I finished my rewatch of Stardust Crusaders. I've decided that I'm just going to dump my thoughts about it in this post. It will not be as organized or meticulous as my Battle Tendency analysis (link to that post here because Tumblr seems adamant about hiding that post... sigh), but it gives my general feelings on part 3 after my refresher. (word count: 1303)
I have not kept it a secret that Stardust Crusaders has generally been my least favorite part of Jojo, only surpassed by Battle Tendency. With Battle Tendency, though, my dislike is due to specific reprehensible elements of the story that ruin it for me despite having things I otherwise enjoy; Stardust Crusaders is not like that.
I think my biggest problem with part three is that I always get the feeling that it did not really know what it was doing. Its plot is a lot simpler than other parts, but it is very long, having about twice as many episodes as both parts one and two combined, which is much longer than it should've been if you're asking me.
The part tries to give a "road trip" feel with its length and how the crusaders travel to different parts of the world, but just as road trips often are, it gets really tedious to watch. Multiple stand battles feel like they exist purely to stall for time (or to cram as many media references of things that Araki likes as possible). The story feels packed with unnecessary filler fights that make it far too long for such a simple plot. At multiple points, I went to myself "Do I really want to rewatch this all the way through?" I did, though, of course. (The only arc I skipped was the Alessi fight. I watched that once and that was one too many times.)
Perhaps paradoxically, alongside being too long, the thing I think the part is really lacking is... room to breathe. The plot is essentially fought through the entirety of the way. Every single episode minus maybe the first few have some intense fight to the death being the main focus. This is to be expected- it's a shonen, after all- but I really think the part would've done better if it cut out some of the more unnecessary fights and replaced a few of them with character episodes. How are DIO and his followers tracking the Crusaders on their journey? What do the Crusaders act like when there's no enemy Stand user about to jump them and we just get to see them chill? How's Holy and Suzi Q doing? Near the very end, we get a scene where Suzi visits the bedridden Holy and hugs her, and it's one of my favorite scenes in the part. I just wish we got more of that.
Several times, the part attempts to change things up by messing with the status quo, but it just makes the story feel messy. Anne, a little girl character, shows up and tags along with the Crusaders very briefly only to get taken away after a few fights and never mentioned again, leaving you wondering what the point of her existence was supposed to be. Iggy is introduced halfway through to mostly be used for a few minutes of comic relief screentime and only becomes useful for about two fights at the end, dying in the second. Just like Anne, I fail to see the point of Iggy’s character, even though I didn’t mind either of them.
Avdol gets killed off very early on and brought back eleven episodes later... only to do nothing particularly important and just get killed off again. Kakyoin is given some random injury and is written out of the story for the entirety of the Egypt part of their journey (even though I'm pretty sure the Crusaders have gotten far worse injuries than just getting their eyes lightly slashed and managed to heal completely by the next episode) only for him to basically eat shit and die at the end anyway too.
It all feels less like a cohesive story and more like a bunch of "ooh, what if this happened? Then what if this happened? Then what if this happened?" combined with having a Stand fight every single episode (this getting especially bad later in, where every fight was a two-parter. Seriously, the Bastet fight did... not need to be a two-parter). Then you look back at the story as a whole, and it feels messy and bloated and leaves you with the question of what the point of all that was. Sure, there were points with fun moments in almost every episode, but was that... really worth sitting through all of its eighteen-hour runtime?
Part 3's high point is easily the personalities and group dynamics of the Crusaders. Though I'd argue they do not have a ton of depth and their personalities are fairly simple, especially compared to characters in future parts, they're easy to latch onto, bounce off each other really well and have so many genuinely fun moments that they become endearing. I admit that I went into the part cynically, but despite my complaints, I came out still enjoying my experience, mostly because of the Crusaders themselves. I even found myself liking Kakyoin even though I’ve always found him to be a somewhat dull character that doesn’t really live up to the number of fans he has (sorry). This is another reason why I feel like episodes without fights would've really helped the part, because the group dynamic is one of the strongest aspects of it.
One thing that I found surprising is the fact that DIO, before the very final fight, has very few appearances- fewer than I remembered. I get that he’s supposed to be shrouded in mystery, but I didn’t really like it. With how important he was in part one and the close relationship he had with Jonathan as his adopted brother despite them being practically destined enemies, him in part three being this distant powerful entity that Jotaro never meets and we don’t even see the face of until the end makes him honestly feel weaker than he was in Phantom Blood. I think most of part 3 DIO’s draw is the fact that we’re so familiar with him already; if you kept everything the same, but DIO was instead a character we’d never seen before, there’s a good chance people would find him underused and poorly written. His final fight was bombastic and ridiculous, and he's an absolute riot as a performance-based villain, but I really wished we saw more of him before all of that.
As for my favorite Stardust Crusaders character, I do have to say that it’s still Polnareff. Yeah, he’s terrible, but I always find him the funniest and most entertaining character- I can’t help but have him as my favorite. He’s kind of like how Joseph was in Battle Tendency without any of the strategizing skills and all of the arrogance (and he didn’t go through an arc where he hits on his own mom, nor did he befriend a Nazi). I know “Polnareff is the main character of Stardust Crusaders” is an overused meme, but it really did feel like he was more of a main character than Jotaro at times with how much attention he was given.
My favorite fight in the part is the Daniel J. D'Arby gambling arc. I found it to be surprisingly intense and well-crafted, making use of the "outsmarting your outsmarting" way Jojo writes its fights in such a perfect way. I really had fun watching it and D'Arby's complete mental breakdown at the end was a hilarious sendoff to such an initially menacing character. It ended up sticking out in my mind the most.
I don't think Stardust Crusaders is particularly well-written or has any intended, hidden complex themes to analyze. It's messy and has a lot to criticize, and the story it tries to tell is very simple. However... it is a lot of fun. I can very much see why people like it so much, and I enjoy it myself. There's definitely a reason that it's popular.

this was it — they stood at the precipice of the world's end. meteor swarmed overhead, sephiroth awaited them at the planets core, countless lives have been lost along the way... and yet, where one would expect trepidation and fear? cloud found peace. there was something so freeing about only having two possible outcomes. either they made it, or they didn't. but it was this that mattered, being able to stand face to face with the possible destruction of all and still having it in him to say no, to refuse to accept it, knowing that he would fight no matter what.
it took him too long to see it, to really get it... but cloud? he wanted to live. he wanted to protect those he cared so much for, to one day pay back all the love and sacrifices made for him that got him to where he was now.
he was cloud strife. he wasn't a great mercenary. he was never SOLDIER. he'd never been that great of a person, really, if you asked him. he'd always just been... himself.
and that was enough.
this time? he does not hesitate to hold her hand. long past was the time of his pride and shame holding him back - the eyes that look into tifa's? gratitude incarnate. maybe they never really knew each other before life threw them on these train tracks, strangers to both themselves and each other...
but cloud wouldn't change a thing now.

[Inquisitorial Report: Subject - Megatron of Kaon]
[Authorization Level: Alpha (Elite Guard Selective)]
[Listed Authorizations: Head Elite Guardsman Smokescreen, Chaplain Paradox]
[Assigned Inquisitor: Hush]
[15 Vorns after Cybertron's Restoration - Three Stellar-cycles into assignment]
═════════════════
I hate this place so much. Not only has Megatron continually remained docile without so much as a hint of illegal activity aside from the odd air traffic ticket, but his hab is the worst. I do not mean to say that it is unclean, no, it is far from it. But whatever organizational skills Megatron of Kaon and Head Archivist Orion Pax possessed have quite likely died in this place. Their methods of keeping their residence are confusing at best and convoluted at worst. I despise it with a passion. Brother Chaplain, you would have never stood for this mess.
I don't know how in Primus's name Orion can leave his scrap in so many places and not care. Megatron certainly doesn't give a flying frag about it. Orion will leave things around and he won't touch it, even if its riGhT uNdEr PEde. Fragging glitch. I watched Orion leave the holoscreen remote under the left couch cushion and not a spark fetched the thing for a whole deca-cycle. It ended up being Megatron who lifted the cushion and fetched the remote after Orion quite firmly refused to get it himself by simply avoiding doing so. Orion told Megatron where the remote was and then sat down while the former leader of the Decepticons dug under to cushion for a while until he found it.
Absolute ridiculousness. I hate this fragging hab. Orion left his work bag under the energon purifier and left it there throughout the entirety of his break. There is so much dust under that stupid device, I wouldn't be surprised if the next time he does that, he will grab the bag and pull up a dust ball while he is at it. Did you know there is enough dust on the top of the door frame to coat my digits with? Because there most certainly is and I hate it. I ended up cleaning all the dust on top of the doorframe myself after I had it in the corner of my vision for a whole deca-cycle tormenting me. Then I cleaned under the purifier and the other devices in the energon preparation station. I may have also ended up getting the broom Megatron keeps in storage to clean under the couch and holoscreen in order to fetch a spare accessory that was discarded under there almost a half stellar cycle ago. I left it on the dining room table.
While I had the broom I also may or may not have swept the outside deck. That thing was covered in enough dust in the corners to make any sensible guardsman cringe. Then I also got rid of the pile of shavings Orion and Megatron's neighbor keeps leaving out back. The mech is an engraver by trade, but his scraps keep getting onto Orion and Megatron's property and it is outrageous. Can't the engraver have some grace and dispose of his waste properly? I half the mind to call an inspector over to check his workspace standards if this is a continual issue. His cyber-feline is also a pain in the aft. The stupid mech-animal keeps howling like the world is on fire in the middle of Orion's recharge cycles and has already caused him to wake up screaming more than once.
It turned out the thing was just hungry since that aft of an engraver doesn't tend to the poor thing, so I went out and bought some energon rations for the cyber-feline. It seems to be of Kaoni origin based on its marking and structure, a pure breed too. Its quite obviously meant for assisting in battle when properly trained. But anyway, I fed it and now it comes out every recharge cycle to demand more fuel. This is cutting into my funds a bit, but the feline has stopped being noisy and waking up Orion, so I think its a good investment. Besides, the feline has already proven useful. It has been bringing me the things Orion keeps leaving out in the yard, like his crystal tending tools that he left in the shed and never retrieved.
I named the cyber-feline Carnage since it is so destructive with its voice. To ensure the investment is worth it, I have begun training Carnage to follow simple commands. Aside from collecting things for me, it has also taken to following me into my hiding spots despite my attempts to keep it out. Thankfully it has remained quiet and has found ways to escape the hab without making a sound. It is highly intelligent. If possible, I would like to keep it and recommend Inquisitors take similar felines into their care. Carnage I think will prove more useful with time.
Anyway, aside from the feline and the dust which I dealt with, Orion also brought home a box of random accessories and paints a few cycles ago and proceeded to organize exactly none of it. He had a grand old time painting Megatron with pretty glyphs and putting magnetic accessories on him, but he just shoved everything onto a shelf and left it there. I tried to ignore it, I really did, but there was a bottle barely on the shelf and it teetered every time someone walked past, so I ended up fixing things. It wasn't much, I simply moved everything into a more acceptable positions and arranged the paints by color profile and number as well as the accessories by design and artisan of origin. I may have also bought a special box to put it all in, but that is beside the point. I played it off fairly well in my opinion and made it look like a gift from a friend by leaving a small tag simply titled.
𝔄 𝔤𝔦𝔣𝔱 𝔱𝔬 𝔪𝔞𝔨𝔢 𝔲𝔭 𝔣𝔬𝔯 𝔶𝔬𝔲𝔯 𝔩𝔞𝔠𝔨 𝔬𝔣 𝔬𝔯𝔤𝔞𝔫𝔦𝔷𝔞𝔱𝔦𝔬𝔫𝔞𝔩 𝔰𝔨𝔦𝔩𝔩𝔰.
-ℌ𝔲𝔰𝔥
I tried to use glyphs to cover for my intervention. Thankfully Orion didn't seem to notice anything and Megatron merely looked at the note before tearing it off and walking away. I apologize for acting, but I couldn't stand it. And I apologize for also getting into Megatron's energon storage to organize there too.
His method of storing energon is primitive by any standard. He just stakes his crates of energon on top of one another haphazardly in some strange order I could never decipher. He has an easy time getting to everything because he is fragging huge, but he doesn't take into account anyone else. Thus I have spent the last several cycles dutifully arranging things in there. Its been difficult to not make a noise while moving around crates almost as bit as I am, but I have been careful. I moved the base energon cubes around toward the entrance of the storage room since that is generally what Megatron and Orion have in the morning. Then I put the additives right next to the crates in organized containers I made while waiting in my post. After that I shuffled around the various energon snacks and goodies that Orion has been storing up on and put them into stacks based on type.
The only time I have ever felt more satisfied was when I was named an Inquisitor. It was a weight off my spark to have that room organized last recharge cycle. Of course I have suffered for it a bit and I needed to take a quick defrag in order to keep going, but it was worth it in my opinion. That said, I haven't done too much and merely listened to Megatron continue to wax poetics and Orion whine about the council and their orders. In my personal opinion the council can go frag themselves, their will is not the will of the Lord Steward or our Prime, and thus they are irrelevant. Nonetheless, I do believe I have heard quite enough about the council from Megatron and Orion.
I hate this hab with a passion, but I have learned here. I thank Primus for giving me this chance to express my patience and I pray his Angel will continue to watch over me. I am unsure how much longer I can maintain my sanity if I have nothing to work with aside from small petty inconveniences.

[Report Received: Visibility Status - Seen]
[Note from Chaplain Paradox:
Hush, at this point you have quite likely been discovered. Normally this would give us reason to have you be called back, however I have had my suspicions that Megatron has known of your presence since you arrived. Thus you must continue your work as quietly as you can, but as it is, if you are spotted, it is not mission ending. Do not allow yourself to be seen if it is possible, but if you are, go quiet for a deca-cycle or so and then continue with your work.
Remember, you are not a housekeeper nor are you a nanny. Please try and stay on task, but if you can gather more information by working to gain the trust of Megatron, then so be it. All I ask is that you remember who you serve.
The Prime watches over us all. We are his chosen, his guardians as he walks among us in mortal frame. Do not forget your purpose Hush.]

