Turnabout is fair play! What have you been working on of late? :D

All right, I survived posting however many cyworlds that was so now I get to answer an ask. :p

Right now, I'm not actually working on anything: I probably wrote 250-400k of words in the past year (likely higher, I'd have to sit down and total it all) and I realized right around mid-November that I was quickly reaching burnout: writing was getting difficult, even when I had ideas, and I just felt exhausted.

So I speedran the rest of NaNoWriMo, finished on day 23 (the year before, I kept writing and landed with 70k, which was insane, this year I just tapped out once I hit 50k), and I haven't actually written anything since.

But, that doesn't mean I'm done writing! I'm just putting it on the backburner atm. When I get back into the swing of it, I want to finish off (read: do the second half of) my NaNo from a couple months ago, Turnabout Runaways, which is mostly focused on the Ace Attorney side of Sagiverse except for where it isn't. (There's a good chunk of Aethelian stuff in there, and I do absolutely intend to write the Saint Seiya fic in there. Just... once I get there, because I have to adjust the plot of that one to account for Myncroft Walden, who was absolutely alive during it, and that'll shift the plot a bit.)

Like the other big fics I've done this past year, it's an anthology, so I've mostly been just compiling oneshots. The major theme is obviously that each fic is about running away (mostly literally). It's going to keep the anthology theme of having interludes / prologues to each fic, but it also has the fun addition of every fic being split into three 'scenes', and every fic opening with lyrics from a Sirinnkata song!

(The Sirinnkata are a fictional band in Sagiverse, as well-known as the Beatles and surrounded by the mystery of why the two frontmen vanished off the face of the planet four hundred years ago after both of them had a very public mental breakdown. I've genuinely enjoyed telling their story exclusively through their music, which is funny because I can't write music to save my life.)

This is the entirety of my notes, minus Sirinnkata lyrics, for what's left. (The crossed out part on the right are the fics that are done.) Runaways is shaping up to be a lot longer than the three previous anthologies, so it may have to be split into two volumes, but like... that's a problem for future Pale, when I get back into the swing of things.

In the meantime, I've been organizing files, so uh - if you're reading this, Wavy or someone else, the next hundred and fifty or so posts on your dash is just me being queueblocked from posting Cyworlds. Sorry. ^^; (It's either rebageling cyworlds or sorting my DGS fanart folder until I can do my Neopets dailies, and there's fourteen hundred files in that folder. I'm doing my best here. :p)

So, to new users, you probably have seen posts about how there’s no algorithm, how you should have a header and pfp other than the default ones, how you should reblog everything, how blocking is not a moral thing but a convenience one, etc. But let’s talk vibes.

- There is a culture in Tumblr. We are a civilization. We are nice but the ecosystem isn’t, it’s ruthless and unforgiving. You shall adapt or you shall perish.

- There are important holidays. Some are more important than others. Out of touch thursday is commonly accepted, and Sad-ant-with-a-bindle-monday is a nice one to participate in. Do not speak ill of the 5th of November, which is the international day.

- You are not obliged to have watched the series or read the books everyone else has. But it would give you a headstart to know what Destiel, Superwholock and Dracula Daily mean. More specialized slang, like Horse Plinko, Blorbo, Eeby Deeby or Jonmina, will come later.

- We don’t have the same kind of personnalities as Twitter has: our pantheon is composed of President Smellborp, Glup Shitto and my cousin Throckmorton, to only talk about the most notorious.

- Traditions such as the Sexyman Bracket, the Colour Theory comments, etc, might seem outdated or outright weird to the common newcomer. You are completely free to ignore them, and completely free to find them stupid. Be warned however that if you smear them, you will be stoned to death.

- If you want the question and the answer to be public, you can ask people things through the askbox. If you want it to be private, direct-message them.

- As for the header and pfp problem, you should know that there is a neversleeping plague in here: they call themselves sugar daddy or sugar baby, lonely girl or even mature teen, but we call them PornBots. We recognize them at a default header and profile picture, and their blogs are full of porn. However, they started evolving and sometimes have not only a credible username, but also a profile picture. You WILL be blocked on sight if you have never reblogged anything and/or if you have the default header and pfp. When we fight a war, we don’t care what brought you to wear the ennemy’s uniform, we care only to make you bleed.

