saw someone on hq tiktok finally (FINALLY) agree that hinata and kageyama should be on separate teams post time skip and that it isn't actually as devastating some 'shobio fans' think it is AND THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE IN THE COMMENTS GETTING IT WRONG. "i'm sad that they're on separate teams" if you wanted to tell me that you only see hinata and kageyama as ""Shobio"" as opposed to individuals who happen to have some queer undertones you could have just said that y'know..

Shoyo Hinata
HEAVEN AND BACK [Chase Atlantic]
✰ This song just is so Shoyo Hinata coded. I love it so much, I can see him loving it too. He is for sure a switch, mostly dominating over you though.
✰ I don't see him being very into foreplay, I feel like he can get hard just from looking at you, thinking of what he wants to do to you.
✰ His stamina makes him go on until he gives out, which is after 3 to 4 rounds.
✰ This song makes him want to please you, making sure to have you rolling back your eyes.
✰ You are addicted to him. You love him so much but he loves you just as much.
✰ He can't help himself but to go fast, he doesn't like being slow. Yet he is sensual, never too rough, kissing you passionately as he goes as fast as he can, in hopes of making you see stars.
✰ "Are you feeling good baby? Should I go go deeper?"
✰ Hinata always makes sure to focus on your pleasure before his own. He loves you, more than anyone.
✰ You are everything he needs. You're like his drug. Without you, he'd be nothing.
"She just went to heaven and back"
-
Tobio Kageyama
PILLOWTALK [ZAYN]
✰ Tobio is... In my opinion, a switch.
✰ With this song on he will start off slow then speed up, your moans with this song make him so happy.
✰ He isn't afraid to pillow talk you in bed. "S...So tight for me... Want me to go faster?"
✰ The passionate sex between you two with this song is euphoric. He loves everything about you.
✰ He won't be afraid to tell you how much he loves you, praising you here and there whenever he feels like doing so.
✰ If he wanted to he could last 2 rounds but he usually has you asleep by then.
✰ He shows you how much he loves you by making sure to go harder and deeper right before the song ends.
✰ After you two are done, he kisses your forehead, whispering sweet nothings in your ear.
"I love to hold you close, tonight and always"
-
Kei Tsukishima
Lollipop [Lil Wayne]
✰ This man is a dom and I'd say a sadist.
✰ He'll degrade you, making sure you know you're just there to be his plaything. "Such a slut, don't worry, I'll take good care of you,"
✰ He loves you but won't be the one to tell you that, he'll let you know when he fucks you harshly and depply.
✰ "Slut" "Whore" "Dumbass" "Bitch"
✰ Tsukishima won't be afraid to spank you whenever you're acting extra feisty.
✰ He loves as this song plays in the background as he inflicts pain on your pretty little body.
✰ His favorite thing to do is... Well, fucking your mouth, making sure you're crying and gagging.
"She-she lick me like a lollipop"
-
Yuu Nishinoya
Down On Me [Jeremiah]
✰ He is pretty kinky, he doesn't mind letting you take control of him. With that being said, he is a switch.
✰ Now... His dick is big, all of his height went where it was supposed to.
✰ He loves watching you moan and having his dick all in your mouth.
✰ "So good...! Keep sucking baby, I'm so close!"
✰ He never degrades you. It isn't in his heart to hurt the feelings of the person he loves.
✰ This song just matches his energy, he can't stand being in such a quiet place. He adores your movements when this song comes on.
✰ Nishinoya is a loud moaner, he needs to have some sort of sound throughout the room as this song plays.
✰ He admires you, making sure to kiss every part of you. You're the light of his life.
✰ Hickeys. He loves receiving and giving them. Receiving them because he wants everyone to know he has someone who actually fucks him and giving them to show everyone you're his. Only his.
"I love the way you grind that booty on me"
-
Koshi Sugawara
Into It [Chase Atlantic]
✰ Sugawara is such a nice guy to those who know him but in the bedroom he's a bit different. It depends on his mood, he will always be a dom though.
✰ With this song playing he will degrade you, in a sexy way. A possessive way.
✰ "You're mine, say it pretty girl,"
✰ He would be the type to smoke while fucking you from behind, he loves doggy style, he likes seeing your ass bounce against his hips.
✰ He makes sure to go slow and deep as this song plays, biting your neck, putting you into missionary.
✰ With this song playing, he focuses on your pleasure, cumming deep in you over and over until he feels like you're done.
✰ His hands are godly, overstimulating you after you beg him you can't do it anymore
✰ "Y/n, shut up, I know you can take it. Be a good girl and fucking take it,"
"I wouldn't change it for the world, I'm fucking into it"
-
Hajime Iwaizumi
Wicked Games [The Weekend]
✰ Iwaizumi is a dom, no questioning. He is such a sweet one though.
✰ He'd never hurt you in any way, even if you asked him to. He just can't see himself hurting you.
✰ This song just turns him on, he loves seeing you naked as this song plays. It makes him feel some type of way.
✰ With this song, he will hold your hands, pinning them down. Then he will go deep and hard inside you.
✰ "Taking me so good, good girl,"
✰ He lives for praise, he enjoys getting praise from you. He will also praise you as well.
✰ His strong build can easily man handle you.
✰ I'd say he can last 3-4 rounds, considering he is an athletic trainer.
✰ He loves you, the way he takes care of you after is so astonishing. He will clean you up and make sure you're okay. You both truly love each other.
"Listen, ma, I'll give you all I got. Get me off of this, I need confidence in myself"
-
Toru Oikawa
Party Monster [The Weekend]
✰ I feel dom vibes from him. I can see him mainly having a teasing personality during sex.
✰ "Aw, you wanna cum? Alright! Let me pick up my pace then cutie,"
✰ I see him loving this song because it kind of describes him in a way. He is known to be a flirt.
✰ Most definitely would fuck you in a mirror while this song plays. He'd have you face down ass up, grabbing your throat so you can watch him destroy you.
✰ "Watch as I fuck you, kay?"
✰ I don't see him as someone who is very into making out with people, I can see him kissing your neck though, not leaving hickeys.
✰ He doesn't really feel love towards you, he isn't focused on love, but whenever he fucks you, he appreciates you.
✰ Still, he has a special spot for you, not really for anyone else. He makes sure to fuck you sensually, he cherishes sex.
"Say you're mine, I'm yours for the night"
-
Atsumu Miya
Acquainted [The Weekend]
✰ Rough dom. I don't need to elaborate .
✰ This song just reminds him so much of your relationship. You flirted your way to get where you're at. Usually he'd turn down every girl but you were different. There was something about you that turned him on.
✰ He loves you. LOVES you. This song really just keeps him sane as he's fucking you.
✰ He will be rough with you like pulling your hair, choking, breath-play, etc. But he won't ever think of degrading you.
✰ Hickeys and bruises is what he wants to see on himself, he doesn't mind giving you them here and there.
✰ He is super over protective over you, one guy speaking to you could cause a whole argument... Ending with his dick being shoved down your throat.
✰ He would love to make you his rope bunny but he hasn't really decided to bring it up yet.
✰ He will grunt and groan as he fucks you roughly to this song, occasionally humming to the tune.
"You got me puttin' time in, time in. Nobody got me feeling this way"
-
Osamu Miya
Call Out My Name [The Weekend]
✰ I can see him being a dom but more soft yet can sometimes be rough.
✰ He plays this song just because he likes the melody... It's dark and sad and he likes that type of vibe.
✰ He will fuck you slow and deep to this song, wanting to cum inside you.
✰ "Stop squirmin'... Let me fill you up baby,"
✰ He doesn't like pulling your hair or choking you but he will dig his nails deep into your skin, for example... Your thighs.
✰ He is more on the quiet side of things, a little too shy to moan for you.
✰ After having sex he will take a shower with you and hold you until you fall asleep.
✰ "Love you so much... You're so perfect,"
"So call out my name when I kiss you, So gently"
-
Rintaro Suna
I Wanna Be Yours [Arctic Monkeys]
✰ Suna is so Arctic Monkeys coded. He just fits that vibe so well, I love it .
✰ Currently you and Suna aren't together, only fucking whenever you feel like it but... Recently he had started developing feelings for you.
✰ Playing this song helps you see how he feels, and with that he fucks you to it.
✰ He is rough but soft. He will start off slow and then speed up the pace when you begin whining for more.
✰ He likes smelling your hair as he fucks you, breathing in your scent.
✰ "You smell good... Did you get a new perfume?"
✰ He barely makes any noise during sex, not feeling too comfortable yet. He doesn't know whether or not you like guys who do that or not.
✰ He tries his best to please you. If he cums first and you don't he will eat you out.
✰ Very good with his hands.
✰ After all of the sweat and panting, I could see him offering you a cigarette to smoke.
"Secrets I have held in my heart, Are harder to hide than I thought"
-
Bokuto Koutaro
Touchin And Lovin [Trey Songz]
✰ Gives off major switch vibes.
✰ With this song on, he will be fast and deep when fucking you. He wants to make you feel good.
✰ LOVES PRAISE ! One little nice thing said to him can make him cum on the spot.
✰ He genuinely loves and cares for you.
✰ He is a head pusher, you don't mind though, you like him being rough with you.
✰ He whines . For sure .
✰ I can see his childish self singing along to this song thinking he sounds sexy while fucking you but you're dying of laughter.
✰ He isn't afraid of being serious when needed, he will fuck you hard and serious if the mood is right.
✰ Guys . The ass jiggles as he's hitting it from behind... And no, I'm not talking about your ass...
✰ He could toss you around like a rag-doll but he's too scared to hurt you.
✰ After sex he always cracks up jokes to make the awkwardness go away.
✰ He will french kiss you softly until you agree to go to bed with him.
"Touchin', lovin', fuckin', can't make up my mind"
-
Keiji Akaashi
Versace on the Floor [Bruno Mars]
✰ I can see him being mean, dominating over you. Never too mean though.
✰ He loves this song because he likes taking your clothes off slowly, the melody of the music compliments the slow sensual acts between you two.
✰ In this song, he would fuck you slowly, almost too slow (low key cockwarming).
✰ He loves you and the feeling of being inside you.
✰ He barely makes any noise but will moan here and there to feel your walls clench down on his dick.
✰ He is very sweet when he speaks to you, his actions being the only mean thing about him.
✰ "Stay still. Feels too good~"
✰ He likes being alone with you, in the dark as this song plays. He just feels so safe and secure with you.
✰ Afterwards, he will make sure you're all cleaned up and go to sleep on his own accord.
"There's no place I'd rather be in this world. Your eyes are where I'm lost in"
-
Tetsurou Kuroo
Loveeeeeee Song [Rihanna]
✰ He is a respectful man when it comes to having sex.
✰ He will be sweet with you, talking you through it as he sinks his cock deep inside you.
✰ "You can take it, yeah? Yeah, you can,"
✰ He isn't the type to be super kinky or pull your hair... But he would be the type to steal your panties after you two have sex.
✰ He fucks you to this song however he feels like in that moment. It's just a song that expresses his emotions towards you. He cares about you a lot.
✰ You both cherish each other, deeply. It's on a level that no one can understand.
✰ I can see him moaning for you, not too much but quite a lot.
✰ His nerdiness can get the best of him sometimes, finding himself distracted when it comes to logical decisions like cumming inside you.
"I need love and affection"
-
Kenma Kozume
Hentai [Cigarettes After Sex]
✰ Look... He's a gamer and sometimes some games can be connected to hentai... Of fucking course he was going to fuck you to a song named hentai.
✰ Switch (dom+)
✰ This song is exactly how he feels about you, it's crazy that it is his literal feelings.
✰ He will fuck you slow and try not to make so much noise so he can listen to the song as he fucks you.
✰ With that knowledge, he tries not to moan or whine but sometimes his little gasps and panting is sexy.
✰ You find it cute how much he desires you, wanting to fuck you any chance he gets.
✰ "Come and sit on my lap while I play games... What? No... I wasn't planning on... Idiot,"
✰ Loves using toys during sex, finds it easier to make you cum.
✰ He'd be the type to record videos of you two.
✰ Kenma... I know for sure he makes you roleplay as anime girls, video game characters, or even animals for him.
✰ This song is his favorite one, he just needs to cum on your body after hearing it. You're his little toy.
✰ He loves you so much but shows it through actions instead of words. That's why he touches you so much.
"I've been waiting for you to fall for me and let me in your life"

Why Bachira x Isagi (Blue Lock) is One of the Best Ships of All Time
Tumblr media
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR UP TO CHAPTER 86 OF THE MANGA
I’ll be honest and say that while Isagi and Bachira’s dynamic in the first arc was cute, it wasn’t anything that stood out to me too much. It seemed like a very typical sports anime type relationship at first. The main character shoots. His friend is there for him and passes to him so he can shine. They have good chemistry. They achieve results together that would be un-imaginably amazing compared to when they were apart. We’ve seen it so many times before already. Kageyama and Hinata, Kuroko and Kagami, Mihashi and Abe; the list goes on.
That all stops when the second selection starts.
Tumblr media
Bachira was forced to leave and suddenly Isagi has to fight on his own. He recognizes that up until now, he’s only been useful because of Bachira and in order to get him back, has to learn to fight without him. And, contrary to what we’re made to believe in the first selection that Isagi is better when with Bachira, the truth is that Isagi actually thrives without Bachira. In fact, he gets so powerful that even an outsider like Nagi who initially called him worthless without Bachira genuinely believed that Isagi would decide against stealing Bachira back by the end.
Tumblr media
As for Bachira, he’s given a hard wake-up call when he finally sees Isagi again. He recognizes how much better Isagi is without him to the point of Isagi ignoring him on the field, and that sets the part of himself that can only feel alive when he’s with Isagi off. It’s only with this wake-up call that Bachira realizes everything he’s thought up until now was wrong. That’s when we get a parallel to what Isagi did for Bachira in learning to fight without him in order to get him back. In exchange for being able to stand on the same level as and not be left behind by Isagi, Bachira threw away his purpose of playing soccer as his way to connect with Isagi. He realized he shouldn’t do things for the sake of staying by Isagi’s side. He should be doing things for his own growth. Bachira did this fully believing and grieving that he was giving up on being with Isagi. So much so that in his head, Bachira says goodbye to him. And in a similar fashion to Isagi, that’s the moment we learn that Bachira is actually stronger without him.
They both had to get stronger out of desperation to stay together, and consequently abandoned that part of themselves that depended on each other in the first place.
Tumblr media
I want to pause right here and just applaud the author. I know Blue Lock has been praised as being a subversion of a ton of sports manga tropes and this is probably one of the most fantastic examples. We’re so used to the protagonist-and-partner combination being put on a pedestal. But here, it’s deconstructed right in front of us to show how it actually hinders both Isagi and Bachira as strikers and as people. And honestly? It felt like that would be it. I remember my heart dropping when I reached that point in the manga. Logically they would go their separate ways in a mutual break-up.
But they don’t. In the final scene of the soccer match, we see that everyone hadn’t believed in Bachira’s ego since long ago while Isagi had never stopped believing in him. Isagi caught Bachira’s winning goal. I thought that was a perfect parallel to their first meeting when Bachira passed the ball to the monster and then Isagi became the monster. This time Bachira abandoned the monster. There was no monster anymore because Bachira left it behind but even when the monster was gone, Isagi was still there. It's symbolic of how he doesn't see Isagi as just a monster anymore. He sees Isagi as Isagi, signaling a new era in their relationship.
And that’s also when Bachira realizes that just because he’s grown away from needing Isagi, just because he doesn’t live to make Isagi stronger anymore, just because he’s embracing that part of him that plays soccer solitarily for himself, doesn’t mean Isagi won’t still be there with him and believing in him. Bachira could change as much as he wants and the other won’t leave. They don’t need each other anymore, but that’s exactly what allows them to realize that being together makes them so happy, makes soccer so much fun, that they want to stick together until the very end anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Or the official translation / scans)
Tumblr media
This direction for their relationship seems bittersweet but I think that’s what makes it realistic. Relationships are multi-faceted and they change over time. Isagi and Bachira had to say goodbye to one aspect of their relationship but they also gained a new one. They both used to rely on each other a lot to be their very best. That mutualistic symbiotic relationship they had in soccer, that is the crutch in so many sports anime, is gone now. Bachira and Isagi aren’t necessary to each other in soccer anymore. Personally though, I think this new dynamic actually makes them closer than they were before.
To Bachira, Isagi used to be a person he needed to pass to because he’s a monster and someone who staved off his loneliness. To Isagi, Bachira used to be someone who made good passes to help him function in soccer. I think the fact that Bachira was so easily swayed to making Rin his new “monster” made it evident. As they continue to grow as strikers, they’ll be cycling through teammates most suited to their skillset. Teammates come and go. What Isagi and Bachira are to each other evolved past that, beyond the soccer field, and became something that would stay with them their entire lives. There is no “I’m with Isagi because if I can’t play soccer with him, I would die from loneliness” or “I’m with Bachira because he lets me be invincible on the field” anymore. They’re together because they want to be and because they love each other (platonically or romantically). That’s all.
Tumblr media
(Manga panel taken from an AMV on youtube)
And I think that’s beautiful. It’s beautiful because this is what true unconditional love looks like. I know what the manga did to them might not be the “popular” thing. Ships that are super dependent on each other and need each other to live are the ones that get views because it’s seen as romantic. But Bachisagi / Isabachi abandoned that to instead become one of the healthiest relationships you could possibly get not just in a sports anime but in general.
I mean, wow. I wish I had someone who wanted to be with me and had the emotional capacity to always believe in me no matter how much I changed, disappointed, and grew away from centering my world around them. I wish I had someone who could say that they don’t need me anymore but that’s exactly why they can say in full confidence that they still want me with all their heart. Bachisagi is seriously #relationshipgoals more than most married couples.
In conclusion, Bachira/Isagi deserves way more recognition and I will happily scream into the void with the other 6 of you out there who ship them /j

