Woe, my Drainfolk headcanons upon yee

All my art and rambles under the cut because it's a whoooole ramble-y mess since i'm bad at. explaining my thoughts.

Okay so I tried my best to take a swing at this while also keeping these guys recognizable to the series. sorry if its a mess nmbnvbv.

I headcanon drainfolk the result of generations of normal humans warped from the influence of the drain which, similar to the rift, has properties that augments the creatures that exist near it, though the drain is much slower and a generational effect instead of the immediate- rapturous effect from the rift. Since the original population has been here for a good many of hundred years, they look incredibly different from average ggg humans (which also are unique against irl humans. looking at those inhuman skin tones) while still being directly related to them. Many traits developed were essential to help them survive their new lives in the drain ( claws, arm strength + length, growth cycles) since the place was incredibly hard to live in. Anatomy:

Drainfolk have very little sexual dimorphism - most of them all share the shorter and stout build and are covered in hair. the main differences are actually the fact AFAB individuals lack retractable claws and they tend to (usually) be taller and fuzzier on average). Drainfolk also display pads on the entire palms of their hands and slitted pupils. Development:

Drainfolk physically develop into adults at a very different pace than normal humans, while mental development stays the same. Staying incredibly small for most of their childhood with smaller growth spurts before entering a rapid period of growth close to adulthood. The sudden change in size causes a sudden shift to higher caloric intake and the occasional VERY CONFUSED teenager. The need to stay small for prolonged periods of time is because many places in the drain require you to climb in VERY dangerous areas, and the solution was to stay small as long as possible while your parents carried you until you were strong enough to climb around yourself.

Metamorphs:

Outliers in the drainfolk population- They tend to be around double the height of their compatriots and trade a lot of the heavier fuzz for a lighter coat and thicker skin. Their claws also grow longer as a form of defense.

Metamorphs are the term for drainfolk who after reaching adulthood, undergo a secondary growth spurt. This is caused by being thrust into various forms of responsibility and power- similar to how a dominant male orangutan will become larger or the dominant male fish will change size/gender if the large leader female dies. Either sex can become a metamorph, though its slightly more common in Afab individuals because of child rearing. This is also commonly seen in leaders of established groups of varying legality and in the eldest of a gaggle of an orphaned group of drainfolk after reaching adulthood. Any spot where the role of responsibility is shouldered is a role that can cause a drainfolk to become a metamorph.

Bonus:

Drainfolk even into their adulthood tend to climb up on people they deem close to them as a sign of affection or when they are scared / stressed for comfort. It is very common to see a drainfolk climb onto another the same size to the absolute annoyance or acceptance of the one being afflicted with the behavior. The behavior is very normalized in the drain but may come off as weird to people not aware of it.

[riakhou]

An introductory post to riakhou, the species

Riakhou are semi-aquatic, carnivorous sophonts currently living on a couple different planets and habitable moons.

Most of their population is found on Wuvum, a tidally locked planet orbiting the dwarf star Nêf Hàkko. The second largest riakhou population is on a located around 3,5 light years away waterworld called l’Noua. L’Noua is in the same star system as the human homeworld. The two species made first contact many years ago, and currently the worlds are in contact with one another (albeit waiting at least 7 years — in Human Standard Years — for an answer is a bit inconvenient. Faster than Light communication, let alone travel, has not yet been invented).

The colour of riakhou skin depends not so much on genetics as it does on the chemicals in water they develop in as larvae. Freshly after hatching riakhou larvae are clear and transparent.

Their evolutionary ancestors were amphibious cave-dwellers domesticated and genetically modified by another alien species. Some of the most notable changes made to them include: making them seeing, (Fun fact. In the oldest riakhou languages the word for sight literally means ‘alien sense’), having “cuter” limbs and longer back/torso, being smaller, less venomous, less fertile, more docile and spending more time on land than their ancestors.

Due to the fact they were essentially pets, riakhou can exhibit a wide range of phenotypes, including variations in patterns, crest shapes and sizes, as well as plumage (as in body plumage being present in addition to featherfins).

After “prototype” riakhou were either abandoned or deliberately rewilded, they started developing their own civilisation, eventually contacting other species and taking to the stars. (More lore on that in another post).

