i hate it when people gas up posse and bat’s discography and then throw in bb needs to change up their sound as if posse doesn’t have 3 bubblegum pop songs rebranded and bat doesn’t have 3 spoopy songs of the same vibe 😤

𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐍.
you were out of this world. literally. you crashed in mondstat with no recollection of yourself. your name? you didn't know it. your birthday? nothing. all you had were the clothes on your back. completely defenseless, you were approached by the knights of favonius who brought you in for interrogation. and before you knew it, you were questioned by a guy with a careful demeanor and another with a love for 'subjects'. kaeya x fem!reader x albedo.

darkness. nothingness. everything was the same. there was nothing to hold, nor see. nothing to smell, nor taste ... but the feeling. it was cold. it was something that you could grasp so easily. cold. and that was all. what was this place? was this heaven? hell? were you ... even alive? these questions grew apparent. were you even alive?
" oh come now, you must be eager to dance! come with! " a man called out, as music blared in the town of mondstadt. the night was young, and so were the drinks that were shared. the smell of fresh sticky honey roast and the beautiful live music from local bards made the entire town light up. everyone danced, sang, and clapped. couples held onto one another, and children danced as best as they could to the lively beat. a few swirled a drink in hand, faces flushing red from the intake. " my, my, it sure is lively this evening. " kaeya hummed, hands resting on his hips. " it is lovely. " jean nodded, her arms crossed as she watched the others enjoy themself. "and you aren't going to feast on the night? it will not remain this way forever you know .. " kaeya questioned the grandmaster with a sly smile. he already knew of her answer.
" i shan't. " jean shook her head, her golden ponytail swaying ever so nicely, " i fear that something may happen and i will not be able to do my job properly. therefore, i'll have to sit out for this. " jean concluded her thoughts, her smile growing a bit wider.
" now don't be so harsh on yourself sweetie ... " lisa emerged from the side, a glass of wine in hand and a sway of her hip,  " the evening is lovely. though, i'd much rather be resting myself. " lisa grinned, and stood beside jean, " but you , " she gently bumped jean in her hip, " you should relax for the night. everything is fine, and it will be fine. don't let me entertain myself now. " jean sighed softly. " that's an excellent idea lisa. would you mind babysitting her, for a bit? show her an excellent time out there. " kaeya butted in.
" what!? babysit ? i'll have you know - " jean began to counter them, but lisa easily interlocked their arms together, " i'll be sure to take good care of our acting grandmaster... " and like that, she was swept away into the crowd of dancing people. after all, she did need this moment. kaeya stood there, dwelling for a moment longer before he headed back into headquarters. once entered the building, the music muffled. the singing, clapping, and chanting hushed. it made him frown only for a bit before it vanished just as quickly. he proceeded to his office.
though on his way there, he could hear a few 'clinks', and soft humming not too far from his office. the source was from albedo's office. the door was cracked, a subtle light coming from the room as well, " and then razor found dodoco for me! hehe, isn't he amazing!? " klee spoke happily, sitting in the nearest chair as she swung her legs back and forth. " indeed he is. i'll send him my thanks for that. " albedo replied, tinkering with a few chemicals and writing it in his book. " well aren't you working hard ... " kaeya hummed, knuckles brushing against the wooden door as he leaned on the doorframe, " you two are remaining indoors for the evening? "
" master jean put me on time out earlier. she found out about my fish-blasting again ... " klee pouted, her leg kicks growing bigger. " oya? " kaeya hummed, gesturing behind him, " what a shame. it's lovely out. have you learned your lesson, then? " he asked her and she quickly nodded, " i did! i promise i won't blast any more fish! even though ... it was a lot of fun... " klee blushed in a bit of embarrassment and kaeya chuckled, " excellent. now, go on. i'll have your back. enjoy yourself out there. "
klee gasped and quickly jumped onto her feet, " thank you sir kaeya! bye mister albedo! i'll see you later, 'kay!? " she waved grandly, and albedo looked over with a faint smile, " of course. have a good time, klee. " and he returned back to his work. klee rushed out of the room, and ran down the hall of the building to enjoy the world outside. " and you, mister albedo? " kaeya added on, with a tilt of his head.
" i'm not interested in social outings. i'd prefer being here working on my research," he didn't bother looking up, " hearing the events from outside is enough to make me feel included. " albedo replied.
" that's right. you aren't all that social, " kaeya nodded, " well, try not to push yourself too much this evening. if you're up for it, we could grab a drink a bit later if you're free. "
albedo remained silent. " i'll be leaving now! " kaeya smiled, and albedo nodded. " have a good evening~ " and kaeya shut the door, returning to his office. it was silent there. and he had a wonderful view of the town. it was nice, and yet, he wasn't out there.

the stars glistened and gleamed in the clear sky. the moon complimented them, and the breeze was as relaxing as ever. the stars twinkled, and a few falling stars shot through the sky. however, there was one that seemed brighter than the rest. it burned like fire, and unlike the other stars, this "star" seemed to grow closer. and closer. until it crashed in front of the large tree in windrise and the anemo statue.
" sir kaeya! " a knight called from outside of the cryo user's door. " enter. " kaeya spoke calmly as the door swiftly opened, " there's been a reported issue! " well that piqued his interest. " it's important, sir. something ... no, someone , fell from the heavens. " the knight seemed a bit uneasy, and yet kaeya stood onto his feet without further question, " take me to the scene. "
said scene was located in windrise. the grass that was once there was burned away, and particles of rock lay scattered. ash emerged from the scene; incredibly thick. there laid a human - body covered poorly by white fabric. there were minor cuts, and bruises, but nothing that couldn't be fixed. they grew completely conscious of their surroundings. greenery. leaves. the howling wind. the smell of oak and lemongrass. people ... knights ... evil? you held onto the worn-down cloth tightly as you watched these people surround you.
" halt! do not move from your spot, please! " a man ordered, not that you could understand in the moment. these people had weapons ... and you felt a bit threatened. scurrying backward, your body covered in ash, and smoke getting in your lugs. you coughed, completely desperate for air.
" ah, sir kaeya! " a knight called out as kaeya made his presence known. with his sword attached to his hip tightly, he advanced through the line of knights. he held a serious expression until he made it to the front, and your eyes met his lone one. and his expression softened. why? you were terrified.
you weren't a threat.
despite your choking, you kept your eyes on the man, until your vision began to blur. tears formed in your eyes and your attention was then shifted on yourself. your coughing had you at risk of vomiting.
" water, " kaeya snapped his fingers, " get her some water. " there was a quick 'yes sir ' before they scurried around to find a water source. luckily, someone kept a water pouch on their person. " here you are, sir. " the pouch was placed in kaeya's hand and he uncapped it before approaching you carefully. kneeling down, he offered the pouch for you to take.
" here. it's water. take it. " you were hesitant at first, but then you eventually gave in. accepting the water, you quickly began to drink. " relax now. wouldn't want you to choke. " his voice was gentle. oddly. it was nice to listen to. you downed the entire pouch, and he merely took it back and stood on his feet. " are you able to stand? " he peered over you, and you looked up at him. you nodded and rose to your feet.
even so, he offered a hand to you, and you looked at him skeptically. accepting the offer, you took it. after all, you had no reason to resent him. he did nothing but help you. " sir kaeya, " a knight called, and the 'pirate' looked over, " here's a blanket. " he offered said object, just something to cover your nearly naked body. " ah , thank you. " he nodded, and carefully draped the blanket over your shoulders. tan fingers trailed over the hem of the fabric and gave an affirmative tug, " all set. let's get going. "
you didn't know where he was taking you, but you knew it would be foolish to go against this man. there were so many guards with him, so you figured that this was the only option. your feet planted in the grass, as you looked around at the tall buildings. as you grew closer to them, the music grew louder. it was relaxing, and you felt moved by the rhythm. you entered the city, and you weren't looked at too much. everyone was enjoying themself. you looked around, eyes sparkling under the lamps of the night. that is until you found yourself met at the stairs that led up to hq.
you were led up by a few knights and ... the pirate. you couldn't catch his name, but you shivered once you entered. " kaeya! " jean called out, and you turned to look at the woman. she seemed a bit worried, and yet upset. " i heard what happened and came quickly. " she nodded at kaeya, as if she were praising him for his work. he handled the situation very nicely, and she was thankful that he did. and then her eyes glared at you, and you looked away, moving a bit to hide behind kaeya.
" please fill in me. i've contacted the sisters at the cathedral, they'll be on their way. " jean mentioned. she realized how tense she may have come across, and she sighed a bit, " i'm sorry. you must be a bit shaken up. " you finally looked at her, and she loosened up quickly. she placed a hand on her chest, " is it ... true? that ... you fell from the sky in some kind of meteorite? " she asked the big question, and yet you refused to answer.
kaeya confirmed that fact with a single glance. " do you have any idea where you are, then? from your attire ... " blue eyes eyed you down, and jean frowned softly, and sighed. " forgive me. this is improper of me. " she apologized swiftly, " i'm jean, the dandelion knight. you are currently in the hands of the knights of favonius; of mondstadt. " she introduced herself. " the young man beside you, is kaeya, the cavalry captain. " your eyes looked over at him, whom merely smiled. " and this ... is lisa. the librarian. "
the goal for jean was to help you establish your grounds. to make you feel comfortable. " before i question you any more, i would like to tend to your injuries. they do not seem major, but i do not want them to go unattended. followed with this, i'll offer you proper attire, and a meal. does that sound alright? " her tone changed quickly, and you wondered if it was okay for you to drop some of your guard. you nodded your head in understanding, as another young blonde enter the building.
" this is barbara. she will be the one tending to your injuries. " jean was swift to motion toward her, and she smiled. " it's nice meeting you ... " barbara smiled, and approached you, " please don't fret. i promise i'll take excellent care of you! " she was nice. you stared at her, and returned her smile. she was kind, and you trusted her. barbara carefully took your hands into her own, " i'll lead you to the washrooms, and tend to any wounds you may have! " she instructed, all while pulling you away.
jean sighed softly, rubbing at her temple, " i knew it. " she sighed, " something happened, and i wasn't there first. " she frowned, and lisa placed a hand on her shoulder, " but you are here now. we are all here to help. besides, i think kaeya did a lovely job in your place! " she tried to uplift the blonde, and kaeya chuckled. " do i not receive any praise from the acting grandmaster? "
" no, no , " jean sighed, " your performance was outstanding. i thank you. both. " she smiled softly and took a deep breath.
the issue is only that you were nameless. you didn't speak, and you didn't have a vision. was this really the right thing to do? then again ... humans are not birthed from the stars. were you even human? where did you come from?
could you be trusted in the walls of mondstadt?

