No one is more annoying than you tagging your hate. Seeing how you guys act, only Shuggy fans will get my support and other Shanks ships get nothing but my hate. Shuggy fans are truly the only tolerable Shanks shippers. The rest of you need to get your act together or find something else to do because you don’t even understand the story or the characters.

I literally wrote this whole thing about the problems with Shuggy but i got distracted and accidentally closed the app so im just gonna say if you really think that I'm not understanding the point or the story or the characters then you need to reread/rewatch one piece because everything Oda has put out has not been shy or subtle in showing that Buggy is toxic. Buggy stomped and stabbed Luffy's treasure, tried killing him multiple times, then in impel down Luffy forgave and struck a deal with him and Buggy tried to fuck him over again despite acknowledging himself through inner dialogue that Luffy is incredibly trusting and only a monster would betray him, and then shamelessly trying to betray him.

The whole point of his character in Impel down/Marineford is that Buggy is horrible and his karma is that he's forced to help in order to save his own ass since at every corner he's ready to betray, just like Shanks and the Roger Pirates. Shanks tried to be brotherly friends, Buggy felt inferior so he constantly picked fights, The Roger pirates raise Buggy with love, Buggy tries to steal a treasure map and devil fruit so that he can sell the fruit off and go find the treasure for himself and blames Shanks despite the reason Shanks approaches him is to check on Buggy, but Buggy still blamed Shanks despite it being his choice to be an idiot and stuff the fruit in his mouth to hide it while letting go of the map. When the Roger crew disbanded and Roger died Buggy made it about him. He said he was willing to give up "everything" for Shanks or whatever and then Shanks betrayed him and thats the whole reason why Shuggy lovers coddle Buggy and demonize Shanks but Shanks also sacrificed everything basically. He stayed behind for Buggy when Buggy was sick and missed the last of the adventures with his father figure and being able to go to the last island. Shanks sacrifices everything. Buggy was mean to Shanks even before the "betrayal" which was just Shanks saying he didn't want to go for the One Piece.

Then he blames everything on Shanks and leaves Shanks at his most vulnerable time since as the story goes on we're learning more and more that clearly something traumatizing and burdening happened to Shanks that made him give up the One Piece at that time. It was his dream too. He was always so bright and happy and hopeful and he always tried his best yet Buggy was the one who actually betrayed Shanks, running away like a coward because of his inferiority complex when Shanks was doing everything in his power to lift Buggy up. But Buggy doesn't want to be lifted up. No matter how much Shanks tried Buggy always would rather drag Shanks down with him. Now Shanks is alone, he had to go through everything alone and clearly is not okay mentally because of it from his random bouts of melacholy and burden. He longs for some sort of companion but has nothing because Buggy left and he didn't give chase, sacrificing his want for a friend in order to let Buggy leave since Shanks felt that Buggy really must hate him and would be happier leaving, he sacrificed his dominant arm to save Luffy, severely weakening himself, gave what he had left of Roger to Luffy in order to cheer the boy up, another sacrifice. Then you'd think "oh he still has his daughter" and you'd be right, he took care of her when he found her in the chest, sacrificing his youth to take care of a baby on the ship, but he had to leave her. He made himself look like the bad guy to leave her, losing the last bit of compassion in his life.

He took it hard too, Oda drew in a little sbs thing im pretty sure of Shanks despairing over it. Then, canonically, Luffy is Shanks's last hope, for everything. Shanks doesn't have a companion, no little daughter to cheer him up, no lover because he likely doesn't want to bring them into what he has on his shoulders, nothing. Yet Buggy tried to kill that hope, multiple times. And only helped Shanks with Luffy when Shanks had to trick him into it (oh the horror what a devil that redhead/s). Shanks is just a broken Luffy, he was bright and sunny and had hopes but from likely learning about the prophecy or whatever that he was not going to be JoyBoy, so he gave up his dream for the world. All of this. All of these terrible things Shanks has gone through for everyone and everything and how Buggy tries to destroy every single one of it and somehow Shuggy shipper STILL manage to coddle Buggy and treat him like some cute tsundere that was wronged by Shanks and Shanks is the one that needs to chase after Buggy because evil Shanks betrayed him. That Shanks is the stupid longing ex husband that needs his wife back and that he messrd up when Buggy is a terrible friend at the VERY best and an abusive one at worst. That is why i "hate" Shuggy. I don't tag my hate post as Shuggy because i'm some sort of ragebaiter or slanderer trying to take away the happiness that is Shuggy its because I need Shuggy people to realize that the way they portray the ship is so utterly unfair to Shanks. The story goes on and on and you find out more and more about how Shanks sacrificed so much yet you're telling ME that i "don't even understand the story and characters" like the whole dynamic of Buggy isn't that he's horrible and its funny to see him get karma while somehow surviving and that Shanks's role is to be the sacrificial lamb to everything while having no one to take atleast some of the burden off.

