On Celebrating Errors
Isn't it beautiful? The lovely formatted tables of register and stack contents, the trace of function addresses and parameters, the error message ... it's the most beautiful kernel panic I have ever seen.
Why on earth would I be so excited to see a computer crash? What could possibly be beautiful about a kernel panic?
This kernel panic is well-earned. I fought hard to get it.
This kernel panic came from a current NetBSD kernel, freshly compiled and running on Wrap030, my 68030 homebrew computer. It is the result of hours upon hours of work reading through existing code, scattered documentation and notes, writing and rewriting, and endless compiling.
And it's just the start.
As I've said before, a goal of this project has always been to build something capable of running some kind of Unix-like operating system. Now that I finally have all the necessary pieces of hardware, plus a good bootloader in ROM, it's time to give it a shot. I'm not that great with this type of programming, but I have been getting better. I might just be able to brute force my way through hacking together something functional.
It is hard.
There is some documentation available. The man(9) pages are useful, and NetBSD has a great guide to setting up the build environment for cross-compiling the kernel. There are some published papers on what some people went through to port NetBSD to this system or that. But there's nothing that really explains what all these source code files are, and which parts really need to be modified to run on a different system.
I had a few false starts, but ultimately found an existing 68k architecture, cesfic, which was a bare minimum configuration that could serve well as a foundation for my purposes. I copied the cesfic source directory, changed all instances of the name to wrap030, made sure it still compiled, then set about removing everything that I didn't need. It still compiled, so now it's was time to add in what I did need.
... how ... do I ... ?
This is where things get overwhelming very quickly. There is documentation on the core functions required for a new driver, there's documentation on the autoconf system that attaches drivers to devices in the tree, and there's plenty of drivers already to reference. But where to start?
I started by trying to add the com driver for the 16550 UARTs I'm using. It doesn't compile because I'm missing dependencies. The missing functions are missing because of a breaking change to bus.h at some point; the com driver expects the new format but the cesfic port still uses the old. So I needed to pull in the missing functions from another m68k arch. Which then required more missing functions and headers to be pulled in. Eventually it compiled without error again, but that doesn't mean it will actually run. I still needed to add support for my new programmable timer, customize the startup process, update hardware addresses, make sure it was targeting 68030 instead of 68040 ...
So many parts and pieces that need to be updated. Each one requiring searching for the original function or variable declaration to confirm expected types or implementation, then searching for existing usages to figure out what it needs ... which then requires searching for more functions and variable types.
But I got something that at least appeared to have all the right parts and compiled without error. It was time to throw it on a disk, load it up, and see what happened.
Nothing happened, of course. It crashed immediately.
I have no debugging workflow I can rely on here, and at this stage there isn't even a kernel console yet. All I could do was add little print macros to the locore startup code and see where it failed. Guess, test, and revise.
I spent a week debugging the MMU initialization. If the MMU isn't properly configured, everything comes to an abrupt halt. Ultimately, I replaced the cesfic machine-specific initialization code and pmap bootstrapping code with functions from yet another m68k arch. And spent another day debugging before realizing I had missed a section that had comments suggesting it wasn't for the 68030 CPU, but turned out to be critical for operation of kernel memory allocation.
Until this point, I was able to rely on the low-level exception handling built into my bootloader if my code caused a CPU exception. But with the MMU working, that code was no longer mapped.
So then came another few hours learning how to create a minimal early console driver. An early console is used by the kernel prior to the real console getting initialized. In this case, I'm using the MC6850 on my mainboard for the early console, since that's what my bootloader uses. And finally the kernel was able to speak for itself.
It printed its own panic.
The first thing the kernel does is initialize the console. Which requires that com driver and all the machine-specific code I had to write. The kernel is failing at its step #1.
But at least it can tell me that now. And given all the work necessary to get to this point, that kernel panic data printing to the terminal is absolutely beautiful.

