The pushback to the term "cultural Christianity" from atheists is real odd to me because, as someone who has been an atheist since 13, only ever went to church a handful of times never with my own family (made a note never to sleep over at that friends house on a Saturday again bc I HATED church it smelled like shit, was boring, pews are uncomfortable as fuck, and the religious people I knew were all wildly misogynistic and I've never been here for being told I was less of a person for being Born Like This), and generally had no actual connection to Christianity in a meaningful way but still only knows Christian mythology, has been steeped in Christian values I had to untangle, and my religious understandings are still deeply Christian.

Like Ive never paid attention to the bible, church, Jesus, Christian teachings, or whatever but if you asked me about any religion the one I'll reliably know the most about is Christianity. I don't know why atheists are offended by being called culturally Christian because they have bad blood with the religion because like sorry bruh that doesn't mean you're less indoctrinated by Christian values if the culture you grew up in is predominantly Christian. In fact I'd say that religion being this ubiquitous in the culture regardless of anyone's consent to exactly ONE religion being shoved down our throats is reason to team up with other religious folks who ALSO don't like being constantly evangelized to by the culture at large, not a reason to throw a fit because you don't like being tied to a religion that is so ingrained into the culture that shit like "oh my god" and "Jesus Christ" are common expressions of surprise regardless of how atheist you are. Like surely I'm not the only atheist to notice the shocking amount of cultural religious shit that works it's way into my life and speech despite having not set foot in a church since I was like 10, and I can't remember the last time I was in one before that.

Idk man cultural Christianity seems like a pretty damn useful term to describe my relationship with a religion I never fully bought into and then actively rejected as a child yet still hold weird connections to and knowledge of just because Christianity is so baked into the culture I grew up in like it or not. If you want to be mad, be mad at the Christians who stole your freedom from religion from you, not usually religious minorities who discuss cultural Christianity and how it damages them too.

lo'ak hangs around with you in your room, joins you in watching them do whatever they're doing with your avatar, sticking a needle in your arm with your blood and what not.

TCM headcanons I have that no one asked for:

Pre-Nam Chop Top works at a record store to bring in some money for the family. Absolutely enjoys his job.

Johnny totally loves rock and metal. Chop Top has gifted him many records of his favs since he works at a record store. Definitely something Johnny looks forward to when it’s his birthday or Christmas

Speaking of which, Johnny enjoys music ranging from Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Misfits, etc. to Entombed, Death, Bathory, etc.

But who he dearly holds to his heart is Ted Nugent.

Would absolutely slobber all over Ted Nugent’s dick. Like serious super-fan of Ted Nugent.

Chop Top and Nubbins would totally adore The Garden.

What more could you ask for? Two twins who make some good ass music and dress up, Nubbins and Chop Top resonate with that.

Will beg Sissy and Bubba to do their makeup like Wyatt and Fletcher. Doesn’t matter the look, they want it on their face!

They all have fun doing this and they will sing their bad covers of their songs.

Johnny would get sad listening to Superheaven, but he is addicted to them. No bad songs, he loves them.

Drayton has a thing for Jim Morrison. Come on baby, light his fire!

No one needs to know this detail about him, they would never let him live it down.

Sissy sees a sister-like relationship in Bubba more than a brotherly relationship. She will go to him for her problems and complaints that would fall on deaf ears to the rest of her family.

Sissy would love it if Johnny could secure a girlfriend, but he would rather use them and dump them in a ditch.

They have gotten into many fights over this, Sissy just wants another woman in the house besides Nancy’s old ass!

But Bubba will suffice until that day comes.

Speaking of Bubba, he loves to play games!

Gets the family together for Just Dance, but it mostly ends in Johnny opting out and the twins being mean and fighting during Just Dance.

Makes Bubba cry, all he wanted was to spend quality time.

Johnny feels bad and will absolutely bust his ass to Cotton Eye Joe to make Bubba laugh.

Surprisingly a good dancer, it is weird.

Mario Party is CHAOTIC.

Ends in Johnny strangling Chop Top and Nubbins trying to get Johnny off of him.

