Midwest Monday!
How each (Midwestern) state responds to scam calls
Illinois: Abruptly hanging up the phone. He doesn’t have time, patience, energy, or will to deal with this. As a kid he might have played along, giving a fake name like "Mr. Hugh Wang-Kerr"; as a teen he would have made threats to the spammer, but as an adult he likes to keep the line free for business opportunities and ladies in strapless dresses (for some reason, though, they never keep the line free for him…)
Indiana: Specifically answers to say "what do you want" and hangs up. Sometimes does this while driving. It’s quite concerning to those who share the road with her. Everyone wonders why she picks up if she knows she’s going to be hanging up within two seconds, but nobody has ever asked her directly why she does this. Indiana's response to scammers is an enigma and— INDI KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!
Iowa: WHAT? HUH?! He'll call you back, he says — and by that he means meet him at the Flying J later if you have something to say to him. He might be a strapping and toned young man — the type you’d think is attractive until you get close enough to smell that True Farmer Boy Whiff — but he’s an old boomer in terms of technology. He owns a LG 5450 for "business calls" and an iPhone 5 because his friends begged him to get a real phone, yet his monthly screen time is about forty two seconds.
Kansas: How do these people keep getting her number? She once took her grievances directly to the cell phone tower, but that wasn’t resolved the way she wanted it to be resolved. Kansas has a very communal way of fixing her scam call woes: If there’s anyone around her in the vicinity, she’s all up in their face. "Hey, do you know anything about how to get rid of these dang calls? Is there, like, a button I press or somethin'?" Oklahoma once told her to chuck it into a tornado. They haven’t spoken as of late.
Michigan: Are you calling about getting your car fixed by him? He’s told you a thousand times, these new cars and their computers have got to go. Oh, you’re not? Well, why are you bothering him? "We've called you about your car's extended warranty—" Oh have you? Have you now? Nah. He’s not buying it. Get off the line right this second or else he'll reach so far under your hood that you’ll be seeing via LIDAR until Teslas are reliable.
Minnesota: Poor Minnesota, easily flustered and not one to Karen around. Half the time, she’s not sure if it’s a scam call of if it’s genuine, and she doesn’t want to be too quick to judge. She'll sit there on the line for a couple of minutes to really gauge the situation, adding in a few "uh-huhs" and "mmms" until the time is right. Then — ope! There’s someone at the door! — or, — ope! My casserole is ready". Half the time, it’s not even a lie!
Missouri: The good thing about Missouri is that he likes good, cheap, reliable things — cell phones included. He has a Sonim XP8, meaning that every time a scammer (and this extends to tax collectors, insurance agents, and Oklahoma — "Seriously, Okie, go bother someone else!" —) gives him a ring, he just throws his phone at the nearest wall and picks it up after it’s stopped ringing. Concerned? Don’t be. The Sonim is designed for that type of treatment. There’s no point in buying something if you can’t huck it.
Nebraska: When she got her first scam call, Nebraska was quite surprised — she was under the impression that this sort of thing would never happen to her! She ushered over Minnesota, who begged her to be kind (oh, Minnesota — the trouble you go through), but Nebraska had heard too much about funny responses to scammers and wanted to try some out on her own. From inventing fake and morbid businesses to pretending to be in the mafia, Nebraska has demonstrated quite the creative streak when it comes to answering scam calls.
North Dakota: He doesn’t give much thought to the matter. He barely answers these calls. Sometimes it’s a one word "no" or a two word "go away", but NoDak works in silence when it comes to scam calls. Why give it time or energy?
Ohio: Aww, yeah! It’s his time to shine! He acts as though he’s in a Broadway musical or an award-winning Hollywood hit. He doesn’t want the fame and fortune that this career demands — no, he just wants the feeling of pride and superiority he gets from completely destroying the competition. He’s mustered up some quite imaginative responses to scam calls, and has concerned quite a few of the callers. His insurance company isn’t too happy with him, because he took it a step further and started doing it to them, too. Good thing they’ve got a lawyer…
South Dakota: Like Ohio and Nebraska, he has quite the enthusiasm to answer in funny and offbeat ways, but unfortunately, he’s got a brother to the north to put some sense into him. "No, SoDak, don’t answer the phone." "No, you’re not being stupid today." Dang it, NoDak, why do you have to steal his thunder? Can’t a state do anything fun? Saying funny things to scam callers isn’t even illegal this time!
