you should watch alien stage 😁 it’s a really wholesome and heartwarming web series on YouTube by VIVINOS. Nothing bad happens! And I think that you would like it!

So before I checked out Alien Stage, I asked an irl about it to get a feel for the series. They jokingly described Alien Stage to me as "Hunger Games with doomed yuri and yaoi plus some toxic het on the side", and after catching up with the playlist of hits... yeah, that's pretty accurate. I'm so invested in this now 🤡

I have Ruler of My Heart stuck in my head, specifically this English cover of it! To probably no one's surprise, I'm really gravitating to Luka... WHAT CAN I SAY, I LOVE ANGELIC LOOKING CHARACTERS WITH PRINCELY AND CHARISMATIC PERSONAS THAT ARE ACTUALLY SO MANIPULATIVE AND SCUMMY. AFSLFAYOEFIYFAEEAF; AND HOW CAN I NOT ADORE A GUY THAT PULLS THSI KINDA FACE:

I think part of his charm is that contrast between how he's seen as a "prince" by his fans when he's anything but. The artists outdid themselves with the MV; it perfectly conveys how truly terrible Luka is. I was so uncomfortable watching the video play out. The way he progressively creeps closer and keeps invading Mizi's personal space, taunting her, imitating her dead bestie/crush, putting his hands all over her, AND THAT GROSS WHISTLE HE DOES IN THE BEGINNING???? That made my skin CRAWL. Luka is for real so awful and I love that for him-- MIZI WAS RIGHT TO SWING AT HIM, IT WAS CATHARTIC 💀

I wanna give big props to Mizi's facial expressions too... They're so despair-filled and delicious, even when it's just her widened eyes repeating on the screen. The animation specifically for the line "I don't believe you're a liar" is top tier 👌 It's nothing fancy, but it conveys just how distressed Mizi is and how that's impacting her ability to sing. The way she gulps is so punchy and visceral. THE HATE IN MIZI'S EYES AS SHE'S RESTRAINED FROM COMING AT HIM AGAIN???? Good stuff. The twist at the end where the stage gets smoke bombed (?) and Mizi is rescued by the rebellion was great too. It robs Luka of the satisfaction of seeing his rival gunned down and him being declared as the victor. (P.S. I thought Hyuna was Jamil when I first saw her design; this is proof that Jamil has cool onee-san energy/j) Super looking forward to seeing Luka square off against Till, who is another favorite of mine. The eyebags— Till the End is probably my second favorite song so far; it's so intense in the close-up shots of Till singing his heart out to the audience. (Poor Mob-kun though, bro's getting DESTROYED out here...) I admire Till's fighting spirit but at the same time I feel so bad every time he's subdued 💦 Whereas I want Luka to get knocked down a peg, I want Till to find happiness and safety...

I wanna know everything. What’s the significance of the pelt being worn by Tim? What are the backstories?

YEAH!!!! okay so a bit of background: selkies are critters from celtic/norse mythos. they are seal-human shapeshifters, who can change form by removing or wearing their sealskins; the most common tales involve fishermen stealing a selkie woman's sealskin cloak to entrap her as his wife, despite her yearning to return to the sea.

SO, with that being said:

kryptonians are selkies!!!

kon is created by cadmus labs and lex luthor. he doesn't even know the significance of his coat; it's kept locked away except for when he gets it for promotional photoshoots. he doesn't realize it has anything to do with why he's always discontented and afflicted with varying bouts of malaise.

when clark finds out - when he can see this physical, material evidence of kon's mistreatment - he's beyond horrified and enraged. they're violating a child, so profoundly that he doesn't even realize he's being violated, and he cannot let that stand.

lois, fully human but VERY protective of her husband and by extension all selkies: LET ME AT HIM. LET ME AT LUTHOR IM GONNA RIP HIS FACE OFF

clark, holding her off the ground: dearest, please. i need you to stay calm... and write the most damning exposé the planet has ever seen.

lois: .......FINE. but then YOU better rip that bald fucker's face off, you hear me?

clark comes home with kon in tow, uncharacteristically quiet and subdued. his eyes are red-rimmed and his cheeks blotchy, but lois doesn't say a word about it. she lets him sit curled up in the corner of the sofa, clutching his pelt around himself tight enough to make himself look small, and thinks he looks more like a child than he ever has before.

fast forward a couple years. kon has found his place in the family; jon in particular adores him. he's gotten kind of jaded and unhappy about his whole history; he's seen clark leave his sealskin around the house, has even seen lois wear it, but he's kept his hidden away in his room ever since that first day, except for when he's wearing it himself. clark, lois, and ma never touch it; the only one allowed to is jon, and even he knows not to push if kon's feeling antsy.

tim is kon's bestie. all the core four are besties. but none of them know the selkie secret - it's very well-guarded. they just know kon is a weirdo who really loves to take long walks on the beach and gaze at the ocean.

one day, he is on a long walk by the marina with tim. tim, somehow or other, falls into the water in january. he gets out quickly, of course, but it's cold and he's wet and kon really doesn't want him to get hypothermia, so--

he shrugs the sealskin coat off his own shoulders and wraps it around tim's, and tells him c'mon, let's get back to the house.

they go back to the house.

they walk in the door.

tim is wearing kon's coat.

tim. is WEARING. KON'S COAT.

kon, who barely even tolerates his beloved baby brother touching his coat, because he was so violated and taken advantage of in his earliest days!!!!

TIM IS WEARING KON'S!!! COAT!!!!!

clark hold her coffee. lois is about to whip out her shotgun.

and that's how we get the scene @cowboysorceror drew <3 clark is extremely concerned; lois is 👌 THIS CLOSE to a mama bear rampage, tim is freezing, and kon is like. well. this sure is happening!

other quick notes, in part brainstormed with beckett and also with my bestie @adjit in various dms:

kon doesn't, like, LOVE this whole scenario, but frankly, he's more worried about tim than he is upset about his coat. he knows tim would never use it to hurt him, to control him, to own him; he trusts tim. simple as that!

it's kind of hard to communicate this to clark and lois in a couple of quick facial expressions over tim's head, but he manages.

they get tim bundled into a hot shower and warm, dry clothes, etc. he's coming back downstairs from kon's room, afterwards, and pauses on his silent feet when he overhears his name in conversation.

