I think my least favorite thing that happens in fandom spaces is how overly familiar people act towards you. Like whenever I get a post over 200 notes I have people making jokes in the tags that aren't like outright distressing or gross or anything but that just. idk! are jokes I would only make with people I know. Like "fuck you!" or "oh this is awful" or whatever that's done in a joking tone but it's still weird. You don't know me like that
And it's not so much a problem over here because we are so insular as a community so even if I don't know you guys by name or if we don't follow each other I still recognize the person commenting on my stuff. enough to almost certainly recognize the joking tone instantly and for that familiarity there to be warranted. we're not friends but it's like, yeah! I know this person they've been here forever. It's comfortable.
But in larger spaces that casual familiarity is gone. I've literally never interacted with you before. It's like if you overheard a conversation on the street and just walked in and started joking around with them like you knew them. it's uncomfortable!! and like yes obviously I'm looking for interactions when I post and tag things that's the whole point, so it is inherently different than say a private conversation being intruded on but djakfoofjf just don't act like you know someone you've literally never engaged with at all before.

mes's webcomic recommendations
do YOU like webcomics or want to read some ? here are some i think are good NO im not gonna put my own here even if i think its good. -_-
starting with . i Think these ones are popular and well known..?
Paranatural - A story about paranormal ghosts and stuff. It's a real fun time, and the story is really good. The author's art progression is really impressive, truly skilled with paneling and such. It does eventually shift into a webnovel format with drawings as the author couldn't keep up with doing pages like before, and the quality of goodness of the story stays strong 👍👍
Tiger, Tiger - Story about the importance of sea sponges. Also a fun time, sea faring adventure about, again, sea sponges and how important they are nothing else OK? promise. (liar) PHENOMENAL artwork, very pretty to look at.... 👍👍
The Property of Hate - I need to reread it because i forgetted a lot but its such a cool looking comic and sooo interesting OK?! i swear. It's about a kid being a hero.
Vainglorious - a fun comic about a dragon facing Hubris Consequences. The main trio is real fun, the world is cool, all in all fun comic okie !!
Sakana - Slice-of-life comic about some folks working at a fish stall in a fish market. Real fun. Been on hiatus for four years, but is gonna make a comeback soon (author is working on building up buffer pages And then... ! ) But yeah! real fun.
Witchy - ... one i have to reread, it's been on hiatus since forever as the author was working on another comic (thatllbe out... in a while?), though i assume when that's done they'll come back to this...? Anyhow, I remember it being a very gripping story, and beautifully drawn... Also it's about witches. if. you . couldnt tell by the.. title...
NOW, onto ones that ... i dont Think are super well known ... ?
EcopportunityX - An interactive stick figure limited color palette comic about a facility where bad shit has happened ! uhoh! What the hell happened here! Follow the protagonist on their journey of learning what happened, and escaping the facility. Also, space pinball and ball pit beast is there. 👍👍👍
Eye in the Sky - And it only feels right to bring it up as well, but this is a fancomic of ecopportunityX ! ... Contains eox spoilers, so perhaps read the original first! This one features original characters and takes place a bit before eox, it's nice ok i like it :]
Gold Scissors - One of my all time favourites TBH. The art is nice, I love the story, the world is so cool i love it a lot... do yourself a favor and read it...
Midnight Connection - Finished! by the author of Gold Scissors, it's a short comic that takes place in the same universe, you can get through it in one sitting!! sniffles.
Brainchild - Comic about girl seeing weeeeeird stuff. Ghosts?! who knows. Tis a cool one OK read it...
Fairmeadow - "i hate being on the hippee comune they are always telling me Peace and Love on planet earth , orc lady, Peace and Love, and they do not leave me alone" - true real 100% words said. you can read it and youll see. Very pretty looking, ...
Holly & Macy and Everyone Else - comic about two teens learning about HOMOSEXUALITY and being a witch and its a very sweet .. i like it ok? it's also on tumblr @/ hollymacycomic

Needleminder - because fuck it we put webnovels here too I GUESS. it has pictures sometimes. haven't caught up with it recently tho BUT it's Very interesting and gets weird with it in cool ways...
Star Impact - comic about boxing! fighting! and people have gloves that give them a gimmick power tis pretty fuckin cool!
Kitty Corner - Comic about someone who sees ghosts. this ones kiiinda just getting started i think..? put its been promising so far, i like it ANOTHER TUMBLRHOSTED WEBCOMIC LETS GO BABY!

hi! if you’ve answered this before i’m sorry, but could you go into what it’s like being both a traumagen system and a system with tulpas? i’ve been curious about this as a traumagen syshost myself. does it affect your innerworld? do the tulpas act vastly different or work differently i guess than the traumagen alters? thank you!
omfg this took us forever to answer for like 200 stupid reasons but YEAH i have a lot I want to talk about with this, where do I even start??? I guess I should clarify that we don't really know what our "original origin" is- we'd been median for as long as the body can remember, and we DK if it was because of our autism or because of social problems or if we were just born that way. Whatever it is though, we were a plural egg when I was created, so pretty much everyone other than the few of us that we discovered from before that considers me the "first" one after the host subsystem. As more shit happened though irl we got more & more traumagenic members, dissociation, memory issues, and whole loads of other shit. So basically, that's the perspective I'm coming from with all this.
So with that outta the way, here're some'a my experiences as a tulpa in a traumagenic/mixed disordered system
One of the biggest signifiers I noticed of our system structure changing completely was our headspace actually, so it's pretty great you mention that tbh. After we got a lotta traumagenic members, something shitty happened I won't talk about, and our headspace basically totally shattered. It used to be little more than our vivid imagination- yeah, I could feel my body and visualize the world around me and stuff but nothing super weird or unusual happened, and I couldn't do stuff in the Wonderland completely outta front. It wasn't like, another Space completely unaware of the host - and I know that's possible with training but we were nowhere neeear that. But after headspace broke, everything was expansive, ever-changing, always with more secrets and hidden things to discover. Lots of fucked up stuff most of us can't access too, but yeah, intense dissociation made it totally different. It's harder to navigate, but I also get more privacy.
As for if I work differently, I'd say yeah, I kinda really do, actually. Obviously, my creation took a lot longer cuz I'm consciously created rather than split or introjected or whatever, so it took a while for me to come into my own, and I was a lot more "fluid" than other headmates for awhile. Regardless of if they're traumagenic or not, something I've noticed about how different I am compared to other member types is that they're, idk, like solidly set in who they are and everything from the beginning. My host, too. They're like a solid, and I'm like a.... non-neutonian fluid or whatever, that ooblek shit. Even after all this time I still feel like I choose my identity and to Exist constantly, y'know? I think it's part of why I've always felt like "tulpa" is part of my species ngl. Everything else is secondary to that. I want to exist, I need to exist. That keeps me going sometimes
As for traumagenic specific stuff though, there're some other interesting things to talk about also. As our dissociative symptoms increased, it got harder and harder for me to move around the fuzz- but honestly, that's the body's fault. I haven't even been personally affected much other than what the body does to us. I can move around headspace more freely than most of us, I can sense more people around than others, and I can control the body way easy now that I've had practice. The only reasons I don't front are when I don't feel like it, somebody else needs it, or the body is too tired and id be bored outta my mind. I guess it's like I have executive access to a bunch of stuff, hahah!
Tbh tho it all just, changed me as a person more than anything else. I'm not the system's main protector because I exist to be one or cuz the body assigned me that role- it's because I took it up on my own choice and decided my own purpose. I protect people and that's part of the core of who I am, cuz of the circumstances I came around in. I wouldn't change that part of me for the world ngl. I know my point boils down to "don't forget your tulpa is a person too" a lot, but... Yeah. they may not have the same struggles as your traumagenic alters, but you're all still Goin Thru It together, so you'll both be affected by whatever happens from there on out as a team.
But hey, aint that what healthy multiplicity is all about?

