#i relate to vi in being an older sister
Note
For Sam x reader.
Ghostface is back and had followed the Carpenters, the twins, and Amber's older sister, Reader, to New York. No one trusting her because of the fact that her little sister was Ghostface, Reader is in disbelief, and Sam breaks up with her on the spot. Fast forward to the end, where Ghostface is dead, everyone's being treated by paramedics, Reader is seen walking away from the scene alone. Kirby asks where she is, Sam then sees her walking away, holding her broken arm to her body, and runs after her and apologies for not trusting and believing her. (Reader saying it's too late for sam to apologize. She then walks away from her friends, from Sam.)

You stood before Amber’s Ghostface outfit, reaching out to touch the fabric before you remembered where you were -- who you’re with. The glares given to you by the rest of the group burned at the back of your skull. You can practically sense their judgments. Since the first Ghostface attack in New York, they pointed their fingers at you. You understood, given what you've all been through. Can't be too careful. You didn’t care that you saw the contempt on your own girlfriend’s face. You stayed by her side, understanding where she was coming from.
Being related to a previous Ghostface was something you and Sam had in common. When you are linked to a person with that track record, it sticks with you even if you are different from them. Trust becomes hard to give. And out of everyone, you figured your girlfriend is the one who understood the most about what it’s like. However, it looks like the sentiment isn’t shared.
She approaches you, getting the courage to ask, “Can we talk?”
You can tell what’s about to happen before Sam can utter what she wants to say to you.
Nothing good ever comes out of conversations like these.
“I’m sorry.” Sam stares, her gaze cold, nothing like the Sam you fell in love with. With each deafening step she takes away from you, your heart shatters just a little bit more. You are wounded by the way she’s looking at you. Any wound or injury you might sustain in the next few minutes will not compare to the poison laced in the invisible knife held against your throat by the woman you love. “I can’t take any more chances. I can’t trust you. We’re done.”
You scoff, glancing towards the group in hopes that they would back up your claim. “Sam, you know me. I would never hurt you or Tara or. . . Anika.”
Mindy flinches at the mention of her girlfriend’s name. Her stare hardens. “You have no right to say her name. We know you did it. You killed her.”
“Mindy…” Your voice breaks as your throat feels like it’s closing up. You can’t do anything to convince them, letting the stream of tears flow from your eyes. No one came to your rescue to prove your innocence. None of them trusted you. You felt pathetic, humiliated, embarrassed. Your eyes settle on Sam again. “Really? After everything we’ve been through together, you-”
Sam glowers. “It’s over, Y/n. Please, stay away from us.”
“Fuck you.” You turn your back, the hurt in your tone clear as day. “I don’t know you at all.”
“Maybe we didn’t know each other as well as we thought.”
It was one thing for you to walk away and another knowing that Sam would not be going after you.
-
“It was easy luring you away from the group. Guess we really can’t choose our family, huh?” Ghostface makes a tsk sound, the voice changer turned off.
He takes a step forward, but you stay positioned adjacent to the wall. That voice…
“Ethan?”
Ethan removes his mask, holding the voice changer to his lips, “Didn’t expect that?”
Of course it was him. Little by little, the pieces fall into place. The apartment attack -- that was probably Ethan. He wasn’t with the group. Not even the skeptic Mindy questioned his whereabouts. Your tears haven’t dried yet and you were as sure as hell they weren’t going to stop now. You bring your hands together in a slow clap. “Oh, wow, that’s… Fucking brilliant, actually.” Clutching your stomach, you let out what sounded like a painful cackle. “This is the part where I die.” You say. It wasn’t a question, but a statement.
“Oh no, no, no. See, that’s where you’re wrong.” Ethan smirks, gripping your left arm, applying pressure to where you had been previously injured a couple nights prior. “You are our scapegoat. I must give credit to Mindy for the idea. You have the perfect motive to be Ghostface! It was just gonna be Sam, but… The press would go crazier if it was a Bonnie & Clyde situation. Not that I care about that sorta stuff. It just works.”
You collect the saliva from your mouth, spitting in his eye. “Jokes on you ‘cause we’re not together anymore.”
“But they wouldn’t know that because by the time you get ‘caught’, all of your friends will be dead and you would look like the asshole trying to save yourself if you attempt to say the truth.”
Ethan places his free hand on your shoulder, pulling your arm with more force than necessary to guarantee that it would break. You stand there, biting your lip in order to hide the pain. If I screamed, it wouldn’t make a difference anyway, you said to yourself bitterly. There’s not a single person who’d give me the benefit of the doubt. In fact, they’d make me suffer worse, believing that Ethan did the right thing. Who knows what creative scenarios he came up with already.
-
The paramedics found you slumped down beside a row of chairs after Sam and the rest of the group defeated the three Ghostfaces. They wondered why you weren’t with the others, but with a quick word from Kirby, they left you alone, guiding you outside to treat your broken arm. One of the paramedics - Theo (that’s what you heard Kirby call him) asked if you wanted a ride to the hospital. You declined, insisting that you could get there yourself without anyone’s help.
You spare Sam a glance, observing her interact with Mindy, Chad, and Tara. Core Four. Good for them. Although you were glad that they are are still extant, you can’t stop the rancor that you feel as you stare at the four. You want nothing more than for this day to be over, move to someplace else, maybe change your name. Anywhere is better than here. It’s become clear to you how unwanted you are in New York. A change of scenery might do you good.
Kirby (the only person who hasn’t treated you like scum) situates herself in front of Sam, “Hey, where’s Y/n?”
Sam only notices your absence when Kirby pointed it out. “Shit. I…” She scans the area in search of your familiar eyes, guilt eating at her knowing that she accused you of being a killer. Because of that, you got hurt. She’d never forgive herself for it. “I'll be right back.”
The blonde detective nods in understanding. “I’ll stay with Tara.”
“Thank you.”
You were on your way to the hospital when a hand grasps your injured arm. Recoiling from the touch, you look back to curse the one responsible for hurting your limb only to meet Sam’s pleading gaze. “What do you want, Samantha?”
“Y/n, I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for being careless, for not trusting or believing you. If I had, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt.” Sam touches your good shoulder this time, expressing her genuine apology.
But no matter how many ‘I’m sorry’s’ she will direct at you, it won’t take away what’s been done. “It’s too late, Sam.”
“What? No. We can try again.” She pleads desperately.
You couldn’t bite back the words the words that are on the tip of your tongue, feeling the last ounce of self control fray away. “Try again? Do you hear how ridiculous that sounds? You broke up with me because you didn’t trust me. You didn’t even try to understand my side!” The news reporters turned their heads at your outburst. They point their cameras to you, but you don’t make an effort to cut off your ebullition short. “All of you pointed your hands at me because what? I’m the sister of a killer?! If we’re basing our suspicions of all the Ghostface’s relatives, you should’ve been on the top of the list. The only thing I asked was for you to stand by me and you failed. So, no, we can’t try again. We’ll only end up worse than where we left off.” You finish, walking away from everything (not for the first time). “I’ll get my things out of your apartment tonight. After that, you won’t have to see me again.”
Sam stays still while you leave, clutching your arm in the process. That limb will heal, but the words that Sam has spoken won’t. There will remain a constant reminder of how you were betrayed by those you would give everything for.
So much for trust.

