actually thats why ive been censoring swears in comics lately because the tmnt fandom comes across to me as a little young...IDK I've had MULTIPLE people ask me what "sodomize" means because of the joke in this post and I'm like... I Cannot be the one to explain this to you. you have to look it up on your own klfsdhsdg like i wouldn't be doing this if i were doing a comic for mgs or even homestuck wherein the characters textually swear constantly LOL but sometimes u gotta change tacks depending on the faces u see in the crowd yknow.

i HAVE been thinking abt drawing nsfw of sunspot/richard rider/kobak from x-men red just because that comic seemed to be really asking for it. who knows.. if the need rly arises maybe my separate account policy will change.

its rly more a matter of the fact that i havent read/watched much of any other iterations... im sure id like most lol. I like most things related to my interests regardless of quality. i rly like the marvel ultimate alliance games for instance. sometimes seeing my fave guy is enough he doesnt have to be well written LOL. i dont exactly have a wealth of free time tho thats the real impediment.

i did watch the 2007 movie on new years eve and found it quite charming overall. and i have read about 30-40 issues between the mirage and idw comics. still feels like im barely scratching the surface but i liked em. i rly want to read all the sophie campbell stuff bc i think her work is interesting. jason aaron will be a mixed bag i think lmao. i say as the worlds biggest Wolverine and the X-Men (2011) fan.

hmm this is kinda hard bc i feel like i naturally draw very loose and the hard part for me is tightening it up. maybe some suggestions tho...

1) hand excercises. i think its easy to forget this when many artists sit in front of the computer all day but drawing is a physical activity u do with ur actual...bodys...muscles lol. if u feel urself tightening up it might help to strech (any google search for "artist hand excercises" should yield good results) or do a page of loose practice strokes like..big circles. long lines. scribbles. that kinda thing. whatever feels good for ur hand. this is also just good to do as a general warm up before u sit down for any drawing sesh.

2) draw further away from the canvas. as a general rule...when ur painting traditionally you do the big strokes with your whole arm outstreched and a long handled brush. and when you do the details its smaller wrist movements and a shorter handled brush. so it might help to take a step back or push back from ur chair a little.. or hold ur tablet a little further away. and hold your pen further away from the nib.

3) change mediums / brush types. some brushes and mediums are more suited to loose sketching and some more inclined towards detail work. so changing ur tool could help. also! i personally have this problem where sometimes if im using a brush i feel really familiar with the pressure to make a "good" "finished" "perfect" drawing is greater... if i want to force myself to loosen up ill switch to a tool i dont use as often so it feels like the pressure is off. a lot of times for me this is switching from digital to traditional. but sometimes its switching from a small pen to a big marker. or a smooth pen to a textured one. or a nice brush to a shitty dried up marker.

but also every body is different so i dont think these tips will work for everyone. u should listen to what ur body and mind tell u and how drawing feels to you

bro just sign up and set it up i dont think theres much to it... i dont rly think too much abt my itch.io store because its digital goods so u just upload the file and let it do its thing. no distribution work needed on ur part. youll notice i barely even advertise my itch unless i have smth new on there lol.. its easy. but good luck!!!

well. scott mcclouds understanding comics and making comics are good books on the craft. i think i had to buy them for a class in art school once.

other than that idk just keep at it. comics are really laborious i think for a lot of people the hardest part is sitting down and doing it.

i think a lot of people have a very instinctive understanding of how to read comics and what they look like so whatever you think seems like good way to tell the story you have in mind, its probably right. if u get stuck, study comics that have done something similar. most people in comics are relatively self taught and actually it can be problematic bc you can tell when a lot of comic artists are all copying the same like 5 old white guys LMAO. but on the flip side if you make sure to reference and study broadly your comics will almost assuredly feel unique.

