“i need you to believe me when i say that this shit was real it happened. so basically when weezer took a break in 1995 while rivers was at harvard matt got really really pissy and made this whole concept album about being in a doomed failing relationship called return of the rentals. and like most of this album is probably about rivers (theres a song that references how 'its been six long years', matt and rivers had met exactly 6 years before in 1989) but the big one is the final track sweetness and tenderness. which is functionally a breakup song about needing more out of a relationship than youre getting, and references 2 (two) things. first being the song conversation by gary numan, which is a song about two men (look at the lyrics theyre absolutely insane) and the other being heaven on their minds from the musical jesus christ superstar, where matt compare him and "whoever" the song is directed towards to judas and jesus respectively (specific lines taken are 'ive been your right hand man all along / my admiration for you hasnt died / i havent forgotten how put down we are). i have been reliably informed that jesus christ and judas iscariot are gay as fuck in jcs. and also btw rivers was a massive fan of jesus christ superstar and listened to it like religiously in 1993 while making the blue album. which is 100% where matt knows this from and also why he brought it up its because hes talking to rivers in this song. now during this time there was another song called my head is in the sun that matt just couldnt finish writing and so it got shelved for like 2 years. but whatever the band gets back together and they record pinkerton and pinkerton flops so they take another break. and during this break matt is like Okay rivers uhhmm im going to leave the band i think because i want to pursue my own band as a main project. and rivers goes Okay . and so they both go to boston and move into an apartment together while rivers actively searches for a new bassist to replace matt in the band and matt stays inside and just. writes music. and he keeps coming back to my head is in the sun and he just cant figure it out so when rivers comes home one day he asks for help on it and rivers helps him finish it in one night. and its their only ever joint writing credit. and matt named his next album (seven more minutes, great album, go listen to it) after lyrics from this song. and its also like crazy themes type shit because there was also a song from return of the rentals about being creatively stagnant by yourself so like ?? it all comes full circle. anyways after matt fully leaves the band rivers freaks the fuck out and becomes like the worst person ever because hes also weird and gay but i dont have time to get into that. this isnt all of it but its a lot of it. #rattcanon2025”

fanfics where the relationship between lanolin + tangle & whisper is portrayed as ‘tangle and whisper never let her ‘in’ to their group and make lanolin miserable’ make me so sad

cause A: i don’t think tangle would do that. she loves making friends and having her friends all in one place, and especially before anything happens between them she wouldnt have any reason to be closed off towards lanolin. and the main reasons between tangle and jewel not having much time together were jewel being busy as director of the restoration and tangle being busy with her own missions and adventures (and not entirely tangle’s fault, since jewel was equally capable of asking tangle for some hangout time if she wasn’t a workaholic) - so especially with lanolin being on the same team, there’d be little reason not to spend time together, even just for training or missions.

B: whisper might do that and it’s fairly reasonable, considering how much tangle had to work at it to connect with her in T&W and how much difficulty whisper has now forming connections with people, out of fear of being hurt again. she’s more likely to shut lanolin out than tangle, so i can see some situations where tangle leaves whisper in her ‘comfort zone’ and does stuff just the two of them… but also many situations where tangle encourages the *opposite*, to try and get whisper to form more connections. and even still, whisper’s been getting better about opening up! we can see she HAS healed some over the course of the comic! less desperate, more happy where she is :)

my reading of canon is that they’re compatible as teammates, they just didn’t come together well at first - all just a little off compared to each other, rough edges turned out. and i don’t think any of their behavior gets to the ‘toxic’ point

(plus i see ‘all the paperwork being foist onto lanolin’ a lot… which seems an exaggeration for the purpose of worsening their relationship. certainly jewel would ask for some paperwork done, but… she knows tangle, and intentionally set up a team dynamic that’s set up more for action and ventures for tangle’s sake - she’s not going to ask for 4 hours of paperwork filled per day! and while i can see tangle wanting to avoid paperwork, she wouldn’t if she knew it was burdening lanolin - she’s not cruel or THAT avoidant of responsibility! and she WAS doing things like inventory/stockroom duty with jewel. writing her as ‘cant do paperwork because too distractible’ is firstly discounting ways of helping people focus, ie tangle fidgeting with her tail or a fidget toy while doing paperwork, and secondly reducing tangle to a flanderized version of herself, she isn’t JUST bouncy and excitable, and she isn’t ALWAYS 100% fullspeed hyperactive, and she isn’t JUST goofy physical fighter, and by no means is she brawn without brains…)

I think the thing with Linux is it is more difficult, but a lot of that comes from it being different more so than innately harder. Windows is not a magical operating system that we're all born with innate knowledge of, we grow up learning it and getting used to it's quirks, so much so that they begin to disappear and we forgot we had to learn them in the first place. Linux might require "more" knowledge, but it's knowledge that is absolutely learnable if you're willing to go back to the headspace of being a kid again and trying to figure out how stuff works. it's okay to not know how to do everything immediately, it doesn't mean you're stupid or doing something wrong.

