him closer. Aegon was relentless, his hunger evident in every movement.
“You arrogant bastard,” she gasped, her body betraying her as pleasure surged through her.
Aegon chuckled, the sound vibrating against her most sensitive spot. “So wet, darling, all for me, huh?” he taunted, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction.
His fingers joined the assault, thrusting inside her with a rhythm that had her seeing stars. Aegon was a god at this, his fingers curling just right while his tongue continued its relentless teasing. Y/N’s mewls turned into desperate cries, her body trembling under his assault.
“Mmm, you like that, don’t you?” he murmured against her clit, his tone a mix of degradation and praise. “Such a good girl, taking everything I give you.”
Her body arched, her hips moving instinctively to meet his fingers, the intensity of his touch driving her wild. “Aegon, please,” she whimpered, her voice barely a whisper.
“Begging already?” he smirked, increasing the pressure of his fingers. “Look at you, falling apart just for me.”
Y/N’s vision blurred, her breaths coming in ragged gasps. She was so close, the sensations overwhelming her. His mouth never let up, his tongue a constant source of exquisite torture.
“Come on, love,” he urged, his voice husky with desire. “Let go for me.”
With a final, intense suck and a twist of his fingers, Y/N’s world shattered. Her orgasm hit her like a tidal wave, her body convulsing as she squirted hard, her juices soaking Aegon’s hand and mouth.
“Shit, love,” Aegon groaned, his eyes dark with lust as he watched her. “That’s fucking hot.”
He didn’t stop, drawing out her orgasm with gentle licks and caresses. Y/N’s body trembled, her mind barely able to process the overwhelming pleasure.
As the waves of her climax slowly subsided, she collapsed back, breathless and spent. Aegon moved up, his lips brushing against hers in a possessive kiss.
“I could watch you come like that all night.”
Y/N could only nod weakly, her body still trembling, as she tried to catch her breath.
Aegon began pumping his cock, his hand moving in smooth, practiced strokes. Pre-cum was already leaking from the tip, his veins throbbing with need. He sat down and guided her to straddle him. As she settled on top of him, Y/N noticed a strategically placed mirror, reflecting their entwined bodies clearly.
Aegon’s eyes darkened with a primal hunger. “Ride me, love,” he commanded, his voice low and rough.
Y/N positioned herself over him, her hands on his shoulders for balance, and slowly lowered herself onto his throbbing cock. The sensation was intense, both of them groaning as he filled her completely. She began to move, bouncing expertly, the squelching sounds echoing in the room.
“Fuck, you ride like a slut,” Aegon taunted, his hands gripping her hips hard enough to leave marks. “So wet and desperate for me.”
Her eyes caught the mirror again, watching as she rode him with wild abandon. The sight was incredibly arousing. Aegon’s fingers wrapped around her throat, applying just enough pressure to make her gasp.
“You like that, don’t you?” he taunted, his grip tightening slightly. “You like being fucked like this.”
Y/N’s moans were half-choked, her eyes rolling back as the pressure on her throat intensified the pleasure. “Yes,” she gasped out, her voice strained. “I love it.”
Aegon’s eyes were locked on where their bodies met, watching as her cream formed a white ring at the base of his cock. “Look at that,” he said as he tuts at her. “You’re making such a mess, love.”
Y/N’s body responded to his words, her movements becoming more frantic. She was riding him hard, her nails digging into his backs, leaving marks of her own.
Aegon groaned, his grip tightening as he felt her walls clench around him. “That’s it, love,” he murmured, his voice thick with pleasure. “Just like that.”
“Aegon, I’m so close,” she moaned, her body trembling with the impending climax.
“Come for me, Y/N,” he commanded, his voice full of raw desire. “I want to feel you.”
With a final, desperate bounce, Y/N’s body convulsed, her orgasm ripping through her with such force that she squirted again, much to Aegon’s delight. He watched with a mixture of pride and lust as she trembled above him. His own release followed closely, exploding inside her and painting her insides with his cum.
The room reeked of sex, the intense scent of their passion filling the air. Aegon held her close, their bodies still entwined, his hands moving gently over her back as he rubbed her hair, soothing the aftermath. They stayed like that for a moment, their breaths mingling, gradually slowing down.
Y/N’s pussy was overstimulated, every slight movement sending tremors through her body. She trembled uncontrollably, her muscles twitching with the aftershocks of their intense lovemaking.
Aegon held her close, his voice a soothing whisper in her ear. “You did so well for me, darling,” he murmured, his tone filled with both admiration and tenderness.
He shifted slightly, still inside her, causing her to gasp as another wave of sensation coursed through her. “Fuck, love,” he continued, his breath hot against her ear. “How am I supposed to not crave your cunt after this?”
Y/N could only manage a weak smile, her body still recovering from the overwhelming pleasure. She leaned into his touch, finding comfort in his arms.
Aegon’s fingers continued to trace soothing patterns on her skin, his breath warm against her ear. “You’re amazing,” he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple. “Absolutely fucking amazing.”
They shared a tender kiss, a huge contrast to what had just transpired. Aegon’s lips were soft and gentle, offering a moment of intimacy that grounded them both.
“I’ll be right back,” he whispered, standing up carefully. He retrieved a warm, clean towel and returned to her side, gently cleaning the insides of her thighs. Y/N watched him fondly, her heart warming at the unexpected tenderness.
“What a gentleman,” she teased, her voice light with amusement.
Aegon winked at her. “Don’t tell anyone.”
After cleaning her up, he poured her a glass of cold water. “Drink up,” he said, handing it to her. “You need to stay hydrated.”
Y/N took the glass, sipping gratefully, still watching him with a smile. He then grabbed a spare shirt from a nearby drawer and slipped it over her head, his fingers lingering as he admired how it looked on her. The shirt was oversized, hanging loosely on her frame, but Aegon seemed to like it that way.
“Acting like a doting boyfriend now, are we?” Y/N teased, raising an eyebrow at him.
Aegon smirked, adjusting the shirt on her shoulders. “I knew this shirt would look fantastic on you, and I was right.”
“Oh? Well, in that case, I might as well keep it then.”
Aegon chuckled. “You’ll have to earn it, love.”
She grinned, leaning in to give him a quick peck on the lips. “Consider it a down payment.”
Aegon laughed, pulling her closer. “You drive a hard bargain.”
Y/N laughed along with him, feeling a warmth spread through her that had nothing to do with the afterglow of their encounter. “I’ll take my chances.”
Aegon grinned, leaning in to kiss her again. “You’re trouble, you know that?”
Y/N kissed him deeply, their lips melding with a renewed passion. His hands found their way to her arse, gripping it firmly as he pulled her closer.
But then the door flew open, and Helaena stood in the doorway, her eyes wide with shock. “Oh great, I’m forever traumatized,” she exclaimed, a scandalized gasp escaping her lips.
The evidence of their encounter was plain as day. The whole room reeked of sex, and there were suspicious liquid remains on the floor.
“Really? In my brother’s office?” Helaena berated, her hands on her hips.
Y/N’s face turned crimson, and she tried to hide her face in Aegon’s shoulder, mortified. Aegon, however, was laughing shamelessly.
“Oh, come on, Hel,” Aegon said. “Don’t be so dramatic.”
Helaena’s eyes narrowed as she glared at both of them. “Dramatic? The room smells like a brothel, and I just walked in on my brother groping my best friend!”
“You do have impeccable timing,” Aegon managed to say between laughs.
Y/N peeked out from behind Aegon, still embarrassed. “I… I can explain?”
Helaena rolled her eyes dramatically. “Oh, please don’t. I think the evidence speaks for itself.”
Aegon grinned, pulling Y/N closer. “Come on, Hel. You know you love us.”
Helaena shook her head, unable to suppress a smile despite her mock indignation. “You two are disgusting. Just… clean up after yourselves, will you?”
Y/N nodded vigorously, still trying to hide her face. “We will, promise.”
As Helaena left, muttering about needing eye bleach, Aegon and Y/N burst into laughter. Y/N shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. “I guess I’m keeping this shirt after all.”
“Damn right you are,” Aegon said with a smile. He paused, looking at her thoughtfully. “So, when are you free?”
Y/N blinked, confused. “Free for what?”
Aegon rolled his eyes playfully. “I’m taking you out on a date, woman.”
Y/N laughed, shaking her head in disbelief. “A date? After all this?”
Aegon grinned, leaning in to kiss her forehead. “Course, You’ve already seen the worst of me. Now please let me try to impress you properly.”
Y/N pretended to ponder this, tapping her chin thoughtfully. “Hmm, let me think about it. I mean, you did just make a mess of the place, and you have a habit of getting caught in compromising positions...”
Aegon chuckled, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close. “Oh, come on. You know you want to. Besides, how many people can say they had their first date after walking in on said person mid-blowjob?”
Y/N couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Alright, you’ve got a point there.”
She gave him a mock-serious look. “Okay, 5 PM next Friday, Targaryen. Don’t be late.”
Aegon pumps his fist in celebration. “I’ll be there on the dot, love. You just wait.”
“You know,” she said, looking up at him, “this has to be the strangest way I’ve ever agreed to a date.”
Aegon grinned. “Well, I’m nothing if not memorable.”
Y/N smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her. “That you are.”
She took a deep breath and reluctantly stepped back from him. “I should go find Helaena and do some damage control before she decides to disown both of us.”
Aegon laughed, nodding. “Good idea. She’ll get over it… eventually.”
“Don’t be late,” she said with a playful smirk.
Aegon raised his hands in mock surrender. “I wouldn’t dare.”
With one last smile, Y/N turned and headed for the door.

It Was Enchanting to Meet You
Lord Debling x Fem reader
Tumblr media
Lord Alfred Debling x female Bridgerton reader
Synopsis - You’re the second eldest Bridgerton daughter, being forced by your brother to finally debut. You believed the ordeal would be terrible, that was until you meet the handsome Lord Debling, the handsome stranger soon captivates your mind and heart.
Warnings- fluff, period drama, feelings, very small amount of angst, confessions, great sibling relationships, suggestive themes but no smut. Still 18+ though please.
Word count- 4.7K
Today was the day, the day you were coming out into society, you’d put it off long enough. Being that you were only a year younger than your elder sister Daphne, and a year older than Eloise who were both already out. But your mother hadn’t pushed you and for that you were thankful, your eldest sibling Anthony though was another story. He had all but told you enough was a enough, and even though he would not ever force you to take a husband, you needed to be out in society despite your disagreement with it.
He did not want the great Bridgerton name tarnished, with people starting to talk of the strange girl in the family who did not conform to society’s norm, who did not like social situations, a girl who spent her time fencing, reading and horseback riding. You were a free spirit, one who preferred the wind in her hair, rather than constricted dresses, dancing and polite conversation.
So now just having turned 20 you were being launched into the world around you. This brings you back to today, your mother was flapping making sure both you and Francesca looked perfect, creamy white gowns adorning your bodies, lace perfectly placed, your dress was accentuated with gold floral embroidery and tiny puff sleeves. You adjusted your long white gloves once more before exiting your room, “Ah y/n there you are my love, have you seen your sister I can’t find her anywhere, she is not in her room!” Your mother Violet frets, she’s looking pale and exhausted. “Calm down mother, I’m sure she is about, I can hear music are you sure you haven’t checked it is not her playing?” You ask.
“Oh! No I have not, come, we shall go check together.” She replies, gently grasping your wrist and tugging you down the staircase In search of your sister, you are sure she only holds onto you so she cannot loose you too.
Walking into the drawing room you find it was indeed Francesca playing the piano forte, your mother breathing a big sigh of relief, she is also dressed ready to go. “Well then my children let’s get going shall we?” She asks as she ushers us all out to the carriages, turning to you and Francesca she says “You both look so beautiful!” Voice full of emotion. “Thank you mother” you both say in unison, she nods before you all enter the carriage and head off to the queens palace.
The whole thing went by in a blur, you walked down the aisle, bowed to the queen then exited out to the side, you’d all entered out into a garden party where people were mingling happily. Your brother Colin who had just returned from travels, was boasting to the young ladies, causing them to fawn over him. Penelope Featherington sadly watching from the sidelines, you were very aware of how she felt for your brother, being the same age you had spent many moments together. Although you wouldn’t call her a close friend, it saddened you to see her aways watching him with such hopeful but sad eyes.
You decided she could do with a distraction so you made your way over to her, “Hey Pen, how are you? I haven’t seen you about the house recently?” You ask, she jumps, obviously you’d caught her very much deep in thought. “My goodness y/n you scared me” she gasps hand on her chest, “Sorry Pen, we were both on our own so I thought I’d come talk with you” you explain. Her face softens then “Of course, you can always come talk to me, I know how hard this must all be for you” she replies her face now sympathetic. “Yes, I do so hate public attention, but alas my brother thought it was necessary” you sigh, nodding Penelope gave you a look of understanding, “We must all be pushed out into society sooner or later, I was just 17 when my mother decided I needed to be out. And look over three years later and I’m still just sat here with no suitor prospects, I wish I could find a husband” she groans, “What? Why? You’ve never seemed too interested before?” You ask.
With a sigh she turns to you “In all honesty I need my privacy, and I just cannot stand living with my family any longer, at least your family is supportive and kind, mine can be just awful” she complains. You nod, you understand, her family have always been difficult especially her mother! “Well then Pen I hope you find a kind, loyal man to be your husband this season, you deserve some happiness” you tell her in earnest. “Thank you y/n, you do too, whatever that is for you, you deserve happiness too” she says as she walks off, leaving you once more to your thoughts.
Would you find happiness? What was happiness to you anyways?

That evening you were attending your very first ball, nerves settled deep within your stomach. There would be many people attending Lady Danbury’s ball, and you were hoping to quietly blend into the crowds, not causing any reason to warrant any unwanted attention. Anthony had insisted on you being present, he had also given you a list of people he had chosen for your to converse with.
Your dress though, that you had chosen for yourself, it was a deep maroon, corseted down to your waist, it then flared out into a subtle A line ballgown. It had thick off the shoulders straps, sparkling embroidery and a skirt that swished as you moved. You wanted something that felt more freeing, compared to the tight empire line gowns that were the norm. Giving yourself a last once over you sighed, although you looked like a princess, you felt absolutely ridiculous.
Entering the party was as equally nerve wrecking as bowing to the queen this morning, walking down the steps after your brothers and sisters you felt all eyes shift to you, you held your head hire and floated down with all the grace you could muster, it must have worked because once you’d reached the bottom all eyes were still glued to you. Your mother came rushing to meet you, “You did well, you entered as gracefully as a swan” she gushed, you rolled your eyes at her enthusiasm, “Well mother my plan is to not cause any unwanted attention, I don’t want them thinking I am some wild animal that cannot be tamed” you sassed back. Tutting she guided you through the crowds to meet some new people, what you hadn’t noticed though, were a pair of very entranced blue eyes belonging to the one Lord Alfred Debling watching your entrance.
“Who is she?” Lord Debling asked Lady Danbury, “That would be Miss Y/N Bridgerton, second eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family” Lady Danbury answered. “I see” he replies eyes still watching you intently, Lady Danbury smirks knowingly, “I may also add, she only debuted this morning so from what I gather she is very much on the market, so to speak” she smiled. “Is that so?” He asks eyes still enchanted by you. The pair hadn’t noticed Cressida Cowper Joining them, not until she spoke up causing them to both jump slightly, “I’ve heard she’s a strange girl” she abruptly interrupts, “And where have you heard that Miss Cowper?” Asks Lady Danbury, her voice full of exasperation.
“Well I’ve heard she prefers the outdoors over social gatherings, she rides her horse bareback at some speed I may add, I’ve seen it myself. When I’ve called on Eloise this summer she’s either sprinting through the country on her horse or she has her nose in some weird book” she explains amusedly. “I don’t see how that makes her strange, but rather it makes her unique” Lord Debling affirms, “Well also” Cressida stutters out trying to find something more vexing to say about you, “Ah she also fences, she sword fights with her brothers, isn’t it incredibly odd, incorrect even for a young lady to sword fight?” She points out. “I dare say! Does she really?” He asks Lady Danbury, “Yes I believe she does” Danbury replies, the smug look is soon wiped off Cressida’s face though when he turns back to Lady Danbury, “That is incredibly impressive, what a young lady she is! I will go introduce myself” and with that he leaves in search of you.
He finds you over by the drinks helping yourself to one before retreating to the corner, “Miss Bridgerton? Are you quite alright? You appear to be hiding in the corner” he asks. You bow quickly “Lord Debling, I’m quite well thank you, just not one for large social gathering's” you answer honestly. “Ah, no me either actually, I prefer to be outdoors” he responds. You smile up at him shyly “I do too” you agree, “Riding Percy gives me much more joy than this” you continue, choking on his drink Lord Debling gasps “I beg your pardon you what?”, “Percy, he’s my horse, a Suffolk punch, my brother Anthony bought him for me for my birthday a few years back, I most enjoy riding him through the countryside, where it’s nice and quiet” you explain,
“Oh of course, I heard from Lady Danbury that you enjoy riding, he conveys, cheeks bright red now from his misunderstanding. “Lady Danbury spoke of me? To you?” You ask confused, “Umm yes, I happened to ask after you” he admits, you offer him a smile “I see and what else did she happen to say about me?” You question teasingly causing him to smirk, “Nothing much else, just that this was your first season” he stutters out now feeling very put on the spot, “Oh yes well I put it off as long as I possibly could, but my brother is forcing me to try this year” you confirm, “Is it so very bad?” He asks, teasing smile on his lips, “Well maybe not as bad as I had made it out to be in my head” you admit.
“Well then, would you care to dance?” He offers, hand outstretched towards you. “Yeah ok, why not, in the name of trying new things of course” you smile, “Of course” he repeats, clearly amused by you. He walks you out to the dance floor as everyone lines up, ready for the dance to begin. As the music plays he spins you around the dance floor, your eyes never leaving one another’s, its almost as if there’s static energy between you, your hearts pounding in your chest, you can tell everyone is watching you both, but in that moment all you can see is him.
“Is that your daughter Violet, dancing with Lord Debling?” One of the mothers asks, “Yes” your mother laughs, “I dare say it is” her face is lit up at the way your both staring at each other, thoughts of Daphne and Simon’s first dance entering her mind. This looked very promising, she thought you’d be the hardest to convince to give this whole ordeal a try, but you were entranced by the man before you, and it was Francesca who had made a rather hastily exit home already.
Lady Danbury joins your mother, “He asked about her you know, the second she entered the room” she tells your mother, knowing smirk still plastered on her face, “Did he?” Your mother asks, “Yes, he seemed very much intrigued by her, maybe we’ve made a match already” she implies, “Maybe…….. I will speak to my daughter once we are home” you mother decides. Nodding in agreement Lady Danbury takes her leave.
Once your dance comes to an end you bow and move to walk away, thinking he would have other young ladies to dance with, a soft grip of your hand causes you to turn, coming face to face with Lord Debling once more, “May I call on your tomorrow?” He asks, “Yes you may” you give a curt nod before leaving with your family.
This night had gone much better than expected, you thought to yourself whilst laying in bed, you felt excited to see what else was to come.
