Friday Update!
Ok, let's talk about the Anthology Workshop. This conference is put on by WMG Publishing and is run by Kristine Katherine Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith.
Before the conference, all of us writers were given a series of calls for submission we could write for. Each one had some specifics on the genre and we were told the editor for each anthology, which means if you know the editor, you can write to their interest. The call is issued on Monday and you have until Sunday to turn in a story (yes, one week) per the guidelines. 6 calls, 6 weeks in a row. Most of these were 2-8k, a few had up to 12k for worldbuilding.
1: Ghostly Taverns edited by Mark Leslie Lefave
This anthology is a cross genre collection of haunted taverns. Ghost patrons, ghost taverns, haunted beer, etc. I was unable to write for this one due to a conflicting deadline.
2: Cozy Mystery edited by Chris York
This call specified the mystery had to be set at the beach, but try not to write a downing, that's really common. I wrote a mystery from the POV of a pet rat and sold this story!
3: MilScifi edited by Kris Rusch and Loren Colman
The wordcount for this call was a bit longer to give room for world building. I wrote a short story in my Queenships world. No sale.
4: Scifi Mystery edited by Kris Rusch
This deadline also conflicted with another I had and I was unable to write for this call.
5: Fantasy Regency edited by Anthea Sharp
The regency call was tough, I don't consider myself a historical writer. But my Act Of Piracy series is set right in the Regency time period and I've been meaning to get back to writing book 3. I wrote a scene I know belongs in the book. It was on Anthea's maybe list for a while, but ultimately another author's story was selected. No sale.
6: Halloween Hearts (spooky and romance) edited by Ron and Brigid Collins
This story I felt was the weakest of the 4 I wrote. The romance wasn't strong enough. No sale.
But Tami, you say, you announced 3 sales, not just 1.
Indeed I did. because while the editors for these anthologies had first pick from the submissions, Dean was also there selecting stories to publish in Pulphouse magazine. This is a closed market, invite only, and the anthology Workshop is one of the few ways to get a story in front of Dean for consideration if he doesn't already know you and your work.
So while Anthea passed on my Regency story, Dean purchased it for Pulphouse Magazine.
My final sale happened after the end of the workshop. I went to lunch with a bunch of friends, one of whom is an editor for her own series of monster anthologies: DeAnna Knippling. I didn't sell my Halloween story during the conference so over the lunch discussion, she laid claim to it.
So my final results:
Cozy Mystery (under my ST Lynn penname)
Fantasy Regency (very gay, bonus monster) for Pulphouse
Halloween Monster to DeAnna
I'm overjoyed with these results. You can't go into this conference expecting to sell, but it's always a learning experience to see how the decisions were made that got to the final results of sale/no sale.
I received great feedback on my MilScifi story and I took extensive notes throughout the conference. I have an opportunity to re-submit for the MilScifi and I'm going to. That's due at the end of the month.
By far, the most valuable aspect of this conference is the meetup in the evening after dinner, where the editors and the writers mingle and talk shop until midnight.
These anthologies will be released initially through Kickstarter (then later, wide on all stores) over the next several months. Once they've been released I'll be able to sell reprint rights to other markets.
I'm already signed up to attend this workshop again in 2026.

The BS going on over at Kindle Unlimited has me completely rethinking my publishing plan (aka being a hybrid author) just as I settled into writing with the goal of doing it full time.

« Muddied blood fills the rivers
forcing even those of ice to shiver
look not for dull scales
though from mud comes the wails
Four dragonets will rise to power
before a final acid shower
dirty blood will rise to fame
a new territory here to claim »
“Mako, what is this?” Flourish asked in confusion, the bright blue and rather lanky dragon was staring at the tattered scroll, a face of confusion.
“Uh..” Mako murmured, looking to the ground sheepishly. She was shorter and rounder than the bright dragon before her, and her dark scales were helping her blend into the shadows she so desperately wanted to crawl away and hide into. She was always a terrible liar, and even worse at hiding what she wanted to lie about. Her nightwing father blamed it on her seawing side.
“Mako!” Flourish repeated, urgently this time. She turned quickly, pushing the paper into the other’s chest. It fluttered pathetically to the ground, landing on the dark talons below. “Cause it sounds a lot like one of your prophecies again!”
“It’s nothing!” Mako complained as she lowered her head, her frilled tail swiping the tattered page into a pile of similar tattered pages. “I told you, those things get stuck in my head until I write them down! It drives me bonkers, actually.”
“Okay well usually they’re something like ‘oogly boogly wow, dinners gonna be a cow, yay-“
“None of them have ever said ‘Boogly’!” Mako interrupted with a wrinkle in her dark snout.
“My point is-“ Flourish interrupted in return, huffing, “-Why does this sound like an actual prophecy and why was it hidden in a pile of scraps?”
“Because… It’s weird. It’s nothing like my other ones…” Mako mumbled dejectedly, her wings folded right at her sides, fiddling and fidgeting. “I doubt it’s one that comes true,”
“Even the ones about dinner are always true!” Flourish exclaimed with a flick of her tail, her scales flickering a mix of colors she was clearly trying to hide. She was concerned. Why was this so weird? Why was Mako acting like this? Why now?!
“Well- yeah! Cause they usually hunt for whatever they say!” Mako retorted, growing nervous with the raised voices echoing in the room. A dull ache was beginning to gnaw at the back of her head. Something about claws. Jaws? Brawls?
“Yeah but your writing always comes true! It’s when we know to prepare for injuries all the time! So what makes this one wrong? What does it mean? Are we in danger? Are we going to get land?” The questions were practically pouring from Flourishes mouth as the practically neon dragon began to pace the ground. She didn’t notice the others discomfort until the dark dragon rather suddenly pushed past.
Mako awkwardly scrambled toward the slab in the corner, a groan rumbling from her throat as she held her head. She dipped her claws into the slowly drying ink spills nearest and began to scratch into another opened scroll.
« Within each tribe, claws will sharpen
blood will spill before three moons darken
Only end in sight to see
each queen gives territory
Acid will burn
Fire will spill
The darkest night churns
Under a new queens will »