Chop Top talks too much shit. He is the king of Shit Talking.

Sissy will laugh her ass off while Bubba gets super worried.

Drayton threatens to take their game away if they don't quiet down.

If Johnny was not batshit crazy, he and Leland would totally do the Cotton Eye Joe dance at a party.

Like two Western men.

They would make every heart swoon, on some real shit.

They would be an iconic, powerful duo. Lets be honest here, they would be unstoppable.

Too bad Johnny is too far gone to even be normal lmao.

Chop Top and Sissy smoke weed together and will talk about life. It's their way of escaping.

Drayton has caught them before but he lets them be. They all have their own ways of escaping their minds.

Drayton has totally used the devil's lettuce himself when he was younger, so he knows he can’t condemn them.

Will still act irritated about it.

Cant forget about Nubbins!

Kid is hyper, absolutely fucking haywire that even Chop Top can’t keep up sometimes.

Used to be self conscious of his birth mark when he was more self aware, but as he started to lose his sanity, he stopped caring.

Has tried to cover it up with makeup but none of the foundation will cover it up well enough.

Very impulsive and will forget tasks if he’s in the middle of something.

Let’s just say he was making himself a sandwich and Drayton asks for him to check the traps, he would forget about his sandwich the entire day until Johnny or Drayton complained that he wasted food.

He cant help it! He forgot!

Bubba makes sure that no harm falls upon the barn cats. He loves them! Would cry for months if one of them were to die.

Has tried to keep kittens in the house but Nancy scolded him for it.

However, when it’s really cold in the winter, he will sneak a few inside in the basement.

Him and Sissy will name them too!

Johnny has named a few too, but they were mainly after musicians like Ozzy, Dio, Ted, etc.

His favorite cat would have to be Ozzy. Total cuddle bug and mischievous little bastard.

He sneaks Ozzy in every night and they sleep together. He can’t go to sleep without Ozzy.

Sometimes will invite Dio and Ted but they tend to fight.

Sissy has a pretty, fluffy white cat named Belle. She sneaks her in as well at night to sleep.

If Bubba could, he would collect all the cats and keep them in the house.

Nubbins was extremely confused as to why they were so fond of the cats but he never made any advances to hurt them.

It just confused him.

He didn’t hate animals, he was just used to them being dead.

Johnny adores one of their Jersey cows named Daisy. Spends time with her and plays ball with her in the pasture.

Nubbins has caught Johnny asleep on Daisy and snapped a picture which woke Johnny up.

Cue a lot of screaming and Johnny trying to catch Nubbins to destroy the photo.

But Nubbins was still able to keep it. He thinks it’s a nice photo, Johnny looks at peace.

Alright I think that’s enough for now lol. There will probably be a pt.2 in the future when i have more ideas but that’s it for now

Can you imagine what partner/group projects would be like with the Cove and MC in school?? (Ignoring the indifferent route) At school Cove sticks to the MC’s side like glue so imagine whenever the teacher announces that the class has to partner up or choose group members to do a project Cove just SPRINTS to stand beside you and grabs your hand to ask if you can work together (In step 1 I can just see Cove side eyeing any other group members that he has to work with) But also if the teachers like “Oh but you can’t choose who you work with it’s assigned” poor Cove will just complain to you the entire time if you end up not being able to work together, he’s all pouty like >:(

on the story front i loved it too with a special shoutout to soujuuro being one of my favorite characters in TM (i say this often not my fault type moon keeps releasing bangers)

however mahoyo has two issues for me:

the story is clearly incomplete: i dont mean its just nonsense or whatever but when nasu said its the first of a trilogy you can just feel that in the story with alot of things being left in the air. this wouldnt be an issue really if mahoyo 2 wasnt basically dead....

i didnt vibe with the slice of life scenes as much as i usually do in nasu works: this isnt a flaw in the story more so i just didnt like em idk how else to word that

mahoyo is a great read however and i highly highly recommend you read it or else

this is peak type moon and when red garden comes out it will be even BETTER especially with satsuki route because satsuki deserves it

(Gregor is also meant to be funny so dw lmao)

Skid and Pump see the now dead Moloch, and Pump begins to cry a little. He runs over to Moloch, and starts basically hitting the statue repeatedly while crying about how it's not fair. In this AU, Moloch is actually REPELLED by young life—and being the little shits they are, Skid and Pump were basically following him around just to mess with him or beat him themselves. Skid glares at the Statue, and then over at Gregor silently. Pump begins to scream at Gregor. "ITS NOT FAIR! WHY DID YOU GET HIM BEFORE WE DID?!"