"no, it's not--i'm fine, i promise," kon is saying. "tim's not like--tim wouldn't hurt me. i know he wouldn't. you don't gotta worry."

huh, tim thinks. he's pretty observant, not that he needed to be to notice the way clark and lois stared at him and kon earlier. clearly, the jacket is significant; he knows clark and jon have matching ones. maybe it's a family thing?

sounds like kon had some kind of shitty ex, and... they got worried about him getting into a relationship again?

well. no need to worry about that! he immediately resolves that he will put their worries at rest. he Will be the best boyfriend kon has EVER had.

like, they aren't dating (yet), but, uh, you know. semantics. details.

(he doesn't find out the actual secret until later. when he finally realizes what this meant, that kon trusted him with his personhood, he. well, he's not crying, but he does get this funny tug in his chest and he really, really has to go hug kon for a long time.)

As a selectively mute person myself, I loved selectively mute Mario. It fits so well.

Have you ever considered what would happen if Mario was nonvocal and trying to communicate with Luigi specifically? Does he use sign language? Do they have a different gesture system? Writing things down? Twin telepathy?

Oh thank you, I'm glad! ☺️ And I think so too!! 💯 I've mentioned before that my very first introduction to the character as a child was through both Mario World and Mario All-Stars 3; two games in which he is completely voiceless. And so, in a sense... The thought of Mario as a mute/selectively mute character has always existed in my subconscious. Today still, I love him just as much as a silent protagonist as a freely speaking one! ^-^ 💖

See, this is something that fascinates me about the concept as a whole and which I really love about @mrspockify's rendition: Mario doesn't have just one approach when communicating worldlessly with others. He does it in a myriad of different ways! Sometimes through actual signing, but also often through more subtle or ambiguous movements, or much less frequently through very faint vocal responses like a sigh, grunt or light chuckle- sometimes through just a look, or elaborate mimics, sometimes entirely through posture and body language etc. There's so much room for depth and nuance there! 👌💙💫

In my own interpretation, Luigi would be the only person with whom Mario can have ongoing silent conversations through micro gestures alone, all the while barely moving a muscle. Not even Peach would be able to read him quite that well, but for Luigi, deciphering the tiniest of shifts in Mario's stance or facial expressions would be like a second nature. The way I personally headcanon their exchanges are with Luigi doing about 90% of the dialogue through spoken words and adding signs out of habit when wanting to emphasize certains words or trying to really grab Mario's attention, whereas Mario would almost always entirely respond in his own way; only signing back to his brother when equally annoyed or when the answer requires a very specific term. x3

So I'd say it would be a mix of a somewhat different gesture system and "twin"-telepathy in my version. 🤭

Dottore working days after days without rest was not something new to you. You tried to convince him to go to rest multiple times but he would just brush you off. Telling you that his body could function perfectly fine without sleep. You were concerned about his health, of course. But there was also another motive. Sleeping in your shared bed without him made you feel lonely. You missed falling asleep in his arms as he whispered sweet nothings to you. You also missed the warmth he would give off when the both of you cuddle. You just missed being in his presence in general. Then one day, you thought of a genius idea.

If he couldn’t come to you, then you would go to him.

The first time you went into his lab at 1am it confused him. Why were you going to his work place in the middle of the night with a blanket, a book and hot drinks? He was hesitant to let you stay at first. Both because he was not used to people watching him as he worked, and sometimes his experiment might go south and he was afraid it would result in hurting you. But so far, nothing has happened. He always made sure to work on a project that’s safe enough for when you were around. The more you stayed, the more he began to find himself enjoying your company; the soft noises of you turning the pages of a book and the sigh you would let out occasionally after taking a sip of your hot tea. He found them to be quite therapeutic.

And today was just like one of those days. Dottore was drowning himself in his mountain of work as usual. You went to prepare two cups of coffee for the both of you. And to surprise him, you decided to make cute little faces of Aranaras out of microfoam milk. While you were deciding which book to take with you, you asked one of Dottore’s clones if he could go grab you some clean blankets. The clone soon came back with some fluffy ones. As a reward, you gave him a little peck on his cheek and chuckled as you watched him walk away with a giddy smile. Doing all of these were tiring. But you wouldn’t mind it though. In fact, you enjoyed it because you get to get comfy with your lover.

You knocked on the doors to the lab before going in. As you were about to greet Dottore, however, you noticed something was different.

“Uh, dear? What is a couch doing here?”

Upon hearing your arrival, Dottore stopped his work and turned to you.

He observed you as your facial expression turned into a gleeful one. Satisfied with himself, he mentally gave himself a little pat on the back.

“I figured you’d ask.” He gave you a little smirk before he continued. “Everytime when you fall asleep on my office chair, you’d wake up and complain about getting back pain.”

He then gestured to the couch. “So, to make your stay here a little more comfortable for you. I decided to make some adjustments.”

“You did this for me?” You were happy. No. More than happy. The thought of Dottore doing something as simple as this made you feel loved. Not that he didn’t love you already.

“Why of course. My love deserves the best, afterall.”

You put the blankets onto the couch and went over to give Dottore a kiss on his lips. Before you could fully pull away, he quickly dived in and got another one from you.

“I deserve more than just one kiss, no?” He whispered into your ear. You giggled as you felt ticklish from his breath. “Yes, yes you do,” you replied before putting down two mugs of coffee onto his work desk and getting comfy on the chair beside him. He picked up his mug and was about to drink it when he noticed the tiny face on it.

“Is that an Aranara?”

“Yup, I thought it’d look cute so I added them.”

“Mmm, fascinating. Didn’t know you are an artist yourself.”