- The Shibboleth if you think someone you know is on Tumblr is “I like your shoelaces”. The addressed shall, if they are from tumblr, answer with “Thanks! I stole them from the president”. Few are still living who remember the meaning or the origin of those words.

- If there’s a flashing gif, tag it as “tw flashing” or “flashing”. Do NOT tag as “epilepsy”, or epileptic people in quest of informations will open the tag and die promptly after being exposed to twenty flashing gifs all at once. This is not a joke.

- You can block tags and post contents in your settings. Be warned that the post contents will also filter the usernames: so if you filter “fire” because you don’t like fire or because it generally comes with flashing gifs, know that it will block anyone with a username saying firelord, firefighter, brighter-than-fire and such.

- Anon hate is for cowards and for fools. Who would come, however well masked, to a king’s very throne room, in order to insult them? When the king is accompagnied by his most trusted advisors and most devouted subjects? It’s also not a nice thing. You can be blocked even if you’re on anon btw.

- There are posses and groups, factions if you like. Some are politicals, some are religious, some go by hobbies... You can go wherever you like but be sure to be armed before you ever go near an unfamiliar Fandom. Those are dreaded even by the most valiant heroes.

- The current climate is midly xenophobic. No one cares where you come from, mind you, in real life. But if you’re coming here from Twitter, hide the signs. Pick up the lingua, talk about reblogs not retweets, try to put “rebagel” at some point and talk about SPN and how dreadful the Superwholock fandom are just as if you belonged. Lie low. You’ll be able to joke about that later with your mutuals. For the moment, you might want to be safe rather than sorry.

- This is a lawless land. You make justice by yourself, by blocking people or by reporting them. I’d recommand only to report people actively encouraging crime and the Ennemy (the pornbots), but you do you, and you know better than me when it’s time to unsheathe your weapon.

- For the love of all that is holy, tag your posts. If you don’t, they will find you.

- On that note, try to tag the trigger warnings/content warnings with tw or cw tags which already exist. Because blocking the tag “tw incest” doesn’t block the tag “tw: incest”. And if you ever try your hand at censoring your tags (ex: “tw e4t1ng d1s0rd3rs” or “tw r*ape”)... not only will you harm people, you will probably be harmed in return. DO NOT CENSOR YOUR TAGS, and except if relevant (if you really want people who censor those words to still read this post) do not censor the words in the post itself.

- Rogue knights who fought under the banner of the Blue Bird prior to its castle’s conquest by the Elongated-Muskrat-blason man, are not seen with a kind eye right now. But boy oh boy, if you betray that you’re from Tiktok, for example with the use of words such as “unalive”, you will wish that someone would use such kind words to describe what will be left of you. Don’t censor yourselves. For the above-mentionned problem, and because using words such as fuck, kill, murder, arson, disembowelment, have no algorithm charged with tracking it. You won’t be censored by the ecosystem: don’t censor yourself.

- The Tumbeasts are the official emblem of the Hellsite. You can use this nicholasname in a derogatory, affectionate or flirtatious manner. Don’t try to hunt the Tumbeasts to extinction. Much like the hydras, you will only find yourself with more ennemies than you could count before starting your quest.

- No one cares for the name, address or age of the mysterious guy who stepped in the saloon. It will actually be sus of them to wear a badge with their real name, age or city, on their chest. Sus people will be taken advantage of or blocked. There’s a third, secret thing, but you’re not old enough to know about it - old in tumblr days of course, not in real-life days.

- The Tumbeasts eat electronical circuits. However if you disturb their sleep they will bite, and they will add to their diet any living moving thing, from blue birds to tiktokers. Ye be warned.

- Don’t try to change us. Others tried before and are no longer around to flaunt their unfortunate attempts. Assimilate. If change has to happen, it will happen organically.

TL;DR: Don’t censor your tags nor yourself, both because it’s useless and because it will actively harm people blocking the full words, and put a pfp and a header. Block liberally. Stay clear of the Fandoms if you’re not ready, there’s no shame in it.

One of my fandom servers recently shared another post about the vicious 'comments-likes-kudos-reblogs-no one is sharing my stuff' cycle that often pop up in internet writer circles.

