Talking about Saiki and SA here a bit, btw, just a warning~

Thinking about how you said Saiki was a victim of SA and you’re literally so right. I feel like people sometimes just blow right past the fact that Kusuke is like that with his brother, but I think it can add a lot to interpretations of his character. But even if it only goes as far as what is shown in canon — which I almost doubt — it still remains the fact that Kusuke is doing all of that knowing fully well that his brother can hear him. It’s literally sexual harassment.

People point it out more often with Teruhashi and her brother (back to the reasons you said, people think it’s more serious if it happens to women). But the things he does, that’s all sexual harassment. And yet when Kusuke does similar things, it’s often brushed aside. Just,,, a bit crazy to me.

i think most people that read/watch saiki k have recognized the fact that most main characters are meant to parallel or relate to saiki in at least some way, (if anyone who doesnt know what im talking about is reading this, im sure at least someone on here has done a better breakdown on that, i just.. dont know where to find that..) but this particular connection is one i dont see often and i genuinely believe that its almost entirely because of the whole "sexual assault/harassment isnt as serious when it happens to men as when it happens to women" thing.. most of the fandom acknowledge that what makoto does is awful and kokomi is a victim, so why is it different when its kusuke and kusuo ??

its EXACTLY the same.. what we see on screen with the saikis is WORSE, actually.. and what WE see from these two relationships isnt the full extent of what the two victims experience off screen, and i strongly believe that its heavily implied that both kokomi and kusuo have been through much worse with their brothers than whats shown..

we have no idea what kusuke couldve done BEFORE moving away and creating the telepathy canceler (and dont say that he couldnt have done anything cuz they were kids, cocsa [child on child sa] is still a thing and still valid, ESPECIALLY since they were both kid geniuses and kusuke definitely KNEW better.. but yea, kusuo implies that hes been like that for a long time, way before we ever saw them, sooo..) and its highly likely that whatever happened that we didnt see, before or after the move, was WORSE than what he does ON screen (i honestly dont want to think about what a guy with an incestual obsession with his brother does with cameras everywhere in his brothers home..) and what we see him do is already insane..

he does acknowledge that MAKOTOS behavior is bad when he sees it, but he never thinks its a big enough deal that he needs to help her or anything, (except for maybe the okinawa situation) which i know is probably just for the sake of not letting the gag manga get too serious, BUT it can also be explained pretty easily by this whole thing.. the way kokomi is treated is literally the same way kusuo lives his life, even down to their incestuous brother being possessive to the point of berating their potential love interests.. Can't believe 911 ABC is what finally got me to post on here, but whatever ... also working on my mental health BUT WHATEVER

I love how 911 plays with ghosts and spirits and superstitions, I think it's fun! Especially being someone who is pretty spiritual.

I also think it's really funny how much Eddie just doesn't believe in it. Being Mexican myself it seeps into your daily life without even knowing ya know. Someone in your family either visits or is a curandera, sobadora, psychic (to a certain extent)

I digress. I just wanted to get a fic idea out there! That maybe I'll write maybe I won't 🤷🏻

It starts off as normal day, ya know. They get a call that doesn't seem as crazy as it turns out it will become. A small fire in a design firm. They were testing out some oil paints for a specific brand. They didn't clean/dispose of the rags correctly they ignight. Things get pretty big bc the paint is also there and other art supplies that are flammable (as many thinning agents that are used for oils are), but almost everyone is accounted for in the evacuation and they're doing the final rounds looking for people as they're slowly controlling the fire.

Buck, bc it's usually Buck, finds the last person they're looking for, and the person runs towards him, and he runs to them as the room is half engulfed in flames. And in true 911 fashion, something explodes, things collapse and Buck as much as he tries to shield the person, the person under him still gets gravely injured and it's gonna take a while before they get dug out.

They talk for a bit, they do that half-hearted laugh where anyone who's been in a shit situation does, and the person is slowly slowing down. For whatever it's worth, in a different life, they could've been friends. The person tells Buck this much, you can hear Buck crumble.

They've been face to face this whole time, Buck isn't holding the debri up, but there isn't much room to move off anyway. The person has a nice smile and below the smell of soot and fire they smell like clean linens and fresh air.

It's not looking good.

The person breaks, confesses that they're scared and everything hurts and they don't straight bawl but they are crying. They also apologize to Buck they hope they don't haunt him. They tell him thank you, for talking with them, for being so kind and calm, for holding onto hope that the person never had to begin with, it made the waiting bareable. They say to Buck that they hope he doesn't feel guilt, that it's ok even if they are scared and want to live bc he made this all bearable.

They ask if he could hug them, that they always looked for someone to hug them when they were scared. And Buck does obviously. He's careful and gentle but he allows him self to lean on the person, he feels them go slack. He's crying.

They dont die but they fall into a coma. And you get to see the ghost of the person follow Buck and his team around.they realize they can manipulate little things, let themselves be known.

And Buck does notice and he's like wtf ... WTF.... he tells Eddie. Eddie laughs him off but the rest of the crew play along bc if anything Hen and Chim can fuck with him. That is until Jee start talking about imaginary friends and Hen keeps losing thing only for them to reappear Ina random place, completely impossible.

So they accept the ghost, except Eddie, weird things are happening to him but he ignores them. Everyone talks and hangs out with the ghost they have fun and play pranks and yadda yadda. Eddie lives in denial for a bit.

And then they get another call. And then it's Eddie that goes down. And then it's Eddie's heart that stops. And then it's Eddie looking down at his body and the ghost is next to him and ... hey he recognizes them. And they're like yeah, I've just been keeping an eye on Buck, and the rest of my family. Somethings been telling me to wait, idk for what but I know realize that it was for you. Eddie is sure he's crazy now, bc how and what??

They laugh bc there are no thoughts, only truth in the space they currently inhabit. It isn't your time yet, they say. They grab Eddie's hand and lead him back to his body. He's crashing, and then he panics and asks how to go back, and the person responds that it has to be the right time. That the physical body and spiritual body need to balance. That the drugs and life-saving actions need to take effect, and he needs to feel the tug back. Eddie is guided back into his body but before he goes the person hugs him hard and says give Buck one of these for me.

