The love of my life Ivy got to be my second redesign victim, rant time!!!!

I haven't changed up her backstory too much from the usual Pamela Isley is a botany student who is groomed by her professor who then uses her as a human test subject before evading the authorities leaving her traumatized and more plant than human. She then flees to Gotham City and takes up the name Poison Ivy. So onto her design.

Not much to say about her pre-Ivy she was a pretty happy and naive person with a love for plants. She has naturally curly hair that's pretty long but almost always tied up, and her wardrobe consists of greens and warm colours. As Ivy her skin is green her hair is a much more unnatural red, the whites of her eyes are a yellow-green and her eyes which were once brown are now green. Her body is often covered in plants and fungi that are essentially an extension of herself, these plants can move and change and what plants cover her body often depend on the season. The clothes she is depicted wearing are also included in those plants. She can essentially reabsorb the plants into her skin which she only really does in Arkham or if she is wearing normal clothes. As Ivy she is prone to violent mood swings, has a lack of empathy with little care for humans specifically men and has no problem killing people. She shows what could be described as affection to very few people, Harley being one of these. The only thing she shows any positive emotion and love towards being plants. Also she has an internal conflict about the whole being both plant and human thing and struggles with her humanity. She's incredibly good at manipulating others although often relies on pheromones to do so. As is shown with her Arkham design if she doesn't get sunlight, nutrients, all the shit plants need she physically wilts, essentially like an actual plant would, her skin becoming paler and dead looking and her hair flattening. In Arkham she is put in a straight jacket due to her violent tendencies and if she's near other people she is forced to wear a mask (think Hannibal) over her mouth due to her toxic kiss (technically her skins toxic too but ya know that's pretty covered and usually how she fatally doses people is by kissing them). Onto the personal details, she's an aroace lesbian, she's friends with the Sirens and that's about it although she will begrudgingly work with Batman if necessary, and is what I can only describe as frenemies with The Riddler. She is friends with Scarecrow though. She's dating Harley although their relationship is nowhere near "normal" and not particularly healthy although it's as healthy as it will be for two criminals who frequent Arkham Asylum. I would like to note she initially couldn't control plants, she developed that ability over time.

Sorry if you have already talked about this but do you think Dazai’s bandages are to cover sh scars or something like that or something else like a traumatic injury. I have always assumed it was sh but my friend pointed out that he has said repeatedly he doesn’t like pain. Idk but thoughts would be appreciated :)

CW for Dazai-typical suicide & self harm mentions

The fact that Dazai's bandages are such an obvious part of his character design, yet are rarely discussed, is absolutely intentional. As far as I remember, they're never even mentioned in the anime (except for moments such as when Chuuya calls him a walking waste of bandages), so it makes a lot of sense for everyone to be curious about what lies underneath.

Most people's minds go directly to self-harm scars, because duh, Osamu Dazai is the poster boy for mental illness. But then we think, wait... he doesn't like pain? He bitches and moans about it so much, in fact, that it casts a lot of doubt over the idea, and we end up back at square one.

Could it be because of No Longer Human? So he doesn't accidentally touch someone and activate his ability? This is honestly one of my favourite headcanons ever, and very plausible, considering that we don't actually know all that much about how NLH works... like why is it that Dazai can't control when it activates, for example? Everyone else can activate and subdue theirs, so it's got to have something to do with the fact that NLH is an anti-ability.

ANYWAY. Despite all this, there is actually an explanation of what he's hiding under there! It exists within the first few pages of Dark Era, but wasn't included in the anime adaptation. It's such an offhanded, throwaway thing, I don't blame people for missing it (side note: I wanna take the opportunity to remind you that Dark Era is mostly written from Oda's perspective!)

So yes, this is solid proof that there are scars he's hiding under there, but the question then becomes how he got them. We get a few examples on the following page:

Now, this is so ridiculous it's funny, and teetering on the edge of impracticality. If you've read No Longer Human, you'll immediately recognise this as clowning- Dazai is purposefully acting this way to detract from the seriousness of the situation. While yes, he's talking about serious injuries, and even admits to trying to kill himself, he does it in such a way that you just want to laugh.

