actually re: Neverafter but just re-read the rewrite I did of Little Red Riding Hood for my Fairy Tales class and i was a fucking genius for it
#shhh sharkie#give me 1 like and i’ll post it here and make an actual AO3 account just to post it#i might edit it a tad but just like some grammar and sentence structure#it’s about the cyclical nature of fairy tales and stories in general and also about loss of innocence throughout a life time#and i think i did a fucking bang up job of the oral fairy tale structure of repetition and rule of threes and such#like this story is made to be read out loud#honestly i know people do podfics on AO3 too so if i post it and the story gets x amount of hits or kudos ill record myself reading it#it’s literally one of my writing pieces that i’m the most proud of#still mad it only got an honorary mention in my college’s semesterly writing publication#idr what those were called but basically we had mandatory writing classes and each semester you could submit anything you wrote for those#writing journal? maybe? idk. anyway.#my professor was like ‘edit the actual essay part a bit but this is a very strong contender for an award’#and then i got like. listed in the honorary mentions. bullshit.#most of the writing courses were creative writing though it was a lot of full on essays that won every semester#creative writing was already very shafted in general#ANYWAY IM RANTING but i’m in full fairy tale mood and maybe i’ll make an AO3 to just post all of my fairy tales that I did#and maybe some other stuff. i forget that i’m actually a fairly decent writer. mostly academic but i don’t do bad creative

hi, my name is roman. i used to be a semi-popular winteriron blog, but now this blog is mostly dead. so. rip, gone but not forgotten. but i still get some pretty common questions so here's a one-stop shop for most of them as well as links to the important things.
My Tumblr Fic Masterlist
My Ao3
My (dead) WinterIron Discord Server
Did you write the Tony Stark wifi tower fic?
yes, i wrote that fic! it is by far the most popular thing i've ever written and it will probably outlive me.
I found that fic on [insert site here], do they have your permission?
probably not, no. i have found that fic everywhere. and i mean everywhere. pinterest, wattpad, facebook, instagram, tiktok, mediachomp, and so on. honestly, it's been years and i can't control or chase down every single copy and i have no interest in doing so. i don't love that it was stolen from me (especially on for-profit sites) but it just is what it is. it's a fanfic rite of passage to have your stuff stolen, honestly.
can i do a translation/podfic/write something inspired by one of your fics/posts?
yes! there is always a blanket permission to do any sort of transformative work with my work, especially my older stuff. if it sparks joy and creativity in you, run wild with it. i prefer to be credited, but honestly, i'm just happy to see my stuff still inspiring people.
will you ever write winteriron/mcu fanfic again?
well, you should never say never. but in this case, you might want to say never. i have very little interest in winteriron or the mcu in general outside of nostalgia, and i likely will never write anything substantial for them again. it's sad, i miss it too, but i just don't have that spark for marvel these days. mostly i write dc comics fanfiction.
did you write [insert winteriron fic/post here]?
idk. maybe. probably. i wrote and posted a lot of things. you can scroll the tag on this blog to find all my old posts, some more popular than others. if you think it was me, chances are, it probably was. i got around a lot from like 2018 to 2020.
do you have a tagging system?
i used to but lord if i'm going to use it now. i don't even remember it, so your guess is as good as mine. tbh i just use tags as a place to ramble these days so navigating my blog is about as easy for you as it is for me. which is to say, it's not easy at all. because tumblr's search function is ass. i do know one of my old tags has my deadname in it. you'll probably find it if you look hard enough, but that is what it is.
are you going to revive this blog?
probably not consistently, no. if i have something i really want to say here, i'll say it, but i don't have much interest in maintaining this like i used to. i want to be able to, i miss posting here a lot, i just don't think it'll spark joy for me the way it used to, which sucks but that's just the way things go.
why did you leave this blog?
idk. life happened. i was an 18-year-old fighting chronic health conditions and mental health issues that led to me dropping out of high school so, tumblr sort of fell to the back burner, then got forgotten about entirely. eventually, i lost interest in the mcu as i felt the quality of it took a turn for the worst and i went back to dc, which i'm still into. i read some marvel comics, enjoy an occasional mcu project, but largely i just don't have the interest i used to. it sucks and i miss it, this blog probably kept me alive as a teenager. but now it's mostly just an archive of my past, and i'm okay with that.
can i talk to you/send you an ask/befriend you anyway?
sure, if you want, don't know if i'm good company though. but i'm always open to making friends and reminiscing about winteriron, marvel, and all that good stuff. i've gotta warn you though, tumblr fucking eats my DMs on this blog like no fucking business. i'm regularly fighting it. my discord is devilbonesofmetal if you wanna yell at me there, just say you're from tumblr.

AO3 Tag Game!
Starting a new post because the old one was getting a bit long!! I was tagged by @mahpotatoequeen <3333
How many works do you have on AO3? 21! Mostly oneshots and one long(ish) fic.
What’s your total AO3 word count? 137,409
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they? One! Two if you count the book and the show as separate fandoms. But it's always been The Mysterious Benedict Society so far. I'd love to write for other fandoms someday, probably Good Omens, but this is where I feel comfortable with for now, both in terms of knowing the characters/story and the tight-knit fandom :D
Top five fics by kudos:
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Epistolary Bullying Campaign (because of course it is. this was my first crack fic and I wrote it at 1AM when I had an exam the next day. sigh)
5PM Every Evening, On the Dot
46 Fairview St. Apartment 2A, Stonetown
Thank the Stars Above
Time and a Half
Do you respond to comments?
In theory. I love chatting with people about fics - best way to make friends honestly - and I love when authors reply to my comments on their works! In practice I haven't replied in a while, which upsets me but it's more of a time/spoons thing. If I have time and energy I'd rather spend that commenting on one of my friends' fics rather than replying to comments on one of my own fics.
What’s the fic with the angstiest ending you’ve ever written?
I really don't do angsty endings! They're not always happy, but they tend to be bittersweet or open rather than angsty, and even if everything isn't resolved, I usually try to get across that the fic is ending in the middle of a situation and that everything will be okay later (like this snippet). I think the three that come closest are Let Steep Ten Minutes, Keeping Time with Curtain's +1 section, and 46 Fairview St. where it's kind of left open whether SQ will ever go back to visit his father. But again, those don't really feel angsty, just somewhat bittersweet with the hope that things will grow and get better.
Do you write crossovers? I haven't yet, but I'd be open to it! I think it's really challenging to write a good and cohesive crossover and I'm not sure where I'd start.
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Nope! Perks of being in a small fandom. I imagine it does happen but I know y'all would have my back
Do you write smut?
Definitely not for mbs. I'd be open for other fandoms but it's not really what interests me the most.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of! I suppose someone might have fed a fic of mine into an AI writing generator which I'd personally consider a form of stealing, but I haven't heard of that happening. Please don't do that :)
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No! I've thought of trying to translate some of my own for funsies, but I'm definitely not at that level yet! Although the lovely @sophieswundergarten has made a few amazing podfics of both my fics and some other excellent fics in the mbs fandom, which I'd consider translation of a sort!
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
For mbs I'm more interested in platonic/familial connections, but I suppose I'd say Milligan/Moocho if I had to pick one? I really don't care if they're romantic or not though, I just like them together in any form that takes. For all-time I suppose I'd say Aziraphale and Crowley, though again I'm really not too picky about the nature of that, romantic or otherwise. Perks of being aroace spectrum baybe
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
Never say never! But I do have a longer Curtain Wins AU buzzing around in my brain where Reynie and Sticky "join" him at the end of Book/Season 1 and then work to bring him down from the inside, without getting caught up in his manipulations. That might end up being comparable to Time and a Half in length, so maybe someday when I have an abundance of free time.
What are your writing strengths?
I think I write some banger first sentences :D especially in crack/funny fics
What are your writing weaknesses?
Too many adverbs! Also I get very easily stuck on exposition/beginning/ending/filler parts. I tend to write down the most tense/exciting moments for the fic and then the writing process stalls for the next three months.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
For a real language, I think it can be a great opportunity to showcase a character's backstory/culture. It can also be immersive for the audience - if a character is in a foreign country where they don't speak the language, including pieces of dialogue in that language can help the audience understand how lost they're feeling (assuming the audience doesn't speak that language either)! If you're using a translation source though it can make for some pretty hilarious errors and mistranslations.
I think made-up languages absolutely fuck but I could never include one in my fic because I'd nerd out creating an entire writing, grammar, and vocab system and forget to write the actual fic.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
take a wild guess
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
absolutely not. top 5:
Time and a Half
46 Fairview St
And Without It One Cannot Start Over
The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Epistolary Bullying Campaign
Keeping Time
Tagging: @binnudacademy (consider this a tag for your main, sorry about the shadowban. free molly 2k24) @ragecndybars @bi-demon-ium @trentcrimminallybeautiful (you pick which <3) @oflightningandstars and anyone else that wants to!!

