Jack knew what he was about to do was just him acting on pure jealousy and possessiveness. It was a bad idea, but how was he supposed to act seeing her grinding up on some guy. Granted they have been broken up since December and he was the one who broke up with her, but still. She shouldn’t be doing that unless it was on him. Luckily the song ended she excused herself from the guy and made her way to the makeshift bar. 

‘Fuck it’, he thought. Jack got up from his seat and made his way over to her. He shrugged off Urban’s hand as he tried to stop him. Some of the guys called after him, knowing he was about to do something stupid. 

“Adriana.” he greeted her casually. He glanced down at how the short skirt was hugging her ass. 

“Jackman.” she said, not looking up at him.

“Is that your new boyfriend?” Jack asked her. 

Adriana looked up at him, unamused, “Don’t start.” She took her drink and pushed past him. 

Jack waited a few seconds for her to give him a flirty smile but she didn't and kept walking. 

“Wait, is he?” He called after her. 

She ignored him and kept walking to her friends, by instinct he followed her. When they saw him behind Adriana, they all shot him daggers with their eyes. At the moment he wasn’t their biggest fan. They never were, mainly because he and Adriana have been on and off for the last few years and they didn’t like that he was, allegedly, leading her on and that their relationship wasn’t going anywhere. In his defense it wasn’t that he didn’t see a future with Adriana. He did, but he couldn’t give her what she wanted right now. She understood that and never pressured him for more. She also had a lot on her plate and Jack knew of her goals and aspirations. 

Jack had known Adriana since they were in high school. She was his tutor for all his science classes and he would give her pointers in her writing because essay writing wasn’t her strongest suit. All through high school they had that ‘will they, won’t they’ vibe and were even voted ‘cutest couple that never was’ during their senior year superlatives. They didn’t act on their feelings until almost three years later. Adriana and Jack began dating in late 2018 after the release of Loose when he dedicated Sylvia to her as Sylvia was her middle name.

They stayed together until the release of SWEET ACTION and Jack’s fame skyrocketed. They tried to make it work, but Adriana told him they should just stay friends. Them being friends didn’t last long, they got back together just in time for the release of his debut album. People knew of her, he never hid his relationship status from his fans or the general public. Surprisingly there wasn't much uproar on the fact that he was dating her, save for the few entitled fans that didn't like that he wasn’t single. What got in the way of him fully committing to Adriana was his work. There were times where he couldn’t see her with how busy he was with touring and everything else that kept him away from Louisville. That was the start of their messy cycle of being on and off for the next two years until they agreed that it wasn’t healthy for them to keep breaking up and getting together. 

“Fuck off,” Harmony told Jack. 

“I haven’t done shit.” he said defensively. 

“Yet.” Desiree mumbled loud enough to hear him. 

“Why are you here? Don’t you have some influencer to fuck?” Yesenia sassed him.

“Can we talk?” Jack asked Adriana, ignoring the others. 

“No!” her friends answered for her.

“Fine, damn.” he said, walking back to his friends. 

Adriana turned to her friends. “Five minutes.”

She couldn’t help it. No matter what she still had this unconditional love for him and vice versa. She knew Jack loved her, but what they wanted wasn’t ideal at the moment because of how busy they were. Jack with his music and Adriana with med school. They weren’t in any rush to start a family or get married. As pathetic she sounded, she was willing to wait for him

“¡No seas pendeja!” Desiree scolded her.

“Girl,” Harmony gave her a pointed look. 

“Adri, be so fucking fo’real.” Yesenia whisper-yelled. 

“Let me just hear him out. I owe him that.” Adriana reasoned.

“Why do we bother, we know your ass isn’t going to listen.” Desiree rolled her eyes. 

“It’ll only be five minutes. I swear.” she said, getting up.

She grabbed her bag and went after Jack. Adriana knew that when she got back to her friends they were going to drag her. Before they went to the party, they were at the host’s birthday dinner. The birthday dinner was for only the core friends of the group. During the birthday dinner they made sure Jack wouldn't get near her and that she was always with someone so Jack wouldn't swoop in and talk to her. They knew that with a simple hey, she would be under his spell. Fortunately Jack sat on the opposite end of the large table with the guys, but that didn’t stop him and Adriana from eye fucking each other from across the table. 

Jack was waiting for her by the stairs. 

“Five minutes.” Adriana said, going under the chain that said that upstairs was off limits.

Jack was a few steps behind her. She led him to a guest room at the end of the hall where they could talk more privately. The second they entered the guest room, Jack was on her. 

“Jack, no,” she pushed him off.“You said you want to talk, so talk.”

“It’s like that? I haven’t seen you in almost four months.” he pouted. “You didn't even come to my birthday party.”

“I didn’t go to your party because someone didn’t invite me.” she said, taking a seat on the edge of the bed. 

“I missed you.” Jack said, sitting across from her on a desk chair. 

“I’ve been here.” Adriana shrugged. “If you wanted to hang out or whatever, you could have just hit me up.” 

They stayed silent for what seemed like an eternity. Adriana got annoyed. She was always the one who initiated everything for them to get back together and Jack would just go along with it. 

“This was a mistake.” she sighed. 

