I got into smosh at the start of this year bc of the Reddit stories videos (I watched a couple smosh vids over the years before, but never consistently followed their releases). They became smth I looked forward to every week and lead me to check out more smosh videos in general! I also remember checking the tumblr tag for smosh back then and being a little disappointed, that the fandom was fairly inactive, barring a few exceptions <3

And then the reunion happened and it took me like 3 whole days or so to actually realizewhat went down 🙈. Bc I saw the thumbnails for the interview and the 2t1l vids and was just like “Aww, it’s so nice that they are friends again and doing a collab! 😊 (I’ll watch these later tho…)” Little did I know that finally watching them would turn my year around in a way that I could have never seen coming!

Suddenly the Smoshblr community exploded with activity and so so many lovely ppl joined and started sharing their thoughts and feelings about the reunion. And while I wasn’t an OG fan by any stretch, it really felt like there was magic in the air/ on this platform! 😹💕

I’ve been into fandom for more than half of my life by now. But I’ve never really gotten “personally” involved in any active communities. Just someone hovering on the sidelines and simply liking & reblogging stuff from time to time.

But with this community smth just started to click for me and made me to get “more out of my shell” or whatever idioms might apply here. And this allowed me to meet so many awesome people!! 💖 Special shoutout to @wiggog-y-hecox 💜, who was literally my first friend in this community! I still so fondly remember our talks about your cool smosh AU concepts! 🤗💙 And also to @swiftllama 🩵 for discussing so many taylor swift lyrics and ianthony with me (+occasionally good omens too 😹💕) And also @japhan2023! 💚 I know we’ve been chatting on and off since the beginning, but I am also so so happy that this month in particular allowed us to grow even closer!

2. Spommy nation 💜

So we’re moving into the middle/end of summer now on the timeline for this one. I was in the middle of writing my bachelor thesis and really going through it mentally bc of that. Getting deeper and deeper into the Smoshblr community also lead me to check out more smosh fanfics in general. Which is how I discovered the fic the right side of my neck (still smells like you) - jovenshires (imdeansgirl) - Smosh [Archive of Our Own] by our beloved @jovenshires 🩷.

Now I’ve told Katie <3 this story before so I’ll keep it brief here; but basically smth about this fic was incredibly comforting to my overworked brain. And I’ve reread it more times that I’ve ever read a fanfic in my life before that. And I truly think it has forever changed my brain chemistry, and also made me very attached to this ship (aside from the fact, that spommy is genuinely such an amazingly adorable ship with incredible amounts of potential, like!! I don’t wanna downplay that bc of the chemical reactions in my brain around that time 🙈) Some more stuff happened which eventually lead me to become friends with Katie, who is truly one of the ppl I treasure the most in the world at this point 💖

So, I had been meaning to do smth inspired by the “Shayne guesses” series for a while now (also the fact that the official smosh compilation of those vids dropped this week, near the end of this challenge, is so funny to me for some reason). So all of these stressful thoughts made me think “You know, a lot of other ppl are probably struggling with similar stuff rn, especially during these dark & cold times of the year. So why not try to do smth that might bring some joy or fun into other ppl’s lives?” And that’s how I literally typed up that initial post, two days before December started without having planned it for more than a literal day or so 🙈😹 (I did already have a long list of questions, bc I started doing the top 3 stuff in my friendgroup, but rearranging everything to fit the sorta 3-day cycle I wanted to do, still happened up until last week lmao; tho I always knew that this would be the last question <3)

BREAKING BAD (2008-2013) / BETTER CALL SAUL (2015-2022): i'm nOT TRYING TO CHEAT with the first entry but brba literally changed my life. (met one of my best friends EVER through that show for instance!!) and later on bcs somehow managed to flip that blueprint while being in the same universe of the original show. vince gilligan and peter gould created masterful, succulent narratives that don't simply hold up upon rewatch too - they get better and better the more details you glean between the frames.

THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE (2018): mike flanagan projects hit different for me, but none more so than hill house. it is an adaptation in every sense of the word (you'll get a different yet equally fulfilling experience reading the shirley jackson source material) but the differences lead us to a heartbreaking story that is unflinchingly real. it really showcases that "horror" isn't confined to certain genre conventions. rather, it thematically threads through every facet of life. accepting that and coming to terms with what scares us most can provide the healing we need.

MARVEL'S DAREDEVIL (2015-2018): i admit to being a sucker for the ~gritty superhero aesthetic. also found families. then the melodrama of losing/regaining them. go ahead and emotionally scar me with erstwhile religious guilt and it scratches a narrative itch i love to indulge in.

THE NEWSROOM (2012-2014): on the flip side, aaron sorkin bombast - all the heartrending swell that comes with it - is also wildly entertaining to me. this series in particular came out when i was toying with the idea of being a broadcast journalist myself (went to school for it and everything) and it was fascinating to hinge some of my hopes of what newsrooms could be. this show has one of my favorite pilots ever.

SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS (2018-2019): the only good thing facebook watch ever did and they went ahead and canceled it... this underrated rumination on what it means to move on after a loved one's death once again falls into the Too Real™ category. it's heavy so i will provide fair warning before recommending it to anyone. but if like me you garner comfort from seeing hard topics depicted in fictional form, you'll understand why i wanted, more than anything, for this show to continue til a satisfying close.

THE OA (2016-2019): this was too ahead of its time which pisses me off to no end because MORE PEOPLE NEEDED TO APPRECIATE BRIT AND ZAL'S ARTISTRY. their commitment to testing the boundaries of our beliefs and understanding about humanity as a whole is unrivaled. through sci-fi/fantasy tropes they encourage us to be there and care for each other despite unanswerable questions. there are things we simply cannot know about the power of human connection, and that's okay. love anyway.

LODGE 49 (2018-2019): these two years in particular seems to have provided me with the best, most impactful television and i am not complaining. everything i love surrounds death and how to deal with it. moreover, in the case of lodge 49, we're expressly told again and again that being where we are is enough. despite living in the shadow of sorrow and loss, we deserve tranquility and acceptance just as we are. aaand now i just convinced myself to do a rewatch.

We love and support your AvaMel side but I always laugh when I see something about them bc I remember that Janelle’s tweet 🤣🤣

Ok so for those who don't know, Janelle got tagged in an AvaMel ship fanvid, and replied to one of the quote retweets on that fanvid. I've censored op here for privacy:

Two things can be true:

1. Janelle is allowed to be weirded out by being tagged/seeing ship content. That's her face & those are her co-workers. She's a very private person who mostly keeps fans at arms-length and that's healthy. Ava isn't Janelle, but she has her face (and so does Lisa), so fanvids in particular when accompanied by an explicit caption I can imagine would be really weird to see. As fans we know the diff between real-person and fictional shipping but from her perspective you can see how that would be more nuanced and complicated. Unfortunately, the Twitter algorithm now puts stuff on your feed - regardless of if you follow them or not - based on how it has pigeonholed you, and as a person who sometimes tweets about Abbott/Ava because it's her job, the algo assumes shes a fan and dishes up Abbott fandom content to her whether she likes it or not, so she sees stuff she doesn't wanna see even if she isn't tagged; she wasn't tagged in that QRT, but she still saw it, so we can see that's what happened here. A big problem there is that seeing stuff that makes them uncomfortable can make actors change how they approach the character(s) in future which sucks for everyone. We can't control the algo but on the whole it's better to not try and expose actors to ship content as much as possible because there's scores of ships where the actors became hostile to shippers as a result of being repeatedly exposed to content they don't want to see, or even just getting fatigued by an unintended ship overshadowing the rest of their acting effort. Unfortunately social media giving a lot of access to celebrities is a very double edged sword and difficult to balance, especially when some actors (cough lisa cough) are so far over the line of what's considered normal fan interactions that it gives unrealistic expectations for celebrities that are more private. Actors aren't your best friends, they don't owe you interactions or unconditional support just because you're a fan, they're strangers and real people with their own thoughts and feelings. Everyone has their own limits and boundaries and are allowed to express that and they're entitled to not be comfortable with fan work that uses their image.