tagged for the 'fic writer interview' by @mikkeneko! thanks for thinking of me, hopefully i have something interesting to share in it 🙈
Fic Writer Interview
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
21! the bingplush fic this last week finally pushed me over the edge of the page limit, i no longer have only a single page of fic!!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
440,163
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Tumblr media
every time i post a fic i hope to somehow oust 'to love another' from that #1 spot... every time i know it'll never happen :'D
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
every one i get, for the most part! i never want to take for granted the people who support me, and making sure i actually sit down and take the time and effort to respond to comments is, i've found, the best way for me to do that.
that being said, there are exceptions. i generally don't respond to criticism, general negativity, comments that don't really seem to be... about the fic, or comments that have a grammar correction and nothing else 😅
5. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
'raised by winter winds' or 'you don't need poltergeists for sidekicks' - both have bittersweet endings, which is the closest i'll ever get to an unhappy end, LOL.
6. What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
discounting the short fics i've done that are just slice of life / domestic bliss for bingqiu, probably 'shallow water weather.' as happy an ending as any of my stuff, but with none of the angst to get there 😂
7. Do you write crossovers?
nope, and generally don't plan to. even the AUs i do, i prefer to put them in a generic or original world than the world of another story.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
oh sure, law of large numbers and all that. the truly nasty hate, i just delete. generally i'd prefer to just ignore it, honestly, because i think deleting a comment is also a form of engagement with the hate that i don't necessarily want to give to the person who left it, but...
based on past experience, leaving the comment up and unanswered seems to invite other readers to engage with the hate in whatever way /they/ choose, and i really don't want to accidentally be the facilitator of a conflict :'D
9. Do you write smut?
nope, and i've learned to put that disclaimer in the notes of longfic i write 😅
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
ehhh not in this fandom (that i'm aware of), but i have had a translator go rogue - which is why i currently only allow translations of my fics to be posted on ao3 only.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
several times, + some podfics! outside of the odd occurrence mentioned above, they've all been wonderful opportunities. i have massive respect for everyone who spends time making fics more accessible to others!
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
no, and i feel like i'd be too picky to do so 😅 collabs in other ways - minibangs with artists, inspiration train games, etc - are all fun though, and i enjoy them!
13. What's your all-time favorite ship?
whichever version of bingqiu/binggeyuan ends up with lbh at his soggiest and most pathetic
14. What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
i have a post canon bingliushen fic that's been sitting in my WIPs for... over two years? i like the idea of it a lot and think parts of it would be very fun!
unfortunately, though, i like bingliushen because i like bingqiu and i like liushen and i think that sqq has two hands. this does not lend itself well to writing fic where bingliushen get together, since every time i try to work on this WIP the focus keeps turning to trying to get lbh and lqg to coexist well enough to allow bingliushen... and sadly i'm just not really into bingliu :')
15. What are your writing strengths?
i think i do humor and dialogue well enough! it always makes me happy to hear that my fic made someone laugh :>
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
although i think i'm alright at writing angst, i do think i have a tendency to resolve it too quickly/easily. i personally really do not enjoy fics where angst gets dragged on for awhile, and i know that this preference affects the pacing of my own angst in a way that perhaps puts me too far on the other side of the spectrum, lmao.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
i'm not sure what this is actually referring to, honestly 😅 i guess i use italics for that...?
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
attack on titan (please forgive me for my crimes)
19. What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?
although i do have that aforementioned WIP, i really do want to actually finish a bingliushen fic... maybe i just need to give up and write a sqq harem fic like the old fandom days 😂
20. What's your favorite fic you've written?
generally, whatever fic i wrote 2-3 fics ago 😂 i tend to be offput by my most recent work, so work that i've had some space from but is still recent enough to reflect my current preferences and skills is what i always consider my favorite. right now, either rent a bingge or the sy!shixiong au!
and that's all the questions! i won't tag anyone 'cuz i'm a bit shy about that sort of thing, so anyone who wants to do it can take this as your invitation to do so!

20 questions for fic writers!
Thank you @orange-peony @schmem14 and @teledild0nix for tagging me in this game! Sorry it took me eons.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
47. 46 under "Vukovich" and one that's anonymous.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
921,870
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Harry Potter.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Crane Lord of Gringotts Beauxtiful Boy "I'll Figure It Out" It'll Come Back Fearful Trill
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
No, as a general rule, I don't. I just feel like it's awkward to treat an AO3 comment as a conversation starter, I guess. Like, if someone wants to talk to me, my email address and Tumblr are in my AO3 bio. I do reply to AO3 comments if there's a question about the fic. Especially if the reader says their first language isn't English. I also will reply for the purpose of harassing friends.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Return to Sender and "I love you, (too/also)" are way up there in the angst department. For "I love you, (too/also)" I actually recorded a podfic of it, and I couldn't read the ending out loud without crying so I scrapped it. NO WAIT!!! I forgot about The Seven Weasley Horcruxes. Oh, Jeebus. Apologies in advance for that one.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Eagles in Truro, just for the sake of everyone getting to have their polyamorous cake and eat it too.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Yes. Just... yes. Big yes.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yeah, most of my fics are explicit. I'm not really sure what kind of smut I write. I feel like my smut is probably more graphic than some. More jizz dripping on the floor and errant pubes in teeth than what's fandom typical.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No, I can barely hold the HP universe in my head.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yeah, several of them. I think it's cool as hell. If it's a language I'm familiar with, I help with phrasings and subtext and stuff.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yeah. I have a WIP collection that people can leave unfinished fics in, and then I finish them. And I'd say when I collaborate with an artist, there's enough back and forth that it counts as co-writing. Oh! And there's a WIP with @oknowkiss and @mintawasalreadytaken I'll eventually get back to writing, I swear, you guys, for real, I will finish that shower piss scene.
14. What’s your all time favourite ship?
Joker/Harley Quinn, actually.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
OMG just one?! I have (briefly leaves to check Google Docs) about 100k in unfinished fics, plus outlines for about ten more. I think those are all going to get dumped as-is on AO3 in an anonymous collection, and I'm only going to finish the ones I'm actively posting (Seahorse, Glitch, 24k9).
16. What are your writing strengths?
Weird turns of phrase, I guess. Or at least that's what people tell me. I feel like I'm pretty good at not bogging down the pace with descriptions, but some people like to know the threadcount when they read smut. Honestly, I have way more strengths as an editor than as a writer.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Complete disregard for the em dash. If I were meant to use it, it would have a key on the standard QWERTY keyboard. I even bought an expensive-ass keyboard, programmed an em dash key for it, and still didn't use it. It wasn't meant to be. Who would like to buy a very fancy keyboard? I will also die on my double-spacing at the end of sentences hill. Going down with this typewriter skills ship. Maybe YOUR language evolves over time, but mine's stuck in 1987.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
That's one of my favorite puzzles. How comprehensible can I make the foreign language excerpt solely through the use of cognates and cues? Love it. 10/10.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
HP
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
My most masterful works of fiction are letters of recommendation. But this sonnet is fun.

Wait, there are people podficcing and making serious changing to the original fic? I'm more curious than surprised, honestly
Not podfics (that's the 'this might be too personal' angle). The whole "inspired by an AU I saw (but with the ship changed)" is a whole Thing that has happened before, and if it's based on a two-paragraph shitpost, that's one thing (e.g. that time an anon came to me about someone on AO3 seemingly taking my mpreg Vader AU and making it Shippy in a direction the posts went against, which might just be a coincidence and I said as much, since it was a short shitpost about an idea I'm sure is common and already existed), but if someone took an AU I'd put thousands of words into brainstorming and then tweaked it to be That Ship I Explicitly Said Wasn't A Thing In The AU...
In that case, I'd at least like a heads up, you know?
EDIT: I'm very tired so I didn't realize but a way better example than ships (which are usually pretty cut and dry and people would not cite me as inspo of doing a different one unless the AU is INCREDIBLY specific) would be someone writing something TECHNICALLY based on my posts and AUs, but adding an undertone of anti-Jedi or anti-Satine sentiment.

