My Ted Lasso Re-watch: S2E1 (part 1)
Goodbye Earl
The season starts with Nate and will end with Nate. Like the season before started and ended with Rebecca.
I love the commentators.
7 straight ties. They aren't losing so it's a plus.
Bird of the pitch and a greyhound near by. Never good.
Dani Rojas, you did not deserve that to happen to you, you beautiful, kind hearted man. Earl did not deserve his fate either, he was a good boy.
Seriously though, that's how you open the season? How could you?
The opening song has now been added to my frequently used playlist. Along with the Mumford and Sons song 'Hopeless Wanderer' because I watched the music video and I did not know it was something I needed on my life. God damn it Sudeikis and Forte.
Internet, Higgins. INTERNET!!! It's always there to make things worse.
Ted making a Star Wars reference to Keeley. Still haven't forgiven Jason for punching baby Grogu. And I won't, no matter how attractive and funny I find him.
Why does Rebecca panic at Ted's press conferences? He's got this one.
Ted giving Sam credit for his continued improvement. He wouldn't be doing that if he was back on defense, Rupert!
Trent, we all know who you are and who you work for. But it's fun saying it all the same. But the question, my guy, that's a harsh way to put it when it was very clearly an accident. I know you like to be edgy, but that's too much.
Ted's personal anecdotes, diffusing situations and awkward questions.i can relate to Ted's fear of dogs. I had a large dog jump up on me when I was a kid. And it was a pretty big dog too. I thought it was going to bite me, it probably wasn't (I hope). But for whatever reason it ran straight at me and jumped on me and scared me. And for years I was scared of dogs. Couldn't be near them. And then we got one. A few years after my mum died, we got a dog. Her name is Bella, she's a chocolate labrador. She is 13 years old now and I love her so much because she taught me not to be scared of dogs. So, yeah, I get what Ted is saying here. Bella helped me get to a better place and we gave her a loving home. I tear up thinking about what she has done for me, and I don't think I could bare thinking about a time when she won't be there.
How's Dani doing? Well, not good. Pretty shit, actually. The man is trying to spiritually cleanse himself. That's not a good sign.
Colin, honey, I know you're a himbo but come on! The hot water is not the important thing here. The man spiralling is.
Jokes aren't going to help you here, Ted. Nothing will. Except some professional help...
I'm with Sam on the long baths thing. Prefer them over showers any day. Also they help when my chronic illness decides to annoy me.
Jan Maas, our new Dutch player. Dude just says what's on his mind. He'll be alright.
Aww, Henry being Ted's biggest fan and wearing 7 ties for him.

meg’s obx s3 thoughts (don’t read if you enjoy jiara or don’t want to read spoilers)
overall thoughts:
plot—i’ve said it once and i’ll say it again, i do not care about the gold plot. i like obx for the fun and goofy summer teen vibes with some messy romance and that silliness that we haven’t really seen since season 1 despite tiny one or two line teases of it every so often. i don’t care about the gold and i don’t think anybody should be that rich to have that gold and seeing the kids at the end with all that money just felt SO weird in like a fanfiction i wrote at 13 sort of way. secondly, too much adults this season. yeah i’m an adult and i usually enjoy a good adult pov in a teen show but these adults are off the rails so it’s not like a splash of maturity and groundedness it’s just straight up murder and child ab*se. the only good adults on this show are the heyward parents and we barely got to see them but i’ll give the writers what we did see was so warm and inviting and felt like the only safe space of this entire series. finally, although there’s so much to touch on, the poguelandia bit really broke my suspension of disbelief bc where was the body hair and grease and sunburn?? i know this show is written purely to be a male fantasy but let’s be real.
characters:
pope—number one character third season ina row!! he was amazing and is always amazing. it hurt seeing how pope was hurting because of his breakup with kie but i’m glad they didn’t brush it all over and pretend it was nothing to him the way they wrote it for kie. it also felt realistically in character for the academic burnout and perfectionism to spiral when pope got back and temporarily drops out of school, but i’m so happy that it quickly got resolved of course with the help of popes loving support system. slay baby!!
sarah—babygirl was a standout to me this season. i enjoyed her in s1 and was extremely bored of her in s2 but she came right back around and basically took all the screen time and did not disappoint. i mean, she did cheat on john b and that’s icky but i’m not saying she’s a good person her character was just really fun to watch if that makes sense. i’m still waiting for us to learn ANYTHING about sarah (or kie or any woman on this damn boat show) because right now sarah cameron is just an enigma and not much a human person. but madelyn can act!!
kie—well, i really enjoyed kie in season 1 and i kind of felt meh in s2 and this season i’m just not able to enjoy her character anymore. the rich girl who wants to be edgy thing is getting old and like yeah i get feeling connected to your friends but babes being a “pogue” (i cringe every time i hear it especially at this point in the show) is about growing up with all the cards stacked against you and being a poor kid on a super rich touristy island and like yeah the “kook” kids are rich assholes but kie needs to stop getting so heated when people call her a kook because she is. anyway. i’m sorry but kie is just such a missed opportunity because the writers refuse to give her any sort of dimension besides being a not-like-other-girls girl and literally all of her scenes were either being an unhinged 16 year old trying to go dangerously flee to south or central america or jiara or with rafe cameron and i just couldn’t enjoy any of her scenes. i’ve given up on obx writing even one decent female character.
jj—i can’t stand him anymore. i know, i know, he’s the boy of the moment but at this point he’s gained zero character development and all the other characters are off the rails so he feels so much less banana pants as he did the first season. and again, with no time for goofy silliness his character just faded into the background for me. i would’ve loved to see literally anything in the way of character growth, like he could’ve have a good going back to school ark alongside pope or maybe gotten at job at heywards or anything but all of his scenes were either jb side kick or jiara and his actual character just fell flat for me.
cleo—i want a flushed out female character SO badly!!!!!!!! i can’t wait for fanfic writers to give her some personality of her own because she and pope have fabulous chemistry and i’m rooting for them but i barely know who she is.
john b—he got absolutely played this season. he’s grown on me a lot since season 1 but then he started to beat topper into oblivion and it really brought me right back to not liking this kid. i mean get that he’d just seen his dad murder people and that’s super traumatic but like this show is already enough toxic masculinity and i just need him to find a different way to express himself. i know obx writers are not at all concerned with being socially progressive or conscious in any way shape or form but watching this show as an adult woman is just ~shakes head~
relationships:
sarah and john b—are they married? lmao i don’t remember this at all. the wiki page says not legally so i don’t even know but that seems on brand for the level of chaos that is this show. i feel like they’ve reached a point where they don’t need to be together. like, i’m sorry but if sarah or john b were my friends i’d give them the advice to break up. like jb she cheated on you with an ex at the very first fight. and sarah, please just get with a guy who’s stable and kind and not physically or verbally violent with you or anyone else. plus the chemistry was all off this season so even in their good moments it just felt like a sinking ship to me.
jj and kie—if you follow my blog you know my take on this ship. i tried to go in open minded but the writing was so poor that it didn’t feel natural at all. the thing that really got to me was the “jayj” nickname. i know it was all fanservice and the nickname is popular in the fandom but kie nor anybody else has EVER called him that prior to this season and it just felt so forced and weird. like she’s always called him jj and that’s already a nickname. whatever. i also wonder what actual jiara shippers think because i thought any natural chemistry was crushed with how awful the writing was. don’t get me started on the entire weird dynamic with jj breaking her out and driving her around on his dirt bike in a high speed chase without a helmet on.
pope and cleo—fantastic natural chemistry and probably the most likeable couple this season imo. i wish cleo was flushed out and had her own characterization and layers because they have a lot of potential. they’re fanfic-trope heavy as well but with tropes i like so i’ll allow it. cleo getting along with popes family was so cute to watch and the way she and popes dad joked around was so natural and sweet.
final thoughts:
this was pretty negative and yeah i didn’t know if i was going to even watch the new season because it feeling kind of bored and meh after s2, but i needed something lighthearted to watch and i wanted to see where they were going to go with the story, especially for pope because he really is one of my favorite characters atm. regardless, at this point i don’t know if i’m gonna stick around for the next season or not. it’s really hard to watch a show that is as strong of a male fantasy as this one. like there are no fleshed out female characters, no queer characters, and it’s so hard to relate to what any of these characters are going through because they’re living on deserted islands with shaved legs and bumping off of yachts to and from central and south america to go fight mob bosses and find an ancient city that was so easy to find i was shed of my suspension of disbelief. last thought, the dynamite scene was so wtf because why’d he bring it (1) and (2) for that much money people could just absolutely mine that mountain, so it’s absolutely not “giving up the gold for his son” kind of redemption arc that isn’t possible for his character after all big john has done.
those are my thoughts. argue with me if you want but if you follow my blog you likely agree with some of these takes.

the hell is mystreet season 6??
(warning, long post ahead)
ok so before i start this
1) ive never posted shiiiit on tumblr before so watch me suffer, im just here to talk about stuff that my friends who dont know anything about aphmau have to listen to me rant about for hours on end
2) i havent seen mystreet in like years (except season 3, i watch that frequently since im laurance and shadow knight deprived) so please bear with me because i might be completely wrong on this lol. it’s just like, pointing out things i remember
3) im sure someones already talked about this but who cares
4) im gonna do this stupid thing where i just explain myself a bit at first, if you dont want to read that just skip to the part where you see “the actual thingy:” in bold and italics
5) mild disclaimer; i am completely aware that jessica is not a professional writer. i know that she did her best to appeal to her fans, and honestly, respect for that. while this post will come off as aggressive and probably look like hate, that’s not my intention in the slightest. it’s just... intense criticism. im sure y’all probably already know that, but yeah, just stating that anyways. i do believe that jess is doing her best, and in no way do i want to dismiss any hard work she’s done. that being said; prepare for a very strongly opinionated post.
haha watch there be 10000+ typos in this making me look like a complete dumbass
ok here we go
one of the main reasons i stopped watching aphmau back in 2017 was the mess that was season 4. like, in the first few episodes of the emerald secret, i thought “woah!! this is kinda cool, im a sucker for mystery!” because of course i was, it was something new and something exciting. the only problem i had with it at the time was kim, but that’s just because i always found her annoying and out of place. i just didn’t understand why garroth dragged her along and honestly i still don’t to this day BUT, moving on.
anyways, as the season progressed, 13 year old me was of course just “:0!!” the entire time--that is, up until the reveal of the main villain. i remember watching the episode, seeing the reveal of ein, and then stopping. like, just for a quick break, but i was still just overwhelmingly disappointed. like, and this was the time when pdh was airing and ein just got made alpha (i think?) and i had really really liked eins character in pdh. either way, that really sucked and actually opened my eyes to a lot of things.
one of the main things bein’ the fact that this was supposed to be a slice of life kinda series that decided to take a turn to a more edgy kinda approach. which, i guess i regularly wouldnt mind? but seeing as mcd was kinda bein neglected at the time it just didnt sit right with me. BUT WHATEVER, point is i stopped watching mystreet all together at the end of season 4.
like, a whole year later my brother tells me that shit’s getting intense in season 5 + 6 of mystreet, and my brilliant self decided to give it a shot--but i refused to watch all of season 5, so i only stepped in when ein made an appearance. so whenever that was, that’s where i picked up because i didnt care enough to see
and y’know--i honestly didn’t hate it at first. in fact, i found it oddly cool. it wasn’t enough to get me into aphmau again, but it was enough to where i was intrigued. i dont know why, but i never watched the finale, so i didnt see the ending until just a few weeks ago--but back then, i thought it was neat. looking back on it however... im just so confused.
side note: only got back into aphmau this time around because of mcd. mainly because like, i adore the first season and the first half of the second season. and being nearly 18 now, im a lot more appreciative of plot and well-written characters n junk.
the actual thingy:
ok back on track. imma stop spilling out my story of how i got back into aphmau, and lets just skip to what rewatching mcd made me realize of season 6′s plot and shit:
-emmalyn. how the fuck does ghost even remotely exist? if she’s emmalyn as claimed, then why have we already seen emmalyn in the mystreet universe alive? look i get that creators can do whatever they want with their stories but at the same time please provide some sort of explanation good god. and maybe they did and i just havent seen it, so if there is one--let me know. but until that day imma just sit here confused as fuck
-ok so imma just be real, the whole ‘ultima’ thing is just... not great. in my opinion, anyways. like... i saw someone mention this in another post, but if this ultima stuff was like, a really big deal, why isnt it mentioned in mcd? though i suppose since its a curse of sorts, it could be later on past the time period in which mcd takes place--but even then, how did it manage to make its way into aaron’s family bloodline?