“Adri, wait.” Jack said, gently pushing her back down on the bed. He reached down for her hands and gently rubbed her knuckles. “I know I’m not the best at talking about us and my feelings. But I do miss you. I hate waking up and not seeing you reading those big ass textbooks beside me. I miss seeing you in your t-shirts singing to old school reggaeton while we clean. I miss going out to eat and having you pick an appetizer by doing that Mexican shoe saying. Most of all I miss you because I love you and I don’t see myself with anyone but you.”

“I love you too, Jack.” Adriana said softly. 

“But,” 

“But we can’t keep doing this.” 

Jack nodded. She was right they weren’t going to be able to move on if they kept regressing into each other. They sat in a comfortable silence. He removed his hand from her hips and placed them on her shoulders. His bright blue eyes stared into hers then he slowly leaned into her, capturing her lips. The kiss was slow like a test in the waters. Lust quickly took over as their kiss intensified. He held her in place with his other arm as his lips dominated her. She was practically on his lap now. Adriana whimpered into his mouth when Jack deepened the kiss. 

It didn’t take long for them to get naked. Jack laid her down in the middle of the bed and got on top of her. One of her hands found its way to Jack’s curls while the other dug its nails onto his back. She moaned out into his mouth, feeling his hips rut against her bare core. She wrapped one of her legs over his waist as he deepened their kiss. 

What felt like an eternity later, he pulled away and kissed down her body. He pulled away from her lips and kissed down to her chest. He tweaked one of her nipples while he nipped and sucked her other breast. Satisfied with the love bites on her chest, he captured her lips once more. Jack pulled away and kissed down her body, settling between her thighs. He placed her thighs on his shoulders and peppered kisses all over her thighs.

“Adri, wait.” he called after her, but she was already downstairs. 

Jack didn’t mean for it to come out like that. He wanted to tell her that he wanted to take things slow. One of the mistakes they would do when they get back together is continue where they left off. According to his therapist that’s what causes issues between them. They have to get to know each other under a new lens. 

He walked around the house looking for her and didn’t find her. He also didn’t see her friends, so he figured she left. Jack decided to also call it a night and went home. He got in bed and pulled out a picture. It was of him and Adriana from the ‘Thru the Night’ music video. It was one of his favorite pictures of them. They looked so young and full of love for one another. He wished he could have done things differently, but he couldn’t change the past. 

He fell asleep soon after. About an hour later his phone began ringing. He reached for it and slid the screen, not checking to see who was calling him.

“‘Llo?” He answered, stifling his yawn.

“Is Adriana with you?” Harmony asked. 

“No, why would she?” He said. 

“Because we haven’t seen her since she went to talk to you.”

Jack sat up. “What do you mean you haven’t seen her? I thought you all left after we hooked up.” 

“We tried tracking her location and nothing.” 

“You’ve got to be shitting me. Let me help y’all look for her.” he said.

He hung up and grabbed his keys and shoes as he walked out of his house. He started the car and drove out. He tried calling her as well, but it kept going to voicemail. He passed the diner she wanted to go to before they argued and then braked, realizing she could have gone there. He did an illegal U-turn and pulled up to the diner’s parking lot. He spotted her in the back and pulled out his phone to text her friends that he found her. 

He entered the diner. He pointed to the back. “My friend is in the back.” he told the hostess as he went to the back. 

Adriana was nursing a large tray of curly fries and vanilla milkshake. Jack was about to lecture her for not answering, but decided not to when he saw how she looked out of it. Her mascara and eyeliner painted her cheeks. She sniffled and wiped her nose with her sleeve. 

“Hey,” he said sitting across from her. He reached for a curly fry and dipped it in her milkshake. 

She gave a pointed look then slid the malt cup to him. It was the leftover milkshake from her’s. They silently ate the fries and milkshake. When they finished, Adriana reached for her card inside her phone case, but Jack pushed her hand away and set a hundred dollar bill down on the table. He led her to his car and helped her inside. 

“Can I stay with you?” she asked him softly. 

“Yeah.” he nodded. 

Jack pulled out of the parking lot and drove them back home. They picked the house together when Jack bought it. They spent countless nights talking about their future plans with the house and the extra rooms. They talked about starting a family and how they imagined their kids. But those talks usually ended with them agreeing with how they’re not ready because of their busy schedules.  Adriana lived with him for a few months. When they broke up a few months back, he offered her the house, but she said it was his house since he paid for it. As of now she lived with Desiree. 

He was about to press the button to close the garage before Adriana ran out to the bushes and threw up. Jack held her hair back and rubbed her back as she continued to throw up. They stayed like that for a bit until she let out everything. They made their way inside. She went to a bathroom by the kitchen to wash her face and rinse her mouth. Wordlessly she followed Jack upstairs to his bedroom. He gave her a t-shirt and a new toothbrush. She took them and went to change in the bathroom. 

Jack was waiting for her to get settled so he could go to sleep in one of the guest rooms. He texted her friends and let them know he brought her back to his place. They replied, thanking him for finding her. He saw her phone on the bed and plugged it into the charger. It lit up, alerting him that it was out of battery. 

“Can you stay with me?” she asked him when she came back out. 

“Okay.” he agreed. 

He laid in his spot and she attached herself to his side, wedging her leg in between his. He rubbed her back.

“After tonight, this really needs to end.” Adriana said, fighting back more tears. “We have so much on our plates. We can’t keep doing this. We’re going to burn out and hurt ourselves even more. ” 

“I know, but tonight I want to pretend like you’re still mine.” he said, intertwining their hands together and placing them on his chest. 