Finished my first week (I don't go in on Fridays) of Commute Listening! (Plus a day technically because I did have to go in last Saturday.)
Here's the summary of the undertaking so far...and of just how much car/public transit time I've logged:
Bach's Brandenburg Concertos 1-6 My beloveds--the only classical music that IS for sure on my faves list, because in the period when I had a CD player in my bedroom and about three CDs, these were two of them. Still not sure how well I could identify them, but I recognized them once they started playing and greatly enjoyed them.
Artifexian podcast ep 1. Interesting! All about worldbuilding. Just far enough removed from my own interests (yes I love fantasy, no I don't enjoy worldbuilding, it took me years to process that) that I can listen as, like, a spectator, but also listening to two people who do love worldbuilding makes me feel more positive about it. Like the energy.
Several Masses by Haydn (St. Cecilia, Mass in B flat, Mass in honor of the Blessed Virgin). Beautiful, obviously, but... did not grab me. Might just be that Masses and commuting are not the right combination. Might be my chant-inclined mind going "you're drawing out the words too much." Idk.
Art of Manliness ep 1, about Easy Company. INteresting and informative—a window into a subject I wouldn't have sought out on my own.
Out Alive ep 1. About a skier buried in an avalanche! Again, not something I would have sought out myself, but hearing the skier and the other people involved talk about the impact of a crisis situation and near-death experience, without any polish or dramatization... oof. Really interesting.
Reply All Billed as a "podcast about the internet," the first ep was about a social situation enabled by the internet. Also interesting as a window into someone else's personal experience that I don't think you'd quite get in any other medium than this unpolished interview format. This time about relationships instead of death, though.
In the Wind (album) by Peter, Paul and Mary. Branching aside from classical for some folk, since I was in the headspace for something between podcasts and instrumentals. Good! I recognized several of the songs but definitely not all. They also reminded me of several other country and folk artists I could listen to if I want to keep going down that road, in addition to listening to more of their work.
Vivaldi Concertos for Diverse Instruments GOOD. I loved these! They got stuck in my head afterward! Definitely want to try more Vivaldi. Also reinforcing my theory that any kind of music is good music if it involves violins going wild.
Mozart Violin Concertos 3-5 ALSO very very good. And I think I could hear the cleaner/plainer sound of Mozart as opposed to the baroque I'd just been listening to.
My Writing Sucks podcast ep 1, in which an author lovingly roasts her 14-year-old self's writing. Very fun. Endearing. Kinda makes me want to pull out my oldest, worst writing and approach it from an outside perspective, which I think would be Growth if my fragile ego could actually follow through on that. :P Maybe after a few more episodes of this.
Pints With Aquinas episode 1. This is an introductory episode giving background on Aquinas, as opposed to later episodes which will have more actual theology. Already good, though. Little harder for me to stay focused than some of the more fun ones, but I'll be coming back.
Classics for Kids Short and educational segment about classical music. Definitely told me things I don't know! A little short and a little flat in delivery for my needs, but good stuff.
Stuff You Missed in History Class ep 1. Interesting, but same issue as the above—it was just short. I need to check if episode length varies, and if they're all short I might load up six or so at once to give it a better trial. It was interesting but I couldn't get much flavor from one segment.
In conclusion, this project is definitely a success so far. I've been enjoying my commutes even when there's traffic, and I feel like I'm taking in things that I enjoy and are constructive in some way! It's fun for me. And I have a bunch of podcasts in store for next week that I haven't even touched yet.

Louis Tomlinson's Silver Tongues: Exclusive first listen to latest Faith In The Future single
On Silver Tongues, Louis breaks new ground sonically while embracing more abstract approaches to songwriting
By Carl Smith
When Louis Tomlinson spoke of his latest single Silver Tongues earlier this year, he had a certain sparkle in his eye. Explaining it's his 'favourite' song on upcoming album Faith In The Future, released this Friday, Louis told us it's a piece of work he's 'immensely proud of.'
Today, Silver Tongues finally becomes yours.
At 2PM GMT, Louis will release the song that, in his own words, made him 'really confident in what's to come.' And he was kind enough to give us an exclusive first listen of the single.
Written alongside Hurts' Theo Hutchcraft, The Courteeners' Joe Cross and David Sneddon, Silver Tongues is a soaring statement of self-expression; but that isn't necessarily apparent from the outset.
Some lyric spoilers ahead, just FYI.
The track begins with Louis' vocals atop a sparse piano melody, not too far removed from that of Walls album track Fearless. Delivering a vocal drenched in confidence, the unlikely subject of the song soon becomes apparent.
"Air Maxes with silver tongues, settle in for another heavy one," Louis sings; the lyrical content a sharp contrast to the instrumental.
Louis' incredible growth as an artist is already noticeable here. He's taking risks, avoiding the obvious and embracing more abstract approaches to songwriting.
Then, 30 seconds in, Silver Tongues takes a complete 180.
Shifting sharply from ballad-esque chords to an arresting, upbeat guitar riff, Silver Tongues sees Louis break boundaries sonically. While pop-rock sensibilities are certainly synonymous with his solo music, this track steps that sound up a gear. Or five.
"You know it’s times like these we’re so much happier. Nights like these, we’ll remember those stupid jokes, only we know..."
Now we're in proper, stadium rock territory.
"You know when I’m with you, I’m so much happier. Nights like these, we’ll remember those songs we wrote, only we know...You smile at me and say ‘it’s time to go,’ but I don’t feel like going home."
Not entirely dissimilar to a football chant, Silver Tongues' chorus is truly anthemic; akin to that of his 2017 single Miss You. It's safe to say this song will shine in a live setting and prove a standout on Louis' 2023 tour.
What follows post-chorus is a raucous piano and electric guitar-led instrumental that's perhaps one of the most euphoric moments across Louis' entire discography. This isn't where we saw the song going based on the opening verse, but we're certainly not mad about it.
As we enter verse two, Louis' inimitable Doncaster inflection comes out to play.
"You said grass was a dirty drug, you like to preach with vodka in your mug. I love other things, you know, but I’m king on a 50-metre rope."
Louis' artistic development is clear once again; something he attributes in part to Silver Tongues co-writers Theo, Joe and David.
Speaking to OfficialCharts.com, Louis explained: "Me, Theo, Joe Cross and David Sneddon did a writing camp together, and what was great about that was that – from the off – we were all on the same page.
"Theo is vastly intelligent and an incredible writer. Even just being around these people, getting into their brains and taking on their different ideas; I’ve learnt so much more making this record than I did the first. That’s purely from being around the right kind of people.
"I'm a massive fan of both Hurts and The Courteeners. Even the fact they were willing to work with me, I was buzzing about that. We’ve got some really great songs out of it."
On his love of Silver Tongues, Louis elaborated: "It’s one of the first times that I’ve written a song that I could definitely imagine myself listening to, had I not written it.
"The track’s very much in line with what I listen to and love musically anyway. Writing that made me feel really confident that I was writing the album I wanted to write. I feel really confident in what’s to come."
Louis Tomlinson's Silver Tongues is released at 2PM GMT, November 9. His new album Faith In The Future is out this Friday, November 11 via BMG.

"The Movie In Progress" — A Review of Volcano by Jungle
by La Roza Negra (They/She)
Having always been big on discovering new music for myself and sharing it with my friends and community accordingly because not only do I have a deep-seated love for music, I've always considered myself open to new possibilities. So color me surprised when a Band/Production duo that's been making music since 2013 barely finds my ears a decade later, with a sound that's still so striking and inventive that I'm able to feel genuine surprise?
Without too much knob-slobbing on the subject because I really had THAT much of a good time, I had the absolute privilege of exploring the mind of Jungle, with their August 2023 release of Volcano, a body of work I feel can only be described as a soundtrack to a contemporary love story, and I'd like to take you through the story I envisioned track by track. Let's get into it, shall we?
1.) Us Against The World
For starters, the choice to open a traditional album which is a rarity nowadays with not only a whole song but one that's three and a half minutes long at that is a very "hit the ground running approach that comes off as ballsy, but it definitely paid off.
The track rings so strange sonicaly from the quirky bassline that immediately calls you to attention, to the song itself and the instruments selected to accompany the track, and the choice of vocal effect's to play up the raspiness in the singer's voice juxtaposed with the clear/clean background vocals & overall vibe of the song. It feels like a moment of escape and playful liberation from reality, which is represented as well in the choice to go with jazz and modern/contemporary choreography as the dance styles of choice. As styles, both are very fluid, expressive, and improvisational in execution, the driving force being the song's overall theme versus the rhythm like most styles, often having to feel your way through. What's worth noting is that it requires immense control (and in some cases the yield of) to freely move your body in such manners, which adds a lot of context to the experience of the music.
This song is the beginning of a story where we meet a character and discover their personality but also establish that they're on what is to be a city escape of sorts, noting the importance and cultural context that disco was developed in spaces with predominantly people of color. We open with our players and Main Character (referred to as MC henceforth) and company embark on the beginning of their adventure, likely making their way through town, whether it be a shopping excursion, preparing for a big event, or just an excuse to be outside. There's wandering that happens in this song and uncertainty to where you'll land.
youtube
2.) Holding On
First and foremost, let me commend the seamless transition between the opening track and this one. It both fits the narrative (which we will get into later) and sonically raises the energy from the room, as this is a party song.
The tempo of the song, the pulsing kick drum and bassline, and the chant-like verses that consume your body and involuntarily cause you to shake, it invigorates the vessel and compels you to dance and not only dance, dare I say dance provocative because this song is notably very "cunty." I use that word specifically because, especially further made apparent in the video with a change in the focal dance style.
While the modern/contemporary elements are still present in the player's dancing, the characters in focus: the femme figures in the video, are dressed in absolutely stunning ensembles and have broken away from the theme of the company, focusing and leaning into the vogue dance style which is also indicative of the type of music in play. It's a Black Ball, with the various femmes representing different categories varying from Sex Siren to Soft & Cunty (hence the choice in verbiage earlier.) The nods to queer culture and incorporation of the impact in the storytelling isn't missed on me.
Speaking of the storytelling, because I'm invested in sharing my vision with y'all– picture this: Our MC has transitioned from their day/early night adventure with the company into the nightlife and the party is RAGING! They get into the space and the energy of the room washes over & consumes them, captivating them in a way they were unprepared for and taking them to the dancefloor to be absolutely carefree. MC and company are the moment and everyone is there to make their night.

