Jax's fear of being trapped and what that might imply about his past/future

Hello 2 days ago i've developped a chronic case of Brainrotting about Jax, tragic I know.

I'm kinda basing this slightly of what Gooseworx have said in QnAs though I will not rely on it because I think purely relying on a creator's words and not the media isn't really satisfying.

The main thing that stood out to me in this episode with Jax was that he seems to fear punishement.

He seems really freaked out when Gangle proposed the idea of Cain punishing him...

And then he immediatly goes to Zooble to be like "lol you don't believe Cain actually could punish us right ?" and while he's proven right at the end of the episode, the fact that he immediatly tries to seek reassurance that he wouldn't get punished says a lot. In fact in his expressions he looks both sides while saying it almost like he seems...unsure/anxious (idk the right word).

Also when he's brought into the employee training scene. He's weirdly...afraid and shaken by it ?? (not showing the screenshot cos everyone remembers that scene).

Which like, I understand that was terrifying but it was a strangely strong reaction to something that...light ? I mean he wasn't brainwashed or anything. I might be stretching it but all of it, including the scene's purpose makes me wonder if it brought Jax bad memories of...something.

After that scene happens, he completely acts normal and stops trying to be a dick completely.

Now this isn't a convo about weither that's Jax's true self and his jerk self is a persona. People are trying way too hard to either try to make him a one dimensional asshole or secretly a good guy which like he's neither he's a bastard with layers. But that's not what this is about so ANYWAYS.

All of this made me wonder what was Jax's main Thing, more so his theme or the thing that makes him tick.

We know with Gangle it's her issue with masking (her dreams, how she feels, etc...), Ragatha being a people pleaser, Zooble's body dysmorphia, King's memories and how they link with the loss of his wife and Pomni's desire for companionship.

For Jax we actually don't really know other than...he's a dick and he's using it to cope which like....duh ?

But with this episode and also a little thing that I got from researching QnAs (because i'm normal and chill like that) made me realise what could Jax's Thing.

A Fear of Consequences and being Trapped

Now the main thing that drove this thought was me finding out Gooseworx assigning a song to Jax which is this one.

Don't fence me in, huh....

That line meaning a desire to not be restricted and not losing their freedom.

This makes me think this is probably what Jax's character is at least partially about, or more so...his biggest fear. Being restricted, reprimended or trapped.

I think in part that fear could be related to his past, which I'm gonna throw my cards here, my own personal theory is that he was stuck in juvenile detention for misbehaving as a kid. That experience traumatising him enough that he was probably similar to the Jax we've seen at the end of episode 4, just Tired.

Now does it Necessarely have to be a juvenile detention center, honestly no ? But it's the thing that makes the most sense in my head.

Either way this also explains a lot of things about his behavior in the circus.

He's now secluded in a space with absolutely 0 Consequences, the one person who can dish it out is an AI who is probably programmed to never harm humans (directly at least). He's even proven right at the end of episode 4.

I think what led to Jax's shit behavior was this realisation that this is pretty much now his Safe Heaven. In real life he can't just be who he wants to be, there's potential consequences that he's afraid of.

Now I know I'm gonna hear like "oh so you just think Jax is an asshole by nature", I don't think he is (i don't think he's ever been a nice person his life but like there's a difference here), I genuinely think he's not more so being himself rather that it's just that he's overcompensating for the lack of freedom that he's felt his entire life.

In a way it's similar to how people act on the internet.

Imagine that you were a misbehaving kid and you were reprimended HARSHLY for it, to the point where you're not really fixed per say but you're stuck being terrified of even being slightly flawed.

But now here he is, in a place where death doesn't matter, the harm he does doesn't matter and the one person who can actually hurt him just gives him weird shenanigans that give him opportunities to lash out.

However, there's a tiny little problem...

This fantasy cannot last forever forever and I'm not talking about them getting out because as far as they know it's out of the cards for them.

It's very much clear that the circus with the arrival of Pomni is becoming more tight knit and less divided, creating a more solid friendship group with the help of Pomni being an actual normal nice human person (Zooble is nice too but they're more jaded and too depressed to deal with most of everything, and Ragatha is a whole baggage).

It's becoming increasingly clear in the episodes themselves as well that, Jax can't just be an asshole anymore. Every episode since episode 1 has led to him being reprimended or him not being given what he wants. The group is becoming closer and they're sick of his bullshit.

He also probably doesn't like being alone and hated. We see him seeming sad at the talk of Kofmo's funeral before having to go back to being angry and dismissive in his facial expression.

Maybe he really did want to go to Kofmo's funeral but like would anyone actually believe he would be genuine, after being an asshole for so long would it really be worth for Jax to just break it all right there.

But it's clear he's also not really enjoying being alone.

Jax in a way is basically burrying a hole for himself. Being an asshole was his perfect dream after probably living a life of boredom and repression but now that this consequenceless existence has finally revealed itself to just be a mirage, he's now unable to access the things he really needs.

Actual friendship.

It's clear that the Digital Circus has a point of companionship being extremely important, in fact when we get mentions of Kofmo's abstracting we get also mentions about how no one really founds his jokes funny. Kinger mentioning how making someone feel alone and unwanted is the worst thing you could do to someone. Gangle is saved by Pomni and Zooble's presence.

However there's no one at fault for Jax's isolation, he only has himself to blame.

Being the child of Rapunzel, it’s no surprise you took on an artistic hobby. Even your sister, Zellie did fun hairstyling and colorful outfits, but you kept it more traditional. Traditional in the sense that you keep it simple and just paint. Painting, drawing, and sketching, anything like that.

You found yourself doodling every time you had a pencil in your hand, half of your jeans are painted with little stars and flowers just from absent minded doodling while coming up with a real project.

