DAILY BRAINROT

My brain has started associating daily brainrot with getting ready to do homework, so now you're officially a part of my getting ready to do homework routine.

Going to try out color-coding the different topics, because I have a lot of ideas and my ADHD is acting up. (I promise I took my meds, it's just One of Those Days.)

I started working on a oneshot that's basically "what if I dumped a bunch of magical, spooky cryptid stuff in here" in response to a prompt from a writing group meeting. I don't really have any plot for it, but I do have a bit of worldbuilding stuff and a very long description of a house.

So it's another Hyrule-centric story featuring fae!Hyrule, except they're all kind of fae/cryptids. Supernatural, I suppose, is a more accurate description. I don't really have a good idea of what everyone will be, but there's going to be shape-shifters and ghosts and lots of creepy vibes because I'm shooting for the unsettling feeling that you get when you're afraid that the red eyes you see in the cornfield belong to something much more horrifying than a barn cat.

I think the term I'm looking for is gothic Midwest horror. Here's a link to the aesthetics wiki's entry on the topic in case you're curious.

Changing topics, I have what is probably too many ideas in my "LU Fanfiction Ideas" file in my notes app, so I'm thinking that maybe, once I've gotten some of my WIPs cleaned up and posted I could try doing some kind of ask game or tag game with them sort of like the WIP ask game that's still sort of circulating. I'd just make a list of the ideas and either write onshots/minifics for asks or have one of the tagged people pick what I work on. I'm not sure yet, mostly because I don't know if people would be interested and which one they'd prefer because I'm a bit too shy to just... toss it out into the fandom tag like that.

Time is still fighting me. It's taking longer than expected because every time I feel like I'm making progress something gets in the way. I really want to get his piece done because it establishes his plotline in the Emotional Support Loftwing series, and is supposed to be the accompaniment to a second piece that's probably from Warriors' point of view.

As a side note to that, I'm very excited to actually get around to that accompaniment because I get to write a whole bit about Sky's house on the Surface. (The town is called New Town and I love it.)

soooo i did get some ideas but they always turned out bad and now its in the bin :( i thought you were the perfect person to ask though so here are my thoughts!

if woon is an idol

he’d get upset if you wait for him because he comes home later

he’d definitely start whining HAHAH

after making him wash up he’d be fast and jump into bed (hes such a baby 😭)

his first instinct is to give you a back hug while you’re working on your homework (ahhh yes i definitely am not supposed to be doing research on earthquakes right now)

he’d always help wherever he can with his knowledge of classes

at the end of the day, he would make you a late night snack and afterwards hed trap you in his arms and hug you like a giant teddy bear

then you’ll fall asleep immediately

he’d wait for you in your classroom after school ends

then hed make you dinner (just meat)

As some of you know, I was supposed to graduate a year ago, after 3 years of uni. Bc things didn’t go as planned and I just could NOT handle writing so many papers and I was under immense stress, I decided to give up one of the courses and to change it for a course with an exam at its end instead of a paper. 

But bc both my physical AND mental health decided ‘nope’ at that, I ended up not being to finish that course either, and instead enrolled in yet another course. This time it was on a topic I really love and find fascinating, but guess what??? Guess whose depression worsened and both physical and mental health declined yet again?? This unlucky bitch’s right here. Since, as someone of you might know, I actually got lucked in the working department, I decided to preserve all the energy I had left into 1) not killing myself (hard task but I’ve been successful so far) 2) going to work.

So I ended up missing loads of classes, yet again, but still managed to preserve my position, and even got a raise. I was supposed to have my final tomorrow but obviously I am not gonna make it since I missed loads of classes, didn’t do any homework, and I didn’t manage to study AT ALL. So basically I know nothing. And I am not gonna take that exam tomorrow.

Those who have followed me for a while are probably asking yourselves, ‘Wait, what Leah? We know you suck at papers but you always rock your exams! Didn’t you make it into the chancellor's list in your first year and continued to excel throughout the years? Your average is like 94!’

And that’s the thing, yes, I get good grades, when I attend classes and at least skim through the exercises we’re assigned. But I didn’t do either one of these.