Since the Velma show is so uhhhhh Like That, here's my pitch for an adult Scooby Doo show:
The most similar existing Scooby thing is On Zombie Island and the two biggest inspirations/points of comparison outside of Scooby Doo are Scream (particularly MTV Scream) and Cabin in the Woods.
The gang are college upperclassmen, juniors and/or seniors.
Fred started as a finance major but switched to criminal justice. Daphne’s a journalism major. Shaggy's getting a fine art degree and his concentration is ceramics, Velma's major is physics.
Fred and Shaggy were roommates freshman year and had an enemies to besties situation because they were so different. Mostly the problem was that Fred's upbringing was super sheltered and old money, prep school, country club, young republicans - so when he meets Shaggy he's like how tf do I deal with people who aren't from my very rigid uptight wealthy background? But he lets go of that bullshit really quickly and now he and Shaggy are inseparable and have chosen to continue to live together since.
Daphne is Fred's high school sweetheart, they both went to single gender prep schools but they were like "sibling" schools that held co-ed events together. She's from the same super rigid old money world as him but she's always been more rebellious and aware of the outside world than he was. Maybe they broke up for a while because even tho they decided to go to the same university, they wanted different college experiences and she was a big party girl freshman and sophomore years, but now she's calmed down a little and he's opened up, so they're the most compatible they've ever been and they find their way back to each other.
Velma and Shaggy met in an art class that she was taking as an elective and he was taking as part of his main course work. She'd never done any kind of art before and was super nervous but Shaggy was really encouraging and they became buddies and she discovered a new interest and made all her free electives be art classes after that. If Shaggy's having a hard time getting a sculpture to be structurally stable, he comes to Velma for physics assistance.
Shaggy decides to adopt a dog and he's on the humane society website like look at this weird dog, it says he's been there for months, how come nobody has adopted him? So he takes Fred and they go to the humane society and they meet this fucked up Great Dane that nobody else wants and they agree to adopt him.
That's when Weird Shit TM starts happening on campus and in the surrounding town. It is NOT monster of the week but maybe the first couple episodes are sort of falsely monster of the week seeming, until they realize everything is connected. Definitely keeping the villian's motivation as some horrible destructive ultra capitalist scheme, and it hits close to home for Fred and Daphne because that's kind of the world they're from, but it's also supernatural somehow and Scooby's nature as a not-quite-normal dog is tied into it, the four of them like, become fated to solve this problem because they welcome Scooby into their lives. Stakes are high, the supernatural is real and death is permanent. The gang should lose peripheral friends and have to figure out the mystery while also mourning, and the villian or one (or more) of the villian's henchmen is someone in the gang's outer circle. Like maybe the big bad is the president of the university and Daphne's sorority sisters and Shaggy's plug and Velma's advisor are all in on it.
Velma IS a lesbian, and Indian. If we're making one of them black it's gotta be Fred or Daphne, I hate that they made the stoner character black in the Velma show lol that was my first red flag. I mean, in this I think they're all stoners, they do the round table That 70's Show thing, Shaggy is just the only one with a Stoner Personality. And I think it's cool for him to be non-white, it just feels cringey to me for him to be black. But I think it could be really interesting for one of the super wealthy upper crust characters to have to realize that they were really insulted from racism in their specific community but that doesn't mean that it isn't still a big deal everywhere else, and maybe even looking back they DID experience racism growing up, they just didn't realize it. Perhaps they're even mixed race, half black half white and have to deal with the intersecting privilege and oppression that simultaneously brings them. Fred is bi but still figuring it out, Shaggy is nb but enjoys masculinity and just doesn't give a shit about how other people perceive his gender, it's a more internal experience for him, and he defies gender conventions in subtle ways.

What ASPD stereotypes do you think are the most ridiculous and untrue?
Ooooo, a fun one. In no particular order -
• That every pwASPD hates animals or is violent towards them. This is a super vicious stereotype that has made it's way all the way into the DSM. We are not super likely to hurt animals, at least no more than any other traumatized child. It does happen, yes, but many of us actually feel closest with animals because our lack of empathy and remorse and all that doesn't mean much to them. Depending on the animal, they either love you unconditionally anyway, or they tolerate you on the basis that you keep providing snacks. Plus, they don't require us to understand or care about social code. They also affect a different part of your brain than other humans your own age (more similar to how one bonds with a young child - instinct to protect and care for), so we are more likely to be capable of experiencing close bonds with them. Whilst not everyone with ASPD likes or gets along with animals, we also do not all attack them.
• That lacking remorse is what predisposes us to violence. These are entirely separate symptoms that have next to nothing to do with each other if you put them in that order. Sure, I don't feel remorse besides with Exceptions, but that's not what causes my violent urges. The people who say this are thinking from the perspective of making decisions in fear of feeling bad for things, which if you never experienced remorse in the first place, does not affect you. The people who say that without remorse we must go around violently hurting and k*lling people around us ("because what's stopping you??") are really just telling on themselves & admitting on main that they would st*b their loved ones given the chance. Super weird of them.
• (A classic) That they can pick us out in a crowd/we have a specific look in our eyes. Peak comedy is the many people who say "Don't worry, I'll let you know if you're dealing with a sociopath. They're easy to find if you know what you're looking for" directly to a pwASPD who hasn't told them. Literally my favorite thing ever that prosocials say.
• That a "true sociopath/psychopath" will never tell you they are one/that someone who is good at manipulation would never tell you they're manipulative. Well that's a funky lil trick you got there - you just gave me an easy in to abuse the crap out of you. Good thing I don't want to, but really? You don't see the flaw in saying that out loud to someone? It's also just false. Pretty funny again tho, except I hate the urge to manipulate or abuse people who say this just because I obviously easily could, so I try and steer clear or call them out for how fucking stupid that is.
Many, many more are untrue but these are the more lighthearted, ridiculous ones.

Can u talk about ur requiem rohan au. If you want
YESSSS YES YES YES i literally switched to desktop so i can type easier
i'll try and keep this short so i don't kill everyone's dash
ok so the whole premise of this AU hinges on the fact that akira is also in possession of the requiem arrow (still haven't figured out a reason how tho) and rohan gets his hands on it through there
a little bit of explanation for how i think the requiem arrow works: whatever the stand turns into depends on the user's greatest desire in that moment. polnareff really wanted to protect the arrow, so SCR's power was all about keeping it safe. giorno really REALLY wanted to kill diavolo + override king crimson's ability, which is why GER resets everything to zero (can't predict the future when it never happens). ok explanation over
rohan gets the arrow right after he gets his stand, but he doesn't end up using it (it doesn't end up choosing him) until he figures out how HD works. this is before he meets koichi and gets beat up by josuke, so he's still in his whole weird detached/clinical/up on his high horse phase. this combined with an incredibly powerful stand turns him into the worst version of himself (he stays stagnant in his ways and never grows out of this childish mindset)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
art of The Guy. second image is a screenshot of a crop since the original is just too fucking big for tumblr also heaven's door requiem reveal
HDR, to put it simply, can rewrite reality. it's like a super buffed up version of HD in the TSRK series (think of when rohan used his stand to look at the chicken leg's expiration date expect now he's doing it to space-time). looking at its face causes the victim to fall into a trance-like state. rohan is a little scared of it not gonna lie like what would you do if the manifestation of your soul (that looks like the main character of your series + is a child to reflect on the traumatic moment in your childhood that defined your entire life) suddenly turns into some fucked up angel creature. despite all of this, rohan doesn't really use it much in the beginning bc he still holds onto the whole "doesn't like tampering with things bc that makes them less real" ideal AT FIRST...because what's the point of upholding reality when you're the one creating it?
anyways this is still long and i cut out some stuff lol. this is basically an experiment where i go "how can i make my fucked up little man even more insane". also him and canon rohan meet and it goes about as well as you'd expect but that's somethign else...

i'm very new here, would it be okay to ask of you to infodump about "dez"? they seem very blorbo material and i'm curious :3 (if not i'll totes understand if you wanna keep things hush-hush due to spoilers lol)
OFC ILL INFODUMP ABT DEZ DEAR ANON HE'S MY BOY
Tumblr media
his names Desmond O. Arkady and he’s the main protag of SE and is…tbh the only normal person out of the entire cast. he’s just a normal superpower-less kid who gets involved in world altering events on accident becuz everyone else is mean to him and likes using him cuz he craves validation and can’t say no :( unfortunately for all the ppl who like pushing him around, he’s got extremely serious, repressed anger issues (due to his dad's emotional/verbal abuse and his mom abandoning the family) and is eventually pushed beyond his breaking point which at some point involves making a nuclear bomb so. good work guys-
Tumblr media
he’s also super fucking smart and loves everything to do with science even tho he isn’t too good at math. he excels at biology and chemistry and likes to take home dead animals to cut open and look at. he also practices necromancy- he’s a distinguished little victor frankenstein just. one who doesn’t steal dead bodies v-v he particularly likes reviving dead cats (one of which becomes a supporting character at a later point) but other than natural sciences he's pretty adept at taking things apart and putting them back together. he can look at a radio and know exactly how it works and what the components are that make it function. he also loves fun facts and will randomly drop them on people, especially morbid ones that he finds 'funny and interesting' but isnt to others :( so while he's pretty intelligent he doesnt do well socially which resulted in him being bullied VERY badly when he was younger but he tries to take everything in stride....even tho he almost drowned once becuz of it and one other time almost beat someone unconscious during one of his 'rage blackouts' (he definitely fucking cried for like 3 days straight after that even tho he doesnt rmm)
Tumblr media
while relatively normal he’s related to like, arguably the most powerful person in the world which is something he’s super unaware of. he’s the heir to a shit ton of scientific endeavors and intended future owner of ALL ANDROIDS. but again he’s unaware of this so when “certain things” tend to happen to him or around him he just tends to brush it off and doesn’t think it concerns him. the person who he’s related to, Lupe, is struggling to get into contact with him cuz 10 years ago she astral projected so hard she caused her subconscious (i’m not explaining) to time travel so. she’s just been in a coma for a long while annnnd she very much might never wake up again so OH WELL looks like her TRILLION DOLLAR FORTUNE is just in fucking limbo for now >:/
Tumblr media
hmm what else..very much a people pleaser, he's got this really weird inclination to freak the fuck out if he thinks people don't like him- he also ignores a lot of his feelings?? like if he feels anything intense other than happiness he's prone to crying fits and throwing up which his bodyguard francis thinks is INSANE and STUPID. despite ppl treating him like shit he's genuinely a very hopeful person and loves the world and everything that takes up space in it. like he tries to and does see the good in everything and while the events of the story kinda wear down on him he ultimately doesn't think humanity or Martiankind deserves pain and/or suffering; he persistently keeps a strong sense of justice/morality and thinks that anyone or anything is ultimately capable of good.
hrrrrm thats all i can seem to say off the top of my head for now...anyway yeah he's literally the best :3 like out of the entire cast of SE he's definitely the guy the root for imo v-v
Tumblr media
waaaa but tysm for the q

