Oh this a welcomed one!

I adore Raph. He's one of my favorite character types - the gruff, protector who inside has this heart of gold, he just has to work through some stuff.

Rise Raph, will be first to go in this department, what a himbo, what a gem, what a sweetie. He's still got some of his rage, but he's more so the protector of the family. I love details like the bandage on his chest, that smile. His interactions with his brothers and April are so funny and wholesome. (The Lair Games and The Clothes Don't Make the Turtle are my favorite episodes for some choice brotherly moments)

Then we get to 2003 Raph, who is the one I first saw, the one who made me adore the character as a whole. This is the one I related to the most, because of the mix of his heartfelt moments, mixed with sometimes being too much.

Shoutouts to Lone Raph and Cub, for being the best Raphael episode. This boy just wants to save his loved ones and his brothers and father, bring out the best in him. Meet Casey Jones is another great Raph episode, because we see how Raph can turn OUT if he's not careful (and showing his merciful side, which I feel like is a character trait, that doesn't get talked about enough?)

The fight between this Raph and Leo too... this was one where, Raph had some good points. Leo had issues to work through but then he comes back and just expects everyone to be ready to go back to how it was... and Raph's been keeping things in check, while Don and Mikey tried to keep them financially afloat, (frick I should've included 07 Donnie too, but again *points to "I see them as the same just older"*) and Raph had to keep the city SAFE.

Some of the BEST ficts I ever read, involved that fight in the rain. Mmm that was good HOT SOUP

But then... my favorite Raphael of all time...

IDW Raphael is everything, I love about him and more. He's this protector, he's still got his temper, but his bonds with his family, with Casey, with Alopex...

DA02:TB WAS AMAZING!! Personally, I enjoyed it WAY more than Last Evo Kizuna, and that's really saying something since I think about DA:LEK a lot. I'll be talking about spoilers and my thoughts down under the readmore line!

Okay, so I'll start off with the one thing I somewhat dislike first before getting to positives and just gushing about details: I didn't really like the fact that the digivices dissolved. That's it, really. This is mostly because I'm a bit worried about how travel between the human world and the digital world would work, now. (Also, maybe this is just my Miyakari brainrot, but I was thinking about how this would make it harder for Hikari to visit Miyako... it's ok, my lore brain comes before any kind of shipping brain, but I'm a little bit sad.) Personally, I'm just headcanoning for fun that they eventually can just. Go into digital screens persona-4-style since I think that would be goofy, but that's probably not going to happen lol.

On Rui: I was really pleasantly surprised at how he's written!! Honestly, I felt his frusturation; honestly, I was a bit peeved at what Hikari said to him when he first told the 02 team about the time he broke his digivice due to what Ukkomon did, because even though I agreed with her on what she was saying, I felt like she was ignoring his point of view and his understandable grief. (People aren't perfect when responding to other people's trauma all the time though, so I don't mind from a story perspective.)

I really liked Ukkomon's weird eldritch tentacle form. The tree branches make me think that it's probably Yggsdrasil that Ukkomon has contact with? Since they didn't specify what Ukkomon's connection is, I really hope they explore it more in the future with more episodes, or maybe even another animated series. (Though, maybe a movie would be better for the sake of a more polished end result? Idk, more digimon content is always welcome to me.)

The one scene of Daiken baiting was kinda funny but a little sad since yknow it's queerbait and we know it won't happen canonically due to the epilogue 😭 and the directors doubled down on the epilogue in interviews so we know its not happening... I remember clearly seeing Daisuke blush, but I think Ken was largely unaffected, which, if that blush is anything other than embarrassment, has some slightly sad one-sided connotations. (I'm a Bi Daisuke truther. Maybe I'm delusional. Who cares it's for fun)

This is just a small detail, but I noticed that Silphymon's voice (in the dub at least) (I watch sub usually but the only viewings near my area for both today and tomorrow were dub viewings) was just Tailmon's voice and had none of Hawkmon's voice, which was kinda interesting? It doesn't matter much, it just stuck out to me. I thought it was kinda funny.