pairing(s): ethan winters x afab gn reader synopsis: ethan can't sleep again. as his doting partner, you reach under the sheets, giving him temporary solace to his nightmares at the village. content: smut 18+ only mdni, soft dom ethan, hand & finger kink, sensual, oral (m! receiving), deepthroat, finger fucking, body worship, pet names, hurt/comfort, events in re8, mentions of trauma, nightmares, scars, stitches & prosthetics. a/n 2: please check out my friend @emilzke's ethan winters x reader work called 'rebuilding' which i absolutely love (she got shadowba-nned so give her some love thanks!) a/n: belated birthday gift to @obsolescent, one of my favourite people on this app! sorry this took so long! ! even if its not your bday anymore, hope you still had a good night lovely! enjoy! also inspired by this art of ethan. ÂŤ 2.2 k wordsâmasterlistâao3âreblogs appreciated! Âť
It all started from a little small talk, quiet reassurances of âhow was your dayâ shared intimately under the privacy of the moonlight and each otherâs eyes until both of you drift into slumber. The bed, in which you rest together when night falls. Two bedside tables, lived in, and for a moment, a sense of normality has returned.
Ethan was restless in his sleepâa side effect from full-dayâs work of software debugs and upgrades that he maintains on the daily. Or perhaps, something more. Something that happened in the village that he spends every minute trying to forget. And despite the passing of seasons, the memory lingers like persistent heat.
His hand fidgets under the covers, shifting fingers up and down in desperation to find yours, as if you might disappear, kidnapped by the shadows of his nightmares and heâs back there again, finding missing flasks, patching you together piece by piece like a detached puzzle. But what heâs actually looking for are parts of himself, that seem to still sit underneath the crumble and debris of the buried village.
âR-RoâŚâ Ethanâs voice hitches outâfrantic, weak.
Through muffled strings of your sleepy breath, you rummage under the sheets to find his hand.
âMy dear⌠Itâs me. Iâm here.â You turn around to lean into the column between his neck and shoulders, made perfect for you. The moment your hands meet, Ethan clasps them tightly, before relieving, loosening in your reassurance. âYouâre okay now. Rose is okay.â
Ethanâs eyes open lightly and just like you promised, Rose is in the cot by your side, gentle baby's breath floating through the air. He brings you closer to his chest, just to nestle into your warmth as he peppers kisses on the crown of your head.
âDid you sleep?â You coo, hands running up his naked torso just to feel them against you.
âA little. Iâll go back to sleep soon. Just need a second.â His chest heaves in front of you, and from what you know about Ethan, his quickened heartbeat will only take a while for him to calm down.
You look up to see him, and find that his eyes are wide awake, simply staring at the ceiling, as if counting sheep to hypnotise him back to sleep. Through lidded eyes, Ethan sees you; and smiles at how you look. His hands move unthinkingly, bringing them to your face before he even realises heâs caressing it, sending a gentle shiver of warmth through your spine.
âAh.â Ethan puts his hand in the air to stop him, chuckling bashfully. âSorry for keeping you up. Get some sleep. You have work tomorrow.â
âIâm awake now.â You grumble, catching his hand in the air back to your face, like a toy stolen from a child. You press his hand on your cheek, keeping him there, which Ethan has no problems with.
His hands are different now, you thought as you run your fingers down his hand, feeling every stitch, bump, and rough texture that ran along the back of his palms before hitting you with the cold knuckle of his metal prosthetic fingers along where his ring and pinky finger should have been.
What used to be the compliment getter for Ethan, through the bruise and burns had lost its natural shine, not even his superhuman healing speed is immune to the scars. But to you, the rugginess simply enhances his beauty. Stitches tracing like a map to a treasure, red patches of scar like cherry kisses gracing along the soft plush of his palms. You love it all.
Those are proof of Ethan's survivalâThat was all you wanted. To hear and feel his presence in the mundane. Side by side with the man you love. But to him, he lost something that day. A part of his soul ripped apart, still underneath the crumble and debris of that buried village.
âDo you need help sleeping?â Your half-lidded eyes canât obscure your devilish glint in your eyes, hand rustling underneath the sheet, obscure him from the view of what youâre about to do to him. His eyes meet yours, staring right back in disbelief, but simultaneously unable to resist what you have to offer for him in this quiet night.
âNow?â He seems to be genuinely considering the idea. âWhat if Rose wakes up?â
âShe won't if you keep quiet.â You bring his hand to your lips to pepper kisses on his hands, slowing as youâre licking the length of each finger. The pain goes away, replaced by lust, but only ever so slightly.
âCan you do that for me?â You pause, waiting for his answer, and he nods surely. âGood boy.â
Wasting no time to help to get comfortable, you dive your head under the covers just to resurface as a lump under the sheet. Ethan clears his throat in anticipation as you tuck your fingers into boxers, removing just enough for his cock to spring up and meet you in the face.
You run your tongue at the tip of his crest, swirling in small circles to tease his precum out of him, in which he squirms, pushing in his legs slightly before relaxing. It was difficult to see where you are in the darkness of the sheets, but you make do, finding where his crest meets his shaft and following it down the rest of his dick to find the prominent vein on the underside of his cock.
When his cock is wet enough to your liking, you meet his tip with the soft seam of your lips, taking his length inch and inch at a time as you tongue around his hardening cock. A low grunt escapes his lips, and you can hear his thoughts fading him as you play with him some more.
He places his hand on your head, blood surging down his body, not quite wanting to hurt you, or accidentally snag on your hair to make it painful.
Thatâs who your husband is, even when heâs enjoying, he would never want to hurt you. Or at least tries not to.
âO-Oh... mâ god, so fuckinâ goo- Nnh.â That is your cue to move in deeper, hopefully to catch him between words and leave him hitching his breath as you finish him under your nose. Your tongue clashes against his dick that only fills your mouth, eventually leaving no room for your tongue to explore him. The bobs of your head become more messy and difficult, and his whimpers only make you even more excited.
âL-Let mâ see you, babe.â Ethan stifles the words out, lifting the covers up, and youâre embraced by the light of the bedside lamp. A glimpse of Ethanâs silhouette and his round beady eyes staring right into your position that exposes you and the hunger you have for him.
With you now able to see, you catch how his eyes snap shut, brows twist in, feeling every single pulse climbing through his body. His hand that rests on your head grows tighter, one that is neither rough or gentle, just a reassurance and consolance of what you are going through. You feel yourself pooling from how lewd it all sounds.
âFuck, how did I get married to someone like you?â Ethan whines, bumping his head into the headboard behind with a light thump, but he doesnât care. You are right in front of him, and heâs taking in the sight of you in with every glimpse of attention he can offer.
The tip of the dick is at the back of your throat. Only now you feel the gag reflexâbut you shut your eyes tightly, holding in a little longer until the feeling surely goes away. This is when you feel his hips jerk up against you, thighs widening to welcome you as he whimpers bitten pieces of your name until his spine shakes from the fervour of affection you have been pouring into him.
âG-Get off⌠Iâm fuckinâ gon-gonnaâŚâ Ethanâs raspy groan erupts through the room, melodious to you, as his hand struggles to push you off, made weak for any movement from how your skilled lips have treated him.
Ethan falls back to the sheets, with one final grunt, unloads himself directly onto your tongue. And you accept, letting your sore jawline hang wide to receive the fruits of your labour. His hand untenses from your head, abandon to the side of him in order to recollect his thoughts.
You reach over the bedside table to retrieve the tissue box in order to spit out his cum for disposal. You roll back to your side of the bed, checking at Rose's slumber, and when you did you bring the sheets upwards, preparing for your sleep.
âGood night, Ethan.â Are your final words creeping a yawn before turning the lamp off.
Ethan pauses to catch his breath for a moment, then wraps his hands around you, coaxing warm kisses into your neck: âHowâd you expect I sleep without tasting you first?â
âIâm on morning shift tomorrow. Need my eight hours.â
âYou sure?â There it was. That sweet voice lined with a hint of mischievous tone. The one you canât resist.
âIâm very sure.â You donât hesitate, because you know it will give yourself an opening.
He runs his hand up your belly, slightly exposed from your lifted shirt, pressing strokes that almost feels like a massage. Ethan seems to know where to touch you every time to untense you. âBy the time Iâm done, youâll sleep like a baby.â
You can be convinced. You can be convinced very much. Especially with how he reaches down to tease you, and knows how your body betrays mind, with how you have wet a patch in your underwear.
âNot very honest, arenât you?â Ethan lets out an amused grin, as if returning the favour of what youâve done to him at his barely awake state. âYouâll still get your eight hours. Iâll make you come in five minutes. Guarantee it.â
You roll your eyes and wave at him to go ahead, but secretly, your clit is pulsing at his forwardness, increasingly eager to let him please you. In which Ethan helps himself, running a teasing finger up the length of your cunt just to stop at your clit, swirling lazy circles which only earn a groan from you that Ethan has been desperate to hear all night.
âEtha-an⌠Hnng⌠B-BabeâŚâ The feeling run into your veins, growing in need, knotting itself low in your stomach. He delivers as he promises with only his nimble fingers, through slick and slurp, explores the depths of you, finding the spot you desire with skilful ease. You let out a soft moan, closing your eyes to feel him filling you with his fingers alone, and encourages him to continue.
He spreads you, adding his second finger now, the cold metal of his ring finger, lacing them on the length of your cunt with practiced ease. The contrast between cold and warm only excites you more. Ethan dotes on your sweet voice, slipping the two curled fingers in and out through a perfect angle that pushes a muffled groan between clenched teeth.
âGod, baby.â He takes that as a sign to continue faster and harder, jamming his fingers until the sound of your slick permeates the air, every muscle clenching at him. âYou like it when my finger fucks you, huh?â
You let the sensation continue, allow yourself to completely give away control to the man you love. Let him take care of you, like you always do to him. Ethan is merely returning the favour. A slight pain enters through his sensitive finger that still aches from a past wound, in which he winces, and you catch on almost immediately.
âY-Your handâŚâ
âShh⌠Just be quiet and feel good.â He smiles, not intending to stop anytime soon. Ethan quickens his pace, before you start squeezing into his fingers, demanding urgency, speed through how your thighs close in, as if that would allow more friction on your naked skin.
You open your eyes now, and all you see is sincerity in his eyes, fixed upon you this whole time to make sure you are indeed enjoying what heâs doing to you. And somehow, that is the one action that tips you over the edge, rippling high moans through the back of your throat as you chase your own high directly between his fingers.
âWow.â Ethan whistles, a bemused grin hanging by his lips as he feels your juices release, spilling on his fingers. âYou came so much.â
Ethan brings his fingers up his lips, admiring his handiwork, dripped in your sweet juices, before putting them into his mouth. He runs his tongue around the sides of his slender fingers, savouring every part of his reward.
âHeh. Told you I just need five minutes.â
âThat was ten minutes, Mr. Winters.â
âMaybe I can beat my record?â Ethan winks, quite terribly, frankly, and despite how his silly charms would normally convince you, this time, you are functioning with five hours of sleep.
âDonât even try, Ethan.â He shrugs, slightly defeated, as he joins you into the cosy embrace of your shared bed.
...
âIn the morning?â
âAre you serious right now, Ethan?â