Shuggy people and the way they portray it is toxic. Its not just they treat Shanks like the longing ex husband for the comedy, every artwork and fic and story i've seen its always Buggy needing to be apologized to and they're serious in that being the good and what should happen option and not, i don't know, the literal bad guy abusive person being the one to go "oh shit i need to change my ways and I have to apologize and help the friend I abandoned". No its always just adding more shit to Shanks's already about to break apart plate. It's maddening seeing it. It has so much potential to be an amazing ship that can explore the relationship between someone that used to be abusive learning that they arent the victim and atoning while finding love in eachother's comfort but instead its just victim blaming 101. Shanks could end up fucking dying horribly in One Piece while Buggy watches and goes "serves you right" and somehow Shuggy lovers would go "oh nonono its actually just him being a cute tsundere and look he feels bad deep inside so its all forgived and Shanks just dies ig idk anyway poor Buggy." There is so much wrong with the ship and how its treated that all that shit about shuggy haters trying to debunk it using some shitty half assed excuse like its "emotional incest" when theres so many other problems is if i looked at a history book and was like "Yeah the colonizers of the America were definitely wrong because their wigs were weird" like thats completely insignificant! Shuggy and the way its treated as if Buggy is the wronged one and always the loved and longed after while he has his poor hurt heart closed off from years of trauma like abandoning his friend and pillaging and killing innocent civilians while using their wealth to flaunt and pretend like he's big and strong.

Shuggy should not be a fix it via victim blaming Shanks and treating him like some dumb dog that loves Buggy so much it should be using the fact that Buggy has an inferiority complex and that he longs to be in the spotlight that he slowly learns that theres a reason why he's at the bottom. That is my issue. I'm not ignoring the story i am looking st the story with everything i possibly can because I even used to be kinda alrighy with Shuggy. It is literally now that we are learning more about Shanks and that im rereading One piece and remembering how horrible Buggy is that I'm realizing how horribly its treated. I mean look I started this off that I would try and summarize it but its so hard to summarize when theres so much wrong. I'm okay with shipping, i really am, but the ship is toxic, and the "fluffy" stuff is even toxic because its just making Shanks's misery worse. I need yall to realize that. This is not mindless hate.

BEN Headcanons because of appreciation

If he liked modern games, he would’ve liked any of the Soulsborne games or Geometry Dash.

He doesn’t need to sleep. However, occasional naps would do the trick.

He shares a room with Cody because it’s big enough to fit two beds.

Because his soul is tied to the Majora’s Mask cartridge, he can’t leave beyond its radius. He also can’t hang out in the mortal realm or the digital realm for too long, or else he’ll feel exhausted. So he goes back and forth between the two worlds to charge up.

He’s not meant to look like Link. From the way I drew him, he looks more like a kid cosplaying as Link, with noticeable differences like the different colors and hairstyle.

He’s very good at identifying bugs and glitches. Even before he became a ghost, he was always curious about how they work, clipping through maps and stuff.

He’s a brat. Someone who likes to prank people or throw them off guard. Someone who uses humor despite the current mood of the atmosphere. Ever since he was brought in by Slenderman, he no longer had to worry about being “BEN Drowned, the scary ghost of Majora’s Mask”. He can just be a kid again.

He dreams about his parents often, and wakes up in a cold sweat before crying. He missed his family. He tends to keep this side of himself privately, because he doesn’t want to be seen as vulnerable. Only Nina is allowed to comfort him.

He eats and drinks literally anything. Sand, grass, soap bars, sponges, dimes (not any other coin, he says they taste weird). He’s a ghost, he doesn’t need to eat at all. But it’s hilarious to see how others react.

