Pairing: Carlos Sainz x girlfriend!Reader

A/N: I tweaked it a little bit, but this was really fun to write.

You stand in front of your boyfriend's house. A little bit excited, but mostly daunted.

Your boyfriend, Carlos Sainz is an F1 driver from Spain.

You think about the time you first met. You were an F1 journalist for your magazine and when you interviewed him for the first time, sparks flew. After that, you both were inseparable.

But his family doesn't think so. You've met them in bits and pieces- just shy hellos and goodbyes, and they've always judged you.

Or so you think.

This is the first time officially that they've invited you for dinner. And that is why, you are daunted.

You don't want to mess it up, you don't want to sound stupid and definitely don't want to sound like a golddigger.

Of course you can't tell this to Carlos. He offered to pick you up but you refused- saying you could drive from the hotel to his house. You ended up getting lost on the way and being an hour late, for which you've apologized profusely and brought some wine on the way as a thank you.

You take a deep breath in.

You got this.

You ring the bell, and wait. You can feel the sweat trickle down your makeup laden face, it's so hot and also you're super nervous.

The door opens to reveal Carlos.

“Y/N! You made it.” He gives you a peck on the lips.

He walks you inside to the dining area, where everyone is sitting, waiting for you.

There's his dad, mom, both his sisters, their husbands and his cousin along with his wife.

You wave a shy hi.

“Hello, dear,” his dad comes up and hugs you. His dad really adores you, because he's seen you taking interviews.

His mom, and sisters, not so much. They wave a polite hello and go back to their own world.

You feel a little hurt. Carlos doesn't see it, or if he does, he pretends to ignore it.

“Come sit with us,” his cousin Carlos, tells you.

“How're you finding Madrid so far?” He asks you.

“Great,” you reply.

“Mi amor, here's some wine for you.”

You take the glass from Carlos gratefully.

“Everyone, let's have dinner,” his mother says.

You all line up in front of the table.

Everyone lines up at their seat and you're confused as to where to sit. There are two chairs empty but they're not next to each other. You stand there awkwardly as Reyes, his mother, goes to the kitchen.

“¿Por qué incluso la ha invitado?” His sister, Ana whispers. But she's standing so close to you and you hear it.

What they don't know is that you know a little bit of Spanish.

“Chicas, no sean tan groseras.” Carlos replies back as he sees your expression.

He whispers something in his cousin's ear and his cousin empties the seat next to Carlos.

“Let's sit, mi amor.” Carlos gestures you and you follow his movement.

Blanca rolls her eyes. Reyes comes back from the kitchen and looks at you, sighing.

Dinner is lively. You're mostly talking to Carlos and his cousin's wife, and sometimes Carlos’s dad pitches in.

Suddenly Carlos starts coughing.

“Carlos, honey, are you okay?”

He nods.

“I'll get you some water,” you hurriedly get up and go to the kitchen to get some water. Reyes follows you.

“You didn't have to get up, love,” she says, as you're standing in the kitchen trying to figure out where the cold water is. Reyes opens the fridge and motions you to follow her.

Her expression is soft, almost apologetic.

You give the water to Carlos who mumbles a quiet ‘thanks’.

“So tell me, Y/N,” Ana, his sister, pauses, and takes a sip of her wine, “how did you meet Carlos?”

Both of you smile. You stare at each other and you nod at Carlos to take the lead.

His dad and cousin are smiling too. They've heard this story a million times.

“So, Y/N, had to interview me at the hotel, but as always, she couldn't figure out which room to go into so she ended up somewhere else and I was somewhere else.”

You laugh.

“He waited around 15 minutes for me and I rushed in, frantically apologizing for being late.” You continue.

“I was smitten the moment I met her, it didn't matter whether she was late or not.”

Carlos puts his arm around you and kisses you. You blush a little.

“She's been my support through and through,” Carlos continues.

You remember the time when you had been with him during the surgery. Taking out time from your job was a little tough, but you made sure to be there for him whenever time allowed.

“And you've been mine,” you respond back, smiling.

Anybody can see how much you both love each other.

Dinner ends. You're helping to clean up. Ana, Blanca, Reyes and you work in the kitchen silently.

“Thank you for inviting me,” you say, breaking the silence while handing Reyes the plates as she puts them in the dishwasher.

“You're welcome, sweetie.” She replies.

“So tell me, Y/N, how's your job going?”

“Amazing. I love travelling, the interaction, and of course, spending time with Carlos. My job is too demanding, but worth it.”

The way you speak about Carlos, the way you say his name with so much love and compassion- both his sisters can see it.

They smile at you.

“We're glad you're here,” Ana speaks up.

You frown, remembering her initial statement but you've decided to forgive her. She's just being protective of her brother, that's all.

“I'm glad too,” you smile at her.

Meeting a significant other's family is quite challenging, especially when it's someone famous. You're not sure what is there in store for you but you're happy that Carlos is by your side- and hopefully his family too.

Understanding Lennon McCartney Rewatch Part 4.1

This is embarrassing but I'm actually so obsessed with the first five minutes of this episode that I've got it bookmarked in my YouTube account. It's just so perfect!

“Say you don't looooove him, my salamander. Then why did you neeeeeeed him? Ono don't answer.” He genuinely thinks need and love are the same and I really hope he's got therapy for that messed up mindset by now.

Officially honored as the most successful musical composer and recording artist of all time. That damn well better be mentioned in his movie. And people still don't take him seriously. But also. John definitely smashed his TV.

I'm screaming. I love Linda the promoter so fucking much!! Interviewer: I knew a lot of your records had went gold and platinum and– Linda: a lot of them? All of them! Ugh I wish she was still with him now.

And then THIS! “What really happened between you and John?” As the first notes to “I Will Survive” play. It's too good. Everyone has to go watch that bit right now.

Linda coming in for the kill again with her fake posh accent: critics? Critics? Oooooh! … They're always three years behind.

Look at him (to the tune Bitch by Meredeth Brooks) he's a whore, he's a father, he's a star, he's a success, he's a lover he's smug, he's laughing, he's having fun, he's working hard. He's everything.

Interviewing Wings concert goers and this one girl goes, "oh I just got off on all of it" and another one goes “It was great, i came twice!” Literally it should've been me!!!!