Some other stuff happens, the person returns to their body too and eventually goes to visit both Buck and Eddie. They both remember what happen, and the person remembers all their pranks too. The team is floored and so is the person but maybe the 118 make a new friend and maybe they all believe in something deeper too.

Cobra

You guys met on the street when a thief runs by you and steals your bag. Cobra was headed the opposite way so he was able to catch the thief as he was trying to run away. To pay him back, you decide to treat him to dinner.

For dates, you two like to go out to different places. Ex. amusement parks, zoos, etc. He definitely shows you a sweet and caring side that not many others get to see.

You hang out a lot at Itokan and his home. He finds it weird that he has never been over to your place but does not question it. You tell him that your family is a bit too overprotective.

To not let him know who you are, you let him drop you off a couple of blocks away from your home. You always try to get him to leave even though he wants to walk you in. You end up convincing him with kisses.

One night when he is dropping you off, you get off his motorcycle and lean over to kiss him goodnight. Before the kiss gets any more heated, you hear your name being called and it's your brother. That's how they find out about each other.

Rocky

You guys meet at Heaven. Your friends invited you and you decided to go to get out of your comfort zone (Hyuga obviously did not know). When a guy keeps harassing you, Rocky is the one to save you. You leave with him saying he hopes that small issue won't stop you from coming back.

When he takes you on dates, they are super romantic. Like candle lit dinners and at night walks at the beach.

You guys spend a lot of time together at the club but just the two of you. He likes to hear you talk about your day and your plans for the future. You usually lay your head on his lap and he loves to just look at you.

The gentleman that he is, he always wants to drop you right in front of your house, so you make him belive that you live in one of your friend's house that lives near you. Once you wait to see he's gone, then you walk to your home.

He finds out that Hyuga is your brother when you're going out for dinner one night and then somehow you bump into Ukyo and Sakyo. Trying to get them to keep walking, they reveal who you really are.

Murayama

You two met at a food stand. You were out with a friend and you saw him for the first time and thought he was cute. After seeing him a couple more times, your friend pushed you to ask him out on a date, which much to your surprise, he accepted.

For dates, Murayama is like a teen to a certain extent. Yall do crazy and fun things like arcade, karaoke, go bowling.

Yall know this man is CRAZY for you. I genuinely see you spending a lot of your free time with him on the roof of Oya High. He probably loves to place his head on your lap and sleep there.

Murayama is not one to talk much about his family so he does not find it suspicious when you decide to do the same. He knows that we all have our own issues.

Murayama finds out your Hyuga's sister by accident. He knows you had an older brother, but when your phone rings and a picture of your brother shows up, Murayama is shocked to say the least.

Smoky

Something about Nameless City always fascinated you, so one day you decide to go check it out. As you wander in you get caught by some Rude Boys and they take you to Smoky. Due to your gentle and caring personality, you share how you want to help the citizens.

Honestly, I dont think there would be much going out on dates, but just going around Nameless City and seeing what people need help and tending to them.

You really admire Smoky for taking the step up and fighting for the Nameless City and it's citizens. It always makes you fall in love with him even more when you see how passionate he is about his family.

Smoky sees how much you've helped and grown to care for the citizens of Nameless City, and how they have started to see you as one of their own. He can't help but care for you even more.

He finds out your related to Hyuga because you tell him. One night you realize that you didnt want to lie to him anymore and you just burst it out to him.

Hyuga

Let's be honest... I don't think Hyuga would have MAJOR issues with you dating the other SWORD leaders. Well... maybe one, *cough* Murayama *cough*.

l feel like secretly, Hyuga really respects Cobra and knows that he won't do anything to purposely hurt you. I don't think he would push much into your relationship, but Hyuga has definitely given the big brother speech to him, "You know I don't like you much, so if you ever hurt her, prepare yourself."

Besides himself, I think that Hyuga knows you'll be the safest with Rocky. Hyuga definitely does not want you in the club scene, but respects your wished when you do go. If there's one thing Hyuga is worried about, is Rocky corrupting you in other ways *wink wink*. He will probably tell Rocky, "Be good to her. She deserves the world."

Oh the trouble maker Murayama. Yeah, Hyuga may have slight issues with this one. He does not want Murayama to corrupt you since Hyuga knows how crazy he can be. He probably tries so hard to convince you to break up with him. He probably says to Murayama, "I don't know what she sees in you. If she ever comes crying, be ready to die."

Hyuga knows that Smoky is harmless when it comes to romance, so he probably would not mind you dating him. However, he will probably just be upset that you decided to keep it a secret from him. Probably all begrudgingly he said to Smoky, "Take care of her. If not, you'll regret it."

Ive been non stop thinking about this, so just a small ramble about parallels between DRDT and THH and how they were flipped.

DRDT ch2 spoilers!!!

I absolutely ADORE how the dev structures the events of DRDT in relation to THH. Its well known by now that they seem to be taking things from THH and twisting them into new and wonderful (sorta!) things and i utterly and entirely respect that, it is SO WELL DONE that you dont even notice at first. But when you do and start putting it together, it becomes more amazing in a way as you notice clues and intentions.

One of my absolute favourite examples of this is probably Aces almost-murder!! The motives are easy to catch onto but that one took me a while.

Aces almost-murder was already SO impressive to me, it creates a really interesting dynamic with Ace and Nico, showing us they arent as weak as they seem, but also bringing into question if it relates to the actual murder. However, i feel my love for this scene like... Skyrocketed after i realised the parallels to THH ch2. There isnt many but its enough to sendnme crazy!!

First of all, that its done in the gym. Although this doesnt EXACTLY parallel THH, i feel its a reference to how ch2 was in THH. My other realisation was how Nico attempted to situate Aces body as implied by the wire tied to the fan. Its no extention cord by any means but i find it really impressive to even be able to draw those simmilarities. Im also sure almost everyone was convinced Ace was dead, right? (for the total of like 10 seconds LOL!! So good) that also flips THH ch2 on its head as the "weaker" of yhe pair commited the almost-murder rather than the other way around. It was unexpected and shocking, and worked like a charm. Following this by finding out hes alive also just threw the entire thing out the window, completely flippimg the table on everything we thought we knew.