sorry im responding to this anyways. this is just a really nice ask. i like when people reference my older work bc i feel like sometimes theyre subtly implying it wasnt very good LMAOOO. but its true! at least compared to the work i make now ^^ and the fact that im still making art is whats keeping me from being embarassed abt how much of my old art just floats around online lmao im never ashamed to be growing and learning. isnt that a nice thought <3

people just genuinely cant stand seeing trans hcs of characters that go against their canon genders. like no matter how much sense june & dove make people will still foam at the mouth and go ‘i cant see it! it doesnt make aaaaany sense to me! i’ because its more comfortable for people to headcanon characters as trans that fit with their canon gender because people would rather have perfectly cis passing characters that come out the womb fully transitioned and completely secure in their gender identity than for them to have to see trans people putting their real experiences on characters they relate to. like tmasc dave strider never made any sense to me because as you said it feels odd that he would struggle with bisexuality but be basically fully transitioned at age 13 with no internal struggles or anything like that (among other reasons) but its easier for people just to have headcanons without baggage. and like yeah sure its completely fine to headcanon a character in a non messy way cus durr headcanons are personal however it seems that all these people go crazy and make it everybodys problem whenever they see someone elses personal interpretation of the character as being pretransition in canon. i see it sometimes the other way (like people that hc jane as transfem) but at least in the homestuck fandom its literally almost always people starting arguments about when people hc canon dudes as transfem eggs. its like this horrible blend of transmisogyny with people also being uncomfortable with realistic messy trans interpretations and it like permeates every fandom environment its so awful . if i had a quid for every time i’ve seen people saying ‘im fine with trans headcanons but i just dont get why people head canon characters as the opposite gender, its so dumb!’ id be a billionaire

I'm answering this late but soooo true. I think transfem Jane is the same level of confusing as transmasc Dave it just isnt as popular a headcanon, and it's usually not someone's absolute favorite. It's so nothing. And yeah people are really resistant to any kind of egg headcanons for no good reason. im putting it under the cut bc it turned out kinda long and into a rant, and also to warn i mention the themes suggested in the ask (incest, age gaps)

basically it's no secret that in japanese media, incest and age gaps are widely normalized even today so just imagine in 2013 when kagepro was at its peak.

back then, kido and kano specifically were a WIDELY popular ship. here's the thing with the weird kano and kido (and seto too but mainly kano and kido) shipping, aside from what i said abt normalized incest and shit. kano and kido (and seto) being siblings is actually... sort of a spoiler? it's not revealed early on.

kano and kido are presented as 2 kids the same age living together and having different names. and they purposefully stop acting like siblings. SO it doesnt register until you get into their backstories. they're both adopted into the same family when theyre like... 7 or 8, and were friends before becoming siblings so people were able to use this excuse: "OHHH THEYRE MORE CHILDHOOD FRIENDS"

but like..... they live together as siblings for YEARS and to be honest im sure 99% of people watch the song mvs FIRST which u can binge in 1 afternoon and if ur watching with any sort of actual interest and attention, you WILL see kano and kido as part of the tateyama family in ayano's theory of happiness. not to mention the anime came out in 2014 which im also sure 99% of kagepro fans have seen. so to me that was always an excuse if it came from a very dedicated fan though i do understand it if it's from a casual enjoyer, like they truly didn't catch that they're siblings

when i joined the fandom i was 13, didnt know eng or japanese, and thought mekatrio childhood friends made total sense for some good 6 months into the fandom until I realised properly. a few months ago, i discovered a very close friend of mine had a kagepro phase in 2014 or something and told me he really shipped kano and kido and when i told him they're siblings he was like WHAT!!!!!!!

and another thing abt kano and kido. they're indubitably the queerest characters. THEY LOOK THE FUCKING GAYEST. there is Something abt pushing the gay characters together?? kido is constantly mistaked for a guy. kano the poor thing had ANOTHER popular ship going for him with ayano because people decided he is that way to shintaro because he actually had a crush on ayano. yeah. this was the fucking consensus with kano, shintaro and ayano. like i mentioned i DONT KNOW japanese and only ever read the translations of the novels and i also dont Know what jin was thinking when writing kano and shintaro. But. dear lord it reads fucking homosexual my dude. jin does this by accident a lot though. look at kido and momo. momo calling kido beautiful 1000 times but she's like Well as a woman i am jealous i wish i was that pretty. bruuuh ok anyways moving on Ill GET to jin again in a second.

