Love letter | Quinn Hughes
Tumblr media
summary — in which quinn is in love with y/n the social media worker for the canucks.
pairing — quinn hughes x reader
words — 2955
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
You couldn't choose who you fell in love with.
It usually happened so quickly that you hardly noticed and couldn't do anything about it.
It was actually a nice feeling to be in love. You had the feeling that the world suddenly became carefree and you walked around with a good feeling.
You were happy to see the person again and to be near them, while the warmth shot up your cheeks and your stomach tingled.
That's exactly how Quinn felt at the moment. He was in love.
A few weeks ago, he had fallen in love with the young woman y/n, who worked in social media for the Canucks.
In a joint video, in which the young woman had asked him countless questions to create content for the Canucks fans, the two of them had had a lot of fun and occasionally got a little closer to each other, so that the odd physical contact was inevitable.
Since then, Quinn had been thinking about the young woman almost constantly.
His teammates Elias and Brock would often catch him looking over at the young woman during training, who would take photos or videos and then post them on social media channels.
This was the case again today. Practice was in full swing as Quinn gripped his racket tighter and scanned the ice ring for the woman who was turning his head.
It took him a few seconds to spot her. She was standing there with a young man Quinn had only glimpsed so far and seemed to be laughing happily about something.
Every now and then, the stranger would touch her, causing Quinn to unconsciously tighten his grip on his bat and his eyebrows to furrow slightly.
"Hey man, you're staring again." Elias came to stand next to Quinn on the ice, so Quinn saw Elias adjusting his helmet out of the corner of his eye.
Quinn knew he didn't need to give Elias an excuse, because his best friend knew about the young woman and Quinn's feelings.
A few days ago, Elias had caught Quinn staring and then confronted him, but Quinn had folded not long after and told Elias everything.
After all, there were no secrets between the two best friends.
"You should finally ask her out."
Now Elias stood in front of Quinn so that he could no longer look over at the woman who had taken a liking to him.
"Elias, I-I..." Quinn began to give his team colleague another excuse, as he had done the last few times.
But he raised his gloved hand to indicate Quinn should be quiet.
As Elias began to speak, he gave the captain a serious look.
"Quinn, you have a different excuse every time. I can see how smitten you are. But the longer you hesitate, the less chance you have. I hate to say it, but I guess that guy over there is trying to get to her himself."
With a nod, Elias gestured over to the young woman and the red-haired man, who had come a little closer to her and kept grabbing her by the arm.
From a distance, Quinn couldn't interpret the expression on the young woman's face, as she was standing with half her back to him.
"And how am I supposed to do that? Just run over and pull her away from the redhead?"
A nervous expression formed on Quinn's face. The thought of simply walking over to her and approaching her made him start to sweat.
He wasn't good at approaching women, so the thought of talking to the young woman made him want to flee.
"That's actually how you do it, yes. But I have another idea." A grin formed on Elias's face as he stepped a little closer to Quinn and then whispered something in his best friend's ear.
And this idea appealed to Quinn so much that he decided to put it into practice.
"Good morning" a smile came to your lips as you greeted your colleagues and then slipped inside.
"Good morning, y/n! Good to see you." One of your colleagues, Lucy, ran up to you beaming and then pulled you into a tight hug.
Ever since you'd taken the social media job with the Canucks, Lucy and you had become instant friends.
Since then, you've been more or less inseparable. Lucy also worked for the social media team.
She usually took over the press conferences or was there for the post-match interviews, while you took care of the social media channels and shot the occasional content video.
The brunette put her arm around you as you walked side by side through the building to the small office where you had made yourselves comfortable.
The office wasn't very big, so only two desks fitted in opposite each other and two small, cozy armchairs had found their place at the other end of the wall.
Despite their small size, you loved the office more than anything, even if you spent more time on the road than in the office.
"What's on your agenda today?" You checked in with your colleague and best friend as you opened your office door and slipped into the light blue room.
On the wall behind your desk was a huge Canucks logo painted on the wall, while on the other blue-painted walls were some pictures of the team that you had taken yourself.
"I've actually just got some paperwork today and need to make a few phone calls for upcoming interviews, you?" Lucy dropped into her desk chair while you carelessly threw your jacket onto one of the chairs and then walked over to your desk.
Before you could even begin to reply, a white envelope lying on your desk caught his attention.
It wasn't unusual for you to receive mail in the morning, but this letter was different to the mail you usually received.
You could feel that directly. Slowly, you walked over to your desk as you answered Lucy curtly.
You didn't want your colleague to get suspicious.
Your name was written on the letter in curved handwriting. There was no sender or indication of where it might have come from.
This led you to conclude that this was a personal letter.
Your curiosity grew as you began to examine the letter, but made no attempt to open it.
Who wrote you a letter?
You carefully picked up the letter. It was quite light and you could feel a note through the thin envelope.
"Who did you get mail from?" You suddenly heard Lucy's voice, who had more or less caught you in the act.
"Oh, just from a customer, nothing important," you babbled and opened a drawer in your desk to carefully put the letter inside.
Your curiosity wouldn't diminish over the next hour, but you wanted to read the letter in peace and quiet, so you had to wait until Lucy left the office and you could finally be undisturbed.
But you didn't know how agonizingly slow the time would be until then.
Four agonizingly long hours passed before Lucy finally made the effort to leave your shared office to have a conversation.
After the door had slammed shut behind Lucy, you jerked out the letter, which you carefully opened and pulled out the neatly folded paper with your heart beating faster.
With trembling fingers and increasing nervousness, you unfolded the paper before placing it on the desk in front of you and began to read.
Dear y/n,
I keep looking at you, but can't touch you.
You don't know, how much l want to. want to be near you, want you to look my way.
A moment alone with you, would be beautiful. A moment alone with you, would feel eternal.
You skimmed over the words again and again. Your heart kept leaping in your chest as you read them.
You had never received such words before. In the past, you had always found it very cheesy when your friends told you that they had received love letters or wrote them themselves.
But now that you had your first love letter in front of you, it warmed your heart.
It was really sweet to read these words that were addressed directly to you.
You didn't know who this letter was from, but you wished it was a special person.
This one particular player called Quinn Hughes.
The first time you had made a video with him for social media, you had immediately noticed how well you Both got on and you had even gotten a little closer to each other at times.
Since then, you've often thought about the captain and occasionally caught yourself looking over at him and staring at him for a few seconds, lost in thought.
But what if the letter wasn't from Quinn at all, but from Alex? Alex had been very close to you recently and you had caught him looking for physical contact again and again.
Alex was a really nice young man, but you just wasn't attracted to him.
The thought that the letter could be from Alex made your face contort slightly and you put the letter aside.
Your fingers reached for the envelope, which you began to shake and shortly afterwards a small Post it note in the shape of a heart fell out.
You had completely overlooked the post it so far, so you reached for the pink note with a pounding heart and turned it over to reveal the writing.
If you're brave enough to find out who I am, meet me in the parking lot at 7 tonight.
Once again, no signature under the message. There wasn't even a single letter that would have given you any idea who had written you this sweet letter.
Your heart was almost pounding against your chest as you glanced at the bottom of my computer screen to see what time it was.
By now it was 6:30pm and so you still had some time before you would meet the unknown love letter writer.
Nervously, you started to slide around a bit on the black office chair.
You were really curious to find out who was behind the sweet lines.
But even though the message was really sweet, you were afraid that it might just be a joke.
After all, the Canucks boys had the occasional challenge and banter amongst themselves.
But had you really become one of her victims? With the best will in the world you couldn't really imagine that, as everyone was incredibly nice to you and treated you as if you'd been part of the team for ages.
Of course, you never know what makes other people tick and even though you couldn't imagine for the life of you that this letter was just a joke, you decided to be careful.
But despite all this, you wanted to know who was behind the letter and so you decided to go to the place where it was said and find out who it was.
Your heart beat a little faster against your chest with excitement and nervousness.
You hadn't mentioned the letter to Lucy once, so you had to come up with an excuse to more or less get rid of Lucy at the end of the working day an hour ago, as she was desperate to have a drink with you.
The last hour that you had spent alone in your office had gone by rather agonizingly slowly, even though you had already prepared a post or two for the next few days on social media.
But now it was time to find out who had written you the letter.
With every step you took closer to the parking lot, your heart began to beat faster and faster, making you feel like it could jump out of your chest at any second.
You buried your hands, which had become sweaty again, deeper into your jacket pockets, where your right hand played with your bunch of keys.
You were incredibly nervous, so your hand needed something to do and you were a little more distracted.
When you arrived at the parking lot, your eyes wandered nervously back and forth.
In addition to your car, there were four other cars in the parking lot, but you couldn't identify their owners.
Since you didn't know exactly where to wait in the not-so-small parking lot, you positioned yourself a little more centrally in the large parking lot so that the unknown person could easily spot you.
A glance at your cell phone display showed that it was still five minutes until 7 pm.
You used the time to take a few more deep breaths and try to calm yourself down as best you could.
Luckily, it wasn't a dark time of year, so you didn't have to be afraid of the parking lot, which was usually only dimly lit by a few lanterns in winter.
Although the weather was pretty gloomy today and the clouds were increasing, it was bright enough that you had a good view of all the creepy corners and only had to run a few meters to your car if necessary.
Your eyes scanned your surroundings and every time footsteps came closer, you looked hopefully in the direction they were coming from.
But none of them paid any attention to you and shortly afterwards, all but one of the other cars pulled away.
So the last car, which was not too far away from yours, had to be the car of the man who had written you the letter.
A few more minutes passed, during which the nervousness began to creep up inside you again.
And then suddenly the time had come.
From a distance, you could recognize someone. The person was wearing a dark blue hoodie that clearly stood out.
His hood was pulled over his head and his gaze was slightly lowered, so you couldn't tell who it was yet.
On his shoulder was a sports bag, on which you could see the Canucks logo from a distance.
So it was a player, you thought, as the stranger came closer and closer to you and your nervousness grew so much that your heart began to pound in your chest again.
He seemed to be moving in slow motion and took forever to get to you, so you started moving without thinking twice and ran towards him.
When the two of you finally came face to face, the stranger slowly lifted his head and pulled the hood off his head, revealing thick brown hair.
And your heart literally skipped a beat as you struggled not to clasp your hands over your mouth.
Because standing in front of you was none other than Quinn Hughes.
The man you had gotten a little closer to some time ago.
The man you got on well with straight away.
The man who made you laugh.
The man you couldn't stop thinking about.
"Quinn..." His name left your mouth in an almost whisper.
The person opposite you nodded in response, a shy smile on his lips and he began to clutch the handle of his sports bag like a lifeline.
Suddenly he seemed so shy and embarrassed. Very different from your video shoot.
He cleared his throat. "Hello, y/n."
"The...the letter...it's from you?" To be on the safe side, you checked again. There was a little fear in your voice because you wanted the letter to be from him.
"Yes, I wrote the letter."
Embarrassed, Quinn looked at you and ran his free hand through his thick hair, brushing a few strands that had fallen into his eyes out of his face.
"Wow...I mean...those words really touched me" You babbled on, which made Quinn's cheeks turn a light shade of pink.
"Really?" he asked hopefully. He couldn't seem to believe that you were reacting so positively.
You began to nod eagerly.  "Yes, really!"
Quinn began to almost beam and seemed to spend some time searching for the right words, which made you slightly nervous.
"I'm not really good at talking, that's why Elias gave me the idea of the letter. I thought you thought this was just a joke and you weren't even going to show up, but I'm really relieved you're here."
Now it was Quinn who was babbling nervously as his left hand moved to the back of his neck, where he began to scratch himself in embarrassment.
"Really? I thought it was a joke too, since the name wasn't signed. But I was too curious and wanted to see who was here."
A nervous laugh leaves your lips, causing Quinn to start laughing as well.
"Wow...that's really something."
Quinn smirked slightly before gathering all his courage and finally the sentences he would have loved to ask you already left his mouth.
"Y/n I know this might be risky because you work for the same team as me. I don't know exactly what the contracts and agreement are here, but I think you realize there's something between us too, don't you? Would you...would you go out with me?"
His eyes looked at you with an almost hopeful expression, while your heart stumbled again and you began to feel the warmth rush to your cheeks.
And it actually didn't take you long to give Quinn a suitable answer.
Because the answer has been on the tip of your tongue for a long time and you were finally able to say it out loud.
"I would love to go on a date with you, Quinn."

Meet the family

Tumblr media
Going from New York to Michigan was not a long flight by any means. But going from Scotland to New York to Michigan in less than 70 hours was quite the heat, even for Y/n. It was around 9:00 pm in Michigan by the time Y/n arrived. She could have stayed in New York for the night, but when the other option was seeing Luke, she will always choose that option.
She was walking out of the airport now, looking around for the car Luke said he would be in. She spotted the type of car twice already, being let down both times when neither contained her boy. Finally she spots the head of curls, glad he clearly hasn’t seen her yet as she drags her suitcase behind herself. Clearly hearing the loud sound of the wheels on concrete Luke’s eyes shoot to where the sound is coming from to see what crazy manic is running in a parking lot, only for him to find out it’s his crazy maniac.
When she’s close enough Y/n drops the bag and jumps into the boy’s arms, her sweatpant clad legs wrapping around the tall boy’s hips, his hands dart to the back of her thighs in order to make sure she doesn’t slip off him. Tugging her up to wrap her legs around his torso now and her face buried in his neck. Leaving soft kisses and taking in the distant scent of his cologne.
Mumbled against his neck, her lips tickling the boy, Luke can just barely make out the words; though he knew what they were given he felt the same, “I missed you.” “I missed you too, and I love you. So much.” He replies, talking into her hair. “I love you too.”
After a few minutes, and a car honking, the couple finally broke away from the hug. Luke lifted her suitcase into the back, as well as opened her door like the gentlemen he was. They talked back and forth and catching up with one another, what they hadn’t already said over their many calls, texts, and facetimes.
“I’m excited to meet your family. Do you think they’ll like me? I mean I know you’ve said that they know of me and like me, but that’s as who I am to the public. Have you told them anything about me me?”
“I’ve only told them that you’re my girlfriend, though they didn’t believe me which I don’t blame them for because sometimes I don’t believe it. And the last day or so they’ve asked constant questions.” “Like what?” “Like if I love you” he says in a teasing voice, as if he just wants to mention he loves her any chance he gets, “Did you tell them you do?” “Yes.”
-
Luke opened the front door, allowing Y/n to go inside first while he drags her suitcase behind them with one hand and leading her in with his other hand on the small of the back. Kicking off his shoes he calls out for his family until he hears laughter coming from the backyard. Showing the girl to his room, he let her put her stuff away and into more comfortable clothes, before meeting his family.
Luke walked into the backyard first, pulling Y/n by their joined hands behind him. It was Dylan who noticed the couple first, elbowing Ethan and Rutger who got to the house last night.
“Oh- fuck!” Ethan’s words got the attention of the rest of the group, heads turning to face the back door the two were walking away from now.
“Hi! I’m Y/n.” The girl awkwardly waved, Ellen could tell the girl was nervous so she jumped up to greet her, smiling when she saw her son’s hand in the girl’s. “Hi, Y/n, I’m Ellen. Luke’s mom.” “Oh, of course. He’s told me so much about you!” The older woman brought her into a quick hug, shocking the girl even after Luke warned her. “And this is my husband, Jim.” Said man shakes the girl’s hand from his seat. “And Jack and Quinn.” She said as she pointed to the respective boys, “Mom-” “Okay, Lukey! I was just trying to make her comfortable.” The little interaction between Luke and his mom brought a smile to Y/n’s face, finally getting to see her boy in his natural habitat.
-
The night couldn’t have gone better, in everyone’s eyes, though Luke could have gone without a few of the embarrassing stories his brothers and friends told. Quinn noticed, when Jack was telling a story of young Luke having a massive crush on his now girlfriend's many on screen characters, his little brother’s hand searching for the girl’s playing with her fingers and her rings. It was those little moments that made him realise the seriousness of the relationship that he hadn’t heard of until three days ago.
Long gone were the days Luke would tell his brothers every little thing, needing advice on every decision he made. He was grown, got into a serious relationship without his brother’s input, with a girl perfect for him. Who had been begging to meet him and Jack as they heard on the facetime. And when the girl got up to help Ellen in the kitchen, Luke sweezed Y/n’s hand and watched as she walked up the backstairs talking to their mom, as if he couldn’t bear time away from her.
“I still don’t fucking belief it.” Dylan said, causing Luke to roll his eyes while he mutters something about Dylan under his breath that causes Rutger to laugh.
Quinn, deciding to break it up before it starts, says from across the fire, “I like her. She’s good for you, Lukey.” “Yeah. And she’s not what I thought she would be like.. In a good way.” Jack piggybacks on Quinn’s thought. Light red invades Luke’s cheeks hearing his brother’s approval of the girl he loves and cares for so much, even more so when Jim adds, “She fits right in with us. Glad to welcome her to the family.”
-
“I’ve never seen Luke like that before.” The woman’s words bring a smirk to Y/n’s face, hearing his mom say it solidified Luke’s words of ‘never being this in love before’, “I mean, he’s never brought a girl here-” “I didn’t know that.” “Oh yeah. Never to the lake house, he’s always said Lake house was family and friend’s time.” Her smirk turns into a full on grin at that.
“That’s how I know he really loves you.”
-
Y/n woke up to the subtle bumps of Luke’s nose against her neck as he adjusted his position to curl further into his girl. The feeling of strong arms were warm around her torso, fingers tracing different shapes onto her skin, after a moment she realised he was writing his name. Turning to her other side to now be facing Luke, the girl brings her own hands to trace up and down the boy’s bare chest.
“Good morning.” “G'morning, darling.” Luke replies in his deep and raspy morning voice while his body shivers slightly at the feeling of the girl’s light touch.
After laying together as they woke up, the couple finally started getting ready for the day, the boy grabbed her hand as they made their way downstairs. Reaching the bottom they saw most of the boys in the kitchen eating the pancakes Ellen made this morning before she and Jim left for the day.
“Morning, love birds!” Rutger got a smack upside the head from Luke for that one.
As the couple got their food and sat at the table the other boys were going over the plans for today. Something Y/n didn’t think they really had to ‘go over’ as they were just spending all day on the lake.
-
The idea of spending all day on a boat with her boyfriend’s friends and family she's just met, the possible awkwardness that there was no way of escaping was scary. But the day was going great, Y/n was only nervous for the first few minutes plucking at her nails Luke quickly noticed, grabbing her hand so she wouldn’t be able to any longer. Something that didn’t go unnoticed by his older brother’s.
Y/n was in a deep conversation with Trevor and Cole about what it was like to film the All Too Well short film, Luke, having heard all about it before, was zoned out twisting the girl’s hair around his finger as he listened to her voice. Every once in a while he would add to whatever his friends on the other side of him were talking about, but most of his attention went to the girl.
It was Jack this time that threw the pop can tab off his beer at his older brother who was driving the boat, getting his attention and directing his eyes to their little brother’s actions. Seeing their little Lukey staring at the girl he had a crush on since he started liking girl’s with the biggest heart eyes as she talks to his friends, with so much love in his eyes they knew she was the one.
There was no way, no matter what they went through, if there were hard times and rough fights, they would make it through it. You didn’t have the love they had for each other for just anyone, this was special.
Luke was grown. He had effortlessly found his one at age twenty, really fourteen if you think about it, and his brother’s couldn’t be more happy for him.

