in a mishanks winter soldier au, i cant decide who id want to be the winter soldier. even just picking based on the reveal scene where buck's goggles fall off to reveal only his eyes (bc the mask stays on), i cant choose!

rambling about the pros for each under the cut lol.

with mihawk, the goggles fall off revealing his piercing yellow eyes, immediately recognizable and standing out from his dark hair and black face mask. ws!hawk could also give us longer-haired mihawk, and his return to himself could include shaving his sideburns and facial hair to the sharp style we all recognize, and maybe even a return to the sword if they still have the winter soldier specialize in guns. maybe extra angst of him losing an arm and then retraining with the sword once he gets back to himself. and ofc shanks as his counterpart would be unequivocally considered a good guy by the general public, and very wholesome and charming. closer to the cap mold than mihawk, in any case, lol.

with shanks, i'd say he seems like the more obvious answer for the winter soldier if we're thinking 1:1 comparison to bucky, since he's got the sunshine personality pre-turning, and he even loses the same arm bucky does. his hair would be signature for the ws in this au, ans his goggles would hide the scars. when they fall off for the reveal, not only would the scars stand out from the face mask, but his eyes would look kind. a different but just as effective sort of jarring from ws!mihawk's eyes in the big reveal.

a ws!shanks, however would make mihawk his cap counterpart, which is more interesting bc mihawk is really not a team captain type. in this au, i imagine the shichibukai would be the acting "hero" team, but they'd function more like the suicide squad and they'd overall be pretty infamous in the public eye, not having great reps as everyone would know they were "villains", too rowdy or troublesome to deal with and so they got offered a gov't contract instead. got frozen in time and the gov't was too unnerved with him to let him go off-leash, and mihawk signs on bc what else is he gonna do? and it became clear that they wouldn't stop bothering him 'til he does.

i suppose story-wise i'd be more tempted to pick ws!shanks bc i find mihawk in this strange position of being equivalent to captain america more interesting to write, but i also just can't let go of the reveal scene with mihawk's eyes standing out. and ws!mihawk could come with the angst of cap!shanks thinking that mihawk is just a rival who tolerates him until he saves shanks's life, and then he finds mihawk again as the winter solider...

but then there's cap!mihawk wandering around listlessly in the future bc his best rival sacrificed himself to save mihawk's life, and for what? but when he finds shanks again (he's only ever known one person with hair that vibrantly red, but that can't be... but then the goggles fall, and those gentle eyes!), shanks doesn't know him and he's nothing like his rival used to be, even if their skillsets are still on par, and cap!hawk has to contend with the fact that he doesn't miss a rival, he misses a friend--maybe even smth more than a friend, which he sees in hindsight shanks, his shanks, his old shanks, knew even if mihawk himself didn't, and now shanks is standing in front of him again and he needs--!

While Sansa seems to be the leader, she very much looks to you for guidance, even if you're younger. She's often hung on your opinion and thoughts, and if you did the same for her, you both would be talking in circles about what to do before Jeyne would interrupt and suggest a third thing, lest you two talk all day.

Sansa starts to admire things you fancy, even if she doesn't always understand why you like them - say for example, swords or bugs. She admires you, too, though that's obvious, and she's childishly delighted when you agree with her thoughts. When old nan tells stories about knights and princesses, in Sansa's mind, the knights always seem to have eyes like your's.

And while Sansa often daydreams about being a married Lady, just like her mother, sometimes a worry interrupts her thoughts. Won't you need to be married too? Doesn't that mean you'll have to go away? No, no, it's fine, you'll just visit and write to her. Sansa makes you promise to do so several times.

If you're of a much lesser rank than her, she's heartened by the thought of you being her handmaiden instead. Proper ladies need proper handmaidens, after all. Then you two wouldn't have to part at all! Whenever she's expressed these worries to her mother, Catlyn gently tells Sansa that it's just the way of things, and she'll find new companions and friends in her future husband's house. Sansa retorts she doesn't want new ones, she wants you.

Sansa likes to fuss about with your clothes and hair, just like her mother fusses with her's. If you aren't a girly type or appreciate touching, this can be exhausting. More than once you two have bickered because she wants to keep trying different hairstyles and you want to do something else. Jeyne or even Arya are the ones who interrupt it.

Speaking of Arya, if you're the type of little lady whose closer in personality and temperament, she's quite fond of you. Sansa can't help but feel jealous, even if she knows it's silly. And when she scolds Arya for something unladylike, and Arya retorts "but YN does it!", Sansa just huffs. "That's different!" "How is it different?" "It - it just is!"

Sansa would also pout if you play with the boys instead of her, especially if you're a little older. She very carefully walk through the mud in the sword yard or brave the high parts of Winterfell's walls where you're hanging about with Robb, Jon and Theon. She wants to remind you it isn't proper, but then you might send her away, so she just huffs and deals with it. If she's feeling clever, she'll claim she needs you for something right this minute and drag you off.

(The boys notice this behavior and think it's pretty funny. Robb knows all he has to do is tease you and Sansa will RUSH over to your defense)

Naturally, you're going with Sansa when she has to leave for King's Landing. It'll be so wonderful! She has so many fancies of being a Queen and you her handmaiden, and that means you can always stay by her side. And apart from that, there will be so many amazing things to see and do. She can hardly keep still at the thought, and spills it all you to, hoping you'll agree. Arya thinks her sister will be too preoccupied with you to care about princes or knights, but she's just fine with that. Better you than that awful prince and his dog.

