Finally finished all ten episodes of Pitch. Started watching the show for Kylie, stayed for the cast and the incredible story. I cannot believe Fox cancelled that show and left so many things unresolved. It should be a rule somewhere that when a show gets cancelled, a finale episode must be shot or in the can that resolves anything left open and unresolved for all of the characters.
It is an absolute crime that we didn't get to see more of this:
or this
or this
or this
And Blip and Evelyn and Oscar and Al and Livan and even Charlie. The whole cast was phenomenal and the story was richly layered. A true ensemble and a treasure trove of impeccable characters. (and compared to Big Sky, Kylie's current show, the showrunner/writing team here knew how to handle episodic arcs in combination with an overhead arc and balancing all of the characters' stories while not diminishing the main protagonist's presence/story line) This should have made the cut, hands down.

The thing for me w/ The Loyal Pin so far is that the surface-level narrative, the on-its-face text, is extremely fun, cute, sexy, visually indulgent, entertaining, etc etc. I'm having a great time.
BUT
The under-the-surface narrative, all the fucking weird power shit between Anin and her whole family and Patt and Pin and the servants, it is so crunchy tasty delicious and I am actively in pain that I don't know or trust that the story is going anywhere with any of it. You know?
When Anin casually abuses her power and everyone in her life praises her for it and calls her brilliant and bold and special and daring, when Patt beats Pin for Anin's choices (playing near a snake Pin LET BITE HER TO PROTECT ANIN) like some kind of whipping girl, when Prik is the most devoted telepathically-connected minion sidekick anyone could ever ask for but can only play tennis if Anin feels like granting her the privilege (+ when Anin friendzoning her is a foregone conclusion by the narrative), ahhhhh there's just SOOO MUCHHHH happening, the possessive ownership Anin feels for Pin is so delicious and Theerapanyakulian, and I do wish that I could just immerse myself in it fully believing it was going somewhere and not just. Existing. Ambiently. As you do in a story about royals and servants and servantfamily.

Something that lowkey bothered me when I reread Stormbringer was Lippman's introduction.
Asagiri was clearly setting up something with this, and I don't know if I've overlooked something or missed it, but as far as we can tell, nothing catastrophic regarding Lippman was ever mentioned after his death.
And it might be that, a few days after that, the whole Guivre fiasco happened that made the media outlets focus on bigger things, but idk.
It would've been interesting to see the uproar Lippman's death actively caused, how the media would have tied him to the mafia, and the public's opinion about it. Or Verlaine being held accountable after being defeated bcs of it. Or how the European division, the one that Verlaine used to work at, would handle being exposed or outed amongst the other messes that occurred.
Or, more interestingly, having Verlaine spare killing Lippman in opposition to the others because he's aware of this very threat. :)

the drunk driving made it worse but it was the AGGRESSIVE RECKLESS driving that was fatal - passing at speed on the right because he thought the car in front was trying to prevent him passing?? macho road rage bullshit that people do stone fucking sober every god damned day, the way you can risk your life and those of everyone around you to shave 11 seconds off your drive time or be the first fucking idiot to reach the god damned red light anyway
almost certain this sack of shit drove like that, drunk or sober - this wasn't a veered off the road or lost control drunk driving thing, more like typical American shitheaded entitled driving made worse by booze
what a stupid fucking pointless wasteful reason for two human beings to be killed and their friends and families' lives to be shattered
RIP Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau

What if.
There's a parallel to this:
and it's Camila with Hunter after he wins his first flyer derby match, after all (and I mean, all) the traumatic stuff from Hollow Mind onwards happened.
Because Nocedas are way too stubborn to let anything get them down. And holy Titan do I want him to be flooded with so much love like this

I'll never understand how some fans are so incredibly willing to just be okay with "it happened in a timeskip" to excuse bad writing lol. Like "oh yeah these two characters who have been enemies for like four seasons of a TV show had their entire reconciliation OFF SCREEN in the time skip between episodes right at the end so it works" or "oh yeah this character who was left basically broken had their entire growth and development where they came to terms with the thing that broke them in the time skip so it works" kind of stuff. Like that's literally the ENTIRE emotional climax of a story that's been building for a while and you're FINE with not getting to actually SEE IT???
Can't relate.