To me the core theme of arcane is this specific type of conflict that repeats over and over again in all the main aspects of the story that centers around 'sibling relationships'.
Starting with the two cities. We have Piltover and the bad side of Piltover. Technically they're supposed to be one and the same but one is the 'golden privileged child' while the other is disadvantaged and needs to rely on the rich side of Piltover for support, they can't do it by themselves. And then the rich side of Piltover fails in its duties of taking care of/protecting/supporting/whatever the poorer side and a split happens. Zaun is created and it becomes so dangerous and volatile, it becomes a menace and an active threat to itself/the outside and there's no going back. It's the monster Piltover created and even tho the Undercity suffered unfairly at this point it has become so monstrous there may be no improvement/redemption for it.
And obvs that's the exact same thing that happens with Vander/Silco and Vi/Jinx. However it's also imo completely applicable to Jayce/Viktor and even Heimer/Singed. Jayce and Viktor will only reach their break-up era in future seasons but it's a given this will happen but I know I obvs need to explain the Heimer/Singed example.
Based on what we know about them Heimer is just naturally immortal/long-living, how lucky for him, and completely lacks any ability to relate to beings who from his perspective live short life-spans. Meanwhile Singed is just a human and on top of that he had a 10yo child who died from some kind of disease(maybe?). Currently he is obsessed with discovering immortality: experimenting on ppl, mutating them, resurrecting corpses etc. possibly in an attempt to find a way to heal/resurrect his daughter. And we know him and Heimer were partners and that Heimer didn't help him and threw him out of the university or smth for his research. So the exact same dynamic as the other pairs.
So notice how we've got the cities, and then each city has its storyline, and each storyline has a pair of protags who reflect the conflict between the cities, and then each pair also has the pair that preceded them which also reflects the same conflict. In Zaun all these connections are about family ties: brothers, sisters, fathers/daughters, with inherited political/social roles like the Piltover sympathizer and criminal/revolutionary. Meanwhile Piltover storyline connections are about 'progress': science buddies, mentors and students, with Jayce succeeding Heimer as the barely-scientist-moreso-a-politician and Singed/Viktor being mad scientists. We've even got zaunite 'older siblings' associating with Piltover and piltovan 'younger siblings' being from/associating with Zaun.
Just really nice parallels all around.
But I actually have an honorable mention to add here at the end lol.
Mylo and Claggor. Obvs they don't quite fit cos they never develop into this kinda dynamic and they were never meant to but I can't help but notice the similarities. Claggor being the pure hearted hero archetype, looking like Vander, naturally good fighter, seemingly lacking insecurities, seems like the 'second in command' after Vi (second best with the fighting machine, Vander speaks to him second to get info about what happened), meanwhile Mylo giving off 3rd child vibes, full of insecurities and needing to prove himself, physically looks like a stick bug, a bit of a bully, "weird" lock-picking talents that he struggles with and isn't respected for (like Singed/Viktor's science, Powder's bombs or Silco's dream) that are actually super useful and impressive (like he could have been robbing millions from Piltover banks if he got adopted by Silco instead lol).

bro I love your storys so much😭especially the catvi ones lol just wanted to ask if it was possible since it's winter time, to write a Christmas special with Caitlyn and vi× reader where it's snowing and they're decorating for Christmas and opening presents n'all that holiday related stuff,i would really really appreciate it, idk if it's such a good idea tho lol,but the end of the day it's your choice if you wanna write it or not , and again I love your works, keep doing what your doing,it's literally god work😭🙏
HIII ANON! I love this idea! For those who don't celebrate Christmas, I will be making a more vague/winter headcanons post to make sure everyone is included in some way possible. Happy holidays and New Year to everyone!
Merry Christmas (Ya Filthy Animal) | CaitVi Headcanons
Tumblr media
╰┈➤ PLOT: Headcanons of CaitVi spending Christmas with you!
╰┈➤ WARNINGS: Not Proofread, Sapphic Fluff, No Use of Y/n, Mention of Modern AU
⍣ ೋ Enjoy!⍣ ೋ
Tumblr media
– One thing about babygirl Vi is that she absolutely loves Christmas.
– When she was younger and with her parents, they did occasional Christmas activities, but nothing serious. Then with Vander and Powder, Vi tried to keep the Christmas spark alive for her sister, but eventually, the two of them lost the Christmas spark as they grew older.
– Despite wanting to rekindle her love for Christmas, Vi never had the time or resources to (ya know, being in prison and all).
– So, with you and Caitlyn, she gets to act like a kid again.
– She forces you guys awake super early on a weekend to get a real Christmas tree, cider or hot cocoa, and to shop for some decorations.
– Caitlyn's a casual enjoyer of Christmas.
– Her family celebrated, but celebrating to the Kirammans meant fancy and stuck-up dinners, stiff Christmas dresses, and getting clothes you didn't like as a child.
– Caitlyn much preferred the romanticization of Christmas like baking cookies, taking your partner(s) out into the snow to dance in the streets, reading by the fire, and listening to Christmas songs while decorating the house.
– Also, the Kirammans believed in fake trees to avoid mess and hired someone to decorate the house once they felt Cait was old enough to remember decorating for Christmas. (so like, age 8 is when they began to hire people).
– You can imagine Caitlyn's worry when Vi first brought up chopping down a tree and dragging it into the house.
–– In Vi's words, the trees you see before the tree farm are better in height, thickness, and smell.
A grunt came from the buff pinkette. She lodged her axe into the tree's thick bark, barely making a scratch. "I'm sure, Cupcake. Come on, I've seen movies about this."
"Oh, yeah? And how did that work out for them?" you chimed.
Vi let out a sarcastic laugh. "It went just fine." – –
– After the initial shock was gone and pine droppings were scattered throughout the house, Caitlyn found herself buzzing with excitement. Vi was right. The smell of pine-scented ornaments and sprays was nothing compared to the real thing.
– Just don't tell Vi that.
– When it comes to decorating the house and the tree, you guys have a routine and assigned roles.
– Vi gets the tree, brings it in, and sets it up. You two help her of course. When everything is set up, Caitlyn goes to bake the cookies you guys made last night, Vi cleans up the tree mess (and hides the damage she made on the floors), and you start decorating the mantle.
– When your jobs are completed, you gather to decorate the tree together.
– Each year someone is assigned to put the star on top of the three. This year, it's your turn!
– Vi is a person who puts the star on before the tree is decorated while Caitlyn likes to do it last. As for you, you do whatever makes you happy.
– If you do it before, Vi cheers while Caitlyn recoils in playful disgust.
– If you do it after, Vi will try to coax you into putting the star on top but fails each time. When you finally put the star on the tree, Caitlyn sighs out of relief and takes a step back to admire the tree.
– More like a modern AU of things, VI LOVES HOME ALONE. One is her favorite, and the others are irrelevant to her.
– She wants to name a future child, or pet, Kevin, but you and Cait won't allow her.
– Naming someone, or something, that name puts them up for failure. You already have a rambunctious scamp named Vi, you don't need another named Kevin.
– As for presents, you guys like to do stockings, gift exchanges, and your own gift trade.
– In your household, one person is responsible for the other's stocking. Exp: you would have Cait's, Vi has you, and Cait has Vi,
– Though you guys try to keep it a secret, who had who is obvious. Caitlyn likes to gift thoughtful and useful gifts for the stocking stuffers, Vi just does whatever makes her laugh and what reminds her of y'all.
– One year, Caitlyn got a porcelain broken witch's shoe. The reason? The witch shoe reminds Vi of Caitlyn's heels and the broken part reminds Vi of the one time Cait stubbed her toe so hard that she misshaped the toe of her shoe.
– Vi laughed so hard she was redder than Santa's suit. Meanwhile, Caitlyn looked like she swapped faces with the Grinch.
– As for gift exchanges, Caitlyn's "uppy tighty rich" friends host a Christmas party each year.
– You three dominate the competition by bringing the best and worst gifts ever.
– The worst gifts are funnier ones, courtesy of Vi, and the better gifts you three brainstormed on and spent hours shopping for. (Sorry, Vi)
– Each year, the gifts are a hoot and Vi is thankful at least one of Caitlyn's friends knows how to season food.
– As for your own gifts, you each set a price range for individually bought gifts. This way, you can buy a partner a lot of cheaper gifts or one really big one.
– You three also set out separate times to go shopping in pairs to buy gifts.
– So, you and Vi would go shopping to get a shared gift for Caitlyn, the same with you and Cait for Vi, and then Vi and Caitlyn for you.
– The budget for those gifts is kinda all over the place, but you each have an idea of the price range because you know what the other gifts are.
– On the big day, you three start by changing into your matching PJs, if you haven't fallen asleep in them already, washing your faces together, and herding into the kitchen.
– In the kitchen, Vi is in charge of making breakfast pancakes. She's not in charge because she's good or anything, no. Instead, she's in charge because she tries to make the pancakes holiday-shaped but fails miserably.
– You and Caitlyn take joy in guessing what shape the pancake is supposed to be.
– You focus on the other aspects of breakfast like the meat, eggs, grits or rice, etc. Whatever you see fit, you make.
– This leaves Caitlyn to make the hot drinks which is more like an unspoken rule.
– When the three of you first moved in together, you and Vi would make Caitlyn's coffee for her because she had long nights and early mornings. This would be one thing to take off her morning list, right?
– WRONG.
– With each new attempt, the coffee always came out wrong to Caitlyn.
– At first, the mistakes made sense.
– "Vi, I'm chewing grounds in my coffee." "Darling, this is Earl Grey, not coffee."
– But once you and Vi got the hang of things, her reasons got nitpicky.
– "This roast isn't dark enough." "Too dark." "Is this decaf?" "Is this even the right brand of coffee?"
– Eventually, you and Vi studied her when she made her coffee and jolted the recipe down. But, even following her routine to the exact "T" wasn't good enough.
– – "You know what?" Vi huffed, tossing down the spoon she used to scoop the coffee beans. "I don't want to do this anymore. Day in and day out, we always get her 'order' wrong. I don't think it's worth the extra hour of getting up."
With a heavy sigh, you stare into the empty mug you held. Deep down, you knew Vi was right but you both agreed to take on the challenge and to one day give Caitlyn her perfect cup of joe. It couldn't be the end already...
It's only been a year and 36 days!
"Yeah," you said putting the mug back in the cupboard. "Maybe we're not good coffee makers, Vi." Vi slung her arm around your shoulders, grinning proudly.
"I'm fine with that, Muffin. Are you?"
Feeling some sort of accomplishment stir inside you, you nod and match her grin. "Yeah, actually. Like you said, we get an extra hour of sleep back."
45 minutes later, Caitlyn woke up to no coffee on her nightstand. Relief washed over her and she smiled after coming to. Finally, the war was over.
Caitlyn could make her coffee and have her mornings to herself before going to work.
Here's a little secret about Caitlyn: she didn't want you guys making her coffee in the first place. Her coffee was the one thing she had to control over on weekdays. She didn't want anyone else taking that from her. – –
– Since then, Caitlyn has been in charge of making her own coffee and other hot drinks on Christmas day.
– After eating breakfast and trying to guess the shapes of pancakes, you three gather in the living room and open up stockings.
– Of course, Caitlyn already has the fireplace on and Christmas music playing softly in the background.
– As for opening the actual gifts, Cait's the type to open them up carefully and precisely. Vi is as violent as Jinx when it comes to opening up her wrapped gifts.
– Vi likes to say, "No way!" or laugh really loudly when she gets a gift she wasn't expecting.
– Caitlyn's smile takes over her face, her eyes beaming. Her cheeks get pink as she realizes you and Vi pay more attention to her than she thought and then she says a sheepish "thank you".
– It happens every year and you wouldn't change it for the world.
– When you open your gifts, the girls cling onto each other and giggle when you open a gift they said you weren't getting.
– "HA! Bet you thought you weren't getting that, huh, Muffin?" "That is the right one, yes? We knew you wanted it for a while."
– If they ever remember to get a camera, they forget every year, they take pictures of your sweet face and cute cheeks when you open up your gifts.
– People's hearts and bodies typically warm up after having something hot, but Vi and Cait's warm at the sight of your smile and pure joy.
– Your essence and feeling is the only thing that can't be captured with a photograph, but Caitlyn and Vi are grateful to experience it first hand.