This obsession naturally landed you in advanced art classes. Which was of course your favorite class of the day. You had just finished a landscape painting for an assignment that took you longer than it should have, (you were never very good with landscapes) but now that the project is over, that just means it was time for the next.

But this project was your final exam for the year. A portrait. Not a self portrait, but a portrait of someone else at school. There was also a paper that had to be written with it about technique and color theory but that was the boring part. Now you were too busy thinking of the possibilities for your muse!

You were fairly popular at school, especially considering you were royalty. But you were also just nice and charming to many of the people around you, so it usually wasn’t hard to ask people for help with your projects. But… your issue this time being that it was the end of the year. Most people were busy with their own end of the year exams and projects.

You asked Bridget first, who apologized a dozen times about how she couldn’t help this time because she was so overwhelmed with a new recipe she was trying for her culinary final. Then you asked Ella who said she had too much to study for and that she couldn’t do anything after school because she had to go home for chores. And anyone else you asked had similar responses.

In the dining hall you sat by yourself and stared at your notebook, trying to come up with anyone else you could ask. It was a free period so the hall was pretty empty since most of the students spent their time out at the courtyard. The quiet always helped you focus so you weren't complaining about being alone there.

Just as you were about to cross out another name on your list, the notebook was suddenly shoved off the table and replaced by someone hopping up to sit there instead of in a chair.

"Whoops. Be more careful with your things." The boy smirked as he crossed one leg over the other.

"Hook." You sighed, picking up the notebook. He thought he was funny for the way he picked on you and others, but really it wasn't that amusing.

You never understood why he decided to pick on you so much, it's not like you ever did anything to him. But at least his bullying was hardly considered bullying. Just a snarky comment here and there with a mocking smirk.

"What's their royal highness doing by themselves? Your mates finally ditch you?" He asked with the same old stupid grin he always had on. How you wish you could take a frying pan to his face and wipe it off sometimes.

"No. I'm trying to work on a project and you're kind of distracting me." You mutter with an annoyed huff.

"Distracting you? That's what I'm best at, darling."

Honestly you weren't really in the mood for this. Usually you'd just laugh and shrug him off since you never saw much harm in him, he just liked attention. But after spending all day working on a project you can't even start has frustrated you beyond belief. You suddenly stood up as if to stand your ground, "You know what, Hook? I've had it with your—" You abruptly stopped speaking.

Hook just looked at you with a mocking grin, clearly not taking you seriously. But the way he sat with his legs crossed, leaned back, and his hook hand held near his face suddenly struck you with inspiration and your annoyment quickly flooded away.

James Hook. He would be the perfect muse for your project. He's elegant with every move he makes, he's undeniably beautiful, and not overwhelmingly proper. His darker demeanor contrasts the elegant position in just the perfect way.

"Oh my gosh." You held your hand to your chest as if you had the most beautiful life changing epiphany ever. You tended to be a little dramatic like that.

"Hmm?" He hummed, clearly a little confused by whatever was going on inside your head.

Your eyes were practically glowing from all of the ideas running in your head, "Hook, you're perfect." Was all that came out of your lips.

The pretty blunt compliment seemed to also confuse Hook, "Yes..." He agreed but still looked at you, waiting for you to supply more context. "And?"

His ego might just be big enough to agree to help you with your project, "Have you ever thought about... Modeling?" You asked, tilting your head to the side, taking in his entire appearance.

It was no surprise he enthusiastically agreed. On the way to the art room (that was thankfully empty) he only spoke about his looks and how you'd definitely get an A+ on your project thanks to him. Of course he also wanted to keep the portrait after it's been graded and given back to you. You never really took the self absorbed things he said seriously, they mostly just made you chuckle. It was kind of funny the way he spoke so confidently about himself, considering he wasn't exactly the first person people were lining up to be friends with or date.

You never really hated Hook. Sure, he pissed you off and his friends weren't the greatest either, but you never saw him as big and bad as he wished he was. For a pirate at least, he wasn't very scary. Mostly mildly annoying.

You couldn't say the same for his friend, Uliana. She was definitely the more brutal one of the VKs, which made sense considering she was their 'leader' or something. You mostly tried to steer clear from them, but somehow always had you and Hook running into each other.

"Could you please stop moving? Just hold still for ten minutes." You asked of him sternly. You sat in front of the easel while Hook sat gracefully on the desk in front of you. Well, not very graceful anymore. His pose became slouched and bored after only five minutes of him standing there.

"It's been an hour, can't I move now? Let me see it so far." He complained, frowning at the boredom of just sitting there.

"No. It's not done and if you move then it's going to be impossible for you to sit back correctly again." You explained, eyes not leaving the canvas.

You should have expected this behavior, but you were a little too excited about the process, you forgot who exactly you were dealing with. Every ten or so minutes he'd ask if he could move and you'd have to snap at him to stay still.

Though the next time you looked back up, your eyes narrowed at him shifting and moving, "James! You're moving too much. Tilt your head back to the right."

He rolled his eyes and tilted his head as you said.

"Not your right, my right— Okay, actually," You stood up and walked over to him, grabbing his face and angling it in the correct position.

"Ya know, you should ask me on a date first before getting handsy." He smirked, looking you in the eye.

You give him a skeptical look before taking your hands off of him, "Just stop moving. And keep quiet too." It was impossible to hide your own smirk. You really couldn't help it.

You walk back to your canvas and stare at Hook for a second, picking up your paint brush. Despite you telling him to keep quiet and stop moving, it didn't take long before he started talking again. Mostly gossip and stupid stuff that didn't really matter.

After another long while you finished the painting. Well, not really. You still had details and things to change but you got the base of what you want. It looked pretty much complete to anyone who wasn’t a painter, but it wasn’t quite. It was finished enough to where you didn’t really need Hook anymore though.

“Okay! You can see it now.” You grinned, clearly bursting with excitement. It really turned out better than you imagined.

