Fic Finder

1. I really need help finding a fic! It's either ABO or the Chinese equivalent kunze/qianyuan. It's got some sort of arranged marriage, as Madam Yu(?) marries WWX off to LWJ. In this universe Alphas often do not allow their Omegas to bite them back and create a reciprocated bond, as it gives them power and status in society. LWJ lets WWX bite him back (because he's a romantic and a sap), and the Jiang's are salty because JYL wasn't given a reciprocal bond when she married JZY, so WWX is technically of a higher status than she is now. @star-whatevers
FOUND!🔒Alliance AU by Ilona22 (E, 21k, WangXian, JYL/OC, Arranged Marriage, A/B/O Dynamics, PWP, WangXian Get a Happy Ending, Intersex Omegas, Not JC Friendly, Matchmaking, canon Jiang family dynamics, Family time, Night Hunts, Mention of male omega pregnancy, Intrigue at Jinlintai, Mentions of Prostitution, War, Conflict between characters)

2. Hi! Fic finder plz. Looking for a fic where wwx is "sacrificed" by the other great sects to the gusu lan (in exchange for something? Don't remember). He is given to lwj and all the sects assume wwx is going to be a concubine (so much so that when they present wwx to lwj they dress him up like a concubine). Wwx also expects this and is very surprised when Iwj treats him nicely and everything. You can tell that lwj has fallen for wwx but is holding himself back. Wwx gradually falls for him too. I remember there was a part where the great sects came to visit and were surprised that wwx wasn't treated like a concubine. Tysm!!
FOUND? golden when the day met the night by glitteringmoonlight (Not rated, 95k, slow burn, sugar daddy LWJ, light, angst, fluff, developing relationship, eventual smut, WIP)

3. Hiii!!!
I'm looking for a fic where Lan Zhan is de-aged and the juniors take care of him while on a night hunt. Wei Ying is still away and has not returned and they have not confessed yet. Baby LZ just wants his WY so the junior quartet takes him to Qinghe to a discussion conference or smth. Wei Ying is also called there and LZ just goes and hugs him.
That's all I can remember. I think he was cursed to be more open and vulnerable so that he could confess.
Thanks! @ffaddictsrn

4. I hope you can help, fingers crossed! I've tried everything on this one... Jin sibs murder JGS? sort of along the lines of Qin Su and the boys, but I can't even remember if it was a full fic on Ao3 or maybe even a ficlet/snippet on Tumblr? I think JZX was very shocked/normal reaction but siding with his siblings and JGY/MXY/QS were all stab-happy gremlins? I think JGY and QS might have found out much earlier that they were related and planned revenge together? Any help would be great, thank you! @katonahottinroof
I read #4 a few weeks ago😭 I believe lan zhan was a courtesan/prostitute who was supposed to assassinate wei ying, and lan zhan was beholden to meng yao for saving him. lab zhan ends up going to wei yings home in the burial mounds and gets poisoned I think ? does this sound familiar? the story may be tagged under courtesan lan zhan or prostitute lan zhan

5. Good afternoon! I hope everyone has had a pleasant day.
Can’t say how many of my favorite stories have been found through you guys!
For the next fic finder.
I’m looking for a fic that has both a/b/o in it but also the lan clan were dragons and wwx was a fox, I think. Either one or both, I can’t quite recall.
Oh and it’s set in study arch.
Wwx and Lwj were already a couple or courting at the very least.
Anyway what I remember the clearest was a part where wwx was walking some stairs, might have been the stars to cloud recesses.
Anyway a spiritual dog suddenly appears and I think starts chasing or just barking at wwx.
Anyway twin jades to the save.
It is later revealed that the dog belonged to Jin Zixun which was confirmed by Zixuan who recognized the dog.
That’s all I remember.
Have a nice day and keep up the fantastic work! @ravenwithwings

6. There's this wangxian fanfic I know I've read more than once, but I can't seem to find it anymore! Ok, so it's a modern world with cultivation fic, and in it the 5 Great Sects are like big crime syndicates or something similar. Wei Ying has his own territory in Yiling where he is known, of course, as the Yiling Laozu. The story uses specific terms to refer to some characters' status. Ex: Lan Wangji is the Red Pole of the Lan Sect, and Meng Yao is, I think, the Straw Sandal. Pls help me find it? @dreammaiden21

7. Hi there! I hope you can help me figure out which fic I have just remembered. I think it might have been an ABO fic, but I'm not sure. All I remember is one scene. There was some kind of trial, and WWX was seated in some kind of special alcove where nobody could see or hear him, so that he could watch without encountering the Jiangs. I think he made some kind of comment about the type of court drama that would necessitate such a feature being built. Does anyone else remember this? Thank you!! @balleyboley

8. hi! potentially very long shot, but I'm looking for a fic with this quote "Besides, no one ‘was good,’ in some isolated way. Good was a relation between people. Good was a thing you did." I saved this quote then, and sadly can't remember any other details about this fic... I'd love find it to reread again, thank you! @potatokunst

9. Fic finder request: there's a fic I only recall some details of. In this fic, dual cultivation in the Cold Pond Cave contributes to the security of the Cloud Recesses, but it has to be done by powerful cultivators with a member of the main family. MY and LXC are married in this fic, but they are unable to use this method of boosting security because MY's cultivation level is not high enough. Wangxian do it eventually, and when they leave the Cold Pond Cave, they are congratulated (?) by the Lans, who were waiting outside. WWX is also welcomed into the sect as one of their own. I think JC comments at some point that it's really weird for him to be safe in Cloud Recesses because of this reason. Please help me find this fic!

10. Hello! I am looking for a fic that might have been canon-esque, but also could have been modern, where Mama Lan calls Lan Zhan her little bird. Only I think for a while the author gave us the Chinese word for it, which I don't recall what it was. It's translated later in the story. Thank you!

11. Looking for a longfic I read a while back. The elements I remember are that the Lan figured out that WWX wasn't being properly compensated/treated as a head disciple of the Jiang and the deliberate stunting of his academic education was a violation of (handwavy) Jianghu high academia codes of conduct. As a result the Lan got WWX his backpay and the Jiang teachers got shunned by their academic peers. Had similar vibes to Stunted, Starving Juvenility, but I did a reread of that recently and I'm pretty sure it was a different fic. Thanks! @alychelms
Love this one and recently read it, but not it. The fic I'm looking for was definitely in canon-setting

12. Hi, I really need help finding a fic I read on ao3 some time ago. It was a modern day fic, I believe set in America, where wei ying and lan zhan meet again at jiang yanli’s wedding. They both act awkward around each other and don’t really interact until they are all in the hotel lobby and wei ying is trying to leave because LZ…but yanli tells lan zhan to give him a ride because it’s suppose to be a long ride home (to a different state I believe and lan zhan will be driving by it either way so it’s ideal) Wei ying tries to reject the idea but LXC gets involved too and he’s like it’s a good idea. It’s like a long drive/road trip fic where they are forced to interact and make up. Thank you for your time and effort.
Hi, I wrote to you asking for fic #12 on your may 13th post. I ended up finding it. It was a wlw fic 7:15 from Chicago by milesofheart. I’m sorry for the inconvenience but thank you for this platform, allowing me to ask in the first place.

13. I need help finding a fic. I've looked through my AO3 history and had no luck. Here's what I remember: Its a modern AU (I dont recall if its modern Cultivation or modern without magic) WWX is on the outs the Jiangs but is close to the Nies. There is a scene where NHS puts put Nie braids into WWX hair, and LWJ is jealous and takes them out. WWX developed a software that the Nies distribute and the Jiangs use. It was Wen Ning and Nis Huaisang centric. Chapter one was Wen Ning helping NHS escape qishan, chap 2 was NHS helping WN break outta the Jin dungeon and I think chap 3 was them talking about it??
I think Hua Cheng and Xie Lian made a very brief cameo in the third chapter?

16. Hi...
I am looking for this fic that I read a long time ago. It's a modern au and mpreg, where at the airport Wei ying went to the toilet and left a yuan with strangers (Mr & Madam Lan). Both of them thought twin jade especially lan zhan had a secret child as a yuan share similarities with the lan gene. If I'm not mistaken, Wei ying works together with lan zhan before leaving the country because of pregnancy and lan zhan doesn't even know about it. I don't remember why...🤔
Please help me find it. Thank you for your time 😊 @hazeylove89 //

17. hello! trying to find a specific tumblr post (not here but out in the wild) about yllz wwx actually being a fairly solid ghost who died in the burial mounds and knows he's dead but expects the ones he loves to also pick up on that and mourn him/give offerings? but none of them do; they see solid and assume alive, so he's feeling hurt about it. pretty sure it's here on tumblr somewhere but will accept fic recs

hello! #19 from the latest fic finder (may 13th). yes! it does! wwx goes to lwj's and they 'talk' about whatever happened and then they end up having sex.
bummer that they made it private, thank you for the help though!
sounds like a fic that has been privated/hidden by Pancho I believe , in the story does wei ying end up going over to Lan zhan and they have sex?

20. hiii, i need help finding a fic on ao3 where lan wangji and wei wuxian time travel to the past and tell the sect leaders some form of info. the sect leaders are then nosy and weird about it so they end up using something to spy on them? lan xichen feels guilty but joins in anyway. in the scene that the sects see wwx and lwj are sitting and wwx is combing lwj's hair i think ? the two are aware that they're being watched as well. i don't remember much else, but i hope that's accurate enough. thank you so much.