The joyful chatter soon faded into silence as Dottore had to focus on his work once more. Oftentimes, others would find the silence to be unnerving. Especially if you were with a man that could kill you in seconds. For you though, it was a nice feeling. The both of you weren’t necessarily doing anything together. But neither of you would complain as you feel content by just being near each other.

You were reading your book as he busied himself with mixing some chemicals together. Moments later, you found a joke maybe Dottore would like.

“Hey ‘ttore,” you called him, trying your hardest to hold your laugh in.

“Hm?”

“Someone once told me a pun about amnesia, but I’ve forgotten how it goes.”

He stopped what he was doing as he thought about your joke. Once he processed it, he just stared at you with a deadpan look while you were laughing hysterically. You assumed that he might somewhat liked it when you saw the corners of his lips lifted up a bit. Little did you know, he didn’t find the joke funny at all. Matter of fact, he thought that was the stupidest thing he has ever heard. Rather, it was the sight of you being a ball of sunshine in his eyes. These were one of the things he cherished the most. To be able to find solace in your company along with your melodic laughter.

After he was done running some tests with the chemicals. He sat on a chair next to yours and started working on his paperwork. As you take your occasional glances at him, you notice how he would shiver ever so slightly.

“Dear, are you cold?” You asked.

“Me? Cold? Pfft. No. I’ve been in Snezhnaya for a long time now. To the point where my body can handle the cold even when I’m naked.”

You knew he was lying when his words followed up with another shiver of his didn’t go unnoticed by you. So you went to the couch and gave him a blanket anyway.

“I told you, dove. I am not cold,” he said and yet, he made no effort to take the blanket off him.

“Sure you aren’t.” You gave him a little smooch on his cheek before going back to your seat. Not aware of the heart eyes he was giving you. (Which he didn’t even notice himself.)

Flipping through the pages of the book again, you were reading a scene where a scientist was performing a surgery on his patient. Wanting to hear your lover’s voice. You decided to ask him how accurate the scene was. He sat still for a while before giving you his lengthy explanation.

“--and that’s how Chloroform was supposed to work! These books are unreliable. Maybe you should read something else–” he turned to you but only to find that you had fallen asleep. He looked at the clock on the wall and it was 5am already. He didn’t even realize how tired he was until he went to check on you. Tugging a strand of your hair behind your ear. He gave your nose a little peck.

“I put a couch in here for a reason…” He sighed, but he wasn’t annoyed.

‘Maybe taking a little break won’t hurt,’ he thought to himself.

Putting his arms under your sleeping self, he gently lifted you up and went toward the couch. Making sure that he wouldn’t wake you up before placing you on it. He then took his mask off and laid you right on top of him, using a blanket to cover the both of you.

It was moments like these with you, he wasn’t afraid to let his walls down. Just like he was there for you, you were there for him as well.

Dottore knew that he wasn’t the kind of guy that would just openly tell you he adored you. Sometimes though, he wished he was because you deserve someone who could just tell you they love you whenever and not be awkward about it. But he wasn’t, and that’s okay.

It was him that you fell in love with, afterall.

The room was soon filled with the sound of your snores. Slipping away into your sweet, comforting dreamlands as the golden rays outside of the window slowly bestowed upon your cuddled up figures.

If I were to talk about this episode we'd be here all year so imma just mention a few things that made me want to smash my head into a brick wall and then weep salty soup flavourings into my empty palms

suffice it to say that I thought this episode was 🙌👏👏💪👄😳🤩👌👌👌

so diving straight into the 'chen yi gets ai di a gift to show how well he knows him and wants him back'.

It's a handgun. a hand gun. and a short barrelled shotgun. with a loveheart on it.

and, like, for real, ai di's feckin sheer elation and joy at getting this --- I STRUGGLE TO FUNCTION

and chen yi's note of simply, "come back" - a plea, nonetheless. fuck.

then we have ai di's chilli spice punishment = lol. chen yi be like PSYCH I'm actually into that. and the easy way he just, boop, sweeps ai di up into his arms, like he's so lightweight and small. I love it. I think ai di loves it, too. chen yi certainly does, the amount of times he's yeeted ai di to a secondary location (street smarts!)

now, the reconciliation, and the love scene, I think, were done perfectly.

"as long as we are alive, I'll share our birthday with you, and you only."

the way ai di looks at chen yi after chen yi tells him that he loves him -- HMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNGG -

the way that their first two kisses are gentle, sweet, soft and chaste. It's comforting, assuring, testing and slow. It sort of speaks to their relationship, of how they have known each other so long, of how their feelings are so deep, so complicated and yet so true and simple - it speaks long-term. It points to a way of thinking that they have time, now. time for each other, and to take it slow, to enjoy it. because they're finally on the same page.

also the staring - the lingering watchful eyes. both of them simply breathing and taking the other in, documenting that this is real; savouring its realness - esp ai di who seems torn between the euphoria of surrendering to the pleasure of it and the struggle to believe that it's really happening. even when they're kissing, ai di's eyes are often open, and watching.

once they're both shirtless - and ai di goes to kiss chen yi, dive back in, but chen yi stops him, takes a moment to pull back and just look at ai di. a moment just to hold him, regard him and treasure him, like he wants to forever remember this moment - because it's been FOUR YEARS MY DUDES and then he's touching along his back, his shoulders; kissing his chest, his arms; making sure ai di feels loved, and relishing the feel of his body

and when chen yi flips them over, so ai di is trapped beneath him, his knees splayed as wide af to accommodate chen yi between them (heh) and ai di is curling his toes into the bedsheets - chen yi kissing down his chest, he mouths at the cupid's bow base of his rib cage and it's 👌👌👌

and then they both have their hands in one another's hair, cradling their skulls, when ai di reaches up to kiss ah yi - and NAT'S FECKIN HANDS. they're the freaking size of louis' HEAD.

and louis with his stupid freaking insane capacity of facial expression with so little direction or introspection. these boys.. aiiii......

I loved it. I could talk about it forever. I think I'm just gonna watch it again.