So can we take these claims seriously? Is Dazai telling the full truth? There's no way for us to know, at this stage. But here are our options:

He is telling the truth, nothing more or less

He's partially telling the truth: owning up to the injuries, but not exactly how he got them

He's lying about the injuries and how he got them

Honestly, I think we can write off the third option, because the way Oda talks about his scars in the beginning makes me think he's perhaps seen some of them before. This makes sense when we consider The Day I Picked Up Dazai, in particular.

There's also something to be said about the nature of Dazai's job; I think it'd be remis of me not to mention it when Oda does. How much is he actually expected to put himself in harm's way? How much unnecessary danger does he put himself in- how much of this is actually self-harm? We may never know, but it's interesting to think about!

One thing I omitted from my Faust design ramble, because it's Very Silly, is I wonder what happened to his glasses from the Dr. Baldhead design-

Option A, Faust doesn't need glasses and it was a part of the Baldhead persona like the outfit he wore. Could be true, but it feels unlikely.

Option B, Faust does need glasses and is wearing them underneath the paper bag. This seems a bit impractical, but not impossible to make work.

Option C, Faust does need glasses and is straight up not wearing them- getting hit by a door or rammed in the shins by a wheelchair is purely accidental he Cannot See. This is my favourite interpretation.

Critiquing my own old designs for a transformation

Hi! So, a while back, @devilheartsblog had a fic idea that has since been lost into the mists of stuff that was very exciting at the time, and still is, but is sadly probably never going to claw its way to life, but in relation to that idea, we needed an ice-themed transformation (that wasn’t Lovix). So, I pitched the name ‘Glacix’, and came up with some designs! This was months ago, and I recently looked at the designs again, and I realised that, as much as I’d love to look and say, ‘Oh, wow, I’m a design genius and Rainbow should hire me today,’ I can’t. My reactions to my designs range from ‘Oh, I love that!’ to ‘Oh, why did I do this?!’ So, I decided to make a post showing the designs and critiquing them. I’m gonna put a ‘keep reading’, because otherwise this is gonna be way too long.

Bloom:

9/10. I’m actually in love with this. This was the first one I designed, and I was working out the style of the transformation, so I was a bit freer with her look, since I hadn’t made any guidelines for the form yet. The blue and orange look really good on her, and I’m in love with the braid! I designed the form with a figure-skater aesthetic, hence the little skirt, the tights, and, my favourite, the skate heels! They’re probably super impractical, but Butterflix got away with crazy heels, so I’m going with this. My only issue with this design is that her wings are pretty basic, even though the form is meant to be around base level in terms of power, so they shouldn’t be too complicated, but they’re the same as all the other Glacix wings, just a different colour, which I’d be complaining about if this was in the show, so I’m marking this look down for.

Musa:

8/10. I like it, I like it a lot, but…something about it just feels pretty disjointed. The skirt doesn’t feel in-keeping with the skater look, and she’s definitely missing some earmuffs/headphones. I like her braids, but they feel like they could be more interesting. But I love the red and purple colour scheme! Musa looks really good in it. Love the pigtails, and the black gloves, and the skate heels having musical note details is really nice. Again, the wings, but I have that issue with everyone.

Stella:

7/10. The oranges blend together, and the lighter orange blends into her hair, which could maybe be more interesting? The blue is kinda stark, but I do really like it. Love the knee-high boots, and I like the waist, but I have mixed feelings on the sleeves. The skirt is good. I’m starting to think this form might have looked good with coloured streaks in the girls’ hair. Her skates are…a bit off.

Flora:

7/10. It’s so pretty, and the twin braids are so cute, though they start too high on her head, but…it’s too simple. And the colours feel too pastel, and they give me a childish vibe. She has a bit of a ballerina feel, which I guess I like, but I don’t know, the look is too simple, and the colours are dancing on the line between working and not. She just has nothing that stands out, and Flora needs to get some attention.

Tecna:

10/10! Maybe it’s conceited to give your own design full marks, but I can’t help it! I love this! Even the samey wings work here! They’re so sharp and angular, and the stark colour scheme makes her stand out, and I’m so in love with the two little buns! Her skates are so sharp and vibrant, and it all just feels very Tecna. So proud of this one. This is probably the only one where I’d change absolutely nothing.