He used to be a very popular kid when he was alive. Made lots of friends and was a beloved student. The school made a little memorial for him after his death.

Overall, just a silly little guy. 10/10.

The neighborhood map changed again! I'm not sure if the black thing (to borrow a Madeline L'Engle term) under Home has grown anymore. Some things I notice are Poppy's house's windows shut, Barnaby's pawprints, vines growing on the roof of Frank's house, and lots of sidewalk chalk doodles presumably from Julie (and maybe Wally drew Frank's face?).

I've noticed subtle changes to the neighborhood in previous updates too, but with more continuing to happen, as well as content we've gotten this Halloween update, I have a feeling these neighborhood changes are more... current than we might have previously thought.

This is a bit of a long shot, but I think everyone in Welcome Home is active, at least somewhat. Some characters are more aware than others. Maybe they're "waking up"; we've had two puppets, Wally through his doodles and Sally through the Halloween record, speak directly to us now.

In the secret bug audio, found on the transcript page for the Halloween record, the puppets mention that the spooky storytelling went well, as if it's a direct follow-up to the Halloween record. It's a discrepancy, sure, but perhaps not an unfounded one. Maybe the neighborhood's stuck in some sort of limbo between the present and the past, and only now, with the WHRP, Q/A, and us discovering it, is it literally reviving in front of our eyes.

correct me if i'm wrong, but uh - weren't all of those map details present from before the halloween update? i'm looking at these screenshots and my older captures of the map to compare, but i can't find any differences. i'm pretty sure the map's the same, aside from julie and frank's character cards changing to make it more explicit that they were intended as a couple in-universe (haha, knowing what we know, that's not worrying at all. /s)

anyways, to get to the Meat of this ask: i don't sally was speaking to us in the storybook record, just the neighbors As A Group, but i definitely think this update makes it a Lot more likely that home (the town) kind of exists, like, Outside of linear time? that it isn't so much that there's a divide between the stuff that was produced Then and what we see in the present day so much as it is that the stuff that the WHRP is uncovering is like, a window into what's going on in home Right Now, whether they realize it or not (and something may be actively blocking them from realizing??? not sure if it's that or if it's simply willful ignorance; i suppose we'll see.)

i'm reminded of a couple posts i made a little while ago, about the possibility that welcome home as a proper show never Actually existed, and the stuff that the WHRP's digging up is welcome home's attempts to will itself into reality anyway, for lack of a better description. but it also suffers from being tethered to a single person/group of people's Vision of it instead of being allowed to be an ever-evolving thing, or only being allowed to evolve in a Specific way. i dunno. i just kept thinking about that the entire time i was reading through this update.

anyways i'm also thinking about the way wally's eye-eating ability was represented in that post-storybook tape. i kind of like that it seems to be almost Overwhelming for him, like he hasn't gotten much of an opportunity to try it out before (if he's gotten any opportunity) and is like "oh. Oh. Oh. I Get It Now. holy shit." i don't have much to add onto that and that's just how i see it as of the time of this writing, but i would feel foolish if i didn't make note of it for later.

Ok, after a month I think it's time for me to actually say stuff about my OCs! (be warned–this is going to be kinda long.)

I have a few stories/worlds (three I drew characters from I think–) so I'll break it up based on that. After the character’s name, I'll put a day I drew them (I don't want to write descriptions…)

1 - A fantasy world set a long time ago. Basically, the world runs parallel to our world. Set around the year range 1000-1500 (i had a really specific one but i forgor). There are significantly less people than in our world because when “wizards” (normal people who take magic from places it isn't supposed to be taken from) die, there are great natural disasters/magic related catastrophes. Along with wizards, there are naturally occurring magical creatures/people. (I’ve done a lot of worldbuilding for this over the years, so if you are confused I would be happy to elaborate! I'm not going to write it all in this paragraph because that would be. a lot.)

Dandelion (day 2): she is a shapeshifter (can be a human or a mountain lion) who comes from the forest surrounding a small kingdom. Her mom was killed when she was young and she gets separated from her siblings, but she ends up making her way to the outskirts of the small kingdom and eventually becomes some sort of royal guard thing. She wants to go back to the forest, but her best friend (Lev) isn't allowed to leave, and she wont go without him.