🏵Margaery Tyrell🏵

She knew you were different from the start. Margaery has always had an endless stream of companions, from her cousins to the daughters of her mother's handmaidens. There was something so different about you though, and she just couldn't put her finger on it.

Being a charming little girl, it wasn't hard for Margaery to find out about you from the servants and other cousins. What you liked, where you were from, what your parents are like, and so on. Maybe if she shows an interest in these things, you'll be more inclined to play with her.

(You both being children, it really doesn't take much for you to want to play with her. Margaery forgets about using her gathered facts and just has fun).

Hanging out with her means playing with allll her cousins and companions too. Huge games of chase in the gardens, elaborate and dramatic plays, big tea parties with over-dressed dolls. The consistent thing is you're always Margaery's "pick" - you sit next to her, you play the knight if she's the princess, your doll is the sister of her doll so they can't be separated. Even in competitive games, she's more likely to team up with you than play against you. There's been more than a few girls who complained of you being the favorite, which Margaery doesn't deny.

If you're the sort of girl who prefers playing swords and being outside, Margaery adapts to that. She'll drag Loras along (he'll never turn down a mock sword fight), and sometimes he sneaks training swords out of the armory. Sometimes you're the villain who steals Margaery away, and Loras is the knight getting her back. Sometimes she demands you two switch roles 'so YN can keep me this time!'. You end up close to Loras, too.

She's used to being made much of by servants and companions alike, but no praise holds as much weight as your's, except maybe her mother's. She can become quite prideful if you're always praising her virtues and admiring her. Margaery is much the same with you, and she's always been physically affectionate. She likes holding hands, doing your hair, hugging and sharing a bed (though that's usually joined by a baby cousin or two). Highgarden is positively charmed by its little Lady Tyrell and her companion.

(Lady Olenna has notes you two are remarkably close, and that could probe useful in the future. She'd invite you two to her little private parties, often posing unusual riddles and questions to you.)

Being accomodating and considerate, Margaery is easy to get along with regardless if you're more social or more introverted. Being the former makes it easier to attend parties with her, and the latter means she'll be more understanding than most if you don't want to attend the endless feasts and social gatherings. She'll miss you, but she's delighted to be the exception - you may be sick of everyone else, but you'll let her stay (quietly) while you decompress. She'd be disappointed to be sent away, though she perks right up once you want to talk again.

Margaery figures she has some kind of crush as she gets older. Her other companions talk about boys in the same way she thinks about you. Margaery isn't opposed to boys, but she finds girls just as interesting, and you're the most interesting of all. She'd be a little hurt if you were chasing after some boy cousin of her's, or picked another girl over her. It takes her some time to formulate these thoughts and feelings. She has a gut feeling these aren't things you normally think if someone is just a friend. When she hears a wonderful love song one evening - one she's heard many times before, yet just now has it struck her - she begins to understand her feelings.

As she grows older, she underatands you can't truly be with her forever and ever. ... or could you? Important married ladies still get to have handmaidens. Would it trouble you to stay at her side? Would you rather have your own husband and family? These thoughts often bother Margaery. She goes to her grandmother with her troubles, and Lady Olenna is certainly inclined to help her favorite ...

⭐️Ashara Dayne⭐️

Though the Daynes were well-liked amongst the nobility of down, House Starfall was a quiet place. Ashara was a quiet girl, content to observe her more outgoing brother and parents visit with guests. Her parents felt a female companion might do her well, and Ashara was open to the idea. She liked playing with the many noble girls when they visited Sunspear, and there wasn't much in the way of playmates in Starfall. Most of the servant's children were too young or too old, or boys, which her father forbade.

Her big, purple eyes took you in when you arrived. She was a little distant at first, wanting to observe you first, but she was never impolite or cold. Regardless if your personality was more on her wavelength or a total opposite, she's amused by your habits and interests.

Sometimes you two will play long and imaginative games, sometimes you read something together in silence. Ashara likes it when you talk about something you're very passionate about, and you can draw similar conversation out of her. While she was never a shy child, her parents are pleased she's becoming more willing to talk to others. Sometimes she just gazes at you, and when you ask her what she's thinking of, she only shrugs. "Only you." Ashara often says odd things like that.

Being friends with Ashara means you're around Arthur a lot, in spite of the age gap. He's always kind and gracious to you, very "knightly" even. Many servants think you two will be trouble later on, but Arthur just sees you as a second sister. Many times he's thanked you for being Ashara's friend, and asks you to look after her safety.

She's not very affectionate, even with her brother, but she enjoys holding your hand and brushing your hair in the evening. During loud feasts and parties, she likes to take your arm and keep close so you don't lose each other.

Going to Sunspear is already exciting, and Ashara is the one introducing you to all the Martell cousins and other children, both highborn and lowborn. The both of you quickly make a trio with Princess Elia. You're either of similar temperment to the steady girls, or you're encouraging them to run about and play more. The three of you like to go off to your own games and little world, and this bond only strengthens each time you visit.

It might be Elia who helps Ashara put words to her feelings, once she's older and seriously thinking of them. Arthur has his two cents as well; gently warning his sister that you may not be with her forever. She hates to think of that, though she knows it's true. She's content to keep these feelings to herself. It would almost be worse if you felt the same, because then you'd both have to deal with the separation. Ashara hopes you don't think ill of her for wanting to stay quiet.

