i've seen a lot of disappointment over how alicole developed this season by people who expected a more noble, more romantic version of their relationship when it finally came to pass and i think that no one feels that way more strongly than alicent and criston themselves. but imo it didn't turn out that way because it couldn't turn out that way for them because of who they are and the world they live in. but i still find their attempts to live up to these standards impressive and commendable and i think that they also see that in one and another and is a reason why they love each other (even if i dont personally think that they are in love with each other). ironically it's precisely these attempts to be more than they are that often get them so much hate from the fandom and the other characters because it is percieved as them being hypocrates by believing in one thing and then doing another. which is a valid reading and something i think they are aware of and eats them up inside

cassidy got his tattoo first because ashe was afraid of the gun. originally she got just the skull & print then added the roses & thorns a few years after they split

before cassidy was publicly part of overwatch i like to think ashe & frankie tried to keep tabs on him but couldn't due to overwatch's high security. they only found out what happened to him after him being an agent was publicized

as above, i don't think they actually got much of a chance to say goodbye. blackwatch was a very undercover org. so ashe most likely has no clue why he left, she's especially not aware of the fact that he left to keep the rest of the gang from rotting in a prison along with him.

GOD I LOVE BÔA!!! they also made duvet so she might also like that. also imo she’d be a twilight fan (the movies/books) so yknow.. name is fitting. she’d probably listen to it while placing a curse on someone or summoning bahpomet or something.

i LOVVEEE lana del rey she’s my favourite person ever, id sell my friends and family for a cup of her bath water. sorry i get weird with her 😭 anyway!! call me biased but i hc ymir as a lana del rey fan. she’d also like A&W by lana. she probably listens to her mostly while drunk, she’d be yelling (yelling. not singing. yelling.) the lyrics. she’d be so loud u can’t even hear the song anymore.

i love NIN, especially that song. and so would floch! not for the right reasons tho.. if a pretty girl walks past him he’d play the “i wanna fuck u like an animal” part and mouth the lyrics. he learned from his mistakes after his second visit to the police station. he doesn’t learn enough tho because he constantly corners girls and says “hey girl.. u wanna the song closer a reality? heh.. together..? 😏” yeah he probably has an STD he was gonna pass onto those poor girls. (good thing they have enough sense to say no)

hange- 19-2000, gorillaz.

idk i think she’d like whimsical and strange songs like that. i tried to pick a more mainstream one in the hopes that u know it.. time will tell. if we’re being honest she would listen to “unidentified creature eats u alive asmr (u enjoy it, 18+)” or something like that instead of music in her free time (no it doesn’t exist.. or at least i hope so)

marco- mr.loverman, ricky montgomery.

isn’t he just the sweetest. i don’t care for marco he’s just there but for some reason i have the urge to hc him as a barb.. his fav nicki song is def super freaky girl.. idk why. anyway back to mr.loverman!!!! he would also like line without a hook by ricky (it’s that one “she’s a she’s a lady” song) he’s like one of 5 ricky montgomery fans.

i love miche he’s so underrated, we didn’t get to see a lot of him so i don’t have much to base his music taste off of. but this is what i decided on.. yeah it was 100% based on his looks. i would’ve liked to give him a spanish song cuz i hc him as having a bit of latino in him but i think hey sexy lady is spanish enough for him. maybe he’d like gasolina by daddy yankee. (okay you HAVE to know gasolina i’d be so surprised if u didn’t)

he’s the one who introduced elvis to levi but i think sway would be his favourite. he doesn’t have a lot of time to listen to music so when he can he pours himself a nice bottle of wine usually reserved for the military police, locks himself in his office, and (very fittingly might i say) sways to this song. he usually ends up spilling his wine but he has too much fun to complain.

i'm in agreement with what you've put on your blog about hermitcraft not being an rp server- it just isn't and i'm kind of sick of new age mcyt fans treating it as such. i am curious though about where you draw the line (or even if you do draw a line) between rpf and "character" fanfiction. as you've mentioned, fans are the ones taking the improv bits in videos, creating their own "lore" out of it, and shipping those characters together. obviously, the lore characters are very much linked to their youtuber counterparts, but it's not like most hermitshippers want the real life grown men and women to kiss each other or even are referring to the actual flesh and blood youtubers in their fanmedia (the term cubito from spanish mcyt/qsmp folks comes to mind). do you personally consider this to be rpf?

the rpf topic in this situation is veryyyy hard to make a conclusive answer on and the one i make is one i think people shouldnt take as fact, everyone can decide personally what it means for them. my constant mindset, due to the subjective thoughts, just ends up being "is it rpf? maybe. i dont know. i dont care anymore" but i can explain more of what i really do think

considering i came from 2011~ minecraft youtube there was no concept of "characters" for youtubers outside of blatant series like... shadow of israphel and a bit later, lords of minecraft. there was nothing comparable to what we have today in terms of roleplay. they were still The Person just in minecraft and many of us back then, myself included, called it rpf. and we even wrote fics outside of the minecraft settings-- we wrote stuff in the real world, but it all just looked the same to us because we did not have any separation between a person and a character made out of them. it was the youtuber to me, whether or not i throw them into a lore heavy high fantasy AU (which i did lol), it did not come off any different to me than the fics written about them chilling at minecon.