2. Actors/creators not supporting a ship doesn't mean we still shouldn't be allowed to play in the sandbox. Work Wives isn't gonna be canon either, but that's not going to stop me from enjoying it. I'm 32 and if I didn't ship stuff just because it didn't have creator support I'd have spent twenty years with nothing to ship at all. As queers we have to carve our own space out where we can see people like us and make a meal out of scraps because otherwise we wouldn't get to engage with media the same way cishet people take for granted. Unless a show is Queer™️, a vehicle for a character's queerness and a major topic of discussion, we rarely get canon queer characters, let alone characters where it's treated respectfully without one of the pair getting fridged or dying. Even The L Word, Queer™️ as it was, killed off one of a major pairing. We deserve to see ourselves across the whole spectrum of genres, not just in Queer™️ TV, but it simply isn't there, so we make it for ourselves in fanwork. In fanwork you can play with these characters however you want. You can give them a soft landing where they're safe (or the opposite, explore darker themes for a light-hearted show). You can give them the type of stories that would never have the space to breathe in the works they came from. You can take them out of their environment completely and put them somewhere else, you can change one thing that changes their whole dynamic, or you can just write absolute filth. Either way, fundamentally they're fictional characters, they do not exist and they don't have free will, only what you put into them as a viewer. We're not about to make Janelle make out with Lisa, but in fiction, Ava and Mel can, and as fictional characters they represent a dynamic we don't see a ton of with two older women, not teenagers/young adults which is the predominant type of representation we get for WLW in TV. So I'm gonna keep shipping AvaMel, I'm just, y'know. Not gonna put it where Janelle might see it. Easy.

If you've been folllowing my blog for more than 10 minutes you'll know my ships as I frequently interact with them on here! Robin has two ships that encompass all of his verses: ― Khada Jhin @curtain-cxll in his league verse and various skinlines ― Danny Johnson aka The Ghost Face @bells-of-black-sunday for his modern verse, his alternate legaue verse (Locum Tenes) and other private verses.

Haruko has 1 ship and that is with Tarhos Kovács or "The Knight" @bells-of-black-sunday for all of their verses.

――HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

Haru and Tarhos have a 12 year age gap, and Jhin and Robin have about 8-9 years so... I'm very loose about it, as long as everyone is an adult, consenting, and mature enough to be with one another I'm pretty alright with anything.

――HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY ARE CONSIDERED NSFW?

I'm actually quite shy with writing NSFW but my writings with Spuk have really helped me realize that I don't have to be guilty about those topics. Howevever I still am very quick to put "Read More" on the post if I think it might even lead to something spicier. Usually this occurs when kissing starts getting more intense and hands are placed on one another; it isn't so much that I consider it NSFW, but I like to tag what is going on just so people can decide for themselves if they'd like to read it!

――ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

I have absolutely no issue with saying that I'm very picky when it comes to shipping any of my characters, I can generally pretty quickly pick up when characters have chemistry together but it takes time for me to be invested and keep interest. Robin has a lot of complexities that tend to not work well in shipping situations and Haru is....an experience. So I tend to be very selective with shipping, there's only a few exceptions to this like how me and Spuk have a lil Frank/Haru thing going on despite Haru being shipped with Tarhos, its a one-off and fun and since most of my ships are with Spuk anyway well...I feel comfortable to explore that with him without worrying about "Ohhh but Tarhos!"

Haru gets along really well with Durkos, Sander, and Alejandro! While I don't view them as romantically involved with eachother (thats a convo I'd have to have simply bc I never considered it) I do know that they deeply care for eachother and have had some sexual encounters.