I have been summoned by the newest chapter of losing hope :3
Not much happened but I’m taking this as a “I will give you fluff both after and before things go to shit”
Jingyi being Jin Ling’s reluctant friend is honestly pretty hilarious and I can’t wait to see those two start to get close because I feel like that’ll be like “I hate this person with every fiber of my being but if you make him cry there will be nobody searching for your body and no body to find either.” Especially after they realize the type of environment he was in his entire life in comparison to their childhoods. They’re goofy and I love ‘em.
Wangxian being shameless is always amazing (love that it’s LWJ doing it too!) but Wwx missing his sword. Jesus, that made me sad. It’d be interesting to see how suibian communicates with Wwx because in canon we know that the swords have spirits but that’s never really expanded upon. Especially since suibian sealed itself. It’d be nice to see them communicating with their weapons (also imagine suibian mother henning Wwx? Or even Wwx thinking of suibian as a sibling/parental figure? The angst for that would be great especially combined with the scene of Wwx giving away his golden core. Both of them would know Wwx would never be able to properly use suibian again and wow that would hurt. Also I’d imagine since Jiang cheng can also use suibian, suibian does care for him much like Wwx but also it’d be funny if it didn’t particularly like him. Like, the entire time Jiang cheng uses suibian it is fluently cursing at him.)
Jingyi picking up on LWJ pining/flirting is very funny but probably not as funny as it will be when sizhui realizes that A) they’ve both been pining for each other for almost two decades B) 100% they are not in a relationship even if they’re totally shameless with each other and C) they both SOMEHOW have NO IDEA that the other likes them back. The facepalm when that realization sinks in will be funny :3
As always fuck JGY.
Also as always, your writing is amazing four and I wish I could give you more Kudos <3333
Remember to take care of yourself and take breaks!
Just...just picture me holding you close right now. That's it, that's the sentence.
Now, I don't know what you meeeaaaan, there is barely any angst in my fic whatsoever and there will never be anymore angst-...*checks timeline doc*....for nowwww....In all seriousness though, I can't actually remember/decide if there will be any angst next chapter, but oh boy if there was wouldn't that be silly. Wouldn't that be sooo goofy? Guess we'll never ever ever EVER know. I was feeling soft and silly, and this was more of a filler chapter, so I was like, "fluff be upon ye" I guess.
Jingyi and Jin Ling are going to have a very interesting friendship - Jin Ling's been raised differently because Wei Wuxian has kind of been a part of his childhood, so I wonder if that will affect how he builds/views relationships with other people - what do you MEAN I can't foreshadow in my post, who said that?! Anyway, I can't wait to think about it from Lan Sizhui's perspective; dude feels bad for Jin Ling because it is OBVIOUS that this poor guy does not know how to talk to people and if he is befriending what everyone labels as a dangerous criminal, then he is in severe need of friendship. Then there's Jingyi in the background, barking like a chihuahua every time Jin Ling does something that the Lan doesn't like until they devolve into fighting.
Ever since I learned about sword spirits, I've always wondered how Suibian would interact with Wei Wuxian and how they work together. I read one too many SVSSS fics where sword spirits hold a big value in them and it was all downhill from there. Think about it - Wei Wuxian had a lot of people who knew him in Lotus Pier, but he was never truly vulnerable with anyone (except maybe Jiang Yanli, but even then, it wasn't much) because he didn't want to sound ungrateful. So, imagine a Wei Wuxian who found solace in ranting to Suibian. Now imagine a Suibian listening and soothing in their own way. You see my vision, right? Imagine losing that when he needed it the most, during the Burial Mounds. Imagine finally being able to get it back after years of unforgettable trauma and torture, when he desperately needs someone he can rely on without second guessing everything to do with human duality. That doesn't exist with a sword spirit - Suibian just cares.

“Is this a new car?” she asked, taking in the black, sporty vehicle.
It is a new car, but it's Jiang Cheng she can't keep her hands off of- even though Wen Qing is NOT the sort of person who hooks up at someone else's wedding.
(If the hook up is before you arrive, it doesn't count. She swears.)
Modern AU, previous but not current intimate ChengQing relationship. Hook-up in a car (parked, but the front seat, and I successfully resisted the impulse for someone's butt to hit the horn, you're welcome). The entire fic is below as well, but feel free to use the AO3 link. Your call.
***
They broke up years ago, in college, but found themselves drifting together and apart, over and over. Their friend group had at least a fifty percent overlap, Wen Qing estimated, so it was a fairly natural ebb and flow. She couldn’t help that she liked Jiang Cheng’s voice and sharp jawline and biting humor, his fashion sense and how his hair was always perfectly trimmed. And she’d spent a good amount of effort teaching him how to please women in general and her in particular; it’d be a waste if she didn’t test him occasionally to see how much he remembered.
(He always remembered. It was part of why she kept coming back.)
Today was another drift together, a wedding they were both attending. He picked her up after he got out of work, still in his suit. His only concession to the non-office environment his slightly-loosened tie and a top button undone.
“Thanks for carpooling with me,” Wen Qing said as she joined him outside her apartment building. He greeted her, somewhat stiffly but that was just his way, before he took her overnight bag and tucked it in the truck.
“Is this a new car?” she asked, taking in the black, sporty vehicle.
“It is,” Jiang Cheng said, pride creeping into his voice. She knew jack shit about cars, but from a purely visual standpoint, it had a nice enough shape, clean lines and all that, although it was the sort of sportscar a man would get to compensate for something. Which meant it was perfect for Jiang Cheng, who had a multitude of issues his therapist was surely writing papers about.
(It wasn’t even her being unfair. He’d made the joke himself, after he got more open about admitting he was seeing a professional. She remembered it because she’d been proud of him for talking about his problems instead of holding everything in until he burst and they’d had a memorably messy tryst in celebration. He had a photo of the result somewhere, and it was a measure of her trust that she didn’t demand it be deleted.)
Wen Qing made the appropriate sounds of mild interest in the new car and let him talk as they started driving. He kept it remarkably low key for such an expensive new toy- he must have been rehearsing what he’d say, to keep himself from nattering on at someone he knew wouldn’t care.
“There’s a blanket and extra cushions in the back,” he said after the blessedly short description of engine specs. “The seats aren’t quite as comfortable as the old car and I thought you might want them. Feel free.”
“I hadn’t noticed the seats, but thank you. That was thoughtful.” Wen Qing smiled at him as he glanced over. Jiang Cheng was an attentive driver after years of driving with his sibling’s kids, so it was only an instant, but that was all it took for her to see his lips curved up in response, pleased that he had her approval.
‘I was not going to be one of those women that hook up at a wedding!’ Wen Qing scolded herself, but her heart gave a little flutter of appreciation anyway. He was cute when he smiled, after all, and he always smiled at her and said “Thank you” when they spent intimate time together, too. She was very nearly programmed to soften at the sight. ‘Dammit, Jiang Cheng. Why are you handsome?’
The drive was peaceful for a bit, thankfully. Just meaningless small talk or comfortable silences. At least, Wen Qing thought they were comfortable until she caught Jiang Cheng sneaking glances at her from the corner of his eye.
“What? What is it?” She smoothed her hair in front of her ears, suddenly worried that she didn’t match his exacting standards.
“Stop fussing, you look nice,” he grumbled, annoyed at being caught peeking. “I was just thinking you look pretty. Like you haven’t aged since we met.”
“Oh. Thank you.” Not that she was worried about aging yet, but it was nice to hear. She patted his knee to reassure him and returned her hand to its neutral position on her lap.
It didn’t stay there. She patted him again later during a lively discussion on destination weddings (since they were going to one), letting him know he wasn’t the only one who thought it was a pain in the ass. She touched his arm three times during other moments, and almost did it again before she caught herself. ‘What is up with me today?’ she thought, but she knew. She knew she wanted him. He always looked good in a suit, and a strand of his hair had come loose from its styling and hung right next to his right eye, and that was too charming. His lips were curved in a smile, relaxed for a change and all because of her, which she was always excited by since he relaxed so rarely. And his hands were confident on the wheel and stick shift of the car in a way that made her want those hands on her.
The next time she had an opportunity to pat his knee, she left her hand there. His breath hitched and his eyes flicked over to her. She waited a bit before she caressed his thigh, slow and soft, ready to move away if he asked. He didn’t ask though, not even when he shifted gears at a stop light and brushed the back of her hand, not when he glanced to his side and saw her lick her lips, not even when she smirked and dragged her fingers farther up his thigh.
What he did do, after miles of driving with her teasing him, was pull over.
It was a secluded spot in a parking area for a scenic overlook of some sort. There were white flowers blooming on the trees, offering shade and a picturesque fall of petals. The parking area was empty and small and shaded, and clearly hadn’t been repaved in many years. Wen Qing didn’t bother gawking at the flowers or reading the tourist signage for the little park near their spot, though, not when Jiang Cheng turned the car off and yanked her closer. “I was going to behave,” he said, voice so low he was nearly growling. “But your hand… Are you serious? About that?”
“About touching you? Yes, I am,” she said, and she closed the distance between them. The stick shift dug into her thigh and she had to break the kiss because she forgot to take her seatbelt off first and couldn’t stand the pulling. He didn’t laugh, thankfully, and yanked her close once she was free.
Their kiss was frantic and hard. Wen Qing had one hand on his cheek while both his arms were around her. Her other hand slipped inside his suit jacket and down his stomach, deliberately telegraphing her intentions. He moaned against her mouth when she started tugging at his belt. So far her desire was stoked mainly through her own imagination, and hearing confirmation through that one soft sound made her ache for him.
She glanced up, and satisfied they were still alone, asked him, “Are you still clean?”
“I showered this morning,” he said without thinking and she bit his lip in retaliation.
“The other kind of clean. Jerk.”
His color was high but he was too eager to stay angry with her (at the moment. He was fully capable of being furious and aroused and Wen Qing got even wetter at the memory. She kind of liked it when he was commanding, at least).
“I haven’t bothered with anyone since you. Didn’t feel like dealing with it. So yeah, I’m still clean.” Wen Qing wriggled partially into his lap and peppered kisses on his cheeks.
“I don’t have any condoms on me. But I’m still on the pill. So we can-“
He interrupted her with another fierce kiss, his hands cupping her backside and pulling her closer. “We can do whatever we want,” she finished, panting against his lips. Jiang Cheng kissed her again, and again, with his right hand still on her ass. She barely noticed his left was gone, wrapped up in their kisses as she was.
There was a jolt and a drop, and Wen Qing flopped onto his chest with an undignified yelp. He had reached to his left, to the controls of his seat, and slammed the manual lever to lower the back. They were now practically lying down in the driver’s seat.
“That’s better,” he sighed, putting his hand back on her and holding her close. From this angle, she could feel how aroused he was and she forgot to scold him for surprising her. He felt good under her, his dress-shirt soft on her fingers but his muscles hard beneath, his hips the perfect width for straddling. Wen Qing peeked up again, making sure no one else had pulled into their parking lot, and went for his belt.
His cock was still as nice as she remembered- a good size to hold, thick enough that he would fill her nicely, already hard and flushed and waiting for her. Yeah, he wasn’t the biggest she’d ever seen (that would be Nie Mingjue, but Wen Qing was no size queen and a cock of Nie Mingjue’s size was for special occasions only, as far as she was concerned), but Jiang Cheng /fit/ her like no one else did. Wen Qing wrapped a hand around him and stroked, marveling at the way he felt in her hand and how pretty he looked with his eyes squeezed tight and his mouth slack.
She leaned forward, pressing her chest against him as she whispered, “Can I ride you, Jiang Cheng?”
Her hand never stopped and his reply was a moaned out, “Yeah, that’s good. Fuck.” Only then did she pause her ministrations, wriggling her panties down her hips. Jiang Cheng fumbled at them, pushing at them but getting in the way in his eagerness to squeeze her ass. She somehow managed to get one leg free even with his misplaced hands and squirmed back into place, this time with her bare flesh against his. She rocked against him just to hear him moan, her wet folds pressed against the length of his cock. She teased him like this, glancing up to check for other people before she ground against him. The shaft of his cock parted her lips and he choked back another noise.
Wen Qing leaned forward to kiss him as she moved, and Jiang Cheng took the opportunity to shift a hand to his cock. He held it up so the tip nudged at her entrance as she rocked against him. She smirked at him, then captured his lips in a very thorough kiss as she threw her hips back and engulfed his length in her aching channel. His cry was muffled against her mouth, his hands squeezed her ass, and he thrust up into her.
(There was no leisurely make-out, which was one of her top things to do with Jiang Cheng because she’d also taught him how to kiss and cuddle just the way she liked, but that wasn’t what either of them needed. Time enough for that later, Wen Qing thought, and dammit she /was/ the sort of woman who hooks up at a wedding. Her main consolation was that maybe this wouldn’t count as hooking up at the wedding because they hadn’t arrived yet.)
Somehow they managed enough friction between them, fucking hard and fast and thankfully without hitting any gearshifts or brake pedals or -heaven forbid- horns. Wen Qing ground against him, their bodies pressed too tightly together for him to get his fingers on her clit. Jiang Cheng bucked up into her. It was awkward and unrhythmic but it did the job, and eventually she pressed her hips down as her inner walls tightened around him, so close to coming that her body nearly quivered. He swore and pulled her closer, his hands squeezing- not painfully, not in the heat of the moment, but hard and needy. If she were more delicate, she would bruise, but she didn’t care.
She came hard as his hands dug into her hips, and the instant she arched against him with her cunt pulsing, he came inside her with another curse and a groan. They tried not to pant into each other’s mouths as they caught their breath and Wen Qing buried her face against his neck.
“Congrats on your new car,” she said against his skin.
“Thank you,” he said, his hands now gentle on her backside. “I hope you’re enjoying it.”
She couldn’t resist. She caressed the seat leather and told him, “Yes, I am.”
(After some time, they arrived at the wedding venue, Wen Qing /definitely/ became the type of woman who hooked up at a wedding, and Jiang Cheng proved yet again that he had a fantastic memory regarding her body. Jiang Cheng’s sporty black car was named Qiu-meimei, after the white catalpa flowers that got stuck to the hood when they’d pulled over in that isolated rest stop on the way. And Wen Qing was so touched, she didn’t have the heart to make fun of his naming sense for a whole week.)
(End Note: The car's name is 楸 Qiū- catalpa, a flowering tree, + meimei- little sister. I am aware that flower names are sometimes/often used for sex workers in Chinese and that's part of the joke.)

