Hetalia is coming back, and I have some thoughts...

Alrighty everyone, here we go! As if 2020 couldn’t get more insane...

(This is a longer post, so I’ll add fun gifs to separate the walls of text so it isn’t so exhausting to read).

So, if you’ve been on the internet since the early 2010′s, you’ve most likely seen, or at least heard, of an odd show called Hetalia. This anime, with the manga originally created by Hidekaz Himaruya, was later adapted into an anime. For those who are either new to the internet or have been living under a rock for the last decade, Hetalia, first going under the name Hetalia: Axis Powers, is a show about different events in world history and world politics, all being portrayed by people who represent different countries. Each country - or character, you could say - is essentially the embodiment of all their respective country’s stereotypes. 

For example, Germany is extremely strict, loud, militaristic, and often angry or stubborn. Italy is an absolute coward who is obsessed with pasta and beautiful women. And America is an over-the-top, loud, bombastic, arrogant dork who is constantly downing fast food and calling himself a “hero.” The list goes on and on, but you get the idea. 

Hetalia was, and still is, an extremely weird show. And with season seven on the horizon, coming to us in Spring 2021, I feel like I ought to talk about it. And why am I taking the time to talk about it?

Because I am a veteran Hetalian.

You read that right. Throughout all of middle school and the first few months of high school (almost four years), I was an absolute obsessive Hetalia fangirl. Outside of the internet, I was the biggest fan I knew, along with the guy who was my best friend at the time. We’d binge watch the show, read and write fanfiction, bring others into the cult fandom, talk about it almost constantly, draw fanart, watch the funny mmd video compilations on YouTube, delve really deep into world history, quote and reenact all of our favorite scenes - we even cosplayed England and Prussia one year for Halloween! This was the show that made me the HUGE history nerd I am today! I even got a book on the complete history of Prussia one year for Christmas.

Yep. We were those kind of fans. (Not gonna lie, as a now twenty-year-old woman, I still kinda cringe looking back at my middle school years. But I was having fun, so who cares?)

So when I heard we were getting another season after a five year hiatus, you’d think I’d be super stoked that a show I was once madly in love with was coming back from the dead, right?

Well... It’s a little complicated. I won’t lie that I am really excited for this new season, and I’m of course gonna watch the entire series over again in preparation for it. But I have some hopes, worries, and mixed emotions about everything happening, and everything that may or may not go down when the season eventually airs, including the time leading up to it. I even have a particular topic I want to get to, but you’ll see that later in the post.

To address my worries, we first have to go way back to the early days of the fandom. For the most part, the Hetalia fandom was just really weird, fun, nerdy, and quirky. Nothing wrong with that. I feel like the fandom already had an odd reputation, but at least it wasn’t a bad one. That is until we had some... How should I say... Toxic behaviors and incidents start to take place. 

Allow me to explain. How I see it, every fandom has some kind of toxicity level. The toxicity level is from the fans who are, well, toxic. We all know who they are, and you’ve likely met at least a few here and there. And the toxicity levels vary from fandom to fandom. In some it’s very low, and in others it’s very high. I wouldn’t say the Hetalia fandom’s toxicity level was super high, but it wasn’t incredibly low either. We had the usual problems, like some intense shipping wars and people debating on different ideas and headcanons, but the Hetalia fandom had something a bit different going on.

You see, a lot of people didn’t like - or even hated - Hetalia, because they saw it as racist and offensive. If you admitted you liked Hetalia outside of the fandom, you ran a definite risk of getting either shunned or degraded for it. And if that wasn’t bad enough, you had a group of fans - a rather small group of fans, mind you - who did some pretty insensitive things that ended up landing the fandom in some serious hot water.

You’d have people in that small group of fans who’d openly do the Nazi salute while cosplaying Germany at conventions, and there was even the incident where you had fans cosplaying as Nazi Germany to the holocaust museum, where they decided to pose doing the Nazi salute. I even saw a cosplay of Germany and Prussia pointing guns at the Star of David, which is a well known symbol of the Jewish faith. Not to mention the fans who seemed to fetishize Nazi Germany and Prussia. Now, I may not know about everything these people did, as I was pretty good at staying on the light side of the fandom, but these were some pretty well known and disgraceful problems that everyone would find out about sooner or later.

Sadly enough, it was that small, tiny percentile of the fandom that did things that were so offensive, so wrong, that it was greatly magnified by others, thus giving the fandom its toxic, even cringey reputation. And I really hope we don’t have to relive that all over again.

So what I hope is that we are able to leave all of that behind us. Though I’ve already seen some Twitter users try to start drama all over again by reposting the offensive cosplays, and Tumblr users getting their panties in a wad because they apparently have nothing else better to do. But because a vast majority of the Hetalia fans are like me in that we’ve grown older and matured, I’m hoping we can help guide the younger, newer fans in the right direction.

And I won’t deny that I am very worried about the newer fans getting harassed and bullied on social media. I don’t have a lot of advice when it comes to the haters, other than the usual ‘ignore them and don’t respond’, tactic. But just know that if they don’t leave you alone, you can always block them.

And here’s another bit I want to touch upon. While I can completely understand why people see this show as racist and offensive, I honestly don’t think it is. If anything, I think it actually teaches us something. And no, I’m not talking about history right here. I’m talking about the stereotypes, and how they are portrayed. I think this show helps us to understand that all of these different stereotypes we have about different people and countries are all stupid and silly.

Do we actually know a German who is exactly like Hetalia’s Germany? No. Do any of us know an Englishman who is identical to Hetalia’s England in every way? Of course not. This series helps us to understand that the stereotypes so many of us hold onto today are nothing more than just stupid, silly old ideas that have been blown far out of proportion over the years. 

Many people try to claim that this show is overtly racist and tries to divide, but in my opinion, I think it ties us together.

At the end of the day, I’m incredibly excited and eager to see the new season of Hetalia, and everything that it will have in store for us. And it’s fun too look back on all the nostalgic memories I have of this show. This is all I have to say for now, but I may or may not be coming back to this topic in the future. Might even make another blog for Hetalia while I’m coming back to the fandom. After all, this is known as the fandom you can’t escape from.

Three Days ~ 57

~*~Emma~*~

Before jumping in the shower, I pulled up the naked picture, put a peach (I was in Georgia, after all) over my ass, and posted it on Instagram along with one of Amy and I floating and holding hands. I drew a heart around us and captioned it “Sister love”. When I got out of the shower, I had a text.

Sebastian ~ Imagine my sad face when there wasn’t a peach free version in my texts. Nice bikini.

Emma ~ You mean the version with my bikini bottoms that my sister took.

Sebastian ~ Ok, maybe not. Still a sad face.

 I sent him a posed bikini shot.

 Sebastian ~ I’m not going to complain. What a beauty. How is it going?

Emma ~ Five minutes and I'll call you.

Sebastian ~ Should be just enough time... with my new bikini pic.

Emma ~ Now I know why your biceps are so big.

Sebastian ~ Foreams.

 I pulled the towel off my hair, threw on clothes, and opened my iPad. Didn't take him long to answer. "Ce mai faci, Sebasti-an?" <How are you?>

“I was having a good day, now it's even better. How about you?"

I caught him up on the day and plans for the long weekend.

"You're going to be busier than me. I’ve got dinner with the guys. Then Canada. Sounds like our Sunday date may need to be postponed."

Our phone sex date. "Hell, no. Do you think after a day with family I'm not going to need to release some tension?"

Sebastian sighed, "That's all I am to you. Tension release."

"More of a perk than a purpose."

"I can live with that." He shrugged with a smile.

“That’s good because dad introduced to an eligible doctor today. He wanted to invite him to dinner. I told him my boyfriend didn’t like me to go on dates with other men.”

“Damn straight.”

“I call him bait.”

“To his face?”

I snickered and shook my head, "We've got pizza coming for dinner. Wanna meet the fam now? Natural conversation ender."

"Whenever."

I stood up, "Now, then I'll call you later. Unless you're falling back into your hole."

He held his thumb and forefinger an inch apart, "A little hole. I’m all yours whenever."

"Won't be too late." I opened my door and headed down the hall. I could see everyone in the family room. "Hey guys, I’ve got Sebastian. Want to meet him?"

Amy yelled, "Yes."

I put the iPad on the coffee table while they squished together. I stood behind them. "Family, Sebastian. Sebastian, this is Katie, Amy, mom is Andrea, and dad is David."

"Nice to meet all of you."

Katie got very close to the camera like she did when she talked to me, "Do you have a dog?"

"I don't have a dog. Do you have a dog?"

"No, but I want one. What about a cat, do you have a cat?"

He shook his head with a pout, "They make me sneeze. I have a fish. He lives with your Aunt Emma. His name is Mycroft."

"That's a stupid name."

Sebastian crinkled up his nose, "I know. Emma named him.”

Amy pulled her away, "We don't say stupid."

"She's a cutie." Sebastian looked between us. "I’m about to sound like I’m sucking up. All four of you are beautiful and carbon copies. Love the new hair, Amy."

Amy ran her fingers through, "Thank you."

Mom added, "Sucking up or not, always nice to hear. Amy said you're on your way to Canada."

Sounds like Amy had told our parents about our conversation.

"Yes. I have a movie showing at the Toronto Film Festival. I’m doing some advance press and meetings."

"And Rome," from Amy.

"Female spy movie."

My dad spoke up, "I‘m a history buff and have read about the units, mostly in Europe during World War two."

And they were off. Sebastian had been researching and dad directed him to a couple of books. They were animated and their conversation bounced back and forth. Sebastian managed to guide the talk around and asked mom about the mini-family reunion going on Sunday. Mom talked about the menu before she started sharing embarrassing stories. Sebastian told a few on himself. I pulled Amy in and she retaliated with a particularly embarrassing story that ended with me peeing by the side of a road. Maybe this meeting thing was a bad idea.

Sebastian looked at me, "So when we take a road trip you can point out the best places."

