I’m a sucker for Steve learning about the party’s interests, do you have any thoughts about the kinds of things he’d do for each party member? (E.g. he has the ability to recognize tony hawk, despite his inconspicuousness, because of max’s skateboarding)

Actually now I'm obsessed with the idea that Steve is one of the few people who are not personal friends with him who is able to identify Tony Hawk without a skateboard. Like. Steve is an athlete and respects athleticism, and gives credit where it is due. (He does NOT allow making fun of Olympic athletes, even the weird sports, just because some people don't appreciate how hard you work for it.) So he's like "wow that Tony guy sure is talented. He is so high in the air. Good for him." And never forgets his face. At some point someone shares one of those "didn't recognize actual skate legend Tony Hawk " stories except it ends with "and then the guy in pastels standing beside Eddie Munson slapped his (Eddie's) chest and went "hey!! That's Tony Hawk!! Let's see if we can get an autograph for Max!" And I realized I had been making awkward small talk about cocktail weenies with sports legend Tony Hawk while working up the courage to ask Eddie Munson for an autograph."

He also tries to learn how to Ollie but he's actually really nervous and wears all the protective gear possible and is only able to go forward. (This is from my personal experience being post concussive and not a good skater. It's scary! My brain meat is delicate!) But Max tells him it's okay and talks about the skatepark in California and some of her old friends from there, and he tries to teach her how to make fried rice.(one of the only actual meals that isn't breakfast food he can cook really well completely from scratch) She gets him to do her hair with El because Steve is the only other person who understands that for El hair is a means of control, and that taking care of it is something important to that feeling.

He and El do jigsaw puzzles together and listen to folk music I think. El would appreciate having the option to talk or not, and likes listening to Steve talk too. Also I like jock El so he gets her overly invested in the Cubs like tells her all the lore and she's obsessed with the goat and she joins a softball team. When she first yells at an umpire for a bad call Steve almost cries of pride. Like. Finally. He's not the only one who Gets It.

Lucas and him bond over basketball yes. But Lucas doesn't yell at refs, and Steve gets why but thinks it's very fun when people yell at officials. Also I think they watch clouds together after practicing. Just nice peaceful, laying on warm blacktop and staring at the sky. Maybe El joins them and Lucas and El can bond this way too. Steve and his little jock siblings. (Why does no one consider max a jock for skateboarding? I guess it wasn't really seen as a sport for a long time...hm..)

Steve also bought a flat of new coke before they stopped selling it and keeps it for Lucas on movie nights or whatever and everybody always yells and groans because where is getting that!! It was discontinued!! Also they watch anime together. Erica and Robin join.

I can see him getting into some video games with Dustin and Mike and Lucas. Only the two or more player ones though he doesn't like playing alone. Like. Okay this whole post has anachronisms but please imagine him playing Lego Star Wars (complete saga) with Dustin. The chaos. The yelling.

He's absolutely a pinball guy. They go to the arcade and everyone does their thing but then end up cheering Steve on as he goes for idk star trek pinball glory. Without even tilting it! Idk what to tell you but Steve def loves pinball.

Also before his dad cut him off or after he gets some kind of inheritance he does a very financially secure impulse buy: he purchases an arcade game. Full size. I am partial to Asteroids because that's what my dad impulse bought in the 80's and had it in our basement growing up but let's keep this going he has a themed pinball machine. Icon.

He 100% reaches Dustin to drive. Mrs. Henderson asked him because Steve just looked sad when she mentioned teaching him and she was like well...we could BOTH teach him :) (because she has mentally adopted him. She told him to call her Ma and he does and Robin is like Steve. That's your mum now. And Steve's like no... Everybody calls her that. And she saysnSteve. Only Dustin. Her actual literal son. Calls her that. Guess what that makes YOU.)

I wish tamagotchis were out in the 80's because Steve would be so diligent a Tama babysitter Erica would sell his services to her friends if they needed it lmao. He'd get all squinty and concentrated you know he'd highscore jump rope but not get the shapes game (me too buddy). Alas. Not to be.

