Description: 

Here's a problem with a Google OAuth consent screen that leads to a crash. There's an app called Nihao Jewelry (NihaoJewelry) that comes up frequently in the app store. It looks to be a Blue Nile competitor. 

Like many apps, this app has an option to create an account using your Google credentials on a Google OAuth consent screen. 

That screen looks like this on web:

Instead of leading to a valid privacy policy, the app is linking to something that was hosted at: http://www.mm.com/index.php/customer/account/login/

I'm not really sure what mm.com used to be, but it did sell for quite a lot some years ago. 

Long story short: the link is dead. This dead link crashes the Nihao Jewelry iOS app.

If you select the "privacy policy" link from within the iOS app, the app crashes. It shouldn't be doing this, of course.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download and launch the Nihao Jewelry - Wholesale Online app for iOS (version 2.19.1)

2. Select the Profile option in the lower right hand corner of the screen 

3. Select the "Continue with Google" option 

4. From the ""Nihaojewelry" Wants to Use" option, select "Continue"

5. From the Sign in page, select "privacy policy"

Result: Selecting the "privacy policy" link on the NihaoJewelry - Wholesale Online app's Google OAuth consent screen crashes the app 

Expected: The "privacy policy" link on the NihaoJewelry - Wholesale Online app's Google OAuth consent screen should work - selecting it should take the user to a valid privacy policy - it should not crash the app Please take a look at the attached screenshots:

Select the "Continue with Google" option...

So apparently, you can get a refund on app subscriptions on iOS?

It’s unintuitive, but the way you do it is to go to your purchase history, choose the app you accidentally subscribed to, and click “report a problem”. And that’s the tricky part, because if I hadn’t been so upset about a $43 charge on an app I haven’t opened since install, I wouldn’t have tried “report a problem” because it’s not an error? At least not a computer error.

That button then takes you to apple’s website where you can choose an “allowed” reason for wanting your refund, and then it takes 24-48 hours to process.

Polari!!!!!! I ran into the topic while researching hidden late-victorian gay society, although its popularity in the form we know today resided in the first half/mid part of the 20th century (if i remember correctly, Parlari was the dialect we have reputable traces of dating back to the 1700s, while Polari specifically only has written records from the 1890s onward. But of course, being a spoken dialect, the distinction is bound to be blurry and overlapping). it's an absolutely fascinating piece of linguistic and queer history. I also really urge anyone reading to look into cockney rhyming slang. A substantial influence for Polari AND an incredible linguistic phenomenon of its own right.

We identified an issue preventing password reset emails from being delivered to Yahoo, Hotmail/Outlook, and AOL/AIM email addresses. If you’re still not receiving password reset emails, please check your spam folder, and contact support if it’s not there either.

Yoongi has always loved the sea. 

Something about the thin line that separates but also unites the vastness of the ocean with the emptiness of the sky has always enchanted Yoongi beyond words. 

Back when he was a kid, he would visit the ocean at least once every six months - mostly with his attendants, the royal employees and his bodyguards. But as his age increased, his visits started decreasing severely. The more his face started being printed on newspapers and daily magazines, the more he said goodbye to freedom - free will. 

But today he feels free. Today he is here alone. 

The sand under his sole gives him an ecstatic feeling of nostalgia. But the weight that’s lodged inside his heart, the wound that he is yet to put a band-aid on - makes him feel like he is sinking in the sand bit by bit, little by little. 

So, he takes a step towards the ocean, shakes off the grains of sand that have attached themselves on his tailor-made, million won worth funeral attire. Yoongi keeps on walking until the dry sand beneath his feet is replaced by the wet kind. A small wave crashes on his shins and encourages him to walk further. 

So he walks. The ocean calls him and he obliges to its wishes. 

When he was seven, he almost got swept off by a huge tide. If it wasn’t for his bulky bodyguards he would have become Late Min Yoongi by now. 

The memory makes him smile. As he recalls how frightened he had been back then, he smiles even more. 

Today, though, he is fearless. He is as numb as a frost-bitten finger. He just lost his only guardian, the only human being to have a direct connection of blood with him. 

He lost a friend, his only confidant - he lost his uncle - the king of The Monarchy of Korea. 

He lost a lot. Maybe much more than when he lost his parents in that brutal turn of events. 

And somehow, he feels weaker this time. Even though he is a grown up adult, a twenty-one year old young life - he feels extremely tired. 

He feels tired after the long stretches of royal mourning. 

He feels tired of all the responsibilities that are going to fall on his shoulders very soon. 

He feels tired of the prospect of the title - Min Yoongi, the King. 

“What the fuck do you think you are doing?” a rowdy, feminine skrill pierces through the light ocean breeze. The scream snaps him out of his trance and only then he realizes that the water is now at his chest. 