WANT ME DEAD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: loving and being loved by jack hughes was supposed to feel like a breath of fresh air— but the air was quickly stripped from your lungs when you realized it was never real
pairings: jack hughes x fem!reader
warnings: heavy angst, one sided love, bets, death
uhm heavily UNEDITED LOLL she kinda sucks but
Tumblr media
you knew jack was the one for you the moment he came up to you after one of his games just to apologize for someone in the crowd accidentally pouring their beer on you— someone who he had no idea existed.
you knew jack was the one for you when he would make an effort to call you every night, always waiting for you to answer before saying, “hey, pretty girl.”
you knew jack was the one for you when he came to your house the night after your brother got into a car crash. he held you tightly— whispered sweet nothings into your ear as his hold never loosened.
you knew jack was the one for you the moment ‘i love you’ slipped through his lips; like little secrets only he wanted you to know.
but, your entire relationship wasn’t private— no it was entirely public. not public in you posting each other, but public in him telling every little detail to his best friends: trevor and cole.
you realized jack was a shitty man the day you overheard him on the phone. his voice; the one you grew to love, was speaking to trevor.
you realized jack was a cruel man the day you heard him admit out loud to his mother how this was all fake. you realized his mother was an admiring woman the moment she started to yell at him. you realized jack would never be a good person the moment he lied to you.
“was any of it real to you?” you whispered as you looked at his back. you watched him tense up before turning to you.
“what—what do you mean?” he was acting oblivious— sinking into it.
“how much of our relationship was fake to you, jack?” you spoke, your eyes held pain in them as you teared up.
“where is this coming from, baby?” he asked.
you let out a scoff mixed with a choked sob. “why are you still performing in front of me? im not stupid jack, ive heard you! you called me stupid for believing this. you just told your mom it was just because you wanted money.”
“baby..” jack spoke lowly. his eyes held guilt, anger.
“were you sent by someone? someone who wanted me dead? because you are fucking killing me, jack. ive been back and forth with myself, trying to convince my head that you were lying; or even just joking. ive tried for defending you against my head for so fucking long, jack.”
you watched as ellen stood there; clearly torn apart by the entire thing. of course she loves her son, but he was ruining you.
“you knew i loved you— you knew that and you still did this? you couldn’t have a fucking heart and just reject me?” you were desperate— desperate for his love, even after this.
“i didnt want to hurt you..” he trailed off.
you let out another scoff. “good fucking riddance”
you had tears running down your cheeks. you turned around, trying to not let him see you cry. you felt his hand touch your shoulder— which you quickly shrugged it away.
“dont you dare— you have no right.. no right to touch me right now.” you were a mess— a full on mess. “you— i let you see all of me, all of it.” you brokenly whispered.
“i let you in— you came to my brothers funeral for fucks sake, jack! i cried on your shoulder— you told me, you said so many things.” you cried out.
jack watched you break down, his brows furrowed as guilt washed over him.
“i took you to my moms grave.” you whimpered out, your lip quivering as you shakily spoke.
ellen came over, her arm wrapping around your shoulders. “come on sweetie, lets get you outside.” she whispered.
you sobbed into your hands as she began to lead you outside. “mom—“ jack tried to speak but was immediately cut off by the look she gave him.
that night, you declared ellen hughes as your savior. that night, you declared jack hughes as the shittiest man to exist. the smallest man who ever lived.

❛ OH BABY, BABY ❜
🎧 🎸 every single little moment, every single little sunshine
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary - when walking the streets of Michigan, you never know what to expect. maybe that’s why y/n never expected for a little boy to literally run into her with his fine ass cute father behind him.
pairing - f!reader x single dad!quinn hughes
side note - dad quinn 😻😻 that’s all i got to say as of now. my mans so fine 😍😍 (this takes place during the summer so about right now)
✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫ ✫
the slight breeze blew through her hair as she hugged her zip up closer to her body and grabbing the hood, putting it on over her head slightly. y/n had decided the weather was warm but windy enough to go outside and take a walk and get some fresh air. she had the day off from her job as a social media photographer for the Detroit Tigers.
y/n loved her job. she knew the second she saw her sister take part in sports photography that’s what she wanted to do. she took an internship during her junior year at the University of Michigan and once she had graduated, she had applied for the job as one of the photographers for the Detroit Tigers. two days after her interview, she had gotten an email form the organization saying she had gotten the job. since then she had been working with the MLB organization.
the young woman had just turned the corner and made her way into a local park in Michigan. her hand made its way into her pocket and pulled her phone out. she grabbed her earphones out of the other and connected them to her phone before placing them in her ears. she quickly swiped and clicked on spotify before she began to hear the lyrics to ‘Stay Ready’ by Jhene Aiko as she slid her phone into her pocket once again.
the music seemed to block out the noises of the children’s laughter and giggling as they slid down the slide or swung on the swing, being pushed by their parents or siblings or other children. the noise of the cars passing by and their honking were muffled.
she began to think about her life here in Michigan and if she were to stay her the rest of her life. find the one, have kids, grow old. the idea seemed nice in her head but she knew things may never go her way as god had other plans for her.
y/n suddenly felt something hit her leg. she heard a little ‘oof’ and a thud and looked down to see a little boy with brown, wavy hair on the ground. she took her earphones out and placed them in her pocket where her phone was.
she kneeled down to the little boys height and helped him get up. “are you okay?” her eyes scanned his small figure to check for any injures.
“i sorry.” the little voice made her melt. she always had a soft spot for kids. “i didn’t mean to.”
y/n smiled. “i know you didn’t, it’s okay.” she looked around for his father or mother or anyone who might’ve known him. “where your mom?”
he shrugged.
“your dad?” she tried and the boy turned around and pointed towards the way he came from.
“he’s over there.” he told y/n and she looked behind him to see a man with a slight subtle and neatly styled hair looking around frantically.
he was cute.
“what’s your name?” she asked the little boy who looked up at her with big doe eyes.
“roan.” he stated proudly with a grin on his face. “what’s yours?”
her smile turned into a small laugh. “y/n.”
she saw the little boys hand extend. she placed her hand in his and he placed a quick kiss to it and let out a ‘mwah’ as he did so.
“aw how cute.” y/n cooed as she let out a small giggle.
roan leaned in forward. “daddy says when’s pretty girl is around, to kiss her hand when you meet her.” he explained. “you a pretty girl.”
“your dad seems like a wonderful person.”
roan nodded. “he is.”
she looked at him and finally wondered if his father had figured out he was over here with her. her question was answered when she heard the padding of feet get closer but slow down as they neared. she saw the legs of a person behind roan and looked up to find the man she saw earlier looking down at his son. he kneeled down to be eye level with roan.
“roan, i thought i told you to stay next to me.” the man scolded the little boy who looked up at the man while squinting his eyes at the sun.
“i sorry daddy. but i wanted to go play! you promised.” roan exclaimed with his arms up.
quinn shook his head. “don’t do that again, okay? you scared me.”
“ok.” roan whispered as he wrapped his arms around his dad. quinn took the little boy into his arms and y/n watched with adoration in her eyes as she stood up.
the pair pulled away and quinn stood up while roan went and stood by y/n’s side, grabbing her hand and holding it. “daddy i made a friend!” he exclaimed, excitement evident in his voice.
quinn looked down towards her. holy was she beautiful. her smile was warm and gave him a welcoming feeling. he never experienced that from anyone other than his own mother.
“hi, i’m y/n!” she held her hand out for quinn to shake with a smile on her face.
he took it in his own and shook it slightly. “quinn.” he let go of it and watched as she put it down. “it’s nice to meet you.”
“nice to meet you too.” she looked down at roan and shook their hands that were still held together . “roan here happened to run into me.”
“did he now?” quinn looked at the young boy who smiled sheepishly. “well i hope he said sorry.”
roan just nodded his head. “ i did. like you told me to.”
y/n laughed. “he was such a gentleman.” she looked at quinn. “roan’s a sweet boy.”
quinn’s eyes softened. “i’m guessing i raised him right if he was called a gentleman by a pretty lady like yourself.” the words left his mouth before he could even stop them. “i didn’t mean it like that, well like i did, but not like that. you’re very pretty-”
y/n let out a small chuckle. “it’s ok, i know what you meant.” she stood there for a second. “you’re pretty hot, you know that?”
quinn felt himself blush and turn red. “oh, um, thank you.” he looked down at his watch and his eyes widened as he noticed he would be late to dinner with his family if he didn’t leave now. “oh i am very sorry but we have to go and get ready.” quinn reached down and picked roan up before settled him on his hip. “do you think i can i get your number?”
“no, i’m sorry.”
quinn’s smiled faltered slightly. “oh it’s fine-”
“but can i get yours before i go?” y/n asked.
“oh, of course. uhh, can i-” y/n pulled her phone out and opened to her contacts before clicking on the add sign. quinn smiled and typed in his number. “here you go.”
“i’ll see you around then.” y/n said and she looked at roan. “bye roan! it was very nice meeting you.”
roan leaned forward in his fathers arm, wrapping his own arms around y/n and she did the same back, “bye bye!” he turned his head and placed a open mouthed kiss on her cheek with a loud ‘mwah’.
“cute kid.” y/n told quinn as she saved quinn’s number and put her phone away in her pocket. “bye quinn.”
“goodbye y/n.”
she turned around and began walking back to her apartment with quinn and roan on her mind. he was very attractive.

it was 10:13 pm and quinn has just put roan to sleep in his bed after coming back to the lake house from dinner with his family. he walked back quietly to his own room which next to roan’s and got into bed, pulling the sheets over his body. he grabbed his phone, in hopes he would get a text from a certain person. with no luck he sighed and put his phone on his nightstand, ready to drift off to sleep.

The Devil’s Voice
Tommy Shelby x Reader
Warnings: mentions of religion, re-working of a season 3 plotline, indirect mention of murder
Word Count: 739
Summary: Tommy meets a woman at a crossroads who agrees to help him execute his business.
Tumblr media
“Polly said you’d come.”
Tommy heard the woman before he saw her properly. Only her outline was visible as he approached her on the desolate road, the wind making the fog roll over the fields that boardered it on both sides.
“Polly has a tendency to talk,” he responded as he stopped in front of her. He couldn’t help but give her a once over. Her appearance was the exact opposite what he was expecting when Polly spoke about her.
“But yet you’re in front of me,” she quipped, running her eyes up and down his body as she clasped her hands behind her back.
“She said you’d be able to help me,” he got right into business.
“Depends on what you’re looking for help with.” The response was vague, but her quirked eyebrow told him that she was interested in hearing his proposition.
“His name is Father Hughes…”
“Ahh, a priest,” she interjected, nodding slowly at the information.
“Only in the title,” he remarked, “he’s done things that rival the worst…uses the cloth he wears to cover it up.”
“And he’s who you’re up against?” she asked.
Tommy nodded. “He works as a member Section D. Has me out doing his bidding for him while he’s playing both sides and reporting information back to the opposition. I’ve been tasked to kill him. My latest attempt didn’t come out as expected. So…”
“That’s where I come in?” she took the words from him mouth, watching with raised eyebrows to see how he’d respond. He only nodded. She nodded back and took a moment to think over the information she was just given; weighing it all out in her mind. “Striking down a man of god won’t be the easiest thing I’ve done, but I’ll certainly take pleasure in doing it,” she finally gave her answer.
“So you’re agreeing?” Tommy checked to make sure.
“He’ll be dead by sunrise,” she answered, a sinister grin forming on her face as she said the morbid sentence.
“Good,” he nodded once, making to turn and head back to his car.
“But I should tell you, Mr. Shelby,” her voice made him stop in his tracks and he slowly turned back to face her again. She waited until she had his full attention to continue: “if I do this for you, you’re mine forever.” Her words came out in a slow manner, as if she was making sure he heard every word.
Usually a statement such as this would make a look of surprise, or even fear, flash across the face of the person it was being said to. (Y/N) had seen it time and time again from the people who’d made deals with her in the past. If she was honest, it was her favorite part of these meetings. But Tommy Shelby looked completely different when she uttered these words. His lips were slightly parted and he nodded his head ever-so slightly before what seemed to be a look of intrigue flashed across his face. She wondered if she would have even caught it if she wasn’t watching him so closely.
He simply looked her over once more before finally saying: “just make sure it’s done.” With that he turned and began walking back to his vehicle.
(Y/N) grinned as she watched him walk away, biting on her bottom lip as she restrained herself from going and propositioning him right there. He is going to be a fun one, she thought to herself, her grin growing.
Tumblr media
“So you’ve done it?” Polly questioned her nephew as she entered his office the following afternoon.
“I have,” Tommy answered without looking up from his papers. “Father Hughes has been killed, all is well.”
“Except it’s not,” she was quick to respond, a weariness present in her words.
Hearing them finally made Tommy look up. “What do you mean, Pol?” he asked her.
“You didn’t listen to me fully,” she started, a grave seriousness present in her voice. Tommy only tipped his head slightly to show he was listening, “I told you to hold caution when meet with her; that she’d take something in return. The devil’s voice is sweet to hear, but that sweetness will fade fast. She’s going to ruin your life, Thomas.”
Tommy only nodded after hearing his aunt’s foreboding words. If the devil’s voice was sweet to hear, at least he’d have something ‘sweet’ in his life from now on.