Analysis of Kite's conflicting moralities, relationship with death, and the toll reincarnation may take on one's psyche
So, today I decided to compile all the thoughts I have had about Kite's interesting worldview since the first time I saw him into one post, mostly for my own sake, really. If you're familiar with the few posts I've made, you know it's gonna be a mess, but hopefully a comprehensible mess.
A heads up, this is going to be spoiler-heavy, and very much deal with subjects of death and dying as a whole. Also, some of these conclusions are drawn from my own experiences and close brushes with death, I'm not going to go into much detail but it might get personal and definitely dark. I'm not even sure if I can call this a meta-analysis, and I'm obviously no expert, so mayhaps take all of this with a grain of salt.
Been getting into drawing lately, and during the more simple and mindless part of the painstaking process of dotting every single star in this, I let my thoughts wander through the latest part of the fic I'm writing, and I got a better grasp on what exactly made Kite such an elusive character to me.
I'm not quite sure why I got so attached to Kite. Perhaps it was the air of tragedy surrounding him, how despite his sordid past he remained still open and gentle even if outlined by a healthy dose of cynicism.
But sometimes, I think it's the fact that he is so paradoxical. He's brave, yet fears death to such a degree that creates a whole Nen ability around it, is a pacifist yet will not hesitate to spill blood for his own sake or someone else's. Despite the many ultimatums and warnings of 'I will not protect you', he gave his arm and then his life to save Gon and Killua. He approaches each hunt and battle with a clear plan of action in mind, but his Hatsu takes the form of a roulette that gives him random weapons which are never what he wants, but what he seems to need for that exact situation, which he cannot dispel without using. When he draws a weapon, the decision is locked in and his or his opponent's fate is sealed. That's why each time he dubbs his weapon a bad roll. Every time he has to gamble, he sees himself as having run out of luck. When it comes to having to choose between himself and somebody else...well, there had never been a choice. In fact his aversion to using it may feed into its sheer power that we, unfortunately, saw too little of.
Let's go over his very first appearance when he saves Gon from the mother Foxbear.
It's not hard to see the strain searching for Ging has put on him; he's rash, prone to anger and punching a child for daring to get into trouble. In his mind, he's failing at his most important task, has not yet earned the right to call himself a hunter despite being in possession of his very own hunter license.
After killing the mother Foxbear and raging about having done so, he says this interesting line:
Tumblr media
So yes, he finds killing for any reason rather irksome as most would do, yet I think something deeper caused him to absolutely lose it in this scene:
He had not been aware of Gon's identity, and despite being an animal lover and a naturalist, he made a choice to save the human instead of allowing nature to run its course. In fact, he says: 'No beast that harms a human must be allowed to live.'
How does one weight one life against another? How is the worth of it determined? The value of life... an impossible choice he's faced with and a choice which he seems to regret to some degree.
The Foxbear cub.
Tumblr media
Here, he's speaking from experience, a tangible loss he has felt himself, and a hard and bitter life he does not want to impose on the cub.
His backstory is exclusive to the 2011 anime adaptation but there are hints alluding to it in the manga, for example, the fact that he does not seem to know his birthplace, or:
Tumblr media
The choice of words is chilling.
Reading between the lines, one could draw the conclusion that he is an orphan. Something supporting this hypothesis is how he visibly deflates after Gon tells him his parents have (presumably) died.
So we see he is willing to go against his own moral code of not killing as to not doom another living being to the life he led, a lonely, hopeless existence that could barely be called one. He saw it best to put down the cub rather than leave it to die a painful, slow death.
The reason Kite himself isn't as cynical and cold-hearted as one would be after witnessing cruelty in its rawest form is those small crumbs of human kindness which he may have found in Ging.
It was not only a chance at an honorable life being Ging's apprentice gave him, but it also 'saved' him from being broken and twisted into what he hated and worst of all, death.
If we take that one minute of backstory as canon to his character-which I find myself inclined to do- these quirks of his make much more sense. He lived on the run. He lived on the knife's edge between giving up or pushing forwards. He lived as so a wrong move could be the difference between survival and the end.
Between rock and a hard place creates a mentality of black and white, absolute good or extreme evil, this or that. Except in reality, it's much harder than that. Deciding who to save and who to strike down is a heavy burden to bear.
It's almost easy to see how struggling to keep surviving could lend itself to a crippling fear of death and subsequently developing a Nen ability which once more goes against his own moral code in order to give himself a second chance...yet something about it strikes me as unlikely when I look at it this way.
Living life knowing it could end at any moment has the opposite effect, at least for me it did. One comes to accept that it is fleeting and while not eager to let it go, when death eventually and inevitably does come, there is no fighting it.
Especially when there is no hope that tomorrow will be a better day than this one.
Frequent near-death experiences numb one's fear in a way, even if it drives them to take precautions that render it unlikely to happen again and results in c-PTSD, but still, it does. It sparks a certain nihilistic view of 'if it all can end so easily, then what's the point of it all?'
Unless there are things to live for, a sure promise of a better future, and Ging gave Kite that. When he faced the threat of losing his second chance at life:
Tumblr media
Really, what else could lead someone to develop the ability of 'the hell I'm going to die like this'?
I think a separate event, an even more brutal near-death experience that almost cost him his life as the hunter he so strived to be set him off to develop the secret roll of Crazy Slots, what I call Roll No.0, Ars moriendi. Unlike other weapons, it cannot come up in random and is directly summoned by him, or better said, summon by his overwhelming will to keep going and hopelessness of fighting a losing battle. I don't believe roll No.3 was the weapon that allowed him to reincarnate. I've named that one Wand of Fortune, a sort of armor instead of an offensive weapon since I find it hard to believe Kite, a Conjurer, would not focus on defences as well, and I will go into both mechanisms of these weapons hopefully in his backstory.
Tumblr media
Despite knowing this battle to be a pointless one and being acutely aware of his soon to be demise, he did not immediately draw Ars moriendi, no, he stayed back and fought for the sake of the boys, kept Neferpitou occupied until they could reach safety. We can see evidence of this in the aftermath of the battle that seemed to have gone on until dawn, a torn apart landscape only signaling a fraction of the devastation that was Kite's power unleashed. It still wasn't enough.
In the anime sub I watched, when Gon apologizes to Ging about Kite's death, Ging said a sentence that infuriated me, because it belittled the utter suffering of the NGL trio.
"He would not die in your place." (No screenshot, sorry)
And I remember practically shouting at the screen, screaming 'how could you possibly say that? Of course he did. He absolutely did die in their place. How could you not know your own apprentice? Why-'
It was only last night that it hit me why Ging would say that.
Once upon a time, maybe Kite would not have given his life for anybody under any circumstances, even if he had a way out of it all. He would still need to die to come back to life.
His Thanatophobia could be attributed to the (possibly untreated) PTSD of the near-death experience in his later life, being so certain of dying that finding himself alive afterwards drove him to never want to go through that again. He quieted his fear by creating a sort of a loophole, that even if he lost the battle he would remain. Ging remembered that, but as evidence shows, something changed. Maybe he healed a bit, perhaps growing up dulled his fear to a certain degree, but eventually when it came down to his life or another's, he didn't choose himself.
Now, I can hear you saying 'but he didn't die, so what are you going on about??' And so I reply: Yes, he is alive, but he did die. He experienced that painful, horrible moment of staring death in the eyes and thinking 'This is it, this is the end', went through the actual process of having his soul removed from his body. And that moment stretches into infinity, ten lifetimes condensed into the mere seconds before oblivion.
Dying isn't so hard if one stays dead.
It's not so easy to open one's eyes and find oneself alive again after that, no matter how much that is the heart's desire. It's difficult, nigh-impossible to reconcile with life and walk amongst the living when everything had been so final, when death had been accepted to its fullest.
So Kite awakens, the twin of Meruem and back from the dead, his mind and identity both intact and fractured. In that he is Kite is no mistaking, yet he is not the same gentle pacifist whose first reaction upon sensing a monster's aura was to shield two kids from it at the cost of his arm.
I don't think many of you are familiar with Zoroastrian ideology, but Togashi is known for loving his religious imagery, and it's not only Christianism he derives inspiration from (evidence of which can be seen all over Kite's character and resurrection).
In Zurvanism-a branch of Zoroastrianism- there is talk of the twin spirits: Ahura Mazda -epitome of all that is good- and Ahriman -epitome of all that is evil-, the parent god Zurvin decides that the firstborn may rule in order to bring "heaven, hell, and everything in between."
Upon becoming aware of this fact, Ahriman forcibly tears through the womb to emerge first. Sounding familiar yet?
Zurvan relents to this turn of events only on one condition: Ahriman is given kingship for 9000 years, and then Ahura Mazda may rule for eternity.
Meruem ruled for 40 days, his death leaving the throne vacant for ant Kite, wearing a dead girl's face and seeming to be brewing some nefarious plan. No more is there any sign of that unrelenting pacifism and the sanctity of life he held so high, losing his own may have only served to show him how meaningless the pain and suffering he went through had been, dying only to be reborn as a member of the species that killed him. It may be that he has no desire to rule over the remaining Chimera ants or create an army of his own-
Yet I dread to think what a broken mind possessing limitless power might do to the world.
And that's it. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! If you found it interesting, stay tuned, as I think a lot and I will make it your problem.

Frenemy (AllenKana fanfic)
Disclaimer: I do NOT own Paradox Live nor any of its characters.
Note: Set during the celebratory party of cozmez.
Ugh. Too loud.
Kanata grunted and stood up from the cushioned seat. The only thing that he wanted to do today was to sleep. He wanted to go home so bad but seeing Nayuta conversing with them made this party a bit worthwhile.
Noticing his brother's irritating look every time Compla Daimao hovers over him and Shiki, made Kanata snort. He's trying so hard.
As much as he wanted to deny it, these people have been a part of their journey. They won and if it weren't for these people, he wondered how will he hold on to his sanity.
With a yawn, he strode towards the veranda and was immediately greeted by the soft breeze. Kanata removed his cap and ruffled his hair. He leaned forward and rest his arms above the terrace while watching the train pass by from afar.
"Kanata?"
Kanata internally groaned when he heard that voice. He lazily replied, "What?"
He had gone outside to escape the noise but another disturbance ruined his peace.
The red-haired hip-hop junkie tentatively strode towards him. "I couldn't find you inside so I guessed you'd be here."
Kanata sighed. "Why do you even have to find me? What do you want?"
"Grumpy as always," Allen clicked his tongue and leaned on the terrace, mirroring Kanata's posture.
After a moment of silence, Allen spoke. "It's great that Buraikan accepted the final battle. Just thinking about it made me fired up! Have you got any plans already?"
Kanata just shrugged and yawned. "Yeah. Maybe. Haven't started yet. We're just waiting for the right momentum."
"Heh. But they're the kings, though. You two should be more prepared."
"The fuck... aren't we the kings too?" Kanata irritatingly and confidently said. "Don't underestimate us. We will beat their assess that they'll have no choice but to give us the crown."
"I'm not underestimating anyone. It's just that... you know, the legendaries will be up against the two of you. The reputation of Buraikan has been engraved on people's minds for years, they're going to protect it. They won't let the crown be worn by someone else." Allen thoughtfully said.
Kanata snickered. "Then we wouldn't let them wear the same crown coz it's fated to rest on our heads now. Buraikan's reputation? We already made our own."
Allen stared at him for a moment before releasing a chuckle. He shook his head and grinned. "As expected of you. You just don't waver, do you?"
Kanata didn't answer but he smirked. Of course. He and Nayuta - together they will reach the top. They don't waver to anything or anyone. Whatever or whoever they encounter, both of them will stand at the ground that they have worked to death.
This is just the beginning.
"With Nayuta beside me, everything will be a piece of cake." He proudly muttered.
Allen smiled thoughtfully. "Nayuta... he really came back, huh."
"Yeah."
Still smiling, Allen stretch his limbs and placed his hands inside his pockets. "To be honest, I almost lose all my hope for you. But when I was walking down that stairs, away from your house, something nags inside me. Something tells me that it wasn't the end."
Kanata clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Do you really need to bring that up? Aren't you happy?"
"Of course not! I was devastated!"
"Tch. Drama."
"Hey, I'm serious! I was thinking of ways how to snap you out of it. Maybe... a punch or something."
Kanata immediately rolled his sleeves and clenched his fists. "Well, if that's what you want, it's not too late."
"W-Wait, no! I mean, before! That time! I was desperate..." Allen momentarily paused, looking back on that day "...angry...frustrated...I want to do something even though I know I won't be a help."
Kanata stared at him for a second and looked away, fixing his sleeves back to their places. "You can't do anything about it."
"Y-Yeah," Allen scratch the back of his head and awkwardly laughed. "I realized that... no matter how I desperately want you to snap out of it, the pain you've felt that time was immeasurable. I'm sorry for barging in like that."
Another moment of silence.
"Well... I guess your words helped... a little bit."
"Eh...? EHH!?"
"I said, 'a little bit'!"
Allen chuckled in glee. "But still! Knowing that I somehow helped you--"
"Yeah, yeah, but after that day, I was planning to leave the town," Kanata interjected.
"W-What!?"
Kanata snorted at his reaction. "I met Shiki and we talked that day before I leave and that's also when Nayuta made his presence. Nayuta and Shiki are the ones who actually helped me not you."
"Is... that so?"
"Yeah," Kanata smirked at Allen's dejected expression.
The wind suddenly blew around them. There was an impending rain from afar as the surroundings darkens because of the heavy clouds.
Kanata wore his cap and his mouth formed into a small smile. "Still... thank you."
Suddenly, the sky roared. Lighting flashed against the clouds as it thundered, making the ground shake.
Allen's eyes widened to what he just heard. He was about to speak when the door leading to where they are suddenly opened.
"Oh, found him."
Kanata immediately looked back when heard the voice. "Nayuta? What's wrong?"
Nayuta shook his head. "Nothing. Suiseki-san's just looking for you."
Kanata sighed and lazily strode inside. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming..."
When Kanata was out of his sight, Nayuta looked at Allen.
Allen smiled at him. "Hey, what's up, Nayuta?"
Taking his time, Nayuta stared at the red-haired boy. Kanata told me that he's too annoying and that his presence alone can irritate the hell out of him. But... I don't see it that way, though?
Nayuta walked towards Allen and stopped right in front of him. "Hey..."
Allen blinked in surprise. "Hmm?"
Nayuta smiled. "Thank you... for being Kanata's friend."
"Eh...? F-Friend...?"
Nayuta smirked. He rested his hands inside his jacket's pocket before turning around to leave. "That's all I wanted to say. Bye."
Not able to contain his emotions, Allen smiled widely and cheekily laughed. "G-Good luck! I'm definitely rooting for cozmez to win the final battle!"
Nayuta just put his thumb up while walking away.