Orrr... Maybe im losing it. Maybe im so enamoured by this show that im like pulling red strings into knots trying to find more excuses to rewatch and analyse it! (you can decide) Either way this scene is SO GOOD i might make another ramble just screaming about it because it is SO well done and ill say that over and over.

i think heatwave’s favorite member of team prime is ultra magnus. and i know that the way i post might make it seem like he would prefer wheeljack or something but no, he is absolutely sold on ultra magnus and getting his approval. the sole reason for this is because ultra magnus actually has like a real job and has real work experience and parameters. heatwave might be chaotic but he does respect authority figures (to an extent). magnus is strong as hell and has very precise plans, even when it’s sometimes hard to puzzle out his goal, which heatwave respects the hell out of (hes the same). they’re both fiercely loyal, not necessarily to a specific sentiment but to a specific bot (optimus prime for both of them). also ultra magnus is in charge of a small but chaotic highly specialized team of bots and heatwave relates!! they have so much to talk about!! heatwave follows ultra magnus around with stars in his eyes bc look at his goddamn hammer thats so sick.

surprisingly, ultra magnus actually feels the same way. i mean his job description is “make sure these adults dont like light themselves on fire” so meeting a little dude who is just as crazy but actually responsible as well is SUCH a refreshing experience for him. like hes so used to weird guys that heatwave does not bother him at all but heatwave being a trained first responder with credentials and field experience is so soothing. he can hang out with this guy who is so similar to him but also a nice foil, bc heatwave may have a reputation for being impulsive but he still knows how to safely manage himself and others, and ultra magnus has a reputation for being very uptight but still participates in very dangerous activities. he just sort of accidentally becomes another father figure for him before he even realizes it. (optimus is SO jealous but doesnt want to say anything bc both of them are actually happy and comfortable for the first time in primus knows how long).

idk they both have similar personalities, they just express themselves differently. heatwave will do anything to get ultra magnus’ approval and mags will kill and die for heatwave. they deserve to have fun and meet people in different age ranges with similar world views and goals and thought processes!!

Reo, Nagi, and Reo and Nagi

Getting lots of thoughts about Nagi and Reo in anticipation for the new epinagi chapter cus I'm just nervous and they have lots of brainrot potential. Like they're just so cute but also heartbreaking but also but also- not just together but separate too.

Reo

I get lots of thoughts about how Reo interprets reality. Like, he's just so delusional sometimes?? Like from the light novel

"Although Reo's strength was a modest number, his speed, stamina, agility, and jumping ability already surpassed the youth team's average. However, Reo was greatly unsatisfied, thinking, 'I'm so lame'" I understand being dissatisfied with average among the best, but thinking that you're lame... The perfectionism also shows in how he insists that Nagi make it clear when he's not good enough for them to play together as the best in the world, when Nagi starts out complimenting him. He seems to have self esteem issues in general. There's also when Nagi left, and in Epinagi he wonders if Nagi thinks he'll make it past 2nd selection, and asks why when Chigiri and Kunigami want him to join their team, surprised at their answer.

Then there's when Nagi thanks Reo for introducing him to soccer and Reo is so shocked, he thinks Nagi is dying. And when its established that Nagi is not dying, Reo says that he's matured, which I would interpret as Reo simply not taking that thanks as true gratefulness, but rather politeness that Nagi has matured into giving, since he's usually so insensitive. He doesn't consider that maybe Nagi has felt this way for awhile, and simply wanted to express his honest thoughts because he thinks it can't be true, to some extent. Or at least that's how I read it.

But as someone who knows how straightforward Nagi is, I feel like he should know that Nagi is just straightforwardly expressing his emotions. Reo sees, he just can't bring himself to believe or trust in it..

I mean, I'll be honest a lot of his delulu moments come from how he interprets his relationship with Nagi. And I think he's aware of it too- that irrational emotion that overwhelms him when it comes to Nagi. I think its because he let his guard down, and got really attached.

As Reo says, "He might be able to experience a storm of infatuation and obsession with this person. No. He can definitely do so."

(Also, can I just take this moment to make fun of Reo for saying this immediately after "The fact that he's playing games by himself during lunch break means that he's a game otaku. Zero exercise factor..." , "The face that looked up at him had an emotionless and cold expression...It was so drained of spirit that Reo thought that he looked half dead.", and "That person thinks that Reo will give him money if he asks for it. Weirdo." Like what haha)

And, the thing is, theres some evidence in epinagi that Reo is very aware of this weakness of his, and hates it. Like, he seems so crazy in the anime during the toothbrush pulling additional time, and even his response to Nagi leaving him behind for Isagi seems pretty extreme from an outsider perspective (I think some people will disagree with me?), since Nagi isn't saying they should stop being friends, nor is he denouncing Reo as a whole. He just wants to play soccer with someone else for a bit. If you take a step back from the metaphor of playing together as a romantic relationship, this really isn't that unreasonable? But it causes Reo to develop a vendetta against Nagi. It almost makes it seem like Reo is upset that he got his thing taken away from him, with how much he apparently needed to play on the same team as Nagi always. (This isn't the case). It's a jealous obsession, and you can see Reo's awareness of this in chapter 14 of Epinagi

"I dont want to remember. We've both moved on to new teams. I should cut my feelings short there. All I'm doing is dragging it out. I wonder if he even thinks I'll advance to the next round? If I wash out here, what'll happen to him? He told me we'd be together until the end... But he left me. What if he's living it up with Isagi and he's already forgotten about me? These thoughts just keep running through my head. Over and Over..."

The conclusion being- "I hate myself right now". There's an interpretation of this involving the relationship=soccer metaphor, but tbh I kinda refuse to go along with that because I think its much more interesting to see Reo's interpretation of playing soccer with Nagi being the same as being friends with Nagi as like a misinterpretation on Reo's part, rather than some kinda metaphor-made-reality thing. And I think by the way this is prompted by Kunigiri banter instead of anything soccer related makes it clear that this is not about soccer. If it was about soccer, the action that would trigger Reo's feelings would be Kunigiri doing some sorta soccer combo, not them being super good friends.