His words were teasing, but his expression was adoration. I felt it all over and smiled in return. "I imagine you’d block me from view instead of advertising a roadside strip show like she did.”

“I would.”

Fifteen minutes in the doorbell rang. I was starving but wished it had taken a little longer. I had been a little worried at first when it felt like they were interviewing him, but like he’d told me and I’d seen, after a few minutes they went back to normal and talked to him like he was anyone else. I was still standing in the back and went after the pizza, putting it on the table before returning to my spot. He and Amy were laughing about something.

Sebastian glanced up at me for a second, “I don’t want to keep you from dinner. Emma’s bragged on the pizza place. Go eat while it’s hot.”

Amy and dad said it was nice to meet him and mom said, “Fingers crossed things continue and we get to do this again or in person.”

What the fuck!

Sebastian saw me make a face and throw my hands up. He smiled and spoke to my mom, “I’m not going anywhere.” He glanced up to me, “I’ll talk to you later, Em?”

“Yep, I’ll text to make sure you’re still up.”

I used the time it took me to walk around the couch and close the cover on my iPad to calm myself down. What an absolutely strange thing for my mother to say to my boyfriend. By strange I mean bitchy. I wasn't willing to let it go but now wasn't the time. I'd like to say because I didn't want to confront her in front of the whole family, but it was because I was hungry.

Amy was buckling Katie in her booster seat, mom had the plates, and dad had multiple bottles of beer. I had no function. I sat down and opened the pizza boxes. The first bite was as good as I remembered. The combination of flavor and the happy memories made me smile. I chased the bite with beer and was in heaven.

I was content to sit quietly enjoying my pizza and beer. My twin was not, "Sebastian is nice and funny. He tells great stories. His expressions. I mean I know he's an actor, but this was him as a person. I like him."

"Me too," came from Katie.

"And he is gorgeous." Amy’s eyes were huge, "Gorgeous."

I pulled my lips to the side and nodded, "Yes, he is."

From the end of the table, my dad spoke, "Amy, tell us what's going on at the lake?"

Mom added, "Is Max going to be there?"

The rest of dinner was my parents talking to Amy about tomorrow and asking questions about her and Max. Not one word from either of them about Sebastian. I could tell they knew a lot about Max by the questions they asked. Zero questions about my boyfriend, who they knew next to nothing about. They knew next to nothing about how we met or what we’d done. They were asking about Amy and Max though. I wasn't even included in the conversation. I didn't have a function here either.

I wonder how much beer is in the fridge or tequila in the bar?

I’m angry. Sebastian was charming, self-effacing, and knew enough about them to ask questions. I don't expect them to gush all over about him, but how about a "he seems nice" or even "it was nice to talk to him.". But no. Nothing. Zippo.

One of the first things I learned in rehab was anger is a secondary emotion. Equally as valid, but still derived from another emotion. Something comes first and triggers anger. My feelings are hurt. They can talk to Amy about Max at any time. Literally at any time because she lives here. I'm here for five days and we just had him on FaceTime. Silence. I feel discounted.

I volunteered to take the garbage out. I needed some air. Instead of coming back inside, I sat down on one of the loungers, putting my phone on the side table. Closing my eyes and focusing on my breathing I tried to slip into calm. I was almost there when I heard the doors open and close. The calm disappeared. I was guessing it was mom. Dad wasn't one for confrontation and there was no mistaking there was going to be confrontation. Imagine my surprise when it was both of them.

"Hey, sweetheart." Dad sat on the foot of the lounger next to me. I pulled my feet up, making room for mom.

"Hey, has Katie gone to bed?"

Mom shook her head. "Amy's reading to her."

"We wanted to talk to you about Amy."

"OK." I was a little confused. "She seems really good. The last few months we've been texting and talking more. Today was nice. Laying here in the pool talking like we were teenagers again."

Mom put her hand on my foot, "I’m glad. Amy told us some of it."

My dad had his hands clasped between his knees. "Amy has been doing well. She has a good job, has been going out with friends, and she likes this Max."

“I remember him from high school."

"We'd like to keep her doing well. This is the longest she's been sober. We need you to tone it down a little."

I cocked my head, "Tone what down?"

Dad said, "Talking about Sebastian."

In an interesting twist, mom tried to lessen that blow. Sort of. "In general too. How good things are going at work and your social life. She compares herself to you and we don't want Amy to feel bad about herself."

I needed to know, "Did Amy say something? Have I said or done something for her to feel inferior?"

"No, not all. She said the same as you about how good it felt today."

Amy saying she felt less was completely different than what was going on here. I fought back angry tears. "First, I have barely talked about Sebastian. Amy asked questions from the hospital to here. I was excited for you all to meet him, but did it before dinner so it was time limited. That’s all I’ve said about him. You two don't even know how we met. Your disinterest is pretty clear.” I looked at dad, "I wasn't going to bring him up until after dinner, but you were trying to set me up." I turned my head to my mom, "And you straight up said if you two don't break up maybe we'll talk to you again."

"Emiliana, you're overreacting. Sebastian seems very nice and seems to be quite taken with you. My comment was more for Amy. He's a movie star. Of course, she's jealous, but she needs to remember dating doesn't mean forever."

"But you said it to Sebastian. Why would you say that to either of us?" I had my hand up with all fingers pointing at my chest. "Sebastian is the first relationship I’ve had in forever and you're forecasting the end. I’m happy and you're saying maybe it’ll last. That’s hurtful and mean."

"I’m happy for you. We're just asking you not to rub your sister's nose in your happiness and success."

Had I thought there was the slightest bit of truth to that statement I would have backed down. But there wasn't. "I've done no such thing. I've intentionally not done that. There's so much I could be saying, but haven't."

"Thank you. Please keep it that way."                                                                .

I stared at her. The correct response would have been they wanted to hear all about him.

My dad's voice cut the silence. "I didn't know you were dating anyone. I wouldn't have mentioned Frank coming to dinner if I had. What's so wrong with wanting my daughter to come home?"

He did well until the last sentence. It sucked the anger out of me and left sadness. "But you don't want me home. You want a version of me who isn't excited about a new boyfriend, or celebrates winning a volleyball tournament, or has friends who enjoy hanging out with me, or is proud of how she does her job. Or is at least is willing to pretend she isn’t."

Neither said anything. They couldn't because they knew I was right. I picked up my phone and stood up, "I'm going to go sit by the lake for a bit. Watch the water."

Mom didn't move, but Dad stood up. "Emma, Amy has struggled and worked hard to deal with what happened that summer."

I curled my lips in tight, refusing to cry. "So did I."

I walked along the wooded path and to the end of the dock. I sat dangling my legs off and called my other dad.

Ed picked up on the first ring, "It's too soon for you to call. You haven't been there for twelve hours."

I jumped right in. "I had a fight with my parents. The day with Amy has been great, like we were kids again. We’ve laughed and talked and even had this moment where we connected about what happened. Then my parents literally told me to stop being so happy. I might make Amy relapse."

"I love you, Emma.” He gave me a smile that was more sad than happy. “Tell me what they said. Exactly what they said."

Tears rolled down my face as I relayed the conversation.

Ed was silent until the end. He has always tried to be objective and not say anything negative about my parents. "Fuck them, Emma."

I started laughing. "I knew I wasn't overreacting. It’s not even that they want me tone it down because I do that with Amy all the time. I always check what's going on with her before I tell her what's going on with me. I'm always careful."

"I know you are."

"It's that they don't even consider me. Not a word. Had they said they wanted to hear all about Seb, but things were rough with Amy it would have been alright. But Amy's doing great and I can't be too happy in case she might not be. I have to be half of me so they can hope she'll be whole. I want her to be ok too, but not at the expense of me. To throw out they want me home. Why would I ever even consider moving back here with people who want me to diminish myself? And that she struggled. What do they think I did?”

“You could tell them.”

“Tell them? Are you crazy? So next time Amy is feeling bad about herself they can tell her then she relapses and tells whoever. No, thank you.”

Ed laughed, “I didn’t say it was a good idea. Don’t forget it’s your choice. You always have a choice. Even if it’s the best choice there are consequences. For the record, I think you made the right choice.”

I laid down on the dock. I know it’s not about sides, but I needed somebody on mine. Ed was on mine. “I want to go home.”

“Call an Uber and go to the airport. You need money, I’ll send. Or call Sebastian he’ll fly you home.”

That made me laugh, he was clearing the way for whatever I needed. “It’s my choice.”

“Always.”

I thought a second and Ed was good with the silence. “The only reason I’m not going home is that I don’t think this is Amy and we’re spending a day out with friends tomorrow. I don’t want to miss a good visit with my sister because my parents are assholes.”

“You said that, not me.”

“I read your mind. I love you. Thank you. I’m better.” I groaned, “I’m supposed to FaceTime Sebastian. I’m sure I’m a mess.”

“Don’t lie to him. Don’t pretend everything’s ok. Let him support you. I think he’ll be good at it. Doesn’t mean I’m going to quit giving him shit.”

“He doesn’t think you’re going to kill him anymore.”

“I’ll have to work harder.”

We hung up and I headed back toward the house. It was nearly pitch black out here and I wanted to see Sebastian.

How many languages do you speak? Just one fluently. I can speak some Spanish, though. 

What was the worst movie you've ever seen? Hm. There’s been several wtf movies, but I don’t know what I’d say was the worst. I don’t feel like thinking much about it.

What video game have you played the most? Mario bro games and most recently Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I’ve been playing that just about everyday for a lot of this year.

What was your favorite TV show as a child? Nick Jr shows, Playhouse Disney shows, Arthur, The Big Comfy Couch, Tiny Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Bobby’s World, some Cartoon Network cartoons, and Saturday morning cartoons like Recess and Pepperann.

Do you believe there’s life on other planets? Not in the form of ugly green creatures with odd shaped heads.

What do you do to fall asleep faster? I don’t have much say when I fall asleep, but to try and help with that I listen to ASMR.

Ae you afraid that one day you might get cancer? It is something I’m afraid of. I’m someone who tends to think it’s always a possibility whenever something is wrong or I’m really sick.