Why the Clone problem in Star Wars animated media is also a Mandalorian problem, and why we have to talk about it (PART 2)
Hi! I finally finished wrapping this up, so here’s part 2 of what has already become a mini article (you can find Part 1 here, if you like!)
And for this part, it won’t be as much as a critic as part 1 was, but instead I’d like to focus more on what I consider to be a wasted potential regarding the representation of the Clones in the Star Wars animated media, from the first season of The Clone Wars till now, and why I believe it to be an extension of the Mandalorian problem I discussed in part 1 —  the good old colonialism.
Sources used, as always, will be linked at the end of this post!
PART 2: THE CLONES
Tumblr media
Cody will never know peace
So I’d like to state that I won’t focus as much on the blatantly whitewashing aspect, for I believe it to be very clear by now. If you aren’t familiar with it, I highly recommend you search around tumblr and the internet, there are a lot of interesting articles and posts about it that explain things very didactically and in detail. The only thing you need to know to get this started is that even at the first seasons of Clone Wars (when the troopers still had this somewhat darker skin complexion and all) they were still a whitewashed version of Temuera Morrison (Jango’s actor). And from then, as we all know, they only got whiter and whiter till we get where we are now, in rage.
Tumblr media
Look at this very ambiguously non-white but still westernized men fiercely guarding their pin-up space poster
Tumblr media
Now look at this still westernized but slightly (sarcasm) whiter men who for some reason now have different tanning levels among them (See how Rex now has a lighter skin tone? WHEN THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN KKKKKKK) Anyway you got the idea. So without further ado...
2.1 THE FANTASY METAPHOR
As I mentioned before in Part 1, one thing that has to be very clear if you want to follow my train of thought is that it’s impossible to consume something without attributing cultural meanings to it, or without making cultural associations. This things will naturally happen and it often can improve our connection to certain narratives, especially fantastic ones. Even if a story takes place in a fantastic/sci fi universe, with all fictional species and people and worlds and cultures, they never come from nowhere, and almost always they have some or a lot of basing in real people and cultures. And when done properly, this can help making these stories resonate in a very beautifull, meaningfull way. I actually believe this intrisic cultural associations are the things that make these stories work at all. As the brilliant american speculative/science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin says in the introduction (added in 1976) of her novel The Left Hand of Darkness, and that I was not able to chopp much because it’s absolutely genious and i’ll be leaving the link to the full text right here,
“The purpose of a thought-experiment, as the term was used by Schrodinger and other physicists, is not to predict the future — indeed Schrodinger's most famous thought-experiment goes to show that the ‘future,’ on the quantum level, cannot be predicted — but to describe reality, the present world.
Science fiction is not predictive; it is descriptive.”
[...] “Fiction writers, at least in their braver moments, do desire the truth: to know it, speak it, serve it. But they go about it in a peculiar and devious way, which consists in inventing persons, places, and events which never did and never will exist or occur, and telling about these fictions in detail and at length and with a great deal of emotion, and then when they are done writing down this pack of lies, they say, There! That's the truth!
They may use all kinds of facts to support their tissue of lies. They may describe the Marshalsea Prison, which was a real place, or the battle of Borodino, which really was fought, or the process of cloning, which really takes place in laboratories, or the deterioration of a personality, which is described in real textbooks of psychology; and so on. This weight of verifiable place-event-phenomenon-behavior makes the reader forget that he is reading a pure invention, a history that never took place anywhere but in that unlocalisable region, the author's mind. In fact, while we read a novel, we are insane —bonkers. We believe in the existence of people who aren't there, we hear their voices, we watch the battle of Borodino with  them, we may even become Napoleon. Sanity returns (in most cases) when the book is closed.”
[...] “ In reading a novel, any novel, we have to know perfectly well that the whole thing is nonsense, and then, while reading, believe every word of it. Finally, when we're done with it, we may find — if it's a good novel — that we're a bit different from what we were before we read it, that we have been changed a little, as if by having met a new face, crossed a street we never crossed before. But it's very hard to say just what we learned, how we were changed.
The artist deals with what cannot be said in words.
The artist whose medium is fiction does this within words. The novelist says in words what cannot be said in words. Words can be used thus paradoxically because they have, along with a semiotic usage, a symbolic or metaphoric usage. [...]  All fiction is metaphor. Science fiction is metaphor. What sets it apart from older forms of fiction seems to be its use of new metaphors, drawn from certain great dominants of our contemporary life — science, all the sciences, and technology, and the relativistic and the historical outlook, among them. Space travel is one of these metaphors; so is an alternative society, an alternative biology; the future is another. The future, in fiction, is a metaphor.
A metaphor for what?” [1]
A metaphor for what indeed. I won’t be going into what Star Wars as a whole is a metaphor for, because I am certain that it varies from person to person, and everyone can and has the total right to take whatever they want from this story, and understand it as they see fit. That’s why it’s called the modern myth. And therefore, all I’ll be saying here is playinly my take not only on what I understand the Clones to be, but what I believe they could have meant.
2.2 SO, BOBA IS A CLONE
I don’t want to get too repetitive, but I wanted to adress it because even though I by no means intend to put Boba and the Clones in the same bag, there is one aspect about them that I find very similar and interesting, that is the persue of individuality. While the Clones have this very intrinsically connected to their narratives, in Boba’s case this appears more in his concept design. As I mentioned in Part 1, one of the things the CW staff had in mind while designing the mandalorians is that they wanted to make Boba seem unique and distinguishable from them, and honestly even in the original trilogy he stands out a lot. He is unique and memorable and that’s one of the things that draws us to him.
And as we all know, both Boba and Jango and the Clones are played by Temuera Morrison — and occasionally by the wonderful Bodie Taylor and Daniel Logan. And Temuera Morrison comes from the Maori people. And differently from the mandalorian case, where we were talking about a whole planet, in this situation we’re talking about portraying one single person, so there’s nowhere to go around his appearance and phenotypes, right? I mean, you are literally representing an actual individual, so there’s no way you could alter their looks, right?
Tumblr media
(hahahaha wrong)
And besides that, I think that is in situations like that (when we are talking about individuals) that the actor’s perspective could really have a place to shine (just the same as how Lea was mostly written by Carrie Fisher). In this very heart-warming interview for The New York Times (which you can read full signing up for their 5-free-articles-per-month policy), Temuera Morrison talks a little bit about how he incorporated his cultural background to Boba Fett in The Mandalorian:
“I come from the Maori nation of New Zealand, the Indigenous people — we’re the Down Under Polynesians — and I wanted to bring that kind of spirit and energy, which we call wairua. I’ve been trained in my cultural dance, which we call the haka. I’ve also been trained in some of our weapons, so that’s how I was able to manipulate some of the weapons in my fight scenes and work with the gaffi stick, which my character has.” [2]
The Gaffi stick (or Gaderffii), btw, is the weapon used by the Tusken Raiders on Tatooine, and according to oceanic art expert Bruno Claessens it’s design was inspired by wooden Fijian war clubs called totokia. [3]
And I think is very clear how this background can influence one’s performance and approach to a character, and majorly how much more alive this character will feel like. Beyond that, having an actor from your culture to play and add elements to a character will higly improve your sense of connection with them (besides all the impact of seeying yourself on screen, and seeying yourself portrayed with respect). It would only make sense if the cultural elements that the actor brought when giving life to a fictional individual would’ve been kept and even deepened while expanding this role. And if you’re familiar with Star Wars Legends you’ll probably rememeber that in Legends Jango would train and raise all Clone troopers in the Mandalorian culture, so that the Clones would sing traditional war chants before battles, be fluent in Mando’a (Mandalore’s language) and some would proudly take mandalorian names for themselves. So why didn’t Filoni Inc. take that into account when they went to delve into the clones in The Clone Wars?
2.3 THE WHITE MINORITY
First of all I’d like to state that all this is 100% me conjecturing, and by no means at all I’m saying that this is what really happened. But while I was re-watching CW before The Bad Batch premiere, something came to my mind regarding the whitewashing of the Clones, and I’d like to leave that on the table.
So, you know this kind of recent movies and series that depicted like, fairies in this fictional world where fairies were very opressed, but there would be a lot of fairies played by white actors? Just like Bright and Carnival Row. If you’ve watched some of these and have some racial conscience, you’ll probably know where I’m going here. And the issue with it is that often this medias will portray real situations of racism and opression and prejudice, but all applied to white people. Like in Carnival Row, when going to work as a maid in a rich human house, our girl Cara Delevingne had to fight not to have her braids (which held a lot of significance in her culture) cut by her intolerant human mistress, because the braids were not “appropriate”. Got it? hahahaha what a joy
Tumblr media
Look at her ethnic braids!!!
One of the reasons this happens might be to relieve a white audience of the burden of watching these stories and feeling what I like to call “white guilt”. Because, as we all know, white people were never very oppressed.  Historically speaking, white people have always been in privileged social positions, and in an exploitative relationship between two ethnic groups, white people very usually would be the exploiters  —  the opressors. So while watching situations (that every minority would know to be very real) of opression in fiction, if these situations were lived by a white actor, there would be no real-life associations, because we have no historical parameter to associate this situation with anything in real life — if you are white. Thus, there is less chance that, when consuming one of these narratives, whoever is watching will question the "truthfulness" of these situations (because it's not "real racism", see, "they're just fairies"). It's easier for a person to watch without having to step out of their comfort zone, or confront the reality of real people who actually go through things like that. There's even a chance that this might diminish empathy for these people.
Once again, not saying this is specifically the case of the Clones, majorly because one of the main feelings you have when watching CW is exactly empathy for the troopers (at least for me, honestly, the galaxy could explode, I just wanted those poor men to be happy for God’s sake). But I’ll talk more about it later.
The thing is, the whole thing with the Clones, if you think about it, it’s not pretty. If you step on little tiny bit outside the bubble of “fictional fantasy”, the concept is very outrageous. They are kept in conditions analogous to slavery, to say the least. To say the more, they were literally made in an on-demand lab to serve a purpose they are personally not a part of, for which they will neither receive any reward nor share any part of the gains. On the contrary, as we saw in The Bad Batch, as soon as the war was over and the clones were no longer useful as cannonballs, they were discarded. In the (wonderful) episode 6 of the third season of (the almost flawless) Rebels, “The Last Battle”, we're even personally introduced to the analogy that there really wasn't much difference in value between clones and droids, something that was pretty clear in Clone Wars but hadn't been said explicitly yet.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, technically the Separatists can be considered to be more human than the Republic. But that's just my opinion.
So, you had this whole army of pretty much slaves. I know this is a heavy term, but these were people who were originally stripped of any sense of humanity or individuality, made literally to go to war and die in it, doing so purely in exchange for food and lodging, under the false pretense that they belonged to a glorious purpose (yes, Loki me taught that term, that was the only thing I absorbed from this series). Doing all this under extremely precarious conditions from which they had no chance of getting out, actually, getting out was tantamount to the death penalty. They were slaves. In milder terms, an oppressed minority. And again, I don't know if that was the case, but I can understand why Filoni Inc would be apprehensive about representing phenotically indigenous people in this situation. Especially since we in theory should see Anakin and Obi-Wan as the good guys.
(and here I’d like to leave a little disclaimer that I believe the whole Anakin-was-a-slave-once plot was HUGELY misused (and honestly just badly done) both in the prequels and in the animeted series  — maybe for the best, since he was, you know, white and all that, and I don’t know how the writers would have handled it, but ANYWAY — I believe this could have been further explored, particularly regarding his relationship with the Clones, and how it could have influenced his revolt against the Jedi, and manipulated to add to his anger and all that. I mean, we already HAD the fact that Anakin shared a deeper conection with his troopers than usual)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Rex, you have common trauma experiences to share. But anyway, backing to my track
As I was saying, we are to see them as good guys, and maybe that could’ve been tricky if we saw them hooping up on slavery practices. Like, idk, a “nice” sugar plantation owner? (I don’t know the correct word for it in english, but in portuguese they were called senhores de engenho) Like this guy from 12 Years a Slave?
Tumblr media
You know, the slave owner who was “nice”. IDK, anyway
No one will ever watch Clone Wars and make this association (I believe not, at least), of course not. But if we were to see how CW deepened the clone arcs, and see them as phenotypically indigenous, subjected to certain situations that occur in CW (yes, like Umbara), maybe some kind of association would’ve been easier to make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, come onnnn I can’t be the only one seeing it
You see, maybe not the whole 12 Years a Slave association one, but I don’t think it’s hard to see there was something there. And maybe this could’ve been even more evident if they looked non-white. Because historically, both black peoples and indigenous peoples went through processes of slavery, from which we as a society are still impacted today. And to slave a people, the first thing you have to do is strip them from their humanity. So it might be easier to see this situation and apply it to real life. And maybe that could lead to a whole lot of other questions regarding the Clones, the Republic, the Jedi, and even how chill Obi-Wan was about all this. We might come out of it, as lady Ursula Le Guin stated in the fragment above, a bit different from what we were before we watch it.
Maybe even unconsciously, Filoni Inc thought we would be more confortable watching if they just looked white (and because of colonialism and all that, but I’m adding thoughts here).
And of course I don’t like the idea of, idk, looking at Obi-Wan and thinking about Benedict Cumberbatch in 12 Years a Slave or something like that. Of course that, if the Clones were to play the same role as they did in the prequels, to obediently serve the Jedi and quietly die for them, that would have been bad, and hurtfull, and pejorative if added to all that I said here. But the thing is that Clone Wars, consciously or not, already solved that. At least to my point of view, they already managed to approach this situation in an incredible competent way, that is giving them agency.
2.4 AGENCY AND INDIVIDUALITY
So, one of the things I love most in Clone Wars is how it really feels like it’s about the Clones. Like, we have the bigger scene of Palpatine taking over, Ahsoka’s growth arc, Anakin’s turn to The Dark Side, the dawn of the Jedi and rise of the Empire and all that, but it also has this idk, vibe, of there’s actually something going on that no one in scene is talking about? And this something is the Clones. We have these episodes spread throughout the seasons, even out of chronological order, which when watched together tell a parallel story to the war, to everything I mentioned. Which is a story about individuals. Clone Wars manages to, in a (at least to me) very touching way, make the Clones be the heros.
Tumblr media
Can you really look me in the eye and say that Five’s story didn’t CRASH you like a full-speed train???? He may not have the same amount of screen-time as the protagonists, but his story is just as important as theirs (and to me, it might be the most meaningful one). Because he is the first to break free from the opression cicle all the Clones were trapped into.
Tumblr media
His story can be divided into 6 phases.
1 - First, the construction of his individuality, in other words, the reclaiming of his humanity.
2 - Then the assimilation of understanding yourself as an individual of value, and then extending this to all his brothers, not as a unit, but as a set of individuals collectively having this same newly discovered value.
3 - This makes him realize that in the situation they find themselves in, they are not being recognized as such. This makes him question the reality of their situation.
4 - Freed from the illusion of his state, he seeks the truth about it.
5 - This then leads him to seek liberation not just for himself, but for all the Clones (it's basically Plato's Cave, and I'm not exaggerating here).
6 - And finally, precisely because he has assimilated his individuality and sought freedom for himself and his brothers, he is punished for it.
His story is all about agency. Agency, according to the Wikipedia page that is the first to appear if you type “agency” on Google, is that agency is “the abstract principle that autonomous beings, agents, are capable of acting by themselves” [4], and this abstract principle can be dissected in 7 segments:
Law - a person acting on behalf of another person
Religious -  "the privilege of choice... introduced by God"
Moral -  capacity for making moral judgments
Philosophical -  the capacity of an autonomous agent to act, relating to action theory in philosophy
Psychological -  the ability to recognize or attribute agency in humans and non-human animals
Sociological -  the ability of social actors to make independent choices, relating to action theory in sociology
Structural - ability of an individual to organize future situations and resource distribution
All of them apply here. And this is just the story of one Clone. We know there are many others throughout the series.
Agency is what can make the world of a difference when you are telling a story about an opressed minority. Because opressed minorities do exist, and opression exists, and if you are insecure about consuming a fictional media about opressed minorities, see if they have agency might be a good place to start. So that’s why I think that everything I said before in 2.3 falls short. Because the solution already existed, and was indeed done. Honestly, making the non-agency representation of the Clones (the one we see in the prequels) to be the one played by Temuera Morrison, and then giving them agency in the version where they appear to be white, just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
And honestly, if they were to make the Clones look like Temuera Morrison, and by that mean, take more inspiration in the Māori culture, maybe they wouldn’t even have to change much of their representation besides their facial features. As I said in part 1, I am not by any means an expert in polynesian cultures, but there was something that really got me while I was researching about it. And is the facial tattoos. More precisely, the tā moko.
2.5  TĀ MOKO
Once again I’ll be using the Te Ara: The Encyclopedia of New Zealand as source, and you can find the articles used linked at the end of this post.
Etymologically speaking,
“The term moko traditionally applied to male facial tattooing, while kauae referred to moko on the chins of women. There were other specific terms for tattooing on other parts of the body. Eventually ‘moko’ came to be used for Māori tattooing in general.” [5]
So moko is the correct name for the characteristic tattoos we often see when we look for Māori culture.
Tumblr media
These ones ^. Please also look this book up, it’s beautiful. It’s written by  Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, a New Zealand academic specialising in Māori cultural issues and a lesbian activist. She’s wonderful.
According to the Tourism NewZealand website,
“In Māori culture, it [moko] reflects the individual's whakapapa (ancestry) and personal history. In earlier times it was an important signifier of social rank, knowledge, skill and eligibility to marry.”
“Traditionally men received moko on their faces, buttocks and thighs. Māori face tattoos are the ultimate expression of Māori identity. Māori believe the head is the most sacred part of the body, so facial tattoos have special significance.”
[...] “The main lines in a Māori tattoo are called manawa, which is the Māori word for heart.” [6]
Therefore, in the Māori culture, there’s this incredibly deep meaning attributed to the (specific of their culture) tattooing of the face. The act of tattooing the body, any part of the body, is incredibly powerful in many cultures around the globe. The adornment of the body can have different meanings for these different cultures, but all of which I've come into contact with do mean a lot. It’s one of the oldest and most beautiful human expressions of individuality and identity.
And in the Star Wars universe, the Clones are the group that has the deeper connection to, and the best narrative regarding, tattoos. In fact, besides Hera’s father, Cham Syndulla, the Clones are the only individuals to have tattooed skin, at least that I can recall of. And they do share a deep connection to it.
For the Clones, the tattoos (added to hairstyles) are the most meaningful way in which they can express themselves. Is what makes them distinguishable from each other to other people. Tattoos are one of the things that represent them as individuals.
Tumblr media
And I’m not BY ANY MEANS sayin that the Clones facial tattoos = Moko. That’s not my point. But that’s one of the things I meant when I said earlier about the wasted potential of the representation of the Clones (in my point of view). Because maybe if it were their intention to base the culture of the clones after the polynesian culture, maybe if it were their intention to make the Clones actually look like Temuera Morrison, this could have meant a whole deal. More than it’d appear looking to it from outside this culture. Maybe if there were actual polynesian people in the team that designed the Clones and wrote them (or at least indigenous people, something), who knows what we could’ve had.
Even in Hunter’s design, I noticed that if you take for example this frame of Temuera from the movie River Queen (2005), where we can have a closer look at the design of his tā moko
Tumblr media
Speaking purely plastically (because I don’t want to get into the movie itself, just using it as example because then I can use Temuera himself as a comparison), see the lines around the contours of his mouth? Now look at Hunter’s.
Tumblr media
I find it interesting that they choose to design this lines coming from around his nose like that. But at this point I am stretching A LOT into plastic and semiotics, so this comparison is just a little thing that got my attention. I know that his tattoo is a skull and etc etc, I’m just poiting this out. And it even makes me a little frustrated, because they could have taken so many interesting paths in the Bad Batch designs. But instead they choose to pay homage to Rambo. And I mean, I like Rambo, I think he’s cool and all that.
Tumblr media
Look at him doing Filipino martial arts
But then, as we say in Brasil, they had the knife and the cheese in their hands (all they had to do was cut the cheese, but they didn’t). Istead, it seems like in order to make Hunter look like Rambo, they made him even whiter???
2.6 SO...
Look, I love The Clone Wars. I’m crazy about it. I love the Clones, I love their stories and plots. They are great characters and one of the greatest addings ever made in the Star Wars universe. They even have, in my opinion, the best soundtrack piece to feature in a Star Wars media since John Williams’ wonderful score. It just feels to me as if their narrative core is full of bagage, and meanings, and associations that were just wiped under the carpet when they suddenly became white. It just feels to me as if, once again, they were trying to erase the person behing the trooper mask, and the people they were to represent, and the history they should evoke.
I don’t know why they were whitewashed. Maybe it was just the old due racism and colonialism. Maybe it was meant for us to not question the Jedi, or our good guys, or the real morality of this fictional universe where we were immersed. But then, was it meant for what?
The Clones were a metaphor for what?
Tumblr media
(spoiler: the answer still contains colonialism)
Thank you so much for reading !!!! (and congratulations for getting this far, you are a true hero)