And after we'd gone on a ways, one of the people in this conversation (the always lovely and astute @captainkilly) pointed out that that what writers want when we complain about things like this - what a lot of us want, anyway - isn't necessarily pure attention, but connection. We want to talk with someone about something that makes us happy. We've written something down specifically for the express purpose of giving voice to a thought we have. We want to have a conversation - ideally a deep and genuine one, but a conversation regardless.

I thought this was a very valid take. And I realized something else, too - To find that person, you have to BE that person.

How do I know this? Because I'm TERRIBLE at it. I have been the person on the sideline stamping my foot that my genius isn’t being noticed and isn’t that awful?  I can't start conversations on the internet FOR BEANS - I can be VERY self conscious when I want to be. I've done this with exactly four people over the last two years. Three of them are still talking to me.

And here's where this story gets interesting. That fourth person? I asked them for perceived internet clout. I wanted to be in their circle because I thought it would bring me fame and recognition and legitimacy and they could put me in front of eyeballs, and you know what, they're NOT still talking to me, because to be honest, I figured out after a while that she didn't care about my stuff - and I had never cared about hers.

But those other three folks? They'd jump through the internet and hit someone for me. I love them to bits. I would jump through the internet for them, too.

Connection, not attention. Talk to people.

I went to go see the new Top Gun again after work ($5 Mondays!) and I think I found the moment in the movie where Phoenix really adopts Bob.

In their first dogfight against Maverick, Hangman is flying with Phoenix and Bob, and after their plane is shot down, Hangman desperately asks for help trying to find Maverick when the sun is in his eyes.

Phoenix reminds him that she's dead and therefore out of the game, and Bob says "See you in the afterlife, Bagman."

It's the first time someone else has used Phoenix's derogatory take on his callsign - and Phoenix smiles. Yeah, this guy's on her team. Just watch someone try to take her WSO. (And he made a joke!)

I regret to inform you that buffer tags don't actually work anymore and haven't for about a year and anything you tag a post means it ends up in those tags. But I do agree and also like that Momoe being cis or trans or intersex or perisex is left up to interpretation because it highlights an overlap in experiences a lot of us have with each other and I wish more people would focus on that overlap instead of arguing about what kind of girl she is when the important thing is she is a girl.

Buffer tags are for keeping posts out of /tagged, but there’s nothing anybody can do to stop from showing up in /search (aside from toggling the setting that also makes their own blog unsearchable in turn) because that tracks the body of the post as well.

But the WEP tag on my post(s) is for me and my organization. First and foremost, my blog is for me and I like being able to find stuff on it, which means that I put relevant tags on every post I make, even if they contain “inflammatory” opinions. I realize this is contrary to how the vast majority of this site uses tags, but it’s sensible and that’s what tagging is for, not the arbitrary tumblr etiquette stuff.

My post was also under a read more with a discourse warning. It’s anybody else’s fault if they’re doing a WEP /search looking for fun stuff and choose to read a hot take (which isn’t even that hot), if they chose to look at the /search page instead of the /tagged page, and if they couldn’t be bothered to consider the “pls no rebagel” tag which was on the post.

I specifically like Momoe being ambiguous because it’s realistic. In the real world, you don’t know other people’s genital configurations or medical histories or birth assignments. I’ve seen punk androgynous teenagers and wondered whether they were queer or genderqueer or trans or cis and in what direction. I’ve clocked adult men as trans only to see childhood photos of them later that verify they’re likely amab. I’ve had friends who look and live their lives as unambiguously cis except they’re closeted trans. I’ve been taken for a cis girl, cis guy, trans girl, trans guy, even before any “medical” transitioning, especially around Momoe’s age. To this day, I’m still not entirely sure whether my queer studies professor had ever transitioned or not because their appearance screamed a certain binary, but it was impossible to tell whether it went through “natural” or “artificial” puberty (those being such terrible ways of describing it, but I can’t use “cis” and “trans” because the prof was non-binary).

So yeah, just like in the real world, the important thing is that she’s a girl. Because in the real world, you're not entitled to nice simple “canon” answers, and that shouldn’t affect how you view, love, or treat a person.