________________________________________
The next day you’d woken up early, to get yourself dressed for your sword fighting lesson, hoping you’d have time to freshen up before anyone had any callers, you smile to yourself at the thought of seeing Lord Debling again today. Bounding down the stairs you met your instructor Henry, “Good morning Miss Bridgerton, are you ready?” He asks, “Yes I am” you affirm, “Very good, although I don’t see how you need any more lessons now, I’ve taught you everything I know, and you have mastered it all”, you grin “Why thank you Henry, but I can tell you why I need my lessons” you reply, “And why is that Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “Because I enjoy them” you laugh as you get into position.
Your two eldest brothers had joined you now, you were currently practicing against Benedict, completely loosing track of time. “Why do you encourage this Anthony?” Your mother asks, “Well dear mother I think it’s good that a lady knows how to defend herself, no one will ever mess with our little y/n now will they?” He questions playfully, rolling her eyes she waves him off as she leaves the room.
“Ha! I win again! Really Benedict are you even trying?” You goad, sweaty and exhausted he gives you the are you kidding look, “Yes dear sister unfortunately I am!” He grumbles, Anthony snorts out a laugh “Well I dare say these lessons are paying off, you have quite the talent” he praises you, “Thank you brother” you smile. Just then one of your maids enter the room, “Someone’s here to see you Miss” she announces, realisation hits you! Oh no Lord Debling has arrived and your still in your fencing clothes.
Walking in he smiles at you, you bow nervously before rambling out, “I’m very sorry I lost track of time my lord, please excuse me for a moment while I go change”, “Nonsense don’t worry about it, I’d love to see you in action” he answers, “Really!?” You ask surprised, he nods in response, you look to Anthony motioning for him to come join you, but he puts his hands up in surrender, “Oh no, watching Benedict loose all credibility was quite enough for one day, I will go find my wife, as I promised her a walk this morning.” He replies, “I’ll spar with you” Lord Debling offers, “Oh I couldn’t ask that of you my Lord” you hastily reply, “You’re not asking, I’m offering” he affirms before removing his jacket and placing on Benedict’s fencing armour.
Anthony lets out a laugh, “Perfect” he announces, before turning to Lord Debling “Don’t let her win, she will know. She is incredibly able” he confirms before leaving to find his wife. “Well are you ready then?” Debling asks you, “Yes, quite ready” you smirk back. As the two of you spar the static energy returns from last night, you fall into an effortless rhythm against one another, he fights well, there is technique and power to his moves, but you are just too quick for him, eventually knocking the sword from his hands and pointing yours to his chest in victory,
“I say! You are rather good at this aren’t you” he laughs, “Yeah I think it’s because I enjoy it so much” you agree.
“You Miss Bridgerton are an incredibly rare flower indeed” he says, “Thanks” you reply warm blush adorning your cheeks, “Will you save me a dance at tonight’s party?” He asks. “Yes of course” you reply maybe a little too hastily, “Well then, until tonight” he offers placing a delicate kiss to your knuckles. Before leaving he looks back towards you once more, giving you the most endearing smile.
You were very much looking forward to seeing him again tonight.
________________________________________
Over the next few weeks the two of you became much more acquainted with one another, you danced together at every party, usually more than once, you took chaperoned strolls together in the park and your family had also invited him over a couple of times for dinner.
You’d learnt much about him, his love for animals and wildlife, the fact he didn’t eat meat, all his adventure and conservation ideas, you’d become completely enamoured with this man, It appeared he also was with you too.
Today you were both taking a stroll in the park, the sun was warm and the smell of blossoms filled the spring air. Your maid was walking a few steps behind you, keeping a watchful eye. “Beautiful day is it not?” You ask him cheerfully, enjoying the sunshine on your skin. “Yes it is, but I can see something much more beautiful” he replies watching you carefully, you turn your head to hide your reddening cheeks. “Will you be attending the garden party tomorrow? I hear there will be a new form of transport being showcased” you ask, “Yes I believe I will be attending” he responds while smiling at you, grinning up at him you offer a nod in response.
“Well I bid you farewell Lord Debling, I have promised to help my mother this afternoon, I will see you tomorrow?” You offer, “Yes I shall see you tomorrow, good afternoon Miss Bridgerton” he replies. You spare him one last glance, before you walk off with your maid.
________________________________________
It was the day of the garden party and you were stood looking at the enormous ballon in awe, was that really supposed to be able to carry people through the sky? “Quite spectacular isn’t it?” Lord Deblings voice cut through your thoughts causing you to jump, “My Lord, you gave me a fright!” You gasped, “I am sorry, that was not my intention” he responds “That’s ok, it is spectacular yes, although I do worry how it’s supposed to transport people” you reply.
“Yes quite, but I suppose only time will tell, are you well Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “Yes, thank you my Lord I am very well” you affirm, “Good” he nods.
As the afternoon goes on Penelope, Eloise and Cressida join in your conversation, Cressida going out of her way to try and impress Lord Debling, not even caring how desperate and contrary it makes her appear. Penelope spends the whole time staring at Colin and Eloise is pretty much rolling her eyes at everybody’s antics. Cressida continues to laugh at something he said, almost hanging off his arm, causing a pit of jealousy to stir in your stomach.
You turn your attention once again to the large ballon, which is now rocking very unstably in the wind, creaking and groaning as the ropes loosen. Just as they snap your brothers are rushing over to pull them back, using as much strength as they can muster to pull the thing back into place. All you can do is watch in terror as they lose control and the ship comes hurtling towards you, it all happens so quick, one miniute you’re watching terrified, the next you’re on the floor Lord Deblings body shielding you.
“Are you quite alright?” He asks gazing into your eyes, “Yes all thanks to you”. He carefully traces his fingertips down the side of your jaw, you watch him with wide eyes, wanting nothing more than to lean in and kiss him. Someone loudly clears their throat behind you, you both jump apart, turning to see Cressida and Eloise watching you both.
Lord Debling jumps up before offering you a hand up too, “What luck you were there to save my sister, thank you my Lord” Eloise states, “Of course, it was nothing” he replies before walking off.
“What was that y/n?” Eloise gasps, “I hardly know” you reply, completely shocked yourself.
________________________________________
That very evening you arrived at the ball still very much in shock, more so by Lord Deblings behaviour than nearly being squashed by the heavy ballon. Your mother currently had you making small talk with every eligible Lord in the room, “Mother is this really necessary?” You grumbled as you made your way over to yet another man, “Yes my darling daughter it is, until Lord Debling actually proposes you must keep your options open” she insists, “But Anthony said I do not have to marry this season, only that I must be out in society” you ask confused.
“Yes I know my sweet girl, but every year you’re on the market the less desirable you become, now make haste” she commands, you roll your eyes at her as she drags you through the crowd, “Lady Bridgerton, Miss Bridgerton, how nice to see you both” Lord Cambell greets, “Lord Cambell, lovely to see you again” you reply with a very forced smile. “Would you have any space left on your card to include a dance with me?” He asks, you stutter before your mother replies on your behalf, “My daughter would be delighted”, you resentfully offer your wrist and card for him to write his name on, before bowing and leaving to find some corner to hide in.
After no empty corner is found you retreat to the gardens in hope of some peace, leaning against the cold stone of the house you close your eyes, taking a deep breath. “Miss Bridgerton you should not be out here alone” Lord Deblings voice causes you to jump, “My goodness my Lord! Must you always startle me so.” You gasp, “Sorry I never intend too” he replies in earnest, “But you really shouldn’t be out here alone” he repeats as he steps closer, “Yes I know, but I need a minute to breathe, it’s awfully stuffy in there, and my mother is being a nuisance….” You trail off, voice stuttering as he steps closer once more, “By nuisance you mean by parading you around the room, like a prized animal?” He smirks, “Yes” you stammer, feeling more breathless than before if that was at all possible.
He carefully moves a piece of hair from your face, “Do you not wish for the attention of the Lords here tonight Miss Bridgerton?” He asks, “No, not from those ones anyways” you whisper, then in a flash his mouth meets yours, it’s passionate and gentle, it’s fire but also calm. Your fingers grasp his jacket as you pull him in closer, moulding your body to his own, his fingers move from your face to your neck, tilting your face to give him better access. His other hand grasps your thigh as he pulls it over his hip, grounding down into you causing a low whimper from your lips, moving from your mouth he kisses down your neck, nipping at your sweet spot, your hands slide into his hair as you grind into his hips once more.
Your movement causes him to gasp before quickly pulling himself away from you, leaving you a breathless mess. “I shouldn’t have done that” he worries, “My Lord?” You ask confused and worried, “I shouldn’t have put you in that position I am so very sorry” he repeats and your heart sinks, was he going to reject you now? Were you about to loose all credibility? Sensing your despair he quickly comforts you, “What I mean to say is that shouldn’t have happened before I asked for your hand, I do not wish to dishonour you, if you will have me and your brother agrees to it, I would very much like to make you my wife” he confirms, “Really?” You ask.
“Yes really, I am quite enamoured with you my dearest y/n, I came here to the Ton to seek out a wife, I thought I could find a match of convenience, one where I could travel and my wife would happily stay at home managing my estate. I did not think love was in the cards for me, I believed that my work would take up too much space in my heart for that, but then I met you, and my goodness did you change everything” he explains.
“Is this a confession of love my Lord?” You ask still very much breathless.
“It is yes, I didn’t come here to seek it which makes this as much a surprise to me as it is to yourself” he replies.
“I love you too” you admit, which causes his handsome face to light up, “I too did not believe this would happen, when my brother asked me to debut this season, I admit I hated the very idea, but I’m so very glad I did as it lead me to you” You confess.
“Well then my love, I believe I have a question to ask your brother” he replies, his hand seeking to find your own, grasping his with yours you reply “I suppose you do”. He gives you one last kiss on your cheek before heading inside to seek out your brother. You are still stood against the house, breaths still racing as you trace your lips with your fingertips, the tingling of his kisses still present.
Upon entering your home that evening Anthony stops you “Y/N may I speak with you a moment?” He asks, “Yea of course brother what is it?”
“Lord Debling has asked for my permission to propose to you, he says he has the deepest of feelings for you and he wishes you to be his wife, I know him to be a very kind man, one who obviously wouldn’t ever hurt an animal or a woman, he has a great estate and great prospects, so if it’s what you want I will agree to it at once, but I told him I had to talk with my sister first” he explains.
You smile knowing how deeply your family cares for each other, this is something you will never take for granted. “Truth is brother, I love him very much, I didn’t think it were possible to find someone I could fall for so deeply, but here we are” you reply.
“Very well then I shall give him my permission” Anthony affirms. You walk over and give him a chaste kiss to the cheek, “Thank you brother” you respond, he nods giving your shoulder an affectionate squeeze before wandering off.
You were going to be married! Not only that to a man you love, you felt such happiness in that moment your chest could burst.
________________________________________
The next morning whilst reading your maid walked in announcing Lord Debling was here to see you, you nod at her to let him in.
“Hello my love, are you well this morning?” He asks as he enters the room.
“I am quite well my Lord thank you” you smile.
“Please call me Alfred, such formalities feel no longer necessary”
“Very well Alfred, but then you must call me y/n so we are on equal terms” you reply.
He laughs, “Of course, my dearest y/n, so I’m guessing it’s no secret to as why I am here?” He asks.
“Well I have an idea, but I will need you to clarify” you respond with wit.
“Very well Miss y/n Bridgerton” he begins before getting down on one knee, “You have bewitched my heart, and I’m asking if you will do me the extraordinary honour of becoming my wife?”
Walking towards him you kneel down in front of him, reaching out and tracing his stubbled cheek, “Yes Alfred, I will marry you” you gush before moving in and placing your lips against his, in a sweet soft kiss.
Just then all your family enter the room offering congratulations, you thank them all but your eyes never leave his, as you think to yourself yes you believe this will be a very happy marriage indeed.

Benedict Bridgerton x Female Reader
Benedict bumps into you, quite literally, at a ball while trying to escape his mother's attempts to find him a partner. You decide to humour him with a dance, not realising just how entwined you would become with him. It seems the universe will find every excuse to push you and Benedict together, no matter how much you fight it.

Season one
Chapter Eight - Sparkling diamond
♡♡♡
Benedict joined his sister, Eloise, out in the garden again long after the other had gone to bed. She was smoking on the swing like last time.
As Benedict takes a seat on the opposite swing, she passes him the cigarette. He takes it.
"I found bits of your sketchbook in the fireplace," Eloise says.
"Are you spying on me now?"
"You'd actually have to be interesting for me to bother spying on you," she chuckles.
"The drawings in that sketchbook were abominable," he says firmly. "I could not stand to look at them."
"I believe that is why they call it a sketchbook." Eloise looks at them. "I write in my diary, which is not the same as wiring in my novel."
Benedict chuckles.
"It must be very difficult to want something and not be able to get it."
"Eloise..."
"If you enjoy drawing but need practise, then practise," she goes on. "Hire a drawing master. Find a young lady to act impressed."
You cross his mind. However, he doesn't want you to act impressed. He wants you to be impressed by his work. Genuinely so.
"If you desire the sun and the moon, all you have to do is go out and shoot at the sky. Some of us cannot.
"Look no further than Lady Whistledown. She possesses a huge talent for writing, and yet she must hide away and publish under a false name."
"Yes, because if anyone knew who Whistledown truly was, she'd be strung up for what she said," Benedict states.
"That is not my point. Whistledown is a woman, therefore she has nothing, and still she writes. You're a man, therefore you have everything. You are able to do whatever you want. So do it. Be bold."
Eloise envies her brothers.
"At least that way I can live vicariously through you." She rises to leave.
"Eloise... are you Lady Whistledown?" Benedict asks.
Eloise laughs.
"You're an accomplished writer, always scribbling in that diary of yours. You certainly know everyone else's business. You have more opinions than anyone else I know in London. You would have my full support and admiration either way, sister."
Elosie laughs again.
"So... is it you?"
"No." She looks at him. "Though if it were... do you honestly think that I'd admit it?"
Elosie heads back inside.
Benedict is left with his thoughts.
♡♡♡
The ballroom was elegantly designed. Soft shades to light up the room. You find yourself without a dance partner, however.
Prince Friedrich was in the middle of a dance with Cressida Cowper.
The duke was standing sternly off to the side with Lady Danbury. They appeared to be talking quietly, though judging by the stern faces, it was not a pleasant conversation.
You find yourself gently, and you admire the room. Benedict wasn't here. You couldn't see him at all.
That is not to say you had gone unnoticed. You glance to your left and find a perfectly suitable gentleman looking your way. You smile softly and turn your gaze away.
Tactics of flirtation were not completely out of your power.
Before anyone could make a move, however, the doors at the top of the stairs opened. It wasn't so much the doors that caught everyones attention, more like who had come through them.
You swear you all breath left you when your eyes landed on Daphne coming down the stairs with her mother. She was wearing the most beautiful silver gown you had ever seen, and her hair was beautifully done. She looked like, well, a princess.
In her hand was a feather fan. It went beautifully with her attire. She began to descend the stairs.
All eyes were on her.
Prince Friedrich was at the bottom of the stairs. Not once did he look away. You watch with interest as Daphne gets closer, closer, and closer to him.
The prince leaves Cressida's side to meet Daphne at the bottom stair.
The duke does not move.
Daphne stops.
"Miss Bridgerton, I simply musylt have your first dance." He speaks to her softly.
"It would be an honour, your highness." She curtsies.
A moment passes between them, and then you watch as Daphne drops her fan. Just like that, the prince kneels down to pick it up.
The prince kneeled.
You don't even realise the soft gasp you let out as you watch.
Prince Friedrich offers her the fan, and she takes it. She smiles at him and then gives the fun to her mother as she takes the prince hand.
They dance.
The duke leaves. Though he turns back to look at Daphne before he goes.
In the words of Lady Whistledown, why settle for a duke when one can have a prince?
♡♡♡
The invitation to attend the boxing match came from Anthony Bridgerton. You were rather pleasantly surprised by his invitation.
Anthony apparently needed some help to keep his mother quiet about finding a wife for himself.
You laughed.
You follow the siblings until they reach the prince. He approaches Daphne, but greets you, also. You curtsy.
Anthony then offers you his arm. "Shall we?"
You chuckle and take it, allowing him to lead you over to some seats. As you settle, you turn to the eldest Bridgerton.
"Where are you brothers?" You ask.
"My brothers? Currently talking to one of the fighters." He gestures to the edge of the ring where you spot Colin and Benedict.
You don't even notice you're smiling.
"You and my brother seem to have grown rather close." Anthony points out, looking at you.
"I can assure you there is nothing untoward. Your brother is my friend, as are you all now." You smile at him.
Anthony chuckles.
"Benedict seems to have a lot on his mind at the moment. I am not one to get in the way of someone's business."
"Smart woman," Anthony chuckles.
You nudge his arm lightly and wait for the fight to begin.
As the match is announced to begin, the other brothers find their way to you and Anthony. Benedict looks rather surprised to see you. "I had no idea you were attending."
"Your brother invited me to keep your mother off his back. It seems that is all I'm good for." You chuckle.
"No true, but appreciated none the less," Benedict comments.
You smile, and he takes the empty seat beside you. It does not go unnoticed that you keep your arm looped with Anthony's. He doesn't comment on it.
The fight is intense. You gasp with every hard punch. The men around you cheer on their victor.
You had never witnessed such a match before, and you would be lying if you said you were not somewhat into it.
As the crowd stands, you stand with them and cheer along with the Bridgerton brothers. William Mondrich was their friend, and he was putting up hell of a good fight.
Benedict finds it amusing how excited you seem to be.
Mondrich wins!
You cheer along with the brothers. You laugh at the excitement. It was a thrilling match, indeed.
Anthony helps you down from your seat and speaks close to your ear so you can hear him. "We're off to collect our winnings. I shall see to it you get home right after."
You nod and thank him. As he leaves to fetch his earrings, Benedict turns to you.
"Did you enjoy that?"
You chuckle. "I did. Surprisingly."
"I must say, I did not expect to see you in attendance."
"I am full of surprises."
Benedict looks at you quietly for a moment. "Yes. You are."
You smile and look away. However, his gaze lingers on you for a bit.
Later, the Bridgertons see to it that you get home safely before they head off to the club. A place for the gentlemen only.
Anthony helps you up into the carriage and thanks you for humouring him today. Yo return the gesture and wave as the carriage leaves.
Colin has to nudge Benedict out of his thoughts.

Betrothed, Wed - Anthony Bridgerton
Word count: 2914
Summary: Being wed to one another is more than just an 'I do' is it not?
Tumblr media
The Bridgerton household was bustling with activity as the family gathered around the breakfast table.
The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and warm croissants filled the air, and the sound of cheerful chatter could be heard echoing through the corridors.
It was a regular morning in the Bridgerton household, but little did they know, this breakfast would be far from ordinary.
As the family settled into their seats, Violet Bridgerton, the matriarch of the family, spoke up.
"My dear children, I do hope there will be another grandchild soon," she said with a twinkle in her eye.
This was a topic that was often brought up at the breakfast table, as Violet was keen on expanding their already large family.
Eloise Bridgerton, the second eldest daughter, was sipping on her tea when she heard her mother's words.
She was taken aback and her eyes widened in surprise.
She had not expected this topic to come up at the breakfast table, especially not so early in the morning.
As she tried to swallow her tea, she choked on it and coughed uncontrollably.
Her siblings and mother quickly rushed to her side, patting her on the back and offering her water.