Your muse sitting on a windowsill with only a little light trickling on his face and overgrown dark plants and roses surrounding. It was definitely darker than you usually painted but it turned out amazing. Using the Flowers to frame his face but the rest being overgrown vines, it really felt like the right artistic decision.

Hook wasted no time to get up and look, resting his arm on your shoulder. His eyebrows raised slightly in surprise, “Wow.” Was all he said at first. You looked at him, hoping he’d say something else or some kind of approval. “Are you in love with me or something?” He grinned, looking from the painting to you.

You chuckled and rolled your eyes, “You wish.”

Based on that statement though, it was clear he liked it. Of course he was always open to someone making something in his image, but he really never expected someone to draw him so elegant and pretty. If anything, he expected something scarier. But you managed to make the painting dark and dramatic but still beautiful. He really was the perfect muse.

“Really? So the royal painter doesn’t want a kiss for their hard work in capturing my beauty?” He teased, taking your hand with his hook and leaning in as if he was about to try and kiss you.

“Try anything and you’re face wont be so pretty anymore.” You threatened with a light hearted laugh, pushing him away.

“Ouch.” Hook dramatically held his hand to his heart as if you’d stabbed him before grinning. Maybe you should’ve admired his beauty a little sooner. He could’ve been very helpful to your other countless projects.

but possibly not the way we thought it was. this is going to sound so convoluted but bear with me here (and big thanks to the anon that precipitated this theory, and major apologies that writing this theory is only going to delay my answer to your ask even further💕)

a major plot-point for me in s2 was this bad boy:

which i think we can safely say is a very op power for demons to possess for it not to come up again later on in the show? it's almost like a parallel to the book of life on that front - which is mentioned in the bookshop in ep6, but we've all agreed is pretty much going to be a major chekhov's gun in s3, right? well, what about the miracle blocker?

why wouldn't shax think of getting one either from furfur or from beelzebub when storming the bookshop? well, could be that shax didn't think of it. true - but i do wonder if something iffy was in fact going on in ep5/ep6 showdown, right up into the Final Fifteen.

let's start here: aziraphale has got some reality-bending bullshit going on, which i think is possibly just naturally emanating from aziraphale himself (im not wholly convinced it's entirely in-character for him to purposefully fuck with people's heads and autonomy) and perhaps the dancing/outfits/emotions etc is just the image he wanted for the dance, and his magic (?) essentially made it happen, so much so that he was potentially taken in by it too... hence why he was so readily resistant to crowley's pleas to listen to him about the danger? idk, getting sidetracked.

but anyway, then the demons come, and we see the below where... randomly, aziraphale's miracles/magic doesn't work. and there's no given reason for it:

soon after this, aziraphale opens the portal; one thing on reflection? that portal opens damn fucking fast. sure, the peril is high, certainly higher than s1 when he had to pray and practically beg to speak to someone... but if the portal is more or less for metatron's direct use, and the metatron is so damn busy, being the voice of god... why would he be sat there waiting for a call?

s1, the time between aziraphale starting to pray/dial 9-1-heaven, and the portal opening (excluding where he shouts to shadwell that the shop is closed) is just over 31 seconds. s2, from "hello, is there anybody there" to portal opening is just over 5. a very short cut-down for a retired, traitorous angel, regardless of whether they're under attack (which, tbh, would be in heaven's interests, right? for aziraphale to get Got?). the explanation for that can only be, in my book, that metatron has been watching... and possibly has been since the first time the portal opened.

anyway, we then move on to metatron arriving at the bookshop, and offering aziraphale the coffee. others have reported a miracle chime, and tbh i too can hear at least a faint, high strong, that sounds out of place in the ambient sound of the scene. video below, where ive marked out where i can hear it:

we know that aziraphale doesn't drink coffee. tea, hot chocolate, wine... but he's never, as far as we've seen, canonically drunk coffee. he must have tried it at some point, crowley likes it/drinks it, so why wouldn't aziraphale have tried it at some point? well, i think he probably has, and didn't like it. i think he tried to change it, in front of the metatron, so he could take a sip and not be offensive. but... it doesn't work. aziraphale's reaction is awkward. and metatron's reaction is smug. i think metatron has a miracle blocker.

aziraphale is not stupid. i think he knows possibly from that moment, or very soon after, that metatron has been up to something. i think he knows that metatron might have eyes and ears everywhere. i think aziraphale has worked out that metatron is not in fact A Nice Old Man, and knows it right through until he gets in the lift (which im going to talk about more in the aforementioned anon ask). i don't think aziraphale has been overtly threatened, because the metatron has worked so hard in this scene to be non-threatening. but he has underestimated how smart aziraphale actually is.

making the offer to reform heaven appeals to aziraphale, there is no doubt on that. and aziraphale is desperate for crowley to be with him - not only on the layer of wanting to be together, or another layer of crowley deserving to have heaven make amends to him, or even the layer wanting to protect crowley under his status as supreme archangel... but because if aziraphale walks away, without crowley, crowley has nowhere safe to go. the bookshop has been compromised, and it is no longer safe. metatron with his almond syrup has Eyes and Ears everywhere. when crowley refuses, aziraphale has to get to heaven, and to metatron, before they get to him.

i do completely believe that aziraphale wants to help heaven, and possibly seek any way in which he can return it to what he thinks or believes was god's original purpose for it - to return or make it into the place that was always meant to stand for good and justice and love. but i also believe that now, more than ever, aziraphale teeters on the edge of giving heaven a chance - or being burnt to ashes, literally or figuratively. idk about you, but i have a gut feeling on what option he, in this moment, would be inclined to take.