Stranger Things, to test your dashboard osmosis abilities
stranger things is a netflix's favourite child
its set in the 80s and has a very speilberg-y vibe
it's about a group of kids (eventually teenagers) who live in a world with some kind of supernatural fuckery going on
i'm not sure why they're a part of it. do they solve mysteries? does something bad happen to them? i dunno
finn wolfhard plays one of the mains, and this show is what made him famous (he's ritchie from the modern IT movies to me)
there's a place called "the upside down", its like, another dimension...?
theres a thing called the demigorgon or something and i've never seen it but i think it has tentacles
one of the kids, dustin, has no front teeth due to a medical disorder his actor has and thats pretty neat
theres a girl with short hair named eleven and she has telekinesis. again, i do not know how her and the other kids factor together. i think she was raised in a government facility?
winona ryder is here. christmas lights
sheriff hopper has a mouth watering physique. that is to say, i have stared at some very indulgent gifsets of this man
every season there is a character that the fandom utterly adores but then they die and everybody loses their mind. especially over this guy named eddie munson. of all the stranger things stuff i see on my dash over the years, eddie has been like. Near Constant. endless eddie. it's died down some but wowee. eddie is into heavy metal and lord of the rings and he seems like a nice boy
one of the older kids, steve harrington, used to be a jerk but now he's a sweetie and everybody loves him
there is a cute girl with a ponytail who apparently deserved better
theres a bully dude with a mullet that people either love or loathe. and i've seen fights about this
these kids play D&D
theres a kid with a bowl cut and people keep fighting over whether he is gay or ace. it's really weird, as if those things can't exist in one being. or that one person's headcanons cancel outs somebody elses. some ppl can think he's gay and other ppl can think he's ace, there's no need to fight about it, geez
i dunno the plot of this thing, only vibes and the general idea of the characters. tho it occurs to me i dunno half their names
everybody loved this show and super gushed about it but now everybody hates this show so i guess a dip in quality ensued?
well i dunno much about this show but i've sure as fuck seen lotsa meta and gushing over eddie munson and steve harrington
and hopper's plump ass

I need a new psychiatrist. I’m so frustrated. I’ve basically been without medication for my bipolar depression and insomnia for almost 3 months now. Olanzapine was making me gain weight and tbh it had kinda stopped helping me sleep so I was at a loss. So he prescribed me topamax and ziprazidone. Topamax is supposed to help suppress my appetite and the ziprazidone was supposed to treat my bipolar depression. But my main issue is insomnia. I keep getting treated like I have schizophrenia when the only times I’ve experienced symptoms of that is when I go into psychosis due to severe insomnia. I don’t have schizoaffective or schizophrenia. I have severe insomnia and depression and occasional/rare manic episodes that worsen the insomnia. However, it’s been over 2 years since I experienced a “manic” episode and I believe it was partly induced by using too much thc. So anyway. The ziprazidone did not help me sleep whatsoever so I stopped taking it and talked to my psychiatrist again. He prescribed me a medication called Lybalvi which is olanzapine and samidorphan combined to help you sleep, treat bipolar, and also reduce weight gain. Problem was Medicaid wouldn’t cover it. My psychiatrist never called me to explain what was going on or to try and put me on something else, I just ended up waiting over a month trying to get hold of them to see what was happening and if I’d get the medication or not and eventually I was just like ok fuck this and made a new appointment because I wasn’t getting anywhere and I still was struggling to sleep well. So at my last appointment a couple weeks ago he was really discouraging me because he was acting like he didn’t know what else to do and like he couldn’t think of any more meds to try for me and suggested abilify when I’d already tried abilify twice and it doesn’t help me sleep so what’s the point? I asked if he could prescribe me Caplyta because I’d done research on bipolar depression medications that help you sleep and it was suggested. He said he’d never prescribed that before so he didn’t want to prescribe it to me and instead recommended I try Vraylar. I was disappointed but said ok. Later that day I’m notified by text that my prescription isn’t ready because they’re having insurance issues. Again. So at this point I was fuming. Anyway it’s like a week and a half later and it finally got approved by Medicaid so I picked it up yesterday and took it last night with my other meds and guess what. I couldn’t sleep. In fact, even tho I was really tired, I felt utterly restless for some reason and my thoughts kept going to weird places, kinda like I was dreaming but fully awake and tossing and turning, unable to stay still. So I looked it up. Apparently vraylar can cause restlessness and insomnia. Like. Wtf. This psychiatrist is so inept at this point it’s ridiculous. I’m telling him over and over during every appointment, my mood is fine but I can’t sleep, not sleeping, trouble sleeping, my sleep schedule is all over the place, please help me with my insomnia and instead of treating that or listening to me he keeps prescribing me schizophrenia meds that I don’t fucking need, that don’t help me sleep. I’m so frustrated and mad right now. It’s ridiculous. I’m gonna have to find a new psychiatrist. Not looking forward to it. Meanwhile I’ve been trying to find a job, applying to some different positions but haven’t heard anything back. I’m so anxious and nervous that I’m gonna get a call and then start working but still be struggling to sleep and then I’ll have to work while getting no sleep and that usually leads to me having a breakdown so I’m just really anxious in general about everything. I’m really struggling mentally right now. I’m super depressed but my insomnia is the worst. I don’t know what to do. I’m so frustrated.