In response to seeing calls to switch to Linux I've seen a lot of people cry that it's too complicated and we can't expect people to all jump ship on windows/mac, and I get it, I really do, but so much of it is an experience problem, a problem of community knowledge, more so than it is an actual problem with Linux itself. at this point Windows is tradition and it's so engrained in people it's hard to switch. and that's not a moral judgement! it is hard! I'm not someone who pretends Linux is secretly super easy and everyone and their mother should use it. but... i do think we should recognize why it's hard, and not pretend it's impossible to overcome that difficulty for the sake of more independence in our lives

Everytime I see people get upset about any form of media, especially indie/youtube stuff because the creators werent "inclusive" enough or "did it wrong" I just remember my irl friend, a cishet white guy who is fully an ally and friends with many poc, queer, and trans people telling me how he ran a dnd campaign with a group of characters that were each a color, and how his players were disappointed cause he made the only female one pink and the only non binary one the robot, and how the two of us had a good laugh about it.

Like give these people a break sometimes, we are all human, and especially if you aren't a part of a minority, sometimes you just want to tell a story and aren't thinking of how many brownie points you can slip in. Also, we are all dumbasses! Irl we let the people in our life be stupid sometimes, lets extend the same kindness online please.

Yes, inclusivity is great and we should be asking larger companies to tell more stories with different perspectives, but also lets not harass people and indie storytellers for these same things please? We are all stupid humans and a lot of people don't have the big eye of the internet to give them the "correct" beliefs.

i wanna get into andteam but I watched iland and idk if it’s evil editing or what, but K didn’t seem like the greatest person to me? Maybe I’m biased because my ult is Heeseung but idk. The same could be said for Ni-Ki but he was 14-15 when the show aired, I think K was old ebough(?). But seeing recent clips of him he seems extremely supportive of his members! (And my bsf also loves K so i hear a lot of good things about him!). No hate to him obviously!! Just wanted you input!

so i'm going to apologize right away if my tone does not sound as nice as it usually does while i answer this. i am honestly just very tired of the "k was mean" discourse and people not taking the time to see the entire situation as a whole. all everyone sees is "k was mean. riki cried" when it is NOT that cut and dry

every single person on iland was tired, frustrated, stressed and overworked. each of them were being pushed to their limits. have you ever been so tired and exhausted that your words don't come out that great or your patience is a little thin? keep this in mind when you think about iland k

k was the only person who expressed his frustration to the people to their faces instead of going behind their backs and talking about them like what people did with heeseung. could he have worded things better? sure! but given that in the moment he was exhausted, frustrated, etc (which are not negative emotions) he tried his best to express himself. riki did not just cry because of what k said to him. riki cried because he was ALSO feeling exhausted, frustrated etc. it's not so black and white. and no one likes to be scolded or called out by someone they admire. it's embarrassing but what k said was not wrong

we also have to consider the fact that because k is the oldest he inherently had MORE responsibility put on him than everyone else. he's immediately held to a higher unfair standard and it's not his job to parent a bunch of teenagers. he was there to fight for his dream just like everyone else and he acted like everyone else

reality tv always wants a villain. so because k had the guts to express his frustrated feelings outwardly was gold for them. there was absolutely evil editing and they purposefully didn't show just how close k was with riki or jay etc. they focused on k's relationship with taki and made it look like he favored one over the other. k and riki are friends to this day. if k truly was so horrendously mean like people try to make him out to be, both jay and riki would not speak so highly of him still or be in contact with him

idols are held to extremely high and sometimes unrealistic standards. k is human. he's allowed to not be perfect all the time. he's allowed to say things and have them be misinterpreted. he's allowed to not be everyone's cup of tea. but what makes me mad is out of all the "drama" that happened on iland this is the thing people will not let go of. if you think he was mean, okay that's fine that's your opinion. i would hate if people referred to some of my most traumatizing moments in my life and denounced me to just how i reacted when pushed to my limits. he is so much more than the person he was on iland. he is extremely loving, kind, patient, and considerate to not just his members and i really urge you to take the time to see the kind of person he is outside of iland