-WHY IS EVERYONE AT STARLIGHT ITS JUST SO CONVINIENT like what happened to this place being the most expensive shit on the planet or whatever, and how the gang happens to run into like, the werewolf trio and blaze and kai and guy and nate all of these people like god damn life doesnt WORK LIKE THAT
-im sorry but turning people into relics? thats... thats the best you could come up with? plus, like, how does that even work? in mcd it’s established that relics are separate entitles that choose their wielder, based on a ‘personal’ connection (being a descendent of a previous wielder) or if they’re a good match personality and (i think?) moral wise. so the whole turning-people-into-relics doesnt make much sense to be honest.
-irene really over here using her god powers to only keep her friends alive like god damn not a great god if you ask me
-can i talk about how incredibly predictable aphmaus death was? like i just kinda sat there waiting for it to happen and when it did i literally went “haha! wonder when she’ll be revived” because god forbid we actually kill off characters
-when aphmau + demon warlock fought in the irene dimension there was no passage of time whatsoever in the real world whiiiiiiiiich really bothers me because they fought in there for at least a few minutes
-speaking of aphmau and the demon warlocks fight does it bother anyone else that it had to be aaron who took over the fight?? like we get it hes the big protector blah blah blah but god damn it wouldve been cooler if aphmau had fought this battle as her. aaron fighting this battle was so underwhelming
-...love. like, thats the only thing thats needed to break out of a forever potion? love? LIKE YEAH, GOOD GUYS GOTTA WIN SOMEHOW, but its just so cliche and overdoneeee
-oh yeah and also when travis went bonkers and became the demon warlock or whatever, why’d he only take over katelyn and garroth?? like, zane had been influenced by the potions in the past as well? DONT GET ME WRONG--i do love some good brother edge, but uh, the demon warlock was just bein kinda a dumbass by not possessing zane too just sayin’
-can aaron please go to fucking jail for mass murder now like holy shit, he just got sent home on a fuckin boat. also why did blaze forgive him for killing him thats not even remotely realistic. then again, nothing in mystreet has ever been realistic when it comes to characters and motives and personalities, (cough katelyn being actually abusive and travis being an actual pervert) but yknow whatever
-katelyn and kawaii chan literally added nothing to the plot whatsoever. like lets be real, katelyn lost her personality the moment season 5 started and kawaii chan just kinda sits there :I
-ok im sorry this was bound to come up but cmon guys imagine laurances potential if he was in season 6 like god damn this is beyond maddening. AND YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A REALLY REALLY COOL PARRALLEL?? IF IT WAS LAURANCE WHO SNAPPED GARROTH OUT OF HIS MIND CONTROL THING, because it would mimic laurance’s speech to get garroth to snap out of his rage in season 1, episode 100 of minecraft diaries. like how fuckin rad would that have been? missed opportunity
-also?? why does kim/ghost know magicks?? like, if i remember correctly, emmalyn is a scholar--not someone who knew magicks. i mean, i guess research? study?? but its been established that knowing how magicks works =/= being able to use magicks. i dunno, just doesnt seem right i guess. maybe its explained, i wouldnt know (yes i know that makes me look like a dick leave me alone)
-melissa should have stayed dead. LIKE, NO, ITS NOT AS SIMPLE AS “haha it takes more than a few bullets to kill me”??? look ive got nothing wrong with melissa (cough lie cough) but yknow it would have just been cool a character... stay dead? for once? its just too fuckin cliche that shes alive god damn
-can i also just say the only good thing that came out of season 6 was travis’ dads sacrifice like damn that made me actually sad
-howww was lucinda turned into a relic. or yknow, anyone else? like im sure they explain it better in the actual show i just dont remember, but its just that easy? turning anyone into a relic? granted, a normal person wouldnt be able to produce a good relic, but idk man. IM JUST SAYING; that the only really powerful relics that aphmau should have been able to wield is the one that aaron + zane produced because shad relic and esmund relic moment. lucinda isnt even like, connected to a divine warrior. ALSO, another point, if its seriously that powerful of a relic getting one from just a magic user like lucinda, why go through the trouble? i mean i guess ofc youd want the “all powerful” one that the ultima produces but i mean damn whats the point
-ok this is just going to bother me but in one of the episodes (i think might have been in season 5 actually) where that like, guardian dude was chasing aphmau and zane and at one point they split up and the dude just chuckles at zane diverting paths and goes under his breath “youre not the important one here”, suggesting that aphmau somehow is? first of all, id argue that any ro’meave is significantly more important than aphmau was, especially not knowing much about her other than that shes with aaron. i might be missing some bits an pieces, but if i was that dude id forget about aphmau and go after zane
-killing off derek for shock factor sucked, and i know the moment was supposed to be really sad because like “oh :( aarons dad is sacrificing himself for his son” but lets be real dereks still was a shitty father and i dont think his reasons for doing what he did was very good at all
-less about plot or more like: why the absolute fuck did the gang bring kim along instead of, oh i dont know, a life-long friend? like, laurance or dante maybe?? im sure its explained, i never saw aphmaus year or most of season 5, but god DAMN id hate to be apart of this friend group AND GOD LIKE, imagine reconnecting with an old friend who ends up getting closer to your best friends and taking priority in their lives over you (cough laurance) like god damn lol
-im just going to preface this one with: i dont remember everything that’s happened, so if im wrong i apologize in advance--but (you actually can correct me if im wrong and please do) didnt like, irene reincarnate her friends in order to give them better lives? I DONT KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE, ITS JUST WHAT I REMEMBER--however, if im correct, then:
a. why the hell would she bring back someone like zane, or gene, or ivy, etc.
b. why the hell do they all have the same exact names? first and last? again, im aware that the whole mystreet+mcd tie wasn’t originally supposed to be there, but i dont think that means such a coincidence can be excused? its just a bit much if you ask me.
c. why the hell is the fact that (as much as i literally hate this) aaron is a decedent of shad being ignored? like, you’d think that something like this would be something thats actually important, or something the demon warlock couldve taken advantage of. or are we completely erasing every other connections to divine warriors besides aphmau + irene? because even if irene did reincarnate them or do whatever it is she did, does she even have the power to sever the connections between them and their ancestors? my guess is, no.
d. speaking of irene why on earth was aphmau able to talk to/see irene, they’re literally the same person are they not? did she like, fuckin reincarnate herself without actually doing it?? BUT--i will give it to them, the demon warlock did refer to aphmau as something along the lines of being “one of the 3 parts of her broken soul” or something like that. however, my point still remains. also what are the other two did i miss that or is it never explained
now; if irene in fact did not ‘reincarnate’ her friends then please ignore that little bit right there :)
but yes, those are a few of the problems i have with season 6 off the top of my head. i would go into like, season 4 and 5 more as well, but i honestly didnt feel like it. at some point i might go into other things, like how important laurance could have been to the plot of these later seasons, or HELL, even dante. i might also go into what could have made season 4, 5, and 6 actually good--maybe... a rewrite? perhaps? but im getting too far ahead of myself, so i just leave you with this for now.
and i know that as soon as i post this 15 more things are just going to pop into my head BUT im going to try and not edit this post because why stress myself with that even more
anyways thank you for coming to my tedtalk

OKAY. SINCE ANONS SEEM TO BE INTERESTED. HERE IS MY DAWSON’S CREEK 1X01 REVIEW.
@jayciethings IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
1. I think the opening scene does a good job in establishing the central struggle of the season and it does it in 3 minutes: 1) things need to change and Joey wants them to 2) Dawson doesn’t see why anything has to change and doesn’t see what Joey is trying to say 3) burgeoning sexuality 4) Joey-Dawson friendship.
2. I also think the Joey-Dawson friendship is also established really well and it’s actually a time where dialogue and action work in tandem. They give a brief history/overview of their friendship: “you’ve been sleeping over since you were 7″ “i’ve seen you pick your nose, scratch your butt” while also showing them watch tv, playfight and ultimately end up sleeping in the same bed, like they did when they were 7.
3. I actually don’t find the dialogue as annoying right now.
4. I will forever be angry that they didn’t pay to have the original music with their scenes because Dawson’s Creek is not Dawson’s Creek without “I Don’t Wanna Wait”.
5. “He did it again, he grabbed my ass.” “Like you even have one.” Joshua’s delivery is perfect because it’s resigned and un-offended.
6. “I’m Jen.” “Oh right, the granddaughter from New York.” That actually isn’t clunky. It’s a good way to do exposition.
7. “You look different.” “Puberty.” LOL Joey Whitter sass.
8. Honestly, at least so far, Joey’s behaviour makes sense for a 15 year old girl who is in love with her best friend who doesn’t see her as a sexual being and then has to watch him salivate over The New Girl. No, that isn’t Jen’s fault but sometimes people on this site act like teenagers or adults for that matter don’t have messy and not-so-great emotions/reactions to things. Unless, apparently, they’re men who are rapists and serial killers, then the understanding is boundless.
9. It’s actually refreshing to hear “Mr. Leery” “Mrs. Leery” since teens in shows now just call adults by their first names, which I would NEVER do. I still can’t do that. If I had to address initiumseries’ dad it would be Mr...
10. I also think it’s funny that this dialogue is being made fun of but this kind of cadence and irony is the kind of thing shows go for now -- Riverdale tries to emulate this and I would argue Euphoria tries to do an edgier version of this. Like Nellie insulting Pacey, that kind of tone is what they’re trying to go for with Cheryl.
11. I’ll admit this is more fun than I thought it would be so far.
12.  I LOVE WHAT’S EDGY FOR THE NINETIES. SHE IS IN A SUNDRESS. SETTLE DOWN.
13. “I have it on pretty good authority that mothers have excellent sex.” LOL Pacey, dick move.
14. Renting The Graduate, how on the nose.
15. THEIR CLOTHES ARE SO 90s.
16. The soundtrack pisses me off so much.
17. Oh Dawson. I knew so many self-important, I’m-so-deep-I-like-these-kinds-of-movies or -this-kind-of-music boys in high school. Like I find it so typical that he thinks his obsession with Spielberg would interest Jen.
18. Dawson taking Jen to his studio is like Klaus taking Caroline to sees his drawings.
19. Oh man, I remember being a kid and watching these teen shows with my cousin and seeing how Capeside High School was with everyone on a quad and throwing footballs and being like HIGH SCHOOL IS GOING TO BE LIKE THAT and my cousin just being like
Tumblr media
20. I like how Dawson’s Creek is the whitest show and they still managed to have more Black extras than Gilmore Girls.
21. Dawson and Jen actually have a nice chemistry. But everyone is coming on super strong with Jen and she’s just kind of like, this seems normal.
22. The film teacher is a dick for no reason. I’ve had my fair share of dickish teachers but this is excessive right off the bat.
23. Lol poor Jen, she really is trying with Joey.
24. I like how a status of Joey’s class is the fact that her sister is engaged to a Black man *eye roll*
25. I don’t know of any school where teachers ate in the cafeteria with the students. In my school there were teachers who supervised the cafeteria but that’s it. Wow, I spent like no time in my high school cafeteria.