3.) Candle Flame
Continuing the theme of transitioning from one track to another, we slow it down a bit with Candle Flame, however there are a few notable differences about this track compared to those prior.
I can't say definitively that there's light interpolation of the song, "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman, but I do feel as though there's inspiration guiding this notable poetic and romantic track. Carrying the poetic element of this song is what I can only describe as a Rap Ballad akin to that of "All I Need" by Method Man, with Erick the Architect narrating the nervous jitters of making way for a new opportunity at love on the horizon. It's a very adolescent energy carrying this song that I can only describe as your first College Spring Break. It's all new and different, there's permission to really come out of yourself and not only have a blast but steal a moment in time and lock it away to microdose on later once it all ends.
At this point in the story, in all the dancing and excitement, across the dancefloor, our MC encounters someone's spirit beckoning them and drawing them in closer and as they begin circling each other, falling deeper into the rapture of infatuation at first sight. There's no words being shared, there's only the rhythm, the lights, and the heat of passion setting the stage for body language to carry this conversation.
Tumblr media
4.) Dominoes
This track, while definitely in-era, has to be my favorite thus far as it taps into the big-sister genre from the decade prior with a funky soulful Motown-esque groove that can only be described as whimsy and bliss. We've slowed away from the dance intensive tracks and gotten more into a cruising vibe. It also does wonders for expressing the new chapter in the narrative being conveyed. I think it needs to be studied how on instills so much character into a song with so few lyrics.
Romance has arrived in the story. The dancing was a thrill but the sparks between MC and their new Boo are definitely set ablaze. They decide to cut away from the party, MC likely shooting company a "Don't wait up" text and disappearing into the night to make their own fun, leading to wonder and discovery for them both. Maybe they went somewhere quieter like a late-night diner where they could talk & get to know each other better or maybe they're just out for a night drive/stroll while Boo shows MC the city life from a different perspective, as Boo is clearly a local in this story. It only makes sense. Either way, the flame is struck and we now get to watch the fire burn between them.
youtube
5.) I've Been In Love
There's a return of the Disco elements, but also a notable difference to the funk from the last song and this song's venturing more into Tropical Funk & Reggae themes in this rap track along with the casual narration stye rap from Channel Tres that successfully captures and emulates the slow free falling feeling that comes from falling in love with someone for the first time.
The story has made apparent at this point that there's an evident relationship now established between the both of them and they're not fighting what's there. Time, reality, and all sense has been thrown to the wind as they just let go and act on intuitions. Now, depending on what we've heard so far, it's up to the listener to determine the rating of the production, but in no uncertain words they've likely spent some time together and also *ahem* intermingling. With respect to the poetry aspect, I think it's safe to say our love birds have– as Shakespeare would say, "made the beast with two backs." They're in the throes of it now and I love it for them.
Tumblr media
6.) Back on 74
The song that got me here in the first place because of the iconic choreography snippet that went crazy on TikTok. It definitely fits the trend, but also with regard to the video, the commitment to the 70's theme in every step of the way: the direction & filmography, production, costume, makeup, hair, and set design to compliment the song and choreography is just *chef's kiss*.
The song itself pivots into a kind of Doo-Wop style with the singer's light voice walking us through a funky groove that feels like a reflecting point as there's a lot of air and openness on the track that makes it feel like an internal thought or memory. I like the simplicity of the song too because it feels like a break from the intensity to really take in what the singer is saying as well. It's like taking small bites of food, you take it all in and unpack it better so it doesn't feel overwhelming all at once.
As for the story, we've reached the inevitable conflict/drama scene. It’s definitely nice to feel vindicated in my interpretation of this music watching this video all the way through as I’m reacting and writing this review. Our MC and Boo have reached a point of turmoil where something has soured in their new relationship. I suspect Boo’s life in the city is catching up with them because both the lyrics and the themes presented in the video don’t read like there was an outside force bearing on the two of them. I won't follow the video's direct storyline, but I’m definitely seated and roped in now mostly because I've watched this (imaginary) couple come to be.
youtube
7.) You Ain't No Celebrity
The whimsy has returned!! Though this feels like we've registered into a separate segment of the album entirely, arguably a B-Side. Sonically, this is the most distinct track on the entire album, as I'm not certain what genre this fits into.
From the lyrics and production, I would label this like Funky Alanis Morrissette EDM. Also that switch-up at the end of this song is too groovy, it feels like a reprise to the original, especially considering the chaos in the first section and yet it's a welcomed part of the track.
This is the part of the story where the MC is really tearing through the conflict that’s bubbling between them and Boo now & the tensions are high but the former feelings are what’s making the tensions so intense. There’s madness, hope, frustration, pretenses, and expectations that are all circulating at once. Are they gonna make it? I’m gripping my seat! This may not be the intended story but this is my story now. I’m too deeply rooted into it.
Tumblr media
8.) Coming Back
We've began incorporation more of that Tropical Funk from the first half of the album, but I feel like there's a subtle African influence in there too. This feels like progress but also a callback to the first half. Is it a mirror or what's going on here...
There’s been some time and there’s an evident shift/change in both our players but they’re back now to the same forum and approaching the dance with a new style. What will come of it this time, who knows because there’s a touch of history now and still the unresolved tension from before but they’re at least back together in some capacity, whether it’s love or war. What will happen before the clock strikes?
Tumblr media
9.) Don't Play
We've got back to the basics in the themes because we've approached the disco again. I feel like I called it, these songs are a different scope of the first set of songs that have a re-imagining of that sonic narrative.
Our lovers are figuring it out! Not exactly the same way as before as the previous rift was likely trauma or bad habits from one of their pasts that cause them to forsake or poorly navigate the new relationship developing before their eyes. Theres hesitation to fall back in but that spark never left, it just got a little to hot to handle at the time. I feel like there's an aspect of the story we're aware of with regard to the time that they're not either paying attention to or talking about and it's giving me a little anxiety.
youtube
10.) Every Night
We've got a modern take on what feels like quintessential Disco: the Bee Gees!! There's some latin elements still carrying the background that I think are providing a sense of modernness to the sound because it's not quite "traditional" latin sounds but it's still growing the intrigue.
MC and Boo have made a declaration of affection and desire alas! A new flame blossoming from the spark, or at least a carnal moment of comfort and warmth between them. Yet and still, not a certain resolution to the problems of yore, but at least vulnerability and space to open themselves up to what once was. Our MC and Boo have a road ahead still it seems even if they have reconnected to some degree.
youtube
11.) Problemz
Continuing in that modernized Bee Gees style arrangement, there's definitely more of that adventure from before but it's more relaxed now I imagine because we're familiar with and closing out the project. Smooth, clean resolutions make for happier endings.
Our players have found some legs to stand on in their mending relationship. There’s communication and honesty that’s happening now and at the very least enjoyment of each other’s company and an acknowledgement of the troubles that have plagued them, although they’re a work in progress. There’s hope in a future with them but for now they’re making arguably a friendship, which I think works because spring break does end after all.
Tumblr media
12.) Good At Breaking Hearts
I love JNR WILLIAMS on here, as his tone expresses the depth of circumstance in the lyrics so beautifully. Like the voice has weight and twang to it that carries the track so far. Also the introduction of what sounds like Sunshine Pop or Beach Music is now a new element that wasn't there before but it still works and doesn't allow me to get comfortable in a nook while listening.
Within the world we've created, ya know, honesty sucks. It seems our MC and Boo are in a particularly precarious position: do they just cut ties now that things are smoothed over from before or just ride the wave out to the shore as they both fear repeating what happened once more. It’s indicative of their care for one another but the care may not carry them through. Plus there's an impending clock on all of this because there is an end in sight.
Tumblr media
13.) Palm Trees
Definitely incorporated those Sunshine Pop/Beach Music elements and masterfully pivoted back to the Disco/Funk core of the album to tie it altogether and it felt somewhat seamless because of the environment and background sounds present in the track, especially at the end. Those waves were a great introduction to this song especially with the name and vibe of the song because this would be played on a beach. It set the scene for us so we didn't have to guess how it all fit either.
Fret not readers, the fears and insecurities they were having weren’t enough to cast it all aside. It sounds like they’ve chosen ride the wave, no pun intended, and just enjoy the time they have left together. Maybe even treat it as a new adventure before them with new eyes. The history is safely behind them at this point because enjoying the party before it's over is most important.
Tumblr media
14.) Pretty Little Thing
A final funky rap ballad to close the album and wrap up the stories in love. The songs took us through a tale with the lyrics but this song specifically had some of the strongest lyrics which is why I feel like the track was stripped down to the simplest production so you can really hear Bas take us down a reflective recap of what all transpired in the narrative. There was intrigue, passion, turmoil, trepidation, communication, healing, and now calm departure into independence again.
To conclude, our MC's time with Boo is up and our lovers have ran their course. Their future isn’t together in this moment, and that’s okay for the both of them because they have two separate lives to lead for now. They loved and cared for each other & built a memory that will never be forgotten, and who knows— maybe there’s still room for them to come back again someday in the future because in the end it’s all love and it’s not about the destination but the journeys taken & the ride there. They'll always have Spring Break.
Tumblr media
Final Thoughts
Actual album review, shenanigans aside: I have no words to describe how in love I am with this body of work. Much like the story I wrote out song to song because I didn’t want to be repetitive and spend each note just singing the praises of the track and losing sight of the actual narrative at play, the album takes you on a journey through love. I gave my own interpretation and visualized it through the lens of a romance novel/film’s plot, but in listening with that perspective, I was able to unveil so many smaller themes within the album.
I find it absolutely fascinating that the music, even when the words weren’t really clear— not talking about diction, referring to the full messaging of each song as they required multiple listens to digest, were still able to speak so declaratively about its basic message in tandem with the other tracks that preceded each song. And much like any good book or film, when it ends, you’re sad it’s over but glad you experienced it & are waiting for the next moment to start it all over to ride that ride once again.
Completely unrelated but um, Jungle if you’re reading this and you want to uh, work with (see: teach) an artist to do what you do, I’m RIGHT HERE!

Album Review of the Week: Jonas Brothers - The Album (2023) ☆☆
After Happiness Begins largely fell flat for me in 2019, I was skeptical of a new Jonas Brothers effort but definitely had my ears open. I was a huge fan of theirs from about 2007-2010 and will always support them! The lead single Wings had a nice hook as they were teasing it but, clocking in at less than 2 minutes (!!) it left a lot to be desired. An aside, I never thought I would see the day when 1950s length songs would be in style again. Less than 2 minutes, really? Dang. It also whips back and forth between upbeat and downtempo which can be really irritating. The next single, Waffle House, did actually get me hooked and I was excitedly cautious - their comment of this album being "Bee Gees" inspired still lingering in the back of my mind in a negative way. I am not a fan of their falsetto tendencies, Bee Gees or JB.
Miracle has a really nice funky beat which is largely marred from that dreaded falsetto. With a different vocal style, this song could have been a banger! Yet, once again, it ends at just over 2 minutes without anything really exciting happening. (please let bridges come back!)
Montana Sky gives a bit of a redemption moment. It has a country flavor that they do actually make work for them and their own style. I can definitely picture myself on a road trip enjoying this song with the wind flowing through the car.
Sail Away has a lot of potential to be a really cool song, but once again it misses the mark just enough that it leaves me scratching my head in confusion. It is clearly attempting to meld together a few different genres and trends but comes across more disjointed than anything. The vocal style is very abrasive paired with the music on this particular track as well. In an attempt to appreciate the good, it does have a bridge!
Americana is an interesting track. Just as I was starting to get into it - IT ENDED!! 2 minutes exactly, with a 9 second fade out. It ends up feeling more like an interlude with the choppy vocal style, attempted rap? and repetitive nature. I'm not sure what exactly is happening, it's almost cool (again).
Celebrate! is a fantastic sentiment, they did go through a lot to be able to come back together. It's just far too cheesy and pleading to be in a commercial rather than a serious song. That's not to say that I expect it to be truly "serious" - my whole taste is "guilty pleasures" and unserious. I just mean an earnest piece of music, not something to slap on a Target commercial.
Back to Waffle House, by far the best track on this album. It has true verses, a dynamic chorus and a clear subject. It utilizes the same chanting you hear in the previous track, but in a much better and more engaging way.
Vacation Eyes sounds like it's right out of the mid-1980s with it's slappy, groovy bass. I'm not one of those people that see music in colors, but this song is definitely a pale pink sunset. It has a nice sentiment as well, I can definitely groove to this track.
Summer In the Hamptons is not my style at all. It's borderline vulgar with obnoxious repetitive instrumentation and a disjointed melody. I suppose that's just what happens when the pale pink sunset goes dark!
Summer Baby is the worst track on this album. The falsetto is out in full force and turned up much too high in relation to the music, either that or it simply cuts right through and seems louder. Still, the vocal melody is disjointed which I keep saying but there is just no variety in how they are singing and we all know they are capable and have the talent to at least give some variety and texture!
Vocally, Little Bird is a fantastic song compared to the rest. They are finally singing normally, although the lyrics are cheesy and contrived. I do appreciate the dedication to their children but it sounds like a 9th grader wrote these lyrics.
Walls is firstly kind of an odd song because at the time this was released they were all married and the longest song on this album, by far, is saying that if "you would ever leave me, the walls would cry"? It is slow, boring and weird. Weird because it has a woman saying one phrase in Spanish repeated throughout and it seems to glitch at one point and get super repetitive. The slowness morphed into what seemed like a rockier edge but I couldn't stand to listen to this album for another minute and a half.
Overall, this is a very disappointing release because I know that they are capable of much better. Nick just released a solo album in 2021 that was fantastic and both Nick and Joe have great voices when they use their proper range. Honestly, I just got frustrated listening to it and couldn't wait for it to be over. Even though this 12-track album clocks in at only 32 minutes, I couldn't wait for it to be over. That's something. There were points when it could have been a good album but just fell flat over and over again.
I did not buy a physical of this album, original images sourced from Discogs.