When was the last time you were really angry? My doctor pisses me off. I don’t know why it’s so hard to get a call back regarding some lab results. I call and they say they’re waiting for the doctor to look over them and they’ll call me back to let me know but ugh it’s been taking days.

Have you ever made a 3 pointer in a basketball game? I’ve never participated in a basketball game.

Do you think you look better with your hair up or down? Down, but I always throw it up because it’s easier to deal with. I don’t have the energy or motivation to style or do anything with it.

1. What’s your sexual orientation? 

Straight. But maybe for the right woman I could sway but wouldn’t go so far as to call myself bi or bi-curious though.

2. What are you obsessed with right now? 

Obsessively obsessing about my health and how to get well and failing it all. Oh and anime movies on Netflix.

3. Ever done any drugs?

I do drugs everyday. But I assume this is referring to illegal. No and was strictly no up until recently. I now take marijuana oil on a regular basis for pain management. Also being stoned/high is not pleasant and I don’t understand why people would enjoy that as a leisurely pastime.

4. What piercings do you want?

I want to get my ears pierced again. Holes have closed up, but currently due to my health that’s not possible. I can’t even enjoy clipons :(

5. How many people have you kissed?

The massive number of 5.

6. Describe your dream home.

It’s tiny in the sense it has all the space I need. A cosy tiny-like home. But not one on wheels, fixed to the ground. And it would be made of all natural materials, stone and wood. It would be unique and resemble something out of a fairy tale. It would sit a beautiful clearing with only nature to view in the distance and all the animals and wildlife would stay well away because I’m pretty much terrified of all it, 

7. Who are you jealous of?

Healthy, painfree people. I am jealous of past me who didn’t realise how lucky she was and miss her.

8. What’s your favorite show to binge?

I don’t binge any show on repeat. I’d rather look for a new show to watch or enjoy, there are so many. The last shows I binged in two days was Queen’s Gambit and Emily in Paris.

9. Do you watch porn?

Yep. But struggle with it because it’s overdramatic, unrealistic and would kill or someone to make porn with a decent storyline with people that can act. 

I prefer to read it if I’m honest or maybe just write it for myself.

Sort of? More like my other one I used I was known for all my slash writings in F1. But now I just hang out here.

11. If you could teleport anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?

No where. The world is riddled with co-vid and well, I’m probably in one of the safest countries and I’m at risk of death should I catch it. So I’ll stay here in my safe bubble.

12. What’s one of your fantasies?

I wake up tomorrow and I’m not me. I wake up and I can take a deep breath without gasping for air, I wake up in no pain, I wake up and my body isn’t terribly scared, I wake up and can have a ‘normal’ life.

Nope and no desire too. Won’t that just hurt?

14. How would you spend a million dollars?

I’d by that dream house I described, set everything up to be self sufficient. Pay and travel to try every cure available for my diseases. And then bank the rest and live off interest. Or maybe donate it. I don’t want money and I don’t really want a lot of things.

15. Are you in a relationship?

Yep and it’s a struggle and am constantly fighting to prove it’s worth continuing. Oh and that’s a relationship with myself.

No.

17. Are you angry with anyone right now?

No, I suppose it’s more disappointed and let down by people more than angry. I’m working everyday on letting it go but it’s not easy.

18. What tattoos do you want?

I have always wanted one, but have never found something that I really loved and haven’t been imaginative enough to create something unique. The older I get though, I’m not sure I want one. I did for the longest time though think about getting a Ferrari tattooed on my inner wrist, but pleased I never did that. I don’t love the sport or Ferrari enough anymore to want a permanent reminder of that.

19. If you could change your name, would you? What would you change it to?

I am changing name actually. Hoping to action that in the next two weeks. I would have done it earlier but they closed the borders. I have a dutch sir name that has two words. It confuses every one, systems don’t get it, it has caused issues with plane tickets. And well I’ve decided no more and am dumping a portion of it.

20. What is something you’re obsessed with?

This is a duplicate. Skipping.

21. Describe your best friend.

When you meet her for the first time she can be a little crazy and wild, and she kind of scared at me first because she’s so unlike me. But as you got to know her, the *real* her she doesn’t let people see, you realise how kind and soft she is, and she’s the most empathic person I have known. She gives so much of herself to everyone, thinks so little of herself and her needs because she’s one of the most selfless people I know. I love her more than most of my family and would do anything for her.

Is this followers? Uh most I don’t know what they look like? I assume they’re all hot!

23. Who are five of your favorite bands/musical artists?

Don’t have any really. My music is varied and is based on my mood and really changes around. And with most bands, I generally lean towards one or two songs. This is one of those questions I really struggle with whenever I see it. Will say however, have been enjoying The Beatles recently and a bit of old school stuff.

24. What are three places you want to travel?

Japan. Norway. Canada.

25. Describe your perfect Friday night.

Generally hanging out with people I like. Enjoying a good wine, some cheese, either playing some board game or dungeons and dragons, or watching a really good movie. Good company makes any night a good night.

26. What’s your favorite season?

Autumn. One because I think it’s neglected as a choice and every season should be loved, and two because I love the colours of autumn and the colours associated with autumn. 

27. What’s your pet peeve?

I’m sure I have a heap of them, but currently it’s people that have an issue with you and instead of being an adult and talking to you about them choose to silence and blank you. I’m so tired of it, I’ve quit being peacemaker in those situations, those people are no longer worthy in my book.

28. Who is the funniest person you know?

Uh... I don’t think anyone I know is super funny. Friends and family all have a good sense of humor. But out of my circle of life people I’m always told I’m the funny one, which I find the biggest joke ever. 

29. What’s the most overrated movie?

Can not think of anything off the top of my head. I will say if I think a movie is getting too much hype I refuse to watch it, whether all the reviews are raving or not. It’s why I didn’t watch Harry Potter for like ten years or any of the new Star Wars movies. I just refuse to be apart of all the hype and jump on bandwagons.

30. Tag someone you want to talk to but have been too shy to message.

I’d love to talk to everyone. I’m shy to start any conversations to be honest and I think all the people I talk to regularly were the first to message me, and I love them for it.

31. Do you like paper books or ebooks better?

100% love an old fashioned paper book. The texture of the paper. The smell of a book. That being said, I don’t think I’ve picked up a proper book to read in years. I live in fan fiction more than anything or am busy writing myself.

32. If you could live in a fictional world, what world would you pick?

Any of the disney worlds, anything from the past, or verging on fantasy like. I want a simpler time not full of technology which I grow to hate more each day. The older I get the more I’m pretty sure I’ve been born in the wrong decade.

33. If money was no object, what would your wardrobe be like?

I’d build the perfect wardrobe capsule. Everything would be of high quality, not necessarily brand name and all the clothes would be sourced from ethical businesses or be handmade.

I like classic pieces, love the fashion of the 50′s and 60s and while stylish it would be comfortable to wear and everything could be worn in public (sorry comfy tracky pants).

34. What’s your coffee order?

There ain’t no coffee order. I don’t drink it. Sorry @leoni-speedyf1 I know how addicted you are to it, happy to buy you anything you like though :P

In real life? No one.

Not romantic. I have feelings in that I hope they’re doing well, achieving what they want and they’re all happy. I didn’t have any ‘bad’ breakups and all my relationships ended very amicably.

Rarely. Can’t with medication and condition. But on occasion I do enjoy a good glass of red. Pinot Noir is my preference.

Uh all the men I know I am not attracted to. Probably a good thing as they’re either family or partnered with a friend or family member.

Can’t think of anything. I try not to feel guilt for anything I enjoy to be honest, whether it’s food or an activity. Life is too short for that.

Yep. Even write it.

45. What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on?

It was a few years back. I met this guy online and we went to the city and spent most of that time just strolling next to the river for our first meet up. Why was it the worst date ever? Well it wasn’t the location that’s for sure.

The guy had two kids, and I’m a firm believer all parents have favourites, though I have yet to meet a parent that will voice that aloud. This guy, had no qualms with telling me about this favourite kid, and that wouldn’t be a problem if didn’t spend just as much putting down his younger son. It kind of left me reeling and wondering how his son felt if his dad didn’t hide just how much he didn’t like him as a person. The kid was four and the reason his dad didn’t like him was because he didn’t like bikes.

And so the guy was a bmx rider so he spent the rest of the time on our walk just pointing out all the tricks he could do. He didn’t ask about me, only talked about himself. It was also lunch time and assumed we would get something to eat together, but nope, no food was offered. And when I suggested to get something to drink because it was so hot and we’d been out in the sun for like an hour, he just took me to a subway and told me to get a drink and waved me to the line. No offer to join me, no offer to pay (which doesn’t bother me btw, but this was capping off a terrible day), no offer to get food.

I was so happy to get out of there. Didn’t speak to him again once I had left.

46. How many people do you follow?

I currently follow 59 people. I don’t follow anyone that creates drama, and try and follow only people that post about F1 as that’s all I use tumblr for now.

47. If you could marry any celebrity, who would you pick?

Either Sebastian Vettel or Ryan Reynolds. Both are married though, so I don’t think that’s going to turn into a reality anytime soon.

48. Describe your ideal partner.

I want someone that shares the same core values as me. Doesn’t want kids, isn’t super religious (grew up in a cult like religion so I avoid it now), is on the minimalist side and isn’t someone that needs new things things all the time or is desperate to replace something the moment they deem it out of date. Someone that doesn’t live their life on social media. Someone that prefers simple things, someone who is kind and giving, and someone that truly loves me - and it’s the last part that I struggle with finding more than anything with all the guys I have dated. 

I am currently not looking for a partner, I am not in a place for a relationship and am fully focused on myself. And I am very content with that decision.

Currently my bestie.

50. What’s your favorite kind of weather?

Part 4 of Semp’s Bad Fics About Cherri Cola

Yep, y’all read that right! The fourth part of the series is finished and i have 0 impulse control so I’m posting it right now! While stuck at Dr. Death Defying's radio station, Jet Star tries to help Cherri Cola with some poetry and gets a bit more than they asked for.