the one that got away: quinn hughes
Tumblr media
you had taken your eyes off your son for a split second before he ran away. the two of you were at prudential centre for the canucks vs devils game to watch your friend beau.
“look tito can i call you back, luke just ran off and i need to go find him,” you tito, cutting the line on him. panic hit your body as soon as you couldn’t find your son’s hand
he was only five years old, but he was as impatient as ever. especially when it came to hockey. you looked for any sign of your little boy when all of a sudden a women with blonde hair walked over to you, your son in her hands.
“mom!” lucas exclaimed, letting go of the women and running straight into your arms. once your son was in your arms, you looked up to thank the woman and your heart dropped.
in front of you stood ellen hughes. your ex-boyfriends mother. “y/n?” she asked slowly, you nodded standing up as lucas grabbed your hand again. “mama, we have to go now. tito is waiting for us and maybe i can see jack hughes!” your son exclaimed.
“which way are you headed?” ellen asked. you pointed in the direction the two of them came in and she nodded “is it alright if i walk with you?” you smiled at her “of course,”
the three of you walked in silence until you reached the entrance to your seats. lucas was about to run off before you stopped him “luke, what do you say,” you prompted.
“thank you for taking me back to my mom,” your son thanked, giving ellen a quick hug before running down to the glass. you watched as tito spotted the young boy and skated over to him.
ellen looked at your son in awe before she turned to you, her eyes were slightly glossy. of course, she already knew who lucas’s father was. your son was a carbon copy of his father at a young age.
“i found out when i was at nyu after quinn and i split, so he doesn’t know about him. umm i didn’t even know that i was pregnant until someone told me to take a test. i’m sorry,” you confessed.
“honey, you have nothing to be sorry about. i just can’t believe you managed to raise such a sweet boy on your own, especially with school and i’m assuming work as well,” ellen brought you in for a hug, which you accepted.
you wiped a rogue tear from your eye as ellen did the same. “i mean tito has been a great help. he was there when i found out i was pregnant, i honestly don’t think i’d be where i am today without help from tito, barzy or tavares,” you explained.
“he looks so much like quinn,” ellen mumbled. you nodded and smiled slightly looking down at your son as he watched jack warm up. “he loves hockey too. whenever the isles play, we get tickets occasionally for home games but otherwise we always have to watch. even the devils, luke loves jack,” you chuckled slightly.
“maybe after the game i could ask jack to sign a jersey for him,” ellen suggested. you knew what she was doing and you knew you couldn’t say no to her. “i’m sure lucas would love that,”
ellen gave you one last hug before you headed towards your son. tito had skated back up to the glass once he noticed you joining lucas and pointed at the puck he had given your son.
quinn had been watching his new teammate from the moment he went up to the little boy. his friends petey and brock were stood next to him and they couldn’t believe that anthony had a son.
but when quinn saw you with the boy and anthony skate up to the two of you again his body filled with rage. the boy couldn’t be more than five years old and the thought of you getting with one of his new teammates irked him.
petey and brock picked up on quinn’s mood change immediately and as soon as they saw you, they knew who you were. the two had been one the receiving end of quinn’s many rants on how he regretted breaking up with you.
throughout the game quinn tried his best to ignore you and your son but when he looked up into the crowd his eyes always trailed to your seats. he even caught a glimpse of your son jumping up at you when he chased after jack.
when the game ended, he wasn’t even upset by the game itself. he was upset that he let the life he wanted with you slip from his grasps.
“mama come on, we have to find tito. he’s going to be extra sad today because this is his first game okay so we don’t tell him that mat is taking me for ice cream,” your five year old rushed through the arena determined to find his uncle.
you’d been around prudential centre during your time working with the isles so you steered your son around, making sure he didn’t get lost again. the two of you were stood outside when lucas saw ellen. “hi!” your son exclaimed running up to the woman.
“lucas wyatt l/n, what did i tell you about running off?” you asked picking your son up and spinning him around. ellen laughed at the two of you as your son squirmed in your arms.
it took jim a minute to place a name to your face but once he did so his face softened. the little girl that he considered his daughter was all grown up and now she had a son as well. you gave jim a small smile as ellen spoke to lucas.
“you’re so grown up,” jim mumbled as he brought you in for a hug. you chuckled slightly as you tightened your grip on him. “how old is he?” jim asked, you had assumed ellen would’ve told jim everything but you were slightly grateful she hadn’t.
you looked at your son who was telling ellen the story of how his uncles taught him how to skate “he’s five now and he’s as stubborn as his father,” you grumbled.
jim laughed at your statement and went to introduce himself to lucas. you were watching your son interact with his grandparents when you heard someone whisper your name. you had no time to turn properly before jack had you in a hug.
“is it really you? like you’re here at a game and i’m not hallucinating,” jack rambled as he pulled away. you squeezing jack’s shoulders was enough reassurance that you were in fact there.
the middle hughes was about to go into another ramble on how excited he was to see you when he felt a little tap on his hand. jack looked down to see a boy who looked eerily similar to his brother.
lucas looked up at his idol and froze, unsure of what to ask. “mama, what am i supposed to say,” your son panicked as he ran back to you. jack felt his heart tighten as he watched his nephew run to you.
“hey buddy, do you want a picture?” jack asked crouching down to face your son. lucas nodded and slowly made his way over to jack as the older boy wrapped his arm around your son.
“oh no, is this going to replace the picture of you and me bud?” tito joked as he spotted lucas and jack. lucas’s face lightened up at the voice of his uncle and he barrelled into tito.
the quebec native picked lucas up and gave you a hug before turning to introduce himself to ellen and jim. but just as tito gave you a hug, quinn walked out.
quinn was about to do something rash when jack stepped in front of his brother. “say hello and walk away,” jack whispered in his brother’s ear.
and that’s exactly what he did. he said hello to his parents parents, gave a nod to his teammates and then turned to you. “hi,” he greeted.
you smiled over at him, repeating the greeting. you glanced slowly at your son, who was whispering in tito’s ear pointing at the defensemen.
the newest canuck dropped lucas on the floor and he ran up to quinn “my name is lucas and i play the same position!” he introduced.
although quinn was mad, he couldn’t help but notice the similarity between him and the little boy. a quick look into the eyes of his parents gave him everything he needed to know.
a smile made its way onto quinn’s face as he looked at you before asking lucas if he wanted a picture. quinn gave lucas a hug before coming to you.
“i’m sorry,” you whispered in his ear.
quinn shook his head and smiled at you, gently grabbing your face “you have nothing to be sorry for. everything is my fault,” he

J. Hughes - So Fine
Tumblr media
✄————————————
Jack Hughes x Reader
Requested✨
Part two of, Home Alone
Word Count: 3.2k
Warning(s): implied smut, and lying to poor Ellen
—————————————
If I come get you in 5 will you be ready?
JackyBoy… Uh
JackyBoy… Yah
JackyBoy… Why
I’m home alone, and we haven’t seen each other all week.
JackyBoy… Okay. 5 starting now? Or five starting like.. a minute ago when you texted?
Five starting now
Wear swim trunks
My parents were out of town on a brief business trip. A once in a blue moon event that hadn’t happened since Jack and I got together. And considering our last rendezvous didn’t exactly go so well, I was eager to get him alone again.
I left my house in a tank top and a pair of Jean shorts. It was hot out, and as much as I was itching to lay out and tan, I figured alone time with Jack was more important.
When I pulled up into the driveway, I tensed at the sight of Quinn on the front porch with Ellen.
They waved with big smiles, and I decided I’d get out and visit for a moment.
“Hey!” I called as I slipped out of the car.
“Jack said you were coming to pick him up.” Ellen spoke, waving a hand in a gesture for me to join them on the porch. I walked up the few steps and made my way over to the two.
“Yeah. Had some last minute plans. He told me there was no hockey today, so I figured I’d take what I could get.”
“That’s how I feel sometimes. Jimmy steals my boys away for sports and sometimes I have to remind them to give me a hug before they leave.” The woman’s joke caused me to laugh softly. Quinn rolled his eyes, clearly in disagreement with his mother on her confession.
“What are you two getting into today?”
I hated lying to Ellen.
I decided to tell half truths.
“We’re gonna go over to mine. I thought maybe we’d swim for a bit, order takeout and watch a few movies.”
“Parents are home?” Ellen always asked. Even before the incident. I never minded. I understood she had boundaries and concerns. Once upon a time, I never dared to cross those lines.
“Yeah. My mom just got home from work an hour ago.”
“Between you and me, it might help if you get him to lay down for a bit. Jack hasn’t slept well recently, and he’s been a little pissy.” I tried not to smile, but Quinn’s little giggle from the side had certainly amused me.
“A little?” Quinn chimed in so unexpectedly that it caused me to snort out a laugh. Ellen pursed her lips and gave her son a questioning glance.
“Maybe more than a little, but I’m sure he’ll be a ray of sunshine for you.”
“He always is.” I joked softly as the front door opened. Jack stepped out onto the porch in a tank top, the sides practically cut out. I’d seen him wear them on occasions, but really only when I went on the occasional run with him, or when I met him coming back from the gym. I liked the way he looked in them. Especially accompanied by a pair of shorts. I didn’t mind the appearance of Jack’s legs either. His eyes though, those did bother me. The darkness beneath them let me know he’d been having a real issue with sleep. I just didn’t know why.
“Ready?” Jack asked, as if he had been the one waiting on me. I chuckled and nodded.
“Have a nice day, you two!” Ellen called as I grabbed Jack’s hand and walked him off the porch and to my car.
“You too, mom!” Jack shouted back, waving at her.
“You didn’t hug her!” Quinn called playfully, earning a swat on the arm from Ellen. “Makes me her favorite!”
“Quinn!” Ellen scolded.
“At least I’m still her cutest!”
I stifled a laugh at the boys’ banter as I slipped into the car. Jack quickly got into the passenger side.
“Buckle up, Hughes.” I instructed, watching him put on his seat belt, his shirt useless to cover anything as he leaned one way and half of it bunched up to uncover his chest.
“How does your mother let you leave the house like this?” I teased as I reached out to fix his shirt. Jack giggled quietly. “It’s awful revealing.”
“But it’s just you.” The brunette reasoned. I rolled my eyes at him and pulled out of the driveway.
I was thankful I didn’t live far, because Jack was too close to keep my hands off of. We hadn’t seen each other in a week, and for the summer, that was a long time. I practically yanked him out of my vehicle once we got to my place, leading him through the garage and into my uncharacteristically quiet home. No parents shouting and making jokes. No baby sister running about. Just me, and Jack.
“You’re sure they’re not coming home?” Jack asked as he followed me into the kitchen. We both kicked off our shoes in the hall.
“As sure as it gets, Jackson.” I spoke softly as I turned to grab his hands. I walked backwards toward the fridge.
“That’s not my name.” Jack moved one of his hands from my own to gently push me back, in a playful manner.
“Well I need something fuller to call you than just Jack, ya know? And you always throw a fit when I call you Rowden.” I looked up at Jack with an accusing glare.
He huffed.
“Want a water?” I asked as I turned and opened the fridge, pulling out a bottle.
“Yes, please.” I grabbed another bottle and shut the appliance, handing one over to him.
“Figured we could spend some time outside first?” I suggested.
“Don’t have to tell me twice.”
I walked across the kitchen with Jack hot on my heels.
I pushed the sliding glass door open and stepped out onto our back deck, smiling to myself as Jack followed close behind.
“Sometimes I wish we had a pool.” Jack admitted, sounding refreshed at the simple sight of the body of water.
I was swift to set my water down and pull my shirt off, tossing it onto one of the empty lawn chairs.
“Even better, Jack.” I turned to him, adjusting my bathing suit top while he set his own water aside. “Your girlfriend has one. And a house all to herself.”
“Sounds like she’s living the dream.” Jack laughed as I grabbed his shirt and pulled him forward. I raised a brow before peeking down at his exposed chest.
“You don’t wear this around other girls, do you?” I whispered curiously. Somewhat playful, but deep down I did wonder. I didn’t like the idea of other girls staring at him.
“No. No I don’t.” I nodded at his words.
“Okay.” I let him go and stepped back before slipping my shorts off. I tossed them onto the same chair as my shirt. I was quick to remove my socks and toss them aside as well. Then I sat down by the edge of the pool, dipping my feet in the water.
“Jack-“ I was on the verge of calling him over before I heard his loud steps padding against the wood deck. I was barely prepared to see his body fling in the direction of the pool, and I was much too late in shielding my body before it was drenched in the chilly water.
“Jack!” I shouted as laughter erupted from my lips. He surfaced with a toothy grin, his long brown hair all over his face. A mess, even after he tried to push it back. “You got me all wet!” I moved my hair over my shoulders, watching as he made his way over, giggling like he’d just heard the most inappropriate joke.
“You said you wanted to go swimming!” He defended himself, reaching out to grab my legs. I gave him a warning glance.
“I said wear your swim trunks. I didn’t say anything about myself swimming.” I tried to swat his hands away, but Jack kept a tight grip. One that felt rather nice on my calves.
“You’re gonna make me swim all alone?” Jack pushed out his bottom lip in a comedic pout.
“Maybe.” I leaned down to be eye level with him. “I might swim with you if you give me a kiss.” Jack’s eyes lit up before he pressed his lips to mine. He pulled away far too quickly for my liking.
“Is that good enough for you?” Jack asked, trying but failing to contain his smile.
“That one felt off. Just one more.”
The boy sighed and shook his head.
“I don’t know man. Might not be worth all this hassle.” I gasped playfully at his words.
“Jack Rowden Hughes!”
“Hey! I told you I don’t like that!”
“Then get those lips over here and kiss me!” He looked at me with a furrowed brow and a defiant gaze. I looked right back with expectancy in my eyes.
“I’ll wait.” Thankfully I only had to wait two seconds before Jack released the breath he’d been holding and leaned upwards to kiss me again.
Only this time I fell victim to his tricks.
Jack’s arms flew around my body and pulled me into the pool. I clung to him almost immediately, the chill of the water welcomed by my overheating skin, but still a shock nonetheless.
“Jack!” I shouted through laughter, trying to peel myself away from him, to no avail. Jack lifted my legs around his hips and smiled to himself at his own accomplishment.
“That’s all I wanted.” He informed me as he hooked his arms beneath my thighs. I glared down at him and rested my arms on top of his shoulders.
“If I wasn’t so comfy right here I’d swim away.” He took backwards steps toward the middle of the pool as I spoke, seemingly in his own little world. Content just to hold me and have me close.
“No you wouldn’t.” The confidence in his tone would have been unattractive, but the fact of the matter was that he knew me too well. He wasn’t egotistical or cocky. He didn’t think he was ‘all that.’ He simply knew I wouldn’t have left him all alone even if he ticked me off to my wits end.
“Whatever, Hughes.” I rolled my eyes at him and leaned forward to rest my chin against his shoulder. I heard him sigh. My thoughts ran rampant until they settled on a topic, one of my hands gently playing with the long brown hair at the nape of Jack’s neck.
“Your mom says you haven’t been sleeping well.” I broke our silence with a sigh. I moved one of my hands around Jack’s back to gently massage his skin.
“I’m fine.”
“We can take a nap today if you want.”
“I don’t need a nap.”
“Right. I forgot. You’re all grown up now.” I rolled my eyes, pressing a kiss to his neck. I felt Jack’s chest puff slightly with the hitched breath he took. I smirked.
“Can I convince you to take a nap?” My tone changed, slowly lifting my lips to his ear, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of his jaw.
“We’re in the middle of your back yard.” Jack mumbled in response, his grip tightening on my thighs.
“Completely alone, Jack. The whole house is ours.” I reminded as my lips trailed back down to his neck.
Jack let out a breath somewhere between a sigh and a whine. Like he’d been faced with a difficult decision to make.
I slipped my hand down his back to tuck into the waistband of his swim trunks, and nipped at his neck.
“We can go to my room.” I whispered, “we’ve never done this before and we finally have a chance, Jack.” I wouldn’t push if he declined, but I figured by the way he pushed me against his body, that there was a strong chance he wanted it.
“Okay..” he finally breathed out. “Okay.. okay.”
“C’mon, baby.”
We grabbed towels from the downstairs bathroom after tracking pool water through half of the house. We were in too much of a rush to actually dry off though, so the trek up the steps and to my room was filled with even more dripping water and the occasional sliding foot. Seeing as my parents’ floors were all hard wood. When we got into my room, Jack and I tossed the towels aside and turned to each other. Excited and eager. Up until we made eye contact.
“Oh god.”
“Don’t be nervous.” Jack was quick to close the space between us when he heard the uncertainty in my tone. His hands came up to hold my face. “We don’t have to rush.”
“We’ll do it when it feels right?” I asked, my voice unexpectedly quiet.
“I’ll wait however long until you’re ready. And if you decide you’re not, we won’t do it at all.” My shoulders eased, and I reached out to rest my hands on Jack’s sides.
“I got so lucky.”
“You’re about to get even luckier.”
My laughter was cut off as Jack leaned in to press his lips to my own.
My heartbeat raced when he pulled away, head dipped, but looking up at me through his lashes. Asking for permission to continue on with an act we didn’t know how to navigate.
I nodded.
Did we have a single idea as to what we were doing? Absolutely not. Jack and I just kinda.. went for it? He asked me questions, I was the leading force assuring him he had been fine and was doing okay. He was loud and embarrassed. I was sensitive and un-expecting. I found it amusing to watch him hold his breath to keep quiet. I had to remind him multiple times to actually breathe before he passed out. I’m sure he found it equally as amusing each time he moved and caught me off guard. It wasn’t serious or exactly lustful to the point of meaningless sex. It was full of quiet laughter and the occasional jokes. The type of euphoric giddiness only two people experiencing something so exciting for the first time can hold.
I’d say the only thing that kept us going as long as we had, was the awkwardness killing the mood every so often. And the new feelings. By the time Jack and I got settled side by side in bed, we were both still staring each other down in complete shock.
“That was weird.. wasn’t it?” He whispered.
“A little. But it felt good. Practice makes perfect, ya know?” He nodded. The longer we stared, the wider our smiles got. “We’ve never done that before.”
Jack had one arm tucked beneath his head like a pillow, the other rested carefully on top of my hand that lay between us on the mattress.
“It was good though.. yeah?”
“Yeah.” Our conversation ended with both of us sighing. Jack’s fingers fiddled with my own. We both tried to process the new wave of emotions.
“What do you think we do now?”
He was asking a question I didn’t know the answer to.
“Just lay here?” I paused. “Maybe you should take that nap now.” He looked away, a pout settling on his lips. “Don’t be like that, Jack.” I rolled my eyes with a giggle and swiftly slipped out of my bed. I grabbed a new set of clothes out of my dresser and put them on. A simple pair of shorts and a loose t-shirt.
“You were already exhausted. And you wore me out.” I teased, glancing back at him to see the blush spread across his face.
“Can’t sleep naked.” For a moment, I thought he was joking. I knew for a fact Jack slept with only a pair of boxers on. But then I remembered his were wet. I sighed.
“Fine.” I turned back to my dresser and dug through it to find a pair of gym shorts. Orange, but the only other clean pair I had because I hadn’t done laundry yet. When I turned back to Jack, he immediately shook his head.
“I’m not wearing that.”
“It’s just for a nap, Jack.” I tossed the shorts in his direction.
“They’re so short!”
“It’s not like I haven’t seen everything, now.” I tried to reason, but the recollection of our previous activities had him flushing again.
“It’s the best I can offer, J.” He looked away and told me to turn around. I chuckled at his antics, but I turned nonetheless. When he told me I could join him in bed again, I laughed softly at the sight.
“Are they too tight on your hips?” I asked, climbing into bed beside him. The shorts hung dangerously low, but if they worked, that’s all that mattered.
“It’ll be fine.” He shrugged, reaching down to tuck one of his hands into the waistband. A boyish habit I didn’t understand, but I could only imagine now that it helped him ease the pressure from the waistband two sizes too small on his body.
I rolled onto my side and wrapped an arm around him. Jack smiled, as did I.
“Can we try again when we wake up?”
I had just rested my head on his chest when I lifted it to look up at him. I raised my brow.
“Try what?”
“Ya know..” his voice trailed off, and it took me a moment before I realized what he was asking.
“Oh! Yeah, baby. If you’re up for it. We’ve got all day to figure this thing out. We can even go to the guest bedroom. Probably should have done that in the first place. Considering the bed is bigger.” I reached up to push a few strands of his wavy brown hair from his forehead before I rested my hand against his chest. I traced lazy shapes and lines into his skin, and tossed one of my legs over his own.
“I wish your parents were out more often.”
“Me too, bud.” I heard a yawn slip past his lips, and I smirked to myself before tilting my head upwards to look at him.
“Quit talking so you can sleep, Hughes.”
“Im not tired.” Despite his words, the boy still allowed his eyes to close.
“I know you aren’t,” I whispered as I watched him. Eventually his breathing slowed, and his body didn’t feel as tense. His lips parted slightly and his features smoothed out. I only looked away when I was positive he was asleep. I wasn’t quite as tired as Jack was, but I didn’t want to leave him. It felt wrong to slip away after the step we had taken in our relationship. Perhaps it was more of a leap. I simply wanted to be with him.
So I laid there quietly, occasionally shifting until I found a comfortable spot to lay. Then I dozed off to the sounds of Jack’s occasional snores.