Synopsis: You are Nishinoya's older sister, the fearless, confident, and reliable manager... except when faced with your feelings with the team ace. As both of your high school years are going to be coming to a close, will one of you be able to say something about how you feel? Who will overcome their nerves first?
Warnings: reader has she/her pronouns, reader is described as being short because she's nishinoya's sister, language, karasuno being chaotic, season 4 spoilers, tooth-rotting fluff.
Author's Note: My old Asahi fic, as promised. This one is a bit longer and used to be on my old wattpad account some time ago. Asahi is one of my favorite hq characters, literally my baby. This one is pure fluff, and is a bit on the longer side. Also, this fic takes place during the events of season 4 so there are some spoilers in that sense, but nothing too major. Enjoy lovelies <3
Word Count: ~ 6.9k
___________________________________________________________
They did it. In your two years of being a manager for the Karasuno boys volleyball team, you probably would have never thought that the boys would beat Shiratorizawa, much less make it to nationals. And yet, even as you stared out at the Tokyo sky on the way to the inn, even as Asahi landed that last spike to push them through to the 2nd round, you still felt that little voice whisper in your head in complete awe and disbelief.
They did it.
After the game, the Karasuno gang packed up and headed back for the inn. Most of them took a nap or stared tiredly out the window. They were all exhausted from the thrill of their first game, and they should be. They fought hard and restlessly. The boys showed everyone watching in the stands today that they didn’t come here on some fluke, they came here because they are going to win.
That’s right. The entire damn tournament.
Takeda shouted from the front, breaking you from your thoughts. “We’re here everyone!” Hinata immediately jumped up from his seat and barreled full speed toward the front. Kageyama chased after him not much longer (probably because Hinata woke him up when he started running). You chuckled at the duo and slowly got up from your own seat in the front. As everyone else piled off you began making your way toward the back. You kind of made it your own job to wake anyone up once you’ve reached the destination on road trips.
You spotted Tanaka and Yuu dozing a few seats back. You silently made your way over to them, and started to shake Tanaka.
“Tanakaaaa, wake uuuup,” you sang while shaking his shoulder. He lazily opened his eyes and let out a yawn. You then reached over to poke at Yuu’s back which was turned to you as he wrapped himself around his duffel bag. “Come on Yuu.” You didn’t have to try that hard with Yuu. After all, you woke him up for school every day.
As you leaned back, Tanaka stretched his arms above his head and asked, “(Y/N)? Are we here?” You gave him a nod and moved out of the way for him to get up. Yuu was glaring at you from behind his seat.
“What’s wrong Yuu?” you asked, smirking. “Mad cause I woke you up?”
“I was having a good dreaaammm,” he whines.
“Whatever, just get your lazy ass up and let's head inside,” Tanaka drawls as he slaps Yuu upside the head.
“My lazy ass?” Yuu retorts. Yuu grabbed his duffel bag, and then returned a smack upside Tanaka’s head as they walked toward the front of the bus. “You were sleeping too!” Here they go again…
“Boys!” you yelled at them. They stopped. “Just get off the bus!” The libero and the wing spiker left without saying another word.
You sighed while shaking your head. You considered this your own role as a manager sometimes. Kiyoko was more of the quiet one that did her job well, Yachi was the newbie still getting used to the reins, and you were the one that kept the boy’s attitudes in check (yes, even Daichi sometimes).
You still remember back when you were about halfway through your first year as a manager. You were a second-year at the time. There was a day when the boys were so rowdy that not even the old Coach Ukai could calm them down. You must had been on your period or something that day, because you got so mad at them. All of a sudden, you had started scolding them for their attitudes and lack of respect, telling them that they needed to represent Karasuno High School the right way. It scared the team a bit. Their tiny manager that was practically a foot shorter than them was putting them in line and they actually listened. And so, the role kinda stuck (though you try not to lash out like you did that day).
You smiled at the memory. You started your way towards the front until you heard a few light snores coming from a seat further back to your right. Huh, guess I missed one. You walked back to the seat, almost yelping in surprise at who you saw.
Asahi? The ace slept with his own duffel bag propped up against the window as he snuggled it like a pillow. Half his face was buried into the bag while the other half was still in a peaceful slumber. Little bits of his brown hair fell around his forehead and over his ears from his bun. One longer strand of hair fell out over his nose, and would lift up slightly whenever he let out a small snore. You wondered how he didn’t wake up from Yuu and Tanaka yelling as they got off. Daichi and Suga did say that Asahi sleeps like the dead, but you’ve never got to actually see that for yourself.
You felt heat crawl up your face and ears at the sight of him. Asahi’s face was usually always concentrated, scared, or smiling. But this was somehow different. Seeing him sleeping like that made you stop dead in your tracks and stop thinking rationally. What’s worse? He’s not even trying. Asahi’s expression, mixed with his messy hair and snores, was pulling you in like a magnet. You thought it was downright adorable. You wanted to sit by him, maybe get a little closer. Close enough that perhaps you could smell the scent off his jacket or…
Your blushing got worse. You liked to keep these thoughts under wraps, but when they did come up you couldn’t help but get flustered. Fortunately, sitting next to him was as far as you got.
Hesitantly, you reached over to grab and shake Asahi’s shoulder. “Asahi,” you whispered. He didn’t budge. God, you were so lucky that no one could see you doing this. Under normal circumstances, with everyone in here, you would have been redder than a Nekoma jersey. “Asahi,” you whispered a little louder this time, shaking his shoulder a bit more. When he stirred and sucked in a breath, you flinched and stood up so quickly that you thought your spine snapped. But sadly, it didn’t, and now here you are, watching as Asahi opened his eyes ever so slowly.
When he sits up and his eyes finally land on you, you glued your eyes to the seat you were just sitting on. “O-Oh, (y/n)! Are we here?” Asahi asks in a groggy voice while looking up at you and then out the window to see the inn.
“Y-yeah!” you answered, cursing your voice for going a little more high pitched than you planned. You forced yourself to look up at him and conceal your blush. “I woke you up…” Just as he rose, you started to walk to the front with Asahi now not that far behind you. You swore, even just feeling him walking behind you was setting off butterfly cannons in your stomach. So, you composed yourself and tried to just walk straight.
But, what if you stopped? What if you leaned back, felt the warmth of his broad chest against your head… who are you kidding, both you and him would have a heart attack if you ever tried something so bold. You couldn’t seem to place how these thoughts entered your head about someone so fragile like that...
Both of you got off the bus and walked side by side now toward the lobby. You were mentally smacking yourself for thinking such things with him so close by.
When you entered the lobby, you took a seat and forced yourself to stop and think about something else.
“I’m going to put my stuff upstairs, see ya (y/n)!” Asahi called to you, turning for the stairs. Man, you were so caught up in your own thoughts that you didn’t even talk to him! Just how awkward can you get-
“See ya for dinner!” you called from over his shoulder as he, much to your relief and dismay, disappeared upstairs.
You let out a small sigh as you watched him disappear. Of course, you’ve fallen for the Ace of Karasuno. You just couldn’t help it. Asahi is one of the greatest friends you have and probably the most caring and understanding person you’ve ever met. He interested you too, how someone that big and imposing could be so gentle. Not only that, you did think he was really attractive. You started feeling this way at the beginning of your second year, and it didn’t take long for everyone to catch on. Heck, even the current first years have noticed it (Tsukishima teases you about it so much you have to remind him to respect his fucking elders and their problems). Somehow Asahi hasn’t caught on, probably due to his usual softie mentality.
That’s probably for the best. Not wanting to screw up your friendship with Asahi is probably the reason you’ve never confessed anyway. Probably.
But you’re running out of time. After this tournament, you have a few more weeks before you both graduate and you go off to attend university. So maybe you’ll just enjoy the time that you have with him, even if you most likely won’t tell him in the end.