“I will always be yours, Jack.”

5SOS5 (Deluxe version) track by track overview

Who I have gathered each song is primarily written by/whose story.

As of May 8, 2023 (can always change of course where I’m still unsure in a few places, I remark where).

"Complete Mess" - Luke brought the romantic “you make me complete” chorus, Ash and Cal went and wrote the verses. So basically Luke and Ash, it’s their story together. Ash has the pic of Luke wearing the associated shirt on his phone, ready to show people.

"Easy for You to Say" - Ash wrote the topline (aka lyrics). Which is cool because that’s who I suspected the first time I heard it on their tour. It sounds like his writing. It’s about wanting to settle down in Australia.

"Bad Omens" - possibly Ash wrote, he’s also replied about it on twitter to a fan saying it’s about letting go of people in your life (he also gave the director idea for the music video), I have suspicions though that its about Michael and Calum’s relationship because of hints in the music video. The main character is wearing an earring like Michael. Reference to brown eyes (Crystal’s are blue, Cal’s are brown)

"Me Myself & I" - has a Michael feel to it but I’m not 100% on this one. Being selfish and self sabotaging and excessive lying.

"Take My Hand" (Joshua Tree version) - Luke credited as sole writer, it’s about his own transformational experience.

"Carousel" - Ash, no one talks about lyrics that passionately unless they write them (see the Making of Carousel video), also pay attention to how Luke and Ash are towards each other. “Epic voice” heart eyes ❤️, “epic song”, then Luke singing like Nickelback (shared fave band of theirs).

"Older" (featuring Sierra Deaton) - Luke and Sierra wrote the start of a take on 50’s love songs, then after Luke jokingly sent a voice note to Michael, he pushed them to finish it. Stunt song, but they shaded it for music video. Ash dances with a BLONDE curly haired lady as his partner. At end of video only see the back of a female with Luke for a few seconds. Should’ve been Luke and Ash duet.

"Haze" - not sure, Ash said it took the longest time to write. The part where Luke and Ash are singing to each other about when they’re together don’t have to play pretend. “And when you pick me up, now I don't have to play pretend, And I am human once again”

"You Don't Go To Parties" - Ash, wanting someone who isn’t right there. Reference to 5 years, it’s possible when they finally locked it down since they moved in together (2017) 5 years from when this song was released. Then, there’s the blue sapphire ring (5 year anniversary) that showed up on Ash’s hand where he had been wearing the matching with Luke black onyx ring, on 5sos5 listening party day. Can also have a theme relating to sobriety changing how you relate with partying.

“Blender” - seems to be Calum?

"Caramel" - Luke and Ash written, with John Feldmann for production, Cal for bassline. Lashton love song dealing with how life has gotten more complicated “it used to be easy” but they've been in love so long "It's been a while since you and I have been where we started, I don't want to let it fade away" don’t want to give up on how they’ve felt since the beginning of falling in love “don’t like it fake, I relate, I think it’s true love”. “Love like a landslide, I kiss you Goodnight”, Saying at the end of the day, I still love you. Possibly connected with Fleetwood Mac “Landslide”, sonically the guitar strumming is similar. Ash is a big fan of FM. Landslide about Nicks’ romance with bandmate Buckingham.

“Best Friends” - the whole group, written late in the album making process about their own friendship and to give fans a camaraderie song.

“Bleach” - written with Sarah Aarons, was originally a jingle pitch for Clorox. I'm unsure if to connect this with anything or what to connect it with. Sometimes, a song is a song.

“Red Line” - Ash being melancholy, The Red Line was the train the boys took while living in London, to their songwriting sessions (and whatever else in the area they needed to get to).

“Moodswings” - All 4 have credit. Response to Luke’s “Slipping Away”? Seems to parallel in concept to that song a bit. My suspicion is the lyrics are written by Ash and Luke, Cal for the bassline and/or helping with cohesive lyrics, then Michael for production.

“Flatline” - Ashton wrote, when asked what it was about during the youtube live, Luke slid the laptop towards Ash to answer. I think Ash wrote it for himself about Luke (with a dark twist to it like he did with Complete Mess).

“Emotions” - Michael?, During Ash ig live, right after the line  "I don't wanna think about it, Maybe that's why I'm always high”, Ash said “it’s about me”. Possibility it’s not written by Michael, it was just Michael who sang it because he sounded the best. The guys have said they choose who sings certain parts by who sounds the best at it.

“Bloodhound” - not sure. Too much coincidence with Ash solo album song titled “Greyhound”. So could be Ash.

“TEARS!” - Ash, of course. “Diamond tears”. Is it a coincidence Luke has a song called “Diamonds” on WFTTWTAW? Doesn’t feel “alive” and is “crying”. Why such torment? Depression/sadness and how alone it can make you feel.

'The 5SOS Show arrives as a victory lap to cap off the last decade.'

'It’s been seven years since 5 Seconds Of Summer last played The O2. In 2016, they were a very different band and have undergone quite a transformation on the journey back to the top.

Tonight’s performance, dubbed The 5 Seconds Of Summer Show, honours every version of the group so far, flexing their outstanding versatility over the course of a two-hour spectacular. Amidst a disjointed touring schedule (last year’s album ‘5SOS5’ was toured before its release, in conjunction with a late tour of 2020’s ‘CALM’), The 5SOS Show arrives as a bit of a victory lap to cap off the last decade.