special treatment âšââĄâ - daniel ricciardo
pairing: reader x compsci!daniel summary: to others, there might be absolutely no reason for you to be spending the night at your nerdy classmate's dorm room, but you know that he's the only one who you trust to check over your code - and look good while doing it w/k: 1k a/n: the brainchild of this late night blurb, the idea was too good not to turn into a fic so enjoy - i love writing my boys being nerdy <333 I LOVE NERDS
"We can't keep doing this. It's late."
"I know."
"Yet you're here again."
"I know."
You pause before continuing your pleading, "I need you, Daniel, you're the only one who can-"
"Get in," his voice comes curt, an attempt to hide the nervous unease he feels as he opens the door to his dorm a little wider for you. You shuffle into the cool darkness of his room - trying not to think of how suggestive this conversation might've sounded to anyone passing by.
If this had been any other day you might've taken a minute to pause and look around his dorm room, satisfying your morbid curiosity to know everything about the mystery you found this boy to be. But it wasn't the time for that, and you had little else on your mind when you threw your bag onto the floor and slumped onto his bed.
"I doubt our head of academic integrity would look very fondly upon one of their top students doing something like this," he mutters, sitting across from you on his desk chair.
"Probably not any better than they would on the top student for helping them get away with it," you challenge back, getting a kick out of the way he seems to squirm under your gaze, eyes darting between you and the floor.
It must've started around the end of last semester if you recall correctly. A couple final assignments, way too many cans of energy drink and a fated late-night library encounter had thrown you into a 'relationship' some might've seen as strange, but you thought more of as resourceful. Before that night, the thought of even approaching the guy you'd only seen leaving lectures early because he understood everything before the professor had the chance to explain it, seemed out of the question - equal parts daunting and embarrassing.
He was a cocky nerd, and there was little more you hated than someone who not only had an ego, but the means to back it up. You'd be lying if you said you didn't resent him a little every time you saw his name on top of yours when the class rank lists came out, but something about the stress of finals week had lowered your guard and forced you to swallow your pride.
"Fine, show it to me." He's so easy to break, you think to yourself as you fling open your bag to grab your laptop. Navigating quickly to the page of code you'd spent the last four hours unsuccessfully debugging, you set it down in front of him.
"Danny, I don't know what's wrong with it, and it's due tonight!" You watch as his eyes scanned the code, fingers moving masterfully as he fixed a line here, edited a call there. After a ridiculously impressive short amount of time, he clicks the program and to your delight, your code runs with no bugs. You're tired enough not to be embarrassed by your squeal of joy, but also awake enough to resist the urge to throw yourself at the man in front of you.
"You're my saviour, you know that?" You resign yourself to this, and it seems to do the trick as you watch him break into a shy smile - which, even in the low light, you can tell is accompanied by flushed cheeks.
"It's nothing," he laughs softly, pushing the laptop back towards you.
You're not sure why he keeps giving in to your begs for help, especially when - to you - you're not giving him anything in return. You've brought it up before, amidst offers for free dinner or coffee or lecture notes, things you'd think no other university student could give up. Yet every time he waves you off with the same content smile. Smart, cocky, as if he couldn't get any more annoying the asshole just had to be generous as well.
"Thank you, I'll get out of your hair now," you say hurriedly, shoving your laptop back into your bag and slinging it over your shoulder - eager to let him get back to whatever it is he was doing before you barged in.
"Wait," he says, and your hand pauses around the handle of the door.
It's silent for a bit, as you turn back to him and watch in fascination as his usually unbothered expression transforms into something you can't quite put your finger on - a strange mix of pain and confusion.
"Are you free tomorrow night?" he finally manages to blurt out.
"No, sorry I think I've got plans with a friend," you laugh awkwardly, still confused as to why this seems like such a big deal to him.
"Oh, alright," you watch his face fall and something in your heart twists.
"I should be free the night after though, what did you have in mind?"
His eyes shoot up to meet yours as he regains a little bit of the confidence you're so used to seeing him sport. "I was thinking I might take you up on your offer, for dinner?"
"Oh, of course, I mean I do owe you for all you've done for me."
"But I want to pay."
"Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of my paying you back?"
"Think of it less like you paying me back and more like..." he trails off towards the end of his sentence, and when you look into his eyes, eyebrows raised, you're quick to catch on.
"A date?"
He gives you half a nod, shy and a little unsure.
"Danny, are you asking me out on a date?"
"If it's alright with you, yes."
You let out a half-hearted laugh of surprise, letting out a breathy "of course."
Relief washes over your classmate's face as he sits back in his desk chair with a sigh and a grateful smile. "See you then."
You nod, a sudden shyness washing over you as you finally make it to the door and return to the harsh white light of the hallway - though now the code you came to ask him about is the last thing on your mind.

