HI TUMBLAR. I'm Dana. I draw animals and mythical creatures (mostly capricorns and dragons). I like to reflect on lesser-known or dark aspects of nature, feelings of distress and despair, or creating designs that just look cool for the sake of looking cool. I have a sort of positive nihilist outlook on life, in that I'm rather upset with the general state of things but I still feel compelled to find or create beauty and interest anyway, even if my darker feelings sometimes come out through my work.

"Abandon Ambition" is both grimly serious and darkly humorous. I was raised in both a household and country that emphasized setting lofty goals of acquiring high earnings and impressive assets, but the timing of my pursuit of these things has laughably aligned with global financial crises, global pandemics and lockdowns, and now global heatwaves and global conflicts. Abandon ambition, and instead embrace what you want to say and do and create and build now; Tomorrow is not yours, and your goals may not be waiting for you there.

Be responsible, and be kind. But hope and wait for nothing.

So uh, yeah, I draw a lot of stuff and explore a lot of things that I think I've been holding back on for years for one reason or another. I want to draw dark goats, glowing bats, tempest capricorns, skinny dragons, snarling wolves. So here they are.

A lot of my designs find themselves on fun and/or practical merch! I like to create things that are high quality and have a long shelf life: I don't want to make something thinking it'll go in a landfill in a year, I want you wearing and enjoying my work for a very long time.

Pretty! If keeping your skull cozy isn't your thing, I've printed my art on fabric, too. I like this idea because if you move house a lot and/or can't afford custom frames, art printed on fabric can be displayed anywhere, and folds up nicely when packing up for your next move, without any breaking glass or anything.

A big part of my thinking when I'm designing products is also what do I myself use in my day-to-day life, and lately I've been desperately trying to cut my phone addiction by going back to pen-and-paper planners and books and things instead of using screens. And to keep track of where I am in my planners and books, I've made bookmarks!

I had so much fun designing these. You have something enjoyable to look at on both sides of the page it's clipped on. How fun is that?

Okay lastly, I make a TON of stickers. A lot of my designs translate really well into small, self-contained things like stickers, and I only ever print vinyl stickers, so they live a long time on your laptop or phone case or wherever you wanna put them.

So I have a little under 80 days as of this writing to make about $8,000.00 - $10,000 USD

I have been struggling without work. Unpayed bills from the past few months have piled up. I've lost so much already, and I'm at risk of losing even more. On top of that, I need to move halfway across the country by the end of October, since the family I'm staying with is moving out of the country. I can't really follow them with my financial situation.

Hi lovelies. Well, EA have gone and done it. They’ve somehow made their TOU even more vague when it comes to Patreon, early access, and adult content, so congrats to them.

In case you’ve been left out of the loop, here’s Missme’s post about the change.

Now, EA have stated that all CC must be free in full and that mod developers can only recoup costs of time and effort via passive advertisements and donations.

No early access paywalls and especially no perma paywalls.

So, what does that mean? Well unless EA clarifies further regarding early access in the next couple of weeks (which they might do if they are bombarded with TOU breaking reports), it means that anything anyone makes for TS4 is free. Immediately. Forever. No paywalls, no early access. Creators can only monetarily gain via passive advertisements (which, let’s face it, are only a thing on TSR) and donations.

SOOOOO, where does that leave me? Well, I sure as hell don’t wanna be sued. The fact that EA have suddenly sprung this on us all makes me wonder if they are preparing to start a community-wide take down of anyone violating their TOU. For the perma-paywallers, this is well deserved. But for the early access peeps, this kinda sucks.

So, guys, that means that I’m going to have to shake things up over on Patreon. I hope EA will be nice enough to give everyone a month or so leeway so we can unlock and prep files for release without getting into hot water.

Here are the changes:

No early access. Everything I upload to Patreon will be available to download as soon as it’s uploaded.

All NSFW items still need to be locked on Patreon to abide by their TOU, but they will also be uploaded to LL immediately where they can be downloaded for free.

The first 1-3 Patreon tiers will remain, but they will be donation options spliced with extras (more consistent WIPS, etc)

The monthly Patreon theme will go, but I will be adding additional commission tier spots. More info on that to come.

We will see how this goes. For all I know, EA might come out next week saying early access is allowed again. Who knows? But for now, this is how it will be.