Mike is harder...maybe they bond over making snarky comments about people in movies, and then talk about how actually is car racing a sport? And it'd be sort of awkward because Mike has Nancy as an older sibling (even if they don't get along) and he's holding on to animosity that's pointless now. Plus Dustin and Lucas both seem to see Steve as a big brother and friend figure, but like. It's a bit weird for Mike. But still, Mike knows if he bikes to Steve's at two am he'll be hauled in and forced to sit down and asked if he wants a hug and hot chocolate.

Same with will, except Will has Jonathan (El does to but it's different) so at first they're sorta🧍🧍 staring at each other. Steve has to be like sooooo wanna. Tell me about Wizards? Or something? Cool...rocks? And Will would realize that this guy's just, y'know. A guy. Probably similar to Mike except he's not begrudging about it.

I guess a lot of Steve and the party is him listening to them and letting them actually be silly and kids, making snarky comments about the highschool dramas happening, and encouraging them to try different things (he did!) And figure out what they like outside of what they think the rest of the party likes.

This was a hard one for me because I have an inkling that the boy I’m picking for you, you haven’t listened to. Ollie isn’t the most narratively interesting playlist on the channel, but I do think he’d be the most perfect for you.

I've been in a rut as of late, and I really want to get better at form and anatomy. Your style is one of my favorite ones ever, what would you say were your biggest inspirations throughout the years?

hey, first of all i’m so very sorry for the late reply. hope you get to see this still since it’s been a while since you sent this ask... sorry

secondly, thanks a lot! i try to give some insights here, this question's always kinda hard for me to tackle because i'm having a hard time identifying my style and what makes it tick, idk... i guess it's a combination out of everything i like, starting from the artstyle of tf2 to various styles of my mutuals and people around here (but i think tf2, wanting to draw humans ever since i first laid eyes on tf2 and the cartoony artstyle of it all are my major fuels, ngl). 

as for anatomy and form: this is a matter i just recently pushed myself into because i felt really stuck in my ways. like... i never really did studies in my life, so when i wanted to draw i kind of had to count on it to ‘just work’, idk if this makes sense... i always felt like i didn’t actually know what i was doing there, and i worked with ref a lot (i would always recommend using ref, no matter what, what i want to say is that i realized i had not enough fundament to truly fool around in the way i liked to). and now that i started actually doing anatomy studies i feel so dumb because yeah. it IS making things easier x) i understand tho that for most it’s a motivational issue... you have to find a way to make it work for you. like doing studies, but implementing what you learned into a sketch of your blorbo, as an example.

as for resources, it’s hard to find good tutorials, mostly because the place is flooded with art bros trying to tell you “you don’t NEED anatomy and here is why” and then they make a sketch and you can SEE that they put SO MUCH ANATOMICAL KNOWLEDGE INTO IT. so there’s a lot of bs out there. there is good stuff out there tho, but it might take you a while to find what’s best suited for you. i could make a list of yt channels that really helped me but the thing is, everyone is at their own lvl and with different goals in mind, so i don’t think this would be very helpful.

what i can link you to tho are 2 videos that really opened my eyes in regards of a) finding your style and b) getting better at drawing a certain topic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLfH9yOGs3o - this video tackles the whole ‘finding your style’ topic. because i often give the tip that you don’t find your style, style finds you (and i still think that is in its regards correct, because you just get subconsciously influenced by the media you consume and like and your fave artists’ style’s if you really dig them) but the ability to actively WORK on your style is there. it’s just something you have to put a lot of work into. but we’ll never stop learning, so there’s that. (she describes it with her landscape drawings but really this works for anything... from dynamic linework to just trying to find the right energy in your pictures)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0ufz75UvHs - this one really helped me getting over my fear of ‘drawing something ugly’ (big words from someone drawing ugly men as a hobby) but hear me out... because i have a weird brain that makes me recoil from something my mind thinks is ‘imperfect’ i really often get stuck with my art and either don’t experiment at all or get stuck with a sketch and spending hours on it trying to fix it... so approaching this matter like the video described just... melted that away. because when you draw 20 faces a day just telling yourself “NOBODY will EVER see this” you start loosening up... or at least i did. it’s also good for an analytical brain or people who strongly lean into that. this approach was especially nice while being stuck in an artblock... because i could easily just fool around and it kind of changed how i see doing art... like... nothing is ever perfect so i don’t have to make it perfect, i can analyze my art through a more neutral lense than my emotional attachment to it now... does that make sense?

last but not least, there are a ton of good resources out there for anatomical studies, my fave is still “anatomy for sculptors, understanding the human figure” by uldis zarins sandis kondrats.

