⋆ ★ '𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞' - 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬
chapter summary: Satoru faces the terrifying possibility of losing you because of someone else’s reckless mistake, but he manages to save you, bringing you back from the edge. Every touch, every word is filled with tenderness, his relief palpable as he steadies you, feeds you, and ensures you feel his warmth beside you.
warnings: near death experience from reader, description of wounds and limbs, blood, first aid (more or less adequate), "hospital" experience, Satoru is a menace (in general and to someone), hurt/comfort (a lot), a lot of caring from Satoru, full blown princess treatment for reader, pet names (princess), he is still teasing but worried.
author's note: This chapter is a little longer than I expected, but I hope you will still enjoy it c:

You lay sprawled on the floor.
Your breaths coming in ragged gasps, the taste of blood sharp and metallic on your tongue.
The ground beneath you felt warm.
You couldn't move your arm, you totally lost contact with the torn tissue. Your non-dominant hand tried to plug the hole that had formed at your abdomen.
Blood pooled around you, thick and dark, clinging to your skin and clothes, spreading beneath your body like ink on paper. Coldness began to creep in, sinking through your muscles, and with it, an unbearable heaviness.
Everything hurt you, it hurt so much.
You were so tired, sleep clawing at the edges of your mind, whispering promises of release.
You knew you didn't have much time.
You glanced out of the corner of your eye one last time, far away, to the exit of the domain that you made so that everyone could escape. Not everyone made it, you didn't have enough strength to hold the way of escape. People screamed and fled deeper into the dark, chased by the curse - leaving you alone.
With a quivering hand slick with blood, you managed to grab your phone, its surface smudged and smeared from your grip. Your thumb trembled as you unlocked the screen, the faint glow casting pale light onto your weary face.
You dialled the first number from your recent calls.
It's worth a try, maybe this domain is still weak enough that the phone signal will manage to get through.
Even the phone seemed heavy to you. You could feel yourself slowly choking as blood rushed to your throat from internal bleeding.
The call connected, and his voice filled your ear, casual, warm, blissfully unaware.
"Hey~ Relax, I know what you're calling for. I can cook that ramen. Got the recipe right here. I've got it all under control!" in the background, you could hear the shuffle of kitchen utensils, the clinking of pots and pans. There was comfort in that sound, familiar, so ordinary.
"Sato…ru.." you rasped, your voice barely more than a breath, your mouth filling with blood as you struggled to speak.
The noise on his end stilled in an instant. Silence fell, tense and sharp.
"Where are you?" his voice was hard, worried, so different from the playful tone he’d used just seconds before.
You tried to answer, but your throat was full, each breath a struggle against the liquid heat rising up, drowning your words.
You managed to roll onto your side. You hissed as you shifted, pressing weight onto your injured arm. Blood escaped from your throat, allowing you to speak a little.
“Civilians... inside the domain..." you whispered, voice thin and fragile, every syllable a labor of will "Two curses.... the other still... lives..." you could hear a sharp clatter from his end, something falling, maybe a knife or a spoon, maybe something heavier, but it was all blending into the haze.
"Where are you, answer me (Y/N)!"
But you didn't listen, trying to gave him important information before your gone.
"Hit the mirror..." you coughed ".. when your done, it's outside."
"Damn it! Answer me!"
"I'm.. not gonna make it.." you paused, feeling your consciousness slipping away "I’m so sorry, ‘toru…" you whispered, dropping your phone on the floor.
Darkness closed in, thick and final, but just before it claimed you, you thought you heard him calling your name, his voice taut and desperate, reaching through the static
★ --
"Shoko! Get over here, now!"
The hospital doors flew open as he appeared, and he didn’t bother to hold back his voice, shouting Shoko’s name with a force that echoed down the sterile hallways
The intensity was enough to scatter anyone who dared cross his path, medical staff and sorcerers alike stepping back, wide-eyed and fearful as Satoru strode forward, not slowing, his face an icy mask of resolve.
"Get out of my way!" he snapped at anyone lingering in the halls, his voice sharp and carrying a barely controlled fury.
Despite his quite controlled exterior, his mind was racing, worry clawing at him like he’d never known. His thoughts clung to the what-ifs, the questions he never let himself think but now couldn’t ignore.
Had he made it in time?
He looked at you.
You looked like a small, battered doll. Your eyes almost lifeless, your expression petrified. The cursed energy in your body barely glimmered. He hugged you tighter to himself, pulling your limbs tighter to hold you even tighter.
"Hold on, please - we're almost there." he murmured, more to himself than to you
Please, please, please stay with me.
He turned to the left corridor.
He found her, and relief mingled with his urgency. Shoko took one look at you in his arms, the blood trailing from your side, the limp, lifeless way your arm hung by a thread, and her face paled, a steely focus settling into her gaze.
"Put her down here." Shoko ordered, snapping out of her shock.
She had no time for questions, no time for explanations. She turned to her assistants, barking orders with a precision born of experience "Prep the room. I’ll need blood transfusions - check her chart, sutures, cursed energy patches - everything we have."
Satoru laid you down on the nearest examination bed, his movements almost mechanical, though the tremor in his hands betrayed the turmoil within him. He stepped back only enough to allow Shoko space to work, his jaw clenched as he watched her assess your injuries.
The assistant returned with everything Shoko had ordered.
"Do you know how much blood she's lost?" she asked hurriedly, putting on gloves and a face mask.
"A lot" was all he could say.
She began with your shoulder, examining the nearly severed arm hanging grotesquely by a strip of muscle and skin. Blood soaked through her gloves as she lifted the limb carefully, eyes dark with concentration.
“Her arm is barely attached,” she muttered under her breath, reaching for a clamp to stem the blood flow “The wound is extensive, torn straight through muscle and tendons.”
Shoko’s assistant hovered nearby, their faces set in grim concentration as they handed her the tools she needed.
"Stop the bleeding in the lower abdomen." ordering one of the astists, she turned to the other "And you start the transfusions."
Satoru stayed silent, his gaze fixed on you, his body taut as he watched her work.
Shoko’s hands moved deftly, sealing off the worst of the blood loss with a cursed energy barrier, pressing her hands to the wound as she worked to restore circulation to your arm. Her reverse cursed technique glowed faintly, a steady stream of healing energy pulsing through your battered shoulder as she mended the torn tendons, weaving muscle fibers back together with meticulous care. The procedure was painstaking, every inch of the damage requiring careful attention, but Shoko’s focus was unshakable.
She had to stabilise you - that was the priority.
Then her hands took care of your stomach.
It took maybe 5-7 minutes, however, for Satoru everything lasted like hours. He had to stand and watch as a group of people covered the view of you.
"How bad is it?" his voice broke through the silence, rough and strained. He wanted any information. Any confirmation that he had made it in time.
Shoko glanced up, her expression guarded. “She’s lost a lot of blood. The damage is severe." she was specific and gave facts. As usual. There was no point in lying to him.
“This..." she traced the torn flesh of your shoulder carefully "It’s so close to major arteries. We’re lucky she made it this far."
Satoru’s fists clenched, his gaze dark as he watched her press a gauze pad to your side, the blood staining it immediately.
"I got here as fast as I could." he murmured, barely more than a whisper, his voice laced with an emotion he seldom showed.
He drifted away in thought for a moment.
Slipping into his mind.
The room seemed too bright and the blood everywhere too dark. The noise of the medical machines was disturbed by the sound of his pounding heart.
His gaze lingered on the trail of blood just below his feet, leading directly to your bed. He watched the small spots on the floor, and observe as they getting bigger, literally growing before his eyes, consuming his shoes.
The sight of your body in a pool of blood flashed through his mind.
Over, and over, and over.
And over again.
Shoko's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
To her, Satoru simply stood with his head bowed down, stone-faced.
"Gojo. Her condition is stable. Please wait outside, I will take care of everything now."
Satoru noded, his shoulders slumping.
He moved closer to the bed, he put his hand on your palm, squeezing it lightly, before turning to Shoko.
"Thank you, Shoko." he murmured, his voice barely audible.
He glanced at you again before leaving the room, watching you disappear again behind a curtain of people who were trying to keep you alive.
He knew what he had to do now.
★ --
Satoru appeared after a while in the corridor, his footsteps echoing against the polished floor as he walked.
An energy pulsed off him in waves.
The air around him felt charged, almost volatile, his usual lighthearted demeanor replaced by something colder, something that made those nearby shrink back. His gaze was concealed behind the bandages, his expression was unreadable, a stone mask that gave nothing away.
From her spot by the wall, Shoko watched him with a wary gaze, a cigarette still held between her fingers as she blew out a last puff of smoke.
Her hard work has paid off - she has stabilised you.
She took in the scene as he approached - the smears of blood staining his jacket, the dark flecks of cursed energy lingering in the air around him, and the deep, cold set of his jaw. She could only imagine the wreckage he’d left behind, the remnants of whatever curse had dared to harm you.
As he neared her, he drew a white handkerchief from his pocket, unfolding it with calm precision. Shoko’s eyes followed the movement, noting the slight tremor in his fingers as he began methodically wiping away the purple blood splattered across his hands.
He moved slowly, almost obsessively, wiping each knuckle, each crease, as if trying to erase every trace of what he’d done.
"Did it suffer?" she asked.
Satoru finished wiping his hands, folding the bloodstained cloth neatly before pocketing it. He didn’t answer immediately.
"More than enough." he replied after a while, his voice like steel.
The famous Gojo Satoru getting his hands dirty.
He glanced back toward your room, his shoulders relaxing ever so slightly. The fury that had burned in him faded, replaced by the exhaustion.
"Can I… see her?" his voice was low, uncharacteristically tentative.
Shoko nodded "Yes, the worst is over, she’s sleeping now."
"Thank you - again." he gave her a nod.
Without thinking, he approached the door and pulled gently on the handle, entering the room quietly.
Shoko saw that for a moment, he was the man who'd rushed to your side, not the sorcerer who’d torn through curses with cold precision.
★ --
The soft hum of teleportation barely registered as Satoru reappeared in his own home, the familiar surroundings both grounding and jarring. The scent of something burnt hit his nose first, and then he noticed the plume of smoke curling up from the kitchen. His stomach sank. He’d left the ramen on the stove, the pot now emitting a dark, acrid smell.
"Do you have any idea what you almost did!?" Megumi yelled, his tone sharp "You left the ramen on the stove - almost burned down the kitchen!"
Satoru opened his mouth to respond, maybe to offer a laugh or a joke, but the words died as Megumi's gaze softened, his expression changing as he took in Satoru’s face. The stone face, the faint streaks of blood on his collar, the tension that lingered despite his attempts to relax. Megumi’s scolding faded, and worry took its place. Tsumiki who appeared next to him had the same look on her young face.