This time today’s streaming doodles are from my actual sketchbook ^_^ last night I figured out how to get streaming working with my mobile tablet so today, after getting errands out of the way, I set up this old tripod for a music sheet Grandma used to have, leaned it against the tablet, and set up a little makeshift "stand" for my sketchbook to see how physically streaming some doodling from that might go. I always imagined Locolichi civilization and infrastructure to look something like slave zero and Bogleech’s mortasheen. A world irreversibly polluted and covered in sprawling ungodly huge several mile high cities.

Melalo’s two heads are actually false heads, as his central brain and mouth is located between them, and the false heads have ganglia instead of actual brains. They are also boneless and move much like octopus arms and elephant trunks. They’re really closer to arms or eyestalks in function!

Tcaridyi doesn’t look too hairy but that’s because she’s covered in a layer of more normal sized hairs! Admittedly I should have illustrated it like that.

In the original legend Poreskoro is a self fertilizing hermaphrodite, and I kept the hermaphroditism in the god child version (minus the self fertilization), but I also took the opportunity to insert some more lgbtq rep. So I also made them an enby. So diversity win! The giant biological god of disease who has caused unfathomable suffering is non-binary. Poreskoro is also probably the least horrible person of the god children, as they don’t actually want to cause harm and were essentially roped into their circumstances after their creation.

This entire thing was actually inspired by @evolutionsvoid’s 2022 kaijune! I really liked it and thought “I wanna do a kaiju short story about disease generation monsters of Romani legend”, so I did.

Q&A

Anonymous asks: “How come the art for the Locolichi and Keshali is shaded, but you didn’t you shade the god children?”

I technically could have, but didn’t for 2 reasons. I was already putting a ton of effort into the illustrations with the line and color work and wanted to get one done at least once a week (before the huge break after part 6). The second is that guardians are luminescent, and I don’t know how to illustrate colored light reflecting off bodies or how that would impact normal shading.

Anonymous asks: “Why do all the god children have stuff in their eyes?”

They were meant to sort of be eye trails to convey movement like Nargacuga, and I made them slightly electric by making them wavy and have sparks to convey power. In hindsight I should have just stuck to a tapering line. Oh well.

Anonymous asks: “I was reading the guardian doc and I got to the one about strength so I’m wondering how powerful are the strongest guardians?”

Have you seen that clip of Omniman setting the Flaxans back to the Stone Age? Or One Punch Man?

Well I’m not one for subtlety in my writing. I live in America and critical thinking and media analysis are skills that are very hard to come by here, so unless you beat the audience over the head most Americans aren’t going to realize stuff. So that’s what I do. The audience WILL understand the message I’m conveying. They don’t have a choice.

What’s next?

I’m mostly going to be taking things slower now that I don’t have a self imposed deadline anymore. Just slowly chipping away at a to do list of mine, and once it’s done I can actually start writing a book. I’m still of course going to be providing art and occasional comments to Unnatural History Channel, and being a writing consultant for some of my friends like @dappercritter. I also might do a few commissions soon too.

As for what specifically I’m going to do next. I’m going to write a short story and post it to my patreon, revisit and redo character overviews for Gigabash, read a book I promised a follower I’d review, and then maybe make a Humans B Gone fanart.

For those wondering where I have been....

Videogames are one hell of a drug, kids.

Fr tho, I know the uploads here have slowed down considerably. I apologize for that, and I wanted to let you know there is a reason behind it. No, the reason is not that I am stopping to draw, or even stopping the IZ art.

Truth is, for the past couple of months I've been branching out a bit with my art, doing a lot of stuff that I feel like wouldn't be of particular interest to my current Tumblr/Twitter audience (is videogame fanart of non-humans, basically) and I'm not looking to pivot away from IZ art just yet so I rather leave this blog barren of art for most of the month rather than posting the new/different stuff and attracting a whole new audience. I am still posting it all on my Patreon and Discord tho, and also recently started posting it online on a new(ish) account. You can check it here if you think you'd still be interested, but these pics are not coming over to my main T/T accounts. Here is a preview of what's in there, just this once.

About my IZ stuff, it will still be coming, altho I do have to divide my attention between commissions/patreon like the usual (and a good bunch of the new commissions I'm getting recently are of the new type that I can't post here) so it takes a backseat most of the time, but I do make sure to leave those as a Patreon option to vote on every month so we can at least have one IZ thing assured to be coming.