The McCartneys are seriously such a big family. And it's been Paul's responsibility since was about 21, really, to make sure they're all okay financially. That Francie story of him crumbling in the street in Liverpool haunts me.

"Why shouldn't they go to the same school as everyone else goes to?" State schools should be the only legal schools btw.

I love what the creator does to contextualize their songs by pairing them with other contemporary footage. It makes it much easier for me to understand why something like “arrow through me” (which I love but none of the people I've shown it to do) would've been so popular.

Oh here we go again. Just show us the marriage certificate already.

Cackling at the contrast between “Old Siam Sir” which is one of my all time fav rockers and footage of the Stones being cringe AF and Dylan being so beyond done he's basically dead.

Oh. Okay. And then they slap us in the face with John's poor baby late 70s demo voice crooning, “Don't want your looooove. Anymore.” “I die each time I hear your name.” I'm fine. It's fine. I'm just vomiting my guts out because I'm sick. That's why.

The pairing of “Mr H Atom” with Paul's would've-been drag show is genius, but what is that clip of some sort of trial stuck in there? If anyone knows, please inform me. (16:15)

John sounds so sad talking about the “endless search for . . . Scotland . . . Within an hour of New York.” I can't help thinking of the Mull of Kintyre. But John was also the one who turned Paul on to Scotland in the first place, ≈always waxing poetic about the heather and the hills≈.

Sean is so adorable. Reminds me of my little guy a bit actually.

Why do I always want to tell Paul to be nice to John? John is worse to him. Idk maybe because John's pain is more visible.

The Innocence of an Outlaw [Dutch]

A/N: I'm back! After what, a year or something? I don't really know what happened, or why happened, but it happened. Um, I finally played RDR2, after procrastinating, of course. But now I'm obsessed with these stupid little dumb gay cowboys. Without further adieu, here's a short Dutch Van Der Linde thing.

Desc.: Downtime with Dutch starts pretty uneventful until he remembers that his darling isn't a smoker. In his eyes, hilarity ensues; in yours, pain and coughing.

Dutch- innocent outlaw 

Life in the gang was never easy. The downtime was rare, but that’s to be expected. Somebody always needed him or needed a hand with something; which you usually were chosen to help with. After all, Dutch Van Der Linde’s partner is never exempt from carrying their own weight, at least that’s how you saw it. 

Despite how popular it is, you were never a smoker, nor a drinker. It was something you simply never took nearly as much pleasure in as others. Both activities burned, and one made you less aware. Dutch, on the other hand, can almost never be spotted without a cigar in hand, or a bottle of surprisingly pricey bourbon or whiskey near him. He almost never got drunk, but that’s not to say he didn’t enjoy a drink every so often.  

On this rare occasion where you have him all to yourself, you and Dutch sit in his tent at Horseshoe Overlook. It’s a pretty place, and if you were being honest, maybe even a little nicer than the west. After the whole mess in Blackwater, it was refreshing to move east. A relief, even.  

He sits next to you, one hand sitting idly on your thigh, his thumb caressing the fabric of your clothing. As per usual, rings adorn his fingers, thick gold rings. Something about the way they looked on his callused fingers drove you wild.  

“You know…” Dutch starts, taking a long drag of his cigar, “I’m so glad you’ve stuck with me through all of this. Through Blackwater. They say someone shows their character in a time of panic or need, and you’ve proven yourself to be real’ trustworthy. I appreciate your faith in me.” He speaks. Curse his silver tongue, the way he makes you swoon with every word that comes out of his smoky breath. Every time you consider leaving the outlaw life, he drags you back in with his words, his charming looks and his rich voice keeps you anchored to him. The way he spoils you rotten when he gets the chance and ignores you right after.   

Thank you, Dutch... you’re too good to me.” You mutter, leaning into his warm body, one arm snaking around his waist. “Do you want a puff?” he asks, holding his cigar out to you.  

You furrow your brows, slowly shaking your head. “No thanks, you know I’ve never been much of a smoker.” You say, slowly closing your eyes.  

” Oh?” he asks, quirking a brow, as if your words surprised him. “Go on, it’s an honor. The amount of times Sean or Arthur have asked for a drag off me... they’d be jealous, you know.” He says softly, grabbing you by the hips and pulling you into his lap. His cigar hangs from his mouth, tendrils of smoke curling into the air and wafting up into your nose. Almost everything that resides in Dutch’s tent has cigar smoke in it, permeating any material. Leather, cloth, metal, it doesn’t matter.  

“Alright, alright, I give.” You say, reaching for the cigar, but he takes it from his mouth and moves it away.  

“Hold on now, allow me...” He says, one side of his face quirking up into some sort of grin. “Open up.” He says, and you obediently oblige.  

He adores the way you listen, the fire in your criminal heart burns everyone but him. To Dutch, you’re but a wood stove, contained and comforting. He puts the cigar to your lips, resting one hand right beneath the back of your neck. You inhale the smoke- rookie mistake. Immediately it burns your lungs and throat, and you start hacking and coughing, curling over yourself. 

Dutch quickly pulls the cigar away, a chuckle coming from his lips, “you’ve only ever smoked cigarettes? You don’t inhale cigar smoke, it’s different.”  

Of course, he would know that 

He passes you a cup of water from the crate beside his cot that acts as a nightstand. You eagerly gulp it down to soothe the burn. Dutch rubs your back while you hack and cough, tipping some of the ash from the cigar onto the floor.  

“I hate to make light of your pain, but I think it’s adorable how inexperienced you are... such a ruthless outlaw, but a cigar can topple you...” He teases, lacing his fingers through your hair. He tugs softly, not enough to hurt, just enough to make you jerk your head up to look at him with teary eyes.  

“You’re fine. Just watch me.” He says, putting the cigar to his lips. He lets the smoke sit in his mouth for a moment, before slowly blowing it out, a plume of smoke coming from his mouth. “See?”  

You nod, finishing the last from the water cup. “Yeah. Can I try again?” You ask, reaching for the cigar.  

“Of course.” He once again pulls the cigar away from you, taking another slow drag from it. He puts one hand behind your head and pulls your face close to his, pressing his lips to yours. Of course, you kiss back, even as he slowly blows the smoke into your mouth as you absentmindedly get a little more comfortable in his lap.  