Reprieve comes in the form of the newly married Elia. As the future queen, she's expected to have handmaidens, and of course she'll want her childhood friends to accompany her. Her brothers Doran and Oberyn make it clear they only trust you and Ashara, anyway. Now you can have many precious years with Ashara, and not have to worry about marriages. For a while, anyway.

☀️Arianne Martell☀️

It's like you were meant to be her dearest friend. Your father was good friends with Doran Martell, so it only seemed natural that their daughters should be each other's companions. Arianne almost can't remember you not being there. You've always been a constant in her life, and you were different from her other companions or the Sand Snakes she considered sisters.

You two are notorious in Sunspear for your mischief, wether it's Arianne dragging you into it or you're just as bad. Prince Doran takes it in stride, as it's never truly malicious, and Uncle Oberyn only encourages it. Several times Doran has scolded you girls for being so mischevious to guests you dislike. Arianne gets most of the scolding - she's the eldest, and his heir, she ought to know better ... she never turns the blame on you, just teases that you owe her for covering for you.

There's always companions and cousins to play with, but you're second to none. Arianne makes this clear with her words and actions. You're to sit by her and hold her hand and are chosen first for her games. If you're competing with another child, Arianne is rooting for you and maybe helping you cheat.

She was your first kiss, too. It's when you were playing hide and seek around the vast orchards. Arianne found you, and gave you a quick kiss rather than saying "you're it!". Later she claimed it was to confuse you so she'd have more time to run, but maybe that wasn't the whole reason. When you bring it up years later as adults, she's both embarrassed at her childishness and a bit proud.

The downside to being her favorite is the jealousy. Not from the others - that's easy to deal with - it's if you're playing with someone else, especially a girl. More than once you and Arianne have gotten into arguments because she felt ignored. The little fight only lasts a few hours before you both make up, and Arianne is better about it once she's older.

Much of the jealousy stems from her being aware of her feelings early on. She knows they aren't feelings one has for a friend. Arianne is open about how she finds you the loveliest and the best, and she loves receiving the same praise in kind, but she wonders if you have the same feelings. She isn't ashamed of them, she knows girls can feel that way about girls - but she also knows only boys and girls can marry. It gives her much to think about.

She doesn't think about it long. Once she's Princess of Dorne, you can always stay by her side! Problem solved. She pitches the idea throughout your childhood. You'll never have to worry about a thing, she'll make sure of it. You both will always have the best gowns and go to the best parties and never have to part. It'll be like a dream.

Prince Doran is more than happy you and Arianne get along so well - you end up being like another daughter to him - he does often worry about her attachment. I've read a lot of NCT astrology, specifically all of the placements that involve romantic relationships. Whenever I read about Jaehyun, everyone writes that he would be very detached in a relationship. Especially if the relationship didn't mean much to him. Girl, I'm gonna be honest. Jungwoo is the 127 member I know the least about. Because of that, I have a hard to writing for him lmao. I don't know why, he gets promoted enough. I think it's because he's pretty private. Like, remember when it was announced that he has a famous actress sister. But that was a year or two ago. He's been in NCT since 2018 lmao and we just found out about his sister.

Here's the things I know about Jungwoo: 1. He's a great singer.

2.He likes to work out.

3.He's very soft spoken.

4.The man knows how to do halloween correctly.

5. He's a college boy with an engineering degree.

6.His sister acts.

Anyways...all I can really get out of Jungwoo is that he seems to be a little sensitive. Maybe that's because he comes across as quiet to me.

But because of that impression I get from him. I would say that he would be the type of guy to stick out the toxic relationship for as long as he could. Not because he's happy, but because toxic people take advantage of sensitive, kind people and convince them to stay.

Do I think he would eventually leave? Yeah. Not sure how long that would take though.

It could be tough sometimes, Anon, I get it. You’ve said it well – if anything, it’s tiring. Even if you know for a fact that it’s just some kid trying to hurt you because of their own issues, you (and none of us) shouldn’t be forced to tolerate it just because they didn’t figure their shit out yet. And they sound so deranged sometimes that it becomes obvious that they don’t really understand what they’re saying/implying and they don’t care.

Ohhh, of course Jamil wouldn’t be misty eyed over this loss, Idia basically took the bullet for him… Honestly, good riddance, these two deserve each other 😭 The line between the Mafia AU and the Marriage AU is a bit blurred, but I didn’t think it was the case with this particular sketch; THAT BEING SAID, Azul is absolutely going to invite Jamil (alright, Kalim too) in person. He just HAS to see Jamil’s face when he hears that Azul is getting married! (Jamil’s face: completely unimpressed…)

When I was sketching it, I was thinking that it was a business trip; whether he is a mafia man or just an enterpreneur, Azul always has a lot of business in the Scalding Sands. (Basically a reference post for myself as much as an excuse to talk about them :) )

5. Qi Xi (栖息), the Beast Peak / Peak Lord Ye Qingzhu (叶 清竹)

Qi Xi specializes in beast rearing and mounts; they're one of Cang Qiong's money-making peaks (along with being very expensive to run, lmao), which is why they're ranked so highly. Its name can mean "dwelling" or "bird's perch" :)

Ye Qingzhu's name comes from "Ye" for leaf and means "pure bamboo"! (The very obvious nature theme is actually unintentional; my naming reference site lied to me and I'm too attached to change her name at this point, lmaoo.) She's no-nonsense and very practical, but she can take a joke!