Aisha:

3/10. Gaaah, I feel so horrible! Aisha’s is just…oh, what did I do to my girl?! The colours don’t work, the boots make zero sense, the skirt is just a testament to me trying to find seven ways to draw a figure skater skirt… Oh, Aisha, I’m so sorry. And her hair, while pretty, feels like it could have been so much more! Go crazy with braids! Don’t just take her original hairstyle and braid the front bits back! I do like the wave details on her skates, and I actually quite like her top, though I don’t love it. All in all, I think I owe Aisha an apology. This…this is not good.

Roxy:

4/10. Again, I owe a Winx an apology. Why is it so pink?!? And it clashes! Badly! The colours aren’t good… Pink isn’t even Roxy’s colour! Not really. And not this much… Roxy should be in green, which I guess she is, and maybe purple. I like her in teal, too. She’d suit Aisha’s design better. On the plus side, I like the warrior vibes I get from her hair, and, colour aside, I actually love her boots. They’re awesome. Her top is pretty good, and her skirt is alright. I actually like Aisha’a skirt better. The gloves being so long is pretty cool, but I’m left confused if they’re gloves or just the sleeves of her top.

So, overall, I like the form, I think it’s cute, and I think it’s definitely better than Butterflix, but I don’t think it’d place highly on a transformation ranking. It needs individual wings, and the designs need work. But I did have fun designing it, then critiquing it later! What did you think?

So we all have issues with the character designs of the show. But what are some designs or design choices that especially irk you? For example, I hate how Frosta wears a heavy coat 24/7, or how I just hate Mermista’s design for a multitude of reasons.

ooo boy. yeah, there's a lot i dislike about the character designs.

adora wearing her horde uniform even after joining the alliance. they really couldn't give her a different attire? especially since being in the horde has been a traumatic experience that she was trying to reject and move on from. nate said that “the uniform gave her purpose” but the point of her arc should have been about her finding her own purpose, instead of still somehow being loyal to the horde. in my opinion, they should have given her an outfit change in s4, after she stands up to catra and cuts the last tie she had with the horde. also, i think i mentioned this before but i feel like they should have added something to her character design to make the distinction that she's not from etheria. i know this is what she looks like in OG she-ra too but if they could redesign the other characters, why make adora look almost the same as the OG? why not try something new? it would have been interesting if she had something unusual in her appearance that indicated she was a first one.

perfuma's entire design. idk why but her hair especially just looks off to me. the hairline looks weird and the way her hair is slicked back but suddenly has a lot of volume to the back. i feel like they could have given her some bangs or a different parting. her robe/cape thing also just looks incredibly impractical, i'm surprised it doesn't get caught on things, especially when she's fighting.

mermista is supposed to be a mermaid, yet we only see like two instances of her with a tail, one of which is her just sulking in a bathtub. they should have included her mermaid form a lot more, considering that's an important part of who she is.

bow. just bow in general. i like the crop top, it's cute. but the weird armor thing on one of his shoulders confuses me. what purpose does it serve? and his hair looks like a wig. it just looks unnatural, they could have put in a bit more work to make it look like actual hair. also he deserved an outfit change, he's supposed to be one of the main characters, yet he's treated worse than the princesses. and that's saying something.

the funny thing is that there were a lot of side characters in this show who had better character designs than the main characters. a bunch of the characters at the princess prom looked really interesting, huntara looked really cool, and the star siblings probably had some of my favourite character designs ever. idk why they didn't put that much effort into our main characters.

Not quite sure which mag to do next, might cover my favourite outfits from Choco’s Book. I have a whole selection of all my favourite mori outfits already saved, so shouldn’t be too taxing!

I’m not usually the biggest fan of all white mori outfits, but I am quite fond of this particular shoot. The way colour bounces off of neutral tones is something I love to see in pictures.

The outfit itself has elements that i really enjoy, I’m quite fond of an impractically long thin scarf, recently found one myself that I quite love, and the way it creates a streamline block creates the appearance of more layers than are actually there. ◡̈ It’s quite economical, and couldn’t be done without a monotone pallet, and the low contrast of white also helps.

I also really like the embroidery on the rim of the boots. Little details are really lovely.

Jeans with mori!! Jeans with mori!! I just genuinely love jeans with mori. It’s a really interesting silhouette that maintains the a-like flow without sacrificing on comfort.