I do wish the 02 cast interacted with each other a bit more, but I'm not nearly as bitter about that as I thought I would be, since Rui was a main character I enjoyed. If there's more digimon media in the future that riffs off of this movie, I *would* like it if the 02 cast got more focus, but Rui is a welcome addition to me. (I hope they all get to meet Wallace again at some point... that would be really fun [said by a person who has Hurricane Touchdown as their favorite movie])

Overall, I thought the movie was really good. It had a few other issues, and as someone who's used to the sub I found that the dub voices weren't *entirely* my favorite (except Rui, Rui's performance was excellent), but they didn't bother me as much as I thought they would, making for an amazing experience imo. Review sites I've looked at put it at a B, but for my personal opinion, it's one of the best pieces of digimon media in a LONG time. I'd recommend that you watch it yourself to form your own opinions though (if you haven't watched it and are still reading this for some reason hah) since that's what really matters.

Oh boy!! all of them? basically? lmao since I enjoy her a lot, I would always love seeing more of her dynamics with other people. but let me spotlight a few I think would've been fun (ok more than a few sorry):

annie - even though, yes, the maeve/annie arc is important and vital, i really would've loved seeing more of them in s3 (which their arc is just kind of suggested by one convo in 304 then the finale - it felt like there was something meatier intended, perhaps, and maybe i'm deluded but I choose to believe there was more written that was scrapped for scheduling reasons or something.) but I also wish we could just see more of them being in a friend era!! training together... maeve being casually way stronger than annie... annie recounting more ways she used to be a fangirl for maeve to make maeve uncomfortable...

hughie - simply check any posts i've tagged maevehughie lol the potential is so there. i can imagine so many wonderful things with them and also maeve/annie/hughie ot3

Butcher, not because i genuinely wanted to see them interact but solely from the angle that if they were GONNA have this alliance in s3, I would've liked to see more of how it developed, how they got together, how they felt about each other etc.

Genuinely sad about this one, I understand it would've been real hard to maneuver them together in a meaningful way but i think they would be best friends. honestly, I think if you asked them they might report that they see the other one as a friend from their one interaction of beating the shit out of stormfront together. i imagine them hanging out in complete silence and having a great time together.

MM, I don't know exactly what I'd want from them, i do treasure the singular moment of him being disgusted with maeve's dirty feet on his coffee table... and idk what else they'd do in character, but I am charmed by the bits and bobs of Laz and Dominique in some interviews/panels together, i think I remember one bit where they were asked who from the show could wield mjolnir or whatever (thor's hammer from the MCU?) anyways like dominique, i haven't seen the movies... but i remember laz immediately said MM would be worthy to wield it, and then he explained to Dom what it meant and she was like "oh yeah Maeve too for sure." and idk how to put into words but I think there is some common thread between Maeve and MM of being like, true-hearted warriors, if you cross someone they care about they WILL wreck you.

Becca? again idk how they would ever actually have interacted but i find that narrative relationship they have so interesting... like i almost wish Maeve had been made aware of Becca & Ryan mid s2 and maybe helped with the plan to break Becca out? Not that I dislike what maeve was up to in s2 but that just also would've been a really interesting angle. plus forcing maeve to confront the question of how much she knew about what Homelander did to Becca/other women over the years and why she never spoke up or stopped it.

Stormfront!! which I know sounds weird but we got scenes of Stormfront tormenting basically every other member of the Seven and I just think it would've been cute and funny if she made some homophobic comments to Maeve once or twice

Madelyn, of course, because strangely enough Maeve and Madelyn never exchange an actual spoken line with each other on the show at all, and yet I have an incredibly detailed and vital and nuanced relationship constructed between them in my fic lmao

Why do I love the idea of a cursed Astronomy Club so much?

Everyone in this show is so cute. Does Mawin have a thing for Tin? And Luna's determination to have her astronomy club is - sing it with me, kids - super cute. My first impression - Marry me!