Dutch slowly pulls away, placing his index finger on your lips. “Just taste the smoke for a moment, no need to rush.” he croons softly into your ear. He revels in the way you choke down coughs; just for him. “You’re alright, doin’ just fine there... alright, now blow.”  

Slowly, you let the smoke flow from your mouth, right in his face, out of spite. He fans away the smoke with a hardy laugh, “you did it! With my help, of course.” He comments, giving you a smug grin. He’s enamored by the way you cough again, some of the smoke you’d just blown out reentering your mouth. His thumb rubs against your chin and on the side of your lip lovingly. You can’t quite pinpoint if it’s because you have something on your face or if it’s because he’s simply feeling affectionate. Either way, the attention feels nice. His warm callused hands upon your dirt-smudged face. “You’ll get used to it... trust me, I much prefer a pipe to cigars, but I left my old pipe in... Blackwater.” He mutters the dreaded city name underneath his breath, avoiding your gaze as he huffs softly.  

“Why don’t you buy another one? I’m sure Saint Denis has some ‘real nice pipes. I’ve seen the ones- men in those big top-hats, they have these pretty mahogany pipes.” You suggest.  

He simply shrugs, “I have, none of them feel quite right. The last one fit my lips perfectly.” He recalls. You swear you could see drool coming out of his mouth. This man was a tobacco fiend, that much you knew.  His hands absentmindedly caress your thighs, his fingers kneading, like an affectionate cat.  

"You owe me a back massage."

"For oh-so-generously offering you a drag from my cigar?"

"From not telling me you're not supposed to breathe."

"Fine."

I'm finally home from 10 days of traveling so I can post that

Dallas Fan Festival was last weekend!!

It was so much fun! 😭 I got to see Andy Serkis again and hangout with some of my dear friends (who are also some of my beloved mutuals 💕🥰). We all got autographs and to torment each other in line—some of us (me) more than others. 😇😈 We also got a group photo with him, which I absolutely adore! It's one of my favorite photos ever. He was SO excited when we all swarmed him! We all look so cute and he has a massive grin on his face.

(During the photo, I also rested my hand directly between his flexed shoulder blades and THE MUSCLES ON THAT MAN, DEAR FUCKING GOD, Y'ALL 🥵 trying to MURDER me)

I had him sign the covers to Pandaemonium and The Accused 😍🥺 He was thrilled about Pandaemonium and said he really liked that movie. I told him I have a degree in English Literature and Poetry (which he seemed very impressed by 😎 My degree finally came in handy lol), so I really liked it as well. That it meant a lot to me to have a movie actually about poets—even moreso because he was in it. AND I finally got his signature next to Liam Black 🫠 There isn't a lot of open space on the cover so he wasn't sure where to sign it. I said, "We might have to sacrifice Sean Bean's head." He chuckled and, in a fake serious voice, said, "Sorry, Sean." HE'S ALWAYS SO SWEET AND LOVELY AND WONDERFUL 😭🥹

Sunday we went to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas because they were playing Blue Whales: Return of the Giants. Which is a documentary on blue whales...narrated by Andy 😂 The lady checking our tickets said she liked our shirts because of course we rolled in there representing. (The documentary opened with him going, "Can you hear that? Can you feel that?" And we were all Very Normal 😌)

The panel was really good. I know there are people that don't like that actors can't talk about their projects with the SAG-AFTRA strike going on, but I LOVE that we get to hear him talk about himself. He talked about his acting and performance capture, theater, mountain climbing, his love of jazz, and his photography, which he doesn't talk about a lot and was very exciting!! The interviewer was fantastic and asked a lot of fun "this or that" questions (he picked art museums over history museums, vampires over werewolves, but struggled with plays vs musicals lol). I got a Caesar Funko, a Snoke figure, and an OG Cornelius figure. We also ""acquired"" some of the photos you could get signed if you didn't have anything special for him to sign, so I ended up with a David Robey and a Caesar print 🫠😌🥵. (Bless you and your taste for crime, H. I love you.)

Overall, it was such a great convention and an amazing weekend. I loved Dallas. Huge thanks to @communism-bitches, @csboz, @the-eyes-of-andyserkis, and @tarrenterror25 for making the weekend extra fantastic and for being so lovely. 🥹 I love and appreciate you all so much. We're absolutely doing this again soon, hopefully with the rest of TNBF crew to make it EVEN better! 😍💖 Andy Con 2024!

haiii uhm. idk if anyone has asked this but what are some of your favorite character costumes/outfits :O

iggy i love and adore you and i love this question. hold on, i have to dig up some images.

okay. i dug up some images. so many, in fact, that i hit image limit on this post and had to trim some things down. let's go through it.

we're gonna just go ahead and start out with dinah lance, the light of my life. this whole post won't be sorted by character, but she's the one i have the most images of, so she gets her own section.

i know people really, really love the short-haired, less effeminate dinah we get in grell's 80s run. i'll get to her! but i'm going to start by saying that her looks in the green lantern/green arrow run are all-time. please consider, if you will, the most fashionable lady in the room:

(i can't include the house robe from snowbirds, but know that i spiritually do count it as part of this post. i hold it near and dear. for now, these two looks will do.)

her long black hair. her little white vest. the statement necklace for her date with ollie. and look, i would include ollie here too, because his outfits in this run are PEAK seventies dad energy, but i don't have the space and i like dinah more, so you get these.

then comes the 80s, when dinah is in her element. short black hair, noir vibes, wearing graphic tees for things like "seattle slugfest." (in longbow hunters, at least.)

she gets some cute looks in grell's run, obviously, but i'm partial to this little skirt and sleeveless denim button-up because it's so very unlike her. she was putting in the work to look cute, and i appreciate it. oliver, meanwhile, looks like fred from scooby doo.

the 1991 run is important because of her extremely high heeled boots with the BIG cuffs around the calves. i miss the cuffs. i wish they would return to me. but the actual panels i think about the most from this run are when she cuts her fishnet stockings and uses them to tie her hair back.

wh. who. i want to know which people in the writer's room decided that was a feasible option. i just want to talk. i can't imagine a less stable hairstyle to go karate-chop some yacht pirates. come on now. but also, she even ties them in a bow? i love her so much. what the fuck is happening.

she has a lot of good looks in birds of prey (1999), honestly, but none of the artists have EVER IN THEIR LIFE seen a woman's chest. not a one. i'm going to go ahead and stick to the two things i love: the fringed leather jacket (iconic) and the long-pants jumpsuit that they did instead of the fishnets.

i don't know WHY they got rid of the fishnets, honestly, but i like this turtleneck situation and the yellow accents. also her communicator necklace on full display <3 she also usually wears a motor jacket OVER the jumpsuit. slay!