26. “I’m having a climax issue”
Tumblr media
27.  Tamara, Ms. Jacobs, you should be in jail.
28. I like how this school LOOKS like a school.
29. Ugh, a trans jokes. Ugh, there was so much of that in the 90s.
30. “Nothing has to change. We can talk about anything.” Honestly, from a screenwriting point of view, this is a solid pilot. I remember in a screenwriting class I took, we studied The Social Network and every 10 pages someone calls Zuckerberg either an asshole or a jerk or something in that vein as a way to reiterate a key part of the theme of the movie and while I don’t have the pilot script in front of me, DC does reiterate the theme of the season frequently without it being repetitive.
31. The dialogue isn’t as hyperbolic as I remember tbh. And I’m going to say it again, shows are aiming for this, even the one episode I saw of the Winx Saga, when they try to flirt about mansplaining, when she’s fighting with her mom about how she’s not a feminist, they’re trying for this. But DC manages to make it more natural and it’s because the Core 4 have a charm. Even if you hate Dawson.
32. Who is Dawson’s dad. Is he in something else?
33. No, I just think he looks like Dr. Cox.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
34. Dawson’s rant about sex not being important is hilarious. Yes, Dawson, you’re just pursuing Jen out of intellectual and philosophical desire.
35. I like how Joey is supposed to be a tomboy just because she’s the only girl/woman in Capeside who doesn’t wear a sundress.
36. Poor Jen.
37. Joey is super dramatic, I get that, but I kind of love it because I’m going RELAX but the way I would to a teenager. Like CALM. DOWN. Also “all I do is understand” is something that we needed to see more of before that argument.
38. Dawson, you never ask anyone else any questions about themselves, lol.
39. “How can you say you were just renting a movie??” Pacey is such a fifteen year old and I do wish the show would just ... let him be one? And what I mean by that is Pacey is supposed to be the friend with the edge, the fact that he “pursues” Ms Jacobs is supposed to attest to that fact, it’s framed as taboo and yet they’re presented as being on equal footing, even the way her date moves to grab him out of his seat when the fact of the matter is, he’s a kid, and if the show didn’t actually make the Tamara/Pacey relationship a storyline and made it about another way teenagers have certain idealized perceptions of relationships or apply kid knowledge to adult situations which still makes them kids, it would’ve been interesting too.
40. Dawson is literally dressed in different shades of beige. If that doesn’t say everything you need to know about his character --- which is intentional. But like jfc man.
41. I love that they can’t say “masturbate” so she has to say “walk your dog” I LOVE THE NINETIES.
42. And you know what, after that question was asked, the sheer heartbreak on Joey’s face and the sadness in Dawson’s eyes is done really well.
43. LMAO SO ANGSTY. No one does angst like the 90s.
44.  And legitimately, the ending of this pilot is great screenwriting because a change is noted, the beginning of the episode, Joey does end up staying the night, the end of the episode she leaves because they both realize it’s true that things are changing and yet Dawson answers her question about what time of day he masturbates and to who because they’re still Dawson and Joey. And that’s the way a pilot should be written.
OK. I’ve done it.

i would be very interested in learning more about horwood (derogatory) if you're interested in explaining?
okay so
so William Horwood was is (apparently he’s still alive and kicking in his 70s) a writer who wrote perhaps the best-known sequel to The Wind in the Willows in 1993: The Willows in Winter. (He wrote three more following after it: Toad Triumphant, The Willows and Beyond, and The Willows at Christmas, but the first one is the one most will be familiar with due to the 1996 movie.)
(He wasn’t the first person to write a sequel to WitW; that honour goes to Dixon Scott in 1983 with A Fresh Wind in the Willows although that had some funky copyright issues)
The Willows in Winter does its best to mimic the style of the original book, and to some extent it does succeed. It is, however, still essentially published fanfiction and, as such, it has some wonderful ‘misses’ that I will mock this 27-yo story for. (I admittedly kinda love the movie it was adapted into, so this is all done with the same kind of ribbing my friends lovingly bestow upon me after I walk into glass walls or eat notably dodgy apples like some modern-day snow white)
These misses include but are not limited to:
awkward character decisions
These Characters Are Aggressively Not Gay
But Sometimes It Will Read Very Gay Anyway
hilarious character names
I Will (Almost) Kill Mole Multiple Times
Sometimes Twice In The Same Book
you will read “The Water Rat” more than you ever did in witw
Rat has river-speaking abilities now
Badger has one (1) response to “someone has vanished” and it’s to organise a funeral
Rat sees heaven for, like, a moment
Toad nearly gets hanged
Anyway, because I have A Lot of thoughts about the book, here’s a spoiler-inclusive breakdown of the plot for your enjoyment below the cut:
The story starts with Mole’s nephew who we will call “Nephew” for the sole fact that Horwood never deigns to give him any other name. (I have been reliably informed that the next story has Badger’s grandson creatively named... Grandson, just in case anyone thought this might be a one-off.)
It has been... an indistinguishable number of years since the original book, and Horwood decided the natural character development for the polite and loyal Mole is for him to have become a grumpy old soul who has been passing his recently orphaned Nephew around his friends because he doesn’t like company.
The biggest issue Mole has is that he erroneously told Nephew that he could stay “as long as [he] wants” and, well, you have to see this for yourself:
...for ‘as long as you want’ soon feels like a life sentence to a bachelor like Mole, unused to sharing his home with another for more than an evening at a time.
(Mole is a Bachelor, okay? He’s definitely not accustomed to living whole seasons with Ratty, to the point that he nearly forgets what his own home looks like.)
So Mole is beginning to think that perhaps Nephew isn’t The Worst Thing Ever when Portly turns up in the middle of a horrible snow storm and, in attempting to warm him up, Nephew gives him too much alcohol and promptly sends Portly off to sleep, but not before he imparts that he came running all this way because Rat said that he needed Mole.
So Mole heads out into the terrible snow storm, gets to the River, and carves his will into a tree because this is Horwood’s fanfic and he can write angst if he wants to, dammit! And, naturally, everything goes wrong. a la Don’t Carry It All style.
You may be saying, oh plot! This sounds dramatic! I regret to inform you that Rat was not, in fact, in danger, but was actually just snowed in with Otter and drunkenly remarked that it’d be so much jollier if Mole joined them (no homo), and then carried getting so drunk that neither of them realised that Portly was gone until three days later.
[A helpful comic illustrating Otter’s parental abilities]
Tumblr media
(This is, of course, the same Portly for whom Otter spent days trying to find in The Piper At the Gates of Dawn chapter of the original book. Turns out his  parental approach has drastically changed since then.)
After some searching, they find Mole’s will carved into the tree and deduce that Mole attempted to cross the frozen river and failed and they decide to leave off searching until it’s light again. In the meantime, we get this lovely passage that I actually adore for how tender it is:
The Water Rat knew a night of shadows and half-dreams, memories of Mole in the hot afternoon sun of summer, reflecting upon life. Such remembrances tormented the poor Rat till dawn came once more and he stared bleakly out of the window, tears trickling down his face, listening to the quiet bustle of the other three round the corner in the kitchen.
During all of this, Toad has discovered a love of flying machines (biplanes, to you and me) and the Riverbankers claim use of his newest one to search for Mole. Long story short, Toad tricks his way into being the pilot, flies so badly that he unseats Rat (who manages to deploy his parachute in time, but has a near-death experience beforehand) and then crashes the plane into a greenhouse in town.
The other Riverbankers find Rat, who has survived his fall (even if he has seen Beyond the Veil) and he’s currently Talking to the River (Horwood decided to take the “water” part of Rat’s name as a personality trait) and Rat assures the Riverbankers that Mole isn’t dead because the River Said So.
Badger is like, cool, cool, okay he’s suffered a mental break from losing Mole, and possibly Toad too, so we’re going to do the sensible thing and host a funeral for Mole. (Have I mentioned how much they are definitely straight?)
Anyway, in a move that would make any soap opera green with envy, Mole manages to find his way back to the Riverbank just in time to crash his own funeral, scaring everyone witless until they realise their mistake. (I did say this was published fanfiction.) Everyone is happy, Mole is not dead, and life goes merrily on.
Meanwhile, Toad has had a few misadventures, that include:
crashing into a greenhouse that belongs to the judge who sentenced him in the original book
somehow no one realises he’s Toad, so he stays in bed as the heroic pilot who risked life and limb to stop his plane from crashing into the town
escaping disguised as a chimney sweep
turning up to a wedding that the judge was attending and getting arrested
being accused of murdering the missing chimney sweep
being sentenced to be hanged for murdering the missing chimney sweep
being acquitted from the crime when it turns out the chimney sweep is still alive
(Yes, Horwood really went, hey I should raise the stakes from the original, and then put Toad on trial for murder under threat of hanging.)
(If what I’ve heard about the later books, Horwood decided that what the Extended WitW Universe was missing was an overarching antagonist, which he rectifies by having the judge return several times.)
Toad is set on his way and he slowly returns back to the Riverbank, mostly because he’s under the impression that not only is Mole dead, but that he probably killed Rat too (this is a Fun Kid’s Book) whereupon he eventually discovers that, uncared for, Toad Hall has fallen into flooded ruin. He mopes and drinks and lights candles before toddling off to Badger’s home, where Badger is having a thoroughly miserable party that has pretty much turned into a Mourning Toad party and they all celebrate Toad’s return. There’s even a sweet moment:
Toad, very drunk and sad: What am I, Badger? Badger: You are home, Toad.
And then in the last two minutes of the book, Toad Hall burns to the ground because Horwood couldn’t resist a last-minute sprinkling of drama into the story.
(Also, also, the last few lines of the book seems to imply that the name of “The Mole” is something that’s inherited like the title of Caesar was, and Nephew will one day be The Mole and I can’t get over that.)
The End.
Anyway, Horwood is evidence that fanfic writers have always gone, “I can add angst to this,” and that you really shouldn’t feel so bad about that edgy OOC fanfic you wrote when you were 13 because it turns out some people go and get theirs published.
And that’s why some of us have “Horwood (Derogatory)” as a meme.

I’m not good at explaining my thoughts, but can you debunked the whole Jet and Zuko are bad boys claims? People always say this to keep others from shipping jetara and/or zutara or when they want to trash talk Zuko and Jet characters.
Thanks for the ask and I’m sorry it’s taken me a while to answer it! To be completely honest, I’m not great at articulating my thoughts too 😅. However, I’ll try to answer this question as best as I can (given it’s 1am and I get rambly at this hour).
Before we get into the Jet/Zuko discussion, we need to define what a “bad boy” is, because there’s many different interpretations of the term. For this ask, I’ll be using the definition of the bad boy archetype from this site:
The Bad Boy is someone who hides. Something has happened to them in the past or currently is affecting them and they deal with it by putting up an armor around themselves. This armor protects them for those around them who might be able to see who the real them is. The Bad Boy wants to hide away but he must open up to reveal himself... the Bad Boy doesn’t purposely hurt people to make them feel his pain. He rebels instead of living the life he once did. But unlike the Rebel, he doesn’t truly have a cause for his rebellion. He wants to be heard through his rough exterior without being seen.
So I’m going to start off with Zuko, because I’m much more comfortable talking about his character. And this is primarily because Zuko was one of the main characters of the show and didn’t die at the tail end of season 2.
Honestly, I can never understand how Zuko is perceived as a “bad boy” by so many people. I mean, the only time when I can agree that Zuko’s character could somewhat be interpreted as a “bad boy” is during the first half of season 3. Yes, you read that correctly. Season 1 Ponytail Zuko was not a bad boy; he was a homesick, abused 13 year old child trapped in the body of an angsty 16 year old. Season 1 Zuko might have been angsty and broody, but have you ever met a teenage boy? He never even really rebelled. I mean, sure, he did some things that Iroh frowned upon but in Zuko’s mind, he’s still a prince of his nation—banished or not—and he still holds himself to the standards of a prince. The only time that I think he truly rebels is by becoming the Blue Spirit, but even then, he had a cause for donning that mask.