The boys have long been vocal about their want to be taken seriously as a band, but in 2023, the show speaks for itself. Worlds away from the touching album preview show at London’s Royal Albert Hall this time last year, the ability to morph tracks old and new from those sentimental orchestral moments to these wildly fun arena bangers is a testament to the band’s skill and creativity.

Opening with ‘Bad Omens’ – the track they closed that last London show with – it kicks off a run of their more mature tracks: the nostalgic ‘2011’, lovelorn ‘Caramel’ and huge sax-solo number ‘BLENDER’. Where previous tours have seen the boys settle into this flow, with setlists comprising mostly of recent material, this one throws that out of the window, instead enlisting endless fan favourites and tracks that haven’t had live outings for years.

Older album cuts like ‘Babylon’ and ‘Why Won’t You Love Me’ from 2018’s big switch-up ‘Youngblood’ earn a place, but it’s ‘Sounds Good Feels Good’ – the album they were touring on their last stop at The O2 – that really gets its dues, with ‘Vapor’ and ‘Waste The Night’ getting the biggest ‘if you know, you know’ reaction.

5SOS know exactly what the fans want to hear, doubling down by rolling out an inflatable dice with heavily requested tracks printed on it across the crowd to select one, eventually ending up on debut album cut ‘English Love Affair’. One fan also took matters into their own hands by lobbing a DIY dice plastered with ‘If You Don’t Know’ on every side towards the stage; guitarist Michael catches it but unfortunately doesn’t cave in to the request.

It’s just one of the moments in the show that sets 5SOS apart from their peers. The set is divided by occasional video interludes, including one where the boys dress up as surgeons and diagnose the audience as 5SOS fans. Another segment sees drummer Ashton do a bonkers solo in a battle against the crowd for who can be louder, which ends in the other three boys returning to the stage to set off ketchup and mustard bottle-shaped confetti cannons following a vocal cue of “GET SAUCED”.

The whole show is outrageous fun, whether it’s these moments that call back to the nonsense of their old live shows or purely just rattling through the bangers; 5 Seconds Of Summer prove their longstanding relevance throughout the mammoth set tonight. It’s not just a performance that sheds light on the boys’ own skills, but one that also demonstrates the ways in which 5SOS and the fandom have coexisted for over ten years, something shown rather literally during ‘Best Friends’, 5SOS’ ode to one another, that turns that camera on the audience and encourages them to have a cuddle.

As 5SOS prepare to take some time off, The 5 Seconds Of Summer Show is a phenomenal bow out until further notice. Much like their discography, it’s consistently surprising, equally ridiculous and emotional, their growth as a band more obviously laid out than ever before.' X

song of the day is another favorite of mine, bleach by 5 seconds of summer <3

i feel like i say this about every artist i post on here, but 5sos is truly one of my favorite bands of all time (like top 2 level favorite). i’ve talked a lot about them before, but to sum it up, i’ve loved them since 2014 and feel like i’ve gotten to grow up alongside them. this band and their music is truly everything to me.

if i’ve said it once, i’ve said it a million times — i am the worst at picking favorites, especially when it comes to music. but 5sos5 (5sos’s fifth album, self explanatory) is 100% one of my all time favorite albums. everything about this album is just so special to me, and even though it’s been out for almost a year and a half, the novelty still hasn’t worn off. it’s genuinely a masterpiece in my eyes.

bleach is a song that kind of snuck up on me; it didn’t stand out too much to me on the first few listens, but now, it’s one of my favorites on the album. it’s one of those songs that feels happy sometimes and sad other times, which is a quality a lot of my comfort songs tend to have. that’s exactly why i chose it for today: a day where nothing was wrong, but nothing really felt right either.

if you’ve had a rough day — or, like me, you’re just not feeling your best — bleach is a really good song to listen to for a few reasons: inspiration, reflection, or just letting yourself feel the way you’re feeling. it all depends on how you take it.

Aww it's nice to know my creative presence is missed! (How has it been 2 months since my last fic already? And 4 since my last Ash? 😯)

To be completely honest, I've been writing this entire time and unfortunately some health struggles (I used to talk about it a lot more on the blog but I have a handful of chronic physical ailments - and unfortunately some fairly unforgiving anxiety - that can be quite the time/energy vortex) have flared and made writing challenging to say the least. I had a Valentine's Day story I had to shelf, I started my long-teased 5SOS5 release week fic with the intention to coincide with the 6 month album anniversary and even as recently as last week, I got about 3/4 thru a Luke fic (yes it was about the thigh high boots 🤡) that I wasn't able to finish in the desired time frame. (And this is all on top of two very special long form WIPs I've been trying to chip away at for months!)