The PT AU is still not something I'm willing to drop, but it is very much still stuck for me. I would need a lot more free time (and willpower not to fill that free time with fekin videogames again) that I currently have to properly sit down and work on the problem, so I'd have to plan on doing it in a month where I'm not constantly panicking about if I made enough money to get thru the next month or not - which is what happens most months. If you're all still okay with getting non-canon offshoots of pics and comics from the AU please let me know and I'd be more than happy to provide, but my brain just screams at me that nothing but Official Story Continuation will be worth it for any of y'all so I've been kinda feeling bad about drawing any of it at all, tbh.

Other than that I'm p much always on Discord, I frequent the Patreon one and the side one daily and the Weekly Streams on Picarto are always still a thing (Friday and Saturday at 9 pm Central, always at that time even if I often forget to announce them here), plus the other events like the extra Patreon stream and the movie nights/series nights on the fan site. My Twitter is also still there, and I wanna try uploading more stuff to Insta once I figure out how to get the darn desktop uploader to work as it should.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee myself opening the Commander-tier short story commissions anytime soon, and have actually removed that option for now. When I first started my Patreon, I still had time in my schedule for them, but with the amount of work I try to get done and how insane my schedule typically is nowadays, I have no time to work on the custom stories and end up having the Patrons wait for months, and it makes me feel more and more awful as more time passes! Until I can get the bulk of the game finished, the extra commissioned stories end up being an additional stressor, so sadly, I'll be removing that option for now. However, I have changed the tier rewards slightly so that people joining up from now on will get to select two of the remaining offered rewards instead!

learning to code mainly

So a few weeks back i got back in my choice of games kick and started slowly relearning how to code, yes i took computer science in school, shoot me. But ive started making actual progress today but yes so umhhhhh

i've been quietly planning out my own choice of script game, just because i love the fallen hero, wayhaven and the creme de la creme books from choice of script. the huge kick off was really when the third book came out, but i was writing the story pre amazing book drop

The omega hunt collab was so fun to organise, and it gave me courage to reach out to some of my favourite writers, several of which im sharing servers with and playing dnd week to week and on holidays with.

So i am... So damn sorry ive been doing all of this other shit. Im gonna try and find space, because THERE'S THINGS I WANNA FINISH.

currently just finishing the commissions I have in queue. Im lining that atm. Im currently finishing some concepts I have for this western PMD comic I've been working on for years. Goal is to finally push the prologue before summer ends!

book wise is more like checking out stuff for adult adhd. I just got diagnosed in July? having it was always in the back of my mind so I never researched it proper esp on things like keeping a schedule for like...every little thing, procrastination, life-habits, what works and what doesnt work for me, medication, etc. It's hard but Im trying my best to keep to it!

and all that aside im working on that poke rpc thing

and besides all that, the casual stuff, I've been focusing on my blog plots and progressing those huhuu. oh! and im starting to research how to stream stuff, set up obs, and all that cool stuff. I wanna start a tube channel or podcast about coffee in fandom ( like think about what kinda coffee would be brewed in the Pokemon world, or in the mushroom kingdom, etc) and recipes mayhaps! I love coffee, I loved being a barista, I love the process....but I hate customer service with a passion so I'd love a new outlet for that!

all in all trying to survive my shift rn. two hours to go. am suffering. it keeps me motivated that Ill finally be a successful content creator and quit. ONE DAY.....ITS GONNA HAPPEN. ✨

How do I know who to trust for commissions? Is there something you usually do to confirm they are who they say?

I’ve actually never done commissions before, way too scary for the likes of me😂

But I’ve seen a lot of people using kofi/buymeacoffee, PayPal or cashapp for them!

I think a lot of the time people ask for at least half the money upfront and only give the finished piece on receipt of full payment, others ask for all the money upfront. I think in terms of trusting people just make sure that you’ve made it clear in your post what is on offer and what they want? I’ve also seen people asking for ID to verify they’re 18+ when doing NSFW pieces, although cause I’ve never done it I dunno what that entails!

Personal sorry

Just dropped my fucking phone on concrete and the screen smashed. It gives me sensory problems and I use my phone constantly so I'm going to need to replace it ASAP, which is yet another bill I'm going to need to pay on top of the million other things I've had to pay so far at the end of this year. I was at a good balance with my bank account but now I'm bleeding money. I'm not even paying rent right now and yet there's so much shit piling up all at once that I'm worried about having to dip into my savings.

I can't do more shifts at work because of school, so I'm just trying to get this fucking demo out as soon as possible so I can start getting something out of all this damn work I've been doing, whether that be patreon or commissions or whatever I don't know. Maybe I can make a little emergency commissions post and I could get some art work done? Idk. I'm kinda freaking out right now. I wanna see the number in the app go UP not DOWN.