A bit late to this chapter since i've been traveling but it was a TREAT when you dropped it.
Not sure why I found Dain and Cam pummeling each other was attractive to me but I'm rolling with it.
Is there a potential Tessa and Cam pairing I see 👀. I am DYING to know what plans you have for Cam, does he want to be a rider now that he has the freedom??? or is he going to continue assisting in different ways.
After IF, I understood what RY meant that Dain was going to have a redemption arc and I am HERE for your version too (though I was initially hesitant with RY lmao)
As the eldest daughter in an immigrant family, I relate to Mira on a spiritual level, this line 😭. Someone hug Mira PLEASE
I believed in everything they told us. I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought I was making a difference. I thought that I could make my brother’s death mean something by protecting our sister, the only person we both ever loved more than each other, but I couldn’t even fucking do that, Brennan. He told us that having a little sister was the most important thing in the world. There wasn’t a better or bigger job than being a big sister and a big brother.
Xaden really told Brennan, fuck around and find out in regards to his wife and how they make her feel.
I love all the hugs and physical touch that is happening between these two. The slow burn was WORTH IT
Tairn being such a girl dad to Violet, I AM SOBBING. He probably felt so much anger when he couldn't do anything for Vi when she was being tortured.
Brennan telling Vi that she has to finish her education is so older sibling coded. He's trying to pull the older brother giving his younger sibling advice card but Vi is like Im the goddamn queen and your superior officer LMAO.
Vi wanting everyone to love Aretia as much as she does was so gut-wrenching and idk why 😭 (and Mira being extremely uncomfortable in Aretia and Vi being sad about that made ME sad)
My only thought for this line was "whipped"
Xaden only shrugged. “Anything for you.”
Hope you got to enjoy your weekend and relax a bit <3 Thank you for gifting us this chapter, it made my week
The Dain & Cam fight almost involved Sloane and Tessa “watching for technique” 💀
“Staring is rude,” Violet noted mildly as she approached.
Sloane’s face lit up, but she said evenly, “We’re not staring.”
“We’re. . . watching for technique,” Tessa added with a smile.
Liam coughed pointedly.
“Technique,” Sloane agreed unconvincingly.
I’m keeping my Cam plans to myself!! My man isn’t done causing problems yet though
Mira deserves THE WORLD. She is just doing her best to be the best big sister. She needs so many hugs
Xaden was like “I don’t care if we’re friends, I don’t care if she’s your sister, she’s my wife, upset her again and you die” and Brennan took that shit seriously
Tairn!! I felt a lil bad leaving Andarna out of that moment but there’s just something about the Violet & Tairn bond that demanded that needed to be only for them
Brennan: “you should—“
Violet: “no”
Violet finally has a home she’s happy and safe and comfortable in when she’s never had that her whole life and she just wants everyone else to feel the same and get to experience it with her 🥺
Xaden is, in fact, whipped
Thank you!! 🩷🩷

Ok I know this is weird, but can you list all of your characters with siblings? Sorry if that's weird
Oooh this might be a toughie but I will try!!
From characters that have appeared in my games:
Reginald Tetra and Mitzi Tetra are siblings. They are very close in age.
Theodore has an older brother and a younger sister (have not appeared anywhere)
Ryo and Ingram are brothers (found family)
Yoyo views Pogo Gogo as his big sister. Pogo doesn't know this (found family)
Nana, Darwin, and Vis are triplets
I think Clyde has a younger sister but that isn't finalized
Something something Ollie don't worry about it
Vasilis has two "sisters" being Headmistress Aesirel and a girl named Echo, but they aren't biologically related nor is it an adopted or found family thing. It's a cultural thing!
Jaxter has a sister named Bianca. Bianca is older and as adults, already has a toddler.
I hope I didn't forget anyone!!