Soooo... yes, things are coming but I unfortunately can't say exactly when. Writing is genuinely everything to me and I can't tell you how disappointing it's been over the past year that circumstances have consistently complicated it. But I've been working on finding solutions and trying my best to get my mind and body back in order to return fully to this thing that I love doing so much. I truly appreciate the continued interest and support you guys show me and my fics, it's something that's been especially encouraging and motivating during these hard times. I know I'll get where I need to be, we just need to be patient 💙

this list was genuinely SO hard to put together!! i feel like every artist i love dropped new music this year thanks to all the studio time they had during the first couple years of the pandemic. sorry to all the great albums that didn’t make the cut - it’s not you, it’s me. 🫠

these are absolutely NOT in order because that would be an impossible task. and now, without further ado, i’ll put my rambling below:

1. give me the future + dreams of the past by bastille

i’m sure no one is surprised to see this one on my list. if you ARE surprised then idk what to tell you. this album was so surprising and different in the best way, especially after how meh i felt about doom days when it was released. thank you for the futuristic grooves mr. dan bastille!!!

top 3: stay awake?, revolution, hope for the future

2. s.i.d.e.s. by alice merton

alice was hands down the best discovery i made this year (thank you again mr. dan bastille). and just in time for her sophomore album!! it’s hard to pinpoint what really makes this album a standout for me. it honestly has it all: great vocals, honest lyrics, catchy hooks. plus alice is just so humble and so cool. how can you not like her?

top 3: future, mania, same team

3. crash by charli xcx

when crash came out, my friend was insistent i listen to it because it was “the best pop album since future nostalgia.” honestly? she was right. this is easily charli’s magnum opus. it’s so good.

4. 5sos5 by 5 seconds of summer

as soon as they released me myself & i as a single i knew this album was going to be It. truly their best work. one of the best parts of listening to 5sos over the years has been hearing their sound mature and this album feels like the culmination of that maturation.

5. five seconds flat by lizzy mcalpine

every single song on this record feels like a hammer straight to the chest. lizzy’s lyrics are some of the best stuff i’ve heard in ages. this has to be not just one of the best albums on my list but objectively one of the best albums of the year period.

top 3: erase me, doomsday, all my ghosts

6. conditions of a punk by half•alive

they dropped half of this album back in february as give me your shoulders pt. i and at the time i was fully ready to stick that on my “best of” list - then the rest of the album came out just this month. no one is doing it like half alive. no one. they are so singularly themselves in their sound, their lyrics, and their live performances/visuals. i can’t believe they’re not being hailed as geniuses by music critics everywhere. 

top 3: hot tea, nobody, make of it

7. the loneliest time by carly rae jepsen

queen carly hath returned!! once again she has crafted the perfect pop record. listen - i know i’m aromantic but this woman’s music just makes me want to be in love sooooooo bad.

top 3: beach house, anxious, talking to yourself

8. faith in the future by louis tomlinson

the main takeaway from this album is that louis really was the heart and soul of 1d’s songwriting in the later years. his sound on this record is so reminiscent of midnight memories in the best way. this is what i was hoping his debut would sound like - and while walls didn’t quite make the mark, this record most definitely did.

top 3: holding on to heartache, common people, lucky again

9. apocalypse whenever by bad suns

this record is light and fun and i love it. no thoughts just bops. while i do miss bad suns’ language & perspective era grittiness, i dig their newer sound just as much.

10. cleanse by joywave

a perfect transition from possession at the start of the pandemic to now. i knew this record would be great when they dropped the every window is a mirror EP last year and “after coffee” took over my life. and i was right!!

November is already here! So surprising to see the year already be over! The times have changed and I love them so much. I've been trying to catch up on new releases but I don't feel like I'm doing too well, so if there's any new projects that you wanna recommend then please let me know! I probably won't stop listening to 5sos5 for some time now, so get used to seeing them in every monthly list lol.

This month is very busy for me, I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time this year, and since I'm really young I feel this pressure to do really well, but I know I'll be able to handle it all at the end of the day. Also my birthday is this month, so I'm going to be having a party that I also have to plan, which I'm really excited for! I'm going to try and finish posting my 5sos CD collection before December because list season is a big deal to me and I want to strictly focus on that. I’m still obsessed with 5SOS5, so I want to focus on Bad Omens for the Marauders’ era. It can even apply to platonic relationships, like Lily and Snape because we canonically know that Snape was hurling slurs at other Muggleborns and Lily was justifying her friendship with him to towers (“It’s too late. I’ve made excuses for you for years. None of my friends can understand why I even talk to you. You and your precious little Death Eater friends—you see, you don’t even deny it! You don’t even deny that’s what you’re all aiming to be! You can’t wait to join You-Know-Who, can you?”), so Lily ignored the signs of what her best friend had become until she no longer could (“Can't help the way I keep ignoring every omen / Every omen / Heaven knows I should let go / It's nothing that I don't already know”), that song is ridiculously fitting for the backdrop of the war and how it’s tearing apart every relationship (romantic relationships [like Jegulus if that’s your ship, Wolfstar where Remus and Sirius canonically distrusted each other, but probably tried to ignore the signs until they had to acknowledge “there’s a spy, and I think it’s the man sleeping beside me right now”], platonic relationships [Peter and the Marauders where none of them realized his betrayal until far too later, Lily and Snape], familial relationships [Sirius with his family depending on how one views his relationship with them in the years before he left.]) People who tried to keep their relationships, hoping that eventually they’d go back to the way things were if they just ignored the warning signs, but eventually they were no longer able to pretend and had to acknowledge that this was irreparable.