Skid yells out, "WE DID THE STUPID THINGS YOU ASKED! WHY'D YOU STOP US?!"

Gregor doesn't give an exact answer, and just rolls his eyes. "Hmph.. it doesn't matter." While turning around, he smiles to himself and snickers. "It's funny to watch you cry about something so stupid anyway."

This pisses off both of them because they hear it, and while angrily yelling, they begin to run after Gregor who just quickens his pace and forces himself to limp rather rapidly out of the house.

As Gregor leaves, he seems somewhat pleased with himself, but also nervous. And then he notices Lila slowly getting out of her car with Jaune beside her.

Jaunes smiles awkwardly at Lila, but it kind of fades once she notices Gregor completely. And Lila slurs out, "Wh.. what's.. what's zat? What's it doin' out my house..?"

Jaune places a hand on Lila's shoulder, and tries to stop her from going any further while laughing nervously. Skid comes running out of the house while Pump stands in the doorframe, but quickly stops and gains a look of slight horror when he notices his mom. Despite standing completely still, Lila notices him and gets irritated real quick.

"Wh.. hey.. how the hell did YOU get here?"

"..is.. this your son?"

Noticing the tone in Gregors voice, Lila becomes offended quick, practically marches foward while Jaune watches and scoops Skid up in her arms forcibly.

"Yeah—what's it to you, you.. old, piece of.."

"..pfff.. oh, that's rich coming from you. You know—I get that you're a widow and all, but seriously.. you and your son really ARE alike."

"..what's.. that supposed to mean?"

okay i think ive calmed down enough to start theorizing again

i dont think that the islanders that were left on egg island are dead (besides q!max cause cc confirmed that). most of them were pretty far away from the bomb itself (im pretty sure the bomb was near red base but idk where the boat was so idk if the boat was near red island or not) and were basically on the shore so saying that those who arent on the boat made it but those who were like 5 meters away didn't doesn't make sense.

i think that the boat left as soon as the countdown finished so those who were stranded are left to deal with the nuclear fallout of it all. which is pretty poetic cause bolas got their gas masks and most of og bolas did not make it onto the boat.

i think that when the stranded islanders return home, they will be definitely traumatized and probably will have some life-altering injuries due to the radiation and impact of the bomb. like respawn was fine and all like the eye did not like turn respawn off or something but they definitely are getting fucked up so cant wait for the new skins?? (I only know how to cope through humor)

but also on a meta level like the characters are definitely not dead cause you cant just kill half of the active players on the server and not address that properly.

now the eggs, i do not know if they actually were got by the earthquake debris or if they actually were tped out by the eye. all I can say about them is that we did not see their bodies so im not saying their dead just yet (more so for my own piece of mind lmao)

also from just a narrative standpoint, if all the eggs died besides one it is such a shit ending for the months long build up of the eggs going missing. like these are beloved characters and you are just going to end them with a nuke?? after we get to see them for like 5 minutes only??? that's just not good storytelling so I do not believe that they are dead but idk they are probably relocated somewhere and they have to save them again but that is also so fucking boring cause they just did that with purgatory so idk

By the end of nightfall, i dont even know which one is the truth or which one is the lie because will grayson lies so much. Like did he actually did all that? So how tf am i supposed to see him as a great romantic book hero? Like, idk im so confused rn. By the end of nightfall, i ended up only loving emory scott from this series, and hating will grayson. I was so disappointed when we didnt get enough banks by fire night. But shes my second favourite.

I’m definitely not a confirmation page or anything. If anything, I see the series totally different than a lot of people – especially Will. I’m not sure if I’ll say anything that makes the pain better, but I’m always happy to talk about it.