I also really like the particular colour of these washed out jeans, they’ve got a slight indigo lilt that pairs well with the whimsical pallets that you often find in magazine mori. (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.ﾟ

Another big spread, I’m awfully fond of this sort of graphic design. It’s all cluttered but placed well like a collection in a draw that’s been closed and opened countless times, shifting items about, still in their place but slightly askew. It’s just fun to mull over all the outfits.

There seems to be a strong pallet in this mag, Valon always delivers, and I love the pairing of oilseed yellow and cornflower blue. (੭˃ᴗ˂)੭

I love the texture of this specific outfit, the subtle check patterns on both the pants and the vest, the matte leather of the shoes with that slight purple hue, and the slightly sheer light puffy sleeves. Here is updated colour design for RHD au Alastor. He became very purple

And here are notes on his design!

The reason why he became more purple is because contracts cause demons to shift their forms under influence of owner of their soul. Therefore Velvette's purple affected/infected Alastor's red and magenta (?) of his hair.

I am of the opinion that powerful demons and overlords can afford to wear less practical for their demonic traits clothing because they can defend themselves just fine without using everything in their arsenal. Other demographic that would wear impractical clothes are those under protection of powerful demons and expectation to look specific way, like actors and models. Average demon cannot afford that luxury, and so have to adapt their clothes to their demonic traits. Therefore, no shoes for Alastor, because he is no longer an overlord and has to use more things to his advantage. He has leg wrap things though.

Alastor, without his intimidation, is really pretty and cute, let's be honest. In fact, this prettiness and cuteness is what caused Velvette to essentially snatch him under Vox's non-existent nose. Because of that, Alastor can't hide his more cute aspects of his appearance, like his tail.

Even worse, under contract's influence, new cute traits started to appear, like fawn spot-like freckles.

The hair was cause of a lot of yelling, after Velvette learned that he has been straightening it almost every day for over 80 years.

High-waisted swing pants and bishop sleeves on Alastor is my favourite type of look, that would be the truth. In lore though, there is some gender fuckery that's going on with Alastor, because he quite literally wears what women wore (if they were to wear pants that were not workwear) in 1920s and 1930s.

The bowtie is actually ascot tie, tied in what is called a strawberry knot. It also has a little deer head tie pin.

Cane is a fashion accessory, but microphone is a conduit of power that is no longer Alastor's. So his microphone was morphed into a cane.

His eyesight was actually aided by his powers, and now, with most of the powers gone, he actually needs prescription glasses. They sit on his nose and have beaded chain looping around his neck, as to not lose them.

Make up is part of being a model, and while the make up stylist that works with Alastor on set is fine with being occasionally eaten, Alastor kinda developed a habit of doing some of make up himself, just to avoid unnecessary touches from others. (And here is where the vintage vanity compacts rabbit hole started)

The ponytail is stylish, and hair bow is cute, that's just it

You would ask, how can Alastor be a model if he cannot appear on camera? Well, he probably can appear on film photographs, shown by that photo with Vox. Therefore the modelling photoshoot would be made initially using early 20th century film cameras, which would be then digitised and posted on the Internet. Polaroids work too, weirdly enough, but not the modern ones that are more digitised

I have so many conflicting ideas about Hazbin/Helluva, where I can't ever join the hate watching crowd because I still, to an extent, enjoy the show if only for its potential. The most recent music video kind of cemented this for me, because... I really liked it. I don't want to feel bad for liking it, because that's silly and separating art from the artist is indeed a thing, but knowing what goes on behind the scenes... it's a bit tricky to reconcile with.

Stolas' songs (You'll be Okay, Owl in a Cage, Look my Way - even though that last one wasn't written by Sam Haft) have always been my favourites, and if I'm being frank, the only ones I've liked. I really like his character design too. Even now I'm uncertain about admitting that because so many people who send in asks to you rag on about how ugly Viv's character designs are, and while I do think they're confusing and impractical I have never considered them "ugly". Maybe I'm writing this so if anyone else feels this way they don't feel so alone? Not being a part of any sort of crowd is a bit of a terrifying place, even if it is ultimately a good thing.