Leverett ‘Lev’ (day 13): he is a prince of the kingdom, but not in line for the throne (that's his older sister). He gets sick easily (and is allergic to grass and pollen and whatever), and so is not allowed to do lots of things his sister is. Despite this, he wants to go on a “grand adventure” (with Dandelion) and sneaks out to try to do that more often than people usually want him to. He is really friendly, and is well liked by pretty much everyone he meets. This sort of makes up for the fact that he was taught zero survival skills.

Pon (day 12): they are the literal shadow of the latest wizard. They were brought to life in the wizard’s attempt to live forever (it's complicated) but it didn't work. After the wizard died (old age), Pon lived with his widowed wife until she died a few years later. They inherited the house, a small cabin/cottage in the middle of the woods, and they keep up the garden and read to pass the time. Pon is solid in direct light, and can be solid in the dark, but can also become more like a shadow and also move through walls. They meet Dandelion when she breaks into their house.

2 - Platformer video game concept I've had for a while that I probably wont start for a few years, if at all. Very basic, there are five areas: ocean, volcano, clouds, forest, and mirror world.

Farris(name may change)(day 24): main character. The flower behind their ear gives them a different power/attack for each area. They are friendly/helpful to a fault, causing them to help a magic talking tree.

Briar (day 3): she is the person who gives little hints about the map and the controls. She seems to know a lot about this strange world–more than Farris, maybe more than she should…

Cat merchant(day 27): is a calico cat that sells stuff. She's real silly. Makes Farris eat cat food.

3 - set in 2024 but there's magicians and vampires and dragons etc that are kept secret from normal people. Magicians do magic with the help of a familiar. A magician’s magic is passed down through genetics. Most people have some magic in them but not enough for them to do magical stuff. Not really important but I thought it was a cool idea–vampires drink the magic that's in blood, and if you don't have any magic in you, you're immune to vampires (and some other magic stuff). Same with werewolves–you would just get chomped and have to go to the doctor probably. But I'm getting off topic here. The type of magic that magicians use is different than the type of magic that magical creatures (vampires, dragons, etc) use.

Korbin (day 7): he's a highschooler who thought for all his life that he was just a normal guy. One day he discovers that he is a slightly cooler guy (can do magic), and makes friends with a couple other magical teens. His familiar is a raven named Peanut. She likes peanuts. Korbin really likes drawing, reading and going to the library. He 100% almost immediately gets a crush on Viktor. Because of some worldbuilding that I don't think I wrote down and have mostly forgotten, he accidentally does something and gets features from his familiar (aka cool wings).

Hecate (day 23): she has known she was a magician. She really really wants to do weird necromancy shit, but it is illegal (she does it anyway)(her parents dont know). She wants to be a doctor (100% for necromancy reasons). She has a snake familiar, I forgot her name tho. Snakie is totally on board with the whole creepy bones magic stuff, and she brings hecate small animals to “practice” on, causing hecate to have a bunch of small bones on her at all times. She is a grade younger than the other three. 

Erin (day 20, dragon form day 4): she is a dragon who was secretly swapped at birth with a kid in a magical family. She can change from dragon and human forms. When she uses magic, her eyes turn from brown to a yellowie gold like they are in her dragon form. She is very silly i love her. Since she is not a magician, she has a fake familiar (pet)(a possum named Theo) to blend in more (dragon changelings are really rare and her parents let her keep the possum that she found in her garage). She doesn't like Viktor as fast as Korbin and hecate do, but she warms up to him. She likes sewing.

Viktor (day 8): he's a vampire who grew up in a cult trying to get rid of the type of magic that magical creatures have, out of the fear of it being “too powerful”. He has a cat “familiar”(as a vampire he doesnt need one) named moon. He usually wears a turtleneck to hide his bite scars from people, but his family and the leaders of the cult do know about his vampirism, and are using him as a sort of test subject to try to learn how to un-vampire someone/take away the more potent magic from a magical creature. He ends up becoming friends with the other three after they learn that he's not a crazy cultist.