His expensive suit is now all ruined with the salt-water and he doesn’t give two flying fucks about that. 

He takes another step into the ocean. Under him the sand has now thinned. He can tell that he is about to drown very soon. 

Another step. Even though his ear transfers some of the surrounding noise to his brain, which vaguely sounds like screams of horror, his brain hardly registers anything. 

Another step. “A little more yoongi, and then you will be free.” he talks himself through and through. Mostly because the person, who has been screaming, is much closer now. 

Another step. Something grips a handful of his hair in a tight pull. 

“Aarrggghhhh” Yoongi groans in pain. He tries to take off the grip and realizes that it's the hand of a woman, most probably.

The other figure pulls him towards the opposite direction while mumbling something like, “what did I do to deserve this!” and “My day was already ruined enough now you had to decide to commit suicide right before my eyes” and “stop fighting! For fuck’s sake go and die somewhere else!” 

It takes the woman a full two minutes and half to take him to the shore. And once both of them were on their feet, he pushes his savior away (she falls on her butt and again that’s none of Yoongi’s business) and focuses on nursing the pain that’s currently splitting his scalp in half. 

“Hey you! I just saved you and this is what I get in return!” he can hear shock and disappointment in the voice but he has his own demons to tame. 

If he could he would have buried his head in the sand now but that’s for another day. 

“Did I ask you to save me?” He finally stands straight, opens his eyes and faces the woman behind destroying his escape. 

The woman, you, are rather small but you certainly exhibit extreme power despite your small frame. 

You have a small face - a beautiful one, big eyes, full lips - if Yoongi wasn’t mourning his greatest loss today, he would have fallen for you right here and now. 

You grasp upon having a clear look at his face. Rubbing your eyes once you straighten your posture and face him with a jaw hanging ajar. 

“Y-your hi-highness.” you grasp. Yoongi realizes the ocean water hasn’t wiped out his identity just the way he would have liked. 

“I am sorry… to intrude on whatever business you had in the ocean. Please, spare me from execution.” your voice trembles as you bow deeply. 

Yoongi laughs. For the first time in a week (or maybe months) he laughs genuinely, from the core of his heart. 

“You were right. I was trying to die. And don’t worry. I won’t have you executed for saving my life.” Somehow his words are less heavy now. He feels light. Maybe it’s the ocean or maybe it’s the presence of a stranger - you. 

But he regrets it. As soon as his words are out of his mouth - a confirmation that can make national news, can put his eligibility for the crown under scrutiny - he regrets. 

He expects you to appear shocked, grasp, fall on his knees and tell him not to die like an average person but do none of it. 

You laugh, as breezy as the ocean air. Yoongi stares shamelessly. 

“All of us want to die at a point in life. It’s alright. But you know what - you are too young. If wikipedia is right then you are twenty-one now. Try again in five or so years. Maybe it will be worth dying then?” Your speech fills the gap of Yoongi’s wit that he didn’t know he had. 

“I guess.” he murmurs, as he keeps staring at you. 

“Seems like you are alone. Have you eloped?” you question further. Yoongi can tell you are aware of the news of King’s death. It’s been announced as a seven day long national mourning day, so yeah, of course. 

But he notices how you don’t hint a word towards the obvious. He likes it. 

“Kind of. You don’t look like you are from here." He takes you in, wearing jeans and a hoodie, which are all wet because of him. 

“Yeah. I am from the city.” you vaguely gesture towards a car that’s parked not too far away from the shore.

“Could you then give me a ride back?” Yoongi takes the chance. 

Now the crown prince riding in the same car with a civilian, who is also a woman, is surely clandestine. 

But as of now, Yoongi doesn’t give a damn. 

He probably won’t see you ever again and he will take the pleasure of your company while it lasts.

Apps we use as a system !

Simply plural!

Simply plural is a great app for Systems! it allows you to track who's fronting, add more in depth information about who's fronting, Sort headmates out into groups, it also has a chat function.

Negatives: whilst it is a great app! it is more ideal for Smaller to medium sized Systems or Systems that switch solidly or for longer periods of time, as a bigger system outself, we find it quite difficult to use Sometimes, as it can be difficult for us regrading having to get up and log things.

they are also supportive of endogenic "Systems" and their resources do contain misinformation.