BIO and creative interest: Sounds and frequencies affect every cell in our bodies.
Tumblr media
I’m an artist and therapist, and healer on a good day and witch spell caster on a bad.   I am currently at UAL studying a BA Sound Arts.  Up until now, my career has been spent working as a therapist and other supportive roles for over 20 years.  I have a daily practice of meditation and creativity whether this be doodling, painting abstract with oil on canvas, writing and Voice recording meditations, short animations and designing therapy self help tools.
My personal interest is in spirituality and the inner dialogue we have between the different parts of self; our mind, body, soul and heart.  I’m  interested in the words we use when we speak to ourselves, the tensions between inner and outer world and the affect this can have in the way we talk to and value ourselves.  I'm also intrigued by the natural healing potential of Voice and certain notes have on our chakra points. I believe that every cell and atom in our bodies are effected by different sounds and frequencies and I am keen to explore this more.
In therapy, one learns that our minds and belief systems are already socially constructed by our cultural place in the world, especially influenced by the early perception of our environment. For example our inner world is affected initially by our parents-caregivers. The first part of our inner world consists of our internalising our parents' inner voices.  Then as we grow up the inner battle begins; between our own emerging culturally shaped individual thoughts-beliefs snd identities and our internalised parents.  We go through, an internal deconstruction process, a reexamination of our internalised parental beliefs.  I’m interested in this process, which of course can be extended to outer societal influences. Our voices,  sounds and the words we speak to ourselves have an important role and a natural healing potential. My exploration into sound arts involves finding new ways to help people heal themselves.
On my foundation at UAL I had three exhibits and won 2 awards for my final year project “Therapy Pod” (2012).  (2015) I designed a CBT and meditation mobile app.  I approach Sound Arts with curiosity but also awkwardness as it is a completely new subject.   I’m hoping to record and create new healing sounds that feel good in my body.  One of my disabilities is that I’m hypersensitive to some frequencies and sounds to the point where they can cause me physical pain.  I realised early on that my hyper sensitivity meant I experienced and felt sounds differently to other people, I felt them through a very heightened embodied process.  I approach sound arts from this place in the hope that I can use my reaction to new and old sounds as a gauge for sounds that offer healing for others.
My spirituality and my inner connectedness influence my perception of sounds and are focussed on sonic sounds that feel good in my body, ones that assist me to feel tuned within myself. My role as an active listener as a therapist for many years was a natural act for me as I find listening to people’s voices and witnessing the act of intimate disclosure reassuring and therapeutic.  I tend to listen to many podcasts, radio 4, Angel radio, 1920's electronic, 1940's orchestral music with song female vocals, classical music or binaural beats and Hindu chanting, Buddhist chanting, Tibetan sound bowl notes with the occasional short burst of disco as well as very selective contemporary artists.
About 13 years ago my interest in finding new sounds peaked after an illness, where I began to experience extreme chronic pain.  I started researching and listening to various healing sounds like tibetan bowls, binaural beats, solfeggio frequencies, chanting meditations, chakra note sounds as a way of shifting my attention away from severe pain.  I've listened to thousands of different mindfulness body scans each asking the listener to tune into the movement, frequency and rhythm of their bodies, whilst hearing a guided voice and background sounds. These auditory techniques and a tuning affect to my body and I found this process very powerful and healing. Over time, I learned how to manage my pain with various sounds and meditations and without medication.   I have not taken any pain medication now for 8 years and I continue to use various tools including sound to maintain this. I wish to explore any works on the frequencies of medication and the effects on the body. I have designed a CBT and Mindfulness mobile application inspired from this experience.
I would like to further explore and record natural brain rhythms. I have listened to different simulated brain rhythm for many years as it was near impossible to transition from waking BETA waves (13-16 hz) to sleeping THETA waves (4-7 Hz). I listen to Alpha waves (8-12 Hz) to assist me to go to connect to theta and experience Delta waves (0.5-4 Hz) (deep sleep).
I began exploring these frequencies and others as background sounds to meditations to help me relax and manage pain.  I look forward to learning more about Sound studies, digital improvisation, interactive programming, radiophonic work and more.  With the Professional Diploma in Apple development I’m hoping to build a mobile app, which will offer exercises used in therapy and voice recorded meditations with background sounds.  Essentially incorporating my new auditory sound practice skills from this course into a product.  I’m looking forward to learning more about microphones and voice recordings for interactive installations and getting familiar with the technical side of sound studies.
Theoretically, presenting a new site for exploration within Sound Art. What would it look like if we included and acknowledged mental health and our inner Voice as a perceived sound space?

Windblume Memories [Genshin Impact]
Tumblr media
Synopsis: “The annual Windblume festival held in the name of romance and freedom! Why not celebrate it with your lover?”
Characters: Kaeya, Diluc
(A/N): A self-indulgent headcanon because Mihoyo has yet to give us more moments with our husbandos. Just imagining them having fun and enjoying, mah heart~~ And no Mihoyo, if you bother giving us their quotes why can’t you just give us a hangout already (cri cri)
------------------------------------------------------
{Diluc}
“I do know how to play music. Is it so strange?"
• As the most eligible (former)bachelor of Mondstadt, it wouldn't be a surprise if he actually knew the ways of an instrument. But here you were, comepletely awestruck while looking expectantly at your fiance.
• "Diluc you're so perfect I love you!" -you probably
• Back in the days when he took his etiquette lessons, Diluc also learned how to play the violin as well as the piano but the lyre was a traditional instrument of Mondstadt so he focused on that the most.
• His repitoire would lean more to the soft and solemn pieces. (Like his soundtracks HA)
• Diluc is quite shy when you ask him to give you a performance but the way you just plead, he can't say no
• If you don't know how to play an instrument, he'll be more than glad to help you. He's an excellent teacher due to the vast amount of patience he has (thought can't really say the same for other people) and could spend hours elaborating on the same place you've been stuck at.
"Why is this song so slooooow?"
"You're being too hasty, love."
• You're worried if he's bored but Diluc reassures that he isn't. Seldom does he have the opportunity to spend time with you like this so he makes sure to treasure every moment (Even when you're about to break the goddam lyre out of frustration).
• But when you do manage to make it to the end after several attempts, albeit still terrible, there would be the stupidest fat grin on your face while chanting, "I did it! I did it!"
• And he'd praise you as a soft expression graces his features, "You certainly did."
• Soft man I cri
"It takes a long period of training to become a battle-ready archer. These games are only enough to pass the time."
• "No Diluc, I brought you here to have fun not to have this as a training session."
• This man can do pretty much ANYTHING and literally win you any prize. You want that stuffed toy? Consider it taken.
• Perhaps the activities weren't challenging enough. Whether it'd be wind gliding or the peculiar wonderland house, he's got the reflexes for it all.
• Since Diluc is so battle oriented, he treats the games as such. You call him a worry wart after falling into the pit just because you steped on the wrong stone: "Diluc I’m fine. Its just a game." He’ll grab you out of pure instinct and apologize shortly after when you pout at him
• Eventually Diluc learns to loosen up while still keeping an eye at your stance. You figured it would probably be best if you two stuck with something more light and carefree. In a nutshell, anything but the peculiar wonderland house.
• At the end of the day, the two of you are exhausted from all that workout. While closing up Angel's Share after a long night, Diluc catches you falling asleep at the front bar and gently drapes his coat over your shoulders.
• His initial plan was to wake you up since the ideal place to sleep would be the Dawn Winery but Diluc didn't have the heart to wake you up. He simply sits on the stool beside you while leaning down to memorize your serene look, thankful to have been able to experience what it's like to live in a city of freedom again.
{Kaeya}
"Oh dear, is this what they call a height advantage? I suppose I can go a little easy on you all to make things a bit more exciting."
• You gave him that look where you weren't quite sure if he was lying or telling the truth. Could the Cavalry Captain be afraid of heights? You'll never know.
• So regardless, you guys decided to fly together which at first was meant to be a competition of who can collect the most flowers. You managed to land safely with the highest score while your boyfriend was still behind, trying to avoid the dusty balloons.
"Seems like I went a little too easy on you," he jests. You roll your eyes.
"Alright, let's go for another round then."
• This time you had a different idea. Just a few seconds before the game started, you took him by the hand and jumped straight off the platform. The whole time as the two of you were soaring through the air, you held him tight.
• "Now it shouldn't be so scary anymore!"
• The surprised expression he had lasted for a moment before melting into a smile, "How very cunning of you, darling."
• Your security gave him the chance to admire the scenery from the skies, it was a breathtaking view. How your hair whips beautifully against the wind and your pink-tainted cheeks from the cold, breathtaking.
• Though, holding the other meant you had to collect the flowers with one hand and one arm which proved to be very unproductive. Even once the both of you landed within the garland of windwheel asters, Kaeya was still holding your hand.
• Kaeya often treats fearful situations as thrilling experiences but the outcome in the end turned out to be more favourable than he had initially planned it to be. Though if you’re a novice windglider beware, this man will let you go at random times just so he can see your reactions.
"What an interesting diversion. Since everyone's in high spirits, it would truly be a shame if I didn't pitch in a little!"
• You were extremely curious of Kaeya's musical skills since his nature tends to lean towards the frivolous side. Unexpectedly, his tunes and playing style sounded melancholic as well. Most likely due to the fact of growing up in the Ragnvindr household.
• Since he hangs out at the bars during late nights quite often, Kaeya would know how to play a few tunes he picked up along the way. He would love to give you a full on performance! Anything for his sweetheart~ Though keep staring and you might find him teasing you about it after.
• Honestly Kaeya also makes an excellent teacher. His way of wording makes everything so easy to understand which is helpful to avoid silly mistakes. He teaches you very simple lyre pieces, brushing his fingers over yours every once in a while to help you adjust the right position.
• You think he's doing this on purpose to get you bothered but Kaeya simply feigns ignorance.
• But if you do know how to play a lyre, it would be a session where both of you share your songs. Out of all of them, there was one song that stuck out the most:
You felt a sense of longing in the tune Kaeya played. Far too slow to match the upbeat atmosphere of Mondstadt during the day and not as romantic as it would be during the night. Instead, it seemed to reflect the emotion of sadness, like hands reaching to a far away land which turned out to be nothing but a mirage.
"Where did you learn that piece? I never heard it before," you comment shortly after he finished.
Kaeya hums playfully while shooting a grin to match, "I composed it myself."
"Is that so?" You learned to not take everything at face value when talking to your lover, "Then where did you draw your inspiration from. It doesn't seem like you'd create it on a whim when your expertise lies in swordsmanship."
"Aha just when did you become so keen sweetheart?"
"Since I started dating you."
"Touche."
There would be a momentary pause and during times like these, it was easy to tell that the subject was related to his homeland. Kaeya always found it hard to bring up the topic, even before he met Crepus, music was one of the very last traces that tied his life to the scarce warms days of Khaenriah.
"What's the song called?"
Thankful that you changed the subject, Kaeya answers, "Frozen Dreams. At least, that is what I can remember."
"Frozen Dreams?" You pondered quietly, "I wonder what that title means."
"Do you like it that much?"
"Of course, that piece must be very important to you right? I would like to learn it," You pump your fists determinedly, I would like to learn about you as much as I can.
He looks at you, lips slightly parted at your genuine declaration. Although you may be tenacious when it came to his secrets, Kaeya did not doubt that it was also one of the quirks he loved about you most. With a small chuckle, he complies your request, “It would be my pleasure.”
Sometimes its best to leave the words unspoken. Perhaps another day when Kaeya feels ready to tell you everything, for now he will revel in the present where the intagible feelings of music and emotion do the speaking.