Also, unrequited love (“I cried in your dark brown eyes for the thousandth time / 'Cause you love somebody / I died when you left that night for the thousandth time / 'Cause you love somebody else”) fits great, so Snape/Lily from Snape’s perspective in Seventh year, where he utterly destroyed his friendship with her but still is in love with her, and then watched her fall in love with James. Unrequited relationship set during the first war are honestly perfect for this song, because it’s got the distrust element and the “watching the person you love be in love with someone else” aspect; 5SOS decided the First Wizarding War was the theme of their 5th album (note, this is a joke, they have not made any comments regarding Harry Potter, the album just has great vibes for it)

It's fine, I'm not hyperventilating or anything.

Look, I've actually listened to this album (at least the songs i like from it) a lot since it was brought to my attention after its release. And as I've said before, I've never been a follower of 5SOS. I think before someone actively began passing me their songs, I'd listened to one by choice and knew it was them, and that was only because I came across it on the radio one day.

But it's like they really did craft the perfect album here for the First War years within HP, and I love that so much. I could rant on and on about several of these songs in relation to headcanons for that era/ships/characters, but Bad Omens is a BIG ONE. It's actually become one of my favorites, right up there with Caramel. And then I was guided to the music video, which was admittedly a trip, but it was also so very perfect.

I think in my initial review, I compared it to Wolfstar (also Jegulus), but I think I remember saying it gave me strong First War vibes in general, and it definitely does that. It can honestly apply to every relationship during that time period, whether platonic or romantic, no matter what side of the war someone fell on.

I love your comparison to Lily's and Snape's friendship and how it fell apart. I have...some issues with Snape that I try not to vocalize to often in a serious way, mostly sticking to joking headcanons that don't amount to much, the him watching Lily slip away from him and fall in with James, fall in love with him as he stood back and was forced to watch must have hurt so badly. I think Snape was too obsessive to a degree that any relationship between him and Lily couldn't have been sustained for long, regardless of his meddling with the Dark Arts and who Lily considered to be bad people, but the song fits so well because of that and everything else.

The whole Peter betrayal thing as well. None of them saw it, not a one. Peter was that good. He blended into his surroundings that well and was so easily overlooked that no one had the slightest idea of what he was truly doing. But you can't tell me that somewhere in him there wasn't guilt. There are numerous substantial reasons to dislike JKR, but the fact that she never once even tried to explain why Peter did what he did will forever be one of mine. Those were his best friends all through school and beyond. No, we don't know what happened, how they treated him, and maybe it's a fandom thing (though i don't think it completely is) but I've always thought James cared a lot about Pete. I think he kept Peter close because he liked him. They must have liked him, otherwise why stay his friend? Why trust him enough to give him the responsibility of keeping your family safe?

Say what you will, but they loved Peter, and he must have loved them at some point. It makes no sense why Peter would have betrayed James of all people. Sirius, maybe. That actually lines up because I think Sirius was cruel to Peter when he wanted to be, had little patience for him overall, so him framing Sirius is sort of like his just desserts. He didn't do anything to Remus that we know of, and I think that's because Peter likely always idolized Remus just as much as he did James and Sirius, but Remus was always far kinder to him in the grand scope of things. So something must have happened at some point to make Peter think that betraying James and essentially being the cause of his death was warranted. Was it because he drifted away, focused on the war and his family more than his friends? I don't know, but I'd like to, because there are gaps there.

(sorry. that was a tangent i didn't initially intend. oops)

Back on the main point, Peter must have had some sort of guilt for what he was doing and what he did. You can't be that cruel after spending half your life with people you claim to like/love and then blow everything up with one action and decision. So relating this song back to him and the way everyone circled around him and never focused in on his true nature is so very fitting.

I could write an entire ten page essay on this song in relation to Wolfstar. I've been thinking about it a lot and trying desperately not to do so, because I know the more I do, I'll want to write a fic about it. And that's the very definition of been there, done that repeatedly, not just myself, but the Wolfstar fandom as a whole. The entire Remus/Sirius distrust, slipping away from one another but still clinging on out of desperation has been done so many times and I'm trying incredibly hard not to add more to it unless it just won't leave me alone.

What I really want to talk about with this song is Jegulus. And I'm no expert. I'm only just pushing my toes into the water with it, trying to acclimate myself with the whole thing because I actually really like it in a way I thought I wouldn't we I jumped back into fandom and found it to be this large, growing thing that I'd never even seen mention of back in the day when I was writing before. It was a bit baffling, but...I dunno. I'm coming around to it more and more. But my point is don't judge anything I say to harshly because I'm only going off of the small amount of things I've seen/read.

But just think about their relationship in relation to how we know canon goes. James gets tired of chasing after Lily, falls in with Regulus somehow at some point, possibly before he gives up the ghost. Maybe it's Reg that makes him see reason and that James is being a knob, I don't know. They gravitate to one another, fall in love, but it's never the most stable of relationships because it can't be. Regulus is still a Black, James is exactly who he is in every way, that golden boy, head in the sun, pure to his core no matter what you want to say about him bullying (which has two completely different sides, but that's not the topic at hand here). Regulus is a Slytherin, James a Gryffindor. Tensions are mounting higher because of the growing war. They're constantly being tugged apart, in different directions, but they try so hard.