The only episode that I think shows Zuko in a “bad boy” light is the 5th episode of season 3, The Beach. This is when his angst and broodiness reached an all-time high, and he constantly lashed out at Mai, Ty Lee, and Azula for no reason. The episode eventually culminated in a confrontation reminiscent of The Breakfast Club, Zuko’s honesty with himself, and a dramatic “I’m angry at myself!” line, which are all hallmarks of a bad boy character arc. However, this is just one episode out of 61 and solely focusing on one episode to analyze this guy’s character is an insult to Zuko’s redemption arc that spanned the entirety of 3 seasons.
Another reason why Zuko isn’t a bad boy is that he doesn’t do bad things to get attention. Nothing that he does is a plea for help. The “bad” things that he does aren’t bad in his mind. Capturing the Avatar is just something that he needs to do in order to get his father to love him and welcome him back home. If anything, Zuko is just a misguided person with messed up morals that were instilled in him from a very young age. Zuko has a purpose for everything that he does, and usually this purpose is his sense of righteous anger. Both times Zuko confronted Ozai and rebelled against him, Zuko knew that what his father was doing was wrong. Zuko rebelled against those Earth Kingdom soldiers in Zuko Alone because he felt like he needed to stand-up for Lee and his family. And Zuko didn’t pick a fight with Zhao just because he felt like it. He fought Zhao because that guy had personally insulted Zuko, a prince, and his honor. And Zuko could have burned Zhao at the end of that fight, but he didn’t. He already proved himself to Zhao. Zuko has compassion, and shows it to people that don’t deserve it (e.g. in the Siege of the North, Zuko tried saving Zhao from the Ocean Spirit).
And the most important reason why Zuko isn’t a bad boy is because of his redemption arc. By the end of the show, he’s developed many strong friendships and makes an effort to be open and socialize with others. He’s not afraid to share his thoughts and emotions with others. He trusts people. He’s less broody and smiles more often. He acknowledges that he’s done bad things in the past and asks for forgiveness and makes amends. Are these qualities of a bad boy? I think not.
As for Jet, I think he fits the description of a bad boy pretty well. He’s aloof, hot, and angsty. He’s quite dangerous with a pair of hook swords in his hands. He smokes cigarettes He chews on a piece of wheat to be “edgy”. He’s done questionable things like drown a village full of innocent people. He deceives people to get what he wants. He has all of the traits of any popular male protagonist from a published Wattpad “novel”.
However, I don’t consider Jet a “bad boy” because he has a specific cause for his rebellion. Most bad boys participate in petty crimes like shoplifting or vandalism just because they can. Jet? Jet rebels against the Fire Nation because he’s witnessed their destruction first-hand. He lost his parents from an attack by the Rough Rhinos, and he saw his village burn to ashes right in front of him. He actively tries to destroy a system that he thinks can only inflict pain on others. And what does he do with the people (mostly young children) that have lost their homes because of Fire Nation attacks? He takes them in and acts as a surrogate-father-of-sorts. He forms a community with these people, bonds with them, shares meals together, and secures supplies for them. He’s in charge of their well-being and makes sure that everyone is ok. And these people look up to him as a leader and a central part of their family. So Jet? A bad boy? I don’t think so.
Calling Zuko and Jet “bad boys” are terrible misrepresentations of their characters, and if you think they fall under the bad boy archetype, I would suggest a deeper look into their respective character arcs.
As a final note, I’d like to address the shipping aspect of this ask. After being in this fandom for about 3 years, I’ve seen my fair share of Zutara and Jetara fics that have played off of this bad boy/good girl dynamic. And to be completely honest, I don’t think there’s an inherent problem with liking a dynamic like that. I mean, it’s not an accurate portrayal of the characters, but I won’t discourage people from shipping something or creating fan content because they like a certain trope.

Excuse me while I get a little bit sappy. I’m probably going to dip out of tumblr for most of today - the episode airs during the afternoon over here and I need to be semi functional for the rest of the day, so I’ll watch it tonight and I want to avoid spoilers, but I just want to talk about Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD for a moment.
I didn’t watch SHIELD in the conventional way, but I’ve been a fan since almost the beginning. I was I think thirteen when I first discovered the show. Just recently moved to a new city, figuring things out, trying to make friends. It was a Sunday evening, I believe, when I walked into the living room to find Mum and Dad watching a tv show - and hey, I think I recognize that guy, wasn’t he from Avengers?
It was season 1 episode 10 the Bridge. I know because I distinctly remember the explosion and thinking ‘oh did Coulson die’ and commenting that Ward’s ded cos he got shot at (My parents informed me that he couldn’t be because he was one of the main characters.)
My brother and I joined in watching. I can’t remember exactly what had happened - I’m pretty sure Mum and Dad had seen it before, because we weren’t allowed to watch the episode with Lorelei in it since it was ‘’’unsuitable.’’’ I distinctly remember the moment I was in hook line and sinker (and possibly when I started shipping Fitzsimmons, my first OTP) - episode 13 T.R.A.C.K.S. The way it was done with all the cutting and flashbacks and mystery was AMAZING (it’s still my favourite season 1 episode I think), the Stan Lee cameo and then Skye getting shot at the end solidified to me that hey, I’m attached to these characters!
And then episode 17 rolled around and SHIELD shaped who I became. My own stories were influenced by it - a lot of the stories from when I was 14/15 and ‘’’edgy’’’ featured characters being spies, undercover, betraying the team, and looking back on it, those these were greatly inspired by Ward’s betrayal!
And then season 1 ended. I missed the show, and when on with my life. Until, I discovered a little later that season 2 had started. And my parents had been watching it. Without me.
Naturally, I was disappointed, but being the completionist i was, didn’t want to jump in halfway through the season. Plus, I thought it may be unsuitable and my parents didn’t want me to watch it.
For the next few years, I never forgot about SHIELD. I was always a fan, even though I had only really seen half a season. I would occasionally wonder if Fitz ever recovered. If Ward ever got the redemption arc I wanted him to (spoilers, he Did Not). Skye was apparently now called Daisy, and that was weird.
Then, around my 17th birthday I realized something. Season 5 was coming out soon, and apparently that was going to be the last season. And I was old enough now to have my own laptop, plus I’d watched a number of other shows.
So I binged. I sat down and rewatched season 1, relived those moments. I watched season 2 - realized Ward wasn’t going to get a redemption arch, cried when Tripp died, got angry at Simmons and watched Skye meet her parents and gain powers.
I watched season 3, screamed when Fitzsimmons kissed finally, cried again when Bobbi and Hunter left (I remember wandering downstairs in that foggy ‘a tv show made me SAD’ state and telling Mum which part I had just reached - turns out she didn’t remember much of season 3). (Frankly neither do I it’s been like 3 years since I watched it)
Then came season 4, which is still my favourite season. LMDs, Fitzsimmons angst (i mean, that’s every season though right), the Framework, Ghost Rider. The Framework is still VERY CLEARLY in my mind, even though it’s been years since I watched it.
I finished just before season 5 started, and I watched season 5 with my parents. There were many discussions of time travel while renovating my room, a few in depth conversations about paradoxes and Fitzsimmons children and how it all worked. I remember watching the last few episodes with DEEP CONCERN because I had seen Infinity War but my parents hadn’t.
Season 5 ended and I finished highschool. I moved out, and when season 6 aired, my parents didn’t end up watching it because it didn’t air in New Zealand and I found it online (they still haven’t watched it. Hurry up and put it on Disney+ pls)
I grew up with SHIELD, even though I didn’t watch it while it aired the whole way through. These characters mean so much to me.
So thank you, Agents of SHIELD.
Thank you Clark Gregg, for Phil Coulson, for being the heart of the show, for bringing the family together.
Thank you Ming-Na Wen, for Melinda May, for showing strength and how to be a strong female character who has emotions and can and will still kick your ass.
Thank you Chloe Bennet, for Daisy Johnson, for growing up with me through the show and being the character who needs her family around her.
Thank you Elizabeth Henstridge, for Jemma Simmons, who shows that a character can make mistakes and grow from them, for compassion and protectiveness.
Thank you Iain De Caestecker, for Leopold Fitz, for giving me unrealistic standards for me, for showing me that mistakes don’t define you and the darkness in you isn’t who you are.
Thank you Brett Dalton, for Grant Ward, for the character we all love to hate, for a part of my childhood.
Thank you Henry Simmons, for Alphonso Mackenzie, for a character who holds onto his faith despite all the weird crap, who is strong and compassionate, who grew into a role he never expected to have.
Thank you Natalia Cordova-Buckley, for Elena Rodriguez, for teaching me to always bounce back.
Thank you Jeff Ward, for Deke Shaw, for a character I can see myself in - the outsider, who doesn’t exactly fit in but is part of the family nonetheless.
Thank you to the cast, the crew, the writers, the directors, the producers, everyone who has been involved in this show that shaped my childhood. It feels like my childhood is dying this year, all the tv shows I watched as a early teenager are finally coming to an end. Clone Wars, now Agents of SHIELD - truely, it feels like a part of my childhood is finally leaving.
I trust the writers to give us a proper send off. I trust the actors to deliver that send off beautifully.
I don’t know what to expect tonight, but it’s going to be a ride, and I’ve glad to have been along for it!

Could people please stop shitting on YGO SEVENS
We have only seen a little trailer and got a bit of character descriptions. But that already makes a lot of ygo fans mad and they call Sevens trash, horrible, a disgrace to ygo in general - which is really stupid to me.
About the designs: Yeah, the characters look differently. I was surprised too at first but then I read that Studio Gallop isn’t working for YGO anymore and Studio Bridge is doing the job now. That probably explains why the characters don’t have the typical “ygo look” anymore. Even the cards changed their design. Sure, I will miss it and take my time to get used to it but I won’t make a fuss about it.
About the story: Can’t say much about that yet except that we know Yuga wants to change the dueling world to make it more fun with everyone and he wants to do that with his rush duels. That’s basically him saying “screw the rules, I’ll make my own” but hey, that could still turn out interesting.
About the SEVENS characters: So far, I like them all. Sure, Yuga’s haircolors remind of too many anime characters (*looks at IV*) but his personality seems fun. He also loves to invent stuff and so I can’t wait to see all of his creations. Luke gives me slight Shark-vibes which is not bad since I love Shark. Gakuto made me first think of Reiji being all serious and stuff but the trailer showing him having dorky moments made me like him. And then there’s Romin our main girl and it’s said she’s not interested in duels but I’m sure that will change later. But even with her not being a duelist, she’s a guitarist in a band which is really cool. Her personality seems like the one of a kuudere -even more than Aoi- but I think this is not bad.
Misc: Tbh, I don’t get why people think it’s that bad to have characters around 11-12 years. I was so sure anyway that after serious Vrains with its older characters, the next ygo series would probably be more light-hearted and with younger characters. (after all anime with kid characters are popular in Japan) People say that makes it not appealing for older fans but I don’t get why? Do you only watch anime about characters that are around your age? If that was the case, many people shouldn’t be able to watch Pokémon, Digimon, Yo-Kai Watch, The Promised Neverland etc. anymore. Having children as protagonists doesn’t mean the series has to be childish. Look at Digimon and tell me, all the series were childish with no serious moments and depth at all despite having characters mostly even younger than 11 years old.
The ygo anime series are aimed for kids no matter if the protagonist is 18 like Yusei or only 13 like Yuma so why are some people surprised we’re going for actual kids again? Some saying an 11yo protagonist isn’t appealing for older fans makes me wonder if they never thought of that younger fans also want characters they can relate too? Honestly, when I started watching DM I was probably around 11 or 12 years old and so, younger than Yugi and friends. Didn’t stop me enjoying DM. When I watched Zexal, I was already in my 20′s and so, way older than Yuma but didn’t stop me either enjoying Zexal.
The hatred for SEVENS really reminds me of the hatred people had back when Zexal was announced and a lot from the fandom called it immediately bad because younger characters, all colorful and apparenlty too comedic compared to mature edgy 5D’s. And I think most of us know how Zexal turned out later even with its more comedic start?