Tortall Daemon AU: Jon

Thanks so much to all of you who liked and rebageled my first post! It was really sweet of y’all! I hope you guys continue to like this AU, even though I think the Daine post might be a bit controversial. Also feel free to request characters! I have a few planned out (the four other lady protagonists, for instance), but I’l do pretty much anybody’s daemons or expand on any aspect of this AU. Anyway, time to talk about Jon!

Jon has a horse

Jon’s daemon, a blue roan mare, is settled by the time he’s introduced as a character. After all, he’s already thirteen, turning fourteen that year, when Alanna comes to Corus. Having such a large daemon is often somewhat problematic, logistically. People in general have larger personal space bubbles in this AU than in real life, due to the ‘no touching daemons’ taboo, and of course you can’t travel far from your daemon so you need to be able to avoid small spaces (and have very sturdy buildings) if you have a big daemon. For the Crown Prince, of course, people are more than willing to make room.

As a warrior, it’s also somewhat inconvenient to have a horse as a daemon. Jon prefers to ride his daemon in battle or for pleasure, but this gives him a certain weakness. Killing the Prince of Tortall is much easier if you only need to kill his mount to get him as well. This would end up being just another reason Jon’s handlers would cite when keeping him away from the real fight, as in In the Hand of the Goddess. Unsurprisingly, this would be infuriating to Jon, who wouldn’t hide it so well. Jon would, however, appreciate being the only one allowed to care for his mount. It would be one of the few things he’s always, always allowed to do himself.

While Jon’s daemon is a source of some of his frustration with his situation as a prince, she’s also a symbol of freedom and rebelliousness, at least from a meta perspective. Horses are tied to ideas of freedom and power, as well as stature. They’re expensive to keep and house, after all. The ones that need to eat, anyway. But also, for the Americans in the crowd, they call up images of the old west, cowboys, shootouts, and answering to no formal law. Until you get hanged. It’s the kind of freedom Jon badly wants, particularly in The Woman Who Rides Like a Man.

But a horse is also a working animal. Horses in the real world are largely extinct as wild animals. “Wild” horses in the US, for instance, are actually feral horses; they’re descended from domestic animals. What I’m getting at here is that horses exist as they do today almost exclusively in relation to, and because of, humans. In Tortall, this would also be the case. I doubt they have feral horses in Tortall (at least, I can’t remember ever hearing about any) so Jon’s daemon’s choice of form would, even if unintentionally, signal his image of himself as someone who belongs to his people. That may seem negative at first, but it ultimately indicates his willingness to put selfish ideas aside and do what is best for Tortall.

As a side note, I think the Bazhir would appreciate a nice piece of horseflesh as a daemon, but obviously the relationship between Jon and the Bazhir is more complex than ‘hey, nice daemon, wanna take over as our spiritual leader?’

So Jon’s horse (ugh, maybe I should just bite the bullet and come up with names for everyone’s daemons) symbolizes both his rebellion from, and his eventual acceptance of, his destiny as king of the realm. Plus, I imagine her as a rather dark gal, so her nice black mane would match Jon’s hair. His canon horse matches, after all, so we gotta make the daemon match at least as much. Too bad it would be weird to describe her on the same level of hotness as Jon, because it would also be kind of funny. “She was just a total babe of a daemon. Like, seriously, the sexiest horse you’ve ever seen.” 

Also, in this AU, Jon never buys Darkness from George. He still goes with Alanna when she buys Moonlight, but he has no need of a new horse so George goes ahead and sells Darkness to someone else. This means that Daine never meets Darkmoon in Wild Magic, as the implication is that he’s the descendant of a mixing of Moonlight and Darkness’s lines. But don’t worry, I’m sure Alanna found a very nice stallion to make babies with Moonlight! I like to think she chose a horse from one of the riders of the Bloody Hawk.

By the way, since of course people have no trouble communicating with their daemons, tack is wholly unnecessary for Jon and his daemon, so unless protocol demands, they’d usually forego reins, bit, saddle, etc.

1- Why did you choose your url?

There's a flower in the Dragon Age games called ochreblossom that I really liked the sound of, and I really like ombre as an aesthetic - hence, ombreblossom.

2- Any side blogs?

Many haha. 4 secret fandom side blogs, a cute animals side blog that I rarely use, a side blog to test Tumblr themes, a writing side blog I created and then never used, and a couple side blogs I use for collecting drafts that won't ever see the light of day.

