So I took a break from using google products for a while. Last year I gave in and started using Jamboard. Fortunately since then I've picked up enough html to think I can clap together a tackboard for myself with plenty of space to make it pretty later. If I want to access it from just one computer, I can leave it in the file systems and run those internal files on a browsing program (life firefox) like any other .html website. If I want to be able to access it anywhere I'm logged into my home wifi, I can host it from a turned on device (a computer or a phone), or even maybe on a hard drive plugged into the router (some mid grade to fancy ones have usb ports for simple storage) It will be kind of clunky, but a fun project to improve the look and input options over time, and as long as I back up the files periodically, I don't have to worry about people out of town adding software migrations to my life. I think it's a reasonable goal to have more direct control over more of the computing tools I use, insofar as I can. I think a lot of accessibility has been taken off the internet and out of our cultural communication about how the 'net works... and with a little curiosity and flexibility, users can add that back for themselves perhaps.

So I've been working on a Fae AU and I just need you understand the brainworms I am DEALING WITH, my beloved spouse!!! Imagine for a moment: you've got wangxian morons both thinking that the other is a human. Wei Wuxian (the beloved Summer/Spring Court Fae), who has been stowed away in the Autumn Court all his life, has never met any Fae outside of the Autumn Court, and Lan Wangji (Winter Court Fae) has met all of the other Courts apart from the Summer Court (which is basically extinct apart from Wei Wuxian) and the Spring Court (because they have isolated themself from the rest of the world) so he's like "obviously this is just a human who is using charms to gain Fae features like the humans from the Winter Court". Cue wild shenanigans where they keep bumping each other and completely believing that the other is a human so being all like "this fucking human should NOT be here, also how is this human SO PRETTY?!?! HUMANS SHOULDN'T BE PRETTIER THAN FAE!!!" while the Jiang siblings completely believe that this 'Hanguang-Jun' Winter Court human pet is trying to seduce Wei Wuxian into joining the Winter Court despite not knowing what Court he's from, and Lan Xichen (and Nie Huaisang, a Night Court Fae) completely thinks that Lan Wangji is going insane whenever he talks about this 'Yiling Laozu' human. Sometimes.

Sometimes Wei Ying misses Yiling like a part of his soul rests in it (he supposes in a way it does). He walks through Gusu and pretends that for a moment, he's back in Yiling, his friends are right around the corner, the aunties that scolded him to not run so fast and then slipped a plum or two in his hand ( "-you look so pale, wei gongzi!" ) nevermind the amount of times he refuses them.

But then he opens his eyes and the only thing that remains for him is the gaping ache in his heart that he pretends doesn't exist. He pretends he doesn't cry himself to sleep some days, pretends that he doesn't see how pale he actually is now, pretends that every time he eats the bland food at Gusu he doesn't feel the aching sharpness in his ribs that reminds him of how much he misses his shijie. He pretends that every time it's winter his back doesn't hurt a lot too but Lan Zhan always manages to trick him into getting a warm massage.

Lan Zhan helps in the way he can. He buys Wei Ying whatever spices he could want and holds him through the really bad days when Wei Ying cries so hard that he tries to claw the pain out. He tries really hard to make Gusu easier for Wei Ying to live in.

But sometimes.

Sometimes Wei Ying dreams of rivers and lakes and the warm sun on his arms. He dreams of holding Jiang Cheng the way he used to Before. He dreams of how his hair used to be slightly wavy at the end due to the how humid Yunmeng used to get, how his muscles used to be when he was younger, when he used to swim.

Gods, the water. Lan Zhan can only take him to the lake so many times with the amount of responsibilities he had. He misses swimming. Mo Xuanyu's body couldn't hold breaths for long periods of time. He misses the small lake near Yunmeng Jiang that Madam Yu insisted both Jiang Cheng and him learn to swim when they were younger. He wonders if it's still there, wonders if Jin Ling had ever swam in it.

He thinks absent-mindedly whether Shijie ever felt so homesick when she got married.