"Searching For Eden"
Tumblr media
Pairings: Hugh Jackman x Reader (future), Chris Evans x Ex-wife!Reader
Warnings: major angst, cheating, Chris being a horrible husband, divorce, heartbreak, sad reader, slow burn romance, Hugh being a sweetheart, romance, talks of smut and sexual tension.
Notes: I don’t think Chris act like this and this not to portray anything in a bad light. Don’t like it, then please do not engage.
Introduction: Back in 2004, you married Chris Evans, the love of your life. You both went to the same school sense you were five, grew up together and dated in high school. You two tied the knot after you graduated from college and started your acting career along with him.  You two had been married for two years, until Chris started becoming more distant and bitter towards you and you two began fighting more. Things grew worse until one day he admitted to cheating with younger woman. You told him it was over and wanted a divorce. One day when you were getting ready for packing your bags, he comes to you with a contract saying that you have to sign a non-disclosure agreement that you would never be able reveal Chris’s infidelity to the media. He told you that you would never work in Hollywood again. After Chris got you to sign the contract and the divorce, head back home to your parents. Never in your life had you felt more betrayed. You vowed you would never open your heart again to another man.
Six months later in 2007, you got role on a new movie being filmed called “Searching for Eden”. A story about a biblical, post-apocalyptic world where a loving wife and husband fight for survival together in a hellish world taken over by demons. As you get on the movie set, you meet the actor to play your husband. Hugh Jackman, the Australian heart throb, and your life-long celebrity crush. As the movie production moves forward, the two of you grew closer. You were starting to feel happy and whole again after developing a deep, profound friendship with the talented aussie. When filming was done, you head home to Massachusetts, but kept in touch.  You asked and talk to one another whenever you could. During Thanksgiving, your younger sisters show you the news of Chris, your ex-husband, was now engaged to the woman who cheated on you with. You break down and run out of the house in extreme distress and heartbreak.
Hugh, hearing this news, called you to see if you were okay. You start to open to him more about your divorce and told him about how he cheated and forced a disclosure contract to keep his public persona intact. Hugh decided that you should come to Australia for a while after Christmas. You arrive and Hugh insisted on you staying at his home. Over the next few months, you and Hugh grow even closer to one another. He tells you more about his home life and opened about his own childhood and his broken marriage. Eventually, your schoolgirl crush develops into something that runs deeper than what you never thought possible since your divorce.
Love.
Whether they are reciprocated? You could not say. The man is almost 13 years older than you. He was far out of your league with him so kind, intelligent, hardworking, funny and one of the most successful actors in Hollywood.  No way on this planet he would really want someone like you. A woman who’s first husband cheated on her and shattered her trust in love all together. A person who believed would never be good enough for someone who was so perfect as the X-men star. You feared it would ruin his reputation and image by making him look like a creep for spending time and falling for a much younger woman. So you buried them, hoping that the feeling would go away.
What you didn’t know was that Hugh felt, from the very moment he met you. If it weren’t for your own grief and sorrow, you would have noticed on how Hugh always looked at you. Like you were God’s gift to the world. Never had he met a more beautiful, caring, genuine, intelligent woman in his thirty-nine years of life.
How could that idiot yank cast aside such a perfect human being like that? For another girl that was not nearly as amazing as you? He would think to himself on more than one occasion in regarding to Chris Evans. If he were him, he would be a complete fool to take a woman like you for granted. He would give anything for you to never feel that pain again.
Can You get over your broken marriage and trust for the chance to fall for another and start a new?

Drabble: Resentment
————————————————————
Hanako Mishima, who had recently turned five years old, she was looking quietly outside her window.
“Purrloin….” She said quietly, fighting back tears.
Her Purrloin, a gift from her dying grandfather had been stolen two days after her birthday five days ago, she remembered the theft….or ‘liberation’ as that man and woman in medieval soldier-like uniforms as they called it.
Her grandfather passed away and it made her even more upset.
She remembered her brother wanting to teach her to battle despite her protests, despite her objections, she admitted that her Purrloin looked like he was having fun battling Trapinch.
Then they both came, they had a Frillish and a Deino, she cringed remembering the latter.
One of them was ranting about how she and Hugh were ‘young children having such a vulgar Pokémon battle’ and the other quipped in by saying that ‘she and Hugh didn’t know anything or understand Pokémon’, one of them even quipped about Trapinch, She hid behind Hugh when one of them told them that ‘they were being mean and cruel to their Pokémon’, the other told them ‘that they will release the Pokémon for their sake’.
She remembered Hugh grabbing her hand and running but was stopped by their Pokémon, causing Hugh to get angry and ordering Purrloin and Trapinch to fight, Despite their best efforts, Frillish and Deino ganging up on her new Pokémon is all she could take.
When she took out Purrloin’s Poké Ball and returned him, the female knight snatched it and said with a grin “This Purrloin is hereby liberated by Team Plasma!”
Team Plasma…? Liberation?, She had no time to understand what they meant when my brother angrily ran up to her demanding they return Purrloin, then their Deino headbutted him in the stomach and she screamed and they walked away with her Purrloin with no remorse.
They heard them said something about how they liberated their very first Pokémon and they said about reporting it to the Seven Sages.
Hana was too busy crying over my stolen Purrloin, her brother being hurt and what she had been through.
She cringed at that memory then looked at my desk drawer and went over to it and pulled something out.
It was a Team Plasma membership card belonging to the woman who snatched her Purrloin’s Poké Ball, It said her name was Donna Harris and her grunt number was 125.
Her father wasn’t happy, neither was her mother….they got into contact with the authorities so they could bring her and her partner to justice.
She looked at the membership card with hatred in her eyes, how could someone claim people were hurting Pokémon then steal them in guise of ‘liberation’?
She looked at the detail and design of the membership badge, the symbol, a shield with a stylized P and Z was on the back, then at the front, the picture featured a smiling woman with blonde hair and green eyes.
“Hanako-chan?” She heard Abby, “Can I come in?”
Abby was a 15-year old girl who babysat for the Mishimas, Hana was particularly close to her, she gave a nod of approval, she hid the membership card under her duvet.
“It’s time to go to sleep now.” Abby said softly, “Your mom and dad will be back in the morning.”
Hana nodded, She knew Abby was in Team Plasma, the same organization Donna was in….
“Can I stay up a bit?….I’ll go to sleep shortly….oneechan….” Hana asked her.
“Alright then.” Abby said, smiling.
Abby left the room and once Abby had left, Hana glared at the membership card with complete hatred and disdain for the owner.
“ドンナ…. 許さない、忘れない…(Donna….I won’t forgive you, I won’t forget you…)” Hana said quietly to herself in Japanese.
After several minutes, Hana put the membership card back in the desk drawer and went to sleep, she left a bit better but she still missed Purrloin and her grandfather.
———————————————————
When Abby was cleaning Hana’s room when the latter was with her friends, she saw something glisten from the desk drawer.
“Hm?” Abby said, going over to the desk drawer and taking it out.
It was a Team Plasma membership card, she once saw a picture of a Purrloin with the siblings….
Abby instantly recognized the owner of the membership card.
Donna Harris….She overhearing Yasuhiro that he was going to file charges against Donna and Cletus for what they have done to his two children, theft and assault via use of a Pokémon.
“Donna……” Abby said, her voice filled with venom, “You….demented fucking bitch….I will make sure you know what you did….”
Abby remembered Donna quite well, the older grunt was a bully to her and two others, she bullied Mark and T.K for owning a Glaceon and Eevee and for owning a Glameow respectively.
She held the membership card while shaking and she put it together.
Hugh’s tantrums and Hana’s reserved nature as a result, the siblings being distant from eachother and Yasuhiro going to a police station and the membership card.
Donna had stolen Hana’s Purrloin, she remembered Louisia telling her that Hana had gotten a Purrloin for her birthday and the poor cat was stolen two days later by a group called ‘Team Plasma’
Team Plasma…..She was a member of Team Plasma, the Purrloin she nicknamed Wesker that was said to be the very first Pokémon liberated by Team Plasma
“I will reign hell on you, You fucking demented bitch….” Abby said as she put the membership card back into the desk, “How dare you hurt Hanako, How dare you hurt her.”
Abby decided not to tell the Mishima family she was a member of Team Plasma and kept it a secret from them and walked away.
Her fellow grunts and even the sages noted from that day forward she started to get more physically brutal and violent with Donna and Cletus when she was in N’s Castle when fistfighting them, they knew she never liked them but it took years for them to finally establish a connection between the very first Pokémon taken by Team Plasma and Abby’s more brutal and violent nature towards them.

If you are reading this, then this blog is no longer private, or I'm dead. And if you are reading this, read at your own risk because you are about to find out the secret kept from you by the world. As in, world-ending secret, literal armageddon. Good luck.
Mathilda
May 13, 2019. Manila, Philippines.
I just got fired from my job as a club bouncer after they found out about my real age. But I wasn't surprised that I was fired. After all, I expected this very moment from the beginning. I'm Hugh Salvador. But my friends call me Hughie.
Walking home, I saw this woman. Tall, red hair, wearing expensive clothes, looks like a foreign businesswoman who's being mugged by two men in a dark alley across the street. At first, I did not want to get involved but I saw one of the muggers pull out a balisong or butterfly knife.
I quickly ran across the street a punched the other one in the face. I'm not gonna get into details on the action, but you'd probably be relieved to know that I won the fight against two muggers with my bare hands (sort of). Well, I did use the knife to threaten them, but I didn't use it to hurt them. Do you get what I mean?
.....
Anyway, the cops arrived like in the movies. Late. The woman and I were brought to the Police Department where they asked us for identification of the two muggers. Though we did know who they were, we're able to recall their appearance. Average height, matching tattoos (skull with a scythe/grim reaper), bald, etc.
After they questioned us, they let us go home. The woman earlier approached me, her name is Mathilda Hawke. It's like a name that came out of a fictional novel, right? She's from New York and came here for business purposes. Tomorrow will be her last day in the Philippines so she asked me if I could escort her around the city. Usually, I wouldn't say yes to that. But after she showed me a massive amount of money (enough to pay my rent for the next year), I immediately told the word. Yes.
Oh, how money can blind a man from danger.
Fast forward to the next day, I walked out of my apartment building only to be surprised by Mathilda. Oddly, I ignored that she knew my address, I didn't even tell her where I lived. and we proceeded to the plan. I took her to one of the most popular malls in the city. To be honest, I felt more like a butler than an escort.
The time has flown, and Mathilda kept stealing glances at her watch. As if she's timing something. And when the time was right, the look on her face changed. And the next thing I knew, we were heading to a motel, but it's not what you think. We hurried to the 14th floor, room A103.
KNOCK-KNOCk. But no one answered. Another pair of knocks and finally, the door opened. Inside the room, we met Hector Stone, a scientist. I later learned that Mathilda is some sort of spy in an organization called The Republic that was run by leaders from around the world, when I say leaders, I meant presidents. That explains why she immediately found out about my address.
He created this device that sends and receives encrypted codes to your target. To be honest, I barely understood what he said about that machine so I won't be able to explain it to you clearly.
The machine later received a code that said "We've been found" which means. The spy they sent to their enemy called the Organization, has been identified.
We hurried and ran outside the building through the fire exit where a car covered in a grey, dusty tarp is hidden. we hopped in the car and Mathilda started driving. Then, I looked through the window where I saw, two tall men in black suits, wearing sunglasses, heading inside the hotel, which is weird because who would wear sunglasses at night?
I apologize if it looked like I rushed writing this article, I'm currently dealing with something right now but I'll try to finish this as best as I can.
Mathilda drove to the airport where we sent Dr. Stone on a private plane safely and head to their "headquarters".
Confused. I went back to the car and sat on the passenger seat. Mathilda sat in the driver's seat where she handed me my paycheck. The money inside was more than what we agreed on. She drove me home. After we arrived at the front of my apartment building, we had a deal where I can't tell anyone about that day. Oops. Well, I guess there's nothing I can do now, except delete this blog from existence. Just kidding, I'd never do that. By the way, she also offered me a sideline job where I can work for her like her own junior spy, and I'll be paid with the money I can be satisfied with. Did I take the offer? Guess.