Hi, thanks so much for your dedication to perpetuating Johnlock in years to come! I've been a shadow member of the community on ao3 for years, but I have never ventured into writing any Johnlock fic, and tbh, not sure if I want to. BUT I am interested in both beta'ing and podfic'ing, and I just made this blog to get started. Any advice for beginners and breaking into the community on tumblr?
... love it!!! 💕
Such an amazing community, I really hope you will be at home here and find some great connections for both beta and fics to help bring to life!
I think it's exciting to see more people doing what they love and not necessarily what they think is expected in the fandom. Every kudos and hello means a ton to me! Do what you wanna! There is someone that would work great with you!
I'm super grateful for The Johnlock Podfic Club @johnlocky for encouraging and reaching out to others to join in the fun! And to @fluffbyday-smutbynight for reaching out to say 'HI!' when I went searching for a beta and found a friend (partner in crime)! And @ohlooktheresabee who gave amazing encouragement and great tips on starting up a podfic!! Think there is also a great post about making podfics on AO3? @podfixx creation? (will find and link)
As an author, it's a HUGE help to have someone to talk to and brainstorm on fics (and have them bonk you over the head when you keep writing It's instead of Its ... not ... ehem ... speaking from experience ...
I know how much effort goes into it personally. All I'm sayin'.
Also speaking personally ... I know podfics can take a lot of time and dedication. Nothing more exciting than getting permission to record a fic that you really love!! And getting to share it with more people to fall in love with (hopefully!) Haha
So in short (too late!) welcome, welcome and thrice WELCOME! (and tysm for the sweet words of encouragement!)
I am hopelessly Johnlocked! Join me!
Tumblr media
on second thought ... did i answer the question?!
Reach out to people. Say hi. Move on if someone is a dick. Don't be a dick. Idk much else to say besides, get connected. Be brave. We don't bite ... often (and honestly, that was before the rabies shot! So ... ). Links to some great peeps in JL community (i see it needs updating! will work on that this next week!)

Hi Reylo community!
Latest edit: First of all! —I am more than happy to help people who want to give podficcing a try, just send me a message and we can work out details, figure out answers to your questions, etc. I would just love to see more people recording podfics!
It’s easy to be a podficcer; nothing special is needed and I’m happy to provide tips for simple podficcing! In fact I sorta ramble about my process here in this Answered Ask and include 3 basic tutorials.
To the Reylo community at large (writers, artists, readers, lurkers, everyone!): If you could pick one of your, preferably, complete (or at least a fair number of chapters in and being updated) fanfics that you would like to have a podfic made out of... which would it be?
I’d love to create a list of works where authors have given permission to podfic their fics, whether short or long, and to contribute to the new Reylo Podfic Collection!
But I’d love to use this tumblr thread as a.... thought exercises, I suppose, and permission, too, for people to podfic your work.
While I do do podficcing for Marvel... it just makes me want to do so much more Reylo stuff! There’s so few pieces out there compared to the bevy of Marvel stuff, but honestly, every time there’s a new (Reylo) podfic—it breathes new life back into the fic, the author, the ship, the fandom..... plus you personally feel awesome for the performance high and for bringing a smile to the writer’s face. That’s the best thing ever and I adore doing it, no matter how ‘simple’ the podfic may be.
So, AUTHORS, which of your fics would you like to see podficced? Blanket permission for any?
And READERS!!!—which of your favourite fics, short or long, G or T or M or E... would you love to listen to, or think deserves the verbal treatment? :D
Old, new. Canon-Compliant, Modern AU. Canon-Adjacent or Post-Canon. Post-movie Fix-It or forget-the-movie Fix-It. Gen, Teen, Unrated, Mature, or Explicit. A/B/O or Soulmates. Bendemption or Renperor. Senator Ben or Jedi Ben. Fuck-Jakku Rey or Must-Return Rey. Hopeful Rey or Antagonistic Rey. Blocked Force Bond or Open. Good or evil. Take his hand or don’t. Pre-Canon, post-TFA, post-TLJ, or TroS—I don’t know her.
Come one, come any, come all! What would you pick to podfic?
Pod together with us!
I’ll keep the list of approved fics updated if we get enough replies! I do so hope we do! I love Reylo, you love Reylo, who doesn’t want their fic put to voice? And also, let’s breathe some new forms of life into this fandom! Celebrate it with me!
(Sometimes there are already podfics done for a particular fic but you can always 1, welcome another for your own fic, and 2, request of an author to see if you can perform an additional reading of their fic—each podfic is different and special in their own way.)
Do you feel how awesome this could be?
They do.

* “Please claim” even if just replying to this post or sending me an Ask or DM so I can edit the post. Mutiple podfics are flattering to the author but some podficcers really don’t like to be ‘one of many’. Absolutely valid. You can even create a placeholder AO3 ‘podfic’ and link it as inspired by said fic, so people can see that it’s being worked on... as long as permission has been granted first, or course, sillies! :)
** Although an unconventional fic format, this fic can certainly be podficced by using (1) different tones of voice for thoughts, fic summaries, different sorts of text, and/or (2) different tones of pings/chimes/whatever for the text messages from different characters, and/or (3) adding in an extra line of, for example: *ping* “text message from thekyloren reads as follows…” OR (4), if you want to get fancy, you could have some friends assist you by recording any of the messages from ‘their’ character. That would be a lot of fun, in fact! Another option is (5) where you would split your recordings and give an audible indication to read the message, followed again by a new audio file, etc. Only problem with this approach is if there are too many breaks in the audio and you end up going from one to the other too many times in a row.
💫
And please, reblog and spread the word for this project! No project can operate by its lonesome; it needs help from the community it belongs to. ❤️ Here’s another link to the Reylo Podfics Collection!
Thank you so much!

Hey! I read your Alex/Luke/Reggie fic "Happy Mistakes" and gah my HEART!! it was so sweet and I'm a sucker for fake/pretend fics😍 I noticed you didn't have any kind of permission statement (a statement on how you feel about people making transformative works from your works - podfics, fanart, translations, etc) on your ao3 profile, and wanted to ask your permission to do a podfic (its like audiobooks are for published novels, only for fanworks) of it. I'd be doing it on ao3 and use the 'inspired by' function when posting, so you would be properly credited.
I'm roseszain on ao3 as well (I've got a few podfics already posted there if you'd like to know what I sound like).
And please feel free to ask questions first or set conditions or refuse.
Thanks for the read, and have a great day/night!
Hi!! Thank you so much for asking this, I’d honestly forgotten I’d even written that fic ahaha so I’m really glad you found it and enjoyed it!
I’m more than happy for you to do a podfic of it☺️ of course as long as I’m properly credited (as you mentioned anyway) then that’s absolutely fine by me. I really appreciate you asking first too bc I know some people would’ve just gone ahead without permission, so thanks for that!
I’d be really grateful if you could mention somewhere (whether it’s just in the notes of the fic or whatever, however you want to do it) what my Tumblr username is since this is where I post the majority of my fics :)
Thanks!! Have a wonderful day☺️