My impression now - He's such an interesting character and one of those characters that makes me want to know more about them. Which I think some of the mystery surrounding the character is answered in the manga but I haven't caught up with it in a long time. (stares at my unread volumes sitting beside my bed). Also he's such a good dad and husband. I love how much he cares for his little family even if it is "for the sake of the mission".

Favorite thing about that character - Despite constantly thinking, "I can't get attached. This is for the mission," he still cares. Everything he does, he does because he cares about others.

Least favorite thing - Probably how oblivious he is 99% of the time. I know it's for the plot, and I enjoy that aspect of the plot and his character, it does annoy me though lol.

Favorite line/scene - This is kinda just from the series in total, but when he passes out on the couch and Anya curls up with him. It's so goddamn cute and wholesome!

Favorite interaction that character has with another - Any interaction between him and Yor. Their misunderstandings are so funny.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more - I'd like to see more of him and Scruffy together. I really enjoy the little we do see them interact. I would honestly watch a spin-off of them going on a mission together.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character - John Watson from Moriarty the Patriot strangely enough. I can't exactly explain why though. (Maybe it's the hair)

A headcanon about that character - Really likes Jazz music and if he wasn't a spy he would have a massive record collection.

The Mysterious Benedict Society Liveblog Season 2 Episode 3: A Gold Bar in Fort Knox

Alright folks. I'm tired, I'm procrastinating, and ready to hyper fixate. Will SQ Garrison and Martina finally come back in this episode? Or was Disney+ unable to get the actor's contracts renewed and are hoping we don't notice? I hope not, but either way I'm still watching. Just the episode summary is getting me excited "Benedict takes a gamble with Curtain"- after a season where they didn't interact until the last episode (and in flashback land), I really want to see that dynamic between the brothers.

1:30- Alright her comes the polo team. Oh this is when they are hiding on the rope thing from the trailer aren't they? Yep I knew it. Time for the theme song!

3:00- Good point Reynie. There's really only two reasons someone as crazy as Curtain would kidnap you. 1) to cover his tracks and 2) get his son some friends. And he's clearly shown where his priorities are at considering how much of his son we've seen this season.

3:30- in hindsight it was very considerate of Curtain to kidnap them around the same point the scavenger hunt ends so that the kids can find them. He could have just kidnapped them at a random point, sent his spies after the kids, and made this impossible on their end, but at least he plays fair.

4:00- "People are becoming dependent on an artificial state of mind", do I smell social commentary coming? Because I'm just here to see Curtain get hit with the golf cart. YES TACTICAL FUNGAL INFECTION. PFFT- "to infect my brother with love" "he craves my approval", oh my gosh, poor Nicholas. Out to destroy his brother with the power of love and friendship. "well that was on his turf" "So is this" lol, what would Benedict's turf even look like, didn't Curtain's spies kick him out of his house multiple times?

6:30- Oh my gosh they are searching for phones, I told y'all last episode: you have the tech for brainsweeping. Just invent an iphone, it's much less complicated and will save you the trouble of looking for a landline.

6:30- "at least they are away from danger" and... cut to danger. Yes. I love this flight announcer. Yes Rhonda, helping everyone out, she's honestly the most stable person in this show.

7:17- YES NOLAND AND CANNONBALL. I've heard their characters in the show are nothing like the books and I don't remember and I don't care they are funny, so they get a pass. I love how into this conspiracy they are and I love when B plot characters act like they are not only the A plot, but the be all end all of everything. "Not just stowaways...they undermined our culinary excellence" "why haven't you found them" "some are quite small" I mean, he's not wrong. TWO HOURS LATE? THREE? oh dear. Faltering Marriage? Losing his house? Man Noland is going through it.

8:50- are the kids finally gonna get to hustle people like in the trailer? Of course the girls want to gamble. I'm with you Reynie, but I also saw the trailer and know you're gonna make bank. I love how the guy looks at Constance like "ok kid, you're in" IS CONSTANCE PLAYING WITH LOADED DICE? I know 7 is the most common combo, but that was a lot of 5/2 dice combos. Yeah Reynie, you probably should have sat this one out.