T, 44k, Wangxian
Summary: “Hello?” She answered, expecting a telemarketer. “Hello,” a polite voice replied. “Is this the residence of Wei Ying?” Jiang Yanli’s her grip on the receiver tightened. “It is,” she replied calmly, waving at Wei Ying to get his phone out. “This is his sister. May I ask who is calling?” “I suspect you know the answer to that,” the man said. His voice, though smooth and pleasant, sounded tired. “Lan Zhan?” She guessed, turning to see Wei Ying staring at her instead of calling the police. She tried to urge him with her expression. “No,” the man replied. “I am afraid my younger brother is in no position to make phone calls, or perform illegal spellwork for that matter.” He didn’t just sound tired, she realised. He sounded… heartbroken. “He has been in a coma for some time, and the doctors do not believe he will last the night.” After his brother's core is destroyed—a fatal injury—Lan Huan seeks out Lan Zhan's soulmate. Wei Ying agrees to share his spiritual energy with this beautiful stranger over the course of several weeks in order to save his life. They don't stay strangers for long.
Kay's comments: A wonderful modern AU with a nice flavour of magical realism and soulmates. After Lan Zhan's core gets damaged, Lan Huan makes use of a forbidden ritual to find his soulmate - the only one who can heal him. Luckily, Wei Wuxian doesn't press charges and instead immediately takes the next flight to save Lan Zhan's life. They fall in love. Lots of domestic fluff in this story and only minor angst.
Excerpt: Wei Ying eyed his brother for another moment before shrugging to himself. He turned back to Lan Zhan, his smile reappearing. "I'm really here for you!" Whatever Lan Zhan had expected him to say, it had not been that. "For me?" "Yeah! What are you supposed to do when a handsome prince falls into a cursed sleep?" Wei Ying laughed, eyes glittering. "Bring his true love to kiss him awake, of course!" The man pointed to himself with both thumbs. The man's meaning struck Lan Zhan in the gut. He turned to his brother in horror, only to find him looking back, chin high. Lan Zhan's eyes widened in shocked anger. "It was the only way to save you, little brother."
modern setting, modern with magic, magical realism, set in australia, pov wei wuxian, pov lan wangji, soulmates, musician lan wangji, scientist wei wuxian, strangers to lovers, getting together, getting to know each other, good sibling lan xichen, good sibling jiang yanli, bad parent lan qiren, hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending, angst and hurt/comfort, hospitals, hurt lan wangji, recovery, sharing a bed, hair washing, marriage proposal, sibling bonding

Looking over it... As usual there seems to be a divide between comedic fics (which start off with overblown portentiousness, then devolve into something silly) and serious fics, which simply open with a scene description.
One common theme seems to be that a serious story starts on a sudden flare of something -- of light (a match) or sound (a phone rings, or a buzzer sounds) and then orients from that point and goes forward. And Shen Qingqiu's stories seem to consistently start with him waking up, while other POVs don't.
Other than that, I don't see a lot of commonality.