They ignore the signs when they can, they focus on one another as much as possible, but it's never enough to avoid the outside world circling around them like vultures. Regulus takes the mark and James can't sit by and watch his life go up in flames because of his decision, so he finally says enough and pulls back. He dives into his Head Boy duties headfirst, sways Lily to him in the process, but maybe him and Regulus continue to drift to one another because they can't help themselves and James still holds onto the hope that he can convince Regulus to turn his back on his choices. It doesn't work. James finally says enough, sets off into a life with Lily instead, fully committed, and Regulus can't tell him why he has to stay where he is, why it's so important, but he goes after the locket for James, to try and make it easier to put an end to the war. And we all know how that ended.

5 Seconds of Summer - 5SOS5 Album Review

Before we begin, I would like to make it very clear that I am not a professional critic. I judge completely based on the vibes and it's all about my PERSONAL tastes.

Now, let's talk about 5SOS5 because I absolutely adore this album!

I have been a 5 Seconds of Summer fan for many YEARS now. I'm less of a fan of their first two albums (though there are some bangers) and more of a Youngblood and CALM stan. So, when this album came out, I was definitely surprised. It was very different from the last two albums.

First, we'll look at my rating from when the album first came out, back in September of 2022.

I initially didn't like this album all that much, as I was comparing it to the last two albums. They really aren't comparable, as the style is much different. I think it's a fantastic album, the great songs are great and some of the forgettable songs still aren't awful.

Let's Talk About My Favorite - As shown in the September review, Bad Omens was my favorite song. The album was released the day after their ONO show at the Royal Albert Hall, where they performed some of the songs early. Bad Omens performed live, with the orchestra in the background, was fucking LIFE CHANGING. Now, I am a major Bleach fan. It's heartwrenching and the lyrics are some of the best lyrics I've seen from them.

Let's Talk About My Least Favorite - I don't have much to say about Emotions. It just isn't my style and I don't find the lyrics to be partially interesting. It just kind of feels shallow, like a TikTok celebrity wrote it.

hi! i just found this blog and i love it so much. i was rewatching the cocktail chats videos from the youngblood era and i noticed that calum is wearing a ring that seems similar to the matching ones that luke and ash wear? but obviously only luke and ash wear the matching rings now and ashton even has that sapphire version. is calum’s ring in that video actually similar? either way, lashton having matching rings is so significant and cute 🥰 🌈

I looked back at the videos, and yes, it does appear that Calum is wearing what appears to be a black onyx ring. The difference is that no one else is wearing a matching one in these videos nor during this era as far as I'm aware.

At the time of Youngblood/YB promo, there were the star rings that Luke and Ash had that were matching. I have a post tracking interviews and videos they each wore them during, sometimes at the same time, sometimes alternating who has theirs on (much like they have been doing with the black onyx rings during 5SOS5 era, Ash is more likely to wear his if he isn't playing).

Then there were Luke and Ash wearing engagement bands during the 10 Year Anniversary Show on YouTube.

I find there's significance to the black onyx rings because they both are wearing them even when they are just out and about, or at home. They aren't something they're wearing for show. Like you said, they have some significance.

Also, since I'm in the 1D fandom I saw, Harry's costar in My Policeman David Dawson, announced he and his partner got married, with black onyx rings.

So I found that a bit interesting.

The Whirlwind Of 5SOS (5 Seconds Of Summer at Madison Square Garden)

'I’ve reached my peak being able to photograph for 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) in August. Hands down. Nothing beats being less than three feet away from one of my favorite bands and taking professional pictures...

I’ve been a fan since I was ten years old and seen multiple shows of 5SOS. This one was by far my favorite – my version of “The Eras Tour,” if you will. Getting to walk out in front of the barricade and setting up my camera was probably one of the most daunting moments I’ve had to prepare for. It was my first time shooting a show at Madison Square Garden and I can’t believe I had the privilege of doing it for a band I know and love. Beginning to build my concert photography portfolio, I had reached out to their publicist about this opportunity as well as doing a concert review, and was grateful she had accepted.

Words can’t describe the pure adrenaline pumping through me as the intro video was screened and the first notes to “Bad Omens” started playing. The show began with a sense of anticipation and excitement as the iconic guitar riffs filled the arena; fans were transported back to their early days of discovering 5SOS. It was a nod to the band’s roots and the audience reveled in the nostalgia of those early hits.

5SOS has evolved remarkably since their early days and that evolution was evident in every song they played. Tracks like “Easier” and “Babylon” showcased a newfound depth and maturity in their music and proved that they are more than just a pop-punk sensation. Although I have always loved their boyband sound, sonically I have grown to love the new maturity in their music that comes along with getting older.

For a lot of fans, being part of this experience was a full circle moment. Many have followed 5SOS from their early YouTube covers to global fame. Starting out with the early pop punk music from 5 Seconds of Summer, the band grew in popularity for their distinct sound. Over the years they developed into a more mature sound, and after the hiatus the band took their quality shifted towards making music more personal and connecting to each of their lives with their most recent 5SOS5. The nostalgia wasn’t just about the songs; it was about the memories and milestones associated with the band’s music.

I believe this concert was more than just a musical performance. Every show that I’ve attended of theirs sends me back to my favorite early 2010s memories. The show was well-thought out with state-of-the-art lighting coloring the stage in scenes representing various eras. Personally, I enjoyed their use of pyrotechnics and how even though it was unconventional, they had confetti blowing during their second song. Typically I don’t see confetti until a grande finale, but I appreciated the gesture even though it was early in the show.