12:00- Oh my gosh his stupid little television show. False. Your name is Nathaniel Benedict and you are known for being a pathetic fool who has no idea where his son is. Oh great is he hypnotizing him.

13:30- not the cough drop ad, poor Milligan. Very true about the worrying. Not sure how I feel about the potential relationship here. Never really shipped anyone in the show. No strong positive or negative feelings yet. I do love that they can talk about their parenting struggles together.

16:00- Reynie, it's just card counting, I don't know if I'd consider it cheating. HAHA-- KATE. It was very obvious cheating too, I'm surprised no one caught them. Sticky's version was the smartest option here. Reynie, calm down, Sticky's money is fine, it was strategy. Awe Sticky <3. CONSTANCE. "when Benedict is in the ground"? She is hurting bad. Oh this is such an awkward confession.

18:40- Awe, he's so nice to them. Honesty really does pay. Too bad those water polo players are gonna steal all their money. Maybe they'll apologize and give it back later.

20:00- YES TELL HER KATE RESPECT THE SPORT. Yes Cannonball! Oh dear he's pretty winded. Take a breath man, you've worked hard. Lol, "reformed gamblers". I love how he says stowaways as if he's saying the world "murderers" and asking zero questions about the potential kidnappers or gamblers.

Still wondering where SQ, Garrison, and Martina are. Don't hate love or care about the maybe maybe not adult romance. Need more Constance backstory ASAP. Nolland and Cannonball will be missed, and I hope they come back.

when you Knew TM they were your bias  LMAO the way u literally watched my realization in real time... okay but i don't actually remember what exactly cemented my coffin. i started noticing his rarer soft / calm / cute moods (instead of his obnoxious parodies of aegyo) and that he just happens to be good at everything. Ok so I’m the anon who was yelling at you about not needing KinnPorsche to become my new Special Interest and damn you! I’m hooked! I meant to come bug you after each episode but I binged all the available 8 episodes yesterday and couldn’t stop lol! So thank you, I hate you 😂

I have so many thoughts but can we please talk about Tankhun and Porsche. I kind of love their relationship. Tankhun was annoying to me in the very beginning but I actually really love his character now. I totally related to him watching the same series over and over again because it gave him comfort. I’d rather do that than go out most of the time because I’m autistic and very introverted so I fully understood why he did some of the odd things he did or seemed to overreact in situations like when his beloved fish were killed. I have a kinship with his character and imo he’s sometimes a much needed comedic relief.

I feel he’s mostly misunderstood and pretty much just tolerated by most of the family and bodyguards/staff, but I feel like there’s so much to him. He’s more complex than I think anyone around him fully understands. I loved that during Kinn and Porsche’s wilderness heart to heart, when even Kinn was saying that maybe Tankhun was faking his mental instability to avoid the responsibility of becoming the head of the major family (which I do think may be part of it but for good reason), Porsche defended him and by doing so exposed his own trauma. I love that he made himself vulnerable in order to defend Tankhun because I think he sees past a lot of Tankhun’s dramatics. Even as out there as he seems, Porsche understood him and was able to get him to try new things and leave the safe space that Tankhun tends to isolate himself in. I also love that, as much as Porsche kind of messes with him, most of what I see is him laughing WITH Tankhun rather than putting him in situations to laugh AT him. He messes with him to try and get him to smile, to enjoy life and find happiness.

I think it’s just another thing that shows how gentle and loving Porsche is underneath his cornball outer layer. Sometimes Porsche has moments where he kind of annoys me but what I like about him and his brother is that they’re loving, honest, gentle, and genuine people deep down and that’s exactly what endears people towards him. This is exactly why Kinn was so drawn to him even after their first interaction and why he fell in love with Porsche before he even allowed himself to admit he liked him. He was screwed from the start.

