In theory i like the idea that rick is growing and developing as a person. In practice it ends up falling short though, because no one balances him out. rick is getting better while no one else is getting worse, and it causes the whole thing to end up feeling a bit stale. The biggest draw, at least for me, has always been rick and morty's shitty dynamic, but it barely exists anymore because rick has been so watered down.
The ideal solution is literally just to make morty into a bigger asshole. Essentially flipping the main characters' personalities would offer a wide variety of conflict into the show, and would also help keep it "fresh".
Instead it feels the writers are pretending that they can't possibly do anything with morty's character, that they have to keep him the same anxious idiot he was in season one. I've said this before, but it's incredibly frustrating to watch the show have no problem with expanding rick's character while struggling with keeping morty's heavily stagnated characterization consistent. Where rick has space to develop between multiple seasons, morty is constantly forced into one of two boxes (smart/stupid) depending on the episode.

Idia: “Hm? Something is ringing.”
Malleus: “Ah…it’s this fellow.”
Malleus: “Apparently, it’s hungry. Now then, what kind of food should I give it today…”
Idia: “WOAH!!!! THAT’S GAO GAO DRACON-KUN! FIRST GEN!!”
Malleus: “Oh, you know of this?”
Idia: “I know about it, but I played the generation that had color LCDs.”
Idia: “Wow, first generation model. There are still people playing those.”
Malleus: “…Yeah. It broke a few times, but I’ve had it repaired.”
Malleus: “I won’t neglect its maintenance……I will cherish it for a long, long time.”
Idia: “Aaah, if Dracon-kun is well cared for, it will be very happy.”
Malleus: “……Hehehe. I hope everyone feels the same.”
Idia: “Huh? Everyone…?”

rtd woke up one day, thought to himself "me writing the doctor saving everyone by the end of series 3 because the whole earth believed he was the most special boy in the world was kind of an unsatisfying way for me to end that season let me make it up by having a whole episode about people distrusting and hating his guts and he is unable to get across to them that he's not a threat to them and also he's powerless to stop the horrors when they fucking Get Him and then he nearly gets thrown to his death by the people he wants to help and in the end the only reason he's alive is because of the sacrifice of someone whose name he never learns" . and i have nothing else to say other than he was crazy for this one

forever amazed and confused at how often transformers franchise just straight up depicts suicide attempts. like not even considering the superhero trope of "i have to save everyone!!! by choosing to die!!!!!" thing. like. non-allow-yourself-to-die-to-stop-a-thing-from-killing-everyone-immediately type situations. which tbh i wish more ppl talked about but not the point here
like. sure mtmte, a comic abt mentall illness and war, i expected it to be aware of the concept. but its not handled well and mostly used for shock value or "im better now i swear! i have a husband and everything" BUT ITS IN THE KIDS SHOWS TOO??? MY BESTIE G1 RODIMUS?? BEAST WARS DINOBOT???