Jet Star wandered through the living room of Dr. Death Defying’s radio station, listening to the rain patter on the roof. They and Party Poison had happened to have been out when a bout of acid rain had struck, and you never wanted to be outside in acid rain. Even with the protection of a car roof, it was still preferable to wait out acid rain inside. The radio station was by far the closest shelter, which was how they had ended up stuck here.

So now Party was telling Show Pony the long and convoluted story of how they had gotten back at Fun Ghoul for replacing their coffee with Cherri Cola’s (lukewarm and rather disgusting) tea, complete with animated hand gestures, and Jet Star was wandering aimlessly. While they were looking around for something to do, they spotted Cherri Cola himself, sitting in the corner and scribbling on a scrap of paper. This was no surprise; Cherri spent most of his time hanging around either Dr. D’s radio station or the Four’s diner, and he always seemed to have a piece of scrap paper and pencil on him somehow.

Usually, Jet wouldn’t have bothered him, but they were very bored. Besides, Cola looked mildly distraught, so they probably ought to check on him.

He glanced up as they approached, a bit of his hair falling in his face. “How would you describe the sun?”

“Uh….warm?”

Cherri Cola groaned and let his head fall into his hands. “You’d think someone who’s been writing poetry for years would be able to actually write, but no.”

“I think you can write,” Jet protested.

Cherri sighed. “I know what needs to be said, but I can’t find the right words.”

“What are you trying to write? If you’re okay telling me.”

They watched Cherri twist his hands together for a few moments, eventually huffing a small sigh.

“You know I used to be a wavehead, right?”

Jet nodded. Cola’s past addictions were somewhat of an open secret; technically the Fabulous Four weren’t supposed to know, but Cola was awful at keeping secrets and Show Pony was even worse. It was one of those things they all knew but no one ever brought up, not even Poison.

“I’m trying…” Cherri fiddled with his pencil. “I’m trying to write about war and addiction and sunlight and grief.”

“But you don’t have the right words?”

“But I don’t have the right words.”

Jet thought for a second. “Maybe you could describe it to me out loud and see if that helps?”

“That would be good, actually.” Cola took a deep breath.

“Grief is like…darkness. Like thorns and night and suffocating. Guilt and grief- people say they’re like a hole where someone should be, but I lived that kind of grief long before the kind that drove me to the relief of sunlight. That kind was like a hole, like a missing piece to a puzzle that you couldn’t ignore but could do most of the puzzle without, like an ache that never went away but one you could function with. The second kind, the one tangled with guilt, is like darkness and thorny brambles that pull you in. You can never escape it, it’s everywhere you look and the best thing you can do is get a flashlight and shine some light in your eyes, get the sun or BLI drugs or something that makes it so you can’t see the darkness for a bit, but it’s only ever temporary and nothing can ever pull you out of the pain you’re buried in. And it feels like that and it seems like it’s always going to feel like that because the darkness just keeps dragging you under, no matter how much artificial light you try to bring, and you’re just begging for someone to light you a candle or hand you a flashlight because there has to be some way out-“

He broke off and turned away, refusing to look at Jet.

“Sorry,” He whispered after a moment, sounding very small indeed.

Jet noticed his hands shaking and reached out to still them, managing not to flinch at the scars that covered the poet’s hands. “It’s okay. It really is.”

They made sure to use the gentle voice they used when the other members of their crew were upset. It often helped calm the others down, especially Kobra, and it seemed to work well enough on Cherri Cola too. His hands had stopped shaking quite so much, only their usual faint shake remaining, and his breathing had slowed.

“You’re going to be okay. It’s okay,” Jet promised again.

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have gone so far down that path.”

Anything they could have said in response was cut off by a burst of laughter from Show Pony and Party Poison, cackling about….Jet wasn’t sure, but they from what they gathered, some incident involving a particularly prickly cactus, roller skates, and DJ Hot Chimp. It wasn't as if they knew what they would have said anyways.

“How- I mean, is it possible to escape that kind of grief?” They asked instead.

Cherri’s voice had grown calm again, although he was fiddling with his pencil and paper. “It is, but it’s hard. When all the artificial light leaves, when there’s no more escapes, everything presses in on you and the darkness feels so much more endless than before. It takes friends to pull you out of that, it takes other people to reach out a hand or throw you a rope so you can start stumbling out of the dark. But no one can give you light. You have to make that on your own. They can be a light in the distance, but you have to choose to get up and go towards it, you have to start illuminating the darkness yourself or you’ll never really leave.”

Another cackle of laughter came from the other side of the room as Cherri twisted the pencil between his hands. “It never goes away, not entirely. There are always days when the darkness presses in and it feels like you’re caught in the briars again. They get easier, and less common, but they never go away. It never really leaves, you just get better at lighting up the dark.”

“Oh.” It was a bit silly, but it was really all they could think to say. “Did that help with the poetry?”

“It helped a lot, thank you.” He bent over his paper again, scribbling away for a moment before glancing up. “If you want context for everything I just threw at you…”

Jet knew what he meant by trailing off. “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t want.”

“I- no, I don’t mind you and the rest of the four knowing some things that others don’t. You already know things you’re not supposed to,” Cola said with a wry smile. “I won’t bother you too much, but I want you- all four of you, really- not to have to learn my lessons the hard way.”

Jet nodded, trying to convey that he could go on.

“The most important thing is always going to be the family you build around you,” Cherri continued. “I wouldn’t have made it so far without D and Pony, or even you and your crew. When you find the people who love you, don’t let them go. Don’t push them away, it only hurts them and you. And…don’t let pain consume you. I lost my sister to BLI and then lost her again, and I let it turn me into a person you wouldn’t have liked to meet. Don’t follow my example, don’t go down that path of rage and self-destruction. You can’t control what happens to you, but you do control how you react. How you deal with what hurts you.”

Jet nodded again, knowing every bit of that wisdom came from years upon years of awful events. “That seems like wise advice.”

“I hope so.” He offered another sad smile. “I like to think I can help younger ‘joys with all the awful things I had to learn.”

“I think you’re doing a good job,” They offered. “You’re very-“

“Hey! Jet!” Poison shouted from across the room, effectively cutting them off. “The rain’s all cleared up, we’ve got t’ get back t’ the diner before th’ others flip their shit!”

Jet sighed. “It was nice to talk to you, Cola.”

Cola smiled kindly. “Go on, Poison is right about Kobra and Ghoul worrying if you’re out for longer than planned. Thank you for letting me talk some things out, it was very helpful.”

They had a feeling it wasn’t necessarily the poetry he was talking about anymore as they waved goodbye and made their way back to Party, who had somehow managed to drape themself over the sofa in an impatient way. And Cola’s words stuck with them long after the Trans Am had pulled away from the radio station with a few shouted goodbyes and the roar of the engine.

This originally had the ecchi tag on its anime entry on AniList…or, at least, that’s how it was in my memory…but now that I see it doesn’t have that, it’s just another reincarnation isekai-type series. Let’s dig into it!

I…think this guy is meant to be portrayed as “hot” because he has the piercing eyes and he’s tall (against the girls in what will presumedly be his harem), but he kind of looks like your standard Potato-kun in a white outfit…so, uh…*shrugs*

Uh…is that guy meant to be Indian? You can’t get more obvious than the “Indu” family. Update: You see his brother later and Leorg has fairer skin, so maybe not.

LOL, “Flame of Darkness” makes someone nothing but a chuunibyou.

I thought it was the other Indu guy we saw earlier. This guy’s…not that bad-looking, though (LOL, my preferences ring out loud and clear…)…welp, spoke too soon. There he is. Update: Leorg kinda looks like Hakuto Kunai from Demon Lord, Retry!, come to think of it.

If Zepes died several times over the course of this episode…would one more death actually matter? (Not really, to be honest. Zepes is a scumbag.)

Come to think of it, this anime got postponed due to COVID, yeah? Was that why there was a sakuga spot earlier…?

Was that Sasha (Misha’s sister)? I found her name while checking if the anime was postponed.

I like the colour choices in this show, at least.

I don’t think this show has the best sense of comedic timing. Let your jokes breathe, dammit! That’s what comedic beats are for!

In a season with more offerings, I might get rid of this or pause it, but the season’s fairly sparse as it stands (darn virus!) so it stays.

Update: I didn’t notice, but an Anime News Network staff member wrote that Anoth’s surname is familiar…if you read Harry Potter.

Healin’ Good PreCure 13

Gotta start in the middle for this and work our way back. Note I did watch the 1st 2 eps without subs earlier this year when they were on the official PreCure YouTube, so I’m ahead of most people.

(From wandering the wiki and the news) I’ve seen nothing but pink/blue/yellow Cures these days, so I kind miss the more adventurous colours like green and orange…but then again, I never really liked green. It’s the colour of envy and…as petty as it sounds, I think I developed that bias because green is stereotypically the colour of rot, vomit (aside from anime’s rainbow vomit) and stinky things.

I didn’t notice this, but there’s a faint highlight on the Cures’ eyes (red for Grace, purple for Fontaine and blue for Sparkle).

It’s a drone! In PreCure! Yay! (It finally hit me exactly how much of a distant dream it’s been – from watching Suite and episodes of most of the other PreCure ‘til now – watching PreCure legally as a simulcast is! It’s crazy and it only took, what…5 years between Suite and this? 16 if you count from Futari wa to Healin’ Good.)

Is it that drone?

Hah? This is almost like the electricity-themed PreCure I came up with on the fan wiki. It’s not like I could sue Toei for it, though…they own that stuff, I only own what came out of my own imagination.

The subs say “Rate”, but “rate” has a meaning in English. No wonder the initial wiki translations say “Latte”, especially because the queen is “Teatine” to match.

Okay, so Mei is the sis and Yota is the brother. Got it.

“Energy Source” seems to refer to a place where energy appears…I know that sounds a bit dumb if you don’t realise genki hakken means something like “appearance of energy (for a person)”, but…yeah, the PreCure series is like this. Unfortunately, that’s what you have to deal with.