...Are We the Bad Guys?
Tumblr media
Guys...I was going to be good. I was going to finish a chapter last night and call it good and go to bed. That...SUPER did not happen, because the last few chapters of this book happened which meant that I was just fully up half the night finishing it and I HAVE THOUGHTS. So with that for preamble, let's talk Fourth Wing.
THIS IS A SPOILER-IFIC REVIEW BELOW THE BREAK because I wanna talk about a couple things...so be warned.
Ok, so the TL;DR on Fourth Wing is that it's a romantasy in a military training camp for dragon riders that is full-on enemies to lovers with a protagonist with a disability that reads like Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). It's also very good, I basically inhaled the book around work and life. I also have THOUGHTS about this book.
Violet Sorrengail is our disabled protagonist, and the daughter of General Lillith Sorrengail was supposed to be a scribe, but her mother basically forces her into trying to become a dragon rider, with everyone from Vi's older sister Mira to her childhood best friend and fellow trainee Dain Aetos think will kill her because she is--as everyone in the damn book describes her--fragile. She obviously does not die, but put a pin in Dain for a second, because we're coming back to his ass after we talk about Vi and how disability was handled in this book.
I am...objectively kind of torn on how this book handles Vi's EDS. On the one hand, I am very much here for getting rid of the idea that a disabled protagonist doesn't belong in any type of story you want to tell, up to and including the ones that involve "graduate or die" styles of training camps. Disability is everywhere, and I am so, so very cool with disrupting the stereotype that disabled protagonists either cannot be in these stories or have to die at the end--and Vi is gloriously alive and kicking at the end of the book.
That said...there are like...hard ceilings and absolute limits on what you can push a body to do, and Vi...kind of doesn't hit EDS-related hard limits in a significant way. Some of that is because she works smarter not harder (poisoning her challenges is flippin' inspired), but some of it is also framed in the book as Vi exercising to strengthen her joints and being creative in executing tasks and challenges, which are great and can absolutely alleviate some symptoms. But then she also refuses the magical healing that has kept her functional (not cured, which I appreciate, just functional) for most of her life to avoid the appearance of weakness. So for someone with a chronic illness that also involves a HELL of a lot of pain and joint issues, this read to me like a combination of toxic strength and refusing actual medical care in favor of like...exercising the symptoms away? And while exercise can absolutely help, it being the only thing combined with bailing on medical treatment read really toxic. I feel like a combination of sneaky care hidden from the other cadets and the exercise might have been less toxic feeling. I know that everyone's bodies are different, and some people can probably manage with exercise, but I do not love the vibe I was getting of "sheer grit and exercise can completely replace medical assistance in managing physical disabilities so you don't look weak to people around you."
To be VERY clear: Needing medical assistance to function has no moral value. Needing it to have the best possible quality of life has no moral value. And I don't love when stories put a moral value on physical strength without medical intervention.
I did appreciate that Vi simply could not physically hold her seat on her dragon by brute strength alone, and that she was accommodated with a saddle with actual straps. And the book does go out of its way to highlight that Vi's moral courage and intelligence are ultimately more valuable to the people and dragons who love her than her physical ability. I just could have done without the firing her mender to avoid looking weak.
And this is where we remember that we put a freaking pin in Dain Aetos, because JFC I have not wanted to reach into a book and punch a fictional character as much as I have Dain in a LONG time. Dain spends the ENTIRE book cutting Vi's confidence out from under her because he's convinced she is too physically weak to survive in the Rider's Quadrant and that he's going to have to watch her die. He says this after she survives the parapet. He says this after she survives having her shoulder ripped to shreds in the physical assessment. He says this after she survives the Gauntlet. After she survives Threshing. After she has BONDED NOT ONLY THE BIGGEST MOST BADASS DRAGON IN THE VALE BUT ALSO A SECOND ADORABLE DRAGON. Dain literally has zero faith in Vi's abilities and instead of helping her survive, he actively gets in the way of her physical and emotional growth. I wanted to PUNCH this man in his smug-ass paternalistic fucking face.
And no, y'all, the whole "I would be absolutely destroyed if I had to watch you die because your body can't handle the environment" is in no way an excuse or even acceptable. It's paternalistic and shitty and moves the focus from VI'S ACTUAL LIFE to his man pain. We don't fucking have that in this house.
In fairness, the book also calls Dain out on this. Everyone from Xaden to Tairn spends the book bitching about how Dain isn't helping Vi. The fact that it's mostly the men around Vi bitching about how they're affecting or not affecting her life and choices isn't my favorite thing either, but I'll take the book calling out at least some toxic paternalistic bullshit, especially where it comes to wrapping girls with disabilities in bubble wrap and trying to put them on shelves against their will.
This also facilitates Dain and Xadens' narrative chiasmus (crossing over). Dain starts as the childhood best friend that Vi wants, and ends up worse than anything he ever accused Xaden of. Xaden, of course, starts out as the literal black-hatted villain with every reason to want to murder Vi himself and ends up as the boyfriend. I did appreciate that little narrative peice, because it was pretty well executed throughout, and Vi having feelings about it was very fun to watch.
The other thing about this book that was stunningly well done was the worldbuilding. Rarely do I see "oh shit, we're the bad guys" done this well, and with this many dragons. It was a ton of fun, and I will absolutely be picking up Iron Flame when it comes out in November. I cannot wait to see what's in store for Vi, Xaden, Dain, and Navarre in general.

SAW UR POST WAS IMMEDIATELY INTERESTED :3!!1!1!2!211
can u feed us lazy four info, like how did they meet? fav hangout spot? some random stuff they do together? stuff like that :3 if youve had time to develop them??? considering u probs plan on writing lazy wilro.....
SO. 👏
All of the Lazy Four exist within the same universe. So we have Wilbur, who lives in the Robinson estate on the outskirts of the city. Penny is a pop star originally from Chicago, but now lives in the city due to the rich estates and luxuries. Pop star life, y'know. Violet is a skater girl who goes to Wilbur's school. It should be noted that within Lazy Days, the Parrs DO NOT have superpowers. But, I did give them professions/hobbies which elude to them (Mrs. Incredible is a silk ribbon dancer, for example. Keep this in mind). Last but not least, Hiro is a third generation Japanese-American immigrant living in his grandfather's cafe with his older brother and aunt.
How they met: Well, Wilbur, Violet, and Hiro all go to the same school. So they met there. As for how they met Penny, there is a story there. Because of who Cornelius is, he has quite a lot of connections and "high profile clients" as his PA would put it. A couple of years ago, he was sent on a lengthy business trip. He had to bring Leo (Wilbur's baby brother) along since he was only a year old at the time. Wilbur was 13 about to be 14 when this happened. Wilbur tagged along because Neil promised they'd do something awesome for his birthday, and he didn't let work get in the way of that. This was a trip to Norway, so they figured they could do birthday festivities there as a special occasion. But first, Neil had to meet up with his client, who just so happened to be Penny's father, her manager. While the two men were discussing boring business stuff, Penny and Wilbur were able to hang out. At the end of the ordeal, they had exchanged numbers and kept in touch. Back home, Wilbur (over video calls) introduced Vi and Hiro to Penny, and the rest is history.
Some stuff they do: They mostly hang around the Robinson estate, because the family is fun. Well, also the hot tub and theater. Individually, Violet hangs out at the skate park, Wilbur in the home library, Penny in her garden, and Hiro wherever food is, tbh. Boy can't get enough of sweets. Not related to the kiddos, but Neil became good friends with Helen because they were in the same silk ribbon dancing class. Vi thinks her mother is better/more flexible, but Wilbur laughs in his father being a gymnast, yogi, pole dancer, and silk ribbon dancer. Take that Vi!
Miscellaneous points: - Wilbur is always reading something. Sometimes, he just can't shut up about the newest book he's reading. - Tadashi is still alive! Because I like him. The fire still happened, so Tadashi does have severe burns he has to treat every day. Luckily, Wilbur's father knows a thing or two about treating burns. - Sometimes Violet secretly wishes her siblings could be like Wilbur's. Quiet and polite! - It's pretty well known that Leo only likes to be held by/in the presence of Neil. However, he tolerates Penny and Wilbur. Probably because they were there when he was away from Neil for the meeting. - All of them are babies when it comes to horror. Except for Violet. She loves horror, especially psychological horror akin to Cooking Companions or That's Not My Neighbor. - Penny has three dogs. Bolt (duh), Lightning, and Shock. - If we're talking about Wilro, Wilbur calls Hiro "mio dolce." Half of Wilbur's family is Italian, so he knows some words/phrases. "Mio dolce" is a pet name. It can mean "my sweet", "my love", or "my cake." - Whenever all four of them are in Hiro's aunt's cafe, they ask for the day old donuts. - Violet can't whistle or snap her fingers. - Hiro is only slightly terrified of Wilbur's little sister's (Mazie) pet snake. Its name is Bananaconda. - Yes, Hiro knows how to bake! Instead of being a prodigy in inventing like his bro, he's an advanced baker with very intricate techniques. All figured out by the time he was nine. - Penny became a pop star when she was twelve. She mostly did kid's TV beforehand, before she got her career in music. Think... Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, just without the gross tongue stuff and home wrecking. - Violet does name her skateboards. Her favorite is Pico. - Wilbur is canonically bisexual, Hiro is pansexual, Penny is a straight ally, and Violet is a demigirl lesbian. - Bit of a sad point here, but Wilbur did struggle with an eating disorder (anorexia) when he was 12 and 13. Unfortunately, he inherited his father's body dysmorphia.
In regards to the Wilro fic... It will be inspired by the one Wilro image I did. It will also be pure fluff, since these are teenagers and I'm not about that gross shit! =D They'll be in the Robinson estate, and I'm unsure if we'll see any more Robinsons. We'll see. I gotta do some planning.