Asahi walked up to the boys room with his duffel bag, his mind a flurry of thoughts. Should I have stayed back with her? No, that would seem a little creepy… What do you mean creepy? She’s your friend! Shoot, I didn’t even tell her thank you for waking me up! Great going Asahi-
When Asahi entered the boys room, he was met with Kageyama being shoved into him, causing him to drop his bag.
“Ah! Sorry Asahi,” Kageyama apologized as Asahi bent down to pick it up.
“I-it’s fi-”
“Yeah Baka-yama! Say sorry!” Hinata shouted from across the room, sticking his tongue out at Kageyama.
“You’re the one that pushed me, dumbass!” Kageyama roared before storming back over to Hinata.
Asahi chuckled and made his way over to where Suga and Daichi were watching the pair fight from a safe distance.
“Hey, Asahi! Why’d you take so long to come up?” Daichi asked. He looked a little concerned, maybe even worried. Him and Suga really are just like his parents…
“O-oh no r-reason I-” he began. Asahi tried to avoid eye contact as his own voice began betraying him again. Eye contact was dangerous with these two sometimes, even if they were his friends. Both Suga and Daichi raised an eyebrow at him. “Um… I fell asleep on the bus a-and… (y/n) woke me up,” he muttered while getting quieter as he said your name.
“Aww, well isn’t that sweet!” Suga cooed with a teasing smirk. Asahi swore, whenever he brought you up when you weren't around, they were always quick to tease him. Maybe they are his parents…
Asahi felt a tiny blush begin to form on his cheeks as he stuttered “S-S-Suga, can we not talk about this right now…”
Daichi let out a disappointed sigh. “C’mon Asahi, you’ve basically had a crush on her since she became a manager. You gotta tell her already!”
“Tell who what?” asked Hinata who suddenly appeared beside Daichi. Asahi went stiff as a board, looking nowhere else than his shoes.
“Tell (y/n) that he likes her,” he heard Tsukishima say from beside Hinata. “What? Did you not know that he has feelings for her?”
“Wait, you mean… those kinda feelings?” Hinata’s voice got louder. It felt so loud that Asahi thought he was going to faint from the embarrassment.
Yamaguchi was quick to chime in with Tsukishima. “Well yeah! Hasn’t Tsukki told you this before?” How did they know?! Noya didn’t tell them… right?
As if on cue, Tanaka and Nishinoya also joined the conversation. “Yeah man! Who would’ve thought that Asahi would have a crush on such a hot girl like her, huh? What’d you think Noya?” Tanaka asked as he laughed along with the group.
“Asahi!” Noya yelled right into Asahi’s ear, scaring the living shit out of him. Almost the whole room went quiet. Noya pointed straight into Asahi’s face, causing his eyes to widen and look at his finger. Noya then began speaking as if he were talking of destiny, “Azumane Asahi, as Nishinoya (y/n)’s younger brother, and as her sole protector for life, I grant you permission for you to court her, and-”
“Oh please. Do you even know what the word “court” means when you say it like that?” Tsukishima snickered. Asahi’s body went cold with chills as his face flushed crimson. “You’re basically giving him permission to-”
“Would you guys shhhhhh!” Suga screamed at them before dropping his voice to a whisper. Oh thank God for Suga- “The girls room is right next door! They could’ve heard you for all you know! Have some respect…” Hinata squealed a ‘sorry’ and Tsukishima just walked away with a smirk. Noya gave Asahi a firm slap on the back. Everyone else that took part in the conversation left to do their own thing.
Suga put a gentle hand on Asahi’s shoulder, causing him to look into his eyes. “Look Asahi, whenever you’re around (y/n), I notice a slight change in you. You’re not super tense. You’re actually a lot more relaxed around her. You’re more confident and a lot more happy. She pushes you to do better unlike any one of us. You gotta tell her how you feel, and you have to do it soon, Asahi.”
“Yeah, and even if she doesn’t feel the same way, she isn’t the type of person to avoid you afterwards,” Daichi adds, giving him a reassuring smile.
Asahi blushed again before smiling at the ground. Is that really how he seems around you? Sure, some of what Suga said is true. He does feel a slightly bigger push when you’re the one to give pep talks before games, and it would be a lie to say that he wasn’t happier around you, but he thought everyone felt that way…
And the other things that Suga said? Asahi would just have to see for himself. Confess to you? Him, who has never been so in love with someone, and just happens to have no experience when it comes to that same department? He’s even surprised that words just came so naturally with you but confidence be damned! He never prepared himself for this!
Well, it is his third year after all… maybe he could learn a thing or two before ending high school. What does he have to lose?
“Y-Yeah...alright.”
There was a knock before the door opened. “Alright guys, meeting in the conference room in five. Dinner will be ready shortly after!” Coach Ukai yelled above the conversations. As soon as the team responded, one by one each boy began to leave the room. Daichi gave Asahi a small pat on the back before leaving with Suga.  Soon, Asahi was the only person left in the room, and the only tension present was created within his thoughts.
___________________________________________________________
You leaned your head back and closed your eyes as you let the steam and heat of the bath allow you to unwind. Kiyoko and Yachi had already climbed in with you. You sat to the right of Kiyoko and Yachi sat on her left.
“Rough day so far, (y/n)?” Kiyoko asked with her usual calming gaze. You could tell why almost all the boys were so into her. Seeing Yuu, Tanaka, and even boys from other teams try to hit on her was one of the funniest things to you. There was no denying that Kiyoko is pretty, and she always had this earthly calm about her that you just couldn’t put your finger on sometimes. Kiyoko has been your closest girl friend since you started as a manager, and now even Yachi was one too.
“Yeah,” you groaned. It may not seem like it to everyone else, but you had been stressed almost since you woke up this morning. First, there was the tension of the boys first game. Then, Kiyoko had to run back to grab Hinata’s bag that he left at the train station. The stress went away slightly after the boys won the first game, but the tension was still there now that they have to win the next one. To top it off, the boys just found out at their meeting that they would be going up against the team was ranked #2 to win nationals. Not to mention, their setter (according to Kageyama) was on the All Japan Youth team. If that didn’t make everyone’s anxiety for this tournament any worse, you didn’t know what did. You’re definitely going to make sure that the boys settle down to get enough sleep tonight.
Kiyoko and Yachi listened as you went on your rant about the day. But as you continued on, you let something slip out. “Not to mention, I woke up Asahi on the bus today. Asahi of all people! Then when we walked back I didn’t even say anything! I got so caught up in my own thoughts that I didn’t even realize how awkward I was being…”
You paused, realizing what you just said. Your hands flung up to conceal the blush now forming as you muttered something incoherent about not meaning to say that.
“Honestly (Y/N), I think it’s pretty funny how you react around someone like Asahi!” Yachi giggled. Kiyoko must have been pointing things like that out to her…
Kiyoko smiled at you. “She’s right, you know. It’s almost like you two switch personalities when you’re together.”
You turned your body to face them. “T-that’s not true!” you argued. The massive blush on your ears and face said otherwise. “I’m still the same person!”
The bathing room went suddenly quiet as if they were silently disagreeing with you. You turned to face forward again. It was if there was still another question that hung in the air that remained unspoken. “(Y/N)?” It was Yachi that spoke up.
“Yeah?” you asked somewhat hesitantly.
“You’re not...nervous to tell him you like him… are you?” Yachi asked. Your breath shuddered. There it was, that unspoken question. While it might seem normal for a person to be nervous to tell someone they liked them, much less to feel nervous about other things, ‘nervous’ was not a trait among the Nishinoya siblings. In fact, no one believed you and Yuu have ever felt nervous before. Despite Yuu’s personality being different from yours, it’s still centered around that shared trait between the both of you. The Nishinoya siblings were known on the team for being the fearless ones, Yuu in his playing ability and happy-go-lucky attitude, and you with your confident decision making and ability to push each player to do their best. It’s what made you two so reliable. You and your brother never got nervous… right? You guessed maybe that should only be said of Yuu now. After all, how can someone have no fear if they can’t confess to a silly little crush…
Maybe that’s the reason you’ve never confessed. This entire time, you thought the reason you never told Asahi how you felt was because you didn’t want to mess things up between the two of you.
I’ve been lying to myself this whole time, you thought. But, I shouldn’t lie to my friends about it…
After a few more minutes of silence, you spoke up. “Yeah. I am nervous.” Both of your friends looked to you. As you continued, your voice became lower and quieter as you sounded out your thoughts slowly. “This entire time I’ve been telling myself that maybe it was better this way because he probably wouldn’t return my feelings, but I guess I’ve been stalling.”
“That’s ok (y/n)! It’s perfectly normal for someone to get nervous over someone they like!” Yachi reassured you.
“She’s right,” said Kiyoko, putting a hand on your shoulder. “Try to be yourself around him. He’s actually a lot more confident around you than you think, so it should be like having a conversation with someone like Daichi or Suga. Just try to take those baby steps, ok? If you talk to him tonight, tell us how it went afterward.”
You smiled timidly at your two friends. “Okay, I will.”
___________________________________________________________
You stared at your phone and groaned. 9:00pm.
The boys would not shut up.
While Kiyoko and Yachi were settling down into their own sleeping areas, you calmly went over and asked Daichi if he could settle down the boys a little. That was 30 minutes ago…
Oh well, you thought. Kiyoko and Yachi were asleep now, so you thought it would be fine. It had been a while since the team got to hang out as just a plain group of chaotic high school boys rather than a serious volleyball club. They’re on this trip to have some fun too.
But if they're not quiet by 10:00, you’re definitely making sure they actually fall asleep.
With a sigh, you turned off your phone and made your way across the dark room. Careful not to wake your friends, you tiptoed to your bag in the corner and fished out your favorite pajamas: an old yet suitable t-shirt and a fuzzy pair of light orange shorts.
After changing, you grabbed your small toiletry bag and walked out of the room. Across from the girl’s room was a small washroom that was shared among all three of the rooms. You were sure that no one would enter since all the boys were in their room and Ukai and Takeda went drinking again. The washroom was completed with two sinks surrounded by a wooden counter, and a public toilet further back in the room.
You set your stuff down on the sink closest to the door. As you started to brush your teeth, you questioned if you should stay up longer tonight than usual. You didn’t feel that tired yet, and you did hear that there is a balcony near the rooms.
You leaned over the sink to spit before faintly hearing the door open. You quickly spit out the excess toothpaste and wiped your mouth on your sleeve before looking to see who stood in the doorway.
“(y/n)?” Asahi stared back at you with his wide brown eyes. He had switched his tracksuit for a plain white t-shirt and a pair of grey sweats, which you assumed was his sleepwear. He had a small green bag under his arm. Was he washing up too?
“Oh, I’m sorry I thought no one would come in here,” you tried to laugh about it as you quickly started to pack up your toiletries. Damn, you’re just acting nervous around him again!
“No! You can stay, I’ll just come back later,” he smiled politely and turned to leave.
“Wait!” you called before you even realized what you were doing. Asahi turned to look over his shoulder, surprised. Baby steps rang in your head as you took a breath and said “There’s another sink if you want to use it…”
Asahi peered over your head. “Oh! Sure...” He walked past you to the other sink and you turned to your own bag. As you brought out a comb to run through your hair, Asahi started to run the water in his sink as he fished out his own toothbrush.
Almost on instinct, you started talking to yourself in your own head, even when you desperately wanted to talk to the boy next to you. Should I even say anything in the first place? No… baby steps (y/n)! Remember! Ok, what should I say? “So how do you think tomorrow will go?” No, the tension for tomorrow is already high enough. “Nice… weather? here? in? Tokyo…?” Goddammit why is this so hard-
You sighed through your nose and put your comb back. As you looked for the next thing you needed to find in your bag, your eyes slowly drifted to Asahi. He was looking at himself in the mirror as he ran a knuckle along his jaw and muttered something about needing to shave. You assumed he decided against it as he fished out a brush and a bottle of… detangler?
One part of Asahi was happy and glad that you were sharing the washroom with him. But, the majority of him was feeling like an anxious wreck. It was only three hours ago when Asahi had promised his friends that he would finally confess his feelings to you. And now you’re here with him, alone, and you haven’t spoken a word to each other. Maybe he should say something about it now, close the gap he so desperately wanted to reach. Was he ever going to get a good enough opportunity such as this (even if it was in a washroom…)?
As Asahi got out his brush and detangler, he decided that maybe he would just talk to you for now… yeah. But, what is there to talk about-
“Is that lavender detangler?”
He raised his eyebrows and turned to look at you. You looked first at the detangler in his hand, and then up at him with a quirked eyebrow and wide, expecting eyes. You held your face wash in one hand and a hair tie in the other. And those pajamas you were wearing… gosh you looked so cute.
“Oh… yeah. It’s kind of weird I guess,” Asahi chuckled and scratched the back of his neck.
“No, not at all,” you replied matter-of-fact. “I was actually kind of wondering why some parts of the gym smelled like lavender and I was trying to figure out who it was!” You laughed. It’s true, some corners of the gym started smelling oddly great (for a gym especially). When you asked Kiyoko and Yachi if they had bought new perfume, they both replied with no, and so you became suspicious.
When you turned away to wash your face, Asahi took out his bun and began his own nighttime routine. Your butterflies fucking exploded as you rubbed the face wash gently into your skin and listened to the soft spurts of his detangler.
___________________________________________________________
For the rest of your time in the washroom, both you and Asahi held great conversation. Though the time was little, the detangler topic led to both of you complaining about your hair consistency, to what color you both would want dye your hair, to favorite colors, to favorite school subjects, and then finally to what you were talking about now, favorite parts about school.
“Well that’s easy. Being the manager for the team,” you replied nonchalantly.
“Really?” Asahi packed up the rest of his things in his little bag and turned to you. He left his hair down. You were leaning against the door, your own bag under your arm. Seeing him with his hair down is having you battle the flutter in your stomach as you try to get used to the new sight.
“Well yeah, but I guess I have to thank Yuu though after all. If he didn’t play volleyball I would probably be tripping over myself in a dance club or something!” You both laughed.
He was still laughing as you caught a glance of his face. You wanted to see his smile more. You wanted to hear him laugh more. You just wanted to keep talking to him. This is the first time you’ve been able to have a normal conversation with him without stumbling over your words and you did not want it to end this quickly. But at the same time, you probably shouldn’t keep him if he’s tired.
Asahi felt a little conflicted inside. It was clear that both of you were done washing up, but he still wanted to confess, but… well maybe now isn’t the time after all. It was still great to talk to you though.
You opened the door and walked past the doorway. “So um, are you going back to the room?”
“Well, I guess. But I probably won’t be able to sleep because of the noise. That’s the reason I came to wash up a little earlier.” Asahi responded. The moment was slipping away...
Maybe that’s one thing to thank the boys for. But is there some way to keep talking to him? He obviously doesn’t want to be by the rest of the team. Maybe you could save him from them for a couple of minutes. But where-
“Um… a-are you tired?” This was about to take a lot of courage from you…
“N-no…?” Asahi was a little confused by your question. What were you about to ask him?
“Do you wanna go hang out on the balcony for a bit?” You finally said it. A huge weight was lifted from your shoulders, but the even larger weight remained as you waited for his answer. You squeezed your hands behind your back and gulped. You prayed that he didn’t notice how nervous you were…
Asahi just stared at you for about 2 seconds, because 2 seconds was all his brain needed to overcompensate and overthink everything you just said. Did you say hang out on the balcony? As in like, with you? Alone? Together? No one else is there, right? Why? Just to keep you company? Because he said that he didn’t really want to be by the rest of the loud and obnoxious team? Did you really care enough about that to invite him on the balcony? Did you actually like talking to him?
No, that couldn’t be true…
Right?
“Yeah. We could do that.”
___________________________________________________________
You stood on the balcony, eagerly awaiting Asahi. You leaned over the railing as you took in the cold evening. The wind blew just enough to leave a slight shiver through your body and stir your hair. The lights and sounds of Tokyo filled your senses as you watched the bustling city from afar. You took a look up. The pollution of Tokyo meant you couldn’t see stars, but you imagined they were there. There wasn’t a single cloud in the sky, save for the occasional airplane flying to or from the city. You brought your gaze back down and stared forward in silent thought.
Asahi was grateful that you had arrived at the balcony first after you both left to put away your toiletries. He tried his best to get into the room to put his things away, grab his jacket, and be out of the room where the boys were now playing truth or dare. Noya caught him and tried to convince him to join in, but he politely refused and left without another word. He would have to explain himself later.
And now, there you were. You didn’t notice him behind you on the balcony. His gaze softened as he took a moment to admire you.
You were the only thing that immediately captured his attention, as always. Not the blinding lights of the city beyond, not the atmosphere around him, just you, with your back turned to him as you faced Toyko. Asahi’s breath hitched in his throat. It was in that moment that he realized that nothing else mattered. Not even breathing mattered. The lights weren’t as beautiful, the city wasn’t as loud, and the chill in the air wasn’t as prominent. Everything else seemed to dull and fade, leaving only you.
Why?
There was just something more captivating in the way your hair flowed in the wind that he seemed to forget that the wind was the reason your hair moved so fluently. The way you were standing and observing the view, almost as if you didn’t know that if everything else had eyes, then everything would be gazing and admiring you just like he did every day. The way your eyes were shining so perfectly ahead that the stars would become jealous and try to take that shine, but he would never let them because no matter how high and mighty the stars might be, no matter how many of them there were, you were so much more above them in his own eyes.
His thoughts were broken when your body jerked in a slight shiver. He realized that you had forgotten a coat because you were still wearing the same pajamas.
It was a lot windier than you thought it would be. You wrapped your arms around yourself and rubbed your bare arms. You were in such a hurry to put your things away that you didn’t have time to consider the weather.
You jumped when you felt a slight pressure on your shoulder, and then something laying across them. As you reached your hands up to feel what it was, you ran your fingers across the material of a jacket, and then heard the shuffling of someone next to you. Then you realized…
Asahi was here, and he gave you his jacket.
You turned to look at him. He was standing about a foot away from you to the right. He had his elbows propped against the balcony railing as he leaned against it. His shoulders caved slightly inward as he stared at the ground. His eyes were casted downward in a way that he almost looked ashamed, but if not, then just lost in thought. A slight tint splayed itself across his cheeks from the cold. The wind moved through his long brown hair like a dance and ruffled his white shirt against the muscle that laid beneath.
Your heart caught in your chest. Your breathing stopped as you clutched the jacket.
This was a new sight. He didn’t look scared. He wasn’t smiling. He wasn’t sleeping. He didn’t look exactly concentrated either.
He looked… ethereal.
His eyes caught yours and he stood a little straighter. “I-I… you looked cold… so… sorry if it’s weird...” His eyes casted off as he spoke. He’s adorable.
“N-no” you assured. “Not at all! Um, thank you...”
“You’re welcome... “ he smiled at you before looking down again. It was odd. It wasn’t like his body was anxious, more like just his eyes were. Could he… maybe? Unless he was just trying to be nice.
You looked down and held the jacket closer to you. Your blush was growing by the second. It may be a possibility. The jacket smelled like the lavender detangler and cedarwood. Not only that, it was warm. It smelled and felt like him, like your Asahi. Well, he wasn’t yours just yet.
Just yet.
Asahi didn’t even know why or how he managed to give you his jacket. He just felt a surge of feeling that had him act. He knew it was love, but at that moment, he never felt it so strongly. It was almost as if it were his instinct to want to make you feel happy and comfortable. Maybe he should act on that more.
Maybe he should act on that now.
You talked up first. “So, um…” you mumbled just loud enough to be audible. “How are you feeling… about tomorrow?” You instantly regretted the words as they left your mouth. You couldn’t think of another topic, so you just blurted the first thing that came to mind.
“Um… well, if I said I was feeling alright about it, I would obviously be lying,” he chuckled.
“Well, I think you’ll be alright once you get out there and kick ass like always,” you said, trying to ease his nerves. You sounded so sure of yourself. That was new, especially around Asahi.
“(y/n)...”
“Yeah?”
“Thank you for supporting me…” he faced you as he leaned against the railing, smiling at you, though he didn’t make eye contact. “It really means a lot…”
You gave him your best smile while clutching his jacket. “No need to thank us. We all have to push our ace so he can do his best!”
He blushed. Something popped into his head, and before he could stop himself, he said it out loud.
“No one pushes me to do my best as much as you, though.” He scared himself when he said it. He couldn’t even turn away. He just… looked at you. You were still so captivating. So much so that his anxiety and fears couldn’t even distract him now.
You blushed. Did he just say that? Did he… there was almost no doubt now. Your heart started to beat so loud that you couldn’t focus on your own thoughts. You could only focus on him.
You were looking at him with those beautiful eyes again. This was it. Now. He had to do it now.
“(y-y/n)...”
“Yeah…?” You turned to him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He couldn’t stop staring at you.
So captivating.
There you stood, patiently waiting.
“Asahi, are you-”
“I love you, (y/n).” And that’s when the words began to tumble out. “I can’t believe I’m doing this… but it’s the truth. Ever since you became a manager for our team, I’ve never been able to get you out of my head and... and, I’m not sure how to feel about it. You’re just beautiful, and strong, and perfect… A-and I want to give you everything. I want to give you… more than everything really. But I’m just...I’m just…”
He kept his eyes closed the entire time, brows furrowed and hands glued to his sides as he spoke. Were you actually hearing this? The person you’ve loved for so long confessing that he loves you-
You felt this buzzing, warm feeling inside your heart. It spread like wildfire throughout your body, burning you and your senses down to the one source of the truth behind the flames which is that he. loves. you.
He squinted as he opened his eyes to look at you. You looked… confused. You just kept staring at him. He felt this cold shiver as his cheeks flushed in embarrassment. He clenched his fists. Here it was, you were about to reject him. Why did he even try-
“I love you too, Asahi.”
“What?”
“What?”
For a moment you two just stared at each other. You both couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Meanwhile, the same fire was spreading throughout Asahi. Burning down all insecurities, all negative thoughts. It was just that one fact.
You love him too.
And like fire, it spread throughout both of you quickly. Burning, destroying, until it bubbled over and-
That space between you ceased to exist as you stood on your tippy toes, grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, and kissed him. You didn’t know what you were doing, but you didn’t care. You’ve waited too long to tell him how you’ve felt and this kiss lifted the last weight from your consciousness. You didn’t have to pretend. You didn’t have to be nervous. You were free.
Asahi didn’t know how to feel at first. Was this actually happening? Were you… kissing him? Well, of course he knew that but he never thought it would happen.
He wasn’t kissing back. You opened your eyes and leaned back, separating you from his lips. Was that too far? “Ah, s-sorry I thought-”
You were cut off by him quickly swooping in and returning the kiss while leaning down to wrap his arms around your waist. You closed your eyes and kissed him back, wrapping your arms around his neck and tangling your hands in his long hair. His lips were warm and surprisingly soft. You giggled as the scruff from his stubble tickled you. His kiss was so gentle that it was as if he thought you were a porcelain doll, and that if he put too much of himself on you, that you would break. It was loving and sweet, and filled with as much care as he could give you.
When you both leaned back, he looked down at you. So small. So amazing.
So perfect.
Those were his words before he leaned again, pressing himself closer to you. Your back steadied itself against the railing as you continued kissing him. His hands travelled to cup your face, one hand resting itself against your soft skin and the other running itself through your hair. This kiss was just like the last but filled with more need and passion. The fire was growing. Here, nothing else mattered. The lights didn’t matter, the air, the city. Just you, with your lips on his.
When you leaned back again, he smiled as you kissed him on the nose. “Not as perfect as you,” you replied. You laughed as his face scrunched in confusion, and then when he realized what he had said out loud before he kissed you.
“So, uh, does this mean… W-well, only if you want to of course! But, ah, what I’m trying to say is-”
“Yes Asahi, I’ll be your girlfriend,” you said to him while rolling your eyes and smiling. It seemed that after your kiss, your confidence had returned. How could he kiss you like that but not be able to ask you out? He’s so awkward, and handsome, and yours.
Both of you chuckled, finally before leaning in again. Finally yours.
That’s when you heard the metallic door on the other side of the balcony open.
“HEY ASAHI- woah”
___________________________________________________________
"So that's when I opened the door, and Asahi and (y/n) were making out, and-"
"Noya, stop-" Asahi pleaded.
"Dang, who knew that Asahi had game," Tanaka wheezed.