"I’m sorry about the ramen, kiddo. I was… distracted. Something happened." Satoru’s tone shifted, calm and steady, though a note of heaviness remained "There was an accident. Your mom... she got hurt pretty badly, but she’s in good hands now. She’s being taken care of."
Both kids froze, their faces mirroring an all-too-familiar look of fear. Tsumiki’s hands flew to her mouth, and Megumi’s normally composed demeanor broke, his eyes wide "Is she going to be okay?" he asked, his voice soft.
"Can we see her?" Tsumiki asked, voice barely above a whisper.
"Yes." Satoru assured them, placing a gentle hand on each of their shoulders "She’s stable now. She’s safe." he paused, his voice softening as he added "You’ll be able to see her soon. I’ll take you both to visit her in a day or two, once she’s rested a bit. Or maybe she'll even be home by then."
The kids nodded, though their expressions were still clouded with worry. He offered them a head pat and reassuring smile, one that felt fragile even as he gave it, before excusing himself to gather a few things for you.
Satoru went to your shared room, pulling together a bag of things you’d want with you. He packed the essentials - clean clothes, hygiene products, a book you hadn’t finished yet with the worn bookmark you always used. His hand lingered over his softest pair of socks, slipping them into the bag because he knew how cold you got in clinic rooms. He added a few of your favorite snacks, the ones you always reached for on the top shelf, and finally, a small cushion from the couch that still held a trace of your favorite scent. He knew these were just small things, but they felt like tiny comforts he could offer to make you feel a little less alone when you wake up.
After he’d packed everything, Satoru paused in the quiet of the apartment. The kids had gone to bed, their lingering glances filled with worry and questions they hadn’t voiced.
He took a deep breath, trying to quiet the aftershocks of fear and anger that had burned through him. His fingers curled around the strap of the bag, as though anchoring himself in the thought of seeing you again, of bringing these small tokens of home to you.
He tried everything to prevent his mind from racing again.
With one last glance at the quiet apartment, he teleported back to your hospital room.
★ --
Light, more brightness.
More noise.
And more pain.
Your eyes flutter open, everything slowly coming into focus. A heaviness settles over your body, a dull ache throbbing in every limb. As you shift slightly, you catch sight of the IV needle taped to your hand, a soft bandage wrapped around the other, the skin numb, likely due to the strong meds they’d pumped into your system.
You exhale, bracing yourself as you slowly rise into a semi-sitting position, feeling the stiffness in your muscles protesting with every movement.
You made it through.
You're alive.
He saved you.
You knew it, you didn't see or feel him coming for you, yet only he would be able to get to you so quickly. No one else would have been able to help you.
Gratitude wells up inside you, mingled with the lingering haze of exhaustion. You don't know how to thank him. You would like to repay him in every bit of your existance.
You feel like you could lie there for hours, let the heaviness of sleep pull you back under. But, despite it all, you can’t ignore the small flicker of relief that you’re still here.
You survived today to die tomorrow.
It’s been an hour or maybe two when you tried to be awake - time’s hard to gauge in this half-dazed state.
The thought crosses your mind - just how long did you sleep?
You squint at the dim light seeping into the room, but there’s no sense of time here.
You start to egzaminate yourself.
Your dominant hand feels strange, disconnected - it’s there, resting on the blanket, but no matter how much you try, you can barely move it. The faintest twitches respond to your will, but there’s almost no control, like it’s not quite part of you. It’s unsettling, a reminder that your body has been through more than it can comfortably handle.
You pull the duvet, taking in the scattering of bruises and scratches that color your legs, each one a map of the recent battle. Carefully, you place your other hand on your hip, fingers brushing over a new scar, raised and raw, but without the sharpness of stitches. You can touch it, sure, and yet your senses are muted, dulled under the weight of painkillers coursing through your system. There’s a heaviness in your head too, a sluggishness, that made you almost sloppy.
It's not so bad - you need to thank Shoko. You could feel that she's not finished yet, she probably didn't have the strength anymore, so she made what she could.
At least you had an arm, right?
A glance around the room brings your eyes to the chair beside the small cupboard. On it sits a familiar black bag, half-zipped, with the fabric bulging slightly from the careful packing. Resting on the cupboard is your book, its cover worn, your favorite bookmark peeking out from between the pages. A small smile tugs at your lips despite the discomfort.
You reach toward the bag, tugging it closer, the weight of it almost too much as your fingers dig into the straps. With effort, you haul it onto the bed, wincing as the motion tugs at sore muscles. Slowly, carefully, you unzip it, peeling back the top to reveal neatly folded fabrics inside. Clean clothes, hygiene products, snacks, a big sweater that’s unmistakably Satoru’s, and a pair of warm socks - those oversized ones you’d always borrowed.
You smile, the simple sight of them lifting your spirits just a little. Satoru’s little touches are everywhere in this moment; he’d thought of every detail. With a bit of effort, you tug on the socks, feeling their warmth, thanking him for thinking of your poor, cold limbs.
You looked at the sweater.
Your gaze shifts to the doorway, lingering a moment to ensure no one is around. The hall outside is empty, and the door to your room is slightly ajar, but not a soul is passing by. Satisfied, you turn back to Satoru’s sweater, drawing it closer, letting your fingers sink into the soft fabric, drowning in the scent of his cologne mixing with something unmistakably him - a warm, comforting aroma that always brings you a sense of calm.
It’s not your fault he smells so perfect; you’d picked out that cologne yourself, after all, and it suits him like nothing else.
You allow yourself a quiet smile, eyes still closed, feeling both comforted and amused at how easily his scent seems to chase away the chill of the room.
Gritting your teeth, you try to sit up, sliding your legs slowly toward the edge of the bed. A hiss escapes your lips as the pain bites sharply, sending a wave of discomfort through your side. You pause, steadying yourself, breathing through the sensation. You see that he brought you disposable flip-flops, that were lying next to this side of the bed.
You’re just getting used to the discomfort when Shoko enters the room, her expression composed, professional, her posture radiating a calm authority. There’s a brief flicker of warmth in her eyes as she sees you awake, but it’s quickly replaced by her focused, clinical gaze. For a moment, you’re not her friend lying here in a hospital bed but her patient.
She steps closer, her eyes sweeping over you with that practiced precision, assessing every visible sign of injury.
"How are you feeling?" she asks, her voice soft yet purposeful, each word measured, carrying an undercurrent of genuine concern.
"I’m… here." you manage, letting out a weak chuckle "Can barely feel my hand, though. Just feels… dull. Heavy, I guess. Thank you for saving me."
She nods, her brow furrowing as she shifts to examine your hand. Her touch is careful, her fingertips pressing lightly along your arm, tracing the lines where numbness blurs into sensation.
"No problem. You’re feeling dullness in the hand?" she repeats, more to herself than to you, her mind clearly already analyzing what’s needed.
"Yeah, like I know it’s there, but it’s not exactly responding the way it should" you explain, trying to move your fingers slightly but finding only minimal response.
Shoko mutters something under her breath, her gaze fixed on the IV as she reaches to adjust it.
"Alright, I’m putting this drip on hold for now." she announces, her tone shifting briefly into one of practiced command. She carefully unfastens the line, leaving the cannula still in place "I don’t want to remove this completely yet. I’ll need it again tomorrow. For now, though, I want things to stabilize a bit on their own."
You watch her work, noticing the subtle exhaustion in her movements "So… you’ll take care of it tomorrow?" you ask, curiosity slipping into your voice.
Like, you want to have an a functioning arm - if it's avaiable?
She nods, her gaze softening for a moment as she steps back, folding her arms and glancing at the IV "Yes. Your arm should start feeling more normal by then, but I need to let things knit together a little first. And, honestly…" she pauses, rubbing her eyes briefly "I don’t have the strength right now. I’ll be more useful tomorrow, after I get some rest. I'm sorry."
You thank her and study her, seeing the weight of her own exhaustion etched faintly in the way she holds herself, the way she sometimes blinks a little longer than usual. Her commitment to her work is unmistakable, but you catch the signs that even she is running low.
"How long did I sleep, anyway?" you ask, breaking the silence.
"Almost two days." she replies, her voice calm, matter-of-fact. Her gaze shifts back to you, assessing your response as though you might suddenly react to the news.
Your brows rise "Two days? That’s… a long time."
Shoko shakes her head slightly.
"Not really. Honestly, after the state you were in, I thought you might be out for a week." she crosses her arms, her gaze steady "You lost a lot of blood, and you nearly lost a limb. Two days is impressive recovery for you."
You nod slowly, absorbing her words, realizing how close you must have come to something worse. The weight of it settles on you, a quiet reminder of just how lucky you are to still be here.
"So… Satoru’s out on a mission?" you ask, hoping to change the subject, if only to lighten the mood a bit.
Shoko reaches up, twirling a strand of her hair thoughtfully "He left a few hours ago. But he should be back later. He sat by your side the whole time." her gaze flickers to the door, as if expecting him to walk in at any moment.
You nod, a small, relieved sigh escaping you "Understand."
You wonder what the kids must feel. They probably know about your condition.
Shoko settles into a chair beside your bed, glancing down at her notes, then back up at you. There’s a hint of something in her gaze - frustration mixed with lingering concern. She takes a breath, her voice soft but firm.
"It's a miracle, really. You almost didn't make it." she says, her tone steady, but her eyes hold a fierceness that surprises you "All because someone couldn't do thier job correctly."
Your brows furrow as you try to recall the details of the mission, piecing together what you remember. Everything comes back in flashes.
Endo Kyō, the assistant who was assigned to you and participated in that mission with you.
By your arrival, his job was to secure the area and assess the threat. According to his analysis, there was a grade one curse in the domain.
In fact, there were two curses in the domain. However, you had no idea about this.
One was trapped in the domain of the other - the one that attacked you first inside, wasn't responsible for the domain. You knew something was wrong when, after killing this one, the domain didn't start to disintegrate. You thought it was a matter of place or vail that the assistant should apply. Through the effect of the domain, you were unable to effectively sense the presence of the other one on time.
You were outclassed.
The second curse emerged just as you were making a hole in the shell so that civilians could safely leave the area.
You got hit, unable to dodge the attack.
"He seemed fine as a person, maybe a little weird. He's new, mistakes happen. Like... I remember my beginnings. He'll learn." you sigh resignedly.
Shoko’s expression sharpens, a seriousness in her eyes that makes you pause "He’s not new." she says flatly.
"Huh?"