Day 1: Heterochromia I’ve come to the revaluation that my sona is already cringe as hell considering not only can his entire body change color but he also has differently colored eyes as a staple of his design. They’re usually yellow and blue but this time I color picked the blue from the trans flag and the mint from the Vincian flag for this color palette, it turned out really pretty :)

Day 2: Self Insert Now she isn’t my self insert anymore, but back in the day when I was at “peak cringe” she definitely was. for number 3 i definitely have two things. i think saki shouldve been able to be angrier about honami and shiho not visiting her in hospital. i think she forgave them far too quickly and i think it wouldve been a fun little thing if once leo/need got together/after the main story there’s an event where one of the vsinger are like “there’s still some true feelings left to be discovered” and it’s saki. saki is still upset about the hospital and not being visited by honami and shiho and despite letting them into the band she wants them to know how much it hurt her. i think that could’ve lead to some fun conflict.

ALSO the over rad squad cards. listen. i haven’t read the events because they’re on jp and i’m on EN but the set. LOOKS pretty but i feel like they had a chance to go for a more sentimental tone/theme considering they’re surpassing the event that was nagi’s swan song instead of. riches or something. they know what they’re surpassing and it’s like. grhgejbshjbshj y’know? there were opportunities…

i also really like hollow knight! i haven’t played it in a while but i was at 111% completion on one of my playthroughs (CURSE YOU PANTHEON 4). i’m also super fucking excited for silksong obviously and i will say this now: WHEN SILKSONG FINALLY RELEASES… i will probably go on hiatus here LMAO. sorry but guys. oh my goodness I LOVE THIS QUESTION EEK the google comment made me laugh, i promise i do not mind in the slightest, you are giving me an EXCUSE to YAP about my favorite boys!! anywayz this might be a lil long so here’s a guide to get to know bnd and how i learned their personalities! i hope this helps you get to know them a bit more <33

first off you can’t go wrong with watching funnextdoor!! it’s the first video of theirs that i watched and it gives a lot of insight into them in their natural habitat (their dorms) as well as gives a glimpse into their bonds with each other! it’s so cute because the 2nd ep especially is where they all go on various adventures (some by themselves + some with other members!) and then they go on this lil retreat ugh it’s so sweet! this show really gives you a good idea of each member’s personality <3

next is to watch “what? door!” that’s like their version of txt’s to do if you’re familiar with that?? my favorite episodes are 3-4, which is where they work in pairs and go on missions to collect hearts and they are SO funny! i almost lost my mind seeing leehan run full force after myungjae stole his hearts i had no idea he could even run that fast i’m giggling writing this rn-

also love eps 5-6 of what? door! that’s where they go and work at an amusement park and they work in pairs at different jobs! it’s actually so sweet because you are able to see them interact with kids! afterwards once their shifts are over they’re able to enjoy the park so you get to see them have a lot of fun (except my lil scaredy cat taesan LMAO) these eps are just my fav because they’re so cute and i love seeing them have fun and enjoying themselves ugh i literally love them so much

another thing i did but more so to help with understanding their personalities for my writing is looking into each member’s mbti! it helped me get a good grasp of their general personalities bc ofc they aren’t limited to their 4 letters as they’re all unique and different <3

here’s a few random/defining characteristics (at least imo) for the members:

sungho: the mom of the group, loves soccer/sports/working out, giggles a LOT, neat, radiates the kinda energy of a person who is good at everything, more logical and levelheaded, he’s the main vocal and myungjae nicknamed him yeppi <3