Being Batman’s Daughter Would Include:
Headcanons.
❝Listen, Robin. At their core, people are cowardly and self-serving. Trust no one until you know them. And even then, never completely.❞
— Bruce Wayne, “The Lesson Plan”
Tumblr media
TRIGGER WARNING: Plant murder. Mentions of drugs/tranqs (stopping dealers), violence/physical harm, broken bones (knee cap), limb dislocation (shoulder), (Jason’s) death, smoke, waterboarding/drowning?
Headcanon masterlist.
You know how every teenager has that paradigm shift because as much as they love the people around them, they’ll never know the inner workings of your psyche? And they realize they’ll never truly be known? And it makes them feel really lonely?
Yeah, you never come to feel like that because you know Bruce digs so far into everyone around him he probably knows you better than you do.
Tumblr media
Honestly, he probably reads your diary. At least, he reads the fake one you hide under your mattress. And the second decoy in the A.C. vent above your dresser.
If you’re as paranoid as Bruce, you probably don’t have a diary, and the aforementioned “decoys” are just to mess with him.
Sun Tzu’s The Art of War was practically your Bible growing up.
You’re torn between giving yourself the tactical advantage of being underestimated & being non-reactive, which — besides giving you the lioness role in the lion–gazelle dynamic — gives you the advantage of having time to think carefully on the repercussions before speaking.
Because, as Sun Tzu said in chapter seven, verse twenty-one, “Ponder and deliberate before you make a move.”
Seeing as Bruce and Damian both have eidetic memories, I’m guessing you do too.
Which means you totally read the dictionary when you were young and whip our big words nobody’s heard of.
Bruce always assured you it’s okay to be scared. As a matter of fact, like he told Dick (seen in flashbacks in “The Lesson Plan”), he taught you to “Let terror embrace you. The better you know fear, the better you can use it against others.”
And we all know Bruce is the paragon of using fear against people.
Tumblr media
Take that, Scarecrow!
(See, I chose that gif because earlier in that move, he displays a fear of bats, & in that scene, he summons them to use as a distraction and walks through them completely unperturbed. No? Okay, I’ll see myself out.)
You started into the vigilante business young, a little bulge under the back of Batman’s cape that made the rest of the Justice League in the meeting think Bruce was host to an alien parasite until your little mask-covered eyes poked up over his shoulder.
The League’s known you since you were young, so they kind of all see you as their niece. That just quadruples the amount of people who are overprotective of you.
Tumblr media
Eventually, in your tweens, you think enough’s enough and start out on your own — being underestimated may be an advantage, but it’s getting ridiculous — and you tackle unsolved cases.
You set up various safe houses around the world for your own disposal (using the zeta tubes) and anyone who sees the inside of one in an emergency is always surprised. You don’t really understand why; what serious vigilante doesn’t have secure, state-of-the-art safe locations scattered across the planet?
Sometimes, it gets you into danger, but you always get yourself out of it. If there ever comes a time you can’t, well, you’ve got a direct link to Batman, and if communications fail, you can always yell for your Uncle Clark at the top of your lungs.
If the latter ever comes to fruition, you ask Bruce if he’s disappointed you had to call for back-up or that you called Superman instead of Batman, and he says, “It takes a strong person to admit when they’re weak, [Y/N]; if anything, I’m proud of you. Besides … you’re not the only one who yells for Uncle Clark when they get in over their head.”
Your training entailed hacking and mechanics, so you like to fix computers and sell them on the internet Hugh Jeffreys style. It started out with Macs from the dumpster behind Gotham Academy and turned into a surprising side hustle. Large portions of your profits go into either savings or funding your extracurricular activities.
You’re using a MacBook that’s running Linux and an iPhone 4 that’s running your own program.
At some point, your phone falls into the wrong hands, and someone asks why it has such high security. You deadpan and say, “I have three older brothers.” No further explanation required.
Tumblr media
One such solo case led you to a ring of drug dealers working in a small town outside of Gotham. You made some tranquillizers and heavy-duty smoke bombs and busted out your shinobi-iri training.
After sliding on a mask covering the bottom half of your face that filtered out smoke, you set all of the bombs off at once in the ventilation system, filling the building and using the infrared in your domino mask to sedate everyone before the cops arrived so no one got hurt (because there would inevitably be a firefight if the cops got involved).
You never go into a situation expecting to go hand-to-hand with someone; you always have a plan to take our your targets quickly an efficiently.
One night, when you’re working on a cold case in Gotham, you stumble across some intel that Poison Ivy’s been stockpiling chemicals and is going to wipe out all human life on Earth.
Luckily for you, Bruce’s paranoia is hereditary; you just happen to carry some white kryptonite in your belt, so you won’t have to go all the way back to the cave to obtain some.
You type out a quick debrief on your wrist computer in case you end up needing to send out an S.O.S., pop on your bottom mask to filter out spores or pheromones she might send in your direction, and bust out your shinobi-iri training again.
Of course, you try the peaceful approach, explaining to Ivy that you agree with her on the tree-hugger front to build rapport (T.B.F., who doesn’t?), but it comes to physical confrontation. You kill every vine that comes your way with a quick punch from your kryptonite ring, toss an expanding polyurethane foam bomb (see Batgirl #38) at her feet, and manage to get an inhibitor collar on her.
Gordon takes her away, and by the next morning, it’s on the news.
Tumblr media
“You took down Ivy by yourself?” Bruce asks when you come down for breakfast.
“… Yeah,” you say after a moment, expecting a tongue-lashing.
“Are you hurt?”
“No. She didn’t get a hit in. And before you ask, I had a contingency set up in case things went sideways.”
“… Good job.”
Your dad has the article framed in the batcave, which is the bat-equivalent of having your drawing on the fridge or getting a sticker back on a test.
You’re fighting a grin for the rest of the day.
It bugs you you can’t tell anyone why you’re so happy, so you visit Dick in Blüdhaven while he’s on patrol and give him a play-by-play. You even get a hair-ruffle!
Deathstroke targets you at some point. One of Batman and Nightwing’s worst villains, and he targets you because he knows they love you. You’re the smallest bat at the time, the weakest; he thinks you’ll be the easiest to take.
Tumblr media
Boy, was he wrong.
He was trained by the League of Assassins, so you know dropping a smoke bomb’s not going to give you cover (and his mask probably has infrared). His brain processes faster than yours, so tricking him is improbable. He’s probably done enough research on you to know you favor foam bombs and has fast enough reflexes to dodge before they go off.
And he’s jammed your comms so you can’t call for backup. You’re worried he’s got kryptonite on him and will hurt Superman if you call for help.
It’s just you and him.
He has enhanced stamina, so he tries to wear you out. You maintain distance to avoid taking damage and wearing faster.
You always admired Tim for his ability to plan ahead (see, like, the entirety of the Red Robin comics). He doesn’t know how he does it; he just does. He can’t really teach you, so you just watch and learn.
Tumblr media
You realize your fight with Slade is just a matter of managing the distance and immobilizing him, so you strike. You duck behind a pillar or grab onto a railing or something and shoot him through the thigh with your grappling gun, reeling him in. He, of course, draws his sword or a knife to cut the line, but you’re already throwing high-density expanding polyurethane bombs.
And, just like that, you’ve single-handedly taken Deathstroke.
It sends a clear message to the rest of the Gotham villains, Blüdhaven’s villains, the League of Assassins — don’t mess with the bat’s little girl. She can hold her own.
Now it’s time for you to come up with another plan to take him down; you doubt the same method will work twice, and you’ve just made a very powerful enemy.
As Wonder Woman’s said, “Do not mistake a desire to avoid violence for an inability to deal with it.” You might go into most situations with a plan to take down your opponent already in motion, but when it comes to an all-out brawl, you’re perfectly capable and don’t pull your punches.
You’re working on an unsolved case in Blüdhaven (Dick’s got enough on his plate) when you get an S.O.S. from the aforementioned along with the feed and recording from his mask. You listen to the mission briefing while you ride back to the cave and then the audio from the Young Justice mission. They got jumped by the League of Shadows in an abandoned factory, and Talia’s trying to coerce Damian into joining the League or whatever.
The usual dropping some smoke bombs and tranqing everyone isn’t going to work on thirty armed League assassins who were trained to fight blind, so you load up on polyurethane foam bombs and call Jason and Cassandra.
Tumblr media
The three of you take out the guards outside before splitting up and taking either end of the building (Cass stays with you). You meet in the middle, in the room the team’s being held in.
You highjacked the speakers, so they’re blasting AC/DC’s “Shoot to Thrill” upon Jason’s insistence. You wanted Zayde Wølf or Alice Cooper’s “Hey, Stoopid,” but big brothers will be big brothers.
Jason pops them with rubber bullets from above to slow them down for you while Cass demolishes them and you drop foam bombs, slinging your signature custom shuriken, bonk them over the head with Tim’s staff you picked up along the way, dislocate their arms, or shatter their kneecaps.
Tumblr media
You and Jason get a couple slices from swords that got a little too close, but it’s nothing compared to what you’ve had before.
When the fighting’s done and the building’s quiet, the team’s, like, “Who the heck are you guys?”
And Dick’s, like, 😏 “They’re our siblings.”
Speaking of siblings, you’re older than Damian, and as such, you take upon yourself the honor of teaching him all things pop-culture.
“I have a lot of amazing older siblings. I want to be a good big sister.”
First things first, you give him one of your refurbished e-waste phones and take him to Target to pick out an OtterBox or a LifeProof case or something that’ll keep it safe in the pocket of a vigilante.
Vigilantes are always coming to you when their phone’s broken anyway; you’ve got a stack of spares you’ve repaired.
Then you help him set up a Spotify account (follow me at @remakethestars 😉) and try to help him find his rhythm.
Poor child’s never had Oreos before, so you drag a pack of Double Stuffs out of the cabinet and a glass of milk and show him the best milk-dunking method you know.
You think about handing him a cookie and telling him to waterboard it until the bubbles stop coming up, but cookie-dunking is something every kid does; it’s sacred, and you don’t want him to associate it with violence.
You show him how you and Alfred feed the bats in the batcave.
Tumblr media
And you show him Vine compilations and your favorite shows and movies and as many classics as you can, and you put up with him pointing out the inaccuracies and calling them stupid.
Every time he doesn’t get a reference, you write it down so you know what to show him later.
If anything ever happens to you, Damian finds your list and makes it his personal mission to watch/read everything on it. It makes him feel close to you.
You build a relationship with him that’s similar to his and Dick’s, and he comes to you with things he might not be able to come to anyone else with.
Plus, since you live in the manor still and he doesn’t want Bruce to think less of him, it’s you he comes to after a nightmare.
If you know Alfred has pictures of him curled up in your side, you ask him to send them to you. Not for blackmail purposes; just to have.
You’d never use the need of comfort or the sharing of emotions against him because (A) it’s perpetuating toxic masculinity and (B) you don’t want him to think it’s wrong or confirm any of the stupid “strength” things the League of Shadows taught him.
You gave him a stuffed cat that looks like Alfred (the cat, not the butler) with some of your perfume spritzed on it. He verbalized his revulsion when you gave it to him, but on nights he has a bad dream and you’re not home, it brings him comfort.
Tumblr media
Titus comes to get you when Damian’s upset.
Even when he’s not with Damian, he seems to know. Pets are like that.
You’ve learned to trust Titus’s instincts. Damian thinks it’s suspicious when he’s feeling down and you just happen to call.
You never realized it until a long time later, but Ace was acting weird the day Jason came back from the dead.
And he was acting weird the day Jason came back to Gotham too. He ran to the door and began barking. Alfred swept security, but nothing seemed to be off. The whole family was on edge that day.
You were the reason Jason knew he wasn’t completely forgotten; he spotted you through a café window, and you were wearing his jacket.