Octocon!

octocon is very similar to simply plural!

you can add headmates, categorise them, it also has a bit directly in discord, so it could be easier for some systems to use! It also has a diary feature! we have less to say about this as we personally don't use it, but it could be helpful for other systems!, it is currently only on andriod but will be releasing on IOS late 2024/2025

we feel that the app is quite clunky and can be difficult to use, especially if your already using apps like simply plural.

they also have a limit on how many alters profiles you can create to "limit the amount of fakers" - to specify direct quote from the official octocon server linked on there website, “the alter limit is to basically protect against ddos attacks, without the limit someone could take up an unreasonable amount of the bots resources and crash it. theres no way to go past it, and nobody so far has gotten close to going past the alter limit as far as we know.” I heard the term fakers being thrown around, I also assume that by “fakers” they mean endo “systems” but still the tone is there and it rubs me the wrong way considering systems that have high high alter counts (such as ourselfs) :)

Notion!

Notion is a great app! we personally dont use it to track our system but we know many Systems that do! it can easily be used for tracking fronts, alters, giving alters journal pages etc! it's very easy to use for beginners and there are many tutorials on YouTube about it! It is also used by a alot of singlets too!

our only criticism is that it isn't built for Systems! So you would need to build it all yourself or use templates if that makes sense which we know for Some Systems could be a struggle!

Mindly

Mindly is a very easy to use app, which is commonly used for making innerworld maps! It's very simply to visualise and understand!

Our negatives for mindly are that there is a limit on how many maps you can make, if you are like us for example and have different layers in your system you wouldn't be able to make multiple maps for those layers, also it is very limited on how you can customise your bubbles, with only the colour, text and emoji

Fortelling

Fortelling is a great app! you can use it to create innerworld maps every easily! being able to include images and in-depth describes also!, we also use it to create split/fussion maps, and you can also use it similarly to Simply plural as you can add in depth information and also custom fields!

Anytype

Anytype is a good app for creating private journal pages for headmates!

It's a great way to allow alters there own private space to express themselves

Our negatives is that it can be quite confusing when you first start using the app, and it could get confusing if you are a bigger System

Twinote

we love twinote! it's such a fun way to communicate with your headmates! the app is very similar to twitter but it's completely private! alters can completely create there own profiles and communicate with each other very easily!, we also know singlets that use it for role playing also! :)

Daylio

We use daylio well daily! it's a great way to track things like switches or Symptoms eta very simply! we also use it for non system related things just like sleep, school, our mood etc!! It's been so helpful for us and our doctors!

I post pubblicati nelle prime 24 ore del 2025 non venivano indicizzati nei risultati di ricerca, ma abbiamo risolto il problema.

Quando segnali un post, un blog o una Community nelle app mobili, ora c'è un pulsante "Fatto" dopo aver inviato la segnalazione, per assicurarti di poter tornare al punto in cui eri.

Abbiamo corretto un paio di bug che causavano conteggi errati delle attività non lette a causa dell'accettazione o del rifiuto della tua richiesta di unirti a una Community.

Se hai abilitato Fast Queue (Coda rapida) in Labs, abbiamo corretto un bug che causava il pulsante della coda veloce sul web ad avere il colore sbagliato sui post con Blaze.

Il filtraggio per tag ora funziona correttamente sui post ripubblicati nelle Community.

Abbiamo risolto i crash casuali nell'app iOS qualche tempo fa. Non è necessario aggiornare l'app per ricevere questa correzione, ma ti consigliamo comunque di mantenere sempre l'app aggiornata!

crowdstrike: hot take 1

It's too early in the news cycle to say anything truly smart, but to sum things up, what I know so far:

there was no "hack" or cyberattack or data breach*

a private IT security company called CrowdStrike released a faulty update which practically disabled all its desktop (?) Windows workstations (laptops too, but maybe not servers? not sure)

the cause has been found and a fix is on the way

as it stands now, the fix will have to be manually applied (in person) to each affected workstation (this could mean in practice maybe 5, maybe 30 minutes of work for each affected computer - the number is also unknown, but it very well could be tens (or hundreds) of thousands of computers across thousands of large, multinational enterprises.

(The fix can be applied manually if you have a-bit-more-than-basic knowledge of computers)

Things that are currently safe to assume:

this wasn't a fault of any single individual, but of a process (workflow on the side of CrowdStrike) that didn't detect the fault ahead of time

[most likely] it's not that someone was incompetent or stupid - but we don't have the root cause analysis available yet

deploying bugfixes on Fridays is a bad idea

*The obligatory warning part:

Just because this wasn't a cyberattack, doesn't mean there won't be related security breaches of all kinds in all industries. The chaos, panic, uncertainty, and very soon also exhaustion of people dealing with the fallout of the issue will create a perfect storm for actually malicious actors that will try to exploit any possible vulnerability in companies' vulnerable state.

The analysis / speculation part:

OK, more seriously: I have not even heard about CrowdStrike until today, and I'm not a security engineer. I'm a developer with mild to moderate (outsider) understanding of vulnerabilities.