Hello there! Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I have a question. When do you plan to update your MDZS role reversal au fic? I've been addicted to the role reversal AU lately and I'm so glad you made one! I also really like the concept you came up with where only WWX died while LWJ didn't. Thank you in advance. Have a nice day<33

Created and Mastered Demonic Cultivation. Fought a war. Won the aforementioned. Protect innocent prisoners of war from unjust punishment because of their shitty relatives. Long story short, he died like the scum that he was. So what makes it confusing is that his school friend (Crush? What could have been?) brings him back from the dead to help him find his dead big brother's body and help him take down the current chief cultivator. All the while avoiding his Sect Leader older sister who will flay him alive when she catches him. And also try to bond with his half-orphaned nephew. Easy right? (Or a role reversal au where the yunmeng siblings switched personalities and roles)

Okay modern AU, one with tons of boats, Yunmeng siblings grew up on yachts because their family big rich boat makers. WWX has like five personal boats lmao, Uncle Jiang keeps giving them to him when he’s upset over things lol. He even lived on one for a while after schooling. It was calming and WN came to stay with him a lot lol.
Anyways. Now he’s married with a toddler and they’re like ‘sure, a family vacation on the yacht sounds like fun’ and they’re all ready to be there, even Momma Yu (I need AUs where she’s a grumpy mother to three brats, not the nicest but at least in a modern AU she would accept and maybe even love WWX) and Papa JFM are there and ready to coddle their first grandbaby.
Only to instantly realize, that not only does A-Yuan get seasick… but it’s downright distressing to him in the worst way. Like in canon there was no reason that if it was light sickness he would have had to take a moment to breathe and calm himself down before he got on the bot, but he really did. He was straight up about to panic with the boat issues.
So. JFM gets thrown up on, then JZX, who’s way too gullible to little hands reaching for him with teary eyes, JC is avoiding them at all costs, they have docked at an area near their boathouses and LWJ and WWX are walking A-Yuan there while calling in reinforcements. The reinforcements? Granny Wen, who happily adopted WWX as another grandson, who is going to come to the lake and stay in one of the rental houses for the week with A-Yuan and them. It’s not the same, and they might even try seeing if A-Yuan can sleep in WWX’s room on the boat at night to see if it acclimates him to it. He’s at least less stressed than that first day and tries. Granny Wen swaps out with pretty much the whole family over who gets to watch the baby while she gets her own nice little vacation for the first time in a while too, lol.

WangXian Twilight AU
Cangse Sanren and Wei Changze send their son Wei Wuxian to Caiyi so he can study in the prestigious Cloud Recess University, he reunites there with his cousins Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli and makes friends with Nie Huaisang, the first day is normal and all, with the only weird thing being Huaisang warning him about a student, Lan something. Wei Wuxian doesn't pay attention. Big Mistake
He enters one of his classes and there, sittting next to the only sit available, is the most handsome man ever. Wei Wuxian would be swooing except he also has the meanest glare of all. Literally the guy is killing with his golden eyes (golden eyes?). Wei Wuxian being the sun he is, tries to have a conversation with the stranger to no avail, as soon as the bell rings, the guy practically runs out of the classroom, not without sending his way another killing glare
Later, Wei Wuxian will hear him trying to change his schedule (really, whats up with this guy?!)
During lunch the next day he finally learns who the fuddy duddy is thanks to Nie Huaisang: "I told you to not get on his bad side!!! Didnt I told you???"
Wwx "I don't know, maybe?? Who is he?"
Enter the five most fashionable people Wei Wuxian has ever seen (and he has live with aunt Yu and Jiang Yanli)
Wwx "okay, who are they???"
Cue Jiang Cheng groaning next to him
NHS "The Lans and the Jins, their families supposedly have been friends for centuries, and the Lans adopted the Jins after their father died, or so I heard, they are mostly together and they keep them to themselves, they are extremely hot and the only ones worth of their time are Da-ge and Yanli-jie apparently
"And do they have names or I just go 'hot 1, hot 2, sexy 1, sexy 2 and gorgeous?" Wwx doesnt realize the young adults are smirking, and one is frowning
Jiang Cheng sighs and unwillingly enters the conversation
"The one that looks like a peacock is Jin Zixuan, Jie likes him for some reason and has been the only person he has talk to that we know, the one next to him with the ridiculous but cute beanie is Jin Ziyao..."
"Da-ge kinda likes him and has manage to talk to him on several ocasions or so I've heard" Nie Huaisang interrupts
"Yes, they are brothers, the one sitting next to them is Luo Quingyan, I think she is their cousin" Wei Wuxian nods appreciatively at Jiang Cheng's words, she is hot "The tall one is Lan Xichen, he is...."
"Hot, handsome, nice, gentleman, friendly and everything good in this word??" Huaisang probes, and to Wei Wuxian surprise and amusement, A-Cheng blushes
"Shut up Huaisang! I never said that!!" He tries so hard not to scream that is hilarious "stop saying nonesense or I'll break your fucking legs!" The younger Nie just dies of laughter next to him, also trying not to be too loud, Wei Ying notices with curiosity "I was gonna say that Lan Xichen is the head of the student council"
"And gorgeous?" Wei Ying asks, prompting A-Cheng's eyebrow to quirk
"He is Lan Wangji, Lan Xichen's younger sibling and the head of discipline around campus, his punishments are lengendary so you really dont want to get on his bad graces"
Wei Wuxian openly laughs delighted, a beautiful sound that makes the younger Lan freeze for a moment
"I think thats a little bit too late A-Cheng, Im pretty sure he hates me already... but thats okay, I'll be his friend in no time!"
Jiang Cheng groans as Nie Huaisang looks at him in awed
For Wei Wuxian, the year just got much more interesting

ep38 (1/3): that which resembles a romance but is in fact a horror short film
Tumblr media
lsz is eager to help ofc, but wwx doesn't know who he is yet
Tumblr media
wwx asking for jl and the jiang bell matters - his connection to his old home and family. and apparently the jiang bells are powerful? they were more described in the book. I actually forgot they were even in the show since they're barely talked about
Tumblr media
THERE SHE IS!!!!!!!! I love a-qing, such a strong personality, her own goals and motivations, curious and intelligent and out for herself and brave. it is shitty to pretend to be disabled, but I'm going to blame the author for that instead of a 16 yr old orphan girl living on the streets. it's not like it doesn't backfire on her anyway
Tumblr media
also she's so funny. 'why do men dress nice when they're poor, this is an attack on me specifically'
Tumblr media
FIRST MEETING!!! that blindfold is alarming but the blood looks a little pale (fake)
Tumblr media
ohh I could swoon. saints and heroes don't really exist in this world, it's too complicated and brutal for them to survive. but xxc was as close as anyone else ever got and I think a-qing knew she'd never meet someone as special as him again
not to say he doesn't have flaws - his naivete is disastrous for all of them and he overlooks her concerns out of a patronizing dismisiveness when he should be respecting her instincts, which helped her survive all her life on the streets. also, it's admirable of him to be nonjudgemental but xy just has odious vibes and it's a tragedy he was so charmed by him that he didn't pick up on that. sort of a xxc jgy situation except xy was fully in love with him or whatever approximates love for him and I still think jgy was mostly using lxc to survive. so another dark foil to wx just as songxiao are a lighter (but still tragic) parallel
Tumblr media
anyway he thinks a-qing is funny and is clearly endeared by her, and she clearly likes him a lot despite lying to him. their dynamic has so much chemistry and potential for being great family, it's a shame they're not more popular to write about. this is probably one of the only reasons he's had to smile since he and SL parted ways
Tumblr media
smart girl! this guys sounds like bad news, so get outta there
Tumblr media
ah! curse the hyperdeveloped senses of a cultivator!
unlike the tragedy of wwx, this could literally have all been avoided if not for a single person - there are many ways to rewrite this and just have them never cross paths. of course, that misses out on the richness of this story and the themes at play, not to mention their significance for the wider narrative, so I don't particularly like yi city fix-its before the fact. but they're definitely easy
Tumblr media
christ he's bleeding like craxy. what did they do to him. and why didn't they do it better
Tumblr media
of course as soon as he sees xxc he's like FUCK
Tumblr media
yeah and if xy lets xxc touch his hand he'll know he's missing his pinky
...not that I like to think about them having a relationship but IF they had sex I wonder how he managed that
Tumblr media
god this is so kind 😭 why couldn't it have been wwx that xxc found and they just had a nice little family time (they're cousins or something) for a decade or so before wwx was comfortable enough to leave. MAN
Tumblr media
a-qing sleeping in that coffin then hopping out is so cute I love her
Tumblr media
it's only been a day and already he looks perfectly groomed clean robes clear skin fully hydrated etc. the man knows how to look good I gotta say
Tumblr media
and he starts right off by being a piece of shit to a-qing. I think the siblings dynamic can be really funny but lbr in canon he terrorized her and she hated him for it
Tumblr media
I thought this was kind of dumb. like even if she was blind anyone would feel a SWORD. and if he learns she's not really blind, what, xxc is disappointed? I suppose it means he's less careful around her. bc she was able to witness a lot of his crimes bc he wasn't as watchful, assuming she couldn't see (and therefore could never understand what was happening? ableist of him)
Tumblr media
a-qing: please don't leave me alone with this scary stranger we picked up by the side of the road, he's really aggressive and he's lying about who he is and I think he's dangerous
xxc: oh you silly girl. he'll be leaving soon *immediately starts flirting with him*
Tumblr media
actually xy comes at this with a very specific angle. it's almost like he's emulating wwx - he presents himself as someone hardworking, uncomplaining, and good-hearted despite the hardships he's clearly gone through. of course xxc was taken in
Tumblr media Tumblr media
haha no big deal! I'll just casually drop this little fact! it's definitely not something I want you to know about me so you can sympathize with me while admiring how blase I am about it! MAN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
on the one hand I can see why xxc is being so open-minded and I appreciate his kindness. on the other hand he IS misled by his own feelings and she is also literally right. she gives him good reasons not to trust him and he's like *pats her on the head* we'll be fine
Tumblr media
the head-pats are sweet when coming from adults to their kids (or jyl to wwx) but it just feels patronizing here
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
literally this is blatant flirting. a-qing off to the side going 😭 he has a crush what I am supposed to do now!!
Tumblr media
and THIS??? I was so shocked the first time I saw this I was like THIS is allowed but wwx and lwj can't hug??? huh??? idk the exact specifications of the censorship but in some ways xy/xxc hits you harder with the gay subtext than any other couple including wx which is so wild to me. and also deeply tragic obviously
I think it helps that the writers have a very solid idea of what this relationship is and exactly how each character felt at every moment of it. meanwhile for wx interactions can be very inconsistent and confusing. anyway GET YOUR HANDS OFF HIM YOU FREAK
so yeah overall super eerie and frightening to see xxc fall so readily in love with someone you KNOW is cruel and sadistic and lying to him and deceiving him. like this could have been a cute second-love kind of deal with a new family in a new city. fresh start. but then again, no it couldn't have