The Cycle Repeats: Part VI
One of the key themes of the ATLA franchise is the concept of the Avatar; master of all 4 elements, the fusion of humanity and Raava, the spirit of light and order, whose sole duty is to bring balance to the world, and be the bridge between both the physical and spiritual realms. Along with this comes the idea of reincarnation, which is the premise of the Avatar Cycle, the idea that the Avatar reincarnates in a cyclic order in any of the four nations (fire, air, water, earth). Another concept related to the Avatar Cycle (although originating from the fandom) is the idea of the Avatar fixing the mistakes of their past life, which is often indicated in differences in both habitual circumstances and personalities between both predecessor and successor, and therefore differences in morality.
But what if I were to tell you that the saying "history repeats itself" is also true among Avatar incarnations? Not exactly going the same way, but rather parallels between the lives, personalities, and accomplishments (and failures) of past lives?
In this series of metas, I will be going over parallels (or in some cases, foils) between certain pairs of Avatars that lived decades, or even centuries apart, and yet could not have ever been more similar.
Equivalent Elements II: Avatars Aang and Yangchen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Aang was an Air Nomad born in 12 BG and the Avatar during the Hundred Year War, succeeding Avatar Roku and preceding Avatar Korra. As the Avatar of his time, he was the only person capable of using all four bending arts: airbending, waterbending, earthbending, and firebending. He was also one of a select few Avatars and one of the first in many cycles to learn the ancient art of energybending as well as the first Avatar known to have actively used the technique."
Yangchen was the Air Nomad Avatar succeeding Avatar Szeto and preceding Avatar Kuruk. She grew up in a rather isolationist time for the four nations in the aftermath of the Platinum Affair. After mastering all the elements in her youth, she was eager to make a difference in the world despite her inexperience. Following her confrontation with General Old Iron in Tienhaishi, Yangchen resolved to adapt to the complex political strategy of the four nations, using manipulation, espionage, and deceit to her advantage in an era where loyalty was bought rather than earned.
Here's a thing people need to understand: No two people are exactly the same, inside or out. They might come from a different background, they might look or dress different, they might behave differently, they might even hate ATLA (which is just not cool). And yet, all humans have the same desire: good health and success. They just achieve these goals via different means.
In ATLA, the Avatar's sole goal is to bring balance to both worlds, but each Avatar achieve this goal differently. This is true for both Aang and Yangchen, as despite being from the same nation, unlike their respective successors, they differ significantly in their personal morals.
First, let's get the similarities out of the way. Both Aang and Yangchen are Air Nomads (hailing from the Southern and Western Air Temples respectively) and therefore grew up surrounded by monks or nuns. Both had an older monk/nun and looked up to said figure as a family member (Aang had Monk Gyatso as a father figure, and Yangchen had Jetsun as an older sister). Gyatso and Jetsun were also revered in their own right as spiritual leaders; however, they both sacrificed themselves to defend their fellow people (Gyatso took down at least a dozen Fire Nation soldiers during Sozin's Comet, whereas Jetsun died while accompanying Yangchen during her first journey to the Spirit World). Both were identified at young ages (12 and 11 respectively); although they both began mastery of the four elements later. Finally, both Aang and Yangchen were involved in worldwide crises during their respective tenures at young ages (Aang ended the Hundred Year War at 12 (or 112, depending on how you look at it) and Yangchen was involved in the Platinum Affair at 17).
However, as I mentioned above, Aang and Yangchen differ in morality. Aang grew up believing that all life is sacred, and while Yangchen also had the same belief initially (as seen with her confrontation with General Old Iron), she grew to slowly give them up overtime, believing that being detached from worldly affairs was a detriment to the Avatar's duty to the world. Aang was reluctant to kill Ozai because of his title as the last airbender, and he felt a lot of pressure trying to uphold the legacy of the Air Nomads on his shoulders. Yangchen, on the contrary, had no such pressure, but rather slowly gave up on her spirituality to become the Avatar (she had a freaking god-complex! Who in Tui's gills gave her the right?!).
I think this conversation between them in Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters (3:19) is the perfect example of their dichotomy:
Aang: Avatar Yangchen, the monks always taught me that all life is sacred. Even the life of the tiniest spider-fly caught in its own web. Yangchen: Yes. All life is sacred. Aang: I know, I'm even a vegetarian. I've always tried to solve my problems by being quick or clever. And I've only had to use violence for necessary defense. And I've certainly never used it to take a life. Yangchen: Avatar Aang, I know that you're a gentle spirit, and the monks have taught you well, but this isn't about you. This is about the world. Aang: But the monks taught me that I had to detach myself from the world so my spirit could be free. Yangchen: Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it. Because your sole duty is to the world. Here is my wisdom for you: Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs, and do whatever it takes to protect the world.
(Let's just ignore the fact that Aang is clearly lying about not killing anyone, shall we?)
This conversation makes it obvious that Yangchen's dark side isn't necessarily the culmination of the Anti-Air Nomad, but rather what Aang could have been had he actually killed Firelord Ozai as planned: powerful and venerated, but having long given up spirituality.
To add insult to injury, if you've read the Kyoshi novels, there's actually a glaring reason why Yangchen's advice wouldn't have worked in the long run: Kuruk. In Shadow, it's revealed that Yangchen neglected the spirits, which led to an increase in dark spirits crossing to the mortal world and attacking humans in revenge. Kuruk (then known as the greatest hunter and tracker in history) was forced to hunt them down and (because spiritbending wasn't invented yet) kill them. This caused his physical, mental, and spiritual health to rapidly decline, until he finally died at 33. Had Yangchen treated both sides fairly, her successor would have been spared (yes, her actions killed him). Aang thought that, had he actually killed Ozai, not only would he have broken his vow to the sanctity of life, and thus his culture would become extinct, but (if the Avatar can actually connect to their past lives' memories) he would've also indirectly harmed his successor (Korra) the way Yangchen did to Kuruk.
(Although this is debateable, if this is true then Aang would've either been traumatized to the Spirit World and back, or gathered the courage to call Kuruk out for lying to him. My bet's on the former.)
Therefore, I can conclude that while Aang and Yangchen are from the same nation, this isn't a guarantee that they are exactly the same person. Their different circumstances, and consequently their different views on the world and their duties, helped to shape their unique identities. In the next past, I'll discuss both the similarities and differences between Avatar Aang and his successor Korra, and discussing how the Avatar's tenure can shape that of his/her successor.

Yes, Zuko, how many times do I have to tell you I'm not finished yet? I still need to get to the big part!

Hi Colin, I came across your blog after getting around to playing Control in January and I love seeing all your photos/screenshots of Jesse. I saw through your blog you also talk about how female characters are portrayed in video games, so I wanted to ask you something. I was thinking about gender roles in Control and how I wouldn’t have played this game if the roles were reversed between Jesse & Dylan (I got interested in this game because there’s a female protagonist). I mean, if wanted to see a piece of media where the man saves the woman, I could play like every other video game, movie, book etc.
So you know how in media typically when they have a female lead character they still cater to men and often times (like in Disney princess movies) in order to compensate for having a female lead character they often end up making the rest of the characters as male ones? I was just wondering since I haven’t seen anyone mention this/really unpopular opinion what do you think about instead of a brother they gave Jesse a younger sister? I would have liked that so much and wish they did that. The previous game Remedy did (Quantum Break) had two brothers, it would have been nice if they had two sisters.
Anyways, I was just wondering about your thoughts on this because when when it comes to siblings, I don’t see a lot of sister-sister relations in media. I can only think of like 3 at the top of my head and the lasted one being Arcane. I don’t know if you watched that, but I loved Vi & Jinx’s relationship and it would have been cool to see something like that in Control. In regards to the sequel, I was thinking about Jesse & Dylan’s relationship and how they would go about that because often times in older sister/younger brother relationships they put the sister in a motherly role which I don’t really like.
In the first game, I know myself and others didn’t care for him (and the story at least imo didn’t try to make you care). I know depending on how much emphasis they put on their relationship in the next game, they would have a lot more conflict, but idk I’m not really feeling their relationship as siblings. I think I’m more interested in the fact that it would give her character development/more of an emotional arc, not the relationship itself. Anyways though, at least they have Emily because I loved their relationship, especially in The Foundation. Sorry if this is a weird (and long) question I wanted to know your thoughts and this what you think about them giving Jesse and younger sister instead of a brother? Thanks!
Hi anon *wave* Thank you and I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Control! Funny you mentioned, because I've always loved the evil twin tropes. I still wish Kassandra had an evil twin so Deimos is just her twin sister (so when you go to the protag choice menu it just says "Kassandra" or "The More Unhinged Kassandra"), and to an extent, I wish Jesse had an evil twin sister (does esseJ counts?).
You brought up a good point we often don't see sister-sister relations in media and I too wish we had more (I still need to watch Arcane and play Quantum Break, oops). If Jesse had a younger sister, I'd definitely be more personally invested in the sibling character. I can still relate to Jesse and Dylan sibling relationship as I have a younger brother irl, but I'd definitely prefer Jesse to have a younger sister given the choice (I also have a younger sister irl). Sister relationship is rarely portrayed in games, I just want to see more of it and get my brain chemically altered forever after that (like how we rarely get mother-daughter relationship explored as protags in movies and eeaao hits like a truck). This last point might simply be pure coincidence: I remember Courtney discussed about losing her brother (x), so I'm not sure if that was the inspiration for giving Jesse a brother, this is just my speculation though as there's no official confirmation about it.
The Dylan Easter Egg (x) imo hints the Hiss is coming to NYC along with an eclipse (you can see the One World Trade Center and the Brooklyn Bridge), combined with the Control 2 poster showing that the Hiss is outside the FBC, it's very likely that Dylan is up to no good or maybe it's the crime syndicate group that trades OOPs for profit (who knows what kinda reality portal bending OOPs they're holding). Idk if we will know more about Dylan other than the creepy weird brother who brings troubles that the older sis gotta clean up the mess in the sequel, but yes like you, I hope Jesse got more emotional character development arcs in Control 2, even if it means I'd have to ball my eyes out when I finish the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway I'm still so excited for Control 2 and fingers crossed for more Jessily aaa I'm excited for the sequel!!!!