Yara is driven by her fear.

She has grown up in an environment that hasn’t allowed for her to be in touch with other people, that has left her mostly on her own. She, like many others in Seras, has been force to grow up too early, her childhood dedicated to living and surviving instead of growing and learning. She has no real friends or companions, none except for her trusty pet raven Mavros.

This has stunted her in a way. She’s naive and doesn’t pick up well on social cues, or understand most things that kids her age like or are interested in. She trusts too easily despite her caution, and has little to no knowledge of the outside world, having been stuck inside the borders of her childhood home for so long. The only thing she has to protect her is this ever-growing fear. It’s the one thing that has left her safe, alive. She’s determined to hold onto it until the day she dies.

But despite all this, Yara truly is, at her core, a kind and friendly person. Although she does have walls up at the start, with some genuine acts of care, she is very easily won over. It doesn’t take her long to warm up to people, and from then on she will be an absolute nuisance. She loves to chatter away, taking about anything and everything, and even with her fear of the unknown, she still has many skills and positive traits to offer.

She is a girl who has been subjected to loss at a young age, yet who is just hoping, secretly, for someone to pull her out of this loop of lonely nothingness and be apart of something grand.

Currently Yara is set to venture out of the oh-so familiar boundary of her home and follow Aster, a strange boy who has introduced himself as one of the Immortai, the selected few who make it out of Noroi attacks alive. Yara isn’t too sure about him, but any place that will keep her safe from the Noroi is a place she is willing to head towards.

Currently the duo are headed towards the Seventh Sector, Aster’s home. He promises that the leader there will have the answers that she seeks, and help her figure out the curse that the Noroi apparently bestowed upon her. Neither of them have been able to figure out what the curse is get, despite the haunting visions that stir her awake continuously.

Yara isn’t quite sure if she even is an Immortai after all. It almost feels like as if she is something entirely different altogether….

🌸 𐙚₊˚⊹ APPEARANCE ⊹꒦₊˚ɞ🌷

She looks like what you’d expect from a farmer girl. She has long, tangled honey-blonde hair she always pulls into four loose bubble braids. Her bangs are swept to the side, with thick strands framing her face. She has a round face shape and peachy skin, a faint dusting of freckles splashing across her cheeks. Her eyes are big and wide, a gentle mint-green that appears to be faintly blue while in the sunlight.

She has a very small, petite frame, which earns her the nickname of “pipsqueak” by Aster. Despite being quite short, she’s pretty curvy and on the chubbier side, with a pear-shaped figure, and wide hips.

Small scars, pale and faded, can be found along her hands and arms, though they’re barely noticeable anymore.

Aesthetic || Yara has a sort of twee vibe to her. She loves long, flowy dresses, a mismatch of fabrics, and clothes that are easy to move in while still comfortable. She also can be seen wearing a lot of jewelry, mainly bead necklaces and bracelets that she has made herself.

🌸 𐙚₊˚⊹ ORIGINS ⊹꒦₊˚ɞ🌷

Yara comes from the fifth region inside Seras, Dara, which was known for its long, winding Rockies, stunning mountainscapes, and beautiful greenery. Now, due to the rise of Noroi and fall of civilization as humans had known it, the Rockies are dangerous and tumultuous terrain, the sparkling shades of green that had once covered the mountains now shades of unforgiving gray and black.

Yara’s family comes from a long line of lumberjacks and hunters. Despite the forests being corrupted by the onslaught of the apocalypse, the wood is still harvestable. In recent years, there has been an increase of fruits that have begun to grow without the help of chemicals and factories, allowing for the poorer citizens to taste fresh vegetables again. Their family had even begun their own little garden, something Yara and her siblings were ecstatic about.

Yara had a fairly normal life as a child. She was one of the older children in the family, raised by more traditional parents who held their values of family and responsibility close to their chests. As a young girl, she was instilled with the beliefs of independence and resourcefulness, always helping out around the house with chores, errands, and babysitting.

Her family lived up in a more secluded part in the mountain, with their only contact to their nearest town being through long day trips for work, meaning that the children were all homeschooled. It left Yara with only her family to keep her company, but Yara didn’t care. Her family was a close and tight-knit one, all the siblings close friends despite all their disagreements, and Yara couldn’t have loved them more. They were all she ever needed in the world, even if the ideas of adventure frequently called to her.