I feel like this “teamwork overcomes all hardships” message is important in this time of COVID-19.

Guaiwaru = “condition is bad”, or ill health (guai ga warui).

Is that the element of air? I thought the PreCure would’ve used their element of lightning to fix the steamer, but hey, teamwork works too.

I’m a weeny bit peevy they translate minna to “girls”. It’s correct in context when it’s been translated that way, but minna means “everybody”.

I imagined Hinata saying “Watashi no smartphone ga!” instead of “Atarashii sumaho ga hoshii!”

I was thinking this girl…I think the reviews said her name was Tiara…was going to sing to the flower to make it perk up again, but nup, she whistled to it. That seems a bit irrelevant, to be honest. (I would prefer an all or nothing approach to a wish-washy approach like this…as in, if this is an idol show, then either go all in with the singing and dancing, or do something else that’ll catch my attention.)

For some reason, I get this ominous feeling when the word “witch” is mentioned…must be the instinct from Madoka popping up again.

First Webtoon series I’m covering here.

Oh, I checked out the first chapter of the webtoon because CR linked it to their anime page. The only difference I’ve seen from that, aside from fleshing out the backgrounds, is…that creepy skull (?) on the wall.

You can tell it’s Korean when I don’t understand what the text says. (I don’t know Korean, but I do know some Chinese and Japanese.) Update: This is Japanese-dubbed, but they left the Korean text in.

That intro is much more powerful now that the backgrounds are fleshed out.

My favorite photographs so far

Hi gang how is it going; you know exploring Texas and many other areas of the U.S I have seen some pretty amazing creatures. The world of wildlife is so vast and amazing to observe and photograph. There are many photos that I have taken while exploring the world of nature and wildlife. So here are just a few of my absolute favorite shots that I have collected over the years of being a naturalist. 

One of the most dramatic shot that I took that showed the relationship between predator and prey would have to be this shot I took on one of outings at the Lake Lewisville Environmental Learning Area or (LLELA) which is out in Lewisville Texas. I was with a few of my friends and fellow naturalists on a BioBlitz and we decided to head down the Bitter Trail that goes down the river that runs through there. Near the end of the way to the observation deck we saw this butterfly sitting really still. It’s wings were sticking straight out we didn’t know if it was alive or not but the wind caught its left wing and blew it over to reveal a Bold Jumping Spider feeding on this Gulf Fritliary Butterfly. It was quite shocking to see this and once the spider was in view all of us began to click away trying to get our best shots of this crazy scene. This was one of the best shots I got. I tell you; you could hear nothing but shutters when the wing blew to the opposite end of its body. Talk about a powerful scene between predator and prey. 

Another one of my favorite shots would have to be of this Sad Underwing Moth. We were at Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve in Cedar Hill. We were all hiking around the Butterfly garden and my mother called me over to this tree. I had no idea why she was calling for me but I knew that it had to be a creature. She pointed at the tree and I couldn’t see anything. She moved me and tilted my head down and then I saw it after a few seconds. This moth was gigantic but amazing. He blended in with the tree perfectly you couldn’t see it without looking extra hard. When I got this shot home I blew it up on the computer and in this shot (which you can kind of see) You can see almost each individual wing scale. It was quite amazing and one of my favorites for camouflage. I love moths and this is by far one of the biggest moths I have seen so far on my adventures. It is amazing to see moths up close there you can see all the patterns and details. When they are snoozing on a tree or a wall don’t be afraid to get a closer look at it. Notice all the colors, patterns, and textures of the larger moths. Some are more beautiful than others. Most of your bigger moths tend to be the most colorful and most interesting. I may like some of the smaller moths but I am more partial to the bigger moths myself. 

How about a bit of a laugh here. This was taken on my Birthday last year. We went to Grand Prairie to go and revisit and old hangout that we hadn’t been to in years. We often would go out to the Oasis area in Grand Prairie at the the lake. On this day it was on of the hottest days of the year. I remember it was a scorcher and this female Mallard knew how to cool herself down. She was sitting on the fountain letting the water splash her. She was the only duck doing this action. She did get scared off at one point but she didn’t let that keep her down she got right back up there and sat under the sprayer. This was one of the craziest photos I have taken and one of the most comedic. I had never seen a duck do this but she had the right idea to do this. It was quite amusing but I don’t really blame her it was in the triple digits and she was really comfortable. I must say this was one of the most interesting photos in my collection. It was just too darn funny but hey only in Texas am I right? In Texas you see a lot of strange things go on. I don’t get too many shots like this but there are some that are just down right hilarious. You can’t make stuff like this up. 

Another bird photo I took which was one of my favorites was of this Greater Roadrunner. I have a true fondness for the roadrunner being one of my favorite Looney Tunes characters and being one of my favorite birds I have really come to see these birds as fun. This was taken when I first started out as a naturalist and a volunteer at my first place called the Southwest Nature Preserve. This was one of the coolest photos I have ever taken. I was pretty close when I took this. Normally these birds will run when they get the chance too but this one allowed me to get its photo which was really cool. Yep I would never had guessed that we got roadrunners in my neck of the woods but it is not that uncommon so I have come to find out. They are seen quite frequently out there but we have not seen that many Coyotes out there in case you were wondering. this one is the only good photo I have of this particular species. These guys are few and far between for me. Still a fun shot of one of my favorite birds in Texas. 

A cool Tersa Sphinx I saw on campus a couple of semesters ago. I almost fell when I saw this one. No fooling! I stumbled and had to stop myself. On my campus we get a ton of moths some are quite huge. It has often made me wonder what goes on out there at night. I have thought about trying to get an event where we could put out moth lights and attract them to see just how many species we could get for the campus. I have a new nature club and we might just do that some time. For me this is one of the most beautiful moths you can ever see in your life. It looks like someone carved it out of wood. It is a nice maple colored moth with a really beautiful pattern. I love these guys. The Sphinx moths in general are my second favorite moth type. My first favorite is the Saturnids. My personal favorite of all moths is the Luna Moth which I am still trying to track down and get a photo of. The Luna has always been my absolute fave but heck I will take what I can get and this one was a real treat to observe for the first time in my life. This is also the only one that I have ever seen. 

I volunteer out a River Legacy pretty often when it comes to public events and things. This photo was taken on one of our Scout Days late early one December. It was kind of hot for a December day and I was surprised that we had been seeing Snakes out. This hawk was spotted by one of the guys from the Fort Worth Audubon Society that often volunteers for the hikes like I do. This Red-Shouldered Hawk few down in the shrubs and tall grass and grabbed something. I was showing some kids some of the native vegetation when the others started to shout and started to wonder what this hawk had. It wasn’t long until he flew to this branch and showed off his prize. He had killed himself a Western Ribbon Snake which you can see wrapped around his talons. This picture is one of the grossest because if you are to blow up the snake you can see that it has no head be cause the hawk bit it off. You can see just a little bit of blood. I have never had a picture with blood before so this is by far I would say the goriest picture I have on record. I have never seen much gore on my travels but I have seen my share of roadkill and stuff but I never photograph that sort of stuff. I only take pictures of animal hunts when they happen but I don’t always see animals hunting like this so this was one of the most dramatic and one of the moments that has really stuck with me since the day it happened. Kind of cool to see a hawk get its meal. How he saw the snake is beyond me but heck they do have sharp vision and are able to spot things better than we can. So this has a rightful spot on this list. 

 Another moth picture because I am just crazy about moths and butterflies. This Vine Sphinx Moth was found one morning while I was at school on a study break while I was waiting for my next class to start. It is always fun to see something like this on campus. I have seen four pretty large moths on campus and all of them that I have seen are pretty awesome to look at. This one I am often told by friends looks like Darth Vader or a Storm-trooper from Star Wars and as a total science fiction nerd of course I would have to agree with them. This might be my favorite on campus observation of course I can’t really say because I have so many cool observations of different organisms on campus grounds that have so many cool characteristics and a whole lot of cool data on them. Some are even rare for Texas as a whole. 

Another neat one I found at Jesse H. Jones Nature Preserve in the Woodlands of Texas just outside Houston. This Swamp Darner is one of my favorite dragonfly photos I have taken in the past. It was about late evening and this guy was about to rest. Darners you must know can go hours without slowing down so always look for them as the sun start to sink but when the light is still out you might be able to find some starting to roost like this guy. This one decided to buzz me a couple of times and almost landed on me. Darners are some of the largest dragonflies and can get several inches long. This one was a total monster compared to some I have been chasing in the past. However there is one that I am just dying to observe and that is the Dragonhunter which is our largest Dragonfly. I have already seen the largest Damselfly which is called the Great Spreadwing but I still have to see at least one Dragonhunter. The clubtails are the group that the Dragonhunter belongs too. I would like to try and catch one and make some up close observations to add to my experience. I often go looking for Dragonflies and Damselflies. Like moths in the last couple of years of my life I have been really into dragonflies as well. I am also getting into beetles too. Those three groups of insects have really grown on me at this point in time. It is fun to find new species of anything but for me these are what I look for the most it seems. Dragonflies are so amazing and its getting about time to start looking for more of them again since it is starting to warm up out there. I am hoping to go to a few new hot spots this year that a friend keeps telling me about. 

Another one of my favorite photos that I have taken on campus was this one of two carpenter bees. I was focused on the yellow one and didn’t see the other one until it flew in to view. I reviewed my shots and got this really neat on. We get all kinds of stuff at our native plant gardens on our campus. This one was really neat and beautiful. I like this one because you can see all the detail plus you can see most of the wings of the bee that is flying. It was kind of a neat picture and my late grandmother really liked this one so that is really special to me. I love this one a lot for to me it was a very unexpected shot. I love it when I can get natural photo-bombers. Some times I get a new species to my life list that way. 