I generally like to confirm with my shipping partner that they feel the same way - just because I can see something doesn't mean they do, or vice verse and that's completely fine. While chemistry is, mostly, extremely obvious in a lot of cases, I still just prefer to confirm it.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?

To be completely honest I'm so horrible with shipping that I didn't even realize people really shipped things within the game; particularly since Riot isn't the best with making new champion interactions. I enjoy my mutuals ships, frankly, but I don't know if they would ever be something I would have thought of without them. Although a ship I DO love and absolutely delight in is GaloLio from Promare!

OOOH hell yeah, go for it! I remember being nervous when first creating my blog and thinking that no one would want to read it but just look where we are now! It was all quite confusing at first and it took some time to work out how I want to run my blog. I´d be more than happy to give some pointers if you want! You´re also more than free to send some more specific questions if you happen to have any☺️

When it comes to starting your own writing blog here are some miscalaneous tips:

Obviously you´ll need to first create an account and think of an url for your blog. If you want the account you´re sending in this anon ask from to be completely separated from your writing blog then I´d recommend making a completely new account instead of a sideblog as you will still like, reblog, comment, send asks and follow from your first account even if you´re logged into your sideblog at the moment.

Try to make an introductory post where you write about what kind of content will be found on your writing blog and establish if you want to accept requests in the future or simply want to write whatever comes to mind. There´s nothing wrong with choosing either options ^^ Make sure to pin that post by clicking on the three dots near the border of the post after posting it. You can only pin one post but it will then always be the first post once someone goes to your blog.

For example, I also have an introductory post with links to all of my masterlists, rules for requesting and such pinned on my blog. If you don´t know what to write you can take a look at what other people wrote and take some inspiration from there! If you do decide to take requests then I would also advice on making a post with your rules as to what you´re comfortable with writing and what not. What fandoms you´re writing for and such.

Once again feel free to take a look at my own rules page if you´re unsure where to start ^^

Also while we´re at it: Start a masterlist as soon as possible because it´s way more managable when you only have a few posts and don´t have to go through countless of posts and link all of them. Trust me, it´s way more comfortable that way. I wouldn´t have a masterlist if I had to start from scratch now dklgdln

As for your posts themselves, I can´t emphasize enough just how important is it to tag your works if you want them to be seen! If you look at my own posts you will see that I tag anything and everything, maybe even excessively so. Add the fandom, the characters, if it´s an x reader than also tag it as that. fandom x reader (twisted wonderland x reader or twst x reader for example), character x reader, a unit or group the character belongs to ( the dorm or unit for twst and enstars, for example diasomnia or knights). Don´t forget to tag anything that might be unsettling or that might need a warning ( yandere, stalking, blood)!

Also this is not necessarily a requirement but I always think it´s nice to also tag what pronouns are used for or what gender the reader is. I always tag my newer works as “gn reader” for example ( and also mention it before the actual writing starts) so that people who might feel uncomfortable with certain labels or pronouns can better curate their experiences.

This is all of course assuming that you want other people to find your drabbles!

If you want your posts to look “prettier” then I recommend using official art if the fandom you´re writing for has it. I´ve sadly seen a few people on here just steal someone´s fanart from somewhere and use it as a picture on their posts without any credit given whatsoever

Honestly I've been on tumblr for years with all sorts of different accounts and I never expected that when I posted some shitty Jimmy Darling headcanons back in April I'd even get this far, especially in this short of an amount of time, so fr thank you guys so much 😌

I really have no idea what to say except thanks sooo let's get onto the celebration?

Every celebration I say I'm going to write stuff, so this time I've decided to flip the switch and have you guys write stuff! So many of you guys are great writers and I want to be able to share your stuff too, so I've decided to run a fic exchange! And, of course, I'll be making a masterlist for all the fics once complete so here's how it works...

Everyone who wants to partake fills out a form, half of it is about what kind of fic they want to receive and then the other half is a few questions about what you do and don't feel comfortable writing just to make sure you dont get given a prompt you're uncomfortable with!