"He originally worked in Kyoto. He was transferred here after a similar incident, a really similar case." you listened in disbelief, looking at Shoko with wide eyes.
"And..." she continued "Because he has connections with higher-ups, it was decided to transfer him disciplinary to our grounds, rather than dismiss him for his apparent negligence." her words sink in like a stone, leaving you in stunned silence.
You stare at her, the shock sinking in like ice. Your fists clench at your sides, the dull ache in your hand momentarily forgotten as your fingers press into your palm. You are livid.
What a fucking asshole.
Shoko watches you, her own expression dark.
"Well... Gojo had an even worse reaction." she says quietly, glancing down as if recalling the scene.
"What do you mean?"
"Gojo found out what Endo did not long after you were brought in." she begins.
Oh no.
"I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that. He marched right up to Endo and tore into him. It was… intense." she stated "He didn’t even gave him a chance to speak before he cornered him, demanding to know if he had any sense of care at all. Told him that as a assisnant, he should take his comrades’ lives as seriously as he takes his own and that his failure is just as spectacularly dumb as he is."
She goes on, eyes narrowing "He pointed out every mistake and every omission to him as if he had no filter. I guess he controled himself a little at least, because he looked like he was fighting not to snap. The guy nearly passed out there."
You couldn't believe what you were just hearing.
"In the end he said something along the lines that if he saw him near his wife again - he won't hold back and won't care if someone is watching, he'll just kill him on the spot."
★ --
After some time a pang of hunger twists in your stomach, and the uncomfortable reminder that you’ll need the bathroom soon follows.
You try to get up again, struggling with the same discomfort as before.
"Oh no~ The sleeping beauty is already up and I missed the wake-up kiss." you heard his voice behind you. You chuckled weakly. He goes around your bed.
Despite his lighthearted words, you can sense the undercurrent of concern beneath them. You can see it more when he comes closer a heaviness, a weight that’s hard to miss.
"You really shouldn’t be getting up, princess." he murmurs, his fingers gentle and lingering as they steady your shaking body "Wouldn't want you losing a glass slipper on the way to the bathroom, would we?"
You roll your eyes, managing a faint laugh "Wrong princess, you dork. You don't have to help me, I'll manage somehow, you did enough for me." you try to be polite, but a hiss escape your lips, when you stand for a first time.
"Consider it royal decree: this dork is helping you, no arguments." he replies, slipping his arm more firmly around you despite your protest, his playful tone does little to mask the concern in his eyes as he holds you steady.
Together, you make your way out into the corridor, Satoru guiding you carefully, matching his steps to your slower pace. His hand never leaves you, and he keeps glancing over, checking on you, asking if you’re alright, if anything’s hurting more than it should. You answer quietly, pointing out the sharper aches and the duller bruises. The warmth of his arm around you, his attention, feels steadying, grounding you in a way that’s as comforting as it is unusual.
But of course he had to tease you a little bit.
"You know, for a princess, you’re not exactly gliding gracefully down the hall. Need me to summon some royal attendants to carry you on a velvet throne?"
You scoff, wincing slightly as another sharp ache flares up "No throne required. I’ll walk, thank you very much."
He chuckles, adjusting his hold on you "Brave as ever. But if you start fading from exhaustion, I’m totally picking you up. Wouldn’t want you fainting and having to explain to the entire staff how their little Sleeping Beauty managed to end up on the floor."
You roll your eyes, his teasing both comforting and mildly embarrassing "They’d have to call you Prince Charming in that case, huh?"
Satoru grins, dramatically flicking an imaginary cape over his shoulder "I knew you saw it in me. But don’t worry, I’m perfectly fine with just ‘Your Highness’ for now. ‘Prince Charming’ can wait for special occasions."
The faint murmur of clinic activity surrounds you, and as the two of you walk through the corridor, you catch a few people glancing your way, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and surprise. Satoru doesn’t seem to notice, or maybe he just doesn’t care. He’s focused on you, steadying you with each step, his hand firm yet gentle on your side.
His words are teasing, playfull as ever. But his touch is delicate, caring - and it's making your heart flutter.
When no one’s around, you feel his fingers subtly adjusting the back of your hospital gown, and though he doesn’t mention it, you know it’s his quiet way of looking out for you.
When you finally reach the bathroom, he stops just outside, his arm slipping away but his gaze fixed on you with an almost exaggerated seriousness "Now, don’t go pulling a Cinderella and sneaking away, alright? I’ll be here if you need me to hold your royal gown or anything. Very dignified service - I’m quite experienced."
You chuckle despite yourself, finding his lighthearted support surprisingly pleasant "Yeah, sure, I’ll call my ‘knight in shining armor’ if I need any bathroom assistance."
He smirks, leaning casually against the wall "Good. Because a princess should never have to face a hallway alone."
You linger in the bathroom a moment, catching your reflection in the small, unflattering mirror. Your face stares back, hollowed with exhaustion, skin pale and dull under the fluorescent light. Your hair clings in greasy strands, reminding you just how long you’ve been out. It's strange seeing yourself this way - vulnerable, worn down, every bruise and shadow a testament to the last ordeal. Your outfit must be pretty ridiculous too with his oversize sweater, hospital gown, oversized socks and slippers.
Your look is not very princess-like.
You wonder if you should talk to him about what happends now.
However, you conclude that it is better to wait until you return from your meal so that you can talk to him in peace, unless he is called away on a mission.
When you step out, Satoru’s waiting right there, his hand reaching out to take yours. The familiar warmth of his touch steadies you, grounding you once more.
"What else does my princess need?" he teases softly, his tone light yet gentle "A breakfast feast? A little pampering session?" you pass him a tired smile, there’s still a glint of mischief in his tone "How about I whisk you off to your favorite ramen place? I could get us there in two seconds flat."
"As tempting as that sounds, I don’t think I could handle being teleported just yet. And I don't like it that much." you laugh, shaking your head. You wouldn't go anywhere in this outfit anyway.
"Right." he nods, pretending to think it over "Hmm. Guess the royal express is on hold today." he says with a mock sigh of disappointment "Alright, we’ll go with the classic approach - school cafeteria it is. Nothing but the finest cuisine for you."
It's been a long time since you ate food from the school canteen. You wonder if it's as dull and bland, as it was back in your school days.
With a reassuring squeeze, he guides you down the corridor, his arm firmly around you as you both navigate to the a small room. A tiny, cramped and bright room, with a few tables, coffe maschine and a microwave, where the medical assistants usually take their meals. The antiseptic smell is a sharp contrast to the warmth of his arm and his steady presence beside you, as though he’s somehow blocking out the cold, sterile atmosphere.
When you reach the cafeteria, he gently seats you on one free table. He gently steers you into a seat, his hands lingering for a moment as if making sure you’re settled.
"Now, stay put." he commands lightly "Can’t have the princess fainting. I’ll be back in a flash."
You take a moment, resting your head back against the seat, allowing the gentle hum of the cafeteria to settle around you. It’s oddly peaceful here, the faint murmur of voices blending with the rhythmic clatter of dishes.
It’s only a few moments before he’s back, a tray laden with food and drinks balanced effortlessly in his hands. He grins, setting it down with a flourish "Behold, a feast fit for a princess." he declares, gesturing grandly to a couple of steaming bowls of soup, a small pile of rice, orange chicken and some kind of dessert.
You raise an eyebrow, but you smile a little anyway "I think you might be confusing 'princess' with 'army,' but thank you."
"Look, every princess deserves options. You don’t know what royal cravings might strike once you start eating." he starts to lay everything out on a small table.
You laugh, the sound softer than usual but genuine "Well, I appreciate the royal treatment."
His gaze softens, the usual teasing glint tempered by something warmer "You deserve it." he says, his voice barely above a murmur.
You're looking at him, your eyes a little wide, you're holding on a little blush.
You give Satoru a grateful smile as he hands you the cutlery, and you gave each other quick "Itadakimasu" before digging in. Satoru starts eating right away, taking his first bite with his usual relaxed ease, but as you reach for your chopsticks with your non-dominant hand, reality sinks in quickly.
After a few frustrating tries, you reach for the spoon, hoping it’ll be easier, only to watch a scoop of soup drip right back into the bowl.
Well.. this is embarresing.
Satoru’s gaze flicks to you, catching the small, defeated sigh you let out as you set the spoon down. Quietly, he puts his chopsticks aside and shifts his chair closer, his expression warm and amused as he leans in without a word.
You glance at him, brow raised in surprise "What are you doing?"
"What’s it look like?" he murmurs, reaching for the spoon and swirling it through the soup with exaggerated elegance "Need a hand, princess?"
You raise a brow, a mix of embarrassment and exasperation flooding through you "Satoru, you don’t have to - "
"Oh, but I’m honored to assist." he interrupts, holding the spoon up with a little flourish "A princess deserves only the finest dining experience, after all." his grin is maddeningly playful as he offers the spoon to you "Now, I believe it’s customary for royalty to accept help gracefully."
Heat rises to your cheeks, but your stomach growls in agreement, much to his amusement. He raises an eyebrow, clearly delighting in your hesitation "See? Your stomach’s on board. Now, let’s get you to eat."
Reluctantly, you lean forward, taking the spoonful he offers, trying to ignore how closely he’s watching you. You know it, even if you don't see his eyes, you could feel them on you. The warmth of the soup is comforting, but his actions - soft yet mischievous - truly catches you off guard. He scoops up another spoonful, waiting patiently. You feel the gaze of everyone in the room on you. Satoru seems to ignore it.
"This is ridiculous." you mumble, cheeks flushed.
"Oh, hush. Have some table manners, will you?" he teases, holding the next spoonful right in front of your mouth "It’s rude to speak with your mouth full, you know. Now, aaa~"
★ --
Shoko steps into the room, clipboard in hand and a focused look on her face. She pauses mid-step, though, taking in the sight before her.
There you are, on the bed, head resting peacefully on Satoru’s shoulder, breaths slow and steady in sleep. Your healthy arm is entwined with his, fingers curled against his sleeve as if holding onto him even in your dreams. A soft, well-worn book rests in his lap, open to a half-read page, hinting that you two had been reading together until sleep claimed you.
Satoru glances up as Shoko enters, catching her eye and lifting a finger to his lips in a silent request to keep quiet. There’s a surprising gentleness in his expression, something soft and protective that Shoko rarely sees, especially in him. He gives her a slight smile, nodding subtly toward you as if to say - Let them rest a little longer.
Shoko raises an eyebrow but doesn’t make a sound. She’d always known Satoru had a soft spot for you, but seeing it here, so unguarded, speaks volumes. She makes a note on her clipboard, then gives a little nod and steps back, closing the door softly behind her.