You stood behind Georg, watching his facial expressions in the mirror as you messed with his hair. “Are you sure you want me to do this?” He laughs little and tips his head back to look at you.

“I wouldn’t have asked you if I wasn’t sure, babe.” He smiles, looking up at you still.

“Ok, but are you sure you want me to do it? We can go to a professional you know?” He rolls his eyes and moves his head forward again, now watching you through the mirror.

“Y/n. Just cut my damn hair. I want you to do it.” You sighed and grabbed the scissors, tilting his head so that you didn’t cut it unevenly. Finally, you started to chop off his long hair. “Hm you know…I’m gonna miss your hair. Its so long and pretty.”

“Yeah? Its just getting a little boring. I can’t remember the last time I changed my appearance even a little bit.” He watches as you carefully cut around his ears, holding on to the side of his head to keep him steady.

“Im glad that you trust me with this. I think you’re gonna look very handsome.” You stopped cutting to give him a quick peck, making him smile into the short but sweet kiss. “Ok, now seriously don’t move. Im getting to the part were I need to be careful. So unless you want a bald spot, stay still.” You giggle while imagining him with a bald spot. Stepping in front on him, you start to carefully shape his bangs. The focused look on your face made Georg’s lips curl into a small grin.

After you were finished, you set the scissors down on the counter and took a step back to look at him. “Ah! You look so good! Look!” You moved out of his way so that he can see himself in the mirror. He leans forward and runs his hand through his now short hair. After a short inspection he stand up and leans down to give you another loving kiss.

“I love it. Thank you, you’re the best.”

Okay, so I'm chilling at a bar after a hectic day of travelling. Nothing has gone right - my alarm didn't go off, the airport was crowded, my flight was delayed, I missed my initial connection, airline lost my luggage... Now I'm sitting with my head in my hands, sucking down my third ceasar.

I hear an equally irritated and exhausted voice order a kind of beer that the bar doesn't carry. Nor do they carry the next two kinds he tries to get before my fellow weary traveler says, "What ever s'on tap."

I turn and look at the man who sits with one seat between us, and save for us and the bartender, the bar is vacant. I catch the man lift the tip of his ball cap enough to scratch the matted brown mop of curls before he adjusts it back on his head. The foggy glass of beer is barely placed in front of him when he grabs it, mutters a thanks and downs half of it.

I'm not sure who speaks to the other first, but it's not long before that one seat between us is removed as he sits closer. The worry and stress of the day melts as small gestures leading to brief contact, small talk escalates to flirting and innuendos.

It doesn't seem like it's been that long but the beleaguered barkeep interrupts and tells us the bar is now closed.

I bid my new friend adieu, first in the lobby, then the elevator, then the hallway... it's only then I realize his room is right next to mine. I feel a heat rise in my face as a smile tugs at my lips and his facial expression mirrors mine.

"You wanna come in?", he asks, crowding me against the wall.

"I'd love to, Frankie."

We spend the rest of the night and into the wee hours of the morning making balloon animals in his room.

He tries his best to keep it together, but the most he can manage while hes mindlessly rolling his hips is babbling broken sentences about how good it feels and how much he loves you, until all he can do is pant and moan and whimper, his eye rolling back/ going crossed(?), his mouth hanging open whiles hes drooling, sweating, shuttering from the overwhelming sensations... his thrusts are disjointed and curt (not on purpose, but because the pleasure is almost too much to handle, and he can't concentrate on keeping a rhythm) as he desperately clings to you or the bedsheets below him... and then something clicks- he finds a sweet spot, a certain groove, and his pace quickly ramps up until he climaxes hard, sooner than he expected or wanted to, because he just couldn't help it! It was so, so good, almost too good... amazingly, addictively good... 👉👈💓💦

He'd be so uncharacteristically sheepish once he came back to his senses and would apologize for finishing so quickly, but how could you possibly be at all upset after seeing him come completely undone like that, all because of you? No, you're not upset. If anything, you want it to happen again (and again, and again, and maybe once more, just for good measure...~) 😌💖👌💦

Undead Unluck Week Day 5: Favorite Arc

Anime only watchers and people who aren't caught up with the Manga, BEWARE... Cuz I'm about to discuss a bunch of Undead Unluck spoilers!! You have been warned...! 👌

[SPOILERS AHEAD FROM THIS POINT ON]

My goodness, there are SO MANY amazing arcs in this series that it's EXTREMELY hard for me to choose JUST ONE...!! 😩 Autumn was when this series became something truly special to me, Spring was one of THE HYPEST AND MOST BEAUTIFUL ARCS that I have ever read in ANY MANGA, Ragnarok was a ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS and broke my heart several times, and don't get me started on all the crazy and amazing arcs happening in Loop 101...!! 😆 But, there is one arc that I always go back to more than any other, one that focuses on a character that I absolutely love...!! 💗🤗💗 And if it isn't already obvious, I am of course talking about the Summer Arc...!! 😆

On the first day of UU Week, the Negator that I chose as my favorite was Shen...! 😁 So, it's kind of a no brainer that the Summer arc would be my favorite arc, especially since he's the main focus of it...!! 😆

There's a lot things that I love about this arc, but there's one thing that I kinda feel like is a weird thing to love this arc for... 😅 And that would have to be the facial expressions, particularly Shen's (here's some of my favorite ones):

You can just feel the anger and hatred coming from him after realizes that the man that he's been fighting was actually the man that he's been wanting to kill, his former master, Feng...! I don't know man, I honestly feel like this arc made me fully grasp just how much of I truly love and appreciate Yoshifumi Tozuka's art for Undead Unluck...!!

Something else that love in this arc was Shen and Andy's teamwork while fighting Feng in the first half of the fight!! 👏👏👏

I just love their dynamic so much, it just makes me want to see them team up again!! 😩 (Tozuka, please... I'M BEGGING YOU!! 🙏)

Voiceplay Visuals: Friends On The Other Side

This was one I was ridiculously eager to get to, because it is an absolute visual treat!!! Layne and the rest of PattyCake Productions really went all out with this video, and I think that it might actually be the most movie-accurate video for a Disney cover that Voiceplay has ever done (and although some things are changed, it's all so amazingly cool that you don't care in the slightest!). Also J None came back for this one to take the lead as Dr Facilier! Heck yeah! Let's get into this! (Oh and nearly forgot to mention: this was uploaded in mid-October of 2021 and was Voiceplay's Halloween upload for the year).