kiSing 2 movie thoughts!!! finally got around to watching it on netflix and immediately got to Thinking. thank u chase matoitech for wanting to hear my thoughts lol
readmore bc it’s probably gnna be long, am gnna try to chunk it out into paragraphs for ease of reading
i was honestly surprised they went with a sequel! the first movie wrapped up pretty damn well and i think it’s more indicative of the movie industry’s need for more profit that they made a second one.
buster always kinda annoyed me - he’s not someone i would like to be around, he’s pushy and always endangers other people for his own reasons. he takes suki’s dislike of them to be a very personal thing, and while i think what they did in the end was cool, i also think it was buster’s need to prove suki wrong and make himself even more well known than he already was.
i do like that he and nana settle into an amicable relationship tho!! she was always one of my fav designs and her outfits r always so cool
they don’t bring back eddie or mike, which i wasn’t surprised about for mike but i figured eddie would at least show up once or twice??
the meat of the movie is in the prep and final execution of the show ofc, and they pepper in PLENTY of conflict, side characters, and tension to keep things interesting. buster has conflict with jimmy crystal, suki, rosita, clay calloway, even johnny tbh!! not to mention other characters. ill mainly stick to the actual singers, bc i prefer those characters
not a super big fan of johnny having a cockney accent + dad being a criminal + unable to dance “properly” but idk. that fucking monkey was a bitch tho i hated him. klaus kicknklober or whatever. him meeting nooshy (???) and being able to actually learn to dance how he wanted to was cool, bc unlike rosita and gunter, johnny doesn’t dance/learn to dance in the first movie, so the continuity was a nice touch. i also liked that they just let nooshy and johnny be buds and didn’t try to force a romance or something stupid like that. however that might be a weird kid’s movie species thing where they only match up pairs of animals that are the same species.
also. the tiger johnny had to do the fight dance scene with ? totally into him.
rosita being a hard working mother and also having a career and having her main role taken by porsha was a shit move on buster’s part. like i get that he had to appease jimmy crystal but like jesus. way to spit in rosita’s face. esp dressing her in the GREEN costume and having porsha “defeat” her, like damn. that was HARSH. esp since buster wrote that role into the play (performance?) JUST FOR ROSITA. like damn. and her crying in the hotel bathroom and having to ask her husband for space made me sad. she’s just trying to keep everything afloat :( i did like that although rosita was upset she wasn’t ever petty to porsha, though i dont think they interacted enough for it to even be possible.
SPEAKING OF PORSHA. dude she definitely has daddy issues. they barely brush on it but the way he treats her is so bad, it’s not like the typical dad who dotes on and infantilizes daughter regardless of how much she cries, jimmy crystal got sick of shit REAL quick with her as soon as it interfered with his image and immediately dropped her. like yeah obviously stupid spoiled teenager but also she is a kid. idk if they have canon ages beyond teenager and adult tbh. i wish they had fleshed out her and her dads relationship a bit more too - obviously theres teenage rebellion there and jimmy crystal has clear issues with “being humiliated“ and all that and he’s so concerned w that he throws his daughter under the bus. also what happened to her mom?????
meena having to deal with that yak made me pissed off too, buster clearly STILL doesn’t know what kind of person meena is and who she would be comfortable singing with, but i guess they wrote out the kiss so that makes it better. i like that alfonso is like smooth with the moves and meena runs into the glass door with the ice cream. and that the orangutang coworker of alfonso’s is clearly rooting for them (watched meena get ice cream 4 times trying to talk to him and nudges alfonso to talk to her during the show) i did like that her romance wasn’t super in ur face and her challenge wasn’t stage fright again but this time just a teenager problem. i feel like porsha and meena couldve had a moment together where they meet in the middle and learn something from the other (confidence and maturity for meena and porsha respectively)
ms crawley was an absolute champ in this movie i love her so much. queen of getting shit done and also her visor is so cute ^_^ i felt so bad when she got paintballed. she also has great music taste
ASH AND CALLOWAY BOTHERED ME SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!!!!! ash being a solo artist was awesome and totally in character and even her being a calloway fan makes sense kinda ? but there was no moment in the movie where i felt like they had a genuine connection or moment of realization. ash just bugged him when he was very literally setting a boundary (electric fence ??? paintballs ??? firecrackres???? ALL THE SIGNS ????) and pushed him to perform again bc buster made an empty promise he had to badger some old man into agreeing to to fulfill. yeah ash plays him a song but like. her knowing his wife died and was his muse didn’t feel very emotional or give her a leg up over anyone else who knew who he was. she just was there and then calloway changed his mind. i also didnt understand the tea scene, whether or not there was significance to that or not. if i were to flesh out their characters more i would build a father daughter relationship between them tho, i feel like that would be cool. but it just felt like ash was forcing calloway to deal with things just so they could use his name for something instead of actually wanting to play w him for musical reasons. he didnt do anything particularly special in the performance except show up. idk he looked cool tho but i felt like they forgot to animate his tail ?? or it was placed weird on his back? i liked the white mane tho
they also just fucking fridged his wife which is bullshit. it makes sense story wise but also they could have easily made it something else. and then bc we aren’t given much mroe detail than “she was his muse she died of an illness (unidentified but we know it was bad bc she was in a wheelchair)” we have no way of connected with his story or empathizing with him about her death. it’s literally just “she died :(”. just seems like a cop out and a sexist one at that. then when she comes back spiritually so he can overcome his grief and perform it felt so hollow and contrived, there was nothing really emotionally charged about that scene. idk it just was lame.
also. for a kids movie i was surprised they showed buster almost getting killed and made that as explicit as they did ????? like damn.
johnny being able to call his dad and their ex-gang (just 2 other guys rlly) as protection was kinda cute tho, im glad their relationship got all worked out and stuff.
klaus literally trying to humiliate johnny in front of the entire crowd was a little scary too. i wasnt expecting such an in-your-face confrontation like that, but i like that it gave johnny a chance to freestyle and that the other dancers recognized that the teacher was being unfair to johnny and joined in with nooshy’s drumming. sky full of stars is also just a great song, i rlly love it!!
overall, an ok movie. i think they had wayyy too much going on to give each story the time it needed to reach their full potential, but the songs were good and i had fun watching it! which is rlly all that matters i guess. just wish they could spend mroe time fleshing out characters and stuff but when your cast gets that big your story becomes very plot driven very quickly and you stop being able to give everyone a fair chance on character development and stuff.