Yeah, I absolutely think Will did all those things with Alex. All that and more.

But it wasn’t special. They were both sleeping with multiple people. Alex was sleeping with Michael’s father, for example. Sure, they probably enjoyed each other’s company more than they did with others, but I never saw any evidence of anything romantic between them. And in a series about characters that started having sex without commitment as early as 14 or 15, I don’t see this as odd behavior on their part.

For instance, it was odd behavior for Kai to NOT be having sex in Corrupt. That was his whole part of his storyline. So, Will carrying on from where he left off before prison was normal and expected.

I do agree that Will saying this is cruel. He’s intending to hurt Emory. But this isn’t the first time he’s done this. It actually echoes what he used to say in high school.

He said something similar in her room the night he tried to end things with her. When Will wants to hurt Emory, he reminds her he has options. And Emory has no problem using his casual slutiness to try and hurt him in return, but that's besides the point. The point is the question this brings up:

Does he actually want those options?

I think we can all read that scene and know both of them are lying. Will says himself he doesn’t want anyone but her. However, when Emory comes back that she was just using him, seeing what all the fuss was about, and now she’s done with him, he’s hurt. He wants her in all ways, but she's saying she doesn't want him. So he tries to cover it up. He's lying. He doesn't care about any of the other "options", he just wants her to be jealous and hurt like he's jealous and hurt.

In Blackchurch the situation is slightly different. He wants to hurt her for other reasons, not just because she didn’t want him like he wanted her. However, I think apart of just how vicious his anger got was him frantically trying to build a wall to protect himself. If he didn’t manage to find a way to defend himself against whatever it is about Emory that draws him to her like a moth to a flame, he risked bearing himself to her cruelty again. I’m not sure if he was ready to do that. So he relied on his anger and the same old tactics that worked before. In the scene you mentioned, he's just giving his "options" a face.

I mean, if you don’t see him as a romantic hero, there’s nothing wrong with that. There’s not a lot about the Present timeline/Blackchurch arc that is romantic. But I do find both of these characters sympathetic in some ways, and I’m happy they found a way to happiness with each other after all this time.

Yes, exactly.

Damon and Alex indulged Will. They were so enamored with this boy with childish tendencies – this Peter Pan-like man – that they were willing to let him destroy himself rather than expect more.

Alex did it because she was also hiding from reality. Damon did it because he wanted Will to never lose what made him so enthusiastic about life. Will should never be in pain. Because Damon was completely consumed by the hatred and anger in him, and he’d placed all his happiness and what was left of his goodness in other people. It was important to him to protect that in Will. Of course, this means that both Alex and Damon see what they want to see in Will, and not necessarily what’s there.

Because Will wanted to grow up. When Emory was leaving him in high school, she said she didn't want to be someone he needed to take care of, someone pathetic with a lot of baggage he'd get sick of. What she didn't understand is that Will desperately wanted to take care of her. He wanted to hold that baggage, and he was patient enough to never get tired of holding it. He wanted to be a man, and to be important to people, and be dependable and relied on. He came from a world where no one needed him. He was just there. I recall how when Will was tucking Emory in after homecoming. The conversation they had about what Will's future looked like. It was joke, but apart of Will wanted to be the important man in the great suit for Emory. That's how he imagined their future - sans Heidi.

If he could get Emory to love him… if he could be special enough for her, and be the only one she went to when she needed something – love, affection, happiness, help… other people didn't need him like that, but he really wanted to be that for Emory. He wanted to be that important to her. Problem was he had no idea how much help she really needed. It was all a fantasy that was never going to happen, because Emory was not the girl he thought she was. Once he realized that, he was hurt that she wouldn’t even try to depend on him. He was that unreliable.

And then, when he gets out of prison, he finds out that Damon lied to him about who leaked the videos and then disappears, Kai and Michael are having their usual bromance, leaving him out of the plans, and who does leave him with?

Alex. So he hides in her. And Alex hides in him, but Alex also doesn’t need him to be anything other than there. She can take care of herself, she has a roster of callers. She's taken care of. He doesn’t have to be a man for her. They let each other be weak without judgement, but eventually even Will gets tired of that, and starts down that "inevitable road" to growing up without her.