Once she had regained her composure, Eloise glared at her mother and exclaimed
"Mother, must you always bring up the topic of marriage and children at breakfast?"
Violet chuckled at her daughter's reaction and replied. "Eloise, I am only stating the truth. Y/n is to be wed to Anthony today and it would be a pleasant surprise."
This was a common conversation in the Bridgerton household, as Violet was known for her love of children and her desire to have a large family.
She had raised her eight children almost single-handedly after her husband's untimely death, and she cherished every moment of it.
Her children, on the other hand, had mixed feelings about the topic.
Eloise and her younger sister, Francesca, were not as keen on the idea of marriage and children just yet.
Eloise had always been a headstrong and independent woman, and the thought of settling down and starting a family did not appeal to her.
She had always dreamt of making a name for herself and pursuing her passion for writing.
Francesca, on the other hand, was content with her life as it was and had no desire to conform to societal expectations.
Violet, however, was determined to see all her children settled and happy, and she was not one to give up easily.
She continued to bring up the topic of marriage and children at every opportunity, much to the dismay of her children.
As they continued with their breakfast, the conversation shifted to lighter topics.
But, the buzzing chatter came to a halt when the Bridgerton sister, Eloise, exclaimed.
“Have you all heard about the dress that Madame Delacroix has designed for y/n? It’s said to be one of her most exquisite works yet!”
The mention of the well-known designer, Madame Delacroix, immediately caught everyone’s attention, especially Daphne and Violet Bridgerton, who couldn’t hide their curiosity.
You were a close family friend and recently engaged to Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest Bridgerton brother.
The news of your betrothal had created quite a stir in London’s high society circles.
And now, there was talk of a special dress designed just for you by Madame Delacroix herself.
Eloise, who had heard about the dress from Lady Danbury, eagerly filled in her family with the details.
“Apparently, Madame Delacroix has designed the dress keeping in mind y/n's vibrant and lively personality. It’s going to be fearless and assertive, just like her,' she explained.
The mention of an unconventional dress for a bride-to-be piqued Daphne’s interest, who had made a name for herself.
“Well, this sounds like a dress worth seeing. I might even have some pointers for my dear sister-in-law,” she said with a mischievous twinkle in her eye.
Violet, the matriarch of the Bridgerton family, couldn’t help but smile at the prospect of seeing you in a dress that truly represented you.
“I have always admired Madame Delacroix’s work, and I am sure this dress will be no exception. It will be a perfect reflection of y/n's character,” she remarked.
Daphne leaned in, her voice low and conspiratorial.
"You know, Mother, I think it's time we assisted y/n to get ready for her big day. Eloise and I can take care of making sure the carriage arrives on time."
Violet nodded in agreement, her eyes twinkling with delight.
"That's a splendid idea, Daphne. Why don't you and Eloise ask Maid Rose for that matter while I help y/n with her wedding dress?"
You looked up at Violet, your heart swelling with gratitude.
You always admired the older woman's grace and beauty, and the thought of having her help you get ready for your wedding was more than you could have asked for.
As you stood, Violet placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
"You look stunning, dear. Now, let's get you into your dress and make sure you're ready to walk down the aisle in class."
Together, you made your way upstairs to the dressing room, the other women of the Bridgerton household trailing behind you.
Eloise chuckled, "I can't wait to see you in your dress, y/n!"
You blushed, feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. You turned to Violet, who was already helping you unbutton your gown.
"Thank you," you whispered. "For everything."
Violet smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with understanding. "It's my pleasure, dearest. Today is all about family, after all."
As they helped you into your wedding dress, the other women clustered around, offering their assistance and well wishes.
Daphne secured the last of the buttons, while Eloise fussed with the veil until it was just so.
You looked like a goddess, ready to embark on your happily ever after.
Finally, they all stepped back to admire their handiwork. There was a moment of quiet as if everyone was taking in the significance of the moment.
And then, Eloise, never one to be at a loss for words, squealed.
"You look absolutely radiant, y/n!"
The others chimed in, nodding in agreement, their eyes shining with tears of happiness.
You felt a lump form in your throat as you turned to Violet.
"Thank you," you whispered. "For all of this."
Violet reached out, taking your hand in hers. "Oh, dear," she said with a wink, "You're the one who's to be wed today."
And then, there was a knock at the door.
Violet Bridgerton, looked up from where she was standing in the room, her attention momentarily diverted from your dress.
"Yes?" she called, her voice calm and composed.
There was a pause, and then the voice of Maid Rose floated up from the hallway.
"My lady, the carriage is ready to take you to the chapel."
Violet smiled, nodding her approval.
"Thank you, Rose. Please notify the driver that we will be on our way shortly." She turned back to her daughters and you.
"Everyone, it's time. Let's make our way downstairs and get to the chapel."
Daphne, a blush prominent on her cheeks, stepped forward and took your hand.
"Come, y/n. We'll carry your train together."
As you all descended the grand staircase, the soft swishing of silk and the click-clack of heels echoed through the manor.
Eloise, ever the curious one, darted ahead to peek out a window, marveling at the carriage outside.
When you reached the bottom of the staircase, Violet paused for a moment, taking in the sight of you, she felt a pang of pride and sadness all at once.
Knowing that this day would mark a new chapter not only for you and Anthony but for her family as well.
You squared your shoulders and led you all out the door, towards the awaiting carriage.
The sun was shining brightly overhead, casting a warm glow over the manor grounds as you walked towards the carriage.
As you neared the carriage, the coachman opened the door and bowed gracefully. "Good morning, ladies. Shall we be on our way?"
Daphne, still holding your hand, stepped up into the carriage and took a seat beside you.
She glanced back at her mother and Eloise, a sparkle of anticipation in her eyes.
"Thank you," she said, reaching out to help Eloise and Violet into the carriage as well.
As you all settled in, the coachman shut the door and climbed up onto his perch, taking the reins in hand.
With a snap of his whip, the horses sprang into action, carrying you and the three Bridgertons towards the chapel.
The air inside the carriage was filled with the sweet scent of flowers and the rustle of your dress as you shifted her position.
Finally, you rounded a corner and spotted the familiar spire of the chapel poking above the treetops.
As the carriage pulled up in front of the chapel, Violet stepped out first, her dress swirling about her as she supported Daphne and Eloise's descent.
She then turned to face you, taking your hands in her own.
"My dear, you look absolutely stunning. Daphne has done an excellent job with your hair."
You smiled shyly. "Thank you, Violet. I'm just glad that everything is finally here. I can't believe it's actually happening."
You glanced over at Daphne, whose eyes glowing with happiness. "I'm so glad you're going to be my sister."
Your heart ached at the thought of your late father not being there to fulfill this honor.
You had always imagined him proudly by your side during this momentous occasion.
With a heavy heart, you thought of your options.
You didn't have many close male relatives, and you weren't particularly close to your mother either.
As you deliberated over your dilemma, your eyes wandered to the elegant figure of Violet Bridgerton.
The family's matriarch, who had always been like a mother figure to you.
Summoning your courage, you approached Violet in front of the steps from the chapel.
"Violet, may I speak with you?" you asked, your voice filled with trepidation.
Violet turned towards you, her eyes filled with warmth.
"Of course, my love," she replied. "What troubles you?"
You hesitated before speaking, your voice quivering with emotion.
"I… I don't have anyone to walk me down the aisle," you confessed. "Would you consider doing it?"
Violet's eyes widened, her face a testament to the surprise.
"Y/n, I would be honored," she said, her voice filled with sincerity. "Your father was a dear friend of mine, and I would be overjoyed to stand in his place."
Relief swept over you, and tears welled in your eyes. "Thank you, Violet. You have no idea how much this means to me."
When the time came, you and Violet entered the chapel side by side. The guests rose, their awe evident in their expressions.
Your eyes locked on Anthony, who stood at the altar, an enchanting smile gracing his handsome face.
As you and Violet glided down the aisle together, the sunlight filtered through the stained-glass windows, casting a kaleidoscope of colors on the floor.
The guests turned their heads, captivated by the sight of the bride and her mother-in-law.
Whispers of admiration echoed through the chapel as you and Violet's steps synchronized with one another.
You both moved with grace and poise, your bond visible to all.
It was a moment of pure friendship and love, transcending traditional roles and expectations.
When you reached the altar, Violet placed your hand in Anthony's, closing your hands together as a symbol of unity.
The chapel fell silent, and time seemed to stand still amidst the romance and pure joy in the air.
Anthony stood tall at the altar, his heart racing in his chest, his midnight-blue suit a stark contrast against the gleaming white surroundings.
Handsome and dignified, he anxiously kept his gaze fixed on you, his bride.
His palms dampened with anticipation, his mind swirling with a mixture of nerves and awe.
Gasps of admiration echoed through the hallowed space, and even the rustle of dresses and suits seemed to quiet in reverence to her ethereal beauty.
Father Timothy, a wise and gentle elderly priest, smiled warmly, his eyes twinkling with mirth and faith as he welcomed you and initiated the ceremony.
The atmosphere was filled with a mixture of reverence and excitement as you both exchanged vows, your heartfelt words carrying through the sacred space.
The words, "for better or for worse," hung in the air, a promise that resonated with the sincerity and depth of your love.
Tears gathered in the corners of your eyes as you spoke your vows, your voice filled with raw emotion.
Anthony's voice shook with emotion as well, his eyes locked onto yours, your love a definite force binding you together.
The sunlight, streaming through the windows, seemed to bathe you both in a celestial glow as if bestowing blessings upon your blessed union.
Father Timothy's voice rose and fell, his words weaving a tapestry of guidance and hope for your future.
He spoke of strength, warmth, and companionship, reminding you of the loyalty and support you both had vowed to offer each other.
The Bridgertons looked on with unwavering support and love, tears glistening in their eyes, knowing that this day marked far more than the union of you two.
It signified the merging of two families and the creation of a new beginning.
As the ceremony reached its crescendo, you and Anthony exchanged rings, solemnizing your commitment to one another.
The diamond on your finger sparkled, catching the light like stars in a midnight sky.
While Anthony's gold wedding band gleamed, symbolizing the eternal circle of your love.
With each heartfelt word and sacred act, the chapel seemed to hum with the intensity of emotions emanating from every person present.
The love felt within those walls was palpable - a love that transcended time, a love that would forever be etched in the hearts of everyone who witnessed it.
Finally, Father Timothy proclaimed, "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."
As the swelling music filled the air, signaling the end of the ceremony, you and Anthony joyfully sealed your vows with a passionate kiss.
Cheers erupted from the congregation, filling the chapel with exuberance and celebration, their applause reverberating against the high ceilings and intricately carved arches.
It was a moment of pure bliss, two souls basking in the enchantment of newfound union.
The chapel doors swung open with a gentle creak, and all eyes turned to gaze upon you as a newly married couple.
Y/n and Anthony Bridgerton.
Your heart fluttered with excitement as you clung to Anthony's arm.
Feeling the weight of your future and the promise of a lifetime together.
You had dreamt of this day for as long as you could remember, and now it had finally come true.
The sun filtered through the stained glass windows, casting a warm glow on the white walls of the chapel.
Soft music played in the background as you and Anthony made your way down the aisle, your steps light and graceful.
As you reached the doors, you paused for a moment, taking in the sight before you.
The courtyard was bathed in sunlight, a sea of vibrant colors and delicate scents.
The guests held flower petals in their hands, ready to shower you with love and good wishes.
You could hardly contain your excitement as you and Anthony stepped outside.
The air was fragrant with the sweet smell of blossoms, and the sound of laughter and clapping filled the courtyard.
As the guests threw flower petals towards you, you were both enveloped in a cascade of petals, a beautiful shower of nature's confetti.
You looked up, your eyes sparkling with joy.
The sky seemed bluer than ever, a perfect backdrop to your special moment.
You could feel the weight of tradition and happiness settle upon your shoulders, lifting your spirit into the realm of pure bliss.
This was the start of your journey, a new chapter in your love story.
Together you made your way through the sea of flowers, your steps like a waltz, graceful, harmonious, and full of promise.
The petals clung to your clothes, creating a tapestry of colors that seemed to dance with your every move.
Each step you took felt solid, like building blocks for your future together.
As you reach the center of the courtyard, you let your fingers trail along the stone fountain, cool and inviting.
The water shimmered under the sunlight, mirroring the happiness in your eyes. You turned to Anthony, your heart overflowing with love.
"Can you believe it?" you whispered, your voice filled with awe. "We're married. This is our forever."
Anthony smiled, his eyes locked with yours.
"Yes, my love," he said softly.
"This is just the beginning. And I vow to you, every day will be filled with the same satisfaction and devotion as today."
Your heart swelled at his words, and you knew at that moment that your happiness was boundless.
You glanced around at your guests, your faces glowing with affection and admiration.
It was then that you realized your love story was not just yours alone.
It was a tale shared with your closest friends and family.

When Friedrich and [Name] came across each other, it had to have been unexpected. During Lady Trowbridge’s ball, he had been looking for Daphne ever since she excused herself from him, yet, he had met her.
[Name] was alarmed that the prince had found her outside, standing on the stone porch, taking in the serene beauty of the gardens stretched out before her. Once they locked eyes, from that moment on, Friedrich knew she had him wrapped around his finger.
Telling Daphne had to be the scariest, [Name] was concerned about how her sister would react when she brought it up, but Daphne quickly shut her down and celebrated her sister finding a possible suitor.
Expect the princess treatment because, in his eyes, she will be his future princess.
He would send her loads of large bouquets of her favourite flowers, filling up their drawing room with adornment of fresh posies. Whenever they see each other, Friedrich gifts her necklaces, bracelets, and hopefully a ring in the near future.
Hyacinth was beyond over the moon when she found out her older sister was being courted by a prince! She wanted to know everything that happened.
During balls, when ladies attempt to get his attention, Friedrich’s eyes would only look for [Name], as would she.
[Name] had to look flawless at all times, the ton was keeping an eye on her every move, waiting for her to make a mistake. Jealous and curious eyes follow [Name], everywhere, especially Cressida Cowper, who had feigned swoon in front of him.
“He lost Daphne to the Duke, that is why he’s pursuing her sister instead,”
Friedrich would take [Name] to the Kew Palace to either promenade around the gardens or play Pall Mall
Encountering the Queen was the most anxiety-ridden situation [Name] had to endure. It was true that Queen Charlotte did not like [Name] at first, she was not her diamond of the season! Yet, she knew how persistent her nephew was, so she took what she could get.
Regardless if Friedrich was a prince or not, Anthony, Benedict and Colin were overprotective of their little sister, so when Friedrich dropped by, he had to face their so-called ‘intimidating look’.
Violet told Gregory and Hyacinth to be on their best behaviour that day or else they won’t get any frozen dessert, but for extra measures, she told Anthony to not scare off Friedrich.
After courting for a month, Friedrich thought it would be best to call you his princess once and for all.

you and i (pt. i)
Tumblr media
Simon Basset x bridgerton!reader
summary: as Daphne's twin, you were always second to her. but then you meet someone who is only yours, completely devoted to you. nothing will come between the two of you, it is just you and him || word count: 1260 || masterlist
Tumblr media
Your twin sister Daphne was the diamond of the season, the belle of every ball and the woman that every suitor desired. You were the second born twin, the second option. Your sister had the pick of suitors so you had free reign of your sister's rejects.
Daphne practically drags you across the ballroom, attempting to avoid the bumbling Nigel Berbrooke once again. He was a horrible man, set on marrying a Bridgerton, either you or your sister. She glances back at you and behind you, accidently bumping into a man weaving the crowd the same way you were.
They traded apologies and you were perfectly fine to continue walking back to your brother but Daphne stayed still, glancing behind her at Lord Berbrooke who continued to follow the pair of you.
"Tell me your name."
"Am I honestly meant to believe you do not know my name?" The man asked, seeming annoyed at Daphne's insistence.
She glanced behind her once again, Berbrooke growing closer. Her eyes met your which were begging her to move along and find Anthony. She ignored you, laughing at an imaginary joke the man had told.
"If you required an introduction, madams, I do believe accosting me to be the least civilised of ways."
"Accosting you?" Daphne was surprised at the mans annoyance but you pulled her slightly backwards.
"I apologise for my sister." You hurriedly said. "We were simply trying to find our brother."
Speak of the devil and he may come, Anthony appeared behind you, calling to the man in front of you.
"Basset. Basset!"
The man's mood immediately shifted. "Bridgerton!"
"I heard news of your father. Deuce take it, you are no longer Basset. Hastings! The Duke of Hastings, now known for evermore." Anthony teased.
Daphne stepped into the conversation, once again dragging you behind her. "The Duke of Hastings is it?"
The Duke turned to face her, but met eyes with you instead as you lifted your head from the floor. His expression seemed to soften for a moment before Anthony spoke again.
"Right, Hastings, these are my sisters."
"Your sisters?" He seemed surprised but brushed it off.
The Duke's eyes kept flicking back to yours as Anthony spoke further. You didn't hear any of it, taken by the Duke's imposing presence. As you walked away, you glanced back to find the Duke staring directly at you. For once, it was you and not your sister that was being looked at. It felt nice, a warmth settled in your chest that could not be shaken off no matter the storm.
And boy does that storm arrive at the very next ball when your sister walks through the crowd, Duke on her arm. They begin to dance and you stand there speechless. Daphne hadn't expressed an inkling of interest in this man and now she was dancing with him, staring lovingly into his eyes as he returned the gesture. What was going on? The rest of the evening passes quickly, a suitor or two asking you for a spin around the floor but none caught your attention. You don't truly process what happened until you're home and preparing for bed.
"Are you courting the Duke?" You burst through the doors to your sister's bedroom.
Daphne seems startled by your suddenness. "It would appear so..."
An unfamiliar feeling stirs in your chest. "Anthony says he does not wish to marry." Daphne hums in response, taking pins out of her hair. "Why do you court him then?"
She shrugs. "He intrigues me. Perhaps he can be changed."
"You haven't seemed interested in him before."
Daphne turns to you, a worried and slightly confused look in her eyes. "Is there something you wish to tell me sister?"
"I-" You aren't sure what to say, you aren't even sure what Daphne is asking. "No! I'm just worried for you. There is nothing I need to tell you."
"Alright... Good night sister."
"...Goodnight."
The season drags on, much to your disappointment. Daphne continues to court the Duke, attracting more suitors than ever. The news of a Prince reaches town and Daphne seems weirdly excited about the prospect of meeting this Prince. The more you thought, the more confusing it became. Your sister and the Duke were courting but she showed no deeper interest in him, nothing more than the surface level conversational skills we were taught to secure a suitor.
Your eyes catch the Duke's at nearly every ball he attends and when your sister comes to stand beside you, The Duke always stands between you. You cannot make any assumptions based on foolish hoping but your heart hopes and it hopes dearly.
Nevertheless, your sister has captured the attention of a Prussian prince, Fredrich. He's devoted to her and she is besotted with him, Duke be damned. They dance as many times as possible at balls, talking and laughing together at every chance they get. The Duke is neglected, attending fewer balls and remaining at the edges of rooms when he does.
It's at one of these balls that he did attend where your watching Daphne dance with the Prince. Simon emerges through the crowd to stand beside you. Your mother is on the other side of the room with Lady Danbury, your brothers nowhere to be seen.
"Miss Bridgerton-" He seems to second guess himself halfway through the sentence. "May I have this dance?"