Aziraphale didn’t fall in love in 1941

at least, not in the way everyone is saying.

personally, I never really believed that Aziraphale fell in love with Crowley in 1941. I absolutely understand why people think that, but I mean, look at the French Revolution scene, he nearly got himself discorporated just so he could ask Crowley for a crepe date. He invited Crowley for oysters in Rome. Even with angel Crowley, before the beginning, the stars were being created and Aziraphale was only looking at Crowley, or Raphael, or whatever his name was then. But something was happening inside Aziraphale’s mind after the bombing. My theory is, Aziraphale loved Crowley from before the beginning. Idk if he recognized him in Eden, but I think he felt love for him then. But here’s the thing, Aziraphale had probably been taught something along the lines of “demons cannot love” by heaven, propaganda to convince the angels that they are better. So Aziraphale thought that the feelings he was having were Crowley tempting him, like in the garden, or some demonic trick, designed to get him to fall(in love, and then from heaven) it was during the whole thing with Job that Aziraphale is starting to think “oh, this demon isn’t that demonic, he cares about humanity. He might even be nice”(he’s not nice, nice is a four letter word.) and there is a little doubt in his mind, that maybe his love wasn’t Crowley manipulating him. After this, we can see he acts more comfortably around Crowley. He begins to trust him more and more, with every rescue, or demonic miracle. But of course, he still has his doubts. All of this could still be a ploy to get him to fall. But then, in 1941, Crowley saves his books, walks on consecrated ground for him, and doesn’t dis corporate him during his magic trick. And now Aziraphale realizes that his love for Crowley is pure, genuine and not manufactured. He also realizes that Crowley loves him back, and finally sees the gestures Crowley has made to him over the years for what they were.

but the question is, why did he not pursue a relation ship. Some might say because he doesn’t want to disobey, but I don’t think that’s true, Aziraphale thwarted the apocalypse, lied to gods face, and hid a supreme archangel. He doesn’t care what heaven thinks, he’s scared his actions will hurt Crowley. So for all the time he’s affiliated with heaven, he pushes Crowley away. But then he’s not with heaven anymore, but he’s still scared for Crowley. Beelzebub can summon Crowley, shax meets up regularly with him, so its clear hell can still hurt him(and thus heaven probably can too). But then he sees Gabriel with Beelzebub, and he realizes that they can also be together. Just look at him grabbing Crowley. He want Crowley to come to heaven with him so they can both be safe, but Crowley only sees himself only being good enough for him as an angel.

The moment a was about to list of what I enjoyed about the game too! I was going to say one of my favorite things about the game is Crowny, I love how they are defined to an extent, I prefer non blank slate protagonists because I believe they're fun to write and read (so far the only blank Mc I enjoyed was from tally ho, the ones from cake and ale is more of an airhead), I love seeing Crowny interact with the world on their own (to the point I was sad when the other 3 would show up lol) it's really cool see them grow, I know people have complained, but I do not think people understand how damaging being coddled your whole life is, and I know loved doing the small little things like lying in your resume, trying to decide your college, learning how to drive and almost killing yourself and you bro, all the regular things we do as teens, I'm very proud of them, specially when they stand up for themselves on the last chapter when all the other characters were fighting and they bring up to light how they just got publicly humiliated, I just love how mcs are their own person too regardless of what others think and Crowny is very unique, you shared a gif from the new Dracula movie and it fits very well with the story, in another tome Crowny would be seen differently be it as attractive as people love to ask or spiritually, by alas. I don't know if I'm making sense since English is not my first language. I was also so into their character study I forgot to romance anyone lol, I tried overcoming all my bias to romance Lorcan, (he's, blonde and your sisters ex, so that was..) but then I discovered he was a bottom and into the friendzone(not yet, but THEY WILL BE FRIENDS)he was thrown, then I tried Imre who I at first thought was blackmailing Lorcan into working with him (idk the two of them are suspicious and I have a theory they're working together idk to bring Orla back, at least Lorcan), and HE'S SUCH A CREEP, fake ass bitch, I love him your honor, it's so funny how Crowny sees tru his bullshit, but also their romantic interactions are so charged and funny, he goes to make a move and the Mc is like lemme get out of the car and he locks the door, which is creepy, but he gets that pretty privilege, he gets horny after seeing Crowny humiliated and decides it's tiddy suckling hour, meanwhile Crowny is getting ready for a fist fight, their intaractions are so funny AND NOW DUM DUM DUM Nia!!! I understand both sides, they're teenagers and relationships are complicated, you cannot expect someone to always be there for you and give nothing back, but you cannot also wait for someone to read your mind when you're unhappy in a relationship (friendships are relationships), you can love someone, but decide it's too much for you to carry all the burden (and it's another layer if your Mc is a guy or white too, because black women are put into a double caretaker role), it's also really funny how Nia and Crowny are both not amused by the others interactions with Imre, what are you doing with my bff kind of think teenagers have, but also bitches just talk!!(I wonder if Imre finds it amusing) and I have more to say about the town and other characters, but this is already big enough and probably not very interesting bc other people have such insightful thoughts that are not a brainvomit like mine, anyway that'd all thanks for reading all that💐❤️

You know, after reading some of these asks lately and rumors online about the whole Austin/Zoe cheating rumors (when there's no proof), or the countless claims about Austin "cheating" on Vanessa as being the reason for their breakup (when there's yet again, zero proof), and the whole "Elvis voice" bullying thing for over two years, etc. -- I now have a theory. 🤔

I think Austin probably suffers from "Pretty Boy Prejudice". Be patient with me here, please, as I try to explain myself lol.

First of all - *Disclaimer* I am in no way shape or form trying to claim that Austin has it oh-so-hard in life, or that the things that I've mentioned are in any way near the level of real prejudice that people of color or of different races face in life on a daily basis at all. Not in the least. Austin is still a white, (I assume) heterosexual, male in America. He's automatically privileged in various ways, and he knows this and has already publicly acknowledged this lol.

But what I'm talking about is something different, and I've coined the term "Pretty Boy Prejudice".

I think people just want to pin something bad on Austin honestly.

