Three Running Qs: 1) I think youve mentioned you have restrictive eating habits, do you have harm reduction tips on running with these? If it's not too personal, does running make it harder to manage food anxiety? 2) As a fellow stimulant user, is running after taking Adderall harder on my heart? 3) Do you have tips for building stamina? I started running 4 times a week about a year ago but my stamina has barely budged. Could this be the eating disorder or should I try something different?

yeah i mean... i hate to be the bearer of bad news but basically any degree of restriction is going to fuck with running performance for the same reason it comes with a whole host of medical risks. you can definitely mess with your training but if i (not a coach) were to guess i would definitely assume it's the semi-starvation that's holding you back. you're pretty much inherently fighting against yourself whenever you try to push your body while also under-fuelling it. in terms of harm reduction there are some nutritional concerns you may need to attend to (electrolytes and hydration, iron, b vitamins esp) and you want to be extremely vigilant about injuries, and also your bone density. but there is just a certain degree of risk whenever you take on strenuous high-impact activities in combination with under-fuelling. & as far as food anxiety goes i mean that's sort of the ticket innit lol. yeah running is part of the toolkit by which i manage that but i always have to be careful that im Doing Behaviours to a degree that makes my life overall better. so it kind of all depends on your priorities. if what you want is to Achieve Full Recovery then you probably need to think long and honestly about running and its role in your life.

as far as the adderall goes, yes, both stimulants and strenuous exercise place additional strain on the heart. so does chronic energy deficit and weight loss in itself btw. with adderall, experientially i believe the cardiac strain is dose-dependent but i don't have like a risk table handy. to my knowledge it is pretty much universal medical advice not to engage in strenuous activities on stimulants for like a multitude of reasons including the cardiac risks.

I just think seeing jinx grow outside that child/flighty troublemaker into a full on villain/terrorist will be fantastic and will also give her actual league lore another layer that hopefullyyyy they can continue to build on (and they will never stop banking on jinx like that's basically leagues mascot)

OHHHH this is such a good question okay okay okay. let's see.

what do i look for? primarily, kon having an actual character voice. that's the lowest bar to clear (and yet already takes out... a good chunk of the fics ive seen in the kon character tag ��😭). he needs to be silly, geeky, deeply kind, earnest, etc. not every fic featuring him will necessarily get into the way he's also existentially lonely and has a Lot of sadness and self-esteem issues (esp after rex leech's roller coaster incident. this has been on my mind today. ough. his self-image never recovered after that one!) but by GOD does he have his issues, so if its a fic going into emotions i want it to do right by his. will def admit thats smth im incredibly picky about.

as for stuff i want him doing? honestly i am here for so much!! i want soft simple character studies. i want action showcasing how fucking powerful ttk can be, especially with a dose of creativity to its use. i want wacky yj space adventures. i want good good whump and hurt/comfort. i want him getting swept off his feet. you could sell me on almost any plot if it's well-written.

re: characteristics... i don't really split them up quite like that, i think! he's a well-rounded character, and that includes both strengths and flaws. ideally, a good fic will include both of these and represent them fairly (like, he's not perfect by any means, and he can do stupid things and struggle with personal issues, but on the other hand very few things tick me off more than portrayals where he's just completely incompetent and dumb as a rock, lmao).

BUT REGARDING MY OWN WRITING. ohhohoohoohooho three things i ALWAYS have to include? a) geek-ass loser (affectionate). i think it is SO endearing and also very humanizing as a quality that he's a trekkie/wendy fan/star wars nerd/etc. b) mixed-race metaphors. they may not be overt depending on the piece but the "child of two worlds that doesn't quite fit into either" thing is Deeply intentional. and c) HES A JUGGERNAUT!!!! i firmly believe adult fully realized kon (a kryptonian, with full kryptonian powers, WITH TTK) is a force of fucking nature. i like this so much and i specifically also always like it when he is at any given moment about 0.4 seconds from freaking the fuck out about how it's Too much strength.

to me, kon is a character made of some very delicious contradictions. he's so painfully human and yet grapples hard with his own personhood and humanity. he's a kryptonian and an alien but he's a child of earth. he's terrified of his own power. he wants nothing more than to protect everyone he loves (and everyone he doesn't love, too). he's always ready to crack a joke or make a silly reference, but he is deeply sad and spent so much of his early life suicidal. he contains multitudes. (and this isn't even getting into my hcs on his gender/sexuality crisis! ksjdhf)

i feel like a gripe i often find myself having when looking for kon fics is that he often gets slotted into the role of "emotional support boyfriend with no personality or role of his own" though, which i guess is why "does he have a distinct character voice?" is my first litmus test for whether i'd want to keep reading or not.