Satoru watches her go, his hand shifting slightly to adjust the blanket over you and brushing a strand of hair away from your face. He glances down at you, a faint smile tugging at his lips as he returns his attention to the book, careful not to disturb you, content to sit in this rare moment of peace.
He is so glad that you are here, with him.

As a twitter/tumblr user since 2010-2011, I believe I have sufficient grounds to say that currently we as a community are living through the scariest, shittiest time yet. This post isn’t trying to fearmonger, no I’m not leaving tumblr until it literally keels over, but I suggest that we don’t put all our eggs in one basket.
If twitter/tumblr stay usable, great! In the worse scenario, you’d have kept posting on a new platform and stayed ahead of the curve.
This post shares my personal experience with three potential “new”* fandom places, and is aimed to help fellow content creators. I’m an artist fully depending on internet to survive, my reasoning may not apply to you if you’re a hobbyist. Do your own research, it’s always healthy. * Pillowfort and mastodon have been around for 5+ years, bluesky is ~2 years old.
Discovering new people to follow kinda sucks on all three platforms, twitter and tumblr are eons ahead, but, given the recent chaos and uncertainty, I’m willing to be patient, keep posting on those, and feel safer than I would’ve otherwise been. More baskets good, one basket bad.
All three have poor visual customization, don’t expect custom tumblr themes.
This list starts with the least popular, but most human and easy to join, and what I personally trust the most. All three allow nsfw if labeled properly.
✦ Pillowfort is a barebones tumblr. Intuitive, cozy, but currently very, very small. Be patient with its clunkiness or lack of some features, it’s made by an AO3-like team. I’d personally love if the fandom crowd managed to redirect its attention to it instead of the sus bluesky.
Joining: is free, invite-only, but the waitlist is nearly instant.
Lurk around on their official tumblr: @/pillowfort-social
✦ Mastodon, for me personally, is impossible to explain directly. I’ll use several comparisons.
- Discord but all servers can interact. You’re still on a server curated by some human(s) that might tell you what you can and can’t post, BUT, if you don’t like that server’s policy, you can move to a new one while keeping your followers. - Email, users A and B may be registered on different domains, still they can talk. It’s a weird comparison, but fediverse (please I’m not explaining THAT but it’s a good thing) in general looks like another email story: unlike big sites that come and go, it might stand the test of time. - Someone compared mastodon’s structure to xiv’s dc and servers, if you look at its domain names that way, it might be easier to understand.
Depending on user, mastodon may feel gatekeepy/snowflakey. I haven’t spent enough time on there to form a proper opinion yet, but a warning’s due.
An actually good and hopeful thing about mastodon AND tumblr: the two might start interacting in future. Ever lamented that your fav asian artists don’t use tumblr? If they use misskey, or any other place on the fediverse, it might be possible to follow them directly from tumblr in future, and vice versa.
Joining: is free, however some servers close for new members sometimes, and have human moderators reviewing your request.
✦ Bluesky is a twitter without Musk: today’s average internet user reads this, drops everything and already looks to register there. It’s still sus, but people flock to it like crazy. Most likely to become the next big fandom place in my eyes, even if I’m not happy about that.
I personally have no good feelings about bluesky. Same as twitter, which I hated even before the 2018 tumblr exodus, yet the crowd decided to make it The New Fandom Place, and, grudgingly, I had to give up and also join them in 2022. During the year I haven’t stopped despising twitter, yet, I can’t deny that it helped me survive. I estimate half of my patrons, and, hell, even tumblr audience, comes from twitter. So, if bluesky ends up being the next hot shit, I’ll have to keep up because internet pays for my living.
Joining: is free but hell, invite-only, the waitlist is a lie, your best chance to join is a direct invite.
This’s all I’ve got to say for now. If you have a correction or an addition, replies/reblogs are welcome!
Screenshots of the current interfaces under the cut, you may spy on my profiles o/

“The more you people react to these viewings, the more energy I get in return.” ——— GOD OF MYSTERY
The God of Mystery, also known as the Streamer or Keeper of Dream and Memory, is a god without a native world or a Church.
APPEARANCE
An adorable and adolescent-looking teenage girl with long shiny white hair and gem-like pinkish-blue eyes. She wears fashionable yet casual modern clothes, usually with white as the main color. It is noticeable that she has high-quality headphones with a mic which she clearly treasures.
PERSONALITY
Cale noted that the God of Mystery is a weird god. She rarely involves with the affairs of other gods yet likes to interact with mortals that she drags into her domain.
The God of Mystery seems to have two facades, one where she puts on a flair for public performance and one where she is quieter and calmer when interacting with Cale and the God of [REDACTED].
HISTORY
The God of Mystery actually was a streamer when she was human. Her native world was a version of [Earth]. However, that world was long destroyed. It seems like her habits as a streamer are carried into her godhood.
According to Cale, the God of Mystery seems to be a shut-in god who meddles with mortals for her entertainment and energy-gathering. She likes hosting these types of viewings for those purposes.
Upon the near destruction of [Nameless #], the God of Mystery struck a deal with Choi Han, Cale Henituse, and Alberu Crossman of that world.
ABILITIES
The God of Mystery is capable of pulling people into her domain which is outside of the time flow of most worlds. Inside her domain, she can use these people as a pinpoint to show the future and the past of their world or another similar world. In return, as these people react to these viewings, she can absorb their emotions to strengthen her domain.
These people won't be able to carry any memory of what they see in her domain when they go back to their native world. Of course, there are a few exceptions that are able to retain their memory of her domain. Kim Rok Soo with Record Ability or Single-Lifers are some of those few exceptions.
However, there is another method. The God of Mystery can also strike a deal with some of these people for them to retain memory. Her deal with the trio from the [Nameless #] world is one of those deals.
DIVINE ITEM
The God of Mystery's divine item is a magnifying glass called Lens of Truth. It's capable of showing an unknown truth of a person.
EMPLOYEES
Cale Thames (temporary)
TRIVIA
Her duty as a god is to maintain all kind of memories of the worlds.
She likes to watch all these memories of the worlds like they are some sort of movie series.
She likes cats, instant ramen, and all sorts of soft drinks.
The God of Mystery once offered Cale the Saint position but got rejected since he already is a Saint of the God of [REDACTED].

The Living Obelisk
History remembers you as The Living Obelisk—the most powerful witch of any generation, a master of Ancient Magic who shaped the wizarding world forever. But when you are pulled through the mysterious veil in the Department of Mysteries, you awaken in a time that has immortalized your deeds but forgotten the person behind the legend. Trapped in your younger self, you must navigate a world that sees you as a myth while uncovering the truth of why you were brought here. As whispers of a rising dark power reach your ears, you face an impossible question: will you reclaim your place in history, or will you forge a new legacy?
More parts on Wattpad.
Masterlist.
~Prologue~
The Ministry of Magic's archives were maddeningly vague—
All that remained were scraps of testimony about witches and wizards who had ventured through an ancient archway and never returned, leaving behind only unanswered questions. Officially, the stone portal was classified as an artefact of death, its function steeped in mystery. Yet whispered rumours spoke of something deeper—an undercurrent of primaeval magic, older than wands, older even than recorded time.
That is why you were here.
At the heart of a sunken amphitheatre, you found it: a towering stone arch draped in a tattered, shimmering black curtain that fluttered as if stirred by a breeze no one else could feel. The stone itself was worn and weathered, edges smoothed by centuries of silent witness, yet still etched with faint, indecipherable symbols—symbols that defied the logic of modern magical runes. Some lines curved with delicate precision, while others jaggedly intersected as if drawn by an unsteady hand. From the top of the descending steps, you could almost hear a soft, persistent murmur rising from beneath that undulating veil—a voice both alien and strangely familiar.
Reaching the amphitheatre's floor, you circled the archway, your gaze sweeping over every angle of the structure. The runes pulsed faintly now, their glow reminiscent of the blue shimmer of Ancient Magic. You knelt near the base, drawn to a particular symbol—a spiral of interlocking lines.
"This predates every record I've studied," you muttered, your voice echoing in the hushed chamber.
A wave of resonance rolled through you, as though the archway had become aware of your presence. The stone felt cold beneath your fingertips, but almost immediately, a pulse of warmth stirred within it, glowing with a subtle blue radiance.
You hesitated—your instincts warned you to step away—but curiosity won out. Ancient Magic was your domain, after all; you had spent a lifetime mastering it. Who else could unlock its secrets? Emboldened, you let your hand roam over the carvings, feeling the raw magic beneath the surface.
The reaction was immediate. A spark of light shot up your arm, sharp as a dagger, and you hissed, jerking your hand away.
Blood seeped from a tiny gash along your fingertip, a single ruby droplet falling onto the rune. The instant it touched stone, the black curtain quivered, as though it had suddenly drawn breath. The entire archway blazed with blinding brilliance, its runes igniting in cascading waves of blue and gold. The veil fluttered violently now, as if caught in a gale, and a low hum built into a deafening roar.
"What in the..." you gasped, stumbling back.
An unseen force latched onto you, inexorable as a riptide. You dug in your heels, wand gripped tight in your hand, but your body lurched forward. Magic churned wildly in the air, its momentum building around the archway, and the whispers intensified—a chorus of overlapping voices, chanting your name in an unsettling refrain.
Then, with a thunderous roar, a whirl of blue-white light surged from the arch, enveloping you in unbridled magic. You fought to pull free, adrenaline spiking as you summoned every ounce of magic you could muster. Blue light crackled in your palm, raw and untamed, but the force was unyielding. The current was too strong, dragging you inescapably toward the veil.
Your last conscious sensations blurred into a storm of chaos: the hot, metallic tang of your own blood in your mouth, the searing warmth of magic coursing through your veins, and the echo of countless voices cascading through your mind.
With one final surge of light and sound, the world fractured.
And then, everything went black.
Next.

"The Zora Domain was once again saved from tragedy by your heroic Swordsman and our beloved King Sidon… I wonder what you might have said seeing your brother and him fighting side by side. While most unproductive, I cannot help that my mind often strays to what could've been, Lady Mipha."
Yona's words swell with bittersweet wonder as she wistfully sighs and peers at the Champion's memorial. Yona's speckled amber eyes searched the tranquil statue's face. What for? She didn't even honestly know herself. Perhaps a sense of relief, or Yona wanted a sign that their demure Champion was watching her brother thrive. What would Yona's childhood hero have said to their union? So many questions that would stay unanswered, the foreign Zora concluded. Her mind wandered to her dear husband, the stars to her night sky.