OKAY OKAY OKAY!!!! Now, where were we... Okay so Lan Wangji is possibly going through the many stages of both gay realisation and also dealing with pain beyond the average person's comprehension considering that he was just dragged by an already injured leg into what would have been his death. Would have. If not for this impossibly confusing, confirmed psychopath literally prying open the jaw of a huge, man-eating monster to save his life. And then carrying him to safety on his back as though he too was not injury. Now all he can do is stare emptily as Wei Wuxian walks around the cave they have taken refuge in, a fire crackling nearby and the sound of the man of the hour muttering to himself as he sizes up different pieces of wood.

Lan Wangji would ask what the hell happened back there, but he's currently trying not to think too much both because he cannot breathe from the agony. (Also because every time he closes his eyes, all he can see is Wei Wuxian looking down at him with those strangely mesmerising eyes, muscles straining and the light from a nearby fire falling over his face-) Next thing he knows, Wei Wuxian is kneeling beside him and nattering on about how his leg is "really fucked up, actually!" while reaching out to pull Lan Wangji's pant leg up. Of course, his natural reaction is to grab the man's hand because seeing each others' calves is something that only happens at least three months into courting surely!

There's a pretty similar interaction to canon with Lan Wangji actually losing his fucking mind with everything that Wei Wuxian is doing to him, times ten because he can't be gay about medically treated by a Wen!! It's Not Allowed. Then Wei Wuxian makes a joke like "but of course you're scandalised by my bare chest, I bet anyone who shows off even their wrists get cut down by the Lan, don't they?" This is of course not the first comment he's made in this fashion, and Lan Wangji is too tired to care about propriety as he's like "why do you keep saying things like that?" Wei Wuxian looks at him weird and goes "because the Lans are overly traditional lunatics who suppress other ideologies and kill anyone who disagree with them???"

Cue a moment of silence where they're both just staring at each other as each and every time Jin Zixuan was like 'I swear they're like brainwashed or something' only to be met with scepticism flashes in his mind. He, very calmly, is like "what about the other sects?" and sits there as this man describes twisted versions of the sects (all of them seemingly carrying an aspect of the Wen within them, intriguingly). He's drafting an apology to Jin Zixuan for not believing him. "And the Wen told you this?" "Uhh, duh? Who else would tell me the truth??" It could almost be regarded as a joke if it weren't for how sincere Wei Wuxian sounds, how sincere he looks as he stares right back at him.

Lan Wangji doesn't really want to unpack all of this right now - a secret, bitter part of him is telling him that it doesn't matter if the man (teenager, just like him) didn't know, because he still killed all those people for his experiments - but he needs to talk about the Lan Sect to someone. His home has just been burned to the ground. He's grasping for any sense of comfort he can find trapped in a cave with a Wen and a monster. He tells Wei Wuxian that his home isn't like that and ignores the boy's scoffs of "sure it isn't" as he starts (in short, succinct phrases) describing what his home is like. What his life is - was like, before the fire. He doesn't even know if Wei Wuxian is listening to him.

Meanwhile, Wei Wuxian is listening to this Lan speak of his home like it is this peaceful place built upon serenity and rules, organisation that exists only as a form of comfort for those within the sect. A romantic backstory of a monk falling in love and creating his own sect because of it. It's nothing like the picture he had had painted for him, one of a sect thick with suppression and fear, control gained through threat of death, no chance to change and grow with shackles pulling one down. The Lan is surely, surely lying to him, but he speaks with such conviction that it is hard not to believe even just a little. It's not real of course, it can't be real. What would it mean if it was?

It's nothing for Wei Wuxian to dwell on. He stands up, frowning to himself at the sight of the other boy looking so sickly and pale - the food that the disciples were given wasn't conductive for health according to Wen Qing, and it shows. Lan Wangji doesn't ask where he's going, opening one of his eyes to watch him leave after closing them at some point in the silence of the cave. Wei Wuxian needs to go - he needs to think, and find some logic in Lan Wangji's words (after all, there is truth in every good lie). Or, better yet, he needs to plan for Xue Yang (and perhaps the other Wen) eventually coming back for him. It would do no good to have him come face to face with a monster in his attempts to save him, and Wei Wuxian needs to take his mind off things.