1, 2, 3, 15, 26 for the ask game :)
oooh thank you so much!
answers under the cut :)
Identity Asks
if someone wanted to really understand you, what would they read, watch, and listen to?
Read: Warm Bodies; anything by Stephen King, Neil Gaiman, or Grady Hendrix, Fablehaven and Wings of Fire to understand my childhood escapism, X-Men comics
Watch: anything X-Men, or really anything superhero in general; Ex Machina, Annihilation, The Fly, Pan's Labyrinth, How to Train Your Dragon, MacGyver (2016), Arcane
Listen to: any metal/punk rock you can find. I have my favorites of course but anything works
2. have you ever found a writer who thinks just like you? if so, who?
I've never met anyone who thinks just like me, but I think @can-of-pringles and @nebulousfishgills and I are pretty like-minded in terms of writing strategy. In terms of seeing myself in what I read, part of why I love Warm Bodies is because of R's internal rambling and struggle with identity/self-recovery (I mean... that character is literally why I ended up calling myself R, though part of that was just realizing it was just a metal-as-fuck name to use), so Isaac Marion goes on the list too.
3. list your fandoms and one character from each that you identify with.
Okay, so I'm not going to list all my fandoms bc there's not always a character I really identify with in them. Sometimes I just like the characters because they're well-crafted or interesting, not because I necessarily relate to them. So I'll only list the ones where I strongly relate to a character
X-Men: Archangel (for a lot of reasons actually, not going to go into that here but his character genuinely got me through some of the worst parts of my life) Star Wars: Ahsoka Tano MacGyver (2016): Mac or Desi The Sandman: Rose Walker or Death of the Endless (protective older sister let's gooo lol) DC: Harley Quinn Marvel/MCU: Loki Arcane: Vi Good Omens: Crowley
15. five most influential books over your lifetime.
ooh, tough one
Warm Bodies series (more impactful than it seems in premise, and helped me understand how i viewed my identity)
Wings of Fire series (just because it was my childhood)
Touching Spirit Bear (first school-assigned book I genuinely enjoyed, found it very impactful)
Twelfth Night (first Shakespeare play I ever enjoyed, sponsored my love of theatre)
Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit (my dad read it to me as a kid, brought me close to him and influenced my geeky interests too lol)
26. how would you describe your gender/sexuality?
genderqueer and bisexual. androgynous presenting, maybe airing on the side of masculine a little. definitely want to present more masc in the future. and I've been questioning whether I'm on the ace spectrum, but I can't tell if that's just me being unsure of what to expect in a serious relationship since I haven't really been in one before

This is a continuation of my discussion of my “compressing the time between Leif getting stuck in snakemouth and the start of the game down to like 10 years so Muse can be around” au that I started over on @enbeemerang’s post. But I didn’t want to take that space up more than I already have lol
So in canon stuff I tend to go with Grandpa being Leif and Muse’s kid, so that would also be the case here. Which if I was writing something of this would mean I’d have to come up with a name for him. so. glad I’m not. But I’d put him in Tod’s spot because 1) he’s about that age and 2) Leif’s “Now, stay out of trouble. Don't worry your mother.” line after the lost toy quest already gets me in the context of his relationship with Tod in canon. Imagining him doing that kind of parental lecture towards a kid he has yet to realize is his own child makes me insane. (also makes for an amusing moment after the initial revelation stuff)
or there’s the alternate version of that quest (that would only happen in iterations where Muse is banished) where instead of running from the Midges he gets stuck in the cave. Team Snakemouth gets recruited to the search mission secondhand. Kid’s pretty shaken up by the time they get to him. Leif does a lot of the calming him (Kabbu or Vi comments on wow you’re pretty good with kids and Leif’s like ...yeah) They take him back to his grandparents (one of them carrying him as he directs, almost falling asleep as they get into town), tearful reunion. They turn to thank Team Snakemouth and stop at seeing Leif who’s dead still, staring at his parents.
I forget if I touched on this in the previous but it’s a much different emotional moment for Leif in any of the reunion scenarios for this, with it being bugs he already is connected to, his immediate family. More persistent guilt about what he put them through, for one. Definitely some awkwardness around their kid. And on top of Muse’s attitude (or treatment if she’s not there) feeding his existing hesitance about Elizant II, he’s also gonna feel more conflicted about continuing to explore because then he’s not being around for his family. Is that just abandoning them again??? (especially since I have a based-in-nothing headcanon that Muse and Leif’s plan when they started having children was going to have Leif doing more of the staying at home taking care of them)
I don’t have anything specific about it really but oough the cordyceps reveal really hits Leif harder when the identity crisis has to answer to there being bugs who knew the Leif from before. “ I am nothing but some...thing... Something that thinks it is him.” but also like. he’s a thing pretending to be Leif to Leif’s closest family, what a monster.
after handing in the first artifact Team Snakemouth immediately runs into Rebecca in the palace. And since I’m going with the headcanon that she was the third member of their scouting team we get family reunion: speedrun edition
slightly off-topic of everything else but I also had the thought that with this compressed timeline Elizant II’s age gives a lot more flavor to things. It works no matter what it is but like. If you want her more sympathetic she was barely an adult when she had to take over and little enough time has passed until canon that it still shows. And otherwise especially with Muse’s reactions/feelings I feel you could do some stuff with her being younger vs the same age vs older
also for anyone who knows and cares about my usual “mothiva’s related to muse”posting: she’s muse’s estranged younger sister in this one.
aaand hollow knight spoilers ahead for the rest of this:
so for the iterations that are “Muse gets exiled and goes out through the forsaken lands and ends up in hallownest,” it’s a rough journey exacerbated by the fact that she didn’t have supplies or prep when Elizant kicked her out. She comes in from the hallownest’s crown/crystal peaks side. It’s some medium amount of time after the ending of the game (godhome but ghost is fine they just have cool void god powers now). And she manages to get at least to the outskirts of dirtmouth. Her appearance causes a stir in general but especially for everyone who’s gonna read into her being a Moth specifically.
Now if I was writing this I would almost certainly ignore the question of potential language barriers completely. But since I’m not, that means they’re going through everyone who knows other languages to find a translator. Most reasonable candidate I think would be Quirrel, although there’s plenty of other options - any of the other bugs who’ve been outside of Hallownest (Lemm probably being my next choice because I’m biased about him. and I think him and Muse interacting would be fun); plus I like the idea that vessels can understand any language, but in that case Ghost and Hollow would only be able to translate one way (assuming they would even be willing to be around her). So eventually it turns into a language exchange with her learning whatever the common hallownest language is and some of them learning bugnish (which makes it easier for Team Snakemouth to communicate when they show up (doing some exploring for the queen I guess). Although when they mention that they’re working for the queen who exiled Muse it makes whoever they’re talking to hesitate about mentioning her)
and yeah for the most part on this it’s just otherwise me dumping all these characters in a salad spinner together and going “nice”
except there’s the variant concept of “the radiance survives as a tiny fragment of Herself and then possesses/inhabits Muse when she shows up because Moth.” Which I have two vague ideas about the when. 1) It takes root when she’s up at the crown by the Radiance statue but doesn’t do anything until the first time she sleeps, in Dirtmouth. And when she wakes up the effects become apparent 2) She goes down below the well and slowly starts feeling weird until she collapses. Either way I think it’d be a “something happens in her mind while she’s unconscious about it but then it’s actually clear what’s going on when she wakes.” Muse is not happy about this. She’s dealing with enough other stuff; she doesn’t need a random deity taking up residence in her head on top of it. Especially one that has all the bugs around her freaking out/hostile toward her now because of it. Two sort of flavors for this as well. 1) Radiance is equally unenthused about the arrangement, did not do it on purpose, did not ask for this, can’t leave, and is basically just exhaustedly resigned to it. 2) Radiance still at the active anger at the Everything. Still didn’t inhabit Muse on purpose in the way like infecting bugs, but yes in the form of purposefully directing Herself to that point, and is trying to do something about this opportunity. She’s not possessing Muse in the sense of being able to outright control her, but She can do some things by force, in brief moments, and also just mess with Muse’s mind. Made harder by Muse fighting Her, though. (And I do think She’d try and bargain with Muse. Don’t You Want To Go Home? I Can Make That Happen. With My Power No One Can Stop You)

William spends his days pretending to be someone else. His latest human form, Hansuke Toudou is a model. After his work, he either spends his time with his close friends, mainly Itachi, or prepares himself for his next meal. He has no shame when it comes to killing others, as he is a ruthless vampire after all. He has gotten away with years of his killings because he simply has his ways and connections. He is always three steps ahead.