You know how pretty girls get "Pretty Privilege"? Well, I think that these days, super good-looking men a lot of times get the OPPOSITE of that. In other words, it seems like a lot of women these days don't really trust good-looking guys. They especially don't trust extremely good-looking guys. Maybe they've been hurt by a lot of them or something in the past, idk. But it's definitely a trend that I've been noticing.

Now days, it seems like women go more for the nerdy guys, or the guys who are average in looks, or even downright ugly lol, and so, they feel more comfortable with those types of guys because they think they will be nicer, won't cheat, won't break their hearts, etc. Good-looking guys are now looked at with distrust... maybe even disgust/disdain now days by some women. I'm just noticing that trend.

The funny thing is though, I've known plenty of ugly and even nerdy guys who were straight up players, and it's even more insidious, because you're not even expecting them to be like that. So, even an average or ugly looking guy can be a player or do you wrong lol.

This theory for Austin just popped into my head, but it would explain a lot, actually.

It would explain why people were calling him "pretentious" during the Elvis press tour interviews, when he's never been anything like that at all. He's just a nerd lol... 😅 Painfully shy (especially growing up) ... Maybe even a little socially awkward, which, again, he's already admitted to all of this himself.

It would also explain the relentless "Elvis voice" jokes [eyeroll]

It would explain all of the "cheating" allegations made out of thin air when there's zero proof whatsoever 🙄 The thought being: "A guy that good-looking can't possibly be faithful to you!!"

It would also explain why some people have this weird urge to dislike him for no good reason (they even admit this!) even though Austin has been nothing but kind, sweet, down to earth, and respectful of everyone he meets

It's almost as if people can't imagine that a guy that good-looking can actually be a nice and decent human being or something. 🥴

It's almost like they want to find something really wrong or horrible about him so badly! Otherwise, it just doesn't compute in their heads.

I think that Austin suffers from "Pretty Boy Prejudice". That's my theory at least.

Life after NDE

Before reading, please see this post. It’s where I first explored the possibility that what we think we know about One for All is unreliable. It also ends with my own guesses about how Katsuki plays into it all. Now, with chapter 404, I can continue where it left off.

There are a lot of different tangents floating around here that I need to bring together for you, so let’s start with what came to light in this newest chapter. There’s a clear emphasis on Toshinori’s vestige form:

As soon as I saw the panels where Shigaraki talks about how the vestige is taking full form, I was practically shouting “OBJECTION” Ace Attorney-style, because they were a complete contradiction to how we were made to understand vestiges in chapter 304 (oh hey look, exactly 100 chapters ago!). Back then, it was suggested to us that Toshinori was special because of his quirklessness, that it allowed him to imprint upon OFA in a way that none of the other previous users could. In contrast, Shigaraki makes it seem like Toshi is no different from the rest. Like oh yeah, this is just how it works, they aren’t fully formed until they die, right? Hello?? No? I thought we were assuming the vestiges didn't have to do with actual souls, apart from Toshi? Given Shigaraki’s own brand of unreliability in his immature frame of mind, I found myself wondering: is he making an assumption, or is he letting slip a secret bit of information about OFA? Idk man, OFA wasn’t even doing this whole vestige thing until like a few months ago, so.

Either way, we can observe the change. As Toshinori’s lifeforce fades, he appears in OFA. I’m left with the simple observation that if he were truly different from the other vestiges because of his quirklessness, it would not have happened this way, since OFA doesn’t have Toshi’s own unique quirk factor to work with, but rather the other way around. You would have expected his vestige to stay the same, or possibly disappear altogether, since it was ostensibly exclusively based on the influence of a living consciousness.

That exception to the rule described in 304 never sat right with me anyway, and I’m not convinced that OFA contains mere memories of its previous users via their quirks just like AFO does. Sure, it’s nice and edgy to imagine that OFA/AFO are more similar than they are different, deep down. But poetic opposites are more interesting to me: AFO isolates by taking, while OFA connects by giving. Previous OFA users give themselves to their successors. One for All was “truly born” not when All for One tossed Yoichi a stolen consolation, but when 2nd extended his hand. There is something distinctly emotional and personal about that. Nana was right—it is kinda romantic.

Because Toshinori kept living, because Izuku has meaningful relationships, that chain of giving linked down through OFA was finally brought to light, like a circuit that’s being closed. At least, that’s how I see it. That’s pretty much what I talked about in my previous post.

Back then I also suggested that this theory of personal connection in some way explains Katsuki apparently having a vestige. Since chapter 403, where Toshinori describes his legacy as being embodied in both Izuku AND Katsuki, I was reminded of how Toshinori was gradually shown this over the course of the manga, as he came to understand Katsuki and his relationship to Izuku, how they are inseparable.

When Toshinori was inspired to pass OFA on to Izuku as he witnessed him trying to save Katsuki, he had no idea the two boys even knew each other. What he saw as a random act of selflessness was in reality a desperate manifestation of a connection that extended beyond memory, of osananajimi. With the eyes of traditional heroism, one could choose to see this as Toshinori’s fatal mistake, that he accidentally chose a successor with a “weakness” of personal attachment, but we all know that heroic isolation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. No, I think Toshinori made precisely the right choice.

This is going to seem like it’s coming out of nowhere, but bear with me: you know how we still haven’t been told how the first OFA transfer happened? I feel almost silly admitting this, but I think it absolutely had to have been done instinctually, because it’s just too damn specific. As in, they didn’t know what they were doing or what it would accomplish, but they did it anyway. As in. They moved. Without thinking.

Toshinori didn’t fully consciously understand what he was seeing when Izuku ran to Katsuki, but deep within OFA, perhaps he recognized something familiar.