We got Cesar as Prince Naveen (perfect casting btw) (also he looks a bit different without more of a beard, but I don't hate it), and Eli as Lawrence, Naveen's servant (also another Eli Eyebrow Raise! And a strong one, too!)

PattyCake Productions has their own YouTube channel where they create videos based around Disney movies and Disney characters (often writing original songs for them) and it shows. They really went off with the costuming and set design (better than Disney would do with a live-action version of their own, almost definitely)

A more full-body look at J's costume (and cool staff!), plus Geoff and Layne as voodoo spirits! (Also note how Geoff is, once more, the one with the most-exposed arms/shoulders (love that for him 👌)

Geoff was asked on a Patreon Q&A or something like that if the thumb-down-the-side-of-the-head movement had any meaning to it, but no, he just thought it up himself as a little interesting/spooky/cryptic gesture (I mean... it worked??)

(Also there's so much detail to his outfit and I love it! The subtle patterning on the vest! The things that may or may not be fingerless gloves! The metal boney-finger things hanging off the shoulders! All the things around his neck! (And yes, he's still wearing the necklace he wears all the time)

And shoutout to Layne, who as you can see in the photo above this one, is wearing basically just as much stuff around his neck as Geoff, and he's got a (fake of course) bone through his nose as well? (I know the official audio is all overdubbed anyway, but I wonder how hard it is to beatbox with something like that on/in your nose?)

Now this is goddamned clever. How do you split the vocal lines of a single character up between multiple vocalists while still making it make sense in-universe? Well in this case, you have Dr Facilier work some voodoo magic so that he and/or the spirits are singing through Lawrence and Naveen, kinda sorta possessing them! The video is enhancing the song itself!!!

I actually went and watched the original Friends On The Other Side scene on YouTube (which I haven't done in ages), so I could better make comparisons, including screencap comparisons!

Also I just realised that after "Naveen's" little "I got friends on the other side" solo, while "Facilier" is echoing it as he sits down, "Lawrence" is attempting to get "Naveen's" attention with his eyes, and making facial expressions/head movements that can basically be summed up as "Hey! We need to leave! Now!"

(Seriously it often pays to focus on different people when rewatching Voiceplay stuff (or in my case when scanning for interesting/screencap-worthy moments, to rewind specific parts to focus on different people))

There's a lot going on in this picture. And also this moment made more sense after I rewatched the original scene (just that Voiceplay are swapping out the amulet for a shrunken head (fair - it's probably a lot harder to find an amulet that bites 😂))

Firstly, nice bit of acting/visual storytelling from Eli and Cesar there, and secondly, hey that's the magic lamp from Aladdin in the background on the left there!

And I haven't talked about it a ton here, but J 100% understood the assignment when it came to playing Dr Facilier. He even did some of the same kinda dancing/moves as in the original scene, like the side-to-side head movement on "I hope you're satisfied" (it was so smooth!)

Voiceplay always does something mind-blowing for Halloween. It might not always be something you expect, but it's always something that gives us plenty to talk about!

My issues with the Avatar Live action show. (Spoilers)

before I get on with this… rant I guess, I want to stress that I do not “Hate” this adaptation, I actually think it’s pretty…. decent. Mixed in terms of being an adaptation but as its own thing i do think it actually is good. If a newcomer gets introduced to the franchise through this show, I’d mostly be okay with that (though would still stress to watch the original, especially hinting about the rest of the story if they’re really invested) before I go into my biggest problems I should quickly list its positives.

The characters, for the most part, are done well, they meet the core criteria of what made the original characters so beloved. The acting, for the most part, is good, overall the cast does a really good job at their respective roles. Costumes are amazing, sets, while not exactly 1:1, are still overall awesome. soundtrack is really REALLY good, stellar work all round. The action is not only great, it’s BRUTAL AS FUCK, it does not shy away from the themes of war and death and I love that 😈 some of the expanded editions to the lore are really interesting, big shoutout especially to the inclusion that zuko’s crew is also the battalion he defends in the war room, that was actually brilliant 👌 on top of that, references and inclusions of stuff from expanded material I mostly really liked, from the comics, to legend of Korra to even the kyoshi novels. As for the writing and story…. I can accept no adaptation is perfect and there will be changes, I think it follows the moments of the show decently and that the writing is… adequate. overall rating for me is a decent… 6/10… almost was a 7 but… no.

okay now for the stuff that sucked!

The Characters that weren’t good:

Aang is not bad in this, character wise and acting is overall good, Gordon Cormier does a good job, he looks and sounds the part. My issues are how the character is written. Ill get into more about his biggest issues later on as it mostly has to do with writing and a few particular scenes, but for now I’ll harp on how repetitive and annoying his dialogue can be sometimes, way too many times has the character had the same “guilt scene” which hits the exact same beats: he sees devastation, he says “this is my fault”, he’s reassured it’s not. Again and again.

sokka is awful in this. And to be honest it’s not really the writings fault, Ian Ousleys portrayal does not do it for me, his line delivery is too monotone-ish, his emotional delivery is lacking, he has the same blank facial expression throughout the show. He has a decent one liner here and there, but the comedy and character is MILES away from the over expressive, hilarious and badass original.

zukos actor is decent just enough, and honestly it’s a little unfair to compare Dallas Liu to Dante Bascos performance, but admittedly I felt he was comparatively more underwhelming at times. Though if anything I was more annoyed at the look of his Scar. Don’t get me wrong, its leagues more noticeable than it was in the god awful movie adaptation… but it’s still not great. Remember how grotesque his scar is in the animated show, even at a distance, his skin is shrivelled, he can hardly open his eye, even his ear is half burnt off, they could of gone all out in showcasing his disfigurement, the greatest source of his self shame and most brutal showcase of his fathers cruelty and abuse… but no it’s just a dark red patch around his eye, it’s not even ugly to look at. Disappointing.