Yqz is middle-aged and looks it, is quite burly, and has missing fingers and scars under her right eye/over her left eyebrow from handling accidents; the former are from her disciple days. She wears vambraces and keeps her hair in a simple bun accessorized only with a hairstick

9. Zui Xian (最先), the Beverages Peak / Peak Lord Peng Qingsen (彭 清森)

This is a canon peak, but we know nothing about it, so my city now! Zui Xian is canonically where the Peak Lords meet up to have dinner (which: cute!!!), so I dubbed them a peak that produces spiritual wines and spiritual teas to sell to both other cultivators and to mortals. They probably dabble in broader agriculture as well, making them another one of Cang Qiong's money-makers!

To match Zui Xian's overall good vibes, Peng Qingsen is an amiable old uncle type, easygoing and well-muscled from field labor; he often hands out friendly shoulder pats which are varyingly appreciated by his fellow Lords, lmao. He's a good cook and fond of hosting, and his name means "clear forest," just to be on theme

10. Yuan Zhi (远志), the Arrays Peak / Peak Lord Song Qingyu (宋 清雨)

Yuan Zhi means "lofty ideal," which reflects the importance of the Peak's work-- they handle Cang Qiong's protective spells and wards! Their members are often called upon by non-cultivators to ghost-proof homes and to fortify or bless land

Song Qingyu's name means "clear rain." Sqy is fat, probably in her mid-30s, and she wins the prize for being the most-- indeed, the only-- bubbly personality of all the Peak Lords. In fact, she's so overly friendly that she’s seen as kind of annoying, but she's also so competent that everyone has to ignore it <3 Thankfully, she hasn't quite caught on that not everyone's into her morning-person vibes :')

Sqy has a personal grudge against Huan Hua bc one of their disciples snubbed her skills + Cang Qiong as a whole when she was head disciple and she never forgave them. Also, she'd never admit this out loud, but she hates having to sit next to Hong Qingfeng, since he's kind of yell-y and she doesn't really appreciate that energy

11. Zhi Man (枝蔓), the Artifacts Peak / Peak Lord Cai Qingxuan (蔡 清萱)

Zhi Man handles the creation and identification of artifacts and talismans/seals! It's very much a Peak full of mad scientists; Zhi Man's name literally means "branches and shoots," but it has the figurative meaning of describing something overcomplicated, which perfectly suits my vague imaginings of how seals work

Cai Qingxuan got her last name from the Cai Lun who invented papermaking, and her first name means "pure daylily." She's on the younger side and is kind of the prissy straight-A student type, and she keeps to herself for the most part. (She is continually besieged by sqy's well-meaning overtures of friendship; rip them both.) She has a slight tendency to act without thinking out of a mild case of arrogance, which doesn't pair well with her inability to handle flusterment. (She'd have gotten along great with Shen Jiu if he wasn't even bitchier than she is)

12. Ku Xing (苦行), the Ascetic Peak / Peak Lord Hong Qingfeng (朱 清风)

Another canon Peak, but my Peak Lord! Hong Qingfeng's name means "pure wind," but the pinyin is a holdover from when I'd originally spelled his name with a 锋 for "spear point" in honor of his canonical "fiery temper" before I decided that didn't fit the overall Qing generation's naming scheme, lmaoo

Hqf is the oldest Peak Lord, and I think he has an interest in penjing (the Chinese tree art which bonsai originated from!)

Extra notes:

My Peak order goes: Qiong Ding, Qing Jing, Wan Jian, An Ding, Qi Xi, Xian Shu, Bai Zhan, Qian Cao, Zui Xian, Yuan Zhi, Zhi Man, and Ku Xing

I envision sect meetings taking place over a long oval table with the first and twelfth peaks at the short ends and even-numbered and odd-numbered peaks placed on opposite sides. This makes sqh and sqq neighbors, and qqq and mqf are also neighbors!

I put Qian Cao as the eighth Peak because if I have to grit my teeth and accept the canon that mqf is lqg's shidi and not the other way around, I am not putting him more than one single peak below Bai Zhan, ALRIGHT

No, I still don't know what Xian Shu does. "Lesbians" is the official Peak specialty in my notes. (Realistically, I think it's primarily a safe haven for young women escaping circumstances-- it's likely split between poor younger girls and rich noblewomen trying to leave their households, and plenty are probably taking advantage of cultivation's curtailing effect on reproduction. Xian Shu, home of lesbians and spinsters!)

jimmy/saul: k so separated the two for obvious reasons. saul absolutely smells like the worst male cologne in existence. like it’s so strong to the point where it just smells like chemicals. jimmy on the other hand? idk he looks like a clean linen bastard. like it would make sense if it was like the opposite right? like i feel like he doesnt smell like anything, like he smells like fresh laundry and the nail salon he has his office in yknow?

kim: ok ok ok so. kim grew up in what im assuming to be wasn’t the super cleanest house? like pet smells, cigarette smoke, dirty dishes and takeout boxes left on the counter. and i feel like when kim grew up she wanted to become her own person and that includes the way you smell. so i feel like she smells like rose petals, the muted smell of like,,an office filled with paperwork, you know what im talking about, please you have to, and cigarette smoke, because no matter how hard she tries, a part of her will always be stuck in the past.

mike: bruh ok uh like clean laundry, but more muted??? like an old man who lives alone, and he sits in his chair all day watching movies, but he also smells like motor oil and gunpowder and soil. kaylee always thinks it’s just because he goes on hunting trips, and no one ever thinks that it could possibly be because he’s out working for a drug kingpin every day.