What if, somehow, without knowing it, Toshinori gave One for All to two people? His conviction and intent to give it was inspired by Izuku’s connection to Katuski. Yes, the transfer is inherently physical, but it also relies on mental assertion. Plus, how we think the transfer works may also be an assumption (again, the first time it happened was probably on instinct). Let me break it down even more: Toshi probably thought, as he passed OFA on, “I’m giving it to a successor who has my same balance of heroism—save to win, win to save.” But, in reality, Izuku relies on Katsuki for that balance, as his image of victory. Therefore I think I can argue that their relationship is irrevocably bound within the pact of the OFA transfer. Maybe because Katsuki’s part of OFA is based on emotional connection, once that connection is reciprocated…

…the full extent of that dual transfer is awakened.

I understand I’m making a lot of logical leaps here, but there has to be some sort of explanation for the Katsuki we see at the point of his death, talking to Toshinori’s vestige. I used to think it meant Katsuki had a vestige too. But then why are Katsuki and Toshinori alone, and without Izuku knowing? Moreover, why didn’t Katsuki materialize from the metaphysical mist around Izuku when he died, just as Toshinori did here?

Here comes the other thing I realized in 404. The simplest explanation may be that Katsuki isn’t a vestige at all, but rather he was visiting the OFA interior just as Izuku has done in his sleep or in a coma. Because he’s not a previous user, he’s a current user. The sequence of Toshinori’s NDE (near death experience) in 404, the way it manifested externally around Izuku as something Izuku was aware of, rather than internally within OFA from Toshinori’s point of view, shows me that what happened to Katsuki was different.

A lot of us have been speculating that Katsuki “has access to” OFA in some form or another for quite some time now, but I think the way the idea is suggested in 403/404 is an important distinction because it specifies the mode of connection. To me, it matters that they have two halves of a whole given to each of them, as opposed to, “the chosen one + his sidekick with a little extra OFA boost.” This puts them on equal ground, and it implies that the closer they become, the stronger One for All will be against All for One. It promises that these two idiots who have been toeing around each other and leaving things unspoken for so long will have to really face the facts of their relationship.

One last thing: you might be wondering why the other vestiges apparently haven’t picked up on what’s going on and told Izuku. Well, Yoichi may have felt it? (Where has he been?) But also, Toshinori is the only one directly involved, the only one who realizes his legacy is carried by two. Up until this point his connection to his vestige self has been limited, sort of one-way. For example, he could tell the other vestiges about his research into OFA, but in return he could only faintly pick up on things, and only while Izuku was unconscious.

The time Toshinori spent as a full vestige was brief, but I’m sure it was enough to learn some things about where the shade of himself has been. Even if I’m wrong about everything else, I bet he can give us the answers now.

And like I couldn't completely agree there much bc like okay BBC Sherlock does get rather rude but the way she was saying it (particularly in that this is bad tone) I couldn't get behind her and Ive only seen some of the Sherlocks but I've seen the first season of BBC Sherlock years ago and all sorts of.clips since and a couple.of the Granada Sherlock and even the young Sherlock and he didn't come up as rude the way she was saying.so. just uh I've got a mystery to stop pleas ebe idiots somewhere else sorta vibe idk

Walter theories

I love that he could easily be the least liked character of the whole series but just like the producers I'm insisting in his relevance. Is my boy sketchy, murderous, psychotic and a liar? Absolutely, because he is a carbon copy of Misty – the wilderness effect.

Before the wilderness, Misty was already this needy, bullied, lonely girl wanting to prove herself, but the worst thing we know she did was not to help a rat in a pool and stare at it. That is Walter. If he is evil or not depends of what the wilderness  did to Misty.  “Oh but we saw her being nice to Ben and  she did good things  out there therefore that proves Walter is bad”

No, so far he has done everything she has that is not completely unhinged and immoral (minus killing kevyn)

Misty was 100% on touching Ben without his contentment in the cabin, drugging him,  when he rejected her she was mean and I’m pretty sure she made him fell from his crutches at least one. She took advantage of the vulnerability of people. I don’t see Walter doing anything of that even though he could. He stayed at her place for 6 weeks after Natalies death, he saw her walking in super drunk several times, every time Misty tells him to stay away, he goes. Sure he stays around and tries to please Misty with hints and shit but  it’s not the same level of persona invasion.

Walter got a lot of hate bc of the way that he treated the death of Lottie (as a game) and finding her murderer was an excuse to be with Misty… Just like her helping Nat to find Travis, she didn’t give a fuck about Travis death, it was a game and an excuse. I would argue that Travis was way more important to Nat than Lottie to Misty.  (there is also this theory that if Juliette Lewis (old Natalie) hadn’t left the show she would have been killed instead of Lottie, and THEN it would have been more coherent idk). We see Misty attempting to be more like Nat, she wears her clothes, drinks, is self-destructive and mourns in the meantime walter is trying to help her, keeping her house and pet clean, doing his stuff in his own annoying way while obviously Misty rejects it. Just like how it happened with Natalie while she was mourning Travis. Misty “helped” her against her will, inhaled that coke and did a lot of wtf things that were super annoying to Natalie.

Even now that little scene of Walter in his car is giving me Misty trying to be dark, edgy and not taking anyone shit or Misty trying to save Nat from this cultist community. Either that or he is getting himself involved in revenge, and if that's the case, for me here is the likelihood of that revenge

Goes against the yk in a way of protecting Misty. (Gets killed by Shauna) I don't think he is related to Kodi, or Hanna, or any cult. If we have learn anything about the male characters of YK is that they are mostly no ones, disposable or serve for the development of the yk and don't do anything that goes against the yk and if they do they get punished. Adam was never a threat, neither Kevyn, Kodi, or Jeff, even now he is protecting Callie (honorary yj). The only characters who can hurt the YJ are themselves.