Maybe Station 19 was like an experimental cubist painting.
There were too many stories to be told and too many people trying to tell them, from too many perspectives, with too many styles…
Each viewer saw a different picture.
It was the show that tried to capture the zeitgeist and represent the under-represented. Also the show that often struggled. With the tones and textures. With representing w/o tokenizing. B/w laughing with and laughing at. B/w realism and romanticizing. B/w deliberate and arbitrary. B/w educating and entertaining. B/w what they consider profane and sacrosanct.
At times, it touched our hearts deeply. At times, it frustrated us to no end.
Not every story was given the respect, sensitivity and intricacy it was due.
One moment could lead to a profound understanding of an aspect of a lived life some of us had never known; while the next could be a moment that was beyond confounding - about an aspect of ourselves that made us feel slighted, diminished and even erased.
It had often been an exercise in empathy to find our common humanity at the intersectionality of stories. Yet, the scale of empathy often skewed too far in favor of some characters with the differing standards, narrative frames and plot armors. Ironically yet reasonably turning people off these very characters they wanted people to root for. A persistent dissonance and disconnect.
But it was also the show that didn’t shy away from the ugly, the raw, the uncomfortable and messy parts of our shared human experience. The tribulations of oppression. The perils of ambition. The tests of morality. The trials of friendship and love. That we would make mistakes, but we could also make amends. That we're not defined by our worst. That our best lives could still be in front of us despite the current struggles. That sometimes life sucks but having your people with you makes it more bearable.
I would think it an interesting journey for the diversity of people behind, on, and in front of the screen. The evolving stories, evolving characters, evolving storytellers, an evolving fandom - all amidst an evolving media landscape.
It was probably not an easy show to make. The show had a bewilderingly lack of support from abc or shondaland. Diversity seemed to be both good for promotion (when there was any) and the reason for the prejudice against it.
Just as it had not been an easy show to watch - so biased, inconsistent and self-contradictory. Like when they kept telling us about the family spirit and deep friendships yet somehow spent more time showing otherwise. Or when the writing of systemic sexism was somehow inherently sexist.
Personally, I don’t think characters belong to the writers alone. Besides the usual constraints, the characters were often adjusted back and forth to fit the plots. We’ve also learnt how network execs' dislikes, writers’ personal experiences were factored into the stories. I fully respect the writers’ artistic rights. But actors who embodied the characters for years have a unique understanding too. Viewers also have their personal takes about what were true to characters. It's ok to agree to disagree.
There had been sparks of brilliance, but often extinguished too soon. It has been confounding how the greys-verse did not capitalise on its vast potential, esp. S19. Even while both shows share a show-runner. Grey's anatomy could have lent its scale while Station 19 could have injected renewed energy back into its mothership. Both shows could have been better for it.
Although the characters have the foundation of distinct and interesting backstories, their development often did not fully utilise the narrative potential and the talents of the cast. I’m sure the crew was also competent and hardworking. But somehow some elements b/w n within the shows seemed to just cancel each other out instead of amplifying their impact. IMO 704 and 709 were a few exceptions.
But I'll always be glad S19 existed and we got a S7. I believe they had tried their best to wrap up and give closure to everyone invested in the show. I truly appreciated the hard work given the circumstances even when I personally didn't agree with some takes.
In the end, I really do want to remember it as the show with heart, the show that made us laugh and cry and the show that tried. The show that's unique - in both its merits and flaws. I’ll definitely miss the characters. One last time - 19!

So I finished the Nightmare at Green Lake Event
It was pretty cool, can’t say i like it more than 1.3 and 1.6’s event stories but it was still pretty good overall. Plot was tightly written, had decent mysteries surrounding the setting, and overall kept me invested throughout the story.
Jessica’s backstory was neat, still don’t forgive her for ruining my pity on that Build- A- Banner back in 1.6 but I found her to be pretty sympathetic as a character. Though I gotta be honest; I already saw the twist with her being the deer behind the slaughter coming a mile away. I don’t consider this to be a detriment because shock value doesn’t inherently translate to good story telling, but it was just a tiny bit predictable.
Blonney was also ok here. To me she’s kind of the girl who walked so Desert Flannel could run, but still decently entertaining. She also has this arc where she overcomes her internalized racism against arcanists caused by pressure from society. I really like the idea of it but it felt pretty rushed in my opinion. Like, she literally has internalized bigotry and has had to suppress who she really is because of societal pressures for almost her whole LIFE, yet one conversation from a lady she met in one day was able to change that?? I’m sorry but that’s a little much for my suspension of disbelief. The arc itself wasn’t bad, but that one part kinda lowers my opinion about it. Oh well, at least her relationship with Jessica was cute.
Tooth Fairy and Horrorpedia were easily my favorite characters here. Tooth Fairy’s calming yet creepy vibe was great and bounced off the personalities of the other characters really well. I also like her role in Blonney’s character arc, with her questioning and deconstructing Blonney’s view on herself as an arcanist. Still a bit rushed but for what it’s worth, it works. Also please give this woman her teeth, she’s been searching the whole story yet never found any :(
Horrorpedia on the other hand was just a treat. I loved his enthusiasm of horror movies and how he applies their logic to real life, I loved his dynamic with Blonney with him being a clueless, socially inept idiot and Blonney just FUMING at him for ruining her camera and insulting her movie project, it makes for wonderful character interactions with him. Sure, he can get a little annoying from time to time but look at him! He’s literally just a guy!
Overall, i liked this event. Not my favorite story from Reverse but still pretty fun :)

*Shakes you like a marionette* THANK YOU! You get it! I've been trying to tell people for -so long- that ARR (and post) is purposely taking its time to build up the characters, the story, the -entire world- that you're going to spend the next who-knows-how-many-hours/days/weeks/months exploring and adventuring and experiencing and -feeling- through! It might not be "the best paced", but god damn it if I still don't love all the random asides and non-plot moments that just -shapes everything-