riwoo: he’s our main dancer, loves food/desserts (so much so to the point where he said if he could have a superpower he’d want to be able to time travel so he could eat till he was full then go back in time to before he ate so he could eat again), he’s quiet, so incredibly endearing, dad joke enthusiast, short king

myungjae: puppy, loud, hypeman, apart of the riwoo love club (me too jae… me too… tbh he’s probably our president), the leader! big brain bc iirc he writes their songs! he’s so lovable and extroverted, he’s sensitive and cries a lot but that makes him even more lovable imo

taesan: giant mountain, cat, tall boy, apart of the producing club with jae, he’s an allrounder, king of teasing his members fr, he looks scary but is actually shy, doesn’t like being called cute (but is very much the cutest), riwoo lover #2

leehan: fish enthusiast, the best listener in the group, gets shy if you call him handsome, riwoo lover #3, the oddball of the group but not like ehehe he’s so quirky no he’s actually straight up weird like a literal enigma and once ate fish food (i’m madly in love w him)

Brain came up with ABO social commentary BNHA fic. Not shipping or mindless smut but a play on how society is even more messed up due to ABO being a part of society. (I was coming out of sleep and I’m not even in the fandom only read a few rottmnt crossover fics and watch analysis videos)

Deku is having an inner monologue about what’s happen so far (I don’t remember much) and how ABO isn’t a great thing and how hero - not even just hero society- but humanity is set back completely by it.

There is a visual for the audience with deku and kaa-Chan (?? Angry explosion guy??) in beds as a side by side. Deku starts out with out friends and gains them once he was declared Alph and he’s swarmed with people while Kaa -Chan starts out with a few but doesn’t have any until the last panel is a single child being petted on the head by kaa-Chan (likely a younger sibling).

Also to note is All Might was sent to jail or was seen captured and probably killed??? It looked like he was in some kind of suit with the helmet off as he smiled and made a speech (it’s a flashback as Deku is thinking).

Things don’t go 100% beat by beat in canon and are drastically changed. For one Deku is a full hero with a license and is working solo while everyone is in agencies that’s either first responders type or teams.

Hmmm the tags in my head showed no ship tags and this is a purely a story fic of a serious au. No missed characterization or bashing, just people acting like people in a messed up under the surface world of over powered individuals.

Deku… wants to get rid of the ABO gene. It’s hurt so many people in his life. Kaa-Chan was so angry and lonely that he just wanted an outlet. He had a good quirk but no one wanted to take him seriously anymore.

Because Deku had gained so many friends despite being Quirkless yet an Alph that none of them were genuine until JHA and he had All Might’s One for All.

…… note there was some bull of Kaa-Chan not participating in the past hero v villain arc because he wanted a pup with his “girlfriend” but that was a fxcking lie. He is on the villain side and didn’t want anyone to see him kill Sero (who got married and had a pup) to get an important item from him. Sero worked as a security at a highly guarded tech place.

So Deku was shocked when he encountered him near an abandoned tunnel. He escaped.

Toga had already died as a sad teenager but it was a direct action by (gravity girl) and it fxcked her up. She killed a girl her own age. A crying girl that screamed with so much pain in her heart. They were both betas but one was seen as a monster and the other didn’t understand until after she was gone and she became the “monster”.

Whose died in the past arcs until now:

Idk but this has affected everyone and changed them and how they see things. They all now see there is a problem. These quirks divide people and ABO dehumanizes them.

There was another thing to factor in. All Mutant type quirked individuals did not have the ABO genes.

This is kept quiet and they are told they are betas with weaker scent glands.

But also…. The heat cycle is not some all encompassing thing, it’s just a longer period with less blood more hormones that affect your mood swings. You’re angrier and more territorial that can drop into a deep depressive state if it’s really bad.

They are humans not animals. We are working with human bodies. Biology of the human shows how we reproduce.

That doesn’t change. Regular human reproduction including the alternatives if someone is infertile.

With how humans are, it’s up to the person if they want to say Heat or Rut, but there is a difference.

Ruts are bouts of hormonal imbalances that can be curbed with medication.

Heats are basically longer periods that last the entire week instead just a few days within the week. It can be debilitating.