You and Ransom had decided to meet at the park with the other couples in his little asshole group of friends.
It was finally starting to warm up some, and when the boys had brought up getting out the sticks for some lacrosse you had jumped on it. Ransom didn’t have the balls to tell you it was really just a guy thing, you looked so excited about it.
He parked the beemer at the park entrance and grinned when he saw your Volvo already there. He grabbed his sticks and the cooler full of beer from the trunk and headed towards the field where he saw the rest of you gathered.
He groaned as he drew closer and finally got a good look at you as you waved at him. You looked like a preppy dream in a polo shirt and tiny shorts, a headband around your forehead and knee high socks under your cleats.
“Hey baby!” You said giddily as you ran towards him with your stick slung over your shoulders. “Can you believe I still fit in my high school uniform?”
“I think you’re taking this a little too seriously sweetheart.” He grinned, dropping the cooler and catching you when you jumped into his arms and pressed your lips to his with a satisfied hum.
“Says the man who showed up wearing his letterman’s jacket.” You teased as you hopped down and helped him carry the cooler the rest of the way.
“Yeah? Well if you don’t change out of those shorts and into some pants I’ll have them around your ankles by lunch time.” He purred in your ear as you set down the cooler, wrapping his stick around your back and drawing you close.
“Ha! I’m not playing lacrosse in pants, Hugh!” You said with a shake of your head. “But keep that in mind for later. Can you believe none of the other girls brought sticks?”
“Honey, none of them play lacrosse.” He chided as he watched you stretch.
“Well then what’s the point of... oh goddamn it!” You rolled your eyes as you stood up. “This was supposed to be another boy’s outing where I sit with the other girls and get wine drunk wasn’t it? Don’t answer that! Chauvinist assholes...”
He just chuckled as he watched you mutter to yourself angrily, grabbing your extra sticks and storming off towards the other girls, gesturing wildly as you tried to go over the basics with them.
“So, the girls are playing then?” Dylan asked as he came to stand by Ransom, grabbing an IPA from the cooler and taking a gulp.
“Sure seems that way.” Ran answered as he watched you shove a stick at Lexi and make a throwing motion that she tried to emulate feebly.
“Is this gonna be another day of your girlfriend showing us all up, Drysdale?” Chaz asked as he joined the two of them, chuckling as they tried to figure out exactly what you were trying to instruct the girls on now. “Cuz I don’t think my ego can take it.”
“I dunno what to tell you man.” Ran said with a shrug, grabbing himself a beer and drinking deep. “Quit inviting us to this shit if you don’t want her to hand your ass back to you.”
“Alright douchebags, lets play some lacrosse!” You screamed at them, a massive grin splitting your face.
“I can’t decide if having her on my team or playing against her will be worse.” Logan groaned as the four men walked towards the field apprehensively.
“Alright, should we split this up by couples or what?” Dylan asked as Lexi moved to stand next to him.
“Sounds good to me.” You beamed.
“Great, so Y/N, Ran , Chaz and Brit, you guys can play together and me, Jess, Logan, and Lex will be the other team. Girls play defense.”
“Sounds good.” Ran said fast before you had a chance to start an argument, guiding you away from the center of the field quickly.
“But I play attack, babe.” You whined as he walked next to you and stopped in front of the goal.
“Yeah, I think that you playing attack might be a little too much all at once sweetie.” He said with a shrug as he moved to middle position. “Just channel that frustration babe, you’ll do great!”
You just chewed on your lip as you watched Logan and Chaz grapple for the ball. Logan won out, barreling over Chaz and spinning past Ran like a pro. You smirked as you pivoted towards him, bracing yourself as you charged each other.
He shifted his weight to spin around you and you grinned before full body checking him, ripping the stick out of his hand and helicoptering it out of his grip as you tossed him over your shoulder. You scooped the ball up and lobbed it to Ransom as you sprinted up the field. He passed it back to you when Dylan tried to take him down and you snatched it out of the air before diving around a confused looking Lexi and chucking the ball at the net, grinning when it sailed past Jess for a point.
“Goddamn it!” Dylan groaned as you jogged past him back to your position, giving Ransom a celebratory high five that he followed up with a smack on the ass as he grinned at you.
Logan was still trying to stand up as you returned to your defensive position, glaring at you as he ran a hand through his hair.
“How the fuck was that not a foul?!” He seethed at you.
“A foul?!” You shouted with an air of disdain. “Don’t be a pussy Van Doren! You bring that weak shit to my house and I’m serving it right back to you! Right babe?”
“That’s right babe!” Ran shouted back to you as he shrugged apologetically at Logan when he stalked past him.
The rest of the game went about the same, you hardly let anyone past and Logan flinched so bad every time you got near him it was easy for your team to dominate. Dylan finally called a stop after an hour, he and Logan covered in dirt and bruises from the rough play.
“That’s it, we’re done. I need a fucking drink.” He huffed as he dragged himself off the field, Lexi bouncing next to him excitedly. Apparently, one of the things you had been teaching the girls was how to hit, and she had cracked Chaz and Ransom a couple of times. You grinned and congratulated her and the other girls on a game well played as you moved to grab a porter from the cooler.
“Jesus Christ, Drysdale. That woman is a damn menace.” Logan groaned as he grabbed a bag of ice and pressed it against his ribs.
“Yeah, how the fuck do you keep up with her?” Chaz asked, shaking his head as sipped his lager. “She’s barely sweating.”
“I don’t even know man.” He said with a shrug, gasping for air as he chugged his IPA. “She’s a fucking pistol.”
“Not the word I’d use but whatever.” Logan said, annoyed at you two.
“Shut up, L, you’re just pissed she beat the shit out of you.” Dylan said with a grin. “Where you going, Ran?”
“Gotta take a leak!” Ransom lied as he jerked his head towards the trees suggestively after making eye contact with you.
“Scuse me gals, I gotta help Hugh with something.” You said around a grin after chugging the rest of your beer.
“Jesus, you two will do it anywhere, huh?” Brittney said with an eye roll.
You just shrugged at her as you jogged after Ransom towards the small clutch of pines.
Ransom grabbed you around your waist and swung you off your feet when you reached him, making you squeal before he smashed his lips against yours.
“You were amazing.” He purred as he pressed you up against a tree, running his lips up and down your throat and making you whine.
“Yeah, I’m a fucking legend babe. I told you.” You muttered around a grin. “Did you see those hits I landed?”
“Mmhm, sure did.” He mumbled, nipping at the hollow behind your ear that he knew drove you crazy as his hips ground against you.
“You ever eat a legend’s pussy, Hugh?” You teased, starting to shove his head down between your legs.
“Are you fucking kidding me? Y/N!” He whined as you forced him to his knees. “I was kinda hoping we could both get something out of this.”
“Sorry babe, middle gets whatever attack says they get.” You said with a shrug as you slid your shorts off and hooked your leg over his shoulder. “Make me come with that pretty mouth and maybe I’ll let you get your dick wet.”
“Bitch.” He murmured as he started brushing his lips over your inner thigh, no real malice in his tone as he gazed at you through his lashes.
“That’s right Hugh, I’m the fucking bitch. Now lick it.”
He ran his nose over your clothed core and inhaled deeply before shoving your panties aside. You moaned as he dragged his tongue over your slit, lapping up the evidence of your arousal before swirling his tongue through your folds.
His hands moved under your ass and tilted your hips towards his face, giving him even more access to your dripping heat. Your fingers gripped his hair painfully when he flicked his tongue over your asshole in a quick series of kitten licks before moving it in a heavy stripe back up to your clit.
You had to bite your lip to keep from screaming when he slid a finger inside you, curling it in a come hither motion at the same time he pressed his tongue against your clit. He lashed your bundle of nerves lightly as you writhed against him, your head thumping back against the tree as he slipped in a second finger.
His lips wrapped around your clit as he started fucking you with his digits, curling and twisting them inside you so he hit every spot he knew would drive you absolutely crazy. You felt him grin against you as he shook his head to bury himself deeper in your folds, groaning when he felt you clench around his fingers.
“Fuck, Ransom! I’m so close.” You panted breathlessly, grinding your pussy into his face as you neared the edge.
You felt him slide his pinky into your puckered hole, spearing past the tight ring of muscle until you felt the cool metal of his ring against your entrance and you fucking lost it.
Your thighs tried to crush his skull as you came violently, somehow managing to swallow the shriek that tried to rip out of your chest. He moaned as he ran his tongue over your pussy to collect your release as it ran over his fingers while you clenched and fluttered around him.
“How was that, champ?” He said around a wicked grin once you finally released his head, sliding his hands up your body as he stood up.
“Good... it was good.” You panted as he buried his face in your neck.
“Yeah? Good enough for you to help me out, babe?” He asked, grinding his hips into you to show you how hard he was at the same time he wrenched your polo and sports bra up to expose your breasts.
“I think we can work something out.” You murmured as he palmed your breast with one hand while the other splayed over your ass.
“What did you have in mind, sweetheart?” He hummed as his lips moved over your throat softly.
“Oh, I dunno. Something extra special for my favorite middle.” You purred, pushing him away from you a little bit so you could turn around.
“Fuck, really?” He beamed, running his hand over your ass as he pressed you into the tree.
“Really, you did such a good job, baby, you deserve a reward.” You said as you peeked are him over your shoulder. “Now fuck my ass until I come again, Hugh.”
He chuckled darkly into your hair as he slid his shorts down his legs and drew his cock out of his boxer briefs. You moaned as he ran his length through your slick before he pressed his tip against your pretty hole. The groan he let out as he speared into you made your pussy clench around nothing, fluttering as your body tried to draw him as deep as possible until he was fully sheathed in you and his hips were resting against your ass.
“Shit. Oh my god.” He hissed into your shoulder as he stilled his hips for a beat. “You feel so fucking good, baby.”
“Yeah, I know.” You mumbled as the tree bark scratched at your cheek. “Could you move? I’d like to have another orgasm sometime before noon.”
“So fucking bossy.” He groaned before sliding out of you halfway and slamming back into you, making you yelp.
You moaned as he finally started fucking you, his hips moving at a vicious pace as he bounced you against the tree. He wrapped a hand around your throat and squeezed lightly as he drew you back against his chest.
“Love when you let me fuck your ass, baby.” He growled in your ear as his hips slapped against your cheeks, making you mewl as slick started leaking down your thighs from your aching pussy. “Love how wet you get and how you strangle my cock. You want my fingers in that tight little pussy?”
“Yeah.” You whined as he teased his fingers over your clit. “Need you in my pussy so bad Ran, I’m gonna come.”
He sucked your earlobe between his teeth and spanked your pussy before shoving three fingers inside you as you came with a shriek, your body arching against him as you spasmed uncontrollably.
“Jesus, you’re squeezing me so good.” He groaned as you came down, sobbing with pleasure and sagging against him. “I’m gonna fill this ass up.”
You felt his cock throbbing inside you at the same time he twisted his fingers and you screamed, your release gushing out of you and soaking his thighs as he filled you with his spend, pressing you against the tree and sinking his teeth into your shoulder as his hips jerked. He groaned into your hair as he shoved his cum deep inside you and pulled his fingers from your swollen cunt.
“Holy fuck.” He mumbled into your hair before sucking his fingers into his mouth and groaning at your taste.
“Yeah.” You murmured as you yanked your bra and shirt back down and pulled your panties back into place before bending over to slide your shorts back on. “You should’ve lettered in that.”

You parked the car in the courtyard of the hotel and took out the keys. You opened the doors and took the huge bouquet of red roses from the passengers seat next to you. Looking at the flowers, you smiled and then decided to leave the car.
Loking it with the keys, you hid them in your pocket and looked if the roses were alright. Julie had a really busy weekend and even if it was Monday, she left from home really early.
You walked to the front doors of the hotel and you weren´t surprised they were opened. Quickly getting inside of the hotel, you knew where to search if you wanted to find your girlfriend quickly.
“Searching for Julie?” A similar voice filled the hall where you were standing with the roses in your arms and you turned. It was Hugh, with a huge smile from ear to ear and her was cleaning his hands with a napkin. Seeing scrumbs on his suit, you knew that he was eating before and then you just smiled.
“Is it that obvious?” You asked him and then you nodded, waiting for the instructions.
“She is in the canteen,” he told you with a little smile and you nodded to him, catching his eyes on the roses which you bought for Julie.
“Oh and Hugh-” you called for him when you realized that he was quickly leaving. He turned to you, waiting for what else did you want to tell him. “I was thinking... I want to take Julie somewhere for the weekend, can she...”
“You know Y/n, we will have a wedding here and you know how she loves the weddings,” Hugh informed you and you nodded to him, but you already knew about the wedding. “If she will want to, she is free for the weekend,” he said and your eyes lit up and smile widened.
“Thank you so much,” you thanked him and Hugh just shrugged.
“But I am not sure if she will want to leave,” he said and with these words, he left you alone.
You quickly turned to the doors of the canteen when Hugh told you you will find her. You opened the doors quietly and looked around in the room, seeing only prepared tables with cutlery, glasses and plates on it, you saw the chairs prepared, but the woman you were searching for was nowhere to find.
You walked over to the table closest to you and looked at it. Everything was prepared on the table and you exactly knew who´s work was this. You just smiled over this and you heard the doors open. You knew who was that, so you turned to the doors with a huge smile to greet her and yell “surprise”, but you were shocked by what you saw.
It was him. Michael. His face was all red, his shirt looked really messy, like the whole man. He was angry and as he saw you, his eyes fell onto the roses.
“You bitch!” He yelled and wanted to rush to you, but Angela and Paulina quickly rushed to him from behind you. Both of the poor women tried to stop him, but they weren´t that strong as Michael was.
The roses found their place on the table as you put them there and all you could focus on, was the woman in hotel uniform and purple shirt under it. You looked behind Michael - bad move. He got rid of Paulina and Angela and slapped you across the face.
“You were fucking my wife! How long?? For how long?!” He yelled at the whole room you were in and just now you realized that there were few people eating at the tables opposite to you. Your hand flew to your cheek and you held it as it got warm and you were sure it was red by the moment.
“Michael-” Julie tried to stop him and when you heard her voice, you heart broke into milion pieces. Michael turned to face Julie and without letting her say another word than his name, he slapped her as well. But this hit was a lot harder than that one which hit you. Julie fell onto the floor and your eyes wide opened.
“You cunt-”
“Mr. Ranmore you have to leave now or I will call the police,” Angela said from behind him and Michael turned to see Angela. Then he saw the roses on the table and as the words arrived to his brain, he breathed out angrily, turned on his heel and he rushed out of the room.
Tears rolled down on your cheeks, not from the pain you felt at the moment, but because of the woman laying on the floor. She carefully supported herslef on her hands and raised her upper body. WIth a shaking hand she cupped her cheek and hissed in pain.
“Julie,” you breathed out and rushed to her, immediately kneeling onto the floor. You took Julie by her armpits and you really carefully hugged her.
“Y-Y/n,” Julie sobbed quietly and you really gently took her by her chin. Julie let you turn her face to you and as you saw a huge red spot left, your lungs shook in your chest.
“It is alright, I am here,” you whispered to her and looked around at the people. They were still watching you. “Maybe we should go to the restrooms. Can you get up?” You asked her quietly and Julie nodded to you. You got up with her really carefully and hugged her around her shoulders, not looking at the costumers the hotel had at the moment.
You led Julie out of the room and turned with her to the restrooms. Your cheek was burning as well, but you didn´t care about it. You were holding another hurt woman on her feet and leading her to the restrooms.
As you arrived, you opened the doors and led Julie to the sinks. You took few tissues and immedately showed them under the cold water, listening to Julie´s quiet sobs.
“Y-you shouldn´t have c-came here,” she sobbed and you really carefully held the cold tissue from water on her hurt cheek. She lifted her hand and took it from you, but her eyes fell onto your cheek as well. “H-he slapped you too.”
“I am alright Julie,” you told her and Julie held out her napkin. You shook your head and took another one, placing it under the tap and you pressed it against your cheek, just like Julie did.
“Why did you- why did you come,” Julie asked, trying not to get cut off by a sob, unsucessfuly.
“I talked to Hugh about this weekend,” you said and Julie looked at you with her eyes wide opened.
“The roses- on the table-”
“Yes, they were from me,” you smiled a little and then hissed in pain. “He said you can take two days off,” you told Julie and her eyes shone.
“He did?” She asked you happily and that was the moment when Angela and Paulina rushed into the restrooms.
“Oh my god. Are you two okay?” Angela walked to you and Paulina checked Julie. You nodded to them both and Julie just smiled a little, taking the napkin off her cheek.
“I am so sorry Julie,” Paulina apologized and Julie just smiled at her, shaking her head.
“Did the costumers leave or?” She asked, washing her hands. Sniffling quietly, she wanted to adjust her uniform, when you realized it was ripped on her back.
“It doesn´t matter,” Paulina said, making Julie look at her in surprise.
“It does matter. We´ve got work to do. Paulina, you serve the costumers and I will go to apologize, Angela you-”
“No Julie,” you stepped in and got closer to her. “We are now going to get some hotel room keys and we are going to get changed,” you told her and looked at Paulina. She pulled out keys and Julie looked at her in shock.
“I am sorry-”
“Paulina you are not supposed to have sex with somebody in a hotel room!” Julie hissed and Paulina shook her head.
“I didn´t. Now go and get yourself together. Sorry boss, you look horrible,” she said and Julie took a deep breath.
“Back to work. I will go and check on you in few minutes,” Julie promised to them, but two young women were already walking away from the bathrooms.
You took Julie by her hand and pulled her outside of the restrooms. You looked around with Julie behind your back and you started walking in the direction of the room. As you arrived, you unlocked the doors and then let Julie walk in.
“I am sorry you had to see that,” Julie apologized and she walked over to the bed, taking off her hotel clothes. She took off the jacket and she stayed only in the shirt and high wasted pencil skirt in which was the shirt tucked in.
“Julie I am your girlfriend,” you reminded her of the facts and Julie just nodded to you.
Julie checked her clothes if she should´ve got re-dressed, since her uniform was ripped on her back. The shirt looked okay and the pencil skirt too, so she didn´t change her clothes, just hung the blazer on her forearm.
“Can we?” Julie asked you in a pretty cold voice and you nodded to her. Letting the woman open the doors for you, you slid outside of the hotel room, unseen. Julie closed the doors and she locked them, trying to stay really quiet. When the doors were locked, she stepped to you and nodded into the corridor. “Reception.”
“Yes boss,” you told her even if you weren´t her employee. Julie took you by your hand and led you to the reception, where she put the key onto the right place on the wall. Then she turned back to you and looked around.
“I need to get some things done. You are so sweet and thank you for those flowers and-”
“You have the weekend off,” you told her, the realization hitting her.
“We have a wedding planned-”
“Yes I know. But I am sure the girls can do it,” you told her and Julie shook her head.
“No I can´t, it is a big wedding I have to be here to check if everything will go according to plan and-”
“Julie you need those two days off. Hugh knows about it, he said you can. And the girls are skilled enough, so they can do it even without you,” you told her and Julie took a deep breath to complain, but you didn´t let her. “We are leaving on Saturday morning,” you said, watching Julie´s lips widen into a smile.
“I love you Y/n.”
“I love you too Julie,” you told her back and then you winked. “I will wait in the lobby until you´re done with work,” you told her and Julie smiled.
“Just twenty more minutes and we can leave,” she promised you and you kissed her softly onto her lips. Julie blushed rapidly as you both pulled away and with a smile on her face, she turned around, leaving.