This is sort of an indirect addition to this ask maddy got about learning rust, I haven't actually gotten to learning rust yet but I do want to talk about an incident I recently had with python (I think with C the reasons why you'd rather not use it are fairly obvious) So recently tried to implement a basic matrix class in python, and since I wanted to do a whole thing where I did my own implementations of numerical optimization and more general linear algebra stuff, I tried to do it "properly" and make it "robust" and everything, but without installing any external libraries.
And to me, that obviously involved making sure that the matrix is formatted sensibly, i.e. that a matrix contains m rows of n numbers each. This seemed like a very obvious thing you should do in any serious piece of code, since if the contents of a matrix are accidentally formatted in a weird way, then you might get errors, or, significantly worse, python might just decide that it "can handle them" anyways and do some really unintuitive dumb stuff that's really hard to debug. (See this older post of mine for an example of how the pythonic willingness to work with bad inputs leads to really weird unintuitive behavior).
Turns out this is not something you can do directly in python without installing external type checking libraries! And I didn't want to just loop through all the contents and check their type individually during object creation, since that felt incredibly slow, stupid and inefficient. It didnt help that my algorithms theory exam was coming up soon, which meant I was thinking about asymptotic runtimes all day.
And so I was like "well surely at least it's easy to check for a matrix being a 2D array with consistent row sizes". However, at this point, with dawning horror, I came to a realization:
and at this moment I could just feel pretty much all of my remaining "python is easy to work with" attitude turning into dust and soaring away in the wind. If anyone here knows a way to enforce a given argument being a 2D array of numbers with consistent row sizes that doesn't involve O(n*m) overhead during object creation and that can be implemented in python using only internal modules (no external type checkers that need to be installed manually first) please tell me lol