(it's maybe a little sacrilegious to like the long pants costume, given that she is so well-known for the bodysuit and fishnets. but to be fair, even when they cut the legs off this suit, she still isn't wearing the stockings. her legs are naked. 0/10 what the HELL.)

sean izaakse deserves his own post and i would not be able to pick out a limited number of panels from his work on green arrow (2023) but i will say i love dinah's new costume, i love the texture on her jacket, and i love that she gets to have the little canary logo on the chest now.

i assume this was more of a birds of prey (2023) design and not izaakse's personal design, but i love how he draws her hair, and she's so short compared to everyone, and overall she just looks good. zero complaints here.

(actually, i do have a few complaints, they just aren't about dinah. one, lian's eyes should be brown. two, ollie should have KEPT HIS HORRIBLE MANBUN, THAT'S MY DAD. and three, mia's cape should still be yellow on the outside. otherwise, the art in this run is perfect.)

speaking of mia.

the art of green arrow (2001) is not like. my favorite art style ever in terms of aesthetics. but hester really, really sets the tone for a lot of these characters through his design choices. particularly mia, which makes a lot of sense given this is her introduction and he did a lot of the initial work with her character.

the thought put into her costuming. she's wearing baggy clothes to contrast with what she wore before she moved in with ollie, she has the hair up in a messy ponytail, etc etc. this mia is everything to me. and i love ollie, too. he looks like a cartoon dad from a nickelodeon show. which is exactly who he is, to me.

we're gonna detour from dc and into marvel for just a second but don't worry we'll come right back. i was really excited when kelly thompson and leo romero were announced for birds of prey (2023) because i really liked their work on hawkeye (2016). it's such a good style for kate bishop, in particular; it feels very youthful and the style just suits her. this is The Kate Bishop, to me, outside of the 2012 run.

(i also really, really like the way dinah is drawn in birds of prey (2023). she's small, she's compact, she looks like someone who's been doing gymnastics and karate her whole life. i could also fit her in my pocket! perfect!!!!)

but yeah okay i mentioned it so i also need to shout out hawkeye 2012. this comic's aesthetics were so fucking on point, and it is one of my favorite ones i've ever edited because it has such an INTENTIONAL color palette and use of graphics like the arrows and bullseyes.

like i know everyone talks about how good this run is but that's because it is LITERALLY that fucking good. the writing. the art. the characterization. ugh. life-changing.

anyway that's enough marvel (for now). back to my hovel. dc.

spiritworld (2023) was so fun. the art is so intentionally drawing on manga and i loved it from the first issue. you can feel the love put into the character design and the color work, and xanthe's cool bomber jacket and undercut is SO essential. this is the nonbinary rep we deserve.

shoutout to cass's look in this comic, too. i LOVE this costume for her. it moves in such a fun and exciting way when she's flipping around and moving through the air, it has a new silhouette, AND it STILL has the bat on the chest. perfect. everything to me. never change.

that being said, i DO have a favorite cass look, and it's these specific panels from batgirl (2000). the style in most of that comic is great, it's super funky and fun, but these were the panels i saw that ended up solidifying in my brain as "oh, that's cass."

also from batgirl (2000) though, i love the funky design choices because they give us things like PEAK takes on stephanie brown's spoiler costume. she's just a fucking blob to me. look at her.

steph has a lot of fun looks, to me, but my favorite will always be the era in like, issues 110-112 of robin (1993), where they gave her a bob cut and big :pleading: emoji eyes.

i do wish she'd had freckles at this time. i know they were a later addition, but i like them. they add character.

unrelated to AAAANY of that, i need to talk about poison ivy (2022). this run is stuuuuuunning. i've only pulled panels of pamela here because i LOVE the way her freak body horror is done, as well as the way her hair is drawn, but the scenery and the textures of this comic as a whole are insane.

even when the story isn't grabbing me, the art does. it's beautiful, it's unlike any other comic i'm reading right now, and it is one of the first comics i ever looked at that made me go, oh fuck, that's an ART piece. ykwim.

HOWEVER. if we're talking about comics that are just. art. through and through. there are a couple others i need to mention.

supergirl: woman of tomorrow is stunning. the colorwork, the hair texture, the EXPRESSIVENESS of the FACES. ugh. this comic made me cry, yeah, but it also made me stroke the pages lovingly because of the beautifully rendered colors.

i love that kara doesn't always look Pretty. i love that she gets bloody, and beat up, and she looks tired and sad and sick sometimes. i love that it is so beautiful and also you can see genuine hurt on kara's face. ugh. UGH. this comic!!!!

now for the indie shit lol. die (2020) is sooooo lovely. stephanie hans is ordinarily a cover artist, but she jumped onto this project to do pages, and my GOD is it beautiful. the character design, the colors, the expressions. it feels like a PAINTING and i want to EAT it.

there's a lot of body horror and gruesome stuff in here. but like, somehow, even that manages to look pretty? i love the painterly textures. i love how the tone influences the colors. it's all just stunning. i need to go reread this one right now, actually.

annnnnnnd! last one, i promise! it's time for THE FORGED (2023).

i love this comic. everyone in it is a lesbian with an atypical body type, half of them are wearing bondage gear, and it's all set in a space sci-fi setting with more lore than you can shake a stick at.

and on TOP of all of THAT. LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THE COLORS ARE.

there are a few honorable mentions i don't have room to include images of, so i'm gonna go off and list them now:

the wild west arc of exiles (2012) in that very painterly style

the scenery and background work in wonder woman: the hiketeia

the INCREDIBLY clean lines and sharp colorwork of dan mora in world's finest (2023)

the super sketchy and rough pencil-esque art in the back half of green arrow/black canary (especially mia! i love her!)

i am sorry but i enjoy the very sharp style of batgirls (2022). i don't necessarily endorse the writing or the story of the run, but i think the shapes are good. sorry. take me out back, i know.