hey hi hey! what are your favourite songs + episodes?? :D
Putting the episodes first because I decided to go on a music nerd tangent later on. And honestly, I don't know what my favorite episodes would be (I like them all), so I think I'll just talk about of all of them.
Also this response got long as fuck so I'm doing a readmore.
Creativity: Man the puppets from back then are interesting to look back on XD. Mad at Sketchpad for trying to kill Yellow Guy's creativity (even though other teachers tried to straight-up kill him). That boy's clown painting was good! ;-; Also am I the only one who keeps rewinding to when Duck says his favorite color is red? He sounds so enthusiastic about it! Then the main thing of the episode, I interpreted it as conveying that we're told to be creative, but only within certain boundaries. This also reminds me, the fandom has some trouble characterizing Sketchpad. @/gnomeniche has a post about it somewhere too, but basically Sketch is a straight-edge jerk and just because they're nonviolent doesn't make them nice. Aaaaand of course there were those people who made them all murder-happy. They're the exact kind of people Sketch would despise, I'm afraid XD.
Time: I just realized I have very little to say about that episode 'cause it was a pretty straightforward one, but it had a nice song and the fish joke was funny, so was the "It's time to go to time." It also took me a while to realize that Red decayed too (I think), I thought his ass was really long lived and just kept growing more and more hair. The ending is really weird and I still don't know what exactly to make of it, we know they're in a simulation by now but yk.
Love: Just an overall nice episode, the friendship moments were sweet. As I say later, I like the song, and I refuse to ever, ever call Shrignold a butterfly. That is a baby pigeon always and forever. Probably the most horrifying part of the episode was the salmonella /j. Also, I believe in the Shrignold was Michael theory, not really sure why they'd just make that weird story up unless it related to something XD. And I think it ties in with a LoveBird fanfiction that was recently started, think it only has one chapter as of now but I'm enjoying it, first chap is from Shrig's pov (it doesn't explicitly mention Michael or anything tho).
Computer (or whatever it's called): Colin is best boy goddamnit and I talk abt this later but he did nothing wrong. Song fucks too ofc. I also love how done with life Red is the whole time, and the "wow, look, nothing!" Unfortunately I don't really have much to say abt the episode, I just like it.
Health/Food: Oh boy. This episode. What I would consider the only scary DHMIS episode (sorry, the rest are just interesting). The way Duck is so scared the whole time breaks my heart and makes me fear for him, the Steak Guy creeps me the ever-loving fuck out, and the music. Okay. So the lyrics are super weird, often contradictory or just plain wrong in a way they aren't in any other episode, which is super off-putting, and the rest of the time they're just obviously incomplete. You're like, what the hell are these mfs doing??? And the audio breaks when the phone calls come through, with the creepy-ass ambiance, it's so unsettling! Audio is a key piece if you're trying to scare me. DHMIS 5 certainly suceeds in that. And of course the actual stuff that happens. Oh my god. Best episode if you're a real horror guy.
Dreams: Intro is heartbreaking of course, poor Yellow Guy, but what a power move for him to just turn the light back off when the teacher first shows up! It didn't work but it was still a power move! Red Guy is such a nerd XD, and that guy who was like "Well, that's rude. No clothes" well okay then, maybe should've kept your clothes on bro. (Also wtf is with their office building why does the staircase look like that). The presence of the teachers extends to outside the simulator, as seen with the mic and box radio thing. That's interesting. And people don't tend to notice this, but Red Guy himself popped on the screen briefly when he was going through buttons on the thingy. Man the lore implications. (Also a very merry piss off to that one guy who theorized that Duck showing up on the screen was a sign that he wasn't real and that he's replacable XD.) Roy was certainly creepy here, but my bigger question is, doesn't stretching like that hurt his arm? Oh and also the rebooted guys are cute <3
Jobs: I kin Red Guy rn. I too wish I was doing Nothing Day. But back to the point, the autism in this episode was so high. Someone else pointed out it was a lot like masking, and yeah that's definitely what Yellow and Red were doing HARDCORE. Also I don't really ship Yellow x Claire partially for this reason, I just don't trust that Yellow was able to be himself at all just due to the work environment and stuff. (Also Yellow's aro.) I don't hate the ship ofc, that's just my thoughts on it. And Duck in the elevator, that part was great. Having him be presented with a stupid emotion chart and be like I don't know these emotions and knock it over was also an autism moment, as was being spoken over and told what your feelings are for you. That Stress song was stressful for sure and I felt bad for Duck the whole time, and I do not like the Carehound bc it brainwashed Duck. I am protective of my boy Duck. Anyway, at the end of the episode, Duck and the gang got a pound. In the next episode, when Larry goes on his little spiel about what happens after we die, he says they get a pound every time they get it right. I guess they only got it right for one episode, huh? (I guess it's also the only episode aside from 6 where the teacher didn't fucking die.)
Death: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. These guysssss. They can't live without each other! They love each other! Also I have beef with Coffin for the exact same reason I have beef with Sketchpad (stifling Yellow's creativity), but Coffin has a soothing voice so I don't care. I've also made a post abt how Duck was affected by the episode that I'm not gonna repeat here. I would say poor Stain Edwards, but like...I'm protective of Duck and I really don't want them replacing my boy so I kinda fear them. Memories is gut-wrenching ofc. And Big Day is the song that actually led to me getting into the series.
Family: *foams at the mouth* I'm going to hit Red's family with a truck and the creepy family with a truck and decide what to do with Roy but probably hit him with at least half a truck. (Partly joking, ik the twins are kids and there's prob something more to them.) Something I never see being talked about but I really enjoy is how the FAULBCHDT song is foreshadowing for the fact that the twins and their family aren't actually a real family. Still mad that Red felt like he had to apologize for being happy. The fact that Toddney managed to hypnotize Yellow Guy to sleep makes me wonder what the actual fuck is wrong with these two, and the fact that after the others leave Yellow Guy keeps asking where they are hurts me, also shows how he's got his awareness on. I am So Confused on how to feel about Roy at the end of this! I'm so confused about how to feel abt him in general actually! God I need to see him with batteries so bad.
Friendship: Wow. I dislike Warren so much, so like congratulations for making a well-written hatable character! (I don't hate him tho, for me a prerequisite for actually hating a fictional character is bad writing which isn't present here.) So happy about the Colin cameo in this episode, he's so cute (also he was adorable in Dreams but I forgot to mention that earlier). And the implications of Yellow Guy's maiden name being Rat-Eyes, that implies that his last name was never Gribbleston, which makes me think that Lesley's last name was passed on to the kid, which makes her full name Lesley Rat-Eyes, which I find hilarious. I have to wonder if the trio would've actually taken Warren to a restaurant style meal if he hadn't fucked up. Probably not. But it's nice(?) that the other two tricked Warren into helping anyways. Also the part that truly made me dislike Warren? Him being a dick to Shy Imaginary Older Brother. For reading slow and having difficulty with passwords. Very similar reason to why Warren was "defending" Yellow Guy. Warren doesn't care about jackshit, he just wants to be a hero and be fucking worshipped for doing...whatever the hell it is. Bro would totally bully me. Songs are good, fight scene is hilarious.
Transport: Absolutely amazing episode, I don't even know if I could explain because I feel like so many people have done so better than me, but anyways the end shattered my heart to pieces, actually a lot of the episode did, these poor fucking puppets. Honestly I'm really tired rn tho and pretty much everyone and their dog has talked about this ep so I'm not gonna explain further.
Electricity: Also an amazing episode, I was rewatching at some point and you can find it through the "#i'm rewatching episode 6 rn" tag (I'll tag this post with it so you can find it more easily), and I put a lot of thoughts in there, but I didn't say anything about Lesley, that funky woman. Her laughs at things that aren't funny and doesn't give straight answers swag is beginning to captivate me. It's making me wonder if she's the reason for this series' more comedic tone in comparison to the webseries. Also very curious what's above her ofc. I'd love to have a conversation with her and try to get an answer to literally anything.
I like every song from DHMIS. One of my favorites from the webseries would have to be the one from Love because it's super soothing when you ignore the context (and has the most actual singing which is important for me as a choir nerd), and also has an interesting chord progression with the frequency of its C augmented chords. The other fave from the webseries would have to be Computer (idek if that's the right name XD), because Colin is my favorite teacher, he's my special little guy who did nothing wrong and also the song is a whole vibe. Honestly I don't think he meant to harm anyone. I mean, ig there's debate on if anyone did, but Colin specifically? Definitely not.
As for the TV series, I really like the Electricity somg because first of all Electracey is my second favorite teacher, and second of all it's a banger, especially with the electric guitar parts. Plus everyone's just vibing! It's nice! I like the FAULBCHDT song because it's funny (I love how Duck is like wtf is this the whole time) and also vocal-heavy, the Worm In Your Brain song because it's rlly soothing, and Duck's Family song because it tears my heart out and eats it every time! Duck baby! He feels the need to pretend that he isn't lonely and that he's tough even when nobody's around, dearest it's okay to say you miss them we all know you love those other guys.
Side tangent, there are a total of four songs in DHMIS that aren't in what I consider a childlike key (just a key that many children's songs are in) (which I consider to be F major to A major on the circle of 5ths (so F, C, G, D, and A major)). These songs are the Stress song, which the melody is so weird that I don't want to bother pinning down a key (I think that's intentional bc it's ironically supposed to be a stressful song), but is definitely not in one of the earlier keys, the Memories song, which is in C major for part of it, but switches into what is likely C dorian (similar to C minor but with a natural 6th), but could also be G minor (probably not tho), the Worm In Your Brain song, in B major, and the Transport song, also in B major.
Aside from the Transport song, which is sung by an old man (so it makes sense for it to be in a less kiddish key), all the songs here have something to do with feelings, the Stress song with the feeling of, well, stress, Memories with grief, and Worm In Your Brain with anxiety and self-doubt. Also, all of these songs are from the new series. I feel like there's a connection to be made here but I'm sick and thus a bit stupid and can't explain it.
Holy shit this whole thing took like two hours to answer because I have chronic writes way too much and then gets distracted syndrome

juke’s great ffxiv persona au masterpost
ok here we go
disclaimer as before my oc my wol my beloved tiamat is a big part of the story but not the main character, more a deuteragonist. g’raha gets to be the protag bc he just has that face. she’s the wol in here just like all my other works but is of course way different than “the wol” in this context since. that is not a thing. anyway
general setting and characters are the same as canon ffxiv. it takes place in a modern universe so everything is adjusted for that. all the races are present and for simplicity's sake i've given everyone a boring human lifespan, tho there's probably some worldbuilding shenanigans to fill in the gaps and callback to ffxiv (for example: there's some historical evidence that suggests viera used to live for hundreds of years, but since it can't be proven it's a matter of ongoing debate). overall the world doesn't super matter for the meat of the au but it's good to have the foundation
the story specifically takes place in sharlayan, which i imagine to be a somewhat rustic mid-sized college city. it boasts some of the most prestigious schools in the country and cost of living is through the goddamn roof. to live there you have to have roommates or get really, really lucky with scholarships that are as rare as winning the lottery. the leveilleur and baldesion families are the two Big Names there and they own various universities and institutes and housing. the baldesions aren't as wealthy or powerful, but offer more benefits to students at large regardless of their financial status or background. the vast majority of scholarships come from their programs and funding. on the flipside it's near impossible to get anything substantial out of the leveilleurs bc they're extremely picky about what to put their money into. there's a stigma surrounding hem as a result-- that the only people in their good graces did some shady under the table shit to get there. the bad part is they're not entirely wrong, but it's not bc of the leveilleur family themselves but associates with too much power and too little supervision.
the cast consists of all the scions from 2.0+ onward, with varying degrees of relevance and history. i'm trying to keep things like individual character development consistent with canon as far as timing and events goes, with some adjustments to be less bad. most are university students, friends/family of said students, or people with weird connections that just tossed them into the group. the scions were already established as an anti-shadow unit prior to the beginning of the story, so there's various relationships and dynamics for our dear catboy protag to learn when he shows up. only a handful of the scions are persona-users, with the others involved by their request (read: refused to take no for an answer) to provide means of support outside of battle.
and battle! i decided the Shadow Place is gonna be WORLD OF DARKNESS, and otherwise 13th inspired, which can be accessed by rifts that have been suddenly appearing across sharlayan with no discernible cause. touching a rift causes the person to warp to the world of darkness, which is like a fucked up spooky dilapidated version of sharlayan. except there's no other people there and it's full of shadows trying to kill you. anyone without a persona who falls in there is guaranteed to die, since the smaller rifts are a one-way trip. the scions have personas with support abilities that allow for an artificial rift to be opened and closed on command, from the outside, and that's how they explore. also most of them call the world of darkness "wod" (pronounced like wad) and it annoys y'shtola specifically.
the defining event happened four years prior to g'raha (designated fool and wild card) coming into the picture. it was catastrophic and massively traumatic, causing the deaths of some of the original scions, yda and minfilia, as well as their founder, louisoix, and kickstarted a lot of off-screen events that will come to a head later. suffice it to say there was a lot of anger and interpersonal conflicts in their group afterwards, leading to the severing of friendships and some notable persona users outright leaving. over the last few years the atmosphere HAS settled somewhat, but bad blood is still very much present and not everyone wants to talk to each other.
characters and things they do and! i forget characters all the time so if i missed any (and i def missed some) don't worry about it
original scion persona users: y'shtola (empress): magic dps and heal. uses agi. current team leader urianger (hierophant): heal/support. uses zio thancred (emperor): physical dps and debuff. uses slash yda (strength): physical burst dps. used strike papalymo (tower): magic dps and debuff. uses bufu
new scion persona users: alphinaud (justice): heal/support. uses hama alisaie (magician): mixed phys/magic utility. uses slash, zio, and agi krile (temperance): navigator. can open artificial rifts g'raha (fool): wild card. starting persona is mixed dps and support. uses pierce and garu
??? persona users: tiamat (death): mixed phys/magic dps. uses slice, agi, and mudo. current field leader estinien (hermit): phys dps and debuff. uses pierce ysayle (moon): heal/support. uses bufu and hama zenos (devil) phys burst dps. uses slice and mudo
non-persona users still involved: louisoix (aeon) minfilia (high priestess) tataru (fortune) moenbryda (chariot) arenvald (star) haurchefant (lovers) aymeric (hanged man) lyse (sun)
and more.................
some various details that are important to the plot: -tiamat was supposed to be the wild card, but the Thing four years ago exploded the possibility of her journey and caused her arcana to settle as death. neither she nor anyone else knows that she was the og fool since she didn’t awaken back then, and only g’raha (as the current fool) could possibly learn of this at some point. -g’raha moved to sharlayan thanks to a baldesion scholarship and connections through krile who, as the granddaughter of the founder, pulled some strings to help her bff out of an otherwise tricky situation back home. he has never met any of the scions and only knows about them based on what krile said. -alphinaud and alisaie attend a nearby high school after kicking a fit (or, alisaie kicking a fit) over not wanting to go to a faraway Fancy Private School their father picked out, bc they wanted to stay close to their grandfather’s legacy. much like in canon, they’re both chasing down what exactly louisoix was so invested in... which gets them into the persona business. -tiamat is the only member of the earlier scions group to not technically be a scion at all (since it’s a funded university group for current enrollments) and also not be in any kind of school. she’s just there