Wisconsin: What's that? Wisconsin, pick up the phone! Or is she busy again, screaming over some sports game. What game could she even be this enthusiastic over? Does she even have any major sports teams? Regardless, that phone is not getting answered in a timely manner. Does she even hear it? Wisconsin? Wisconsin, we've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty! Wisconsin! Wisconsin! Nothing. Damn.

I’ve been thinking about fashion and
Tumblr media
This is such a Midwest girls vibe to me
(Left to right) Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana is how I’d dress them
I love the idea of all the female states with their hair done up (or done down) and wearing flower patterns it’s so cute to me
And then with the 70s being bolder with fashion and just having fun
Maybe it’s because of the casualness of it and the social revival going on, but 60s (and 70s) fashion just has such a happy vibe to me and I love to see it
This is more of the 70s but
Tumblr media
(Left to right) N. Carolina, S. Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee is how I’d dress them
Like look at how gorgeous and fun yet elegant their silhouettes are that’s so awesome

Alfred Home Headcanons
Tumblr media
We see Alfred with quite a few houses throughout the series so I think it’s fair to say the man gets around and lives all across the country. It was difficult pinning down just a few for this post and even more so for the photos to go alongside it.
I’m going to be narrowing things down to regions of the United States but I think this man has at least one home in every state. We’ll be here a lifetime if I had to describe his home in Ohio vs Indiana.
We’ll start with New England.
His oldest homes are located here, the most noteworthy is his white colonial home in Massachusetts just outside of Boston overlooking the bay. This is the one he was raised in for a large part of his youth under Arthur’s care and tutorage. Think of the house that we see in the episode of America’s Storage Room Cleaning with the wrap-around porch and expansive garden. It’s an honestly massive home for just one person to be living in. During the mid to late 1800′s when people like Lovino, Tolys, and Morgan came to work in the United States, this was the main residence that Alfred lived with them in. Finally felt a little less lonely.
I think Cape Cod or Georgian is the best fit for the style of house in this region, like, to be more specific.
Traditional accents rather than it being the main focus.
Similarly to Arthur's dust-covered archive of an estate, this is where Alfred stores a lot of his things from the days of old. Unlike his father, he doesn't put much out on display. A couple pieces of memorabilia here and there but for the most part, he's got it in a box shoved in a corner of a room he hasn't opened in half a century.
What once was Sir Lord Kirkland's bedroom when staying in the colonies, has the largest upstairs balcony that looks over the garden and on clear days, out to the harbor. A telescope perched on the railing always on the lookout for father's return home.
I think something of old he does have out on display is a massive quilt he has up and framed in the living room. It's something that took him ages to finish back in the 19th century and the fabric is far too fragile for him to use it practically anymore.
For New York, he lives in a high-rise apartment in Manhattan. Big, open floor plan, and lots of large windows, and it's perfect for entertaining guests. This is his most modern and luxurious residence. Beautiful view of the city and Central Park. Think of the apartment that we see in Hetalia of the Living Dead.
Back in the 20s he 100% had one of those big Gatsby mansions out in the Hamptons and threw parties all of the time but got rid of it all towards the latter half of the decade. Think of the ridiculousness of Mansion Party by Ninja Sex Party
The last one for this area will be the brick row house in West Philadelphia. This is likely his second oldest home and where he spent a lot of his time during the Revolution. This is where he feels like where he was really born as a nation so he has a lot of deep ties here.
I want to give him an attic bedroom with a desk by the window that can see the steeple of Christ Church near the Delaware River. The same desk he's written pamphlets for the Revolution, letters to his brother, and for even a time, a typewriter when he was feeling a resurgence of literature and poetry in the early 20th century is still there.
I don't which state exactly has that beautiful blue suburban with the big pool. Somewhere there's not a lot of snow year-round and gets those hot summers where all you want to do is submerge yourself in water. Somewhere in the South, I'm thinking either one of the Carolinas or Georgia.
He feels like the type of person to have ranches all across the central US. Most of the year he has other people working on them to take care of the animals.
The one he frequents the most is the working cattle ranch in Arizona.
Time capsule midcentury house out in the Midwest. I want to say somewhere in the Chicago area. I want to put it in Southern California where this style of house first started to get popular but going to give some love to other parts of the country.
Floor-to-ceiling windows, a sunk-in living room pit, short staircases connecting rooms throughout the house, partial brick walls, fireplaces centered in rooms, and several doors and windows to access the outdoor living space.