How should I reply to him…?
Tumblr media
★ E5 NIGHT: Nope★
As an adult well-versed in the horror genre, I was immune to horror movies for the most part.
Tumblr media
MC: Of course not. We can bet on it if you don’t believe me.
Charlie: Stakes?
It appears that I had aroused his competitive spirit, for he smiled at me with interest.
MC: How about we bet on… who gets scared out of their wits first?
Charlie: Are you certain? I’ve never once lost a bet.
It was a gamble where the outcome was uncertain. The loser would be the first to lose their composure from fear.
There’s no way I’d admit defeat all so easily in the face of a show-off like Charlie!
MC: Absolutely!
Tumblr media
Charlie: Interesting. I accept your challenge.
Charlie: You’re going to be the one losing your pride if you get so terrified afterwards that you can’t move.
Charlie: But, before we commence this bet… Aren’t you forgetting a little something?
MC: What do you mean?
Charlie: Where did you go this morning?
MC: The hospital.
Charlie: Think again. Before the hospital?
MC: Before…? Oh, right! I went out to buy snacks.
I jumped up, running to the door and rummaging through the bag of groceries I’d left there.
MC: What do you want to drink?
Charlie: Beer, like you.
I secured two cans of beer from the contents of the bag… Wait, no! What did he just say? He wants to drink BEER!?
I thought he didn’t drink? I mean, last time…
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Tumblr media
During my last day off, Charlie had called me in the middle of one of my drinking moods.
Charlie: You’re drinking your sorrows away at home?
MC: I’m not drowning my sorrows in alcohol. I just felt like I was in the mood to drink; there’s an emotional appeal to it.
MC: Don’t you do the same when you go to bars?
Charlie: ...I do go to the bar, but I don't drink.
MC: ...Oh?
The rumoured star of the night who bombed a ton of money in private clubs is actually a “good boy”?
Tumblr media
MC: How's that possible? You're lying, aren't you?
Charlie: Is it that odd to not drink?
MC: ...Not really.
Charlie: It's even odder to think that going to a bar equals drinking.
Charlie: Let’s just put it this way. The only reason why I go to bars is to play.
Charlie: And administering alcohol to the body is the greatest thing one can do to sully the living and perfect human brain.
Charlie: Especially this sort of low-quality alcohol made with fermented malt. 100g of the sweetened water called beer and its low molecular weight generates 180 joules of heat with your body.
Charlie: Drinking beer? Might as well swallow active bombs instead. At least, it’ll be much faster that way.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
So… Just what was going on here? It was one of the principles he lived by. Yet, he was doing a whole 180?
Tumblr media
MC: Aren’t you afraid that ingesting alcohol will be an insult to that sober brain of yours?
Charlie: Didn’t someone say that drinking appeals to the mood?
Charlie: I'm with my Fiancée right now. Do you think I should retain a high level of reason, or show a rare moment of dullness?
Tumblr media
MC: Do I have a choice?
Charlie: Of course not.
Charlie: Don’t worry. I won’t use the excuse of being inebriated to pull anything funny.
MC: ...Look who’s talking here?
Charlie: I can’t stand those sort of people.
Charlie took the can of beer from me before sitting back down.
Never mind; I'll gladly drop the topic. How can an adult not drink at all? Although, I bet his abstinence is probably so that it doesn't affect his job.
Click! Click!
The crisp sound of cans being opened sounded.
Never thought that he'd open it for me.
Tumblr media
MC: Thank you, Dr. Zha!
I naturally held an outstretched hand out, waiting for him to pass me the open can of beer.
However, Charlie didn't react.
Click, click, clack…
The continuous sounds of cans clacking came from him.
I curiously peered over, only to find Charlie staring awkwardly at the cans with his brows furrowed. They were still as intact as they came.
MC: Charlie, don't tell me that not only have you never drunk alcohol, but you also don't know how to open cans…?
Tumblr media
Charlie: You're questioning a doctor's practical ability?
MC: Then, you...
Pop!
Charlie had cracked the can open.
He freezes, frantically shoving the beer into my open hand. Then, he shoved his hands into his pockets, putting up a professional act.
Charlie: I have the habit of trimming my nails for surgeries, so it's not convenient for me to be opening cans.
For a moment, I didn't quite know what to say as I looked at our nails. They were nearly equally long.
He doesn’t drink. He doesn’t even know how to open a can. So why does he suddenly feel whimsical enough to start drinking today?
I cracked open his can of beer for him. He carefully wiped the foam that bubbled forth the mouth of the can with a tissue.
Tumblr media
Charlie: Just now...
He took a sip of beer and slightly furrowed his brow.
Charlie: It was a mere mistake of a perfect person.
Charlie: It will not happen again.
Saying so, the glint of pride returned to his eyes once more. And the can of beer was quietly pushed far, far away.
MC: Okay, let's get back to watching the movie.
The paused screen lit back into action, encasing the room in a chilling and terrifying atmosphere once more.
The plot gradually thickened and I got increasingly absorbed with the movie.
Everything around me started to fade as I zoned into the movie, Charlie included.
Charlie: *Coughs*
MC: ……
Charlie: (Y/n).
MC: ……
Tumblr media
Charlie: Are you really not scared?
MC: Stop moving.
All I could do was to use a free hand to keep Charlie in place as he fidgeted in his seat.
Charlie: ……
In the movie, the prisoner that was on death row managed to successfully escape into a cramped and narrow underground passageway. As muddy water splashed everywhere, the horrible cries of the jailer sounded from the other end of the door to the secret passage.
I'd given my entire self over to the movie at this point, watching the prisoner's every step with peeled eyes. I'd totally missed the faintest of all finger snaps in the world that'd sounded by the sofa.
Squeak…
The door to the entrance opened.
Tumblr media
MC: Is the prisoner about to get caught?
However, the movie never cut scenes to show the jailer coming through the door. Still, I was fairly certain that I'd heard the sound of the door opening. And if had also been very clear.
Just as I was about to turn around to ask Charlie about it, I witnessed a bone-chillingly horrible scene…
The door the prisoner had closed suddenly opens. Sinister winds were brewing outside.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Tumblr media
MC: ……
MC: It should be a sealed-off corridor outside. There shouldn’t be any wind…
The more I thought about it, the more terrified I got. All I could see was the epitome of horror in this movie unfolding before my very eyes!
I felt a chill run down my spine; one different from anything I'd ever felt before, its icy tendrils spreading across my body. An alarm sounds in my heart. I was hyper-aware, with all my nerves strung tautly. It was as if any minuscule change in the surroundings would be able to set my senses off.
BANG!
A loud sound rang out in the air as the secret passageway’s metal door was knocked down. The jailer’s savage smile was reflected upside down in the pool of water by the prisoner’s feet.
Tumblr media
MC: AH!
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
I frantically covered my eyes, subconsciously backing away into the thing I was leaning against.
Crap! I had such a big reaction! He definitely noticed...
Alas, his low voice entered my ears.
Charlie: Scared now?
His warm and powerful arm snaked around me from behind, wrapping itself around me above the blanket.
Tumblr media
My searching back hit his chest; and the moment it did, a small yearning for comfort started making itself known within my heart, growing ever more so… Just like a lost traveller who'd finally found the lone source of light deep inside the forest.
Charlie: Admitting defeat this quickly?
Charlie's warm breath brushes against the top of my head, making the shell of my ear burn. Just a little closer and my face would be able to access the crook of his neck.
MC: Am not.
I stubbornly refused to admit defeat, but my feeble voice, muffled by my hand, proved otherwise.
Charlie: If so, then why are you covering your eyes?
Charlie: You're the one who said we're going to be watching this together? Can't live up to your words now?
His chest rumbled slightly. There was undeniable mischievousness in his voice.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Tumblr media
Charlie: Last chance. I’ll count to three. Put your hand down, hm?
Charlie: Three.
MC: I’m not even closing my eyes! See!?
I vehemently glared at Charlie through the gaps of my fingers.
Charlie: Not counted. I don’t advocate such viewing methods.
Charlie: Two.
Tumblr media
MC: ...What can you even do to me?
Charlie: You don’t want to admit defeat, but neither do you want to put your hand down. Is there ever a bet so kind in this world?
His bony left hand reached up to cover the back of my hand as he attempted to push my hand back down.
I struggled against him with all my might, but he was way too strong. Hence, I had no choice but to admit defeat in this losing battle.
Tumblr media
MC: One. I lose!
Charlie lets up, dropping the strength he’d been putting behind his fingers and ruffling my hair.
Charlie: Why are your lips poised so high up? Mad?
Charlie: Losing to me is nothing to be ashamed about.
Charlie gathered up the blanket that pooled around my waist, inadvertently pulling me closer to him as he did.
I sulked and refused to reply to him. I can’t believe I still managed to get scared by a horror movie when I’m already a full-grown adult! Not only did I lose, but I also feel ridiculed by this!
Still, I didn't want to admit that Charlie's embrace certainly did provide me with a sense of comfort.
Tumblr media
Charlie: There, there. Don't be scared. I'm here.
He gently pats the back of my hand, speaking softly in a manner one would comfort a child.
His warm chest pressed against my back as his steady heartbeat resonated alongside mine, beating in tandem.
MC: ……
In hindsight, I realized that I’d always felt at ease and that I could forget about all my troubles whenever I was with Charlie. Even though he never fails to render me speechless and makes me want to roll my eyes at him for the most part.
Maybe it’s because he’s always so frank about things with absolutely no intent to hide anything? I don’t know...
Leaning into Charlie’s embrace, my fear and panic slowly ebbed away.
However, the door still made me feel a little uneasy, and I often found myself looking at it with frazzled nerves.
Suddenly, I noticed something strange about the little tailor alarm clock by the door.
Its hour hand was pointed at 12. The small mechanical tailor that told the time had jumped out of the clock, bobbing as it frantically rolled its measuring tape back up. Yet… I did not hear any chimes from the clock itself.
Tumblr media
MC: What's up with today?
MC: Please tell me it’s not an actual supernatural occurrence…
I was just about to ask Charlie about it when a far-fetched reasoning for this suddenly flashed through my mind.
And it ingrained itself in my brain upon appearance, growing ever stronger…
No sound, with only the motions… Why didn’t I think of this earlier?
MC: Charlie?
Charlie: Hm?
MC: Is there anything that can cancel out sound?
Tumblr media
Charlie: Why do you ask?
He withdrew his hand and stuffed it back into his pocket. There was a sliver of wariness in his eyes.
MC: It just came to mind. Just answer me.
Charlie: Vacuum. Sound cannot travel without mediums, and there are no atoms or molecules in a vacuum.
MC: And isn’t that your talent?
Tumblr media
Charlie: Y-Yes?
I was getting closer and closer to confirming my suspicions.
The door that had suddenly opened without a sound, and the soundless alarm clock. If there was a scientific reason to explain all of those, then it’d be…
Charlie had just created a vacuum inside the door. That way, the air difference in air pressure on the inside and the outside would be able to push the door open.
Pity; but the soundless alarm clock had given me enough hints to piece everything together.
Tumblr media
MC: You purposely scared me so I'd admit defeat myself? Well done, Charlie.
The movie was currently showing the part where the jailer collided with the metal door.
Thud, thud, thud…
This sound was vaguely familiar. A sudden idea hits me.
I tugged on the corner of his clothes, purposely lowering my voice.
MC: Charlie, do you hear something?
MC: Thud, thud, thud. Like someone knocking on the door.
Tumblr media
Charlie: Are you having auditory hallucinations now? That's coming from the movie.
He held my head with both hands, turning it left and right.
Charlie: You haven't gotten any water stuck in your ears either.
I directly put my finger to his lips and looked around warily.
MC: Not that. Listen carefully.
A distant but very real thud sounded above us.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Charlie was so terrified that he'd started shaking as he looked up at the ceiling incredulously.
I took the chance to grab onto his arm, leaning sideways to get closer to him and whispered into his ear.
MC: Believe me now?
MC: Actually, I saw something by the door just now and…
Charlie: What! What’s by the door!?
He quickly shot up from the sofa, encasing me in the shadow cast by his tall and wide back.
The movie had been paused, stopping on the dark scene of the secret passageway. The door of my entryway was partially shrouded by the eerie lighting coming from the projector. The creepy atmosphere intensified.
Charlie silently stared into the darkness for a good ten seconds before letting out the breath he’d been holding.
Charlie: What can there be?
Charlie: If ghosts truly do exist in this world, then why would the world ever allow someone as perfect as me, someone, who goes against even the laws of nature, to exist?
The corners of his mouth were raised in their usual arc. Looks like he has already regained his spirits.
The only thing that betrayed the nervousness he felt deep down were his hands that had yet to crease trembling.
He placed both his hands into his pockets, putting on a calm facade as he surveyed the room…
He’s putting his hands into his pockets again? Does he like to do that whenever he feels nervous?
Charlie: Perhaps something fell upstairs. It’s just a coincidence…
He'd only just finished speaking when another thud sounded. This time, it was much more solid, the sound seemingly reverberating through the very air of my apartment.
All colour drained from Charlie's face. I hurriedly stood up.
Tumblr media
MC: Do you hear that!?
Charlie: Yeah.
I hid behind Charlie, slowly putting my hand into his shirt pocket. I could feel the slight tremor of his shoulders through the thin fabric of his dress shirt.
Charlie: ...I certainly do hear something.
His adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed down more of his fear. He unwittingly attempted to put his hand back into his pocket… only for it to brush against my hand that had touched the cold beer earlier.
Tumblr media
Charlie: AHHH! HELP ME!!
Charlie: SOMETHING’S HERE!
Charlie could no longer maintain his noble attitude. He jolted, frantically throwing his composed facade out of the window as he flung my hand away.
MC: It's me!
Charlie: You…
Charlie gripped onto my shoulder with one hand while the other went to his chest. His frantic breathing slowly eased back to a normal rhythm.
Maybe it’s about time I tell him about “that”?
MC: Actually…
MC: There was once a girl who'd been imprisoned here in this room. She died from starvation here. That's why you'll often hear the sound of the door being knocked in the middle of the night.
MC: I never thought that she'd make an appearance in the morning this time…
Charlie: You're joking, right!?
I shook my head with a pained smile.
I placed both hands on his shoulders as I reached higher. I cupped my hand and got close to his ear and purposefully lowered my voice.
MC: If everything was fine and well at my place, then why would I have to call you here to watch a movie with me?
MC: Don't tell me you're thinking of running…?
Thud!
A resounding thud suddenly rang out, shaking even the walls as it reverberated.
Charlie: AHHHH!!
Charlie lost all his composure, screaming shrilly as he dove for the loveseat. I lost my balance as my knees hit the loveseat.
Amidst the chaos, Charlie had wrapped his arms around my shoulders as we both tumbled into one of the corners of the loveseat.
Charlie's skin was flushed from all the adrenaline, his breaths coming out in short and ragged pants. He was akin to a laboratory mouse who had its amygdala stimulated, lying against my shoulder paralyzed in fright.
His shrill scream earlier still faintly resonated in the air, making my eardrums ring in protest. I could help but recall how confident of himself he looked back when he made the bet...