Sass! For the ask game please!
🤔❤️❤️🚔👌💀
🤔 Give me a random headcanon
Oh, you know me, I love giving headcanons. Okay, one that I haven't given (or maybe I have, I've written over 100+ headcanons, I don't remember what I said or didn't say) is that Chen Yuzhi tends to curse in either English or Japanese whenever he's really frustrated. It just slips out sometimes and it surprises Jiang Yuelou when he just hears Chen Yuzhi exclaim in a foreign tongue something that probably was very vulgar cuz it sounded angry and vulgar (it also forces Jiang Yuelou to at least try to know those languages so he can hear what Chen Yuzhi says because he wants to be in on the tea too)
❤️ What’s your favorite Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi moment? (good luck, there are many)
Jin, there are so many. So many fucking moments. Oh my god...hng...well, since I'm currently on ep. 19 rn of the rewrite, I'll go with my favorite ep. 19 moment where Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi are eating wontons and Jiang Yuelou asked if it's too late to be treated and Chen Yuzhi just responds in a fond but exasperated voice that it's too late and then they look at each other with such fucking heart eyes...like my god, put it away. Stop making me feel single
❤️ What’s your favorite Zhan Junbai and Yu Tangchun moment? (gotta show them some love too)
God, I will never be over the tailor shop scene where Zhan Junbai just fucking goes feral the moment he sees Yu Tangchun clutching at his stomach from the stab wound and just...eviscerates those tailors. Like boom, one neck snapped, the other neck slashed...all for one man
🚔 If it wasn’t a cop show, what jobs would everyone have?
I did answer this on another ask, so I'm just gonna copy and paste my answer from there to here: Jiang Yuelou I think would still probably be a cop, Chen Yuzhi would obviously still be a doctor, Chu Ran I could see being like an elementary school teacher, same for Yu Tangchun, except maybe he'd be like a music teacher. Zhan Junbai would still probably work for the government, Sun Yongren I could see being like a chef of some sort (considering how much of a foodie he is), Song Rong I could see being like a first responder of some sort, Zhong Yiren would be a fashion designer, and Bai Jinbo would still be police commissioner because somebody needs to keep an eye on Jiang Yuelou
👌 Top five moments
Jin, there are TOO MANY MOMENTS! I'm gonna do a mix of general and ship
When Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi first meet and Jiang Yuelou's grabs Chen Yuzhi's face and studies him? Like he is intrigued and just...hnngh
When Chen Yuzhi treats Jiang Yuelou's gunshot wound, even after Jiang Yuelou points a fucking gun at him? And the way that Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi look at each other afterwards...so much tension
When Chu Ran grabs Jiang Yuelou and calls off their marriage, causing Song Rong to nearly get fucking whiplash at how fast his neck snapped around at the word "marriage" and Jiang Yuelou to just...look so damn confused. It was so funny
Jiang Yuelou taking care of Chen Yuzhi in ep. 8. I don't even need to explain
Any scene with Zhan Junbai and Chu Min together. Sunshine boy and his rich dad. Love them
💀 Do you have any secret ships? (Including friendships)
I mean...we all know my normal ships: Yuezhi, Junchun. But I also like SunSong (Sun Yongren/Song Rong), ZhongChu (Zhong Yiren/Chu Ran), ChuLiu (Chu Min/Liu Li). A secret friendship I think would be Jiang Yuelou & Wang Meng. I genuinely fucking think that they might have gotten along if Wang Meng hadn't gotten shot and died. It would take them a while to warm up to each other, but they'd play nice for Chen Yuzhi. And they might always just remain frenemies, but god help the fucker who decided to mess with Chen Yuzhi because you'll have one of Jinma Hall's best men and Jing City's most feral fucking cop descend on your ass and send you straight to the King of Hell. Like...RIP my dude. I also love my Chaotic Police Siblings (Jiang Yuelou & Jin Dacheng). I love the friendship that came out of that hot mess

phew just finished reading recklessness (1) & (2) of the novel and need to write some late-night thoughts down ... the buildup is excellent, i love how just within these 2 chapters so much was explored of the characters and their roles within society e.g. you have mianmian being criticised for being a female (echoing the cultivation world's condemnation of anyone with the wen surname, all that stuff about discrimination based on characteristics that a person cannot control, something which i noticed is a central theme in mdzs), jiang cheng trying to do PR damage control and the slow build up of those years of old issues that had always existed between him and wwx resurfacing again now, even exploring jin guangyao and his role in lanlingjin through the way he handles the conference, and then lwj speaking up despite not usually saying anything during conferences, even the little detail about jiang cheng pulling all-nighters everyday to keep his sect running and just on the day when he decides to retire early he gets called up for more political bullshit. also just wwx gathering all the wens and bringing them to burial mounds to start a proper life like he really just bulldozed his way through the whole situation and, in his own words, made it the precedent.
just, the amount of detail in these chapters was just really fun to read. i could understand both jiang cheng and wwx's side of the matter very clearly so much so that i don't even have a side to pick. and i think after reading the novel i kind of better understand what happened in the manhua (it was sort of disjointed at first but the novel really helps to string it all together chronologically)
now i'm at the part where jiang cheng and wwx have their duel and falling out. at first i couldn't tell if it was meant to be a sibling squabble unserious sort of duel or an actual fight duel but the outcome seems to hint at the latter. and so wwx has defected from the jiang sect - he's on his own. from here on it's only going to get messier. after reading the manhua and watching the donghua, going through this part in the novel just feels like that 'ah shit here we go again' meme like i know what's going to happen I'm just gonna be reliving it again in a diff format
edit: some screenshots since i’m finally on my laptop
Tumblr media
man’s Tired just let him rest!!! ffs
Tumblr media
lwj went into fkin zen mode
Tumblr media
ah i love this so much
Tumblr media
this detail was so funny cos in the exr translation i thought jiang cheng actually crushed the edge of his table from how hard he was gripping it lol i was like ,,, bro u good? i know you’re a strong cultivator but just what on earth did u train with to get your grip strength to a level where you’d be capable of crushing a table edge to pieces? like, can nmj even do that?
Tumblr media
again the exr translation was funnier i think it went something like ‘the child was lovable but unfortunately jiang cheng had no love in him’ also this is such a perfect way to show jiang cheng’s personality ... now i really wanna see his reaction to baby jin ling. the two most important men in wwx’s life - jc and lwj - do not know how to react to children upon meeting them for the first time
Tumblr media
gdi i KNEW jiang cheng wouldn’t be so calm and genial with wwx after having come all the way to burial mounds for this the lad was probably fuming all the way up while speaking in this fake-polite voice. also jiang cheng just can’t do pretences and faking nice like jgy, he’s more of a straight-talking person and seeing him like that’s just eerily unnatural
Tumblr media
this part sounds a lot more scarier here than in exr ... it’s the tone of voice, that little detail of him sounding indifferent that makes me realize it’s at this point that jiang cheng realizes he should have given up all hope of trying to reason with wwx. i thought the fight was like ‘oh it’s just another twin prides of yunmeng squabbling with a friendly duel’ but then the next paragraph comes and it’s actually Serious? like this is their first legit public falling out? like jiang cheng actually issues a public statement declaring wwx public enemy number one?
Tumblr media
there’s definitely something metaphorical (or meta) about the fact that wwx and jiang cheng have to resort to a good old fight to sort things out, and also the fact that neither of them win. like they’re locked in a stalemate. and somehow it feels like they weren’t just fighting about the decision for wwx to leave the jiang clan but also about a lot of other repressed old childhood grievances. there’s a sense that they’re not kids anymore, that what they’re fighting about aren’t simple childish things but real adult feelings and adult implications that can’t be forgotten or pushed under the carpet anymore.
but then in the next chapter wwx goes and says this:
Tumblr media
i just got clowned by a fictional character like WHAT IS HAPPENING PEOPLE DID THEY FALL OUT OR DIDN’T THEY
you’d think this is their lowest point but nooo!! it gets worse!

Prompt: JZX is more politically aware, but mostly lonely. When he learns that JGY is his younger brother he's determined to be a good dage. His only examples however, are LXC, who hes not sure is human, WWX who- just- NO, and NMJ, who despite being his sworn brother seems to HATE JGY? So hes on his own. It can't be that hard right? Getting his mom to stop beating JGY is a good start, maybe helping catch up in training? (JGY is about to get so much awkward affection, it mightsave everything.)