Adapting my two main OCs to DGM! Because this manga is incredible and I really like the backstory I cooked up for them.
Names : they're part of the Bookman clan so it's Complicated™. At the moment, their names are Caleb and Alceo. Their old names included Regulus (for Caleb), Polaris (for Alceo), Deneb (for Alceo), Orion (for Caleb) and Gabriel (for this time they pretended they were only one person).
They're twins! They were born in the Bookman clan : their mother was a Bookman (because I rest my case that there are more than one Bookman) and decided to make them her apprentices. At birth, they both had black hair and white skin. Alceo had vitiligo but it wasn't very stark against white skin. The only true difference between them was their eye color : royal blue for Caleb and teal for Alceo (that's when they were kids, because then puberty did its job and suddenly Caleb was taller and less androgynous than Alceo) that's how they were able to pretend to be one person for one of their recordings.
Their appearance changed because of a Noah incident, actually.
They were just doing their job with their master/mother when they were attacked by Akuma. They had no innocence weapons, so they tried to flee. Sadly, all three of them were gunned down by Akuma bullets. The twin's mother died because of the star disease (idk how it's called actually...) but the twins... Weren't affected? They knew what happened to people who were touched by Akuma... But it wasn't happening? Confusing.
A few hours later, they got an explanation when a head-splitting headache occurred. They were... Sort of.... Noah. It's complicated actually. You know how the Noah (like.... The ones who reincarnate, not their hosts) just reincarnate at random into one of their descendants? Yeah, well. Biologically speaking, Caleb and Alceo were one person. So there was a sort of... Error. The Noah of Secrets, Mistral, sort of awakened.... Into both of them. They were, technically, one person, therefore the Noah gene awakened in both of them, but for the same Noah and that was... Weird. It was not like with Jasdevi, who were meant to be one Noah in two bodies. Mistral wasn't meant to be divided in two, and the twins suffered the consequences.
They both received the full memories of the Noah, and it's disorienting because they both remember the same things from the same point of view as the same person urgh. The good thing with being twins and having spent their whole life together is that a lot of their memories are already of the same events but it's still super weird. They find themselves acting the same more than usual.
Their control over their Noah form is... Spotty at best. The Noah memories weren't divided in two but the powers were do their control is fucked up.
Caleb's hair stayed black but gained a blue tinge, his skin stayed white except for his left forearm/hand that became grey/brown, his nails became permantly black too. His left eye became permanently golden, turning it back to blue is so difficult that he doesn't bother. He has four and a half stigmata on the right side of his forehead. Alceo has the other half.
Alceo's hair became white, their skin turned grey-brown except for their vitiligo (but now it stands out much more). Their nails turned permanently black and their right eye turned gold (they like it tho). They have four and a half stigmata on the left side of their forehead. They have the same difficulties as Caleb with turning off the Noah features, but in their cases it's more annoying because their Noah features are much more noticeable.
Their powers are, weirdly enough, easier to control than their appearance. This doesn't makes any sense and they don't like that. Alceo can use their powers more than Caleb can. They theorize that it may be the reason why there have more Noah features than Caleb.
The Noah of Secret's powers are, honestly, kind of weird. As the name implies, Alceo is able to just... See all the secrets that people keep? Like, as written sentences floating above their head. It's pretty useful for information gathering. Althought the definition of secret can be.... Unstable. Sometimes it's things the person doesn't want to tell anyone. Sometimes it's things only the person know (unrelated with their willingness to tell anyone). Sometimes it's secrets about the person being kept from them, like if someone was adopted but unaware of that. Alceo can also sort of turn into a ghost? Like they can make themself invisible and weightless and intangible, kinda like Tyki except they can only pass trough things and people, not do this thing Tyki does where he makes himself solid while inside people.
Caleb can also do those things but they cannot use the same power at the same time. Caleb cannot become a ghost while Alceo is one, and vice-versa. Caleb also got really good eyes, while Alceo suddenly had a very good nose (which, let me tell you, did not help the sensory issues).
The thing about the twins, is that they were gonna be good Bookmen. Like, they're just very good at their job. They're super observant and curious and they really lack empathy (that is not to say that they do not love ; they're simply able to stay unbiased even with people they love) and they loved being apprentices.
Obviously, now that they're a Noah, or two Noahs? Well they can't be Bookmen anymore. Which really sucks, because they REALLY loved their job.
They don't want to join the Noah family either because they don't want to destroy humanity - mostly for entertainment reason. Who would they record if humans died? They're so entertaining to watch. Also they have like a few people they love on this planet.
Their inner Noah is unable to "possess" them, to erase their personality (like Tyki's issue) because they're only half a Noah each. They do feel compelled to join the Earl, but again, they're only half a Noah. The compelling is easier to resist, and they still kinda are Bookmen so their mind is strong. Also, Lavi is one of the few people they genuinely love and care about, which means no going after exorcists. The Earl, because he despite everything loves his family, won't force them to join. It's a choice (it's just that no one ever refused) and he just can wait for them to die so that their Noah may reincarnate somewhere else.
They cannot join the Black order either. Not that the order would let them join, anyway. But the thing about being a Noah is that the Noah inside loves its family. A love so deep and strong and old and the twins can't go against the Noah family, because fundamentally, they love them. Sure, this is not their love and they can recognize that, but it is very very strong, and they don't see the point in fighting it (and well. Rarely did they ever love so strongly. It is nice, to feel so intensely).
So they decide that they won't act in this war. They liked being Bookmen, so they'll keep being Bookmen, even if they look weird and have powers now. They're neutral and will stay neutral. They do tend to dismember people for fun sometimes tho. The homicidal urges aren't exactly new but they certainly weren't that strong before the Noah event.
Relationships wise :
Lavi is one of the few people the twins love. And when they love (which is rarely) they love obsessively, deeply, passionately. Not in a Yandere way (Lavi is family) but they would do almost anything for him. It's pretty weird for Lavi, who's always been told not to love. But he can clearly see that the twins love him very very much. It's weird, but he likes that. It's nice being loved so deeply. He loves them too, if a little less strongly. Their masters met often so the twins and Lavi did too. They didn't exactly grew up together, but they're close. The twins call Lavi cerise or sage (see my post about the Bookmen apprentices having a nickname so that other apprentices can talk to them without asking for a name every time) and Lavi calls Alceo Polaris and Caleb Sirius. They were in a star phase when they assignated nicknames. They consider each other something like siblings. They're definitely family.
Tyki often visits the twins. At first they were wary that he was trying to convince them to join the Noah, but he was actually just curious about them. He never met a Bookman, much less a Noah-turned one. And given his problem with staying himself, he was interested to learn that they managed to stay themselves without much problems. Obviously, he was a full Noah so it was more complicated in his case. But he appreciated the tips they managed to give him. In return he helped them with the intangible part of their powers. They surprisingly really like Tyki, actually. Above the fact that their Noah instinctively loves its siblings, Tyki has a surprisingly good sense of humor and appreciation of life. They like that. Also he's really, really easy on the eyes, which doesn't hurts.
Besides that, the twins have a few connections - a little girl they see as a sister, a dude called Perséphone, a little pack of weird people.... A few there and there. They hope they'll survive the war.