Charlie: You’re going to be the one losing your pride if you get so terrified afterwards that you can’t move.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
MC: Pft- Hahaha! This is way too good!
I couldn't keep up the act anymore. I leaned my forehead against his as I snickered like mad.
Tumblr media
MC: Okay, okay. I'm just pulling your leg!
Charlie: ...What?
Charlie: You're joking? But, you— I— Just now…?
Charlie raised his head, looking absolutely appalled. Having just had a tumble, a tuft of hair stuck out from the top of his head.
I grabbed the tuft of hair that stood arrogantly upwards and pushed it back down with a vengeance, smoothing it out in my revenge.
Tumblr media
MC: Yeah! Who told you to scare me with your vacuum earlier!
I could acutely feel how his face immediately heated up against my shoulder. Is it because he just found out that I was tricking him? Or is it because of something else?
MC: So, can you get off me now?
Tumblr media
Charlie: I refuse.
He simply buried his head into the crook of my neck shamelessly, avoiding my gaze.
Charlie: You'll have to first explain to me just what is going on here.
Charlie’s arms were snugly wound around my body, seemingly threatening not to let go until he’d attained what he wanted.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at that. Is this man truly the same Dr. Zha that was listed on the leaflet detailing the famed doctors of the Hospital...?
MC: The hungry ghost was just a story I made up to scare you
Charlie: Uh-huh.
Charlie: But, just now…
MC: That was just the heating pipes.
MC: The grandpa upstairs turns the heating on at noon every day.
MC: It's going to be summer soon, yet he still keeps it up. Always at 12 sharp. The man's way more on point than the afternoon news broadcast.
Charlie raised his head, his sweat-soaked hair brushing across my cheek. It was a little ticklish.
Charlie: That's it?
MC: Yup!
Tumblr media
Charlie: Ahem.
He sat back up, lightly clearing his throat before composing himself. Gone was the embarrassment from having lost his composure.
MC: Phew… You finally let up, huh.
He reflexively smooths out his collar. Soon, he returned to his usual self that you were all so familiar with.
Charlie snaps to attention with his hands behind his back, purposely looking around the room in an off-handed manner.
Charlie: Actually, I could already tell that something was wrong with the structure of this housing apartment the moment I stepped into it.
Charlie: Alas, it was just as I expected. The pipings are so terribly loud.
Charlie turned to look at me, slightly lowering his head and peering down at me in approval.
Charlie: Also, your acting is really good.
Tumblr media
MC: ?
Charlie: Actually… I wasn't scared at all.
MC: ??
Tumblr media
MC: If so, then may I ask what’s the whole purpose behind the fear that you so kindly expressed earlier?
Charlie: I was merely playing along with you. It’s the greatest form of acknowledgement towards your acting skills.
Just who is playing along with whom, in this case? Is this even up for discussion?
Still, I think his red ears speak louder than words.
Charlie returns to his seat on the loveseat. His familiar warmth envelops me once more.
Tumblr media
Charlie: You still lost today.
MC: How did this come back to that?
Charlie: You're the one who got scared out of your wits first. You still have a penalty to serve, so...
Tumblr media
Charlie: Comfort me.
He turned his head to the side as he hugged me. His cheeks were a rarely seen shade of red. He was flushed from the neck to the tip of his ears.
Looking at how embarrassed he was, I couldn’t help but find it a little adorable.
The heat in his embrace didn’t make me feel uncomfortable. In fact, it made a reassuring sense of familiarity slowly spread through my heart, like a warm summertime breeze blowing from the side.
I boldly nestled deeper into his arms, basking in the soft dream-like moment.
MC: How rare for you to be so quiet.
MC: Man, if only your first instinct wasn't to pick fights...
Charlie: Please, Miss. It's not like you don't enjoy it either. It'll be over soon enough.
⊹ ˚✩ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ ✥ ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━━ ✩˚ ⊹
Tumblr media
The movie ends before we know it after the dazed silence that lapsed.
The projector stopped screening once the movie came to a close. The screen blanked out along with my guilt, panic, and fear.
And I’d completely missed the ending of the movie.
Tumblr media
MC: Charlie? Do you remember how the prisoner who was sentenced to death got away?
I thought that Charlie would respond immediately in that prideful tone of his, giving me a clear and concise answer. Hell, I was even prepared to withstand another round of his narcissism if that ever came to pass.
Yet, he sounded a little unsteady and unsure, almost as if he too, was thinking of an appropriate answer.
Tumblr media
Charlie: ...How did the prisoner getaway? Simple. He defeated the jailer who imprisoned him. All horror movies end the same way.
MC: He defeated… the jailer?
MC: The jailer here is a figment of his imagination; it doesn’t exist.
MC: The prisoner’s trapped in his own dream.
To prove what I’d said, I quickly pulled up the homepage of the movie where the summary and all the reviews were written. I pointed it out to him.
MC: Look, it’s even written in the movie’s summary…
I raised my head to clarify with him, but Charlie chose to completely ignore me, turning his attention to the plush pillow on the sofa. His eyes were very shifty.
Suspicious. VERY suspicious…
Tumblr media
MC: Charlie, you… you didn’t take this movie seriously at all, did you?
Charlie closed his eyes in a slight grimace, his eyebrows knitting…
That reaction…. I KNEW IT.
However, he quickly bounces back from that moment of frustration. His expression suddenly turned serious and exaggeratedly grim.
Tumblr media
Charlie: (Y/n), life is but a fleeting one.
The hell is this man talking about!?
I didn’t quite know why, but the serious tone he was taking with me sounded vaguely threatening. I could only nod in accordance.
Charlie: I see that you agree as well.
Charlie: If one wishes to have a glorious life as glamorous as the sun in this fleeting period, then some trivialities will have to be forgone.
Charlie: Alas, that movie earlier was an unfortunate one to have been forgone by this perfect life of mine.
MC: ……
Tumblr media
MC: I see. I never knew that there was such a poetic way of saying “I don’t remember”.
Charlie: Who says I don't remember?
Charlie: I remember as clear as the day how my Fiancée got so terrified that she burrowed right into my arms.
I helplessly sighed. Looks like it'll be a long time and a good long way before I'll ever manage to understand how that brain of his works.
MC: Then, does the matter of rating and evaluating this projector still exist in your precious time of existence, Dr. Zha?
Tumblr media
Charlie: The projector? Average.
Charlie: It's hard for me to be evaluating a projector below $200,000.
Charlie: But, I can consider using it as a console for couples.
He raised an eyebrow, smiling.
Tumblr media
MC: And just where are your thoughts running off to?
Charlie: I'm just giving my honest, unbiased opinion.
Charlie: I hope you can convey this precious review of mine to the brand makers. Consider it my good deed for the day.
MC: Alright, Mr. Charitable.
MC: Now, are you quite done with your charitable acts? I'm going to pack the projector up and send it back.
Charlie: Why?
MC: Because… I feel like I don't really need a home theatre.
Charlie stilled my hand with his own, moving to block the projector off from me.
Charlie: Wait. I’ll take it if you can’t find a use for it.
Charlie: Send it to my house next weekend.
MC: You sure about that?
Charlie: Of course, I naturally have the right to accept any common personal property that my Fiancée chooses to give up.
Tumblr media
Charlie: Come to my house next week, and don't stand me up.
With that being said, he confidently walked out of the apartment.
The golden sports car parked by the road gave a tremendous roar as it sped up. It soon faded away, replaced by the ever-present bustle of the people on the streets
Watching the silhouette of the car gradually disappear, the events of what had gone on within my apartment resurfaced to the forefront of my mind… Charlie was far more bizarre than any horror film I'd ever watched.
However, it’s as if his appearance was slowly lowering my impenetrable guard over my small piece of land.
Now, as for what will appear in the future… Will it be volcanos? Or channels? Who knows; we’ll just have to wait and see.

Eren Meta From 139
Many people believe chapter 139 butchered Eren's character because of this scene.
Tumblr media
Because out of nowhere, Eren's motivation is to reach Mikasa's choice to satisfy Ymir's wish; thus, everything he said from the beginning about his motivation is all lies or meaningless.
No. And I'm no writing this to justify or condemn him. This post is more for myself, because I'm trying to understand his character.
Now let's see at his words. "All of it, was to arrive at that result. That's why I moved forward." What does he mean by it? Which actions?
Tumblr media
This.
All the events, starting from ch 123-139, are going according to Ymir's wish.
Right after Eren told her to decide for herself.
Tumblr media
She wants to end the world, at least 80% of it. She wants to push Eren's friends to stop him, even if they have to betray their nation. The Battle of Heaven and Earth, all of the clusterfucks in chapter 135-138 happens because it's Ymir's will to push Mikasa to make a choice. She chooses to end the titan curse after she gets to see what she wants.
Ymir did all of this, she watched all the events that unfold because Eren released her.
Then, what about Eren's will?
This is why I'm okay with the idea of Eren following Ymir; Eren doesn't have a reason to reject Ymir's wish because he got what he wants. He got the future he saw on the medal ceremony, the eradication of titans. He got the "freedom" to flatten the earth, and if his gamble paid off, he'd get his friends' safety; because they will become the world's savior after they stop him. It's a win-win situation, thus, putting him in a position where he becomes Ymir's ally and stands by her side.
Tumblr media
The reason why Ymir chose Mikasa is not clear, but Eren had a hunch and it's something he could relate to; another reason for him to not object to Ymir's wish. It has something to do with that day when Mikasa practically confessed her love for him, the day where he could use the Founder's power for the first time. I leave this scene up to your interpretation.
What about Eren's will from before 123? What did he try so hard to achieve?
Tumblr media
This scenery. Aside from the eradication of titans.
Here's the thing. Doesn't matter if fate favors you or not, you have to work hard to get what you want. To work hard, you need to know the reason. I take Isayama's artistic choice that the future memories he saw are fragments without context; he doesn't know why it happens the way it would. So, even if he saw the scenery, even if he saw the eradication of titans, why he has to go to hell first? Why he has to go through all of the suffering? Why he has to keep moving forward? He doesn't have to; but the world, destiny or whatever keeps feeding him reasons to move forward, until he reached a conclusion that the titan world is fucked up system and has been going for far too long. For Eren, this needs to end, and he wants to reach that scenery no matter what.
This is the man who saw how unforgiving the outside world is. The fact that a little girl got eaten by dogs just because she's an Eldia is proof that a subject of Ymir can never gain freedom, can never gain the privilege of human rights the way a normal human does. (I suggest you to read Gross' monologue from ch 87). The man saw how the world keeps pushing Paradis to be the source of evil without listening to what the other parties have to say. The man is manipulated to euthanize his own people as if Eldia doesn't deserve to be born. He saw the fucked up history of titans from 2000 years ago. He was so disappointed the world is not like in Armin's book, it's not like his ideal world. So he wants to wipe it away. He wants to bury the history and the civilization that created it, deep to the ground. He wants to destroy every last one of those animals, that's on this earth; titans or humans alike. He wants to leave the surface a blank plain. This is his ideal world, his freedom.
Eren said it himself. Even if he didn't know that his friends would stop him; even if it's not Ymir's will, he'd still trample the earth. To me, the reason why Eren commit genocide, the reason he said to Armin is no different than the reason he said to Zeke.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's just the way he is ever since he was born.
A freedom seeker.
The wording is different with the receiver. With Zeke, it's different, because he's trying to make a point that this is who he is. But with Armin? He is going to die, with his best friend as his judge. He knew exactly why he wanted it: because he is free, ever since he was born. But somehow he couldn't say it outright with confidence. Maybe he's afraid to be judged as a monster by the person closest to him, or maybe he started to question his definition of freedom. Because to me, his eyes look like wonders.
Now. What is freedom? Many people believe that any acts out of violence is not freedom. But to Eren, that is freedom, his freedom. There's a meta that perfectly explains Eren's version of freedom, up until he did the rumbling. This is my highlight from that meta:
So freedom is the power of the individual to do as one wants. When you do something, you are imposing your internal desires onto the external world. If freedom is thus the power to impose your individual Will onto the outside world, then whoever has more power has more freedom.
This concept was highlighted when he told his friends in Paths that he's free to destroy the world and they're free to defend it; meaning that they're bound to clash, and they have to fight.
Freedom is not good. Nor is it bad. It is a force beyond good and evil, and that is precisely why it is terrifying. This, I believe, is why so many baulk at the idea that such a ruthless manipulator could be the avatar of freedom in this story. What I have always loved about SNK is how it delves ever deeper into its themes as the story goes on and discovers such fundamental paradoxes that your understanding of the idea is changed forever. If this is the horrifying face of freedom, perhaps we should not be free.
I don't know how much Isayama's involvement in this, but Grisha's commentary from the Lost Girls captures this concept perfectly.
Tumblr media
For Eren, that "great power" is his own concept of freedom: A world without oppression. Doing what you want to do. He's free to protect his homeland by whatever necessary, whatever cost, and leave the rest of the world as an open plain.
Usually, the more we're obsessed with something, the more we stray from our humanity. After witnessing firsthand the vision-he-so-called-freedom, he doesn't know how to feel. He gets what he wants, but he's not happy at all, only the hollow scenery remains.
Eren realized how messed up he is, even before he did this. He tried to reach out to Mikasa that night after he saved Ramzi, to save his humanity left. It's one of the reasons why he asked her, "what is he to her?" Surely if he was loved –even after he killed those men when he saved her that day– would mean he's still human, right? And by running away with her, he could live in peace, maybe he could free himself from his obsession. But he's doing it so half-heartedly, that when everyone interrupted them, he just... let it go. He didn't bother to sneak with her or anything. He couldn't let go of the future he saw, he's losing himself to his desire/inner demon, to his obsession of freedom. Or maybe he's winning over his pathetic self so he could focus on what he needs to do? One could interpret this scene as Eren trying to break free from his obsession for "freedom." One could interpret this scene as Eren trying to break free from the shackles of his conscience. It's up to you.
Eren's outburst over Mikasa in this chapter is his pent-up feeling over her. It is, but after I write this meta, maybe it's more than that. It's because she's the proof of his humanity left. Many, many times, Mikasa is there to stop him from ruining himself. Mikasa's love creates a subconscious understanding that she will always be there for him. That's a part of her that he loves, and by feeling love, it means his humanity still exists. If Mikasa chooses to move on with another man, it means she will forget all the times they had together, she will forget the most human side of him. The only person who loves him as who he is, his home, would be lost. He would be lost. That idea scares him, even though he knows he doesn't deserve her love after everything he has done.
One more thing; another reason why Eren doesn't mind to be stopped, aside from Ymir's wish will get him what he wants –as I already explained. People argue that the conflict won't end until Paradis or the rest of the world remains; thus, Eren's half-hearted genocide is meaningless. No. No matter how angry he is that he wants to eradicate everything, he has enough maturity to understand, even back from the Battle of Trost, that humanity is far from united even if they're faced against a threat beyond human understanding. During the after-party night before the Battle of Shiganshina, he accepts that great power comes from joining ourselves together. We all need to find our own roles. Humans are created differently, because of times like this. By sparing the rest of the world, it keeps both Paradis and the world from collapsing. By keeping the diversity of people, someday it will open a path for peace because it's a part of human nature to try to understand each other; he learned it from the SC. Eren believes Armin could take him there, after he died. Maybe he forgot all of that because he's too caught up in his hate and anger up until 122, the same way he forgot back in the days.
Tumblr media
Even if it's not explicitly explained in this chapter, I'd like to think that Eren got plenty of time to reflect on this matter when he did the Rumbling, to fill the emptiness he felt after he reached what he wants wanted.
Eren wins in the end, but at what cost? This chapter is calling out his tyrannical mindset, and it's great to see him realized his error, even if it's too late for him to go back.
Maybe this is what Isayama decided to focus on the last chapter, even if it's rushed. Maybe he (or his editor, idk) wanted the ending to focus on the protagonist's story about humans vs titans. The way Eren is so determined to wipe it out from this world, no matter how messed up his method, no matter how much he suffers, it doesn't matter if it's predestined or not. Because "freedom" is what he seeks ever since he was born. Because Eldia, every person deserves to be born in this world. Yes, every person, including everyone he killed. He knew the gravity of his action and choose to accept his death. Maybe it's the reason why Isayama doesn't delve into the aftermath of genocide further.
He wants the ending to be about Eren Yeager, The Attack Titan's journey about Attack. On. Titan.