On the surface this show seemed kind of like a corny Mafia drama but it’s filled with complex characters and amazing acting. I love the main couple, as usual, but I rarely get invested in the side characters and it kind of left me speechless. It was a very pleasant surprise. I personally really like shows that make me question my morals and even though some of the situations could be easily identified as harmful, the way the characters expressed their experience after taking time to process things made it easier for me to forgive right along with them.

Ugh! This was long and probably a little all over the place but I’m still just too excited to get my thoughts coherent. I cannot wait for the next episodes to see where this ride takes us!

Ok let's dive in... (you are so right for binging the eps btw - I did the same when I started watching)

I love that you want to talk about Kuhn and Porsche! I haven't really done that yet and I honestly adore that dynamic. The funny thing is that when Tankuhn first appeared I was exactly like you... I basically figured I needed to be on acid to watch his scenes... and then somehow he just weasles his way into your heart and becomes this truly fabulous character?! (Though without even having done acid, I still feel certain it would only enhance 98% of his scenes 😂) I seriously love that you found kinship in him. And also... I never even connected the rewatching series thing to myself because that is so normal to me omg. I'm the exact same too. Serious anxiety (and yes introversion as well) means I do the same 🥺💞. The show actually does such a great job of incorporating in humour (and agreed, Kuhn definitely helps serve that role) without it feeling shoehorned in. It very much feels like a natural part of the landscape and it does beautifully balance out the rest.

And your analysis of Tankuhn's layers??? Holy shit I loved. I agree there is more there than we know just yet. It may play an important plot point or it may just come into things when we get more into the brothers' dynamics (I loved Kuhn’s scene with Kim and I truly can’t wait for a scene with all three brothers). But either way I can't wait to see it. And this: "I also love that, as much as Porsche kind of messes with him, most of what I see is him laughing WITH Tankhun rather than putting him in situations to laugh AT him. He messes with him to try and get him to smile, to enjoy life and find happiness." God, so true. One of my fave moments is this one:

I just loved so much how it was like the two of them vs the interlopers of Kinn and his friends. I loved the whole vibe and dynamic - like, ‘Oh so you wanna hang with us??? 😏’. And, I mean, they're both huge goofballs. So finding commonality in their partying was honestly brilliant.

I also loved the hospital scene between them in the side story too. Because Tankuhn is just being his silly, dramatic-ass self and messing with Porsche. But it just so happens that Porsche is obviously in no mood as he's terrified for Kinn and so he snaps. And I really love that moment of Pete basically being like 'Dude, this is your boss' 😂. Porsche really just never recognized the authority of Kuhn OR Kinn - they're just guys to him - and I love that a lot.

I completely agree re: Porsche's loving, kindness. He's so unguarded and open with the love and affection he gives (to those who warrant it that is... we've seen him withhold it *cough*Vegas*cough*). I love that about his character. When you're in that circle, you're really gifted with the full breadth of Porsche's affection and I think anybody faced with that is doomed to love his dumbass forever (rip Kinn). And Kinn absolutely recognized Porsche's kindness and gentler qualities despite the badass exterior and genuinely worried about the way this life could damage or change that (see: when Porsche shoots that guy the very first time and Kinn is stuck on staring at Porsche's shocked face in the aftermath and then worrying enough later that he actually goes to check on him). What I enjoy in the growth we've seen in Porsche is that even though he has changed and he's really coming into the role of mafia bodyguard, he also hasn't changed and he's still the same gentle, loving, affectionate goofball.

And yeah, I expected corny mafia drama and would have been fine with that. Most BL's lean heavily into the cheese so I was ok with that being the expectation, but this show really took me by surprise. I agree there is far more complexity than you'd initially think. Like the symbolism and art direction alone has left me pretty staggered. There is a lot to unpack and a show I can dig my teeth into like that is one of my favourite things. And as you say, there are some really great and fascinating side characters. And like you, that will really round out a show for me and take it to the next level.