You can't help the stunned expression that takes over your face. "M-Me? You wish to dance with me?"
He smiles warmly and your soul silently celebrates. "Yes, if you do not mind?"
The smile that covers your face could rival the sun with it's joy. "Please."
Couples filter on and off the dancefloor and the Duke takes your hand, guiding you to the centre. He takes a step towards you until you feel his breath on your cheek. He spins you once, pulling away as he seems to realise where he is. Your breath hitches as his bare hand brushes your gloved one. Then, all too quickly, the dance is over and you leave Simon and the dancefloor, rushing outside for some fresh air.
It feels as though you can barely breath, despite seeing your breath mist in the cold night air.
"Miss Bridgerton!"
Simon is behind you, having come outside to check you were alright. His presence warms you but you shake away the feeling. It's wrong to love your sister's suitor.
"Don't come closer." Simon nods, even taking a step away. "We are not doing this. You are an infamous rake." Simon goes to interject but you continue to speak. "And least of all, you are courting my sister."
Simon sharply inhales. "I am not courting your sister."
"What?" The exclamation leaves your lips before your brain catches up, spinning to face him. "What do you mean you are not courting Daphne? You dance together, you sent her and Mama flowers, you are courting!"
"I was simply helping her find better suitors whilst making myself appear unavailable. It was a ruse, nothing more."
"What of my sister?"
"I do not love your sister." Simon states. "I love you. Besides, your sister is besotted with a prince, our ruse has succeeded and therefore ended. Why would she marry a lowly Duke when she could have a prince?"
Your voice drops to a whisper. "What does this mean... for us?"
Simon smiles. "I'm here if you'll have me. Please-"
You smile shyly at him as you speak your dreams into existence, "My Duke?"
Simon's heart soars. "Your Duke." He quietly agrees.

Also, Happy Valentine’s day!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes you loved your dear friend Daphne and other times you didn't, right now for example, you don't.
Honestly you don’t know how this got brought up (again) but you’d wish she would stop; it’s not going to happen even if she wants you to officially join her family.
You knew her being the first to marry out of the two of you was going to lead to more of her shenanigans, but this was too much for you.
You sigh, setting your cup down to look her in the eyes, “I have no plans on being in this season.”
Her shoulder sagged, “I understand that but-”
“But, nothing. Daphne, I am more than content with my being staying very much untied to a man. If I happen to meet someone worth it, you’ll know.”
-
Anthony glances over in your direction and his mind goes elsewhere.
You’re his sister’s best friend who also became Benedict’s best friend soon after you met the rest of his family.
He isn’t particularly upset at the fact that you’ve managed to befriend his siblings (slightly better than he could) but, there’s something that keeps bringing a certain idea to the front of his mind.
“Are you going to take your turn or continue staring?” Benedict asks.
The eldest shrugs off his brother’s comment.
Anthony uses the dreaded “death mallet” and once again, manages to pass the others.
-
Daphne heads towards her siblings before they can scream and shout at her for sitting down instead of taking her turn.
You sigh, shoulders sagging because you know she means no harm; you know that but, you can’t force yourself to love and care for someone you don’t have feelings for.
You’d never admit it (out loud or to her) but there are nights where you do wonder how it would be if you did get married to someone you loved.
The concerning part is how her brother sneaks into your mind; not your closest friend, Benedict, or the third oldest, Colin, and of course not, Gregory.
No, Anthony is the one to invade your mind and corrupt your dreams with his charming smile and smooth movements.
And you would never dare tell Daphne or your cousin of your thoughts; no matter how hard she tries to convince you he feels something for you.
You take a deep breath, returning your focus onto the game only to meet a pair of oak brown eyes gazing upon you.
You tear your gaze away at the sounds of Violet walking down the stairs, carrying a smiling Augie in her arms earning a smile from you as you observe the happy baby.
You glance towards her and offer a polite smile, giving her a moment to settle down in the free chair before turning to focus on the young babe. “Hello, Augie,” you greet him with a baby tone and shake his chubby fingers.
“He’s always taken with you,” Violet comments.
“I am the one who always manages to search for his mother when he cries for her. Sometimes I believe myself to be a dog.”
She chuckles, “that’s not it.”
“Why else would he like me?”
“You have a natural instinct that he senses. Children know these things.”
“If that’s what you say.”
Daphne steps away from the others, wanting to see her child. “She is right, you know.”
“Not you too,” you groan.
“You will make a fantastic mother.”
“Someday.”
“It could happen sooner than one would think.”
“What are you planning?”
“Nothing.”
Anthony stares back at you once more, observing the way you interact with his dear nephew. As he searches for someone to call wife, his most secretive thoughts keep coming to mind. The more he searches and the longer you stay, the more he finds himself wondering.
His mother continues to help him in his search for a wife albeit reluctantly since she finds herself so fond of you. She’d never explicitly tell him to pursue you but, she could always kindly ease him into the right direction, which is when his disbelief comes to the surface, truly believing you to feel nothing for him.
He knows if he tried to pursue you and it fell through, he will have ruined a lifelong friendship for his family- as he watches Daphne hold her purple mallet for you to take- he realizes he can’t pursue you.
Not that he’d ever given it any real thought, but he’d never be able to forgive himself if he was the reason, you stopped coming by.
You shake your head.
She puts it in your hand, persuading you into taking her place so she can attend to Augie.
You step down from the seating area with little energy.
His sister offers encouraging nods.
“I see you finally came to join us,” comments Anthony.
You avoid his gaze- you can barely stand beside him. “Not like I wanted to,” you reply.
“You’re scared to lose?”
You scoff, turning to look up at him, “that is not what I said.”
He smirks, leaning closer to you, “you didn’t have to.”
You narrow your eyes at him, “we’ll see who’s laughing when I win.” You walk away, taking your turn. You’re satisfied until you sense him behind you.
He follows you, “for someone who didn’t want to play earlier, you’ve certainly found your spirit.”
“Or was it a trick?” You smirk, glancing at him when the ball rolls through the metal hoop with ease. “You look nice,” you comment, turning around to walk away.
Anthony’s brows furrow together, his body takes over as he steps closer to you, standing beside you. “What do you mean?”
You turn, struggling to find the right words without sending the wrong message. “I only meant you look nice. You know, people- people can actually see your face now.”
He continues to stare at you.
“Your sideburns were nice but it- they- people may have assumed you grew them to hide what lies in your heart.”
“And what do you think lies there?” The words escape him before he could process his thoughts.
“I believe the love for your family and future wife is there, along with the care and compassion you hold for them. I do have to admit, I am a bit glad you shaved.”
He tilts his head, “and why is that?”
“I was afraid you would have continued growing them and at some point, they would connect,” you use both hands the gesture from your sideburns to your upper lip, “and you would look as though you were wearing a mask of sorts,” you say with one hundred percent seriousness until you think about it and snicker, covering your face with your hand.
Anthony is also unable to keep himself collected and joins in. He straightens his posture, “what of you?”
You take a deep breath, fanning yourself. "What of me, for what?”
“What do you think lies in your heart?”
“The same as you, I suppose. Love and compassion for my family and the few friends I have.”
“What about me?” He asks before he can stop himself.
“What?” You don’t know what to think.
“I-” He walks past you, placing his mallet back into place before exiting, wandering to the garden. He needs to get as far away from you as he can in order to clear his mind.
You don’t understand what’s happened and place your mallet beside his before chasing after him.
-
He stares at you, half listening to you and his attention moves elsewhere.
“Are you even listening to me?” You stare at him, wanting to understand him. You’re too into your thoughts to hear the faint buzz.
The noise sends a shiver down his spine, he knows the noise too well; his nightmares (if he can remember any) always start with the faint buzz.
He doesn’t move as he searches for it. Sadly, for the eldest child, he doesn’t have to search for long as the small, striped animal floats around you. He prays to whoever is listening to hear his silent prayers for it doesn’t sting you; he can’t lose someone else to the blasted creature.
“Anthony?” You ask, glancing down when you feel something land on you. You realize why he can’t look away. “Hey, it’s alright.”
He can’t focus on your words, his mind rattled with the memory of his late father. “Don’t move,” his voice is low and shaky.
“I know, it’s a bee but, it won’t hurt me as long as I-” you close your eyes due to the discomfort you get from the sting, and it sends him into a whirlwind. “I’ll be alright,” you say, still trying to reassure him. You open your eyes to see how pale he’s gotten.
He invades your personal space, grasping onto your arms. “Are- are you-” He glances back and forth between your face and your wound. His voice is low, far too low for you to understand what it is he is trying to say but you swear you hear him mutter something along the lines of, “don’t move'' repeatedly.
You know you must calm him down before he can do anything. You reach for him, placing a hand on his cheek, forcing him to look at you. “Breathe, Anthony. I need you to breathe.”
He can’t say anything, almost as if he’s choking on air. Images of his father invade his mind, filling him with worry and dread.
You can see he is close to tears. Your voice draws him out of his thoughts. “I promise you. I hope you know I wouldn’t lie to you. I’m fine but I will still have a doctor come and look at it so that it may heal properly. I’m right here. I’m here with you.”
Anthony’s hands grip your biceps, he notices how swollen the sting site has become.
“It stung me, but I am not hurting. This has happened before. I will be fine.”
None of your reassurances are having any effect on him.
The image of his father taking his last breath in his mother’s arm is enough to make lean in to suck the venom out.
“Anthony?! What are you-” You cut yourself off at the feeling of his shaky hands trying to remove the stinger. “Anthony, you must stop.”
“Shut up,” he hisses, trying to stay focused on keeping you healthy (and alive) while fighting to keep his father’s death out of his mind.
You take deep breaths, you try to push him away, but he is insistent and stronger than you. “I am fine, I just need to see a doctor and I-”
“Would you be quiet,” he finally lifts his head to look up at you.
You gulp, “I know- I know what tragedy has happened in your family but, today will not be the same for me.”
He doesn’t listen and continues to squeeze the area.
You gasp, eyes widening at the feeling of his hands being so close to your breast. This has gone too far; you must stop this before someone sees. “Anthony,” you place your hands on his chest to push him away once more.
“Stop it,” he shoves your arms off him. “Let me get rid of the venom.”
“There is a doctor who can do this and-”
“The doctor is not here. I am.” He stops squeezing when some liquid begins to spill out of the wound.
You look down, finding the trail of liquid, “see, you did it. Now, I am going inside to-”
Anthony pulls out a handkerchief, wiping away the trail. “It’s not all of it.”
You wrap your hand around his wrist, stopping him from patting you dry. “You must stop this, Anthony. If anything were to have happened, it would have happened already.”
“There is still more,” he mutters, staring at the irritated area.
“You need to stop.”
“I haven’t gotten all of it,” he turns, staring at you.
“Whatever it is you’re thinking of doing. Don’t.”
“I have to get the venom out before it kills you.”
“It won’t kill me-” you gasp, seeing the determination in him as he leans forward. You place your hand on his shoulder, keeping his head away but fail to remove his hand.
The click clack of women’s shoes against the rock pathway alerts you, but you feel as though you can’t move.
A gasp makes you turn to find his mother alongside your cousin, Mildred (Millie for short), staring at the two of you with shocked expressions.
Your heart rate increases and gain enough strength to fully shove him away from you, knowing how this looks.
He glances up at you with a confused expression.
“Anthony?” Violet calls out.
His brows furrow further, he looks over your shoulder, “mother?”
“What is going here?”
“She was stung by a- a bee.”
“A bee?”
“Yes, a bee. I’d told him repeatedly I was fine. I’ve dealt with being stung before,” you say, struggling to keep yourself together.
“You were stung by a bee and the boy found himself attached to you?” Mildred raises a brow.
“Don’t look at me like that, Millie.”
“I’m not, I’m wondering how you think this can be kept quiet.”
“Kept quiet?” You repeat quietly to yourself.
“Neither of us would repeat a word of what occurred today,” he argues.
“That doesn’t mean anything for a woman’s reputation,” Mildred says with an attitude.
“You do realize anyone could walk out here and spot the two of you, don’t you?”
He doesn’t say anything.
“Don’t you?”
He grits his teeth, “I do.”
“You should consider yourself lucky that it was us who found you and no one else, rake.”
“That’s enough now, Mildred,” Violet intervenes. “Let’s,” she takes a deep breath, “let’s go inside and talk about this further. Lady Starlington needs to be seen by a doctor.”
You can’t stand to be there any longer and turn away from him, walking past the two ladies and Anthony; your pace speeds up before you know it, you’re sprinting back to Audrey Hall.
Mildred sighs, “now what are we to do?”
“We will all walk back and discuss this,” Violet says.
“Of course, we are but, what am I to tell my parents? They’ll be curious to know why their niece’s name is in a Lady Whistledown column.”
Anthony grunts, taking a step towards the two. He passes by them and quickly announces, “we will marry before the end of the season.”
“Did he say what I think he did?” asks Mildred, watching his figure walk away with wide eyes.
Violet sighs, shaking her head, “I believe he did.”
“Did I do the right thing?”
The mother of the family stops, turning to face your cousin, “what do you mean?”
“I- I basically pushed themselves together into this potentially unhappy marriage. I know I sometimes I can’t keep my comments to myself but, I swear I had good intentions. It's just- when we came around the corner to see that I- I worry about her. I fear I may have ruined my relationship with the two.”
“I can’t give you an exact answer but, I can say that as long as you have your cousin’s interest and happiness in mind, the most you can do is hope for the best. They are both emotionally driven people, even if neither wishes to admit it. This will be hard for them, and it may be a test.”
“A test?”
“To see if they will make good of their marriage. You and I, as well as my other children, have come to realize how they connect with one another. They can’t see it for themselves but there is something there and now is the time for them to see it.”
“I suppose so. What if they can’t make it work?”
“Then I fear they will be in a miserable marriage.”
-
No one else disturbed you after the doctor left.
You sit at the edge of the bed, your vision blurs; you cover your mouth with shaky hands. You don’t want others to hear if they happen to be walking by. You cry, struggling to catch your breath.
Everything you’ve been feeling with the last few days is slowly escaping you. Your mother is requesting to visit and marriage situation with Anthony; it’s too much.
You take deep breaths, aiming to calm yourself down.
Maybe it would be better if you left and went home or maybe somewhere far from here.
A knock disturbs you from your thoughts.
You wipe your cheeks, hoping whoever it is will go away but fail as another knock comes through. You take a deep breath and open the door, “Viscount Bridgerton?”
He lifts his gaze off the floor, “what happened to Anthony?”
Any curiosity falls from your expression, “your making light of the situation?”
He shakes his head, “I would never.”
“I think you’ve done enough today. It’s almost time for bed.”
He takes a step closer to the door, his hand inches away from being crushed, “I,” he sighs, taking a step back, removing his hand from the door. “I have come to ask if you would have dinner with me.”
“With you?”
“I think it would be wise if we talked before anything becomes… official.”
“Now?”
“Are you going to use full sentences any time soon?”
“Why should I? Is it bothering you?”
“Nevermind that. Are you going to join me or not?”
“Will there be someone else there?”
He gives you a reluctant nod, “yes, your dearest cousin, Mildred.”
“I’ll be down in a moment. I will meet you there.”
“I’ll wait here.”
“Do you have to?”
“No but, I think it might be good practice for us.”
“Practice,” you mumble and shut the door. You walk over to the vanity, staring at yourself, wondering how you got into this situation. You snatch the extra handkerchief and pat your face, removing any evidence of your despair.
You take careful steps toward the door and exit, Anthony leaning against the wall across from your room. He holds his arm out for you to hold.
You shake your head.
“Don’t you think you’ve touched her enough today?”
He sighs, “Mildred.”
“Who else would it be?” She interlocks your arms together, pulling you ahead of the eldest Bridgerton. “Come on.”
-
“Do either of you know how to use it?” Anthony asks, staring at the stove.
Mildred shakes her head, “the maids are always around to do it.”
“Both of you sit down,” you say.
“Do you know how to work this?” he asks, sounding surprised.
“I do. It’s too late for us to have a full meal, instead we can have a glass of warm milk.”
They sit at the table in the corner of the room.
Anthony watches as you move gracefully around the kitchen.
“If you keep staring, she’ll catch you.”
He turns to her, “what?”
“You’re staring.”
“No, I wasn’t,” he denies.
“You can lie all you want but I know you care for her. Perhaps, you always have and never wanted to admit it before and the whole bee situation was a ruse so that you could stop being a ninny and marry her instead.”
His jaw drops, he doesn’t know how to respond. “I did not-”
She waves him off, “do not lie Anthony, I know you love her and have for some time now, only you must realize it now than later in your marriage. I do not want her… or you to be unhappy. Oddly enough, I seem to care for you but, obviously not the same way she does you.”
He scoffs through his nose, muttering to himself, “obviously.”
You place the glass of milk in front of the two, interrupting their conversation. “Don’t tell me you’ve decided to marry my cousin instead.”
Anthony nearly chokes on the liquid, setting the glass down and snatches the handkerchief you hold out for him.
He wipes his chin, “what makes you think I would want to marry, Mildred.”
She scoffs, “you’d be lucky to have me, Bridgerton.”
He narrows his eyes to her.
“I’ll be just outside this door, leaving the two of you talk and nothing else.”
You furrow your brows, “wait. Mil-”
She waves to you.
You take a deep breath, not wanting to face him.
It was different when he wasn't paying attention to you and rather his own life, but now... you hope he doesn't want to talk.
"We should- we should talk."
Everything in your screams to not run away and hide, even though it sounds like it would be the better option right now.
"How are you?"
"I would be happier if I was marrying for love and not because of your concern over my virtue," you mumble.
He overhears and sighs. “Don’t-”
“No, I understand. Truly I do, just- I need- it’s late. Apologies for keeping you up.” You grab the skirts of your dress and walk out.
Mildred watches as you run away. She spins around and stands in the doorway. “What did you do?”
“Me- I-”
She sighs. “Just shut up.”
He sighs and slumps in the chair. Mildred storms into the room after you.
-
“What happened?”
“Nothing.” You take a deep breath, hunched over your vanity.
“You know, you two act as a married couple who have known each other for too long and no longer know how to act lovingly around one another.”
“You are wrong, cousin. He is- he is the scum- the scum that rests at the bottom of my shoe. Why would I ever marry someone like that? Much less that Bridgerton, I mean, Colin would be a better option and I don’t like him as much as I do Benedict.” You keep your head down, “people marry for less.”
“I wish to marry for love, if it ever decides to come my way but until then I will deal with him marrying the only person, I care about that is close to my age.”
“So, you care enough about me to marry me off?”
“Don’t phrase it in such a way that makes me the bad guy,” she throws herself onto your bed.
“Go to bed. I will be fine, Millie.”
She props herself up on her elbows. “Are you sure?”
“I am. Please,” you look up and turn around, putting on a brave face. “I promise you. I will be fine.”
“If you’re sure-”
“Which I am. Goodnight, Millie.”
She sighs and steps outside of the room, “night.”
-
“Good morning.”
You don’t respond to Mildred.
“Are you ignoring me?”
“I am simply showing you the way my soon-to-be husband will treat me.”
“What do you mean?”
“It has already begun. I awoke early and decided I wanted to speak to him after thinking about it all. I say hi but he does not.” You shrug, "it doesn't matter now."