(Epinagi really is a gay shoujo romance masquerading as a sports shonen manga ehehehe)

In any case! We can see with this final sentence that he can't stop thinking about Nagi and hates himself for it. Can also see him being delulu with the Nagi/Isagi besties thing lol. Also, the way he says "We've both moved on to new teams. I should cut my feelings short there." it really does seem like Reo equates playing with Nagi to being able to be friends with him, and I think part of what plays into this is Reo's insecurity. I mean, he's been shown to view relationships as somewhat transactional, right? With how he brings Team Y together with food bargaining, with how he gets his highschool team together using similar bargaining tactics, by promising them idols and fancy meat, with his relationship with his parents where they will only let him pursue soccer if he can prove that he can become one of the best. Even in his relationship with Nagi, he spoils him a lot in return for being able to use his talent. Everything is conditional.

In that context, it kinda makes sense why Reo assumes everything is over when Nagi no longer needs him for soccer. Reo doesn't really get that even if Nagi doesn't improve through Reo or need Reo, that Nagi would still want to be partners, because its never really been like that for Reo. The focus his parents put on rationality and practicality and performance also helps to explain why he's so bad at figuring out what to do with his obsessive/jealous feelings, and why he hates himself for it. He's not allowed to be emotional or imperfect, so he was never taught how to deal with those feelings. I mean I think in general, always being the competent person good at pleasing the masses, at popularity, at everything, does not prepare one well for these kinda things. Having emotions beyond your control, I think.

Even beyond this, we can see how Nagi has effected him emotionally in how his dreams change. Getting Nagi was originially all for winning the World Cup, but somewhere along the way, it got to the point where when they entered Bluelock, Reo's goal wasn't to become the best himself so that he could win the World Cup, but rather to make Nagi the Best. A goal that literally has nothing to do with winning the world cup...

It makes me SO CURIOUS where he's at by 207. I think before Nagi asked him for help he'd managed to bury them, and make a path toward abandoning them entirely. Afterwards? I don't think he's gotten any better. He's still possessive, seems to want Nagi to have eyes only for him, and when Nagi gets sappy with him he laughs it off and refuses to accept it. When he dismisses Nagi's thanks as deathbed confessions, was it to protect himself from trusting? Knowing how little Reo thinks Nagi thinks of him, it seems like something he would have been overjoyed to hear, which really makes his response seem like a cautious dismissal. Especially his panel of shock, I wonder if there's that fear of assuming too much again, getting too close again. I'm really curious.

Nagi

Nagi gives me brainrot in a less angsty way, since he started so low that things can only really go up from him now. He went from having to buy a cactus to talk to to having a rich bf who adored him and did everything for him, to being able to escape his apathy and develop a passion that he really seems to be enjoying. Reo really made his life better and he knows it - writes poetry to Reo in his head constantly, joined a weird soccer cult for Reo, even after Reo slapped him away, Nagi remained dedicated to their dream. If Reo is underconfident in the security of the Nagireo situationship, Nagi is overconfident. He really seems to think Reo can read his mind? Lol.

Even so, because he's less soccer obsessed, he's at least a bit more grounded. He doesn't mind if Reo plays with people better than him, didnt want to join Bluelock because he didn't want him and Reo to be rivals, all that really seemed to matter to him at first was being with Reo. So, while Reo equated their partnership to being a soccer duo, Nagi saw it as an extension of their friendship. Unlike Reo, He's not particularly possessive. Like I said, he said he wouldn't mind if Reo chose to play with another player at the start. But he does care a lot about him - gets angry at Barou, plays soccer for him (at the start), wants piggyback rides, lets him pet his head... It really feels like while Reo needs Nagi more, Nagi admires Reo more, trusts him more, has more faith. It's quieter, but arguably more intense. (Reo fell first Nagi fell harder agenda) He actually seems to have an idealized vision of Reo in his head - An example of him thinking of Reo as greater and more perfect than the real person would be when he tells a despairing Isagi that Reo wouldn't act like this, and then epinagi jumps straight to a despairing Reo. Nagi really thinks Reo is more perfect than he actually is. Rose colored glasses. Wonder how this would interact with Reo's perfectionism.

There's that one interaction with Zantetsu I really like where Zantetsu asks him why he plays football and Nagi replies that its because of Reo, and all he's doing is tagging along. Zantetsu recognizes that Nagi, the hassle guy, is certainly doing a lot for Reo and asks what's so great about him, to which Nagi replies that its the first time anyone has been interested in a slacker like him

To which Zantentsu responds " ...You're down bad for Reo a wierdo." and "You're so loyal don't seem like a bad guy".

There uh wasnt really a point to that. I just wanted to talk about it because the respect they have for each others motives lives rent free in my head. And I think its interesting how Zantetsu immediately gets how much Reo means to Nagi, but Reo still doesn't understand after all this time.

Something I wonder is if part of the reason why Nagi is so bad at communicating and anticipating Reo's emotions is because he was apathetic and friendless for so long - disconnected from the world. Or well, I do theorize that part of his communication issues come from talking exclusively to a cactus for awhile.

Episode Nagi vs. Blue Lock

One image that I think really illustrates the difference between Epinagi and the main manga is Isagi's flabbergasted face when Nagi is having that moment with Reo where his hand gets slapped away.

He's so confused because they are not speaking his language. Reo's all like "you didn't choose me" And Isagi is like "And what does this have to do with soccer?"

Meanwhile once Reo switches gears to "I'll crush you" (expressing some form of ego/competition) Isagi is back to being the soccer manga MC.