In addition to that one course, I have two more seminar papers left to write. One I’ve actually already conducted the research for, have the entire paper outlined, with chosen papers for lit review, stats ready, results, analysis, conclusions etc. outlined as well. So this is one paper I feel like I could write once I set my mind to it.

But I have NO idea what to do with my other paper (I have the outline for that one too, but no clue as to analysis directions).

And idk, I thought of maybe enrolling yet in another year (I can financially afford it with no prob, since I did manage to keep my job and I earn well), this time retaking the course I love but barely attended (during the 2nd semester) and taking another seminar instead of the one I have NO idea what to write in? (a year long course).

I can financially afford it, but idk whether I’ll manage it mentally. Then again I don’t want to NOT get a degree just bc of 6 missing credit points. And for fuck’s sake, even if I get just 60 (=the minimum passing grade) in each of these, my final average will still be above 92, aka graduating with honours.

But the thing is, idk what to tell ppl?

‘Yes I was an outstanding student but I couldn’t graduate bc I’m a sore loser so I’m doing one year more. Yes, in addition to the one year more I’ve already taken, fuck you very much’???

idk how to break that message to my HYPER critical family. 

And idk how that will work with my job schedule either. The first semester won’t be a problem but in the 2nd one, I’ll have to be at uni 3 mornings in a row, which will conflict with my working schedule.

I don’t know what to do. I don’t know whether I’ll manage it at all bc like I’ve said, my top priorities rn are 1) not killing myself 2) work. And given my HECTIC mental state lately, I don’t think I’ll manage to add anything on top of that.

2017

1. What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before? i’ll try to do this chronologically again: so at the beginning of january one of my best friends left to study abroad in rome which was sad and i missed her a lot. i saw rory scovel do stand up. i took an animation class which was fun for the first few weeks until i failed it lmao. actually my classes from jan to march did not go so well tbh but whatever i made it through. my sister came to visit me the weekend before st paddys day which was super fun and then we saw panic which was soooooooo fuckin rad i love them still wow! i went home for spring break and visited a local winery w my dad which was a lot of fun and then a week later uhhh me and @carrot-gallery became gfs!!! and my whole frickin life changed bc i love her so much wow!! but then a week after that i turned 22 and spent my birthday alone! which i tried to pretend didnt make me sad but by the end of the day i was very sad about it and thats when my sweet gf called me to sing happy birthday and i sobbed on my couch and ill never forget that!!! so okay then spring quarter classes started and i was a part of depaul’s visiting artist series which was super cool... i met a lot of new awesome people (both at depaul and the industry ppl that were our guests!) and made some great friends in that class! i was a house manager and camera op which was super fun. i went to a screening of my fave professor’s short film which was also rad. i saw a ghost story at the chicago critics film festival, which was amazing. i saw idiocracy in 35mm and then mike judge did a q&a! the very next day i was house manager for depaul’s student film festival at the music box! i saw chris gethard do a live recording of beautiful/anonymous and then also do some standup, that was awesome. i saw day wave live!!! amazing! i spent an entire dystopian day dealing with megabus. that was hell! i sat at an outdoor amphitheater and even tho i couldnt really see him i got to listen to seu jorge sing david bowie covers and life was magical for a few hours. my sisters came up to visit me and we saw aladdin the musical and had our minds blown, it was soooo fun! i went to the chicago pride parade for the very first time but i went by myself and at one point i was sitting on the curb just crying! not a high point but still memorable. i won a ticket to an advanced screening of the big sick where kumail & emily were there to do a q&a after the movie.... had a fuckin blast OBVIOUSLY and then saw the movie 9 other times in various theatres. i also made it into a commercial FOR the movie i just loved it that much lmao! i moved into a new (and my current) apartment! lorde released melodrama and fucking murdered me in my own home. otherwise i had a pretty uneventful but anxiety filled summer bc of financial aid stuff so that really sucked. i saw good time w taylor and the safdie brothers were there to do a q&a and they were such interesting guys i could listen to them talk for hours honestly. my mom and sisters came up to visit me and we took our mom to her very first cubs game which was sooo so much fun and they won that day too!! it was awesome and we had a great time :) watched the eclipse (or tried to anyway!!) fall quarter classes started and i honestly kicked ass at them, i got on the deans list (i almost typed honor roll lmao i mean its basically the same) i hung out with ari again which was cool!! we went to the aquarium! me and taylor saw beach fossils which was honestly the most buckwild concert ive ever been to i think, it was good shit. i got jobs at AMC (which i have since quit lmao) and starbucks and left my job at the paint place which was bittersweet! me and taylor saw mbmbam live!!! so fun!! and we watched trolls that night and goofed on it so hard!! i went home for thanksgiving and found out my big sister is gonna have a baby this year!! :D i saw mike birbiglia do stand up! which was soooo incredible of course (except i felt bad bc my mom was supposed to come w me but she couldnt go! so i brought taylor lol) UMMMMM MY DAM GIRLFRIEND CAME TO CHICAGO TO VISIT ME AND STAYED FOR A WHOLE DANG WEEK AND IT WAS THE BEST THING EVER SHE MAKES ME SO HAPPY WE HAD SO MUCH FUN AND I MISS HAVING HER RIGHT NEXT TO ME EVERY SINGLE GOSH DANG DAY <3 ;_____; and that was my year!!