Some fics have this Omega obey command thing but no thank you. That goes against the human will and dehumanizes them more. It’s now a fxcking lie in universe to justify mistreatment that was disproven long ago but people love having an excuse to blame their actions.

Humans have sentience. Free will to make decisions for our selves. We have social structures but we aren’t stuck in hierarchies. We have the ability to rebel against mistreatment. All lively beings can act for their own survival and the survival of others.

Is a cat going to let you kick it without fighting back? No. You will bleed if it’s the last thing the cat will do.

Crows are smart enough to REMEMBER grievances and will act accordingly.

Tigers and Elephants with kill you if you wrong them.

Monkeys are vicious in prolonging suffering as a retaliation.

Humans can stab each other out of revenge.

Anyways the fics progresses from senior year of middle school to JHA to Adult hood.

i will say as much as i’m thoroughly enjoying it, season 2 is CONFUSING man.

there’s been so many plotlines, a lot of which i thought would last longer and be more important than they are. i’m genuinely so shocked that cora wasn’t the big bad in the end, like wtf??? we get this random girl and guy instead?? i will admit his plotline was set up reasonably well, but tamara i have absolutely no idea and not really in a fun exciting way, she just came out of nowhere. this show has a real problem of every single mysterious character being revealed as something important and it’s getting too predictable

also can’t get over the fact that rumple finally found baelfire and then… that’s it. i am obsessed with him and belle, but they REALLY need to explore him and neal better.

oh and august got turned back into a child 😃 hate to be crude but that man has had sex idk how to feel about this

idk like i said i’m really loving it it’s a good fun time but it is kind of a mess lmao

Weekly Update January 5, 2024

I’m still recovering slowly. I never mentioned this because I want to be as vague as I can about my big congenital medical issue, but the surgery last week removed some tissue that affects my endocrine system, and now that it’s gone I’m having some problems with my mood. I have a medicine that corrects it, but I need to wait another week and a half to get my dosage adjusted, so all next week I’m going to be volatile which sucks. Stomach has seemingly gotten better though so hopefully that pain was just caused by those cysts and nothing else was wrong. Sorry if I ramble on a bit too much tonight, I am loopy because of the endocrine stuff so I might go on too long. Anyway artstuffs.

I got a music project done. It was for Mav, and it was pretty small but I stayed up all night working on it. Working on it I discovered a big set of plugins that I got somewhere that look to be automatically doing some of that balancing I was worried about. I still need to double check what exactly it can do, since I’d like a widener plugin, but I don’t want to stack my brain over it if I already have one. I have a few ideas floating around for the next song thing, I’m a bit hesitant on continuing that vocal one I haven’t finished because I watched a bunch of videos today in the bad lyrics of the Wish soundtrack, and the lady kept bringing up cadence and pentameter which are concepts I know about but can’t hear. Like, pentameter is supposed to be the natural inflection a syllable has, but like whenever I hear it, I just hear the inflection of the vocalist. I think I’m overthinking it, since she used a writing scheme to explain it and I think the vocaloid software uses that same writing scheme so maybe I can learn through practice? Or I can just write lyrics that match the melody and call it good as long as the flow sounds natural because of subconscious understanding, like how I figured out how to do harmonies. Whatever. Music theory is hard but my stupid will and brute force is harder.

Other instrumental things I’ve been kinda thinking about include a little Zelda medley that I already recorded the melodies and stuff for, instrumental themes for my OCs because of course. And then I kinda want to just do a big fat medley that goes on for like an hour-ish because I love those kinds of medleys they’re great for car rides and stuff. And the final two I’m thinking about would be for animation memes: either an arcade beat-em-up style boss fight sounding theme, or a cover of a 90s pop-punk-rock (idk what genre) song. I think that one would be cool because I could use it as promotional stuff for a comic.