It makes me wonder tho what's in store for our duo. Because in the main manga, they're back together, but they're not doing so great (if you look at the greater picture). There's tons of foreshadowing that Nagi is meant to fall from grace after reuniting with Reo, with Ego saying he'll get overconfident because of that dangerous goal, and Agi saying he's lost interest, as well as Isagi himself saying that there will be no more miracle goals. In the context of the main manga, it seems like while being a duo makes Reo and Nagi happy, its bad for their football. In the grander theme of Egoism, Reo seems doomed due to playing for Nagi instead of himself (tho this may not be as much of an issue due to his goal not being becoming a striker necessarily), and Nagi seems doomed because he's so comfortable with Reo that he won't experience despair and grow. The solution to this seems to be another fight or separation, maybe from Reo this time (thus breaking my heart).

However, from Episode Nagi's perspective, them being together in some fashion is integral to Nagi's goals. The manga starts with a remark on Reo's effect on Nagi, and so a permanent separation seems unlikely.

So is the ReoNagi duo good or bad for their soccer? It may function well if they reach some sort of arrangement that satisfies the ego rhetoric of the main manga, though I'm not sure what that would be. From the perspective of the main manga though, I can't see the duo ending well. From the perspective of Episode Nagi, however, their duo has to be maintained. It feels like two contradicting forces pulling at each other. How could this be resolved? There are some possibilities.

One possibility (though I don't like it so much) is becoming egoistic rivals who play together and push each other to their limits. The reason I don't like this is because this concept of rivalry and devouring is too similar to the main manga, and its kinda boring for a spinoff to take so much effort to just tell the same story in a different font.

Another possibility is that they fail in the main manga, and the spinoff is a tragedy about how Reo's discovery of Nagi doomed his soccer? Not a fan of this one because it would make me a lil sad. Though maybe it would be paired with the emergence of a friendship or relationship (I am not optimistic enough to hope for romance so at most hinted) that does not rely on soccer. It'd be a cool subversion, if a bit unsatisfying to see their dream abandoned. Honestly, I'd find this kinda path to be very interesting, but it seems to risky for it to actually be taken. It would explore the negative impact of tying your relationships to the sport, and suggest a mindset of happiness above mindless success. Seems risky though... very risky and subversive. And given the codependent nature of some sport duos, very satisfying to see the necessary separation of sport and friendship explored. Taking a positive spin, that would mean that because Reo is the one that nurtured Nagi's soccer genius, Nagi doesnt become the best soccer player but he does end up being happy :)

Another possibility would be Nagi just straight up leaving Reo and keeping him in thoughts only. That would hurt tho. Make me sad and depressed. I dont know if Reo could survive this.

Maybe Reo learns to motivate Nagi by becoming so good that now Nagi has to chase him instead of the way it was the other way round before. Not a fan of the manipulation undertones to that, so it may depend on the execution. Also just doesn't make much sense to me since it doesnt seem sustainable. Though maybe it could just be Reo learning to give Nagi more space to grow, and their friendship could just mend on the side separately. That could be nice.

Something else that doesn't seem likely to me, but I would like is for the point of Episode Nagi to be for Nagi and Reo to disentangle their situationship from its dependence on soccer, freeing them to be individual egoists while not necessarily pitting them against each other as rivals. This allows them to develop by the standards of the main manga, though it does make them a bit boring since they wouldn't really be taking an alternate path to star strikerhood. I like this path though because disentangling the situationship from soccer would have to involve them COMMUNICATING THEIR FEELINGS such that Nagi understood Reo's needs/insecurities and Reo understood Nagi's devotion. Reo would get affirmation that regardless of his performance, Nagi would still be his partner outside of soccer. And Nagi could be his, but outside of soccer. And they don't need each other. They want to be around each other. And I also think that a story leaning away from the codependency could show that once you realize you can function without the other, it makes it all the more meaningful when you choose to be together anyways. Because it's not a need, but a want. A want powerful enough to last. 

But that would really solidify that Epinagi is not about soccer, and while I joke that it is not about soccer, because it really doesn't feel like it is, I cant quite trust that it isn't because it is a spinoff of a soccer manga.

Something else that could happen is Nagi finding that his ego is realizing his and Reo's dream.. something that is romantic, but given how his ego and interest was kickstarted by Isagi seems a lil unlikely? But not impossible. Just because it was kickstarted by Bluelock doesnt mean it can't manifest and be fueled with Reo. ehhh idk if this really fits with the concept of Ego tho. I also feel like this won't force them to communicate or help Reo be more focused on his own performance, as opposed to only Nagi's goals (something I think he has to do, since serving Nagi makes him predictable and is reminiscent of that transactional relationship thing I mentioned earlier that he should probably learn is not the case). It would be consistent with the start and focus of epinagi tho.

At the end of the day, I don't know what will happen. Sure is fun to theorize tho!! :D

Nagireo, Reonagi

From a shipping perspective, I think their relationship is so interesting because its so complicated, and influences their lives so much. They are also polar opposites in a way that highlights their personalities. I think a meaningful exploration of Nagireo inevitably becomes an exploration of Nagi and Reo as characters. I'm not usually a fan of the miscommunication trope, but its a little different with these two because it really makes sense to me that they would miscommunicate- in fact, it seems inevitable that they would end up misunderstanding each other. Because of that, the misunderstanding feels meaningful instead of frustratingly inserted or forced.

Nagi idolizes Reo because Reo saved him from apathy. And because Nagi was apathetic and disengaged from society for so long, his communication skills suck, and he probably has a habit of not putting as much effort into conversations. When you combine those things, of course Nagi would act like Reo can read his mind.

Reo is used to getting what he wants, deems anything below genius boring or lame, and thus doesn't necessarily think highly of himself despite his accomplishments and hardworking nature - especially if you take into account his upbringing and parents. He feels trapped, and finds freedom in playing soccer with Nagi. With the transactional way Reo views relationships (I wonder, what it means for someone who views things as transactional to give so much to someone?) , and his perfectionism, it makes sense that the moment he wasn't the center of Nagi's world, he'd come away with the most despairing interpretation. An interpretation Nagi would be really bad at correcting.

So really, a misunderstanding feels inevitable with those two. Reo assumes the worst, Nagi is the worst at anticipating that and correcting it.