I have ideas for possible Helluva and Hazbin fanworks but I'm scared to do anything about them because, with the creepy adolesent mob mentality the fandom seems to have, I'm afraid I would look as though I'm promoting the show, when I really just got inspired by, again, the potential. I don't want to write out a whole long explanation (that no-one will read) detailing my thoughts on the series and Viv because I might get taken the wrong way, and saying zilch and staying silent seems like the best option and yet also just as poor of a choice.

On a final note, and this is just whishful thinking of a better universe, but I think Hazbin and Helluva would have been a lot more successful and potentially less controversial if it had done the same thing as Daria Cohen, where each "episode" was a music video (because I honestly got more whole enjoyment out of the Look My Way animation than I have out of like, the whole of Season 2), and the whole entire thing could have been told through song (allowing for the more abstract imagery that Viv seems to have a better grasp of while also keeping the projects possibly more manageable). Obviously this would demote it purely to a passion project because she wouldn't be making nearly as much money off of it... which, when you think about it, is probably a good thing anyway.

You don't have to apologize for a thing, Anon! As long as you're not giving her money or making weird excuses for Vivzie herself or named DaniDraws, there's no wrong way to love HH/HB. It's why for every ask I get trashing the designs, two more want to hug these characters close and steal them. We've got people here who hate it all and think it's always been a port-o-toilet fire full of ugly characters, but plenty who genuinely love it -- and I think as more of the fandom sadly hang their heads and come over to the critical side, that number's only going to increase.

Seconding the Daria Cohen bit. I don't know that it would have saved the show in the long run from its biggest problem, which is Viv's cruelty and ego, but a more Vampair or Mystery Skulls Animated-esque setup where each episode is a music video would have played to Viv's strengths and masked her weaknesses.

I'm glad you brought up the topic of your outfits. Listen, you're great and very stylish and I know you don't care about criticism. But I will never understand that thing you wore against Gaara in the Chunin Exams. I know it's a fan favourite, but I've always thought that outfit was awful lol.

Cloaks, on the other hand, really suit you, I think. That's why I don't mind the design of your adult version too much (or the imposter, as you call him, idk what's real anymore). How many cloaks do you have?

I've also been thinking that I haven't seen you wearing much jewelry. If I recall correctly, you wore some necklaces in one of the movies. Do you find jewelry impractical, or is there another reason for not wearing it?

Same thing with sleeveless shirts. You only wore one in your fight against Itachi, I think? :/ You're probably tired of hearing this, but you have beautiful arms. Short sleeves and sleeveless shirts look really nice on you.

Anyways, whatever you wear, you've always made it work for you with grace and elegance. That's the most important thing, I believe. Just wanted to share some thoughts :P

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T LIKE THIS EPIC OUTFIT

Omg anon, you know how comfortable this is when your job involves a lot of jumping and kicking and twirling? This is great for doing all kind of movements without fear of losing your pants in the process! Toilet needs management is another thing, of course, and later with the curse mark and everything this was not convenient anymore. But I think this onesie was phenomenal, but look at it! So original!

I do like cloaks. And ponchos. Not sure how many I have, maybe a dozen. They do look nice on me, right?

You know what I don't like? Cloaks or sweaters that fit tight to the neck. THIS is a no-no:

And I can't stand clothes rubbing my neck, it irritates my skin. It is infuriating and it causes me overwhelming anxiety. See, another clue that that bootlicker is an imposter. I don't like clothes tight to my neck, I never wore turtleneck clothing!

I guess jewellery kind of gets in the way, yeah, no other special reason. And thank you, I know sleeveless clothes look fantastic on me. I mean, look, who else could be this pretty wearing this? I should wear them more often, you are totally right!

I noticed the favorites I picked all had bows and frills! My least favorites were the least frilly ones too and thus boring in comparison, haha!

I actually ended up liking most of the swimsuits! Maaaybe Kyouko and Iroha's were my least favorite, but not enough to minus points.

Kyoko’s doesn’t fit her personality at all. Also, why are they all two pieces?! Most of them are in middle school!

Choosing number 5 was tough because really those first 4 were the only ones i didn't take issue with teenagers wearing. Mami's is almost ok, but the right section of the bottom piece… yeesh.