Hello love,
Congratulations for the 800 followers! You absolutely deserve this and so much more! I'm happy to see how your blog grows and that you're still providing all of us with wonderful content. You're one of the first blogs that I've started to follow here on Tumblr and I'm so lucky to have found your blog ♡
As for your celebration event, could I please request a 🍨 vanilla milkshake with a male Peaky Blinders Character?
I'm more on the curvy side (and insecure about it) and I'm ALWAYS wearing black (which I love, no matter what others say or even more if they object). As for my personality, I'm a highly complex, paradox and complicated individium. I'm unbelievable patient, timid, awkward, kind, forgiving, open-minded, compassionate, thruthful, gentle and calm and I've been told that I have a calming effect on others, that I can easily ground anyone and anything, no matter how troubled their mind is. I prefer vintage over modern things. I think rather deep which often leads me to overthinking everything, which in turn leads me to doubting (very much) myself. You would be surprised how timid and reserved I am, I'm sure you wouln't notice me in a room full of people if it wouldn't be for my different appearance (but I like it this way). I'm always well-meaning, yet often misunderstood (maybe because it's hard for me to articulate myself). I can be incredible lazy, clumsy and forgetful. I've always felt like I don't really belong anywhere, so I've started to distance myself from others a while ago. I'm a outsider, weird, a dork, not normal, a loner and I fucking love it, because I like to be different, I would hate to fit into just one box and to be like everyone else. And I like people who are not ashamed to be their 100% true self, no matter how different that is from the mainstream. I'm the most loyal person you'll ever find, once you earn my trust, I'll always be on/by your side, no matter what. That says a lot, because I'm hard to scare away. Sometimes I feel alienated from the people and things surrounding me and I'm sure that I annoy and bore them. I'm very nervous and insecure around others, which is why I try to avoid people and why I'm not talking all that much around them (though, I'm a really good listener). I'm easily overwhelmed by large crowds and much light/noise, that's why I don't like to go outside, I prefer to cozy up at home. I would never intentionally hurt a animal and I'm not eating any meat, which is very important to me. I believe that there isn't a ounce of cruelty inside me. I'm unassuming and understanding, I only believe what I've witnessed on my own and I have endless acceptance for almost everything. Due to my Insomnia, I'm a night owl. I have strong personal values, am very opinionated and I'm really in-touch with myself and even though I'm extremly insecure, I would never reduce or change myself and views/opinions for someone and I neither have a problem to challenge authority and advocating for my beliefs. I'm a perfectionist and sometimes I really hate it. And, as you can see, I'm unable to be brief. My favourite colours are dark green, black, gold and dark purple. My greatest passion is music, even if I can't sing or play an instrument.(I prefer rock/punk/pop/80s/90s) It's the most calming and therapeutic thing when it comes to my anxiety and depression and I could never live a day without it. You will never see me in the street without headphones in my ears and even when I'm at home there's music playing almost all the time. I could talk for hours about music and what it means to me. And otherwise I love to watch films and series (I like fantasy, horror, psychological thriller, science fiction and psychological drama and almost anything from the 70s, 80s and 90s). I love rainy days and to go outside while it's pouring big, fat drops. What I love the most is to drive around without a destination, while talking and listening to music. And I love to spend time with my cat, if I could, I would have endless animals who live peacefully and loved with me. I enjoy to have deep talks and to be challenged to think. I love to take late-night-strolls, while gazing into the sky and watching the stars/moon. I have a fascination for dark and macabre things.
I really hope that's not too much? But thank you anyway ♡
Have a good day!
thank you so much for your kind words, you have no idea how much it means to me to know that I was one of the first blogs you followed ;; here’s your vanilla milkshake - and it’s also my first time writing for peaky blinders, but I hope it’s alright; and I hope finn shelby will find the portrait I paint of him accurate enough...
Tumblr media
Birmingham was a drab and disheartening place enough without the war adding to its joylessness; but somehow the streets are even worse to bear deserted than when they’re bustling and fetid. Especially for a ten year old boy who wants nothing but to play with someone, to talk to someone, to see someone.
With his brothers off fighting somewhere in France and his aunt too busy with her businesses (adult stuff that Finn has absolutey no interest in attempting to understand), the youngest Shelby has been fighting off an affliction worse than consumption and measles, because much more insidious for a boy his age; boredom
and he’s so sad, so irrevocably sad, with no one to bruise his knees with and throw mud at, that he just aimlessly wanders the empty streets whenever aunt Polly isn’t looking, to find a semblance of stimulation
(he used to enjoy the solitude, it gave him time to imagine delirious stories in fantastical worlds and read the most enthralling of novels, but not anymore. four years of reclusion is an awfully long time for a little boy.)
and it’s during one of his escapades that he first meets you
you’re a little girl his age, dressed in a pretty dress, wearing pretty booties and holding a pretty little woven basket, but your face is stuck on the most grouchy frown he’s ever seen on a little girl, and you don’t walk, you stomp down the wet pavement like a wrathful titan
And it’s probably the first time in four years that he’s been this close to making a new friend, so he walks up to you, despite how rusty his communication skills have become
“Girls don’t frown. It’s unbecoming.”
(Yes, pretty rusty indeed; but in his defense, he’s ten, he’s bored, he’s lonely, and he’s only ever heard Ada say it, and Ada is the most level-headed of his siblings, so anything she says must be true, right?)
“Shut up.”
(Well, if it was unbecoming of you to frown, it’s even more to rebuff someone so rudely. You don’t even spare a glance and continue walking; he has to hurry to catch up to you.)
“You can’t say that. It’s a bad word.”
“How do you know that?”
“My family says it all the time, but they told me I can’t say it.”
“Well, my family is not your family. And I hate my family!”
You’ve yelled the last words at the sky, so loud that the crows on the neighboring roofs have taken off in a startled flight.
“They want to wear this stupid dress to go to the stupid market to buy stupid meat. I don’t even want to eat meat, that’s cruel! And I don’t even want to wear a frilly dress! I want to wear black!”
And in saying so you tugged at the pink and white ribbons that encircled your waist.
And Finn couldn’t help being extremely intrigued at this little girl who said bad words and refused to eat meet and wanted to wear black. It was the most exciting thing to ever happen in all the duration of the war.
“You want to wear a black dress?”
“Yes, but my mama won’t let me. She says it’s too sad because of the war. But black isn’t sad! Black is beautiful!”
“Maybe I could find you a black dress. I’m sure my sister must have one. Where do you live?”
And, loyal to his promise, the following morning he had run to your doorstep and snuck into your house - a proper Shelby talent, to be able to go unnoticed or make a ruckus depending on the occasion - with an old, crinkled mourning dress of Ada’s, that had probably belonged to his mother and had been mended several times
And it was obviously five sizes too big for you and you looked more like a ghost from one of Finn’s horror novels, your arms floating in the sleeves and the hem of the skirt pooling at your feet, but your smile was the brightest light he’d ever seen in this whole damn town.
“Do you like it?”
(He didn’t really know why he sounds so nervous. Maybe it was having a friend, a real friend, and doing something personal for them... or maybe it had to do with how fast his heart beat, watching you in that gigantic, shapeless dress)
“I love it! Thank you so much, Finn!”
From then on started one of the most wonderful friendships Finn would ever have, and what would bring a ray of light to the grim existence of a little boy in the midst of a global war
Despite the ration cards, despite the loneliness, despite the worry that tugged at his stoic aunt’s eyes for her son and nephews across the Channel... he found an unspeakable solace in your friendship
And one day, without a trace, you were gone
He knocked on your door; gone. He asked all the neighbors what had happened to the family that lived there; gone. He wrote you letters and sent them to the confines of England; gone. He got scolded by Polly for marking numbers at random on Tommy’s state-of-the-art telephone; gone.
Suddenly he was back to the bleak existence he had battled with before meeting you, and the hollow inside his chest only grew wider as the days went on, because he had no explanation as to what had happened to you, and worried every single day
Thankfully, the war ended not long after, and his brothers came back home, all alive and unscathed - well, for the most part
Fast forward more or less ten years, and much has changed in Finn Shelby’s life and in old Birmingham, but the memory of you still stugs at his heartstrings
One evening, he’s tasked by Arthur to run some errands, send a few messages, scout a few places; the most dangerous thing his older brothers will ever let him do
His task leads him to a bar in the center of town, one that pours its joyous light and music into the street outside; he’s there to meet with a client, arrange a meeting; nothing he’s hasn’t done already
But the evening takes a turn for the unexpected when he recognizes the girl sat alone at a table, enjoying the musicians’ jazz with an air of pure bliss on her face
It’s been ten years, of course, but... it’s unmistakable. That face, that silhouette, and the black ensemble from head to toe... and he’s always had a knack for remembering faces, especially those that mark him deeply
Suddenly he’s frozen on the spot, and he has forgotten why he came to the bar in the first place, what his target looks like - all he knows is you, and how beautiful you look in the dim light of the bar, and the undisclosed and unknown feelings he had for you at the time come flooding back.
Except this time, he understands, and he fears them, because he doesn’t have time for any of this, and it’s way too dangerous for you and him
But he can’t just pass you by and not say a word?
He swallows, hard.
And walks up to you.
“Y/N?”
You open your eyes, and your face flashes with recognition, and a little bit of pain as well. Even if you fled without a word, and left him hanging all these years, he’s incapable of rancor
“Finn... wow, you’ve changed so much.”
“You haven’t.”
He gestures at your face, your clothes, how you savor the music like the finest drink in the world, and you laugh and blush, sending his heart into overdrive
“Where were you all this time?”
“I’m so sorry, Finn... my brother died in the war, and... my mom sent me to live with my grandparents in Scotland. We were all destroyed by grief... I needed to get away.”
“Without explanation? Not even a word?”
“I wanted to write to you, so bad, but... I couldn’t remember your address. I couldn’t remember anything about Birmingham at all...”
He nods, slowly, in understanding.
The war opens wounds that never heal, even after all the most beautiful friendships and love stories in the world.
“But I’m really glad I found you.”
His heart is pounding in his throat. Maybe it’s a sign of destiny that he found you here, tonight, alone, and ready to welcome him back. Maybe it’s a word from fate, that you can never truly be apart.
So he takes the seat in front of you, and you smile, that shy but bright smile of yours, and he forgets all about his mission, his client, and his brothers.
They’ll have to understand.

Sly Cooper Theory - Penelope's DARK Hidden Truth comments on youtube
Yeah, Penelope's history needed to be shown to us. Thru out the games, we received backstories from BOTH good and bad guys; learning why they became who they are. Penelope's story could have been explored in the 4th game, or possibly the 5th game. Since she and Bentley were dating, she could have told him about her childhood, her parents, how she became an RC pilot. From there, we'd than learn why she'd go on to betray the Cooper gang; the 4th game does (sort of) explained it, but it could have been done better. Also, the idea of Clockwork raising Penelope? I got All for One-Shigaraki vibes from this theory... Where the villian raised an poor child and molded them into their image...
I remember the theories after the game came out that Penelope was the one who helped Clockwerk transform his body with robotic parts. Seeing as he was was born in Ancient Egypt some kind of time travel being involved makes sense and Penlope is a robotic genius and now she hates Sly and the gang. Using her knowledge of Bentley's time machine to assist Sly's greatest enemy makes sense. I think that would make a pretty good twist personally....showing remorse and regret afterwards would be even better. I like a redeemable villain. When any of this may happen though....I have no idea
Here's a theory, what if it's reversed?  Penelope knows about clockwork but what if it's Penelope that helped turn him to machine, not because she was influenced but felt that she was betrayed instead, and knowing about clockwork knew where about to start her come back, after all she is just as smart as Bently just misguided, she's even made soldiers that are types of cyborgs in sly 4, not to mention it's kinda odd that her bad guys are all Robots not one is normal at all,  as for time paradoxes in sly 3 she only heard about sly's gang not much as to their skills, after sly 3 she's figured out a lot more even how much they rely on Bentley and his plans, she just didn't get their bond and started to hate sly. After some thought she could have snuck off to meet with clockwork to tinker with him a bit thus may be why clockwork's eyes were in the ice age time-line, a spooky thought with this is maybe there are more than one clockwork out there as during sly 4 we see every once in a while a variation of clockwork in the background, yes it's big but it's not the same as sly 1 or 2 almost like they are just watching and gathering data.
It is also symbolic relevant as eagles prey on mice! Meaning clockwork took penelope in his fangs to use her genius to manifacture the hate chip and grant clockwerk the immortality he was searching for!!!! Actually I think Vivi did a theory on Penelope helping turn Clockwerk into machine! It’s an older theory. (If I’m wrong because I forgot, it could be a MulatoSly Theory or a collab theory.) Check out all their theories videos on Sly, it’s Awesome!!!
About those easter eggs in Sly 4 either A: Clockwerk originates from the present timeline and time travelled to 10 000BC. Or B: Mainly just an easter egg, meaning Clockwerk REALLY originates from Egypt.
I feel.. wouldn't say Penelope was taken under Clockwork's wing. The Time of Him watching the Cooper Line up to Sly wouldn't have the Mecha Bird know of a future love  interest that happens to be with ties of a friend of a last link to a rival family one hated.
Seems way too much of a coincidence unless if The Clockwork Time Lord theory is in play, and even THAT Theory still seems far fetched. I like what was said of Him just being on a steady diet of Jealousy and Hate, with the sole decision of replacing his own body with souless machinery. I like the Theory so much, of the one where Penelope COMES ACROSS Clockwork remnants that very much so were miraculously alive to do its psychological damage, like how the clockwork eyes did in the past...if an actual robo eye is found in one of the bottle safes .......who..put it there?... 😳😳😳 But also, EXTREMELY very good point referencing Dr. M's battle of words back in Sly 3! That really slipped my mind, and makes perfect sense that it may have planted a seed of wrong in Penelope's mind!
Anyway, I still accept wholeheartedly of a theory where Penelope does come in contact with Clockwork. A quick comment as well about Sly in Egypt, could it be that how Sly ended up there would be because of His Cane?? If the time machines needed authentic real items of that time period to go to, would it make a heck of a lot sense that The Cane Sly has was passed down by Slytenkamen? Or that Because Sly is in Egypt, it's a paradox loop that has the Cooper family come to be by His own Hands?? 🥴🥴🥴 Wonky theory, but I like it!
Like maybe with penelope’s strengths in robotics and her time travel and new hatred towards sly maybe she instead was the creator of clockwork, atleast his robotic form
Vtnvivvi hear me out and really hear me out what if Penelope is clockwork I mean in the name clockwork and her building her own version of The Time machine plus compare clockworks voice to the Black knights voice don't don't they sound the same , no wonder we keep seeing clockwork in every single time. Of where sly's ancestors are Penelope could have just use her time machine with her owl body to just study slides ancestors in order to in order to to see what makes him tick I guess. It's just a theory. I don't really know hopefully it's a good one I guess.Show less

Mighty Nein Enneagram Part 8
I haven’t seen it anywhere else here, so I’m gonna take a whack at it!
Disclaimer: this is totally just my idea for each character, and if anyone wants to talk about different vibes they get from certain characters, feel free to start a conversation!
Yasha Nyoordin: 9w8
Now, I know a lot of people type Yasha as an 8, but there is a challenging, intense energy that 8s have that she just does not have. Her anger is present, obviously, but it is subdued and highly controlled until she allows it into battle when she rages. For this reason, for her peaceful, even avoidant nature, I think she is a 9w8. Her wing 8 clearly shows through when she rages, of course, and with this 8 wing she fluctuates between passivity and confrontation. She is also assertive and anti-authoritarian in a way that a 9w1 doesn’t line up with.
A Nine’s core fear is of loss and separation. Yasha has lost a lot in her life, and been separated from those she loves so many times. Zuala, Molly, the period she was controlled by Obann, to name a few. She has lost those close to her, and every time it hits her especially hard.
Their core desire is to have inner stability and ‘peace of mind’. With her inner turmoil with her anger vs her passivity, as well as her struggle with figuring out her past and who she is, she is constantly striving for a deeper sense of meaning and a dependable, quiet inner world.
When a Nine falls into stress/disintegration, they become cynical and anxious like unhealthy sixes. But when in growth/integration, normally ‘back-seat’ Nines become more active and goal-oriented like healthy Threes.
Yasha doesn’t like being the center of attention, and rarely speaks up. There’s also a distinct avoidance of any sort of ‘rocking of the boat’, as well as an avoidance of many things in general. She tends to leave when things get stressful or difficult, which is extremely typical of a Nine.
9w8s are especially known for avoiding difficult situations, minimizing emotional issues (her extreme reluctance to talk about herself), and a tendency to come across as blunt or stubborn. However, they can also be encouraging, able to adapt to new ideas, and see multiple sides in a situation. They are the most challenged and stressed when they are forced to make major personal decisions, when they feel controlled or restricted by others, and when they feel overlooked or disregarded.
As the Enneagram Institute says, “More than any other type, Nines demonstrate the tendency to run away from the paradoxes and tensions of life by attempting to transcend them or by seeking to find simple and painless solutions to their problems.”
They also mention “being awake versus falling asleep to our true nature”. Yasha’s biggest journey is to face who she is and how she got here, reconciling with the world and all of its challenges, even if they do end in heartbreak. In the end, she cannot stay in the back-seat forever.
So that’s the end of the series, wow. Let me know what you guys think, and thanks for sticking around. Check out the other Mighty Nein Enneagram posts I’ve made!

