So like one common theme when discussing bullying is the tendency for bullies to project their insecurities on their victims right? like them taking their own shit out on the people they bully?
so i know that may not be exaaaactly the case with Max Jagerman in Nerdy Prudes Must Die like the dude even in the afterlife just really fuckin likes terrorising the shit out of people due to his god complex BUUUUT what I found very interesting was when in the Nerdy Prudes Must Die sequence, he was telling Richie to repeat after him: "Who will pray for me when my body's gone or until another Richie comes along?" And mind you, this song comes directly after another musical sequence about all the teens in that high school being so fucking happy that Max was gone. And like, well yea you can't blame the kids for being happy that Top Terrorizer #1 is gone and that they don't have to abide by his social strata anymore - but then again, having nobody pray or give a fuck about Max after him being mysteriously missing for 2 weeks is,,kinda fucked up for Max no matter the kind of person he is. So, to see someone he victimised get the attention and appreciation I would assume Max would've wanted from his team especially after being missing for so long - it really does seem to me that he was projecting onto Richie when he was about to kill him and making him feel how little he will matter to other people when he dies - like what he could've felt after literally everyone considered the high school "objectively better" now that Max was gone.
Which makes things a whole lot more interesting when Max snaps out of his WHO WILL PRAY FOR YOU solo when Richie belts out I'M NOT A LOSER - henceforth defying the idea of worthlessness Max was projecting onto Richie. So damn.

Disco Elysium & Language
Okay okay so a bit ago I (foolishly) decided to (poorly) translate all 200-something pages of A Sacred and Terrible Air, despite having zero experience with Estonian whatsoever (so, you know, take what I’m saying here with a huge grain of salt).
There’s a small thing that gets lost in the translation from Estonian to English, the object of my obsession: The Pale
Its original Estonian counterpart is ”halli” (which essentially functions as “the gray” [a part of a whole], as opposed to “hall”, which is just “gray” [a color]). Hall and Pale are both used to describe the color of skin due to No Blood. They have similar connotations & uses.
Easy-peasy. Let’s look at the Chapter 15 title “Hallitus”. Hey, that looks kinda familiar, I see a “halli” in there.
First we gotta backtrack. Hallitus is just a noun derived from the verb hallitama.
Hallitama is built from “hall” (”gray”) plus -tama (suffix for making a noun in to a verb, generally means “to make”). So, hallitama would (should?) literally mean “to make gray” or “graying”. BUT! It actually means “to mold”. Like an apple being coated in a gray fuzz, hallitama is “to mold / to go moldy”. Oooh!
So “hallitus” means “moldy”. But it also, sorta, means “grayed thing”/”pale’d thing”.
So, we have this word that’s used to describe all sorts of manner of withering, decaying, frail, or dead things.
I don’t know, it tickles the brain.

[ID: A digital illustration showing Tashiro Gonzaburou from Sasaki to Miyano. The illustration shows an interior apartment kitchen bar, as Tashiro sits on a bar stool and blows on a spoonful of soup. The fridge is decorated with magnets and notes, and a pot of miso soup still sits on the stove. Tashiro is wearing a baggy green t-shirt and black shorts, and his hair is lightly dripping with water. The illustration is rendered in oranges, purples, and greens. The artists signature “sunnfish” is written in the corner. A second version of the illustration is also pictured, showing just the rendering lines without the majority of the background color. /End ID]
“Man, that makes no sense to me! For one thing, we don’t even have miso every day at my house. If I want some, I just grab a packet of the instant stuff and boil up some water—on my own. I guess sometimes my folks as me to make some for them, too, and I grab two packets.”
“Huh! Wait, isn’t it actually expensive to make two people’s worth?”
“Sure is. If that goes on for a couple days, my mom is like, it would be cheaper just to make a bunch at once! She always says laziness is the root of wasting money. And I’m like, I know that! But I keep making that soup.”

What do you think it's like for some banal z tier villain like Aunt Sarah to end up on the Isle of the Lost? You're some little old lady in the middle of Edwardian New England and you buy a muzzle for a dog that you thought was attacking your cats, and call the pound on another dog you thought was attacking your baby nephew. Next thing you know you're being rounded up by some king you've never heard of to live out the rest of your days on some garbage island where magic is real and you have to cohabitate with ex sorcerers and literal gods because of some otherworldly canon connection that's outside your realm of comprehension. Must be crazy

new rgg fans will never know what they missed back in ye olden days of the fandom (like, 2019), doubly so now that scott strichart's deleted his twitter and jon riesenbach's privated. twitter was so fucking fun and then whatever-the-hell at sega of america happened and caused a fucking snowball effect and now we have shitass localization and resulting discourse that makes every release nigh unbearable, misinformation, confusion, people complaining about "bad writing/mischaracterization" not realizing it's because of the shitass english loc, i'm sitting here like jesus christ these loc bitches massacred saejima's character voice, people will never see him as he was intended, as original yakuza 5 localization Correctly painted him, and now they're coming for kiryu. god help us. we used to be a proper fandom. before everyone was subjected to the remastered localizations and shaky eng characterization. no one had even played yakuza 3-5, people still called morning glory "sunshine" orphanage, kiryu was our only protagonist and people still called him "boring", it was beautiful...
anyway gaiden uses affective instead of effective because the current localization team is full of careless dumbasses who don't give a fuck about ensuring they're using correct english grammar and this is not an isolated incident

idk if it's a common interpretation of the scene but i like the idea that 1. julian and jadzia have similar Types and it's a point of teasing, and 2. the 'GO AWAY!' PADD scene w leeta was both out of general annoyance and out of julian assuming she was trying to make charming leeta into a competition