like you said, semi official stuff like the anthologies are very heavy on this ship and also.... sorry, the manga which is an official media. is Heavily into this ship. for jin's stance on it, i am not sure. i do think he laughs it off but he NEVER intended to write them that way. in the seventh novel theres a whole bit where kido's telling kano you shouldve never hidden this from me im your sister we are family. even shintaro who is the pov ur reading from is like wow what a nice brother and sister AND THATS THE SECOND TO LAST NOVEL WHICH BY THEN THE SHIP WAS SUPER POPULAR SO TO ME THAT WAS JIN'S WAY OF REMINDING EVERYONE THEYRE SIBLINGS. personally i think jin truthfully intended to write kano and kido as siblings but doesnt care people ship them otherwise he wouldnt have had the manga written by someone who shipped them

so basically what happened. kagepro was confusing and people sometimes missed they are siblings. in japanese media its super normalized. it is 2013 so here it is also normalized in fandom spaces. fanart ensues, even official or semi official content teases it, and yeah. boom its popular

another big part of it was, EVERYONE GETS A PARTNER!!!! kagepro content has A LOT of Shipping Pieces if that makes sense. idk what to call it but like god, pixiv entries with 1 shinaya, 1 harutaka, 1 setomary.... and 1 hibiya and momo and 1 kano and kido. god awful. if any golden year kagepro fans follow me they will KNOW what im talking about.

now that i mentioned it. hibiya and momo. ough. idk man. people were properly weird with this one. because with kano and kido they at least made up a damn excuse. with hibiya and momo there was nothing. but the thing is, jin is entirely to blame here. absolutely fucking disgusting bro. unlike with kano and kido, with hibiya and momo he actively wrote it. in the third novel their chapters together or any of hibiya's chapters are actual fucking torture to read. i wont go into details if u havent read it but like there are Reasons i never recommend kagepro to people.

its good to give jin proper respect he IS the creator of my favorite characters ever in the whole wide world and the writer of the story that makes me the happiest ever in the history of life. but. that doesn't mean i dont hold him accountable for being weird as hell in his writing because he absolutely is

funny thing happened this week!! so on sunday, we were with our extended family for easter. we have a 13yo cousin who looks up to us [or ig our singletsona lolol] a lot. she's sweet but bcs of her parents and stuff she's vv sheltered. anyway she'd been sitting with me [the host btw] for like 20 minutes and we'd been chatting and then she asked me "what's dissociative identity disorder?" TOTALLY OUTTA THE BLUE. and ive never brought up cdds around my extended family!! id assume that she saw it mentioned while looking at fandom stuff online, but then her family's computer settings locked things down when she tried to look into it?? anyway i gave her a quick explanation, and then a few minutes later she asks me "so what's it called when you hear voices in your head?"

...so basically i think my cousin has a chance of being a system LOL???? like not to armchair diagnose or anything but its def likely lol considering that she also was diagnosed w adhd [which masked our did memory issues for a while] and the aforementioned conversation. she literally said her voices had their own names and one of them was a demon guy?? like. i dont think this is neurotypical behavior HAHAHA

even funnier bcs the very next day, an online friends of ours [who i kinda see as a little sibling lol] came to us and talked about the possibility of them being a system? which is smth we've discussed b4 but they brushed it off as other mental stuff previously. but then yesterday they were like "yeah i think im a system"

I don't want to be an ass or sound assholish and I know you more and likely mean it in a light-hearted and fun way, but I will fold over Ouroboros style if I don't say what's causing me some issues while reading this post.