When Jin Zixuan heard for the first time that his father was acknowledging one of his (many) bastards, bringing him home to be recognized as the Jin-er-gongzi, his first reaction was not, as his mother expected, overwhelming rage and disappointment, the way it was for her.
In fact, it was mostly delight – delight, and fear.
He’d known from a young age that he was never going to get any siblings from his mother, and while he’d known in a vague sort of way that his father as a notorious philanderer with bastards aplenty, it hadn’t ever been relevant to his life on account of the fact that none of them were ever acknowledged. He’d assumed that it would always be that way, and for the first twenty years of his life, it was.
Until now.
He was going to have a brother – no, worse. He was going to bea brother, a big brother; that was a position that came with responsibilities. He had to be a good role model, a teacher of all things good and righteous and proper, but also needed to care for them and take care of them – it was, to be perfectly honest, a brand new experience. Through some trick of fate, Jin Zixuan was among the youngest of his cousins and cohorts of his peers; there was something of an age gap between him and the next set of shidi in his sect, and anyway he’d never been expected to care for his shidi in a parental sort of manner – the Jin sect was too concerned with class to allow such closeness without a blood tie to excuse it.
So he was starting, essentially, from scratch.
It might’ve been smoother and more straightforward if he’d met his brother immediately, fresh from the battlefield where all such divisions were blurred and vague; they could have been shield-brothers, that way, and Jin Zixuan might not know much about brothers, but he had fought in a war and knew that much. But his father had whisked Jin Guangyao (and why was it ‘Guangyao’ instead of ‘Ziyao’?) away immediately, insisting that he needed his help with setting up the Phoenix Mountain hunt, so they hadn’t had a chance to meet at that stage. Jin Zixuan realized, of course, that organizing the Phoenix Mountain hunt was a big deal and, probably, a way for his father to show that he trusted his newest son, so he stepped back and kept to himself…well, mostly.
There was that incident with Jiang Yanli.
Either way, though, he didn’t have a chance to get to know Jin Guangyao until they were both back at Jinlin Tower, where the strict rules of etiquette and formality reigned supreme, and when they did Jin Guangyao was perfectly polite and gracious and incredibly fake. It was then that Jin Zixuan realized that he really, truly had no idea how to connect with another person if they weren’t making just about all the effort, and furthermore started to worry that he was being a bad big brother.
Naturally, this called for research.
“Yes, dear,” A-Li said, hiccupping with laughter. She’d agreed to walk in the gardens with him again, and since they were engaged now they could even be left alone – in fact, they were left alone a bit more often than they probably ought to be, which was likely his mother’s hint that children would be better obtained sooner rather than later and little things like marriage dates oughtn’t get in the way of that. “That makes perfect sense. Lots of research. Studious, serious research. What else could you possibly do?”
“You’re laughing at me,” Jin Zixuan said suspiciously. “Definitely at and not with. Have I done something wrong?”
“Not at all! I think it’s quite charming that you think this is the most straightforward way to bond with someone, instead of, say, just going and talking to the person directly – really charming. Delightful. Really! Don’t mind me one bit.” She wiped her eyes. “Now, tell me, who are you planning on talking with first for your ‘research’? Chifeng-zun?”
“No, I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Jin Zixuan said. “I mean, I also thought about him first, since his younger brother is a half-brother as well, but they’ve known each other for ages and ages, haven’t they? Chifeng-zun all but raised his younger brother – he’s more of a parent than a brother! And, well, you know, A-Yao and him…”
“They don’t really get along,” Jiang Yanli agreed. “You’re right, he’s probably not the best person to ask. Who else, then? Zewu-jun?”
“I don’t think I could live up to his example even if he sat down and advised me on how to do it,” Jin Zixuan said sincerely. “I mean, he’s just – you know? He’s perfect.”
“Too perfect,” Jiang Yanli agreed, and that was why he loved her quite so desperately. “Almost like a painting – nice to admire from afar, but a little lifeless up close…anyway, you wouldn’t want Jin-er-gongzi to end up like Hanguang-jun, would you?”
Jin Zixuan most certainly did not want an overly rule-abiding, stiff-faced disciplinarian as a younger brother. No thanks!
“So he’s out,” Jiang Yanli mused. “Who else is left?”
Jin Zixuan coughed. “Meaning no offense,” he said. “But, uh…I don’t think it’d be appropriate…”
“Oh, no, definitely don’t use A-Xian as a role model!” Jiang Yanli appeared mildly alarmed at the thought. “He and A-Cheng love each other, but things were always a little complicated – no, definitely don’t do that.”
Jin Zixuan exhaled in relief: crisis averted.
“Is there anyone else you might ask? I don’t think I know any others of your peers that are older siblings.”
“Not in the Great Sects, no. But anyway, I was thinking…well, I don’t know if it’s a good idea or not –” He wasn’t exactly a strategic genius. “But I was thinking of approaching it from the other direction.”
“Oh?”
“A good older brother is judged primarily by the younger brother, right? If you’re a good older brother on paper but your younger brother hates you, there’s no point. So I was going to ask the younger brothers and see what it was about their older brothers that they liked.”
“An interesting strategy,” Jiang Yanli said.
Jin Zixuan frowned. ‘Interesting’ might be the word most often used when he proposed plans, but it usually didn’t actually mean that the other side agreed with the plan. Certainly Chifeng-zun had said several times that several of his proposed battle tactics were ‘interesting’ and he’d never even once used a single one of them. “What’s wrong with the idea?”
“Oh, nothing, nothing…it’s only…”
“Only what?”
“Think about who you’d be asking,” Jiang Yanli said. “What would Nie-gongzi be likely to say?”
“…probably that a good older brother is one that indulges all his whims, never makes him do anything, and buys him stuff.” Jin Zixuan grimaced. “A-Yao is far too talented for such treatment; he’d think I was being condescending and treating him like a child.”
“Mm, likely yes, I’m afraid. And A-Cheng would probably clam up immediately, refuse to answer, and then, if you did manage to get it out of him, say that a good older brother would be one that was there all the time doing his job.”
“But A-Yao already does his job! If anything, he’s overlyconscientious about it!”
“Exactly.”
“And the only other one to ask is Lan Wangji,” Jin Zixuan realized. “And he won’t say anything at all, because he’s a lump of rock that doesn’t speak!”
Jiang Yanli snorted. It sounded involuntary, distinctly resembled the sound of a pig, and she looked momentarily shocked that the sound had come from her, so he pretended not to notice.
“I’m doomed,” he moaned. “I don’t know how I’m going to do this…A-Li, you must have some other suggestion!”
“Well, I might have one,” she said, and he looked eagerly at her. “It involves you actually having a conversation with A-Yao, though.”
“Oh, well, that’s sure to fail,” Jin Zixuan said, and now she was laughing again. “I mean it!”
“We’ll think of something, I’m sure,” she said, giggling. “Don’t worry. With both of us on the task, I’m sure we’ll get things in proper shape!”

Jiang Cheng drabble
Tumblr media
Requested by anonymous: Hi I love your writing, can I request Jiang Cheng x reader where the reader is a Xichen and Wangji's little sister. Thanks I love u
Warnings: Jiang Cheng might be a bit OC-ish, weird ending
Word Count: 793 words
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng wasn't often star struck. That changed when he entered Cloud Recesses and saw you. You were walking next to another Lan discipline, talking about something before spotting the new group. You bid goodbye to the other discipline and strutted towards him and his group, a bright smile on your face that made Jiang Cheng blush.
When you greeted them, he finally snapped out of his trance and curtly nodded at you. You didn't seem to mind as you continued talking to him before leading them to their rooms.
"I hope they're to your liking." You smiled at him nd he felt the walls around him break. You walked away with Yanli to show her her own room and Jiang Cheng couldn't help but stare, earning a few snickers from the people around him.
He later learned that you were in fact the younger sibling of the twin jades and you were know as the jade princess (cliché, but I didn't know anything else), mostly because you were treated like a princess by both brothers and the rest of the Lan clan.
That being said, you were still very humble (probably also because it was a rule) and extremely nice. So nice even, that Jiang Cheng couldn't help but blush every time you talked to him. And you talked to him a lot, always smiling brightly as you did. How you were related to the jades twins was a mystery.
Then the lantern making happened, you had painted a beautiful lotus and when he heard you whisper his name, he was once again stunned. Then even more when you were the one to punch Zixuan when he made yet another comment about Yanli to rile Wuxian up once again after he had already been punched by Wuxian once, continuing to insult Zixuan back as Wangji carried you over his shoulder.
The fact that you had spoken his name during the lantern festival hadn't left his mind and kept him awake all night, which soon leaded him out of his room. He didn't know why, but his feet led him forward and through some of the halls before he finally stopped on a large field.
In the middle of the field you were. You were playing a zither, the sound carrying through the air as the moon shone on you. You were surrounded by flowers and he noticed small lights fluttering around you. You seemed to sense that he was there and turned your head around, smiling as you spotted him.
"C'mon!" You waved at him to come closer and he did, sitting next to you.
"Can't sleep?" You asked and he nodded, making you nod. You slowly started to pull the strings once more, letting the music take over once again but not loud enough to bother.
"So, what you wish for?" You suddenly asked, looking at him as you continued to play.
"Not much, mostly for my sister to be happy... You?" He asked and you stopped playing, pulling your knees up to your chest.
"Well..." You paused, your face heating up in embarrassment. Jiang Cheng seemed to sense it and rather then stop asking, he decided to make it worse.
"I heard you say my name, now that I think about it." He continued and your eyes widen slightly as your fingers slipped from the strings, creating a loud clank. He smirked at your reaction, suddenly feeling a bit more confident then he usually would be around you.
"Well, I wished to be your... friend?" You asked and he raised an eyebrow at the comment, making you look away again.
"Or maybe more..." You whispered to yourself, not expecting him to actually hear you. He did and thus, he decided to take action. He leaned forward and planted his lips on your cheek. Your face heated up more and you quickly covered your face in embarrassment. Jiang Cheng smiled and pulled your hands away from your face, looking at you with a gentle smile.
"You don't have to hide." He said and you pouted, whining as you hid your face in his chest. He just embraced you before kissing your head softly before softly hugging you. You pouted once again before slowly hugging him back, placing your head on his shoulder. You stayed like that for a minute or so before you pulled back. You gave him a smile before looking behind you when you heard a twig snap.
And there stood your eldest brother, Lan Xichen, just smiling at you.
"You should probably go back and get some sleep." He said and you looked away awkwardly as you took your zither and got up.
"Don't tell uncle." You said to Xichen as you pulled Jiang Cheng behind you, not realizing the big smirk that Xichen wore as he watched you walk off with your future husband.

