The way open and closed eyes are used in Epic is so interesting to me, because yeah there is the 'The Underworld' and 'Love in Paradise' parallel, but it already starts in 'Just a Man' when Odysseus tells the infant:
"Close your eyes and spare yourself the view
How could I hurt you?"
In that moment, he believes that if Hector's son just closes his eyes, he won't witness this horrible thing Odysseus is about to do to him, that he can be shielded from all the bad Odysseus has done.
So, in Odysseus mind the closing of eyes is a reprieve of the horrors, which is interesting when he comes to Aeolus with the wind bag. Specifically, Aeolus in 'Keep Your Friends Close' telling him:
"Just keep your eyes open."
This kind of echoes that messaging of him having to do this hard thing - stay awake so the wind bag doesn't get opened and he doesn't have to kill his crew - and then he'll be home. He has to do the hard thing, witness it and then he'll be home. The moment, he takes a reprieve from witnessing the bad, it goes wrong. Then we get to 'The Underworld' where we get:
"All I hear are screams, every time I dare to close my eyes"
Odysseus can't get that reprieve of closing his eyes anymore, he tries to look away from all the bad that has happened, the bad he's done, but he can't escape it anymore, it follows him every time he even dares to think of turning away from his past, his actions.
Which to me makes 'Love in Paradise' all the more horrifying, because then we get Odysseus on the edge of the cliff, saying:
"Let me close my eyes"
He's begging to escape having to witness the bad that is happening to him. He knows that closing his eyes won't let him escape his own actions, that he'll still hear the screams, but he's still desperate to close his eyes. He is now the infant, wanting to spare himself the view of what is being done to him. He would much rather be held company by his own actions, than Calypso's. And that is just terrifying to me.
So... you put some points in DEX right? ...right??

[Video description: A person brings a book to a library desk and says Hi, can I check out this book? The librarian says oh sure. You just have to roll for it. The librarian offers the patron a D20 with a mischievous smile. The patron rolls. It is a one. She looks at the one in horror and then slowly up to the librarian, whose pleasant expression becomes a fierce grimace as he winds up to literally throw the book at her. The video cuts off abruptly. /description]
do you think there could be a weird route with your oc ham? maybe like RadioRaze or something? anyways have a good day!!! :)
i like to think a weird route with ham would be pretty much impossible bc ham is a kinda stubborn and maybe-a-little-mean-on-purpose 12 year old with no allegiances NDNDNHSJ she’d find out lancer was in your inventory and just talk to him the whole time and ignore you and the only reason he doesn’t immediately ditch you for trying to tell her what to do is bc lancer is there and he wants to talk to him bc he seems like fun. have a good day too :]
i think i can understand the notion of people wanting to kiss fictional characters or whatever similar now bc all i can think of rn is to kiss the personification of Wonderful Nothing on the mouth sloppily

From the very moment they'd received news of the oncoming hurricane, Genesis hadn't been able to shake her anxiety. She was certainly happy to know that Juliana was safe at home with her mother, though there was nothing the woman wanted more than to be with her daughter. If Juliana had been there at the school, her and Cameron could have not only been there to keep their daughter safe, but calm her fears throughout the storm as well.
While she had been lucky enough to talk to her and her mother on the phone about an hour before, high winds had taken down a few of the phone lines, leaving them without service or any form of communication for the time being. As she roamed the halls, the brunette listened to the sea of chatter, searching for anyone with a single bar until she stumbled upon Callum near the doors to the gymnasium. "Cal, hi. I'm so glad you're okay. Is Avie with you? Juliana's at home with my mom and I can't stop thinking about her. We talked about an hour ago but.." Genesis could hear her voice crack, its shakiness matching the rather erratic rhythm of her heart.

Taking a break from the crowd, Maika and her friends had decided to hit up the carnival before dinner. While fair rides always felt a little questionable in terms of safety, no festival was complete without a ride on the ferris wheel. Filing into lines, Maika allowed the couples to go first, boarding into the gondolas together, even if it would likely leave her to ride alone. She could still remember all of the times she'd been on the same ride with friends back in high school, and then again with Harvey every year after.
While it would be a different experience, Maika wouldn't allow the circumstances to ruin one of her favorite summer traditions now that she was back in town. 'Watch your step, ma'am. Just one? Do you mind if we pair you with another single rider to make the line move a little faster?' Nodding her head, Maika was quick to agree. At least until the ride operator stepped aside to reveal just who would be riding alongside her. Some traditions really did die hard, she supposed.