I don't know why CC creators are forcing people to use HQ CC textures (2048x4096)?? do you know how big those are? I make a lot of custom content, and before educating myself I said one time I was like, let me start using and creating HQ items, my output started tripling in size. I created two or three objects and in no time I was like over 8 GB of information just creating HQ textures. You guys are bloating the game for literally no reason.. for pretty screenshots? Cool.. go ahead and do that but you're bloating people's games for no reason literally. This game already requires over 150 gigabytes of free space on a computer. If you use HQ textures and continue adding CC to your game, you need probably over 350 GB of space..
When it comes to creating debug items, like I have a collection coming out that redoes all the frying pans and mixing bowls, those little textures are maybe 128x128, and I will double those to 256x256 and sharpen the image because those are tiny, but to start making and outputting textures that are 2048x4096, that bloats the game for absolutely no reason except to maybe get a pretty screenshot. But then you need probably well over 16 GB of RAM, a very expensive graphics card and over 350 GB of free space to run the Sims. And you're asking people and forcing people to do that with you when you put out CC that is " high quality ". Why? If you want to take pretty pictures in the game or do blender renders in super high quality, go for it to your heart's content. (and at this point you are forcing because 99% of CC creators don't give people the option to download regular textures anymore. Like it used to be a few years ago You could find people offering regular and HQ textures) Forcing people to download textures that are 2048x4096 is evilness, that's all I can call it because a lot of people don't have the wherewithal to know how to de-bloat their games, a lot of people don't create CC, and they're enlarging their files and games unwittingly not realizing that they're slowing down their computer, unnecessarily forcing their computer to work in overtime trying to process all these huge huge CC files. DX11 completely changed the game in my opinion and made it beautiful, DX11 helps your computer run your game a little more smoothly, while increasing the look of the game, almost providing its own g shade filter. And de-bulking the game by putting caps on texture sizes and you're still creating HQ? I have to speak out because I feel so bad for all the computers out there. You know how expensive it is? My dream is to build my own computer, but I haven't been able to because you need at least a good two grand to do that. And you're like at this point putting an imaginary weapon to people's heads and forcing them to download HQ content.. because every single day I see more and more creators switching to HQ because they want the "best rounded edges on their CC" or creating CC to be compared to the next creator because everybody is competing with each other, or they want the best looking CC for a screenshot, not realizing that going up in high qualities and going up in polygon count is excessive and pointless for little pixel people that you don't zoom in on for the most part unless you're taking extremely pretty screenshots.. You're getting sucked in by the beautiful pictures CC creators put on their posts and I get that way too, I will see something and get swept away in it's shock and beauty and I have to tell myself, 'Jessica you don't need that and it's too big of a object to put in your game!' Only a few people realize the importance of low quality, low polygon content and those are probably the biggest creators in the space like @imfromsixam , @peacemaker-ic and @syboubou , @aharris00britney, up-and-comer @valiasimsI , @felixandresims etc.. I know I'm missing people but It's just an example. I just can't stay quiet anymore.

Interests & Hobbies - Update post
Hey everyone!
First things first, sorry for the wall of text!
I know quite a few of you have been wondering about this project, if not been REALLY patiently been waiting for it! That's why I figured I'd make this post.
A bit of backstory:
I have, in all honestly, been working on it for 2 years. Except, that because the mod has SO MANY features, I kept making tiny mods that then get shelved because I wanted to get back to the interests & hobbies mod. But obviously that's part of the mod and... argh! :p You can see how I got stuck in this creative loop. And I would then be happy to just quickly make something like a bus manager, or a RPG manager or a thirsty sims mod or randomly deciding to create a sims website (as you casually do clearly lol). Because that was a bit of an escape for me. Though, this morning, I was talking to someone about this and the mod's progression. How I was just completely thrown out of the creative process and that I just didn't know what I wanted to do...
Basically, out of that conversation the following question came, which was:
So, what have you finished already, then? Given that you've been working on it for so long?
So far, I've done:
Assignment of a hobby lot. Sims of that interest will also visit that lot.
Sims will pursue their hobbies inside their house/garden/lot. (i.e a sim with a gardening skill, will garden their garden.)
Your sims can have an interest and a hobby (duh).
The environment hobby currently has a working hobby challenges.
Getting interested in a field can be done through the phone or computer. (or starting on certain items of that hobby).
Your sim can get magazines of that interest/hobby. This will increase their interest each time they read it.
Learn which interest that sims knows of the other sims. Just like with traits. ;)
A way to make it so that custom content items are considered hobby items as you place them down. And therefore give your sims interest points too.
Certain conversation topics can now be considered interest related conversations.
Which... I know doesn't sound like much, but the *amount* of technical background stuff is absolutely insane :p And that took me more time debugging and error fixing than I've ever done with any of my mods!
So with that said. I want, not only apologise for taking so bloody long to get this mod out of the door, but also share what's going to happen next.
So what now?
As you can probably tell, the basics are (almost) done, as well as the basic mechanics. So, what I think I want to do is the following:
Release the mod this year, with the current features I just shared that are done, and all the other features that were in the document, I'll work on separately. I guess, they function as DLCs for the mod? Or expansions, I guess? :p
That way, I feel less stressed, and you get to give it a try! :) In the end I keep forgetting I'm only one person, and I can finally sleep at night lol
hopefully that's okay with you all!