haikyuu!! neurodivergent headcanons 💕
tw: several listed mental illnesses, some of these are solely off of vibes but most of them I have reasons lol note! I do not believe autism is a mental illness or something that is "wrong" with an individual, hence why the title is "neurodivergent" rather than "mental illness". just had to put that out there! to all my neurodivergent babies I love you! a/n: hello! as a neurodivergent like myself (depression, anxiety, ptsd, bulimia, etc etc) i thought it would be really cool to do an analysis on one of my biggest hobbies (psychological illnesses) and relate them to haikyuu characters! some of them have a deeper explanation because I feel so strongly about it.
attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD) BOKUTO, hinata, NISHINOYA, atsumu, lev
generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) sugawara, OIKAWA, asahi, yamaguchi, yachi, aone, akaashi, tendo
social anxiety disorder (SAD) asahi, KENMA
post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) oikawa
depression (MDD) oikawa, KENMA, kuroo, suna, matsukawa, tendo
autism sakusa, USHIJIMA, kageyama, kyotani, kenma
eating disorder(s) (AND, BND, BED) OIKAWA, KENMA
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) oikawa
borderline personality disorder (BPD) daishou
insomnia kuroo, kenma, osamu
hypersomnia suna
analysis under the cut
it's pretty obvious that bokuto struggles the most to self-regulate, even to others, but I personally believe that oikawa struggles the most with his mental health.
like almost everyone in haikyuu, oikawa is obsessed with volleyball, but he takes it to a point of overexertion and taking his anger and frustration at his own inadequacies out on others.
I really think oikawa's relationship between he and kageyama and he and ushijima are the ones that show how bad his anxiety is
ushijima and kageyama both don't understand the emotions oikawa is feeling which could be written off as them not understanding their talents, but I think it's something more
to me, I feel it is blatantly obvious that ushijima is autistic. he just so frequently seems to be unable to read the emotions of others or takes things literally when it's something else intended. I'm not autistic, though, so autistic community, let me know your thoughts!
bokuto and hinata both have an insane amount of energy, but struggle to be successful in school. sports works for both of them because their focus is constantly needed to be diverted or "all over the place" that it helps them be great players
kuroo is one of those other characters that I feel like I'm reaching to say he has mental health struggles but to me it just comes off in vibes. first of all, any kid with divorced parents should be in therapy so I feel there's definitely some struggles there.
I think kuroo is the type that hides his struggles and pretends they aren't happening. he puts a lot of pressure on himself to be the best at everything he does, and so he feels he doesn't have time to deal with the emotions that leave him feeling empty
kenma was someone I immediately felt was autistic. he has so many key factors like an obsession/hyperfocus on his hobbies and trouble socializing (social anxiety).
kenma has some of the strongest evidence toward my beliefs, specifically in this quote: "I'm not good with people, and I don't want to interact with them. and yet, I'm very concerned about what others think of me." like, tell me that doesn't radiate autistic/SAD vibes!!!!
idk what it is, like inadequacies or what but I genuinely believe oikawa has some kind of trauma. like he's definitely carrying something that so heavily effected him that it controls the choices he makes in life
I don't have much evidence that suna has depression, it's just a vibe because of his mannerisms and what he says. I think it's the kind where it's well-managed, but it shows up in physical symptoms like apathy more than anything.
atsumu gives ADHD vibes solely because of like how all over the place he is and how he can't always seem to properly get out what he's trying to say lol
sakusa is one that to me could be seen as "done with your bullshit" but I think he also hates crowds (like me, I mean who doesn't) and struggles socially probably because of anxiety or autism. not sure!
basing daishou off of vibes, too, because if I'm being honest all I've seen in the show is him having hostile relationships or being on-off with them, though its certain I could be reading too much into it, but that's the fun of headcanons.
do you agree with what I wrote? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Hiii \(゚∀゚)/
Sooo what do you think about the Haikyuu! Movie without knowing anime? 😀
(I'm sending this ask to discuss our impressions in the comments (and recommend this series a bit haha)
Have a nice day ♡
hiiii!! i didn't realize this was going to become a full-on essay so 💀 apologies in advance for the long-windedness. i don't blame you if you don't feel like reading all the way through lmao (there is a tl;dr at the end if that's the case)
my sister actually got into haikyuu after S1 (pretty much a decade ago at this point 😭) so i've at least known about it and understood the gist of it for a while now. i myself didn't get into anime until a few years ago though! so i've been slowly building up my watch catalog. normally i like funny animes so haikyuu definitely fits the criteria, but due to the fact that 1) it's a sports anime 2) i have very little interest in sports and 3) there would be a LOT of episodes to catch up on, it's just been sitting in my to-watch list for years lmaooo
as i started to follow more people on tumblr, i also started to see more haikyuu content, so i recognized some characters just by their appearance (hinata [obviously], but also kenma, kageyama, and atsumu miya [the guy with the undercut, who i don't remember seeing in the movie]). but anyway, my sister had been saying she wanted to watch the movie once it came out. and over the weekend, i happened to see a lot of people posting about going to watch the movie so i told her we should go! and so we did!
the movie was so hilarious and i thoroughly enjoyed watching!! the rivalry between the 2 teams was sooo funny. i knew i was going to like the movie, but it did end up being a little bit fast-paced for me cause i basically dived in with like. 0.4 background,,,, like ya girl was strUGgLinG trying to keep up. but that's no one's fault but my own 😔 i was kind of hoping it'd be like the demon slayer mugen train movie (which is actually what got me into anime! but that's besides the point). where the premise would be simple enough that you wouldn't need that much context before watching. i knew the movie would basically be just one really long volleyball game so i figured it would be fine... alas, i was wrong 😭 i don't know the rules of the game or any of the characters/their positions so it was all i could do to just watch and try to understand everything as it was happening ;-;
another thing i wanna mention is that now that i've long since graduated from my "beginner weeb" phase and become a full-on weeb, i'm familiar with a lot of voices and voice actors so it's difficult for me to see new characters and their voice actors (that i already know from somewhere else) as one entity 🤔 i'm not sure if that makes a lot of sense ><
for example: the whole time we were watching the movie, i felt like kenma sounded a lot like yuki kaji (who voices shoto [mha] and eren [aot])?? but also didn't at the same time. it was bothering me the whole 2 hours but i looked it up after it was over and i was right 😩
i also immediately recognized kuro as gojo [jjk]/hawks [mha]/greed [fma]; so kuro wasn't even kuro to me, he was just a volleyball au gojo with a completely different look 😭 i feel like that kind of gets in the way of my viewing experience personally, because i couldn't pause and think about where i know this voice from (like i usually do when i start a new anime). but it bOThERs mE because it's like on the tip of my tongue and my mind caNnOT rEST until i confirm my suspicions 😩
anyway, going in, the only people i knew about were like. hinata and kageyama... and it was surface-level knowledge at best. but i've seen kenma around enough where i recognized his character design so i thought i might like him. and he ended up being super cute!! i loved him, but i also really loved kuro (he is very handsome 🥰) and the tall glasses guy from karasuno. he was funny as fuck. but i'm definitely interested in watching the show to see what other lovable goofs the story has to offer. i'm always on the hunt for more blorbos
tl;dr basically i loved the movie, i thought it was really funny; now i have to actually watch the show so i can really enjoy the experience the movie had to offer. the production was honestly great. my sister wants me to get caught up so we can watch it again while it's still in theaters lmao. we'll have to see about that... the first 2 seasons are 25 eps each and then there are at least a few more seasons (even if they are less eps) after that 💀 when i got into mha last year, i was able to blast through 6 seasons within a week,,, but that costed me 3 full days worth of binge-watching and several work nights to catch up 😩 idk if i can do that again
thank you for the ask and interacting with me 🥺🫶 i know your day just started so i hope it goes well!! have a nice rest of the week also <3