gus: heres the thing. it depends. i think gus has become very very good at catering himself differently depending on who he’s around. so, if he’s just “gus the los pollos restaurant owner” probably just like old spice shampoo and deodorant. simple. humble. but if he’s “gustavo fring drug kingpin visiting madrigal hq/ cartel connections” then he’s probably wearing just the right amount of cologne, like bergamot or teakwood, something citrus-y.

nacho: like motor oil and leather from working in his dad’s shop, but i feel when he’s at home or if it’s like just him it’s a lot of floral scents, mostly from the girls, but also partly his own doing. not that he uses perfume necessarily, but he’ll light a candle to get the weed smell out of the air and it’s almost always some type of flower. usually rose, or gardenia or something not too overpowering, but still nice. mostly he just smells good, but like,,,not in a comforting way, in a hot way. yknow?

lalo: it’s been like. 2 months and im not over how this bitch would smell. ive said it once and ill say it again, i have and will never meet lalo salamanca because he isn’t real, but the way he smells gives me dysphoria bc you know it’s really good and vv masculine. his grandfather used to burn palo santo because he claimed it helped with headaches. lalo never saw any merit to the claim, but he liked the smell, so when his grandfather passed away he nicked the rest of the burning wood and now his own house just kind of constantly smells like palo santo. has a tendency to use really woodsy scents when it comes to like shampoo and stuff, and he usually smells like spices or cooking oil or something. good god i love him i wanna give him a hug.

chuck: i felt bad leaving him out. chuck smells like plastic and gasoline and like,,,a library in a really weird way. im not saying its good or bad, im just saying it is. kind of probably constantly smells like somethings burning but its not. its just the wires he recklessly tore out of the wall.

Little addition to the talk about Oscar's PR management and pushing Lily a bit more into the light.

I agree with everything the other anon said but I'd like to add how it also means they are portraying Lando and Oscar differently.

Clearly, along the 2023 season we saw McLaren media leans more and more towards the slightly shippy "Landoscar" theme.

Not in a too obvious way but there were little nods towards the ship.

In 2024, we still got some little things (the picture from Barcelona, the "Osc", etc...) but it's more subtle, more leaning between shipping and friendship.

And for me it goes along with the want to picture Oscar as someone reliable and serious by showing is relationship with Lily more and also having him involved in other activities (like the Reef thing).

They are slowly letting us know that Oscar is more than just a driver and a cute boy. He has a personality, interests and a life outside of the track.

As a shipper, I hope we will soon get more funny Landoscar content to play with.

As someone interested in communication and marketing, I love trying to understand what is happening behind the scenes!

I totally see that and tbh it fits with him hiring a social media manager that AND the Andrea press release about changing their media duties around. tho the intention they gave for that was for Oscar and Lando to have more down time which hasn't actually happened bc they've both stayed just as busy but separately.

I have an anon I'm sitting on bc there's a LOT to address and some of it feels a little too .... idk tricky. but their point was that McLaren want to renege a bit on the whole 'Lando and Oscar doing everything for the team and not being in competition with each other' now that McLaren is officially up there fighting consistently for podiums and the top 3 or 4 championship spots. that splitting them up more in terms of media duties COULD be a way of creating space for them to have if not a full on rivalry then a Charles and Carlos type of competition.

the thing is that Lando and Oscar on their own keep saying how much they work together and share data and have the same needs for the car etc and that they want healthy motivation between each other.

but also I think for anyone who's had to work in a committee or be a part of regular team meetings there's also got to be the reality of someone coming in and saying 'let's change things up!' to maybe keep their job or stand out and it ends up being sort of a mess and maybe the old system was actually just fine alsfgjlsagfhljsfa it's truly possible that this whole Reputation era revamp is going to prove to be a mistake or that it's just not being very well executed.

bc I can't say that pulling Oscar away from Lando is ever going to work well for him when Oscar just isn't interested in being The Guy. he wants to show up and do his job and compete and then go home lol. so it ends up that not only do fans not get the fun teammate content they've come to expect from McLaren with the previous two teammates, it also means that super motivated Lando is maximizing on every opportunity and becoming a bigger star on his own - while Oscar has to struggle to meet the media's needs for energy and dynamism without having someone he knows he can bounce off of. the Esteban RC car thing was just... ok lol. that's not what any of us would like to see him spending his time filming. the Great Barrier Reef thing is nice but it's not the same as Seb or Lewis bc as Oscar even said he only ever really knew much about the issue from school. and most of Oscar's life is spent away from that issue and away from Australia. (he even kinda said that it was a great side benefit of being able to stay in Australia longer and have Lily involved instead of heading right back to MTC)

fundamentally, Oscar wants to have more time for his private life and he doesn't want to broadcast it- and I think that if they simply dropped the silly challenges and just gave Lando and Oscar a topic in a free moment and filmed it then Oscar could have more time away from filming and we as fans would get Lando and Oscar's real relationship that's fun and cute but without them feeling awkward at being told to dance and perform. the whole thing would be way less pressure for both Oscar and Lando.

remember, Lando isn't naturally like that! Carlos and Daniel learned that PR bromance game early in their careers and play it well but Lando follows their lead and basically reacts to them! early 2019 Lando was basically a featherless little chick watching Carlos with big eyes and squawking at how funny he was but he was sooooo nervous and twitchy about being on camera until he learned to copy Carlos' humor and bounce it back to him.