The amount of "lol" and the laughing rubs me the wrong way a bit because your 13-year-old cousin and a friend from overseas might have a CDD to help cope with trauma. I don't see it as something to laugh over in a light-hearted way and I want to warn you that some people will take it the wrong way than what you originally meant it to be.

I'm not trying to sound like I'm attacking you or anything, but, please, make sure that you're able to explain what you mean or potential tones so things like this don't happen or get misconstrued.

Beyond that, it could be a possibility but it's also better to not armchair diagnose and tell them they do or don't have it. That's something that they can figure out with a therapist, professional, or later on (especially with there being a lot of things that can affect teenagers).

It's not lame, but just keep this in mind for the future. Again, not trying to sound like an ass or that I'm coming after you, just be wary.

So, let's time travel WAY back to 2014. During my senior year of high school, I was what you'd call an orchestra kid. Cringe doesn't defy how weird we were back then. Y'all orchestra kids got it easy now and not be ostracized by the other students.

Now you know my past. Time for the nit and griddy of this post. You see, I was a very cringy fan girl. I shipped whatever I wanted, and loved villains with it now being problematic in fandoms to not love anyone problematic. I yandere laughed to spook people at lunch.

I was into Sherlock, Doctor Who, Hetalia the works! All those Tumblr shit in 2013-15. I was neck deep into those fandoms. Also mind you i didn't get a Tumblr until '15 but I degress.

The point is, online during 13-15 was the glory days of fandoms. Ship wars were ironic with no malicious implications, you can make posts of your favorite celebrity and enjoy their works. Slash fics were called lemons. Anime was becoming more mainstream. The hottest men in Hollywood who were the kindest men alive happened!

I remember those days...less on finding dirt on celebrities and getting them canceled. The weeb community had no infighting on what's the best anime. How we consumed media is now changed to, better observe it like an essay and not for entertainment.

Hell back during this time period. The idea of being LGBTQ+ was a huge monumental thing in the US. Lady Gaga showed every young person in this era to love themselves and to cherish it. Gay marriage was becoming legal in all 50 states. We were proud of being who we are because everyone of the people who were superficial started to see us be happy with our bodies and our lives.

So what happened? In my honest opinion. Not paying attention to the other side. The gross Republicans. Yes. Them. Hear me out, once 2016 hit and we were getting orange man as president, it didn't get worse......and it did.

It got much MUCH worse! Now we have actual neo nazis and TERFS infiltrating groups to radicalize the boomers and gen x'ers into taking on a more violent approach. Racism has never been higher. Women are no longer safe. The government literally hates the poor. Towns actively use religion for hatred towards LGBTQ people. Healthcare is impossible. I can go on.

All because we were having a good time online and enjoying our time, oblivious to the world around us. If we were woke back then, we might of had Hilary as president but we didn't. We had anit sjw channels at its peak that influenced how we spoke. Trump literally used memes to get into the white house.

Now aways the new generation of us dont realize how much danger we are in. This is the "cringe crowd". The outcasts. The neruodivergant community to influence fandoms. We have anti shippers that go online and fantasize killing pro shippers...why are they not on an FBI watch list? Incels should be on the FBI watch list but whatever.

AND WERE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE ICEBERG!

And it'll get worse over time because young people under the age of 22 don't know how to communicate with millennials over the age of 25 who are also neruodivergant. We were online playing video games while we ignored boomers who talked shit about us and it worked. Now they have to put up with politicians in office who want to remove our rights.

All I'm saying here is sure we're generation fucked, yelling online about how a character is problematic and it affects real life. Their anger is directed at another person on the other side of the screen thinking it's activism.

Being woke is not activism.

It just means you see the bigger picture.

It's ok to argue online with strangers. Idgaf. Its the internet. What I do give a fuck is when your actions caused a person to be admitted into the hospital. Because of fiction.

We're humans, were a bored af species. We wanna complain, we wanna cause havoc. It's what we are! We watch the same shows because no other shows peck our interests. Play the same game because it brings you joy after a stressful day at work. We read fan fiction to escape our horrible reality.