-Last Time-
“AAAA” Asahi yells, frightened.
“GAAAH!!” Tanka yells worriedly.
“HINATA!!!” You scream, quickly running over to him.
You get to Hinata first, with the others arriving right after.
“Hinata! Are you okay?” You ask worriedly.
“...! OWWWW…” He replies.
“Aha! He lives!” Noya says.
“You okay, bro?” Tanaka asks.
“OHMYGOD. OHMYGOD. OHMYGOD. Are you okay I’m sorry I’m sorry!!!” Asahi panics.
“It’s his own stupid fault for zoning out like an idiot.” Tsukishima says nonchalantly.
“Tsukishima! Quit!” You scold, earning a “tch” and an eye roll.
“A-Ambulance! C-Call an Ambulance!!” Takeda freaks out.
“Calm down, sensei.” Ukai says.
Hinata begins to sit up, so you help him by telling him to move slowly.
“Oh, uh, it’s okay. I’m fine. Sorry to make you all worry.” Hinata says, rubbing his head.
“You sure? Maybe you should sit out a rally or two…” Daichi says.
“No! I’m fine! I promise!” Hinata says quickly. “I just…didn’t dodge all the way in time. Besides, I’m used to getting hit in the face!” ‘You shouldn’t be though…’ You think sweat dropping. “I’m very sorry!”
“Don’t be.” Suga smiles. Before you can say anything you feel a very familiar dark aura. You and Hinata look at the source, Kageyama. He’s pretty pissed off.
“What’d you think you were doing? Zoning out in the middle of a rally…” Kageyama asks.
“Um! Uh! I, ah!” Hinata tries to respond but he’s too scared.
‘The fact that Kageyama isn’t yelling is not a good thing…’ You think and know that Hinata is thinking the same thing.
“I know what you were thinking.”
“?!”
“You were thinking about how cool the Ace is but that all you’re good at is being a decoy, which is stupid and boring. You were wishing you were as tall and strong as Asahi so you could be an Ace too.”
“Enough Kageyama…” You say but are ignored.
“I…I was not!” Hinata defends but only earns a glare from Kageyama. “O-Okay…so, uh…maybe a little.”
“Once you realized our team had an Ace…aside from all the idolization or whatever…you got jealous.” Kageyama begins. “Quit letting your brain wander off onto stupid crap during a game.”
“...So I got a little jealous. So what?”
“Hinata…” You say softly.
“YOU’RE BIG AND TALL AND SKILLED ALREADY! YOU COULD NEVER UNDERSTAND WHAT IT’S LIKE FOR ME!!”
“Guys. Stop!”
Suddenly the gym doors open. An older man is standing in the doorway.
“Hey! What are you all still doing here? It’s time to close up!” He says. “Hurry and clean up.”
“Excuse me!” Takeda begins. “Could we please at least finish this game first?”
“But it’s awfully late…”
“I’ll take responsibility and supervise everyone!”
“Well…”
“Once we’ve finished, I will do all the final checks and make sure everything is properly locked up.”
You look at Hinata and see he’s sad and embarrassed. You go over to him.
“...Hey…Hinata…” You softly say. He looks at you. “Are you okay?” HE puts on a fake smile.
“Yup! All good!”
“You don’t have to fake it with me.” He looks slightly shocked and drops his “smile.”
“It’s my fault for delaying the game…”
“You can’t blame yourself. You got hit in the head with a volleyball. At least you wanted to continue playing. Others would’ve taken Daichi’s offer of sitting out.”
“But then I had to go and yell at Kageyama for it.”
“What Kageyama did and said was completely uncalled for. You were upset and defending yourself. It was admirable.” This causes Hinata to blush.
“Thanks, (Y/N).”
“You’re welcome. Now…Are you hurting anywhere? Do you have a headache? Dizzy? Nauseous?”
“N-No. I’m okay. I promise.”
“Good.” You lightly punch his shoulder. “Don’t make me worry like that!”
“! I-I’m sorry! I-I didn’t -” Hinata can’t finish his statement because you suddenly hugged him.
“But I’m glad you’re okay.” You say hugging him tighter. This causes Hinata to turn bright red. You stop hugging him just as Takeda closes the gym door.
“Sorry, Sensei. Thanks for that.” Daichi says and Takeda turns around and gives him a thumbs up. “Okay, everyone! Let’s get back to playing!”
The game is about to resume but Kageyama gets Asahi and Takinoue’s attention.
“This rally.. I’m going to set the ball for him.” He says pointing to Hinata. “Please try as hard as you can to block him.” Hinata, Takinoue, and Asahi look at him confusedly. ‘What are you playing at Kageyama?’ You wonder.
“Hey, Hey! You trying to taunt us now?” Takinoue asks, annoyed.
“Yes, sir!” It’s a blatant taunt! I’m sorry for being disrespectful!!” Kageyama replies bowing. This shocks both you and Takinoue.
“Ha! Well aren’t you a gutsy kid! I like that! Okay, Then! We’ll take you up on that!” Takinoue replies.
“Thank you, sir!” Kageyama says before staring at Asahi intently and then walking away.
“What the heck is that rookie thinking? A quick set is effective precisely because you can’t predict it. Telling the other guys it’s coming means he’s gonna run smack into a triple block. And if that happens short stuff doesn’t stand a chance.” Ukai comments.
“...True…” Takeda begins. “If he runs headlong into a block…that may be the case, yes.” He finishes as Ukai looks at him questioningly.
‘Augh! Stupid Kageyama. What’s he doing telling the other team what we’re going to do next? There’s no way I can punch the ball through blockers that tough. He knows that!’ Hinata thinks nervously before looking at Kageyama, whose back is turned, frustrated.
“Hinata. The way you are right now…you suck. You’re a scrub who’s fast and kinda knows how to jump. That’s it.” Kageyama says darkly.
“...?”
“The Ace is a player who can put the entire team on his back and carry it.” Kageyama continues. “That’s someone you’ll never be.”
“!!” Hinata looks like he’s going to cry.
“Hey, um. Don’t you think…” Asahi begins,
“Yo, man!” Tanaka says.
“BUT!” Kageyama continues again, interrupting Asahi and Tanaka. “As long as you’re with me, you’re the greatest!!” Hinata looks at the setter in shock. “Yeah, Asahi-san’s spikes are super powerful! And yeah, he can go straight through even a triple block!”
“Huh?! Um! N-Not all the time…No, but…” Asahi stutters at KAgeyama’s words.
“Stop acting so modest!” Noya scolds the Ace.
“So what about you? All the times I’ve put the ball up for you… have you ever run into a block? Ever?” Kageyama asks, earning another look of shock from the middle blocker.
The whistle is blown and Shimada serves the ball. Ennoshita receives it as Hinata looks at the other team's blockers and begins getting intimidated.
“Dodge!!” Kageyama yells, pulling Hinata from his thoughts. “It’s not like there’s anything else you can do…you scrub!!”
Hinata runs to the left side of the court with the opponent's blockers following him. He bends his legs and swings his arms back getting ready to jump. ‘That’s right. If we can’t go through…’ Hinata thinks.
“We go around.” He says before jumping back and running to the right side of the court. This surprises Asahi, Takinoue, and Ukai.
‘I hate getting blocked! I hate getting stopped!!’ Hinata thinks as he jumps into the air. ‘If even one blocker gets up in front of me…there’s no way I can beat it the way I am now. I can’t play like the Ace plays. But…! “As long as you’re with me…you’re the greatest!”’ Hinata spikes the ball, surprising everyone, and earns his team a point.
“Yeah, you’re no Ace! But with your speed…your jumps…and my setting…we can take on any blockers out there!” Kageyama declares. “The point the Ace scores by busting through a block…and the point you score by going around them…It’s still a point! Even if you don’t have the fancy “Ace” label you rack up points in games! They pay attention to you, and follow you…and that frees up our other hitters! Including the Ace!! Right?!” Kageyama finishes and whirls his head toward Tanaka.
“Dwah?! Y-Yeah!” The second year begins. “He’s got a good point, Bro! There’s a huge difference in how well our offense works…depending on whether or not you’ve got your decoy game up and running.”
“Despite all that…do you still hate the part you play on this team?! Do you still think it’s boring and uncool?!” Hinata doesn’t answer. He stands still thinking until he looks at his stinging hand.
“...I don’t…”
“What?”
“I don’t think that!”
“Good!!”
Nishinoya is gaping at the two as Suga chuckles. Hinata looks at Asahi.
“That was a really amazing spike you did.” Asahi compliments the first year.
“!! Thank you!!” Hinata says with a blush.
“Hey, Kageyama…” You say catching his attention. He turns to look at you. “That was sweet. What you did for Hinata.” His eyes widen and a blush creeps to his cheeks. He doesn’t know how to respond. “But…maybe next time…be a bit nicer.” You say tilting your head to the side with a closed-eyed smile that’s a mix of sweet and threatening. Kageyama‘s blush increases so he looks away.
“W-Whatever…” He says.
“Awesome! Now I think you know what to do.” You say as the setter goes to Daichi.
“I’m very sorry for interrupting the game again!!” He apologizes as he bows.
“Um! N-No, it’s okay.” Daichi replies.
“We’re all finished now, so…” Kageyama begins as he stands next to Hinata.
“We’re ready to play!!” The two exclaim together.

i second the other anon, i would never get tired of you talking about noya!! also i wondered what you think the main similarities/differences between hinata and noya are? both have such high energy and i think both are very courageous and honest with their feelings that they sometimes feel similar to me, yet while i love hinata i'm just so much more drawn to noya for some reason
Thank you so much for this ask anon. Truly a gift to talk about my two favs
I agree they're similar in ways-both insane stamina and dislike pointing out they're short lol they have that similar character trait of goofy off court but intense on court which I love. Doesn't care about school but passionate about volleyball? That's beautiful. Also hair that makes them stand out in the hallway lol I think they both get intense when doubted as well. A fight response if you will.
When we meet Nishinoya he's already Karasuno's Guardian Deity. He went to a power house middle where he's voted best overall Libero. He's objectively great at what he does, but Nishinoya is never the one pointing it out and he's usually chastising himself. Yaku says it's dangerous he isn't full of himself for how talented he is.
Even against Inarizaki it's pointed out by even himself he'd probably be fine doing underhand receives, but if he knows the other option exists he should try. So for Nishinoya if you stick to what you always do because you're scared you're wasting new opportunities. He's never scared when they go into a match and Ukai says a few times him playing normally during intense matches is lucky cause it'll keep everyone calmer or he's the one still playing his best. It's why he's so cool to everyone on the team and easily inspires them. And why just playing volleyball forever would make him feel like he's missing out on great adventures/experiences.
Hinata's character is more about teaching yourself discipline to improve. In the beginning it's repeatedly mentioned by all characters that Hinata has no skill except jumping and his insane stamina from biking up that hill. His character arc is all about recognizing his weaknesses, teaching himself the basics/foundations he never got in middle/grade school, and learning to stand on his own without Kageyama. He also had to learn the line between pushing himself too hard and caring for himself. My fav timeskip Hinata bit is the quote about how he knows being okay isn't a guarantee so he works everyday until being okay is routine. I think that sums up his journey well.

General haikyuu headcanons
These aren't about any one haikyuu character. These are just any thoughts I have. Feel free to request headcanons for characters, squads or ships (platonic and romantic) or AUs. Please note I have already made some headcanon posts. While this doesn't mean i'll never write about those things again it Mey mean future headcanon posts about them are repetitive. They can be found on my ao3
- so a recent headcanon I had recently is that Akaashi and Tsukishima are like besties, or maybe not besties but I can see akaashi becoming something of a mentor to him
- Like it starts in tsukishima's first year when kuroo and bokuto drag him into practice with them. Even then we can see him to some extent turn to akaashi about how to approach the two and this situation and I can definitely see, in the future, tsukishima getting kidnapped to hang out with the three during a break from college and most of the time, while kuroo and bokuto are off in their own world, tsukishima and akaashi are just kinda chilling in the back, maybe making fun of them a little.
- also whenever tsukki is stressed by the chaos that is hinata, kageyama, and sometimes yachi and kageyama (he loves them but they can be a handful and it only gets worse when yamaguchi starts hanging out with them more and starts to adopt some of their mannerisms) he'll message akaashi as like a calming voice amidst the chaos
-he also goes to akaashi for advice on any problems he has with his teammates. Like he'll go to him for advice on how to bring up things that are bothering him because, while he can be as, well, tsukishima-like as he wants with his teammates from the previous year and they're used to it, he feels the need to try a different approach with the younger years. Idk why I think this it just came to me but we'll go with it.
- also I love the idea of kageyama, yamaguchi and kenma being some sort of friends and forming a weird mix of a socially awkward squad and emo squad. There are others in both, I haven't fully decided who yet but yachi and asahi are definitely in the socially awkward squad and maybe occasionally tsukishima but that's more because he's bad at feelings than because he cares what other people think. Either way they have a group chat where they can talk about the awkward situations they get into or just talk. It's kinda like a support group but any advice should be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe later they get some extroverts in to offer advice, idk.
- also tsukishima and kentaro being best friends or cousins or somehow related. I've read some amazing fics with this friendship. I love it.
- anyway when tsukishima and yamaguchi's year graduates, a big reunion is made of basically every team/person one of them has managed to befriend. Even oikawa comes back because, by this point, in my fantasy land, all the people in this year, including kunimi, kindaichi and kageyama, are friends. They've talked out any issues and, while they might not ever be on the same team for "just for fun" volleyball games, they're more than happy to play against each other and go out for meat buns after. Also idc what you say kunimi, kindaichi and kageyama were friends in middle school and that's why kindaichi (and kunimi, but he showed it less) were so hurt when kageyama changed.
- but anyway there's a big reunion, anyone who live abroad comes back for a week to see their kouhais and attend thus reunion. Its a fun night of talking and eating, good food and company, reminiscing on the past and discussing future plans. And maybe the older, already graduated setters decide to put on a little show (yes, this is them performing songs from six like I plan to have happen but haven't yet written in my singing AU. These things aren't usually linked but I've made an exception and, honestly idek if six was out when this year group graduated, but for the purposes of this headcanon,I'll say it was). And after that they go on to play professionally, or move away to practice more, or go to university, or whatever they do, but they stay in touch, and whenever they get the chance they'll meet up.
- sorry I just love the idea of everyone being friends. Km a suckered for fluff what can I say?
-also this isn't so much a headcanon as an appreciation post but I want it on record that I love akaashi. He's so observant and caring of his teammates but at the same time doesn't take any of their shit and will call them out. Also him just not letting bokuto lie or seem cooler than he is while also clearly caring about bokuto. I hear people talk so much about how pretty he is, and don't get me wrong he is very pretty, but he is so much more than a pretty face and he is a damn good setter.
- also when the karasuno first years become second years, they all admire akaashi, OK? Hinata admires anyone who's even remotely good at volleyball or says anything cool about volleyball, kageyama already looks up to him and this only increases when he manages to ask akaashi to teach him to set, or read his teammates better, and akaashi agrees and is kind. Also kageyama admires anyone who's even slightly good at setting. Tsukishima I've already discussed, but his respect for akaashi increases when he watches akaashi deal with the combined chaos that is hinata and kageyama with patience tsukishima knows he'll never have. Yamaguci and yachi admire his intelligence and how he manages to keep his cool. (Also if this admiration also leads to one or all of them developing a small crush, well no one needs to know, and if the others in their school and year know, well, let's just say they understand and there isn't too much teasing, though if kageyama develops a crush he gets teased the most bless him)
- all this to say akaashi harem supremacy

It's like I have a heart that has been broken into a hundred thousand pieces, all parts of which have been deprived of love.
"Obviously," the Tendou Satori said, watching the woman across him soullessly eat her third slice of cake. It made him happy that his friend enjoyed the cake, but to see that she was sad, it make him sad too. "I didn't think you'd come to me first."
"What, are you sick of me?" you asked sarcastically. You both laughed at that.
"Of course I'm very bored." said Tendou sarcastically in response. "I'm sick of making you chocolate cake."
You dropped your fork and leaned back. You sighed lightly, "I had nowhere to go-"
"Don't be silly, Japan is your home too. It may be your friends' home, but I'm sure they always have a place for you." The words he said while looking into your eyes, brought tears to your eyes.
"I know, but I couldn't go back right away. I really don't know why. I couldn't. I couldn't find the strength to go. I couldn't go." you said. You clasped both hands when a breeze came in from the shop.
You was holding your own hand; as always, as it should always be.
"I already spent the first two month alone. I lived inside without worrying about anyone. It didn't work out well, I won't lie." You laughed hysterically after that. "But that's how it was supposed to be."
"Don't be too hard on yourself, Y/N. You don't have to carry anything alone. Aren't those your words? I shouldn't use your words against you."
Tendou continued to watch you with his fist against his cheek as you continued to eat your cake.
"Actually, this wasn't where I first came from." When you said that, Satori raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"Are you betraying me, Y/N? Did you go Sweden to something to eat chocolate?"
He smiled when you chuckled. Making you smile was like gold to him. In fact, he felt that not only he, but everyone else thought so.
He frowned. "To Brazil?" when he said that you shook your head.
"Shoyo, Hinata Shoyo in Karasuno," you said. "He was playing beach volleyball in Brazil. To improve. I went to him. We played volleyball together and went to a wedding or something."
"Is he still in Brazil?" You shook your head no.
"After coming to him he would soon return. He was going to apply for league teams in Japan alone. It seemed impossible to be called because he had never been recognized." Talking about Hinata seemed to distract you. Just like eating.
"Wow, the shorty's going to play for the team like the others, huh?"
"I think he will rival Ushijima-san." You two smirked lightly when you said that.
"Wakatoshi-kun," the man said, stretching. "Kageyama and he are a fearsome duo."
"Don't forget about Korai. He plays very well too." you said scoldingly. Still, he knew that her favorite player was Romero. He was like everyone's favourite. He was a volleyball genius after all.
"You know you can stay here as long as you want, right?"
"I know," you said with a grateful smile. "But I plan to go in a few days-"
"You may be planning it Y/N-chan but you're here for at least 2 more weeks unfortunately." When you to object, Tendou ignored you and stood up. He brewed the boiling cherry stem tea.
"Satori-san," you muttered softly. The man fixed his curious eyes on you. "My heart is still very broken."
When your eyes met, Tendou felt something break inside him, too. Came behind the your chair placing his hands reassuringly on your shoulders.
"Whose love pain is over soon after all? Some people say that they forgot, but it continue to live inside them for days, months or even years. Some say that they forgot ten days later, but they live in silence for months, years. Some try to burn their memories brutally, they may succeed, but it hurts more to clear their ashes. Some good and beautiful women always cry." He wiped a tear from your left eye.
"They try to calm her love in her heart by shedding sad tears and crying." He said as the your tears kept flowing. You weren't even trying to delete it. Whoever has the cure for broken hearts, you both seemed ready to find it right now. But unfortunately nothing was invented that could glue broken hearts.
"It's a pity if you can't have a common future, but sometimes it's selfish to move on when you have another option."
"I don't know anything, I don't want to love him. I felt love when I with him. But now I just feel pain. My thoughts are always confused. I don't know what I'm saying, it's like I can't even think anymore." you said while speaking out of breath.
"I want to forget, I wish we never existed."
"Even when everyone forgets, you don't forget, but the pain in your heart will surely go away one day. And when it does, you begin to see your surroundings brighter and more vividly than you've ever seen." Tendou said, handing you one of the flowered napkins on the table.
Even if he said so, no one knew when that pain would subside and how long it would last.
Hi guys! This is my second story on Tumblr! I hope everyone who reads it enjoys reading it. If you like it, don't forget to fill the heart with love and follow me!