Fic Writer Meme
Tagged by my dear @dancinbutterfly, and like, obviously I will take any excuse to talk about writing.
.
1) how many works do you have on ao3?
168, although a few of those are podfics that the podficcer credited me as a co-author on. Actually less than I would’ve expected, tbh.
2) what is your total ao3 word count?
1,431,989. Honestly also kinda less than I would’ve expected at this point. I will blame all those old fics I never brought over from LJ and ff.net for this expectation.
3) how many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
I literally cannot tell you, the ancient ways have been lost to me. I can give you my Ao3 fandoms, though!
Marvel Cinematic Universe
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Overwatch
The Witcher (Netflix)
Young Justice (Cartoon)
Animorphs
Star Wars
Good Omens
Venom
Fantastic Four
Leverage
League of Legends
Daredevil
Supernatural
Care Bears
World of Warcraft
Spider-Man
X-Men
Slender Man Mythos
Additionally, long ago: Naruto, Gundam Wing, Digimon, Ranma ½, Bleach, Inu-Yasha, and many scattered other fandoms of my youth. So, so many others. So I’ve written for 25+ fandoms, at least.
4) what are your top 5 fics by Kudos.
a mark, a mission, a brand, a scar (13004)
I once started out to walk around the world but ended up in Brooklyn (8450)
it’s a long way forward (so trust in me) (6965)
oh don’t you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me (6818)
if the bad times are coming let ‘em come (5362)
5) do you respond to comments?
Not really these days, though I hoard and treasure them like a freaking DRAGON. I used to respond to all of them but sometimes I’m just not around and then it becomes awkwardly late to reply and also they kinda . . . pile up a bit. I do try to answer all the comments with questions in them, at least, as long as the questions aren’t literally spoilers or anything like that.
6) what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don’t usually write super-angsty endings, I think? I don’t FEEL like I usually write super-angsty endings, anyway, at least not these days. I think I did it more often when I was more into, like, drabbles and shortfic. Now I just spend way too long on stuff to give it a downer ending.
The most recent angsty ending I can think of is wanna hold him, maybe I’ll just sing about it, though eventually I did write a sequel to that to soften the blow a bit. And also torment people a bit. Both, technically. Technically both.
7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
blondes really do have more fun, definitely. It’s very . . . giddy, I guess? What with the gender euphoria and all. There’s angst and heavy emotions in the actual plot but the highs of the happy parts/ending are probably the highest/happiest ones I’ve written, and Supergirl gets everything she wants without having to compromise or give up anything else.
8) do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve ever written?
I write fusion fic more than crossovers, really, but I have written a LOT of fusion fic. Some of it has been weirder than others, tbh, but probably the Avatar: The Last Airbender/Animorphs fusion that I have been lovingly slaving over deserves to be this answer if only for how much extremely sincere effort I have put into it over the years.
9) have you ever received hate on a fic?
Mild hate, but occasionally. I don’t really tend to remember negative comments, tbh, though it does sometimes make me not want to reread the comment section I know they’re in. But a lot of the hate I’ve gotten in the end just seemed like socially-awkward people being unnecessarily blunt instead of just hitting the back button, so I try not to take it personally. Can’t please everyone. Don’t WANT to please everyone, frankly.
10) Do you write smut? What kind?
Yes, and the kind is “a lot”. Sometimes I don’t really feel like it but definitely I have done a lot of it. I try for Feelings and also to be safe, sane, and consensual as much as I can.
11) have you ever had a fic stolen?
I . . . am not sure? Though probably, after being at this for all this time. Someone once told me that someone picked up a fic I’d (at the time) abandoned and just started writing/posting more of it without asking or telling me about it, but I never actually found said fic and I don’t know if that technically counts as “stealing” anyway.
12) have you ever had a fic translated?
A few times, yup, it’s pretty gratifying! I also like to run them back through Google Translate and see what they say, haha.
13) have you ever co-written a fic before?
yoooo @dancinbutterfly, @rainnecassidy! Also done it with a few other people long, LONG ago, but that was back in the LJ era. Don’t think I’ve technically collabed with anyone else lately, although sometimes people will give me ideas for stuff I’m writing or offer suggestions when I’m stuck on a thing, which is very helpful.
14) what’s your favourite ship?
Like . . . per fandom? ‘Cuz we could be here a while. Most recently it’s Jaskier/Geralt, for a while it was Aziraphale/Crowley, DEFINITELY for a while it was Steve/Bucky . . .
You know, I guess technically my all-time favorite ship is actually Naruto/Sasuke, because I made a LOT of friends in Naruto fandom and it actually hugely influenced the end of my teenage years and beginning of my adult life and so, SO much of my writing. So like, if nothing else it wins on influentialness.
15) what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
Let ‘Em Come. @rainnecassidy and I wrote that AU a long-ass time ago now and I never did my half of the sequel fic because I got too distracted with another longfic I was working on at the time and then took a real long fandom break. I always felt kind of bad about it because people seemed to bother her for said sequel more than they bothered ME for it, since her fic was the last posted part. Unfortunately I just don’t have the spoons or the MCU-focus for the research and effort it’d take anymore. Also, like . . . it’d probably be pretty long, so unless I was REAL obsessive about it it’d take a good long while.
Basically I think its time has just passed at this point, alas.
16) what are your writing strengths?
Sex, action, snark, and weird fusion fics. Also making people love things they usually hate, that’s one I get told a lot.
17) what are your writing weaknesses?
Fitting physical descriptions of . . . literally ANYTHING into the story. Just, anything. Physical descriptions are hard.
18) what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in fic?
I try not to do it, personally, because I know soooooo very little about other languages. Sometimes I’ll sprinkle in a little bit of it, but usually I feel like it’s better to avoid it, personally.
19) what was the first fandom you wrote for?
I literally could not even tell you. The first fandom I REMEMBER writing proper “fic” for was . . . Ranma ½, I think. I thiiiiink. But that was a long-ass time ago and I never even posted it anywhere because those were the days when I despised typing things up beyond all measure, hah. And before that I remember writing Animorphs . . . comics? Storyboards? Something like that. Kind of a cross between the two.
20) what’s your favourite fic you’ve ever written?
I do not know! There’s really just too many, tbh. Some top options are you found me when no one else was looking, best friends means you get what you deserve, clay kids, Avamorphs, handmaiden!Anakin, oh don’t you dare look back, just keep your eyes on me, and . . . and I could go on for a dang MINUTE, honestly, haha, I’m just gonna stop myself here before I get too carried away.
.
I tag whoever happens to be reading this that wants to be tagged; have fun with it!