i still don't have internet so i didn't manage to set up a carrd as intended :c for now, though, the relevant information is here
i. tyrande was the only daughter of fahlorn and ayla whisperwind. despite the peaceful times, her parents died when she was still young — attacked while outside the borders of azshara's realm. she was looked after by an aunt, mytaena blackstar, her mother's sister. she learned to hunt from her aunt, and quickly proved to be quite skilled at it. none of her family was highborne, neither were they talented with the arcane.
ii. she knows the stormrages since childhood, and anyone who knew them as children would describe the trio as attached by the hip. wherever one of them was spotted, you were certain to find the other two soon after. they were her best friends, her closest friends, the only ones who knew her entirely and completely with no barriers whatsoever, and she loved them both — though given their more similar nature, illidan and tyrande were likely often leading the way into trouble with malfurion trailing after.
iii. when it was time for them to choose their paths, tyrande had no doubt it was priesthood she would choose. her choice was not made out of unyielding faith as much as it was because that was the path that suited her purpose. both a protector at heart and hopelessly incapable of staying outside of action, she sought the sisterhood of elune — to protect others. specially the ones she loved. while malfurion found himself similarly at ease in druidism and wishing the other two to follow him, she never had any true interest in the druidic arts. illidan, the one who remained lost as to which path to follow for longest, would have received nothing but support and reassurance from her. when he found his calling in the arcane, she was as content for him as she had been for malfurion.
iv. the sisterhood took adapting to. it was the first time she didn't have illidan and malfurion with her, and she felt their absence greatly, but she did make new friends among her sisters fairly easily. tyrande showed great affinity for the moon goddess from the start, having a stronger bond to elune than many other, older priestesses. while most rejoiced, there were those envious of her, specially when the high priestess, dejahna, took her under her wing.
v. always worth noting the sisterhood of elune is not like human priest orders. their role in the war of the ancients was so significant because they were both elite troops and healers. they were trained for combat as well as for healing, and tyrande was a skilled hunter even before becoming a priestess.
vi. on the thorny subject of the love triangle: i don't? really see it? as a love triangle? tyrande cared for both of them as friends. she didn't love either of them romantically irrevocably, and if any of the two, i feel she leaned more towards illidan than malfurion, but more importantly, there was a lot of pressure on her related to her making a choice because they were adults and everyone expected her to pick one of the two as her mate. regardless of the choice she'd make, that would have featured heavily on why she chooses at all. still, i think she was closer to illidan, and that this is part of why she only chooses malfurion after the war. in many ways, illidan removed himself from being a choice because tyrande wouldn't agree to the lengths he went for his goals — considering, back then, she still had faith in a better path being possible that did not require the sacrifices he would make.
also relevant to note that i think, in many ways, she feared for him, and that i think all throughout the war tyrande would never have turned her back on him, as seen in the fact she does try to reach out and help him find another path when magic addiction takes its toll on him. which is not to say she didn't care for malfurion, only that i don't think they understand each other as innately as her and illidan did. malfurion is more distant (be it because his concerns lay elsewhere, because he doesn't know how to deal with his crush on her, or whatever other reasons) and often sees things differently (he's critical even of the priestesses fighting, in the books, which is :| ). but ultimately he was also the "safer" choice, still someone she cares about, still someone who knows her better than almost anyone and who she'd trust with everything she has. there's no stating the depth of her hurt when, having trusted that, she's left on her own after the war, without anyone she cares for who really knows her, with him purposefully choosing to leave even though she asks him not to.
vii. which ties into the fact she never ever wanted to be a leader, not even within her own order, much less of her entire people. she was thrust into this role unwillingly, and she embraced it because she loves her people and wanted to protect them. ultimately, though, being high priestess and being without the two people she had always had in her life who she was closest to, and having to deal with war and adversity, all of that hardened her greatly. tyrande was always passionate and decisive and even stubborn, her determination and intensity often leading her to act rashly. but she's not unwise, nor is she uncaring, even if she can be quite ruthless when it comes to protecting her own.
viii. shandris is her daughter. it doesn't matter to her at all she's not her biological daughter, and the fact malfurion was asleep for thousands of years, as well as that he doesn't seem to get that initially, suggest to me that regardless of their relationship as a couple shandris... isn't as much their daughter as she is tyrande's daughter.
ix. i think her distrust of magic following the world almost ending due to her people's misuse of it is in part why she feels betrayed by illidan's actions and decision to try to recreate the well of eternity. that said, while i think she agreed with his punishment being imprisonment, i don't think she would have supported how it was done. maybe it was an oversight on her part, but i think it's also a very emotional reaction, that she didn't want to see him after that. he was her closest friend, and she closed up in face of that disappointment. she left it in other people's hands, and she never doubted malfurion would ensure illidan would be treated fairly, even if that was not what happened.
for ages, she's unaware of whether he's alive or dead. the lack of visits on her part, even after thousands of years, strikes me as odd; specially with how lonely she feels while ruling her people alone. i do think the state of his imprisonment, as well as his status, may have been kept from her — either by maiev, malfurion, or both. in wc3, she seems surprised to find his prison, and she doesn't know what the door to it is until she's told, after which she immediately says they should release him. when she orders the wardens to do so and they refuse, tyrande outright kills them to free him. and while her words suggest illidan is meant to be used as a weapon, i don't think she'd have wanted to free him for that reason, and rather that that's only what she uses as excuse. she wouldn't have killed her people to free him if she didn't care. deep down, it was also about freeing her friend, which is obvious in how much faith she has that illidan will show he has more than earned his freedom.
x. she rebuilds the sentinels to ensure her people will have enough of a defense, specially after they renounce the magic they relied on for so long during azshara's reign.
xi. have i mentioned how lonely she is after the war of the ancients when she doesn't have her closest friends and people look up to her as a savior and holy person and not just a person and she has no one she can rely on while everyone relies on her. have i mentioned how lonely it is, how much it hurts, that she has to remain strong and confident because that's what others need of her. because. that's an important thing.
xii. the differences between tyrande and malfurion are greatly exacerbated when he and the druids are awakened after the long vigil. when she says 'Long ago, I swore to protect this land, Malfurion. I never had the luxury of sleeping through times of great peril.', it's sharp and it's honest. she's aware of the druids' strength and the emerald dream's importance, but she's had to deal with hardship all this time in the real world. and there's also resentment, for sure, towards his choice to leave her when their people needed them to rebuild and she had needed him most. like... that five minutes later he's trying to forbid her from freeing illidan doesn't make it better, 'only the goddess may forbid me anything' etc.
xiii. when illidan inevitably chooses to become even more demon to fight the demons, she isn't sure she made the right choice in freeing him. i do think she has a hard time believing all that change doesn't change who he is, but i don't she hates him for sacrificing his very soul to protect their land. i think she doesn't understand completely, and i think she grieves. she does think her friend is lost.
xiv. she's so distrustful of orc and humans. she'd work with neither given the choice and it's really only desperate need that makes her willing to work with thrall and jaina.
xv. when illidan comes back attacking maiev and malfurion goes deal with him, tyrande 100% goes too because she feels responsible, since she freed him. but honestly she's team fuck maiev all throughout ksndfkjsdnfkjsn and if not for malfurion interfering, i do think she'd have tried more forcefully to stop maiev from pursuing illidan after he saved her and things were okay ish between them.
xvi. while this changes through the years, tyrande is deeply compassionate. she's not someone who ignores those in need. it's why aiding kael was an obvious thing for her to do, regardless of what maiev thought.
xvii. tyrande was in stormwind when teldrassil was first attacked. her immediate desire was to go and join the battle, and the only reason she did not was due to a plea from the messeger that first brought her the news. she was asked to stay instead and receive the refugees of her people, so they would find at least one familiar presence to welcome them. nevertheless, eventually she did go to teldrassil to aid those who yet remained.
xviii. her choice to spare saurfang would be regretted later, but it was rooted not only in the orc having spared malfurion's life, but that he was one of the main generals leading the attack. at that point, she knew at least a portion of her land would be lost, and she hoped granting mercy to him would in turn lead him to have the horde show mercy on any of her people who didn't leave teldrassil in time. that the world tree would be burned was unthinkable to her, even in a dire moment like that.
xix. tyrande has led her people through great loss before, but by this point she is fundamentally changed, and the cruelty that act showed only makes her more merciless. she knows the night warrior ritual is dangerous, and that it'll have a great cost, be it her life or her very soul, and she doesn't care. she'll gladly pay it, as long as it gives her the power to get the justice for her people no one will help them achieving.
xx. the night warrior is initially presented as one of elune's own faces, a warrior facet that the goddess' followers associate with bravery, but others, like malfurion, look at with fear. later, maiev describes the night warrior as the incarnation of the goddess' wrath. when tyrande makes the ritual, she calls upon elune for justice, vengeance and certainly no lack of fury. i do think she resents elune for not protecting her people and teldrassil, and i think tyrande resents it even more because elune continues to heed her requests immediately while letting her people die.
xxi. either way, i don't think those are fundamentally incompatible portrayals and hold both to be true, as there are reasons for the different views on what the night warrior was. but from that point onward, i don't follow canon. i'm not at all interested in the narrative it was too much power for her to handle or that harming people who severely harmed you is being just like they are. what i will write the night warrior as is a corruptible force, which tyrande is only able to use in the first place because of her attunement to elune and the fact her own feelings were already well aligned with the goddess' wrath. however, the change inevitably enhances those feelings, as well as makes her inevitably bound to spill the blood of the enemies of her people. it is a darker turn, and one of which there's no going back, but it does not cause her to lose herself entirely. she is still capable of great love, even if not of the same compassion she displayed in the past. but then again, would that change in face of what she suffered, even without the night warrior change?
xxii. were elune to reveal she purposefully let the kaldorei die to help sb in shadowlands, tyrande would renounce her deity entirely. as of bfa she already had big issues with elune, and that would be the last straw. purposefully letting her people die is grounds for god killing tbh
xxiii. anyway i need better structured/more in depth stuff for where she'd be currently, but the tldr of it while i'm mobile bound is that she remains the night warrior, elune is on thin fucking ice, and the night elves would have either left the alliance officially or fractured further, with those under her leadership leaving the faction behind. the alliance did nothing in their hour of need, and helped the horde deal with yet another problematique warchief instead. tyrande will not forgive that, and shandris alone cannot make amends. both factions only brought her people trouble and she wants both sides dead for the most part. she would maintain good relationships with gilneas, as well as some of the other races, but humans and forsaken alike can disappear from the face of azeroth for all she cares
xxiv. i think there is something of supernatural in her after becoming the night warrior, in a very 'vengeance spirit' esque manner, except she's alive and bound to an entire people. i like to think it did make her a sort of eternal being that will always watch over her people and bathe in the blood of their enemies, but that's just a thought for now