Fiction IS our reality. It's human nature to be affected by fiction and influence us. It's been that way for centuries hell even before mankind knew how to fucking read. Why do we use entertainment? It's to escape the harsh real world.

So to the people who have the notp, or proship dni in your carrd or bio. You're not making a statement. You're not being inclusive. You're alienating people who wanna be your friend online. There's so much to being proship and pro fiction! Not just. Pr0sHiPrs pèedos ewww.

Most of us are normal average people who ship and don't harass people over it. Hell some of us dont ship anything problematic!

continuing my last liveblog, this time focused on the characters.

-vriska is. amazing. she is THE CHARACTER EVER. i enjoy her a lot but when it comes to morality, she's... i dont know what to make of her. like, from all the fandom drama i heard secondhand, she was made to be this mass murderer. like yeah, she is responsible to a lot of fuckups in plot, she is ableist to tavros and used aradia's boyfriend sollux to kill her, and sabotaged jade's attempt to get into the game but i think at her core, she's just a 13 year old bully. if she was in a normal human environment, raised by an ordinary family, at worst, she'd be the kind of girls who spread mean rumors of the outcast kids at school. still bad but, garden variety shittiness that can be fixed with age and growth. its the condition she's in that drove her into such terribleness. alternia let kids kill and maim each other, eliminate people who defy the law and customs. its a tyrannical empire and of course the kids produced in that kind of environment are vicious to each other. its not wrong the other kids dont want nothing to do with her and seeing her gets her shit kicked by aradia was cathartic but. man, i still feel very sympathetic to her.

-also, poor tavros. im waiting for the scene where he gets to kick the shit out of vriska like aradia but alas. its nice that he and vriska seems to get on better terms later on. i have to admit, vriska taking the time to dress up and set the mood to kiss tavros is kind of endearing while also being yikes what the fucking fuck my guy. but anyway, tavros being disabled as only a fodder for stair jokes, and then getting his legs forcibly replaced when the wheelchair jokes gets old, and then making him the butt of the joke again, good god. i want tavros's narrative arc to be treated more seriously. andrew hussie you are an ableist piece of shit you know that right?

-and kanaya! its so interesting how space aspects players are all very aesthetic-minded. they always have the cool pretty stuff. also she had a crush on rose isnt she? the way she admired her gamefaqs playthrough guide reminds of that tumblr fairytale where cinderella reads aurora's diary and fell in love. haha! right after i have that suspicions, i check tumblr to see if theyre a popular ship and apparently theyre also canon? cool. its so nice to be proven right. theyre both unhinged weird girls but in a very subdued way. also, i think karkat have been underestimating how much she helped on cooling down the group's animosities. not just between tavros and vriska, but eridan and feferi too, to an extent.

-speaking of feferi, ugh, i feel so bad for her. i cant believe someone as positive as her could be corrupted by the horrorterrors. one moment, she's the only one preventing a trollnazi and a doomsday lusus from destroying the shit out of everything, and suddenly shes twisting squibbles into cthulhu. "dont you get it, im dead," baller fucking quote but im so sorry girl. she has always been someone who is resigned of the fate of everything, but she never stops trying to make the best of it, unlike aradia.

-Also, why is equius so horny all the time? my god he is so fucking rapey.

yeah i like gossip girl! i was at the height of that when i was 13 but its a nostalgic show for me. its not a show that i think too much abt ig. mostly i just quote it all the time w my sister. i have a gossip girl character as my icon now bc i like having matching icons w my sister! we like to switch through fictional friendships/sibling dynamics. 

i also LOVE the office and also all sitcoms of that nature (i love parks and rec, superstore, new girl, etc. i love funny shows that focus on sentimental relationships that end up making me ugly cry. i think the office might be my fav but tbh i thought that abt superstore AND new girl before so idk if i even have a fav).

spy x family is a new anime im into these days! its found family and very cute!