Writing tag game -- tagged by @lessattitudemorealtitude
how many works do you have on Ao3?
Discounting podfic on which I’m listed as a co-author, 24.  My concept writing doesn’t go to AO3 and the vast majority of my Narnia fic was never cross-posted there.  (Or reposted there, actually, I think most of it pre-dates the AO3.)
what’s your total Ao3 word count?
1,050,810.  oh, huh, I didn’t actually realize I’d passed the one million word mark (probably with Crown).
what are your top 5 fics by kudos?
all of these ended up being Star Wars, which is not a huge surprise.  Morning will probably reach Dirt in the next couple of updates, I’d guess.
Immutable, or, Five Times Obi-Wan Kenobi Compromised His Jedi Ethics for Anakin Skywalker -- this is not the oldest Star Wars fic on there, but I think it’s the second oldest. people just really like 5 times fic.
Wake the Storm - did you know that when I started Wake I assumed it was a very niche trope in what was, at the time, a pretty dead fandom? the kudos count on Wake actually outnumbers Gambit by more than 1600 kudos, so the number of people who go from Wake to Gambit is a lot lower than you might think.
Queen's Gambit - a significantly lower kudos count than Wake or Immutable.  Gambit’s such a weirdo of a story, tbh, I can’t be surprised by anything about Gambit anymore.
On the Edge of the Devil's Backbone - about 600 kudos less than Gambit, so less difference between Gambit and Backbone than between Wake and Gambit.
Dirt in the Machine - another older fic.  I’d rewrite this one if I cared enough to do so, because it’s not at my current standards (Immutable isn’t either, for that matter) and I kind of wince every time I get comments on it.  this is the first one of the top five to have below 1K kudos.
do you respond to comments, why or why not?
I’ll usually respond to direct questions, but I very, very seldom respond to comments in general.  This is an old standing policy of mine that’s now more than a decade old -- it used to be I’d wait twenty-four hours before responding, then I’d respond right before the next chapter went up, and for a while I’d only respond to comments on the first few chapters of a story.  Now I just mostly do not.  The reasons for this are: (1) many, many years ago, I lost my temper pretty badly at a comment on a fic of mine (this was pre-AO3, this was back in my LJ days), and after that I moved to the “wait twenty-four hours” response so I didn’t say anything without thinking about it, (2) I do go back and reread comments but I hate rereading my own responses, (3) I prefer to know the comments numbers on my fic are all from actual comments and not from me saying “thanks for reading!”, (4) I can’t take that kind of responsibility for answering every single comment, man.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Of stuff I’ve written in the past ten years? (I can’t really remember before that.)  Maybe Backbone, because it ends on that pretty upbeat “yay team we’re going to be rebels now!” note.  or Devil’s in the Details (other side part 1), though I don’t really want to consider it a finished fic even though it’s technically finished; it has another “yay team we’re back together (minus Ezra)” ending.  I tend to end on complicated and reasonably open endings, not like...happy endings.
what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
probably Gambit for the “everything is super fucked up” factor and also the fact that I never wrote the sequel. plus it ended with the entire Wake trio split up in a whole new universe, plus back in the Gambitverse Amidala not able to go back to Naboo, Ahsoka shunned, Palpatine’s new empire, Rex trapped in the Gambitverse, etc.
do you write crossovers?
I did in my Narnia days. I don’t anymore. Working in widespread fandoms like Star Wars or the MCU is basically like writing crossover fic within the same universe, anyway.
have you ever received hate on a fic?
*hysterical laughter*
...yes. yes I have. it’s the reason every time I get a comment notification on Gambit or Wake I freeze in absolute terror. people HATE Wake and Gambit.  I hate to say never, but I will probably never write those characters or in that series again.
do you write smut? if so, what kind?
not really?  I’ve done relatively non-explicit sex but it’s not something I’m super comfortable writing, especially in recent years. I’m much more likely to do a fade to black.
have you ever had a fic stolen?
I think Gambit got scraped once when it was still in progress and my response was something along the lines of “good luck, bro,” given the whole “still in progress” thing.
have you ever had a fic translated?
I’ve gotten a couple of translation requests but I can’t recall if anything’s ever been translated.  (Or if I responded to them...I know a few I forgot to respond.)
have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, back in my Narnia days.  Some SW concept writing and that ended so badly that I’ll never co-write again.
what’s your all-time favourite ship?
Kanan/Hera, of course!
what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
gods, Dust in the Air, my Narnia Last Battle AU.  Back when I started it in 2008 or so I didn’t have the self-control or discipline I do now, even if I had a lot of the worldbuilding ability and the ability to conceive of if not execute long plot arcs, and I broke off more than I could chew.  If I ever went back to it I’d probably have to do a complete rewrite and it has the unique problem among my WIPs of being the last major fic I wrote in present tense -- I now write exclusively in past tense.  The bones of the story are good, I’d just have to go back to the bones and not just pick up where I left off.
what are your writing strengths?
Plot, worldbuilding/environment, action.  I also do genuinely think I’m very good at characterization too, but I think they’re all inter-related.  (Except the action, that’s me alone.  I love writing action and I generally get a lot of compliments on my action scenes.)  look, I know it’s conceited, but I’m good and I know I’m good, and I’m good in a pretty well-rounded way for the genre I write.
what are your writing weaknesses?
brevity. can’t do it.
honestly, there are others, but I don’t write stories where they’d come up.  I think I have a tendency to get to bogged down in dialogue in a way that I’ve never quite solved.  I also let my emotions take over too much and not in the good fannish way, in the “I’m having a fucked up relationship with canon or fandom and it’s affecting my ability to work” way.
what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
please stop having your Asgardians speak Latin for magic, man, that’s my feeling on it.
okay, my feelings on it for me -- I’ve sprinkled bits and pieces of Huttese, Twi’leki, and tee-tiny bits of other stuff here and there in fic.  I’d not be comfortable doing more than that because the only other language that I really feel comfortable doing anything significant in is Latin, and even then I’d hesitate. also, like, Latin! not a language that comes up in the fandoms I write in.  even then, like -- any extended dialogue should be intelligible to the audience, and I don’t expect my audience to be able read anything other than English; I’d rather just say “they switched to Twi’leki to say” or something similar.
what was the first fandom you wrote for?
like, online? Harry Potter. for things that I didn’t post online because I didn’t know what fic was yet? probably either The 10th Kingdom or The Mummy.
what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?
On the Edge of the Devil’s Backbone.  I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever written, I think it’s the most tightly plotted, I think it’s got the best worldbuilding, I think it’s remarkably consistent thematically, and it was, at the time, a fic that I was very devoted to finishing or dying trying, because I was going through it at the time and some of it was connected to the fic.
I don’t tag people, but please go for if you want!

