as a tme person, I really appreciate trans stories where the person is just like, "honestly I never really thought about being trans until I did" because the extremely medicalised narrative of Knowing™ from childhood is simply not true, realistic or even accessible for every trans person. personally, I was too busy listening to destiny's child and beating my brother's ass at yugioh cards to consider my gender or sexuality when I was a child. which is not to say that I think trans people's stories who knew from when they were young aren't important to me, they are. they just don't resonate with me in the same way as "late bloomer" ones do. It's not that I was totally miserable being a "girl" because I wasn't. I just realised when I was older and had the time to learn and think that there were ways to be happier.

i’ve been lucky enough to not have too many situations like this, but here’s my advice nonetheless!

i’m a sensitive person so as much as i wish i could just say oh don’t let it get to you!! i can’t because it does affect me tehe. honestly the best advice i have is to try and reframe your mindset of it. at the end of the day, you’re providing free silly content for fun, not asking to be scrutinized. mean anons/rude commenters are just bored and miserable. so i can laugh it off and then shift my view to feel sorry for them tbh, bc it must suck to be so miserable that you’re mean to people on tumblr dot com

in general it’s also nice to have some sweet mutuals and other writers to support you! they’ll make you feel a lot better and hype you up when you’re sad <3 if i’m ever feeling discouraged i also just reread comments and if helps a ton! even if an anon hated my work and thinks i’m stupid, at least user1001 thought my writing was good enough to share :)

Ok so!

short answer is this:

The way I would imagine the octopus part and the mongoose part "talk" would be largely through the head. The mantle is literally fused on there (the eyes on the mongoose part of the diagram is just silly, he does not have eyes under there, but he does have those ears, they peek out the back if u look from behind).

Since the octopus part is literally also the mongoose, all that extra space where the digestive organs and reproductive organs are on an octopus kinda moot, so the respiratory system is partly up there too baby. It basically follows how octopus circulation and respiration works, but there is also a lung up there. The vasculature connects down to the main body via giant ass arteries and veins and supplements the heart and lungs down there. The "brain" is really just neural function as it relates to the octopus part and connection to the chunk of brain lobotos got left lol.

On the other hand of the "this is just one guy wearing another guy" design spectrum is Gisu. The skate part is purely just another part of her body, there's no like. brain in there.

Its just as much her as her arm is her, you ain't taking that thing offa there.

There isn't an evolutionary advantage because they can't reproduce to create better, more survivable genes. They simply pop into existence as a physical form that Light Matter takes so they have looked the same for as long as their species has been around.

Cuteness isn't a weakness or a disadvantage though, it's just an insecurity that Meta Knight has. He believes that he won't be respected anymore if people know he has a cute little face, as his whole brand is being cool, mysterious and intimidating. It's just a him thing and not really an everyone thing.

Most Star Warriors aren't ashamed of their faces, and Meta only developed this insecurity when he went to Popstar and found himself a crew.

today for disability pride month, i’d like to discuss something not many able-bodied people know about: ambulatory wheelchair users!

first, “what is an ambulatory wheelchair user?”

it’s a term used to describe people who use wheelchairs that can stand and or walk in some capacity. the amount a person can walk can vary greatly between ambulatory wheelchair users, some may need their wheelchair 60% of the time, some may need theirs 90% of the time.

“why would someone use a wheelchair if they can walk?”

there are tons of reasons someone who can walk might use a wheelchair, such as fatigue, balance, heart problems, pain, fainting, and many, many more. it could be dangerous for them to walk.

“isn’t that being lazy?”

nope! take shoes, for example. you *could* walk without them, but it would be painful, and could give you cuts or blisters. would you consider wearing shoes to be lazy? also, many disabilities and conditions are progressive, using a wheelchair can help slow progression and damage to your body.

so next time you see a wheelchair user move their leg, remember that ambulatory wheelchair users exist!

There's something so funny, and sad, about Touya, whose thoughts and feelings about things have often been a mystery since we barely ever get his POV and who had done so well at maintaining a pretty stoic, uncaring mask around others that some fans to this day argue about whether or not he actually cared about the League (he does, it's just in his own way and he's in denial) or meant for Twice to die (he didn't), being betrayed by his own fucking heart monitor.

He was keeping up that persona so well, talking shit to Endeavor and not really responding to much, but the second his dad says he wants to continue seeing and talking to him every day, his heart beats faster.

And it happens again when Fuyumi and Rei say they want to do the same thing.

He might stay quiet about his actual feelings about everything for the most part, but he can't keep his heart monitor from going off. And he does eventually open up to Shoto and apologize.

I need 10 more full chapters of just the Todoroki's communicating with Touya, or an entire spinoff, just so they all can have some closure and bond, and Touya can defy the odds yet again and survive.

i think one of the things the pjo show has understood the best so far is specifically the isolation and insecurities that come with being neurodivergent, and how it reflects onto percy. the book touches on it a lot, but i think rick really wanted to push percy's own internal struggles more obviously to the forefront for the show.

Percy references again and again how inattentive and zoned out he is constantly, and how he blames himself for being stuck in his own world. He feels crazy and misjudged by everyone around him just for having what everyone else presumes is a very active imagination, hyperactivity, and a brain that works differently. and when people do acknowledge his differences, even attempting to spin them positively to him, like Sally and "Mr. Brunner," it only makes him feel worse, because again the only thing they can tell him is that he's "special," inherently other, something he's come to associate with being an embarrassing and shameful thing, with Nancy calling him "special" as an insult. I've seen "special" thrown at nd kids as an insult by their peers over and over again since I was little. So Percy can't help but believe it's a negative thing, no matter what the adults that do support him in his life try to tell him, because it's been internalized that he's just different in a way that's bad and inferior, and that that there's a reason he's lonely and troubled and delinquent. Even if it was a positive thing, like Sally and "Mr. Brunner" insist to him, he feels inherently isolated and confused and wrong in the mortal world for being different, and like there's nothing that can change that or make him normal.

We see Percy break down in front of Sally after being expelled about how he's terrified something's irrevocably wrong inside him now. And his immediate reaction of rage and confusion when the only thing she can tell him, once again, is that he's special. And I think that is really going to resonate with a generation of nd people who've experienced these types of scenarios.