Her Lover
Alma LeFay Peregrine x fem!reader
Warnings: abuse, swearing, death, fluff, angst
Words: 5k
A/N: it’s been a while, hasn’t it. Lol. I’ve been having my exams and shit and I’ve been working on this for the longest time so I’m really sorry if there’s a word that’s not supposed to be there, I don’t really proof read. But hopefully more stuff shall be coming soon. Ta ta! Xx
Tumblr media
Jake was surprised, it was all real. What his grandfather had told him, all those stories. They were real. It was unbelievable. At first, when he saw the boomed children's home he didn't really believe it. As that man said at the pub. 3 September 1943. No one survived, but then how come Miss Peregrine's letter had only come 2 years before to his grandfather. How was that even possible?
When we first entered the loop, he of course ran away and nearly got himself killed. Thankfully his new friends saved him from those angry Walsh people. The house looked so different from those ruins he saw. It was actually a very beautiful house. Big and tall and all those flowers growing up on the sides. Completely different.
Miss Peregrine wasn't anything like he'd expected. Not at all, despite from all the stories he'd got from his grandfather. Apparently she was the bird flying above him and his father when they first arrived to Cairnholm. Ever since Jake arrived, he'd notice that on the bird's right hand, her ring finger. There was a small ring with a single diamond. Jake knew it wasn't probably wasn't his thing to ask, but he didn't see anyone else then the people he'd already seen. His grandfather had never really mentioned anything or anyone else then the ones he'd already talked about.
He had helped Emma with the baby squirrel, it was a bit awkward wrapping the rope around her waist. He'd noticed Miss Peregrine's glare, it was uneasy. As if she felt some sort of jealousy? But that was ridiculous. Absurd. Jake had agreed to join them for supper. Emma was helping him in his grandfather's old room. He just couldn't but ask.
"Emma, could I ask you a question?"
"Jake, I told you that there are questions I can't answer." Emma said as she tied his tie.
"I know, but it's just. Does Miss Peregrine love you? Like, that way?"
Emma stilled. Almost uncomfortably.
"Jake. What's got you to even think of such disgusting things?!"
"I'm sorry! It's just, I saw her glare." Jake held his hands up in defeat.
Emma let out a sigh. Looked down before looking up again. "You must understand. Miss Peregrine, well all of us lost someone dear. It's taking her long time to actually get back to who she is. So please, stop asking questions." As she finished speaking the bell rang. They both walked down together and Jake almost sat down on Millard.
"Millard. Go and put some clothes on. Polite persons do not take their supper in the nude."
Jake almost felt sorry for him, he didn't mean to take his place really. He couldn't see him, obviously. He was, well he is invisible. During dinner, he couldn't help but stare at Miss Peregrine's right hand with that ring. Her long slim fingers with those long nails. The ring was silver. The small diamond was pretty. And shiny.
"Claire, why aren't you eating?" Miss Peregrine asked, looking with worry to Claire. Chewing on the piece of food.
"She's embarrassed in front of Jake." Hugh said, leaning over to Claire.
Jake shook his head. "Don't be. Please."
Claire looked over at Miss Peregrine with a small smile and Miss Peregrine sent Claire a wink before turning back to her own food. Claire grabbed the chicken leg and put it behind her head and a few seconds later she put the clean bone back on her plate.
"So Jake, what's your peculiarity?" Horace asked. Leaning over the table a bit to see Jake as he asked.
"Oh, I'm not peculiar." Jake stammered.
Enoch put down his fork and knife and said, "And that, my friends, is why he will not be staying with us. No matter how hard we try to persuade him."
Miss Peregrine spoke up again. Her voice light but firm. "We've spoken about this. Jake is just visiting."
Hugh opened his mouth, "He might want to say."
"Don't you want to stay, Jake?" Olive asked.
"Tonight? Or..-" Jake didn't get a chance to finish of his sentence before Claire irrupted him.
"Forever! You should stay forever." Her smile big.
"Why would he, if he doesn't have to? He can live out there, grow older, have a good time instead." Enoch said. Trying to make a clear point of why he didn't want Jake in the house. Jake could feel Emma slightly lift from her seat despite being strapped down. She was getting uncomfortable.
"He'll leave, just like his grandfather did." With that, Enoch started eating again and Emma got up and practically ran out of the room despite her heavy shoes. Miss Peregrine's call for Emma didn't stop her. As Emma left, a clothed Millard came into the room. Excusing himself. Sitting down and starting to eat his own food.
"Deep breathes Alma, you know how dear Enoch gets with new company."
Miss Peregrine closed her eyes at the voice inside her head. She was right. She slowly got up as the telephone rang. "I think you should all get ready for movie time while I answer that."
"But you always let us stay for it." Claire begged. Miss Peregrine turned around and gave the children a glare that almost scared Jake. She was a strange woman, yes she was. Miss Peregrine stepped out to the hallway, to the ringing telephone. This time, she nearly didn't answer it. Wishing the voice inside her head would come back. Missing the touch of that person with the voice nearly threw her off guard. She nearly kicked herself from going off schedule. Shaking her head, she answered the telephone and went on with the schedule.
The time went on, again. Horace's projected his dreams. One particular dream made Alma tense up. She couldn't watch it. She turned on the lights and heard all the groans from the children. It was almost re-set time. Olive asked Jake to stay and see the re-set. Enoch clearly didn't want him to. Alma felt herself chuckle softly. The arguments between Enoch and re-set. Alma stepped out in her raincoat and put on her gas mask after putting on the music. Run Rabbit Run. She would always sing along to the song-Alma kicked herself mentally again. She stopped her clock, she turned it 24 times to represent the 24 hours of the loop. She took of the gas mask and smiled towards her children.
She said her goodnight to the other children as Emma and Jake made their way out the door. Her smile faded as they disappeared from her view. She closed the door, knowing Emma would lock it. She slowly made her way up the stairs, to the end of the hallway, to her bedroom. She opened the door and walked in and closed the door again and locked it. Leaning against the door and closing her eyes.
"You know me better then I do. Can't seem to keep nothing from you. How you touch my soul from the outside. I still love you even though I'm scared. Learning to be grateful of myself. I wish I could love me like you did, how I wish I could trust myself like you did."
She moved from the door and towards her desk and sat down and started unpinning her hair. Brushing through her hair slowly. That black-blue hair. The little curls. She got undressed and dressed in her lacy nightgown and brushed her teeth and took off the makeup she'd been carrying during the day. She laid down in the cold bed, shivering slightly. Falling asleep after a few minutes.
***
"Clarice! Clarice come on. We have to get back. We can't stay in La Pari forever. We've been gone 7 years too long!" Claire let out a groan and stopped walking. "But Y/N! I love Paris!" Y/N shook her head. Her little sister was definitely a number. "Well, you wrote to Alma we'd be home, so let's go." Clarice didn't move. "I? I didn't write. She's your wife." Y/N felt herself tense up. Oh no. Y/N had forgotten to write, and she'd hopped her darling sister had written.
"When was the last time You wrote back home Clarice." Y/N looking over at her sister, with a glare almost identical to Alma's. Clarice bit her bottom lip. "5 years ago." Y/N felt her head spinning. She sat down and rubbed her forehead. Clarice started laughing. "What's so funny?!" Clarice threw her head back in laughter.
"Oh lord, the handful you will get when you get back. I mean Abe will definitely be in her side." Clarice said while patting her older sister's shoulder. "God. She'd kill me. I swear, I didn't mean to forget and I thought you'd been writing." Clarice shook her head. "But you're right. Let's go home."
***
"Jake, you're back. How wonderful." Miss Peregrine said as she held the Ymbryne tight to her.
"How's it doing?" Jake asked. "Emma said it was an Ymbryne."
"She. Not 'it'. Ymbrynes are always female." Miss Peregrine said as she looked up at Jake. "And Emma was quite correct. This is Miss Avocet." Miss Peregrine continued to give Miss Avocet the medicine.
"Her loop's in Blackpool, England." Jake said. Miss Peregrine slowly turned her head up towards him and saw him holding a piece of paper. "That was a private letter, Jake." She said as she put down the medication.
"Who is Mr. Barron?" Jake asked, slightly raising his voice.
Miss Peregrine's face expression turned blank and her right hand came almost protectively over Miss Avocet.
"Miss Peregrine, if my grandpa was involved with dangerous people. I need to tell the police." Miss Peregrine looked up at Jake again, her brows knitted with confusion.
"Police? Are you implying Abe died an unnatural death?" Her voice going quiet.
"I found him in the woods, with his eyes missing. I'd say that was pretty unnatural." Jake said as he watched Miss Peregrine raise from her chair. Miss Peregrine looked at Jake in disappointment, snatching the letter out of his hands.
"Unless essential, I don't discuss unpleasant matters. An Ymbryne's duty is to protect children, Jake." With that, she left the room, almost in a hurry.
"I'm not a child! He wanted you to tell me everything!" Jake shouted after her. Jake let out a sigh of frustration and walked down the hallway and was stopped when both Enoch and Olive came into his view.
"Oh. How frustrating for you. Between Miss Peregrine's rules and my housemates' little pact not to scare you off, it's like no one's telling you anything." Enoch was sarcastic. Olive stood quietly behind him. Jake leaned forward.
"Why don't you, then? It's not like you want me here."
This time, Olive spoke up.
"Enoch, you can't. You promised." Enoch looked back at Olive before answering.
"Olive's right. I do know someone who can get away with breaking rules though. Want to meet him?" Jake looked a bit uneasy at Enoch before following him up the stairs. Olive behind them.
"Enoch, don't do this. Please!" She grabbed his arm, begging him not to do whatever he was going to do.
"You want to spend time with me and Jake, we can all play together. That's what you said." Enoch said as they reached a door at the end of the hallway. Olive stood in front of them. Not letting them pass through the door.
"Well, here we all are." Enoch said. Olive looked up at him with a bit ready expression. "Move Olive."
"If you're going to be like that, then I don't want to be your friend." With that, Olive left. Sobbing quietly to herself while walking down the hallway.
"Enoch, leave Victor alone. It really upsets Bronwyn." Fiona said as she walked up to Enoch and Jake. Enoch put both his hands on Fiona's shoulders, "Stop fussing, Fiona. Don't you think Jake should meet everybody?" He said while looking over at Jake.
"He's trying to frighten you away, Jake. He's always jealous of Abe. And now he's jealous of you. Come and play with us instead."
Enoch crossed his arms and looked at Jake, waiting for an answer. Jake didn't really know what to say.
"I'd quite like to meet Victor." Jake said after some time. Enoch smiled and ruffed Fiona's hair. Enoch opened the door, letting Jake walk in. "After you."
In the middle of the room there was a bed, covered in thin layers of fabric, and Jake saw Victor, lying there. He slowly walked in, moving with small steps towards the bed.
"Hello, Victor. I'm Jake. I'm sorry to disturb.." Jake looked down at Victor. His eyes were missing.
"Yeah, he can't hear you." Enoch said. Enoch got on his knees and opened Victor's shirt and put the heart he held down into Victor's chest. Jake saw how Victor's chest started to heavy. Almost like a jump scare in movies, Victor sat up and looked over at Jake.
"Hello, Jake. I'm Victor. Do you want to know what killed me?" Almost like a puppet he was. It scared Jake and he ran out of the room, downstairs where Miss Peregrine and the rest of the children were waiting.
"Ah, there you are. Is Enoch with you? It'd time for our daily walk." Miss Peregrine said.
***
Alma walked into the room where Victor lay. Sighing once seeing Victor's covers down. She pulled them up, making sure they covered him and slowly sat down. Noticing the tear falling down his cheek. Softly wiping it away and pulling him up and held him against her chest.
One of the most disappointing things she'd ever done. How she couldn't be able to save Victor, how she'd let her poor child die. She never meant for him to die, she never meant for Bronwyn to lose her brother. Alma felt herself tear up.
"It's alright Alma, you did what you could and for that, Victor will forever be grateful."
She really wanted to believe those words. Oh, how hard life could be. She couldn't let herself to cry. She'd always say it was alright to cry, but Alma just couldn't. She slowly put Victor back in his place and looked at her watch. She had a few minutes before the children would be back, but she had to keep schedule.
Alma walked out of the room, closing the door. Walking down the hallway to the right and then further down that hallway and then into her own bedroom. Closing the door behind her, locking it. Just in case. She quickly walked over to the dressed against the wall, opened a drawer and pulled out a shirt that didn't belong to her.
Sticking her nose deep into the fabric, closing her eyes and breathing in the familiar sent. Holding onto the shirt tightly. Alma felt her eyes sting.
Why did life have to be so cruel? Why couldn't just one person live a life and be happy. Is it only fairytales that get their happy endings and not people in the real world? Was the 'perfect' life all just a big lie that you were told on the television outisde loops? Why couldn't you just live yourself in your dreams? Wouldn't life be so much better if you could? It would save all troubles from people.
Alma slowly sat down on the bed. Still holding the shirt tightly to her. Breathing in the sent again. Letting her eyes roll back for just a second. Accidentally losing herself in the sent. Letting a soft moan escape her mouth which caused her to blush. Hand covering her mouth as she blushed even more.
"My shirt hm?"
Alma turned around with a gasp. No one was there, she let out a sigh. Alma got up again, checked her clock and put the shirt back in the drawer and walked downstairs. Waiting for the children to arrive back home.
***
"Clarice, where was the loop again?"
"You can't be serious. We lived with Alma for years, you're married to her for gods sake!" Clarice sat down in the damp grass, crossing her arms. Letting out a huff.
"Awh, stop acting like a bloody kid! Maybe help me instead of acting like such a bloody moron!" Y/N answered to her sister.
She let out a huff and sat down on a rock. Y/N felt bad. She'd been gone 7 years too long and Alma probably thought she was dead. Just because her little sister didn't write as she used to. Y/N reaches into her pocket and pulled out a few photos. Photos she took, before she left.
Tumblr media
Most were of Alma. It was one of the only times she'd let her time be taken from her. She missed the bird.
"Could you stop sobbing and perhaps do something to help? You cant stare at th-hey. Y/N. Was that Abe?"
Y/N looked up and saw nothing. She turned to her sister and hit the back of her head.
"Very funny."
***
The children were packing after they're realisation that they couldn't stay. As Alma had finally gotten the suitcase to close, thanks to the twins, the doorbell rang. How odd. She hadn't expected anyone. Alma walked up towards the door and opened the door and felt her whole body tense.
"Miss Peregrine, what a pleasure to meet you at last!"
Mr. Barron was holding his hand shaped knife against Jake's neck. Alma felt her breathing stop for only a second. What on earth was happening?!
"May we come in?"
Alma took a few steps back, letting him inside the house. Her children standing on the stairs.
"Children! Would you make your way down the stairs, please?" Mr. Barron shouted.
Alma raised her voice. "I give the orders in this house, Mr. Barron." Looking at him sternly.
"Not today. You should know that Jake has served his purpose. If you value his life, I suggest everyone does as they're told. Children!"
Alma raised her finger and shushed him. "No one tells my children what to do!" Alma turned around, a split of disgust in her expression. "Children, come down here, please." Her voice was strong but soft.
The children made their way slowly down the stairs.
"Miss Peregrine-"
"I thought I told you to be quiet." Alma snapped back at him. Giving him one of her famous death glares. She slowly made her way around again to look at her beautiful children. Knowing she might never see them again.
"Children, for Jake's safety, we're going to do what Mr. Barron asks. He wishes to take me with him to his rendezvous in Blackpool. So, for his protection, he'd like me to assume bird form, preferably caged. And he'd like you to make your way into a lockable room, such as the parlour." Alma turned her frame towards the parlour then back to her children before turning around to look at Mr. Barron.
"As he won't release Jake if he fears an attack could be mounted upon him once he loses his leverage. Correct, Mr. Barron?" Alma raised her chin, showing how she awfully despised him. Mr. Barron was at loss of words.
"You're sacrificing yourself and all of us, for Jake?"
Came behind her, Alma turned around and looked at Enoch.
"Me. Barrons travels with a Hollow, Enoch. Once it arrives here, we're all dead." She could almost feels Mr. Barron's wicked grin behind her. Alma saw Horace lean in to whisper something to Enoch but didn't bother to listen. It took everything not to shed a tear. She'd lost everything now. The woman she loved the most, her dear children. Everything.
She moved towards the parlours door and said her goodbye to each child that passed her, ending with a hug from Emma and the twins which made her she'd a tear. Once every child was inside the parlour, she grabbed the door handle to each door and took a deep breath and looked over her children.
"It's been my privilege, to care for you all. Goodbye my children."
Alma closed the doors and turned the lock and turned to face Barron, showing her anger through her tear stained cheeks. Taking steps forward.
"Now let him go."
"Oh, but the fun's just begun Alma." Barron let out a low chuckle.
"How dare you speak my name, filthy bastard." Alma tightened her tone. Growing more impatient by each second that passed.
Barron let out another chuckle, this time of surprise.
"My my, what words those pretty lips let out. Tell me, how's dear old Y/N doing?"
Alma clenched her jaw. Feeling as she might explode.
"How dare you speak her name?! How dare you come here, act like you own everything I have. You took her from me! How dare you mention anything of her's. I know what you did to her family, how her parents practically coward before you. On their knees begging to not die. Letting their dear children's lives pay their depth."
As Alma continued, Barron only chuckled. Jake was confused. Who was Y/N? What did this woman mean to Miss Peregrine?
"Technically I wasn't the one who sold her, her mother was. Her dear parents are still loyal to me as ever. I'd never gotten a chance to meet dear Y/N. So tell me, where is she?"
This time, it was Alma's time to be confused.
"What do you mean by that. No tricks Mr. Barron. I want the honest truth."
As he let Jake go, letting out a groan. "Listen, lady. I'd never meet her. If I had, do you think I'd be asking you? So come now Miss Peregrine. Where is she. Her mommy and daddy just wanna say hello."
Alma felt herself start to tremble. Y/N hadn't been in Barron's possession.
She'd spoken to Jake. Begging him to care of her children before turning into bird form. Flying into the cage. Leaving with Mr. Barron. If her dearest was really alive, she'd never see her again. Nor her beloved children.
***
"Emma, I have a question. Look-I know you don't answer them but it's about something Miss Peregrine said before she turned into a bird. Who's Y/N?"
Emma went quiet for a moment, not really wanting to speak. Jake let out a sigh and continued to talk.
"Mr. Barron said he'd never meet Y/N before. What does this mean-who is she?" Jake looked t Emma who's eyes looked at his. A slight tone of happiness appearing on her face.
"So, that means she could still possibly be alive." Emma's smile got bigger.
"Who is she? Is she another peculiar?" Jake was growing impatient.
Emma sighed. "Alright, if I tell you. Will you stop asking?"
Jake nodded his head and sat down and waited for Emma to speak.
"Y/N came to our home years ago, before Miss Peregrine had made the loop. She came with her sister Clarice. When they came they were both pretty young. I think Clarice was 15 and Y/N perhaps 20. I heard Miss Peregrine talk with them about what had happened to them. It wasn't really, nice."
Emma sat down herself and took a deep breath.
"Mr. Barron came to their house, in the middle of the night and killed their brother, well took his eyes. He was around 8. She talked about how their parents had sold them to Barron for their own safety. But before Barron could touch them they'd ran away. They'd taken the boat and arrived here."
Jake listened as she explained more about Y/Nk's past. But there was just one question bothering him.
"What about the ring on Miss Peregrine's finger?" Jake asked.
"Y/N and Miss Peregrine kinda fell for each other. A few years after the loop was created, they got married. Then again a few years later, perhaps 7 years ago. Both of them left, Y/N and her sister. But after two years they stopped writing back home. We heard nothing from them and since Barron wanted to recreate the experiment Miss Peregrine told you about.”
Jake nodded, shocked. He had nothing against the LGBT community but he’d never thought Miss Peregrine was a lesbian. Perhaps she wasn’t, maybe just fell for the one person she trusted most.
They went on, the plan to save Miss Peregrine.
***
“Clarice, fix it. Please. Something has happened.”
Y/N was panicking. The loop was gone, not a child in sight. Alma wasn’t here either. Clarice had the peculiarity of restoring time, she restored the loop. Made everything go back to normal. The house looked itself again but no child was there. What the hell happened. How long has the house been like this? Clarice was too busy walking to her room.
Y/N looked around, saw suitcases. Were they leaving? But why, and where? It felt strange being back in the house, but with everyone gone. Y/N walked around, touching the walls and everything. Y/N walked upstairs and into the bedroom she once shared with Alma and closed the door behind her. Alma’s perfume hitting her like a smack in the face. The scent of smoke, flowers.
She pulled open the drawer and pulled out one of the dark blue lacy nightgowns and spelled. Alma. Y/N looked out the window. It was dark and it was raining. Y/N loved the rain. She walked over to the window and sat down by the window and opened it to listen to the rain and felt herself drift off into sleep.
***
Alma opened the door and walked in. How in the hell was the house still standing? She hadn’t reset the loop. She was wet and she was tired and drained. She quickly walked into the bathroom connected to her room and took a warm, long and hot shower. She wrapped the towel around herself and stepped out. Looking in the drawer for her nightgown but it wasn’t there. Alma turned her head to the figure she saw sitting by the window and nearly had a heart attack.
She grabbed her pillow and hit Y/N with it multiple times.
“You reckless little-“
“Alma, hey! Stop hitting me!”
“I have every right to be angry at you! I thought you were dead. For 7 years you’ve been gone and then you stop writing?!”
Y/N could see Alma’s cheeks turning red from anger. She stepped forward, grabbing the pillow out of Alma’s hands and kissed her knuckles. Which made Alma shut up.
“Why’d you do that to me, to the children.” Alma’s voice was on breaking point.
Y/N looked up, into those blue eyes. “I never meant to. I forgot to write-“ Alma cut her off with a snort.
“Of course you did.” Alma took the nightgown from Y/N and dropped her towel and put it on. Feeling Y/N’s eyes on her. It made her shiver. Then she felt arms wrapped around her waist and a soft kiss on her right shoulder. “I’ve missed you. Please don’t leave again.” She felt Y/N shake her head and turned around in her arms and kissed her lover on the lips softly. Nearly losing herself in her lover’s lips. Laughing softly after feeling Y/N’s hands tickle her sides.
“I hate you.”
“You love me birdy.”