Bumi, while acted and portrayed really well by Utkarsh Ambudkar, is written very badly. His motivations have completely changed from the original, and no it is no where near as good, unlike in the show were he “toys” with Aang to teach him lessons about the journey ahead of him, offering wisdom and compassion to his old friend, keeping his identity a secret allowing Aang to realise who he is, making an emotional reunion when he realises another piece of his lost past is still alive: here Aang finds out immediately it’s him, and Bumi instead is pissed and petty that Aang left to the point HE TRIES TO KILL HIM, completely disregarding the point of the message and character from the original show. Oh and not to mention the ending scene with him, but again I’ll get to that scene later.

finally, biggest problem I’ll harp on the characters themselves is the diminishing, lack of focus and editing of the three protagonists flaws. Aangs childish immaturity, kataras inexperience, Sokkas rudeness and distrust. There are reasons why the show took these out or didn’t focus on them, but in my opinion this was a huge mistake to do. Character flaws are integral to character growth, throughout the original show we see the characters learn and grow with and out of said flaws to become more rounded and stronger characters, Aangs journey to embrace his destiny and responsibilities, Kataras growing wisdom and strength, Sokka accepting his wrongdoings becoming more open minded and accepting. Diminishing these ultimately take away a lot from these characters and it does them and the fans a huge disservice to outright ignore them at times.

Aang and Kataras bond is there… but it’s Seriously lacking!

I’m a Kataang shipper. Before I go into detail with this I think it’s important to point out a certain bias I might have with this, but regardless of any opinions about the original shows romantic themes, I’d still argue that Aang and Kataras relationship is one of the core and integral bonds of the original show (the others being Katara and Sokka, Zuko and Iroh, Aang and Zuko and Zuko and Azula (book 2 onwards) so getting this right is in my opinion important to any adaptation. Overall their relationship is fine in this iteration, but MAN it’s just not as good.

Imagine my utmost disappointment When in this version: Katara is not the first person Aang sees when he wakes up! Now I know that seems like a petty thing to harp on but really think back to the original show, how beautifully written their friendship was, how they constantly support and empathise with each other, how Aang is a source of Kataras hope, how Katara is an emotional rock for Aang when coming to terms with his loss and grief. All of it starts with the foundation of their first meeting in that first episode. After a hundred years of sleep, Katara accidentally discovers Aang (with Sokka) and rushes to save him, the first person Aang sees as he opens his eyes is her, he immediately, and essentially asks her out. Katara introduces him to her village, she’s enamoured by his playful attitude and abilities, there are hints of a blooming crush between them (mostly from Aang) they promise to explore the world together, they go penguin sledding, until finally, when Katara realises and breaks the truth about Aangs 100 year absence and slow realisation that everything and everyone he knew is likely gone, Katara tries to reassure him mentioning there may be a bright side: Aang responds with “I did get to meet you”. all of that build up and setup of the friendship (and budding romance) of our two leads is masterfully established in one, 23 minute long episode. Really think about that. It takes the original show 1 episode to set the core points of the two lead’s relationship in what takes this show AN ENTIRE SERIES TO PROPERLY ESTABLISH! Not only is all of that practically absent in this iteration, but plenty of scenes and moments are either missing or lessened, Such as when Katara calms Aang out of the Avatar state, or how they begin to train and learn their waterbending together (more on THAT later), cave of two lovers is now given to Katara and Sokka?? (really missed the point of that episode) or how about the mutual understanding of each others grief through their own grief, oh yeah that’s another thing, in this version Katara, nor Sokka for that matter, ever mention to Aang that their mother is dead?! Not once. I don’t even think he ever knows, or maybe he finds out off screen? Big thing to not mention guys??

Now there are plenty of scenes in the show that do help build up their friendship here, but by missing core scenes, especially those from the first episodes, it just makes it harder for the show to establish that bond towards an audience, and again just pales in comparison.

No statue room???

I’ll be a little more brief here, but the fact that this moment is completely missing infuriates me. You have the quintessential moment where Aang is in full view of the scope of his legacy, a monument to hundreds of all the past avatars, a moment for our characters and the audience to visually realise the weight and burden that Aang Carries upon his shoulders… and you completely take it out??? What the actual FUCK???

Kyoshis premonition almost ruins the show! as awesome and badass as Avatar Kyoshi was in this version, this one tidbit is by far not just a weird addition, it’s arguably one of the biggest fundamental flaws of the show, not as an adaptation, but the show in of it self. The idea apparently (according to behind the scenes comments) is that kyoshis premonition to Aang of the northern watertribes destruction is to give him more of an assentive to head “straight to the point”, removing the unnecessary detours and filler of the original. The problem with that is even for that reason, this addition is completely pointless, because Aang already has enough assentive to head to the north: LEARN WATERBENDING!!!

In the original show after Katara and Sokka save Aang from zukos ship in the 2nd episode, they establish that they must find Aang a water bending master so he can begin his first step in becoming the avatar, in fact rewatching the first few episodes, AANG MAKES THE SUGGESTION FIRST TO KATARA SO SHE CAN MASTER HER WATERBENDING! Even the god awful movie understood that that was enough reason to head north! And if you really want more reason and imperative for them to get there as soon as, why not just reiterate that there is a WAR GOING ON! The attack on the south, the genocide of the air nomads, accidentally bringing an invasion to Kyoshi island, these are all good enough reminders for the Gaang to showcase the need for Aang to head to the known one place in the world where Aang can possibly master an art integral to achieving his destiny. But even worse than that, this addition seriously hurts the show going foward, because now, after Aang has been shown the impending doom destined for the north, he STILL detours from it, not once but twice! (And according to one gossiping bartender, possibly a few more times!!) in an attempt to try to showcase his nobility and compassion to always help those in need, every time he decides to stop to help a new problem, HE IS LITERALLY RISKING THE DESTRUCTION OF AN ENTIRE CIVILISATION!!! Priorities dude!!! It’s not like he’s given a time frame, for all he knows this premonition could happen at anytime, it could be already happening??? It is by far one of the biggest, if not THE BIGGEST flaw of the show.

