Crafting "Hakan's War Manager": A Game Designer's Journey of Struggle and Discovery (Part I)
Check out my latest blog article about my suffering when designing our game "Hakan's War Manager". 🎮📚 Discover the challenges of creating a unique war simulation. #GameDesign #Hakan'sWarManager #ObaGames
Game development is a complex and challenging process that demands creativity, passion, and a deep understanding of the target audience. As a game designer, I embarked on a journey to create a unique simulation game that combines the elements of early Turkish tribe systems and ancient warfare history. This led to the birth of “Hakan’s War Manager,” a game where players assume the role of a…

Using gyroscope-based hand gestures to improve user experience
All content producers are trying to innovate new hooks that grab human attention. The most recent trend is short-form videos (Reels, stories, and Youtube shorts), which are used heavily in almost all social and content apps because of the substantial impact of user interaction.
And this refers to allowing new policies that will enable individuals to post freely on the internet and utilize the available platforms.
The Challenge
Enjoying short-form videos can mean lots of time spent on the internet, which is associated with exhaustion from browsing the internet and, thus, an increasing need for an aiding tool to help the users.
For instance, some people have pain in their thumbs, which lessens their ability to scroll over the screen of an internet-enabled device, which happens after spending a long time using the device. The reflection will explore an innovative tool available for users who use one hand to navigate short-form content.
I believe the gyroscope is a feature that can be a pleasing alternative that offers a new experience for the targeted users.
When does this happen?

Users continuously consume a lot of time while using their mobile devices, specifically for entertainment purposes like watching reels, which causes hand pain, especially for the thumb joint, especially when using the thumb for scrolling up and down for more than one hour.
Navigate Intuitively
The gyroscope is a microdevice that consists of a disc mounted to spin rapidly around an axis (Armenise & Ciminelli, 2020).
The gyroscopes' sensitivity is incredible; it feels like it is activated by your brain, not by your hand!
So moving the hand at a slight angle that is barely noticeable will crawl to reveal more content.
Gyroscope In Mobile Devices
Utilizing a gyroscope to measure the accelerometers' velocity along the x, y, and z axes. It was used in many different techniques and fields, like navigation, wellness, gaming, and many more. Here are some examples:

Gyroscope In Content Browsing
The gyroscope can deliver a seamless experience by tilting the mobile device up and down along the Y axis, which offers the ability to scroll between screen components that have a specific height for each post, regardless of the content type, for the sake of reducing the use of the thumb heavily.

Align in the middle

Content Size
Determining the size of posts is essential to assist hand movement and the gyroscope sensitivity to measure how much the user needs to tilt their hand up or down to jump back and forth between different contents.
The social content depends on the following sizes to represent short video content, whether the label is a reel or any other similar video type. Those types usually have the same time duration, which is less than one minute, and they share the transition experience and functionality.

The findings indicated that 70% of the respondents used Facebook and Instagram, 40% used TikTok, 20% used Snapchat, and 40% used Pinterest. Moreover, 90% enjoyed watching the short-form video (reels)
Furthermore, 40% of the respondents were annoyed by the experience of sliding up and down to reveal content on their favorite social media platform. 70% of participants enjoyed watching short-form videos for more than 2 hours, and the rest were between 1 and 2 hours.
40% feel hand pain from browsing on their mobile devices, which makes them switch the device between hands to continue. Most of the participants enjoy browsing early morning and directly before sleeping.
A significant number of the respondents (80%) stopped using their devices because they were busy. 100% of the respondents use one hand and spend their time on social media applications.
How it works
By linking the gyroscope sensor with the desired content, The gyroscope can respond to changes with a hand gesture. Any movements can be calculated and connected with a particular output on the application.

Thus, the size of the short-form videos is defined, and the gyroscope can move from one video to another without the old-fashioned experience that depends on using the to scroll up/down.
Moreover, by shaking the device, we can refresh the current content and download the newest one, and this is by taking the user to the top of the screen again.

