I been talking to a lot of ppl w cats lately (I volunteer at an animal shelter) and I didn’t know this needed to be said but

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT DECLAW YOUR CAT.

Declawing sounds very normal to people who aren’t educated on it so let me show you what it actually is.

As you might notice from the diagram, the claw is attached to a small bone at the very end of a cat’s paw. They are fused to this bone, which on a human hand would be where your last knuckle is (the one right before your nail). When someone gets a cat declawed, they aren’t just removing the claw.

The entire last digit of the cat’s paw is removed. (See below)

This severely impedes the cat’s ability to balance itself, is extremely painful for them, and can make the cat extremely aggressive because it no longer has one of its main defense mechanisms! It can also cause many other medical issues down the line including infection, necrosis, and some cats are never able to walk correctly again. Most cats that have this done never fully recover from the procedure and are in constant chronic pain.

It is extremely inhumane and is illegal in only two states at the time I’m writing this!!!! (Maryland and New York) Cats should only have this procedure if it is a life or death situation, never just because someone finds a cat being a cat inconvenient for them. Don’t get a cat if you don’t want to be scratched or have some ruined furniture. If you want more information on this topic, I’d recommend Jackson Galaxy’s YouTube video on it, and to read up on some articles I will link in the comments.

I know I don’t usually post about these types of things, but it’s made me extremely angry to hear people mention getting their cats declawed so flippantly as if it doesn’t ruin the cat’s life, and always for an asinine reason like “they scratched my couch” or “they scratch my kids” THOSE ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A CAT OWNER. Treat your kids and peers to treat animals with respect, or don’t get a cat.

On my last gender clinic appointment I got discharged to the GP and so now they're prescribing my HRT and I got a copy of the letter saying this dated the 21st of January. So I am picking up my last refill of that Saturday, and thus today I called to be like "hey so. when I need this again next month what do I do? It is not on my repeats." And the nurse was like.......oh yeah that's in your file let me just bring that to the doctor's attention....that will be a little while, sorry.... Which is EXACTLY what I thought was going to happen so I feel quite triumphant about my choice to get a hold of them a month early. Good job me for accurately predicting administrative gaps.

And it's not exactly that all fans ever want linear games (some do~) Most people I've spoken to who didn't like BoTW, simply wanted a game with a bit more depth and energy put into the story and the world.

While I don't fully agree on that front with BoTW (personally I think BoTW was one of the most concise LoZ games to date) ToTK only amplifies BoTW's weaknesses, rather than its stengths.

I understand the desire to expand on Hyrule, to make a truly vast and vibrant world, flush with exploration. Now with next-gen consoles and better hardware, there's a lot more opportunity for these types of games to take front and centre.

But at the same time, large procedurally generated landscapes can often break immersion while feeling bleak and unnatural. Even if landscapes are generated to be as natural as possible, worlds are as much a character, as well...the characters. (I could go on a whole tangent about design here, but I digress..)

I think what people miss from LoZ titles, is the human touch and energy invested into making Hyrule, feel like a place, rather than an idea.

BoTW wasn't perfect, but it was their first swing at this type of world and gameplay. I do think it can be improved on, and honestly, I was expecting progress on that front in ToTK.

But given that ToTK (past the demo lmao) was nothing more than a 100$ expansion on BoTW...I'm not feeling too confident myself moving forward with these open-world Zelda games.

Despite being linear games, growing up OOT and WW felt open world enough for me. LttP was a super fun play that had both a linear story line, and open world possibilities while giving the player full access to all the dungeons and tools off the bat.

If sacrificing genuine, thoughtful, world-building and design is what it means to have a truly open world Hyrule...I kind of don't want it either.

I've booked both girls in to be spayed. Marcie is next week and Topaz is in a month. I don't know why I'm nervous about it when in Australia it's a completely routine procedure. 😬

I am choosing to spay Marcie now because she is 5, I have no intentions to breed her, and I think it's about the right time in terms of lowering the risk of various cancers and other medical issues.

I am choosing to spay Topaz next month because she is definitely not a breeding candidate for the program she's from, she'll be 20 months next month and has already had two heats now, and she may as well go on the Associate Register for Dogs Australia (which requires desexing). I thought about registering her on the Sporting Register through the Koolie Club of Australia (where she could stay intact) but that didn't sit right with me because they actually ask you not to register mixed breeds, even though Topaz is part koolie and it would probably go through. So it feels more "ethical" to go with the Associate Register, given I plan to do sports with her and she's not for breeding, and I figure spaying now is better as we are in the quiet season with plenty of time for recovery.

re Obi-Wan and ensuring his self is cared for enough to allow him to actual do his duties. THANK YOU! My greatest frustration has always been reading about Obi-Wan in the clone wars ignoring significant injuries etc. and doing back flips to keep out of the med bay. I just don't believe he would ever set and example like that or put himself in a position where his lack of self-care puts others in danger. Don't get me wrong sometimes I do like reading that though...

the medbay thing!! oooh the medbay thing drives me absolutely bananas!! it’s one of those things that i like. DO enjoy reading from characters for Angst reasons, and like. COULD make sense for Obi-Wan especially taking his Legends background into account, but it just doesn’t fit what we actually see of him in movies and TCW canon? and it’s become this wildly widely accepted fanon so it’s EVERYWHERE so it's no longer authors (and artists) exploring an interesting headcanon, it's just accepted as canon, and it gets boring and contrived real fast. there are so many other ways to make Obi-Wan angsty, and so many other ways of making injury and illness angsty, that it just seems... yeah contrived to paste this characterisation onto Obi-Wan, especially since it seems in direct contradiction to his character as we see it in high canon. almost like hmmm people (including me, early in my star wars writing) are so used to "hating medical" as a trait for their blorbos that it just feels natural to apply it to Mr. Angst himself? that's certainly why i did it

ALL THIS TO SAY write and explore whatever you want!! engage with fanon and canon how you want!! it’s all valid and i am 500% about engaging with media how you want to, regardless of how "in character" something is. i will never knock someone for playing with fiction the "wrong" way

but boy howdy do i also have some Peeves. this one is far far far from a deal breaker when reading btw, if it's not the focus of the story; it just bothers me that it’s the default especially when it seems to contradict Obi-Wan’s actual character. and there are places hiding injuries makes a lot of sense!! (the ground between unstoppable force and immovable object by des_pudels_kern comes to mind! is also such a good, interesting look into Cody and Obi-Wan’s early working relationship, i highly recommended this fic)