“no, I wanna draw my girl with a visor for fun”

so I just did that

PART 1 (Double Life Au)

Okay so, This is sorta similar to yesterdays thing, and also, I’ve literally posted about this, but now that I have my medication, i can ACTUALLY write it. TMF DOUBLE LIFE AU- Okay okay wait wait lemme recap then I’ll go into detail, because I dont want this to be a complete restatement of my older post, as its been more fleshed out since then.

So, for a recap, if you dont know what double life is, them it’s essentially the 3rd season in a mcyt series called “the life series/traffic life”. In this season, people are paired up with anothet person, their soulmate, and they take damage when the other person takes damage.

However, with that being the canon, many different headcanons and fan conceps have popped up for it, such as feeling everything your soulmate feels (Physically and mentally). I’ll only give one example because there are physically so many that i’d be here all day talking about them.

I would also like to take a second to say that i’m a firm truther in the fact that double life is an allegory for the fact that you cant be forced until love. Also, remember that soulmates can be platonic or romantic, or sometimes even enemies! (Not like im gonna make zailey soulmates, they could be platonic but Its just not my thing)

So what I proposed is that we take the tmf guys, and we throw them into the double life universe! This au was just a thought at that point, but I have it mostly mapped out now! So, heres a lil thing showing all the pairs ^^ (what no, I didn’t steal half these screencaps from rosypenguins and the tmf suffering bracket…LIESSS/silly)

My grandparents in cali had to evacuate their house like two days ago because of the fires and gonna be so fr for a sec im like scared out of my mind about this.. uhhh theyre living with my aunt rn so theyre good, but the fires are actually so close to their house when you look at the fire maps and like theres a lot of stuff in there that I personally don't want burnt up, like a giraffe I drew when I was a baby, and like theres just so much and im personally freaking out but uhhh actually im not bc literally nobody around me actually cares because its 'not their problem' chat like actually WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?! Its like nobody cares that australia and cali are both just on fire?? Like are you kidding me? THE GETTY has priceless paintings and stuff by Van Gough and it's fucking surrounded by fires. Where the hell are those paintings going? Like actually I feel like this happens whenever something happens around the world. Like russia invading ukraine? No one around me was worried about it. People actually just would not talk about it. Sometimes this type of stuff makes me really pissed.

I want to give some more context to the Knight Light Painting that I'm working on for school.

The theme that we have to work on is based around viewpoints and i have gone with how people interpret fictional characters and how they completely change them, as well as how an outsider would view these actions.

So how does Knight Light fall into this theme?

Well firstly, since his backstory is kind of vague (it really is just him triumphing over luminous in battle that lasted like a week at most and being stranded in the light realm) and his personality is just typical Knight and Angel stuff, I wanted to add on to it to give my own view on it.

My headcanon for him is that, he is just lost, tries his best to make others happy and always sacrifices himself for them, but doesn't know that they don't care, after losing his parents and sibling he feels a continuous need to try and protect the other Light skylanders (mainly Astroblast and Aurora), has strange relations with the rest of the trap masters. I feel like i should make a whole post relating to these headcanons but the basic takeaway is that i view him more as someone who has to put up a strong front but isn't fine inside. Again I would need to fully explain in it's own post.

Face wise i wanted to change the emotions he's showing from a somewhat stern look to a more solemn one contrasting with the brightness of the armour. Relating to this is my colour choice for his armour. In game its pure white, but the figure as an iridescent purple glitter to it. However, in this painting I'm making it look pink and purple. Knight Light does have a quite masculine design, so i want the pink and purple to contrast as well as make his armour appear softer to match the expression on his face. The now actually yellow/golden background (previously supposed to be a light greyish yellow but came out as a vomit green) is there to make the colours less harsh as well as unintentionally being close to the colour that was used for Knight Light and spotlight's official artwork background.

I guess that what drew me towards him compared to the other skylanders that were in my collection was that he was my first Light element skylander and that was what was special, and surprisingly not the fact that I was an eight year old boy who these buff heroes were to appeal to, well thats part of it now so maybe he was part of my realisation that I was gay (that and probably preferring to play as the girl ghostbuster in the ghostbusters wii game because she was a lot cooler than the guy)

It is hard to explain this sort of stuff to a teacher so I'm my sketchbook I literally just said "The game he is from is very vague with his backstory, like with all characters in the series" which to an extent is true, however other characters such as Spyro (coincidentally sharing a voice actor with Knight Light) are more fleshed out because they were around from the start.