𝐷𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑓𝑢𝑙 𝐷𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑟𝑒
A/N: Um... so I went overboard again. There was more to this drabble but I gave myself a crisis so I cut it out. I don’t know what this is but it may turn into a whole blown fanfiction. Who knows. I’ve never really written for Oikawa before but I hope you enjoy it!
Synopsis: Knight/Royalty AU (Fantasy AU)?
Oikawa x Fem!Reader (she, her, sister, you, your)
You are Iwazumi’s little sister who’s fighting off the feelings you harbor towards Oikawa. This is just a description of the internal battle you face while dealing with said feelings.
"There is nothing so mortifying as to fall in love with someone who does not share one's sentiments." ―Georgette Heyer, Venetia
Tumblr media
Green leaves rustled in the wind, causing the branches to sway. You rocked back and forth on the swing hanging from the branch, slowly swinging higher and higher. Your eyes gazed up at the sky, feeling the urge to fly off the seat. What if I just jumped off when the swing hits its highest point? The ropes of the swing left your hands as you pushed yourself off the wooden plank.
Up in the air, you reached out towards the sun, begging to feel the clouds just once. What would they feel like, their texture? Perhaps the softest lambswool couldn’t compare to its softness. Would they smell like the fresh yet earthy scent of rain? Or possibly they’d smell like the paradoxical scent of snow. It had a fresh watery scent, and yet it did not smell like anything at all. Your stomach dropped as your heart pounded while reality hit you. It wasn’t just your stomach dropping, your entire body was free falling towards the ground. The force of gravity pulled you farther and farther away from the peaceful vastness, a divine painting streaked blue and white; sprawled out across the heavens.
The enchanting reverie ended the moment your feet hit the ground. Your knees gave out on you, causing you to fall back onto the neatly trimmed but damp grass, creating an emerald silhouette around your body. Even though you were laying on the ground, your mind was anywhere but Earth. How you longed to be somewhere, anywhere but here.
“How long do you intend to lie on the ground?”
With a amused huff, you pushed your upper body off the soil, “Forever, if time allowed. To become one with the Earth doesn’t seem so bad.” You laughed.
Oikawa came over and grabbed your outstretched hand, helping you to stand up again. Your hand fell back to your side, unsure of what to do next. No doubt your mother would scold you for ruining a freshly cleaned dress.
“You got your dress dirty.” Oikawa’s expression hardened into a displeased one.
“Really? No. I couldn’t tell.” You commented in a sarcastic tone, “It’s not a big deal. The dirt will come out, eventually.”
“I think you get dirtier than me.” He sighed, following you back towards the castle.
“Yes, as I recall, you couldn’t even touch a frog when we caught them during summer. Down at the stream every morning, we’d set off towards the woods and try to see what animals we could find. Hajime chased you with a frog in hand. You couldn’t bear the sight of it, so you ran away, pushing me down in the process.” You reminisced.
He scoffed, trying to defend himself, “(Name), I was six! I’ve grown up since then.”
Out of pure spite, you tried to look for an animal to scare him with, but with no luck. “Well, my good sir, I do hope so. Otherwise you’d make a very shitty knight. Are you excited to be knighted?”
“I am. The king even agreed to confer knighthood.” Oikawa claimed proudly.
Your jaw dropped, “How did you scam my poor old father into bestowing such an honorable title on you?”
“No trickery of the sort! He is the one who offered it to me. Why are you so mean to me (Name)?!” He cried dramatically.
The first thought that came to mind was your brother, Hajime, who always resorted to violence with Oikawa. It never failed to amaze you how he was still standing after all the “playful” abuse he suffered from your brother, “It must run in the family.” You snickered. Oikawa pouted at your response, chasing you through the halls. He was fast, but you were faster.
Fine fabrics flowed behind you as you ran. Luckily you could hide in the library, you knew every hiding spot in existence. It was your safe haven, no one else knew where they were so you blocked out the rest of the word. Nothing could get past the mountain of books you sat behind, nor could they find which bookcase to pull that led into a secret passageway.
Behind a wall of novels, you watched Oikawa briefly check inside the library. He rushed up the stairs, seeing if you were on the second floor. When there was no sign of you, he sprinted downstairs and kept dashing down the hallway. Victoriously, you emerged from your secret spot and traveled back to your room. He could search the entire castle. It didn’t matter to you.
Your defensive nature could possibly be fueled by your growing romantic feelings to the man. It was a distasteful thought. The very idea of being infatuated with such a self-absorbed bastard was repulsive. I will not let him be my downfall. No way in hell. You gritted your teeth and marching back towards your room.
Unfortunately, it did not seem that he shared your affections. He had hoards of ladies swarming around him. There was no way you could compete with the gorgeous ladies of the court. Not to mention he only saw you as a little sister, so a romantic relationship with him was out of the question. Your brother would not approve either, but he couldn’t run your life.
Falling in love with him was like being hit with a bat out of nowhere. It began as a child. At first it was nothing but admiration and a small crush. As you grew, it turned into love.
The feelings you held towards him were contradictory indeed. You found yourself devoted to him, never loving any another who crossed your pass. No one could compare to him, his brown eyes and well groom hair had a special place at the back of you mind. There was something about his genuine smile that made you feel... happy.
Why long for a man who will never love you back? Why put yourself through all of this agony? Either way, you couldn't help but adore him.

Terror White
“You’re either with us or against us.” - George W. Bush

1.
On January 6th, 2021, domestic terrorists invaded the Capital Building in an act of political insurrection. Their intent was to overthrow the will of the people by preventing certification of a free and fair democratic election. They did so at the behest of their political leader (who was impeached a second time for inciting this gross transgression of his oath of office), other voices in their party - the so-called GOP - and talking head agitators inhabiting the far-right media echo chamber. Nearly to a man, a woman, a they, each of these terrorists were white.
Images of ‘good old boys’ traipsing down the halls of the people’s house waving confederate battle flags, kicking feet up on the Speaker’s desk, walking off with public property or smearing their shit on the floors pervaded the internet. These images provided by the villains themselves, posted shamelessly to social media profiles.
As a result of this treasonous, insulting, juvenile, despicable, and ultimately futile effort five people died. Even still, hours after the fact, a majority of members of the so-called GOP voted in accordance with the will of these terrorists. They voted to overturn the results of a free and fair election in the world’s oldest modern democracy. They did so because they believed there were serious ‘concerns’ (‘concerns’, let’s be clear, that started with them and like the Ouroboros, ended up with the confusing, if unhygienic, phenomenon of not knowing where their mouths or assholes ended or began) with the 2020 presidential election. After over 60 court cases arguing that point only one was ruled in their favor. None of the 50 States comprising our union found any evidence of wide-spread fraud. Indeed, a federal agency tasked with monitoring election security stated unequivocally that the presidential election of 2020 was one of the most secure in a generation.
And yet? There they were. Spouting conspiracy theories, assaulting police officers (those stalwart stewards of the ‘law & order’ they otherwise claim to love), brandishing spears and bearskins, stealing mail, leaving death threats to the Vice President, fundamentally acting the fool. A bunch of bullies let out of detention with rage and rebellion on their minds.
Let me be clear: each and every one of these terrorists should be hunted down by law enforcement and charged to the fullest extent of the law. They should then be prosecuted and the judges in each and every case should show or allow no mercy. These barbarians must never be allowed to storm the gates again.
Fine.
But that’s not the really interesting question here. The far-right has been producing assholes forever (one of the few things the ‘right’ is truly consistent at). What’s actually interesting is how these insurrectionists arrived at the conclusions they did. Which is to say; how did their ‘thinking’ bring them to this point.
2.
While it might be tempting for some on the left to see that last sentence as a joke, let’s remember we’re sitting at the adult table. These terrorists, being human, sharing our genetic code, are people - real, live, eating, shitting, fucking, anxious, sleeping, scared, afraid, terrified people - just like you and me. As much as it would be easier if we could see them as Uruk-hai instead of our brothers and sisters, sadly? That’s what they are. Family. Part of the Human Condition.
Though humans that are clearly very, very, very sick. My diagnosis? Mind Cancer. Let me explain, under the assumption my readers understand the difference between mind and brain. As such, I am not asserting that the terrorists are physically sick. From their pics and videos it’s clear many are - obesity, hypertension, anal retention - though that isn’t the point. It’s their mental programming, their minds, that have been infected. Infected with what?
Put simply? A disjointed ontological phenomenology obscured, obfuscated, and accelerated by persistently chaotic epistemological aberrations. Said plainly? Their ability to process reality has been impaired.
Why? Racial resentment, poor economic opportunities, an aversion to books and learning? Yes. All that. Plus? The internet, which has created a new Dark Ages.
Paradoxically, one built on light.
3.
Look. Self-interested demagogues intent on self-aggrandizement are nothing new. Nor are their ability to rally or rile a downtrodden populace. Sadly, demonizing the ‘other’ is also pretty par for the course in these scenarios. An old story, all told. What’s new this time is how it happens.
In a single second - count it out! One Mississippi - a beam, or photon of light moves 186,000 miles. Roughly seven times the circumference of the Earth. The new speed of hate. The internet, that modern marvel ushering in Humanity’s first truly post-scarcity resource, is built on light. Philosophers have for millennia wed knowledge with light. And now we all (well, those of us in the post-industrial world) carry a terminal connected to this internet in our pockets. A stunning marvel of human ingenuity. One would imagine that access to such a wellspring of knowledge and information would have a truly edifying affect on the Human Condition. Perhaps, in aggregate, or retrospect, it will. At the moment?
Yeah ...
At the moment it seems that the more access to information humans have the more they double down on tribal identities, wish fulfillment, instant gratification (read: porn), perceived slights, fantasy lands, Rick Astley videos, or the jibbering incoherent rantings of simple capitalists fomenting the fragile emotional states of low information individuals who feel they have no place in this world. This is a fundamentally devastating epistemological conundrum. Why? For centuries the barrier to the future was the amount of information, knowledge, you could access or process. Yet here and now? Here and now there might be too much access. Too much information. More so, the striking fact that our ability, as a species, writ large, to process or parse this information has not kept pace with the information at hand. A sad equation that inevitably leads to moments like 01/06/21.
4.
The Trump Terrorists of January 6th, 2021, weaponized the internet to facilitate their attempted coup. As did their ‘dear leader’ throughout his humiliating single term in office. In fact, it was the geometrical acceleration of connectivity and interconnectedness enabled via the web and its insanely capitalist platforms that allowed for their ‘movement’ to incubate and evolve. While it is true that neo-liberal policies advocating globalist economics and monetary policy are at the current root cause of most ills genuinely affecting rural, or poor, or uneducated MAGA-heads, it’s also true that apart from an Independent from Vermont no one in the political economy of the last couple decades gave much of a shit about these poor and dispossessed inheritors of old racial mythemes and toxic narratives of self-reliance. No one that is, other than their ‘dear leader’. Never mind he didn’t intend to ease their suffering in any material, or structural way. He talked about it. He tweeted about it. And then he gave them a little song and dance at the rallies. Breathtaking stuff.
However, it wasn’t just the performative act of playing ‘authoritarian’ that got them hot and bothered. No, it was at the same time the eternal need to belong to a group, the legitimate feeling of economic obsolescence, coupled with these new tools of information transmission. Tools that at once gave them powers unheralded and seemingly ensconced them in a protective shell, a perpetually larval manifestation of all their baser inclinations. A reactionary ‘safe space’ from which they could launch a thousand ships of intolerance and hate. What good is truth if you can’t weaponize it? What good are facts if you share them with everyone else?
And so we find ourselves revising Plato. There isn’t just one cave in which we are chained, kept from reality. There are multiple tunnels, alcoves, deeper caverns in which we might dwell. Furthermore, if lucky, there are different days, vistas, egresses in which we can escape from the confines of ignorance. Much like the lucky Mormons, it would seem the far-right believes there are plenty of planets in which ‘Truth’ can dwell. Never mind that multiplying ‘Truth’ in such a way doesn’t actually produce more truth.
In fact, it reduces ‘Truth’. Impoverishes it. Hollows it out.
Which is sad, really. For the major harm caused by these rebels isn’t to our democratic institutions, nor our mythological vision of our nature, nor that ever-loving economy - but to the very fabric that binds the social contract on which all the preceding rely.
That fabric being, specifically, a shared objective reality.
5.
How can we survive if we can’t agree on basic facts? Can a multi-racial, multi-cultural, representative democracy exist when a large percentage of the comprising citizens don’t believe in, or even acknowledge, that that’s actually what’s happening? Is White Supremacy so fundamentally a part of our nation’s DNA that the country can’t exist without it? If so, for those of us who vehemently oppose White Supremacy, the question might then be: is the country worth saving?
Most versions of Western Ethics indicate that violence is not the cure. Nor do I advocate such a position. At the same time I’m deeply troubled, because due their illness these actors are neither rational or coherent. Ergo, we can’t reason with them either. So what next?
To corral the revolutionary, if inchoate, spirit of these sick, fringe minds diseased as they are by hate, grievance, and digital oubliettes would any policy proposals be acceptable? Perhaps as fantastic an idea as the images from 01/06/21, what if the Federal Government decided to halt its obsequious sycophantry to corporate America and ‘elites’ and instead actually, seriously, emphatically reinvested in the heartland, in Main Street, in the working class? Wouldn’t it be ironic if a little more socialism was truly the cure these hatemongers require?
6.
Maybe we should step back and listen to the wisdom of George W. Bush.
Confronting what was at the time the most disheartening terror attack on the homeland, Bush made clear not all who could otherwise be lumped in with the terrorists were terrorists. In the same way that, yes, not all Trump voters are Trump Terrorists.
Even so. Bush made it clear you needed to pick a side.
With us - toward a diverse future in which the promise of the Founders is emboldened and expanded for all who live between our shores. Or against us - back to your stunted hovels and holes with all the other low information troglodytes you like to cosplay revolution with.
Choose.
It’s your call. But choose quickly, because history is watching, and only one path moves toward the future.

Things About Leon
I guess I’m firmly in the Leon boat now so let’s do this.
I’m pretty new to the Sword/Shield discourse(?) community (and wow, that feels weird to say) but I’ve been generally disinterested in SwSh as games until now and, to be fair, I am still largely neutral towards them. There are a couple things that have piqued my attention here and there, and by far, the biggest has been the Champion of the Galar Region Leon.
Leon, to me, is absolutely fascinating. He’s young, not as young as Iris mind you, but young enough that when he became Champion he couldn’t have been older than 16. He made it to Champion in one shot. He’s never been beaten which means that he would’ve gotten to the top on his maiden journey. Leon seems to me, to be around N’s age (which is roughly 19) and that makes his design take on a lot of different meanings depending on how you look at it.
I’m not overly fond of his clothes but they tell a good story--one of Leon not really being his own person or having the freedom to express his own desires and sense of self. And that slaps.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the Sponsor Stickers.
Leon’s cape is a huge literal red flag that he’s not his own person. He’s wearing a weighted reminder that he has sponsors, that he’s the face of multiple companies, that every action and word he makes or says has the power to change the course of his career based on how his sponsors feel on a given day about a given action. He has to keep up this larger than life persona constantly, has to keep mentioning his tag lines like his winning streak, his undefeatableness because that’s his brand. That’s what he represents. An paragon of Galar’s unconquerable strength in the battle ring.
Then we have his general design and hhhh
Tumblr media
I just want to reiterate that there’s no way Leon isn’t young. He’s too close to Hop for there to be a considerable age difference between them and little pieces of himself like his snapback are markers of his age and his actual taste in fashion. That said, it looks like his main outfit was put together by three different sponsor companies and he doesn’t really have a choice in whether to wear them or not. In fact, I’m pretty sure Leon digs the clothes.
They keep the attention in the right place.
Leon’s not an unattractive guy (and by the looks of it, the majority of Pokefans agree with that assessment) but if he had become an icon/phenomenon/idol at such a tender age then with it comes a lot of creepy attention that Leon definitely would’ve felt uncomfortably with. Media, magazines, selfies, social coverage all of these things are huge in Galar and the image that Leon would’ve had superimposed on him by people who thought him hot/daddy af/any other number of deplorable terms you can probably think of would’ve had to be controlled really quickly if Leon wanted any chance of being treated like a person instead of a piece of meat. Being an overgrown kid, a show-off athlete type, a larger than life persona to fit the larger than life legend that his backers were crafting for him when he would’ve just been a kid who loved battling--that’s infinitely more comfortable.
There’s like a million other things I can talk about too; Leon hiding just how sharp he is (see him being able to rattle off exactly how much Hop’s grown since he last saw him down to the inch just by eyeballing him for a sec), the amount of pressure that must come with an ‘Undefeatable’ moniker, the way he keeps pushing himself to be better and whether that’s to preserve his title or for the love of Pokemon training, hell if I know. My point is, I’d love to see Leon turn out to be a weird commentary on the fact that Champion is handed out so fast and loose. The Champion of a region carries with them the hopes and dreams of that region, and the image that Champion portrays is ultimately what ends up being sort of the identity of that region. It’s something that’s rang through for every region before and it’s something that rings through now.
Green was the culmination of your story. A strong and personal beginning that imprinted itself on the heart with a strong and personal struggle to the top.  Lance was stern and intimidating. A cool fierce challenge that rang out and reminded the people of Kanto and Johto to keep moving forward in the face of dangerous times. Steven represented the relaxed ways of Hoenn along with its paradox of change, a man caught in a limbo between pursuing the things he loved and pursuing what would be best for the good of the region, ultimately choosing to follow his heart and pass the title onto his friend Wallace who represented the elegance and power of Hoenn’s many, many new features and styles of battle. Cynthia was the history and quiet mystery of Sinnoh, an observer who endeavoured to learn as much about her home as possible and who emblemized the strange yet iconic primordial strength of Sinnoh. Iris and Alder together represent death of the old and reinvention with the new. A precipice for Pokemon where Game Freak put to death many features to offer a new direction, a new, different path forward, a dichotomy of the old and modern like the two Unovas co-existing. Diantha was the newness of Kalos, old, enduring features going back to the roots of Pokemon married to the shiny, exciting step into the future.
And Leon? Leon’s the gentleness and power of Galar, a humbleness that’s dressed and paraded and stretched into a new, efficient form; a caged majesty set to work at the feet of forces beyond himself.