Despite his unending enthusiasm and carefree air, the Queen knew her husband well to know there was so much more lurking underneath his energetic and hopeful personality. From the outside, it seemed even fear allured him. If only they knew it was the very opposite. Sidon was and still is profoundly affected by his sister's tragic passing, more to say, the fear it caused. Who would blame him for his fear? One hundred years were a blink of an eye for the Zora. Yet time did not heal all. The emptiness in everyone's hearts still aches, just not as much anymore. Everyone can say her name and recount their memory of Mipha with a smile, but her presence would still be longed for.
Finally, Sidon resumed his monthly visits to Mipha's Court, something he hadn't done in a while, even prior to his fight with Ganon. It may be silly for some to speak with a figurine. But this simple action always made Zora fondly smile, recalling days when Mipha would always listen with kind words and a warm aura as she always did before her death.
At the Champion's memorial, Yona recalls an instant from their shared childhood when heavy rains poured down a river they played next to. The torrential downpour rose above the bank, capturing the tiny crimson-screaming prince down the waterway. The foreign Zora was the first to swim after him, willing her smaller verdant fins to move her faster. Her heart was pounding in her chest as she reached her fellow royal. The current lashed the young children, but undeterred, Yona carried him into a small cape. A moment of peace after a hurricane of freight, the water continued to thunder behind them. The tiny child tried to calm the quivering Sidon in her arms while attempting to mend a wounded foot of her own. Then, as all hope seemed lost, frenzied cries welcomed the duo as a frazzled Mipha and royal guards caught up quickly. Mipha soothed their cries, touching their cheeks and promptly healing any injuries.
"My Queen, it's well past the early evening hours. We wouldn't want the subjects, least of all His Majesty, to worry about your disappearance." Webbed footsteps lightly tread behind the Queen as Khira stirs the royal to the present, her voice woven in respectful concern for Yona. Her attendants always stayed close to each other and their Lady out of duty and fondness for each other's company.
Even if Chroma's youthful airheadedness got on the latter's nerves, it was still a comfort brought to the Domain.
Their homeland was nearly unattainable to those who couldn't breathe and tread water as swiftly as the aquatic race. In contrast, Zora's Domain flourished to the elements. While New Bay seldom had hazardous weather. Their home had air pocket caverns filled with seashell shops nestled deep into the sea's safe tides and swaying colors, hidden from the land and its residence—a true secret treasure amongst the merpeople.
"Yes, yes. Of course, I wouldn't wish for Sidon to worry. My apologies to you both. It is late, Chroma, Khira. You did not have to accompany me to the Court. No monsters have dared step foot after that Sludge Like." Yona turns, smiling at her loyal, protective attendants. Her golden headpiece jewelry gingerly clinks as she steps down the stairs; verdant hands glide down the polished handrails. The Caregiver knew full well her guards knew their way around the weapons and their water magic, but still, she felt bad for her friends staying with her so long. Yona was no stranger to marksmanship or training herself in purifying wounds and tainted water.
"Please don't worry about it, Lady Yona! We like looking after you; you're our friend, plus his Majesty asked- Ow!" The youngest Zora cheerfully bubbles, and the older guard swiftly jabs her. The new Queen tilts her head, sighing to herself. Even now, Sidon's still quite protective, isn't he? But still, a loving gesture all the same that makes her heart flutter and cheeks warm.
"Hush you! Do you not know when to flap your lips and when not to? On that note as well, how many times must I lecture you? It is Queen Yona, no longer 'Lady.' Have you no respect or idea of the importance of these titles? My goodness, do my words fall on deaf ears?" Exasperated, Khira shakes her head while glaring at her fellow attendant. The trio starts their short journey home as Yona's muffled laughter spills from her lips, watching her dear friend's antics. The young women stare down the waterfall leading down Lulu Lake.
"Please, be nice. Any more of your reprimands, and I'll go deaf." Squeaks the distraught retainer, dark gray eyes pleading to their Queen for help as they descend through the waters.
Even from an immense height, the radiant city's glow softens the carved-out cliffs, and the bright ore deposits dot the wet landscape, becoming a beacon of beauty and splendor. The sun's wonderous warmth far retreated past the Domain's reach, a touch of cold breezes caressing Yona's skin. Coming to the halfway mark, the Caregiver answers her friend's silent pleas. Standing before the marbled platform, the Zora Queen shifts her attention to her bickering friend.
"Khira, come now, I believe that's enough, we wouldn't wish any harm, and it is only the three of us. You can indeed allow one moment of reprieve. I need not worry about titles, my precious friends." Yona coaxes her friend's long-winded lectures, seeing the elder Zora sigh in defeat and allowing this rare moment of informality, much like the old times. Marching down, Khira and Chroma flank their Queen's side, scanning every direction for any monster or Yiga sneak attack. The clansmen weren't interested in the Zora royal line, but being cautious with the newly crowned royalty never hurt.
Their serenity shatters as a high-pitched undignified whine carries through, cutting into the air as they swim down the final waterfall. The young guards perk up and quickly unsheath their weapons, pushing their Queen further near the falls, providing a swift escape. "Your Majesty, Chroma, stay here. I'll go investigate." A hushed command tumbles from the dark dolphin Zora's lips, eyes narrowing and head tucked down for intimidation.
The royal guard crawls out of the pool, spotting a cluster of thick foliage suitable for an ambush. Rushing to the forest green bushes, Khira ducks down to spy on the ruckus while Chroma guards Yona with her spear, guiding her safely away from the unseen danger. The new ruler braces herself, summoning water to snake around her sharp claws.
"I can't believe Sidon's married already! Come on. He's hitched to some random Zora girl we've never heard of? It doesn't sound like a union from love, y'know? And that, too, he doesn't talk much about her. I don't know; it sounds so fishy. That wasn't supposed to be a pun, by the way." A brown-haired Hylian woman clad in some strange mushroom hat walks into sight, and it seems she isn't alone. The woman's other companions stroll by, a pair of other Hylians complain, and another person in glasses fiddles with their leather satchel.
This group seems relatively young while they remain unabashed, glad to blabber, Khira thinks. Anger wells up in her as the group's voices had no intention of stopping with their ill-meaning talk. She knows that Yona could hear this noise. How could she not? Even a Bokoblin would understand their mad rambles.
"Well, I mean, Khole, we don't know much about Zora's politics, so I don't know if it may be an arranged loveless wedding," The glasses wearing sheepishly, state as they twiddle with short brown hair looking back at their friends. It seems this group was returning from visiting the East Reservoir.
"Amia, you're talking as if we know about our own. After all, our Princess had up and disappeared. Only Hylia knows where she is. Of course, she's nice, but if she were our Princess, she would try to reinstate the crown rather than twiddle around in Hateno. We've been in shambles for a hundred years, and only now are we starting to come back. If my great-grandparents could see how this panned out, they'd give Zelda a big lesson about responsibility. I know they lived on the outskirts of Castle Town. They saw she didn't put her all into protecting us from the Calamity." Another crude voice cuts into the cloud of gossip, and the tallest of the group groans. This one must be Khloe, according to them.
"Khloe, that's not nice. She does some things like building the school. I appreciate that, and even the fact she's somehow alive makes the older and more devout folks more invigorated." The shortest man answers the group, trying to reel in their chat, eyes darting around the wandering travelers.
"I like that she made the school too, but that's all our Princess does; twiddle around, now poof! She's gone along with her silent little knight throwing everyone in all corners of Hyrule for a loop," The mushroom-wearing Khole snorts, not taking the hint and wrapping her arm around the small man.
"Besides, there's only so much teaching can do if they don't know how to fight; you're dead. But I don't even know if this royal has done anything substantial to this, 'Zora Queen.' She appeared out of nowhere too, and I heard the women who had their little fan club are still reeling." Yona has had enough of this slander, slashing into the dancing streams around her hands, instantly dropping into the tide. The young Queen knew their last statement wasn’t true in the slightest, reminiscing the many moments the club members loudly fawned over her and the coupling.
The Zora, as she evades Chroma's eased guard, at brazen conversation in their Domain where these Hylians should be more mindful. These ignorant speculations about their Princess; they didn't see how Zelda collapsed to her knees, too choked on her grief to properly beg forgiveness from former King Dorephan and the royal line. When she emerged from the ruins of Hyrule Castle alongside Link, they didn't see the solemn strength and wisdom that welled behind those teary eyes, renewing her vow of protecting everyone no matter the cost.
But what pained her more was that, deep down, their prodding at the royal coupling hit a sore spot in her heart. The optimistic prince and herself had no say in their engagement. Of course, they had visited each other's kingdoms as young teens. Her heart never wavered in her affections for him and his people, but she often wondered what he felt when King Dorephan told him. The royals scarcely had time to talk and be with each other in private, away from others, along with helping the ill-stricken Zora from the sludge, repairing the Domain and Sidon becoming the Water Sage, and finally helping Link defeat Ganon.
Years after the Calamity and its sting aftermath, they grew dearly fond of each other. He changed, his glowing with unending enthusiasm and the occasional naivete all genuine. But he seemed to hide his deeper emotions from the public, even with his dear father. Either for fear that it would make him seem inexperienced or because he wished to truly earn the crown, Sidon's grown used to hiding his whole heart even now. Yona hoped she'd prove herself to him and eventually be blessed to reach those parts of his soul, knowing he was safe with her.
They've had many conversations about their situation and the future after Link helped Sidon slay the beast that floats in the sky. But old habits formed from grief and feeling inadequate die hard. The King still hides from the outside, so much so that he loathes to admit it. After the kingdom's announcement, she doubted if he truly loved her the same way as she did him as the century passed and their visits grew prevalent. Throughout their youth, they eventually graced each other with the title of a beloved friend.
Did his heart worry for her out of genuine care or for appearances or necessity? Did he yearn to have her beside him as his bride, Queen, and equal because he loved her? Would there be a day that Sidon would smile and proudly show his love to the world like Mei and Fronk?
Yona understood betrothal gifts were essential to the Hyrulean Zora culture, but she wasn't taught that way. Only learning how to mend the armor from other fish scales, her people learned a sacred courtship dance to show their interest. Yona summons her rapid heartbeat to the clearing out of the pooling water, allowing them to see her. Chroma whispers for Yona to stay but emerges from the pool trailing her Lady.
"Enough of your useless babble," The zealous guard seethes, lunging at the group from the overgrown shrubs. Jumping out of their skin, the rowdy quartet leap into each other's arms. They shudder like leaves, eyes firmly screwing closed, far too absorbed in their well-being.