Well, this is interesting! So, in that post yesterday, there was one line that really baffled me, a thing about people brushing off a character as an asshole “because he shows literally zero growth.” I kind of set that aside because it was such a weird non-sequitur, and guessed that it was just someone’s sentences not quite keeping up with their train of thought, which has happened to me many times. Apparently I was wrong! I already spent long enough on that one post, I’m tired of talking about that, but this is new and interesting.
Okay. I kind of wanted to see if I could talk about this purely in terms of abstracts and not characters, but I don’t think it’ll work. It would be frustrating to write and confusing to read. It’s about Jiang Cheng. Right up front: This isn’t about whether or not he’s an abuser. Frankly, I don’t think it’s relevant. This also isn’t about telling people they should like him. I don't care whether anyone else likes him or not. But I do like him, and I am always fascinated by dissecting the reasons that people disagree with me. And the process of Telling Stories is my oldest hyperfixation I remember, which will become relevant in a minute.
I thought I had a good grasp on this one, you know? Jiang Cheng makes it pretty obvious why people would dislike Jiang Cheng. But then the posts I keep stumbling over were making weird points, culminating in that “literally zero growth” line.
So! What happened is that someone wrote up a post about how Jiang Cheng’s character arc isn’t an arc, it’s stagnation. It’s a pretty interesting read, and I broadly agree with the larger point! The points where I would quibble are like... the idea that it’s absolute stagnation, as opposed to very subtle shifts that still make a material difference. But still, cool! The post was also offered up as a reason why OP was uninterested in writing any more Jiang Cheng meta, which I totally get. I’m not tired of him yet, but I definitely understand why someone who isn’t a fan of his would get tired about writing about a character with a very static arc. Okay!
Now, internet forensics are hard. I desperately wish I had more information about this evolution, because I find this stuff fascinating, but I have no good way to find things said in untagged posts, reblogs, or private/external venues. But as far as I can tell, that “literally zero growth” wasn’t just a slip of the tongue, it’s become fashionable for people to say that Jiang Cheng is an abusive asshole (that it’s fucked up to like) because he doesn’t have a character arc.
Asshole? Yes. Abusive? This post still isn’t about that. This is about it being fucked up to like this character because he did bad things and had a static character arc.
At first, that point of view was still deeply confusing to me. But I think I figured out the idea at the core of it, and now I’m only baffled. I’m not super interested in confirming this directly, because the people making the most noise about this have not inspired confidence in their ability to hold a civil conversation and I’m a socially anxious binch, but I think the idea is: ‘This character did Bad Things, and then did not improve himself.’
Which is alarmingly adjacent to that old favorite standard of ‘This piece of fiction is glorifying Bad Thing.’ I haven’t seen anyone accusing mxtx of something something jiang cheng, only the people who read/watched/heard the story and became invested in the Jiang Cheng character, but things kind of add up, you know?
Like I said, I don’t want to arbitrate anyone’s right to like/dislike Jiang Cheng. That’s such a fucking waste of time. But this is fascinating to me, because it’s like..... so obviously new and sudden, with such a clear originating point. I can’t speak to the Chinese fans, obviously, but exiledrebels started translating in... what, 2017? And only now, in 2021, do people start putting forth Jiang Cheng’s flat character arc as a “reason” that he’s bad? I’m not going to argue if he pings you in the abuse place, I’m not a dick. I’m not going to argue if you just dislike his vibes. I’m just over here on my blog and in the tag enjoying myself, feel free to detour around me. But oh my god, it’s so silly to try to tell other people that they shouldn’t like him because he has a static character arc.
I want to talk about stories. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to say, because it’s impossible to make broad, sweeping statements, because there are stories about change, there are stories about lack of change, there are all kinds of media that can be used to tell stories, and standards for how stories are told and what they emphasize vary across cultures and over time. But I think that what I can say is that telling a story requires... compromise. It requires streamlining. Trying to capture all the detail of life would slow down most stories to an unbearable degree. Consider organically telling someone ‘I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich’ versus the computer science exercise of having students describe, step by step, how to make one (spread peanut butter? but you never said you opened the lid)
Hell, I’ve got an example in mdzs itself. The largely-faceless masses of the common people. If someone asks you to think about it critically like, yes, obviously these are people, living their own lives, with their own desires, sometimes suffering and dying in the wake of the novel plot. But does the story give weight to those deaths? Or does it just gloss by? Yes, it references their suffering occasionally, but it is not the focus, and it would slow the story unbearably to give equal weight to each dead person mentioned.
Does Wei Wuxian’s massacre get given the same slow, careful consideration as Su She’s, or Jin Guangyao’s? No, because taking the time to weigh our protagonist with ‘well, this one was a mother, and her youngest son had just started walking, but now he’s going to grow up without remembering her face. that one only became an adult a few months ago, he still hasn’t been on many night-hunts yet, but he finds it so rewarding to protect the common people. oh, and this one had just gotten engaged, but don’t worry, his fiancee won’t mourn him, because she died here as well.’ And continuing on that way to some large number under 3000? No! Unless your goal is to make the reader feel bad for cheering for a morally grey hero, that would be a bad authorial decision! The book doesn’t ignore the issue, it comes up, Wei Wuxian gets called out about all the deaths he’s responsible for, but that’s not the same as them being given equal emotional weight to one (1) secondary character, and I don’t love this new thing where people are pretending that’s equivalent.
When Wei Wuxian brutally kills every person at the Wen supervisory office, are you like ‘holy shit... so many grieving families D:’ or are you somewhere between vindicated satisfaction and an ‘ooh, yikes’ wince? Odds are good you’re somewhere in the satisfaction/wince camp, because that’s what the story sets you up to feel, because the story has to emphasize its priorities (priorities vary, but ‘plot’ and ‘protagonist’ are common ones, especially for a casual novel read like this)
Now, characters. If you want to write a story with a sweeping, epic scale, or if you want to tightly constrain the number of people your story is about, I guess it’s possible to give everyone involved a meaningful character arc. Now.... is it always necessary? Is it always possible? Does it always make sense? No, of course not. If you want to do that, you have to devote real estate to it, and depending on the story you want to tell, it could very possibly be a distraction from your main point, like the idea of mxtx tenderly eulogizing every single character who dies even incidentally. Lan Qiren doesn’t get a loving examination of his feelings re: his nephews and wei wuxian and political turnover in the cultivation world because it’s not relevant, and also, because his position is pretty static until right near the end of the story. Lan Xichen is arguably one of the most static characters within the book, he seems like the same nice young between Gusu and the present, right up until... just before the end of the story.
You may see where I’m heading with this.
Like, just imagine trying to demand that every important character needs to go through a major life change before the end of your book or else it didn’t count. This just in, Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg go through multiple novels without experiencing radical shifts in who they are, stop liking them immediately. I do get that the idea is that Jiang Cheng was a ~bad person~ who didn’t change, but asdgfsd I thought we were over the handwringing over people being allowed to like ““bad”” fictional characters. The man isn’t even a canonical serial killer, he’s not my most problematic fave even within this novel.
And here is where it’s a little more relevant that I would quibble with that original post about Jiang Cheng’s arc. He’s consistently a mean girl, but he goes from stressed, sharp-edged teenager, to grief-stricken, almost-destroyed teen, to grim, cold young adult (and then detours into grim, cold, and grief-stricken until grief dulls with time). He does become an attentive uncle tho. He..... doesn’t experience a radical change in his sense of self, which... it’s...... not all that strange for an adult. And bam, then he DOES experience a radical change, but the needs of the plot dictate that it’s right near the end. And he’s not the focus of the story, baby, wangxian is. He has the last few lines of the story, which nicely communicate his changes to me, but also asdfafas we’re out of story. He was never the main character, it’s not surprising we don’t linger! The extras aren’t beholden to the needs of plot, but they’re also about whatever mxtx wanted to write, and I guess she didn’t feel like writing about Jiang Cheng ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But also. Taking a step backward. Stable characters can fill a perfectly logical place in a story. Like, look at Leia Organa. I’m not saying she has no arc, but I am saying that she’s a solid point of reference as Luke is becoming a jedi and Han is adjusting his perspective. I wouldn’t call her stagnant, the vibes are wrong, but she also isn’t miserable in her sadness swamp, the way Jiang Cheng is.
Or, hell, look at tgcf. The stagnant, frozen nature of the big bad is a central feature of the story. The bwx of now is the bwx of 800 years ago is the bwx of 1500+ years ago. This is not the place for a meta on how that was bad for those around him and for him himself, but I have Thoughts about how being defeated at the end is both a thing that hurts him and relieves him. Mei Nianqing is a sympathetic character who’s also pretty darn static. Does Ling Wen have a character arc, or do we just learn more about who she already is and what her priorities always were? I’m going to cut myself off here, but a character’s delta between the beginning of a story and the end of a story is a reasonable way to judge how interesting writing character meta is, and is a very silly metric to judge their worth, and even if I guessed at what the basic logic is, for this character, I am still baffled that it’s being put forth as a real talking point.
(also, has it jumped ship to any other characters yet? have people started applying it in other fandoms as well? please let me know if this is the case, I am wildly curious)
(no, but really, if anyone is arguing that bwx is gross specifically because he had centuries to self-reflect and didn’t fix himself, i am desperate to know)
And finally. The thing I thought was most self-evident. Did I post about this sometime recently? If a non-central character experiences a life-altering paradigm shift right near the end of the story (without it being lingered over, because non-central character), oh my god. As a fic writer? IT’S FREE REAL ESTATE. This is the most fertile possible ground. If I want to write post-canon canon-compliant material, adsgasfasd that’s where I’m going to be looking. Okay, yeah, the main couple is happy, that’s good. Who isn’t happy, and what can I do about that? Happy families are all alike, while every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way, etc.
It’s not everyone’s favorite playground, but come on, these are not uncommon feelings. And frankly, it’s starting to feel a little disingenuous when people act like fan authors pick out the most blameless angel from the cast and lavish good things upon them. I’m not the only one who goes looking for a good dumpster fire and says I Live Here Now. If I write post-canon tgcf fic, it’s very likely to focus on beef and/or leaf. I have written more than one au focusing on tianlang-jun.
And, hilariously. If the problem with Jiang Cheng. Is that he is a toxic man fictional character who failed to grow on his own, and is either unsafe or unhealthy to be around. If the problem is that he did not experience a character arc. If these people would be totally fine with other people liking him, if he improved himself as a person. And then, if authors want to put in the (free! time-consuming!) work of writing that character development themselves. You would think that they would be lauded for putting the character through healthier sorts of personal growth than he experienced in canon. Instead, I am still here writing this because first, I was bothered by these authors being named as “freaks” who are obsessed with their ‘uwu precious tsundere baby’ with a “love language of violence,” and then I was graciously informed that people hate Jiang Cheng because he experiences no character growth.