and show w big eyes... im not sure which one u mean hhh. i like a lot of anime, my favs being ga (ofc), jibaku shounen hanako-kun, and fruits basket. im also really into the webtoon hooky, which is abt witches.

anyway mikan time:

ONE OF MY FAV CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME. i talk abt natsume all the time so it might feel like hes my all time fav, but he and mikan actually share that place in my heart. 

yes similarly i also felt she was annoying when i first watched the anime (i was twelve when i first got into it). at such a young age i had a tendency to get irritated with the female mcs in media (internalized misogyny, etc) and mikan was 1. loud 2. bold 3. stupid, which are naturally unforgivable traits for a character to have (sarcasm). when i rewatched/reread at 14 i realized that i was looking at her all wrong. around the time i started observing the ga tumblr fandom around age 15 (i only recently started being active in the ga fandom bc i was too nervous before), there was a pervasive idea that mikan was a mary sue.

UGH so let me go off real quick. i will talk way more abt mikan in my next nm essay, but ill summarize some of my ideas briefly for this. mikan’s arc is all about feeling useful, having agency, and how best to help others. she is maybe one of the few characters who undergoes OVERWHELMINGLY negative character development. i dont mean she was flanderized or ruined, i mean that this little girl started developing the idea that she should smile all the time and hide all her negative feelings in order to make OTHERS feel better. this is not good! but its treated like its good, like thats the best choice she can make (this is the actual reason that i only ship her romantically w natsume actually, but ill go into that in my essay). it can be fun for a character to devolve, to make the wrong choice, but this change wasnt treated that way.

another issue is i genuinely HATE mikan having the stealing alice. she should never have had the stealing alice. do i realize thats more than half the manga im talking about? YES. it completely upended her character arc. her nullification alice was so understated! she felt like it was useless and was SO insecure about it. then all of a sudden she has the stealing alice, which can be dangerous, but definitely cannot be called “useless” and her story about uselessness/having a “boring” alice just. falls short. yukas story w the stealing alice was so meaningful and impactful on its own. mikan ALMOST being the next yuka couldve been compelling if it didnt ruin the set-up that the entire first half of the manga was focusing on. 

anyway mikan is NOT a mary sue for the above reasons. she is not effortlessly perfect. many people in the manga call her plain. she can be really stupid. she doesnt always save the day. in fact, other people often have to save her, making her feel useless (which is why she shouldve saved natsume. they were each other’s key to resolving arcs and yet. and YET.) she can be loud, brash, bold, and often says the wrong things. she has a really apparent character arc and calling her a mary sue ignores all that. ppl who think mikan is a mary sue are my worst enemy and i will fist fight them.

now ill talk a little about mikan in fanfics bc i think its worth mentioning, especially since i filled out that square abt her being done dirty. like i said, mikan is stupid. im not insulting her. some people are stupid. shes not good at academics. shes a lot more sporty than she is brainy. she rushes to conclusions and doesnt always think things through. shes not really a rational person all the time. fanfics often treat this stupidity as a negative trait to be fixed. maybe shes stupid when shes little but she’ll be a genius when she gets older! look how smart she is now! instead of just letting her be dumb. she has other traits, like deep empathy, athleticism, passion, optimism, that are often sacrificed in fanfic in order to make room for her made up intelligence. 

mikan in fanfic (especially if shes supposed to be older) is often painted as more subdued than her loud manga counterpart, more often cynical, introverted, skeptical, etc., and ALWAYS pretty even if SHE doesnt see it (despite being described often as plain in the manga). i have some theories about this. 

1: western fans are more comfortable making mikan like a western mc than one more typical of anime. if u think abt what a typical western female lead looks like, she’s usually less feminine, “not like other girls,” a smart bookworm who is cynical and rational. this is familiar so i think a lot of western fanfic writers end up leaning mikan this way even at the cost of making her unrecognizable. so mikan being stupid and loud and optimistic are all traits to be fixed, bc theyre not as familiar in a lead role. 