Hello! Sorry I kept you waiting, but my thoughts on this wonderful circle follow! I didn't really speak at length or unpack a lot of it, but I wrote some broad strokes of what interests me about each of them.

I might unpack some of these things in future posts, but if you want to hear more about something specific I mentioned (or about a specific thing I didn't), please feel free to send more asks!

Nathaniel

I am well-known to be a Travis Stan On Main because he is into the same sorts of characters and archetypes and narratives and themes that I'm into. Nathaniel is no exception. I knew I was going to love him off the Q&A, and by God, do I love him.

I think there's something terrifying in how he often is so (endearingly) nervous and hapless yet commands absolute unthinking loyalty in Sean and Marion. But, I do love a character with an unexpected iron force of will underneath a more easily dismissed surface, and I'm always lucky Travis loves that too.

The Trapp family dynamics are absolutely BONKERS, and I've been turning over in my head the reveal that Nathaniel has lived his entire life in the shadow of not just an older brother, but an older brother who died when he was young—and he feels responsible for it. Truly blisteringly deep well to draw from here, and he's another example of how efficiently Travis can sketch a character and imbue them with a sense of deep and heavy history, a dense web of relationships, and a very present absence looming over them in so little time.

A classic Travis character. He's like what if Fjord was Cerrit.

Beatrix

I have to, unfortunately, admit that she is my least favorite of the circle. She is a solid character and well-executed in this episode, but unfortunately, she is of an archetype and is generally a type of character that I don't vibe with. (I had this same issue with Auggie—very well executed, just not my type.)

I am very interested in her place within this circle as the longest-serving among them, and I am very interested in the way she hovers over Jean and the old histories with Marion and Sean. I do also find that sort of distanced assessment of the three men and observation about having watched them go through flashbacks constantly; she is right that they, ultimately, need time, but her distanced tone teeters close to It Is What It Is and that's a fascinating, somewhat jaded perspective if so.

Sean

What a darling, violent boy. I love characters in this genre who take a shotgun or a baseball bat (literally, in this case) to supernatural creatures. Big energy of: "The horrors are incomprehensible? Buddy, I ain't interested in comprehending them. [cocks shotgun]"

His relationship with Nathaniel in particular is fascinatingly bonkers to me in the best way, and I think Sean's devotion to Nathaniel is wild in that like, even factoring in the war history, Nathaniel does not seem like a man Sean would normally respect—so this level of trust is quite evocative. The dead brothers throughline between them is going to drive me insane.

I'm so interested in leaning more about Sean's history during the war, especially because Sean is framed as that's all he has left. He is so stuck in that war that it's in his specialty, and I think there's a lot to explore in grappling with how important it is that Sean's brothers (apparently) died on the same mission Sean stopped being able to look at himself.

Jean

My girl! Like Nathaniel, I knew I was going to love her off the Q&A and, like Nathaniel, I very much do. I ADORE a character who is so tightly controlled they threaten to unravel at any moment. I love characters who seem cold and cool but care so much and is so full of warmth.

I'm also fascinated by the glimpse at her relationship with her father. There's also something very sweet and interesting in the way she dotes on Marion, and I'm definitely watching that relationship closely.

All in all, I wanna see her get her hands dirty, and she's started this chapter off with making a hard choice and I hope that she keeps struggling with them. It's very fun to watch a character who thinks they know the direction they going get all turned around. I am very excited to see this clear code she has further unravel across the chapter, and I love to watch a character with poise become undone.

Marion

As said, a sweet boy! He is so dear to me, and it tickles me that Luis comes onto the channel and immediately experiences The Visions. I'm really curious about the origin of this scar, and why the pointed plant imagery with the window and the patterned shirt and the promotional images. I also would love to know more about Marion's history during the war and what that breakdown at the end was about specifically.

I alluded to it above, but I find his relationship with Jean to be very endearing and I Am Looking while that develops. His relationship with Sean has some fascinating hesitation in it—the exchange about would you know if I was okay / would you tell me in particular—and I do have some thoughts about how interesting it is that it doesn't necessarily feel like Marion quite Gets Sean post-war even though they seemed very close pre-war. I also again find the intense loyalty Nathaniel inspires in him to be so well developed but also terrifying. Marion's is subtler than Sean's, but he is just as quick to listen to what Nathaniel commands, and I'm curious to see if we learn if there was a specific incident that earned it.

He is an enigma at the moment, but I love a haunted seer, and I'm so looking forward to it.

You're getting an update sooner than I thought because I skipped nearly allll my Sunday shows to take advantage of me and the watchbuddies all being on the weekend! (Oh My God Love in Translation finale brb - update will wait) (Finale was good am back, I feel so warm and cozy, what was I talking about again? Oh yeah how amazing Not Me is)

Episode 6 was a lot and episode 7 was AMAZING

There was NO Todd in either ep so I have no additional thoughts on him.

The plan in ep 6 was bonkers but it was crazy for White to switch it out right at the end!! Strangulation was a bit much though...

I did adore the crosswalk metaphor in 6 1/4 though, walking into traphic because you're in the right doesn't mean you won't be killed, and if you are killed will your death have made a difference? mmmmm I really want other people I know to watch this show...

interestingly one of the only things I had already seen was that moment under the pride flag

not with sound or words, just the hand grab and the jumping and, with no context, I had assumed it would be much later in the series, a moment where the characters accept their relationship to each other...but nope, Instead it was a moment of shared celebration before that shift in the relationship, I might love that even more!!

Episode 7 felt like it shifted tone a little though to what I'm not quite sure yet.

We did get apparent resolution/explanation for the Eugene/Gram stuff

I'm still not sure whether Graham was in love with Black or her though...

Also, gosh! First was distracting this ep! Like how am I supposed to read the subtitles when I can't look away from his eyes??