It was only on the eve of her twelfth birthday when her entire reality changed, leaving Yara’s peaceful life on the mountain disrupted forever……

Yara comes from quite a large family. Second eldest to a group of six, she had a lot of responsibility from a young age to take care of the younger ones. Despite this burden, she was extremely close with all of her siblings, and had a good relationship with both of her parents, who she truly loves.

Apart from her family, she has built quite a life for herself at the Seventh Sector. Despite not being liked by all, she does have two close friends, Aster and Anya.

Aster was her first friend, and is still her best. He found her and rescued her from Noroi, and is a person that Yara found herself instantly attached to. He’s loud and rambunctious where she is quiet and reserved, and the two click like a puzzle piece. She doesn’t trust someone more in the world than him.

Anya was someone Yara met her first day at the Seventh Sector. A younger recruit, she’s bubbly and talkative, but shy at first, just as Yara herself is. Where Aster and Yara contrast each other nicely, Yara and Anya couldn’t be more similar. It’s a match made in heaven.

Yara has a pet raven named Pluto! He randomly passed through the barrier one day after her twelfth birthday, and has not left her side since. She adores him to death.

She’s read all the books in her house so much that she’s memorized all of them. Aster can hold the book up and she can recite them word-for-word.

She was closest to her mother.

She hadn’t ever had sugar before she met Aster. He brought her to a candy shoppe and she went NUTS.

Despite encountering Noroi on a day-to-day basis, she cannot fight to save her life. Aster is always swooping in and saving her (with much dramatics might I add).

She scares REALLY easily. Something which Aster takes full advantage of.

She has a beautiful singing voice. Her mother did too, and it brings Yara a strange sense of belonging to sing. (Pluto even joins in sometimes.)

Yuya Florence Twst- The Shooting star over the Castle

Yuya doesn’t have a consistent personality throughout the main story as they are constantly going through changes. This is how they protected themselves through their life doing it subconsciously despite not having their memories.Some might say they’re a bit of an actress.

Yuya’s true personality does shine through at times mainly when they actually get to relax. They can be childish, petty and pretty chaotic sometimes letting the intrusive thoughts win but still an overall friendly person. Even then Yuya isn’t one to tell others how they’re truly feeling especially if they’re hurting. Even with all those things Yuya does know how to take charge and deal with serious situations. They’re definitely not the goody two shoes some perceive them as more of a trouble maker everyone will later learn.

Yuya has thoughts of what were they like before Twst, this effects their relationships by them wondering if the way they are now is truly the real them. Would everyone still like me if I get my memories back and become myself again? Even with these thoughts Yuya still wants their memories back good or bad.

Yuya uses how others perceive them as to their advantage using this to navigate how to deal with situations.

Yuya doesn’t get their cardigan until Book 2 while everyone was visiting Trey.

The have a fight response most notable when they fought Riddle during orientation. Others thought it was some kind of adrenaline but Yuya does know how to fight and fight dirty.

Yuya was honestly in deep denial about being in Twst. Really much thought that they were in a dream up until the end of Book 2 from getting a scar from Leona’s overblot. This really woke them up to their new reality as before they thought “since I don’t belong here sure I’ll wake up to the place I truly belong.” [Also adding Yuya’s eyes technically wouldn’t be shown until this moment to show them waking up to reality]

Yuya develops a bit of an obsession for photography as the photos represents their memories. They hold these photos dearly scarred to forget again. Some say that Yuya’s photography can be scary being it can be used as blackmail

Yuya did have a hobby of journaling/ scrapbooking given the journal that they had in their bag when arriving to Twst but that was taken over by photography

The mirror called Yuya a shattered soul which not even Crowley understands why. This is due to their soul being shattered when being transported to Twst. Their soul will forever remain shattered

After every Overblot Yuya’s eyes will get darker they don’t really notice until after book 2. They will also get the full movie context. With movies not involved with the Overblots Yuya will get dreams in similar fashion and get the full movie after 3 dreams

Some of Yuya’s more noticeable habits has to be their strange ability to have everything in their pockets. No one knows where or how they even got it from. Another has to be staring only a few close to them can tell if Yuya likes or dislikes something by the way they stare.