Top five musical numbers?
this required me going spelunking in my head so I could remember musical numbers...limiting myself to one per musical because otherwise I could just make this whole list Hadestown
I’m sure I’m forgetting something here that I will remember the moment I hit post and go “wait but what about” and I’m just going to have to live with that.
1. "Wait for It" from Hamilton. I feel like liking Hamilton is sort of no longer in vogue around these parts. But here I am, and this song in particular is just...it’s so good. It’s so good. Probably my favorite from the whole musical, though there are a couple others that come close. Wish my vocal range was right to sing along with it properly.
2. "Phantom of the Opera (Overture)" from Phantom of the Opera. I’m going back for this one. I wasn’t going to put any Andrew Lloyd Weber on here but you know what, the Phantom of the Opera theme remains a banger regardless of how I may have cooled on the rest of the music from this musical.
3. "No Good Deed" from Wicked. The anthem for performative villainy! I could’ve chosen a couple different songs from Wicked (and thought about a couple other ones) but ultimately I decided this one for the subject matter even if there might be songs that I like marginally more.
4. "Nobody's Side" from Chess. Wildcard!!! I don’t think about this musical very much but I think about this song specifically a lot.
5. "Now That the Chips Are Down" from Hadestown. I went back and forth on which song I was going to choose for so long, you guys, and I got thisclose to going with “Chant I” but ultimately this is the song I get extremely hyped about in a way that I compulsively sing along with at least a portion of it. So you know. There you go. (Also considered “How Long?” and, to be fair, “Wait for Me” in which latter case I would’ve had two “wait” songs on this list. Which would have been kind of funny.
honorable mention to “Merrily We Roll Along” for songs that destroy me far and away beyond their actual content but because of the association they carry (me sobbing in a London pub at midnight about loss of friends and artistic integrity).
also shit I forgot about Jekyll and Hyde completely which is one of my favorite musicals aslkdjflskdjf okay I just need to stop and accept the imperfection of this top five list as not totally comprehensive

I worked for four seasons at an outdoor living history museum.
I once locked three boys in a historic jail cell to show them how the mechanism worked, believing I knew how to open it again. I didn’t – and neither did anyone else in the building. I have put out three fires while clad head to toe in historic pioneer clothing -and one of those fires was a piece of artifact furniture I accidentally set alight myself! I once got trapped for half an hour under a stairwell because I was the wrong time period and couldn’t let the visitors see me.
I have fielded every unexpected question under the sun without dropping character – “Are those real horses pulling the wagon rides, or are they fake?” “Ha – you expect me to believe they had photography in the 1920’s?” “If Jesus is God but his mother is Mary, how can God have a mother? And why did he need to become human? And why did he need to die?” (Awesome questions, child – just not what I was expecting while interpreting a pioneer railroad townsite!) And I’ve enjoyed every kind of visitor under the sun – those who are there to try to trip your up and prove you don’t live in 1895, those who want to be your character’s best friend and ask you soul searching questions and won’t leave your living room for an hour because they are loving the conversation so much (I love you, visitors of this kind), explorers who want to know what beneath every trapdoor and inside every cupboard (I love you too!) people who turn out to be the great grandchildren of the character you’re playing, photography enthusiasts, people who don’t really want to you to talk, but just make them feel that they’re welcome to keep looking around without feeling awkward about it, experts who know far more on the subject you’re interpreting then you do (who are extremely daunting when you realize what they are, but who usually turn out to be kind and lovely,) and, of course, the people who poke their head in the door, say “Hm, it’s an old police station,” and immediately move on.
I have taught people to operate telegraphs, to make chickens come on command, to foxtrot and charleston, to pinch pyrohy (you may call them perogies!) to sing ancient chants, folk songs, and early twentieth century musical hits, to play card games with dubious names in Eastern European languages, to build the historic equivalent of hobbit holes, and so much more.
I have gotten to the end of a day absolutely soaked and covered with mud from washing laundry the old fashioned with literally 2,000 children, internally swearing that I will never work this job again, and wandered over exhausted to another interpreter’s historic kitchen, where the fire is crackling in the stove and rhubarb pie has just come out of the oven. And they tell about how they just helped 2,000 children cut out paper dolls from the Eton’s catalogue and they never want to touch another piece of paper again. And we eat the pie and tell the stories of the day, and stop complaining, and laugh our heads off over the hilarious moments, and play a round of that ancient Egyptian game there was a craze for after King Tut’s tomb was opened (because if anyone walks in, it won’t matter, because the game is historic) and have a blast until it’s time to give the house a last sweep and clean out the ash drawer in the stove and walk to the train platform where the other historic interpreters are gathering to walk offsite together over the beautiful land bridge across the lake. And by then I’ve completely forgotten I’m all wet, and am certain I have the best job in the world. I mean, I get to wash laundry the old fashioned way with 2,000 children!
Someone asked me to share a bit about what it’s like to be a first person living history interpreter at a museum. There’s much, much more to it than I think people assume on the surface, and the techniques are extremely different depending on the philosophies and practices of the site you’re working at. I want to give you a little window into what my experience was like – tell you some stories, reveal some things that might surprise you, give you weird tips you’ll probably never use but might enjoy knowing. I don’t mean to do this on any kind of schedule, but if people enjoy it, I love talking about it. If you have questions, my asks don’t work, but you’re welcome to message me or leave a comment!
Net time, I am going to talk about the crazy behind the scenes world of what we did in the three weeks before we even opened our museum for the summer season.

Welcome Home (Part One)
Tumblr media
(NOT MY GIF)
Summary: After not speaking to her brothers for over a year, Peyton Rhodes’ life is turned upside down when her boyfriend of four years cheats on her. She uproots her life with WWE and returns home to Atlanta. She finds herself among great friends and she is finding herself again after being lost for so long.
WORD COUNT: 2,624 (well shit).
Pairings: Cody Rhodes x OFC (Sister), Brandi Rhodes x OFC (sister), Dustin Rhodes x OFC (Sister), past Seth Rollins x OFC, future Kenny Omega x OFC (maybe?), MJFx OFC( maybe?) Could end up being Matt Jackson x OFC (who knows) let the writing gods surprise us.
WARNINGS: explicit language, mentioned cheating, possible future smut (Warnings are subject to change as I continue writing and will be updated as needed).
A/N: This has been a WIP for over a year now. This will be multiple parts. It will be a slow burn. (MAYBE) I’m a sucker for the friends to lovers trope. Please do not think that this reflects my feels toward a certain wrestler (Seth). This story is strictly fiction. I do not own any of the characters except for my OFC(s). Please, please, please, give me feedback. I’m slowly working myself back into the fanfic world. <3
“Cody was right.” I cried as soon as my brother’s wife answered the phone. I hadn’t spoken to my brothers since they left WWE. Cody was upset that I wouldn’t leave with him. Brandi was my way of communication with them. She’d call at least twice a week. This week was different.
“I caught him. I went to congratulate him after his win over Finn and they were,” I sniffled, hurt coming over me again. “It was Mandy. I thought she was my friend.” I explained to my sister in law.
“Pey, I am so sorry. Please come home. You know AEW has a spot for you whenever you want it.” Brandi offered. It was the same thing she said to me every week, but now I’m ready.
“I just don’t know why.” I cried. “I was the perfect girlfriend. I basically put my career on hold for him. I thought he was, I thought he was it for me.” Brandi had said that they were going to be home for Cody’s birthday in a few weeks and invited me to come to the party.
“I’ll talk to Hunter.” I choked out.
Luckily, my contract was almost up and as soon as Vince heard I didn’t want to re-sign, he settled for my release. We didn’t have the best relationship, but Hunter advocated for me stating that it was best for the company as well as myself. He knew the situation and didn’t blame me for wanting to go.
I knew I had to go back one day. I just never thought it would be this soon. I parked my car in the drive. I could hear Pharaoh announcing my arrival before I could make it to the door. I made my way up the sidewalk to the porch. I took a deep breath and knocked.
Brandi opened the door immediately. “Well I'll be damned.” She said, “I can’t believe you came!” I smiled, embracing my brother’s wife.
“Like I would miss my big brother’s 35th birthday.” I lied and she knew it. If Seth hadn’t cheated on me, I wouldn’t be here.
Brandi led me inside where there were some guests who had gathered in the foyer. Brandi introduced me quickly, leading me through to Cody. “Hey, babe. Your surprise is here.” Cody, who was standing by the fireplace, talking to Dustin, turned and saw me.
Awkwardly, I raised a hand to wave. “Hi.” I whispered. Cody sat down his drink and walked over to me. I expected him to cuss and yell, but instead, he threw his arms around me, hugging me tightly.
“Peyton, I'm so happy you’re here.” He whispered. Dustin came up behind him.
“Long time, no see sis. You know, they invented this thing called a phone. You should look into it. Call your big brothers sometime.” Dustin fussed before hugging me too.
“It is really good to see you guys.” I tried to hold back the tears, but some escaped anyway. “How have you been? AEW has really taken off huh?” I said making small talk.
Cody nodded, “Yeah, I have the best business partners. I can’t wait for you to meet them.” Looking at my brother, he was truly happy. WWE had given him a few more stress lines, but seeing him now, you couldn’t tell.
He grabbed my hand, pulling me to follow him. He led me to Matt and Nick Jackson, standing with Kenny Omega and Adam Page. “Guys! Guys! Look who decided to show her face.” Cody beamed, smiling big. The four guys waved.
“Finally! We get to meet the prodigal sister.” Kenny Omega spoke first.
“Peyton, these are the guys.” Cody pointed to each of them. “Matt. Nick. Kenny. Adam.”
“Nice to meet y’all finally. I watch your show every week. You are all very talented.” They all mumbled a “thank you” in tandem.
The rest of the evening went by smoothly. We all sat and talked. Getting to know The Elite was amazing. It was almost as if I hadn’t been AWOL for a year and a half.  When the party was over, I was helping Brandi clean up.
“Pey, you don’t have to help. You’re a guest.” She said, grabbing the glasses from my hands. I shook my head.
“I’m family. And family helps.” I smiled, taking the glasses back and continued to the kitchen. Cody walked in behind me with plates.
“Hey,” he started, “Thank you for coming.” He finished, placing the plates in the dishwasher. I added my glasses.
“I’m sorry.” I blurted out, turning to face him. Cody looked at me, confused. “I should have left with you. You were right about that place. My career, my relationship, everything, became a shitshow after you left.” tears began to fall.
“Pey, it’s okay. I’m just happy you’re here now.” Cody wiped the tears away.
“Code. I lost my title. Seth cheated on me, and I barely got any TV time.” Cody scoffed. He never liked Seth.
“He cheated on you?” Cody growled, and paced around the room.
I nodded, “I caught him. I went to congratulate him after his win one night and they were,” I sniffled, explaining to Cody. “I don’t know why.” I cried. “And then I lost my title, and then stopped getting TV time, unless I was on Seth’s arm.” I darted my eyes to the ground. “We still had to work together. After everything, I had to pretend like we were the perfect couple, until my last appearance.” Cody pulled me into a tight hug.
“I pissed a lot of people off with the way I left. I’m so sorry that affected you.” he whispered into my hair, like it was his fault.
“I don’t blame you, Code. I was granted my release.” I mumbled into his chest. He pulled back.
“What?” His eyes were wide.
“I asked for my release and Hunter pushed it through. I’ll be a free agent in 90 days” I explained. Cody smiled like a Cheshire cat.
“Babe! Dustin! Get in here!” Cody yelled, startling me. The both of them came running, looking for an emergency, but they only saw Cody pouring champagne for a toast. Confused looks covered their faces.
Cody gave everyone a flute and started a toast. “To our baby sister, the newest AEW superstar.” Brandi squealed and hugged me tight. The guys joined in.
I was finally home.
Tumblr media
It was hard, walking away from my life in WWE; However, finding my place within the Elite was easy. Especially with Kenny Omega. He quickly became one of my closest friends. The next 3 months were the best of my life. The break from wrestling gave my body and my heart time to heal. Everyone did their best to hide that I was coming to AEW, even leaving fake trails that I was going back to NJPW.
After working out the details of my contract, I was officially signed with AEW. Cody wanted me to make a surprise entrance, interrupt one of his segments. Creative loved the idea of brother and sister reuniting, but they wanted to make it interesting. When my debut date came, I couldn’t have been any more nervous.
Sitting in catering, I was alone, lost in thought, picking at my food. It had been a long journey here, but they made it. AEW came to life and it was thriving. Double or nothing had passed, and that meant tonight was Dynamite.
“Guess who?” Someone had snuck up on me, covering my eyes. I smiled because I knew exactly who it was.
“Hmm, Prince Charming?” I guessed quickly. Kenny placed a sloppy kiss to my cheek.
“Close, but better.” He said uncovering my eyes. “Hey, princess. Just thought I’d come save you from your thoughts. What’s going on in that head of yours right now?” he asked, knowing I’ll tell him, taking the seat next to me.
I sighed, rubbing my face. “I was thinking about my journey, how I got here.” Kenny nodded, but didn’t say anything. “I was thinking about how I get to see Jon again, since leaving WWE, and I was thinking about Seth.” I finally spit it out. Seth, his name leaving a bad taste in my mouth.
“I knew something was bothering you. Talk to me, doll.”
“I was scrolling through Insta earlier. He’s engaged. I know I shouldn’t care, but I do. Not because I still have feelings for him, but because she is, was, my friend, and I don’t want him to do to her what he did to me.” I explained to him.
“That’s understandable, Pey, but people gotta make their own mistakes. Mandy knows what he did to you and she still said yes, so that’s on her.” Kenny said, ever the voice of reason.
I nodded in agreement with him, knowing he was right. I needed to focus on my new path, my new future.
“Peyton!” Cody called from a distance, Brandi following him. It was time.
Cody stood, center ring, proudly. He had won the TNT title at Double or Nothing. He went on about how he was issuing an open challenge every Wednesday.
I stood nervously behind the curtain, waiting for my cue. I was about to make my debut. My life has been a little crazy since I left WWE behind, but definitely for the better.
As an avid Fall Out Boy fan, I had struck a deal to have my favorite song as my entrance music. I had been using it for most of my career. The music hit, the crowd went crazy. “Holy Hell, that music can only mean one person. The sister of the American Nightmare. That’s Peyton Rhodes!” JR yelled into his mic as I strolled down the ramp, ignoring the crowd. “Peyton” chants filled the arena as I made my way to the squared circle.
“Peyton Rhodes has joined  AEW and the crowd couldn’t be happier,” Excalibur added. I walked around the ring to the time keeper, grabbing a mic from Justin, and strolled on toward the ring.
The music cut, and Cody was first to speak. "Oh yeah. I guess we didn't announce this but Peyton Rhodes is AEW!" The crowd screamed at Cody's news, chanting "AEW".
I soaked in the cheers because I knew it was all about to change. I had been a face for most of my pro-wrestling career, and now I finally get to pursue the heel turn my fans had been begging for. I took in a deep breath and adjusted my leather jacket.
“Oh, Atlanta, shut the hell up!” I groaned into the mic. I revelled in the audible gasp that could be heard. “That’s right. No more sweet ‘Georgia peach’ Peyton Rhodes. I came to AEW to raise hell, and that’s what I’m going to do.” I wandered around the ring, stopping in front of a camera. “I’m sick and tired of wanting your approval. I’m here to get what I want. And I want it all.” I punctuated as I looked dead into the camera.
“Hear that big brother,” I turned and faced Cody, “Hell just arrived in AEW I hope you’re ready.” I gestured to the crowd, “I hope you’re all ready, because if you thought Cody was a nightmare, wait til you see me, the Dream Killer.” I dropped the mic, and rolled out of the ring. The crowd loved it. “Dream Killer” chants echoed in my ears all the way backstage.
I was greeted by Dustin, Brandi, and Kenny. “That was perfect, Pey, they loved it.” Kenny said as soon as I was in sight. I grinned, running up to him, jumping into his arms for a hug.
“The crowd loved you. They’ve been hoping for this heel turn since your WWE debut.” Cody said, smiling from ear to ear as he returned to the back after finishing his promo.
“For real, Pey! You pull off the ‘heel’ thing. I can’t wait to work on your wardrobe!” Brandi squealed, embracing me in a dancing hug. “Just think about the shoes, Pey, the shoes.” Brandi was way more excited about the outfits than the actual turn. She had helped me pick the one I was wearing. Black jean shorts, a front-zip black and white crop top, leather jacket, and black boots.
“I can’t wait to see where this takes me.” I said before we were joined by the rest of The Elite.
Nick was the first to speak. “Not bad, Rhodes. You might be a better heel than your brother here.” He elbowed Cody in the ribs.
Matt nodded in agreement, “For real Peyton, the crowd was so hyped for that turn.” He said with a soft smile, bringing me in for a quick hug.
I turned to face everyone. “Thanks guys. All of you. You gave me this chance.” I thanked them, “I promise I won’t let you down.”
“You’re a great addition to the AEW family.” Adam complimented, “Come on Ken, we got a match to get ready for.” he said before walking away. Kenny gave me one last hug before following him.
Cody and Brandi also parted as she had a segment coming up, leaving me with the Young Bucks. “Come on, Pey, lets celebrate!” We had walked back to catering where some more of the AEW stars were waiting. In the back, I spotted the one person I couldn’t wait to see again. I told The Bucks I’d catch up with them.
“Jon!” I screamed, almost running to him. When he saw me rushing toward him, he opened his arms, inviting me in for a hug. Hugging him was a blast from the past.
“Peyton fucking Rhodes. I heard rumors you were coming. Sweetheart, you knocked them dead.” He spoke into my hair. I gave him one more tight squeeze before pulling away. “Well, you look great.” He said, gesturing to my outfit.
“I’m heel now. Finally.” I boasted. I’ve been waiting for this for the longest time and no one was taking it away from me. Jon and I talked, catching up. I asked about Renee and he lit up. He was happy and that’s all I wanted for him. He was finally able to be the fighting champion everyone knew he could be.
“What about Seth? What happened? The last time I spoke to him, he said you guys were happy and he had bought a ring.” Jon asked, and it knocked the breath out of me. I knew he would ask, but I wasn’t expecting him to mention a ring.
“He cheated on me. With Mandy. They’re engaged now.” I said without choking up, which was a good sign. I could see the disappointment well up in Jon’s eyes.
“You were always too good for him.” I knew he and Seth were still good friends, but I appreciated the words nonetheless. Jon gave me one last hug before he got called away for his match, leaving me alone in catering again.
I found a table close to a TV so I could watch the end of Kenny and Adam’s match. They were well on their way to becoming tag team champions. I started thinking about what Jon had said about Seth, about him buying a ring. I couldn’t believe it. He was going to ask me to marry him and I would have said yes, had I not found him with Mandy. I was pulled from my thoughts by my phone vibrating. It was Seth.
I saw your debut.
You look good.
You’re gonna be a great heel.
I miss you.
I wish you would talk to me and let me explain.
I read and reread the messages a hundred times before replying.
Okay, Seth. When and where?