i took a number of years away from this fandom and so the change like... oof it was a lot to understand. it confused me a lot (still does), i did not at all get this idea of separating them into their own character. the thing is, the extent to which people do so is again, subjective.... but for the most part the point nowadays is to say its not the Real Person at all anymore, even if the difference is only that there is absolutely no mention of the outside world and it is often heavily enforced to remember it is Not the real guy.

and thats where it just gets complicated. whenever i write i always generally imply its a game. and if its not a game i still think of it as guys playing a game. they are behind a screen and i may even reference the real world. so for me? yeah, its in the vein of rpf if we're looking at it that way. people who create a fictional realm with the guys made into characters that fit into this crafted world, well i guess its not... or is it?

the whole topic of saying hc isnt roleplay isnt to scare everyone into realizing they were writing rpf the whole time. but kinda to say- one stop being afraid of the label rpf. and two honestly i define "rpf" fandoms as a fandom built around real people. mcyt is built around real people. no matter how much you do make a character out of the youtuber its still in many regards.... the youtuber.

so yeah this isnt a conclusive answer some may want. short: it is always rpf because i define rpf as being a fandom based around real people. when it comes down to specific content (headcanons, fics, art) its totally fine and makes sense to not consider it that individually but in an overall sense i would categorize it as such because i also grew from an mcyt fandoms who saw it that way

(the asker from before) Thank you for the notes. that is really weird though, what is so wrong with "wakarazuya", unless its a bad word there shouldnt be any reason it can't be translated close enough in ENG? yeah, before too i meant, there are fan commentaries with small translations and people post them to different groups (+Facebook?). i can't translate good but i've never heard of something like this happening before with CLAMP? I dont agree on every view on Kaito too but, yeah it's weird...

I avoid by now all fandom spaces, so I've never seen these kind of posts, but I remember that (when I used to stroll around more) I had seen an FB group making their own scanlations in Latin American Spanish (not Spanish from Spain, basically, which is the official translation CLAMP is uploading on their Youtube channel).

It wasn't exactly great, that's not legal and all, but someone explained to me that the two Spanish languages are different, so....I guess it made sense that the group was doing that.

There was just a tiny problem...that group used the English translation as a base, therefore passing all the mistakes into their own scanlation 🙈That was...so frustrating to see. Because fans were doing this to feel more comfortable reading the chapters in their own language, but inherited all the translation mistakes from a version they thought was legit and official, but actually was very flawed. I remember I was so frustrated to see that happening.

Hmmm, "wakarazuya" isn't a bad word, indeed.

If your question is "why did the ENG translation mess that up?", unfortunately I cannot give a definite answer, but I can try to infer it from what I've seen in the past....3 years? Yeah, ever since I started paying attention to the English translation.

First of all, some mistakes are purely for carelessness.

Some of the mistakes they make are so basic level (they misunderstand one word for another, or make typos, etc) that I really believe a simple check would already fix many of those.

Then, this translation seems to have a bias against the new characters.

I don't know why, but they seem to believe that if they make these new characters sound more arrogant (or bearing more negative feelings than necessary), they'll be more interesting.

Kaito in particular, as you well know, is quite an arrogant character in the ENG translation (all that unnecessary use of "kid", "child" in a dismissive tone when he's talking with Syaoran is really unsufferable to see...none of that is present in the JP version and he actually seems to hold lots of respect for Syaoran from the way he talks about him). I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that this biased translation might have contributed to make him be hated more than necessary by the international fandom. I don't mean that he's an angel in the original JP, japanese fans are quite irritated with him as well, but there's also a component of benevolence in that irritation, it's more like "why are you acting this way? Instead of trying to reach happiness for yourself too?". It's like they're scolding a mischievous child, literally. Lately they have started to call him 赤ちゃん, "baby", because he's totally immature.

I can't count how many JP fans I've seen along the years getting angry at Kaito, but also wishing him to be happy.

This, instead, very rarely happened with international fans. I see more pure, genuine hate towards him.

But I digress.

Momo, in some scenes, suffers from the same bias too.

She sounds more nasty towards Kaito than necessary. Once (chapter 43) they've put a "You fool!" in her mouth, while she was talking to Kaito, that she absolutely didn't say in the original. It might be a small irrelevant thing, but added to all the rest, it contributed to paint a picture that simply isn't corresponding to the truth. That's why for long, long time, many fans abroad didn't even realize that Momo truly cared about Kaito in her own way.

Now, onto our wakarazuya, this is a word that indicates someone who, no matter how much you try to convince them, won't listen to reason. They're impossibly fixated over their views. Not because of ignorance, but because of stubborness.

Those words they used to translate that term ("blockhead", and even more "dolt" from Lilie) have a connotation of telling someone they're stupid, along with "stubborn", and CLAMP didn't like that. Momo knows Kaito is not stupid and he isn't acting like he's acting because of stupidity.

I admit I didn't even think much of this particular translation when chapter 70 came out (my tears were busy somewhere else...) but apparently CLAMP didn't miss the subtlety and had a bad feeling about it, so they pointed it out. Though they seem to be aware that it's apparently very difficult to translate this word in an exact way in English.