If you've been on my blog for a while then you might have noticed I love making Alfred a California Beach Boy. I can give him so many houses in just this state alone but I'll keep it short and sweet.
His bum-out beach cottage is located in Santa Monica and he's been located there since the 1890s. The house itself has been remodeled and updated several times over the past century. The materials he uses for the house as well as the layout stay fairly consistent, with lots of natural, light wood and open space to allow in lots of sunlight and central airflow. It's also a small space; you open that front door and right away you can already see the living room, kitchen, dining room, and out to the ocean out back. The entryway is the house.
It's almost purposely made so you can see the wear on the floors and furniture. If he drops a surfboard on the floor and there's some damage left behind, he'll leave it there. You can see the wood frames have been handmade and have some flaws and mistakes if you run a hand over them.
It's also very analog with most of the tech in the house dating to maybe the mid-90s at the latest: VHS and record player, rotary phone, etc. No AC either but he does have a great internet connection.
If I cannot fulfill my lifelong dream of having a colorfully painted Victorian house in San Francisco then Alfred can have one. I think he spent a lot of time in the 80s in the Bay Area and this old house was just a constant project of fixing up and refurbishing.
Okay, the last one I'll talk about for the time being will be his house up in Washington State.
I just really love Contemporary houses and Alfred had one built for him when they first started gaining popularity in the Pacific Northwest in 1935. Large windows invite the beauty of the region into the house while complementing the natural landscape. The Pacific Northwest features steep, rugged terrain that encourages post and beam architecture.
Tucked away in cozy woods and nestled along a majestic river.
Decor often brings nature indoors using live-edge wooden furniture, stone and wooden accents, and other cozy touches.
I don't see Alfred as being a big log cabin person but incorporate the coziness of one into this house. Place that Twilight filter on and it's his most aesthetic getaway.

Hello! I’ve read your Alfred x ColdWarSpy one shot and the oneshot of Alfred x Spy who’s target is England/England x Spay who’s target is America.
I love the way you portray Alfred! Someone on here once described him as: brilliant, ambitious, and ruthless. A combination of the superhero myths: Clark Kent & Lex Luthor, Captain America & Winter Soldier.
I love how you can portray him as still the sunny persona, and some of that may be part of his real self, but also the ruthless superpower that people forget about.
What more thoughts do you have on him?
Quick note: answering asks in a non-chronological order at the moment so that I can get around to emptying the ask box
Ooooo... another person who digs stirringwinds’s stuff. We stan. Also, thank you for the kind words.
In total, I have plenty of headcanons for almost all the Hetalia character’s, partially due to me being quiet the history buff. Warning for plenty of TV Tropes references, because I’m that sort of person that also uses TV Tropes as a Getaway Drug, so links!
Aside from the aforementioned characters that America shares parallels with, I see him having a lot in common with Indiana Jones. They are both the sort of figures that hold strong to a certain code, although with Alfred it often goes into the territory of American Execptionalism – a lot of the Utopia Justify the Means making him in the eyes of plenty of the other nations and even people a Well-Intentioned Extremist. This would also have some truth to it, given that his Puritan background would have left marks. Also has a habit of using Indy Ploys in which he has no concrete plan and just improvises as he goes. Has some negative side effects in larger operations, where he would need a more detailed plan aside from vague goals of establishing freedom and democracy or something of the sort. In simple terms, his thought process would sometimes be like this:
Situation A happens
Stuff happens
Situation B comes into effect.
Big on the Obfuscating Stupidity. On some part he is also very silly, and would just want to have some fun. On the other he would just want people to underestimate him. Think of Zaphod Beeblebrox from Hitchhikker’s Guide to the Galaxy. At times can also be as vain and narcissistic.
On both of the upper points – he has a tendency to over think matters at times, leading to the Centipede’s Dilemma. But because that’s one of the things he is generous enough to share, he loves invoking it in others. May or may not have killed Arthur in the past by yelling “Which foot goes next?” when the latter was running down the stairs, causing his father to stumble and break his neck. Yes, Alfred suffers from Comedic Sociopathy, especially when it comes to people he doesn’t really like.
Apropos people he doesn’t like – while Alfred is at times inclusive and loves experiencing other cultures, that wouldn’t apply to morality. Nations have difference moral nuances, things they consider right and wrong that can differ from their neighbour. America is of the opinion that his way is the right way – other modes of thinking would either be tolerated or outright condemned.