"It does though. Let me," she sighs. "Let me speak with him. I can- I can fix this."
"No," you say. “I don’t want you to be in the middle any more than you have.”
“Alright... now onto more pressing matters.”
“Such as?”
“Your plans for the wedding?”
“Oh, right.” You continue to stare out the window.
“Are you sure you're alright?”
“I just-”
Anthony stops himself from knocking on the door and decides to listen.
“I thought when I was to marry, I would marry for love not because I need my virtue protected or saved."
"If he didn't agree to this-"
"I would be a spinster."
"That is how I will live my life," Mildred grabs your hand and gains your attention.
Anthony takes his leave, unable to stay there any longer.
“That is not how I want you to live your life. I want you to be the one to have another you can call upon if there is something the matter because I won’t always be there and I need to know that you are protected before I leave.”
“You’re leaving?”
She sighs. “This isn’t how I wanted you to find out but yes. A week after you’ve been married, I plan on traveling the world.”
“Your childhood dream.”
“Precisely.”
"I- what if I'm not good enough to," you wave your hand around. "This."
"This what? I'm not sure I understand."
"What if- what if I am not fit to be a wife. I mean," you push yourself out of the chair and pace around the room. "I don't want him to be disappointed in the person he is to call wife. I don't want to be in a marriage of..."
"Regret?"
"Precisely."
She stops you by placing a hand on your wrists, “now is the time for us to plan your wedding. Violet and Anthony have been sitting in the tearoom since I came in here.”
“She’s- they’re- why didn’t you tell me?” You rush out the door.
-
You clean yourself up outside the door and nod to your servant, Bernard, to open the doors. You nervously smile at both.
Violet pops up from the chair closest to the window. “How are you?”
“Oh- uh- I’m,” you glance to the side and stare at her eldest, who locks eyes with you.
“I mean from the- well, you know,” she struggles to say.
You let out a breath of relief, “ah, yes. I do. I am- I am fine. I’m just happy that everyone else is fine.”
She smiles, “that is kind of you to say, but unnecessary.”
“I hear you came to talk about our upcoming… event.”
“Is that what Mildred told you?”
You furrow your brows, “is that not what you’re here to discuss?”
Anthony pushes himself off the couch. “Not yet. Mother, if you’d excuse us.”
“Anthony, I don’t-”
He gives her a look.
"We will be right outside this door."
"What did you want to discuss?"
"If we are to marry, we should have stipulations."
"You think I'll be so horrible that we need rules?"
"Not you. I believe if we have these, we'll have a better understanding of what should come from this marriage."
"Why don't I just stay by your side and show my face when you need me to so you can look like the perfect husband? Would that make things easier?"
He sighs. "That is one of the things we need to discuss, which events you'd prefer to come to."
"Oh, I get to choose those?"
"Please stop. I am trying to make this as easy as I can."
You clench your fists. "How am I supposed to be okay with this?"
“It’s my fault and I am trying to make up for that.”
You pause, “your fault?”
He nods, “yes, it was- it was me who... couldn’t.”
You step forward and place your hand on his, drawing his attention onto you. “It is not your fault when something so devastating comes to mind and you do all you can to prevent another. I do not blame you, but you must understand that I do not want to be one of those ladies.”
“Who?” The only word he can get out as he studies you.
Your compassion shifts into something of annoyance, one he knows too well. “You know who, someone who wants to be like Penelope’s mother or maybe even... all of the other ladies,” you chuckle, proud of the joke you made.
"I'm glad you can make jokes at a time like this."
You roll your eyes, "oh hush, I am still upset about pretending to be a perfect housewife for the one man every woman dreams of being with."
"Are you included?"
Your mouth agape as you stare at him.
"You two haven't maimed each other, perfect."
"Millie," you pinch the bridge of your nose.
"Oh, don't act so coy now."
You roll your eyes and sit down, waiting to hear what Anthony and his mother have to say. You pace along the floor, finding it to be quieter here than in the tearoom with the others, even if they weren’t talking it was still too loud. You know there’s no alternative for what’s transpired between you and your soon to be husband, but it still hurts knowing he will never love you the way-
“Are you alright?” Daphne’s voice draws you out of your thoughts.
You give her a small smile and hope she doesn’t poke further.
“I know this isn’t how it was supposed to happen but there is one good thing about your marriage.”
You scoff, “and what, pray tell, is that?”
“I finally can call you sister.”
You try not to show how happy that makes you, not wanting her to know she was right. “Thank you.”
She drags you over to the piano.
“I still don’t understand why you have many so pianos.”
She shrugs, “for moments like this, maybe?”
“Are you waiting for me to play?”
She nods, “of course, I am. You were always much better than I was.”
“I was not.”
“Show me then. Show me how awful you play, and I will not ask you again.”
You don’t know how long you had been playing for, but it was something you missed- not having a piano in your own home, you didn’t realize how long it had been.
You usually prefer to play when no one is watching but having Daphne by your side was nice, she always knew how to help calm you before things could get worse; everyone knew of your father’s temper, and no one wants to face that through his only daughter.
Anthony raises his hand to knock on the door but pauses as he listens, he doesn’t realize Daphne had learned a new piece. He slowly opens the door and finds you playing instead.
‘When did you learn how to play?’ He wonders.
Or maybe it was, you had always known, and he was too into his fantasies that he forgot to pay attention to the true version of you.
Just when he was hoping to learn something horrible about you; you’re becoming more and more like his...
“I didn’t know you played.”
You open your eyes and glance up at him, standing up as quickly as you can. “I don’t.”
He furrows his brows, “that’s not what I heard.”
“That- that was nothing.”
“Why are you lying?”
“I prefer to keep this information to myself so if you could kindly pretend you didn’t hear anything, that’d be best.” You exit the room, knowing you’ve left
Anthony in a wave of confusion. “What was that about?”
“She doesn’t like others to know of her talents because she knows they’ll ask her to perform one of them.”
“Her mother.” He finally understands.
“And her aunt.”
Now he truly gets it. "Is this what you two would do while I was out with mother?"
She shrugs and pushes the seat back. "Perhaps, or maybe you were never around long enough to learn about her even though you're entranced by her."
He stutters, unsure of where she could have gotten that idea. "What?"
She quickly hides her amusement before he can see. "Nothing. Goodnight Anthony."
He tries to stop her, but she ignores him, offering an excuse for needing to put Augie to bed. He wonders what else he doesn’t know.
You pace back and forth in front of his office door; this isn’t something you can do in person, is it? You sigh and wonder if it’s a wise choice to be doing this at all.
You slip the letter under his door and take a step back. “That wasn’t so hard.” You turn around and briskly walk down the hallway, hoping he doesn’t see that it was you who was there.
Something moving in the corner of his eye piqued his interest and moved closer to figure out what it was. He picks up the letter and opens the door, seeing someone’s figure turning the corner before losing sight of them.
He closes the door and opens the letter, wondering what you could have said when you’ve already said plenty.
Dear Bridgerton,
I I want to start off by apologizing for my outbursts, you don’t deserve them, and they are not aimed at you, but you happen to be the person I am talking to and... This is not how I expected the season to begin or end and I’m sure you didn’t either but if there is someone I were to marry, I’m happy it’d be you... because I trust you. I will do all that I can to be the perfect wife for you and if not, I apologize in advance.
Sincerely, Your annoying soon to be wife
The next day came, and you didn't know how to act.
You sit between Daphne and Mildred when he enters.
He sits in front of you and nods, acknowledging you, which you return.
The girls beside you don't know how to react, each staring at the other with a raised brow.
You two talked with his mother about the decisions for your wedding.
"Have you two discussed what you want?"
Anthony opens his mouth to answer but finds himself without an answer.
"Everyone will talk, and it will no doubt be in Lady Whistledown's column, but it would be preferred if we had a small ceremony, family only."
You don’t look up from your plate. Violet nods, listening intently. "I will use the dress my mother made when I was born, it'll save us time on getting a dress. The flowers can be your choice."
"And after?"
You turn to her, "it'd be smart to hold a small reception after all though it will increase because everyone will want to see who married the handsome and fortunate viscount."
You push yourself out of the chair. "I apologize but I realized I promised to spend time with the girls before we go out for our shopping trip."
"What just happened?"
"Have you two talked about anything regarding your wedding?" Violet asks her son.
"Every time we discuss something-"
"No, have you sat down and discussed what you two are to do? Who will be there? Anything that a soon to be husband and wife should discuss?"
His shoulders sag. "No."
"I want you to go in my place."
"What? Why?"
"It will give you two a moment to talk and prepare for the future hardships you two will face as a couple. Raise her spirits. She got a letter from her mother, saying she will not be able to attend. Perhaps that is why she is so uninterested today."
"She- how do you know?"
"I'm your mother, I know more than you would think."
-
Anthony waiting by the door frightened you. “Are you joining us?”
“I’m here in place of my mother.”
It takes you a few seconds to process what he said. “You are?”
He nods. “Shall we?”
You close your eyes and take a deep breath.
The failed whispering voices of the women around you, annoys you to the point where Anthony feels that he needs to do something. “Is there anything that has caught your interest?”
You shake your head.
“Let’s go. I know somewhere we can have a better time, away from the whispers of these women.” He leans in, whispering into your ear, “they’re jealous of you.”
You cover your mouth to hide your amusement, not wanting him to know he’s helping lift your spirits. You two exit the shop and return to the Bridgerton home. “Why are we back here?”
“We are going to have a drink.”
“With your family? Couldn’t we do that any day we wanted to?”
He holds his hand out for you to take, which you do. “Although that may be true, that’s not what I had in mind.” He places his arms behind his back, clenching his fist not wanting you to see the control you have over him. “We’re going to spend time in my office.”
“Oh? I’m invited in, I feel so special.”
“You should, very few are allowed in here, especially when I’m working.”
“Of course. The head of the house needs quiet or else.”
-
“I see going out has helped you.”
You watch as he fills the glass for you before grabbing it and swallowing it in one gulp. “You could say that.” You scrunch your nose at the sensation, maybe doing that was a bad idea.
He takes a seat in his chair.
“Could I ask you something?”
He nods, staring at you over the glass as he takes a sip.
“Did your mother inform of the one guest we won’t be seeing at our wedding?”
He slowly sets the glass down before returning his gaze to you. “She may have mentioned it.”
“Is that why you came with me today because she told you to and not because you wanted to?”
“She may have said she thought it was best if I take her place, but it was initially my choice to go.”
“You’re not lying?”
“What would I gain from lying to you?”
You sit up and reach for the bottle, filling your glass. “A relationship built on a lie.”
He sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Are you trying to make this harder than it needs to be?”
“I can’t just- you can’t honestly expect me to ignore that we are marrying one another when you never wanted to marry and I hoped that when it happened, it’d be with someone who loved me.”
He’s out of his chair before you realize he’s now sitting in the chair beside you. “What will it take for you to stop saying that?”
“What?”
He leans in closer. “Why do you think I could never love you?”
“I-” You gulp. “You have spoken before that you never want to marry, what else am I to think?”
“How do you know I couldn’t change? What if something comes of this relationship?”
Your breath hitches and you continue staring him in his eyes. “I suppose we’ll have to cross that bridge if we get to it.” You set the glass down and rush for the door, “I’ll take my leave now. I’m feeling quite tired after our outing.”
He grabs your wrist, pulling you back in before you could open the door. “I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have pressured you into answering my questions.”
“What if I enjoyed them?”
You turn to face him with a small smile. “Then I am concerned for your being.”
“Don’t worry about me.”
“Be honest, did you mother tell you about my mother is not coming?”
“No,” he shakes his head, but you know the truth.
“You don’t need to lie on order to preserve myself, it’s okay.” You sigh, “is it sad that a small part of me wishes for her to be there?”
“Not in the least. It’s natural for you to want your mother there-”
“It’s not because she’s my family, I just- I need her to stop pushing marriage onto me.” You pace back and forth, “this is my way to prove her wrong but that makes me feel worse because it makes me seem as though I’m being a bad daughter.”
“You’re not,” he disagrees with you. “That is anything but you being a bad daughter. If anything, she’s- she’s scared to lose her daughter to a new family because they know you will be starting a new life, away from her and that’s why she doesn’t want you to help.”
“But what if-”
His hand slides down your arm as if his hand lingering wasn’t enough to drive you mad, he tightens his grip on your hand.
You force yourself to focus on his words and not the warmth emanating from him.
“Stop. All the negative thoughts you have are not going to help you. But listen to this, you are a good daughter, and she should be happy to know her daughter will be taken care of. As long as you are a part of this family you will be taken care of and not have to worry about expectations.”
“I won’t,” you whisper, not meaning to. He shakes his head and gives a small smile. “I promise.”
He realizes he’s been holding onto you this whole time and his arm falls. “Can I walk you back to your room?”
You nod, ignoring the warmth flooding your cheeks. “I would like that.”
-
“Will I see you at breakfast tomorrow?”
“You will, and if I ask you the same question?”
He smiles, “I will be there.”
“Good, I think this is a good start to our future marriage.” You step inside the room.
“I am sorry.”
“What?”
“The marriage… and the reason we are to wed.”
“What do you mean?”
“I lost myself and-”
You shake your head, placing a hand on his chest over his heart. “I do not blame you for something as traumatizing as your father’s death. Please know that.”
“But-”
“Anthony Bridgerton,” you tell him using a stern tone. “Stop it. It may not have happened under the best of circumstances, but I am happy that I will be wed to you than some other man. I can at least trust you.” You step back into the doorway, slowly closing the door as you bid him goodnight.
He stands there, touching the spot where your hand was until he drops it, straining his hand as he fights to clench it.
-
Benedict and Colin happen to be there when he turns the corner.
“Quite a show you put on there,” the second eldest says.
“Yes, you’re whole “I’ll be the perfect husband” speech was wonderful,” the third eldest chimes in.
Anthony scoffs, “would you two quiet down?” He grabs them by their collars, dragging them into one of their miscellaneous rooms. “Why aren’t you two out?”
“How could we be out when you’re here?” Colin asks.
“Trying to woo the love of your life,” Benedict adds on.
“I’m not- you two are acting like children.”
“Us? Acting like children?” Colin starts, glancing at his brother.
“No,” the artist shakes his head, “I don’t think so.”
The soon to be married man glares at his brothers, unsure if he wants to listen further or not but if he doesn’t let them continue it’ll be worse in the morning. He pinches the bridge of his nose. “If I let you two continue, will you keep quiet in the morning?”
“Morning?” Colin turns to partner in crime. “What’s happening in the morning?”
The artist glances over his older brother and grins, “is the soon to be wed joining his family and future wife for breakfast?”
“With him being silent, I’m going to say yes.”
“Finally, you agree with me.”
“I agree with you,” the third eldest argues.
“I don’t recall.”
“Okay, now that you two are done, I’m going to bed.”
“To dream of your wife.”
“She looked quite nice today, wouldn’t you say brother?” Benedict asks.
“I dare say, she looks even more radiant since her recent engagement.”
“You two are done,” Anthony shoves them out of the room. “You two will not speak of her like that again. She is your friend,” he jabs Benedict’s chest. “And your future sister-in-law,” and does the same to Colin. “You will respect her and not talk like this again, understood?”
“Yes, sir.”
-
The next morning as soon as you step out of the door, your future husband paces. “You’re awake.”
“I am, it’s time for breakfast.” You close the door behind you. “Shall we go downstairs and join the others?”
“We’ll be the first ones down there.”
“Either way, I’m going down.”
He holds his arm out for you to take. “Shall we?”
You give him a small smile and nod. “After breakfast, what are your plans?”
“I have a few things I need to look over but after that I’m free. What did you have in mind?”
“I planned on going for a walk along the back of your family’s estate and perhaps we could talk about things.”
“Just the two of us.”
“Mildred could join us?”
“I’d rather she not.”
“I don’t blame you; she’s been on a rampage since earlier this week.”
The doors open and his brothers, Daphne and Mildred, are already sitting at the table.
“Of course,” he mumbles.
“Did you say something?” You ask him.
He turns his head towards you, offering a small smile. “No, it’s nothing.”
The glances between him and his brothers were interesting, intriguing to you and the girls, who also had no clue what was going on.
He stands behind your chair, hand resting on your shoulder. “I shall find you after I am done.”
You nod and watch him go.
“Well, that was interesting.”
Daphne shushes your cousin.
-
You lay across the couch, reading another book and were so into it, not even realizing that he had entered the room.
He smiles as he steps closer, wondering what’s going on inside your head, finding you to be more interesting as he observes you reading, compared to his sister. He leans against the back of the couch, bending down to catch your attention.
A shadow moving catches your eye and you turn, screaming soon after.
You place your hand over your heart, taking deep breaths. “For heaven’s sake! What was that for?”
“What do you mean?” He smirks, arms on around the sides of your body as he stays behind the couch. “What are you reading?”
You turn around and cross your arms, “why does that concern you?”
“Can’t a future husband be curious as to what his future wife is into?”
You glance at him from the corner of your eye. “Is that all?”
“It is. But that’s not why I’m here.” He doesn’t say anything else.
You get impatient and wave your arms around. “Spit it out. Come on.”
“We are to marry by the end of the week.”
Your brows raise is surprise, “oh.”
“Is that alright?”
You take a deep breath, “I just- I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon but that’s- okay.” You place the book beside you and stand up, brushing the wrinkles out of the skirts of your dress. “I need to go over some things with your mother.”
The humor falls from his face. “Wait- where are you going?”
"I just told you."
He follows after you, "I heard you but-" He reaches for you, pulling you back. "Can we talk?"
You take a deep breath to calm your beating heart. Why is this happening now? You thought you were over this. Your lips part as you stare at his hand. You shake your head, staring up at him. "I- what do we need to talk about?"
"Lady... things." He’s quiet for a moment. "I won't push you but know I'm here to talk if you need someone."
"Thank you." You take off, not noticing the way his hand slowly falls or the way he clenches his hand.
It's been a long time since he's felt the skin of a woman he was enchanted by, especially one he's to call wife.
"Did we catch a moment between you and your beloved?"
Anthony sighs, "don't you have charcoal to break for your fruit drawings?"
His younger brother puts a hand to his chest, offended by his brother's comment. "I'm hurt, Anthony. Truly, I am but it's not why I'm here."
He turns to face the artistic Bridgerton, taking notice of the serious look on his face. "What's wrong?"
"Sister."
"Which one?"
"Not one of ours."
He furrows his brows, mouth agape to ask why but realizes who his brother is referring to. "I thought we had taken care of this situation?"
"We did but then she decided to cut their trip short and has been calling on you since she arrived today."
"I need you to take care of her. I cannot allow her to ruin my marriage."
Benedict nods, "you finally figured out you truly care for her, didn't you?"
Anthony chuckles, "I'm not discussing this with you. Call Colin if you need help."
"We got it. Go take care of my future sister."
-
He nods for the doors to be opened. "Good morning, ladies."
Your cousin shakes her head, your mother fawns over him while Violet takes a sip of her tea.
Your eyes widen at the sight of him.
He places a hand on the back of your chair. "I expect you all enjoyed your breakfast before discussing more of the wedding."
"Oh, certainly. Your family has been nothing but kind to us, Viscount."
You adjust the napkin on your lap to keep you from rolling your eyes at your mother's fake enthusiast tone.
Mildred pats your arm, knowing the strained relationship between you and your mother.