happy april 1st!
as promised, there will be no screaming, no jumpscares, and no discomfort. only silly chaos and chaotic silliness :)
anyway, here’s various hq characters’ go-to pranks, in no particular order:
tanaka: releases pigeons into the office of whichever staff member most recently pissed him off. last year, it was the teacher that was actively creeping kiyoko out, because tanaka found her mid-panic attack shortly before winter break. nothing had actually happened yet, just Bad Vibes(tm), so tanaka took matters into his own hands. (after clearing it with kiyoko, of course, and kiyoko approved) where does he get the pigeons? no one knows. who is his next target? rumor has it it isn’t a staff member at all, but a fellow student. rumor also has it that this student is a tall, blond first year with a sour attitude who mocked tanaka’s pigeon attack mercilessly when he heard about it. but that’s just rumor ;)
(more under the cut because this is turning out to be a longer post than i thought it would be)
yachi: she bakes oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. she tells people they are oatmeal raisin cookies. they eat them anyway when she offers, because no one can say no to yachi. they are shocked when they’re chocolate chip cookies. she is an evil mastermind and should be feared.
daichi: lets hinata and kageyama run practice. no one is ever the same again. daichi has no regrets.
takeda: he is absolutely the teacher that gives out tests of Very Silly instructions and says this is worth a large chunk of the final grade. kageyama falls for this Every Time. tsukishima fell for it once. this does not stop kageyama from bringing it up at every opportunity.
ukai: wears the most intense (obnoxious) outfit he can. last year, he went death metal goth, but he mostly only scared his parents. this year, rumor has it he was browsing clown costumes. there is a 99.99% chance that none of the team will recognize him - he goes hardcore with costumes.
kuroo: writes all of his texts in periodic table chemicals. as if, if he was trying to say “see you later”, he’d write “copper lanthanum tellurium argon” (Cu La Te Ar). everyone hates this. no one responds to his texts. the joy he gets out of it is disproportionate.
oikawa: speaks only in terrible pick-up lines. will not stop, even if iwaizumi tries to suffocate him.
matsukawa: only speaks in riddles.
hanamaki: only speaks in rhymes.
miya twins: swap hair colors. no one is fooled.
sugawara: swaps schools with his identical twin sister. pretends he’s her, and she pretends she’s him. confusion abound. she does successfully gaslight daichi and asahi. she does not successfully gaslight kiyoko, but sugawara still considers it a success.
ushijima: pretends he doesn’t like volleyball anymore. this prank fails, because all of shiratorizawa is so concerned that they actually call an ambulance. no one is laughing. ushijima is a little disappointed. tendou promises he’ll help him put together a better prank next year.
kiyoko: puts on red eye contacts. not everyone notices, but the people who do? Shook.
hinata: skips practice to show up at nekoma and surprise kenma. kenma is not as surprised as hinata would have liked, but he does invite him to join in on nekoma’s practice, so hinata still gets his volleyball fix.
kyoutani: flirts back when oikawa says a pick-up line to him. three dead, twelve injured. kunimi, the only teammate to have received a warning, catches oikawa’s reaction on camera. it is beautiful.
nishinoya: rides on asahi’s shoulders, wearing a truly massive trench coat. he spends the entire day giggling, and the teachers let him have his fun. they only almost die on the stairs twice.
bokuto: doesn’t understand the concept of a prank. buys people SO much candy and gives it to them, wanting/expecting nothing in return. everyone loves bokuto’s pranks.
tendou: puts salt in his teammates’ water-bottles. shirabu almost clocked him - the only reason the hit didn’t connect is that semi kicked tendou’s legs out from under him before it could, sending him crashing to the floor.
kageyama: doesn’t attempt homicide once all day. hinata is Spooked.
aone: talks all day. date tech: Gobsmacked.
yahaba: steals oikawa’s phone. changes all of the contact names to the most creatively unflattering personal descriptions. example: “iwa-chan <3″ becomes “almost normal man, except for the fact that he has the Worst taste in men” and “makki” becomes “kool-aid man if he didn’t see the sun for a decade”
futakuchi: dresses up like moniwa, wig and makeup to improve facial appearance very much included. koganegawa is so enamored by the idea that he does it too, despite not knowing moniwa very well.

atla au info (masterpost)
the hq atla au has been on my mind again and i figured i should make a new summary post so people know the lore!!! shout-out to @eurydicees who helped me a LOT and contributed a lot of ideas to the au. you are the best. oikawa's story would not be as interesting without you. thanks bestie.
anyway, i'm gonna try to be concise but this will probably get long. i like to ramble. au info under the cut!
the general gist of the au is the same as the show. long ago, the four nations lived in harmony but everything changed when the fire nation attacked. etc etc... you know the rest.
to make this easier for me, i'm just gonna sum up the major characters in the au and their roles. (and i'm including ages because they're aged down from hq canon a little, somewhat following the ages from atla)
HINATA (13): the avatar. his backstory is pretty much the same as aang's!! he grew up at the southern air temple and found out he was the avatar when he was 13. his friends no longer wanted to play with him because it wouldn't be "fair" and there was talk amongst the monks of sending him away from his guardian (i'm thinking... takeda? or maybe even ukai sr? open to thoughts on this!) so he ran away. he gets trapped in an iceberg for a hundred years and is found by suga! unfortunately, this is kind of it when it comes to hinata which is uh... not great. i should try to brainstorm more about him.
SUGA (16): waterbender. his backstory is very, very similar to katara's. he's the only waterbender in his village and so he's entirely self taught. his father is off fighting the war and his mother was killed during a raid when he was a child. he lives with his little brother and his grandmother. he finds hinata in the iceberg and ends up traveling with him!! he offers to be his waterbending teacher but it doesn't go as well as it could. suga's knowledge is unfortunately limited to what he has been able to figure out on his own. when they go to the north pole, they meet kageyama and suga realizes that kageyama is the teacher that hinata needs. he has a lot of complicated feelings about it but he doesn't say anything because kageyama teaching hinata is for the best. he instead opts to put all of his energy into getting back at healing - something he can do that kageyama can't.
he learns from kageyama alongside hinata but he himself also ends up teaching kageyama a lot. (how to be a good teacher, for one, lmao)
he's a bit of an older brother figure to all of the younger ones (hinata, kageyama, & the miya twins). the one who keeps them all on track and spends a lot of time defusing fights among them. pour one out for him. (he still gets his own mischievous moments though of course <33 he is a menace sometimes)
relevant posts: 01. 02. 03.
KAGEYAMA (12): waterbender, ends up being hinata's waterbending teacher. he grew up in the north pole with his grandfather. he has an older sister too but she left a while ago. he's an extremely talented waterbender and ends up ostracized by his peers because of this. (it doesn't help that he comes off as standoffish and abrasive) the only person who spars with him is his grandfather, who has also taught kageyama a lot of what he knows about waterbending. his grandfather dies and then he's left alone.
he meets hinata and suga when they arrive at the north pole and is surprised when suga approaches him later asking him to be hinata's teacher. it takes a lot of convincing but he eventually agrees and leaves the north pole with him. and he realizes that there's still a lot he has to learn too. (about how to be an effective teacher for one LMAO he is so bad at it at first)
relevant post: 01.
MIYA TWINS, mostly atsumu (14): earthbender!osamu, nonbender!atsumu. they're six when they find out that osamu is an earthbender and eight when they have to accept that atsumu isn't. atsumu learns how to fight as osamu gets better and better at earthbending. and he's pretty good. he learns a lot about how to hold his own against earthbenders from his fights with osamu. (sparring and regular sibling fights lol) he's beaten every earthbender in their village in a fight at least once and he never lets any of them forget it. despite this, he still feels a lot of resentment over not being an earthbender like osamu.
hinata comes to their village and, after seeing osamu spar against someone (i've been thinking of maybe still incorporating the underground fighting ring like in atla but idk), asks osamu to be his earthbending teacher. osamu says no at first which makes atsumu really angry and leads to a fight between the two of them. probably their biggest fight ever. still not sure what leads to osamu changing his mind but he does!! he has a condition though: he'll only go with them and teach hinata if his brother can come too. he's fully prepared to plead atsumu's case (excellent fighter, strategist, etc) but hinata agrees immediately. why would he say no? the more the merrier!
atsumu's story arc is basically becoming comfortable with being a nonbender and no longer lying when he says that it doesn't bother him. being the one to save benders on several occasions certainly helps. as well as his eventual friendship with another certain nonbender (oikawa).
osamu's is still up in the air though... sorry osamu.
relevant post: 01.
OIKAWA (16): son of the fire lord, nonbender. all he really wants is to prove himself to his father who has looked down on him ever since it became clear that oikawa wasn't a bender. he learns how to sword fight and how to strategize and how to chi block all so he can defend himself but also... because he wants to find something to show his father that he's worthy of being the crown prince of the fire nation. he's only 13 when he speaks up during a war meeting and is subsequently challenged to an agni kai by his father to "teach him a lesson". he is scarred and then sent away to search for the avatar. (this event plants the initial seeds of doubt in the fire nation)
despite everything that went down with his father, he still wants to find a way to earn his approval. maybe if he finds the avatar, he'll finally get it. (it doesn't matter what he does. it's never going to happen :/) his road to redemption is long but he gets there eventually. and he teaches hinata how to chi block :')
please, please check out the links below for more info. the others are kind of optional but i really think you should read these ones.
relevant posts: 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. (seriously, shout-out to eury for all of these. you are the mvp!!! all of your contributions were so so good. your brain is sooo huge)
IWAIZUMI (16): son of a high-ranking fire national general, oikawa's childhood friend, highly skilled firebender. he sneaks off to go with oikawa when he's exiled. because who else is going to protect him? iwaizumi's been doing it all his whole life. iwaizumi comes around a lot quicker, he saw firsthand what the fire lord did to oikawa and what that did to him, but he doesn't leave oikawa's side and still helps him with his quest. he helps oikawa on his journey to becoming a better person and he's right there with him when oikawa apologizes to hinata and the gang. (with apologies of his own, of course).
and he becomes hinata's firebending teacher!!!
USHIJIMA (16): son of a fire nation general, firebender. grew up near the palace with his mother. he and oikawa used to be friends but they grew apart as they got older and ushijima's firebending grew stronger. after oikawa is sent away, ushijima is taken under the wing of the fire lord who sees him as the prodigy son he never had. this only further solidifies oikawa's belief that ushijima has always looked down on him and always been looking to take his place.
relevant posts: 01. (linking to eury's post bc her tags are excellent) 02. 03. (more oikawa, atsumu, & iwaizumi info here too, i just didn't want to link it before i explained who ushijima was)
----
and... i think that's it for now? i'll update the post whenever there's more to add (mostly links to posts i think) but i tried to summarize each character's roles as best i can. hopefully i didn't forget anything.
i'm still open to brainstorming stuff about it :) i'm always open to hearing people's ideas!!!