another thing to keep in mind is we don't have the full picture of that moment. things were edited and framed in ways to keep an audience engaged. we also did not get to see every moment on iland. we didn't get to see how they interacted when the cameras were off, we didn't get to see a LOT. we got a snippet of some discourse and then were moved along to the next part of the show. we are missing a lot of context to what happened

at the end of the day you can have your opinion of him but just know if anyone thinks k was truly mean on iland you should probably not waste your time on my blog. i greatly urge you to do your own research and come up with your own opinions before just siding with twitter discourse etc...

You understand that sub Eddie is a term used and tagged widely by the entire Eddie fandom and all Eddie ships right? Totally fair to only want your event to be Steddie but you could have picked a more specific name instead of just borrowing one that already exists for everyone. It’s not fair to bring hate to people that are just minding their business with no idea this event is even happening but now they have people commenting on their shit that other ships aren’t allowed. Being rude because you didn’t know an event had commandeered the term sub Eddie for the week. There’s enough hate in this space already.

We picked the name because it was available! Any other event group could have done the same if we hadn't, but out of all the other media and ships that involve someone named Eddie, no one did. Any other event can pick their own, more specific name, too, if they want.

Trust us, we understand being hated in our fan communities, but this ask is a waste of our time and yours. We just finished up our second year with this being a Steddie-only event, so this isn't a new thing we suddenly "commandeered," and we didn't consider anyone would see it that way when we picked our name. Assuming we had malicious intent over something so small like this is unfair.

The standalone Sub Eddie Munson tag can be used by anyone at ANY time and we've never said anything to the contrary. This is part of why we specified this year to tag our specific blog (which has all our rules pinned and easy to find so there should be minimum confusion as to what/who this event is for) because other people use the same tags we use.

All we have asked is that people don't use our event collection on AO3 for unrelated works which is really reasonable seeing as we personally made the collection and moderate it ourselves. If there are other events going on, event moderators should be making their own collections. If there isn't another event going on, people shouldn't be using a random moderated event collection anyway.

No one speaks for our event except for the official social media pages and we are unaware of any conflict happening in other places. Sorry this is happening, but we didn't ask for that and that's the fault of people who think they can backseat-moderate an event they aren't actually involved with.

And to anyone who feels the need to comment on works they feel don't "fit," the only official fics for our event are in our official collection on AO3 that we have linked numerous times, or they are reblogged on our official social medias. If it's not here or in the collection, it's entirely separate and you shouldn't be speaking for the event. We have given you a way to read only fics for this event by moderating the collection ourselves, so looking elsewhere is the fault of your own, not the writers simply using the sub Eddie tag.

tl;dr - you can use the sub Eddie Munson tag, literally nobody cares. Other events can pick their own names, we took it because it was available. Just don't use collection we personally made or randomly tag our URL/@ and we don't have an issue because we moderate our event and show everyone what's actually part of it. No one speaks for our event except for us, so stop doing that if you are.

one of the things that I think would hugely help and significantly reduce discourse in the VC fandom is people accepting these characters are not real. Sounds silly and obvious but when I started thinking about it less like a view of a different world with consequences and more like, idk, me and my friends playing with vampire barbies, it got a lot easier and more fun.

So much discourse is about which characters or ships you are “allowed” to enjoy if they are deemed “good” or “bad” and it all gets so much easier if you just accept that some people will like some things you don’t.

I don’t like certain characters in the chronicles but at the end of the day they aren’t real, and if that’s my friend’s favourite evil little barbie doll that I hate then they can play with that just fine. It isn’t real. They’re all made up, and the characters aren’t particularly worse than each other, you can’t play morals in TVC, they’re all murderous vampires who do evil things.

Just have fun with it. Be a little weird. Have those problematic faves. And if you aren’t enjoying it then put down the dolls and walk away, or play with your favourites away from where your friends are playing with their favourites.

Everyone posts about how Stardew Valley is a cozy LGBT+ inclusive game but NO ONE mentions the lack of a platonic option for the bachelors/bachelorettes. Which would be good for aspec people and also just more pleasant for many casual players I believe but that's not even the point. I just want to become best friends with everyone and not only does that require me dating everyone at once and feeling like a sleazebag because of it (ik the bad cutscene can be avoided but I know in my heart they'd be hurt if they knew) BUT it also means the women flirt with me!!!!!