Also commentary on the police!! The actions we don't see and the difference between individuals and an organisation. SO MUCH IS BEING SAID IN THIS SHOW. Working both inside and outside organisations is required to make change. Also the way officers are granted automatic respect/lack of suspicion.

Plus the confirmation from multiple characters this ep around knowing that their actions might lead to death or jail and choosing it anyway... Youth is such a passionate time.

The whole gang was throwing one of their famous parties and guess who was right at the center of it all?

Arthur fuckin' Morgan.

Now he wasn't a fan of parties or getting drunk, but today your husband was refusing not to participate. He was completely drunk off his head, swaying round and round with the women while holding a bottle of rum in his hands. His moves were making you and Hosea laugh as he grabbed Lenny's hand and jumped up and down on the spot before taking a swig of his drink.

"In all my years Arthur and I have been married, I've never seen him this relaxed or carefree." You mused, watching as he pulled Tilly up and danced with her, or well stomped over her feet making you let out a giggle.

Hosea laughed beside you, agreeing. "He's always carried the weight of others on him. But you've taught him otherwise." He grabbed you hand squeezing it in thanks. "Without you, he'd never have let go. He'd still be that stoic young boy I've known since he was 15."

Hosea's words made a lump form in your throat and you could feel yourself tearing up. Pulling Hosea in a hug you silently thanked him, knowing that you'd made a difference for Arthur made you happy.

"Hey! Whatchu 'ink your doin' with ma wife?" Arthur slurred as he squinted his eyes at you and Hosea hugging.

"Uh oh." Hosea commented laughing as he pulled away. "I think-

"Darling, I think you've had a little too much to drink." You commented.

"Hey, 'm not drunk. Just a lil' bit tipsy..." He mumbled more to himself as he took a chug of his drink.

Arthur had already made his way closer and was standing in front of you two, offering Hosea a drink to supposedly drive you away from his wife. "C'mere sweetheart.." He pulled you up and dragged you to the middle where Dutch's gramophone was playing loudly and offered you a sip of his drink.

"I'm good sweetie." You gestured to your stomach to which Arthur 'oh' ed at and let a smile grace his face. You watched as he bent down, stumbling on the way down but managed to hold himself on one knee. "Arthur what are y-

"Shhh darlin'... I needa talk to my babies." He mumbled as he pressed an ear to your protruding belly. Your eyes widened at his use of word 'babies'. You were pretty sure that you were having just the one. "Hey little ones, i- 'm gonna make sure we gots a lil' house fer me, yer mum and you little ones."

Your eyes darted around as Arthur whispered, well loudly whispered what be wanted for you and his kids- sorry kid. Hosea and Susan was watching with gentle and adoring eyes, while the others were shocked that Arthur was talking aloud about his plans.

"Arthur-

"I know mama- just a little longer." He looked up at your with loving eyes. "I hope you know, I'm gonna take such good care of ya. Me and yer mama love ya both so much."

Your eyes began to fill up with tears at his words. "Hey, 'm finished now. Sweethear', why yer cryin'?"

Giggling, you wiped your tears pulling Arthur up and pulling him into a hug. "I'm fine darlin', I'm fine, I promise."

Arthur pulled back, a huge smile on his face as he grabbed one hand and raised it to the air. "Dance with me?"

"Arthur! I-I don't- I can't- I don't know how to!" You stuttered, looking around at everyone watching. The music had died down and everyone was now watching you two.

"Dutch! Play some something louder! I wanna dance with ma wife!" Arthur called out as Dutch laughed and played something more to Arthur's tune. "That's more like it!"

Hand still clasped together in the air, he started dancing around you, before Arthur pulled you towards him, his other hand holding your back. You let out a little squeal as the gang let out a loud cheer and whoop. "Arthur!"

"Waheey, looks like the old man still got 'em moves!" Sean hollered as he let out a wolf whistle.

He spun you around before slowly dipping you and kissing you on the lips before pulling you back up. "I love ya Mrs Morgan."

"And I love you more than anything Mr Morgan."

Hosea watched as the music slowed down, changing to the slower romantic tone as the two of them swayed with the music. Arthur watching his wife with a lovesick look on his face, while you watched with the same look. They surely were two fools in love. Hosea knew they were two peas in a pod and that he'd help help get the happy ending they needed.

There are many reasons why you are my favorite CS shipper! You are such a lovely person 😍

I wish I could say that I can't believe that someone would send hate saying you are a "cs traitor" for a post not even related to either Emma or Hook. However, that fandom was so toxic that it pushed many of my closest ouat friends from 2013-2015 off of tumblr. They just got so much hate simply for liking an opposing ship.

Some would even get death threats for daring to say they considered Neal their favorite. There's a reason I got very vocal in the fandom and started doing reviews. I could handle the hate, so I would always rather it come to me than to those more vulnerable.

Ouat really was the most toxic fandom I've ever been in.

But yeah that whole nonsense only happened because I said what I still believe is true - that Curious Archer (Alice and Robin) were the healthiest ship on that show. Also, 'healthy' doesn't automatically mean 'the best' (even though I did think CA was one of the best ships) - there are plenty of toxic ships I absolutely adore. Not only did I clarify it was my opinion but I didn't mention ANY other ship! But what was great is that I had plenty of CSers (friends and people i didn't know - we're pretty sure that person was just a troll cos, well, it was season 7 and we know how stupid things had gotten by then) come to my defense but also plenty of friends who were by no means CS fans at all.

It's like I've said before, by fandumb logic, I shouldn't be talking to about 95% of my OUAT friends because of ship and character interests. But that's just stupid! I mean, look at us! I'm a Hook/CS fan and you're a Rumple/Rumbelle fan! The venn diagram of the characters/ships we like is very small but we don't give a shit about that because, well, we have common sense! You're not a bad person because of what you like, and I'm not a bad person (well, i have my moments) because of what I like. "Ooh you can't talk to them cos they ship y" hey, as long as they're not insulting me calling me an abuse apologist or any of that shit, they can ship Zelena and Hades for all I care!

The OUAT fandom experience certainly set the bar... both in good ways and bad ways. Like, I'm currently in a fandom based on Anne Rice novels yet I look at the dumb shit I see going on there and go "...still not as stupid as OUAT" but I reckon a lot of it has to do with the fact that the writers and actors of that show have very little presence on social media. After the shit I saw Mikey, Sean, Jennifer, Lana, and Emma (just to name a few) go through... yeah, that's a smart move.