NCT DREAM Glitch Mode Album Ranking: An Opinion Piece
In which I review and rank the songs from Glitch Mode based on my first few listens of each. My opinions are subject to change given the fact that some songs take more then 3-5 listens to grow on you.
1. Teddy Bear: 9.5/10
This song accelerated my heart rate just from the intro bro
I didn't expect a song with this title to be a body rolling R&B song, I was expecting a ballad lol
Feels dreamy asf
Heavenly
Mark singing 😩
Straight to the favorites ☝🏽️
I'm feeling the vibe
The falsetto moments after the bridge, I'm fucking floating
This song is a spiritual experience
Their vocals!!!
NCT's vocals have never failed me
2. It's Yours: 8.5/10
Already got me from the intro
I bet you $1,000 Haechan starts this track
Run me my money
This instrumental is hitting
I'm a sucker for a good coffee shop bop
It's mine 💁🏽‍♀️
I'm so obsessed with Jisung's voice
It's good background music, I don't know if any specific part is standing out to me though
3. Saturday Drip: 8/10
I already hate the instrumental
Ik this man did not just say "Me and my clique" 😭💀
The little piano (xylophone?) tune is reminding me of OK!'s instrumental
Does a great job of building up anticipation to the chorus
The video game coin sound was kinda cool
I thought Dream wasn't allowed to use the word "drip" anymore 😭✋🏽
Important question: Do they have drip on other days of the week or only on Saturday?
Yes bridge
"Drip too hard, everybody get back, get back" YES LEE JENO
Rap bridges have a special place in my heart
The "What you doing on the weekend" part 😩
"Baby I love how you move move move" 💃🏽
Main instrumental aside, this song was the moment
4. Rewind: 7.5/10
Sounds a bit retro
Chill vibes
Jisung.
This song has good energy
Parts of the instrumental remind me of church for some reason, idk where it's coming from but it's scratching my brain
Nostalgia? I think yes
The half step up thing (I'm so bad at explaining, my choir teacher would not be pleased lol) they're doing in the chorus is so pretty
I love the cut off at the end, it reminds me of One Direction's Live While We're Young
5. Arcade: 7/10
Okay trap beat 💀
JISUNG VOCALS JISUNG VOCALS
Nice summer vibes
It's like they mixed their old style with their newer style and I like it
This just feels like Dream
Pretty boppy, I'm dancing
Youthful energy
First song I've had positive feelings on so far (In regards to me listening to the album in order the first time around)
THE BRIDGE THE BRIDGE THE BRIDGE THE BRIDGE
Haechan's vocals in this, yes please
Vocalists slayed
6. Better Than Gold: 6.5/10
I had to pause after the instrumental to brace myself, I know this is about to be good
They're having their Bruno Mars 2016 moment
Midway through and I'm starting to think that my expectations were too high lol
Dream has a thing for the days of the week, I se
The end of the chorus 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
The transition into the bridge was so clean
Renjun stood out here
The chant part after the bridge 😩
"Ladies aye, Fellas aye, everyday, we gon' play" 💃🏽🕺🏻
They way that you can always hear Mark the loudest in their chants lol
"Go-o-o-o-o-old" gets me every time
7. Glitch Mode: 5/10
The intro gave suspense
Kinda like if Ridin' and Hot Sauce had a baby, but that baby was kinda ugly
It's just not hitting the way I wanted it to
They're trying to get me hype but I'M NOT GETTING HYPE
It's not exciting
The music video was visually pleasing though, but that's irrelevant rn
Haechan's high note was too short, give me more
I feel like this needs more Jisung, but idk that might just be a me thing
It's catchy though, so like all of the questionable NCT titles before it (Hot Sauce, Sticker) it'll probably grow on me
Currently I am trying to force myself into liking it, Stockholm syndrome vibes
It's getting a little dance out of me on the 4th listen so I guess it's a grower 👍🏽
The "mmm, mmm" really sticks in your head
8. Replay: 4.5/10
I don't know how I feel about the beat, It's choppy for sure
I'm not liking the "oh oh" chant
More headache inducing content, slayyyy
No thoughts, head empty
I don't know what I think
The second verse is definitely better than the first one
Was Jeno having a little Baby Don't Stop Taeyong moment in that bridge???????
Did that mf just say "Play play play play play"!?!?!?
THIS BREAKDOWN YES
THE SONG IS FINNALY PICKING UP THANK GOD
It's giving Misfit vibes in this bridge
Jeno's raps always hit
The song went back to being boring after that but it's okay because I'm so grateful for that bridge
Spent my whole second listen waiting for that bridge and it didn't even hit the same the second time around 😭😔✋🏽
9. Never Goodbye: 4.5/10
Renjun has such a pretty tone
It's giving Not Alone vibes
I love when raps are happening over soft and sweet instrumental, it's a nice contrast
Besides that, the whole song just kinda ran together for me
It's kinda boring but that's okay ig
Haechan's part in the bridge 👏🏽
The harmony in the bridge is so lovely
10. Drive: 4.5/10
Feels simple and minimalistic
Carefree and fun
The little car lock sound is so cuteeeee
I don't really have any strong feelings on this song, I don't hate it, but I don't absolutely love it though
This song is also pretty boring for me
11. Fire Alarm 2/10
Very noisy
Honestly such a jump scare
The siren is reminding me of the whistle in Sticker, oh no
Not "hop out the coop" 💀💀💀
The siren is ruining it, I actually hate it more than the sticker
It's giving headache
The beginning of the second verse was a nice break from all this chaos
Renjun's "Turn up the music"
So glad I didn't listen to this with headphones
When they said "sorijilleo", they really meant it
Will never listen to this willingly again
Overall Notes: This album has taught me that a good bridge can really save a song and also, Dream has really good bridges. It was a bit of a mess, definitely has some skips in my opinion but there were good times too. I don't think that any of these songs will be big favorites for me in comparison to Dream's other songs but it could definitely be worse.
Extras:
-Can you tell that Jisung is my bias? Lol
-The Glitch Mode MV is nice, but I wish that there was some more even center time for the dance parts in it (I'm aware that the center time will be more even when they perform Glitch Mode live) but to anyone that doesn't stan Dream, it might give them the impression that Mark, Jeno, and Jaemin are the only members that dance well, which simply isn't true
-I tried to rank all of these in a critical manner but if we're talking strictly opinion and nothing technical, Better Than Gold and Rewind are my favorites