The Zora spear inches away from the supposed root of all this meaningless noise, "You have shown an inexplicable disrespect and regard for both your Princess and our Queen. Your prattle proves nothing among you and your ilk. Your eyes will never see the true nature of these critical figures, and perhaps that is not your desire," Khira grits her sharpened teeth, even the air around them stilled in anticipation.
The grip on her spear tightens with every passing breath as the group hesitantly opens their eyes. The spear aimed at the frightened woman pulls back, and the guard's posture loosens, showing a reluctant sign of mercy and growling while pulling her weapon back. "But I will allow you this grace as well as one warning. You will not sully any of the royal's names here—especially Queen Yona. One would think that Princess Zelda's diplomatic nature would pass for all her subjects. Consider yourselves lucky. I want to avoid pushing more work on their Majesties, so relieving the burden of taking your tongues is out of the realm of possibility."
"Khira! Enough! Stand down." Yona calls out to her fearless attendant; in her mind, she notes how uncharacteristically aggressive the Zora woman is and how strange it is to see her threaten visitors. The Hylians take shaky steps back, looking at the emerging figure. Startled gasps erupt as the attendant glances over her shoulder. Faltering in her angered resolve, seeing the smaller Zora's displeased face. Lifting the sharp spear away, the Caregiver walks in front so the visitors can see her, bowing her head to the cluster of people as they stay silent. The royal could feel their pensive eyes staring into her as if trying to figure her out by tearing her apart.
"I sincerely apologize for my attendant; this is the first time I've seen her act out in such an unsightly manner. This will not go unreprimanded, while this flagrant threat does not deserve quick forgiveness. Please do not think lowly of us. I seem to have pushed my guard to the brink of exhaustion, so much so that one believes violence would be the answer if I can do anything to appease you. You need only ask, and I will do it. But know that I am Queen Yona." The Queen steadies her breath as she lifts her head, jewelry gently clinking. Scanning their faces, Yona watches the group hastily cover their jabber. However, their words have done their damage making Yona feel miserable but still overwhelmingly riddled with uncertainty.
"O-oh, no, no, no, we're sorry. Uh, you don't need to do that. It was immature of us to talk like that. Sorry, you heard that, but you seem nice, but we're just going to go."
The group leader nervously chirps up as she eyes the serious Khira. Another ally of Khloe's speaks up, nodding and clinging to each other's arms. "Thanks for not hurting us. Bye." Making their escape, crossing the connecting bride to the city. Yona's forlorn eyes linger on their retreating forms.
"What was that? That wasn't an apology at all! And Khira, what in the world got into you." Chroma scoffs as she perches her weapon on her back, eyes frantically scanning her two friend's faces trying to understand them. The younger guard pouts to herself and quietly mutters, "And you always get after me for not bringing shame to the Zora name..."
Despite the rowdy crowd's departure, the young women felt the air thick with tension. Meekness gnaws at Khira as she ducks her head down, too ashamed of her reckless actions and making Yona speak for her. She would indeed badger the younger guard, but to think she would act so brutishly was beyond hypocritical.
"I am profoundly ashamed that you had to see that, your Majesty. But saying I feel guilty for silencing their larks would be a lie. I will not tolerate such belligerence towards you and things they don’t wish to comprehend." The Zora grits her teeth, spitting out a response, rising to look at her liege's back. The young woman partially turns, sapphire flecks eyes glance at her taller lady-in-waiting, Yona dutifully declares.
"Allowing emotions to cloud and open the way to conflict isn't like you, and I understand your reasoning. I find myself appreciating the wild gesture, but I will not tolerate any of your outbursts. Lest you want to stay in my service, being the head of state, is to preserve the peace to all that come and go from Zora's Domain, even to those without respect. We must rise above and show kindness," Light Green's side fins sway as she shakes her head. Yona's hand waved for Chroma and Khira to follow suit. She swallows the biting taste in her mouth, cupping her hands before her chest. She absentmindedly picked at her claws; the sound of clicks enveloped the girls as they fell in line, resuming their protective flank. Exchanging worried looks between each other.
"This should go without saying, but please don't tell Sidon. He's been busy, returning from his valiant battle alongside the other sages protecting the land and handling a kingdom. Something so small should not plague his mind. I'm certain I will forget this soon enough." Yona sharply inhales as she tries to lift her spirits, but her words drip despondence. Her heart twists in painful knots, knowing she's going back on her promise of being truthful and open to her love.
"We won't breathe a word." The duo candidly answer as they make their way across the pristine bridge. While a robust familiar figure happily waves in the distance, welcoming them blissfully unaware of what occurred.
Tumblr media
The sinking feeling did, indeed, not disappear from Yona's mind. Their words echo in her head, and the festering sense of inadequacy and insecurity lurks in the corners of her mind. It had been a few days since her encounter, and she knew allowing such heated words to get to her was folly. Yona couldn't help her mind slipping into the depths of her doubt. Even to the point, her melancholic air alarmed the elderly councilmen and Exalted Dorephan. The new Queen lacked her signature sweet nature, replacing her charming aura with an absent mind.
While busy creating safe pathways and removing the debris strewn along the narrowing passage from the mainland to their Domain. Sidon grew worried for his Yona. It's been hard not to notice his citizens concerning whispers about her well-being circled the Domain, and his dearest barely stayed by his side after she visited Mipha Court. She seemed off-put and fidgety whenever he was near her. Even the little ones seemed fretful with Yona's unusual behavior, and her attendants acted peculiar, seemingly hiding something.
The warm afternoon sun beams down on Zora's Domain, an occasional breeze passing through his magnificent home. It's almost ironic that the weather contrasts the new King's worrisome thoughts.
"Naydra's eyes, What am I missing?" Sidon mutters, standing before the pristine balcony overseeing the Domain. His sharp eyes longingly linger on Zora's soft green form, watching her speaking with the fisherman, Mei. He was beyond glad the forgetful citizen returned from the Floating Fish Island. Admittedly busy, ensuring his best soldiers to Lookout Landing returned, Sidon remains steadfast in giving his people protection and grace as those before him. He was dutiful in looking after his people's well-being.
So many things happened in a whirlwind of events; first, it was the Upheaval, then the vile sludge desecrating his home, and finally, his unexpected coronation and marriage to his beloved, then assisting Link in his fight against Ganon. The royal Zora ponders if it was as overwhelming to her as it was for him. The young King certainly has no regrets, but the stress of it all tends to invade his mind even when the epic battle has ended.
Rambunctious giggles erupt from below, stirring him from his daze. His sharp eyes flicker between Mei waving to the young King and his darling Queen, now turned up to see him. A magnetic force pulled their eyes to meet, and he could feel his heart stop, breath hitch in his throat when a ghost of a bashful smile graced Yona's lips. Her golden adornments shine, accentuating her beautiful features. His cheeks flushed against his cold skin, and a heart-stopping smile painted his face. It could be only them in the world.
The moment broke too soon for his liking as Yona shyly averted her gaze. It looked like the floor was more enticing to her now; soft laughter rolled from him, uncaring of the whispered swoons and muttering about young love. Unable to tear his gaze away from Yona as the giggling fisherman bows and parts from the royal Zora. Nodding to something Mei told her, the young woman walks the stairs. Sidon's eyes follow her each step, and soon she stands by his side, making the void of her absence the past few weeks far more prominent than before.
"May we speak in private?" Yona's soft, tantalizing voice asks, her eyes peering up at him with sorrow and meekness clouding her usually cheerful aura. Sidon observes her expression, questioning what caused her heart such sadness.
Nodding to her request, he pauses, thinking of places for a private conversation. He knew the open grandeur of the Domain wasn't much for a solitary chat, so they had to travel somewhere close in case a danger arose but far enough so no curious ear listened. Coming to a solution, the crimson Zora answers, nodding to his Yona. "Of course, I'll have the guards notify my father if they need us."
The couple stroll beside each other to young Zora guarding the stairs to the Throne room. "If anything arises from my absence, find Queen Yona and I atop the Veiled Falls. Please tell the Exalt, thank you." Sidon instructs, giving them a polite smile and watching the faithful sentries obediently comply. In the corner of his peripheral vision, he hears the young woman's gasp. Yona’s eyes widen slightly at his chosen place.
"Now, shall we depart, Yona?" Sidon looks to his side. She doesn't meet his gaze but nods all the same. 'Still absorbed in her thoughts. I wish to know what's plaguing you so, my love.' The perplexed Zora thinks to himself, making their short journey to the Falls.
Tumblr media
The two sit on the edge of the Veiled Falls. Sidon surveys the landscape before them, the glistening architecture proudly towering as his head turns. An overwhelming sense of pride and wonder swirls in him, overlooking his gorgeous home. The loud water tirelessly tumbles down the Falls, creating white noise and protecting them from potential eyes and ears, allowing them to speak as they please. The extroverted man feels the atmosphere melt away into a reflective air. His sweet empathic nature shines through, but so does a familiar nervousness, worrying he may say something unintentionally unkind. It's truly a marvel how Yona's mere presence reduced him to his shyer, composed side like they were still children.
"I know that I have been busy and thus haven't been with you by becoming crowned king, but it doesn't allow me to negate my husbandry duties… Now love, what plagues you so?" He tenderly questions his wife, seeing her steady her breath, and comes to terms with whatever tortured her.
"My King," Yona starts to wonder aloud, trying to gather the scramble of words in her mind. Her hands are cupping each other in her lap tense, and her shoulders tighten. While Sidon's brow furrows, she never addressed him formally like that before, not even when they were little ones. "I find myself wondering, has our union been too hasty? Am I truly the one you want besides you? Surely someone far more courageous would be a better match." Concern coupled with mere shock overtook him. His eyes widened, looking at her words. He desperately wants to cut her off and ask her, but he holds his tongue, wanting her to feel safe with him. 'Where in the world did this come from?'
"Those days ago, my attendants and I came across a group of people that brought up the validity of our union. I know it's foolish to listen, and in hindsight, it’s minuscule compared to the intrepid battle you returned from only months ago, but I want to be truthful about it." The woman explains. Yona stops turning to look at him. Vulnerability is etched on her face as he patiently waits for her sign to speak.
"If this has made you worry for this long, it’s no small deal. So that's what you've been dwelling on. Do you doubt my feelings?" He politely utters out, the sick tightening in his chest as he waits in anticipation of her answer. Yona says nothing, in silent agreement. She scolds herself for hurting him so much as he rises from his spot, holding his crimson hand for her. The young woman reaches for him as they stand together.