Torn between wanting to have adventure and a desire for a simple life. In that sense, he always functions best while living on a frontier, where he would have a mix of both. Always has new ideas, many seeming hare-brained to outsiders, and even to himself in retrospect. But he loves to be a Pioneer, so he won’t let anybody stop him, until it is too late, that is.
Is a surprisingly good cook, although it often involves things that other people wouldn’t eat. Literally can’t stick to the recipe because he would always want to try out something new. As such, he would seldom make the same thing twice. Except steak – the steak must be rare and the tea of the southern sweet variety or else.
Ranges from being a Southern Gentlemen to a loud and rude New Yorker with all of that Brooklyn Rage and everything in between. Though, aside from that, he would often put on the guise of that All-American Boy and turn up that Hollywood Charm.
I shall finish here before it gets out of hand, though you peeps are free to request more in the future.

The Midwestern states is a arg inspired by the anime called Hetalia: Axis Powers
The Midwestern states is a old anime tv show that has these characters with the human version of the midwestern states
Something is wrong with the show
The show was taken off air in 2006 for being too dark and disturbing
Indiana was staring at the viewers and the missing person poster appeared on screen
The tv show was long forgotten wasn’t until Dylan found the lost media anime that didn’t exist and it keeping appearing out of nowhere

Hey, so back in September I went to the anime convention for four days, and the reason I didn't say anything right away is because I was waiting on two other commissions. Well, they both came, and now I can share it.
So, back in September, I went to an anime convention with Canada and Sasha, since last year I went with America and Estonia. We ended up staying for the whole event, which we usually don't do but since Canada had something to do in the same town the day after the convention officially ended, we did it this time. The first day we got there, we got some Culver's before going to our hotel room and unpacking, which was a lot harder to do than it looked. Since we arrived on the first day of the con, the hotel had a lot of people checking in so we had to wait a while to check in, but once we did it was pretty smooth sailing from there. We relaxed for a bit and then checked out the vendor hall before it closed. Saw some cool stuff, got some stuff. We got some dinner at a new Ramen place across the street, a d the Ramen they make is so good, way better than what you'd find at the store. Like so much better. So anyway, after that we went down to a panel at 10 pm where everyone discussed their fictional character crushes (one of the panelists had Rattlesnake Jake as a crush, and I was just so excited to see someone giving my dad some love, it just feels like nobody else loves him but me!). I got to admit a few of my fictional crushes (not saying who they are yet 🤫🤭), and I really felt among my people. The next panel was a Hetalia truth or dare panel that was at 11:30, and since I was going as Sealand from Hetalia, I fit right in; I got a few cosplayera who recognized me. I got to ask a few questions, even got asked to feel Germany's muscles (😳), got a dare or two in, I even got to sit up on the panel when three Nordic cosplayers got dared to switch out with three audience members of their choice for three rounds (I was chosen by Denmark), so yay my first panel experience! 🙌 So that went on until midnight.
The next day there was another Hetalia panel at 11:30, so I had to get up early for that, which I didn't mind at all; believe or not, an England cosplayer actually asked me to film it, which I accepted. I still got to participate- got to ask some questions and whatnot, seeing as how it was called 'A Scandal In Hetalia' where we basically had to solve who kidnapped Pierre, France's dove (it was Prussia). Also, I have a new ship thanks to that panel. That went on until 12:30. After that we checked out the rest of the vendor hall, bought some more stuff, and went to a small BJD panel that was at 1 called 'Anime doll meetup.' Not a whole lot happened during that panel, it was mainly people bringing in anime-style ball jointed dollars for you to look at and ask questions about, and there I learned that a Hetalia America doll I bought I believe two years ago actually counts as a ball-jointed doll, since somebody brought one on just like mine which I did not know, so I'll have to bring him next year. After that we bought some more stuff in the vendor hall, headed back up to the hotel room to get some lunch and watch an Indiana Jones movie to pass the time until the next panel at 4, which was a workshop where you got to make little miniature bento boxes for your ball-jointed dolls. We had a little bit of trouble assembling the boxes but I'm still proud of mine. It was a two-part workshop, over the span of two days and we went to the first part, which was making the boxes themselves. After that we went back up to the hotel room, ordered us some dinner, watched some TV, and went down at 10 for a panel called 'Art Attack', where we all played a game where we collaborated with an artist to come up with a new character based on a theme. Basically, after selecting a base for the body, we would all submit our ideas on this website for a specific part and each idea was put on a wheel that was spun, and whatever idea it landed on would go on the character. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the end result so I can't show you guys, but I don't mind; I had fun regardless.