so genuinely when Lando and Oscar are just allowed to talk normally, it takes less time than setting up for elaborate challenges and they'd both feel more relaxed and get more time off.

okay this discussion is going to be SO LATE but i’m playing dream daddy (again) and i have ~thoughts~ about our friendly neighborhood youth pastor and his family.

so i’m going on dates with all the dad’s i haven’t in previous playthroughs. (i saw mat and damien and was like good day i do not need to peruse ANY other fathers today).

i’d never done joseph’s route before, bc he’s married duh and i have religious trauma. and he looks like every white man that is a problem. but this time around i wanted to watch the world burn and break that man. ANYWAY. he is- actually… delightful? and i love his dates?? i though that with (potential spoilers ahead i guess but this game is old af) his affair with Robert he would immediately start laying it on thick. but he just invites you to very fucking domestic events, and gets frazzled with basic intimacy.

so i GET that joseph cheated. i understand that a large part of mary’s drinking may be due to that. and i know the “good” ending is not really good at all, and pulls a weird moral gotcha on you. i am all for making players face the consequences of their actions in games but this one falls flat for a few reasons.

1. Joseph objectively isn’t a bad person. Yes he’s had an affair, yes he’s a youth pastor (okay only a little joking). BUT Joseph has his shit together for his 4 kids and i admire the FUCK out of him for it. As someone who was raised by alcoholic parents, seeing Mary’s attitude at her kids’ well being REALLY struck a chord with me. the game wants me to believe Joseph is the bad guy, but i’m watching his wife chug five bottles of wine while her toddler is missing AND SUPPOSED TO BE IN HER CARE. and then i see this dad who is trying, who is involved in community outreach, and keeps a stable home. also i see a lot of “well Joseph puts on an act to make Mary look bad in front of the neighbors”. I’m sorry??? he does not have to make Mary look bad, she does bad all on her own. the “wine mom” and “type a dad” schtick is so fucking heteronormative and played out, even for 2017 when the game was released. and hey maybe that was the point! but if it was, it wasn’t done well.

2. The worst parts of Mary’s character get glossed over in lieu of her being a “wine mom” stereotype. Maybe it’s because i’m an ex alcoholic myself, but i don’t have a lot of patience for the character and i know that. objectively i like Mary, i think she’s funny and tough. but she is a deadbeat fucking mom, and the game WHICH IS CENTERED LARGELY AROUND BEING A GOOD PARENT puts Mary on a pedestal that she doesn’t deserve to be on. would i get dinner with mary? hang out? go shopping?? fuck yeah. would i think, “this person who goes out every single night and flirts outrageously with everyone, ignoring their children and household responsibility for their husband” is a “good” person?? fucking hell no. i would not let that woman look after a hamster. let alone four children.

3. DIVORCE IS A VALID AND HEALTHY OPTION THAT SHOULD BE SHOWN MORE IN MEDIA. i cannot tell you how many nights i lay awake listening to my parents drunk and fighting and prayed (when i believed in prayer) that they would divorce. i WANTED my parents to divorce, because i, at the ripe age of 12 could see what apparently the adults could not. that these two people did not, and should not, be together. now that’s not saying that your “good” ending in joseph’s route should end in a typical romance. i don’t. what i mean is that two people should have come to the conclusion that they are doing irreparable damage to their family by staying together. and your character could have helped and supported in that decision. it is obvious that Mary is living a life she doesn’t want, and i do feel for her. BUT GET A DIVORCE THEN. I know the characters are married and staying together largely in part because of religion… but…. Joseph’s not “that” kind of christian? because i grew up in the church, i know the type. this guy ain’t it. So the “well divorce is a sin” for the character doesn’t work for me.

i love the game grumps and i LOVE this game, but this was an area where i feel like the characterization and “message” was a like clunky and more than hard to follow. i really felt like they missed the mark with this one, i mean hell just make the non-canon ending canon at this point. at least that would make more sense.

ok so I watched Pistol like a month ago and I've been obsessed about the Sex Pistols ever since and I even read a couple of books on the band and I honestly feel so sad about them. Like It's weird how social media just made up a discourse about them and they don't even care how there were so young and exploited. I'm not justifying what John became and all the stuff Sid did, but Malcolm really exploited boys that already had issues and used them.

the older i get, the younger the Sex Pistols seem. Steve, the oldest member of the band, was 23 when they broke up in 1978. the Pistols started gigging around in 1975. they were kids and they spent some of the most formative years of their lives (age 19-24 are the years of transition from teenagehood to adulthood and therefore very crucial in a person's development) being seen as public enemy number one by a majority of the ppl in britain, the insane tabloid press that slandered them non-stop, and the government of england that straight up considered trying them for treason. btw in the 70s you could be given the death penalty if you were found guilty of treason in england

Johnny and Paul were both nearly murdered in 1977. Paul wasnt even old enough to drink in america when random ppl twice his age decided that he deserved to die for having an opinion on the monarchy that wasnt positive. they beat him with an iron rod and left him in the street. Johnny has permanent nerve damage due to being stabbed through the hand and all of his friends at the time report him becoming so traumatized by this incident that he would run in terror if he thought someone was following him or looking at him weirdly

ppl will tell you that the Sex Pistols were violent, malicious ppl. theyre dead fucking wrong. the Sex Pistols were normal kids who just wanted to play music for other kids like them. they (aside from Sid) were never violent unless they were defending themselves or friends. 99% of the violence that surrounded the band was directed AT them