The hatred because of the changed art style is way too similar to the pkmn fandom acting shitty when SuMo anime was announced and almost everyone called Ash looking like shit compared to his “cool” looks in XYZ. (and well, there were also people bitching about SuMo being way too slice of life and comedic too) But imo, SuMo turned out to be one of the best pkmn series that could be fun but also still tackle serious topics.
One thing I don’t get either is people saying that SEVENS is responsible for Vrains ending sooner? Do we have any proof for that? So far, I just think some people hate SEVENS so much (and liked Vrains better) so they need another reason to shit on it. Personally, I think Vrains was doomed anyway because Studio Gallop having problems in general which already showed in Arc-V. And before someone thinks I dislike Vrains: Nah, I actually liked season 1 and have a couple of characters dear to me but man, the series took a nose-dive after the first half of season 2 imo. (but lemme tell you, I’m still sad we’re not getting a Vrains manga)
Long story short: it’s fine being sceptical about SEVENS, nobody has against that. But I do find it unfair to call a show trash that hasn’t even started yet. At least wait for the first episodes until you say “yeah, it’s not my cup of tea” and leave it. Don’t destroy the fun for other people who are interested in this series.

With Vrains ending I want to do some lists about protagonists, rivals and other things. This my personal list, I know some might disagree so yeah. I can rant them according to their writing perspective BUT nah, I wouldn’t
Yugi Muto;
Tumblr media
Our sweet little original protagonist, Yugi was a nerd boy who was bullied but he remained this gentle and nice boy who will help whenever you need him and be there for you.
My problem;
NOT BECAUSE OF HIS CHARACTER OFF COURSE, IT WAS HOW KONOMI PUSHED ATEM IN OUR FACE AND IGNORE YUGI.
Don’t get me wrong I like Atem “ he was one of my childhood crush” but they act as if he was the only protagonist while Yugi not!!. Astral, Ai and the three yu boys should be also had the same treatment as Atem then. If the show give me more Yugi then I would put him higher because it was hard to connect with him. “ I LOVE HIM BUT I PREFER THE OTHER MORE”
Yusei
Tumblr media
He is cool badass, great story, hard childhood everything, he just doesn’t resonate with me that much as the others did. However I will say this I am not one of those who keep calling him a “ Mary sue, Gary stu or whatever term you want to use it” just because he is good at things and his dueling records, like HE IS 17 THE OLDEST PROTAGONIST = HAS MORE EXPERIENCE WITH IT. It’s perfectly ok if you don’t like or feel related to protagonist like that 👌🏻Disliking character doesn’t equal to Mary sue😅
Tumblr media
Yuya “ my little tomato head”
Imagine your life being a lie and you’re not who you think you are ?!! Now this is messed up for 14 years old to find out you are just fragment of a person that destroy the world once before. I know from writing perspective, Yuya has the weakest among the protagonist “ due to how they handle ArcV in general” but however his personality, positive attitude and how he smile despite all that. Yuya is fun to watch and I knew it sound stupid but I wish if I have young brother like him.
Tumblr media
Yuskau “ my handsome cotton candy “
So after having someone who always smile and believe in happy life optimism. Writers decided; oh how about giving the total opposite!! Depressing, edgy, ptsd and hating or doesn’t enjoy dueling!!! Then we have ladies and gentlemen our anti-protagonist who doesn’t act like one instead he seek for revenge!! This is basically one of the many things I love about Yuskau, HE IS UNIQUE AND DIFFERENT FROM THE PREVIOUS PROTAGONISTS!! Like seriously the guy have been through a lot and I mean really really a lot. He never had his break from all this *** stuffs he had and the writers gave him the actual dark ending!m?! He is your protagonist, this guy deserves the ultimate hug😭. I love how they developed Yusaku’s character, since each protagonist has different one handle the growth differently according to their age and most importantly the theme of their shows. When characters like Judai change it was because the theme to grow up from childhood to adulthood. However Yusaku’s change was more in details that the show throw it in some scenes that you need to pay attention to see because it will be brought up in future episode. A perfect example is this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love yusaku from the bottom of my heart but the other two are higher 😭💔
Tumblr media
Yuma “ my precious baby boy”
He is 13 !!! A kid that want just to play card game and be champion!! Why let him be through things like, losing his parents, betraying, losing friend and sacrifices?! WHY?!!. Yuma is the youngest protagonist that was bad at dueling and need someone to guide him to the right way. I really can relate to Yuma a lot since there were things I love but I wasn’t good at it till I work so hard to it. It’s just fascinating how he grew from being nobody to the one that everyone believes in, how his simple words encourage ,change ppl, he earned ppl respect from that. Also how he affects Astral’s character, their argument and bonds became strong over the time. Yuma might be not the type for everyone but he was my baby boy all along
Tumblr media
Judai;
What can I say about this guy 😭
An interesting development among all the protagonists. because he start as a child who duels for fun then he grow up to discover that life is not always happy and fun.I really love him more in season 4 where he was so serious and never smile like before. especially how they show us that step by step. In the first season 1 Judai was careless and doesn't take anything seriously. and his friends was always OK of that because they are first year. In 2 season Judai meet edo who start to show us that being hero and dueling are not fun( cause what happen to him in the past). And we saw how Judai was effected after his lost against Edo. In season 3 Judai start to see how his friends being hurts because of him and as you said he killed some of them. At the end he start to feel guilty of what he did the whole time. His story was deep with an amazing massage that no matter how life can be rough and change us we must not forget the things that we enjoyed and made us happy

2019 & 2010s Best/Worst
Because I like lists and cataloguing the dumb shit I cared about. As my brother once said after seeing and reviewing NOW YOU SEE ME on a lazy Sunday, ‘Some would say it was a waste of time, others might say it was a colossal waste of time.’
I’ll admit, it’s a bit over-the-top. Particularly including the Pats, but yeah, in the Tom Brady era that started when I was 14 as a Freshman in high school to 33 years old now and wrapping up soon-ish (?), there’s not a chance in hell I’ll care as intimately about this shit. I grew up with it at just the right time.

1,2,3,4,7,8,10,11,13, and 15 for Sammy from the meta asks?
OKAY this is a long one and I’m on mobile so I can’t do a read more, sorry!! My laptop won’t connect to the internet so we goin down mobile mode
1 How did you discover your f/o’s content?: I discovered SPN through the other kids at school! My whole friend group kinda passed around things to watch and I hadn’t been interested by anything at that point (I didn’t really watch any tv or anything back then, yikes) until I heard abt this show about two brothers that hunt monsters, and I was like hell yeah that sounds rad!
2 How old were you when you discovered your f/o’s content?: I was like... either 11 or 12. I don’t remember exactly when I started it, but it’s probably more 11 leaning.
3 Describe the first time you watched your f/o’s source content: I was supposed to be doing math homework. It was 2 AM. I was sat at my old desk with my sick as hell two screen set up bc I was a sick gamer. I turned the lights out to get the full effect, and then I realized like, oh my god, I actually really like this. Also, Sam sounds cute and smart and yeah boy! But my mom wanted to watch it as well, so I had to wait to watch the rest of the series. That’s what got me through school that year was knowing I had spn to watch!
4 Who was your first favorite character when you initially got into your f/o’s source content?: the first thing I said to my mom about this show went something like, “sam is really cute and he has a nice jawline and he seems really sweet” to which my mom replied “Dean is cuter” and I established myself as the sole sam girl of the house. I reign supreme. I fall in love with Sam Win.chester with a single glance.
7 Are there any specific moments you find yourself going back to more often than others?: season 1 sam was really smiley, I like season 1 sam. Bad day at black rock from s3, ghostfacers! also s3. Season 5 gets a lot of replay bc it’s my fave!! French mistake, Frontierland (cowboy!sam au thrives), then quite a few from newer seasons! Ask Jeeves, fan fiction, about a boy, THE BABY EPISODE!!!!, thin Lizzie bc fanboy sam!!! Rock never dies has edgy band member sam and that’s. Good shit. Season 13 is dad sam and the start of season 14 is good Beard Sam Content. So, a lot of it, yes I rewatch a lot
8. Are there any moments your f/o is in that you skip?: don’t wanna spoil too much, but I skip a lot in season 8. Not necessarily bc I think a certain character is bad, but just because it didn’t feel like a good characterization choice for sam. Plus later in the season sam makes me sadddd :(((( also can’t watch 2x22 bc I’m a wuss that can’t watch him die the first time
10 If you could change one thing about your f/o’s source content, would you? What would you change?: it’s not a matter of if I’d change something, it’s narrowing it down to one thing that’s the problem... I love spn, we all know that, but I also think spn has. Many issues. Season 7 was a rough one, there are continuity errors through the whole series, but if I had to choose one thing, it’d be how they treat minorities and women. A lot of the women part is the fan base attacking any woman on the show just for breathing, but also like, the writers do minorities and women SO dirty in this show. Where is the representation
11 Do your friends/family know you’re into this content or do you keep it to yourself?: I used to be really open abt it. I’m no longer open abt it. If I end up going to a convention I’ll def post it, but I try not to talk about it to anyone. I only watch it when I’m alone and I try my best to plan my watching when I know my parents won’t walk in on it. It’s just like... one of those things that used to be cool but everyone else stopped and I’m still here enjoying it but if I’m too loud everyone will look at me weird and just- hhh. So that’s why I talk abt sam so much on here bc this is! The only place I get to even MENTION spn
13 Do you have a favorite line your f/o has ever said?: there are 14 seasons of incredible sam lines but if I had to choose one? Agh okay I’m disqualifying all soulless sam quotes bc they’re too GOOD, so other than that either “after we kill it we can go to Disneyland!” or “I’m not using this ID, it says bikini inspector on it!”
15 Do you own any merchandise from their source content?: hell yeah! I used to have a lot more but I have sam and dean funkos, a Misha funko from french mistake, a poster, a Jensen autograph and a Jared autograph I got for Xmas one year, Dean’s ring replica, a bracelet with a bunch of charms, and a replica angel blade that’s literally bigger than my arm lmao. I used to have a samulet but I think I lost it bc I wore it too much :(((( need a new one!

I was wondering if you had any ideas/headcanons for the kids of the LIs of Love and Legends?
Heyy anon! Yess I love me some head canons of my mainsss which I adore, ill try my best
Saerys
- Okay so they have twins I LOVE TWINS STORYLINES asdghejw, one boy and one girl
- They get Saerys eyes I may have a slight weakness to characters with heterochromatic eyes ;w;
- I think being born from a Demon and human one of them will be full on demon and the other will be more humanoid. Maybe this will cause conflicts due to jealousy? bUT somehow through a twin connection where one is dying or something (the angst tho) the one with the demon powers gets to share some and they conquer the world together??? IDK LET ME DREAM Lol
- MC would totally let them skip school to train and although Saerys would be resilient at first, he would let them because he loves his family and would teach them everything they needed to know to stay safe and protected.
- The girl would probably be kind of mysterious and edgy and the boy more goofy. They would be super competitive between them but protective when it comes to dangers surrounding the other.
- Twins would probably act more like parents than actual MC and Saerys which are just confused half of the time, but they would do anything for their family
- Lots of trips to Chicago, Saerys would be frustrated at how easily they grasp the concept of a smartphone when he still gets scared when the ringtone starts chiming.
August
- They probably would have a biG family, like 6 kids big lololl
- Oldest to youngest their ages would be 21 (boy), 17 (boy), 15 (girl), 10 (girl), 9 (boy) and 5 (girl)
- They would bicker, like a lot. Specially the 17 year old boy and the 15 year old girl who would totally fight for who is the best in combat and both act like alpha’s to the family lol.
- The boy who is 21 years old would be the protective one, always ensuring his siblings are okay and would totally be the mom friend tm
- 10 and 9 years old would be troublemakers and best friends, boy would be a bit shy but 10 year old girl would be a mischief kween
- 5 year old girl would grow to be the strongest in combat and lead the general army due to constantly wanting to keep up with her brothers and sisters, she would be sassy and have the best comebacks when growing up lol
- August and MC would have playfully fights on who is the best parent and their kids would just sigh and roll their eyes when they start listing all the ways they are better than the other (ending in them being all couple-y lollolol, kind of like in “Anything you can do”)
Altea
- Twin girls againnn asfkhre I am weak okay??