He can’t make a commitment to Alex, anyway. Because in his heart, he knows it’s still only Emory that he wants to be that man for.

There are so many recycled plot points and beats throughout this series, it’s a little exhausting to count. Still, I hadn’t considered it from this angle.

Emory as Rika, forgiving Alex, Aydin, and Will the way that Rika forgave the horsemen.

Regardless. I still hate Aydin and refuse to accept him as part of their little family. He’s gross, and I hope he and Alex go off on one of their adventures and never come back, and the group just forgets they were ever there.

Unlike most around here, I don't mind Alex’s presence totally (I’m more irritated with her overall character execution than her role within the story, but that’s for a different time), except for the fact that she married that man. I do absolutely hate her for that.

I think this would have been a much better plot, though. Yes, because I hate Aydin and his storyline, but also because this makes more sense!

It makes more sense that Will would find the letter and disappear. Once they figured out he’s in Blackchurch, Kai would have more understanding of what that kind of environment would do to Will. I think he said that Will stopped eat? I could be misremembering though.

So to motivate Will, they could give him something he wanted, like coaxing a dog from a shed with a treat.

Or I could go on replotting the entire thing. I think what the point is, is that almost anything would have been better than what actually happened.

While I appreciate Emory being unwilling to give up and continuing to fight, the truth is that she was being a little stupid. Just a little.

They were on an island, off the coast of Canada, in the middle of October. She had no clothes except what she was wearing (which was usually boxer shorts and a button up shirt?), and usually only managed to grab at most two days’ worth of food.

She was going to let her pride and inability to face Will get her killed.

Now, I don’t doubt for a second Emory’s drive for survival. It’s possible she would have figured out how to live in the wilderness. The best option, however, would have been to play nice with Alex and Will. Not be friends. Just Be. Nice.

If Alex was right and the team was coming to save them, great. She’ll be taken off the island. She can hit the ground running in the opposite direction as soon as her feet hit pavement.

If Alex was wrong and the team wasn’t on their way, when it got close to the thirty days, she could sneak away then, so she only had to plan on surviving outside the house for a short while until the supplies team came. At which point she’d have the freedom to move about. Either talk to a member of the team or sneak aboard whatever transport they came in.

But either way, she’d need to survive in the house, and getting as many people on her side as possible (which would mean stop antagonizing everyone who pissed her off) would have been a smarter move. Emory needed to be prepared to play the long or short game. Blackchurch was not Thunder Bay. Being a lone wolf was going to get her nothing useful.

However, if she did that, we wouldn’t have our beloved Emory, would we. Much like Will, I love that she never let the opportunity to snap at them pass.

This isn't to say that Emory isn't one of the smartest people in the group. I have no doubt that her and Banks run circles around them any day of the week. Just that in this particular situation, she was not doing her best. Understandable, though. She was only a little stressed out.

Yeah, I don’t know. That whole “rule the world” thing really bugs me. One, why did Damon only include his sisters and not the whole family?

Two, why does Banks have to do everything Damon wants? When does she get to choose?

Three, I don’t mind the idea of Rika being mayor…eventually. But Rika has barely graduated college. What experience does she have to run the town. I’d have much rather they used someone like Katsu or Vittoria or Matthew Grayson as a placeholder until Rika was old enough.

If there’s anything that we learned from the Rika and Banks bonus scene, is that Rika still really suffers from insecurities and embarrassment too much. Why is she letting a 20-year-old bully her over something that happened 15 years prior, and for something that is completely normal in their social circles? I don’t trust Rika to run a PTA without falling victim to peer pressure. Who gave her a town?

Four, …they own an Inn, an amusement park that’s only open like one-three months a year, a dojo, and a humanitarian project. They’re rich kids playing with the money they inherited, doing a lot of nothing, and making more money for themselves. Exactly what empire are we building here?

Yeah… anyway. I don’t know why I’m still here. Other than, I love these stupid characters and want better for them. I wanna play with them like dolls. It's s all pretty dumb though.