The only logical thing to do is to kill the monster!

Hearing out Meng Yao's miseries and reassuring him and holding him gently. Meng Yao of course tries to bear it alone and with grace but Lan Xichen is honored to hear out Meng Yao's woes and be of any sort of help he can... 🥺

Another little songxiao dynamic i love: the mutual devotion. Of course Song Lan would be devoted to Xingchen, it's not hard to fall into it; Xiao Xingchen is an immortal's desciple, he's remarkably beautiful, remarkably kind, remarkably graceful, otherworldy. It is no surprise that Song Lan would give himself completly to follow him anywhere.

But it's the fact that it's mutual- Song Lan is just some guy from some temple, without a sect or a name, he has nothing but his beliefs and his skills. He's not social, not charming, he's unremarkable. And still. And still, Xiao Xingchen will follow him anywhere. The immortal's desciple, he will ask Song Lan's opinion, will trust his judgment, will admire his convictions, will make him his home. He looks at Song Lan like he's something precious, relaxes in his presence, dreams of their future. It's the fact that Xingchen too chooses Song Lan every day.

It's been a while huh? How about a long ass trolls au post? Would that be anything?

Ok but seriously I'm obsessed with them and wrecked my sleep schedule for two nights in a row because I was having so much fun drawing them. I haven't seen any crossovers yet and I have many thoughts about how the mdzs/trolls lore works.

I was thinking about making each clan a different type of troll (the lans would fit classical so well etc but I wasn't really into the cupid aesthetic lmao) but the point of this at the beginning was just to get rid of major art block by drawing cute trolls so I just did whatever :'D

The gist of it is Wei Wuxian is a rock troll adopted into the pop troll society by the jiangs and in his yiling laozu era he fully leans into the rock side of himself that he used to suppress to fit in. I had to make Chenqing into an electric guitar, obviously, (rip wangxian duet) and he uses it to control rock zombies. As usual he gets resurrected by Mo Xuanyu (Did he die by being eaten? Maybe.) and his final form reflects both his love for pop while embracing his rock side as well. Also yes, the Jin trolls are yellow, so.

Since the Lan clan are not really classical trolls I thought they're instead more of the love ballad type of pop, (fits the lans only love once thing too!) so, very sentimental. Which makes Lan Wangji stand out by being cold and seemingly closed off while he's secretly composing love songs for Wei Wuxian. Design-wise I felt the lans would wear more layers and keep their hair tied but I wanted to differentiate the style from Wei Wuxian's ponytail so it's either a half tied up (down? since troll hair goes up??) or a bun. I thought it was funny to give Lan Wangji a huge hairpiece to keep the high hair thing going even when it's tied. Also it kinda marks his age, the taller it is the older he is. Maybe it's a status symbol as well.

I didn't really put too much though into A-Yuan since I just randomly decided to add him cause baby trolls are adorable but basically just Wen colours and the pigtails are homage to manhua A-Yuan whom I love.

Overall I tried to mix design elements from both ips and I really like how they turned out. I think that's all for now. :'D

Like I just saw a drawing with Amanda the Adventurer, Dora the Explorer, and Ni Hao, Kai-Lan all being cute little friends and having a sleepover 😍 Also the Welcome Home ARG and Don't Hug Me I'm Scared crew interacting with the Muppets and Sesame Street is always super cute. I know a real popular one is Bendy from BATIM being part of the cartoon universe with Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny. Someone needs to draw the og FNAF gang hanging out with the Chuck E Cheese characters cuz that be so adorable 💕 Also idk why but I feel like the Poppy Playtime characters would fit right in with the Blue's Clues universe.