The three gods and their lots - (three heads of the dragon)
Contains meta below the cut as well as possible interpretations and theories and speculation. I feel like I should also add a disclaimer that no, I don’t think Targaryens are gods incarnate, this is just examining mythological aspects in their stories and characters and finding commonalities. (I only respect one mortal turning into a god and that is Bran)
The major three gods of the Greek pantheon were: Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. They drew lots and shared dominion over the world - Zeus was god of the sky and king of the gods, Poseidon was god of the sea, and Hades was the god of the Underworld. Three dominions, three gods.
“The dragon has three heads.” - Daenerys IV, ACOK
Aegon/Zeus
“I have. Why should I go running to my aunt as if I were a beggar? My claim is better than her own. Let her come to me...in Westeros.” - Aegon, The Lost Lord, ADWD
The lesson began with languages. Young Griff spoke the Common Tongue as if he had been born to it, and was fluent in High Valyrian, the low dialects of Pentos, Tyrosh, Myr, and Lys, and the trade talk of sailors. … Geometry followed languages. There the boy was less adroit, but Haldon was a patient teacher…” - Tyrion IV, ADWD
“...Yandry said we ought to throw you back, but the lad forbade it.”
The prince. - Tyrion VI, ADWD
Upon his birth, Zeus had to be spirited away from his father, Cronus, who had swallowed his siblings and hidden so he could escape the fate of his siblings. He would later grow, revolt against his father, and regurgitate his siblings. After drawing lots, Zeus would be given dominion over the sky and be named king of the gods.
Zeus was affiliated with protection, authority, righteous rule, battle, and justice. He was considered a fair protector and ruler, but not above petty jealousy or anger (or amorousness).
Aegon, in what little we have seen from him, is actually groomed from a young age to rule. He doesn’t have the hands-on experiences several other characters are thusly put through in the books, but it is very clear he knows what is expected of him, has the knowledge required for the position, and has a good claim to the throne - one that is seemingly preordained, as Zeus’s was foretold before his father swallowed his children.
Aegon’s connection to the red comet seen on the day of his birth can be loosely traced to Zeus’s mastery over the sky itself (where the sky reflects a point of significance to both Zeus’s temper or demands, so did Aegon’s birth seemingly coincide with the prophecy of the prince that was promised).
“Young Griff”/Aegon had similarly been spirited away as Zeus had during a time of catastrophe when his claim would threaten another (where instead of a stone wrapped in swaddling, Aegon’s escape was tendered by Varys switching him with another baby) and raised in secrecy, despite being the rightful heir of a kingdom. It’s not Cronus he was hidden from or his actual father, but Robert Baratheon who is hellbent on wiping out the entire line of Targaryens, even agreeing to Tywin’s methods (whether or not he ordered the Mountain to do what he did to Elia and the children doesn’t matter; he was the Mountain’s lord, and so at best he just insinuated ‘do what you want’ very well knowing what Gregor was like). Not so different from Cronus, who, desperate to keep his power, swallowed all of his children.
In text he’s shown to be a little impatient in his desire to be taken seriously and not be coddled by Griff (but honestly he’s 16 and every teenager everywhere in the history of anybody can be impatient and a little overdramatic; Tyrion is briefly reminded of Joffrey when Aegon throws a tantrum over cyvasse, but Tyrion is shown to not like a lot of people for various reasons, so). However, he has a fantastic grip on his studies, in particular language and history, and we can infer that he has an interest in ruling that goes well beyond ‘it sounds like fun’ (Robert Baratheon’s quote that he never felt so alive as when he was winning the war, and never so dead after it was won comes to mind), at least from what we know from Varys and Griff, and a bit from Tyrion.
But aside from the impatience we see from him, he shows compassion and an unwillingness to forget kindness when he refuses to let Tyrion drown after Tyrion saves him from a stone-man. From the Tyrion chapters in ADWD, we see Aegon laugh quite freely, is at ease among people of a different station from him; we actually get the idea that even if he can be a little immature, he shows a lot of promise for rule and justice.
One of the more interesting connections between he and Zeus is the fact that there is some debate as to whether Zeus is the youngest or the oldest of his siblings since he was never swallowed by his father (who technically, after he regurgitated them, also gave ‘birth’ to the swallowed siblings) - and there is understandable debate as to whether Aegon is really Aegon. It could go either way; they are Schrödinger's brother and represent a puzzle, a possible paradox (I do actually believe Aegon is the real deal; if Ned can smuggle out a secret-baby from a tower across a battlefield with only his buddy from the swamps, Varys could certainly have arranged a switch).
And associating Aegon with justice, imo, isn’t a stretch - particularly when we’ll get to see him gain some traction outside of Jon Connington’s influence (who just likes to hate on the Martells because he’s a Rhaegar fanboy don’t @ me) and we see him meet Arianne. Jon C only sees Rhaegar in Aegon because all Jon C can ever see is Rhaegar; once we move beyond Jon C’s immediate and constant influence over Aegon (and him trying to shape him as Rhaegar 2.0) we’ll see Aegon have the opportunity to connect directly with his Martell side. I believe there’s a good chance we’ll see Aegon seek out, and speak about it, justice for his mother and sibling especially given that he’ll have a positive Martell influence at his side. We just haven’t had the opportunity yet. (And Zeus was always associated with righteous authority and justice).
It’s not a huge hint, but there is also the connection Zeus has with gryphons; in a translation of Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus, Prometheus has a warning for Io “Beware of the sharp-beaked hounds of Zeus that do not bark, gryphons”. Gryphons/griffins are also said to pull Zeus’s chariots. Jon C is undoubtedly the guard dog that stands ready at Aegon’s side and manages to ‘carry’ him in a sense to Griffin’s Roost (poor influence on him notwithstanding, I can’t really cast aside the fact that he is loyal to Aegon, regardless of the reasons why).
Admittedly, Aegon is definitely much milder than Zeus with his flaws microscopic compared to the king of gods, but I think a lot of mythology references aren’t word-for-word, and in asoiaf they sometimes pull through less obviously. Casting Aegon as Zeus works specifically for this because of the rule of three, and who I ended up going with for the other two in this meta/theory.
Zeus was not without his share of flaws and while he was king of the gods, his rule never went unchallenged - chief amongst them to instigate things was Poseidon. Aegon similarly won’t be unchallenged for it.
Daenerys/Poseidon
“The Dothraki sea,” Ser Jorah Mormont said as he reined to a halt beside her on the top of the ridge. Beneath them, the plain stretched out immense and empty, a vast flat expanse that reached to the distant horizon and beyond. It was a sea, Dany thought. - Daenerys III, AGOT
“...I shall fear the Dothraki the day they teach their horses to run on water.” - Ned, Eddard VIII AGOT
The horse seemed to know her moods, as if they shared a single mind...The Dothraki were a hard and unsentimental people, and it was not their custom to name their animals, so Dany thought of her only as the silver. She had never loved anything so much. - Daenerys III AGOT
“...I know that somewhere upon the grass, her dragons hatched, and so did she. I know she is proud. How not? What else was left her but pride? I know she is strong. How not? The Dothraki despise weakness. If Daenerys had been weak, she would have perished with Viserys. I know she is fierce. Astapor, Yunkai and Meereen are proof enough of that. She has survived assassins and conspiracies and fell sorceries, grieved for a brother and a husband and a son, trod the cities of the slavers to dust beneath her dainty sandaled feet.” - Tyrion VI, ADWD
Poseidon was lord of horses, god of the sea (and all that it entailed). Upon drawing his lot, he envied Zeus his position as rightful king and challenged him for it several times (conspiring with his siblings at some points), and would often needle his sibling. He was a key deity to pray to for protection, mostly travelers and sailors. He was associated with the sea, storms, earthquakes, and horses. In some stories, he too was smuggled away from Cronus, in others, he was swallowed like his siblings.
Poseidon’s temperament was known to reflect the sea and storms; he was unruly and seen as a rebel against authority that existed both in the divine realm and the mortal realm. Him being lord of the sea, storms, earthquakes, and horses, reflects a wilder nature.
While Aegon is seen as the rightful heir to the iron throne (and consequently has the Golden Company with him, lending a further air of credibility to his right since the GC are ‘honorable’) and has a shared mastery of the sky with Zeus (referring to the day of his birth and its connection to the red comet), Dany has been ‘given’ domain over the sea. The Dothraki sea, at any rate, and the Dothraki themselves (who are also known as horselords). While her temperament hasn’t shown itself to quite the extreme Poseidon’s has shown in his tales, she has a connection to the foreshadowing of a storm, of bringing a storm (her name, the day of her birth, repeated connection with the unruliness of her largest dragon Drogon, and indications of her possibly forming an alliance with Euron Greyjoy in the future etc).
No squall could frighten Dany, though. Daenerys Stormborn, she was called, for she had come howling into the world on distant Dragonstone as the greatest storm in the memory of Westeros howled outside, a storm so fierce that it rippled gargoyles from the castle walls and smashed her father’s fleet to kindling. - Daenerys I, ASOS
It’s an interesting connection that Dany has with the sea and horses, imo. She’s shown to love the freedom of the sea, of sailing, and she loves horses. Both are associated with freedom to travel and journey, as we see her ecstasy on the back of Drogon flight gives her a similar feeling. It is, I think, reflecting the fact that she isn’t shown to enjoy ruling, but she does enjoy power and victory (and conquering although it’s not so cartoonishly overt). The fact that Ned says there’s nothing to fear so long as the Dothraki never learn how to cross the Narrow Sea on their horses was setting up that they will ‘learn’.
Dany, cast under Poseidon, as lord of horses and the sea (and journeying), gives them that “opportunity” (one they don’t want or need, desperately).
While all the gods of the pantheon were guilty of petty meddling and warring with each other and having rivalries, Poseidon was infamous for having disputes with other gods for supremacy and control of other countries. At once point, when Athens chose to follow Athena over him, he flooded them in his outage. Some believed that his anger roused storms, caused earthquakes, and floods. (Again, he was far from the only god to do petty things like this, but he was held up as the one who was infamous for it even as he was also viewed as a protector).
Dany doesn’t summon any of those things, but there is a buildup of her anger/frustration in the books. Her justice is biased (to say nothing of her hypocrisy in dealing with slavery, in one breath claiming it is abominable, in the next allowing it to happen and partaking a portion of the profit just as the slavers she had ousted did) when she corrects herself to demand that the wineseller’s daughters be questioned more harshly, rather than gently (implying there is torture to follow in the interrogation).
We see that temper rear its head when she burns Mirri, a victim of the Dothraki who was taken as a slave after being assaulted a number of times, after Drogo dies, when Jorah’s duplicity is revealed to her and she sends he and Barristan into the sewers hoping they’ll die, etc, (not necessarily to say her anger in some of these moments isn’t warranted, but gradually over the course of the books, her frustration becomes more obvious and her solutions bloodier and less focused).
Poseidon, despite having his own dominion and having drawn the lot for the sea, challenges Zeus for his. He loses, but it isn’t the only time he challenges Zeus, or any other gods, at times enacting terrible vengeance on them or their favored humans.
Dany and Aegon meeting is pretty inevitable, but there is foreshadowing that they will be at odds. Maybe they’ll meet with the united idea that the Lannisters/Baratheons have to face justice for what was done, but Dany’s idea of a legacy is wrapped up only in the legacy of the Targaryens, and she refuses to consider any other elements that occurred during the Rebellion (her father going mad, why the Starks and Baratheons rebelled, what Rhaegar was at fault for, etc). Aegon at least is implied to listen to Tyrion - he isn’t only blinded by what Jon C undoubtedly has told him - meaning he’ll likely hear Arianne out too, and Jon Snow. Dany has one truth, passed down from Viserys, one legacy.
Like Poseidon, Dany already isn’t satisfied with her lot, warring over other countries (or conquest, claiming Meereen for her own after Astapor falls to the butcher). She will challenge Aegon for a lot that belongs to him, but I believe that unlike Poseidon, she’ll actually win against him.
Jon/Hades
Casting Jon as Hades is something I’ve already written about in this meta, so this is just a summary with bits added on.
When I compared Jon to Hades, I also compared the Night’s Watch being the place when men went and died, metaphorically, they died in the eyes of the realm (no wife, no sons, no land, no glory, etc). I believe that Jon is being groomed for rule in a different way, that is, holding domain over the condemned or forgotten.
When Aegon and Dany inevitably clash over the throne, the aftermath is going to look like a hellscape. King’s Landing is repeated through the text to be the seat of power, the center of Westeros, multiple times, and with another Dance building up, I think, leads to foreshadowing that it’ll be ruined or on the brink of ruin at the end. It’ll still need someone to rule it, whether through the infant stages of an elective monarchy (it sounds like they’ll need something more than that or it’ll just invite more chaos as though rule can only be achieved through conquest of some kind, particularly for a monarchy) or otherwise.
Jon has already fallen into an unenviable position. Sure, he gets to be Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch - an order that vows to remain at the Wall, against a horde of undead, with no support besides Stannis, with ‘dead’ men as his subjects.
Some myths meld Zeus and Hades into the same being existing on different plains. Hades is also known as “Other Zeus” or “Infernal Zeus”; here, where Zeus is the god of living mortals, Hades is the god of the dead souls.
Aegon is meant to take the Iron Throne and be the ruler over the Seven Kingdoms, in King’s Landing, a place of power, wealth, bounty from other kingdoms, etc. Dany will be his end in the Dance of Dragons and turn that bounty, or its possibility, into a wasteland. I don’t doubt people will still be alive, but it’ll be a place of ruins, and so will quite a few other places. I think Jon will likely kill Dany after the fact, for kinslaying and being a threat to the north and the realm, and thereby becoming a kinslayer himself.
The gods of Westeros punish kinslaying. Jon, at this point of finding his family and being murdered for being Lord Commander and spending time under threat with the free folk (even if they do get along now) will probably just want to go home. Punishment for kinslaying will be for him to hold another position no one wants; the throne. Where when Aegon is set to take it, the kingdoms are in chaos, he’ll seem like a bright spot with hope, we might see him pay attention to food issues, the chaos, logistics, etc. And then he dies. And then Dany dies. And all that’s left are the survivors - those seemingly forgotten and condemned to this place afflicted by war and famine -, and Jon. His punishment for kinslaying (and maybe making mistakes with Dany) will not be able to go home, or be made to take up a post at the Watch; he’s condemned, once again, to the people who’ll seem more dead than alive after everything that’s occurred.
Jon’s duty was, and will continue to be, to the condemned.