Also, side note, this celebration is ahs writing only! I just think including multiple fandoms would complicate this a little? However, if this does well, I definitely have ideas for a marvel fic exchange closer to Christmas! (Secret Santa, anyone? 😉)

To sign up you can simply fill out this form! The deadline for signing up is Friday the 15th October at ten pm bst

Once deadlines close I will start pairing people up, you'll find out who you're paired up with either the following Saturday or Sunday, if you don't get told before Monday please DM me

okay so i’m so glad you thought about ibiza waiting patiently for her dad & then he doesn’t show up bc that’s exactly what i had in mind!! & yeah him not being a totally shit dad really does make everything bittersweet. like yeah he does not want to be a father but he really does not want a little girl that he helped bring into the world to have to fend for herself. i also thought about his debt kind of impacting his life other than y’know… the loss of his life. like maybe it affected his job search. it’s a small town so everyone knows everyone & everyone knows about his debt. so this led to people not wanting to hire him partly bc they figured since he’s got such a massive debt that he might not be trustworthy or bc they didn’t want to be around when the people he owed came to collect. also i do see ibiza blaming herself for her dad “abandoning” her. especially with the organization shoving the idea that her parents didn’t want her & that this place was the best option for her down her throat. maybe she starts thinking “i should’ve helped him make some money. i should’ve done more. maybe he would’ve come back for me if i did more” even though she was just a kid… and maybe this thought process rears it’s ugly head when she gets into a relationship w someone. platonic or romantic. she’ll feel like she has to do so much not only to make up for the fact that it’s her but to get them to stay.

IDK but, regardless.... just something about the fact that she was too young to really even know her father (and his reasonings), combined with how her guilt is then used against her???

even if it's... no one's fault except the organization's.... if she's never gotten to experience having that normal family life (knowing she's loved)... and all the praise she's ever received has come from doing things for a company that doesn't even really care about her... fdjfasdfj OFC that makes would make future relationships hard!!!

uGH and that just makes it worse when you, like... bring up how she meets bakugo or deku again and consider how, for the longest time... there is no relationship between them simply because, how could there be??

honestly... relationships that utilize the ... "you're too good for me" dynamic .. make me BRUHFAJKDFKSLDMS.... because i'm brokenhearted thinking about like... rebel/neutral ibiza not being able to even comprehend that there are people who want good things for her for nothing in return, much less her company

I ask on my account to have all dupes/mirrors tagged on my dash so I don't have to see them. It is for anxiety reasons but would/does that, in your opinion, come under being elitist?

What I mean by an elitist is a person who believes they’re superior role player of a character and no body is good but them. If you don’t follow someone who role plays a similar character because of anxiety reasons, it’s not being an elitist or gate-keeping. I totally understand your trying to feel comfortable on your blog which it’s fine. We all want to be comfortable on this trash site. Another thing that I like to add is if a person goes out of their way to hate someone else simply because someone rps the character their rping as, it’s a crappy thing to do and childish. Not to mention go on their blog and claim their the best version and everyone else who rps that character is doing a horrible job. I have a friend who someone told them they couldn’t rp a certain character just because that person rp the same character and told them such nasty stuff. So much so that my friend took out that muse from their muse list because of that person. Trust, me I understand where you’re coming from and I’ve been through that as well. I understand that sadly, people tend to steal others ideas, editing style, headcanons and even writing style. It’s fine to have rules not wanting to follow duplicates, what I don’t want to see is someone saying “I only like my rp blog bc I have the best writing and it’s me. bc I’m the best.” or even saying/sending things like “you suck rping as that character you should go away”. Or even sending death threats. I said this before and I’ll say it again Rp is not about who Rp’s a certain character the best. It’s a hobby and not a job. A place to have fun not a race to see who’s the best. If I made anything unclear let me know or even correct me if I’m wrong. I’m more than welcome for others inputs.