a good kon fic will embrace all his contradictions, i think. (a good fic for any character, really, should show them as well-rounded and three-dimensional.) and i for one love his Problems and Issues, bc man, it's a very fun space to play in! <3

and i see big things for you: this is the first threshold (transformation) in the hero's journey. In this particular case, the protagonist becomes a groupie for a band that passed through the town, and this world of travel and casual excess is very different from the world theyre from. The scene is a basement shows, cigarettes in a hotel bed, underfunded recording studios, etc. From wolf alice's "white leather"

somewhere there's a party: the "challenges and temptations" part of the hero's journey-- our protagonist gets tired of the constant moving and, craving something more, ends up in a big city working as a model/socialite. The scene is a closet filled with frills and designer clothes, a gala, the backstage of a fashion show, etc. From the replacements' "swingin' party"

don't cry about it: now at the second threshold (abyss) of the hero's journey, things start going downhill. The protagonist loses themself in a wave of drugs, sex, and excess; the scene is now a large bathroom with a shattered mirror, a smoke-filled bdsm club, a nosebleed, etc. From lana del rey's "this is what makes us girls"

careful fear / dead devotion: with the third threshold (atonement) in the hero's journey comes the protagonist's realization of their own rock bottom and the desire to get better. The scene is a dark bedroom with light coming through the door, a park at night, an open window, etc. From the nationals' "don't swallow the cap"

born with a weak heart: the end of the hero's journey-- the protagonist takes what money they have left and splits, getting a place in the middle of nowhere and working as an attendant somewhere they won't be recognized. there was to be no death in eden: Mostly i use it for animals that i dont have a specific tag for, large groups of animals, animals in little people clothes, fantasy art, folk tales, children's books, or anything else i consider to be edenic. omg hi!!!! hm okay let me see. i've been in the middle of redrafting the entire thing for the past few months so i am full of a multitude of very disorganized thoughts. i think i'll talk about my mc's mother bc i recently had so many good ideas about her (you can see her here)

things to know about Leithe. she's 5'5". I've spelled her name about half a dozen different ways through my drafts. she's really bad at lying. she's pan. i associate her with sunflowers and yellow chrysanthemums.

she was the child of lesser nobles in Ngelorim (one of 3 kingdoms that was later abandoned) and despite socially really not needing to do anything of the sort, she was a very outspoken peace advocate and proponent of strengthening the Alliance to include non-elves. (in this setting, elves aren't really like...better in any way? they just live a long time, and humans think they're sort of cowards and unreliable, due to the whole "abandoning kingdoms after magic eco-warfare caused a mass soil degradation speedrun" thing, which is remembered with a lot less nuance by human oral retellings.)

she was coppersmith (?) by hobby. that's very specific so idk for sure but she made jewelry of some variety and was like. passably decent at it. just for fun. she was halfway decent with a sword, I'm thinking maybe like a light sabre/rapier, again just for fun and because she liked staying active and like. queer woman's fixation on swords and all that.

she met idhren at some stuffy social event, where she was speaking about a probably-unpopular political stance. at the time, he was serving on the council in Linador (one of the other 3 kingdoms) as a mediator, or...maybe he was already on the larger Alliance council I need to redo the timeline. and he was immediately just so impressed because, you know, she didn't have to be saying any of that, it wasn't popular, but she didn't care. so naturally he Did Not Fucking Talk To Her. at least not on purpose. later that night he went outside for some fresh air (introvert social battery on 0%) and ran into her. and they hit it off, kind of bonded over people seeing only surface-level things about them. she was pissed off about only being seen as a pretty face and nobody listening to her words, and he was uncomfortable with the unwanted attention of people always pointing out his foreign Fairalmin accent.

they eventually became pretty close friends. don't worry about the timeline. hundred years or so lmao. a very "he fell first, she fell harder" type thing: he kind of always saw her as like a safe person, someone he enjoyed being around and who was entirely captivating as an aside, but he was perfectly content to leave it at that and never mention it. she'd only seen him as like, very serious in a quiet melancholy sort of way, sort of demure and whatever, and vaguely knew he'd been a low-ranking military officer before a council mediator, but at some point saw him sparring and in armor and was just like. "oh. ok cool. im very normal about this. fuck." i made a post of her with the "babygirl your enormous eyebags and just barely noticeable tremor have captivated me" meme and like. yeah.

at that point he was on the Alliance war-council thing I mentioned, and in a...well I hesitate to call it a relationship, with the general/warmaster leading it all. worked closely under him, they'd both experienced similar losses they hadn't really healed from, the warmaster wanted a purely physical distraction from the stress of war/his partner's death. again, Idhren was perfectly content to ignore his own feelings of wanting something more, but finally he did have to break it off just for his own sanity. honestly, he and Leithe (who were sort of figuring out their feelings by then) would've been okay with a casual poly thing if it'd been on the table.