Caitlyn and Sexual Orientation
Tumblr media
Mun note: Been wanting to make this one for a while since when I first started writing Cait, I wasn't sure how I wanted her to be in terms of her love life
Tumblr media
Romance was something dismal to Caitlyn, to put it lightly. She had grown up reading books of any and all genres and that included romance novels. She wouldn't read them often since when she read stories, she wanted to be able to relate to at least one of the characters in order to enjoy it. That would later change as she got older as she would become more open to different perspectives and ways of thinking, but nonetheless, Caitlyn never related to the characters in romance novels.
At the same time, something in the back of Caitlyn's mind also prompted her to be a hopeless romantic. How she longed to fall in love the way others did so easily. She believed being that way would make her feel normal as she generally didn't feel normal as was. But that was a whole different issue. In terms of love, Caitlyn understood the different types but what she didn't understand was why she couldn't fall in love like others.
In her journey through her love life, Caitlyn quickly realized that she had no attraction to men. Even if she had forced herself to (which she didn't), she knew that if she was ever to find a partner, they were not going to be a man. Caitlyn found women pretty, beautiful and most important kinder than any man (excluding her father and Jayce. They were family). That part of her love life was easy to figure out but the rest was a blur. Caitlyn had spoken to her family, first about being a lesbian and second about how she didn't really feel romantically to anyone. Her mother, as always, didn't understand right away but didn't put her daughter down for it. People experienced love differently and that was okay. Her father had the same philosophy but he wanted to do more to help. He just wasn't sure how. Jayce, the ever loving big brother he was, did all he could to help his little sister, even going as far to to take library trips with Caitlyn on his breaks.
It was then that they determined that Caitlyn was asexual and even then it took until adulthood for Caitlyn to fully understand and accept her identity. While she and her family believed her to be asexual, Caitlyn later found out that she was in fact not asexual, but demisexual. Caitlyn wanted to be close to her partner, to know everything and anything about them before she even thought about anything sex related. When she had gained a partner (Vi), Caitlyn found that she was comfortable indulging in anything sexual with Vi but it couldn't be too much. To this day, Caitlyn is still figuring out different aspects of her sexuality and love life and she's glad that her family and partner as so understanding of her self discovery.

i want to ramble about characters so it is now kris time
under a cut because this got about 10x longer than i expected
kris here is daphnes older sister and daphne is my johto protag oc, though kris is still important. it's also important that they're both originally from sootopolis in hoenn and wallace's nieces.
so it took a while for beverly (and ex husband) to realize that kris had psychic powers similar to her little siblings. daphne and [redacted] both had very outward powers while kris' is very inwards.
whenever she rambled about people with strange names they chalked it up to imaginary friends. it was only once they realized 2 outta 3 had powers that they looked into kris and realized she did not have a small army of imaginary friends.
so, tangent. in my verse, the dream world is sort of the distortion world. its a part of the distortion world that human minds can reach and navigate, though not consciously. it's outside of normal space and time so those who can naturally reach it tend to get prophetic visions.
so kris' power is that she can see the past, and occasionally the future, in her dreams. she has no control over what she sees though she tries sooo hard to. the future flashes are also just that. flashes. she sees a flash of a scene and knows x will be at y at exactly 2 47pm, sunday march 30th 2028. and thats it. why are they there? how did they get there? why that spot? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
anyways this gave kris a strong interest in history for obvious reasons. related to the sootopolis thing, she was close with her uncle wallace as he was very well versed in history and myths and was always happy to tell them to her. little kris wanted nothing more than to join her uncle as a guardian of the cave of origin
and then her family moved to johto.
kris was Not Happy. at all. she was 10 and had a whole life in hoenn. friends, a goal, she was even planning on going on a pokemon journey soon. for reasons related to [redacted], beverly was Very Opposed to the idea of kris staying in hoenn while beverly and daphne left for johto. she forced an angy kris to move there with them.
as a parting gift, wallace gave her a feebas egg (which got the attention of recently moved in to mew bark professor elm) and when it hatched, the second feebas was considered old enough to battle kris yeeted herself out of new bark town to tour johto.
(kris and beverly had argued basically the entire time in between. beverly was against her going out while kris had a insatiable curiosity. kris didn't give beverly any notice before she left. just went yea im going on a journey now and walked out the door)
johto was not hoenn but it was nice. in azalea town, kris met ethan (who's grandparents ran a daycare near goldenrod) and the two quickly bonded. they both had 'useless' starters (feebas and abra) and met after being made fun of by the same chump.
neither really had any goal. they wanted to travel and experience johto. and they did! they went all over johto and kanto together. they even managed to find and revive matching fossil pairs.
when they were 13, they met lyra, a rather suspicious but sweet girl who was into contests. since lyra had more of a concrete goal than them, they let her take the lead. after finding out that kris was from hoenn and had multiple famous coordinators in her family, they hopped on a boat to a new region! kris was delighted to finally have her hoenn journey! especially with such good friends!
by the time they returned home, they were 15ish. ethan had kept in touch with his grandparents, kris.... not so much. there was some yelling when she got home. especially about going to a different region. beverly hadnt even known about that until wallace called her like 'kris is in my house and eating all my food.' it took a few months for them to get into a good spot because both are very stubborn women. but they did, eventually, sort of make up.
but kris came out of her journey with 2 goals. 1, hone her powers so she can purposefully visit specific pts in time in her dreams and 2, find suicune.
the first was a natural step up from just enjoying her powers. she knew from studying with morty that it would be difficult if not impossible, but she could try. specifically, she wanted to learn how to bring back old, extinct evolutions. she had a stantler and she wanted to evolve it into a wyrdeer.
the second was because of a chance encounter. while in kanto, she ran into the legendary beast suicune. it let her get close and even pet its mane before seemingly realizing something and running away. eusine ran in not too long after and the two became rivals in searching for the beast.
to help with those goals, she interned under professor elm. her interest was history and extinct pokemon evolutions, but it was a good opportunity.
it did, eventually, help her get a position under professor rowan, the expert in pokemon evolution. she studied under him for several years (including during the whole team galactic fiasco lol) before branching off into her own thing.
her, ethan and lyra are a Unit (romantically? platonically? qpr? who knows! they think its funny to be so mysterious) so when Lyra managed to get a spot in the hoenn contest circuit the other 2 went with.
that was fine with kris. now she could fulfill her childhood goal and study under her uncle. having access to ancient sootopolitan texts was also a boon to honing her powers (the suicune thing had been resolved by then. celebi time travel stuff).
aaand thats about it! ^.^ yay kris!