Muddying the rules of the spirits and spirit realm

Aside from kyoshis future sight, too many instances does this show, in an attempt to expand ideas of worlds spirituality, often just make things more confusing. Another example is when Aang accidentally drags Katara and Sokka into the spirit world, which even with the reasoning they give it makes no sense whatsoever and it only serves an excuse to combine moments from other episodes into one. Or how about when wan shi tong… for some reason… explains that spirits can only talk to the avatar and only they can communicate with and talk to spirits… except that rule is completely ignored when Katara and Sokka can clearly hear what koh is saying? ooops???

Hai Bai has no agency or resolution in his inclusion here, he’s not even the central threat despite HIS forest being burnt. Instead of going on a full rampage against humanity for their destruction, he’s now just really angry about being wounded? Instead of hai bai kidnapping people, it’s now Koh, who while still really creepy in this version, his abilities are now greatly diminished. Instead of his lightning quick speed to remove the faces of anyone who show any ounce of emotion in his presence, here he can only prey on negative emotions, and is never shown to be especially fast (except the two jump scares). again it just pales in comparison to the intensity of the original scene.

Kuruk should know why his advice is horseshit!

while I like the inclusion of some details of the lore outside the original show, using it during Aangs scene with Kuruk significantly hurts his first scene, because now we have the writers completely miss the point and lessons of Kuruks life. Kuruks advice to “walk the path alone” to “distance himself from his friends” is not just obviously poor advice on its own, but considering that the past avatars are aware of events after their death, it especially doesn’t make sense coming from Kuruk! Avatar Kuruk HAD friends! the kyoshi novels go into detail about his closest companions as well as his secret deeds of hunting dark spirits. Yes Kuruk did it in secret and inadvertently and purposely distanced himself from the people he loved so that he could in his mind protect them, and that’s excusable because Avatars never have hindsight about some of the consequences of their actions, in fact past avatars often use their mistakes and their consequences as advice and warnings to the current avatar. KURUK SHOULD BE ADVISING THE EXACT OPPOSITE!!!

One of the major consequences of pushing his friends and keeping secrets was that when he eventually died mysteriously at a young age, his companions felt they had failed in their mission to serve and protect their friend, pushing one of them, Jianzhu, to fall into a path of political meddling and corruption, and being consumed with keeping his power and influence through back handed tactics like kidnapping, torture, intimidation and murder, eventually becoming Kyoshi’s earliest nemesis and one of her greatest enemies (highly recommend reading the Kyoshi novels 😍) Not to mention that Kuruks “advice” leads to an incredibly forced scene and trope where our hero attempts to push Katara away and “nobly distances himself to protect his friend”, only for the advice to be immediately ignored a few minutes later, making it entirely pointless.

AANG NEVER LEARNS WATERBENDING???

yes, through the entirety of BOOK 1 WATER, Aang never learns waterbending! Katara offers to show him some techniques she knows in one scene, but for some reason he’s hesitant to take her offer, which would have been interesting to explore, except they never really address it?? Worse even when they finally reach Pakku in the north, all that happens is that he’s kind of scolded for not starting his training, but not once is it seen or mentioned by pakku that he’ll teach him ANYTHING. If there’s enough time to have Katara shown water healing lessons as well as arguing and fighting Pakku to teach her combative techniques, WHY THEN DOES EVERYONE IGNORE TRAINING THE GOD DAMN AVATAR!!! The fate of the world rests on Aang learning the 4 elements, but for some reason they completely leave it out?

Now Katara is mentioned to teach him in the future like in the original, but the problem now in this version is that while Katara is gifted and talented, unlike the original show she’s never formally trained (outside of healing lessons) by Pakku or a master to warrant her to become Aangs official waterbending teacher. They are literally leaving the training of the most important person of their time to an AMATEUR!!!

a baffling diversion?!?!

Finally my last big problem with the show is the handling of the ending scene. Take in mind that the fire nation sends an entire fleet, no, hundreds upon hundreds of ships to invade, subjugate and snuff out an entire civilisation, and to take out the avatar, once and for all. Also consider the sheer loss of life and devastation that was unleashed by the ocean spirit upon them when zhao murdered the moon spirit, they got hit back hard and then some, honestly it was spectacular to watch! The problem, according to Ozai: “it was all according to plan”…..

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCKING FUCK?!?!?!

apparently it’s revealed that the North Pole wasn’t the “real target”, but instead a “clever ploy” to instead… invade Omashu?? First of all, who are you creating a diversion for??? We don’t see earth kingdom soldiers coming to assist the fight in Agna Q’ela? It’s not like we ever see waterbenders helping to defend Omashu when we were there earlier, it’s not like anyone outside the protagonists was aware of Aangs premonition (oh by the way why didn’t Kyoshi warn Aang it was a “diversion”??) WHO ARE FUCKING TALKING ABOUT???

and again, just to reiterate, you are saying you sacrificed an ENTIRE INVASION FORCE, big enough to destroy a whole society, which led to a huge loss of life and ships which YOU CLAIM was “to be expected”…. In order for you to take one city???? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FUCKING JOKING??? That’s not just bad writing, that is beyond STUPID!!! Oh and just to add, unlike in the show where Bumi willingly surrenders to avoid the destruction of Omashu, instead opting to wait for the right opportunity to free it later, saving his people doing so, here we see him bruised and bloodied after a siege! Yeah, one of the most powerful earth-benders in the world is taken out offscreen!!! CHRIST ALL BLOODY MIGHTY!!!