Despite that, I really like them together, not because they're the most functional, but because they care about each other. I really get why Nagi would be so grateful and devoted to someone that helped that drowning dull sense of apathy subside, giving him a chance to live an explore a world that didn't previously feel like his. And I really get why Reo would crave the freedom that Nagi granted him by making soccer possible for him. And also I think he kinda likes how much of a loser Nagi is lol, because its unconventional, and therefore interesting.

And I also get that sense of insecurity and drive, like if you fail you're nothing, and all your relationships depend on your success and ability to prove your skill - if you can't do the thing you're worthless and if you're worthless you're alone.

And also the loneliness of apathy, the sense that you're in your own world and there's no one around..

And I really feel like that devotion could help heal that wounded pride, and that sort of gleeful drive could really drive the apathy away...

The comfort in that is precious, I think

the only part of the karin filler episode that i strongly disagree with is what her life was like in oto. in my opinion the episode focuses too much on her healing abilities which wasnt why orochimaru valued her at all. its something kusa horribly took advantage of because they didnt see karin as a person but orochimaru had no need for that when he already had kabuto. karins sensory abilities are much more valuable to him since only one of her can guard an entire prison (efficient). which is why she was the warden of the southern hideout.

and that responsibility implies a certain level of trust. we know karin doesnt Fear orochimaru the way suigetsu does, so i really dont think she was treated the same way she was in kusa. and i do really believe orochimaru keeps his promises to an extent. he is genuinely charismatic and a LOT of people worked under him willingly. so other than some early testing to understand this ability that would have been explained to her and that she would have given consent to*, i really do believe he would have kept his promise to not let anyone else touch her and give her a safe place to exist in.

now of course we also know karin is not that loyal to orochimaru. that kind of background and protection from him could be enough for her to worship him the way kimimaro does. but well ultimately karin is just not that important to orochimaru that he would put on as much of a show for her as he did for kimimaro. and we cant forget that 1) orochimarus chakra is crazy disgusting and oppressive, and thats the first thing karin feels. its how she identifies people. no matter how good he could be to her she knows instinctively that his true nature is completely wicked, so it would be hard to truly let down her guard around someone like that, and 2) he did very much involve her in human experiments lol. she is not into that stuff like kabuto is. its traumatizing. that kind of thing sours a relationship pretty quickly.

all in all. i just think its nuanced. oto isnt just "prisoner going through hell" and "loyal followers who worship orochimaru like a god and see him as a savior and parent". shes just one of the many people in oto who are there to survive. i think its a choice everyone in oto who isnt blinded by orochimarus charisma (or into the whole vibe) makes at some point. to turn a blind eye to everything going on there and not make waves for their own safety or personal gain. to participate in it because outside would be worse, or they dont want it to happen to them

hello there dog!!! firstly, i just want too say im incredibly proud too see how far you have come, dialtown is so special too me, and for not only that game to be so loved, but also for you too be so involved in the community, is amazing keep up the great work! i do have a question, i am working on a theory pertaining to my favorite characters gingi/milton, and if i may, i have a couple questions about him specifically, if you don't mind of course :) 1. what made you come up with the design/personality of gingi?

2. what are your personal feelings/thoughts on gingi? are you satisficed with them as a character? or are there anything you wish you could change now? 3. this is a wierd one but, gingi generally does not really care what he looks like/what others think, so im really curious why hes so meticulous with making his phone/type head, and if he is so bent up about it, why not try to get someone like Oliver to make him a more proper one? instead of replacing the rotten flesh over and over

1)Design for Gingi was primarily based on Frankenstein's aesthetic applied to a the chupacabra. Personality was largely ripped from quite a few unpublished stories/ideas I had before making DT. There's a few protagonists in other things I'd written as potential new game/story ideas that are eerily like Gingi.

2)I'm really really happy with Gingi as a character and I wouldn't change anything that I've established. I like how Gingi starts the game and changes by the end because it's pretty vast, but also not a complete change (and it happens very very gradually.)

TBH, outside of Gingi's interactions in DT, the fandom doesn't really know anything concrete about Gingi due to Gingi's poor memory. Until Gingi formed real human relationships, there was nothing to anchor to, just fragmented and barely remembered individual interactions. Honestly, the bigger picture is really interesting and I'm very happy with Gingi as a protagonist and I'd love to make sequels to DT as I've had concrete ideas for where the character would get up to in potential sequels for years now!

3)Gingi's flesh-head is a bit of a mystery. Gingi doesn't have the same adverse reaction to rotting things that most people do, but does have a general chip in its shoulder about being judged as lesser by others. Gingi (generally) does not make efforts to change its appearance to be seen as less repulsive by others, as we can plainly see from the fact Gingi often forgets (or refuses) to wear clothes.

4)I have all the main character date of births written down, so I could tell you Gingi's exact age... but it's more fun if I don't.

FOR MILT:

1)I'm not really sure why the wiki says that. There's no canon materials that state that Crown + Milt had an affair together. I think someone just read between the lines and stated their hunch as a fact.

2)Norm and Milt met but didn't know each other well. There was a cut mention of Milt in Norm's dialogue, but after a lot of head-scratching, felt the topic was too forced. Norm wouldn't have volunteered the information unless it was relevant to the scene and Gingi would not have asked.

3)Mingus knows about Milt, though not intimately. The only person alive during Mingus' lifetime who could've talked about Milt to her was her grandmother Marla, who was a husk of a person for Mingus' whole life (and in particular, talking about Milt would've hurt too much for her given their closeness.) Mingus knows about Milt from her obsessive study of her paw paw's presidency, but not much more than any historian/social studies teacher would. A lot of information I'd consider very important about Milt was never put to paper.

4)I'm not 100% sure why the fandom likes him as much as they do, given how little of him the fandom has seen (and how little information there is about him out there so far.) I just wanted a few references to him included in canon so I could potentially reveal more about him one day without fans wondering how this SUPER important character had never been mentioned. It's incredibly likely that I'll show more of Milt in future DT stuff due to how instrumental he was in Crown's decision-making + rise to power. There would be no practical way to expand on Crown without discussing Milt more.