He notices the tension in your shoulders and wishes he could pull you away from all this madness. "Anything I can help with?"
"Oh, heavens no. You have other more important things to take care of. Leave this to us ladies, isn't that, right?"
You purse your lips and let out a quiet, "mmhmm."
Maybe it was better when she said she couldn’t come to the wedding. Yes, you were sad, but it was better than the real thing.
Violet glances between you and your mother. "Why don't we let the girls go on a walk with Anthony watching over them?"
"But-"
"I think this will be good for them. It will give them more time to talk."
The woman hesitates to say yes, debating if this is truly a wise decision before making a decision.
-
You didn't realize how tight you were squeezing Mildred's arm until she let out a whine.
Your eyes widen, "oh, Millie. I'm so sorry."
"It's fine. I should have known better. I know how crazy she makes you." "This always happens?" You don't look in his direction. Your cousin nods her head, "unfortunately."
"Why has she made this unexpected visit?"
"She," Mildred pauses, giving herself time to think of a better answer than truth.
"She wants to know if I am with child and if the reason, you're marrying me is to save my family's name."
Anthony nods, he understands why you preferred planning this with his mother and your cousin. "Should we?"
You two glance over in his direction. "What are you implying?"
He shrugs, "I merely suggest we pretend as if there is something going on, give your mother something to worry about."
"You want her to pretend as if she is with child?"
He nods, confirming Mildred's nightmare.
"Please tell me you're not thinking of going through with this. It’s absurd and- oh, no. Now I like it."
You glance between the two. "Is this something you two finally agree on?"
They stumble for a minute, waiting for the other to argue and tell you no but come to realize you are, in fact, correct.
Daphne stumbles upon the three of you and smiles, neither Mildred nor her brother are arguing, and you don't look uncomfortable.
"Daphne!" Your cousin waves. "Come, come. We need your knowledge on a subject."
She nods, smiling. "May I ask what you need my help with exactly?"
"How does one pretend to be with child?"
She owlishly blinks, tilting her head staring at the woman as if she's lost her mind. "I'm sorry?"
"We are feeding into my aunt's absurd idea of her precious daughter being with child."
Anthony purses his lips, finding himself to be offended more than he had been by Mildred's comments. "I'm not the worst option for a father."
"Moving on," she waves him off before returning her attention to his sister. "We need information."
"And you want to do this?" She turns to face you.
Your eyes widen slightly, not realizing she was going to ask. "I think it would be... nice to show mother how well her child is without her watchful eye."
"And you're sure this is the way to do it?"
You shrug, "it's not so much if I think this is okay, it's more like she needs to realize I am my own person and can live a life without her dictating everything for me."
Daphen nods, "okay. I will help."
Mildred smiles and interlocks her arm with the Bridgerton girl's. "Come, we have much to discuss."
You turn to your future husband and raise a brow.
He stares at the two, wondering what advice his sister could have to offer before holding his arm out for you to hold onto as you all return to the hall for dinner.
"Are you sure about this?"
You hum, not having listened to a word he said.
"I asked if you're sure about this. Mildred and I were joking, we don't expect you to play along with this idea."
"Your kind, but this is something I need to do. She won't listen to reason if I tell her I don't need her help, she'll involve herself, no matter what."
"And this is how you'll get her to stop?"
You sigh, "we'll see."
The dinner was entertaining for most, you felt bad for embarrassing Violet and the Bridgerton name all to get your mother off your back, but you felt there was no other way to stop her from inserting her wants and needs before yours.
That was the first night you had a stern talking to from your future mother-in-law and- even though you could have thought of a better way to handle the situation, it felt nice to be taken care of the way a child should, compared to the way your mother raised you.
You didn’t talk to your cousin or future husband after and went to bed with too much on your mind.
-
Then came the wedding, it was as lovely as could be even if it was short notice and only family was invited.
It came as a surprise to everyone, mainly yourself, when your mother decided it was time to stop and act like a caring parent.
She smiled and fixed a piece of hair that was out of place. “I know this isn’t the wedding you dreamed about-”
“I didn’t dream of a wedding often.”
She sighs, realizing she’s been putting words in your mouth rather than stopping to listen to you. “I never dreamed of marrying someone I didn’t love. If I were to ever get married, I’d rather it be with someone I could have a future with than someone who would rather be with another.”
"I know."
"And you know what else- you know?"
She nods, "I've been trying to relive my life through you, and it isn't fair. I'm here to watch you marry the man who will provide, take care of you," she cups your cheeks. "And love you the way you deserve."
You shake your head, fighting to keep your composure, not wanting anyone to know of your breakdown. "He doesn't love me."
She nods, "he does, you just can't see it."
"How-"
Your mother shushes you, "it's time."
The reality of the situation didn't hit you until it was time to walk down the aisle but with the help of Mildred and Daphne, you were able to overcome it.
That was also the only time you've felt the lips of your husband.
-
Since the wedding it feels as though all the progress you two made was wasted, even Mildred was tired of your constant complaints before and after she left.
You sit in the library, biting your nail until it hurts and turn the page; a new habit of yours, one Eloise would be proud of.
You started hiding away to read when everyone went off to live their lives now that the beginning of yours has ended started. You’ve been reading more since your cousins’ departure; it was a tearful morning but you're happy to know she’s out living her life the way she wants.
Then Daphne and Simon left the hall so they could return to their lives in their own home with little Augie.
You've tried to go out with Violet and Lady Danbury, but they preferred to ask when you two would expand your family; safe to say you also hide in here for another reason.
The youngest Bridgerton’s are swept away for their studies as they continue to grow. Francesca and Eloise are nowhere to be found half the time (hence where you got the idea).
You don't know if you'd be able to handle talking to the other two brothers since marrying the eldest. The comments they make at breakfast are enough, going on a walk with them would be too much.
Not that you mind the quiet even if it does get lonely at times.
You push yourself off the ground, placing the book back in its place only now realizing how dark it had gotten and your candle has died, providing little light to guide you; its barely the size of your thumb and the wick is dying the longer you stay here.
You open the door, carefully closing it and wince as the hinges creaking echoes down the hallway. You pause at the sound of footsteps only to hear a familiar girls whisper. "Hyacinth?"
She smiles, "what are you doing here?"
"I was reading."
"In the dark?"
You two glance down at your source of light that died as soon as she mentioned it. "The candles died."
“Can you take me back to my room?”
You smile and nod, “of course I can.” You grab her hand and try to find your way back to the hallway where her room is.
-
“Finally, we found it.” You glance down at her, “I told you, we would.”
She smiles up at you with a sleepy expression. “I knew you would.”
You open the door and get her settled into bed before exiting.
You wonder what it would be like to have your own child and stop. Are you really thinking about what it would be like to have a child when you haven’t seen your husband since your wedding day?
You shake your head and continue down the hallway before turning around, realizing you made a wrong turn; you sigh, leaning against the railing, staring at the ballroom floor.
You remember the first time you arrived at the hall and saw him. You didn’t know why your heartbeat was so fast until your cousin explained it to you.
You wonder if he knows how you feel and if that’s the reason, he’s been avoiding you.
“What are you doing awake at this hour?”
You spin around and find- “Ben!” You cross your arms to cover you.
He smiles, “what are you doing out of bed and away from your husband?”
You take the jacket he offers you, “I’d rather be reading but my candle died- oh no.”
“What?”
“I left it in your sister’s room.”
“Ah, so you’ve seen the whole family other than the one man you should be seeing.”
“Quiet now, Benedict. Unless you want others to know you’ve seen your brother’s wife in her night dress.”
“It wouldn’t be the biggest scandal our family has dealt with.”
You lower your head, rubbing your forehead at his words. “You’re an idiot. I’m going to bed.”
Anthony had a rough night and going to bed was something he desperately needed, maybe seeing your figure laying in our shared bed would make him feel better; he always seems to calm down when his eyes land on you.
That was something he always enjoyed about you whenever you were around.
He stops removing his coat when the door opens, and his brother is behind you while you stay in the doorway with his coat around your shoulders.
His brother takes the item from you and takes his leave before Anthony starts asking questions (not before Benedict gives him a suggestive look).
He doesn’t want to ask- he shouldn’t ask, it’s not his place. “Something I should know about?” He hopes this doesn’t lead to a fight.
“What do you mean?”
“We’re going to pretend as if my brother walking you, my wife, wouldn’t be a scandal if we were elsewhere.”
“Why? Don’t you trust me?” You ask, tired of all the games; him avoiding you and now having an interest in you.
“Do you know how much it affects me?”
An annoyed sigh escapes him, revealing to you how he feels (about the situation and not yourself). “What affects you, sweetheart?”
You ball your fists, “stop calling me that.”
He can’t call you such an endearing name when he hasn’t been acting like your husband. “That is what a husband is supposed to call his wife, is it not? A charming word of endearment for a handsome lady, such as yourself.”
“Stop talking…”
“What else am I to call you? I cannot call you by your name, it would prove-”
“How little we care for each other.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You. I’m talking about you.”
“Me?”
“You are a pest.”
“A pest,” he whispers, finding himself offended.
“You have never once thought of myself in the manner of being one’s wife but yet you act like this.”
“Like what?”
“Like you’re my husband.”
“Am I not?”
You study him. “You want to make a big deal out of this when you’ve been avoiding me since the wedding? Therefore, you are a pest.”
“I- I haven’t- when was I avoiding you?”
“You’re a terrible liar.”
He struggles to remove his coat and you make your way towards him, helping him.
“Your brother found after I helped Hyacinth get back to bed after she found me exiting the library. He didn’t want anyone else to see me in such a… intimidate manner.”
You stare at him through your lashes. “Anything else you want to add? Maybe,” you place his jacket on the back of the chair before taking a seat at the vanity. You start removing the pins and ribbons keeping your hair up, your tiredness hitting you as you prepare for bed.
He sighs, untying his collar. “I wasn’t avoiding, I’ve been… busy.”
“Busy? You’ve been busy?” You undo the sheets, settling onto your side. “I’m going to sleep until you can come up with another excuse on why you’ve been avoiding me.”
“I- believe me when I say I wasn’t avoiding you because I- this isn’t easy.”
You spring up, glaring at him. “And you think this is easy for me?”
“I’m not saying anything about our marriage. I have been,” he pauses, thinking of the right word. “Dealing with personal matters, things you shouldn’t have to worry about because of a mistake I made in the past. I am trying to protect this because I care about you.”
You gulp, “I’m sorry.”
“What was that?”
You roll your eyes, crossing your arms as you stare at the ceiling. “I’m sorry for thinking you were avoiding me but to be fair,” you spring forward, pointing to him. “I- I-“ You struggle to speak as you catch the sight of his bare chest.
He knows what he’s doing to you and his chest warms at the thought of only you being the one to see him in such an intimate way.
You turn away, fiddling with the sheets. “Like I said, I’m sorry for assuming the worst but considering-“ You close your eyes, following the way his lips moved against yours. You push him away, the warmth of his chest lighting a fire within you. “Just because we are married, does not mean you can use your body to change the subject or get me to stop talking about something you don’t want to.”
The corner of his smile twitches before he allows himself to smirk.
You’ve only ever seen him use this expression with his family, never once was it directed at you.
You’re happy tonight ended the way it has, you’re feeling closer to him, learning more of what makes Anthony Bridgerton tick.
-
He closes his eyes, chest heaving with every breath he takes. “I’m here.” He pulls away from you.
Your hand falls at your side.
His figure fades away, leaving you confused.
You burst up, confused as to what your dream means and glance beside you, finding him still asleep. You push yourself out of bed, needing the get away for a moment, sitting in the bench underneath the window.
You stare at the stars, wondering if there was some way, they’d be able to respond to your questions. It’s only been several days since your marriage became official; you still feel as though you’re not and none of is real.
You think back to your first kiss you two shared at the altar and the one you shared before going to bed. Your fingertips brush against your lips, relishing the sensation you felt then as it fills you with something you never thought you’d be able to enjoy.
‘Is this what love is?’ You think, staring at the bright moon, knowing it won’t answer you.
You glance back at him and wonder if he’ll ever love you the way-. You wipe away the stray tear, knowing how much it’d break you if he decided to cheat or leave you entirely.
Your greatest fear was thinking you’d end up alone.
Now you fear he’d be the one to leave you without looking back.
He squints, the moonlight disturbing his slumber. “What are you doing up?”
Your head snaps in his direction. “Hmm?”
He repeats his question, sitting up in bed, his night shirt wrinkled and slipping off his chest.
“I couldn’t sleep,” you tell him, not believing your own words. You crawl back into bed when you notice he won’t fully fall asleep until you’re near.
As soon as you settle onto your side, his breathing evens out.
You lay your head on the pillow, fighting the thoughts you know will keep you awake, feeling you’ll need more sleep than anything.
-
"We need to try for a child."
He glances up from his work. "I didn't realize your mother was in town."
You narrow your eyes to him, something he is truly fond of even if you are upset with him. "I'm going to pretend as if you didn't say that."
You close the door and pace around the floor in front of his desk.
“If you find yourself calm enough to talk, could you repeat what you said when you busted into my office.”
He knows what you said, there's no denying what he's heard but what's got you riled up to bring up such a topic.
The wedding was only three weeks prior, he knows of the idle gossip some of the other women enjoy talking amongst each and he's curious as to who said something.
He's also been trying to keep himself busier than usual to keep him from staying up too late and thinking of performing such acts upon you. He sets his pen down, giving you his full attention. “Why are you asking now?”
“I’m not asking,” you argue.
Is it such a wise idea to try and push for this? Most likely not but you're too upset over the gossip to think logically.
He studies you for a moment, wanting to understand what happened to make you think such a thing.
“What happened? I mean, you and Daphne went out for a walk, right?”
You pause, trying to understand where he’s getting at before nodding.
“Who said something to you?” He raises his brow.
“No one… exactly,” you huff, crossing your arms.
“I know they’re expecting me to be with child by now or at least, in the works of trying for a baby and I don’t want there to be another Whistledown column with either of our names in it. It’s not just my reputation that could be ruined, it could be yours or your family’s this time.”
He can’t help but smile at your kind thoughts. “I appreciate the concern and I’m sure my family would as well, but everything is going to be fine. We don’t need to worry about this.”
You continue having your pity party. “I’m glad you seem to think so.” You furrow your brows, thinking about how he’s avoiding the topic. “Why are you putting this off?”
“Putting what off?”
“You know what I’m talking about, don’t act as coy as your brothers do when asked about their courtships.”
He doesn’t have a way out, does he? A knock on the door alerts him. “I have other business to attend to, I’ll see you at dinner?”
You scoff, “you pretend as if you want me and need me when we are in our shared room but now that we are out in the open you want nothing to do with me? Tell me, are you just using me for your own gain?”
He sighs, “please, can we,” he glances at the door to find his brother. “Talk about this another time?”
You nod, offering a fake smile, “of course, husband.”
His attention turns to you once more, “I thought we weren’t going to have the normal marriage?”
“It seems we were both wrong.” You shrug. “Goodnight, husband.” You yank the door open, rushing past Benedict and the guest without looking back.
Kate smiles watching as you put yourself further away from the one person she wants. “It seems you and your bride are having minor troubles, may I?”
Anthony grits his teeth. “What’s brought you here, to my family’s hall, today?”
Her mischievous smile turns into an evil smirk, “I’ve come to visit an old friend, after all, didn’t you say I was always welcome?”
“That was before you tried to take my family’s fortune and run off.”
She plays with the cuff of his coat sleeve. “If it makes you feel better, I have a husband.”
“Then you should be with him.” He removes her hand from him.
If this had happened a year ago, he would be crawling back into her embrace but now that he has you, the only person that can keep him sane; he’s not going to make that mistake.
He sits down at his desk, rereading the page he was working on when you came in. He knows he’d be stupid if he fell for her tricks once more and ruined your marriage (and family name).
She pouts, not liking the fact that he doesn’t want her anymore.
“Perhaps you should go back to your home. We must clean up for dinner,” Benedict chimes in.
She spins to face the second eldest, “dinner? I’d love to.”
Anthony pushes himself out of the chair. “That’s not an invitation.”
“Why? Are you scared I’m going to ruin your precious marriage? You truly think I’d be harsh to do such a thing?”
“We don’t need to think it if we know.”
She smirks in trump, feeling as though she’s won.
-
You glance at the two with a sinking feeling in your stomach.
Is this the way your marriage is going to end? It took a while before you could remember where you knew her from and as soon as it clicked, you were fidgeting in your seat. Why did he allow her to sit so close to him?
She knows he's a married man and doesn't care. Maybe she thinks the marriage is fake and- you aren't worthy enough to be his wife.
You push the food around on your plate, your appetite forgotten. You remember the rumors about their relationship but could never be proven since she went back to India with her mother but now that she's back, you don't know what to think.
He notices and wishes that she didn't invite herself to join his family tonight.
You ask him about expanding the family line and him avoiding the topic entirely because he doesn't want you to feel as though this is a duty the two of you have to do.
He remembers when you two were first engaged and how you wanted to marry someone who truly loved you rather than someone marrying you out of a convenience.
His heartbeat when you told you should try for a child, he nearly passed out on the spot at the thought of you baring one of his children.
He knows you'd make fantastic mother; he doesn't doubt that in the least but since the wedding day he's realized something he should have a long time ago- something Kate is seeing for herself; he truly loves you.
Nowhere is it near what she thought they had but she's happy that he has someone who cares for him in more ways than she could.
-
She bids her farewells before pulling you to the side. "I apologize for intruding on your family dinner, but I think you should know you have nothing to worry about."
You furrow your brows. "I'm sorry, what-"
She shakes her head. "He loves you in more ways than he ever could care about me. I saw it tonight." She smiles, "all I ask is that you take care of him better than I could. I know you're good for him."
You stare at the door as it closes, unsure if anything that’s just happened is real or if this is a fever dream.
“Are you alright?”
You turn to face your husband and gulp. “Perfectly fine, why do you ask?”
“Did- She didn’t say anything, did she?”
The blank expression from your face falls and is replaced by one of annoyance. “What if she told me something she shouldn’t have? Is there something you wanted her to hide from me?”
He shakes his head, “is it too late to say no?”
You scoff, “you’re an idiot.” You close the door, not caring if it slams shut or not.
He stops it before it closes in his face, “I’m sorry I- it’s not true.”
“Then what is? Why do you care whether she’s told me about yours and her relationship or not? I know about you two. I’ve read the columns and-”
“That’s what I was worried about. I don’t want you to think something that isn’t true happened.” He stands behind the chair in front of your vanity. “I don’t want you think I’m a rake when I’m not, us marrying has changed things-”
“Us getting married is the only reason you’ve changed?”
“No,” he stumbles over his words, something he does more when he’s around you than anyone else he’s ever spoken to. “I-”
You push yourself out of the chair and walk towards the bed. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I keep pushing and I’m sorry but right now, I just want to go to sleep.”
“After you listen to what I have to say.”
“I have not felt the way I do for anyone else. I- no words can come close to what I feel for you.”
His grip tightens on the back of the chair. “I cannot- cannot breathe when you are near.” He catches your gaze, “you drive me insane when you try and argue with me. I don’t understand how you have vexed me and stolen my every thought. When you are here all I can think of is you, when you go out with my sister, you are the one thing on my mind. I- you, you are the bane of my existence, but I can’t seem to keep myself from you.”