Kyoko's is the worst one to me thanks to the side ribbons. Unlike everyone else's, Kyoko's don't seem to be purely ornamental, but rather be the strings that are holding the piece up tied together, which worsens the fact that she's wearing a bottom piece with strings in the first place. This girl needs swimwear that doesn't threaten a wardrobe malfunction upon actually being used for swimming!

Honorary mention to Iroha, who only didn't get into the bottom three by virtue of Homura's outfit being bad in most of the same ways, but also looking stupidly impractical for bathing. What do you need the huge ribbon for, maneuvering the water currents? It seems to be long enough to reach at least her ankles, she's definitely going to trip on it at some point. My suspension of disbelief for magical girl outfits doesn't extend to swimwear, clearly.

Tsuruno wins by virtue of it being a cute design, and it being appropriate for a character her age to wear. Madoka was originally going to win, but then i remembered the competition was actually about which design we like more, so despite being a bit less exposed than Tsuruno, she takes second place.

What the hell is ‘everyone’s dead’?? And Papa???? Is that Neuvillette? That was where my mind first went to but there’s the whale as well I guess. I’m living for the Childe lore, I just hope it’s executed well. I’m also really not a fan of Skirk’s design. She just feels like another pale-haired pale-skinned duplicate. Nothing stands out about her. She just looks like 500 mihoyo characters mashed together, I thought she might have something special for her (honestly if someone said her design was AI generated I wouldn’t be surprised). Also, I’m really not a fan of how exposing her clothes are. Genshin’s really just not great on that front for female characters, there’s either an Obligatory Boob Window, or the nonsense Sumeru bikini or an excessively rendered button straining to hold back someone’s shirt despite canonically getting her clothes tailored for herself. But Skirk’s boobs are like,, barely covered in the slightest. I’m not a fan of sex appeal in video games (who would have guessed), especially when it breaks logic’s back to make such impractical clothes ‘make sense’ in canon

But! Furina! I love her clothes! I wish that the design could have changed slightly when the Arkhe alignment switches rather than the white portions turning black, but I really like her clothes. Very classy and regal, I’m glad they went the route they did, I’m a big fan. I’m quite excited, I decided to pull for her since it’s my 18th birthday haha, I hope her character OST is good as well.

Her design is so cool :3 (although those shorts look uncomfortable as heck, I wish they were a bit longer, I feel like sitting down in them would hurt lol).

The story is looking great, Fontaine is absolutely my favourite archon quest so far! I love how all the characters have been characterised, even if I hate them (looking at Wriothesley), Neuvillette and Arlecchino were immediate favourites, Childe of course has always been a character I loved and the hearth siblings + Furina grew on me massively, I didn’t care much about them at the beginning but they all grew on me so much.

There is going to be some proper angst coming up and I am waiting excitedly! The wider plot and lore of Genshin has single handedly been extended to crazy extents by Neuvillette just casually explaining Things That We Definitely Weren’t Supposed To Find Out About.

Team Chandora, redesigned a lil cuz it's kinda insulting how boring their designs are lol. I maintained their colour scheme in clothes but changed it to be different from one another. Ig it was intentional for them to wear similar clothes so I let that be. Idk if ppl even remember them so, there're the characters that battle wild fang once. They also fell victim to Masked Bull's "speech" that embarrassed everyone in Japan, maybe something that people would remeber. They are minor one off characters only to be seen once again as a single frame. This post is basically Indian bladers across generations, cuz, I Indian.

Below is just me overanalyzing and comparing the generations.

So, mfb. Team Chandora. It's the best in terms of giving them a personality and also screentime. The character names are most probably just slightly altered versions of some really popular Indian actors/celebs. Salhan - Salman (Khan); Vridick - Hrithik (Roshan); Aniel - Anil (Kapoor). Neither of their names are familiar to me, nowhere near a common name in India and, mean nothing actually. So this is how I think they named them. Salhan is the hot headed guy I'm assuming. His design is just as basic as you can get. Even tho he's the leader, I can't say much about him. But he's probably a good starting point in building a character. Which will never happen he's a one-off character. They all pretty much have the same height too, so I gave that a variation in my drawing. Vridick is the tallest. Ok, the first time I saw Vridick I thought "wtf is wrong with him". Like, his eyes. I realised it's just a "animators drawing characters weird in low budget episodes" problem, his design is probably the best of the three. Simple yet cute cuz idk if anyone else has noticed it but he has a little catness about him. The eyes and :3 mouth. It's subtle, but it's there. Just because of that he's my favourite of the trio. (I didn't realise this before but I'm a fan of his corresponding celeb lol) Aniel, is the one I was "wtf" about till the very end. His design is just horrible 😭 like, it SHOWS they really tried making a design look even somewhat distinguishable, but failed. Like with them "eyes that are different from the first two" and "hairstyle that isn't short like the first two" naw. So I just redesigned him to have, pretty much the same hairstyle but doesn't reveal the weird hairline. They are all the snake beyblades, cuz India snake charmers yadayada. Tho their designs don't really reflect the snakey thing; so I just added a dupatta/scarf to reflect that. (I originally just added it cuz it looked cool actually).