 I thought there will be more moments  in walter actions that parallels Misty’s  darkest points in the story, but maybe he will be the version that knows when to stop before things go south, maybe there wont be a blackbox moment, or a crystal moment, or a sacrificing javi to save nat

Her gift to people is just her presence. She'd be the type to occasionally need quiet but wouldn't mind being in comfortable silence with someone she likes. I feel like quality time would be her way of showing she cares for someone.

The only canon part i can mention is that during his conversation with Ashlyn at the school he mentioned how since he moved around a lot he never really had a true bond with anyone.

So Aiden didnt just want someone he could feel attached to, he also wanted to feel cared for. Its a two way street with him.

While I could see him loving physical touch as I doubt he got enough of that as a child and he clearly loves being touchy with people I feel like with what we know I could argue really any love language. He'd probably take anything if it makes him feel cared for.

I found a picture of a chart saying "your love language may show what you lacked as a child" and he checked every box so he's fucked.

I ultimately want to settle with physical touch as he seemed shocked when Ashlyn initiated the hug likely due to being the one to always initiate them. Like above he probably just wants his efforts reciprocated.

I just imagine him being the type to be like "i know you like this" or "this reminded me of you". I feel like he wouldnt be the greatest at expressing it in many other ways so he resorts to getting people things.

Hes also pretty artsy so I can also just imagine him making people little things for them.

— Another give in, she does it ALL THE TIME. Its literally her defining feature. Shes very good with words and likes making others feel better about themselves. Seeing people perk up from her words would be enough to make her own day better.

I imagine she too, like tyler, had to be there for her mom a lot. So she probably learnt it from that experience. I also imagine her want to make people happier stemmed from seeing Tyler slowly lose interest in everything around him and wanting to be able to be the person who could make his day just a bit better.

Though like above I could see taylor doing things she knows mean the most of others. Like the moment she realized Ben likes words of affirmations she made sure to compliment him a bit more. After realizing Ashlyn likes quality time she would find a way to do that while also not overwhelming Ashlyn, say a movie or just going on a walk. Shed make an effort to make people happy based off of what they love the most.

I figure like at first hed be a bit reluctant however I think ultimately it would mean a lot to him to not have to always be rhe one taking care of others but being able to rest for once.

Like idk how to word it but I think it fits him, I could also see MAYBE words of affirmation? since he did want that when Logan Ashlyn and Ben found him but then again I dont blame him he was literally sitting bleeding.

— This one has a question mark since im not sure. Taking care of others has just became nature to him, its his factory settings. Its not something he like goes and does to get people interested its just natural to him.

I dont think its something he'd do specifically to express care, he'd likely be unaware how much it could mean to someone since its just life to him.

Im not too sure what his would actually be MAYBE quality time again similar to Taylors in the sense that he knows just how fast someone can lose their lives so he likely would appreciate someone wanting to actually spend time with him.

Even if he wouldnt admit it.

Day 17 - Echo Art

Oh. My. God. (Rambles incoming)

This was so important that I HAD to schedule it so it posts the moment it becomes January 30th, 2025.

So, I saw this yesterday and initially thought this was really good fanart, BUT APPARENTLY THERE WAS A WHOLE SERIES OF OFFICIAL ART AND I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL ALMOST A FULL 24 HOURS AFTER IT WAS RELEASED, SO I'M A LITTLE LATE TO THE PARTY, OOPSIE. Anyways, I've only seen a few of them but I wanna look into them all eventually. Now, here comes me overanalyzing this thing.

These echo arts are supposed to be how the character sees themselves if I remember right? I tried reading what they were supposed to be and I genuinely didn't understand, but I DO know that apparently these arts won't be fully understood unless we play the game in this entirety. That means I'm not gonna understand this art piece for like 5 years.

That fact, of course, made me scream in the middle of school because I WANNA KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE!! Like, DIANA LOOKS SO HORRIFIED AND/OR DISGUSTED WHILE STARING AT (who I can only assume is) HER PAST SELF??

The first theory that came to mind is that she used to be a bad person, like horrible. That's why she's so nice now, she's working to better herself so she can never become the toxic person she once was.

Another theory is that physically something once happened to her which caused some sort of facial injury? Strange train of thought, I know, but hear me out. She looks absolutely traumatized staring back at herself. The version of herself on the floor is surrounded in darkness, but her face is glowing, while also emitting darkness towards current Diana, which I would assume, if this theory is somehow correct, is supposed to emphasize just how shocked/horrified she really is. This could also be an origin to why she's even a cosmetologist. If some sort of facial injury happened, she likely needed facial reconstruction surgery. It could've scarred her face, which could cause some insecurities. So what does she do? She covers it with makeup to make herself feel better and less insecure. Honestly, I feel like this theory is wrong and I feel more confident in the first one.

And actually, going back to the first one, I feel like, if it's true, that the whole message of Diana's character would be "there are some things that makeup can't cover." Just because you're a good person now doesn't mean you can cover up your past actions, no matter how much you've digressed from what you once were. You'll still be associated with that person you once were, no matter how much you don't wanna be them.

Now that I am seeing that written out, that seems too similar to Wolfgang and idk if they'd take that approach.

There are so many things I can say about this, genuinely!! Like one of my other initial thoughts, besides from the fact I thought it was fanart, was that it resembles the scene of Wolfgang getting electrocuted a lot, at least to me. I think that's what really convinced me it was fanart, because to me I thought somehow that was what Diana was dressed in when that happened??

Idk anymore, I'm very bad when it comes to theorizing and tbh this is a bunch of word vomit because I haven't had the chance to let this out anywhere else. I'd love to hear others' thoughts on this tho, because from the few echo arts I've seen they're just very interesting to me!! LIKE I NEED THE REST OF THIS GAME OUT ALREADY. AND I NEED THIS ART INJECTED INTO MY VEINS.