You turn around, catching his gaze in the mirror. “Why are you telling me this?”
He spins around, “so you understand why I have changed. It’s not because I don’t care for you. I care too much about you. I have for a long time which is why I was scared when that bee was near you.” He squeezes his eyes shut. “I was terrified I was going to lose you and I didn’t understand why until our marriage.”
“But- that was days ago.”
“Exactly,” he takes a step closer. “I’ve been losing my mind trying not to push you into something you’re not ready for. And then, earlier when you came to me, telling me we should try for a child. I didn’t know what to think.”
“What about Kate?”
He owlishly blinks, trying to understand where you’re coming from. “What about her?”
“You’ve been with women before me and I’ve accepted that, but Kate was here, having dinner with your family. She’s- she’s been around town from what I’ve heard being whispered behind my back. She was here and you didn’t tell me. You- you say that you love me, but I don’t know what to believe when the woman you were in love with, who later broke your heart, returned into your life and you didn’t so much as think to tell me. Benedict was more involved than I was!”
You don’t know why you’re getting so upset over this, it shouldn’t bother you this much since you don’t-
“I didn’t want her to spout lies about me to you and make you think I am not going to be a good husband.” He grabs your hands, “believe me when I say she is not relevant. You are my future.”
Your chest heaves with every breath you take. “How-” Your nose twitches as you purse your lips, collecting your thoughts before you completely explode.
“How what?” He switches between looking into one eye and then the other.
“How could I be blind?”
“To what?”
“I have loved you since I could understand what the word meant and now you- you-” You gesture to your back, “help me with my corset. I cannot breathe.”
He nearly rips your dress off you as he pulls the strings keeping the oxygen from getting into your lungs.
You hang your head, trying to keep your emotions at bay.
“Sweetheart…”
You turn around, pointing at him with wet cheeks. “You have ruined me. You have ruined me for any other man since before my first debutant and have had my heart for just as long and I didn’t know it yet.”
He holds his hand out for you, allowing you to take a step closer to him.
You accept and stand with a few inches between you two. “You have bewitched me from the beginning, if you can accept my foolishness and accept me now, I would happily give myself to you only if you can return the feelings.”
“I wouldn’t be able to survive if I declined your love.”
For the first time since the wedding, the two of you share a genuine kiss and not one where he tries to use his body to distract you. It’s one that makes it feel like the world’s stopped spinning and you two are the only ones in the world.
-
A knock on the door alerts the two of you.
You wince, covering your eyes with your hand before reaching over for him. “Anthony, wake up.”
“I’m coming in and I hope you two are decent.” She groans, “God, you two are naked. Gross.” Mildred complains loudly to whoever stands outside the door with her. “I thought they’d at least have the decency to be awake by now.”
You can hear Benedict’s voice, but it comes out all muffled because you’re not fully awake.
He opens his eyes and turns his head to find your beautiful face lying beside him, hair in disarray on the pillow. His thumb brushes across your cheekbone. “Good morning, Viscountess Bridgerton.”
You find it hard to resist the urge to smile and open your eyes, staring at him with nothing but love and happiness. You hum, brushing back his hair so it doesn’t look as messy, wanting to see more of his handsome face.
“Good morning, Viscount Bridgerton.” You remove your hand from his hair, pulling his hand away from your cheek to peck his palm. “What do you have planned for today?”
“Spending time with my wife, although I do have to say, I don’t think she’d appreciate me lying in bed with someone as breathtaking as yourself.”
You can’t help but smile. “I think if you paid her the same comments you do to me, she’d understand.”
He sucks in air through his teeth, “I don’t know. I think you’d have to meet her to find out the kind of woman she is.”
“I think I know.” You lean against your elbow, meeting him halfway for a morning kiss.
“Would you two hurry up? We have plans. I did not come here on a boat to see you two to stay in bed when I have plans with my cousin. Do you hear me, Bridgerton?”
He sighs, flopping back onto his back. “How could I not?”
You smack his chest before pushing yourself out of bed. “I’ll be ready soon. Go downstairs and wait for me, Millie.”
“If you’re not down here before sunset. I’m leaving.”
You chuckle to yourself. “Okay.”
He pulls you closer to him, hands resting against your waist, slowly wrapping around you. He kisses the exposed parts of your back before pulling you down, kissing along your shoulders.
-
“This cannot be safe.”
“Just because it’s a new corset, doesn’t mean it’s not safe.”
“For the baby.” He ties the strings through the loops. “When can we tell them?”
“When they won’t freak out.”
“Never, okay.”
You chuckle and spin around, placing your hands on his shoulders. “They will know soon. It’ll be fine.”
He stares into your eyes. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“I think that’s my line.”
“Not today.”
You peck his lips before ordering him to tie the corset. “I’ll see you after our walk.”
“Don’t overexert yourself.”
“I won’t. Goodbye, ‘Thony.”
His eyes never left yours as you’re dragged away by your cousin.
Benedict steps inside. “Someone’s happy.”
He shakes his head, ignoring his brother; so happy go feed into the comments.

Why Benophie season is the perfect way to finish the first half of the Bton stories?
Now that Benophie season is unofficially confirmed, I've come to the conclusion that this was the greatest way to end the first half of Bton. It needed to be s4.
In the ton, marriage is about status. And while all Bton marriages are love matches, they are also incredibly beneficial for their position in society. The ENTIRE family's position in society.
Anthony is a viscount, an influential one, but in the nobility hierarchy, he's second to last.
Daphne climbed up 3 steps when she married Simon and became a Duchess.
Francesca will climb one step when she marries John.
Kate didn't have a title or wealth, but a married Viscount is an improvement over a rake Viscount.
Colin is only a Mr., but I will be surprised if the Featherington baby race doesn't end with Pen having a boy who will become Baron. He's going to be the father of a Lord thanks to Penelope.
So you can see how these marriages are extremely beneficial to them and elevate the entire family. Daphne understood this when she said that her marriage would set the prospects for her sisters. Anthony also knew that his choice of viscountess would affect the family.
So, by the time Benedict meets Sophie, the family will have a viscounty + relations with a duchy, an earldom, and a barony. They just need a march to have the full set.
Enter Benedict who will fall in love with a servant AND an illegitimate daughter.
If he marries her, he risks undoing all the work his siblings have done to maintain the family in good standing.
The book doesn't address this, but I wish the show would. It would add another dimension to Benedict's reasons to not marry Sophie. He would be thinking of the family. What would happen to Eloise, Hyacinth, and Gregory? They will no longer be siblings to nobles, they will be related to an illegitimate child and servant. Who will want to marry them? Is it fair to affect their prospects when they haven't even had a chance at society? (Read The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy) Perhaps it hurts the already-married siblings too.
I'm thinking about Ben and Violet's scene. Sophie refuses to be a mistress and Ben has already decided to marry her. But there's still this issue lingering. Is it right to drag the whole family to get what he wants? Wouldn't that be the most selfish thing anyone could do? In the book, Violet says this,
Tumblr media
Imagine if she adds, "and your siblings will support you too."
EDIT: The thing about this scene is that Benedict was ready to leave if the family didn't support him and Sophie.
This is also a great way to bring back the Sharmas' background. Mary was cast out for marrying a clerk, leaving Edwina in an unfavorable position. If the Queen hadn't named her the diamond, it would have been very difficult for her to get a good match. Not to mention that Mary's parents considered hated Kate and insulted her parents for being common people.
You can see why Benedict is afraid of the family's reaction. The Sheffields said that after Mary left, they couldn't show their faces in London for years. He wouldn't want to do that to his family. Sophie wouldn't want that either.
This is why it is so great to have Benophie come in s4. Not that a duchy and a viscount wouldn't have been enough, but this way is much more dramatic and LEGENDARY.
Despite the risks, the family will support Benedict AND Sophie. They'll support her too cause they know her and they love her even before they knew about Ben's feelings.
It's a test, not only for Benedict but for the family.
MORE EDITS:
I also think that Queen Charlotte will hate the Bridgertons after s3. She has been trying to arrange their marriages for 3 seasons, and they have all ignored her and made their matches independently. So, maybe Benedict will be worried because his marriage to Sophie will only worsen the situation.

Reunion Of Sorts-Anthony Bridgerton x Basset!Reader
Tumblr media
(GIF credit to @mrsbridgerton)
Requested by anonymous: ‘Hi! If your requests are open I'd love to request an Anthony Bridgerton x Basset!Reader where the reader's Simon's sister. Prompts 14 and 15 please? Thank you so much, your works are amazing!’
14) 'It's only good news depending on how you look at it.'
15) 'I just wouldn't have expected this!'
Characters: Anthony Bridgerton x Basset!Reader, Simon Basset x Basset!Reader (siblings), Daphne Bridgerton x Reader (platonic), mentions of Bridgerton family
Meanings: (Y/N)=Your name
Warnings: Just extreme fluff!
                                            *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Are you quite alright, (Y/N)?" Simon asked his sister as they journeyed in their carriage.
(Y/N) had started fanning herself a little faster."I don't know why I'm so nervous. I just hope to make a good impression."
"Of course you will. I'm sorry you haven't met them sooner."
"I could have at least met your wife at the wedding, if I had been invited."
"We have been through this, (Y/N)."
"Yes, and I'm not trying to argue with you, Simon. I know you married in haste, and I know why, but you must admit, you've left this far too long. You have a son now!"
"You have been cooped up in that house with your matron as father intended. I think she would have had my head if I tried to get you out of there."
They laughed together.
"Simon?"
"Hm?"
"I am very excited to meet your wife and my nephew."
As usual, the Bridgerton house was abuzz with excitement and chaos. Eloise didn't understand why she had to dress up so much for this visit, Gregory and Hyacinth were bombarding everyone with questions about Simon's sister, Colin and Benedict tried but failed to escape the madness, Anthony watched everything unfold and Daphne nervously bounced her baby boy on her knee.
"Daphne, do not fret. His sister will love you." Anthony tried to reassure his sister.
"What if she's like their father? What if she heard all the rumours about us and judges me for it? Simon has never spoken of her, I have no idea what to expect."
"I met Simon's sister many, many years ago. She was nothing like the things you are dreading. (Y/N) was a lovely, respectable young lady, I'm sure she hasn't changed."
Daphne let a small smile grace her face, trying to convince herself that everything was fine. Simon had kept his family such a secret, she just wanted to ensure that his sister would want to stay and be part of theirs.
Simon playfully rolled his eyes as (Y/N) asked how she looked, not in vain, but in anxiety. Her dress was beautiful, her hair perfectly in place, her jewels glistened but they weren't ghastly, nothing was wrong. Her nerves were getting the better of her. Just as she was about to ask again, the carriage stopped. Simon chuckled at her panicked look, already stepping outside.
He held out his hand for her."You'll be absolutely fine. Just be you."
(Y/N) took a deep breath before taking her brother's hand, being extra cautious to not fall on her face, especially since the entire Bridgerton family were stood on their front steps.
As head of the household, Anthony was ready to start introductions, until (Y/N) lifted her head, showing her dazzling features. He had only admitted to himself that he had a fancy for her when he was younger, though who wouldn't? She was beautiful, smart and didn't try hard to impress anyone; she was just joyful to be around. (Y/N) had never pined for Anthony or tried to grab his attention at every moment, or any man for that matter. He definitely considered her a friend, he was somewhat angry at himself he hadn't written to her over the years. But seeing her now, it was a mystery as to why she hadn't been married yet? That was quickly solved when he remembered Simon was her brother.
Simon stuck beside his sister until Daphne stepped forward. They shared a short but loving kiss, before Simon took their son into his arms, cooing and laughing as the baby gurgled. (Y/N)'s heart melted at the sight.
"Oh, how we've missed you." Violet beamed, greeting her son-in-law.
"I apologise for the delay, the weather was not suitable for travelling. Nevertheless, everyone, this is my sister, (Y/N) Basset."
(Y/N) curtsied as all eyes were on her."Thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful home. I have been so excited to meet you all."
"Well, why don't we go inside? We can have proper introductions in the warm." Daphne hid her nerves, presenting herself well.
Everyone agreed, leading (Y/N) inside. The family lined up like soldiers, with Anthony stepping forward to introduce everyone.
"I hope I don't have to reintroduce myself." he teased.
"Of course not, how could I forget you, Anthony? After all the trouble you and Simon got into?"
He chuckled, but cast a worried look towards his mother. He quickly continued.
"My mother, Violet, sisters Daphne, Eloise and Hyacinth, and my brothers, Benedict, Colin and Gregory."
"And your nephew." Simon added.
(Y/N) reached out a finger for the baby to hold."Yes, he's bigger than I thought he would be."
"Children do grow so fast." Violet said.
"But you're here now to see him grow." Daphne quickly added. "And we're all very happy that you're finally here."
Everyone knew that it was Simon who had kept (Y/N) away. He loved his sister with all his heart, which is why he never saw her; she was living a happy life, he didn't want to dampen that.
"The chefs have prepared a marvelous lunch. The table is all set if you are hungry now?" Voilet asked.
"Oh, yes, as long as everyone else is."
As soon as (Y/N) agreed, Colin, Eloise and the two youngest were off. They were starving, even though they had eaten only a few hours ago. (Y/N) giggled to the relief of the others. They slowly followed behind, but Simon was hesitant. (Y/N) gently nudged him forward.
"Go, see your family. I have all the time in the world to get to know Daphne."
Simon thanked her, still carrying his son as his other arm wrapped around his wife. Another arm appeared in front of (Y/N), ready for her to take it.
"May I escort you to the table?" Anthony said.
"Thank you, I much appreciate it."
They both knew they were being dramatic, though it was sweet of Anthony to make the gesture.
"How many years has it been?"
"Too many."
"I'm sorry your brother hasn't involved you. If the...situation between him and Daphne had been different, I know you would have been here straight away."
"I know. And I understand how stressful that all was. But as said before, I'm here now. I must say Anthony, I have missed you."
"Really? Even after all those times Simon and I riled you?"
"Yes. Although annoying, you both had your tender moments. I remember one evening, you and Simon were returning from your club, and you both had found yourselves in a quarrel with some other members. They followed you home, and I was waiting by the back gate to sneak you back inside. They were closer than expected, and do you remember some of the horrible things they said to me?"
"Unfortunately I do. And I unfortunately remember what happened next."
"It was very chivalrous for you to defend me, though you needn't have fought. Your nose wouldn't stop bleeding!"
"But you were right by my side, holding a handkerchief for me."
"Yes, because if you got blood on the carpets, you would have something worse than a bruised nose."
The pair were laughing to themselves as they walked into the dining room. Most were already seated. Anthony guided (Y/N) to her chair, next to Simon, who stood to tuck it in, but Anthony beat him to it. Simon watched his friend's moves very closely, knowing deep down that Anthony was just being polite; however, he wasn't too fond that they were sat opposite each other, able to gaze into each others eyes.
Simon tapped his glass with a knife once everyone was sat, standing with said glass in his hand."Before we begin eating, I would like to propose a toast."
Everyone immediately grabbed their own glasses, except Eloise, taking her time as she huffed; couldn't they at least toast after the meal?
"To my sister, (Y/N). I am so happy that you're here with me, with us. I'm sorry I haven't been a better brother but that will change now. And I can't wait for you to get to know this loving family, who made me one of their own, as I know they will you."
"To family." Benedict finished.
"To family." Everyone cheered.
"Now the food. Please." Eloise needed a plate in front of her.
All through lunch, Simon kept a close eye on his sister and Anthony. He was awful at keeping up with conversations, slow at eating, he just had a weird feeling when he glanced at them both. Simon constantly apologised to Daphne, blaming the long journey for his daydreaming.
However, Anthony and (Y/N) might as well have been dining at their own table. They were in full conversation, of course others chimed in to join, but they couldn't stop reflecting on the past and laughing. It was impossible to not notice how well they were getting along, and Violet had a glint in her eye as she saw how much Anthony was smiling. He never smiled this much, and the way he was looking at (Y/N) reminded her of how her husband used to look at her.
After dinner, they retired to the drawing room, sipping on fresh lemonade as Hyacinth showed off her new skill on the piano. Simon sat with his child in his lap, Daphne by his side, and although he was thoroughly enjoying the time with his family, he couldn't stop gazing over at his sister.
Unsurprisingly, (Y/N) and Anthony were cosied up, still smiling ear to ear as they continued talking. How could they have so much to talk about?
"Let's put him to bed Simon, for a nap. He's getting fussy." Daphne interrupted his thoughts.
Simon didn't want to cause a scene, agreeing to put their son down together. Even as they left the room, Simon's eyes lingered, and he immediately became tense once they were out of sight.
"Has my brother dazzled you?"
Simon was quiet as he laid down his son."Hm?"
"Well you haven't stopped staring at him all night."
He sighed."Was I that obvious?"
"You were indeed. Would it be so bad?"
"What?"
"Would it be so bad if my brother loved your sister?"
"Daphne-"
"Has he been disrespectful? Has he done her wrong? Has he done anything that we did?"
He was stumped. Although his brotherly instincts were kicking in, wanting to protect (Y/N), realistically he knew Anthony would never hurt her. Anthony was trustworthy, he knew him inside out and just from tonight, there was something there.
Simon didn't reply, but Daphne knew he wasn't ignoring her. She could see him thinking it all over as he walked to the window.
"It's only good news depending on how you look at it."
"I know, but it will be fine-"
"No, look!"
Daphne quickly joined her husband at the window, trying to see what he was looking at. Down in the gardens was Anthony and (Y/N) taking a stroll. The pair were lit by the setting sun which was casting a beautiful orange and pink glow across the garden. Although they had not stopped talking through the afternoon, now they were silent, both silently worrying that the other had no more to say.
"(Y/N)-"
"Anthony-"
The spoke at the same time, pausing for a moment before laughing. Anthony said nothing, being a gentleman and letting (Y/N) speak.
"I was just going to say how much I have enjoyed our time together. It feels as if no time has passed since the last time I saw you."
"How long will you stay?"
"Sorry?"
"Well, are you staying for a short visit? Or perhaps an extended time?"
"Simon and I have not discussed that as of yet. I am to be staying with a friend of mine who lives in the Ton, so I shall be here for a little while."
Anthony couldn't help but smile."Good, that is good news."
They were quiet again as they continued walking, only taking small steps as they wee nearing the end of the garden. They were standing close to one another, and although they had linked arms before and been sat on the plush sofas, this held more tension. Perhaps it was the way neither of them wanted to startle the other, despite their desperate want for affection. As their minds drifted off to where this was leading, their hands ever so delicately brushed. Both were startled, halting their steps and looking at each other.
"My apologies-"
"Anthony, it's fine. I...I just wouldn't have expected this."
Anthony thought for a moment, glancing down at their hands that were no longer close. He didn't like it. He wanted to be bold and take the next step, even if it was just holding one another's hand. But this was Simon Basset's sister. And it was (Y/N), who he had the upmost respect for.
"Miss Basset?"
"Anthony, why are you calling me that?"
"May I enquire into the address of your new lodgings?"
"Yes? Why?"
"So that I may call on you in the morning?"