Cupcraft's Sims 4 Build Requests Challenge
Hi Hi! I have been very Sims 4 build-pilled for the past couple years and you can see builds I've posted on the tag #cup.builds (or by gallery, DispleasedBrick).
Thought I'd challenge myself to do small builds on request but to challenge myself.
I am doing a 2 pack challenge (+ basegame always included).
General Rules:
I won't use any custom content in the build itself.
I can only use packs I own, so if you request a pack I do not own it won't be included obviously (I will make clear what I own!).
Debug & Basegame will be fair game as long as its only debug for basegame or the packs you requested. Basegame will always be included.
I am doing this for free on my own free time so requests won't be quick necessarily and I may not finish them all/take all requests (depends on how many I get really).
How to Request:
Via Ask! Can be anon if you prefer!
Requests I'm looking for in the format of: I'd like you to try to build a STYLE/THEME/CHARACTER'S HOUSE/ROOM/APARTMENT/ETC. With 2 PACKS YOU OWN OF MY CHOICE. So for example "I'd like you to build Gregory House's apartment with everyday clutter kit and seasons" or "I'd like you to build a modern ranch house with horse ranch and eco lifestyle" etc.
You can also request minor terrain/misc things ie "it'd be nice if the home had a pond!" or even "try to include these color palette I like!"
Do not request very large and complex things ie castles, giant manors, things that involve extreme terrain manipulation (Ie mountain house). This challenge I also won't rennovate any townie houses. Not that i would never do a request like that but I want these to be finishable. I will build most houses and styles :). Even something as small as a room or apartment rennovation (not townie house, but apartments are more feasible ie the ones in eco-lifestyle or the highrise in lovestruck).
I ask for now that if you request the everyday clutter kit you are mindful that currently the game is glitched and it is missing 17 items and it has not yet been patched!
What packs do you own so I don't request something silly?
Expansions: I own all of them
Game packs: spa day, dine out, vampires, parenthood, jungle adventure, realm of magic, dream home decorator, my wedding stories, werewolves, and outdoor retreat
Stuff packs: spooky stuff, romantic garden, backyard stuff, vintage glamour stuff, laundry day, my first pet, moschino, tiny living, nifty knitting, paranormal, home chef hustle
kits (of the build ones, cas ones not listedn here): industrial loft, blooming rooms, desert luxe, everyday clutter, bathroom clutter, pastel pop, basement treasures, greenhouse haven, modern luxe, book nook, castle estates, riviera retreat, cozy bistro, artist studio, storybook nursery, and I will be buying on my next paycheck the cozy gamers kit and the bella goth kit (forget the actual name)
Taglist for my everything & sims specific tag list is in the replies :)! Request away!

In the demo build of the game, at the bottom of dungeons deep enough, you'll find a unique object that allows you to summon the train boss I've been posting about over the last couple of weeks. (Ignore the fact that I'm still on floor one, I've spawned in a test one for demonstration purposes!)
I also totally forgot to make the object delete itself after being interacted with until today! So since I was debugging it, I thought I might as well show it off to you guys!
I have designed the boss fight to be beatable when you're at the upper end of the tier 1 content (levels 1 to 10), but it'll also spawn even within the tier 2 sectors (levels 11 to 20) and should still be fairly challenging, especially if you're worn down fighting your way to get down to it. The game is quite open, so depending on how you play it, beating it might be considered the end of the demo.
However, the actual "official" end of the demo is after completing all of the tier 2 research , and you'll get a nice thankyou message instead of the tier 2 capstone research description that would advance you to tier 3. For those inquisitive minds, I'll save you the trouble - even if you managed to complete the research and cheat your way to tier 3 sectors and beyond, there are literally no enemies/items/locations tagged as tier 3 within the relevant databases!
I have a big announcement coming tomorrow, by the way, so look forward to that! Until then, thanks for reading as always :)

Directory of downloads
Since Tumblr is now where I share my stuff when I do share, I suppose there will come a time when scrolling through would get tedious for you, the reader, and Origami suggested I make a directory post to make it easier for people to find what they may want. Great idea, so here we are :)
If you have problems the fastest way to reach me is through discord, my username is gummilutt. You can also find me in the discord server Sims Crafters (click for invite). DM here on tumblr on MTS will also work, but I make no promises about fast replies.
Policy is open, do what you like. A tag is always appreciated, because it is fun to see what people make with your work :)
I do not take requests, sorry :) I am however always happy to give advice on how to make something yourself, in the modding channel on SimsCrafters (invite above). If you aren't interested in learning to make what you want yourself, my advice is to use publicly available forums to post your ideas (Hacks & CC thread on MTS, ideas channel on Crafters etc), and if you are lucky a modder will see it, like it and make it.