Mastering Isometric & Isomorphic Game Design: A Quickstart Guide to Unlocking 3D Potential in 2D Worlds
We say that: “oh I love that Baldur Gate, let’s crack out an isometric.” Or, “oh, digging this Final Fantasy Tactics stuff, let’s do that sideways angle thing.” But what does that mean? Let’s break it down mathematical. T:(X,∥⋅∥X)→(Y,∥⋅∥Y) is a isometric isomorphism if it is a linear isomorphism, and it is an isometry, that is ∥T(x)∥Y=∥x∥X∀x∈X; T:(X,∥⋅∥X)→(Y,∥⋅∥Y) is a topological…

The Witch of Torrential Sorrow (MementoMori)
Here I have drawn Rusalka, the third Witch of Qlipha aka The Witch of Torrential Sorrow.
Her backstory is that she was a very sick girl who was thrown into a lake as a sacrifice by her older brother, where she lay for an entire century! Yikes. In retaliation, she drowns the Kingdom of Chekkos with her tears- aka The Curse of Rain. But don’t worry, she gets saved and her Curse of Rain finally ends.
But here, she’s in the successor’s doorway, entering his mansion after a long rainy day- her parasol is all shut so no bad luck. Plus, she’s happy! Yay!
I love her design, but my biggest pet peeve is that her artwork was the only reference I had- I needed to use fanart on Pixiv so I could draw her fully; but this is the best I could do.

some more thoughts regarding Palworld
I'm actually beginning to wonder if the Pals that are so similar to Pokemon can be traced back to a freelancer or two. lots of freelancers were hired for the development of Palworld. while some Pals heavily resemble already existing Pokemon, they are kinda in the minority of the overall Pal designs, it has plenty of original designs
also wrt plagiarism accusations, I honestly think it's just best left to courts to decide in any potential lawsuits. not that tipping copyright holders for possible plagiarism is bad, but that's all it is. a tip. best to just let actual lawyers who study these laws to judge (and even actual copyright and IP lawyers will tell you just how freaking tangled copyright laws are) in the even of a possible lawsuit
#and while i'm in the camp that some of the plagiarism accusations towards palworld are a reach i won't lie#some of those designs fly far too close to the sun#like direhowl#'there are only so many ways to design a wolf' please look at the wolves in digimon i'm begging you#as well as wolves from other media#there are plenty of ways to design wolves. even the most literal down to earth wolf#i'm not a lawyer and i don't want to say for sure if i think direhowl is plagiarized but it's def one of the more uninspired pals#along with verdash#on the other hand i'd be interested in hearing from an actual lawyer whether splices constitute plagiarism or not#like ok i'll admit i like dinossom but i acknowledge it's a splice of already existing pokemon#shadowbeak too#love the design but i know it's just a splice of arceus and silvally with a gryphon spin#still that design fucks#i also kinda like the centaur ceruledge pals they look p cool#cmon pokemon give us actual centaurs#also if pocketpair do get hit with a lawsuit i really hope all they'll have to do is replace pals that look too much like pokemon#i'm afraid of a lawsuit scenario which is ruled in favor of TPC bc of potential precedents that could be set#that go on to hamper creativity and innovation#and the monster taming genre is already as monopolized as is by nintendo#other developers have been prying that control away slowly throughout the years and there's been a more general acceptance of other games#but there needs to be more#palworld#hazy rambles#also i do wonder if there could possibly be a day where palworld is released on a nintendo system#think about it#game has been selling like crazy and nintendo def wants a piece of that pie#and pocketpair would reach an even bigger audience#everyone would win in that scenario

i think what makes some of the new pokemon designs and evolutions so odd is that for like. 20 years or something all pokemon followed this formula in their design, they had such similar vibes i regularly confused from which game some of them were from. i don’t think it’s bad that they’re mixing things up and going for something new but idk when you combine that with how the games themselves remain stagnant and only introduce single-generation gimmicks as opposed to some real changes to the gameplay it really feels like someone’s shoving digimon and yo-kai watch characters into pokemon which is a weird vibe to me
#soda offers you a can#perhaps im rambling a little here but am i wrong tho#i want pokemon to innovate almost as much as i want them to develop the games for a few more years per cycle#and maybe like you know get 3rd party studios to work on spin-offs to keep the audience sated??#and yeah it'd prolly easier to go wild with designs as opposed to gameplay#but when they've gone hand-in-hand for so long it's a bit jarring to change one but not the other if that makes sense??