Calling Out to You
Tumblr media
Summary: You reconnect with an old friend during the Season, but the young Viscount is not the same as the boy you grew up with.  Requested by @junevoidzombie
Warnings: Description of injuries, minor character death, period misogyny, Anthony being difficult
~
“Help!” you called, starting to panic as the evening air grew cooler and the forest grew dimmer.  You sniffled and wiped your nose on the sleeve of your dress; your mama was going to be so angry, but the dress was ruined now anyways.  “Is anybody out here?” you cried.
You heard a twig snapping in the distance, and your head snapped up.  You let out a pitiful hiccup, but you finally stopped your incessant blubbering.  You waited a few more moments, hoping the sound would come closer, but it didn’t.  It must have been an animal, you thought.
“Who’s there?” a voice called.  It didn’t sound particularly friendly, but any help was better than staying out here.
“My name is (Y/N)!” you called back.  “I tripped and now I fear I have sprained my ankle.”
“Hold on.  I shall be there in a moment, miss,” the voice called back, this time slightly closer.
In less than a minute, a figure started to take form in the growing darkness.  As he grew closer, you realized that he was younger than you were expecting - perhaps only three years older than yourself.  He had the most beautiful dark hair and eyes, though, and you became conscious of the horrible disarray you were currently in.
He knelt beside you.  “I know you said your ankle is injured; is there any way you think you can stand on it, with my assistance?”
You shook your head.  “I have already tried, sir.”
“Anthony,” he interrupted.  He cleared his throat.  “You must call me Anthony, miss.”
Your face lit up with a smile.  “Then you must call me (Y/N), Anthony.  My family just moved here from Hertfordshire.  We now live at Turring Manor, and I was exploring the country when I fell.”
He smiled back shyly.  “Well, it would most likely be easier to carry you to my family’s home.  It is much closer than Turring Manor, and the sun is already setting.”
“That would be most appreciated, Anthony.  Thank you!” you replied eagerly.
The next thing you knew, Anthony was lifting you off of the ground, being extra careful to not jostle your hurt leg too much.  Once you were off of the ground, however, Anthony looked at you while a blush crept across his cheeks.  “Um, it might be easier to walk if you put your arms around me as well.  I wouldn’t want your leg to pain you more than necessary,” he mumbled, clearly embarrassed.
“Very well,” you whispered.  You couldn’t help your own blush as you did as he asked you.  Once that was done, he set off in the direction he had come from.
~
“Anthony, there you are darling!  Wherever have you been?”  A very beautiful woman came down the steps as you approached the very impressive home.  It must be Anthony’s mother; the resemblance was uncanny.
“I am sorry I am late, mother, but our new neighbor fell in our woods and could not walk home,” Anthony explained.
The lady’s eyes finally fell on you and concern filled them.  “Oh, you poor thing,” she cried.  “Anthony, bring her up to the yellow bedchamber.  I shall have the maids draw a bath and bring her something to eat.”
Anthony’s mother sprung into action, and before you knew it, you were being laid upon a soft bed and Anthony was being shooed out of the room.  After a luxurious bath, you were given a silk nightgown borrowed from one of Anthony’s sisters.
Said sisters (at least two of them - you had heard there was at least one more) came to keep you company before it was time to go to bed.  You could tell you all would become fast friends although the two girls were as different as could be.  Daphne was content to stay and practice piano while Eloise was always ready for an adventure.  Life would certainly not be dull living so close to Aubrey Hall.
“So Anthony really carried you all the way from the woods because you fell?” Daphne questioned as you explained what had happened that day.
“Yes, he did.  I couldn’t be more grateful; my parents would have been worried sick if they had not heard from me,” you said.
Daphne sighed, a dreamy look taking over her features.  “That is so romantic.  Like a knight rescuing the princess in the stories papa tells us.  Right, Eloise?” Daphne gushed.
Eloise rolled her eyes at her older sister’s antics.  “Anthony is hardly a knight in shining armor, Daphne.  You are being silly,” Eloise retorted.
Seeing how a fight was about to break out, you said, “He may not be a knight of olde but he certainly rescued me today.”
Eloise and Daphne looked at each other, slow smiles growing on each of their faces, making you nervous.  “Do you love our brother, (Y/N)?” they squealed in unison.
“What?  Of course not!  We just met!” you protested, but the butterflies flying in your stomach told a different story.
~
“Anthony!  You and Benedict - and Colin if he can behave himself and not eat all the biscuits - must come to my tea party this afternoon,” Daphne decreed at the breakfast table.  Her proclamation was met with several groans and one small protest of “Hey!”
Anthony scowled at his younger sister.  “Tea parties are for girls, Daphne.  Besides, I have a shooting lesson this afternoon,” he said.
Daphne beamed despite the implied insult.  “No you don’t!  I already asked papa, and he has rescheduled your lesson.  He hopes to join us for a bit after his meeting with Lord Aberly,” she said primly.  Her eyes glimmered with a spark of mischief.  “(Y/N) shall also be there,” she added in a sing-song voice.
“Fine, we shall attend your tea party.”
“Oh, come on, Anthony!  Why did you have to accept for the both of us?”
~
“Are you excited for the new baby, Ant?” you asked as you strolled in Aubrey Hall’s garden.
He shrugged, making his broadening shoulders fill his jacket even more.  He had changed so much in the year he had been away at university, but he was still the same Anthony, thank goodness.  “I suppose.  It is always nice to welcome a new sibling, but the novelty has worn off.  Each baby is just like the last,” he chuckled.
You slapped his arm playfully, giggling as well.  “How could you say that, Anthony?” you scolded.  “Are you going to think that of your own children as well?”
You thought you saw his eyes flicker over your form with a strange expression in them, but it must have been a trick of the light for when his eyes returned to yours they were his normal welcoming brown.
“No, I shall probably become as tender-hearted as my father when each babe is welcomed.  And dote on my wife for bringing such a miracle into the world,” he replied, that funny trick of the light occurring again and making your stomach inexplicably flip.
~
His father knelt to gather flowers for his mother, prompting Anthony to do the same.  “I shall gather some for (Y/N).  She was just admiring these daffodils the other day,” he spoke as he used his pocket knife to cut the loveliest blooms.  “I believe I will do as you suggested and ask her -”
A thump behind him interrupted him.
“Father?  Father!”
~
“Papa has inherited a piece of land in Scotland.  We are leaving within the week to go there.”  You stood in the door of what was now Anthony’s study.  He looked so small and lost sitting there, his late father’s portrait above him.
He nodded his head briefly before looking back down at the papers before him that required his attention.  “I shall see you when you return then.  Safe travels,” he spoke in a clipped tone.
“You don’t understand.  We are renting out Turring Manor and moving to Scotland.”
His head snapped up at this, but his eyes were distant and cold, his jaw set.  There was a pregnant pause before he spoke, “Then I wish you all the best, Miss (Y/L/N).  May God be with you.”
His terse farewell cut you like a knife.  You swallowed the lump in your throat.  “And with you, Lord Bridgerton.”
You fled the house before anyone could see your tears fall.
~
Anthony was in the middle of his set with Miss Sherwood when there was a commotion at the entrance to the ballroom.  He looked to see a family enter, but they were blocked from his seeing their faces.  Accepting defeat, he tipped the corners of his lips up in what Miss Sherwood would know as a fond smile as he resumed their dance, forgetting the interruption entirely as the dance came to an end.
“Brother!  How was your dance with the lovely Miss Sherwood?” Benedict clapped him on the back and handed him a glass of punch as he joined him near the terrace doors.
He sighed, letting his austere Viscount visage fade just enough for Benedict to see how tired his brother was.  “She is well-spoken and graceful.”  He looked away from his brother and out towards the crowd.  “She shall make a wonderful Viscountess.”
Benedict’s eyes softened but Anthony refused to look at him.  “Will that be enough for you, Brother?  A wife and a mother to your children?”
Anthony fixed a glare on Benedict that would have made a lesser man shrink back and admit defeat.  “Isn’t that the point of the institution?  I shall gain an heir and somebody to take care of my households while I provide her with a name and protection from material poverty.”
“Some might add love into that mission statement,” Benedict said with a hint of sarcasm.
Anthony paused, but his mind was more made up than ever.  “I gave that notion up a long time ago, Brother.  Love brings nothing but heartache,” he spoke, his voice devoid of any emotion.
The brother’s staring contest was broken by a familiar voice.  “Lord Bridgerton, Mr. Bridgerton.”
The tall, dark haired men bowed.  “Lady Danbury, how do you do?”  Benedict took on the lion’s share of the social niceties as Anthony still had that far off look in his eyes.  He was not attending to the conversation at all, but Lady Danbury did not grow offended at his slight.
“Very well, Mr. Bridgerton.  I wanted to introduce you both to someone.  Her family has just moved back from Scotland - just in time for the season,” Lady Danbury continued, bringing you forward.
“(Y/N)!” Benedict cried, grabbing your hand to place a kiss onto your glove.
Lady Danbury raised an eyebrow in surprise, but her eyes were calculating.  “So you two know each other?”
“Miss (Y/L/N)’s family used to be our neighbors.  We spent many a day together before they moved away,” Benedict explained.  You were glad for it as your tongue was tied.
“That is wonderful.  Then you two can help me introduce Miss (Y/L/N) to some other members of the Ton,” Lady Danbury smiled but fixed her eagle gaze on Anthony who had broken out of his stupor enough to gaze open-mouthed at you.  “Her family would like to see her settled.”
Benedict’s easy smile flashed.  “That will not be so hard a task for one as lovely as you, Miss (Y/L/N).”
You smiled wryly.  “It may become a little more challenging when people hear this is by no means my first season out,” you spoke, with that familiar teasing lilt to your voice.
“Nonsense.”  Your head snapped up at the almost angry outburst from the Viscount.  He cleared his throat.  “Many men will find you to be all the more acceptable for your age,” he said.
You smiled and Anthony made the mistake of looking at you - really looking at you - this time.  “You are right, my lord.  Many bachelors will be looking to find a wife before they themselves enter their dotage,” you teased, making Benedict laugh.
Anthony could not recover himself fast enough  - perhaps tell you that were more beautiful than the day you left - before Benedict was offering you his hand and leading you towards the dance floor.
~
“Miss (Y/L/N), may I have your next set?” Anthony intercepted you the moment Benedict led you off the dance floor.  He was spinning his signet ring on his pinkie finger.
“Of course, my lord,” you spoke even as he was already grasping your hand and leading you back onto the floor.
You spent half of the set in silence.  You could tell even after all these years when Anthony needed time to think.  You focused on the steps of the waltz and actively tried to ignore how it felt to be in his arms.
“How was Scotland?” Anthony finally broke the silence.
You blinked, startled.  “It is a most beautiful country, my lord,” you replied.
He nodded.  “Were there no eligible gentlemen there?”
Your brow furrowed.  “Of course there were many,” you sputtered.
“Why did you not wed then?”  The interrogation continued.
Your nostrils flared with your temper.  “I do not believe that is any of your business, my lord,” you stated, a hint of anger behind your words.  “I could say the same for you.”
“Yes, but I am a man; it is different.”
You scoffed, drawing the attention of some onlookers.  “Yes, I suppose it is.  I am but a woman.  Therefore my only purpose is to wed and have babies.”  You stopped dancing and broke out of his grasp.  You stood with your fists clenched at your sides.  “I heard you when you were near the terrace, my lord.  I cannot countenance how much you have changed.”
He watched in equal parts anger and despair as you walked away from him and out the doors.
~
“Mama, what are these?”  You fingered the petals of the daffodils that had been arranged in a beautiful bouquet.
“They must be from a potential suitor who saw how gracefully you danced with Benedict last night,” she replied, still not daring to mention the scene you had caused when you had stormed away from Anthony.  “There is most likely a card in them, peach.”
There was indeed.  You opened it to find a familiar neat hand.
I remembered these were your favourites, is all it read.
You closed the card and slipped it into your pocket.  “They are just from Lord Bridgerton.  An apology for our row.”
You purposely did not meet your mother’s eye so as not to see the look of disappointment that overtook her features.
~
“Who is that walking with Lady Danbury?”
“That is Miss (Y/L/N),” Benedict quickly informed the fair-haired earl he and Anthony had been walking with along with Miss Sherwood.  “Would you like me to introduce you both?  She is an old friend of our family.”
“Oh, yes, Mr. Bridgerton, that would be delightful!” Miss Sherwood cried.  “Wouldn’t it be, Lord Bridgerton?”
Anthony nodded, his lips pressed in a thin line.  “Most delightful.”
You and Lady Danbury had already come upon the group, and you paused.  “Miss (Y/L/N), you must allow me to introduce my good friend Lord James Thatcher, the Earl of Wembey and Miss Sherwood of Bath.”
You curtsied politely to the both of them.  “It is a pleasure to meet you both,” you said smoothly, years of good breeding taking over as your mind reeled.  So this was the Miss Sherwood that he had spoken of.
“Miss (Y/L/N), would you care to join me on a small boat ride on the lake?  It is the perfect weather for it,” Lord Wembey addressed you directly, startling you.  You could feel Lady Danbury’s gaze on you.
“That would be most lovely, my lord,” you spoke as you took his proffered arm.
~
“Lord Wembey has invited us to attend the theater tonight with him in his box.  Is that not lovely, my dear?” your mama crowed.  This would not be the first time the handsome earl had singled you out in his attentions.  They had become quite marked indeed.
“That is wonderful, mama,” you replied, not looking up from your needlework.  “Shall I wear the yellow silk, do you think?”  And the conversation turned back to fashion plates and fripperies.
~
The pall mall ball soared into the air - straight into the woods and definitely nowhere near the intended target.  You were never good at pall mall, but what you lacked in talent you made up for in enthusiasm.  And the annual tournament was no exception - especially since it was your first after returning.
“I suppose (Y/N) must return to the woods,” Eloise teased.  “Hopefully you do not need to rescue her this time, Anthony.”
“Rescue her?  Whatever do you mean, Miss Bridgerton?” Miss Sherwood asked.
You and Anthony both opened your mouths to explain, but Benedict beat you to it.  “Many years ago, Miss (Y/L/N) was walking in our woods when she injured herself.  Luckily for her, though, Anthony was there to help her home.”
“Oh, how wonderful!  It was like fate brought you together,” Miss Sherwood gushed, just as Daphne had all those years ago.
Anthony cleared his throat and brushed his free hand down his pant leg, trying to dislodge an imaginary piece of lint.  “Yes, well, it was a very long time ago, and I am sure the memory has been distorted until it seems much loftier than it is,” he spoke, more harshly than he meant in his flustered state.  “Shall we play on?  I believe it was your turn, Miss Sherwood.”
~
“I have noticed Lord Wembey and (Y/N) are spending a great deal of time together, Brother,” Daphne spoke as she entered Anthony’s study.
“Have they?  I have not really noticed,” Anthony spoke with a clenched jaw, his pen arrested in mid air where it dropped a rogue dot of ink on the otherwise pristine page.
Daphne tilted her head and pursed her lips - a look she had perfected from childhood.  “I find that hard to believe, Brother.  Everyone expects him to propose - perhaps even tonight at mama’s ball,” she said.  She huffed lightly as Anthony still did not look up from his work.  “And people are also wondering why you have not proposed to Miss Sherwood yet.
Anthony finally set down his pen and looked at her.  “How are those two connected, Sister?” he ground out.
Daphne did not break eye contact.  “Some people are saying that you have not proposed to Miss Sherwood because you hold a tendre for (Y/N),” she explained.
“Why would I care about the words of gossips?”  Anthony growled.
Daphne leaned forward, her face set just as hard as his.  “You may not care, but if you do not fix this, you could inadvertently tarnish (Y/N)’s reputation and ruin her chances at an excellent match.”
Daphne made her way back towards the corridor.  “Maybe think about that, Brother,” she said before she shut the door behind her.
~
You rode fast and hard, uncaring of anything but getting away.  You did not even care that the skies looked as if they would open up at any second and flood the ground beneath you.  It would only be too fitting for your mood.
Another one.
You had rejected another perfectly suitable gentleman.
What was wrong with you?  Lord Wembey was everything you were looking for in a husband.  He was young, titled, wealthy beyond measure, kind hearted, well-read.  He could do with some darker hair, but that was beyond his control.
You drew your horse up short at that thought.  Were you seriously comparing Lord Wembey to Anthony - yes, for he was still Anthony in your thoughts - and finding Lord Wembey wanting?
You breathed heavily as that thought washed over you, and you wanted to scream.
As if your thoughts had summoned him, Anthony appeared on horseback.  He cut an even more impressive figure than he used to, but that was no wonder.  His eyes locked on you, and he turned his horse to meet yours.
And you fled.
You could feel him following you, his better knowledge of the ground and larger steed allowing him to gain ground rapidly.  You could feel the promised rain start to pummel your back, but you pushed your horse faster.  Eating up ground faster than you could see it as your vision was blurred with rain and tears.
“(Y/N), watch out!” were the last words you heard before your body slammed into the ground.
~
You opened your eyes to see it was already light in your bedroom.  Your mother sat beside you.  “Mama?” you rasped, wincing at how it made your head ache.
The lines on your mother’s face smoothed as she looked at you, before promptly starting to sob.  “Oh, you are awake!  We thought we had lost you forever!”
You scrunched your forehead as you tried to sit up.  You were immediately assisted by two maids.  “What happened, mama?”
“Oh, you would have been lost without him!  Going out for a ride in horrific weather, what were you thinking?” your mother was working up into one of her fits of hysteria.
“Mama!” you broke her off.  “Lost without whom?”
“Oh, Anthony, of course!  He saw you get thrown from your horse, and he carried you all the way back on his.  He personally saw that the doctor was fetched, too, wonderful boy,” she gushed.
You fiddled with the comforter, unsure of what to say.
There was a knock on the door. You turned your head to see Anthony standing there, fidgeting with his signet ring just as he did in the days immediately following his father’s death.
“I shall leave you two to have a moment of privacy,” your mother whispered as she stood.
You attempted to reach out to her, stop her, but she was too quick.  She beckoned the two maids to follow her but left the door open for propriety’s sake.
Anthony did not move from his position near the door even after your mother vacated the room.  The air felt heavy, and you were finding it hard to breathe.  You smoothed the bedcovers although they were practically perfect.
“I am so relieved you are awake,” Anthony croaked, his voice raspy with disuse.
You steadfastly continued your study of the linens.  “I am told I have you to thank for that, my lord.”  You congratulated yourself on keeping your tone even.
“Will you stop that?” Anthony’s tone was sharp, and you finally looked at him fully.  His face was drawn, and it was clear he had not shaved in a few days.
“Stop what, my lord?” you asked, genuinely confused.
He walked towards your bed, his face red.  “Calling me that,” he practically spat.
You scoffed, not believing he was truly acting so childish.  “Well, it is your title.  It would be improper for me not to -”
“Marry me, then.”
You must have hit your head harder than you thought for you were certainly hearing things.  “What?” you breathed.
Anthony knelt at your side and took your hand tenderly in his.  “Marry me, (Y/N), please,” he implored.  He shook his head.  “I should have asked you ten years ago, but I thought I could prevent my heart from breaking by not letting it be touched.”  His gaze fell on your joined hands.  He cleared his throat.  “I was a fool.  I disregarded the fact that it had already been stolen from me.”
His warm brown orbs found yours, and you felt your heart climb into your throat.  You took a rattling breath as your eyes stung with tears.
“Anthony…” you breathed.
No further words were needed as your lips joined in the kiss you had always been waiting for.
