Young Justice is always a little...concerned. With Phantom's living situation. Now they're outright afraid for him, and Bart has decided it's time to Ask An Adult.

It was the little quips. The tiny little things. Stuff that didn't seem to matter to Phantom at all, or appeared to be normal for him, that he didn't realize weren't normal at all.

"Oh, better not hope my mom catches me." "Doing what, staying out past bedtime?" "Nah, using my powers; she'd vivisect me!"

"Another stab wound. Great." "Don't worry Phantom, I've got the med kit-" "Oh, I'm not a baby or anything, I can handle it just fine. Just gimme a sec to take it out."

Finding out each others identities did nothing to soothe the worry. Tim quietly told the others that every time he tried to run facial recognition, he kept hitting a government firewall he couldn't breach. Phantom never told them his last name, just his first, and 'Danny' is super common.

The thing that really did it though, the thing that made Bart snap and run off to ask Max, was when Danny had a nightmare.

He was talking in his sleep.

"No. Don't-stop. Stoooop. I need...my skin. Mom, no. You can't...peel off...my skin..."

Bart didn't even wait for them to wake Danny up before he was standing in front of Max, talking a mile a minute as he tried to figure out what to do, with Wally staring in horror over a plate of waffles as he computed everything that Bart was saying.

Danny had a dream about his mom and Skulker arguing about how to skin him. He wouldn't really call it a nightmare, because it was just Skulker, but the scariest thing was Skulker insisting to his mom that it was possible to skin him with a potato peeler. Dream mom was arguing that it was not, and that from a scientific standpoint that was a really piss poor way to preserve a specimen.

He hadn't been begging them to stop hurting him, he'd been whining at them to knock it off.

But when he wakes up, it's to a room full of worried friends and an old man who calls himself Max.

"Kid, I think we need to talk."

criminal minds/call of duty crossover where a serial killer is targeting sets of brothers. the bau think it’s ghost after finding out he’s on leave and looking into him and finding out about his abusive childhood. they think being military, getting held by the cartel and his family’s murder made him snap and he’s trying to recreate a perfect childhood with perfect brothers but they’re never perfect enough

he’s arrested when he can’t provide an alibi for the nights of the murders. the interrogation is rough, even with his resistance training. he can’t fight back, he can’t wait out the clock until price rescues him bc it’s not ghost being interrogated, it’s simon. getting his family and childhood thrown in his face, being questioned about his time with the cartel, forced to remember everything he went through and the entire time he can’t hide behind his mask bc they took it the second they brought him in

he’s being moved from interrogation to a cell when soap bursts in, screaming and swearing at them, how dare they think ghost would ever hurt those boys, after everything he’s survived, all the people he’s saved, do they really think he would ever do something like that, what the fuck is wrong with them!!

he sees how rough ghost looks, sees they took his mask and is two seconds from throwing hands with morgan. ghost’s just been quietly saying his name as he rants, trying to get through to him before he gets himself arrested too until he finally barks, “sergeant mactavish!” and soap instinctively freezes and falls to attention. he tries to make him leave but soap tells the team that ghost was with him on the nights the boys were killed and he had security footage of him coming and leaving his apartment, as well as pictures from throughout the night

the team don’t believe him, asking why ghost would lie to them, he could be charged with murder if it went far enough, why hide his alibi? he stays quiet until soap finally says, “he was protecting me. it doesn’t look to good to be gay in the military. or to seduce your superior officer.”

“you didn’t seduce shit, johnny,” ghost argues back and the team realises they were trying to dodge a dishonourable discharge not hide a murder habit and releases him. they end up stealth helping them solve the case bc even if he didn’t do it, seeing all of these boys, these brothers getting killed was getting to ghost in a bad way

wilson gets a little too clingy and in a pique of annoyance house scrubs his palm against his own glands and covers wilson's mouth and nose with it. but he misjudges how far along wilson is getting into his cycle (read: doesn't realize his teasing has progressed it further along so he's very nearly in straight up rut now) and instead of it startling wilson into backing up, reassessing, and bolting home to deal with his rut alone, it just makes his eyes go hazy...... then wilson licks his palm. and when house flinches away wilson presses forward into his space to scent him right there where they stand, and oh fuck, house knows that all-over hot feeling anywhere.

and when wilson kisses his gland is when house finally pries him off, both of them breathing heavy, and mutters, "go home, wilson."

it's so bad that it takes him a minute to refocus, but when he does he flushes so hard. "oh god, house, i'm--"

"it's fine, just go."

wilson nods once, blinks hard, and he's gone. house puts in his notice the second he can without anyone suspecting they'll spend their cycles together. they're not (not to say they haven't before, but with wilson's marriages even doing it out of convenience was never guaranteed, and that's not even TOUCHING how it affects their friendship) but even if they were, house still wants to protect wilson's reputation, because if anyone thought wilson was involved with such an unpleasant, damaged omega like house, surely their respect for dr boy wonder would plummet

kind of fucked up but semi related question to some art i’m planning on posting. do you guys think jecra was partially conscious after he got turned into a monster but had no control over his body so he basically just had to sit there watching/feeling everything that went down until his eventual death.

like i’m thinking of it in a more ‘controlled by a parasite’ type of situation where he still retained consciousness and could see everything through his eyes, but nightmares magic basically left him a spectator in his own body without the ability to control himself or communicate.

i feel like it’d also link to how he managed to temporarily snap out of the brainwashing just before his death thanks to his love for knuckle joe and managed to give his locket + last words to meta knight, since his consciousness wasn’t entirely wiped out by nightmare’s brainwashing. so even in the case that his consciousness was ‘corrupted’ during all of that, he still retained enough of his own free will and mind to break from it in the end while dying.

the vampire lestat in audiobook format is 24 hours long and i finished listening to it in a week, meanwhile merrick is only 8 hours long and it took me three weeks to chew through the whole fucking thing. it's not even very badly written, i just really hate it when anne rice turned the dial up to 11 on her Sympathy with the P*dophile bullshit