Johnny, Steve, and Sid had incredibly difficult childhoods and have very obvious mental health issues (Steve is pretty open about his struggles with mental health. the other two arent bc one of them committed suicide and the other would likely rather die then go to a psychiatrist). they were thrown from the fires of child abuse, homelessness, drug abuse, and poverty into the hell that is being the media's favorite punching bags and the designated 'acceptable targets' of an entire nation

to me the Sex Pistols were the most punk out of all of the first generation British bands. bc whats more punk then a band started by an abuse survivor who stole all of his musical equipment and taught himself how to play? whats more punk then having the government of your country against you and refusing to back down? whats more punk then fighting tooth and nail for your right to say what you want even when they try to censor you time and time again? whats more punk then refusing to change who you are and what type of songs you play even when ppl want you dead for it? whats more punk then throwing a christmas party with toys and cake for the kids of striking firemen?

the image of the Sex Pistols as cartoon villains for some other more virtuous band to 'defeat' is not only completely false but its also pathetic. they were normal kids who didnt want to be famous or to be seen as the figureheads of a revolution. they wanted to play music, have fun, and shake things up so that the world would be more interesting for bored kids like them

Happy Valentine’s Day ratsoh :) I have a request for a Matchup for my babygirl Charlotte!

She’s 23 and currently working at a bank but her dream job is something involved with fashion history. Charlotte is soft spoken and generally prefers to hang back and keep to herself except around people she’s very close with. She lives on a property with a few different houses with her family (immediate and more distant) she’s very patient and detail oriented, and tends to be very understanding and forgiving. On the flip side she can be a bit of a pushover, especially around stronger personalities, and generally won’t stand up for herself until she’s reached her limit.

Aside from fashion history, she’s a big foodie and likes cooking, going out to eat, etc. she’s curious and open about learning and trying new things as long as she gets enough time to herself in between. She’s also good at building and fixing things (assigned furniture assembler), and very good at math- she’s the kind of friend people ask for help when filing their taxes

She’s the oldest of 5 kids and has younger half siblings from 19-7 years old, but the family living together is around 30(?) people. Her family is important to her and while her SO certainly doesn’t need to be around them all the time (and she’s open to moving away from them so long as it isn’t super far away), she’d still want to feel comfortable bringing them around each other and not having to worry about it if she isn’t there to supervise the whole time. Similarly, she’s pretty introverted and while someone who is very outgoing isn’t a deal breaker she wouldn’t do very well with someone who is constantly taking her out of her comfort zone.

She doesn’t have a lot of strong preferences, she has a partial preference for people taller than her (she’s 5’7) but it’s not a very strong one. Her partner also being detail oriented is a pretty big plus bc details are so important to her. I think she’d appreciate confidence, whether is more boldness and bravado or a quiet self assurance, she’d subconsciously drift more towards those kinds of people.

Her general aesthetic leans more towards light colors and flips around between historical, country cute, elegant, and girlish depending on the day. She’s almost always carrying a sewing kit , notebook, and her multitool pocket knife with her, and she’s got shared ownership over a pair of pet doves with her cousin/best friend/ roommate Lenore. The doves are her babies

Lovely character description! Anyways Charlotte has very specific needs. She needs someone who’s confident but observant enough to realize when they push to hard. And a family lover of course! So after searching for those requirements, I decided to match her with ….. SALT! Lustswap papyrus!

Salt has a type. That is very obvious if you look at all his exes. He’s attracted to this shy softies. He loves bringing them out of their shells. Over time he became quite good at reading people’s body language and expressions to tell their comfort levels. Salt is a great choice as someone who can give Charlotte the confidence to be adventurous while still being restrained enough to feel secure to her.

Salt is 100% extroverted and would do well in a large family setting. Picking him means that there’s no need for Charlotte to move away if she doesn’t want to. He’ll blend in well with the group, and become the annoying uncle with dirty jokes the kids don’t understand lol. Every family needs one of those after all lol

Salt is a professional makeup artist! So while it’s not the same field as clothing design, it’s still very similar. Salt is someone who needs to keep up with trends in order to keep his job relevant. He’s someone that Charlotte can always talk to about her passion, and he’ll be able to keep up just fine

Charlotte should be warned though, salt is a lust monster lol. So she’s gonna have her hands full with him ;). And maybe a few kids down the line. He’s a family guy, and while he can go without, he does hope that his future partner would want one or two someday

Regina and Leopolds Marriage

I don't know what to start with so Ima jump straight into it. I saw a post a while ago made from.. well years ago, stating that Regina was a grown woman.. Let me say this, OLDER ACTRESSES PLAY TEENS ALL THE TIME, (Nbr). For all we know Regina is 18 at the time when Leopold proposed. Some people say that if she was 19-25 (she was actually 18 during 'Stable Boy') it would not be weird. Yes, it would. Leopold was literally Regina's Father's age, if not, older. It would still be very weird for an 18 and 50-60+ year old to be married.

Some people say, "this takes place a several decades ago, it would be normal-" It doesn't make it right! Just because it takes place decades and go and it would be considered normal, it doesn't make it right. 