anyways, in the war's aftermath they became a couple in earnest. at some point Therien (my mc) was born. she's a weird little fucker lmao i love her dearly. when Therien was 12, Leithe was part of some peace convoy during a nearby kingdom's civil war, and was killed when they were attacked.

idhren was like "oh my god i am not mentally stable enough to be responsible for raising a child in a healthy environment she needs to stay with my friend for a few years while I get through this" which like, not a great option, but the guy had been launched full force back into half-healed trauma response suicidal ideation so I can't blame him. my first book begins 5 years later, when Therien meets her father again and gets the chance to come home, right on the edge of another war, and gets to learn a lot about her parents on top of the usual teenage uncertainties.

This won't come as a surprise to many of any of you but, yeah, it's rimmer. I want to put him in situations, I want to take him out of situations, there's the full duality there. I relate to him a lot (which probably isn't a good sign lol) and I strongly believe you cannot have red dwarf without him (i mean, look at the ratings for season 7 even with the girlboss that is kochanski). His character itself has such good potential, the angst that comes with being a hologram, the touch-starved-ness (?), his entire childhood, his need for academic validation even 3 million years into the future when all who would care anyway are dead, I could go on forever.

👿Least favorite character

Don't do this to me man 😭 I don't even know if I have one?? At least not out of the main crew. There's no character that actually makes me vibrate with rage in a bad way... If I did really have a think it would probably be a one-off character that was only in one episode and never mentioned again. Oh! I've just remembered, some fanon interpretations of Toddhunter honestly made my skin crawl with how horrible he is, but obviously that's just fanon, and some fanon interpretations have him as honestly a really good meaning guy- looking at you, Work Thing ;)

💐Comfort character

If you can't guess at this point I honestly don't know what to say. It's rimmer, look I know I know, the comfort character who has had no comfort in his entire life/death but *slaps roof of car* this baby can fit so much projection! He's so varied, he's gay to me, he's bi to me, he's autistic to me, he has ptsd to me, he's yearning, he's in denial, he's just- HE *I am dragged away by a lone hand through the doorframe before I can continue*

WHY IS IT ALWAYS RIMMER ON THIS ASK GAME PLEASE HELP😭😭😭 Hes a stickler for the rules (as long as they benefit him), he's probably autistic, he loves hammond organ music (very disappointed that he hates my main man Glenn Miller though 😔), he was an outcast for most of his childhood, he was bullied, he spirals at the slightest bad thing. I don't know?? 😭😭 I think all of red dwarf's characters really add to the material as a whole, and hey, it's not like this fandom is really big enough for overrating anything. I might say Duane Dibley, because yeah he's funny, Danny really performs well as that character but I don't really understand as to why he was so much of a fan favourite that they brought him back (for season 6 I think it was?) So if I had to say one character it would be Duane.

I guess I'd have to say Holly? He's got brilliant comedic timing and delivery (as Lovett and Hayridge) but the fact she was cut out in the later seasons and then brought back in season 8 and then gone again in the more recent ones just feels disjointed so she's easily forgotten sadly. (Yes I use she/he pronouns for Holly, she's genderfluid to me <3)

🐰Favorite non-human character

I'm gonna be honest, it would really have to be Holly. (I'm discounting Hologram Rimmer because he still sees himself as human in some way and he's had far too much screentime in this post). The comedic timing, the deadpan delivery, that amazing scene where she counts by smacking her head against the screen always makes me howl.

❤️‍🩹Character who deserved better

All of them. All of them. Rimmer, for reasons we've already gone into. Lister, the survivors guilt, he was SA'd at 12?!!, his entire relationship with Kochanski, his alcoholism, crushing loneliness, I could go on. The Cat, his entire species left him and his family because they were old and/or disabled, again loneliness. Kryten, literally in denial about his crew being dead, left alone for over 3 million years and still somehow hanging onto his sanity through episodes of androids, the need to do anything, literally anything to make sure he doesn't think to hard about anything other than laundry, honestly people need to talk about him more. Kochanski, losing her dave, stuck with this dave who looks exactly like hers but is so different, watching him destroy himself, having nothing in common with any of the crew, LONELINESS MAN.

