I'm pursuing far more interesting research with a specialty only I could possibly have: my mind, my body, my soul, my intuition. We know things. I don't know how, but we do. i want them to be friends. i want them to be kindred spirits. i want sam to treat dora's kingdom as a safe heaven, a calm harbor where she can simply be, with no expectations and daunting responsibilities. i want dora to teach sam how to differentiate fabrics by feel alone, how to dance with her eyes closed and all the different messages flowers can tell. i want her to tell sam about that time sir albert made a fool of himself trying to oppose a new economic reform, talk about all the economic, legal and political reforms she's been making in all it's excruciating detail and then to teach her the perfect curtsy.

i want sam to show dora how to tend to a garden. to show her the joy of watching a new life grow and knowing that you did this, that you hands can be gentle and loving, that you were not born to hurt. i want them to recite poetry to each other, to argue and debate and discuss, to find a meaning where the words before were empty, to offer an angle never thought before. i want sam to teach dora how to skate, be it skates, rollerblades or a scateboard, and dora being absolutely terrible at it and yet still doing it everytime they meet because it makes them laugh.

i just think they'd be really good friends, if given a chance.

I’m rlly bad at being able to place my feelings about a lot of stuff but ur mini review of opla is exactly how I feel about it. I rlly liked it as a standalone adaptation (expecting the worst and also things I love being taken out) but seeing everyone rave about it giving it 10/10 feels a bit like we’re all lying to ourselves about how good it is cause we just want it to be the first good anime adaptation.

If you do end up watching the rest though, pls can u give your thoughts on how they excexuted the syrup village arc? On paper it seems fine but it was so bland. Idk if it’s because im generally biased against that arc (Kuro was just not a good villain in my eyes) but it was so boring I zoned out straight away.

i agree! if netflix bebop is the bar, then opla has triumphed and totally outperformed expectations. but does that truly mean it's a 10/10? or that all of its flaws should be brushed aside with "it's an adaptation, so don't think too hard about it"...??

AAA OK SO LIKE my inner Luz is this morally gray entity who only wants to protect Luz period and she’ll side with anyone who says they’ll help, being totally cool with switching sides if it’s convenient. She’s helpful and cooperative at best, actively trying to kill you at worst. When she thinks Luz’s mind is in danger, she morphs from her Luz shape into something close to her true, uncanny form, a gooey space monster, however sometimes she just passively transforms because she forgets to keep up the Luz shape in front of normal people so their minds don’t implode.

Thinking bout Alec and Ray again and the dynamic between the two like the way that Ray presents himself to others as someone who's energetic and cheerful, and he even jokingly introduces himself as "a Ray of sunshine" but he's actually more moon coded instead in a way that he was Alec's light in his darkest night.

And how Alec presents himself as someone who's calm and reserved to the point that others can't help but to rely on him, and when placed side by side with Ray, makes him seem more moon coded but he's actually sun coded in a way that he brightened up Ray's world.

Makes me think a lot bout em.