(just for example):

A 18-year-old in the times when arranged and forced marriage was normal, was forced to marry a 50-year-old man. Some would say, "That was normal then for 18 and she was old enough, it doesn't make it weird," ... what. I hope you see how stupid and ridiculous that sounds. Even if it was okay a long time ago, that doesn't make it okay. And again, it's still fucking weird.

Now back onto the marriage. "Regina didn't say no-" Stfu. The look on her face when Leopold kneels down and proposes is very obvious. Regina would have probably screamed out loud saying no if she could. But she didn't because her mom was nearby, and she didn't want to fuck up her already fucked up relationship with her mom by ruining her mother's advantage by saying no to the royals and she was in shock.

Now onto the rape topic. I keep reading that 'Leopold Raped Regina' , and I personally don't have a opinon on that because it was not stated and I don't want to get any backlash lol. But the most thing I believe about their marriage was the Regina was neglected and (ofc) forced to marry him.

For Leopold, he only listened to Regina's mothers 'yes' and not Regina's. And if he couldn't see the absolute shock and fear on Regina's face, idk what he saw there. If I proposed to someone (my own age bc I'm not weird) and I saw that look that Regina had on her face, I would get off the floor taking her physical and mental 'no' and 'wtf' for an answer and say sorry and leave. But Leopold didn't do that and when ONLY Regina's mother approved, he went along with it. And Regina's mother just handed Regina to Leopold probably knowing that Marital Rape could happen (ik it probably didn't, but I was just saying that what if it did and Cora just handed Regina over to that knowing that it could've be common at the time.).

Now, Leopold reading Regina's diary is disruptive of her privacy. And Regina put all those fake stuff in it and Leopold reads it. Regina is the type to always plan things out (evil or not), so she knew that Leopold would read her diary because he (probably) did it all the time. Even if she used the method of, making her diary out in the open to her father, thinking that her father would hand it over to Leopold. Or the other method of, putting it out in the open for Leopold to see, but if i was him, I still wouldn't touch the diary.

Leopold, in a scene specially states that "I know Regina is unhappy" and Leopold never does anything about it. Then he proceeds to say, "And yet I never imagined she would betray me like this," What?? Like, after being married with her KNOWING that she was unhappy and (most likely) never loved you, and you are betrayed?? Excuse me?

Then later on, he asked the Genie to "find the man who took his wife's heart". Genie asks "What are you going to do when you find him?". Then Leopold replies with, "Nothing you can be concerned with". So your saying you knew she was unhappy and feeling unloved and NEVER loved you and then your going to, what? Possibly murder? Shame? The person who might have given her hope in this terrible neglective unloving marriage?!

Not only that but him KNOWINGLY marries the woman he almost married (technically dated still engaged)'s daughter, KNOWINGLY. Adam Horowitz had also confirmed that Leopold REMEMBERED Cora. He remembered the woman he almost MARRIED.

I was feeling a bit down today so I decided to finally reread the clinic prequel (I've been meaning to for the past few weeks) and omg :(( it's so cute man it's soo adorable shfkdkjfkfdj it's honestly one of my favs and I think clinic!Phil is my fav Phil... He is so nice man I wanna cry shfjdkskffk

I adore how real your fics are. I've said this before but I'll point out a new example shfkfk like when they are at the duck pond, you take care to describe the ducks inbetween their convo. Like you don't rush and just say their dialogue, you take the time to describe the world around them. It makes it a lot more immersive

And you choosing to have that interaction with Hannah and though it clearly shows the juxtaposition between their powers and is a good tool to show how Wilbur's power affects him, it also doesn't feel out of place? It feels honestly like smth that could happen in a universe where superpowers are normal also LOVE the transition it gives to Phil finding a common thing to talk about to approach Wilbur with. Idk I just. Everything about that is so good

I also really like how you write young Wilbur?? Like. It's obvious he's a kid, but also it doesn't feel like ur babying him or anything. He feels like a genuine 12 year old, who's mature enough to understand a lot of things, though still immature in others. It also feels like Wilbur, you've still captured a lot of his personality and I think it's really cool to see. You've got such a good grip on characterization man, I can always hear the cc's voices when I read your writing.

Your characters always feel so real and their train of thought and actions always feel logical, even if they're, from an outsiders point of view, not.

Like a Dusty Tomb is ICONIC but this was one of the first pieces of writing to make me Obsessed with sandduo and it holds a very special place in my heart... It's also just fucking adorable like no words can describe how precious this fic is shfkfkdl

awww thank you icy!! I loved writing the clinic prequel so much. it was my first major foray into sandduo centric stuff and I had such a good time with it.

I love including small environmental details to make the atmosphere feel more real. like ducks in a pond or the temperature outside or what the kids on the nearby playground are doing. just small tidbits reminding the readers the world around the characters is alive in these pages.

I loved that little hannah interaction for so many reasons. it was exactly like you said, a way to juxtapose wilbur's own feelings about his powers with hannah's. and I wanted to show the type of interactions you'd see in a society where powers are normalized. I just think little kids with fun powers would love practicing and showing them off to strangers in the park :) and I just liked getting to throw another cameo in there as well. the cameos in the prequel fic were so fun for me to include

i'm so glad that you liked how i wrote kid!wilbur in this. I always get so nervous writing child characters because I hate when fics write all child characters like helpless babies even if they're, like, 12. but at the same time obviously I don't want to make the child i'm writing sound like a mini adult. so I try very hard to strike that balance while also till making sure that above all, he sounds like wilbur. also any and all compliments on my characterization make me so happy aaa ty