So those are pretty much my favorite photos that I have taken on the trail. I have more but to be honest when you are like me you have a ton of photos. I have a bunch more that I have really grown a fondness over the years but I had to limit myself which is very hard to do sometimes on a personal note. You never quite know what will turn up on the trail of life. Sometimes you can’t predict or anticipate what you might find when exploring the great out doors. You just have to show up and be prepared for anything. Look hard and don’t over look the tiniest of things because sometimes the tiniest of creatures hold special value and sometimes like in some of my cases are super hard to find and are considered rare organisms. So stay active and be mindful of your surroundings you never quite know what little friend is behind each corner.

Angie’s Questions:

1. What is your absolute favorite song?

I always jam out to Let Her Go by Passenger but I really love a whole bunch of songs and just happen to be very indecisive in choosing a favorite :)

2. Favorite form of physical activity?

What physical activity  When I’m not being pressured to do it, I enjoy running. Just don’t get any bright ideas and sign me up for any marathons or anything.

3. Favorite 5 fanfics?

Okay, the fact that this was hard for me means I’ve definitely read too many:

1) Chasing Thunderstorms series by @tysonrunningfox . This was the first full-length fanfiction that I read when I joined the fandom a couple years ago and it totally blew me away how real and well-written the characters seemed when she wrote them. I haven’t reread the whole series in full IN AGES but sometimes I reread some of my favorite chapters  and fall in love with it all over again!

2) Young God by @oh--you--pretty--things. If there was a fanfic that forged its own trail, this one would do just that. It’s so incredibly different from any other Hiccstrid or HTTYD fanfics out there in its plot and universe, but still manages to remain true to the characters and their personalities --even if its hidden somewhat under Punkcup’s incredibly hot exterior.

3) The Quest by @funkytoes. I love how unique the story is how characters like Astrid, Hiccup, and Eret are portrayed in such an exciting and new way! Plus, anything where my queen is rocking it as a resident badass always gets good marks in my book. 

4) You’re Everything I Want (and Nothing I Can Keep) by @wilderwestqueen. The story is so fun and engaging to read and I’m SUCH a sucker for friends to couple AUs. Hiccup and Astrid are also both complete cuties in this fanfic so that’s always enjoyable to read.

5) I Knew You Were Trouble by @astridthevalkyrie. I really enjoy how this story humanizes Astrid: she’s not just a fierce and tough as nails badass, but she has a soft spot for kids and cares deeply about her friends. Not to mention that Jerkcup is actually an undercover cutie that I love to pieces.

4. Ice cream or warm, home baked, fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies? >:)

5. What inspires you to be creative?

My friends and family. If I know my friends and family are behind me, then I’ll have the will and the mindset to unlock my more creative side and actively express myself rather than just give a passive effort.

6. Does music influence how you act while it’s playing?

Definitely. Once Romantic Flight comes on, I’m a hot fangirl mess of emotions.

7. How do you express yourself creatively?

I really like wearing different kinds of clothes to express myself. Something about mixing and matching accessories and clothes to make an outfit I’m proud of gives me a sense of satisfaction.

8. Do you think Jar Jar Binks is a waste of a character? 

I’m not a hard core Star Wars fan so I don’t really have an opinion.

9. What would cheer you up if you’re having a bad day?

Anyone just taking the initiative to even ask and sit down to listen always makes me feel better whenever I’m down. But sometimes I appreciate little gifts too, like when my mom brings me a drink from Starbucks on her way home from work if she knows I’ve been stressed.

10. Where have you traveled that you would love to travel to again? (or) Where would you like to travel to?]

I’d love to travel to Europe and explore all of those cliché tourist spots like Paris and London and Rome and all that, especially since I’ve never been out of the USA before.

Chris’s Questions:

1. Favorite villain in TV series / movie?

Viggo Grimborn (whether dead or alive) will always be remembered as one of my favorites (but also one my most hated) villains because of how different he is from the typical villain mold in the Dragons series. He runs on his intellect rather than his physical strength; a quality to be appreciated whether you’re the protagonist or the antagonist.

2. Have you been abroad before?

I’ve never been outside of the USA, so unfortunately no :(

3. Favorite class at school?

I love studying history! Learning about the past of the world strangely always makes me feel more in touch and connected with what’s happening in the present.

4. What’s your preferred lifestyle?

I don’t like moving around too much, so I’d prefer to live a more sedentary and constant lifestyle rather than always be jumping around from place to place.

5. Are you afraid of anything?

If we’re talking material things, than not really. But if we’re discussing more abstractly, then definitely things like failure and being isolated and not wanted.

I’m pretty mercurial as far as music preferences go, but right now I’m hardcore rocking out to Ed Sheeran.

I think I joined the HTTYD fandom almost three years ago? I look back on some of my posts I made when I first came onto Tumblr and can’t help but cringe.

10. If you could be a new, original character in your favorite TV series / movie, what would you be like, and what would you do?

I’d like to think that I’d be the sarcastic and friendly Dragon Rider that people enjoy spending time with but who knows?

11. Favorite dragon?

The Night Fury is absolutely amazing! But if I wasn’t able to choose the obvious, probably the Triple Stryke or the Deathsong.

1. What one thing never fails to make you smile?

Listening to music always has a way of making my mood improve, no matter how horrible life can feel sometimes.

2. If you had to make your own Awesome Mix (Guardians of the Galaxy style), what tracks would be on it? 

The entire soundtrack of HTTYD and HTTYD 2, plus probably a bunch of random pop songs that I like (hopefully there’s no song limit).

3. Biggest celebrity crush?

I actually have the biggest girl-crush on America Ferrera. But why wouldn’t I? She’s an activist, a talented actress, and immensely successful. Sounds pretty much like a person that I’d want to get to know.

4. What’s your favorite book and why does it mean a lot to you?

It’s been forever since I’ve actually sat down and read a book just for the sake of enjoyment, but I really enjoy The Book Thief because of how meaningful the story is. It has so much depth to it that not many other books can claim to have.

5. What song makes you want to get up and dance?

Right now, I’m the One by DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne is my favorite dance jam!

6. If you had to make a superhero team out of any fictional characters, who would you choose?

Astrid Hofferson, because she’s an amazing and intelligent warrior; Black Widow, since she has so much spy training and I can imagine would get along great with Astrid; and Allura, because she’s also an accomplished fighter as well as another strong leader.

7. What fictional world would you choose to live in?

B E R K BECAUSE I APPARENTLY THINK I CAN MAKE IT IN THE CLASSICAL ERA ARCTIC CIRCLE AS A VIKING.

8. Dream job?

Teaching has always been something that I’ve had at the forefront of my mind as far as careers are concerned, but if I was more musically inclined or dramatic I would probably want to be a musician or an actress.

9. If it was your last day on Earth, and you had to pick one last meal, what would you have?

I’d devour all of the Indian food I can. Bring on the samosas.

I don’t know what possessed me to see the Peanuts movie, but let’s just say I almost fell asleep three times.

Not too hardcore. I’ll root for home teams (anyone from California) for any sport but I won’t be too broken up if something doesn't go my way and they don't win.

I’d probably be okay with either, but more so in a movie theater.

Hiccup is the only man for me everyone so HANDS OFF (jk).

YES FRIEND. WE ALL NEED MORE OF THIS BROTP I ADORE IT. I think there’s this idea that Nesta hates Rhys and I’m like...my dudes. ACOMAF happened. There was character development. It was beautiful. Please take note of it and the ‘that was why you painted stars on your drawer’ moment. 

Also I just feel like Nesta and Rhys are....Actually quite similar?? I think there’s a kind of...cool pragmatism in both of them (see: ‘I’m going to starve myself and my sisters to see if my father will actually get off his ass and do something’ and Rhys’s...entire UtM persona) And they’re both quite...regal for want of a better word, they both have powerful mental capacities (Rhys’ daemati magic and Nesta’s ability to resist glamours) they’re both quite cerebral in general too. For all that we get talk of Rhys’ power most of his planning revolves around schemes, cunning, manipulation, stealth that sort of thing, it’s never about brute force, Nesta thinks similarly. It’s calculated and careful and listen what I am driving at here is Nesta and Rhys sitting up late sharing some spiced wine and talking battle tactics/war strategies I’M DOWN FOR THIS.  

right, okay, headcanons now that piece of...unnecessary mini meta is over: 

Yes to them teaming up against the others at cards. Like there’s that part of ACOMAF where Rhys gets all huffy because Cassian and Azriel tag-teamed him when they were playing cards? So he invites Nesta to the next game and they...wipe the board with them and Cass and Az are like....okay so we’re screwed and Nesta is very smirky and pleased with herself. 

DEFINITELY YES TO THE INSIDE JOKES THAT BAFFLE FEYRE AND CASS THIS IS ADORABLE. and it is 100% guaranteed to be some completely nerdy joke about history that even Amren doesn’t get (and she was there) But I will get to the history nerds thing in a minute. 

Nesta and Rhys teaming up against Cass and Feyre would be...Amazing. And like, Nesta and Rhys are ruthlessly competitive and Feyre and Cass are too but while Feyre is ruthlessly competitive Cassian is just like...determined competitive. And basically the big golden hearted bat gets surrounded by all of these vicious bastards who just want to win and will do anything to achieve that and he’s like !?!?! no pls calm down let’s enjoy the snacks I brought okay? He and Feyre do work very,very well together and hot damn is that girl determined and scrappy but most of the time they’re no match for Nesta and Rhys who will just....destroy you then elegantly sip wine over the dust that was once your corpse. 

CHeSs GAmES Rhys being a broody and dramatic bat with the weight of the world on his shoulders and Nesta knows it. Mor and Cass have both tried teasing him and coaxing him into letting go with them and Az has tried quietly talking to him and Feyre has tried too but she knows to just leave him be for a little while but Nesta...is having none of that broody bullshit. She settles herself down opposite him and whips out a chess board and like....Rhys cannot resist it. He just can’t. Nesta makes one move and it’s like he manages to hold out for a whole two minutes before he snaps and swivels round in his chair to face her properly and within ten minutes he’s completely and utterly engrossed and Nesta is just smirking and looking very pleased with herself. 