How did you develop your art style and how do you achieve the color choices of your art? (are you fine with discord dm even tho the server is closed?, im afraid to ask)

Short answer: It's a lot of constant trying to imitate things I like that I see from other peoples' art and what's easy for me to do ( and also art styles just naturally develop as you practice, ofc :L )

VERY long answer (prepare for some old art jumpscares):

It's kinda difficult to say. I think it's safe to say that everyone who's just starting out doesn't necessarily have an "art style" since you're just figuring things out ofc. I think at that point there's two directions someone could go. that really influences how your style develops. I think the best option is to go step by step by learning the fundamentals, drawing from real life, and stylizing from there. Unfortunately I went the "I'm gonna try to copy things that I like :D" route that took way longer lol. Here's two of my earliest pieces where I think it's clear I'm taking influence from something (also two of my earliest sonas yippee! (idk why I made myself white)):

It's still very rough, of course, but I think Pokémon and MLP being some of the first things I tried to imitate laid a pretty big foundation for my art going forward.

A bit later on I started to mash a bit more of Nichijou into my art. I'm not sure if it's too obvious, but I think the eyes and how I started are a bit of a giveaway here.

I think around this time here I was starting to develop things on my own. I still think the Nichijou influence is clear, but I started taking a bit more from just other online artists' works that I liked (e.g. messing with lineart colors, taking inspiration from poses, actually starting to do some shading and effects), which is are still things I do to some capacity now (getting to that later)

So fastforwarding to around now, for the most part I've just been building on what I've been doing and generally just improving my skills. I still tend to take a lot of influence from art that I see around and really like. I don't like to have my style "set in stone", as it were, and I want to feel like I'm always improving with anything I do. Sometimes it backfires since I'll see an artist with a style I like, and I'll try to emulate the aspects that I like the most and I think would mesh well with my current style, but then it kinda looks bad... But! I learn (at least a little bit) some new techniques. Of course, there's also the things I learn that makes drawing easier that seeps into my style too. The biggest example I can think of right now is how I put a slightly thicker outline/stroke/border/whatever on the subjects of some of my drawings. That was developed since it covered up some of my shittier lining whenever I drew on my sketchbook :L I think this timeline I put together a couple years back is a good way to show a gradual evolution of the style. Despite me eventually taking inspiration from different source, there are still a couple details you can spot that are reminiscent of older styles (even if it is the same character). Ofc, 2023 is a lot different since around then I've been trying to break away from my comfort zones and find something that I really click with (which I'm still finding).

As for the colors choices, I never really put much thought into them. I just put down what I think looks nice =) I'm aware of color theory and whatever, but I tend to overthink that stuff and I guess do things a bit to strictly according to the "theory" which really limits my creative freedom so I don't bother much. The only conscious efforts I've made with colors I can think of is that just recently I've been desaturating/darkening my color choices a bit more since it's a LOT lot easier on the eyes (for me at least). idk why it took me this long to figure that out lol Also regarding discord DMs: probably not. Even if I kept them open I'm terrible to contact (just ask any of my friends how long it takes me to respond to any message) :L My social anxiety's been getting worse lately so I'm even less comfortable than usual talking to people I know (let alone people I'm unfamiliar with!!) so sorryyy

Going back to you being allowed, talk about any actor you want irrespective of chronic online stanwars started by strangers online, (cause lets be real they are all peers), I was watching this q&a with Timothee and Saoirse it was actually sweet that Timotheee was complimenting Saoirse working with Tom cause not many ppl know about that one film they did years ago😭.

Pls guys don't let obsessive fans create conspiracy theories about actors they actively stalk support online. Timothee and Tom are friends, and both admire each other. Oftentimes, the beef is with other stans, not the individual remember a life and style mag a while ago created a rumour that they were feuding, and Timothee reps denied that immediately. To me, that's very telling cause usually, his reps don't deny anything that comes about him on that site, especially stuff about his relationship with Kylie. Yes, teams can be shady, but that is just the nature of that industry. Oftentimes, teams can work against the artist/clients cause they have a job on the line and want more money. It's like JLaw having to fire her agents who denied her taking risky roles cause they wanted to be paid through blockbusters. Glen Powell wants to be the next best thing, but he's a fan of Timothee and vice versa....

But then again, if you don't care for either actor, it's okay, lol. I'm mainly a Tom stan but I like Timothee and watch his movies cause he is talented, and it's not that deep even though I think his team is doing the most sometimes but that's just hollywood😭

I think that once fans realize that most actors view each other as PEERS and NOT enemies, fans will come to see that they don't need to have all of these silly stupid fan wars on social media in order to defend their fave. It's all silly nonsense!

And YES! I do remember when Timmy's team shut that rumor down that he and Tom Holland were beefing or competing with each other. He probably thought that was super dumb.🙄

I think if everyone just STOPPED hating on other actors and just viewed them all as "one big happy family" that we can ALL just enjoy, the BETTER life on Twitter would be among these fandoms. That's just my own opinion at least.

As a film lover, I always grew up liking and appreciating a TON of different actors for various reasons. It never even dawned on me that I needed to hate on a particular actor from a different fandom just because. Even when fans of a certain fandom are rude or obsessive, I can easily separate the actor from his/her fandom. I've always been very neutral lol. I don't feel the need to hate other actors just to elevate my faves. That's just not necessary imo.

Btw...I had no idea JLaw's agents were sabotaging her!!! Say WHAAAAAAA???? Omg! 😲 This is the first time I've ever heard of something like this happening. So, they were intentionally NOT even putting her name out there, or making her aware of other film roles aside from blockbusters because they just wanted more money with the blockbuster films? Wow. I'm SO glad she fired them.

A good agent should be working on your behalf and in your favor, and really should be passing everything on to see if you would be interested or not. Granted, when you reach a certain level, I'm sure your agent already knows which roles you just wouldn't be interested in, and which would be a waste of time for you, but to just not even give her solid indie roles to work with due to a fear of not getting enough money?? Oh boy. Yea, FIRED! 😤