saw your tags about how "AI art cannot do is understand the purpose and intent that goes into a piece", would you consider img2img (drawing a picture and deciding colour and composition based on human intent, then putting that into the AI program for the AI program to iterate over) to be AI art that possesses purpose and intent? AI art technology is tending to evolve towards greater non-textual control with the ability to draw poses and specify composition, ultimately carrying more human intent.
so basically if i was being very precise about it, what I mean is that this stuff is fed into AI art differently and I’ve yet to see anything to suggest that it can do it in quite the way a human artist can (and there are lots of times when the way a human artist can do it is what you want).
it’s like, if i was commissioning a piece of art i might not specify the poses or know anything about what composition achieves what affect - I could just talk to the artist about what I want the piece to say or how it should make me feel and the artist is able to reason about those things based on what I’ve told it. The AI can only guess based on how other people have tried to achieve things that it ‘thinks’ are similar to what you want achieved. It might via randomisation or whatever throw out things that break classic rules of form or composition, but it can’t decide to break those rules in this specific way in this specific piece for a specific reason.
It really all comes down to ‘there is no conscious process that can actually know contextual information and use it to reason about what to do’. They may well get better and better at approximating something you could mistake for being the result of such a process, but actually having that process going on would require an AI that works differently (rather than just more/better) to the AIs we have, or incorporating so much human intent in the process that it would make more sense to think of it as ‘AI-assisted art’.
#and it is my intuition I suppose that there are ways in which art created with conscious intent can be good#that can at most only be achieved *by accident* by AIs#AI genned stuff has its own uniquenesses as well but at present these are more artistically interesting novelties#(they do not *know* the rules which is an interesting place to innovate from)#..than of practical commercial use such as ‘design me a character for this video game that is successful on the metrics of that craft#‘

Adobe’s Firefly AI is Set to Revolutionize Video Editing - Videoguys
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/adobes-firefly-ai-is-set-to-revolutionize-video-editing-videoguys/
Adobe’s Firefly AI is Set to Revolutionize Video Editing - Videoguys
In this article by Jourdan Aldredge for NoFilmSchool, the author explores how Adobe’s new Firefly AI-powered video model is set to revolutionize video editing. With updates across Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io, Firefly introduces game-changing features like Generative Extend to help video editors work more efficiently. These updates were revealed during Adobe’s MAX 2024 conference, held in Miami, Florida.
One of the most exciting additions to Premiere Pro is the Generative Extend (beta) feature, which allows users to extend the length of video clips by generating new frames. This AI-powered tool enables video editors to fill gaps in footage, smooth transitions, and hold shots for the perfect edit. It also extends audio clips by generating ambient “room tone” to make transitions sound natural. This feature will save editors significant time while maintaining professional quality in their video projects.
Adobe’s Firefly AI also brings several improvements across its platforms. Premiere Pro introduces a new color management system that delivers more accurate HDR and SDR color transformations, making video production smoother and more vibrant. Performance enhancements, such as faster ProRes exports and expanded camera support for Canon, Sony, ARRI, and RED, further streamline workflows for editors working with high-resolution footage.
For motion designers using After Effects, Adobe’s integration with Substance 3D adds more creative power by enabling the import of 3D models with ease. This feature allows artists to incorporate stunning, photorealistic 3D elements directly into their projects, boosting productivity and creative potential. Meanwhile, Frame.io simplifies collaboration with new tools for managing complex workflows, richer feedback, and the ability to organize media with customizable metadata.
With these innovations, Adobe Firefly is positioned to be a game-changer for professionals across the video editing industry. Whether you’re editing in Premiere Pro, working on VFX in After Effects, or collaborating through Frame.io, these AI-powered tools promise to make video production faster, more efficient, and more creative than ever before.