3- How long have you been on tumblr?

Since late 2010 or early 2011. This blog has been around since May 2020, though. (I accidentally deleted my OG account ;.;)

4- Do you have a queue tag?

Nope! I basically run my entire blog on a queue, so I don’t personally see the point. All the power to folks that do, though.

5- Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I started my OG blog because I wanted to rebagel cute Supernatural fanart haha. I was in the process of making the blogs on my OG account into archives because I wanted to start over fresh when I accidentally deleted the entire thing.

6- Why did you choose your icon/pfp

Right now it's moth!Jon, but it's usually a Picrew rendition of me :) Moth!Jon is one of my favorite TMA fandom things.

7- Why did you choose your header?

It's purple and space-y and at the time I chose it, my blog had an ace flag color scheme.

Mmm. Probably the post about how the audio with Basira, Georgie, and Melanie at the end of MAG 200 is mono and not stereo at ~130 notes.

Several times a day. It’s the social media website I mindlessly scroll when my thoughts are elsewhere. And I do often mean mindlessly.

I, ah, once had a somewhat tense conversation with a popular TMA blogger about Jon’s outing in MAG 106 and how it gets interpreted in the fandom. I like to think we both walked away from that conversation okay, though, despite it being tense. I hope so, anyway.

And I’ve vagued about other people’s bullshit before, too. Not too often, though.

15- How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?

I refuse to reblog them even if I agree with the post. If I have ever reblogged one, it’s because I read it too fast and didn’t notice. I don’t respond well to guilt-tripping.

16- Do you like tag games?

Yes! I like them a lot :D I’m just not great at doing them in a timely fashion....

17- Do you like ask games?

Yeah! But same thing ;.; and I sometimes end up feeling bad that I don’t answer promptly...which makes it take longer to respond to them haa.

Hmm.... I’m mutuals with a few people who are decently famous in the TMA fandom? And I’m mutuals someone who seems decently famous in the Penumbra Podcast fandom but no one “Tumblr famous,” I don’t think. Someone vaguely Tumblr famous followed me for a couple weeks many months ago, but never again haha.

A work for Cosmic Love - Florence at the Machine lyrics for the levihans bc why not (but also partial credit to Sophie @drinkyourfuckingmilk bc i remember her mentioning it that it was a levihan song and i love both cosmic love and the levihans sooooo)

Still transparent edits for the lyrics from Stay With Me - You Me At Six for the yumikuris (my first non-levihan work idea :OOO) but also like if you remember, transparent edits are stuff like the Haunt edit I made for levihan spookfest and the All of Me poster I made for Manna @julystorms​

Which isn’t to say I don’t like others, though. I love the ball of anger and issues and murder that is Jason, and the quiet constantly-impending breakdown that is Tim and hell, even Stephanie has a special place in my heart because she said “lmao fuck it” and made her own costume to do it anyway. I love Damian for how much he hates everything. About the only Robin I’m even impartial to was that one red-haired girl from Frank Miller’s Dark Knight.

A few years back when I was hardcore into Young Justice, that was all I wrote, was Dick Grayson being a dork. I also just love the trope of Tim leaving Robin and growing up to be someone else, it’s my favorite thing. (There’s like, one where he’s House? It’s great.) I like the new Marvel movies and I love what they’re doing and Tony Snark is fabulous and everyone there is great but. I mean. Nightwing.

Send an ask. I usually respond even to non-mutuals, except if the scenario presented before me is too otherworldly for Noctis, or too godmoddy or infomoddy.

Like an ask response so much? ASK ME FIRST before you turn it into a thread. It gives me a heads-up of how many threads I can handle without me needing to sacrifice those already pending.

Answer an open starter. I usually post some now and then.

A few more pointers:

I do not usually ship Noctis and the chocobros. But there have been RPers and RPs that made me change my mind. I won’t jump to shippy at once, but there are muses (Ignis) that my Noct will be by default, will always have a soft spot for.

I do NOT ship Luna x Noctis. I just do not. Do not force me to go there.

I can ship everything else given chemistry, but a ship that works initially doesn’t mean it will keep on working indefinitely. Some ships just don’t work in the long term, some do.

Please learn how to graciously take a NO when I refuse a route, or a ship.