There's a much bigger picture that the fandom hasn't seen much of that Milt is very important to, though it isn't often relevant to the modern day events of DT. Understanding Milt isn't important to understand DT itself, but is to understand both Crown and exactly how the world (and by extension, Dialtown itself) ended up exactly the way it did. And with time, I will discuss that some more.

But also. gill and mirabelle to a degree. being chosen . that idea of "people think im chosen for one thing but its actually this other thing that im too afraid to tell people" . aroace <3 . that religious guilt of "why was it me. surely someone else could have handled this better" and. feeling the weight of their world on their shoulders. the elders and the head housemaiden .

more chip stuff .something abt. loop being so upset that Sif is the one who. succeeded and the one who got his happy ending despite how Loop could never even. beat the king. is so chip to me. i dont know How to explain it but its so. chip almost being? angry at himself that. after all that pain he endured at the hands of price and to an extent the black rose. all it took to be happy was finding two strangers and letting them in. also that is very sif to me also

also i think about Siffrin and Bonnie’s relationship (post-eye injury) a lot. And i do think Bonnie and Ollie are relatively similar. I do think Ollie would have a similar reaction to learning about Chip’s ‘death’ that Bonnie did to Sif’s eye.

as for odile and jay i have less thoughts but jay being torn between land and sea, pirates and navy just like how odile is torn between ka bue and vauguarde. odile thinking her vaugaurdian roots would Suddenly Make Sense and she'd find that lost part of herself to no avail . jay feeling like shes always been distant from her family and not that perfect child .wishing she could have that just like Ava had . the two ultimately finding themselves with new companions and family in this foreign place.

now you and xiao have been dating for a few months, and you both agreed to not tell anybody about your relationship as you both knew about how crazy xiao's fans were.

there are/were situations where fans would come over to their "idols" home to do stalk them or break in, harassment basically.

you and xiao did not want that to happen at all.

neither of you guys wanted to be hurt or have the other be in danger so it was best to not tell anyone about your relationship

it was quite hard to conceal your relationship, xiao really wanted to take you outside, to show and tell the word that your his but he couldn't, and you know why.

also since xiao always streamed on a daily basis with you, that meant you two had to refrain yourselves from flirting, teasing (to an extent) and hints. oh and pda.

this went on for about a few months, but that all changed, for the better and worse.

one day, you were eating lunch at your house along with xiao, he was sitting next to you munching on his meal

you were scrolling on tiktok, just watching whatever was on your fyp when you stumbled upon a tiktoker talking about how in a few weeks a football game would be playing in a ground/stadium that was just a few hours away from your home

you stopped scrolling, you checked the comments, everyone seemed hyped and excited for this event.

for a few minutes you contemplated whether or not you and xiao could go, as these past few days you two haven't gone anywhere, well you couldn't really anyways.

but still!! it's good to go out once in a while...

while thinking, you forgot that a special someone was also in the same room with you, and with the same person talking over and over again from the tiktok video, xiao turned his head to look at you, quirking his eyebrow.

you were staring at your phone, watching the video and scrolling on your phone (checking the comments), your head resting on your palm

"y/n? you good?" xiao asks, no reply. "y/nnnnnnnnnn?" he asks again, this time waving his hands to catch your attention

and it works, you snap out of whatever your doing and look over, only to see xiao staring at you, looking at you with confusion and he looked, concerned.

your mouth opens but nothing comes out, your throat felt dry. why. but anyways, after a few seconds you could finally talk.

"yea, im fine." you state before looking down at your phone, the tiktok was still playing. "i was just uh, thinking, do you want to go to the football event? it's only maybe a few hours away from here.. plus! fresh air.."

xiao doesn't say anything, his face droops. he only gives you a devastated look on his face. you pout, wanting a response. "yes or no?" you question

xiao gets up from his seat and walks over towards you while sighing, you're watching him, wondering why he's going over to you

his hands are behind his back, once he's right in front of you he sighs, again. you raise your eyebrows and with that he reveals to you what he was hiding, two tickets.

two tickets to... a football game? your eyes widen in surprise but that doesn't last very long when he speaks, "i was going to ask you today.... but you asked already so, here." he murmurs before handing you the ticket, you take it from him, looking at the ticket you smiled.

you two were finally going to spend some time together!! in.... a very crowded space, it's going to be noisy and smelly, and that's for sure.

but you and xiao are finally going to go out so i guess no complaining.

also when did he buy that ticket.

fast forward to the day of the football game, you have your phone out, checking the time there and then to make sure you two weren't going to be late

xiao packed the tickets into a small shoulder bag along with some water and sunscreen. what? it was going to be a hot and sunny day.

after packing everything, xiao went up into your shared room to start changing into his clothes for the day, upon opening the door he sees you in your clothes already, you were wearing a short sleeved t-shirt with shorts.

you held a zip up jacket just incase the weather forecast was wrong.

getting up from the bed, you went over to xiao and gave him a kiss on his cheek before getting out of the room

xiao was smiling like a mad man when you kissed him, oh the things you make xiao feel.

closing the door behind him, he quickly changed into your picked clothing. once seeing the clothes he was going to wear made him... want to cry.

it was a t-shirt with the photo of you and him kissing with the sentence "CHOOSE ME FOR THE KISS CAM" under it.

he felt his cheeks burn, slapping his face he sighed, he didn't want to let you down so...

other than that he wore cargo pants and of course, a jacket just incase the weather turned hot.

exiting the room, he walked down the hallway and standing at the end of the hallway was you, you had your phone out, it was as if you were waiting for him to come out in that position from the very start to end.

xiao's eye widened when he saw the phone and ran into the room next to him but it was already too late. by the time he saw the camera and ran you already took a picture of him.

he skipped over to you, leaning over to see how the pictures turned out, the first one? oh yea, he looked like a model. no matter how silly the clothes may look, but the second? god damn😭

xiao laughs a bit before stopping. he squints at your phone, your eyes follow his and you see that he's looking at the time.

the football game started at 1:30 pm, it's 11 am now. you and xiao turn to look at each other, your eyes both scream "WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE."

where the football game took place at was about 2 hours away from your place.

you and xiao were going to be SUPER late if you went any later then 11 am, you and xiao wanted to be on point.