Fear was a fickle thing. Sometimes it welled up when he’d expect it, like nearly losing his life while battling his worst fear. Sometimes it left him alone after an initial spike, allowing him to focus on dealing with the threat facing him, like with the ushi-oni and dragon the previous day. Sometimes it abandoned him when he really should’ve been a little scared, like when it took him eleven months to feel unsettled by the fact he didn’t know the shadow’s face.
And then sometimes it hit him when he wouldn’t expect it. Like that night, the night before he would finally see Oikawa again and plead for Tobio’s freedom. There was no point in being nervous just yet. He still had enough time to think over what he would say. The real nerves should have arrived in the morning, when he would be facing the castle head-on.
But no. Anxiety pressed against his throat, making him pick at the mouth-watering roasted meat Hajime had prepared.
“Hey.” He jolted, his attention jerking from the meat to Hajime. “Don’t get sick. I don’t have enough meat to give you a second serving.”
Hajime’s blunt concern brought a smile to Shoyo’s lips. “I won’t. I’m just…nervous. Really nervous.”
“Nervous to meet with Oikawa?”
Shoyo nodded. He had only faced the sorcerer for a handful of minutes, but that was all he needed to know that changing Oikawa’s mind about anything, much less the fate of his lover’s killer, would be nearly impossible.
But failure meant a life without Tobio. It had only been a year, and Shoyo already couldn't fathom it. "How…how do I convince him to let Tobio go?"
"He's not easily manipulated, and he suffers no fools," Hajime sighed. His grin was somewhere between fond and resigned. "But no matter how powerful he is, he's still human. Appeal to that. Remind him of his humanity, and of your own. You'd be surprised how far a bit of honesty and vulnerability can get you."
Shoyo nodded, eyes tracing Hajime’s handsome, rugged features. Unlike Tobio’s wolf form, Hajime’s didn’t take on the color of his black hair. His rich brown fur spoke more of his tan skin and the sun-brightened tips of his hair that shone brown in the light.
One thing he did have in common with Tobio were his eyes, and the way they kept their color in both forms. Even when he was a wolf, his eyes were a pretty hazel, with flecks of brown and gold that seemed to glitter when he smiled or wagged his tail.
How was he a wolf? Was he also cursed by Oikawa? Is that why he was helping Shoyo? And how could Shoyo ask?
“Hajime-san?”
“Yeah?”
“Were you also cursed to be a wolf?”
Oh. That worked.
A strangled sound broke out of Hajime, and for a moment, Shoyo was worried that he’d deeply upset him with the question. But then the other man looked up, and revealed watering eyes and lips pressed thin against laughter. “…Hajime-san?”
“Sorry!” Hajime gasped, a laugh escaping him. “Sorry, I’m not laughing at you, that’s a fair question! You just reminded me of a joke To— uh, a friend used to make. No, I wasn’t cursed. Not by a person. Just cursed by my family.”
“Your family?!”
“Yeah. My father’s lineage are shifters, of any animal. But I’m the only one who shifts.”
Shoyo blinked. “…Oh. Why doesn’t the rest of your family shift?”
Bitterness sharpened Hajime’s features. “…Had you ever heard of magic being real? Before Kageyama found you?”
“I…I heard rumors, but I thought they were just stories. I could maybe believe in magical creatures, but not a human sorcerer like Oikawa-san, y’know?”
Hajime nodded, his bitterness leaning towards anger. “There’s a reason for that. Magic played an important part in the feudal wars, but once they ended, sorcerers were forbidden from using magic. Something about the risk of them using their own magic to turn on the new emperor. He cared enough about optics to not actively hunt them down, but a simple rumor would be enough for him to justify arresting someone and eventually executing them.”
As he spoke, he began massaging his hand, thumb pressing over the toughest callouses. “The old sorcerers stopped using their powers, and their descendants mysteriously didn’t inherit any magic. People assumed that meant letting magic go stagnant would be enough to eradicate it. Stupid, honestly. Magic is still around, and so are magical creatures. People just can’t see them, and anyone with any sort of powers try not to use them.”
“And…that includes shifters.”
“Exactly.”
“But you still use your powers.”
A small smile softened Hajime’s gaze. “I do. Blame it on the bad influence of a friend. Anyway, I…I imagine Oikawa has a…similar story.”
Something told Shoyo that Hajime knew a little more than he was letting on, but he was more curious about something else. “Is that why you care about him letting Tobio go?”
Hajime blinked in surprise, before smiling again, impressed. “Yeah…yeah, you could say that. Oikawa has…probably had an unfortunate life, but he has a good one now, even…even now, without…”
“Without the man he loves?”
“…Right.”
The pleasant crackling of their small fire filled the silence that fell between them as Shoyo turned Hajime’s words over. A good life without the man he loved. He supposed he could have had something similar, if he hadn’t been so determined to save Tobio. He had his mother and sister, his friends, good work and a comfortable home…everything he had before the past year. And he had been happy, content, even.
But now the lack of Tobio would be tangible and bitter. He didn’t know what their life together would look like, if Tobio would go back to being hidden away and trained to take over as daimyo. Shoyo didn’t care, as long as Tobio was safe and happy and somewhere they could sneak some time together. It was almost scary, how empty his life would be without Tobio. And he’d had a good life, practically paradise compared to what Oikawa had been through. Now, the sorcerer didn’t have the one person who had made everything bearable.
Guilt churned in Shoyo’s stomach. “…I’ll do my best, Hajime-san.”
“Hm?”
“To help Oikawa-san. I’ll do my best.”
“Hey, no, don’t say that,” Hajime said with a shake of his head. “You came all this way to save the man you love, not to make his kidnapper come to his senses. At the end of the day, that’s a choice only Oikawa can make for himself. Don’t focus on him.”
Shoyo’s stomach still churned, but he nodded his head. “…What about you?”
“What about me?”
“Will you…do anything? To help him? Maybe you could…come with me?”
This time, Hajime shook his head with a sad smile. “No. I shouldn’t. If push comes to shove, I’ll…see what I can do. Otherwise I think I might do more harm than good.”
Shoyo had known that already, but a part of him had still hoped to have someone at his side while he was in Oikawa’s home. “You’ll be okay,” Hajime insisted. “You…probably don’t want to hear this, but…you and Oikawa aren’t so different. At the end of the day, you both want to save the person you love. You just have an actual chance to do so.”
Nerves crawled up Shoyo’s spine and burned in his throat as he nodded. Hajime watched him for a silent beat, before sighing, “Well…it’s getting late. You finish eating and get some sleep. I’ll keep watch.”
Shoyo opened his mouth to protest and ask to take first watch for once, but all that left him was a deep yawn. “…Alright,” he huffed. “Good night, Hajime-san.”
His dreams were riddled with whispers and shadows, chasing Shoyo down the familiar paths of his childhood woods, and further still into the forests of the mountains. He jolted awake before sunrise and couldn’t fall back asleep.
“Sorry,” he murmured when Hajime turned to him with a questioning frown. “Bad dream.”
Hajime hummed. “Do you want to get some more sleep?”
“Not…not really.”
“Alright.” The curve of his lips was kind and understanding. “Then let’s go. There’s not far left.”
He was technically right. The last leg of their journey was the shortest, but it also saw them climbing higher than before. It was like they left breathable air behind with the river, forcing Shoyo to slow his pace until his lungs adjusted to the thinner air.
Hajime was somehow unaffected, though Shoyo supposed that made sense, if he lived on the island. That didn’t ease his embarrassment as the other swordsman paused for a third time to wait for him to scramble up a rock. “You good?”
“M’fine,” Shoyo grunted. “How is this so easy for you?”
Hajime crooked a brow, once again looking like he was in on a joke Shoyo didn’t understand. “I’ve lived here for a while.”
“Did you rock climb the whole time?!”
This time he earned a proper laugh. “If you need help, you can just ask,” Hajime chuckled.
Shoyo finally found his footing, straightened up, and met Hajime’s eyes with a stubborn frown. “…Yeah, okay,” he sighed, letting his stubborn gaze fall away. “I’ll let you know.”
“Good. Come on, just a little higher and we’ll be there.”
Shoyo had lost count of how many times he’d said that, yet he still let himself believe him. What was the alternative? To continue dreading every part of the climb? Better to keep deluding himself.
Except this time, when Hajime pulled him up from another rock scramble, Shoyo was met with a path that passed through flatter, barren land. More confusing was Hajime’s declaration of, “We’re here.”
“W-what?” Shoyo stammered. He looked around, trying desperately to understand how on earth this could be Oikawa’s land.
“Ah, right. Here.”
Without the distraction of an oni, Shoyo was treated to a proper view of Hajime stripping away the top of his robes. His eyes instinctively skittered away from the chiseled, tan expanse of his torso, only to get caught on a splash of teal than he hadn’t noticed before.
“Put this on under your robes,” Hajime instructed as he untied the ribbon from across his chest. When he handed it over, Shoyo could see a talisman woven into the ribbon. “This’ll help you see and pass.”
“What about you?”
“I’m not the one who needs to meet with Oikawa.”
Shoyo’s mouth went dry as he stared at the offered talisman. This was real. This was happening. He was finally crossing into Oikawa’s lands, and he’d be doing it all alone.
“Hey.” His eyes drifted from the talisman to Hajime, who watched him with a small frown. “You’ll be okay. I swear. Worse comes to worst, I can be your trump card, alright?”
“Really? Can you really change his mind if I fail?”
That frown tilted into a grin, though there was still a distinct tinge of sadness to it. “Yeah. I’m sure. Now go ahead, put that on.”
Part of Shoyo wanted to stall, wanted to take his time peeling away his hanten and robes and tying the talisman underneath. But Hajime was watching him with knowing eyes, silently urging Shoyo to properly see this last leg of his journey through.
So he moved quickly, and when he looked up from resecuring his robes, his mouth dropped open.
Where there had been a flat path and barren land now stood the tall stone walls of a fortress looming over the path. It wove through the wider palace grounds, eventually disappearing behind the bend. Shoyo could just barely see the edges of some of the small buildings and homes along the way.
But all of that paled when he looked further up and saw the daunting castle looming above. Maybe he should’ve been used to the grandeur of palaces already, as a samurai, but the position of this one at the top of a mountain made it look all the more intimidating.
“Woah…”
“Yeah,” Hajime laughed softly. “Oikawa chose his place well.” When Shoyo looked back at him, he found him watching him with a small smile. Having that hazel gaze fixed on him flustered him, until he remembered that Hajime couldn’t see the palace grounds anymore, not without the talisman.
“Um…” Shoyo’s throat clicked around his gulp. “I guess I should go.”
“Yeah, you should.” Hajime stared at him for an extra beat, before suddenly reaching out and readjusting his hanten around his shoulders. “Remember why you’re here. See this through for him.”
Shoyo’s voice caught in his throat, reducing him to silently nodding. But a sudden urge washed over him, and before he could think better of it, he surged forward to wrap Hajime in a hug. “Thank you,” he mumbled into his shoulder, “for everything.”
“Don’t talk like this is over,” Hajime murmured, rubbing soothing hands down Shoyo’s back. “You better come back and tell me how everything goes. I’ll set up camp at the bottom of the mountain, alright?”
Shoyo nodded again. Then he pulled away, shared one last smile with Hajime, and began making his way up the path.
He hadn’t felt so alone in months, and he hadn’t missed it. But he forced himself to take the first step up, then another, and another. When he chanced a look over his shoulder, his heart sank to see Hajime already turned away and heading back down the mountain. He really couldn’t see through the shroud without his talisman.
If Shoyo kept his head down and focused only on the path beneath him, he could almost pretend he was back at the Kageyama clan’s palace. Sure, the grounds were much emptier and the air was thinner, but he could still pretend a little.
Then he’d look up, see the castle up above, and be abruptly reminded of what he was actually doing.
It didn’t help that the grounds were so barren. The few buildings that remained were empty and starting to break down, without any sign of fire or fighting that could explain the damage. It was just…time. Time had worn the buildings down.
It didn’t make sense to Shoyo. Hajime told him that Oikawa and Iwaizumi had made a home with a small community. So where was that community? Was Shoyo heading into some sort of ghost town of a palace? Had Oikawa driven away the rest of what circle of friends he’d built in the six years of stubborn grief? What did that mean for Shoyo, and the reception he would receive on his arrival?
Tobio…think of Tobio, remember Tobio.
For once, Shoyo welcomed the sweet pressure in his throat at the thought of his love.
“I’m not worth it, Sho.”
He was, he was, he was worth everything and more. Shoyo remembered his broken voice and desperate kisses, and thought about Tobio all alone in that castle, and just like that, his resolve chased away his nerves.
He would remind him of his worth, remind him how loved he was, if it was the last thing he did.
“Halt!”
The sudden shout brought Shoyo to a stumbling stop. He hadn’t quite reached the walls surrounding the inner grounds, but he could see a man with pink hair and sleepy eyes aiming an arrow at him. “Who are you and how are you on these grounds?”
Shoyo’s hands shot up in a gesture of peace. “M-my name is Shoyo Hinata,” he called back, voice trembling, “and I’m here to request an audience with Oikawa-sama.”
The man’s eyes widened, but his arrow stayed steadily fixed on Shoyo. “Mattsun!” he suddenly called.
“I’m going, I’m going,” came another voice from the wall. Barely a minute had passed when a small door at the base of the wall opened, revealing a man with wavy black hair and thick brows. Instead of a bow, this man—Mattsun?—had two daggers attached to his obi, which was a dark slash across his pale blue robes. As he approached, Shoyo was disgruntled by how tall he was—about the same height as Oikawa, if memory served. Was he doomed to only meet tall people on this journey?
“You shouldn’t be here,” the dark-haired man said once he came to a stop a few paces from Shoyo. “Oikawa doesn’t welcome strangers, and you shouldn’t have been able to cross onto these grounds in the first place.”
“I’m not a stranger,” Shoyo murmured, voice a bit steadier. “Oikawa-sama knows me.” He deliberately avoided answering the implied question of how he’d passed the shroud, and from the frown his answer earned him, the other man had noticed that.
But he didn’t say anything. Instead, his dark eyes flickered to Shoyo’s hair, before he suddenly turned back towards the wall and stared up at the pink-haired man. Not a word was exchanged, at least none that Shoyo could hear, but the pink-haired man’s eyes widened again as he vehemently shook his head, as though in refusal to silent request. Stranger still, the black-haired man responded with a silent shrug, spreading his hands out in front of him, to which the other man sighed and slowly nodded.
“Alright,” the man in front of Shoyo declared, turning back to him with a smug, victorious grin. “Follow me. Stay right behind me, do not wander, understand?”
“Yes, sir!” Shoyo immediately agreed. “Thank you!”
“Don’t thank me just yet,” the man scoffed. “And don’t call me ‘sir.’ My name’s Matsukawa, and that’s Hanamaki.” He gestured up at the pink-haired man, who threw up his hands in clear frustration over his name being revealed. “Don’t mind him. C’mon, stay close.”
Shoyo hurried to obey, a chill running up his spine when the gates of the second wall opened to the sound of a low horn. There was a strange ripple in the air when Shoyo crossed through the gates behind Matsukawa, as though they were walking through a barrier of heat. He blinked instinctively to protect his eyes, and when they opened again, he was startled to see the complete opposite of the empty grounds he had just walked through.
The buildings he saw now looked freshly rebuilt, though not very lived-in. While it all looked prettier than the area before the second wall, it was also somewhat eerie, as though there used to be a community that suddenly vanished. “What…what is this place?”
“Hm?” Matsukawa looked over his shoulder at him, then followed his eyeline to the empty houses. “Oh, we just repaired these houses in case more people came. There’s only a handful of us, and we all live further inside.”
“Oh. And are you all…happy here?”
“Happier than we were before.”
Matsukawa didn’t elaborate beyond that, and for the first time in a while, Shoyo wasn’t sure how to continue the conversation. So he didn’t, choosing to occupy himself by looking around at the scenery. Beyond the houses, the forest continued, and his heart ached when he recognized the pine trees that had surrounded his and Tobio’s home at the foot of the mountain. He didn’t know if the familiar trees were more reassuring or foreboding. He didn’t have a chance to decide before they reached the next set of gates, and his attention was pulled away by Matsukawa calling, “Yahaba! It’s me! Open up!”
A man with dusty brown hair and an impressive frown peered over the wall. “Just go through.”
“Can’t. I’ve got the fabled samurai with me.”
Yahaba’s eyes found Shoyo and, much like Hanamaki’s, grew almost comically round. “Oh. Shit.”
“Yeah.”
Yahaba did something with his fingers, and before Shoyo’s very eyes, the gates wavered like a mirage before vanishing completely. “Alright, he should be good to go through.”
“Thank you!” Shoyo called with a quick bow. He could only hope he was successfully hiding how bewildering this entire journey through the palace grounds was.
The road beyond the gate was lined with more houses, but Shoyo was surprised by the signs of life they all held: flowers sprouted around tidy engawas, laundry hung from clotheslines and fluttered in the breeze, and smoke billowed from roofs with the scent of cooking meals.
Strangely, though, there were no people. None that made themselves known to Shoyo, at least. The most he saw were eyes and faces peering around the edges of windows or peeking through cracked-open doors. After the fifth or sixth glimpse of a face, Shoyo could resist asking, “Are they okay?”
“Hm?” Matsukawa followed his eyeline to a window, where yet another face was ducking out of view. A laugh burst from him. “Oh, sure! We’re just not used to guests around here. The horn announcing guests sounds more like a warning these days.”
“Oh…”
Matsukawa glanced over his shoulder to raise his eyebrows at Shoyo. “You’re not technically a guest, are you? You weren’t invited, after all.”
It was a fair enough observation, but Shoyo still scowled. “I told Oikawa-san I’d be here,” he muttered. “If he’s surprised, that’s his fault!”
Embarrassment flashed hot over him when Matsukawa let out a soft laugh, but then the taller man shot him a small smile. “Lots of people have threatened to show up unannounced, and none of them have succeeded. His surprise is flattering, trust me.”
“Oh.” Shoyo scuffed his feet against the ground for a few steps. “Does he remember me?”
“Oh, yes. He’s told all of us about you, Shoyo Hinata.”
Shoyo froze, breath catching in his chest and lips parting around a noiseless gasp. Matsukawa didn’t seem at all surprised by his reaction, easily coming to a stop and turning to face him properly. “Are you surprised? You shouldn’t be. You’re the reason Kageyama nearly broke the curse, and the reason he failed. Of course we know who you are.”
“Then…” Shoyo’s voice cracked, forcing him to clear his throat before continuing. “Then…you know why I’m here?”
“I do. We all do. Honestly, that’s the only reason Makki and I have been on guard duty,” Matsukawa scoffed with a disdain Shoyo knew wasn’t meant for him. “Oikawa sensed someone with magic breaching the storm around the island and approaching the palace. He wanted to make sure his strongest allies would be the first people you’d meet.”
“Strongest?!”
“That’s right.” Matsukawa smirked. “Told you. It’s flattering.”
Shoyo was quiet for a moment, before hesitantly asking, “If he has other guards…have they been fighting the oni that are on the island?”
Matsukawa betrayed no reaction, even made Shoyo unsure if he’d heard him at all, until he said in a strained voice, “Some of them, yeah.”
“If…If Oikawa has people he wants to protect here, then why is he letting oni on the island at all?”
This time, Matsukawa let out a slow breath before responding. “That…is a question only Oikawa can answer.”
“You don’t know?”
“I know part of the reason, but it’s ultimately up to him to decide who gets to know.”
“Even if I had to fight one?”
A small smirk and an impressed glint in his eye adorned Matsukawa’s expression when he glanced over his shoulder. “Did you? I guess that katana’s not just for decoration, huh?”
Shoyo’s hand automatically wrapped around his hilt. “It never was,” he declared. “I earned it, and so did my fellow samurai.”
“I’m sure.” His voice was casual, but uninterested, telling Shoyo that continuing to argue would be pointless.
So he clenched his jaw against the arguments burning on his tongue, and tried to distract himself by changing the subject. “Are…are all of these people magic users?”
“Yeah, for the most part. There’s the occasional person without magic who came here with their magic-using partner, but they’ve been able to enjoy their new lives here.”
“So he’s really not alone.”
The words escaped Shoyo a bit thoughtlessly, but he didn’t shy away from Matsukawa’s sharp stare. “What was that?”
“Oikawa. He isn’t alone. I…I thought part of his grief came from loneliness, but he has a community here.”
In the few minutes he’d known Matsukawa, he could already tell his face was usually the picture of perfect apathy. That just made the newly-thinned line of his lips all the more obvious. “All the people in the world won’t make up for his loss, no matter how hard we try.” The slightest tremble of regret and grief lined his flat words.
“I’m…I’m sorry.”
“With all due respect, Hinata-kun…you’re not the one who should apologize, and I’m not the one who should be apologized to.”
With that, they stepped into the shadow of the final walls to the main compound, within which loomed the central keep. Before Matsukawa approached the gates, he turned to Shoyo and pinned him under the full weight of his dark, heavy-lidded gaze. “Listen carefully,” he muttered, with a sternness Shoyo hadn’t heard on the entire walk up to the castle. “When we step into the main keep, you will follow me until I tell you to stop, and not a step further. I will be told to either lead you to a room to wait, or to bring you directly to the great hall. If you’re allowed to wait, then do what you can to…clean up, somehow. If not, then…well. Nothing to do, then, but hope for the best. Either way, good luck with trying to convince him to let Kageyama go. You’ll need it.”
Shoyo tried to swallow around the lump of fear rising in him, and just ended up with a sore throat. “Geez, Matsukawa-san,” he said with a weak laugh, “you really know how to cheer a guy up.”
Matsukawa’s stern expression softened just a bit around his eyes. “Figured you’d rather go in prepared than falsely optimistic.”
Fair enough. “Okay.”
After another moment of steady eye contact, Matsukawa asked, “Are you ready?”
“Yes.”
“Alright. Follow me.”
There was one more, final shroud that shifted around them as they stepped into a hidden staircase leading up and through the final stone walls. They emerged directly into the tenshu, a startling difference from the open courtyard leading up to the Kageyama domain’s castle. The architecture of this castle seemed more like a fort, easily defended and with only hidden pathways that the rest of the grounds’ residents could use to reach the more secure central keep. Even if Shoyo hadn’t known about the dangers of Oikawa’s life, he would have been able to tell that he had chosen to rebuild this castle for protection, not to be a home.
There was still beauty to be found, though. As he tried his best to keep up with Matsukawa, he looked around at the smooth, dark wood hallway and the pristine shoji screens lining it. Some of them served as the canva for simple, yet beautiful, paintings of landscapes, simple brushstrokes that formed mountains and rivers. The further they walked, the more ornate the paintings became, with delicate dashes of animals, and then humans. Soft murmurs filtered out from behind some of them, but they didn’t see anyone else until Matsukawa led him further in. There, they ran into a young man around Shoyo’s age, with coarse black hair that stood straight up like a turnip.
“Matsukawa-san! Kyotani-san told us someone arrived!” His words balanced delicately between anxiety and urgency, only to stumble to a halt when his dark eyes landed on Shoyo. “O-oh. Is this…him?”
“Yes, this is. Have you received any instructions regarding his arrival?”
“Um…Oikawa-sama wants him to be brought straight in once any dangers have been, uh…neutralized.”
A soft huff of laughter escaped Matsukawa at the clear apprehension on the other man’s face. “Thank you, Kindaichi. May I bring him in?”
“Ah…yes? If you’re sure…I’d be perfectly capable of taking him from here.”
“Nah, that’s alright. I think we’ve bonded a bit on the walk up here, wouldn’t you say so, Hinata?”
Shoyo jolted at being so abruptly addressed and gave a jerking nod. “Yes, yeah, I…I would say so?”
“Perfect. Shall we?”
Kindaichi frowned at Shoyo for a beat, before turning and leading the rest of the way without another word. The shoji screened rooms eventually gave way to more open rooms along the hall. Where Shoyo expected to see finery displayed, he instead saw old, clearly-cherished trinkets, weapons, glazed pottery, and paintings. Some of the paintings depicted small groups of young men, while others were more like stylized portraits, set over small altars.
They were just outside of the great hall, which was sequestered away behind the only wood walls Shoyo had seen in the whole place, when he noticed it: a large, beautiful butsudan containing an ornate altar. There were candles, food offerings, and some small trinkets adorning it, but what made Shoyo freeze were the displayed dagger and the portrait that hung over it.
The dagger was held in a scabbard that was almost black, with knicks along it that exposed a lighter wood beneath the paint, and a dark teal hilt that looked unnervingly familiar to Shoyo. The portrait over it was stylized, but was still clearly of a young man with messy black hair, tan skin, and pretty hazel eyes set under slim, furrowed brows. He wore simple dark robes, and was looking somewhere outside of the canvas that made his lips curve into a secretive smile.
It didn’t make sense. It shouldn’t have been possible. But there was no doubt in Shoyo’s mind that he was looking at a portrait of Hajime…a portrait hanging as the centerpiece of an altar to the dead.
“Hinata?” His eyes jerked away from the butsudan to land on Matsukawa, who watched him with something that Shoyo couldn’t identify in the midst of his shock. “Are you ready to go in?”
Panic clamored in his chest, tightening until he couldn’t take in enough air. Was Hajime…dead? How had he been helping Shoyo? Why had he been helping? Who was he, what did he mean to these people? And…and was he the man that Tobio had accidentally killed? The implications made Shoyo’s heart freefall through his body and take all the blood with it, leaving him lightheaded.
No. No. He couldn’t get distracted by all that now. He was here, finally, steps away from Oikawa and, with any luck, moments away from seeing Tobio again. Nothing else mattered than freeing Tobio and finding the words that would make that possible.
Shoyo was sweaty, grimy, wearing stained robes and a creaking pack, but with a raised chin and a final roll of Tobio’s blue stone between his fingers, he met Matsukawa’s gaze and murmured, “Yes. I’m ready.”