Cutting Edge ~ Nathan MacKinnon Ch.7
Hi everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful day! I was excited writing this chapter and I hope you all love it! I think at this point I’m half way through the serious with the different events I have in my head to take place! Thank you for all the kind words and reblogs! You have no idea the smile it puts on my face! Anyways, enjoy and let me know what you think!
Prologue Ch.1 Ch.2 Ch.3 Ch.4 Ch.5 Ch.6
Tumblr media
You almost did a spit take when the Avs’ media department told you their plan for that Saturday’s home opener. “You know that is in three days, right?” you asked to clarify you heard correctly.
“Yes we do. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal though, you already know the routine,” one of the men spoke up. You looked at him like he had grown an extra head.
“I’ve skated at least five different routines after it. You can’t expect me to remember that one specifically,” you argued. “Also, fans are coming here for a hockey game, not a figure skating event.” The media department was asking you to perform your long program that you skated for the Olympics during the second intermission.
“It would be a fun way to introduce you to the fan base though. Show everyone that we have an Olympic champion as a coach,” you stared at the girl who told you this. They were all smiling at you, but you were starting to feel like a side show.
“I just want to be treated like one of the team, one of the coaches. I don’t want to be a side show,” you tried to reason with them.
“You aren’t. Just this once. It is the home opener after all, everyone will be excited and we’ve had requests on our social media to see you skate.” The man said again, but this time looked disinterested in anything else you wanted to argue. How was skating your performance in a sparkly, little dress going to earn you respect as a coach? The media team looked at you expectantly.
“Just this once please. I’d rather have the focus on the team and blend into the background myself,” you conceded. A few of them nodded, but you weren’t so sure you were being heard. You had this problem more frequently than you would like. Being of smaller stature with a softer voice, you weren’t always taken as seriously as you would like to be. Leaving the meeting, you walked back over to the ice and put your skates back on. The team had a light practice that afternoon after playing two back to back games, you being pulled aside after practice.
Back on the ice, you looked up your routine on Youtube. No one could really blame you for forgetting parts of your routine; you still competed after the Olympics and did have to memorize new ones. Playing the music over the loud speaker you started to mark your program, slowly remembering where your spins and jumps were placed. The footwork was what would be tripping you up. You closed your eyes and tried to remember as best you could, until you skated backward into a wall. Or what you thought was a wall but ended up being Nate, his hands on your waist to steady you. “Dang MacKinnon, you are a fridge,” you laughed as he let go of you. Nate’s cheeks became a little red as he chuckled.
“Why do you look so stressed?” he asked you. You looked down quickly, not realizing that you had a look on your face.
“It’s nothing,” you tried to smile. You knew the home opener game was on everyone’s nerves. They wanted to play well and win, and did not need you panicking for a different reason. “Why are you still here?” you asked, trying to change the subject.
“I was waiting for you outside, but you never came out after media took you off for whatever they needed. I just thought I would come find you,” he said quietly, trying to gauge your mood still. “Why is your music playing?” You let out a laugh.
“You actually know this is my music?” you asked, starting to skate backward away from him. Nate followed, starting to see you were avoiding his questions but also wanting an answer.
“Coach showed us your routine when he told us you would be our skating coach,” he explained.
“You have a good memory,” you commented, stopping the music once you reached your phone. Nate rolled his eyes and took your phone out of your hands. “Hey!” you yelped, trying to take it back from him. He looked at the video and back at you with a raised eyebrow. “Media asked me to perform my routine between the 2nd and 3rd period. The only thing is that I’ve kind of forgotten my footwork for it because I’ve had other routines after it. Plus I’m not entirely comfortable performing it at a hockey game that I’m supposed to be a coach at.” You explained in a huff, turning in circles as you explained because you couldn’t exactly stand still.
“Why did they ask you to do that?” Nate asked, reaching out and grabbing your hand to get you to stop spinning. You shrugged, looking down at your hands and playing with his fingers.
“They said to introduce me to the fan base.” Nate nodded and looked at your phone.
“Well what do you need help with?” he asked. You looked up at him and relaxed a bit under his gaze.
“You don’t have to stay. I’m sure your tired,” you said, but he shook his head.
“Either you tell me what I can help you with, or I will keep your phone so you can’t practice at all.” Nate gave you a straight face. You rolled your eyes but smiled at him.
“Tell me if the footwork matches up?” you asked swiveling away from him, and Nate smiled softly at you.
           “You got it Coach.”

The feeling at the Pepsi Center was electric. The fans were excited and it made the arena come to life in a way that a figure skating event never had. At your competitions, people sat patiently in their seats for their favorite skater to take the ice, clapping politely for the others. Here at the game the fans were up and yelling, being as noisy as they could. You tried to focus on the team, but your performance was in the back of your mind. Was this really a crowd who wanted to watch a skating routine. You were standing behind Kadri at the moment, half way through the second period. The score was tied 1-1, and you could feel the tension radiating off the team.  With about five minutes left, the other team called a time out and a woman from media appeared on the other side of the glass, motioning for you to go with her. Bednar saw her too, and nodded toward you. “Break a leg kid,” he said as you walked past him. Nate was on the ice and skated over to the box opening, offering you his arm before you stepped onto the ice. As you reached out for him, you remembered what you wanted to say during the time out.
“Oh! Cale, try to go to the outside. They keep stopping you when you turn in,” you said and he nodded.
“Good luck,” Nate whispered as you let go of his arm when you got back on the none-slip surface off the ice. You sent him a small smile. As you were changing, you heard the goal buzzard go off and the crowd cheering. You hoped that meant it was one of your boys. Looking in the mirror after you changed, a huge smile lit up your face. You hadn’t worn this dress since the Olympics, and you loved the way it made you feel. It started off white at the top, and faded into (Y/Fav/Color). The whole dress was bedazzled with Swarovski crystals the same color as the material of the dress. The sleeves were sheer netting, bedazzled as well, with an open back. You put on your three-tier crystal choker that you wore for every competition since you were 8. Not one to have a lot of superstitions, your choker was the one thing that would devastate you to skate without since you had it for so long. You had worn your hair into a bun for the game and just had to fix your make up. You did not want to show up with competition make up to the game. Lacing up your skates, you walked out and started to warm up your jumps in the tunnel. Once the ice was clean, you were able to skate out and warm up quickly. No attention was draw to you, though being the only one on the ice drew it to you anyways. After warming up your jumps and a spin, you skated back off to wait for your introduction. Taking off your jacket, you jumped slightly as someone took it from you.
“Didn’t think you could perform without us Coach, did you?” Tyson asked. You turned around and saw the team walking back down the tunnel toward you, most with their helmets and gloves off. The guys piled onto the bench, along with the other coaches. It made you relax slightly having familiar faces. Nate sat on the edge closest to you and gave you a reassuring smile.
“You got this,” he said in a low tone so that only you heard. You nodded, smiling brighter as you heard your name over the speaker. You skated out to center ice, elegantly striking your beginning pose. The music started, and everything around you faded as it always did when you performed. You felt like you were flying when you jumped, and couldn’t help a little excited toe step when you landed your last triple axle of the routine. Also, it did not help that you heard the guys cheering you on, so you knew you were doing something right. The last note of your music played, and you jumped out of your scratch spin to your backward bend, effectively ending your movement and routine. The stadium lit up in applause, whether they were just being polite or not you didn’t know, neither did you really care. You didn’t realize how much you missed performing until now. Smiling, you bowed and waved at the crowd. As you started to head back toward the Avs, a chant of “Coach” started to sound. You laughed and went down the line high fiving them. The ice was set to be cleaned once more, the holes your toe picks made being filled in quickly as there was about five minutes left of intermission. You were bouncing with adrenaline, and Tyson had to practically throw your jacket in your face for you to pay any attention to him. Walking off the ice with the team, you all of a sudden remembered the buzzard that went off while you were getting ready. You turned to Gabe who was next you.
“Who scored?” you asked eagerly. Gabe smiled his charming smile at you.
“Makar. It was your call Coach,” he said. You bounced excitedly and shoved Cale when you saw him. Nate was watching you the whole time, amused at your bubbliness.
The game went on, with the Avs scoring 3 more times, making the score 5-1 when the final buzzard sounded. You were standing on the bench when it happened, and Nate picked you up slightly to put you back on the ground before you tumbled off the bench in your excitement. He had remembered what you said about being clumsy if you didn’t have your skates on. Once the team was in the locker room, you grabbed your bag and your dress and changed. Nate had mentioned that everyone would be going out after the game and that you should go with them. Then when Mel facetimed you to pick out an outfit, you really couldn’t say no. Plus Nate said he would pick you up so you didn’t have to worry about driving that evening. Though you suggested it should be the other way around since he was the one playing in said game, he insisted. After letting down your hair from its bun, you changed into a pair of skinny jeans, a top that just barley hit the top of your jeans, heeled boots and a jacket, and walked back toward the locker room where the families and guests of players were starting to gather. Before you could even question where you should go, a familiar blonde grabbed your attention. “You were beautiful!” Mel squealed, pulling you into a hug. You laughed and thanked her.
“I never want to do that at a hockey game again, but thanks,” you smiled at her. She rolled her eyes.
“I know. Nate said you were apprehensive about it,” she said, eyeing you suspiciously. You gave her a questioning look. “Just cause I can’t get you to spill everything yet doesn’t mean I can’t get something out of him at least. And I got my something. So you look extra cute tonight, your welcome.” Mel smiled slyly at you. You were about to ask her what she actually meant when the team started to disperse out of the locker room. Sinking into the background as everyone greeted their loved ones, you couldn’t help but feel warm at the scene. Competing as a figure skater was so individualistic, you usually didn’t see your family after a competition until after the award ceremony back at the hotel. That was if they traveled with you at all. As you looked around, you locked eyes with a familiar pair of blue ones. Nate made his way over to you, scooping you up into a hug. You giggled; your arms wrapped around his neck. As if you both remembered where you were at the same time, Nate quickly set you down and you brushed your hair behind your ear awkwardly.
“Nice game MacKinnon,” you said, trying to not seem like you were too phased by remembering where you were. Nate chuckled, rubbing the back at of his neck. He felt slightly bad for making you feel awkward, but he was also getting tired of this unspoken line you had both drawn. What he wouldn’t do to just be able to kiss you then and there. He had to admit, watching your routine on video was one thing, but seeing you perform it in person and seeing you radiate with joy after took his breath away.
“Thanks coach. I guess you were pretty good too,” he winked at you. You laughed and shook your head, shoving his arm. Once everyone who was going out decided on where they were going, you walked with Nate to his car. Andre also got a ride with the two of you. You tried to tell him he could sit in the front since his legs were longer, but he insisted that you took the front. Once at the bar, the team got a seat in the VIP section, of course. You had actually never been in a VIP section, except for the time you went out with your friends for your 21st birthday. You had pulled the Olympian card, tipsy you having fun being center of attention when you usually shy away from it when you were off the ice; and it helped you were with a group of attractive people in the first place. Drinks were brought around and you had to fend off Tyson who kept trying to make you take a shot with him. Eventually you gave in and did one, but stuck with your beer for the rest of the night. You were a lightweight, and did not want to get drunk the first time you went out with everyone.
As the night went on, you were definitely tipsy but not uncontrollable. You danced with a few of the girls and just had a fun time talking with everyone. Nate kept a close eye on you, grinning as you cracked up at something one of the girls said. “So what are you going to do?” Gabe asked, taking a seat next to Nate at their table. No one was paying attention to the two; either out dancing, at the bar, or in other conversations.
“About what?” Nate took a sip of his beer.
“Coach. Y/N,” Gabe answered, rolling his eyes. He knew Nate knew what he was talking about. Nate sighed, and figured out of everyone Gabe would probably give the sanest advice in this situation.
“Honestly, I don’t know. I like being around her. I feel like I can just be myself and she doesn’t expect anything from me. I mean, I think she’s amazing,” Nate rambled and Gabe grinned at his friend. “But like you said the first day she showed up, I’m screwed. She’s our coach. She’s trying to work out this whole entire program and I don’t want to be the reason why it may not work out for her. There’s a line that we haven’t crossed for a reason, you know.” Gabe nodded. He felt bad that Nate was in this position. He was honestly just messing with him when he told him he was screwed that day; he hadn’t expected there to be actual feelings between the two. Nate had a solemn look on his face, and Gabe patted his shoulder.
“To be frank, you two seem to have some sort of connection. It’s not obvious, but I’ve been paying attention since day one because I thought it was funny at first. But since then you guys have just grown closer it seems. I mean, you hang out all time. And don’t think I didn’t notice that you went and sat with her on the plane coming home. I don’t know what to tell you, but you are both adults and I’m sure if you just talked to her about it you could work it out,” Gabe finished as you and Mel bounded over to the table.
“Work what out?” you asked, curious as to why the boys looked so serious. Gabe gave his wife a look that you did not understand, and answered as Nate seemed at a loss for words.
“A new play,” he said, and Nate nodded. You took a seat next to Nate as Mel sat next to her husband, and dove into a story of what Linnea did that day. Nate started to relax again, laughing along with you. Soon after the night came to an end, and Nate drove Andre home before heading to your apartment. He carried your backpack for you into your apartment, setting it down by the front door while you ran to your room to put your dress away. With his conversation with Gabe still echoing in his head, Nate sat down on your couch, rubbing his face.
“Do you want some water or something?” you asked, walking back into the main room.
“Yeah. Water would be great. Thanks,” he responded. You grabbed two water bottles out of your fridge and handed him one as you sat cross legged on the other side of the couch facing Nate.
“What’s up? Are you alright?” you asked, worried he was upset about something. It seemed like there was something on his mind. Nate turned to you, debating if he was really going to say it, or if he should leave it and you would both keep playing this game of not being something more to each other even though he was pretty sure you were on the same page as him. He gauged you as you watched him, deciding that you weren’t drunk, in fact you barely seemed tipsy anymore. If he was going to say anything, now would probably be the best. After taking a quick sip, he set the water down on your coffee table and turned so he was fully facing you.
“What are we doing Y/N?” he asked. You looked at him confused, not sure why he was asking.
“We’re hanging out? Drinking water…” you trailed off as he shook his head.
“I didn’t mean right now. I mean kind of but not really,” Nate mumbled, but stopped when you reached for his hand and stared down at them intertwined. “What does this mean to you?” he asked, giving your hand a light squeeze.
“Um,” you started, not sure if you actually wanted to say what it actually meant to you.
“Because this,” Nate squeezed your hand again, “means something to me. And I think it means something to you too.” You nodded at his assumption. That was all the reassurance Nate needed to keep talking. “I like you Y/N, a lot. Like more than I thought was possible.” You smiled shyly, but then you remembered why you were in Colorado to begin with.
“Nate, I’m your coach…” you started, but Nate shook his head.
“I know that. I would never want to put you in a situation that cost you that, but I also don’t want to pretend like these feelings don’t exist anymore.” He moved closer to you and your heart picked up a bit. “You looked beautiful skating today. I think you look beautiful everyday and I want to be able to tell you that without feeling like I’m crossing some imaginary boundry.” You blushed and looked down, but Nate used his other hand to gently lift your chin back up so you were looking at him. He looked slightly worried that he had said to much, so you knew it was your turn to talk.
“I really like you too Nate. I just don’t know how we’re supposed to navigate this. I’m worried that the program won’t be taken seriously if we start dating,” you said and Nate nodded, slowly letting go of your face. You could see the doubts start to form in his mind, and quickly grabbed his wrist, effectively keeping him there. The two of you stayed quiet for a moment, letting all the words that had been said sink in. Nate took a tentative breath, not sure if he wanted to know the answer to his next question.
“So then what do you want to do?” he whispered, but at your proximity to each other it could have been a shout. You were pondering what to say next when he spoke up again. “Because I would like to see where this could go Y/N.” If you had any more doubts, that sentence pushed them away. You smiled softly up at him and nodded.
“Me too,” your voice was barely over a whisper, but Nate heard you loud and clear. He smiled warmly at you, looking down at your lips then back into your eyes. This time when he leaned in, no phone went off to drag you both out of this blissful bubble surrounding you both. Your eyes fluttered shut as his lips finally met yours, the butterflies in your stomach working overtime. It was short and sweet, and you both had smiles that could light up a room when you pulled away. You knew there was a lot to discuss and figure out, but in that moment you could have cared less. The rest of the night was spent with stolen kisses and talking about nothing and everything all at once. Neither of you had ever felt so content. And as the sun started to rise over Denver that Sunday, it found the two of you cuddled up and fast asleep on your couch.