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year? last year i said id like to read at least one book each month and watch at least 100 movies - i did neither! im keeping the movie resolution though bc cmon 100 movies should be EASY for a film major wtf am i doing!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? no but it will happen in 2018! 

4. Did anyone close to you die? not a person but we had to put down my sweet doggo, flash :(

6. What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017? More confidence that I actually deserve to be in college and that I can do this shit and I’m awesome <– that was my answer from last year and the year before but yeah. same. also money.

7. What dates from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? ummm march 25 when me and gf became gfs and also dec 17 when she came to visit :)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? putting myself out there by doing VAS/Premiere, getting on the deans list for the first time since freshman year and then also getting a new job

9. What was your biggest failure? this summer i didnt do shit besides wallow and cry and it sucked!

i'm going to high school this year ( still in middle skool 🤣💪👌😂👀💯) and holy shit was it that bad? I don't wanna ask for advice since i'm pretty sure you mentioned you hated high school, but..... i am not going to survive

ok if its any reassurance, the main reason i hated highschool was the people. and also i had gotten thru most of my life being labelled a “gifted child” and never having to study much at all, which came back to bite me in the ass in highschool, so that can be avoided.

so like biggest things off the top of my head:

dont take more than one AP class at a time unless you 100% know what youre getting into

however i recommend taking at least a couple AP classes if you can handle it. it looks good on college apps, and you get college credit (which you wont appreciate right away but trust me YOU WILL be glad about that later on). also it does give you some studying skills that will be really helpful in the long run

dont feel too pressured to join clubs, sports, etc unless you want to. yeah on some levels its good for you and will let you meet new people but it isnt vital as a lot of people say lol

i hate to sound like this but. really do your homework. study. dont skip class. you dont have to break your back over it but at least push yourself soph and junior years, bc thats when it matters most (for college apps.) 

talk to your teachers when you need help. that seems like a given but a lot of people jsut dont? most of them will be decent and willing to help you out

take advantage of study hall times, before school help, etc

sleep is important, which is a “do as i say not as i do” thing but really you will Suffer when you go to school on like 3 hours of sleep

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF WORK TIME IN CLASS. DONT JUST FUCK AROUND WHEN YOU GET FREE TIME. like fucking seriously it will save your life. whenever you get free time just use it to get homework done so you have less to do that night. you will thank yourself and you will get good at squeezing in homework during other classes. 

and for some reassurance, the change isnt as drastic as you might think. highschool is very different than middleschool, but its not like... Shocking. youll get used to it pretty quickly. 

i remember hearing some bullshit in middleschool about “the grade youre in is the number of hours youll need to study every night!!” which is. absolutely 100% untrue, (which i suppose is pretty obvious but yknow). your total amount of homework will probably average out to an hour or two, depending on the day. sometimes less.

sophomore and junior years are the hardest, freshman and senior years will be a breeze comparatively.