- They would totally swap clothes and pretend to be each other all the time
- They both get magical powers and would try to prove to each other who is the most powerful, only to be interrupted by Altea who would separate them with her magical boss self of course doing this only to prove she is the most powerful one lolol.
- MC and Altea would be such supportive parents tbh, attending all events and cheering their babiesss
- They would be d r a m a t i c and probs extroverted
- Twins would love to visit Chicago and totally find every single excuse for Altea and MC to take them. They love the fact they can lead a double secret life, teens worrying about makeup all day and epic wizards beings in secret tune in to next episode of Hannah Montana loll
Iseul
- Another big oneee, 3 boys and one girl (who would be the eldest) but the boys act like they have to protect her. Girl would be 16 years old while the boys 11, 9 and 8
- Iseul, MC and the kids would have prank competitions all the time ending in full on wars lol
- The kids would love Iseuls family and would be constantly hanging out with queen Isahara, specially the girl, which would make Iseul groan at all the family embarrassing bonding time.
- Probably super sporty family, all belonging to sport clubs in school and rivalry on to who was the best (even though the youngest one was the best by a mile because he got those archery skills from papa)
- Loaaaads of camping trips, if Girl Scouts existed in magical land, they would totally be scouts.
- The 11 year old boy would be player-ish and be on relationships since birth which MC doesn’t really approve off but Isuel be giving his boy high fives.
- 9 year old would totally take on his dads humor and laugh at the most inappropriate situations and walk into dangerous situations all the time because he can be kinda clueless leaving it up to their siblings to rescue him (never a better time to bond than in danger amaright?? lol)
Reiner
- 2 boys that are 1 year apart from each other age wise.
- Oh god Reiner would totally be that dad who makes dad jokes 24/7 and the boys and MC would just groan every-time.
- I imagine the youngest one being super gentleman-ish and the elder a troublemaker
- When it comes down to who would take Reiners position the older brother would totally give his place to his brother and go live in Chicago to lead a seemingly normal life.
- MC would be super jealous of who they date because who dares touch her bois, break their heart and ill break you, while Reiner would just calm her down with terrible puns that end up cracking a smile on her.
- They would be opposites but they got each others backs, they complement each other
Helena
- Helena and MC would have one girl and one boy that are 5 years apart from one another, the girl being the eldest.
- They would fight allll the time and would so have magical powers, kind of like a the incredibles Violet and Dash relationship.
- The girl would totally go through her emo face while the boy would embarrass her in public which would end up in bickering
- Helena would be protective m o m while MC would be lost half of the time, she would totally read a parenting book.
- Oh god but it would totally be Dash and Violet dynamic
- Also like the boy would be really curious and nosey, snooping through her stuff and teasing her for her crushes, earning a magic blast and starting small fights Helena stops with a swish of her hand.
- Although they fight all the time, they genuinely care about the other and secretly help each other out when the other is in trouble (like if the boy is being bullied and the girl notices, she would threaten the bullies making the best imitation Helena, or if the girl fell asleep in the living room, the boy would take her to her room and made sure she rested).
Alain
- They have one girl and she is Alain’s and MC’s literal world
- She would be nerdy and shy, probably smart and hates conflict
- She would be super pretty and get tons of guys after her but would be kinda clueless when it comes to love, would probably end up falling with the least expected person. Also as a side note Alain would probably threaten every boy that enters the house while MC chuckles at his jealousy over 13 year old boys
- MC and Alain would totally read bedtime stories up until she has to talk with them about how 10 years old do not need their parents reading to them anymore lol
- Alain would totally leave embarrassing little notes in her lunchbox she pretends to be annoyed about but secretly would keep because his dad is the best
- Would love going to Chicago and would laugh with MC at how clueless her dad looked and jumped at every sign of danger (which basically meant every car that passed by)
AhhHhhH I actually got so excited writing these and hopefully they give us some kids seasons soonnn

Tagged in an 11 question meme by @sakuranoshita, questions from them.
I’m terrible at coming up with new questions or with the pressures of picking 11 people mutual or not to answer them, so I’m not going to do that! But I do seriously love filling these things out, back in the day my livejournal was full of stuff like this. Please don’t try to find them haha
Favorite quote
I have never thought about quotes too much before. I looked up a top 100 list and here’s one I thought was relevant :)
“Happiness can exist only in acceptance.” - George Orwell
Guilty pleasure show?
There’s an assortment. When I just want background noise, I turn on Bones (I’m in the early seasons still, I know it romances bad later). When I want to half pay attention, I turn on The X-Files (in season 4 of my rewatch). When I want melodramatic teenage angst, I go to the CW. Gossip Girl was my go-to for awhile, slowly getting in to season 1 of Riverdale now.
Have you been abroad? If so, where? If not, where would you like to go?
Yes! I live in Canada and I’ve been to England once and Japan twice (Sapporo the first time, Osaka and Tokyo the second time), plus several USA trips for work. We’re planning a trip to the Netherlands next year hopefully as a huge family affair.
What languages do you speak?
Just English. Been trying to learn Japanese off and on for the last couple of years, I get pretty far into kanji at least and then neglect grammar, or vice versa, then get stressed and busy at work and drop it again.
Rare OTP you like?
Ummmm. This one’s hard. I mean, SeiSub is an OTP, and it’s kind of rare considering the size of the fandom now? I got into Snake (Light Field)/Junpei from 999 briefly, but subsequent games in the Zero Escape series changed that up a bit... Sydney/Hardin from Vagrant Story, Albel/Fayt from Star Ocean 3... These are all only rare from the size/age of the fandoms...
I tend not to ship anything from live action series otherwise maybe I’d be all about (almost) anything with Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.
Obscure anime/show you love and think more people should know about?
Tenshi ni Narumon! (I’m Gonna be an Angel) This is an amazing late 90’s crack-y show about a girl who just drops herself (and her found family of assorted demons & witches) into the life of this teenage boy declaring him to be her husband and that she’s gonna be an angel. It has amazing side characters, a great mid-series twist, and the romance/drama/character development and arcs are fantastic. It did get a bit of an English release, but the company doing it only ever dubbed/released the first half of the series before going out of business. Please track it down if you can!!!
Is there a book that changed how you saw the world?
As a loner Edgy Teen(TM) in Catholic school I read a lot of pagan/Wicca stuff as well as church conspiracy books, main one I remember is “The Elixir and the Stone”. Basically Proto- Dan Brown style ‘non-fiction’. I guess maybe these started my path towards atheism in a weird way? But at the same time I was never really much of a catholic it was just the closer school. (In my area Catholic school was just another public school division, Christian school was the private choice)
What would you do if you gained magic powers?
My job would be 67% less stressful if I could teleport so maybe that. I lose so so much time to hotels, highways, and airports. I know that’s lame but I’m a pragmatic old
Favorite asshole character (we’ve all got one)
Seishiro - hands down, favourite for 13+ years
The thing that makes you happiest in the world
A sense of accomplishment. And cute animals.
Fantastical world you would like to live in
I love best the kinds of magical realism I’ve only ever really seen in fan fiction, set in the modern age, but of course these characters are fae. I think that’s the kind of world I’d love. I’m super steeped in sceptical reality, but I love wishing that the paranormal is totally real.

Since you are a big fan of cartoons what are your top 10 favorite cartoons of all time? Honorable mentions can be included
Oh! Oh, cool! You seriously don’t know how cool it is that someone would care to ask, thank you!
Also, sorry for the wait. Seriously, that was excessively sucky. Life likes to get busy at inconvenient times, you know?
But dang, that’s such a hard question…
Only one way to do this right.
Tumblr media
Dammit, Anon, This is Hard
I’m not the type of person to decide on ranks (or anything) very easily, so I’ll say this: some choices were easier than others.
I should also mention a lot of these choices are very personal, and if this were a more objective list of the best shows out there, it would be totally different. I also don’t pretend to always have the best taste, these really are just my favourites that I’ve seen. Sometimes I can recognize that one show is probably objectively better than one I like, but that won’t necessarily stop me from liking something. Basically, my list, my bias.
Still, I’ll do my best to explain my choices for those of you who didn’t have the same experiences with these shows that I did. I assume you don’t live in my brain.
Honourable Mentions
Is it hard to believe that the honourable mentions section was harder to decide than the actual list?
There’s just so many shows I’ve enjoyed and I think deserve to be lauded. If you ask me, “Well, what about ____?! Where the hell was ____?!” it would probably fall in this category.
I’ll try to keep it short, though:
The Fairly Odd Parents - I don’t think you could’ve grown up in the early 2000s without encountering this show in some capacity, but I absolutely loved it growing up; I played FOP video games, I watched it every day after school, I even remember catching all the movies on TV whenever I could. It’s always had such a great sense of humour, combined with the jazzy stylistic choices that gave it that extra punch. More recent seasons aside, this one is a 2000s classic.
Over the Garden Wall - I watch this every October now. It’s absolutely spectacular. I think the only thing holding it back is sadly that it’s a miniseries—and it’s not like I would change that, the story needed to be told the way it was. But it’s become seasonal for me, so it’s a favourite but… only briefly.
Rick and Morty - Damn, I love this show. Just give it one more season and let the plot really start to kick in, it may start to climb this list
There are also plenty of shows that I think could be on here had I gotten to watch more of them, and some of those include:
Batman: The Animated Series
Danny Phantom
Sym-Bionic Titan
And here are shows I once had a bit of an obsession with that in hindsight… was a bit unwarranted (again, I never claimed to have great taste):
Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi
Yin Yang Yo!
Total Drama Island/Action
With that out of the way, onto the list!
#10. South Park
Tumblr media
What can I say about a comedy that’s antagonized censorship on TV 20 seasons? Well, for one, there are moments that genuinely reward you for caring about these characters for so long. For example, there’s a gut-punch of a two-parter, You’re Getting Old/Ass-Burgers that legitimately made fans question if the show was in danger of ending, with just how fatalistic it’s tone is.
They’ve even since made the transition from episodic to serialized season-long stories—to varying degrees of success, admittedly, but I don’t know if a show, especially one this well-established (this happened in season 18) has ever done that.
In a strange way, South Park’s a show that innovates. It quickly surpassed any other show on at the time for most edgy/boundary-pushing—to the point that its offensive humour wouldn’t be acceptable coming from anyone else but South Park (which isn’t to say I don’t understand when/if people have an issue with it, but… more on that in a sec)!
I’d also like to give special shoutout to the South Park Movie, and the recent South Park video games, the Stick of Truth and Fractured, but Whole—all three of which are jam-packed with South Park goodness.
Personal Reasons: When I was growing up this was the pinnacle in shows my mom didn’t want me to watch. And with what little of a rebellious streak I had, I took that to mean it needed my attention.
I remember watching it late at night (which just made it more scandalous!) with my brother, and separately with my best friend at the time, Daniel. We loved that kind of raunchy, crude humour! And in hindsight, like I said, I know there’s been plenty of times when they’ve made jokes in poor taste, but I don’t know. Sometimes when you make fun of everyone equally, there can be room for some less tasteful jokes. Especially when being a boundry-pusher is a big part of your identity.
As the old saying goes, “It’s South Park: what did you expect?”
#9. Clone High
Tumblr media
One of the more obscure choices on this list, but I’ve mentioned it from time to time for sure. Coming from the writing/directing team behind Lego: Batman, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and 21 Jump Street, Clone High was a short-lived 13-episode MTV comedy.
The premise was simple: clones of famous historical figures all go to high school together.
Done, simple as that.
But what makes it so funny is how it parodies the high school drama genre while still existing as it’s own story with it’s own characters. Like, every episode is always announced as a “very special episode” and even in their short run, they managed to do the Drug episode, the holiday episode, the natural disaster episode, the dramatic Death episode, the class election episode—it just doesn’t let up.