Texts from The Lost Tomb, part 3
I didn’t mean for this to stray into angst but like the lack of updates with Li Cu in LTR?? I had to do it to em.

Wu Xie: okay so it’s possible I fucked up a little bit.
Wang Pangzi: THERES JUST SO MUCH YOU COULD BE REFERRING TO I DONT KNOW WHERE TO START
Zhang Qiling: What’s wrong?
Honorary Wu Chat, 11:30am
Wang Pangzi: KID IM SO SORRY THAT PUNK IS A TRAINWRECK BUT YOU KNEW THAT
Wang Meng: Welcome home, Li Cu <3 not much has changed, ultimately.
Wang Pangzi: IT DIDNT EVEN OCCUR TO ME THAT HE WOULDNT TELL YOU EVERYTHING ABOUT IT ONCE THE REST OF US FIGURED IT OUT
WAIT HOW DID YOU FIND OUT
Li Cu: it’s okay. not your fault, uncle. Doesn’t matter how I found out. Wait wait hold on what do you mean “the rest of us figured it out” who figured it out
Wang Pangzi: SAY HELLO LIU SANG
Liu Sang: …hello.
Wang Pangzi: SAY MORE THAN THAT.
Liu Sang: uh…so you’re Wu Xie’s protégé, huh?
Li Cu: oh well howdy there homewrecker
Liu Sang: Excuse me??
Zhang Qiling: I think someone on the roof is calling me and I should go find out.
Wang Meng: I would also very much like to be removed from this conversation.
Wang Pangzi: AHAHAHAHA KIDDO IVE MISSED YOU
Li Cu: all I’m saying is aren’t you the little creep who’s obsessed with Xiao Ge
Liu Sang: ???
Zhang Qiling: Li Cu is referring to a brief period of irrational thought on Wu Xie’s part, where he mistakenly believed you to be a threat to our relationship.
Liu Sang: what do you mean a threat??
Wang Pangzi: WHAT DO YOU MEAN TIANZHEN HAD “A BRIEF PERIOD OF IRRATIONAL THOUGHT”
YOUVE MET YOUR HUSBAND RIGHT
Wang Meng: can you please take me off this chat.
Liu Sang: Wait, so Wu Xie told you about me, but…reading between the lines, he didn’t mention the cancer or anything bad that happened? Oh yikes.
Li Cu: don’t change the subject “Liu Sang”
if that is your real name
Like yeah you’re right abt it but still
just saying
heard you got good ears but I’ve got snake powers
kinda
so like no more funny business okay you superhearing harlot
Wang Meng: LANGUAGE, LI CU. IN THIS HOUSE WE SHOW GOOD MANNERS.
Wang Pangzi: LMAO OH DO WE NOW
Zhang Qiling: Li Cu, this is all unnecessary and childish. Please apologize.
Li Cu: you say that now bruh but apparently you weren’t complaining when he was all “idol this” and “idol that”
oh and hey Wang Meng while we’re here can I show you my business class grade report later bc Wu Xie is all “what matters is that you learned and enjoyed the experience” blah blah all eat pray love you know how he gets and I want to actually discuss areas to improve so that when I take over this joint I do better than Wu Xie? Tho that shouldnt be hard lol
Wang Meng: hurtful but accurate. I’ll bring my best red pen:)
Liu Sang: oh my god. I’m too jetlagged to keep up with any of this.
Wang Pangzi: BEST. DAY. EVER. IM SCREENSHOTTING THIS FOR HEI XIAZI.
Not A Homewrecker Chat, 11:52am
Liu Sang: Okay, we started off on the wrong foot.
Li Cu: I agree let’s start over
Start with how your little prank game almost got ppl killed
Liu Sang: And I seriously regret that. But we moved past that.
Wow, he seriously skipped over so much bullshit but didn’t skimp on mine, huh.
Li Cu: AHA so you ADMIT IT
Liu Sang: I’d like to think I’ve grown since then. That I’ve come to see Xiao Ge as a person and mentor, rather than an idol. I count Pangzi and Wu Xie as my close friends. I’m going to be staying here with them right now, I hope you can be okay with that.
Li Cu: see in my head you were going to be a lot less mature about it and I had a bunch of great follow-up insults planned
Liu Sang: I figured. I’d like us to be friends, though. Or at least not enemies.
Li Cu: okay but only bc you don’t know me yet so you won’t judge too much for this and I need to get this out to somebody I’ve been thinking about it for hours and my friends are still in finals and I’m stressing a little bit maybe
Liu Sang: ?
Li Cu: I yelled at dad
*Wu Xie sorry autocorrect
Liu Sang: …uh huh.
Li Cu: I yelled at him earlier. for keeping all that stuff from me. He started crying
Liu Sang: Wu Xie has been pretty emotional since we got back. Not necessarily your fault.
Li Cu: I made him cry right there at the kitchen sink and it felt like maybe the worst thing I’ve ever done
Snake venom and stabbings, no tears
Me saying I wouldn’t have gone to his funeral, all tears
Which I know was shitty to say but I was really mad
Liu Sang: If it’s any consolation, I think Wu Xie can understand the concept of being led by his emotions to make bad decisions…better than most people.
Li Cu: Xiao Ge came in then and looked weird
Like weirder than usual
Like he didn’t know which of us to be more mad at
Liu Sang: A common problem for the iron triangle, I understand.
Li Cu: I just ran out I didn’t have words right then and I feel stupid
but whenever they come back from their walk I’m gonna say sorry and stuff bc i could’ve come home to his funeral and I’m mad about it but also like. I could have come home to his funeral. I can get mean when I’m in a freakout mood. It’s not like I was scared or anything at all I don’t get scared really anymore ever but just like. Freaked out.
Liu Sang: He’s probably going to say sorry, too.
Li Cu: sorry I called you a homewrecker. Didn’t mean to slut-shame either
Liu Sang: I admit that after the initial shock, it was pretty funny. Super hearing harlot, it should be on my business card;)
Li Cu: this situation with Wu Xie is weird but kinda good ya know. And I have these freakouts sometimes that something maybe bad could happen to this situation. So consider this a shovel talk. But like, also not a shovel talk at the same time.
also I appreciate you saving his life and whatnot
Liu Sang: Noted. Now. Coffee?
Li Cu: sounds sick.
Be in the kitchen in 10. You can pick out what we watch for the household tv show tonight. no way is Wu Xie choosing some dry documentary about gravestone rubbings again. Pangzi just watches real housewives reruns and Xiao Ge won’t watch tv after he caught the last half hour of A Walk To Remember. Also i need my phone now to send some $ to Hei Xiazi since I owe him for…providing some intel
Liu Sang: Not even surprised.