rushing out the door, xiao went over to his car and clicked the key, he opened his door but after opening it, he stops and runs over to your side, your about to open it when your lightly pushed away by him

"ladies first" he states, opening the door he stood on the side so you could have space to go in, you roll your eyes playfully and get in, xiao closes the door and runs over to his side.

getting into the car and driving was maybe the most stressful thing that ever happened to you, ever.

there was not a lot of cars but your car wasn't the first in line, maybe the first 3 or more.

you really didn't want to miss this football game, it was going to be the first outing for this week with xiao, you didn't want to miss it, at all.

xiao sensed how you felt uneasy, and to ease the uneasiness he puts on some music, xiao connects his car with his phone's bluetooth

while the red light's on, he passed you his phone, "you can pick the songs :)" he mentions before getting back to driving when the green lights turn on.

you smile and nod and put on your favourite song, at this point you didnt care if the volume was loud or not, you wanted any of your negative thoughts gone.

after the drive, xiao parks the car and you two hop out of the car, there was other people walking towards the stadium where the football game was going to be played at.

xiao held your hand as you two walked over to where the door was that lead into the stadium

you two had to line up as well. and the line was LONG. you and xiao had to literally RUN to get to line before anyone else did, because if they did that’s just even more people to wait before it’s your turn.

and once you two started to run, so did the others. but luckily xiao is fast so you and xiao get to line before others did.

where you stood wasn’t so far to where to security guards were, after waiting for around 20 minutes it was finally your turn and you opened your bag, grabbed the tickets and handed it to the security guard who looked at your ticket, flipping it front and back before giving it back to you and nodding

you and xiao said your thanks and walked into the ground and was it large. bigger than you thought.

there were already hundreds of people sitting down at their designated seats, xiao grabbed the ticket from your hold and stared at it, he squinted his eyes while walking forward and pointed at the seats a few feet away from where you two were

it was a little thing only you and him could understand, others wouldn’t but you two sure did.

you giggled before tightening your grip on xiao’s hand, he walks over to where your seats are and you two sit down.

more people started to pour into the stadium and sooner or later all the seats were filled.

1:31 now, suddenly the speakers turn on, a man speaks, saying that the game will start in a few minutes and that there are food and drinks coming around

fast forward to the game, everyone’s screaming, yelling, some are even crying.

some screaming from happiness or rage, some crying from sadness or happiness.

and honestly, you two started to scream and shout as well.

you two don’t even know any of the teams, except for their names as it was on the big tv.

you just asked someone next to you who was winning as said it was the red team and you told xiao, and now you two are screaming for the red team.

xiao was obviously getting annoyed when the red players kicked the ball but missed the goal. totally understandable but to him, it was outrageous, how could you just let down your fans!?!?

after hours of yelling your throat started to feel dry, but xiao was still fine, and still screaming.

then the players got their break and then the tv changed screens, it was a red screen with the word “kiss cam” on it, you and xiao knew this well.

it is, as it says, a kiss cam. the camera randomly picks two people, strangers or not and if they’re in the heart or just in the middle of the screen they have to kiss.

you smirked at xiao and pointed at his shirt, he looks down. he almost forgot. he looks back up and rolls his eyes

you crossed your fingers. please work!

a few people got selected, and once they kissed the whole crowd laughed or awed.

then, to xiao’s horror and to your excitement you two got on the screen!! you and xiao were in the heart, the people around you two shook you and xiao, some were cheering and there, somehow, was some people saying “wait...” as if they knew.... us.

you smiled at the camera before looking at xiao, xiao was in shock at first, but seeing how smug you were getting he loved hated it.

he smirked at you and pulled you in for a very, very deep kiss.

you could hear the claps of everybody, everybody around you and far away from you. you and xiao smiled in your kiss and that made many people awe.

after letting go a few people that were like 5-9 seats away from you called out xiao’s name. xiao and you froze.

xiao slinked back with you following his move, “shit.” was all you could hear from xiao before he grabbed your hand.

“we have to go now, i know today was meant to be a good day but we don’t know if those fans are nice, leave now?” he asks, holding onto your hand, waiting for your answer

you didn’t want to leave, really. but for the sake of your and his safety you complied and you both stood up and walked out of the stadium.

you could hear the voices of both girls and boys screaming xiao’s name, and your name occasionally.

when other people heard your and xiao’s name they all stood up to look if xiao and you was really there, and you two were!! instead, running to the entrance(exit??)

the fans pulled out their phones and started to take pictures of you two, without your permission.

some started to even get out of their seats and run towards you, that makes xiao run even more faster, you were stumbling there and then from how fast xiao was running

you could still hear the people screaming out your names.

it scared you honestly. once you two reached the entrance, the security asked why you two were leaving, you and xiao told them your situation and the security actually felt bad. they let you two go and stopped the fans reach you and xiao.

your heart was racing, so was xiao’s. everybody now knows that you two are dating, what will happen to you and xiao now?

you two now needed to give out a official “we’re dating!!” message to everybody now.

what about the fans? are they going to break into our house? stalk us? dox us? send us threats? try to sabotage our relationship?

all those thoughts scared you and xiao.

you both reached your car and drove off.

adrenaline was still in your body, you were breathing heavily, sweat beads sliding down your forehead from all the running and the stuffiness in the podium.

reaching your home, you immediately went to the couch and flopped down, too tired to deal with everything. xiao followed you and patted your head.

he sits right beside you and kisses your temple, “i’ll handle it” he whispers before getting up and walking up the stairs, presumably going to his streaming room to do whatever he was going to do.

xiao stated, on every platform he has (twitter, discord, instagram, youtube, tiktok, etc), to not harass you or him and to not take pictures without permission and if they do, there would be consequences.

he even makes a full on youtube video about it. how it can really affect the lives of the people who are being stalked. how it must be scary to be doxxed, to not be safe.

xiao is absolutely devastated. how this date was meant to be cute and all, but ended up with you feeling terrified of your and xiao’s safety.

in the end, xiao makes sure to make up for this terrible outing, maybe going to a more, secluded places. a picnic maybe? cinema? crocheting class?