"You recall the importance of this place, yes? This was the last time I saw my sister alive. Days after, we came to mourn after being informed about my sister being trapped in Ruta. I ran to this place to drown in my tears, where no one could hear me. My desperate attempts to swim upstream, this mighty Fall, fell flat. Then miraculously, you came. You found me in the pool,"
"Crying together in each other's arms, I remember. I asked where you were, and I found you here trying to hide." Sidon's large hands engulf Yona's as she jumps in. The young woman knowing this story well, caressing her thumbs around his palms.
"Yes. At that moment, I saw someone I could call a friend. I discovered someone who could see all of me without fearing judgment. Someone that looked at the depths of my sadness and allowed me to grieve unashamed. Someone that I could share my accomplishments with. We were arranged to marry, but I was elated when my father informed me. I could not imagine anyone else by my side. You've continued to be a beloved companion. I fell in love with your compassionate, intelligent, selfless nature. Your ability to know what's troubled me among countless others made me want to return the favor tenfold," Sidon tenderly divulged, finally noticing Yona meet his eye.
The pure warm adoration in his remarks left the doubtful royal speechless. Strings of wispy white clouds pass overhead, shading the two. "I want to continue growing alongside you as the years pass. I want you to know that I will always love you. You, Yona, Are the only one I want to have on my side. I love you with all my heart." Sidon slips his hand away and brushes underneath her side fins, cupping her cheek and stroking her face as if trying to dispel all her worries from her mind. The smaller Zora nuzzles into his calloused hard-working hand, feeling at peace now unyielding to keep her gaze away from his steady eyes.
"I-I should not have allowed a stranger's words to cause such dismay. I'm sorry for doubting your devotion," She pauses, golden eyes fluttering closed, smooshing her cheek into his hand, angry at herself for significantly impacting how she acted towards him and those in the Domain.
"Will you forgive me?" Shame and relief wash over her, watching Sidon nod at her inquiry. His arm snakes around her waist while tugging her close to his chest. She hears the rapid pounding of his heart, feeling tears threaten to spill from her eyes. Willing them away momentarily, she peels from his broad chest, tugging at the gleaming silver prince his chest piece down.
Standing on her tippy toes, Yona wraps her arms around him, leaning into him while Sidon's finned arms securely encase her body in his. They share a sweet moment, their eyes slowly shut, and their lips collide in a kiss. Sparks fly across the two as Sidon deepens the kiss leaning toward her soft lips, wishing to melt into her touch. Quicken groans and gasps escape their lips, and hot puffs of air roll onto their mouths as they kiss again. It felt like gravity pulled them together again, as if it was torture to stay apart for even the air.
Savoring the taste of salt on their tongues, their lungs burn, taunting them to breathe momentarily. Begrudgingly, Yona pulled away. First, labored rasps heave from her petite frame, now noticing that Sidon lifted her from the ground pressing her close to his chest and sitting in his arms. The loud drumming of their hearts pounds in their ears as they silently look at each other. The noisy waterfall downs out their unsteady breaths as they slowly feel a smile perk on their warm faces.
"That wasn't an answer, my love." Mischievously scolding her loyal husband, Yona laughs to herself as he feigns cluelessness. She doesn't want to let go, reveling in his arms and in the love he gave her. "It wasn't? Well, I might need more time to convince you then." Sidon releases a husky chuckle, his voice a tinge of playfulness and desire, his eyes crinkling as his charming smile shines down at Yona, bringing her close again to steal another kiss.

Kemeticism Under the Advice of PtahHotep, the Great One, Vizier of the Pharaoh Isesi
I have mentioned a few times now the teachings of the PtahHotep, the divine father, who lived in the era of the Old Kingdom of Egypt. His teachings are of great influence to me and would be of great use and importance to any practicing Kemeticist who truly desires to know the spirituality of Kemet, of the Netjer, and of the ancient Egyptians. Thus I’ve decided to start a series of posts to share his teachings with those ready to listen, and to explain in greater detail what lessons we can glean from each piece of the great Vizier’s wisdom.
There are 37 maxims and 9 epilogues, but for this post, we will be starting with the prologue. The translation we will be using will generally be Christian Jacq’s, however we will also analyze the direct translation. Jacq’s translation is used to communicate Ptah-Hotep’s ideas in terms and vernacular more familiar to the English language and to modern times. However, a great deal of the time the two translations are quite similar.
Translation of Prologue:
Here is wisdom taught and set down by the noble one, the leader, the divine father, beloved of God, the one who listens in the six great domains, the one whose word forever brings peace to the whole country, the town’s highest official, the Vizier Ptah-Hotep, the great one, serving under His Majesty the King of Upper Egypt, whose symbol is the Sedge, and the King of Lower Egypt, whose symbol is the Bee, the Pharaoh Isesi. May the King live according to the eternity of cycles and the infinity of the instant.
Here is what the director of the town, the Vizier Ptah-Hotep says:
‘Sovereign, my master, old age is upon me, my great age has drained away, exhaustion and weakness have overcome me and I spend each day sleeping as if back in infancy. My eyesight is failing, my ears are growing deaf. There is no strength in my heart. My mouth is silent, it speaks no longer. Thoughts fade and memory fails. All my bones hurt constantly. What was good is now bad; taste has completely vanished. The effects of old age on humans are detestable in every way. My nose is blocked, it can no longer breathe. It is as painful to stand as to sit down.
‘May it be decreed that Ptah-Hotep, this your servant here present, fashion a stick for his old age in the form of a spiritual son. Let me pass on to him the words of those who know how to listen, the instructions of the ancestors, the guides, who, long ago, listened to the divine powers. May I, Ptah-Hotep, succeed in doing this for you. May conflicts be averted thanks to the spiritually aware and may the two banks of the river of life work in your favour.’
His Divine Majesty, the Pharaoh, said: ‘Ptah-Hotep, teach your disciple the word of the Tradition, and may it be a model for the children of the great ones. Once the perfect thought has been expressed, may they be suffused with understanding, for no one is born a sage.’
Here begin the maxims of the accomplished Word of the noble one, leader, divine father, beloved of God, eldest son of the Pharaoh, partaking of his essence, the town’s highest official, the Vizier Ptah-Hotep, teaching knowledge to the ignorant, and the law of the accomplished Word.
For those who listen there is benefit and enlightenment, but those who let it pass will be the losers.
Breakdown:
The first paragraph is an essential introduction of names and titles honoring both the sender/writer of this message, and the receiver, the Great Pharaoh Isesi. From the last line there is a revealing of an idea commonly related to eastern ideologies, and from then on we can find detailed lessons with close gazes.
Lesson
Jacq’s translation
Direct translation
There is a cycle to the earth and a cycle of life which is unbreakable. As well, within even an instant lay an infinity of understanding and perception.
“May the King live according to the eternity of cycles and the infinity of the instant.”
“May He (King Isesi) live according to the eternity of cycles and the eternity of the instant…”
Youth passes into old age; nothing lasts. Connection to our bodies is worth very little. The cycle of life and aging takes us all.
“My master, old age is upon me… exhaustion and weakness have overcome me and I spend each day sleeping as if back in infancy. My eyesight is failing, my ears are growing deaf… no strength in my heart… thoughts fade and memory fails… what was good is now bad.”
“Sovereign, my master, old age has come, a grand old age has struck, weariness has arrived, weakness occurs again. He* (Ptah-Hotep) spends each day as if he had returned to infancy. The eyes are diminished, the ears** constricted, for the one whose heart is tired feels his strength faltering, the mouth… no longer speaks, the heart… does not remember yesterday anymore. The bones are painful due to the length of existence, what is good becomes bad.”
The guidance of our ancestors is a path to our future. The translated term ‘ancestors’ in this context does not indicate that people have been left behind, but instead that they open our path to knowledge as they lay their lessons before us.
“Let me pass on to him the words of those who know how to listen, the instructions of the ancestors, the guides, who, long ago, listened to the divine powers.”
“… would that I could tell him (a spiritual son, i.e a student) the words of those who listen, the directives of those who are in front and who, in times gone by, listened to the divine powers.”
Being spiritually aware avoids conflicts
“May conflicts be averted thanks to the spiritually aware.”
“May the conflicts be rejected, according to those men and women who know***…”
The perfect thought can be expressed but it must be met with perfect understanding. Even with understanding, it must be comprehended fully and enacted within one’s own mind, emotions, and thought process. This is why it is called perfect understanding.
“Once the perfect thought has been expressed, may they be suffused with understanding…”
“May understanding penetrate him (a spiritual son), every correctness of the heart has been said to him…”
No one is born a sage; it something learned and mastered by those capable of opening their minds.
“… for no one is born a sage.”
“… (for) no one is a sage from birth.”
Listening will lead to comprehension, understanding, and enlightenment.
“For those who listen (to the accomplished word) there is benefit and enlightenment; those who let it pass will be the losers.”
“… teaching the ignorant towards knowledge and towards the law of the accomplished word; here is what is luminous**** for whoever listens, but vacuous for whoever bypasses it.”
* - Authors frequently change personal pronoun in Egyptian texts, from ‘he’ to ‘I’ and vice versa.
** - Ears can be translated even more literally to ‘living ones’, as listening is the basic spiritual principle behind Kemetic thought; life penetrates man through the ear. Listening is of utmost importance.
*** - Knowing is to understand and adhere to one’s teachings, and thus sources of conflict can be avoided.
**** - Luminous is translated from the word akhet, meaning useful, luminous, profitable, and enlightening.
So, despite being no more than an introduction, there is a lot to learn from these words, and it is important to dissect and understand what is said here by Ptah-Hotep as much as possible, as they are the only remnants of his wisdom.
When one practices Kemeticism, they have a duty to understand its’ culture and its’ way of thinking. Unlike Christianity, or any of the other Abrahamic religions, there is no greater figure to lead us anymore. No priest leads ceremonies so we may blindly follow, and they do not preach. Even in ancient Egypt there were few ceremonies practiced with common citizens. It is a duty and responsibility—as well as a sign of respect to the Gods—to understand and enact proper knowledge, speech, and most importantly, perfect listening. Kemeticism is most comparable to eastern religions, and in these practices, when one wants to learn the ways of their chosen religion, they choose a spiritual master. Someone to guide them towards enlightenment, the betterment of mind and soul, and the proper way to worship. In the case of Kemeticism the spiritual master is called a sage, and takes on a spiritual son (who is usually not blood related, but instead takes lessons from the sage as a son would from a father). With no surviving strains of the original Egyptian worship, we must look to what remains in texts, which is what makes Ptah-Hotep’s teachings so valuable, and thus why it is so important to study his maxims as intensely and thoroughly as possible. As you can see, even from an introduction one can glean a good deal of information.