I can't help but notice how badly they were disregarded in their episode. Like not even in a way that would teach them to not be so full of themselves, but in a way like they are not even considered to be a proper opponent but an obstacle on the way to defeat the protagonist of the series (I'm talking about kyoya). They get overshadowed by kyoya and ginkas battle. It's actually kinda sad (

I ALSO can't help but notice the Blader DJ of India is based on Gandhi. Lmao. It's actually funny asf. Where did the battle between wild and fang and chandora take place, the Taj Mahal? Idk how many people don't know this but Taj Mahal on contrary to it's name is not actually a palace, it's a mausoleum. You would wonder where the tombs went. Even worse they might be battling ON the tombs. lul (edit: I don't really know lmao. The thing they built seemed like it was based on taj mahal. It's actually pretty neat if they designed it themselves. It's beauty :>)

Now on the bsb, first season bsb Indians we meet are the Charming Princes. They have the weirdest designs of all like wha. The unnamed blader is probably the most normal of them all. But the rest, idk what to say. I kinda like Ronnie's glasses ig, even tho they are impractical. Tho they are the weirdest in terms of design, they are the best in terms of beyblades, as in, a team quirk. That their beyblades are as big and heavy as one can be allowed to have. Makes sense cuz they are all princes of some place. They don't get much screentime either, just some guys the bladebreakers defeat. Robin gets overshadowed (annihilated) by Driger coming back to Ray and his rivalry with Lee.

Next in beyburst, it's Dhaula Giri. So, he's the best in like, overall. He's the best in design, he's not bland or weird, just a normal guy from India. He has a normal generic beyblade (same Suoh's original bey). Nothing crazy and I think that's a good thing. Oh oh, and a cute lil Snaker, I just love him for having a snaker just hang out with him, it's goofy but I actually like this idea, it's way better than giving them snake beys. I think he and Hae Jin would be homies. He's not much personality wise, prolly just a nice guy. Not much plot or screentime either but Hae Jin getting over his fear of his snake friend was neat enough. His name is good too, not entirely random names like Robin or Ronnie, or just jumbled celeb names. Out of all, I like him the best. Tho I'll have to say, if I build upon Team Chandora, I'll probably like them more.

i'm rewatching Willow and i still can't comprehend what exactly Elora's weird wrap shawl thing with a hood is. or why it is. why is she wearing THE most impractical garment i've ever laid eyes upon. as the resident Willow textiles expert, what are your thoughts?

Oh I actually fully know the answer to this question!

One: if you would like to better understand the garment construction, there's a detailed knitting pattern with a schematic here. The in-show garment is definitely knitted, but if you're a crocheter this person's got you. What you need to understand is that if there is a thing that has a fandom, and in that thing there is a handknitted garment, viewers who knit have started mentally deconstructing it immediately.

BASICALLY both of these garments are a very long scarf, and then you make a big keyhole, and then more scarf, a second keyhole, then even more scarf. After you have the world's most giant scarf, you add a hood in between the keyholes. The way it's actually worn is with each hole as a sleeve; the trailing ends are then crossed in front of the body and tucked through the sleeves to secure them, which creates the crossed-bodice covering effect.

Two, in terms of practicality, I endured two years of The Improbably Clean White Mother Confesssor Traveling Dress so I know the real answer is that trailing ground-level things look really cool and High Fantasy Femme Heroine on-camera.