2. fans want to have a mature mikan, and they think theres no way she can keep her childish traits, like stupidity, boldness, impulsiveness, and idealism, and NOT be a child. i find that ridiculous. why cant mikan be a giddy, happy, upbeat adult? why does she have to lose all the traits that make her mikan in order to demonstrate maturity? 

3. i might be off base with all of these, but this one... i feel the most strongly about. mikan is the main character. in a lot of stories, the reader is invited to relate to the main character, to project onto her. often, the main character is vague or universal BC imagining her as you is the whole point. fanfic (especially the older fanfic) turns mikan into that easily recognizable and relatable mc we can insert ourselves into. 

anyway i have a lot more thoughts on mikan, way more than i could ever say in one post (which is why im doing an essay series) but these are some basic thoughts i have. im sorry its so long.

Mages VS Templars (and why I think pitting them against each other is counterproductive)

A lot of the mage vs templar debacle could be avoided, I think, if it was seen less as "both sides are dangerous" and more as "both sides are victims" 

because they are. we have no way of knowing how young most templars are when they're taken into the order, but every major templar, or "almost templar" we know was inducted young. Cullen joined at 13. Way too young to make choices that impact your whole life. Alistair was given to the chantry at birth, and had no choice in becoming a templar. maybe he could have run away, but also if they're inducted young, as seems to be the case, that means a literal child would have to be savvy enough to live on their own. in Thedas. They have no agency but this is covered up with a thick slather of "it's an honor to serve!" and "it's the maker's will!" which is employing religion but i won't get into that. 

now you have the mages who also have no choice, and their bodily autonomy is infringed upon BY the templars. this method of using victim against victim ensures their chances of ever related to their possibly similar circumstances are slim. templars are simultaneously scared and apathetic towards mages' oppression, because they themselves are also oppressed, but they don't see it that way—because it's an “honor to serve.”

when i first did that quest with cullen in DAI and Cass went on about how "mages made their suffering known, but templars never had," i'll admit my first reaction was "boo-hoo" until my critical thinking skills kicked in and realized how royally fucked it was that you have an organization of religiously-mandated drug addictions known to cause paranoia and mood swings overlooking the people they're afraid will turn into demons.

this is a powder keg that repeatedly explodes. it's bad for the mages AND for the templars. Everyone is getting hurt here!

This is also part of the reason I think Anders targeted the Chantry in particular in DA2. It would have been easy to specifically target the Templars because they are the tool being used, but they aren't the hand holding the tool—the Chantry is. Although I do genuinely think most people in the Chantry think they're doing good and helping, there's also the side of the Chantry that ALSO doesn't have a choice in being there. Girls given to the chantry become nuns, whether they like it or not—this was the whole plot of the Surana origin. Lily wanted to get married and have a family, but couldn't.

A demon also used this desire to exploit a Templar. He had taken a vow and wasn't allowed to start a family.

Basically, while the Templars are oppressive and have more privilege than the mages, and the Chantry exploits this to maintain a system they profit from. Religion is used as a tool to excuse their behavior and shut down anyone's questioning of the system—I mean, the Templars are literally just drinking experimental lyrium in DAI and they don't even question it! How many Templars are experimented on without even realizing?—and swathes them in a tenuous false sense of security.

This isn't to say all Templars are innocent victims of course—I'm not trying to discount the horror mages have gone through. One thing I'd love to see in the future, too, is the way mental illness has mixed with magic. But as far as I know, there is NO recourse or support for Templars until after DAI, if and only if Cullen manages to beat his lyrium addiction.

This is also why I always thought the likening templars to IRL cops doesn't work. I've said this in other posts before, but cops do the things they do with a lucid mind. They CHOOSE to be hateful and to uphold an oppressive system that outright favors them. THEY are the exploiters.

Especially coming from a place of how addicts are treated, with the Templars, imo at least, have a cult-like mentality, I feel like it's a disservice to simply view them through the lens of "fantasy cops."