do u ever think about just how hard hinata is working for like. recognition? like he’s short so no one ever takes him seriously as an opponent, because he’s short and it’s clear that he doesn’t have the formal training that other kids have, so he’s behind in both skill and height, but he can jump and he’s passionate about volleyball in a way that no one else is, and yet everyone refuses to take him seriously? everyone always targets kageyama because they think he’s the one to worry about, the fallen setter who spurned his teammates, and the whole time hinata is by his side screaming for someone to at least acknowledge that he’s there too. tsukishima, ushijima...and every time, he has to literally jump in front of them, and say i’m here too. don’t count me out, because the game isn’t over yet.

reasons why YOU should ship poly hq (older) sibs+tenma (yes, akiteru/saeko/miwa/tenma/alisa i said what i said)
everyone deserves a goth gf (miwa)
and a femme gf (alisa)
and a punk gf (saeko)
and a pathetic bf (tenma)
and akiteru is their emotional support just some guy tm
alisa gets one (1) tall bf one (1) short bf and two (2!!!) short gfs
saeko can pick up all of her partners. yes all of them
someone will always be there to drag tenma out of his little hidey hole
tenma akiteru and miwa can all play volleyball together
okay the real reason you should ship this is for the family reunions. tsukishima kei rolls up to the family reunion and his brother has brought four different people three of whom are related to people he knew in high school. tanaka lev and kageyama are all there. it’s his worst nightmare.

i know this has been said already but i was reading hq vol 1 today and i got to the part where suga’s like “okay listen hinata’s not quite ready for a proper quick yet but you’re literally a setter can’t you figure out how to use him” and like. it’s so important to me that kageyama learns from suga, not necessarily about technique but how to be on a team. and then when suga tells kageyama to say that he learned everything from a magnificent senpai called sugawara and kageyama goes “yes” immediately because at the end of the day suga taught him something that both oikawa and atsumu never did, and that’s how to be a team player

My #1 post of 2022
So I have this theory that everyone in Karasuno can be represented not only by their own banner, but they also have a banner belonging to a different school as well. There’s a few exceptions–for example, Datekou’s banner (Iron Wall) is highly specific to their school and as such is not applicable to anyone in Karasuno. But for the most part, each school’s banner is also represented in a different member of the Karasuno volleyball club.
First up are the first years. They are easily represented by the “big five” schools–Karasuno, Nekoma, Fukurodani, Aoba Johsai, and Shiratorizawa. The rest of the team can be found in the other schools that we get to see. Some are through their plot arcs, and others merely correspond to them even if we don’t get to see that direct thematic link.
Putting the rest of the theory under a cut because holy shit it’s long (one of my friends said it was 800 words and i’ve added to it since then!)
Starting off with our protagonist, Hinata Shoyo! He is the representative of Fukurodani’s motto, one ball one heart one soul. It’s written in how he loves volleyball; it’s written in how he gives volleyball his all. Volleyball is his–he's hungry for it in a way that few other characters are and there isn't anything he wouldn't do to get better and better at it. It’s also pretty obvious in how much he learns from Bokuto. They share the same passion, and I think that the parallels between these two characters put them in conversation with each other and Fukurodani’s motto. Obviously “fly” suits him, but I think that out of everyone in Karasuno, he embodies Fukurodani’s banner in a way that the others don’t.
Kageyama Tobio is Aoba Johsai’s motto, rule the court. This one should be obvious: the king metaphors, his learning how to be a fair leader on the court as a setter, the different ways he can “rule” (as seen in how he looks up to both Oikawa and Atsumu, and the effects that their setting styles have on him). I don’t think I need to elaborate on this one.
Tsukishima Kei is Nekoma’s motto, connect. That’s his entire thing as a middle blocker: connect. Yes, ideally he sends it back over the net, but one-touches are also important connections within game play, as seen in the Shiratorizawa match. And, as seen in the Inarizaki match, he will go great lengths to get that connection, as he runs over to hit the ball back up even at the last possible moment. It’s also worth noting that it is his personal connections (ahaha...anyways) to the team and his brother that make him a better player–once he is willing to at least open up, and connect with other people, he is able to improve (see the Tokyo training camp/third gym arc!)
Yachi Hitoka is Shiratorizawa’s motto, irresistible force. Yachi might be really anxious but she has proven time and time again that she has a spine, that she will stand up for what she believes in and fight for what she wants. As she once famously said, "Villager B can fight too!!" and we see that, as she grows more confident within her role in the team and who she is as a manager.
Yamaguchi Tadashi is the true embodiment of Karasuno’s motto, fly. Of course this one is applicable to every member of Karasuno, but i think that it’s Yamaguchi who best embodies it. He is the only first year not on the starting line up, so what does he do? Find another way to get on the court, and that’s through being a pinch server. And that’s part of the whole message of Haikyuu: humans don’t have wings, so we search for other ways to fly.
The next three are really obvious in my opinion due to the plot arcs!
Sawamura Daichi is Johzenji’s, simplicity and fortitude. He lays the brickwork for his team; it’s due to his ability to cover their asses that Kageyama and Hinata can do the wack shit they do (you’ve seen the Johzenji match).
Ennoshita Chikara is Wakutani’s, show us your tenacity. He had to try again and again before he actually got put on the court, and even once he’s on it was a struggle for him. But he keeps trying. He picks himself back up, over and over again, and that’s why he’s Wakutani (again...you’ve seen the Wakunan match).
Kinoshita Hisashi’s is Tsubakihara’s, even small streams become large rivers. He never gets his “big moment”; he’s nothing special; he doesn’t get to be a hero in the way Ennoshita and even Narita got to be (see stz match, fifth set). But he’s still important; it’s his call to Noya that helps them win the Inarizaki match (you should rewatch the Tsubakihara match btw).
Speaking of iInarizaki, Nishinoya Yuu is the embodiment of their banner, we don’t need memories. That’s why he ditched Karasuno! Asahi left because he physically couldn’t shake off the memory of being shut out, which was so frustrating to Noya because he knew that he had to get the ball up for Asahi next time. They had to shake off the memory of that match in order to evolve into better versions of themselves. Also take into consideration Kita’s speech (the “I am built of the small things I do every day” one), as Noya too is built of the small things he does every day as well. His finger push-ups mid match is his way of shaking off the memories of the game and focusing on what to do next play. He had to forget the past memories, and so that is why Nishinoya is the embodiment of Inarizaki's banner. Consider Noya's timeskip too: he goes off to make new memories while keeping his old ones.
Sugawara Koushi (my personal fave krsn member!!) is the embodiment of Nohebi’s banner, fair and square. His entire thing is that it's fair. He recognizes that Kageyama is a better setter than him and gracefully accepts the decision to make Kageyama the starting setter as opposed to him. He's been replaced, and he doesn't try and overturn that decision with an excuse of seniority. Instead, he looks for ways to improve himself. He doesn't sabotage Kageyama, instead working alongside him to improve the team. He looks for his own way to fight, fair and square. Whenever he's put on the court, it's because of his own merit (when he's actually on it anyways T_T) and all of it is due to his own hard work to make himself the best player he can. It’s a sharp contrast to the irony that is Nohebi’s play style and their banner, but he truly represents Nohebi’s banner.
Tanaka Ryuunosuke is Itachiyama’s banner, effort. During the Inarizaki game, he says that he’s nothing special in the team, but then he goes on to say, “if I try try again, I can do it”. That’s his thing–being the reliable senpai to the first years, being their rising ace, putting in the effort to be a strong player in his own right. He’s a hard worker and he’s a strong player–even if he’s not as intense as Hinata or Kageyama–but he still puts in the effort, every single time.
Azumane Asahi is Sarukawa’s banner, rising up every time. First of all–his name; he’s the rising sun to Noya’s evening. Secondly, he is the one who has to rise up to the challenge: namely, his fear of being shut out. That’s what his arc is about–whereas Noya had to focus on getting the ball up regardless of what had happened earlier, Asahi had to accept the fact that he may get blocked, and jump up and hit the ball regardless. And that’s why he’s Sarukawa’s.
I’ve run out of banners (I’m not a manga reader anyways) and narita doesn’t have enough of a personality for me to properly support him so...to the Kiyoko, Narita, Takeda, and Ukai stans: sorry but I’m out of ideas. I still love them. If you have ideas feel free to let me know though!! I’d love to hear them!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
once the dancing starts and there’s a big crowd, they get lifted up on a chair and everyone is cheering. the teachers have to intervene so nobody gets hurt. definitely has a tie around their head.
BOKUTO, kaminari, NOYA, TANAKA, kirishima, mina, SERO, mammon, tendou, ushijima (purely bc the thought of him being confused as to what’s happening entertains me), HINATA, kise (iffy on this one but i can see it), takao, hanamaki (seijoh four carries the chair), kogane
oikawa, bokuto, mammon, KAMINARI, KIRISHIMA, sero, ASMO
both of your social batteries drain easily around so many people, so you’re both content to sit at a table and either take cute selfies or yell over the music until the slow songs come on so you don’t get overwhelmed (me, except I didn’t have a date lol)
KENMA, leviathan, KUNIMI, todoroki, midoriya, belphegor, suna, SAKUSA, yamaguchi, yachi, JIROU, tsukishima, midorima, kuroko
