Sometimes my tennis friends express astonishment at me never abandoning a match even when it’s looking really bad for the player I’m supporting, but I just realised why that’s not that difficult for me… See, it’s the figure skating. Yes, tennis is a sport with lots of ups and downs but when you’ve seen 24 people in a row either produce magic in 4 minutes or completely fall apart in the same amount of time (and everything in between) at one of the handful of competitions each skater has in a season, a lost set or match at one tournament is nothing. Nothing at all.
Figure skating men's event recap at the European Championships 2024 under the cut if you want to read on :-)
I have just seen Ivan Shmuratko of Ukraine open the free skate with a hauntingly beautiful, technically perfect performance and as a consequence jump up 7 places. In contrast, the lovely young Swedish skater, Andreas Nordeback, had a bit of a disaster free skate and fell from 8th to 22nd. Nikita Starostin of Germany did okay and kept his 14th place, Luc Economides of France was slightly chaotic as usual and unfortunately dropped 8 places. Austrian Maurizio Zandron was just as chaotic but jumped up 5 places. Our beautiful Latvian artist Deniss Vasiljevs decided to try for another quad salchow when he fell on his first and even landed it, but got a deduction for repeating the same element twice. Italian Nikolaj Memola, the tallest man in figure skating, made a very respectable tenth place after a challenging season. Another Italian, Matteo Rizzo, competed with a broken back to the song Fix You of all things and produced a miracle of a skate. Gabriele Frangipani (yes, you’ve guessed it, with that name it can only be another Italian) is always stressful to watch because he goes into every jump at breakneck speed. He did so very well today though, 4th place! Aleksandr Selevko, who had never won anything before, backed up his miraculous short program and won the first ever men’s skating medal for Estonia and it was a silver! Meanwhile, his brother had had a catastrophic short program and didn’t even make it into the final 24, so he watched from the audience as history was made for his country. And then Adam Siao Him Fa showed everyone his “French touch” (his words) by putting a forbidden backflip in his program because he knew he had skated so well that no one would overtake him. So he stressed us all out and just took the mandatory deduction for the backflip. And retained his title. And if that hadn’t been enough, poor Lukas Britschgi, our little Swiss guy who usually does better than expected, had a few costly mistakes, and dropped from 2nd to 5th, off the podium, but how can I even find the time to be sad about it when it means that universally beloved Matteo, with his back injury, has just won the bronze…
This sport, man. This fucking sport.

Art I did during my break but don't wanna post on main but you know what. I like Levi and Richard (and Arienne the redhead).
Basically, Levi and Richard go to school together, Richard decides to go by the name Richard and the only person to without question go along with "I'm a boy now" is Levi who calls him Dick. And then gets into fist fights with boys that don't call him Richard. So Richard falls pretty much in love in school then his parents divorce and he moves away.
Many years later (10+) Richard meets Levi again and it's very much nothing grand. Levi overhears Richard introducing himself to someone and is like "lmao Dick? You work here now? Sucks to be you" and Richard is immediately 'I love him so much I hate myself for how easily I give up all dignity for him' but yeah. They work in different departments so Levi does more behind the scenes stuff while Richard talks to clients and is very social.
And their coworkers in both departments love Richard because he's such a nice guy and Levi's department hates Levi a lot cause he's an asshole. (then stuff happens that would require a tw blah blah blah) So after a month of Levi not being at work he returns and Richard immediately goes over to the department to check on him and he's just. Incredibly mellow. No cussing and no cockiness and worst of all, he's being called Richard which is very much not correct from Levi. So he points it out that no one else calls him Dick and if he had a problem with it he would have said something by now so hey, maybe don't suddenly change the entire friendship on your own. (So Levi texts him later to say "sorry for being a dick, Dick" and Richard is v happy and content with that turn out)
Richard is honestly tragically created out of spite for the fact I saw a name IRL and I know that the state that I live in would in fact NOT have someone that intentionally funny and trans so I have to make my own funny trans guy to fill the void.

Anyway if I was Stede and I was having doubts about the person I cared about most giving up everything to save me from a death I think I deserve, and my childhood bully made me walk into the woods at gunpoint, and that bully listed off the horrible things I'd done and I agreed with him completely, and when he was just about to kill me he tripped and died, then I too would walk all the way home barefoot and try to reinsert myself into my old life as if the last five-ish months had never happened.

Sometimes you're just living your best life, rewatching an episode of Lethal Weapon (one of my favorite shows in all the land, in case you're wondering) and you see a brief shot of a character and go "heyyy your profile looks so familiar! Almost like you're in the show I was watching an hour ago--" and then she turns around and is Angela mcfreaking Lopez from The Rookie

tell us about the lltg fic! very curious and interested we need more fic in this fandom
seriously! im so parched for fic! it’s been so long since I’ve seen a het couple I care about. coming out the other side to see 17 fics on ao3… smh. I’m not the best writer and I don’t love doing it—but sometimes you just gotta write the fic if you wanna read it.
anyway, i love the persuasion trope of lovers parted and then reunited and stronger for it. the bitterness is very bitter until suddenly it’s all sweet. but between autumn ballad (which i had a very mixed reaction to) and lltg, i realized why the chinese form of this trope always irks me so much: all the healing happens off screen.
I would love to watch 5 years of pining. two lovers separated but trying to find a way back to one another?? Healing and hurting and forgiving and the relapsing on your forgiveness and hating yourself for willing to take him back. Yeah, I love a breakup/makeup story.
Especially when, at the end, it feels like there’s something to be salvaged from the wreckage of the hurt.
Genuinely, I think forgiveness is one of the more complicated and arduous mental odysseys, but I also think that just means we need more stories that explore the concept.