If i were to able to analyse better this would be more coherent. I do want to talk about Just Dance maps (as Just Dance is actually my main interest) and give my own thoughts and theories on them so I'll probably make a side blog for that. This post mainly serves as an exercise for me to get better at giving context in my school art work.

Anyway to basically end me explaining a headcanon and school work i leave you with the refence photo (top) and two extra photos that i took to decide on (ignore the last one being sideways).

I don't know if this will make much sense to anyone else so when i actually finish the painting I'll rewrite this when i develop my thoughts more, as there is more i want to say but I don't know how to phrase it as of now.

Tricks up my sleeves took YEARS to be completed and they want to pretend they didn't know about the drama until now? After admitting they unfollow anyone who DARES bring up what shitty things ppl in the community are doing?? It's such BS what are yall talking abt them acting reasonably. Their care about the victims to these people is SO PISS POOR, they won't even add A WARNING A WARNING a sentence in the desc saying 'hey these two people suck don't watch if that would upset you'. Then at the same time are telling people to just not watch it if they don't like it? HOW??? IF YOU WON'T WARN THEM WHAT'S IN IT THEY CAN'T AVOID IT?? Almost like admitting they have two abusers in their map would be like... A bad look or something and they care abt that more than others safety or comfort.

Also they deleted my reply to their comment saying all this so no, they're not "being reasonable" this is purely and simply protecting the horrible artists who did that shit. Let's not play devil's advocate for ppl who draw CP please-

9) Did you like the map exploration and why?

I like the exploration where you are in Alm and Celica's PoV and can just look around for stuff a lot! Examining the background is great and all the flavor text does wonders for Alm and Celica's characterization. It's also really funny.

But for the rest... the overworld exploration is really annoying with the endless reinforcements especially if they attack you first (had some units in my Ironman runs die because they got the first turn and I couldn't do jack about it), and the dungeons are fun at first but get kinda tedious on repeated playthroughs.

18) Who's your favorite VA performance?

Boring response but, come on. Ian Sinclair by far, Berkut would be nowhere the character he is without his performance.

But honestly, every voice actor in this game is wonderful. Especially Kyle McCartney for Alm!

32) Do you ship any rarepairs? What drew you to them?

Oh, do I!?

In order:

Faye/Celica: Childhood friends to lovers, it having a slight base in canon with Faye actually thinking highly of Celica (or at the very least, she's happy to see her if Celica comes to visit Ram in Act 2), kinda has the same sugar star-crossed lovers vibes Alm/Celica has except Faye is actually a villager with no strings attached, Faye getting over Alm only to realize she has a thing for Celica, them being the only girls in Ram so probably Faye was Celica's best friend in Ram excluding Alm...

I could go on, really, but the short story is it has a lot of potential of both fluff and angst and there are a bunch of quality fanfics that got me into the rarepair to begin with!

Faye/Rinea: It has a lot of what makes Faye/Celica good with the whole farmer/nobility thing going, but also you're pairing the two women who arguably got fucked over by the narrative the most.

In-universe it makes a lot of sense, too, two women who placed their whole identity around a man with it ending in tragedy of both finding comfort and meaning in each other. Has a lot of both fluff and angst potential, especially with Witch Rinea being a thing.

Also I wrote a modern AU fluff fic about them which only made me get attached to the pair more. It's also the first proper fic about Faye/Rinea, something I love to brag about!

Celica/Rinea: Completing the OT3. Red/Blue dynamic, both noblewomen and also Celica would give Rinea all the love she deserves! Also look at this fanart come on

Celica/Clair: I feel Clair would definitely crush hard on Celica. As most women seem to do, really. Also dunno, I think it fits!

Sonya/Catria: They pretty😳 Also, similar cool/chill vibes!

Palla/Mathilda: It literally just came up to me. I think it fits a lot.

Python/Silque: Similar color scheme, looks cute, also shipping the cynical lazy bastard with the tireless devout healer is always nice!

Look I’m smart. I know that I am to the alien what Mr Oranges is to me. The alien even calls me some name in his language that I’m pretty sure is the English equivalent of “Little dingus.”