From the early pop-punk aesthetic to starting a collection of my favorite band tees, the production value demonstrated the band’s commitment to delivering an unforgettable show and highlights their evolution as seasoned entertainers.

I witnessed not just a band, but a group of artists I grew up with. That night was a testament to the power of music to connect generations and create cherished memories. This concert wasn’t just a gig; it was a lifelong dream realized and a memory engraved in me forever.'

Easy For You To Say

I heard recorded versions of this and I heard this at my show, but I am so glad that I didn't fully get into the song at the time because hearing the recorded version for the first time was such a different experience. This song relates a lot to my current life experience. You're ready to change and you've looked back on the hard times and the good times that you wish you could go back to, but changing is always, easier said than done.

Bad Omens

This song is absolutely insane. Everything. The vocals, the arrangement, the strings, the instrumental, the lyrics. You think the song will go one place, and then it leaves you in a hopeful place. I just watched the Royal Albert Hall version, and it gave me chills. Defs going to be one of my new favorite 5sos songs.

I will admit this isn't my favorite song off the album. It's fun and hits harder in concert. But compared to their other songs it's simple. It is relatable tho.

Take My Hand - Joshua Tree Version

I loved this song from the first listen. The instrumentals, vocals, and lyrics. This song hits on a deep emotional level. This year has been very difficult for me, and this song has helped me get through the year. It feels like a warm hug and a reminder things will be ok. Hearing this in concert was so important to me. I like the original version better than this version.

CAROUSEL

She's a middle-of-the-road song. I like her, but she's less memorable compared to some other songs. But I think it's fitting - the repetitive nature of it because it fits well with the idea of a carousel. I think most of these songs will resonate lyrically... . The first and second verse of the song makes me think of a Taylor song, but I can't figure out which one.... (Since listening to the album more, I have been able to distinguish this song and it has been one I continue to come back to)

She's GORGEOUS. She isn't quite the feel I am going for at the moment. But this would be so lovely to dance to with a partner. But I am a single pringle. Haha. She's best years 2.0

HAZE

It's going to be hard to rank the upbeat songs compared to the slow/soft/sad songs. From an early listen the song made me feel in the moment, I imagine just dancing, staring at the ceiling and just feeling the music. I like that you can feel the influence of Luke and Ashton's solo albums in some of the songs. It makes me wonder what Michael or Calum's solo albums would sound like.

You Don't Go To Parties

It's giving 2000's nostalgia. She's fun. I really liked her on my first listen. Getting a lot of Ashton in this song is fun. Gives me a talk fast/moving along vibe to it (thematically).

BLENDER

The thing that is funny about this song is the word blender is a word we would use a lot at work (but we were not actually talking about a blender). I can related to my emotions feeling like they have been in a blender this year lol. Very fun that the music video came out shortly after my 5sos show, and it included clips from my show (there's one clip I am 100% in!!!). This is a song that hearing the title makes me think the ranking is lower, but she's fun (will still rank her lower, though because she's a single, gotta give my new guys time to shine)! Gives some oldies vibes with some of the instrumentals at the end.

Caramel

The instrumentals are so hot. The lyrics are contrasted. This song just has me like!!!!!!! (I just get so distracted by this song I never have anything more to say)

Best Friends

Best friends is fun! I can tell this one will grow on me more. best friends>>>best friend. I really like the line: "Silver lining's golden shining/Perfect timing now"

Bleach

When I think of this song, I imagine the story starting with ghost of you, moving to comedown, and then going to bleach. I feel like the instrumentals transcend the lyrics in this song, and it conveys such a deeper meaning, without saying it. It's heart break and not even knowing yourself. It's numbness.

Red Line

This song I will need to listen to more and sit with the lyrics to fully understand them. The ending has a chokehold over me. I feel like I am falling upward. Also now finding out it's a train, it feels very fitting... starting in the dessert and ending on a train...moving to the next location

Moodswings

We have another song that is giving 2000's nostalgia <3. This song has a subtle build to it, but by the end, I am absolutely obsessed with the song. I really like the songwriting in this song (it has some similarities to why won't you love me, which is one of my favorite 5sos songs). I feel like this specific subject isn't one that is touched on in songs often when you are so hurt that you start to push people away (this could just be in your head or an experience with an actual person). I would love to hear this in concert. I initially said the chorus is my favorite, but now it is probably the bridge - it. is. so. good!!! This song is going to continue to grow on me!!!

Flatline

Sonically this makes me think of Joe Jonas. The beat is fun, but the song is repetitive which makes me feel like it might rank lover over time.

Emotions

Lol this song represents me all of 2022. I love that we get a song entirely of Michael, I love Luke, but I love having variations in who is singing from time to time. My favorite part is the bridge with that said, generally speaking, this style of music doesn't resonate as much with me.

Bloodhound

MICHAELS PART!!!! This song is fun, but the lyrics are still vague to me. Thematically it feels like it fits well on Youngblood, enjoying oneself but not listening to the cues around you that something might be wrong.

TEARS!

There is more than one way to view this song, but I see it as healing. You're deciding not to use distractions (the internet, food, drugs, etc) to numb the pain and just live in the moment and accept the feelings you are experiencing. Easier said than done. But it helps you reach the point where you feel alive. Like the song says, it can make you feel like you are continuously falling down and like you're the only one feeling what you're feeling - but then it's juxtaposed with fun music which ultimately brings us to living.