Ptah-Hotep’s words are suffused with teachings and understanding of his world, of the eternally present Rule (which is the Rule of Ma’at). The perfectness of his words come from a lifetime of honing the art of perfect listening which, as mentioned before, is a cornerstone of Kemetic thought. The perfect word can be spoken but it is worth little without perfect listening, in turn leading to perfect understanding.
This practice takes time; as is stated clearly, no one is born a sage; no one is born enlightened. Using the guidance of our ancestors as a path to lead us forward is a great aid in this process of gaining understanding, however it is important to note that in this context, ancestors does not necessarily mean our direct predecessors. It more accurately defines the old masters, priests, and sages of the Kemetic faith. Although these people are gone, and the chain link connection of master and spiritual son has been terminated for over a thousand years, we are still connected to our ancestors through listening to the advice which remains, once more highlighting the importance of Ptah-Hotep’s text. By opening our ears—the Living Ones—we can open ourselves to the wisdom, understanding, and enlightenment which stands ever before us.
Enlightenment breaks us from a cycle of suffering. It allows us to live in accordance with Ma’at—a Rule of harmony, balance, and truth. Ma’at personified is a Goddess who symbolizes this Rule.
“The Rule of Ma’at is simultaneously the precision, the truth, the harmony and the coherence of the universe. From this flows civilizations and society’s equilibrium, provided there exists a pharaoh (leader, ruler) willing and able to apply Ma’at in every sphere, from the most abstract to the most concrete… in the absence of Ma’at reign disorder, injustice, violence, and the realm of darkness. Therefore, come what may, the sage must follow the path of Ma’at, let Ma’at be the inspiration of his words and deeds.” (The Wisdom of Ptah-Hotep, Christian Jacq, p. xv)
By listening well to Ptah-Hotep’s words we can better understand the Rule, and thus comprehend the natural flow of the universe. As we move forward in reading the lessons and maxims of Ptah-Hotep, this Rule is better explained as more than just cohesion of the universe. Its’ effect is overarching on all things great and small, and it cannot be changed by any human endeavors. Indeed our choice is only to flow with the universe or attempt in vain to fight against Ma’at, which only leads to suffering, for only what the Gods ordain comes to pass. Ma’at lives on past us, and despite all the vanity of humans, has not been disturbed since the beginning. Understanding this essence of Kemetic thought is paramount to understanding the universe of the Netjer, and to achieving peace and oneness with the universe and the Gods.
In my next post we will discuss the first maxim and break it down in the same way we have done with the prologue in this post.
For those who listen there is benefit and enlightenment, but those who let it pass will be the losers.

A research team at Fudan University has built the fastest semiconductor storage device ever reported, a non‑volatile flash memory dubbed “PoX” that programs a single bit in 400 picoseconds (0.0000000004 s) — roughly 25 billion operations per second. The result, published today in Nature, pushes non‑volatile memory to a speed domain previously reserved for the quickest volatile memories and sets a benchmark for data‑hungry AI hardware.
Smashing the speed ceiling
Conventional static and dynamic RAM (SRAM, DRAM) write data in 1–10 nanoseconds but lose everything when power is cut. Flash chips, by contrast, hold data without power yet typically need micro‑ to milliseconds per write — far too slow for modern AI accelerators that shunt terabytes of parameters in real time.
The Fudan group, led by Prof. Zhou Peng at the State Key Laboratory of Integrated Chips and Systems, re‑engineered flash physics by replacing silicon channels with two‑dimensional Dirac graphene and exploiting its ballistic charge transport.
By tuning the “Gaussian length” of the channel, the team achieved two‑dimensional super‑injection, which is an effectively limitless charge surge into the storage layer that bypasses the classical injection bottleneck.
“Using AI‑driven process optimization, we drove non‑volatile memory to its theoretical limit,” Zhou told Xinhua, adding that the feat “paves the way for future high‑speed flash memory.”
One billion cycles in a blink
Co‑author Liu Chunsen likens the breakthrough to shifting from a U‑disk that writes 1,000 times per second to a chip that fires 1 billion times in the blink of an eye. The previous world record for non‑volatile flash programming speed was about two million operations per second.
Because PoX is non‑volatile, it retains data with no standby power, a critical property for next‑generation edge AI and battery‑constrained systems. Combining ultra‑low energy with picosecond write speeds could remove the long‑standing memory bottleneck in AI inference and training hardware, where data shuttling, not arithmetic, now dominates power budgets.
Industrial and strategic implications
Flash memory remains a cornerstone of global semiconductor strategy thanks to its cost and scalability. Fudan’s advance, reviewers say, offers a “completely original mechanism” that may disrupt that landscape.
If mass‑produced, PoX‑style memory could eliminate separate high‑speed SRAM caches in AI chips, slashing area and energy. It can enable instant‑on, low‑power laptops and phones, and support database engines that hold entire working sets in persistent RAM.
The device can also strengthen China’s domestic drive to secure leadership in foundational chip technologies. The team did not disclose endurance figures or fabrication yield, but the graphene channel suggests compatibility with existing 2D‑material processes that global fabs are already exploring. “Our breakthrough can reshape storage technology, drive industrial upgrades and open new application scenarios,” Zhou said.
What happens next
Fudan engineers are now scaling the cell architecture and pursuing array‑level demonstrations. Commercial partners have not been named, but Chinese foundries are racing to integrate 2D materials with mainstream CMOS lines.

The Ever-Growing Power of Small Models
Exploring the Impact of Compact AI with Insights from Top AI Development Companies in London
In an era where artificial intelligence breakthroughs often come with ever-larger model sizes, from GPT-3 to GPT-4 and beyond, a quieter yet powerful revolution is emerging—the rise of small AI models. These compact yet highly capable models are transforming how businesses, developers, and organizations approach machine learning and AI deployment.
While the tech world has long focused on massive neural networks with billions of parameters, a growing movement within the AI community is focused on making AI smarter, not just bigger. And this is where the best AI development companies in London are making a name for themselves—by helping businesses harness the power of small models to create fast, scalable, and cost-effective AI systems.
What Are Small Models in AI?
Small models in AI refer to machine learning or neural network models with fewer parameters compared to large foundational models like GPT-4 or Google’s PaLM. These models are optimized for:
Low-latency inference
Lower memory usage
Edge-device deployment
Faster training times
Greater energy efficiency
Examples include:
DistilBERT – a compressed version of BERT
TinyML – models optimized for microcontrollers
LLaMA (Low-level Language Model) – Meta’s efficient open-source language model
MobileNet – optimized for mobile and edge AI applications
Many AI development services in London are now focused on developing or integrating such models to meet the growing demand for lightweight, scalable, and affordable AI solutions.
Why Small Models Are Gaining Traction
Despite the buzz around large-scale generative AI, small models offer several distinct advantages—especially for startups, enterprises with limited infrastructure, or companies focused on real-time, local AI use.
1. Faster Performance at the Edge
Small models excel in scenarios where low latency is critical. From AI-powered wearables and IoT devices to on-premise business applications, these models offer instant responsiveness without relying on cloud servers. This is particularly useful for industries like:
Healthcare (e.g., patient monitoring devices)
Retail (e.g., real-time customer interaction tools)
Manufacturing (e.g., predictive maintenance on factory equipment)
An experienced AI developer in London can help customize and fine-tune small models to deliver edge performance while maintaining high accuracy.
2. Lower Infrastructure and Energy Costs
Large AI models require massive cloud infrastructure and consume a great deal of energy. Small models, on the other hand, can run efficiently on lower-end hardware, dramatically reducing both costs and carbon footprints.
This makes them ideal for companies that want to deploy AI without investing heavily in cloud infrastructure. Many environmentally conscious organizations are also turning to AI development companies in London to create green AI solutions using compact models.
3. Easier Customization and Fine-tuning
Small models are easier to retrain and fine-tune using proprietary or domain-specific data. For example, a retail company in London might work with an artificial intelligence development company in London to train a small recommendation engine tailored specifically to their product catalog and customer behavior.
Because they require fewer computational resources, teams can iterate faster, test more models, and deploy updates more quickly.
4. Greater Privacy and Compliance
With growing data privacy regulations like GDPR in the UK and EU, keeping data local is becoming a priority. Small models can be deployed on-premises or at the edge, enabling organizations to run AI workloads without uploading sensitive data to the cloud.
For sectors like healthcare, finance, and law—where data protection is non-negotiable—this is a game-changer. That’s why many compliance-driven businesses are seeking help from an AI development company in London to implement privacy-focused AI models.
Use Cases Where Small Models Outperform
Despite their compact size, small models have shown remarkable results in a variety of real-world applications:
Customer Support Automation – Lightweight NLP models handling basic queries on websites and apps
Document Classification – Fast and accurate sorting of documents, emails, and PDFs
Visual Recognition – Embedded image classifiers in surveillance and security systems
Voice Assistants – On-device speech recognition for smart homes and vehicles
Chatbots and Virtual Agents – Compact conversational models that serve thousands of users daily
These use cases are increasingly being supported by specialized AI development services in London, who understand how to optimize for both performance and efficiency.
Small Models vs. Large Models: When to Choose What?
Factor
Small Models
Large Models
Latency
Instant responses
Delays due to API or cloud
Cost
Low compute cost
High GPU/cloud requirements
Deployability
Edge-ready, on-premise
Requires cloud infrastructure
Customization
Easy to fine-tune
Requires substantial data and compute
Accuracy
Good for narrow tasks
Excellent at general reasoning
Scalability
High with minimal resources
High, but costly to scale
In many cases, businesses are opting for a hybrid approach—using large models for general tasks and small models for specific, repeatable use cases.
The Role of AI Development Companies in London

Whether you’re launching an AI-driven app, automating customer service, or building a smart device, a reliable AI developer in London can ensure your small model strategy delivers big results.
How to Start Building with Small Models
Here’s a roadmap to effectively integrate small models into your product or business operations:
1. Define the Objective
Identify the problem you want to solve and whether it needs real-time inference, privacy, or cost efficiency.
2. Assess Available Models
Consult with an artificial intelligence development company in London to review open-source options (e.g., MobileNet, TinyBERT) or create custom models tailored to your needs.
3. Prototype and Evaluate
Build a lightweight proof-of-concept, test with your data, and evaluate based on latency, accuracy, and resource usage.
4. Optimize and Deploy
Use model quantization, pruning, and distillation to reduce size without losing performance. Deploy to edge devices, cloud, or on-prem systems.
5. Monitor and Iterate
Track model performance, gather feedback, and continuously update models for accuracy and relevance.
The Future of Small Models
The future of small models is bright and expanding rapidly. Key developments to watch include:
Open-source innovation: More organizations are contributing to compact, efficient model architectures