Yuya is able to form bonds with many different beasts, creatures etc especially ghosts. Ghost often mistake Yuya as one of their own. Yuya thought being called a “beast tamer” was far fetched but can’t deny that they have a particular liking to them

Yuya grows insecure about the scar they gain after overblots even has troubles looking in the mirror.

It did take them awhile to warm up to others also given that in the beginning they were pretty quite. Grim, Ace and Deuce were the ones Yuya warmed up to the quickest.

Yuya does have conflicting feeling about being the Perfect but is scared of how others would treat them if they stopped.

Gave up on the thought of ever getting to go home during book 4 and focusing on how to get their memories.

Yuya does overblot which is triggered by them getting their memories back from fully dying in their original world.

Yuya never really asks for help for their self specifically but in a way that would help someone else. For example Grim asking them to call Crowley + text Ace and Deuce in book 4.

Yuya doesn’t really like the memory of orientation so doesn’t really attend things like assembly unless it something important like getting an Award. In the beginning they would get scolded but dropped it later on.

Yuya does sleep walk it’s a combination of stress/ Trauma and their shattered soul. When they sleep walk others will say they look like a wandering spirit.

Book 3 is when Yuya’s most noticeable changes happen waking up to their reality and changing the way they behave also every happening with Azul. After 3 Overblots they believe that this will be a reoccurring thing (they were right not to their shock)

Yuya is actually good at driving even when they have to be a bit reckless

💫Backstory💫

Yuya lived with her mom Lilian pretty happily. One day Lilian had to go on a work trip promising to take them to the aquarium when she gets back but that day never came.

At the age of 5 Yuya lost their mother and was sent to live with their Aunt and her family. At first everyone was pretty sympathetic to Yuya but the true colors showed after so time. The Adults in their life valued appearances over everything. A stubborn child didn’t fit into their picture perfect ideal. So Yuya had to learn how to fit themself into the role their Aunt wanted them to. Sometimes using their mom against them other times different punishment.

This made Yuya close off their emotions and change their personality to whatever is deems fit. Throughout the following years Yuya would see themselves as “A shiny trophy for them to show off”.Put others before yourself, Help others with whatever they need. Earning them being seen as the “Star” of the community. But the one thing Yuya remember the most is Don’t expect anything in return that’s selfish.

“And selfishness gets you punished”

Enduring for years Yuya at 13 started to grow resentful. It started with small things misplacing items mainly targeted at Aunt, Uncle and Damien. This gradually grew into destroying things causing fights in the house. Things came to a head during a family reunion Yuya now 15 had a fight with Damien which lead to them falling down the stairs.

This event turned the family upside down reveling things happening behind closed doors. The main factors were Desmond waiting to expose the family and doctors seeing other injuries on Yuya. This lead to Community shunning most of the family. Other members would claim to not have known anything trying to get in Yuya’s good graces.

Yuya and Yolonda were sent to live with their grandparents who had no involvement distancing themselves from the family long ago. They have this belief that leaving that house would solve the situation and make them happy but nothing. Given everything that happened Yuya was honestly just tired and didn’t really trust their grandparents. They ultimately chose just to go on with life and leave things behind once they go to college.

💫Entering TWST/ NRC💫

The day before Yuya was supposed to be heading off to culinary school they wanted to visit their mom’s grave one last time. Unfortunately after saying their goodbyes they ran into Damien.

Trying to ignore the nonsense he was spewing they walked away. This was supposedly the wrong move as he grabbed Yuya still yelling. How Yuya ruined the family, how selfish they were and so on.

Scared and annoyed , Yuya started to fight their cousin off. Their emotions finally boiling over sick of everything Yuya punched Damien to the ground screaming about why can’t anyone just leave them be, “l wish I could just disappear from this place away from you , away from everything”. Within only a few seconds of that wish Yuya heard the sound of horses running looking up to see the black carriage coming up behind her cousin then everything went black.

The thing is only half of Yuya’s soul got transported to Twst that day. The other half survived currently in critical condition at the hospital but doctors are unsure if they’ll recover.