YES TO THEM BEING CULTURED TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!! And their partners will go the plays/shows with them but they just don’t ~understand~ (I think Cass is typically.....baffled and Feyre appreciates like musical performances but she’s not as big on theatre or plays or the ballet shows Nesta loves and she doesn’t understand the technical aspects as much?) So they start going together instead and then they go to dinner together afterwards and they talk about it for ages and I think....If you get Nesta talking about something that she loves and is invested in and knows a lot about she. will. not. shut. up. She gets all animated and almost...gushes sometimes and Rhys can be similar in that he just intensely talks about this thing and nothing else and basically on these dinners neither of them really notice what they’re eating and they get home after like six hours and Cass and Feyre are ??? and they’re like ‘what I was only away for like an hour what is wrong?’ 

On the subject of intense talks Feyre definitely ambles into the kitchen at like...two o’clock in the morning because she couldn’t sleep and needed some tea...and to discover the mysterious disappearance of her heat source- uh, mate. As she gets nearer she hears the sounds of soft but very intense and irritated arguing and she recognises Rhys’ voice and Nesta’s and she just sighs because she really thought they were getting on better. Then she actually arrives in the kitchen and realises the two of them are sitting there furiously arguing over the most recent book they’ve read (Nesta and Rhys are part of a book group. It contains two people: Nesta and Rhys. They’re very happy with this arrangement) and Feyre just...smiles a little because at least they’re getting on...and have found someone to channel all of this into. 

HISTORY NERDS. (Amren joins in on this sometimes too but other times she just can’t be bothered at which point she palms Rhys off on Nesta) Listen Nesta would be a total history dork okay, she loooves researching it and I feel like one day she’s just sort of @ Rhys ‘you, you’re old, come here, I have questions.’ Rhys is baffled initially but then completely and utterly delighted when he realises that she wants to talk about history. (I can totally see Nesta writing an account of the war once it’s over btw. And maybe she interviews Rhys and the others about the first war too because I don’t care if you’re immortal you need to write these things down.) 

SCHEMERS IN CHIEF. I just need someone...to use that beautiful brain inside Nesta’s beautiful head okay. Like. The girl is a low-key genius EXPLOIT THIS PLEASE. She and Cass totally plan battle strategy but she and Rhys just do general strategy, war strategy, how to get the other high lords to co-operate, the terms of treaties, exploiting loopholes and closing loopholes and politics. (I don’t think either of them have any patience for more sort of ‘social politics’ and making nice and all that - that’s Elain’s area of expertise) but cunning manipulative courts relations every day politics they’re both like yep we’ve got this. Rhys listening to Nesta and Nesta being a little alarmed because no man has ever taken into account what she thought or had to say before - especially not on these kinds of subjects. But she shares what she has to say and Rhys listens and this is....a novelty. Because someone has found value in her, in her ideas, in her attention to details, in the way her mind works, in all the things that were suppressed in the mortal realm because no, no, ladies don’t need to worry about this sort of thing or were belittled as idle hobbies now they’re important. Now they’re instrumental in the war. Now she is instrumental in the war. And not because she’s made fae and forced herself into the clothes of a warrior but because she’s her. And Rhys can use that. Also, like, if these two start plotting against you you should just...like just move okay? Just leave the country and go somewhere far faaar away it’s...so much easier. 

Also, like, I know we all want Nesta queen of the female Illyrians and standing up to all the camp lords and training them to fight and all that but...consider: Cassian and Mor, now with Feyre in tow, get sorted on teaching the Illyrian females how to fight and training them and all that jazz. But one day Nesta goes to Rhys like ‘okay, but what about just teaching them? What about their education?’ Because not every girl is a warrior and even the ones that are deserve to be properly educated and that is what Nesta is here for. And just...Cass in charge of the girls’ training and then Nesta in charge of their education makes...a beautiful little pair. 

Rhys helping Nesta to control whatever magic she has because he knows what it feels like, having a power you were never equipped to have boiling away inside you, feeling like it might tear you apart, might drive you mad...He helps her channel and hone her magic, helps her to control it instead of the other way around. He helps her to control her emotions as well (though Cass does most of that, Rhys helps) 

Nesta and Rhys (grudgingly) at formal events and parties together and they spend.....the entire time sipping wine and salting those they have issues with/don’t like (ie....everyone) and looking fabulous while they do it. (they bond so much over salt and mutual dislike of people it’s amazing) 

Rhys going to Nesta for advice about Feyre!! Maybe they have an argument or a fight about something and Feyre is...Difficult to read and throws up all of her walls and he doesn’t know how to get through to her and is despairing. Nesta is...Not best pleased that he upset Feyre but...she does admit they’re good for each other and she does know Feyre better than most. She gives him some terse but welcome advice, helps him understand Feyre’s reactions and how best to approach her. 

Nesta going to Rhys about Cassian. Before they’re mated she tentatively asks him what a mating bond is like, what it feels like, why the heck anyone actually wants one (she’s not too sure how she feels about someone with a direct connection to her able to feel things that she does. Her mind is her sanctuary and she doesn’t much care for the idea of someone else being able to rifle through it whenever they feel like it) Rhys explains it for her, carefully explains what an honour it is to find a mate, that it’s a rare and cherished thing...but one that’s her choice, and her mate’s. Rhys sussing out that Nesta and Cass are mates before pretty much anyone else and he helps talk to Nesta who can’t understand why this happened or why fate or the damn Cauldron or whatever else would do this to Cassian and leave him stuck with her. Rhys calms her down and talks to her about it, because mother knows he understands what it’s like to feel like you’re not worthy of your mate - and he still struggles with that sometimes, he admits to her, but it’s worth it.  

I feel like these two would actually talk to each other about their shit (not all of it) but...On quiet evenings when they’re just sipping wine and have exhausted all the history/book/play discussion sometimes little things slip out. Nothing too personal but I think Rhys would tell her about his issues with running the court and the pressures on him as High Lord which he never fully feels he can share with his Circle because...well they’re part of his court, he has to keep them safe too and it can be a bit lonely and isolating sometimes. Feyre helps, obviously, and he talks to her about sort of day to day problems but just the general pressure of responsibility in general he talks to Nesta about. And she maybe opens up a little about her worries of not quite belonging anywhere and Rhys can understand that and just. They have little heart-to-hearts sometimes - the little things that they can’t quite tell anyone else/don’t know where else to put them.

 Star Wars- If you don’t know the story you won’t care. Why bother summerizing when you can rant!

Yep, I still call the first film “Star Wars” or “the original Star Wars”. Look, I’m old enough that as a little girl I saw it more than once in it’s original release back in 1977, and it was just called Star Wars then. It was called that for a long time. Wanna see how much history I had with Star Wars before the rebranding?

When I saw my first academy awards (or actually fell asleep a few minutes in...I was little!) hoping to see it win Best Picture. Halloween and me in a Princess Leia costume Mom made me and then R2D2 on my birthday cake. I saw The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi at their releases, each at least twice. My family had the 8mm cut down film version, then I worked my ass off one summer to buy the films at rental price,  then eventually upgrading to a VHS widescreen set. I’d seen the movies 100 times each before the 20th anniversary, and I know because I counted! The Star Wars Holiday Special (yes, it’s original airing), the fun animated Droids and Ewoks, the so bad I never wanted to see them again Ewok tv movies, tons of making of specials and guest appearances of people from the films. The entire run of the original Marvel comics. I fell asleep to the  music on 8track every night and then during the day I’d play my drums and cymbals to the vinyl soundtrack. (My parents were very understanding! LOL) I’d also listen  to the “Story of Star Wars”record (flip as the tractor beam pulls them in), that Meco disco album, and upgraded  the soundtracks, first to tape and then CD...more than once. I had lightsaber battles so feirce with my brother we had to get new ones to replace the smashed up old ones. My room had several posters and I wore Star Wars tee shirts.  I collected tons of action figures, dolls, plushes, model ships, blasters and the like, right up until the figures went on clearance post Jedi (just found an old package yesterday between books). Too much merchandise to count. I wore my Han Solo vest every day one year in high school, purchased through the fan club I’d been a member of since it started. I read every single book or magazine to do with the movie or spun off it I could find. And through all of it back then Star Wars was still the default title of the first film....

So, as you can tell, I had a long history of just knowing it as Star Wars. Childhood. Teen. Young adult. While the “A New Hope” subtitle was added to the crawl in one of the rereleases, it was just Star Wars when anyone talked about it. I can’t remember now exactly when the rebranding got aggressive, with the anniversary in 1997 or the release of the prequels, but for at least 20 years I only ever heard anyone call it Star Wars.  

When Lucasfilms started to try to make “A New Hope” a thing I kind of rolled my eyes. No one was confused by the film series for Planet of the Apes, The Thin Man or The Pink Panther sharing a name with their first films, so why bother? Now, I can get that after the subtitle got added to the opening crawl that it would make sense technically to make the titling of the films uniform. But I also knew it didn’t matter. It isn’t like it was a person asking you to use another name. The only people that cared were the more obsessive fans that liked to be smug about knowing the “real” title and George BLOODY Lucas. I rolled my eyes and doubted people would rewrite their memories just to make them happy. 

I was wrong.

And so here we are at a time where people mock you if you call it “Star Wars” insteas of “A New Hope” So why do I still defiantly cling to the original title? Because it’s part of the mutilation and rewriting Lucas started doing. I’d been bothered reading interviews when I was a girl where he would contradict himself on the stories behind the stories, going so far as to claim things were “always” intended that reading early drafts showed no mention of. But ok, I knew creation is a process and some people want everyone to think it’s actually just a miraculous whoosh springing out fully formed. And despite the fact I knew full well that other people worked on the films, in the case of Empire and Jedi other directors and writers, I still shrugged it off and gave him the ultimate credit for everything. He was flawed and human, with an ego under that mild exterior, some of what he said was total BS and maybe my brother was right after watching an interview when he said the god of the Star Wars universe had no one anymore to question him...but still I trusted Lucas.