But he also feeds me stuff that is way better for my health than what we ever produced on Earth. And I don’t have to do anything for it - I don’t have to work or even beg. He just sees my fridge is empty and puts food in it. It’s a little bland but I just add some sautéed onions and garlic to everything and it helps. He’s picked up on the fact that I add garnishes and spices to the food he provides and has even started cultivating it himself to try and infuse it into my meals, which I appreciate, however it is never enough seasoning.

I know I’m in captivity. But he understands my boredom and has studied my species enough to know I just need some kind of stimulation. He’s watched me give Mr. Oranges little catnip-infused felt mouse toys, and has since given me yarn myself. I know how to hand crochet so I make these long blankets. Mr. Oranges tries to destroy them while I make them.

He just seems to want to observe me. He doesn’t use a whole lot of verbal language around me. In fact, I think he’s species communicates telepathically more than by voice, much like Mr. Oranges used to do with Shadow on our spaceship before it crashed and we got stuck here. I guess we were a gift to our caregiver by the human distribution system.

Sometimes he gives me random objects of no obvious nature to see what I do with them. Most of the time it depends on my mood. The first few objects were of a glass like material - clear and sharp when broken. I was scared and trying to present myself as a threat so I broke them and tried to use the pieces as a weapon. Mr. Oranges sensed my fear and would have my back - literally jump on me claws out, hissing at the alien.

The alien - who is in size to me as I am to Mr. Oranges - was unphased. Just curious. I think he picked up on my fear after that because he gave me a bigger living space and stayed a little further back from me the next few days.

One time I cut myself on the sharp stuff and bled pretty profusely. It took the alien a long time to realize what was happening, but once he figured out I was hurt he brought out this solution that he put on my hand and it significantly helped reduce the injury. I tied some extra fabric that’d ripped from my clothing around it. The next day, I woke up with more fabric-like material in my living quarters to make new clothes with. Except I didn’t know how to sew, and I didn’t have a needle and thread, so I just left it alone.

That is to say, being an alien’s pet was rough at first. But then Mr. Oranges found a chalk rock in our enclosure.

I started doodling with it out of boredom. The alien got closer and then left, then came back with more chalk rocks in more colors. I started drawing pictures of the items he’d given me and items I needed, like the fabric and needle and thread, and it took some back and forth but eventually I got what I needed. This is mostly how we communicate now. I don’t think their species has a written language though because I write words and the alien doesn’t write anything back. We just draw pictures.

I began to draw the things I needed in my enclosure until I had a bed, table and chairs, garden and even materials to make art with. It was really nice to be cared for enough I could just focus on making art and playing with Mr. Oranges.

Today he drew me a picture of my spaceship. Then he brought what looks like a map of space. But I was so far lost from the crash that I had no idea where I was. I just tilted my head to the side, the same way Mr. Oranges tilts his head to indicate confusion.

The alien’s body slumped as if he were sighing. Suddenly Mr. Oranges jumped on one planet on the map and aggressively meowed at me, as if to say, “Our planet is right here, dumbass.” I looked more closely at it and realized it was in a galaxy that resembled our Solar System. Mr. Oranges had, in fact, pointed out Earth.

I pointed again, and the alien’s expression lit up. He placed his hand - I think it was a hand - in my enclosure as if to carry me, so I grabbed Mr. Oranges and willingly boarded. He took us through his facility, which I determined was some kind of laboratory. We passed lots of different aliens studying various species across the universe. The big thing I noticed was that everyone was kind - there was no “experimentation” going on in the way humanity always imagined. We stopped in a big room with more aliens studying more species.

I recognized these species. They were from Earth. There were no humans, but several plants and animals. None of the plants were anything I managed to cultivate in my garden, but they were mostly ornamental plants I knew from before I became an astronaut, like ivy and roses. The alien lowered his hand and I got a closer look. The ivy was poison and there were snakes in the garden. I clung to his - thumb? - desperately and Mr. Oranges hissed at the snakes. He pulled his hand back up and gave an expression as if to say “sorry.” He conferred with the other aliens studying, who then pointed out another enclosure of mice. I could tell by their body language they were communicating without speaking, and I assume the other aliens were explaining the food chain to my alien.