*le sigh* Anyway to wrap it up - shipping wars/character wars are stupid and you shouldn't base your friendships solely on your similar ship/character interests cos otherwise you're going to miss out on some really cool friendships :)

I remember my first Jennifer Lopez C.D. I was about 9, or 10 and received On The 6 as a gift.

I don't actually remember if I had been a fan of Lopez at the time (I was hip to Britney, though, I remember that!), as soon as I heard the opening to "If You Had My Love", I was hooked.

On my adorable, hot pink boombox, was when I first really remember hearing Jennifer Lopez sing. Although a little mature, the song nonetheless had lyrics that actually weren't too bad for a young girl of the 90's to hear - love, trust, comfort me. Don't lie to me.

I was absolutely mesmerized with Jennifer Lopez. She was pretty, fun, seemed kind (I was a kid), and as I began to watch her films, I fell in love with her portrayals, especially in Selena, and Enough.

I don't care what y'all say, them movies were GOOD.

Most of the old heads (myself included) might remember Jennifer from before her musical career; her time on the sketch comedy show In Living Color, and in films like Money Train (1995), Selena (1997), and Anaconda (1997).

This is where Jennifer soared. Her acting. By the time she'd dived into music, she had already had a very loyal fan-base.

I don't exactly know what happened, but sometime around the late 1990's, she decided to dive into music, met Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, and as we know, the rest, it's now history (I hope).

But now, it's 2024, and Jennifer is no longer liked.

Her fans? They're few.

Concerts? Not selling.

As a (why cap?) lifelong fan, I have to admit, that there have been reports, that Mrs. Affleck doesn't actually sing as much as we think she does, on her albums.

These claims, along with people who have stated that meeting her was quite unpleasant, paint a picture as to why Mrs. Affleck, today, is not only losing popularity, but building an anti-brand.

A part of me wonders if Jennifer's recent film, This Is Me...Now, has a bit something to do with the growing disdain.

From looking at people's reactions to her self-funded film, a love story so to speak, it occurred to me: Jennifer isn't being authentic.

Jennifer is showing people a very shallow, pretty, gussied up version of her true emotions.

When she sits in her bedroom, brokenhearted, is this truly how she feels? I think people are upset, because when watching these kinds of statements from Jennifer, like her constantly professing about being from The Block, people get exhausted.

They feel like Jennifer is faking the funk, not showing her true, raw, maybe even ugly, scary side. One thing we can say about singer/actress Beyonce, is that she is NOT afraid to show us her scary side.

But Jennifer has never gone there (with us). She's never truly shown us a stripped down, raw version of herself.

That's what crossed my mind this morning as I sipped by 1$ bodega coffee.

But...then another thought came in.

What if this is it with Jennifer?

What if this is all there is to her? And us, the demanding, hungry public, is asking a bit more than she can actually give.

sun (midnight motel): ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE!!! carried the show!!! slayed beyond all expectations!!! truly incredible as the villain, one of my fave acting performance EVER I loved it so much. also sun in himself is the most interesting villain I've seen!

namnhao/namnuea (the judgement): shit show with problematic tropes but mond ATE!!! him as namnhao is not only unrecognizable & absolutely adorable, but really had some fucking top tier acting!

badz (boy for rent): the role that started it all. made me fall in love with this cutie & unable to ever go back. badz is hot af, the only character that didn't annoy me at some point during the show & the acting is very good.

kluay (water boyy): the first role I saw mond in!!! kluay honestly carried the show, he's so fun & flirty & cute and we love him in this house!!!

gram (not me): I love gram, but not the storyline he was stuck in for the whole show. I love how political gram is, how much he can be a debate-lord at times lol, and even that he's a scaredy cat. I LOVE the way he spits on dan when he betrays the gang & how he hugs sean after he gets shot. I LOVE his banter with nuch & will forever be a gramnuch stan. however, I didn't like how withdrawn from the rest of the gang they made him in order for him to pursue eugene, who looked uncomfortable the whole time & was his best friend's ex. gram had so much potential, but sadly he ended up being my least favorite character from not me bc he got the short end of the stick. mond did a great job though!

tee (the underclass): kinda forgettable show tbh but tee was a very cute love interest & I watched the whole show just for mond so slay!

matt (kiss me again): even though kiss me again is legit the worst gmmtv show ever made with ugly duckling: pity girl & turn left turn right, and matt's love interest is THE FUCKING WORST, he was kinda sorta okay I guess. to be frank I forgot everything from this storyline bc the way his love interest wanna prove he's gay is YIKES.

dodo (saneha stories: bar host): a hot, struggling stripper who becomes a literal dad??? if the show wasn't so short & rushed this would be way higher, mond ATE!

term (ps: I hate you): a hot dummie who forgives lies for love, which... couldn't be me lol so he's there.

por (fabulous 30): I really liked fabulous 30, and it wasn't because of the main character played by mond. por is bland AS ALL HELL, pushy & disregards his best friend's feelings, and he just... gave us nothing. at least he's cute thanks to mond's good looks though :')

GAWIN:

pisaeng (be my favorite): so it's very hard for me to decide which is my favorite gawin role, simply bc imo pisaeng, dan & mork are all my faves for very different reasons. but I will put pisaeng here bc I literally don't see how anyone could dislike him? like he's perfect but not boring & does have struggle, which we LOVE around here! also the depiction of him finding his sexuality in bmg ep.5 was INCREDIBLE I loved it so much!!! so pisaeng will be number one (for now!)

dan (not me): now, dan is on another plane of existence for me. I literally adore him & am a dan apologist THROUGH & THROUGH bestie. I genuinely think he's one of he most interesting characters I've EVER seen, and that makes it so he shouldn't be in this ranking. he EXCEEDS this ranking! I absolutely adore imperfect characters & I think the depiction gawin gave dan was perfect. BUT dan also gave me THE MOST PAINFUL betrayal scene in existence that literally has changed my dna TO THIS VERY DAY, so just for that I'll give him the number 2 spot :')

mork (dark blue kiss/kiss me again): girllllllllll, my heart aches having to put mork in number 3 bc I LITERALLY ADORE HIM!!! I was a huge dbk stan but since then I've legit rewatched the show only for mork lol, I absolutely love him & he's an amazing character! so as I said previously, mork is number one in my heart on a equal playing field as pisaeng & dan, I can't choose!

saifa (enchanté): literally the tiniest role but he was hot af AND played a guitar rendition of offgun's too cute to handle on the show???????? AN ABSOLUTE BLESSING THANK U! also he legit played cupid for akktheo so slayyyyyyyy!!!

mile (girl next room: motorbike baby): honestly better than the actual love interest cpodiuygsuichdisucodihb, hot & ALSO plays guitar (duh), too bad that he's a cheater lmao!