Lashing out
What better way to celebrate my 50th Mingcheng fic than with ace!JC and some misunderstandings regarding what non-sexual touches are okay in a relationship. Because JC's and NMJ's opinion on that couldn't be more different.
Jiang Cheng thought that telling Nie Mingjue that he is asexual and will never sleep with him would be the hard part and he wasn’t completely wrong about that.
It was hard, and he hated doing it, because the fear that Nie Mingjue would walk away from him, would call an end to this, was very real and something Jiang Cheng almost dreaded more than having to sleep with Nie Mingjue.
But Jiang Cheng did it, he told Nie Mingjue about it, and Nie Mingjue took it better than Jiang Cheng could have ever imagined. Nie Mingjue promised him that it wouldn’t be a problem, that this wasn’t the only reason he was with Jiang Cheng after all, and that they would make it work.
And Jiang Cheng believes him.
But what Jiang Cheng forgot about is that now he has to be careful. Careful about what he says, what he does, how he touches Nie Mingjue because otherwise Nie Mingjue will get a wrong impression and think that Jiang Cheng does actually want more.
Which he doesn’t. It’s just—it would be nice to cuddle up to Nie Mingjue, is all.
Jiang Cheng has never thought of himself as touch-starved; at least not until Nie Huaisang has mentioned it and then suddenly Jiang Cheng could think of nothing else.
And it is fine with his friends; there are no expectations there so he can cuddle up to his siblings or Nie Huaisang as much as he wants to but with his partners, it’s different.
Jiang Cheng already made that mistake once and he’s not about to make it again.
So he keeps to himself; he makes sure to never touch Nie Mingjue more than is necessary, and he tries to pretend that it doesn’t matter to him.
It even almost works.
~*~*~
When Jiang Cheng lets himself into Nie Mingjue’s apartment, he finds him sprawled out on the couch, hand dangling off the side and clearly fast asleep.
Jiang Cheng can’t help the fond smile that steals over his face at seeing Nie Mingjue this relaxed and adorable and he quickly whips out his phone to take at least one photo. He’s due for a new background pic anyway.
Once that is done, Jiang Cheng quietly steps closer and crouches down next to the couch. It’s not quite what he wants to do; his first instinct was to simply climb on top of Nie Mingjue and sprawl out on top of him, but Jiang Cheng is very aware that he shouldn’t do that.
It could make Nie Mingjue expect certain things when he wakes up to Jiang Cheng laid out on top of him and Jiang Cheng is not about to do that to either of them. So crouching down is the next best thing and Jiang Cheng takes his time to watch a peacefully sleeping Nie Mingjue for long moments.
It takes him almost ten minutes to remember that Nie Mingjue will be grumpy as hell when he can’t sleep that evening and since Jiang Cheng doesn’t know just how long Nie Mingjue has already been asleep for, he decides to wake him up.
Jiang Cheng ghosts a finger over the side of Nie Mingjue’s face and he chuckles when Nie Mingjue frowns slightly in his sleep.
“My soul,” Jiang Cheng whispers and tucks a strand of his hair behind his ear. “You have to wake up.”
Nie Mingjue makes an unintelligent noise and tries to move out of Jiang Cheng’s reach, which of course doesn’t work. Instead Jiang Cheng moves his finger over Nie Mingjue’s nose, clearly tickling him into a more coherent state.
“What?” Nie Mingjue grumbles and blinks sluggishly up at Jiang Cheng.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Jiang Cheng teasingly says and he realizes the dangerous twinkling in Nie Mingjue’s eyes too late.
Jiang Cheng isn’t entirely sure just how Nie Mingjue does it, but one moment he’s still sleepily blinking and the next he has turned around on the couch and pulled Jiang Cheng on top of him.
“Uff,” Jiang Cheng says when he comes to rest on Nie Mingjue’s chest and he tenses when Nie Mingjue’s arms come up around him, pressing him closer to his body.
“Good morning,” Nie Mingjue mutters, laughter still in his voice and Jiang Cheng makes a conscious effort to relax himself. “Why did you wake me, I was having a nice dream.”
“Nicer than this?” Jiang Cheng gives back and then mentally chides himself because their situation could be suggestive and he doesn’t want to raise any expectations.
“Mh, no,” Nie Mingjue hums. “Good point, my heart,” Nie Mingjue gives back and then seems content to simply drift off again.
“You shouldn’t sleep in the middle of the day,” Jiang Cheng lowly says when Nie Mingjue’s breathing gets deeper by the second and Nie Mingjue startles.
“But it’s such a good time to sleep,” he grumbles and Jiang Cheng huffs.
“I’ll remind you of that in the evening then, when you’re bitching at me that you can’t sleep,” he tells him and Nie Mingjue heaves out a sigh.
“Ugh, why do you always have to be right?” he wants to know but he turns them around again, so they are laying on their sides.
Jiang Cheng is sure he would slide right off the couch, if Nie Mingjue wouldn’t keep such a tight grip on him.
“You love me for it, don’t even pretend,” Jiang Cheng gives back, and even though he knows Nie Mingjue does, even though Nie Mingjue tells him regularly, there’s still that split second of fear where he thinks this will be the time that Nie Mingjue doesn’t say it back.
“You’re right with that as well,” Nie Mingjue gives back immediately, peppering Jiang Cheng’s face with kisses. “But this is comfortable. We can stay like this for a while, right?” he then tries, his voice hopeful, but Jiang Cheng shakes his head as best as he can in this position.
He’s still pressed up to Nie Mingjue’s front, Nie Mingjue’s hand low on his back and Jiang Cheng fears where this will go if he lets this go on. And besides. Nie Mingjue is liable to drift off again the moment they stop talking.
“No,” Jiang Cheng decisively says and pushes away from Nie Mingjue, who fights him on this a moment longer, but in the end he lets go.
“Rude,” Nie Mingjue grumbles as he sits up on the couch and stares up at Jiang Cheng, his displeasure clear on his face. “Why do you have to be so rude. I was comfortable.”
“Yeah, well, I’m hungry,” Jiang Cheng gives back and averts his eyes.
Nie Mingjue might have been comfortable in that moment, but if Jiang Cheng indulges him with that too long, he’ll think Jiang Cheng is open for more, which he very much is not, and Jiang Cheng is not ready for a fight with Nie Mingjue.
All he ever did with his last partner was fight over things like that, always lashing out at the other, and he doesn’t want to do the same with Nie Mingjue.
“Alright, alright,” Nie Mingjue mutters and gets up from the couch, though he does take a moment to step close and steal a kiss from Jiang Cheng.
“Hi, my heart,” Nie Mingjue breathes out and Jiang Cheng can’t help the sappy smile on his face.
“Hi,” he gives back just as lowly and he thinks that this might be okay.
They can do this.
~*~*~
Nie Mingjue announces his arrival with a booming “I’m home!” before he comes into the living-room.
Jiang Cheng looks up from the couch, pausing the movie he was watching and he startles badly when Nie Mingjue simply flops himself down on the couch, resting his head in Jiang Cheng’s lap.
Jiang Cheng awkwardly hovers his hands over Nie Mingjue’s head for a few moments, before he rests one on the top of it and one on his shoulder and his heart beats just a little bit faster when Nie Mingjue slightly turns to smile up at him.
“Hey there,” he says and Jiang Cheng returns the smile.
“Comfortable, are you?” he wants to know and goes warm all over when Nie Mingjue laughs happily.
“So very much,” he replies and then turns around completely so he can hide his face in Jiang Cheng’s stomach.
It’s innocent enough, for now, but Jiang Cheng fears where this might lead, so he pushes Nie Mingjue away, even though he does want nothing more than to hug him tight to himself and never let him go again.
“Quit this,” Jiang Cheng grumbles and catches the slight frown on Nie Mingjue’s face before he makes an effort to smooth it back out.
“Are you okay?” Nie Mingjue asks and Jiang Cheng awkwardly shrugs.
“Sure. How was your day?” he tries to distract Nie Mingjue, who clearly seems to know what he’s up to, but who indulges him anyway.
“Stupid. What are we watching?” Nie Mingjue asks, sounding a little bit upset but he sits down next to Jiang Cheng, keeping a little bit of distance between them.
It does something to Jiang Cheng’s heart that hurts, but he reminds himself that he was the one to push Nie Mingjue away just now, so he should be grateful that he accepts his boundaries. Still, Jiang Cheng can’t help but to scoot a little bit closer, just enough to brush their shoulders together.
Nie Mingjue tenses briefly but then he leans more heavily against Jiang Cheng and Jiang Cheng nods to himself.
This is fine and all he really needs.
No matter that he wants to climb into Nie Mingjue’s lap, or wants to pull him back into his, wants to cuddle throughout the whole movie.
This will have to do. He can’t ask for more, especially not when he can’t even give Nie Mingjue more than this.
~*~*~