The next day we didn’t have to wake up as early since the panels we wanted to go to weren't until late at night, so we got to mostly relax until 1 pm when there was a maid Cafe that was old anime-themed- the dance they did was the Haruhi Suzumiya ending dance That was fun, except the other sweets I ordered never came :/ Oh well. I still got to take a photo with two of my favorite maids and I got to have it personalized, so that was fun. After that I visited the vendor hall to order some commissions until the next panel at 4 pm, which was the second part of the miniature bento box workshop the day before. This part focused more in creating the miniature food that went inside the boxes and finishing off the boxes. Of course, I spent more time making sure my boxes looked good, but they gave us extra clay to take home and make food with, so that was nice. If I'm being honest, that panel was a lot of fun, I'm hoping the woman in charge comes back next year. After that we went up and ordered us some dinner from Five Guys since the next panel wasn't until 8:30, so we had some time to kill. At 8:30, we went down to the panel which was another Hetalia panel that was mostly centered around APH America and so had a bunch of America cosplayers- regular, nyo, 2p nyo, emo, America as Captain America, and Canada was involved too. Oh, and there was a toddler as part of the panel that was passed off as Chibi America; England even asked me to film this panel too. It was fun too, got a few American-themed goodies, got to ask some questions like what was their favorite Golden Girl, made a Victoria's Secret (the song) reference by telling England that Victoria was made up by a dude. Overall, very funny, would go again. Also, emo America was cute. After that we waited in line for the next panel which was a silent library panel. Unfortunately, this one wasn't as fun as the last one. For starters, there were a lot more people than at the last one, and they were all loud and wild as fuck, like seriously; the panel started at ten and went on til midnight and we only got three challenges done because most of it was spent the host trying to quiet everybody down because they all kept yelling when someone got punished for failing a challenge, or just for no reason. Then, people kept going in and out to use the bathroom so someone would yell 'door' whenever someone walked in, which wouldn't have been bad if it weren’t for the fact that it kept happening every time someone was up on stage to get punished for failing a challenge. On top of that, people got way too into the punishment, like they actually started taking off their pants before getting spanked, which was not something they did at the last silent library I went to. Now, I have no problem with nudity or sex when it comes to fictional characters, but that's it, that is my personal limit. I don't like real life human nudity, I hate humans, I'm not attracted to them at all, and yeah you get the point. Not only that, but since this was an 18+ panel, there was a strict 'No phones allowed' rule, and I swear, people do not know how to follow the rules, because the host caught someone with their phone out three times and all three times the person on their phone was escorted out or asked to leave. I swear, it's like being courteous to everyone participating in the panel was a foreign concept to them. On top of that, my wig kept giving me trouble, so we ended up leaving a half hour in. So yeah, not as fun as the last silent library panel I went to.
The last day of the con wasn't very exciting, which meant we were able to pack up everything with no trouble so we could leave the next day with ease since we had to check out the next day. There was a 'Test your rizz' panel that I wanted to go to since I thought it was like a panel I went to at a different con several years ago where you defended your fictional character and convinced the audience why they were superior waifu or husbando, but it wasn't anything like that, and the characters being cosplayed that were part of the panel weren't ones I'm into, so I quickly got bored and left and we just relaxed in the craft room. Overall, we took it easy the rest of the day, checked out the next day (we usually leave the con on the last day of the con while people are still there, so leaving it while it was completely empty save for the general public felt so fucking weird) stayed at another hotel since cousin Canada (standing in for a real life family member) had an appointment with a specialist, and the following day we went home. Overall, this con was a lot of fun, and I hope next year's con will be just as fun.
So I got a lot of stuff at this year's con, but before I show it, I absolutely have to show you all these cute little bento boxes I made at one of the panels.

Unfortunately, I started them at the con and didn't finish them until recently, and by then the clay they had allowed some of us to take home- which we used to make the miniature food- had dried up, so I ended up half-assing the food. They're not perfect but I still like them.
Okay, so, onto the stuff.
Sadly, there's a photo limit so I'll have to put what I got in a different post since it's quite a bit when combined with the bento box images.
Antis dni, this post is not for you