I was wrong.

 Never mind the mind blowingly huge problems with the prequels, my disilusioning started right here, with the Special Editions. Most of the changes were pointless but some actually seemed to damage the films. Take my top three grumbles:

1) Tatoonie should NOT be a rosy pink! Before it was bright clear sunlight, unrelenting hot, parching and desolate, unforgiving...now it’s all pretty, colorful and warm. It reduces the sunbaked heat, but more important the dry barren sense of a colorless place Luke would ache to leave.

2) Han’s conversation with Jabba should not be in this film. I know it was filmed originally and cut for technical reasons, I’ve had a bootleg of it since my first convention, but loosing it was a good thing. Jabba should remain a shadowy unseen threat, someone that wants Han’s hide enough it looms over our scoundrel until the third film. The reveal of Jabba gains power in Jedi because you don’t know the extent of his powers but he’s supposed to be scary and we see him up in a position or authority over the room. Here Jabba looses power by not only being on the same level as Han and seeming smaller, but for crying out loud there is the gag of Han stepping on his tail while seeming completely unconcerned! And speaking of people being reduced...Boba Fett is this mysterious bounty hunter not just some damn henchman to Jabba. What part of mysterious don’t they get!

3) Mos Eisley does not need to me so cluttered up with CGI characters! This is a middle of nowhere planet with a scattered population and a climate many people wouldn’t enjoy. Sure it’s a spaceport but with buildings, many of which are at least partly underground as relief from the environment. The streets actually gain a sense of unease by being underpopulated, giving a sense that people (of whatever sort) could be watching from doorways. Like you could be attacked and no one would notice. But nope, now it’s bustling, so full of effects life that they actually wreck the look of shots by having gratitous critters and droids moving to block us seeing our characters.

Yes, I didn’t mention the Greedo thing. It doesn’t bother me as much as the rest, but you all know that if Lucas HAD wanted to film it that way originally it would have been just as easy as what we got.

Still, I wouldn’t be bothered at all if this was just an alternate version. Blade Runner, E.T. and others have given you a choice of which version to watch in DVD sets. I was sure both versions would stay easily available.

I was wrong. 

Lucas decided that whatever version was his current take should be the only one out there. The DVDs with the original (close enough) cuts long ago went out of print (and in my case the DVDs failed!) so if you want to see Star Wars not going to look at all like my first 100 times seeing it. 

And that’s my problem. Rejiggered versions have become the only version. If out of preference, curiosity or nostalgia you want to see something from before the monkeying around you have to look to illegal means. As far as Lucas is concerned he would like everyone to pretend any prior versions existed. History is rewritten and we aren’t supposed to grumble. All hail the genius of Lucas or some rot and forget anything you saw on screen and anything he said before. And it bugs me because I resent being told to forget

 Retitling the movie, not subtitle but what we are supposed to call it, is just a tiny part of the emperor’s dictates. And my refusal to use that name is symbollic. In fact this insignificant gesture is a bit like something....Now what’s the word?

Ah yes.

Rebellion.

LOL 

But not to worry. My generation will die off eventually. Those that grew up without special editions, prequels, and so forth will die out. In 100 years everyone will call it “A New Hope” and will not even realize anything was ever changed. But for now some of us still remember another Star Wars.......

One last note: I think the double whammy of the SEs and the prequels did something I thought impossible....I fell out of love with Star Wars. I rarely watch it since I only have the SE and when I do I spend some of the time grumpy at alterations I don’t like  and all of it a bit empty. It’s the only time in my life that I’d ever stopped loving anyone or anything. For me usually live cools but the warmth remains to quickly rekindle. When the Force Awakens came out I felt my affection return a bit to the franchise for the first time this century and I thought my love could be reborn. But tonight, rewatching Star Wars, I realized something has been permanently lost. It no longer hurts to watch but the heart has gone out of it for me........

4. Books or movies: Books. Books, I’ve never seen so many books in all my life. Best weapons in the world. But seriously in 2016 I read 42 books - didn’t quite get to my 52 I had hoped for as my upper goal, but far surpassed the 25 I had planned.

6. DC or Marvel: Marvel characters are deeper and more interesting, especially because I WANT to like Wonder Woman but every single writer just changes her backstory and nothing is consistent and I hate that. X-Men are my favorite because it’s embracing difference in an exclusive, bigoted world.

7. X-box or Playstation: I wasn’t allowed to play video games because my parents thought they would make me violent so now I’m WOEFULLY AWFUL at them. But does Wii Lego games count? Because I really like Wii Lego Harry Potter. I know. I know. But it’s actually adorable. I also play Wii Lego LOTR and Batman and Star Wars (but SW one sucks).

9. Night owl or early riser: I do better working at night because I like to have an hour or so to wake up. So if I leave at 9 I get up at 6:30 so I can drink coffee and blink awake and watch a tv show before doing chores and getting ready.

10. Cards or chess: Cards - more for the memories that accompany them and because I’m hellishly impatient for Chess.

11. Chocolate or vanilla: Vanilla not because I’m vanilla but because chocolate can either be overwhelming or when in ice cream doesn’t taste like chocolate? Like why? It tastes like mystery brown flavor and I’m not into that.

12. Vans or converse: Converse for life. Black. With doodles on the white parts. Quotes and drawings. Being a cool kid way past the age I could pull it off (since I never could). I also have a blue pair that I drew the TARDIS on during the DW fanvolution but now don’t wear because they don’t match.

13. Lavellan, Trevelyan, Cadash, or Adaar: I feel dumb. I don’t know what these are. 

14. Fluff or angst: Angsty fluff. Like when the angst drenches your soul and in the darkest moment someone says the right thing that no one in real life has ever said to you and it’s like a sweet sweet salve. 

15. Beach or forest: Forest. I hate sand. I’m stupid annakin. And deep in my heart of hearts I’m still the wolf girl I was at 13 where I wore braces and boys jeans and tie dyed wolf t-shirts and braids in my hair with a bunch of friendship bracelets and wanted to be a psychic dragon rider or be raised by sentient wolves. So in the end...it’d be untrue to my nature (and to my secret shame wolf patronus) to not say forest where I used to dream of running away and finding my true pack.

17. Clear skies or rain: Rain when I have nowhere to BE. If I can stay home and eat hot popcorn and drink cold water and snuggle on a couch under the blankets and put on an old movie or quiet film scores and pick up a book I want to read all in one go. That’s a little corner of heaven right there. But clear skies if I am going out to do something - if I’m doing something stressful and knowing I can go outside after to let the sun drench into the skin of my face and smile and take a breath and get a cold diet coke and congratulate myself on being brave and finishing out.

18. Cooking or eating out: Depends. Depends on how lazy I am and how broke I am and how hungry I am. I like cooking when I’m really hungry because then I can personalize everything to my own tastes and having leftovers I know will be yummy later. When I eat out/order take out I’m eating it all. Don’t be foolish.

19. Spicy food or mild food: Spicy food. Make my nose rain. I once drank a bowl of salsa in a Mexican restaurant. Like in Beauty & the Beast. Bowl to my mouth. Drank it down. My sisters hissed at me to stop. It was so good. So I drank theirs too.

20. Halloween/samhain or solstice/yule/christmas: Solstice, Yule, ***Christmas*** I am so into Christmas. I’m the dumbass that starts listening to carols too early in November. I’m wearing sweaters and sweating. I’m getting my peppermint hot chocolate. I’m the one viciously stalking that Christmas feeling that seems to get farther and farther away the older you get. Because I want it to last forever. I want to make sure my little sisters never lose it.

21. Would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot: Too cold. I’m already hot all the time. It’s hell. And I sweat through my clothes and that’s embarrassing and uncomfortable. At least when I’m cold people feel pity for you. When you’re hot all the time everyone looks at you like a freak.

22. If you could have a superpower, what would it be: Hallucination/Projection. I’d be called “Storyteller” or “Story” and if I wanted you to think you were on a beach in Aruba, you would really see and feel it. I would be able to travel for free, protect myself through a veneer, and never have to harm anyone. And I could taste all food however I wanted even if it was just celery. I could look how I want to look, dress how I want to dress, make my world the reality I want.

23. Animation or live action: Live action. I think the nuances of character actors and their expressions bring something to a film that evokes a sympathetic response in the brain that cannot (currently) be copied in animation.

24. Paragon or renegade: Again. I’m a silly person who has no idea what this is.

25. Baths or showers: SHOWERS. Hot showers. Baths - like tea - are just stewing in dirt. In your own dirt. In a tub where you get to look at your knees and rest your wet head against the hard tile. Ew.

We had a year when my youngest sister turned 11 she had a welcome to Hogwarts party in March, my family surprised me with a Horcrux Hunt 17th birthday Coming of Age in April, and my other sister turned 14 and got a Triwizard Cup party in May. My Mom listens to HP on Audible every night before bed. She can literally quote the first book word for word. We went to HP Wizarding World in FL before it opened on special passes when I was 19. If my mother wouldn’t murder us, our entire family would have matching HP tattoos. I write Marauders book fanfiction for my entire family to read and critique. We have sorted ourselves and own everything in our respective houses (a split R/G family). It’s our dream to go to Leaky Con together. We all have complete uniforms. Not just the robes. All of it. We know all the spells, have played all the dumb computer 2001 games and Wii games and Pottermore before it was lame and basically omg. HP FOR LIFE. (or LOTR).

Sometimes I never outgrew mine, and adults always brush them off without actually taking time to explain why satisfactorily.  50. Who’s your favorite painter?: Claude Monet. 

51. Favourite flower?: Roses (trite) or bluebonnets. 

52. Boots or sneakers?: Sneakers now - boots in fall.

53. Abroad or at home?: Home if I could magically go back in time when “home” was everything I wanted and not a place to visit my mom in my old room with no clothes or friends.

54. Planning or spontaneity? Planning! But occasional spontaneity. 

55. Boxers or briefs? Boxers so that I can wear them as pajama shorts.

56. Hogwarts house? Better be...Gryffindor!