He then decided to test my compatibility with other Earth creatures by placing his hands down in near the various enclosures. When we got to the dogs, I pointed to them and jumped, and the alien set me down. I was then bombarded with lovins. Mr. Oranges, however, chose to stay on the alien’s hand. My alien then beckoned his lab partners to watch, and even found a toy to give us to play with. I showed them all how we play fetch. They were delighted.

The aliens let us play for a while, but then they were ready to try something different. I booped the dogs goodbye and boarded the alien’s hand again, to Mr. Oranges’ delight.

The alien set me down outside the remnants of my spaceship. There were what appeared to be construction materials around the broken capsule, as well as more chalk rocks. I was a pilot, not an engineer, so I didn’t know how to fix it. I drew a stick figure on the ground and pointed to myself, then drew more stick figures on the ground to represent my team. I drew the spaceship and the stick figures building the spaceship, and myself flying it, hoping he would understand. He looked at me somberly, as if to say he’d found my team and they wouldn’t be able to help.

I tried to recover the captains log to see if I could get any coordinates to home, but it was destroyed. I would be stuck here a while. Still, the alien treated me well. And I learned a little about his world too.

They were giants there, but my alien was smaller than the others. I deduced that meant he was a young one, teenager perhaps. The laboratory I am housed in is like a school — Mr. Oranges and I are a science experiment. The alien took me to his home once. It was a rather large cave-like dwelling, but it was decorated with different types of art. Even the little chalk drawings I do to communicate with him are on the walls. His family (I think it was his family) was amazed at my presence. They pat his head like my dad did when I won the science fair all those years ago.

In some ways, being a pet is so nice. There are no worries, I do not struggle and the freedom to do whatever I want without a time frame is wonderful. But sometimes I miss my home. I know the alien senses that, because he studies my drawings of Earth and keeps trying to make my enclosure look like what I draw. It’s endearing, actually. I try not to lose my composure when he’s watching, but sometimes the agony is too great. I miss my family. I miss my pets. I miss my home.

In other ways, I am glad I am here. I get to share knowledge of humanity with an alien, and I’m the first to do so. That’s really neat.

It turns out that, rather than space orcs, humans are more like space cats. We believe ourselves to be the best species in the galaxy when we actually are taken care of by more advanced aliens while doing little more than be adorable and destroy local wildlife when left to our own devices.

no. fuck you. i'm gonna ramble about Holding Anchor's map evolution

now you might see this and ask me "what the hell is that" or "why are there black boxes"

well, uh, that's 5 years ago. say hi. the black boxes are just covering up stuff that makes literally no sense and provides nothing of value. Uchor extends all the way up to the top.

i think we accept that it's quite strange looking?

oh wow stuff has actual landmass! pretty cool, Eberin kinda looks like a chicken nugget. another random extra megacountry i crossed out just because it literally does not exist

you see, i asked my boyfriend for things to name fantasy countries and he gave me the name of Castlevania's setting. so i changed it to Waneria

at least there's more place names. i should use these actually

i actually forgot this one existed. my boyfriend drew this when i said i wanted a new map for it. i quote, "I call it the chicken nugget map. they are inspired by chicken nuggets"

i specifically do not want them to look like chicken nuggets

which is why i went with it, obviously

so um. this is the point where i had this version for two years without changing it. it annoyed be a lot that Waneria and Eberin were straight lines. i call it chicken nugget aesthetic

and so then, today, i spent like twenty minutes making Eberin and Waneria not straight-edged——

yeah so i hated the name Waneria. it sounded very mythical which is not the vibe Holding Anchor is supposed to have going for it. one of the protagonists has faced supremacy issues their entire life and the other was forced into slavery. there's airships and shit. Eberin is filled with so much smog unfamiliar foreigners find it hard to breathe because of its cheap manufacturing

so Waneria is Wallace now. Eberin thinks they're cooler than everyone else and is officially the "Republic of Eberin," which is asshole for "your ballots are fake" in my worldbuilding. Oharira is now Oharir because brain went "slightly too happy"

well not anymore. i also added little tiny islands in the middle of the ocean because those tend to exist and might be canonically useful. refuel ports, military bases, etc.

just, less fluffy nuggetness across the board. very island heavy overall, but i'm definitely okay with that.