This episode is SPOILING ME!! (I honest to god think this might be one of my favorite episodes of all time and I don't know how that happened but it did. But there's just SO MUCH TO LOVE ABOUT IT! XD <3 <3 <3 <3)

ANYWAYS!!

It's a short scene. We're quoting the whole thing and commenting as we go. Deal with it. XD

"Hey I don't need to say this wasn't your fault, right?" "I don't know."

The fact that Stiles knows his best friend enough to know that he's feeling guilty as all heck for something that he REALLY SHOULDN'T (accidents happen, Scott. Sports are dangerous. Not your fault.), but that he phrases it in such a good way by making it seem so naturally obvious that it wasn't his fault. Plus, extra points to the fact that you could pretty clearly see Stiles wrestling internally with himself about whether or not he should bring it up and deciding he couldn't walk away without trying to ease some of Scott's distress.

"Scott if you had used any wolf power, that kid wouldn't be limping, he'd be crawling, back to the other half of his body." "If I hadn't been so worried about being captain, he wouldn't be hurt either."

Scott that is so not fair to yourself, okay? We all saw that little head shake you did after it happened, and we ALL knew you were thinking it, but that's NOT FAIR TO YOURSELF, okay? And then I LOVE the way Stiles tells him that.

"It's okay to want something for yourself once in a while. Team captain, Alpha werewolf...you're still only human."

I MEAN!!

It's the way that Stiles gets right to the heart of the matter in calling out Scott's incessant need to put others above himself.

It's the way Stiles says it so confidently, because he believes it, because it's true.

It's the way Scott just looks at him in slight disbelief, like the concept of wanting something for himself is completely foreign to him, especially now, even though he totally deserves better.

It's the way that Stiles just looks at Scott in pure awe and admiration and love, like he can't possibly fathom how this man doesn't see himself the way he sees him.

It's the way that Stiles gives him that last little smile and comforting shoulder pat, reminding him he's still here even as he walks away.

It's the way that Scott, despite his guilt-ridden self, gives that slight smile back and watches him go.

It's the way that these two adorable idiots see the absolute best in each other, but can never see the good in themselves.

THIS IS WHY THEY HAVE EACH OTHER AND THIS IS WHY THEY NEED EACH OTHER AND AHHHHH!!!

Twenty second scenes, ten minutes scenes, and now, a thirty second scene, successfully way over analyzed with all of my emotions losing all functionality.

I forget when the Adam D'Angelo story about Dustin comes up, maybe it already has, but that one truly takes me out. The dedication that Dustin shows...Mark does not deserve him and it is very interesting to watch their....everything.

Sausage and Santa Perla oml <3

I can't list one without the other ofc. Sausage's lore captivated me in Empires s1, and hasn't let go yet. The lore he's running in Empires s2 is just incredible. It's made me cry far too many times, and I'm just so invested in whatever the hell he's got going on. Also I love a good excuse for religious world-building, and having Santa Perla to work with has been so fun. <3 I'm really looking forward to what Pearl decides to do with her side of the lore now that she remembers as well.

2. Something that makes you laugh

It's Mark Watson, Alex Horne, and Tim Key! This is collectively representing them as a group of friends and just doing stupid shit together, but also No More Jockeys, Mark's long shows, Key's works, and the non-Taskmaster stuff Alex does, though there's not much outside of the Horne Section these days lol, he's a busy boy.

For digital things, may I offer the following: - Longform: Big Fat Quiz 2015. It starts off fairly sensible then gets derailed by bad dong, and only gets more off-track from there. A classic. - Shortform: Carrot In A Box. Need I say more. rip Sean Lock, you bastard genius. </3 - TV series: 15 Storeys High, Sean Lock's sitcom from way back when. It was rec'd to me by a friend, and I don't regret finding a copy to download bc it's so good. <3 - TV series: This Is Jinsy, weird, full of songs, nonsense and whimsy, def worth tracking down a copy of this show. It's so good. Makes me laugh so much. <3 Greg Davies in drag is also a lovely touch lol.

These are the Taskmaster books that still exist. I tore up an awful lot of them to make 1000 paper cranes a few years ago. XD Also have some Key and Horne and Watson. <3 The three books on the far left are my current reading material.

Cub omg. <3 I just find his voice so soothing and comforting, and bingeing through his episodes or watching his streams is very comforting for me. I'm really enjoying all the daily speedrunning streams atm bc they're on when I'm awake during the mornings for me, so I can have breakfast and chill with Cub and it's so so nice. <3

6. A TV show or movie you hope more people will watch

Double The Fist is an old Aussie TV comedy that I maintain is actually a metanarrative about the intersections of queerness, homophobia, and toxic masculinity (ESPECIALLY in the second series) that I am woefully inadequately skilled enough to actually write on, but trust me bro, everyone in the main cast is some flavour of queer and I'm here for it. It's very good.

bonus shout out for Set The Thames On Fire, bc it's such a good movie and more of you need to see it frfr. <3 There were some really, really interesting headcanons going around linking Noel's character in this movie back to his character in The Mighty Boosh as a bonus if you like that kind of thing.

The Prisoner! Dhani Harrison got me onto this bc he named his band thenewno2, I adored their music, and when I looked them up, discovered what it was named after, and then I dived right in and fell in love with it. I can't remember which specific episode order I prefer out of the five or so that exist, but yeah!

I've written crossovers with The Prisoner for my last 2/3 fandoms, so maybe I'll get there for Hermitcraft one day. :D?