OK some background / basics first

It's very common for companies of any size to have more to protect their digital assets than just an antivirus and a firewall. Large companies (Delta Airlines) can afford to pay other large companies to provide security solutions for them (CrowdStrike). These days, to avoid bad software of any kind - malware - you need a complex suite of software that protects you from all sides:

desktop/laptop: antivirus, firewall, secure DNS, avoiding insecure WiFi, browser exploits, system patches, email scanner, phishing on web, phishing via email, physical access, USB thumb drive, motherboard/BIOS/UEFI vulnerabilities or built-in exploits made by the manufacturers of the Chinese government,

person/phone: phishing via SMS, phishing via calls, iOS/Android OS vulnerabilities, mobile app vulnerabilities, mobile apps that masquerade as useful while harvesting your data, vulnerabilities in things like WhatsApp where a glitched JPG pictures sent to you can expose your data, ...

servers: mostly same as above except they servers have to often deal with millions of requests per day, most of them valid, and at least some of the servers need to be connected to the internet 24/7

CDN and cloud services: fundamentally, an average big company today relies on dozens or hundreds of other big internet companies (AWS / Azure / GCP / Apple / Google) which in turn rely on hundreds of other companies to outsource a lot of tasks (like harvesting your data and sending you marketing emails)

infrastructure - routers... modems... your Alexa is spying on you... i'm tired... etc.

Anyway if you drifted to sleep in the previous paragraph I don't blame you. I'm genuinely just scratching the surface. Cybersecurity is insanely important today, and it's insanely complex too.

The reason why the incident blue-screened the machines is that to avoid malware, a lot of the anti-malware has to run in a more "privileged" mode, meaning they exist very close to the "heart" of Windows (or any other OS - the heart is called kernel). However, on this level, a bug can crash the system a lot more easily. And it did.

I didn't expect to get hit by y2k bug in the middle of 2024, but here we are.

As bad as it was, this only affected a small portion of all computers - in the ballpark of ~0.001% or even 0.0001% - but already caused disruptions to flights and hospitals in a big chunk of the world.

maybe-FAQ:

"Oh but this would be avoided if they weren't using the Crowdwhatever software" - true. However, this kind of mistake is not exclusive to them.

"Haha windows sucks, Linux 4eva" - I mean. Yeah? But no. Conceptually there is nothing that would prevent this from happening on Linux, if only there was anyone actually using it (on desktop).

"But really, Windows should have a better protection" - yes? no? This is a very difficult, technical question, because for kernel drivers the whole point is that 1. you trust them, and 2. they need the super-powerful-unrestrained access to work as intended, and 3. you _need_ them to be blazing fast, so babysitting them from the Windows perspective is counterproductive. It's a technical issue with no easy answers on this level.

"But there was some issue with Microsoft stuff too." - yes, but it's unknown if they are related, and at this point I have not seen any solid info about it.

The point is, in a deeply interconnected world, it's sort of a miracle that this isn't happening more often, and on a wider scale. Both bugfixes and new bugs are deployed every minute to some software somewhere in the world, because we're all in a rush to make money and pay rent and meet deadlines.

Increased monoculture in IT is bad for everyone. Whichever OS, whichever brand, whichever security solution provider - the more popular they are, the better visible their mistakes will be.

As much as it would be fun to make jokes like "CrowdStroke", I'm not even particularly mad at the company (at this point - that might change when I hear about their QA process). And no, I'm not even mad at Windows, as explained in the pseudo-FAQ.

The ultimate hot take? If at all possible, don't rely on anything related to computers. Technical problems are caused by technical solutions.

Happy new year! Today we’re excited to launch Instapaper Android 6.1, which includes View Notes to make it easy to view an article’s notes in one place, multiselect tagging for better bulk organizing of your articles with tags, and a few more features and improvements.

View Notes

Easily view your highlights and notes on an article by tapping the Notes button in the article list, or by opening an article, tapping the more button, and tap “View Notes”.

From there, you can easily export your notes on an article in plain text, markdown, or HTML. Additionally, you can easily navigate to each note within the article.

Multiselect Tagging

We added multiselect tagging in Instapaper Android 6.1 to make it much easier to organize your articles with tags in bulk. You can start multiselect by long pressing an article, select the articles you want to add tags to, and then tap the tag icon.

Other Features & Improvements

In addition to the above, Instapaper Android 6.1 has a handful of additional features and improvements:

Added OpenDyslexic font for readers with dyslexia.

Improved experience for e-ink readers by disabling more animations.

Fixed bug where screen would not lock with reader open.

Fixed issue where video thumbnails would show up duplicated.

Other minor crash fixes and improvements.