A fun game to celebrate 2020 ending! The rules are simple: recommend your favorite OMGCP fics so everyone can enjoy them, while trying to fill in enough slots to get a bingo!
This is going to get long, so I’ll put it under a cut. Also, I’m too orderly to try to shoehorn my favorite fics into these particular prompts, so I’m just going to go right to left, top to bottom, taking the prompts literally, until it’s bedtime.
1. first fic you bookmarked: “Here Comes the Sun” by @doggernaut, 19k, G, no warnings, Zimbits
For the past month, the man with the baby and the sad blue eyes has been stopping in for a cup of coffee an hour before closing. He always sits in an overstuffed chair in the corner and drinks his coffee while his baby sleeps next to him in the stroller. Sometimes he pulls a book out from the diaper bag he carries with him; other times he just stares straight ahead as if in a daze. He never asks for a refill, always respectfully gathers his things and leaves ten minutes before the shop officially closes. Eric desperately wants to ask him what his story is.
My notes: I read Check Please over the course of two days in June of 2019. On the second day, right after catching up, I looked at @peppermintfeminist‘s AO3 bookmarks and found a fic by @doggernaut. Then I read just about everything @doggernaut had ever posted. It was glorious. This fic in particular is so cute.
2. most recent fic you bookmarked: “Flight Check” by @edgarallanrose, 15k, E, no warnings (though there is a creepy/handsy guy at a club to watch out for), primarily Zimbits with most of the other popular pairings in the background
Flight attendant Eric “Bitty” Bittle has been working his way up at Samwell Airlines for the past four years, and his new promotion has provided him the opportunity to work with a brand-new crew. Unfortunately for Bitty, that crew includes an incredibly handsome but equally grumpy pilot, Captain Jack Zimmermann, who seems to want nothing to do with Bitty. Even worse, Jack refuses to eat any of Bitty's baked goods. Will Bitty be able to win the captain over? Or is there another reason Jack has been avoiding Bitty?
My notes: There are a lot of great things about this fic--Jack’s character arc, Lardo’s dialogue, that scene in Seattle--but the reason I bookmarked it is the scene where Bitty’s basically slut-shaming himself and Jack gently but firmly tells Bitty not to do that and that it was the creep’s fault.
3. a fic that made you cry actual tears: “a little bit more” by @ivecarvedawoodenheart, 14k, T, no warnings, Holsom
“I just wanted,” he says, “a perfect day. With you. Because it’s our last day together and our last day being here as undergrads and we’re kissing the ice tonight, and the weather’s supposed to be beautiful, and you’re moving tomorrow and Holtzy I just — I don’t want to be missing you already.” Holster wipes his eyes before he even realizes he’s crying. Behind him, Ransom sighs. “One more day where everything’s the same,” he says, feeling around blindly for Rans’ fingers. He feels Rans nod as he laces their fingers together. “Yeah. Yeah, Rans. I’d like that a lot.” __________________________
Holsom after graduation and throughout the subsequent six months after Holster signs to an expansion team in Oregon, and realizes his feelings for Ransom too late. Holster's POV :) kinda angsty, but there's a happy ending :)
Inspired by shitty-check-please-aus: "Holster moves to Oregon while Ransom stays on the east coast. The time difference makes it difficult to talk and one day they wake up and realize they aren’t best bros anymore."
My notes: I almost never cry at fics. I searched “tears” in my fandom email account and only a handful of my fic comments came up, but Syd is a literal master of Holsom angst, always.
4. longest fic you’ve read: “Like Real People Do” by @xiaq, 153k, M, No Warnings, Kent Parson x OC
Parson gestures with his spoon toward Hawke. “So am I allowed to ask about the service dog or is that not PC?”
“My medical history is more of a 3rd date conversation," Eli says.
“Oh? Why’s that?”
“Because. No one sticks around afterward and I like to live in glorious denial for a short period beforehand.”
It comes out more self-deprecating than he intended.
Parson looks…thoughtful. “Well, does this count as one or two?
“Pardon?”
“This. Ice cream. I mean, technically it’s a second location, but still the same night. So is this one date or two?”
“One,” Eli says firmly. “If it’s happening within the same three-hour period.”
“You’re the expert,” Parson says, which, he’s really, really, not, but ok.
“So still two dates to go then?” Parson continues.
“I—what?”
“We’ve got a roadie coming up but then we’re home for almost two weeks. When does your semester start?”
“You want to do this again?” Eli asks.
Parson stops idly twirling his spoon.
“You don’t?”
He does, Eli realizes. He really does. Because apparently he actually likes Kent fucking Parson.
My notes: Okay, this fic has my whole entire heart. I’ve read it multiple times in its entirety, and it’s almost twice as long as the full-length novel I’m querying. Eli is one of my favorite OCs I’ve ever seen in a fic (probably tied with Damian Navarro and Ari Paxton, both brainchildren of @fozmeadows). Anyway, this is probably going to be the next thing @themeaningoflifeischeese and I read out loud to each other.
5. a fic you almost didn’t read: “when all else fails (i’ll still be right here)” by @whoacanada, 6k, T, Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings (and I don’t remember if I think there’s stuff to warn for, sorry), Zimbits
The National Hockey League is resurrecting the Quebec City Nordiques, and the expansion draft hits the Falconers much harder than expected.
My notes: Given that this was for @omgcpheartbreakfest, I was worried this would be all angst--all hurt and no comfort. Which made me sad, because I love @whoacanada‘s writing but I wasn’t up for reading unresolved angst. But @doggernaut reblogged the fic, so I asked if the ending was sad, and it’s NOT! There is quite a bit of angst but the ending isn’t sad.
6. a fic that convinced you on a ship you didn’t ship before: “it drops with the gravity of rain” by @geniusorinsanity, 16k, T, Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings (attempted sexual assault by an OC), Nurseydex
It happens like this:
“I don’t--this is a bad idea,” Dex says, his lips still tingling, his hands shaking on Nursey’s hips where he’s shoved him away. “This is a really bad idea, Nurse. I can’t--We can’t do this.”
And there’s hurt in Nursey’s eyes and his bottom lip is swollen from Dex’s teeth, but he says, “Okay.” And then, “It’s chill, Dex. Just friends, then.”
It happens like this:
“Actually,” Nursey says, talking more to his granola than to them, “I kind of have a date.”
It happens like this:
When Nursey calls, Dex almost doesn’t pick up the phone.
My notes: So I was really confused and a little disturbed when I first found out people shipped Nursey and Dex. Like, Dex just wasn’t someone I trusted. But then I was moving out of the house I’d been living in, and I needed stuff to listen to as I packed and cleaned, and @khashanakalashtar‘s podfics came in clutch. I gave this one a try even though I didn’t like Dex, and @geniusorinsanity blew. My. Mind.
7. a fic from an unusual POV: “Excuse Me While I Kiss This Guy” by @porcupine-girl, 8k, G, no warnings, Zimbits
Jesse Snowden knows all the best restaurants and gourmet food shops in Providence, so when Jack Zimmermann starts bringing in incredible baked goods, he's eager to find out where the new bakery is. When he meets the man behind the pies, he decides that there's no way Jack could really appreciate this guy's talent the way he does, even if they are friends. He starts hiring Jack's chef on the side, in the hopes that maybe once Bitty's done with college he'll come work for Jesse.
Good thing there is absolutely no way whatsoever that Jesse could possibly be misinterpreting this situation.
My notes: Oh my gosh this is so funny. The secondhand embarrassment factor is huge, but like, the hilarity.
8. a comfort fic: “Don’t Need to Compromise” by @khashanakalashtar, 11k, E, no warnings, PB&J
“Hey,” said Kent, unknowingly setting off a chain of events that would change his entire life, “you said that like you know from experience. Have you done this before?”
Jack and Bitty have not done polyamory before, but they do know Ransom and Holster’s polycule, which contains March.
And March?
March is trans.
My notes: I’m in love with @khashanakalashtar‘s entire Directionverse series (and honestly a lot of their other writing), but “Don’t Need to Compromise,” which is the second fic in the series, just makes my heart swell especially much. The gender feels are so good, and all the characters are so good to each other, and when I listen to this on walks I have to actively try not to arm-flap.
9. a fic you wish could be a movie: “Ice Crew Please!” by @petals42, 61k, T, no warnings, Zimbits
Jack Zimmermann was drafted first by the Providence Falconers when he was eighteen years old. He is good at hockey. Very good. His team won the Cup his second year and now, in his third year, they are looking good. Jack should be on top of the world. And some days, he manages to convince himself he is.
He’s not, of course.
Enter the Ice Crew.
AKA: The Ice Crew AU
My notes: This fic has its tender moments, but what I love most about it is the sheer goofiness. Ransom and Holster and Shitty are HILARIOUS in this one. I’d love to see their shenanigans in movie form.
10. a WIP you read as it was updated: “Something Borrowed” by @fozmeadows, 48k, M, no warnings, Kent x OC
All things considered, Ari did his best to prepare himself for the advent of Kent Parson, Potentially Difficult Housemate and New Star Liney. The problem was that his best was an idiot.
My notes: So technically I didn’t start reading this until the first 19 chapters were posted. But there was still plenty of anticipation for the final few chapters. And like, @fozmeadows (as mentioned above) makes EXCELLENT OCs. And I love how their fics consistently convey that having bad things happen to you does not mark the end of your story.
Okay, it’s bedtime, so have 10 excellent fics. I got bingo twice, because I went straight across on the top two rows.

It may be February but... why not haha.
Below the cut, organized in chronological order, are the fics I wrote in 2020! All put into one place :D. Thank you to everyone who read, kudos’d, commented, beta’d, and supported my writing. It was my first ever year writing fanfiction, and I am so thankful for all the friends I’ve made because of it.
<3 <3
If Not For You
Word count: 92,461 Chapters: 36 Rating: M
Summary:
Simon was born and raised in the midwest, and he thinks he has his life figured out. He has a girlfriend that he feels happy with, is excited to drive for his junior year, and can't wait to get away from his father when he goes away for school.
However, this all changes when his mom dies and he is carted to the east coast to start at a boarding school. Simon then has to deal with having a roommate (who hates him), living with his mother's death, and wanting to be anywhere but where he is.
To add to it all, one day he gets a strange phone call, and he wonders if his mother's death was really an accident at all.
author’s note:
This was my first like actual fic. And my first try at writing something. This fic will always have a special place in my heart because it helped lead me to all the amazing people I now call friends <3
Not only that but it was a bit of therapy for me. (Self insert? In MY fanfiction? More likely than you’d think!)
Anyway, whenever someone comments, leaves kudos, or otherwise acknowledge that the fic exists I get emotional haha. I also have like three playlists for it too haha.
The Heist
Word Count:7456 Rating:T
Summary:
It's the fourth year of the Halloween heist, and Baz is determined to win. He thinks he has it all planned, that he knows Simon Snow through and through.
Despite this, somehow Simon still manages to surprise him.
author’s note:
b99 AU bahaha. Need I say more??
Pay Your Fines, Snow
Word Count: 1524 Rating: T
Summary:
Baz Pitch works at the local library every summer. He's annoyed at kids who run around, people who don't follow directions, and Simon Snow- who can't pay a fine on time.
author’s note
This fic was the first of the fics that sparked all my crazy prompts haha. It was so much fun to do!
There is a wonderful podfic of this made by the amazing and beautiful @xivz, and it also has art now by @peachpit-gabe!! Go check it out here.
A Rebirth
Word Count: 3374 Rating: T
Summary:
Simon and Baz need to finish their presentation for their Art History class. However, Baz also got pulled into watching his younger siblings for the weekend.
Frozen 2, chicken nuggets, sword fights, and themes of Renaissance.
author’s note
I wrote this for the amazing @krisrix as a prompt! It was so much fun to do and I legit wrote the whole thing in like one afternoon and had it looked over and posted it haha. I still feel bad because Kris legit asked for babies and I kicked the babies out at the beginning of the fic LOL.
Coming Together in Three Parts
Word Count: 4639 Rating: M Chapters: 3
Summary:
Three snippets of their lives after Wayward Son.
author’s note:
The summary definitely leaves a lot to be imagined haha. But I decided to pull a @ninemagicks and give a metaphor of threes and I love yous. So it’s three lovely stages after Wayward Son. There’s the I Love You, the moving in, and then a marriage proposal. I was fairly proud of this! And I did this as an exchange fic as well.
The Three Acts of a Wizard
Word Count: 6439 Rating: T
Summary:
Today, Baz is giving Simon a reprieve (or, that's what he is telling Simon.)
Cue a removal of cursed body parts, a grumpy fireplace who *knows* what is happening, and a shrill frizzy-haired friend threatening to poison some scones.
(this is a remix fic for @ninemagicks HMC AU YWSAFS
author’s note:
I wrote this for Nena’s birthday in the summer! Their friendship has meant the world to me, and this story is what I think gave me the gall courage to message them and harass them with 2k word comments/metas haha. If you’ve not read their fic, make sure to do so!
Heaven is a Place on Earth
Word Count: 12,711 Rating: M Chapters: 5 Summary:
Five hours each week. That's all Simon and Baz get.
But we know that's all they need to fall in love...
~~
A San Junipero AU
author’s note:
This fic idea came to me randomly and I literally wrote it in a week. I love it so much, and despite being MCD I think it’s still generally happy (I mean.. they do end up together??) Idk, it has a special place in my heart. And I made @krisrix read Baz with an american accent so... win win haha.
(Un)Sexy Saturday
Word Count: 6157 Rating: M/E Chapters: 9 (they’re different stories each chapter.)
Summary:
Summaries vary by chapter. Overall it’s just a collection of silly stories where sex gets interrupted.
author’s note:
Honestly this series was so fun to do. I need to continue it sometime! From beauty blender butt plugs, to swingers, to garlic allergies... it just makes me laugh haha.
5 Times Simon Wanted a Fistbump, and the 1 Time He Finally Got It
Word Count: 5489 Rating: T Chapters: 6
Summary:

So now, seeing Shepard, he's got a chance at a friend. A bro of sorts.
Simon sees the final hurdle in their friendship to be a fist bump. A simple signal of their friendship.
But how long is it going to take to get it??
~~
5 + 1 Yearning for a Fist Bump.
author’s note:
Simpard. Friendship. And art by @nick-eyre?? Perfection.
A Goblin’s Skull, Maccies, and a Door Handle
Word Count: 2017 Rating: T
Summary:
Simon Snow wakes up in a building he doesn't know, tied up and blindfolded.
Luckily his best bro Shepard is there too.
author’s note:
Wrote this as a little bday treat for @nick-eyre :D. Decided to give Simon a friend who would also lust after goblins with him haha.
One Word, Four Letters, A Lifetime's Worth of Pain: IKEA
Word Count: 2428 Rating: T
Summary:
Baz comes home and notices the house is suspiciously quiet.
When he finds Simon, surrounded by unfinished pieces of furniture, he can't help but ask... why?
Author’s note:
This was written as a birthday gift for @foolofabookwyrm! She is an absolute gem and has never been to IKEA, but now I hope she understands the struggle of building IKEA furniture haha.
The Beat of My Heart
Word Count: 2230 Rating: T
Summary:
Simon is kneeling on the ground, waiting for Baz to come home.
He has a question. One he's wanted to ask for a while.

But when a girl who is growing into her powers reads something she shouldn't, they get into a predicament they don't expect.
author’s note:
This was a COE gift for @krisrix! Body Swap! Parents! Married! I tried to do it all for him haha. 2020 was really the year where I was like yeah, let’s write Kris a million fics. And honestly—wouldn’t have it any other way.
Imposter vs Crewmates
Word Count: 754 Rating: T

Word Count: 1417 Rating: T
Summary:
Simon Snow realized recently that he has a crush on Baz.
Penny suggested he find reasons to spend more time with him, so he suggests a study session for their ethics exam the following day.
(It doesn't go as planned, but the result is very much worth it.)
author’s note:
Birthday gift for @peachpit-gabe <3 <3. Just a cute one shot with snowbaz.
Pumpkin, Let’s Make a Patch
Word Count: 2516 Rating: T
Summary:
Simon Snow is trying to create a neighborhood pumpkin patch.
Baz, unknowingly, rips the pumpkins out of his front lawn.
(How will he make it up to him?)
author’s note:
This was done for the COC. I based it off this cute tiktok series with this kid who rode around on his skateboard and plants pumpkins around his neighborhood.
Weathering the Storm
Word Count: 2248 Rating: T
Summary:
Shepard was nine when he first met a boy he'd learn was Simon Snow.
He was in a ditch crying, and Shepard wasn't sure what to make of him.
This boy lived in his mind until he saw him again years later.
And today, when there's a storm unlike any other in London, he knows who must be at the center of it.
author’s note:
Honestly. This is probably one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. IDK. It’s so short but... I love it. And if you like to listen to fics— @bloodiedpixie did a phenomenal podfic of it! And @nick-eyre did AMAZING art for it too <3.
New Beginnings
Word Count: 2090 Rating: T
Summary:
It's the first New Years Eve after the Christmas that changed everything.
After Simon Snow and Baz kissed.
After they defeated the humdrum.
After the Mage's death.
But, as many of us do, it's time to take the New Year as an opportunity to begin anew.
author’s note:
Part of a server exchange I did for @knitbelove :D.
And, all of the prompts I’ve yet to put on ao3... lolol

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Edit because I'm a dumbass and forgot: tagged by @myargalargan thank you friend😂😅
How many works do you have on AO3?
42. (28 of them are ATLA; my next biggest fandom is Destiny with 7).
What's your total AO3 word count?
92,992. I don't write very fast. Or long fics for the most part. And I struggle with multichapters. So. Yeah. (It'll probably be going up by about 5,000-6,000 in the next week or so, though).
How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?
I have written for a total of 11 fandoms: Avatar: The Last Airbender, Avatar: The Legend of Korra, The Dragon Prince, Halo, Skyrim, Dragon Age, Star Wars, Destiny, Tron, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Mass Effect. None of my Skyrim or Halo works are on AO3, though.
What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
to that loyal heart you're forever sixteen (Chit Sang & Zuko, 805 kudos)
Twin Flames (Azula & Izumi, 501 kudos)
those stories written in your skin (Zuko and his tattoos, 311 kudos)
Lonely (Azula & Zuko, 193 kudos)
Drifting Up the Cliffs with the Rising Stars (Maiko, 156 kudos)
I'm...not entirely sure how to feel about this, honestly. Four of these fics are not my best writing; 'those stories', especially, is...probably one of my weaker ATLA fics. 'Drifting' isn't bad, but it's not as good as my other Maiko fics. 'Twin Flames' though I'm really proud of; it's my first ATLA fic, and one of my personal favorite, so I'm happy to see it up there. And even if it isn't so well written, I love the idea in 'to that loyal heart'. So, overall, I think I like it? But I question the choices because I know I've done much better.
Do you respond to comments, why or why not?
Every single one. I like talking to people, what can I say?
What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?
'Hey, Pretty Boy' had a pretty sad ending - it's a Modern AU retelling of the story of Yue and Sokka, so. Yeah. 'The Abyss' (about PTSD at the end of a major battle in Destiny's backstory) and 'the sun shall set for you' (a Taangst week fic about suicide) are also definitely up there.
What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?
I've actually got a lot of happy ending fics. If I had to pick one with the happiest...probably 'Waiting to be Seen', a post-war Smellershot fic. It's just good and honest fluff, and it gives Smellerbee and Longshot the happiness they so much deserve after having their childhoods ripped away.
Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?
Never written a crossover, never really felt the desire.
Have you ever received hate on a fic?
I got told I should kill myself because of a fic I published on FFN, back when I still had one of those. But I think that's the only one, surprisingly, even though I've written about a fair number of controversial topics.
Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Never.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I'd die probably die and need Jesus to resurrect me so I could thank the translator because that would be amazing. I would be beyond overjoyed if someone were to make a translation or a podfic or what have you.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope.
What's your all-time favorite ship?
Smellershot or Janaya, probably.
What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?
...this is a list that is ever growing, and is very, very long, already - too long for me to really list here.
What are your writing strengths?
I think probably character's internal thoughts and emotions. As well as angsty sucker-punches. Apparently I'm pretty good at those.
What are your writing weaknesses?
Plot. Every single time. Keeping a consistent plot. I'm a bit rusty on action scenes, nowadays, too; used to be alright, not so much anymore. Also, I feel like I'm not that good at keeping consistent characterizations across multiple chapters, for some reason. Like I just want to rush character development, even though I shouldn't.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
As long as it's accurate, then...yeah, go for it. I do it every now and again, but usually just a couple words at a time because I just don't know the languages.
What was the first fandom you wrote for?
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. That fic is dead and burnt, the ashes scattered and hopefully overwritten on the hard drive of the computer I used (which I'm not sure if it exists anymore, actually).
What's your favorite fic you've written?
It's either Brave Soldier Girl or Burn on the Pyre. Both are pretty ambitious fics, and I think that they both have some of my best writing about some of my favorite characters.
Tagging:
Anyone who wants to because I really need to go to bed right now, so anyone on my list of usual suspects can consider themselves tagged, as can anyone else who wants to answer the questions!