Jiang Cheng is in the kitchen, making dinner for them, when Nie Mingjue comes up behind him. He slings his arms around Jiang Cheng’s middle and presses a kiss to his temple before he rests his chin on his shoulder.
It’s nice, it’s comfortable and Jiang Cheng feels like his heart is going to flow over with love, but then Nie Mingjue moves slightly, which presses him much more firmly against Jiang Cheng’s back and Jiang Cheng tenses.
And Nie Mingjue steps away.
“Mingjue,” Jiang Cheng starts, unsure what just happened, but then Nie Mingjue is reaching past him, turning off the stove and moving pots away and Jiang Cheng’s heart sinks.
“I think we have to talk, Wanyin,” Nie Mingjue says and just like that Jiang Cheng sees it all shattered around him.
He thought they were good; he thought he managed to not make Nie Mingjue expect anything, not with his touches or otherwise, but of course he had fucked up somewhere.
Jiang Cheng reminds himself that they agreed upon this when he told Nie Mingjue that he’s asexual, that Nie Mingjue could always tell him when not having sex with Jiang Cheng would be too much, but he didn’t expect it to happen so late after their talk.
“Okay,” Jiang Cheng gives back, hating himself for how his voice shakes, but he follows Nie Mingjue when he walks into the living-room.
Maybe he did raise some expectations, Jiang Cheng thinks, remembering all the touches he allowed between them. Maybe he needs to be more careful in the future.
“What do you want to talk about?” Jiang Cheng asks unsurely, watching how Nie Mingjue paces in the living-room, and he just wants to get this over with.
“I’m a tactile person,” Nie Mingjue finally says when he comes to a stop. “You know that.”
“I do,” Jiang Cheng gives back, because it’s hard to miss how often Nie Mingjue reaches out for him, or how he behaves with Nie Huaisang.
“Okay,” Nie Mingjue says and nods to himself before he straightens up and looks Jiang Cheng in the eye. “If you can’t allow a simple touch, I can’t do this anymore,” he then says and Jiang Cheng’s heart stops in his chest.
“You said you are okay with it,” he breathes out, even though he knows it’s unfair, even though they agreed on something different, but he can’t help himself.
Nie Mingjue said he’s okay with the fact that Jiang Cheng is ace.
“I am fine with not having sex with you,” Nie Mingjue says. “That’s not a problem. But the fact that I can’t even touch you, can’t hug you close or cuddle you? That’s a problem. And if that is part of you being ace, then I’m sorry that it’s a problem to me, but I can’t be in a relationship where I have to think twice about reaching out for my partner.”
“What?” Jiang Cheng asks because it doesn’t make sense what Nie Mingjue just said. “It has nothing to do with me being ace.”
“Then what?” Nie Mingjue wants to know and Jiang Cheng is surprised to see how desperate he is. “Then why can’t you allow me to touch you? Why am I not allowed to cuddle you, or hug you, or fall asleep with you in my arms?”
Jiang Cheng has to blink back some tears, because he wants those same things, but he can’t allow this; he can’t raise expectations he can’t meet and he doesn’t understand sexual attraction enough to know when he crosses a line.
“I don’t want to get your hopes up,” is what he finally gets out, crossing his arms in front of his chest to hide how much his hands shake.
He yearns for Nie Mingjue’s arms, would do almost anything to have him hug Jiang Cheng as close as he just did in the kitchen, but he dreads what comes after.
“What hopes?” Nie Mingjue asks him and he seems honestly confused.
“I’m not going to sleep with you,” Jiang Cheng says, again, but it does nothing to clear the confusion from Nie Mingjue’s face.
“Yes, I know, we’ve been over that.”
“No, you don’t—listen, I—I don’t know when I cross a line, okay?” Jiang Cheng gets out, much louder than he wanted to, but Nie Mingjue doesn’t seem to understand and he’s going to walk away from Jiang Cheng, he just knows it and his heart is already cracking in his chest. “I don’t know, and I don’t want there to be misunderstandings or to give you false hope or anything like that. I learned my lesson,” Jiang Cheng bitterly finishes and sees how Nie Mingjue goes still.
“You learned your lesson,” he repeats and Jiang Cheng nods. “Did your—previous partner do something?”
“He didn’t—I just—we were cuddling and he clearly thought it would lead to more. I try not to do that anymore,” Jiang Cheng explains, not quite able to meet Nie Mingjue’s eyes. “I don’t want to disappoint you or have a fight about this.”
The irony of his words is not lost on Jiang Cheng, because they are having a fight about this anyway, but what he wasn’t prepared for is for Nie Mingjue to walk up to him and pull him into his arms.
Jiang Cheng wasn’t quick enough to untangle his arms, so now they are trapped between them, and his face is uncomfortable smashed into Nie Mingjue’s shoulder, but it’s still the best place to be in.
“You said no sex, ever,” Nie Mingjue whispers into his hair. “So until you tell me that you changed your mind or that you want to try something, it’s a no. No matter what you do. It will always be a no, and I know that. I respect that. Us cuddling or you sleeping on me, or my head in your lap is not going to change that. It will always be a no until you explicitly tell me otherwise.”
Jiang Cheng has to blink fast to keep the sudden tears at bay, but he can’t quite hide the fact that he’s shaking all over.
“It’s just—my heart, I’m tactile, and that is something I can’t do without. If you’re touch-averse then—” Nie Mingjue trails off but Jiang Cheng can tell what he wants to say anyway, and it’s enough to make him untangle his arms enough to sling them around Nie Mingjue’s middle.
“I’m not, I’m not,” he rushes to reassure Nie Mingjue. “Huaisang would say I’m quite the opposite, really,” he says with a weak laugh. “I want you to hug me and cuddle me and sleep with your head in my lap, I do,” he promises. “I just always thought I had to make sure that I don’t lead you on by allowing that.”
“You’re not leading me on,” Nie Mingjue says and pushes Jiang Cheng away from him. “You said no, it doesn’t get much clearer than that. And I would never assume anything until you verbally tell me, okay? So you can’t lead me on, because the only thing I’m really expecting when I cuddle you is that I get to cuddle you, if that makes sense,” Nie Mingjue awkwardly says and Jiang Cheng immediately nods.
“It does, it does make sense,” he says, his voice trembling with his tears and he hides back in Nie Mingjue’s arms. “And I want that, too.”
“Thank the gods,” Nie Mingjue breathes out and Jiang Cheng realizes with a start, that Nie Mingjue doesn’t want to walk away from this any more than Jiang Cheng wants that.
“I love you. And I want to be tactile with you, too, without having to second guess everything,” Jiang Cheng admits and Nie Mingjue almost crushes him, he’s hugging him so hard.
“You can, my heart, you can. I love you,” Nie Mingjue gives back and Jiang Cheng dares to believe him.
It’s hard to do anything else with how relieved and sincere Nie Mingjue sounds.
~*~*~
When Jiang Cheng comes across a sleeping Nie Mingjue on the couch again, he doesn’t hesitate. He simply climbs on the couch as well and lays down all over Nie Mingjue’s back, just like he wanted to do that very first time.
“You’re heavy,” Nie Mingjue grumbles into the couch, clearly unpleasantly woken up, but Jiang Cheng can’t find it in himself to care about that.
He gets to lay on Nie Mingjue without having to worry about a single thing, so Nie Mingjue can be grumpy all the wants.
“And you’re rude,” Jiang Cheng gives back, just a moment before Nie Mingjue moves under him.
Also much like the first time Jiang Cheng doesn’t quite understand how Nie Mingjue manages it, but when they come to a rest again, it’s Jiang Cheng who is being pressed into the couch by Nie Mingjue’s weight.
“You’re heavy,” Jiang Cheng gives back, mostly because he feels it’s only fair.
“Shut up,” Nie Mingjue mutters, hiding his face in Jiang Cheng’s neck, clearly content to fall asleep again right there.
“You shouldn’t sleep here, my soul,” Jiang Cheng mumbles as he cards his fingers through Nie Mingjue’s hair, lightly scratching at his scalp as he does it.
“Then you shouldn’t be this comfortable or do that,” is the slurred answer he gets and Jiang Cheng huffs out a laugh.
“Fine, you get half an hour,” he decides and goes boneless under Nie Mingjue.
He is quite heavy, but Jiang Cheng loves that weight on him, the reassurance and the steady presence and he wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
In hindsight it seems so incredibly stupid that he deprived both of them of this for so long, but Jiang Cheng decides that he’d rather enjoy the moment right now than dwell on the past.
And so he slings his free arm around Nie Mingjue’s middle, hugging him tighter, while the other keeps up with his ministrations.
It’s not long before he drifts off as well, Nie Mingjue already slightly snoring away on top off him, and it’s much more than half an hour before Nie Mingjue wakes him by peppering kisses all over his face.
It’s a very good way to wake up, Jiang Cheng decides.