This is gonna be in my drafts until I at least get out every design for [Ring-Misstress] so Idk how much time I got-
So yeah I decided that I'm gonna write this AU in chapters so that it makes more sense when I make content about it, and yall can ask about it ig-
This all takes place after the events of the real series (that of which we have yet to see, so anything different can just be part of an alternate timeline)
Without further ado... Let's get to it!!
[R-M Chapter 1: The Relaunch]
Dialog guide:
Narration
*Perfoming an action*
"Thinking"
Pomni
â˘Caineâ˘
°âBubbleâ°
âRagathaâ
Jax
~Gangle~
Kinger
Zooble
Flinally!! After what felt like forever!!! With help from the others, Pomni and Caine found something groundbreaking!! The Games source code! Mostly, everyone was there to look for the exit, but they ended up finding something else...
*sigh* There's nothing here... can we go back now??
Yeah, honestly, this was a complete waste of time...
âCome on now, guys! I'm sure they know what they're doing!â
~Wait, look! They're back out!!~
*Pomni and Caine exit a jumble of One's and Zero's*
It's not much, but I think we found something!! But... I'm just not sure what it is... *She hands a small glitching object to Caine*
â˘Huh... It's... it's a developer's note! I haven't come across one of these in a while!â˘
Wait, what!?
Oh dang, that's right, it forgot this was even a video game-
~What's it say??~
*Silence fell as Caine read the text out loud*
â˘Let's see... "With the noticeable decrease in 'Bugged characters', the game should be ready for relaunch soon!" Oh...â˘
What... does "Oh" mean..?
â˘...huh? Oh yes! Uh, you all know how we have a designated place for Abstractions so that they don't destroy the place... and you?? How you have helped prevent some altogether?â˘
Yes..?
â˘Well I only implemented it after people stopped working on this game. They still think the game is okay to publish!!â˘
And? This is great news!! People play the game, realize we are stuck in here, and then we get help!! What are you yapping about??
â˘That's the thing- If more people, who for one are mostly children, come across this, they won't be able to help, and if worse come to worse, get trapped with us!â˘
âoh... oh my, that does sound awful...â
â˘Normally I'd be ecstatic, but I don't think it would be good if that many more people got trapped at once... let alone kids...â˘
Gee, missing kids in a video game. How tragic...
~Hey!~
â˘Wait, there's something else on here to- a "debugging code??"â˘
Did someone say something about Bugs??
â˘No, far from it... hey... this is a copy of the code for my "Ringmaster powers!" Interesting...â˘
Really? That's what you call em??
â˘Why yes!! What else could they be?? Anyways... now what do we do about this approaching situation of ours...â˘
Well, we're not just gonna have a ton more people in here being watched by one incompetent AI!
â˘... You're absolutely right, Pomni dear! Your little remark had given me an idea that might just work! Now... just how does one copy this...â˘
To be continued...
[Yippee, finally!! Part 1 done!!]
The second part is right here! (As well as the link to Caine and Pomnis blogs!):

The Desert Petting Zoo
DOWNLOAD THE LOT HERE
Please note, we have tried EVERY way possible to get the debug/animals to show up in the designated areas but the only way to do this is to have someone own the lot, which causes it to be residential and therefore cannot be visited on dates. If you have cottage living, you can purchase goats/sheep to place in one's inventory and drag and drop them into the corrals or you can download cc animals here
With the new Lovestruck pack, I have decided to completely rebuild the world of Ciudad Enamorada in my own style. Every Tuesday, we pick a new location to redo while leaving the "bare bones" on the outside, while completely gutting the inside. This lot is part of my complete renovation for ALL of the sims worlds that I am slowly redoing one by one. Tune in every Tuesday on Twitch to watch it live!
>> Please respect my TOU when/if sharing this, recent events have caused an uptick of users violating my TOU and it's been extremely disheartening. Please respect creators.
â¨Â Grab my g/reshade preset used in all of these photos UNEDITED here X â¨
â¨Â I take countless time to only choose and use the highest quality custom content that fits together esthetically and will always bring you immaculate vibes
đˇ Learn everything you need to know about posing here
đˇ Download a handy Mod from Ravasheen to take beautiful photos right into your sims inventory here
Don't forget to find me on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch!
Have a wonderful day!

Calls for Testing
An important step for RFC implementation is for people to experiment with the implementation and give feedback, especially before stabilization.
If you are a feature implementer and would like your RFC to appear in this list, add a call-for-testing label to your RFC along with a comment providing testing instructions and/or guidance on which aspect(s) of the feature need testing.
No calls for testing were issued this week by Rust, Rust language RFCs or Rustup.
Let us know if you would like your feature to be tracked as a part of this list.
RFCs

Hi! Since you mentioned making a cloud override is easy, would you share on how to do it? C:
hi hi yes of course! i replied to cowplant-snacks' message a while ago but i realize responding in the comments to a post is not the best way to maintain a conversation :P
first, it looks like miiko's ghibli clouds were updated for the newest world(s) on curseforge so you could grab it from there. but thankfully it's very easy to do a default replacement! i'll put it under the cut so i'm not clogging up peoples' dashes.
oh, i do all of this in sims 4 studio! so i uh recommend downloading that if you don't have it yet!
first, open up one of miiko's studio ghibli clouds files. you may need to unmerge it in s4s. hit export on the DST image and save it as something you can remember. miiko has them saved as things like cumulus, cirrus, etc. so you can match the cc cloud to the maxis cloud, if that makes sense.
now that you have the image, it's time to create the override! create an override object.
type "cloud" into the search and make sure to check "show debug items." you'll typically get results for things that don't actually show a thumbnail; that's ok! you can hover over the object to check what it's supposed to be. some worlds share clouds so you probably will not see clouds for every world.
hit next and save the override as something you can remember. now you can import the cc cloud image!
don't forget to drop the override in the mods folder when you're done.
if there's clouds you know are in game but don't show up, you can try searching "matte" instead. you can also use the Browse Game Content feature under Tools in the toolbar so you can preview the background files.
i hope that helps!! if there's anything confusing just let me know--i don't think i'm very good at explaining things haha.