He’s a pretty complex character because at first you would’ve guessed he’s just a serial killer like any other villain characters but the second you’d catch on, he’ll act like an innocent prick

Overall, he likes causing chaos between two opposing sides and sometimes prefers being a spectator

Q&As (more questions can be added):

1. How do you address Eike if he’s made up of two people? Do we call him a ‘he’ or a ‘they’?

Answer: His pronouns are he/him since Elijah is mostly the one in control as Eike (he also picked up that name to hide his identity) also because Emir’s half decapitated face is unconscious in Elijah’s control so he won’t be able to control everything for the time being unless Elijah wakes him up and lets him have control but atp Emir’s looking like he’s gonna be ‘dead’ for awhile.

2. Who is the parasite and how does it work?

Answer: Elijah, to be more specific, that’s his ability. He can control someone’s body by merging his blood with someone else’s. As long as that person he’s targeting has the same blood type as him, which is O, or else he’ll be dead in an instant. Mixing his blood with a different blood type is like feeling drenched up acid to him.

3. If Eike’s occupation is being a detective, wouldn’t his co-workers be suspicious of his conditions to his face?

Answer: His face is usually covered up with his hair and he only uncovers it when he’s alone so don’t worry 👌

4. How did he managed to get a certified occupation with the way he looks??

Answer: In the beginning, they picked him up in the alleyway beside a garbage bin during an investigation. At first he was gonna be placed in an orphanage as a joke until he told them his age and “dream” which was to become a detective. They doubted him at first based from the way he presents himself until during another investigation (someone had to keep watch on him so they suggested on bringing him on work lol) and was surprised on how well-observant he was throughout. 5. How did you come up with a character like Eike?

Answer: After listing my ocs, I noticed that I never had a neutral character before so there, I started coming up with a few concepts. He was supposed to have elf ears but that small detail is scratched from my sheet because it’s useless. It took me half an hour to think about it because I wanted this character to have a chaotic appearance and personality but still complex. I decided that the mix of black and pink would suit him. I thought of black and white at first but nah, I don’t think I’ve seen any characters with the mix of black and pink that much before so I chose those color palettes.

6. If he dislikes any items involving time, why does he have a pocket watch?

Answer: He’s wearing it around his neck as a spiteful way towards Fumihiko for treating him like shit for 3 years so he stole it from him (and a very useful thing at that because the pocket watch he’s holding onto right now is someone else’s life so if he ever breaks it, that someone will die, though, he doesn’t know it yet)

Additionally, I just wanna admire Peter Franzén's acting and portrayal as both the Koskela brothers and the unhinged murderous Ilmari Huotari in the short movie becos <33

Tbh, when I first saw the ads, I thought they were separate actors lmao because they have such distinct personalities. It takes a good actor to act 'badly' and corny, but it worked so well for the Koskelas. Ilmo has this big body language, exaggerated gestures, boomy and vivid voice. Neatly balanced out by Jaakko who gives more dead-pan deliveries with a straight face. But! He has his own charms: subtle facial expressions and gestures, how he comes alive when he flips the government the bird, subtle smiles.

In-game Ilmo also have a very expressive face and makes grand gestures when he promotes the ads and Coffee World (props to the animators). Also I like that he is slightly hunched over in-game.

Then we have their final moments together. They sound angry, but also desperate because they've gone through many years of supernatural horror and it seems they're so close to putting an end to it. It's out of love for their community and each other. The stakes are so high, so ofc they're pissed off when some shady governments swoop in and try to save the day!

After Jaakko gets brutally killed off, you can hear the emotion in Ilmo's voice. Experiencing all stages of grief at the same time ;_; When he calls out for his brother, it sounds so soft and broken 😭

And finally, Ilmari in the short movie. Deranged, unhinged, sadistic man <3 Love him. He is cleanly put together at the beginning, with his hair slick back but that quickly changes. The way he threatens the detective like a starved wolf is just 😫

He gleefully stabs the detective to death, overcome with bloodlust and his hair gets all messy 👌 He is a completely different character from Ilmo.

Finally had the time to watch the FNAF movie in cinemas. Here are my thoughts (Spoilers ahead!)

Overall, the story was pretty decent. It certainly had its moments where it went off tangent from the canon, but it wasn't so fantastic to the point that it was completely off brand. It even paid good attention to detail! In one of the dream sequences where mike was cut by  Foxy's hook, the next shot when he woke up to the flickering lights if u looked at his left arm there is a visible tear on the fabric of his hoodie in the same fashion he was cut in the forest sequence earlier.

Another good example of  the movie paying attention to detail would be the scene where Mike sees Abby with the animatronics. He grabs the chair in an attempt to attack Freddy but once he gets up and close to him he hesitates. It gives us - the audience - a glimpse into just how large and intimidating these robots are actually IRL. An educated guess on my part says they are probably on average 2 meters(?) in height.

Also, Lillard is THE William Afton. You will not convince me otherwise. He literally ate and left no crumbs in this role. The "I'll always come back" as he places the mask back on?! PLEASE 😩 👌

The scene where Mike first meets "The Yellow Rabbit" i.e. Afton in his suit is so well done. The atmosphere as Afton walks in with his knife was tense and intimidating in its own right. Mike attempts to tase him at first assuming he is just another animatronic but the fluidity in Aftons movements later says afterwards. This is especially in contrast to the movements of Bonnie, Freddy, Chica and Foxy. Once again, great attention to detail!

But if I had to pick favourites in terms of scenes, the springlock suit failure has my whole heart. Hands down. Lillards performance here as the springlocks "eats" into his body was phenomenal. The facial expressions of the animatronics in this scene was absolutely the cherry on top. What a way to end the movie with a banger! Honorable mention goes to the post credit scene where Afton was on the ground trembling in the pizzerias backroom. His hand reached out to the door in the last part, indicating that like Abby he can see the ghost children.

TLDR: to me, although the Movie is not the best horror movie out there, it is still worth the watch! Although it is produced primarily for the hardcore fans of this franchise (hence perhaps the reason why some casual audience members expressed their confusion with the plot), it certainly won't be a waste of money to the casual fan of indie video game horror.