Oh, and I’d like to mention Pan Pzza/Rebel Taxi did a stellar review that goes into the history surrounding the show along with some analysis of its content, so if I piqued you’re interest at all, you can find a more in-depth review over here.
Personal Reasons: This s a show my brother introduced me to. Watching videos or playing video games with my cool older brother was always awesome, so watching a show with him as tons of fun.
#8. Moral Orel
Tumblr media
My god… this show is the absolute most brutal show I’ve ever loved. You can tell by my lists that I tend towards shows that deal with darker subjects in soft, even light-hearted ways, but this isn’t that kind of show.
Or, at least, the season that made it my 8th favourite show isn’t.
I should explain. Moral Orel was a show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim that had a total of 3 seasons (with a prequel special that came out years after the fact), and for most of the first two seasons, it’s a vastly different show than in its third season.
From the second season’s finale onward, Moral Orel becomes one of the most bleak, bitter, heart-wrenchingly real shows on TV. It’s breath-takingly bitter.
The first two seasons largely center around the main character Orel Puppington and his religious adventures in his hometown of Moralton. It started as a parody of Christian cartoons, in particular the stop-motion/claymation Davey and Goliath.
Basically, Orel would learn a lesson from an authority figure in town and misinterpret it to the extreme. It could make for some funny commentary now and again, but in truth it was nothing special. There were a few early episodes worth watching, like the Lord’s Prayer and The Best Christmas Ever, but if that’s all it had to offer, its charm would wear thin.
This, on the other hand, is no regular series.
The fact that it started out the way it did makes the reveal even more powerful. You see, those more upbeat first two seasons, where the morals are skewed and everything’s just a bit cheerier than it should be come crashing down when Orel’s father’s alcoholism is taken devastatingly seriously during a hunting trip in the two-part season finale “Nature” parts 1&2.
Nature marks a drastic turn in the series tonally. From there, the series shifts focus from just being about Orel to chronicling the lives of several members of the town in the aftermath and the days surrounding that infamous hunting trip. The third season even starts counting down each episode (Numb, for instance is 1 out of 13).
And the reason for this is that as Orel lost faith in his father in that season finale, we, along with Orel, start to see all the people in his life in a different, sometimes disturbing light.
If I’m making it out to sound a bit on the unwatchable side, I understand, you don’t always want to watch something that will bring you down like that. But to sing its praises just a bit more, the reason it struck such a chord with me is because there’s such a humanity to it. There is hope somehow, and goodness in all this messed up stuff.
Personal Reasons: I used to stay up late watching Adult Swim, or use the TV to fall asleep to. I managed to catch episodes now and again, so it hit me hard the first time I saw some of the darker or more bittersweet episodes.
#7. Steven Universe
Tumblr media
We jump from one of the harshest shows to one of the sweetest! And yeah, I was surprised this wasn’t higher, too
And maybe it could change as the series goes on, but in the meantime, wow is this a fantastic show! We’ve talked about it a number of times on FGA, but I don’t think that’s any reason to not sing it’s praises some more!
Premiering in 2013 on Cartoon Network, Steven Universe, as you probably know (because this is Tumblr), follows the titular Steven and his emotionally-driven life with the Crystal Gems, alien rebels from a far-off Homeworld.
Properly referred to as “singing and crying,” Steven Universe slowly runs the gambit from gorgeously heartbreaking to sweetly uplifting, all the while feeling like a mellow, safe, and warm place to be.
Like many people have said in many different ways, it’s a show that explores relationships. All kinds of relationships. It’s made massive strides in LGBT+ representation in kids’ shows, presenting it without the pomp and circumstance of a “very special episode.”
The gradually unfolding plot has fans like me hooked, even if the slower pace and hiatus plague can leave us hanging for quite some time.
Personal Reasons: This is yet another show that I’ve gotten watch and talk about with my girlfriend, so I think I’ll always remember it fondly for that. Fangirling.
#6. Avatar: The Last Airbender
Tumblr media
It’s what I consider to be the greatest show of all time… and it’s this far down on the list. There really is no justice in Bias Town.
One of the best purely serialized shows out on this list, Avatar is a perfect example of a simple three act story-structure. It tells a complete, satisfying story that needed no more and no less.
And in that time, it managed to find the perfect balance for everything. Rich, interesting world-building reflecting real-life cultures? Check. Fun plots that moved forward the overall story? Check. Likable complex characters that humanize the world so no one side is undeniably in the wrong? Check.
The only thing that took a while to grow on me was Avatar’s humour. Can’t explain why, but once I warmed up to it, there were episodes and moments that made me lose my shit.
It’s such a well-crafted story, and I could probably just go on and on about how well everything was developed, but sufficed to say, it would probably top my list for what’s objectively the best cartoon out there.
Personal Reasons: I’m pretty sure I’ve said this before, but I actually missed out on Avatar’s original run. I vaguely remember being interested by it, but never catching an episode in full.
Years later, I somehow stumbled across it by chance, and oh my god. Oh my god, you guys. I watched most of the second and third season in one weekend. I couldn’t stop.
#5. Spongebob Squarepants
Tumblr media
In last year’s Nostalgia Month, I fangirled a little bit about Spongegbob, and if you read any of that, you’ll know I’ve always been a huge fan. It’s one of the cornerstone series of my generation (just take a look at the Ocean Man meme that was a thing for a while—that song is buried in the credits of the Spongebob Movie, so you would have had to sit through the credits to get that reference), along with Pokemon and Fairly Odd Parents, so again, I couldn’t not have some experience with it, but I was pretty much a super fan.
And there’s kind of a reason for that. I can’t say what it’s like now, but in its early seasons, it’s humour was surprisingly intelligent and stupidly funny. There’s definitely a difference between stupid characters and a stupid show, and so long as you can see that, you’ll find a charming undersea comedy that became a household name for a reason (at least initially).
Personal Reasons: God, where to start. For one, I have a fear of fish, but I love swimming and the sea. That fear developed in second grade, ironically around the time I would’ve been the deepest in my Spongebob phase. I think it helped, actually. There’s a reason I have a random anchor as a logo.
And you know, there’s some shows that you love so much that they come to represent a part of your life. All my elementary school days and even into middle school, Spongebob was something I was an expert in. I had as much merch as I could afford to get, I watched it religiously (even the DVD boxsets), I made my first best friend that way— it just ruled my world for a long while there.
And I wouldn’t have it any other way. The nostalgia goggles are strapped on hard for this choice, but I couldn’t honestly tell you I don’t have a sincere place in my heart for it. And always will.
#4. Gravity Falls
Tumblr media
You know how the 2010s starting kicking a lot of ass for animation? I think more than anything—more than even Adventure Time (which I do love)—this is the show that represents that to me. Not because it’s dated, but in fact the opposite: because it’s a modern classic that will forever feel timeless. Something truly spectacular that we’ll always look back on and remember as ours.
Gravity Falls takes influences from all the best stuff, but makes itself unique by being incredibly inventive. Like, it really does remind me of any Matt Groening show because of it’s sense of humour and even a bit of the world-building, but the mystery and heart are so magnificently its own. These things are the backbone that take the the already stellar comedy to a whole other level.
The best word for it is just as I said: magnificent.
From beginning to end, it’s undeniably so. It rewards close-viewings and theory-makers ten-fold, and that detail-orientated approach makes the experience that much richer and more, well, rewarding.
You knew it was coming, but hell, I can’t deny a show that succeeds in doing so many things I love so, so well.
Personal Reasons: I’ll never forget the experience of watching Not What He Seems for the first few times, or really, a lot of the episodes. Watching the fandom come up with theories about the Stan twins a season in advance, and then seeing those theories made reality in the most spectacular, theatrical episode of the television I’ve ever watched blew me the fuck away.
And getting to talk about it here and with LittleNightwing just made it more of an interactive experience, which is exactly the kind of thing Alex Hirsch wanted.
I know I’ve said this too many times by now, but I even wrote part of an episode for Gravity Falls: Deep Woods (a storyboarded fan-series inspired by the show). When episode three eventually comes out, if they haven’t cut it out for time constraints, my name will be in the credits. And having my name associated with anything related to this show is just an honour.
#3. Futurama
Tumblr media
I don’t even know what I can say about Futurama that hasn’t already been said, but whatever, I’m gonna try because I have to include it.
It started airing back in 1999, which was appropriate, because the series starts us out by travelling to the year 2999 on New Years, entering into the new millennium as we enter into this new series. And from there, this lovable portrayal of a future that somehow seems not too far from our present day becomes awesome.
Everything is a little crappy. That’s not a diss on the show, it’s just the reality of the year 3000. It’s not some dystopia, but it’s no utopia, either. It comes with all the problems and foibles of modern day, just with different technology, space travel, and alien races.
And don’t get me started on how inventive it can be. The writers staff behind that show is one of the most educated on television—quite literally, with “three Ph.D.s, seven masters degrees, and cumulatively had more than 50 years at Harvard.”
And they put all that to use to make sure the science behind that sci-fi could work. In fact, they not only created their own alien language for the show, but writer Ken Keeler devised an entirely new math equation to resolve a plot point for the episode “Prisoner of Benda.” In the field, it’s referred to as the Futurama theorem or the Keeler theorem, and has since inspired research.
So when I say next level nerdy, I mean next level nerdy.
Futurama uses this incredible scientific and mathematical power to parody the sci-fi genre with a great sense of humour and a Simpsonian sense of heart. Pretty much all of the main cast has at least one tear-jerker episode, but none so powerful as the infamous Jurrasic Bark, an episode dedicated to telling the story of our main character, Phillip J. Fry, and his dog Seymour. It will tear you apart.
Personal Reasons: This is yet another series I grew up with, and I think it taught me a lot about storytelling. Episodes like Luck of the Fryrish, The Sting, or the aforementioned Jurrasic Bark end on a incredibly bittersweet note, and to really earn that, the writers build it up expertly.
There’s also episodes like the Emmy-winning Roswell that Ends Well that take these wacky sci-fi concept to insane new levels. Whether or not I can execute on that, it taught me to always push an idea further.
Plus, I followed the series from it’s original run to it’s first cancellation to the four straight-to-DVD movies (that I ADORED renting from Blockbuster) to it’s return and final ending in 2013. It’s been one hell of a ride.
#2. The Simpsons
Tumblr media
And at this point, you probably know the whole list. But let’s go through it anyway.
The Simpsons, for me, really is one of the most brilliantly stupid comedies out there. It seems there are a number of comedies on this list that could be written off as just brainless, but I think there’s a charm to that for me. Something that clearly doesn’t take itself too seriously when it doesn’t have to. The Simpsons, in that way, has always been rather inviting to me.
Despite it’s now nearly 30 year run, it never seems to have an ego about itself, even when some consider it the greatest comedy of all time (me).
There’s an endless amount of hilariously quotable episodes, and like any good comedy, it doesn’t skimp out of the character development or sentimentality. It’s certainly lost it’s touch for the most part, as is the case with a lot of running series, but every now and again, even in the later seasons, it still manages to surprise.
I couldn’t explain it’s legacy if I tried. It’s currently the longest running animated series, and at this point, seems to have outlived the entire era it was so adept at parodying, but it’s still so legendary I can’t fault it! Even the impossible finally does happen and the show takes its final bow, I know this funny family will keep me laughing for years to come.
Personal Reasons: This started as another show my mom didn’t want me to want, but the reason I got to watch it so much and maybe the reason I love it so much is because my dad loved it.
From that point on, I started collecting the DVD boxsets of every season I could, and enjoying all the early seasons I was too young to watch when they originally aired.
And watching Simpsons reruns in whatever capacity I could became tradition. I still do to this day, even if it’s just online now. It’s become sort of a comfort show, it’s that familiar to me.
Plus, there’s the Movie, and games (The Simpsons Hit and Run is so much better than it has any right to be)—I even wrote an essay on The Simpsons back in high school.
