Sometimes I think a lot about Arthur's old journal, the one he had prior to the game's events that got burned in a fire, and how Arthur went a long time without a replacement.

He wrote that he missed writing and drawing, more than he thought he would.

The journal is a wonderful tool that allows us see through Arthur's eyes and how he deals with things, it's one of his healthiest coping mechanisms, so it makes me wonder what those journal-less months were really like for Arthur.

Whatever and wherever the fire was, the time spent up north in the Grizzlies and travelling down from it, Dutch nearly buying some land but getting spooked by the law, new people joining them, and then the gang spending months in the wilderness before moving to Blackwater - it all sounded like a hectic time. But he never wrote about how he felt, he just wrote about what had happened.

Yet, he said he missed writing and drawing. He missed it. He had the itch to write and draw for ages, but he couldn't.

Maybe he struggled with the chaos of those few months without a journal to empty his frustrations and thoughts into, maybe he saw so many things he wanted to draw and it aggravated him that he couldn't, maybe he was slightly more irritable than usual with everything that had pent up and having no means to release it, and so on.

I just think about it a lot.

Especially if you took the journal out of the main game, you'd be taking out a huge portion of the story and the insights we have into who Arthur is as a person too. It's impossible for Arthur to not write in the journal, even if you never open it. It's a vital tool that helps define him and show us how he moves through the world, how he copes with the world.

So if Arthur had his journal taken away by a fire all those months ago and went a long time without, what would he have been like?

Stanford never became friends with Fiddleford.

Instead he got himself a different small friend group who cares a lot about him. At least about the Ford he pretended to be in college.

A kind, soft spoken formerly bullied genius who researches very dull stuff in Oregon and definitely not anything weird. Their Ford would never break any rules or ignore safety measures [unlike that other student they heard about during their college years.]

And then Ford stops answering their calls and loses his grant. 

It’s time for an intervention and they start pestering Ford with letters and calls until he finally agrees to meet them at a science convention, but he’ll take his brother with him.

They’re relieved! Ford is with Shermie! They like Shermie! It's a good thing that Ford still has one brother who isn't a good for nothing selfish criminal who destroyed his entire future!

If they ever get their hands on Ford’s evil twin they’ll make sure he’ll regret ever messing with their friend. Ford is too nice for revenge. They aren’t.

Meanwhile at the not-yet Mystery Shack, the Stans freshly survived their own angsty canon divergent tale of two stans AU and locked Bill out of Ford's mind like a week ago.

Stan: I don’t know how long Ford will keep me around but this will be good for him. He needs some friends to take care of him after I inevitably get kicked out again!

Ford: I only agreed to this because Stan insisted and I still haven’t found a way to thank him and apologize. I hope all my “friends” die in a fire.

I worked in the morining, but despite feeling very sleepy I did a lot of reading in the afternoon. I finished Powers Of Darkness, the lost Icelandic translation of Dracula, which was very very cool. It was super interesting to read this unexpected version of one of my favourite classics. I also continued working my way through a nonfic book I have been reading on and off for the past couple of weeks. At the moment I am craving fiction books, but basically everything on my physical tbr is either a classic or non fiction, and I am not sure I have the baincells to focus on a big classic at the moment. But I also have in my plans to visit one of my favourite bookshops on the weekend since it recently got a new bigger location, so I need to find a satifying fiction book to fill my need for fiction during the week. I might borrow something from my parent's bookshelves.

Wait Cam and Pal's notes on Nona are all still around somewhere. Unless the Building got burned down or something the tapes and letters to each other are there, the ass joke tally marks are still up, the six pages on Harrow's body kissing the mirror are kicking. Forget Harrow and Kiriona interacting with the gang, we need to swing by and pick those up for perusal!

Kazutora and Keisuke fall in love very differently.

Kazutora falls in love easily and quickly. It's like Cupid himself pointed his arrows at the poor young man and shot at him wih scary accuracy when Kazutora first laid his eyes on you. Loving you is easy for Kazutora; one might even say it's like breathing air or fish swimming. It's natural. It comes easy to Kazutora. Perhaps it comes as a consequence for his need for a safe space, or the want to loved as intensely as he does. Whatever the case may be, it wouldn't take long for you to catch on to his adoration towards you. From him hitting you up whenever he can, to showing interest in your hobbies to inivting you to hang out one on one, Kazutora is not afraid to make you feel loved.

As for Keisuke, love isn't as easy. I like to think of him as a non-romantic; he doesn't seek it out actively, and neither does he fall in love at first sight. Keisuke might even scoff at romace, finding it sappy and boring and perghaps, even unrealistic. Sure, he'd die for his friends, but romantic love surely wasn't in the books for him. Or was it? For him, love is like building a ladder. First comes, you become an acquaintance, then a friend, eventually a best friend before he falls for you. It will take him some time to realize his feelings, and even more to confess. Though, the fear of complicating and ruining a good friendship might linger in his mind before he gets his act together, the need to come clean will overpower his doubts, especially when he thinks to recognize your subtle ways of affection as a confirmation of your reciprocal feelings.

Gonna say something controversial.

Ford Pines is a nuanced character who is neither good nor bad. Absolving him of his crimes is actively a detriment to his character and does a disservice to the storytelling of Gravity Falls, but defining him exclusively by his mistakes without taking the time to understand him is a purposefully bad faith take that actively makes your enjoyment of the show worse.

He is neither a good or bad person, because "good" people and "bad" people aren't real. There's just people. And people fuck up sometimes.

If no one fucked up and if no one held onto those fuckups sometimes out of sheer desperation, the world of fiction would be way more boring, unengaging, and dull.

Ford Pines is a mess and I don't want him to be sanitized or demonized. I just want him to be a mess.

Been playing Pillars of Eternity all week and decided to try to keep a journal of interesting moments, since it turned out to be pretty fun when i did it with fallout 1. It's a much longer game so this is gonna take a while but here are my favorite pages!

What did/do you like about Pharah?

Uh, gameplay-wise, I really love characters in shooters who rely on three-dimensional movement techs. Chaining together hover and jump to stay in the air for as long as possible and keep momentum is so satisfying, and picking enemies off from the sky made me feel like a bird of prey. I was a good Pharah main.

Story-wise, there unfortunately isn't much to canonically go off because Pharah is so underutilized and neglected. Her personality's pretty boilerplate "heroic hero" (she's literally inspired by Captain America).

But it's the crumbs/bits and pieces that I really latched onto. Pharah's a confirmed lesbian; her short story with Baptiste implies she harbors a crush on Mercy (fucking thank you.). She's biracial Egyptian/First Nations. She has major mommy issues, having grown up both admiring and resenting Ana. She's the bridge between Old Overwatch, inspired by the idealized heroes who surrounded her childhood, and New Overwatch. She's one of the only inter-generational characters in the cast; someone whose experiences span the gap, which is why I seriously believe Pharah would make a great main character.

There isn't much to go off of, though; she's a very uncomplicated character (she's a soldier for a private military corporation, lol.). But that just means she's a blank slate character, so I've seen fanfic writers run wild and create some really interesting takes on her. My favorite interpretation of her's a dense, herbo gym-bro type (a lot of her liens are about work outs, exercising, and playing sports) who's easily excitable under her seemingly self-serious, armored visage. We see how she tends to gloat and hype herself up when she's on a streak too, so Pharah definitely has a competitive and boastful side under her more professional and militant performance.

Now Mercy? Mercy is a real complex character.
