I can look at this and tell there's work to be done, but all-in-all, the sketches for Home are coming along!

Drew these concept sketches a few days ago while ruminating on the idea of magical girl YJ and if I wanted to do cisswap or crossdressing or gender neutrality or what for the boys; still undecided on that but it's a rough draft of concept sketches I just did for funzies so heck it, hahaha, I'll revisit 'em later.

The important thing is I got to stick Kon with being the pink one. 💖

GUYS I THINK IVE FINALLY FIGURED OUT (most of) THE MAGIC SYSTEM

it got mainly four points:

1. the anima

Anima are a portion of one's soul which holds some...magical purpose and also takes the shape of a chimera/animal hybrid of sorts. Every sapient being is born with the potential to awake an anima/an anima 'seed'. An anima that is not yet awaken is called an animus, and most people's souls start in the animus state. There are, however, some individuals that are already born with their anima awaken.

I'm not sure what exactly they do or allow one to do, but I do know that you can make a super cool magical girl transformation to get the traits of your anima. Something something bersek mode something something colateral effects. Also, animas are formed by spare Soul Stuff of dead animals that end up absorbed by human-and-the-like souls so that's why they have animal shapes. More on this on the following points.

2. magic elements (+ cycle + inertia)

Magic works in a cycle shifting between four domains/elements: gas, liquid, solid matter and plasma. (I might add more eventually but for now those are it) Each of these domains has one or two common manifestations, which would be the traditional four elements. (Ie. liquid magic is usually water magic, but not all liquid magic is water magic).

Every mage has an internal magic cycle, which they have to shift in to reach the element they want to use. (Ie. I want to use gas magic but i'm in the liquid domain, so i gotta shift through solid and then plasma and then reach the gas state. It doesn't go backwards). Every cycle also has an 'inertia' which is the resting domain it will always go back to if left to its own devices. (Ie. Your inertia is liquid so you always gotta go from there if you want to shift it. When you shift it will eventually go back to liquid.)

Everything in nature also has its own inertia, but it's not as easy to change it as it is with your internal cycle (you can't expect to turn a lake into ice like that, silly). Using your own magic to manipulate external non-magic things is also a bit tricky because you gotta connect with it first. Like a bluetooth device. More on that on the following points.

3. quintessence

Quintessence is my current name for The Magic Energy (TM). It is the building block of souls and what makes magic Work. Human/humanoid races' souls are especially prone to interacting with outer quintessence and like, absorbing it sometimes, so that's how they get the animas! By absorbing spare quintessence out of the air. It's a natural process. Just a silly property they have.

The ability to absorb quintessence is also directly proportional to a soul's sapience but do not. Do not ask me why (because I have no idea).

Because of that property of absorbing and interacting with outer quintessence, sapient beings can also pour a little bit of their 'Will' into random stuff and make it magic, which allows them to bend stuff like the lake from our previous example, although this is a specific field of magic that requires some specific expertise.

There is also a variant of quintessence, which I'm calling ether for now, which is what the gods are made of. Sapient beings don't even exist in the same plane as ether does. That's why they can't kill gods in this setting. Also because I don't want them to and I make the rules :3

4. magic vs mon-magic stuff

Okay so this is the most confusing aspect of the magic system as of right now.

There is a, uh, distinction between what is mostly made of quintessence and what is mostly made of ether. Everything got a bit of both, though. Except the gods. They are 100% ether.

Magic creates things out of thin void. (Out of quintessence actually, that is present even in the void, but I digress) Magic-created things are automatically magic. Probably only the gods can make them non-magic from that.

So, magic can't mess with ether, so they gotta pour their Will on the non-magic stuff (that is mostly ether) so they can influence it on being made of mostly quintessence, which allows them to bend it.

(Maybe some of the points on this section contratict each other a little bit or don't make much sense. But for now this is it.)

SO THAT'S IT. THIS IS IT FELLAS. WE HAVE A SOLID BASE FOR A MAGIC SYSTEM NOW!!!

Has Bart named his pocket yet? Like I can’t imagine Bart being embarrassed by any name his pocket ends up with so I’m kinda curious what it’ll be. More pocket full of Kon’s please

“Bart?” Helen says from the doorway, frowning in disappointment at him. Bart tries not to spend a subjective year looking at that frown and locks his eyes back on the TV screen instead. “What are you doing? I thought you were getting Match changed.” 

“I tried,” he says, forcing himself not to vibrate in discomfort. “Hey, do you think this is an android or an actual guy in armor?”

Eh might as well post this chunk of the Tim/Thad wip. They're in their early to mid twenties.

Basically the concept is chance encounters, a desire for peace, and bonding through food.