It’s just been the huge, life-long love for me that will never truly end because of how much it shaped me as a person (as silly as that sounds).
#1. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Tumblr media
Shock! Awe! Everyone is stunned! People never would’ve seen this coming if they know me…
Alright, so I’m predictable (I prefer the term “reliable” but considering how long it took to get this list out…), but it’s strangely so well-suited to everything I love. This entire section is full of personal reasons.
There’s fantastic characters to love (and obsess over); a heart-warming, light-hearted, cute, and ultimately loving tone that’s inexplicably never too saccharine even when it by all means should be; a fascinating fantasy world to dive into; a remarkable at times Disney-esque musical element; an eye-pleasingly soft animation style; an unashamed love of puns—I mean I could actually go on about this for a full year.
I really, really could… over on my main blog (sorry for the self-promo, but it’s relevant).
Year of the Pony, MLP Editorials (which are a big part of YotP)
I’ve dedicated this entire year to talking about My Little Pony in an event I’m calling Year of the Pony. There’s so far been something pretty much every week, themes for every month—I love this show a lot you guys. I really, really do.
That really is the reason I’m doing this event. I’ve been a fan of this show for five, going on six years, and it somehow became my favourite show of all time, even when there are shows out there that I think are objectively better. I’m trying to dissect why that is bit by bit.
For instance, here’s an upcoming two-parter:
Tumblr media
These two characters are sisters, and long story short, one was forced to send the other to the moon. This was a story that introduced the series in the first two episodes, and has since been explored by the fandom in every way imaginable. So I have to ask questions that’ll give me a way to talk about how much and why I love this particular story element.
It’s not the greatest tragedy out there, sure, but I’ve seriously gotta figure out why this has struck such a chord with me, you know?
Obnoxious self-promos aside, I really did fall and fall hard for this series I think because it was still unassuming by the time I got to it. The was a fandom, sure, but I didn’t know what to expect (whether these “bronies” were just using it for memes and liking it ironically or what), and that made it a genuine discovery for me.
And it’s that very unassuming, unpretentious sweetness that continues to make me love it, even though it’s made a few mistakes along the way. I don’t think it’s a perfect series, but it’s definitely perfect for me. And what more could I ask for in a favourite show?
But that’s just my list. Feel free to tell my some of your favourites or take up the challenge to put out your own list and send it my way! Show me how much better your taste is than mine!

im going to do the 30 day neopet challenge but im going to do it in one post under a readmore bc i will almost certainly forget it within the first week if i do it the proper way, i don’t think anyone is going to care about my responses in particular and i don’t want to spam people daily, and most importantly: im super bored right now
Day 01: When did you start playing Neopets and how old is your current account?
my first account got purged but i saved the date that i created it. i had my 14 year neopets anniversary last month WOW!!! my current account will turn 11 in may.
Day 02: How did you find out about Neopets?
i think my brother made a neopets account when he was like 10ish, he didn’t get super into it but my dad also made an account and got really involved with the site!! i was like 6 or 7 and i just really liked poogle solitaire (rip). i don’t think i actually knew how to play but it amused me and my dad let me continue playing because he got stuff for it. but eventually i guess he got sick of me being on my account and made one for me. my first username was bleubaby_72, which is named after a doll i had as a much younger child (Blue Baby, misspelled) and i don’t think the 72 means anything. my first pet was a yellow aisha whose name i don’t remember... my dream pet was a desert aisha (would still die for a UC desert aisha, i wouldn’t say theyre my fave but THE SENTIMENTAL VALUE.......)
Day 03: Favourite Neopets species?
i love boris! and yurbles recently shot up my list of fave pets, but i don’t like a lot of their colors. i generally prefer neopets that are mammalian (but not as a rule necessarily) and have features of real animals but can’t necessarily be pinpointed as a certain real species. like, aishas and wockies are cats, gelerts and lupes are dogs, grarrls are tyrannosaurus rex, elephantes are duh. and thats fine and good i still like a lot of those species! but yurbles for example have that hedgehog/bear thing going on but they also have their weird spiral ears and neck ruff. and thats my favorite thing.
i also really like unis because i’ve been a horse girl since childhood n never grew out of it, and they have great colors. and aishas were my first fave and will always be one of my favorites. so i can appreciate pets that can more easily be represented by 1 animal.
Day 04: How many pets do you own and which is your favourite?
ummmmmm 14 i think? there might be a few other pets rotting on sides that i kinda forgot about, i’m too lazy to check. Abbur is my favorite, he’s my pink bori baby boy and i just care about him with all my heart. i really like his customization and none of my pets have any real “stories” or anything but most of them have vague personalities and histories and his is more developed than any of my other pets. Alabryss is another fave, i’ve had him for FOREVER and he’s always been a uni but he’s gone thru a billion color changes. he’s royal now and will almost definitely be royal for the rest of his life. his name is a misspelling of the petpet Alabriss (i think i made him 1 day after they were released) which i didn’t totally do on purpose.. like obviously i got the name from the petpet but i didn’t realize until a while later that i had subconsciously used it. anyway i’m not complaining, i still love him and he has an alabriss petpet named yuni
Day 05: Favourite Paint Brush colour?
OHH HBOY that’s hard!!! off the top of my head w/o looking through colors or anything i like royal and desert bc they’re generally more Elaborate w/ the clothes options and stuff. but i also have a big appreciation for cheap colors like cloud and ghost.. they look good on almost every pet imo. i like starry a lot too, big obnoxious iconic neopets stars. i especially like when starry pets have orange accents.
Day 06: Favourite Labray only colour?
is robot labray only? robot is cool. i guess there’s the robot zapper thing from the dr sloth plot forever ago but does that count?? i think chocolate would be my next choice. i can’t even remember all the labray only colors
Day 07: Favourite Petpet species?
this is so hard!!! i’ve always loved petpets SOO much. i’ve recently started to have a big appreciation for the super like.. generic, classic petpets.. like the kinds youd find in the neopia central petpet shop. they have a certain charm to them and i love them. i’ve always liked crokabeks a lot, theyre sooooo square shaped!! square crows! gruslen & doglefox were my faves as a kid.
Day 08: Favourite Petpet colour?
birthday is rly cute
Day 09: Favourite Petpetpet species?
uhhhhh i don’t know all the petpetpets and never had THAT much of an interest in them. what’s the one that looks like a praying mantis??? i’ve always liked those
ok wait i just looked up a list and petpetpets can be p cute actually. i still like the praying mantis dude, moach, but i also love: cooty, fleaf, lightmite, and zytch. i don’t tend to like art of petpetpets in games and stuff but they’re cute in their regular images.. theyre so small......
Day 10: Favorite Neopian world?
UHHHHHHH since i was a kid i’ve always liked: faerieland, lost desert, and mystery island.
Day 11: Which team do you pick for the Altador Cup and why?
always darigan citadel. i don’t really know why i picked it my first year... i was never like an Edgy Goth Kid or anything. they got 2nd place the first year and i thought that was awesome, and i had also gotten involved with a really fun DC chat group so i joined them again the next year. then they won and that was awesome!! other people in the chat group started joining other teams and there was no reason it needed to be a DC only group (it was called the 30 trillionaires... our “goal” every year was to collectively make it to 30 trillion goals during the season. which is impossible but idk that was what made it kind of fun i guess.. it was just casual yooyuball grinding and chatting with friends lol) so i wasn’t “stuck” with the team but even after they stopped doing so well i stuck with them out of loyalty. i used to be SUPER into the altador cup but i lost touch w/ the chat group and never got into it again
Day 12: Favourite Avatar?
ANOTHER HARD QUESTION!! i’ve always LOVED the bon appetite kelp one.. which i still don’t have. generally i prefer the “older” style of avatars where they were simpler, mostly animated but in a simple way and a lot of the time w/ pixel art elements. i feel like a lot of newer avatars have a way heavier focus on animation, like theyre just lil gifs, they lost a lot of that simplicity. i also tend to be biased toward avatars that have odd shapes rather than just being squares. like gloomy and jazzmosis and taelia. even the circle ones that still have regular borders are pleasing to me
Day 13: Which chat boards do you usually chat in?
i don’t use the boards much... i lurk newbie chat a lot and sometimes try to get involved and talk w/ people but i never keep it up. i was an avatar chat girl as a kid and that’s still the place i feel the most comfortable i guess.
Day 14: Are you in a guild?
nope! i LOOOOOVED guilds and 10 year old me would be so upset to find out that i’m not involved in the Guild Life anyway. imo it’d be really cool if guilds got a rehaul.
Day 15: Favourite Faerie?
mira is my girl.. i like the battle faerie a lot too but i can’t remember her name.
Day 16: Do you have a gallery and does it have a theme?
i have one created but i don’t even know what’s in there, i don’t pay much attention to it. i think i just have a few plushies and petpets and random items i thought were cute or charming. i like the idea of one day having a guild with a cool theme.
Day 17: Do you use the Battledome?
not really. i have my dad’s old account now with a super super powerful battle pet (he was Famous in the BD and i think for a while his pet was one of the most powerful pets on the whole site) so i guess i should take advantage of that but i don’t
Day 18: Do you use the NC Mall?
nah... i use the free NC when i get it, usually. i think i have some accrued on a few different accounts that i just don’t use. it’s kind of a pain in the ass to worry about NC items in customizations on diff side accounts.
Day 19: Favourite shop to shop at?
i rarely even look at neopets shops lol. when i was younger i really liked the faerieland petpet shop. that’s all i got for u
Day 20: Favourite game?
i feel obligated to say spinacles bc it’s my blog title but i don’t even like spinacles, i’m just good at it and there were a good few months when i got a good number of people who aren’t normally super into neopets obsessed w/ beating my score and it Amused me. i’m not even like a spinacles Master but i do know how to get gold Very easily. anyway uhhh i think let it slide is fun and i’m fairly good at it but i hate playing it for np because it feels like it takes forever and it gets boring. i feel the same way about assignment 51 which i also like the Aesthetic of a lot. i have a love/hate relationship with ultimate bullseye II
Day 21: How many items are currently in your Safety Deposit Box?
Items: 1,900 | Qty: 2,828
Day 22: Whats the most amount of Neopoints you’ve ever had at one time?
i hit 8mil recently and then spent some of it on a royal pb. i had planned on going for 10mil before spending any (so i can get that sweet bank account upgrade) but i got impatient.
Day 23: Do you use the Stock Market?
occasionally. i don’t check it every day but i have a decent portfolio
Day 24: Favourite Daily (ex. Coltzan’s Shrine, Tombola, etc.)?
i kinda like the discarded blue grundo plushie or w/e in faerieland. i don’t know his whole stupid name but i remember when he was just a tiny pixel in faerieland that didn’t do anything, so it’s cute that he’s a daily now and gets visited by people more often.
Day 25: Do you decorate your Neohome(s)?
not at all
Day 26: What is a Paint Brush colour TNT should release next?
honestly why dont they just make pet pb colors out of colors that are currently petpet exclusive? birthday and valentine? fuckin.. picnic might be harder to execute but it’s out there and it’s a fun one.
Day 27: Favourite hero? Favourite Villian?
i’m not as educated about neopets lore as i’d like to be i think..... i like nabile, shes a hero right?? and i’ve always like balthazar. he’s a piece of shit.
Day 28: Favourite plot or site event?
my biggest regret is not being more involved in plots as a kid :( i read the comics but didnt participate. i really liked the LDP comic and wish i’d been part of the actual puzzles and stuff.
Day 29: Are there certain items you collect?
i kind of collect cute petpets, i love them and don’t usually get rid of them once i acquire them. same with cute plushies. also i like the poorly drawn items from the “artists day off” days, smelly jelly is one of my faves i think
Day 30: Why do you like Neopets?
there’s... so much to do!!!! like yeah the site is dying and jumpstart is digging its own grave and sooo many parts of the site are dead or broken or whatever but there’s still just, always a new goal to strive toward and a new thing to get into and i think that’s cool.