So I've been tracking my AO3 stats over the past year, and I figure now is a great time to take a look back at the year and see what I have to show for it!
Posting here because I want to talk about it and document it somewhere, but putting it under a cut so you can happily scroll past if you don't care :)
I also made a summary post for 2020 at the beginning of the year, if you'd like to take a look.
First of all, I just want to take a look at what AO3 gives me. I don't have to do everything myself, at least lol
Tumblr media
So these are the summaries for (from left to right) 2020 (the year I started writing), 2021, and All Years. I know this isn't entirely accurate right off the bat because I definitely didn't have 40 user subscriptions in 2020. But I'm guessing that's just not meant to update according to the year. The kudos, comment threads, etc feel believable (although I have a feeling that may be associated with most recently updated dates of fics, in which case everything from IWOAK in 2020 is counting toward this year and not last year, but anyway). Regardless, I'm quite proud of all of these numbers! A lot of hard work goes into earning these, and while I know that the worth of my writing isn't necessarily correlated to the stats, it's still nice encouragement.
Now let's look at some progress! Going to preface this with yes, I know the charts are small and kind of hard to read. Especially the first few that summarize the overall stats, since I had to put them in the same image because of image limits per post. I am sorry. Honestly I just don't want to spend the time on this that it would take to make it look extra nice. The x axis is always the count, and the y axis is always the date, starting on January 1st 2021 and the data included ends today (December 22nd 2021). Dots in the graphs are individual data points, and the lines are just linear trend lines that in some cases don't make sense (like in word count for multichaptered fics that have been completed) but they're there anyway because I am lazy and didn't want to remove them.
Tumblr media
So these are total hits, word count, and user subscriptions over time from January 2021 to now. That big drop in the number of hits is because I have co-written a series of oneshots that we decided to combine into one single fic instead rather than leaving as oneshots (and a corresponding series of podfics), and the hits took a pretty big hit because there were like 25 oneshots... not counting the podfic versions. So yeah. That's that explained. Luckily I recovered though!
Word count and user subscriptions have been levelling off a bit recently just because I've been struggling with motivation so I haven't been posting much lately. I am kind of surprised to see that that's not as evident in my number of hits though!
Tumblr media
Here we have similar charts for overall kudos, comment threads (not individual comments, so this is just for parent-level comments), bookmarks, and subscriptions (to fics, not to me as an author). HUGE drop in kudos for the reason explained above, and a bit of a drop in bookmarks. Pretty big drop in comment threads but it bounced back up almost immediately and... I don't really remember why that is if I'm being honest. My go-to explanation is IWOAK but it seems too fast to be just that. And then that drop in subscription numbers that comes a bit later is because I finished IWOAK so people unsubscribed. It does still has 228 subscriptions though! I figure if I ever get around to writing that one-shot I'd like to write in the verse, I'll update the original fic with an announcement so all those people will know, since I don't have a series set up for it yet.
Now to take a look at some fic-specific stats! I'm just going to show the top 5 for each category as of today, because otherwise the charts are just so crowded that you can't actually read anything from them. But if someone for some reason wants to see any charts specific to a fic not shown, just let me know I guess? Not sure why you'd want that but anyway.
Tumblr media
Hits! Unsurprisingly, IWOAK is on top here (as it is in every single other chart so I'm not going to bother pointing it out every time. All but one of these was started (and some most were completed) in 2020 so I guess it makes sense that they have the most hits. Special mention though to Echoes of You which I started this year and is in 6th place! Just missed being included in the chart, but it's sitting at a pretty healthy 1283 hits at the moment.
Tumblr media
Kudos! Now seems like a nice time to point out that my vampire smut made it into my top 5 by hits and kudos. Also worth mentioning I am absolutely shocked that my Puckurt fic made it into this list! I published that over halfway through the year and it's a ship that doesn't seem to have as much popularity on Tumblr at least, so the fact that it's on this list? I'm impressed and intrigued. Everything else is Kurtbastian which doesn't surprise me, because they always do better than my Klaine fics.
Tumblr media
Comment threads! I'm shocked yet again, this time that one of my podfics is in here?? Not only that, but the podfic is here and the original fic is not here. Flabbergasted. Everything here is of course a multichaptered fic, and we have the Halloween collab in there too which I still haven't read all of whoops.
Tumblr media
Word count! Same list as the last chart except the written version of the Kurtbastian 2020 Advent Calendar rather than the podfic version. And you can see that jump I talked about earlier where we moved all the individual oneshots in the series to one fic. But yeah, this is just as expected. It's nice to see that steady increase in the IWOAK word count though. :)
Tumblr media
Bookmarks! Honestly I'm shocked that THOL1 is here, but there it is. For Your Entertainment and I Want The World To See You'll Be With Me, surprise me as well, but not quite as much. I love that IWOAK is still getting new bookmarks, although at a slower pace now that it's not updating anymore of course.
Tumblr media
Subscriptions! LOL @ the drop in IWOAK right after I finished posting. This isn't surprising, they're all chaptered fics and I don't have all that many of those. Love seeing Echoes of You up there though!
Anyway, I think I'll wrap things up now. This was really cool for me to look back on, and if you've gotten through this whole thing, thanks for taking a look and I hope it was interesting for you as well! And if you've read any of my fics, thank you for taking the time to do so! :)

AO3 Tag Game
1. How many works do you have on ao3? 235 total between two pseuds (writing & podfic)
2. What's your current AO3 wordcount? 475k
3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? WRITING is an easier question to answer; I panicked at first thinking I was gonna have to include podfic. Okay, so:
Marvel
All for the Game - Nora Sakavic
Venom (Movie)
Supernatural
The Old Guard
Knives Out
Green Street Hooligans
Red, White, & Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston
Firefly (TV)
Fablehaven series - Brandon Mull
The Tarot Sequence - KD Edwards
Green Creek series - TJ Klune
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
It’s Only Weird If You Make It Weird - Venom ot4 PWP
to build a home - Venom ot4 getting together WIP
this is the world as I see it now - Venom/Eddie/Dan
our little vignette - RWRB fluff
when I watch the world burn (all I think about is you) - Ameriwinterhawk soulmates au
5. Do you respond to comments? YES. It’s just fun for me. I really like when people leave comments, and I want to let them know I appreciated it.
6. What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending? I think my angstiest ending was this hopeful but not explicitly happy winterhawk one: i’ve been quiet for too long
7. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've ever written? Not often but @claraxbarton and I came up with a SPN/Knives Out crossover universe & ship that we’re a little wild over, and I do write in that universe
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? I don’t think I’ve had outright hate. I’ve feared it, but it’s never been a thing or if it is I’ve already forgotten it. I’ve had comments that made me feel bad about myself, but nothing aggressive to my memory.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I used to not, but then I wrote 44k of it in three week (that’s the kind of love (i’ve been dreaming of) ) and now writing smut is kind of ?? relaxing for me
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! I did a round robin a while back with some winterhawk writers, and I’m almost done co-writing a fic with @hawksonfire
12. What's your all time favorite ship? Winterhawk for LIFE
13. What was the first fandom you wrote for? uHHHHH fuck this is hard but I’m PRETTY sure it was the fablehaven fic I wrote? I even moved it to ao3 (from ffn) when I made my ao3 forever ago.
14. What's your favorite fic you've written? I have to second Lucas ( @trashkingtater ) who tagged me and say my Winterhawk Olympic Bang fic, even though it’s not done or posted. I honestly love it so so much.