Prompt - 'My grandma is in love with you and she lives far away, so why not pretend to be a couple for the few days we see her, it would make her so happy'
Note: I love Ysabeau and Marcus' relationship, so this would be really cute.

"Oh, Marcus I can't seem to hear you," Ysabeau complained. Marcus held back a laugh as his uncle Hugh fixed her iPad (taking her off mute and setting it up on its stand.)
"Oh," She clapped her hands happily when she could see and hear him. Technology wasn't her strong suit, but she liked getting to see Marcus and asking him to fly back and forth was unfair.
As they caught up, Phoebe arrived at his house as she always did on a Friday. She knew how close Marcus was with his grandmother, finding it really sweet. It was one of the things she loved about her friend.
"Hello," Phoebe smiled and waved.
"Is this Phoebe?" Ysabeau whispered excitedly. Phoebe raised her eyebrow at Marcus, who seemed to blush.
"Yes, I'm Phoebe." She smiled and the older woman smiled wider.
"Oh, Marcus has told me so much about you! You didn't how beautiful she was," Ysabeau complimented, "Not that it is your most important quality of course."
"Thank you." Phoebe laughed slightly.
"Marcus, ask her."
"I will. Love you. Bye," He ended the call abruptly.
"Ask me what?" Phoebe asked, following him to the kitchen. Marcus sighed as he started pulling out ingredients for dinner.
"She wants me to bring you to Sept-Tours. For the harvest festival in the village. Old family tradition." He explained.
"Well, why don't I go with you?" Phoebe offered.
"What?"
"I mean, I'm not doing anything and I would love to finally meet Ysabeau in person." She shrugged, "Plus, it gets your family off your back."
Marcus pressed a kiss to her forehead and hugged her, swinging her around making her laugh.
"Phoebe Taylor, you are an angel amongst women."
●○●○●○●○●○●
"Wow," Phoebe breathed out as they approached Sept-Tours.
"What?" Marcus asked, confused as he parked the car.
"I didn't think you owned a castle."
Phoebe instantly got nervous as they got out of the car. Marcus, sensing this, intertwined his fingers with hers.
"Come on." He encouraged.
"You own a castle." She repeated.
Marcus nudged her playfully, "Um, hello. St Paul's? Cambridge? Daddy in the diplomatic service?"
"Oh please, we're upper-middle class. You were raised in a castle." Phoebe retorted.
"When I wasn't at boarding school. Or getting kicked out of boarding school." Marcus replied.
A small, kind-looking woman came out of the house, checking on the people decorating the outside with holly and other festive plants.
Marcus gave her a hug and a kiss, "Phoebe, this is Marthe. She runs the place."
Then Ysabeau de Clermont appeared and Phoebe felt herself shrink. It was like meeting royalty and she certainly dressed like it, in a pantsuit and tweed jacket, a string of pearls around her neck.
"Marcus!" She smiled and Marcus hugged and kissed her as Phoebe smiled at the two of them.
"Let me look at you. Are you eating enough? You are always so busy, you can be worse than your father." She complained looking at him over and fixing his collar.
Marcus laughed, "I'm fine, grand-mere." He then indicated to Phoebe with a proud smile, "This is Phoebe Taylor."
Ysabeau then turned to Phoebe, "How lovely it is to finally meet you in person."
Phoebe replied instantly in French, "Thank you for having me. It's an honour." The older woman smiled, impressed.
"I think we will get along splendidly." She smiled and Phoebe felt herself relax slightly and Marcus smiled at her.

They both flopped down on the bed, that had been made up nicely. The two didn't mind sleeping in the same bed, having done so on multiple occasions.
"You have always had an obsession with the 80s." Phoebe pointed to the Queen poster. Marcus playfully nudged her.
"She's terrifying," Phoebe said after a while.
"Only at first. But she's warm and cuddly at the core. I don't think I would've straightened out if it wasn't for her."
"Well, you turned out pretty great," Phoebe replied.
Phoebe turned on her side, "Will the rest of them like me?" Marcus turned to her.
"Of course they will. I think everyone will be more surprised that I convinced you to be around me. You're all proper and lovely. We're the uncivilised ones.'
"That's where the plan falls apart. I'm out of your league." Phoebe teased and Marcus laughed.
●○●○●○●○●○●
"Marcus!"
Marcus hugged his grandfather who had been holed up in his office. Philippe looked him over.
"You look well, my boy."
"He brought his girlfriend," Ysabeau mentioned. Philippe turned to him with an interesting look.
"Speaking of which, I am going to get ready for dinner," He jogged away, not wanting to answer his grandfather's questions.
"Ysabeau, what are you doing?" Philippe asked. He knew his wife. Always scheming, particularly when it came to Marcus.
"I want a wedding, mon coeur." She replied and he laughed heartily, kissing his wife.
"You are dangerous."
●○●○●○●○●○●
"Alright, I'm ready" Phoebe had changed into a red satin dress and had tied her curls into an updo. She stepped out of the bathroom as Marcus' eyes widened as he took her in.
"Uh- hello. You look..." Marcus failed to find the words, "Beautiful. I mean you always look beautiful, but you look very beautiful."
"You don't look too bad yourself." Phoebe giggled, teasingly pulling at the lapel of his suit.
Marcus held out his hand and Phoebe clasped it tightly, "Ready for the cult meeting?"
The dinner was actually quite nice. Phoebe and Marcus were seated closer to Ysabeau at one end at the long table, across from them. Phoebe took a liking to Hugh and Fernando, who was seated nearby. The two were perhaps the nicest of the family.
But they spent the majority of dinner whispering to each other, Marcus telling her embarrassing stories. Phoebe tried not to shiver whenever he mindlessly traced his finger on the back of her neck or arm, lingering.
In the same way, he tried not to tense up when she rubbed his leg or leaned into him.
"Marcus, since you seem so insistent on whispering, do you want to update us on how you have been?" Philippe said, after having a conversation with one of his daughters. All eyes were on the two of them, and Phoebe understood why Marcus called it a cult meeting.
"Philippe," Ysabeau scolded but had a smile on her face.
"I've been well," Marcus replied.
"You brought a woman home. You never bring anyone home." Philippe commented. Phoebe looked at him in surprise.
"May I ask, are you mentally stable?" His elder uncle, Matthew asked and his wife Diana slapped him on his arm, "What? It's a fair question."
"Very much so," Phoebe replied, a polite smile on her face, "And well, dating a doctor, I can assure you he would notice. Perhaps that's why he doesn't come home that often. Lack of stability amongst certain relatives." She'd not liked Matthew on the few occasions she'd net him in Oxford.
The dinner table was silent, and Baldwin, another uncle leaned back and grinned, "I do like her." Godfrey snorted at his elder brother's looks.
"Well, I'm very proud of Phoebe. I always am. She's brilliant and I'm lucky to know her. I love her" One his aunt's "aww'd"
Ysabeau whispered a 'well done' and winked. Marcus squeezed her hand and all Phoebe could do was look at him in slight shock.
He loved her.
●○●○●○●○●○●
Phoebe sat in the courtyard garden, needing some air. Marcus had said that he loved her. In front of his family. And he seemed to have meant it.
"Phoebe, what are you doing out here?" Ysabeau asked her. Phoebe stood and dusted off her dress,
"Just some air. The wine got to my head." She lied.
"You know, I'm very happy Marcus has someone with who he shares his life." Ysabeau began.
"Madame-"
She held up her hand, "Ysabeau, please. I know the two of you aren't together." Phoebe's face fell.
"We meant no disrespect or to deceive you. Marcus, just wanted his family to stop asking questions and he knew that you liked me-" Phoebe rambled, but the older woman simply held up her hand again.
"I can tell that he loves you and you love him." Ysabeau smiled, "You wouldn't have stayed or even offered to come here if you didn't."
"Is it that obvious?"
"To me. But for Marcus, he doesn't think he's good enough for you."
"He's brilliant. He always has been." Phoebe protested "I'm not- I don't look like the women who marry into this family. It can be a bit alienating. I just want to be his friend if anything." Phoebe admitted.
"Marcus loves you. You are intelligent, accomplished, kind." Ysabeau, "We're old, yes. But we try not to be judgemental. Hugh and Fernando have been happily married for years."
"You didn't like Diana. Marcus told me."
"She's American. Fully. That's an objectionable trait in anyone." Ysabeau defended and Phoebe giggled. She placed her hands over the younger woman's and squeezed comfortingly.
"Take it from an old woman. The men in this family are dense. They always need somebody to point out the obvious. Tell him, so that you will both be happy." Ysabeau smiled.
●○●○●○●○●○●
"Hey, I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable at dinner-" Marcus began when Phoebe entered the bedroom.
Phoebe shut him up, by kissing him. Marcus slowly wrapped his arms around her waist, deepening the kiss.
"So you aren't angry with me?" Marcus asked after they pulled away from each other.
"I feel the same way. If you're serious, that is?" Phoebe said nervously.
"I have never been more serious. I'm in love with you and you are way too good for me," Phoebe shook her head.
"That isn't true. You're exactly what I want. Who I've always wanted."
They kissed again happily, interrupted by a knock on the door.
"Ooh, sorry." Ysabeau and Marthe poked their heads in. "We just wanted to see if you wanted some cocoa or coffee?"
Phoebe buried her head in Marcus' chest giggling as he groaned slightly.
"We're fine. Thank you grand-mere, thank you, Marthe."
"You're very welcome." Ysabeau smiled knowingly before the two left, their giggles were audible.
Phoebe and Marcus looked at each other before bursting into laughter.
"She is-" Phoebe began.
"Terrifying?" Marcus suggested.
"Lovely. But also strangely omniscient."
"Welcome to the family.