However, one of my favourite things to do with this show is take costume elements and read them in-character, because I think it adds another little layer of worldbuilding flavour that really pleases me. So in my heart of hearts:

Elora knit that scarf herself. Or maybe she had help with it, maybe she started knitting it and got frustrated and lost track of rows and couldn't bring herself to rip back, and someone else finished it for her. Either way that scarf was made by hand and it took a long time and so much care. I like to think about Elora packing for a long and dangerous journey and bringing something that makes her feel a little extra loved.

Assuming that scarf is made of wool (which again: idk what it's made of for costuming-sake but in-universe it would be) it is going to be warm as shit. A lovely, densely-knitted wool cape and hood, with the construction designed to allow it to wrap around the whole upper body, would actually be extremely practical for cold, damp nights and staying warm while keeping her arms free to ride or cook. The longer tails you could argue might be practical for wrapping more of the torso or using as a pillow on long nights.

You could also make the case that, while the other members of the party are outfitted with capes and other warm garments, Elora as a kitchen maid might not have had access to something like that. I've talked about this more in my fantasy textile post but basically: woven wool textiles are expensive. Something like that scarf could well be the warmest thing Elora owned, and might have been practical to bring from that perspective as well.

Anyway I love that scarf to bits, it is not something I'll ever make myself but I think it's gorgeous and incredibly distinctive, and the odd construction adds a great bit of Fantasy Je Ne Sais Quoi that is really great.

I don't know if this has been asked or if you've talked about it, - and I do apologize for any clumsiness in how I sound - but do you think Ada would have any complicated feelings regarding how she's been objectified, sexually or otherwise, in-universe, whether it's by someone like Simmons, people she's worked for etc?

i think that the trauma she experienced from simmons is one that's glossed over a lot. especially the people who are like AdA doEsNt hAve AnY tRaUmA

one of my major gripes with a lot of people who "aren't happy with ada's redesign" (characterization, voice, style) etc. (ALSO YOU CAN GO PLAY THE OLD GAMES BTW THEY STILL EXIST. ) bother me a lot

it's 2023. can we not have ada be an actual woman character with likes/desires/dislikes/flaws/and a personality that isn't just "sexy asian spy lady" like have we regressed so much that when capcom literally designed ada to be almost completely covered from her neck down was a way to have her be less sexualized? (btw for the people mad about that, she still has her alt outfit!!! so stfu!!!)

also she was still sexy af??? she doesn't need to be literally naked for her to be sexy. (also there needs to be more talk about consent imo cause i really feel like the way people talk about ada makes me think they do not understand consent)

ada's always used her sex appeal in varying degrees in the games/movies. but it was always to her advantage (almost in a way so that she wasn't objectified unless she wanted it that way)

in regards to her damnation outfit and her re6 outfit, which i argue are still sexy but not as revealing as her re4 outfit. i think that was also capcom in a way to modernize her outfits but still have it be her. like okay i know people love her og re4 outfit, but it makes NO SENSE. and because of it, it's one of my least favourite outfits because of how impractical it is. i don't mind her re4r alt outfit though, it's still fuckin hot but yeah (i still think the og re4 dress is really cunty tho skfbsfjs it's good, it's just not my favourite, og re2 is also one of my least faves, the flats and the dress + leggings combo)

also yeah to go back to her trauma, i really wish we saw what she felt at the end of re2r, especially if she thought she was going to die. like- how traumatic is that. the way she also fell, but took the time to comfort leon before dropping. SHE DIDN'T CARE THAT SHE WAS GONNA FALL, SHE COMFORTED LEON FIRST

we still don't know if she knew that she was going to be fine or not. if she fell into water (which i hc more cause she's not seen with a hookshot prior so i don't really hc that she had it the whole time.)

i see that as a common hc that she had one that wesker gave her so that she could get out and survive the fall, but i just legit think she fucking fell. landed into water or something that made it so she was okay. and then figured out how to get out later. (with the help of wesker)

also it's clear to me that simmons was fucking obsessed with her and she had to literally break ties with him because he was fucking insane, she knew he was a lost cause. i don't think she'd even entertain him at all, to work with him, so it seemed as she cut ties as soon as she could. i do think that he harassed her a lot, but it's also probably traumatic when she discovers that simmons killed hundreds of women to try and clone ada.