Sorry if you've answered this before, but I'm interested in how werewolves work in your lore? I love the new guys so much!

i don't think anyone's asked! i use fr as like.. a creative playground, so there aren't a ton of hard-and-fast rules on how just about anything works. (no matter how much i overthink things)

the werewolves in my fr lore are kinda based on my werewolves in the ttrpg game i run so this kinda goes for both lol

tl;dr it varies wildly! essentially its a magic disease family with a multitude of slightly different presentations.

there are two main groups of lycanthropy: genetic and contracted. genetic strains are only passed from parent to child, and children almost always inherit it.

there are fewer genetic strains, and they tend to have more in common with each other than contracted strains. different genetic strains can interbreed with each other and create hybrid strains as well.

contracted strains are passed via fluid contact when the sire werewolf is transformed (usually saliva in a bite wound, but also things like, say, ritual blood-drinking. not sexually transmittable.) but from there it varies wildly.

some strains only transform under the full moon, some can do it at will, some turn with extreme emotion. some look like full-on feral wolves, some turn halfway, some look like the universal wolfman. some are just human under the fur, some revert to animal instinct, some become aggressive. the fur color and texture always matches the human/dragon form's hair, and body types usually match. any given strain can have any combination of symptoms.

a couple examples: hawthorn was bitten, he can turn at will and unwillingly with extreme emotion, his wolf form can stand on two feet but otherwise looks like a massive wolf, he retains thought but is much more instinctual, and is not affected by silver. rosie, one of my npcs, is a genetic strain, she turns under the full moon and with strong emotion, her wolf form walks on two legs (and looks like a giant poodle- her human form has curly blonde hair), retains full faculties, and is allergic to silver.

there are treatments and a bite doesn't guarantee infection. if someone is treated immediately after exposure, their transformations can be easier to control or stopped altogether. there are also medications to prevent passing it to others. lycanthropy cannot be cured and most don't want a cure.

on the fr lore side, werewolves are a known factor and aren't as rare as one might think. dragons, being innately magical, are more susceptible to lycanthropy than beastclans, some of which are totally immune.

gaolers in their fourfooted form are sometimes mistaken for werewolves. views on lycanthropy of course vary- they're seen as almost lucky in some parts of shadow territory.

🖊 - he 'argues' with his cat a lot. and by that i mean the cat makes a noise and then he amkes the noise back even Louder and then theyre both going MOW at each other for 2 minutes traight. until his cat stops and then he claims that He won. 🖊 - he can play the piano AND the guitar. he contains multitudes 🖊 - if he didn't get swept up by arasaka he would've been a car mechanic. just some guy <3 and you know what. thats what he deserves!!! he needs a break 🖊 - he has been through a divorce. sad little wet rag of a man 🖊 - before he got his first job at arasaka, he lived out of a van for 2 years because he got kicked out of his family And the valentinos 🖊 - he has very bad writing, mostly bc he didn't actually learn to write until he was in his 20s, and then he never bothered tyring to make it look nicer 🖊 - thanks to [redacted] at arasaka trying to [redacted], he now has a cyberjaw and a prosthetic leg. the jaw was only supposed to be temporary while everything healed, so then he could get something stronger and more permanent. he kept the temporary jaw for way more years than he should have and only Finally got it changed after he [redacted] and it almost melted off <3 he is very stubborn 🖊 - truly the best tits in all of n/ght c/ty. im right. you know this 🖊 - he loves cars so much. but he loves Stealing cars more. and he'll do it again! they're all his now. sorry

🖊 - he is short and not all that strong but he is very fast. so watch out 🖊 - he got his teeth sharpened so he could bite people in combat. it already hurt people a lot before he did that [because he is full of rage] but now he has the power to rip a guy's skin off with ease. so. don't make him angry <3 [HE BITES A LOT AND WITHOUT WARNING] 🖊 - he lost an arm due to a Horse Incident when he was younger. over the years he messed around with making his cyberarm more useful in combat, and eventually settled on retractable claws in the fingers And turning the whole hand into a grappling hook. there is also a hidden compartment for throwing knives (^:< 🖊 - very good at hacking computers and bringing down whole systems with a virus. thats how he started making money after he left his clan. and what eventually lead to him being sent into space. 🖊 - by complete luck, he got a job at militech, mostly tech repairs and computer security. and one day, again by complete luck, someone caught him implementing a virus to steal More money and well. he was very good at his job, but also very dangerous so they couldn't just Leave him to it. solution? space 🖊 - if he didn't take that career path, he would have been a gay little cowboy. he misses horseriding so much. theres no horses in space 🖊 - he can do a handstand and scuttle towards you on his hands. party trick 🖊 - he has red eyes. he wont admit that he wanted to look more like a vampire. but that's absolutely why he did it [the sharp teeth and long hair dont help] 🖊 - he makes the best brownies youve ever had. you think youve already had the best brownies ever??? no you havent

01. my portrayal of anakin is based on . . . years writing the character, both on and off tumblr. i do not excuse his actions, i do not expect people to like him depending on timeline. however, i do believe that the series did him a disservice often times, and as such consider myself somewhat canon divergent and headcanon based.