Okay dont clown me on this (because i still havent watched true colors). But I've been thinking about Marcy.

Theres been alot of theorizing about how terrible Marcy's home life is. Since there seems to be clear indication that she doesnt wish to return to Earth. While I agree that Marcy seems reluctent to return home, I cannot agree with the idea of a bad home life.

Heres why:

Point 1: Her age :

We as a fandom tend to forget but Marcy and the others are 13. That is an incredibally young age. Since Anne had just turned 13 at the start of the series that would mean the girls would be in 7th grade. 13 year old children don't want to return home after a vacation let alone a magical world.

Point 2: Tv Shows :

Marcy is shown to like anime, games and other forms of media. She lived and breathed DnD since arriving to Amphibia. And if you have ever watched an anime, especially one targeted at children then you would know those shows always have the protaganist happy and living the good life. Marcy has had a good life in Amphibia! She's the Kings right hand, she is a captain, she's important. She is quite literally the sterotypical hero you see in anime.

Point 3: Her future :

At 13, children especially from the US, are expected to start deciding their futures. Expected to begin searching for ideas and taking classes suited to fit their futures. Sciences and Math take priority over the arts. But in Amphibia, Marcy does not have this problem. Her future has been decided. She is a hero, she fights monsters and bandits. She knows exactly what is expected of her. She doesnt have to search for a goal or future career, its right in front of her. Handed to her on a silver plate.

Point 4: She knows this:

Marcy is smart, she has to have some semblance of understanding. She knows how good she has it. She has her future on Amphibia planned out. She doesnt need to worry about housing. She lives in the Castle! Rent free!!

I wouldn't, at 13 I would have killed to have my life planned out like that. You don't need a bad home life to not want to go home. Everyone wants to go on a magical adventure at some point in their life. If you had the choice would you really want to go back?

So, MDZS Cats Part 2! Partly because I looked back on my first post and shuddered, partly because there have been a lot of cats going missing in my neighbourhood and I got sad, and partly because @memprime mentioned the Wen and Nie siblings as kitties ages ago and I really wanted to draw that. Anyway, last time I did my favourite ships (although I still need to do a NieLan one, because that has become my recent obsession) and now here I am with the bestest siblings! Which is pretty much all of them except the other Wen siblings. (I’ll be honest, this was a ploy to draw kittens.)

This took me ages, but I managed to get a lot more detail into the fur and add some little nic nacs, like the fan and the soup. I was going to do shading, but...  nah. So, please, for the love of all things holy, open these images in another tab and zoom in. I put in too much detail for it to be wasted.

Nie Huasiang: *desperately trying to squirm out of his brothers grip while refusing to let go of his fan*: No! Da-Ge! I can’t go to training! I’m ill! And injured! And blind! Ah! Da-Ge! You have to let me rest! (I wanted to add a lot more whining, but I had a limited amount of space)

Nie Mingjue: *no shits given* Shut it. You’re going.

Wen Qing: *about to stab some toddlers* What did you say to A-Ning?

Wen Ning: *not sure he’s more scared of the mean kids, or his sister* A-Jie. I- It’s fine.

Lan Xichen: *supportive big bro trying to pass on the secret of inhuman upper body strength* Very good, Wangji. Keep yourself balanced.

Lan Wangji: *struggling, but not giving up, because, well, this is Lan imma-pine-for-13-years-see-if-I-dont Zhan* Mn.

The sibling dynamics in this fandom are amazing and the big siblings are the best around. Honestly, they deserved so much more than they got, which isn’t saying much since three of them died and one of them will be dealing with severe trauma for the rest of his life. Seriously, what does the MXTX have against older siblings?!

So, yeah, I might add a few more of these in time (Junior Quartet, A-Qing, MianMian and NieLan will be next, if I do some more. I want to try some doggos, too, but in another fandom) and I’m very happy with how this turned out. Let me know what you think!