Teehee don’t think about Zoro going absolutely feral for you the first time he gets a whiff of your slick; your scent in its most raw and condensed form. Don’t think about the way his veins pop in his neck as he strains to hold his composure. Or how he already feels his knot swelling and his canines getting sharper by the minute. Or how he stands over you so big and imposing; not trying to intimidate you but also loving the way you whimper beneath him. Don’t think about the way he would pull you close, and aggressively but slowly and sensually lap at the gland in your neck like he wants to savor it. Like he want to take a bite of the forbidden fruit. Most DEFINITELY don’t think about the velvety growl that spills out of his chest when he grunts your name. >:))))))))))

Ngro Red Riding hood au
Where innocent lil Reo is on his way to deliver shit to grandfather but crosses into wolf hybrid territory during mating season and is almost attacked by adult wolves. Luckily a bigger but younger wolf hybrid chases off the others for him.
Reo repays the wolf by sharing some of his treats with him and just like that he has his own guard wolf through the forest until one day Nagi doesn't appear.
Reo searches him out to find out Nagi is having his own rut late and without a partner.
Reo the curious vixen that he is seeing his treasure in such a state volunteers to help him through the process, not quite knowing what's he's getting himself into.
To say the least, he got to his grandfather's house very late that day.

This week Emmu reads Harry Styles Plays with Kittens While Answering Questions (AO3 | Fic Post) by @sadaveniren.
“Are those the kittens? Can I see them now or do we need to wait for me to be on camera?”
“You can see them beforehand. We have them in a little playpen,” Louis stepped in, finding his voice somehow.
He lost it as soon as Harry looked at him and it made Louis swallow. “That would be great yeah. Louis, right?”
Louis nodded and took Harry’s hand to shake it. His ears ducked just a bit, because he was so nervous and he knew he shouldn’t be. There was nothing truly different about Harry than any of the other celebrities Louis had met with, but then there was one hundred percent a difference. Harry was a cat hybrid like Louis and that… that meant a lot. For Louis personally.
aka Louis runs a Youtube channel and Harry is his celebrity guest

NEW FROM FINISHING LINE PRESS: Thread: A Memoir in Woven Poems by Janet McMillan Rives
On SALE now! Pre-order Price Guarantee: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/thread-a-memoir-in-woven-poems-by-janet-mcmillan-rives/
In Thread: A Memoir in Woven Poems, the author reveals connecting filaments of nature, place, family, and friendship over her lifetime. From a “Snow Day” in childhood to years living “In Paris” to the “Blaze” of a southwest desert to being “Called to Stay” in the Midwest to finally moving “Ahead” into retirement, she weaves prose narrative through her #poetry. These #hybrids capture the transitions of life in a lyric tapestry.
Janet McMillan Rives resides in Tucson, Arizona. She was born and raised in Connecticut and spent most of her adult life in Iowa where she retired as professor of economics from the University of Northern Iowa. She has published her poetry in many journals and anthologies and is the author of two chapbooks—Into This Sea of Green: Poems from the Prairie (Finishing Line Press 2020) and Washed by a Summer Rain: Poems from the Desert (Kelsay Books 2023).
PRAISE FOR Thread: A Memoir in Woven Poems by Janet McMillan Rives
This refreshing memoir weaves poetry and prose into a tapestry depicting a childhood of wonder and joy bound to the days of “our long and lucky lives,” as Janet McMillan Rives can write now. With chapters moving around in time and place, with lines of poetry that sharpen the focus, she takes us vividly into what the child once saw as a cathedral of trees, to explore memory and beauty and poetry itself, to discover the connections threading past to present. In that green cathedral, the child wonders what friends and details and experiences she will remember when she’s old. This tender, lyrical book is the answer.
–Meg Files, author of The Beasts.
“Only connect!” wrote E.M. Forster. “Live in fragments no longer.” Janet McMillan Rives exemplifies this calling. “I remember connections,” she declares, and it’s true. Rives’ recollections are painterly. She shows us “blue green agave, muted orchid skies at sunrise, subtle pink reflecting off the mountain side, cool cloudless azure skies.” But the thread that securely binds together this hybrid of memoir and poetry is Rives’ “open-hearted, open-minded” capacity to connect—with history, place, and most of all, people, especially her readers. “There is no one left in my circle who lived through these moments with me, no one with whom to share. So I write,” writes Rives. And—lucky us!—we read. We connect. Thread widens the circle of the writer’s life to welcome and include anyone fortunate enough to become interwoven with this honest, lyrical book.
–Rachel M. Srubas, author of The Desert of Compassion, The Girl Got Up and other books.

human!dagger rewrite of Hunting Lessons is officially complete letsgo. technically i did it last night but i wanted to proofread today once i had ykno. slept. which is a good thing bc i actually found a couple details i missed. only one part of a scene had to have substantial changes made to them but even then it's just flipping some of the dialogue and character actions. 99% of the original plot is still intact ^-^