If you woke up tomorrow and suddenly became the new writer for gorillaz... What would be the FIRST thing you'd add/change that you believe is important to get gorillaz on the right track, vs what would you add purely for yourself?
This is tricky to answer, because the fandom is so split on when and why Gorillaz starts going "wrong." I'd probably say I disagree with certain choices in every phase from 3 onward, but I also wouldn't say I abjectly hate any of them or any have truly worn me off the band (admittedly, this current phase has the least to offer.) I say all this to give me cushioning when my suggestions are bad/no one can agree on what's good and what's crap, haha. It's also tough to tell where the line is between The Good Of Us All and Just Good For Me, but I am absolutely aware those are very distinctly separate things.
I would start simply with more interviews. Not short statements for a magazine or ads for new products, not a cobbled together collection of ideas to fill a page in a novelty book. I don’t say that to be a hater, I think the almanac had a few worthwhile written sections, but I don't think it's controversial to say large portions were just taking up space, felt very out-of-step with the character (Paula’s revisiting comes to mind) or didn't feel like they added anything-- goofy for goofy's sake is fun in doses, very much not saying the only worthwhile interviews are the serious ones, but it can feel strange when it is the only significant written content we get for a band that have, in the past, provided actual measured thoughts about the music (mostly Noodle and Russ here) or served themselves as a satire of pop culture and mocked archetypical celebrities (particularly the irreverent, lived, sponsor-unfriendly specifics of British pop culture, as the writers are more at-home with this than, say, exploring much about actual Japanese culture in Noodle’s travels; this is Stu and Murdoc's domain.) I want to read interviews with individual members and with the band as a whole that have no focus on marketing, no focus on their own products or sponsorships, and perhaps most crucially IMO, are not reliant solely on what we’ve seen in music videos already. Honestly, the merch-plugs and promotional materials bother me way less than the short interviews or quotes (from Twitter, etc) we get just referencing the most recent events of a Song Machine video, or really blandly calling back to previously written lore without even a joke attached. I’m not trying to make some grand statement about Gorillaz “always” doing this, or this “always” being bad, I do think these critiques can be overstated sometimes-- but from the perspective of a fairly neutral fan, yeah, I think it’s as true as any subjective feeling can be that Gorillaz’s writing is fairly unwilling to say something new about the characters, maybe because the writers or actors are bound to a script with just a few plot points. Like, I just want Gorillaz to actually be funny again. I acknowledge and respect where they’ve made some attempts but I’d like to see more life in the characters-- and this may teeter into adding things just for me, but I’d like them to a bit meaner again as well. I’d like all of the characters to bring their own laddishness or snobbery to the table, I’d like them to take potshots at pop culture and start beef, I’d like the man we define as being a gross arrogant arsehole to actually come across as these things instead of the characters just rolling their eyes at him and getting virtually no unique characterization of their own-- there’s so much comedy and commentary lost when only Murdoc is allowed to be nasty, and even he can’t really say something to make an enemy. There are of course fans who love the softer family aspect but I reckon there are just as many fans who prefer the band to be sort of Always Sunny-ish, be a little bit insufferable but too much fun to quit. I definitely think there’s a way to strike that balance, because they’ve done it before. Speaking for myself I wouldn’t say Gorillaz is totally ruined and will never be good again etc etc, I don’t want to throw all my merchandise in a fire, I just think they’ve made some questionable choices in the real world, they’re struggling to stay in step now that they’ve got to be their own label, and the characters are not bringing much to the table to genuinely laugh at.
Purely for myself... first instinct/no-thought answer: I would add official artwork of Stu with a small bald spot chatting up a girl in the clinic while holding a little baggy for his prescription itch cream, and another of Murdoc leaving an alley in Soho, sneering at the camera but swiping a thumb at the side of his mouth. Or a song with Brian Molko. Or Stu recording a football chant for Chelsea on his own, ala Sleeping Powder. These are all acceptable.

How yall met
Ya boy needed help with Literature :p
He was this 🤏 close from passing that class
But he still needed some extra help
Or else he was gonna get benched
So the teacher had recommended you along with some others as potential tutors
He had seen you around school before
And he's ngl you were one of the cuter girls at karasuno
But he's only ever talked to you like once
But compared to all of the other people the teacher suggested
You were the most familiar
So he chose you
He quickly realized that you were much more than just a pretty face
You were super smart!
And funny
And you seemed to know how to teach the subject in a way he could understand
He honestly thought he would never love another girl besides Kiyoko
But you were growing on him
So after he had raised his grade up
He continued to go to you for some extra tutoring
Half of the time he wasn't paying attention to the subject
But more to how pretty you looked today
Soon enough you caught on to how he felt
So one day when you caught him staring you said
“You know if you wanna take me out you should just ask”
Mans turned BRIGHT red
But in the end he was able to ask you out
What they love about you
This man LIVES for your style
Like one day you'll show up in your usual skirt and thigh highs
(which he loves ofc)
But then some days you'll switch it up and show up in a classic skater girl outfit
Something like this :)))))
And his jaw just goes to the FLOOR
Like wtf how did you just get even more perfect
Im convinced he has the classic skater boy style so he really loves those outfits
He loves how chaotic you are
Alright this is NISHINOYA were talking about
If your gonna date him you gotta be a little more on the wild side
He loves the havoc you guys create
And the adventures you two have together
Have the cops been called on these adventures?
Yes
Have you ran from said cops before?
Also yes
HAS NOYA EVER HAD TO SPEND THE NIGHT AT THE POLICE STATION?
Yes but we don't talk about that
He loves ALL of your drawings
Keeps every single one you give him
And he loves your singing voice
Always tells you you need to go onto the voice or some shit
“Ok Miss Arianna i see you ;))))”
“Noya i am trying to SHOWER >:(“
What you love about them
You love how he can match your energy
As stated before
And just with basic haikyuu knowledge
This is a chaotic boy were talking about
So what do you think happens when you put two chaotic people together
You guessed it. CHAOS
But it's always fun for you two
Not so much fun for anyone around tho
You love how he supports all of your interests and hobbies
I swear you could draw a triangle and this mans would be like
“Wow”
“I've never seen such a perfect triangle in my life”
“These lines? Straighter than a heterosexual relationship”
I'm dating the next davinci people”
You get the gist
But honestly you really enjoy these compliments
You like how passionate he can get about things
Perfect example would be when he and asahi got into their fight
Like our boy was MAD
But that kind of passion can also be seen in a more positive atmosphere as well
Like he gets HYPED when he get asked about an of his interests
And will talk about them for HOURS
It makes for fun conversations tho
So your not complaining
Favorite things to do together
Crackhead tings 💅
But seriously
He loves just going out and doing the most random shit with you
Late night gas station trips
Pouring instants mashed potatoes on people's yards
Blasting music while driving around
Starting a cult with the kids at your local playground
Yeah we don't talk about the last one…
Parents were not happy to see their kids chanting around a Mcdonald's sprite
Basically he just loves having fun with you
Random Hc
His grade improved a lot since he started dating you
Once you convinced him to try on one of your skirts
And lemme just say
This man SLAYED
Like wtf
When he found out you wanted to be a libero
Oh boy
He was so eager to teach youtube rolling thunder
Yeah you almost broke your neck that day…
Overall Aesthetic
Chaotic Skaterssss 🛹