Oh yeah that O’Malley comic! I actually did good thumbnail work on that this week! I was going to do more today but mood and sleep schedule were wonky, plus I had a meeting this morning, so good chance I’ll put it off until tomorrow. But either way, chipping away at it, trying to watch more movies so I can get better at understanding shot comp, watched Kill Bill part 1 last night and wasn’t expecting it to be like, the best fucking movie ever? Like why does everyone talk about it like ‘eh it’s pretty good’ like no that shit was *Phenomenal*! Hoping part 2 lives up to the first, planning to watch it maybe tomorrow night? Definitely before I go back to uni. Anyway pitch comic is coming along nice, after it’s drawn I can either work on the rest of that story or a pitch for the secondary story I’ve been working on, depending on demand. Right now leaning towards series, since I have general synopsies for a couple more general ‘episodes’.

Also only done like one general drawing for comsheet practice hehehe it’s fine I can try others as time comes and is appropriate. Also did epithet stuff but not as much as I’d like. My original plan tonight was to work on TTRPG stuff but maybe I’ll do writing or thumbnailing instead. Or maybe both.

TRGA: got shot 1-4 done enough. Also got Jon tweened for 1-5. I need to clean him up and do his face and stuff. Tonight maybe if I’m having trouble focusing on the other stuff I’ll clean him up, I think I want to go back to that ‘one significant development a day’ schedule I was on for a bit, but pushed a bit further since I have better strategies now. I’ve also started the ‘every time I sit down and open clip studio I’m going to draw one (1) prop’ strategy so hopefully props won’t be as bad in the future either (even the ones I can’t just recycle). Tomorrow if I’m doing better I’ll try to get 1-5 Jon’s face done (and clean him up too if I don’t tonight) and maybe do another drawing. Maybe more epithet TTRPG stuff maybe not.

I’m trying to get my priorities back in order. 1) TRGA 2) Comic work 3) fix your commissions 4) other projects. Inspiration is fickle though so I’m really all over the place. My mood being volatilized is also not helping but I’ll keep going until my brain explodes. For now I’m able to plan out enough with time for sleep and stuff. I don’t know what’s exactly going to happen when classes start but I am taking *fewer* credits than normal so theoretically that means more time.

100 days with Face

Its been 100 days since Jimin released his debut ep Face. And boy what a ride we’ve had with it! 

To date it has amassed over 700 million streams on spotify. One can not talk about Face without talking about the elephant in the room:

#1 on the Hot 100!! The first k - soloist to achieve this and the second only k - act (bts being first). Park Jimin really did not come to play. He brought us a beautiful album, cohesive in its conception.

Set Me Free pt. 2 Music Video

He introduced us to this new era with the pre - release track, Set Me Free pt. 2, and boy if you weren’t already tuned in you definitely were after this. The horns ppl, THE HORNS! 🎺 ugh love it so much. The way I stopped breathing during the second verse during the music video felt like a reset. The choreo for this song is so good, like aesthetically I’m obsessed with the synchronized movements.

Like Crazy Music Video

Like Crazy was the title track for the album and it did not disappoint. The teaser for this mv will go down in the history books. I just love this song so much. A synth - pop dream, and the dance choreo? So sensual. The way I didn’t notice what the background dancers were doing until a performance vid like 2 weeks later 👀

I’m not going to speak on all the rest of the tracks, cause the way I could go on about the soundscape for interlude: dive is kind of crazy. But I want to show some love to my fave track off this album: Face - Off.

I don’t know how to encapsulate the way Face - Off makes me feel, as an opening song it makes me pay attention. Essentially it perks up my hind brain and says hey focus on me. And its so controlled in its anger, a slow build that just makes me seethe. Cause I’ve been there, we’ve all been there, and it really really gets me. Please pleases give it a listen if you haven’t.

Now this came out later and not really apart of debut but I feel like I would be doing you and me a disservice if I didn’t mention it…

the Festa gift to make all army’s cry. So beautiful, his voice, the guitar. So good. And I’m gonna assume this was intentional but the way the album had a hardware and a software concept. And chronologically Set Me Free pt. 2 comes before Letter. His outfit in SMF is all black until the very end, the hardware aesthetic. Then in Letter he’s in all light cream, the software aesthetic. Idk maybe like can’t update the software without updating the hardware? 🤷🏼‍♀️