Could you make the Ceroba mod configurable if you just want to be friends without romance?
- Aro Anon
I'm going to be very honest here.
I never played Stardew Vally, I only bought this game to mod it, so Im not sure if thats even a thing.
Also I'm using Content Patcher to do this which means I don't have a lot of power over what I can add.
My total playtime on this game is still like 9 hours, most of which was spent testing the mod. I know how to teleport and get items with debug mode but I still don't know how to cook food LOL

The Human Operating System is Flawed by Design
Weâre born into systems we never agreed to.
Before we can walk, the conditioning begins. By the time we speak, the install is complete:
đĽ Obey authority. đĽ Worship money. đĽ Sit still, follow instructions. đĽ Trust the systemâit knows whatâs best.
Itâs like weâre handed a user manual for life before we ever question who wrote it. The problem? That manual is broken. The whole operating system weâre running onâmentally, socially, spirituallyâis outdated and vulnerable. Full of legacy code patched together by centuries of fear, control, and conformity.
We call it âcivilization.â But letâs call it what it really is: a psychological prison disguised as progress.
đ Education: The Factory Settings
The education system wasnât built to unleash potential. It was built to standardize it. A glorified factory line, teaching us what to think, not how to think. Creativity? Discouraged. Critical thinking? A threat. Original thought? That gets you labeled a problem.
But what if the real problem is a system that trains kids to be compliant cogs in someone elseâs machine?
đ¸ Economics: The Master Script
From the moment we learn to count, weâre taught that fiat money is the goal. The American Dream? Just debt in disguise. A game of Monopoly where the board is rigged and the rules change mid-game. Inflation eats your savings, taxes punish productivity, and the people printing the money? They donât play by the same rules.
Itâs not a bug. Itâs the design.
đ§ The Awakening: Rewriting the Code
The most dangerous thing you can do is think for yourself. Thatâs how you break the loop. Thatâs how you start seeing the code. Once you realize everything is a systemâyour thoughts, your beliefs, your âtruthsââyou stop running on autopilot.
You realize: code can be rewritten.
Youâre not stuck with the default settings. You can jailbreak your mind, debug your belief systems, and run a new OSâone rooted in sovereignty, not submission.
And if youâre looking for a tool to help you do that?
Bitcoin.
Itâs more than moneyâitâs an exit door. A signal in the noise. A system that operates outside the rigged matrix, offering freedom instead of chains, transparency instead of illusion.
đŞ The Choice Is Yours
Stay in the simulation, keep following the script. Or wake up, delete the bloatware, and write something new.
The system may be flawed by design. But you aren't.

It's been quiet! So, what's gotten done lately?
Well, first of all I keep writing really complicated novel-length MMX fic instead...which isn't making my other hobbies go any faster...sweats profusely.
But anyway!
Roll can die from taking damage.
Of course, this makes her lose a life.
She'll respawn at the start of a stage...
...Unless she's hit a checkpoint, in which case, she'll respawn from there instead.
And if Roll runs out of lives, you go to the game over screen.
From there you can choose to continue from the start of the same stage...
Or you can go back to the stage select.
(Or, technically, you can quit to desktop.)
So yeah, basic expected gameplay loop functionality, more or less. Doing all this from scratch is a lot more involved than it sounds like, though. There's a perfectly good Game Maker setup for making Mega Man fan games, aaaaand I'm not using that engine so it's basically useless to me and I started from quite literally nothing instead. Figuring it all out by myself instead took a long time and a lot of rubber ducking.
On top of that, Pixel Game Maker MV is, as I've learned the hard way, very tetchy about handling load/save operations, and I couldn't figure out why it was refusing to save checkpoints properly until I figured it out: the version I'm using for my dev environment will only succeed at a single file operation per runtime action. Any others in the same runtime action will silently fail. That was hours of trial and error to figure out why it was failing to write save files, but only about half of them, for no apparent reason. But it's been troubleshooted! Troubleshot? Whichever. It works now! It's actually been a huge hurdle.
All the Robot Master boss music exists, too, which is pretty cool. The first iteration accidentally sounded like John Cena's theme, which was, uh. Funny as heck, but not intended. So I went back and made that not be the case, though that means that the SiIvaGunner joke of remixing tracks to be John Cena's theme and saying they're an alpha version is not even a joke here, it's literal. That is a real thing that happened and I didn't even realize it until someone in the dev Discord pointed it out.
Next on the roadmap is getting individual file save slots functional. Checkpoints and level start actually use save files as well; they're just temporary, and the engine deletes and recreates them pretty frequently to avoid buggy shenanigans. I'd like to be able to display at least basic save file information on each save slot, so I'll need to figure out how that works and what that screen should look like. Games will autosave on the stage select screen, though you can always clear a slot manually to start a new game. Very SNES kind of system.
After that's all implemented and debugged, I can probably start thinking about actual playable content, since that wraps up the vast majority of the UI. Good thing, too, because I actually kind of hate working on UI. 𼲠It's a necessary evil, though, and I think it'll be a pretty alright UI when it's finished. Nothing groundbreaking, but does a classic-style Mega Man game need a groundbreaking menu? I think probably it doesn't, and I can save my energy for the gameplay.
